Een uitzonderlijk mooi exemplaar van calciet op een matrix van gekristalliseerde malachiet.
Calcite on crystallized Malachite Tsumeb, Namibia ex. Los Angeles County Museum, Marion Stuart Collections Large Cabinet, 16 x 7.5 x 8 cm
John Schneider Photo
This dramatic piece is one of the most astonishing , visually-impacting calcite specimens I have ever seen. It features sparkling, lustrous, pristine yellow calcites perched on the most glorious carpet of sparkling, chatoyant malachite you've ever seen (even better in person).
Prosper Williams sold it in 1976 to the Los Angeles County Museum, from whence it was traded to the Marion Stuart Collection in a rare deaccession in 1977. It was the Sussman's first choice specimen when the Stuart collection was broken up at Tucson in 2000, and they waited in line to be the very first people into Dave Bunk's booth at the opening of the show. I know this because myself, Steve Neely, Steve Smale, and a number of others also really wanted this specimen at the time and we were all waiting in line BEHIND Marshall's bald head to get it on the offchance he did not (grumble...).
