Witness said: I was on the beach at low tide in Gig Harbor WA (Forest Beach Drive), on Monday, August 11, 2014 around noon with my children and grandchildren. I was photographing everyone catching crabs and star fish and looking at shells on the beach. I just decided to take a picture of the horizon and the lovely scenery. I did not see anything unusual with my eyes, nor did I see anything but the scenery through the camera lens. No one with me noticed anything unusual in the sky.
However, when I downloaded the photos later that day I saw the round yellow object in four sequential (rapid shot) photos and the object was in a different position in each one. I am not saying it’s a UFO, but everyone who has seen the photos says it has to be. The object was too far from land on either side of the Bay to have been a frisbee or a remote control plane. When I zoomed in close on the computer, the object definitely “looks” like a UFO with a little bulge on the top and what looks like a row of windows — although I’m sure it could be any number of things. I was standing on the west facing beach, looking out over Hales Passage (part of Puget Sound). The four photos were taken at 12:04:18.
Witness said: While camping in Algonquin Park on 2014-08-20 with my wife. At around 1:30 am. We saw these strange lights in the sky over ” Lake of Two Rivers ” Southern Sky. These lights weren’t there the night before and they weren’t there the next day. It seemed to us like they were just hovering there. Not sure what they were. So I caught it on video and thought I would share.
Piloten zien mysterieuze rode gloed boven Grote Oceaan
Twee piloten hebben tijdens hun vlucht van Hong Kong naar Anchorage in Alaska een mysterieuze rode gloed gezien boven de Grote Oceaan. De vreemde lichten zijn gespot ten zuiden van het Russische schiereiland Kamtsjatka.
Hoewel er nog geen eenduidige verklaring is gegeven, wordt gedacht dat de gloed te maken heeft met de explosie van een enorme vulkaan onder het wateroppervlak.
Op PBase vertelt de Nederlandse piloot JPC van Heijst hoe hij halverwege de vlucht in de verte een felle bliksemflits zag. De flits werd 20 minuten later gevolgd door een oranjerode gloed. Van Heijst was nogal verontrust. Hij zei tijdens zijn vliegcarrière nog nooit zoiets engs te hebben meegemaakt.
Er waren rond Kamtsjatka geen onweersbuien te zien, wat erop wijst dat de bliksem niet werd veroorzaakt door onweerswolken. De gloed is ook een mysterie. Soortgelijke lichten worden wel eens gezien op boten die op inktvis vissen, maar volgens Van Heijst zou je dergelijke boten niet in dat gebied verwachten.
“Hoe dichter we in de buurt kwamen, hoe feller de gloed werd,” schreef Van Heijst. “De gloed verlichtte de wolken en lucht onder ons op een angstaanjagende manier, in een deel van de wereld waar normaal gesproken alleen maar water zou moeten zijn.”
Hij kon maar één mogelijke verklaring bedenken: een enorme onderwatervulkaan die 30 minuten eerder was uitgebarsten. Van Heijst was bang dat hij midden in de nacht in een aswolk terecht zou komen, maar dat gebeurde niet.
Van Heijst en zijn copiloot voelden zich alles behalve op hun gemak. Er waren verder geen vliegtuigen in de buurt. De waarneming werd doorgegeven aan de luchtverkeersleiding, die inmiddels een onderzoek heeft ingesteld.
Als er door de uitbarsting een nieuw eiland is gevormd, hoopt Van Heijst dat het naar hem wordt vernoemd. “Dat zou best wel cool zijn!”
Witness said: After doing my summon in my back garden 10 minutes later this object past by it was a really bright object and there where no details apart from what looked like like a row of orbs!!

1. Shadow People
A shadow person (also known as a shadow figure, shadow being or black mass) is the perception of a patch of shadow as a living, humanoid figure, particularly as interpreted by believers in the supernatural as the presence of a malevolent entity.
The Coast to Coast AM late night radio talk show helped popularize modern beliefs in shadow people. The first time the topic of shadow people was discussed at length on the show was April 12, 2001 when host Art Bell interviewed Thunder Strikes. During the show, listeners were encouraged to submit drawings of shadow people that they had seen and a large number of these drawings were immediately shared publicly on the website. Later that year, on October 1, 2001, Heidi Hollis published a book on the topic of shadow people.
The Raven Mocker, or ka’lanu ahkyeli’ski, is an evil being from Cherokee mythology who robs the old, sick and dying of their lives. Normally appearing as old, withered men and women, when they hunt a victim they take to the air in a fiery shape, and with the sounds of a raven’s cry and a strong wind. After tormenting and killing their victim by slitting the victim’s head they consume his heart (doing so without leaving a mark on the victim’s skin), and add a year to their life for every year that the slain would have still lived. Much like a banshee, the sound of a raven mocker means that someone will soon die.
Raven mockers are normally invisible when feeding, but those with strong medicine can not only spot them but cause them to die within seven days. Medicine men will sometimes stand guard over the dying to prevent raven mockers from stealing the heart of the afflicted.
Raven mockers are feared and envied by the other witches of Cherokee folklore, and their bodies may be abused by said witches after death. He is the Angel of Death in such a way he was menacing.
3. MARE
A mare or nightmare is an evil spirit or goblin in Germanic folklore which rides on people’s chests while they sleep, bringing on bad dreams (or “nightmares”). The mare is often similar to the mythical creatures succubus and incubus, and was likely inspired by sleep paralysis.
