Acording ICAO & WMO dit I in the past receive mails confirming thad the term sleet does not exist in the METEOROLOGY.
In my FAA HANDBOOK AVITION WEATHER for PILOTS and FLIGHT OPERATIONS PERSONNEL dated 1965 do I find:
SLEET general transparent, globular, solid grains of ice witch have formed from freezing of raindrops or the refreezing of largely melted snowflakes falling through a below-freezing layer of air near the Earth's surface.
according this definition SLEET does not result in AIRFRAME ICING
CAUTION:
Many persons wrongly use the term SLEET for the precipitation of mixed RAIN & SNOW or MELTING SNOW witch result in AIRFRAME ICING
