Huis van Steve Jobs nu historisch erfgoed
Het huis van Steve Jobs, de twee jaar geleden overleden oprichter en icoon van Apple, staat op de lijst van historisch erfgoed van Los Altos. De 'historische commissie' van de stad in Sillicon Valley, Californië stemde hier gisterenavond unaniem voor. Dat meldt de Palo Alto Daily News.
Steve Jobs is in het huis opgegroeid en heeft er enkele van zijn eerste computers ontworpen.
Nu het huis historisch erfgoed is, zal de overheid bij eventuele aanpassingen of renovaties een extra controle uitvoeren. De bedoeling is dat het huis zoveel mogelijk in authentieke staat blijft.
Het pand, waar Jobs en zijn pleegouders in 1968 naartoe verhuisden, is nu eigendom van Patricia Jobs, de zus van Steve. De commissie heeft niet om haar goedkeuring hoeven te vragen voor de beslissing. Ze zou wel tegen de plaatsing op de lijst in beroep kunnen gaan.
In de evaluatie van de commissie staat dat het huis van belang is omdat Steve Jobs er de eerste honderd Apple 1-computers in elkaar zette, met hulp van zijn zus en Steve Wozniak, mede-oprichter van Apple. Vijftig apparaten werden verkocht aan een winkel in het nabijgelegen Mountain View (voor 500 dollar per stuk).
In het pand kwam ook het eerste Apple-partnership tot stand. Later verhuisde het bedrijf naar Cupertino. (br.hln)