Machine elves are faceless multi-dimensional beings that appear machine like.
5. ALIENS
The terms alien abduction or abduction phenomenon describe “subjectively real memories of being taken secretly against one’s will by apparently nonhuman entities and subjected to complex physical and psychological procedures”.[ People claiming to have been abducted are usually called "abductees" or "experiencers".
Due to a paucity of objective physical evidence, most scientists and mental health professionals dismiss the phenomenon as "deception, suggestibility (fantasy-proneness, hypnotizability, false memory syndrome), personality, sleep paralysis, psychopathology, psychodynamics [and] environmental factors”. Skeptic Robert Sheaffer sees similarity between the aliens depicted in early science fiction films, in particular, Invaders From Mars, and some of those reported to have actually abducted people.

The 46 second CCTV clip, uploaded on YouTube, shows a bright, white object hurtling through the air at breakneck pace on an industrial site in Prokopyevsky, Russia.
The eerie clip video has been watched more than 38,000 times and has attracted no fewer than 56 comments from Ufologists, all eager to try to explain the bizarre phenomenon.
A poster known as Russell Davies from Shropshire is among them.
He wrote: “I see up to 12 of these a day in Shrewsbury UK, you can call them, they respond to telepathic communication.
“They generally appear at night in order to evade detection by a paranoid and largely hostile military.
“They are probes sent out from ET mother-ships, and are here simply to catalogue the state of the biosphere-earth and even to monitir human emotions, as well as behaviour.”
Another poster, Sean Boice, wrote: “Two years ago, my friends and I saw a orb like this, it moved left and right real quick, was egg shaped, and had colors like plasma all over it.
“About 20 minutes into watching it, two fighter jets flew over with a third one joining them in formation, then flew towards the orbs, did a circle, and then left.”
Michael Tellinger shows off what could be one of the best pieces of evidence that there were giants on Earth a long, long time ago. Geologists have marvelled at this giant foot print in rough granite, about 4 feet long. Some still say that it is a natural erosion pattern.
Personally I find that suggestion highy improbable for various reasons that I will not go into here. Prof. Pieter Wagener from UPE, suggests that “there is a higher probability of little green men arriving from space and licking it out with their tongues, than being created by natural erosion”.
It is located in South Africa, near the town of Mpaluzi, close to the Swaziland border. It is estimated to be between 200 million and 3 Billion years old because of our current understanding of the formation of granites in Earth’s history. This dating immediately causes great debate and argument – so I urge you to keep your mind open and focused on the evidence.
This amazing footprint in granite was discovered in 1912 by a hunter called Stoffel Coetzee, while hunting in the remote area. At the time this was a deeply remote part of South Africa known as the Eastern Transvaal, teeming with wild life, including antelope and lions. It remains in the same condition as it was when first discovered and the possibility that this was a carved hoax is extremely low because of its remote location. Even today, it is difficult to find.
The real mystery is how this amazing phenomenon occured – I have no idea – but here it is and we cannot wish it away.
YES – It is granite – it is a well recognised geological part of South Africa and recorded on all geological maps – that is why this footprint is such an incredible mystery. It can be desribed as a “phenocrystic” granite, OR coarse porphyritic granite, that underwent several different stages of cooling. The result being an interesting mixture of large and small granules. This is why granite companies are keen to mine this area for granite because it will look really “pretty” when polished. In the official Geology Of South Africa, this outcrop is called Mpuluzi Batholith (Granite) and the official dating of this rock produced dates of around 3,1 billion years.
A real mystery that needs close scientific examination.
Project HIBAL - the answer to Westall? - files destroyed
Hi all, Introduction: A research project I conducted a little while ago, concerned Project HIBAL, which launched high altitude balloons from 1960 onwards from Mildura, and several other Australian locations. In previous posts, I provided details of the HIBAL program, and suggested these very large balloons might explain some UAP sightings from that era. In addition, while conducting a cold case investigation of the 6 April 1966, Westall case, I began to look for a Project which involved the former Australian Department of Supply (DOS) (Westall researcher Shane Ryan was contacted by the family of a former DOS employee who maintained their father knew the solution to Westall); the American government (some Westall witnesses reported people wearing what some professionals have described as American uniforms); a light aircraft (Westall witnesses maintained several light aircraft circled the UAP); and some form of flying object, which could have come down near Westall High School. This cold case investigation brought me right back to Project HIBAL! These very large balloons lifted a heavy payload high above the Earth. A "chase" aircraft followed each flight, and "cut down" the balloon via radio signal. The payload (weighing about 200kgs) then dropped to Earth, below a 12m diameter parachute, taking an hour to get to the ground. The balloon went on to land elsewhere. Chase vehicles with DOS personnel then retrieved the payload.
Balloons on the loose: HIBAL flights in 1966 were launched from Mildura, and some payloads were retrieved as far away as the Eyre Peninsular in South Australia; Nowra, NSW; Canberra, ACT; and close to Melbourne (in August 1966.) My research unearthed previously unseen Bureau of Meteorology and Department of External Affairs files, in the National Archives of Australia. I also located and interviewed five former DOS employees, who had all worked on the HIBAL program.
A working hypothesis: As a result of my intensive research, I developed a working hypothesis. In summary, it was "Could a Project HIBAL balloon's payload and 12 metre parachute, and subsequent retrieval of the payload by a ground crew, have caused the Westall incident?" There was a HIBAL balloon scheduled for launch on 5 April 1966, flight 292 of the series. Flights were quite often delayed by a day due to too strong winds on proposed launch dates. The Westall incident occurred on 6 April 1966. As part of my research, I located the logbook of the pilot of the chase plane (now deceased). Strangely, there was a logbook entry for flight 291 and one for flight 293, but no entry for flight 292!
Files: I located a National Archives of Australia file series on RecordSearch, namely MP1472/25, which was a series held by the Controller of the Section of DOS, responsible for the Department's part of the joint US Atomic Energy Commission (the American connection I was after) and DOS HIBAL program. From the Bureau of Meteorology HIBAL files I had a DOS HIBAL program file reference, so I knew that the MP1472/25 file series held the DOS HIBAL files. I inquired at the National Archives of Australia (NAA) about the present location of the file series MP1472/25? The recent NAA response to me informed me that the file series "...was destroyed by the controlling agency CA46 Department of Defence in 1996. There are no item lists for this series in our finding records." So, any hope of finding official information on flight 292, and where it came to ground, from DOS files, is gone.
Formeremployees: In addition, none of the former Department of Supply employees I interviewed was able to tell me what happened to flight 292. I posed the question, could the 5 April 1966 payload have come down in Melbourne, to one of the former DOS employees, who sometimes flew in the chase plane. His response was that he wouldn't be surprised if one had! So, unfortunately, I now have no way of testing my hypothesis that the 6 April 1966 Westall incident was caused by the landing and retrieval of the payload of HIBAL flight 292. I must, for the sake of transparency, let blog readers know that I have provided details of my HIBAL hypothesis to key Westall researcher, Shane Ryan, who does not support the hypothesis. I have also provided details to Westall documentary film maker Rosie Jones, and she doubts that it is the answer to the Westall incident. I welcome comments from blog readers, particularly former DOS employees or their families; or former members of the US Atomic Energy Commission HIBAL program; or indeed any of the Australian "official" Westall investigation team, which Westall witnesses report "silenced" witnesses to the event.

CRASHED ALIEN DISC AND HITLER’S SS SUMMER 1937 ……. CZERNICA GERMANY [ NOW TERRITORY OF POLAND ]
“A multicolored ball or globe-shaped UFO was seen to fall in a field (or near a field) belonging to Eva Braun’s parents (this was the future mistress of Adolph Hitler) The area was cordoned off by SS-troops from the town of Jelenia Gora (called Hirschberg at the time).” “The crashed disk was transported to the Hirschberg SS base and kept under very strong guard and super top security. The disk was 7.6 meter in diameter and 3.8 meters high. It consisted of a large “overwhelming” dome, encircled by a narrow outer rim, and smaller flat dome on the bottom with a flat lower section. The top of the dome was also flat and large. The craft had 6 oval-shaped structures resembling portholes but not transparent, or devices that radiated some type of light, located near the base of the upper dome. On the lower surface of the outer rim the craft had 12 lights. The color of the disk was a dull metal gray. There was an insignia on the dome resembling the letter “T” with 2 props on its sides. The entrance into the disk was found on the top of the upper dome. The general shape of the disk resembled that of a German soldier’s helmet with a small protrusion on the bottom.” “Inside the circular cabin were 3 small seats, there were control panels around the dome and 3 alien beings were found: one was dead, the other two were alive. One of the live aliens died soon after the crash, and the second live alien remained in custody for about 1.5 months and then died. The aliens were small dwarfs, about 0.9-1.0m in height, with large hairless pear-shaped heads, small dystrophic looking bodies, long narrow hands with 4 fingers, grayish skin and large dark slanted eyes.” “The Germans were afraid to move the disk to a more distant location, out of apprehension that it might explode during a long trip during transportation. So, a research laboratory had to be constructed nearby. From Hirschberg the disk was removed to a more secured underground location, which most likely, was called “Der Riese” a Nazi complex in the nearby Gory Sowie mountains (now in southwest Poland), which was also a site being used for excavating for uranium ore. This complex had an extensive network of underground hangars, connected by tunnels. The bodies of the occupants and the living extraterrestrial were also moved into this complex. The alien that lived for a little bit over a month apparently supplied the Germans with some type of information and was desperately asking the Nazi medical doctors for help, but they could not help him because of the different biological structure of his body. The alien died from an unknown illness.” “The origin of the crashed craft was apparently the double star system RA known on earth as 78 mu-1, Cygni, 73.1 light years in distance. Among the information given to the Germans by the surviving alien was that they had built underground bases in the polar region of the Canadian Northern Territories maybe Baffin Island. This data was supplied to Adolph Hitler himself. But no substantial technical data was in fact provided by the alien that could had help Nazi scientists to cope with the alien technology, despite their desperate attempt to obtain such data. The surviving alien also informed the Germans that the crashed was caused by some kind of technical malfunction. The alien was kept and interrogated at the same underground installation as the disk.” “Adolph Hitler and some other top Nazi figures including Werner Von Braun and Air Marshall Hermann Goring inspected the crashed disk, the alien bodies and consulted Nazi scientists in an attempt to use the object as a super secret weapon. Among those scientist involved in investigating the crashed disc were, Max Von Laue, Otto Hahn (who discovered nuclear fusion) and Werner Heisenberg. Fortunately (and unfortunately for the Nazis) the alien technology was extremely sophisticated and difficult to understand. The disc indeed inspired some Nazi scientists to construct different models of disc-shaped planes and the so-called flying bombs.” “This crash and possession of the extraterrestrial spacecraft was one of the factors that possibly inspired Hitler with extreme self-confidence to start World War II, hoping to use the craft as a sort of super weapon that would eventually help him conquer the world. Because of the approaching Soviet troops the whole underground complex was blown up, and the disk and the alien bodies was buried in one of the underground tunnels, the entrance was sealed with numerous huge rocks. It is apparently still there, unbeknownst to the Polish Government. The disk apparently still emanates radiation from its power plant, but because of the nearby uranium mines this source of radiation remains undetected.”
(N.Morgan) The ancient Greek tomb of Amphipolis has sparked intense interest recently due to the large burial mound found beneath it and it has captured the imagination of the public and the archeology world alike. The public is now imploring local politicians to begin tours of the ancient, beautiful site. The Culture Ministry appealed Thursday for “understanding” while the Amphipolis excavation proceeds. The partially uncovered tomb from the end of Greek warrior-king Alexander the Great’s reign, which was found inside the mound, has sparked intense media interest amid wild speculation that it may contain rich treasures or the bones of an ancient celebrity. Alexander inherited the throne of Macedonia, in northern Greece, from where he set off to conquer a vast empire reaching India. He died in 323 B.C. at age 33 and was buried in Egypt – although the precise location of his grave is one of the enduring mysteries of archaeology. Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has already visited the Amphipolis excavation and state TV daily leads news bulletins with incremental developments about the dig.
So far, archaeologists have uncovered part of the late 4th-century B.C. tomb’s entrance, which has two large marble sphinxes placed on a lintel just under the barrel-vaulted roof. Underneath lies the doorway, still covered in earth, with traces of painted plaster decoration. “It’s astonishing, the biggest tomb we have found in Greece so far,” said archaeologist Chryssoula Paliadelli, an expert on the period who is not involved in the excavation. “It clearly shows the wealth that allowed construction of what was, at the time, a hugely costly monument.” But the tomb may well have been looted hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Part of a stone wall that blocked off the subterranean entrance is missing, while the sphinxes – originally two meters (6 feet) high – lack heads and wings. Near the sphinxes, excavators have found fragments of a large marble lion that originally capped the mound, which indicates the site was severely damaged and dug up in later antiquity.
Nobody knows yet who the mound was built for. Alexander’s mother, widow, son, brother and sister-in-law were all murdered in separate attacks in the Amphipolis area during the brutal power struggles that followed his death. However, Macedonian royals were traditionally buried at Aegae, further to the west, where rich, unplundered graves excavated in the late 1970s have been identified as those of Alexander’s father, Philip II, and a slain son. Older research has tentatively linked the lion statue, which was removed during Roman times and discovered a century ago some 5 kilometers (3 miles) away, with Laomedon, one of Alexander’s military commanders; his admiral, Nearchos, was a citizen of Amphipolis. “It’s all speculation until we see the inside (of the tomb)” said Michalis Tiverios, a professor of archaeology at the University of Thessaloniki. The excavation is expected to last at least another few weeks.
What are cylinder or cigar shaped UFO’s? These flying enigmas have baffled mankind for at least several centuries. They lack any obvious aerodynamic features such as wings and stabilizers to keep them aloft. Yet they perform incredible manoeuvres at speed that our best pilots can not duplicate.

Eight beachcombers thought fame & fortune awaited them when they found a monstrous carcass washed ashore near Palermo, Italy, July 2,1989. “It was at least 100ft long, snake-like, & had a huge head & a wide mouth full of vicious, needle-like teeth.”

Where do I even start? I’m exhausted, I have bags under my eyes and I feel like I’m about to fall over. Last night my roommate went out around 8PM with a guy, and I climbed up to bed at 10PM, making sure I locked the front and back doors. I did my ritual, and got situated in bed, then I heard the bathroom door downstairs close. I figured my roommate was home so I brushed it off, then I heard a soft voice say “no” and heavy footsteps on the bottom of the stairs…. So I texted her, asking if she was home. Then the footsteps were in my hall and I could hear the voice again, “no, no, no” over and over again, it sounded like a little kid. I texted her two more times before I got a response, that kept me up and watching my door for my life. She wasn’t home….. The heavy footsteps came to my door around 11, and I could hear a faint scratching, followed by a whispering child’s voice, “no, no, no” I flipped the f**k out then, hid under my blanket like a child and cuddled with my cat…. Her tail was bushed up, as if she angry….
Sure enough daylight broke and the noises stopped, I looked out Ito the hall…. Her door was closed when I went to bed last night…. It’s wide open… Now she’s sending me weird messages…. Saying it’s a spirit from her dreams… I didn’t know how to respond when she said no…. So I waited til this morning to reply….
GLASTONBURY, CT — It was a creature that let out “blood curdling yells at night.” It was described as witnesses who saw it as a large dog with a cat-like face. Small dogs disappeared or were found mutilated along with goats and sheep.
And so the legend of the “Glastonbury Glawackus” began.
It was the middle of a cold, snowy winter in 1939 when The Hartford Courant ran a story of a hunting party that went into the wilds of Glastonbury in search of the creature. It was a headline writer’s dream as the newspaper’s front page read: “Guffaws of Glastonbury Glawackus Greet Gloomy Gang Of Gunners.” The search party turned up nothing.
“The Glawackus was still loose in the snow-covered hills of Glastonbury Tuesday night, victor over the wiles of the best huntsmen in these parts,” read the January 18, 1939 article. “Until they’re sure, the scientific term Glawackus will be used. The name come from Glastonbury, its habitat, and from wacky, to describe the way everyone feels about the whole thing. The ending makes it sound Latin and authentic.”
The Courant printed a map showing the area of the three big Glawackus hunts and pinpointing bits of “Glawackiana” – areas where dogs and other domestic animals killed or mauled; areas Glawackus heard howling; areas where Glawackus was seen and “dogs chased something” locations.
The sightings and hunts were confined to the wilderness portion of southern and eastern parts of town. Some believed the creature was a mountain lion that escaped from a Manchester, Vermont zoo after the great hurricane of 1938.
“Because the animal is out of its native habitat, the animal is probably restless,” warden Charles Allshouse said. “and might move on and be reported some distance away in a short time. However, it will probably stay around as long as there are enough rabbits to meet the needs of a mountain lion’s appetite.”
Others thought the creature may be a lynx.
“I never saw a glawackus,” said a New Britain policeman in a Jan. 23 article. “but I’ll bet that animal over there in Glastonbury isn’t one. I’ll bet it’s a lynx. Four years ago there were two lynx off here in the Pinnacle Mountains. They were mates and nobody caught or killed them. They can have a whole family around these parts by now.”
The lone hunter to see the creature was Hartfordite William F. Bonvouloir in the wilderness near Diamond Lake when a “beautiful black creature about three feet long with a tail two feet long leap out of the scrubwood in front of them.”
“Bonvouloir brought up his shotgun and cut loose with the right barrel,” according to the Courant article. “The 12-gauge charge bit into a rotted tree stump as the startled cat began zipzagging through the underbrush.” A second shot misfired as the cat “kicked back sprays of snow as it fled into a stretch of green cedars.”
But once a legend is born, it was hard to resist the pull of a myth. There was a community dance called the Glawackus Ball. An article ran about children making a Glawackus-man in the snow. Hunting clubs made Glawackus targets for members to shoot. Even local poets were inspired.
“The Glastonbury ‘lion,’
Or wildcat, where is he?
Perhaps it’s some poor tabby
Now hiding in a tree.
But if the great safari
Its big game could not stalk,
Through wood and open landscape,
It had a lovely walk.”
The fervor began to die down when a large brown dog was killed in July by hunters. The headline from July 7, 1939 read “Mysterious Glawackus Is No More.” The dog was taken in a baited bear trap, shot and buried in an unmarked grave.
“In a few days the beast was caught and bullets ended its suffering,” read the article. “A few persons witnessed the incident and they decided to bury the animal and say no more about it.”
“After that, Glawackus was seen no more and, one by one,” read a 1958 article marking the 20th anniversary, “Glawackus men admitted that the dog probably was the terrible monster – well, maybe, perhaps. Still others waited until Middletown farmers one night reported seeing a “strange beast passing through. That, they said, must have been him.”
The bottom line? The legend of the Glawackus sold newspapers and brought some excitement to a sleepy town during a long winter.
“It relieved the monotony of a dreary winter,” a July 8 editorial noted. “It provided small talk for uncounted dinner tables just as the subject of the hurricane began to pall. It got any number of ordinarily slothful individuals into the open air…Now it is dead, but if one knows Glastonbury, it will rise again. It was too useful to remain long buried.” – Courant
An unexplained sound has permeated the water from one end of the Pacific to the other since 1991. What could it be?
It isn’t whales or ship vibrations or any of the other usual suspects making this noise in the ocean. In 1991, scientists first detected what has become known as the Upsweep.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) describes Upsweep: “It consists of a long train of narrow-band upsweeping sounds of several seconds duration each.” It’s been detected from one end of the Pacific to the other, a huge range.
The US Navy had never seen this signal before in its decades of listening under the waves, according to a 2002 New Scientist article. Upsweep was heard straight across the Pacific, ruling out certain localized or small-scale sources.
The sound persisted, with a peak in strength in 1994. Since then, it has been subsiding, though it remains audible, reports the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It seems to peak in the spring and fall. This could be related to the source of the sound, or it may simply be that the sound travels better in the aquatic environment at these times for whatever reason, says NOAA.
The sound is uniform overall, unlike the varied sounds of most volcanic activity and unlike the varied intonations of whale communications. But Emile Okal of Northwestern University in Chicago and Jacques Talandier, formerly with the French Atomic Energy Agency, suggested a particular type of volcanic activity that may be the cause.
In 1996, they hypothesized that it may be the sound of seawater coming into contact with a large pool of lava, explained New Scientist. They used seismometers to trace where the sound may be coming from, concluding that it may originate in the remote southern Pacific. NOAA states that the source may be in this region, at the location of inferred volcanic seismicity. “But,” notes NOAA, “the origin of the sound is unresolved.”
Another theory was explained by Christopher Fox, who studied the sounds as director of NOAA’s acoustic monitoring project. The movement of water can make noise like the movement of wind and currents may be responsible.
Until the mystery is solved, many theories will continue to be excite human curiosity—could it be an unknown species of sea creature? Could it be a geological oddity or undiscovered phenomenon? Some explanations are more likely than others, but with 95 percent of the world’s oceans unexplored by humans, the possibility of discovering something new is ever-present.
Mysterious noises of the deep have perplexed scientists before, but were eventually explained. For example, the Bloop was a loud, ultra-low frequency sound heard in 1997 across some 3,000 miles of the Pacific. Today on Thursday while outside on our deck at home, I had this feeling once again inside me. Even a premonition to even get my wife’s glasses from inside the house. Reason being so I could point out another UFO to her should I spot one. Suppose being on holidays can do that to a person on a nice day? While chatting with her her about twenty minutes facing west, I looked up and was shocked once again or least surprised. Up very high, I could see something strange moving from the west to east; maybe three to five thousand feet – moving very slowly – 20- 30 mph ? It appeared to be best described as a long, white unidentified flying object. As I watched to confirm its presence nearly moving towards above our home, bringing attention to my wife saying, ‘ look another UFO up there.‘
Almost sticking out like a sore thumb – glistening white and also appearing to change shape. She replied hardly looking up, ‘It’s probably the moon,’ and looked back down on her phone. With that answer confirmed – of a closed-minded result confirmation, I then snapped away trying to capture this long, white type of UFO. It did appear to intensely glisten as it was nearly over the house – the sun rays reflection I suspect.
After taking 15 pictures trying to capture it on film for two minutes, only to capture the best of it on six pictures in the bunch, 11:33-11:35, I had lost sight of object travelling directly over the house heading east. I then raced to the backyard to further view it. Now I had further lost sight of it from the backyard, looking around for three – four minutes blocking the sun with the house, I noticed this small brilliant white ‘very‘ high/fast Lear jet type come across from the south heading north’ I mean fast.
Though has not been the first time seeing that type of aircraft before or after a UFO sighting in memory. Honesty once again in the truth of this matter, all of this started from a thought to witness this bizarre sighting above. So I can only conclude there is a form of contact being observed here. Added to the photographic evidence giving confirmation of something high above deemed as totally unknown and bizarre. There appears to be different shapes in the mix photographed here in southwest Oshawa near Lake Ontario. This has been my fifth daylight UFO sighting for 2014; close to equal number of night timers in stats. One cannot dismiss these facts when looking up that something is up above us ALL. At some point near 5400 BCE, settlers in southern Mesopotamia—in what would now be called southeastern Iraq—founded Eridu, which historians now generally regard as the world’s first city. It had all the things we ordinarily associate with an ancient city: temples, administrative buildings, housing, agriculture, markets, art, and, of course, walls to keep out wild animals and bandits.
But here’s the funny thing: we have absolutely no idea where the Sumerians acquired their language, or what they might have looked like. Their language, which we call Sumerian, was a linguistic isolate—it’s the oldest known written language on Earth, and any languages it might have derived from or developed alongside have been lost to time. The Sumerian people were also, it can be reasoned, ethnically isolated; referring to themselves as the sag gigga (“black-headed people”), they appear to have had no concept of race. And figuring out what their ethnic identity might have been based on their art is a doomed effort, because their art was so stylized that a good case could be made that it portrays people of any ethnicity.
Culturally, they’re often linked to the Ma’dan (Marsh Arabs) who still live in southern Iraq. But the idea that the Ma’dan are ethnically Sumerian seems a bit unlikely, as the Sumerian language was not Semitic and the Akkadian conquests of 2334 BCE disrupted the ethnic and cultural isolation of the Sumerian people. By about 2000 BCE, the Sumerians were speaking Akkadian and the Sumerian and Akkadian civilizations were regarded as a single people; there is no evidence in any extant texts that they were discouraged from intermarrying, so we can reasonably assume that it was normal to do so. Given that fact, and the 4,000 years of history between then and now, it seems unlikely that anyone living today has more than a tiny amount of Sumerian ancestry.
Does this mean that we’ll never know how the Sumerian language developed, or where the Sumerians originally came from? Probably, but there are some ways we might find out: an older extant text from the region, written in a proto-Sumerian language, might connect Sumerian with languages that currently seem unrelated. And if any reasonably well-preserved Sumerian bones can be found (which isn’t completely implausible; scientists have successfully sequenced 400,000-year-old human DNA), DNA testing could tell us their ethnic origin. Then again, it’s possible—and, given how little we know about the ancient world, perhaps even probable—that these discoveries will only deepen the mystery.
Astronauts Just Found Life In Outer Space — And Scientists Aren’t Sure How It Got There Image Credit: AP
The news: Russian cosmonauts have discovered something remarkable clinging to the outside of the International Space Station: living organisms.
The microscopic creatures appeared during a space walk intended to clean the vessel’s surface, and were allegedly identified — incredibly — as a type of sea plankton. This is big: According to Sploid, Russian scientists are both “shocked by [the] discovery and can’t really explain how [it] is possible.”
“Results of the experiment are absolutely unique,” Russian ISS Orbital Mission Chief Vladimir Solovyev told the ITAR-TASS News Agency. “This should be studied further.”
Life in space: While not exactly alien life forms, experts are having trouble explaining how the plankton ended up on the station and survived — possibly even grew and multiplied — 205 miles above Earth’s surface.
Some claim they were carried there from the ocean by “uplifting air currents,” according to Sploid. The Mirrorreports the plankton are atypical for Baikanour, Kazakhstan, where the station initially launched, meaning it’s unlikely they were on its hull before it took off.

Sploid‘s Jesus Díaz goes a step further: He suggests their appearance lends credence to the theory that “organic life may have spread across space traveling on comets and asteroids.”
This is less far-fetched than it seems: In 2012, Motherboard aired a documentary short about tardigrades — ”minuscule eight-legged creatures that can withstand extreme conditions, including the vacuum of space,” according to the Atlantic.
Touted as the “first animal to survive in space,” this hardy microorganism boasts limbs, “a mouth, a digestive tract … muscles” and a nervous system,” according tothe film. Its ability to endure such harsh conditions has led scientists to ponder whether it did, in fact, originate in space.
In other words: An alien.
So let your imagination run wild. If tardigrades, sea plankton and other tiny organisms can survive unsheltered in the vast expanses of space, who’s to say their relatives — and relatives’ descendants — never populated or evolved on other worlds the same way life on Earth came about.
Scientists have much to learn about the universe, but such findings mark exciting developments in the ongoing search for extra-terrestrial life.

Owing to the unclear skies, the image is not so clear, but the UFO the witness spotted was visible enough. Among the series of images that were posted online, one photo shows a circular object hovering in the skies. Among the rest, only an object can be seen against the backdrop of dark clouds. One more upload shows a glowing circle which is clear enough.
With various accounts of the sighting, everyone wondered about what the unidentified object in the sky might be. Following this, the Vice President for astronomy at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Dr. Carolyn Sumners stated that they were exploring all possible explanations about what the sighting would have been. This way, they can conclude on what the sighted object actually was.
Dr. Carolyn Sumners also added that if more people had sighted the circular object that day, views of the UFO from different angles could be obtained, thereby giving a clear picture and information about what the object actually was. The rough weather in Houston skies that night could be a reason why onlookers were able to view the UFO that night.
All the sightings that had been captured in this span have been posted on YouTube and are gaining views from all over the world. Many UFO researchers are still wondering about what the sighting in this span might have been, but barely have any answers for the same. This is mainly owing to the lack of high clarity pictures or any other concrete data regarding the UFO.
With no concrete and confirmed information about this sighting available, even UFO researchers are still left clueless about what the sighted object was, with the mystery getting only deepened.

The Voynich Manuscript
The Voynich Manuscript, one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in the world.
The Voynich Manuscript is a manuscript written in the Middle Ages in an unknown language using an unknown alphabet system. Attempts have been made to interpret the document for over 100 years, but there hasn’t been a single breakthrough yet. The Book includes illustrations of plants (with some of them being unknown to modern bottanists) and astronimocal information. It is possible that the book is the work of an alchemist who used codes to keep his discoveries a secret but, untill the book is decoded, no one knows for certain.
Like its contents, the history of ownership of the Voynich manuscript is yet another unsolved mystery. The codex belonged to Emperor Rudolph II of Germany, who purchased it for 600 gold ducats and believed that it was the work of Roger Bacon. It is very likely that Emperor Rudolph acquired the manuscript from the English astrologer John Dee (1527-1608). Dee apparently owned the manuscript along with a number of other Roger Bacon manuscripts. In addition, Dee stated that he had 630 ducats in October 1586, and his son noted that Dee, while in Bohemia, owned “a booke…containing nothing butt Hieroglyphicks, which booke his father bestowed much time upon: but I could not heare that hee could make it out.” Emperor Rudolph seems to have given the manuscript to Jacobus Horcicky de Tepenecz (d. 1622), an exchange based on the inscription visible only with ultraviolet light on folio 1r which reads: “Jacobi de Tepenecz.” Johannes Marcus Marci of Cronland presented the book to Athanasius Kircher (1601-1680) in 1666. In 1912, Wilfred M. Voynich purchased the manuscript from the Jesuit College at Frascati near Rome. In 1969, the codex was given to the Beinecke Library by H. P. Kraus, who had purchased it from the estate of Ethel Voynich, Wilfrid Voynich’s widow.
The Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda Triangle is still one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in the world.
The Bermuda Triangle is a large part of ocean in the North Atlantic that has been the source of many plain- and boat disappearances. A number of explanations have been suggested over the years ranging from; time warps, extreme weather to alien abductions. There is substantial evidence to show that many of the disappearances have been exaggerated, but even if those were excluded from the total count, the odds of vanishing into thin air are higher in the Bermuda Triangle then anywhere else.
Saint Germain, the Immortal Count
Count St. Germain the real Doctor Who?
Is it possible for a person to live forever? That is what some people are claiming about a historical figure known as Count de Saint-Germain. His origins are still unclear. Some records date his birth to the late 1600s, although some believe that his longevity reaches back to the time of Christ. He has appeared many times throughout history – even as recently as the 1970s – always appearing to be about 45 years old. He was known by many of the most famous figures of European history, including Casanova, Madame de Pampadour, Voltaire, King Louis XV, Catherine the Great, Anton Mesmer, George Washington and others. He has also been linked to a number of occult movements and conspiracy theories.
Who was this mysterious man? Are the stories of his immortality mere legend and folklore? Or is it possible that he really did discover the secret of eternal life?
The date of birth for Saint German is unknown, although most accounts say he was born in the 1690s. A genealogy compiled by Annie Besant for her co-authored book, The Comte De St. Germain: The Secret of Kings, asserts that he was born the son of Francis Racoczi II, Prince of Transylvania in 1690. What we do know for certain is that he was an accomplished alchemist, which means he could turn heaps of metal into pure gold. If that wasn’t a neat enough trick already, the count also claimed to have discovered the secret of eternal life! Between 1740 and 1780 Saint-Germain, who was quite a celebrity in those days, traveled extensively throughout Europe – and in all that time never seemed to age. Those who met him were astonished by his many abilities and peculiarities like:
He spoke 12 languages
He could play the violin like a virtuoso.
He was an accomplished painter.
Wherever he traveled, he set up an elaborate laboratory, presumably for his alchemy work.
He seemed to be a man of great wealth, but was not known to have any bank accounts. (If it was due to his ability to transmute base metals into gold, he never performed the feat for observers.)
He dined often with friends because he enjoyed their company, but was rarely seen to eat food in public. He subsisted, it was said, on a diet of oatmeal.
He prescribed recipes for the removal of facial wrinkles and for dyeing hair.
He loved jewels, and much of his clothing – including his shoes – were studded with them.
He had perfected a technique for painting jewels.
He claimed to be able to fuse several small diamonds into one large one. He also said he could make pearls grow to incredible sizes.
He has been linked to several secret societies, including the Rosicrucians, Freemasons, Society of Asiatic Brothers, the Knights of Light, the Illuminati and Order of the Templars.
Officially Saint Germain died in 1784, but of course dying equals having a bad day, when your called the “immortal count”. He would continue to be seen throughout the 19th century and into the 20th century!
In 1785 he was seen in Germany with Anton Mesmer, the pioneer hypnotist. (Some claim that it was Saint-Germain who gave Mesmer the basic ideas for hypnotism and personal magnetism.)
Official records of Freemasonry show that they chose Saint-Germain as their representative for a convention in 1785.
After the taking of the Bastille in the French Revolution in 1789, the Comtesse d’Adhémar said she had a lengthy conversation with Count de Saint-Germain. He allegedly told her of France’s immediate future, as if he knew what was to come. In 1821, she wrote: “I have seen Saint-Germain again, each time to my amazement. I saw him when the queen [Antoinette] was murdered, on the 18th of Brumaire, on the day following the death of the Duke d’Enghien, in January, 1815, and on the eve of the murder of the Duke de Berry.” The last time she saw him was in 1820 – and each time he looked to be a man no older than his mid-40s.
Voltaire, the 18th century philosopher, perhaps best summed up the Count of St. Germain:
this is “a man who never dies, and who knows everything.”
Jack The Ripper
Jack the Ripper has to be the most famous serial killer of all time. He was the most active in 1888 when he committed his hideous crimes mostly in the poor Whitechapel area of London. His victims were mostly prostitutes and in some cases the bodies were found only minutes after Jack the Ripper left the scene. This was especially creepy considering the Ripper took his time to mutilate and surgically remove organs from its victims.
Probably the biggest reason for the enduring appeal of this bizarre series of prostitute murders is the name Jack the Ripper. The name is easy to explain. It was written at the end of a letter which was forwarded it to the Metropolitan Police on 29 September 1988. The letter began “Dear Boss……” It went on to speak of “I am down on whores and I shant quit ripping them till I do get buckled…”; and went on in similar fashion. The “trade name” of Jack the Ripper was then made public and ignited both the imagination and a nation wide panic among the public. None of the 11 brutal murders were ever solved and to this day, we still don’t know anything about the identity of this mysterious serial killer and how many victims he made.
The Taos Hum
The Taos hum is a low-pitched sound that can be heard in various parts of the world. It is described as sounding like the humming of a refrigerator. Strangely a lot of people hear the sound and it is known to drive some people mad, while others don’t hear a thing. The mysterious sound is also undetectable by microphones or any other electronic equipment, making it extremely hard to pinpoint the source. It is most famous for its occurrence in Taos, New Mexico, the town where this mysterious phenomena got its name from. In 1997, the United States Congress asked scientists and observers to find the source of the sound, but they were unable to do so. There are a lot of theories surrounding the Taos Hum. Some say it has to do with the thin earth crust in Taos, while others are convinced it has to do with an alien UFO that crashed eons ago and is now buried deep underground. Whatever the case may be, it sure must suck to get a good night sleep in Taos!
The Shroud Of Turin
The Shroud of Turin is allegedly the burial shroud of Jesus Christ, which bears the image of a crucified man. Despite many scientific investigations, no explenation excists on how the image could have been imprented on the cloth. No attempts to replicate the image have been succesful. Tests date the fabric back to the Middle Ages, but it’s existence has been known since at least the 4th century, and pollen and weave testing put in the time of Jesus.
The Disappearance of Frederick Valentich
20-year old pilot, Frederick Valentich, was attempting to rack up flying time for his commercial license, flying his single engine Cessna 182 to King Island some 130 miles south of Melbourne Australia. He failed to touch down at the King Field airstrip on schedule. At 1906 his last radio transmission was received by Melbourne Flight Service Control on Saturday, October 21, which makes this disappearance unique in the annals of aviation history.
Just before his voice was abruptly cut off after making contact with Melbourne flight controllers, Valentich reported he could see four bright green lights- 1,000 feet above his position: “It is approaching from due east toward me, it seems to be playing some sort of game, flying at a speed I find impossible to estimate” And then: “It is not aircraft, it is…” Finally a long silence, broken when communication was initiated by ground control asking for an identification of the object in question. The young pilot’s answer: “It’s not an aircraft…” and the contact was lost…permanently.
An intensive land, sea and air search was begun by the Australian Navy and Air Force, centered on Bass Strait, 130 miles south of Melbourne and 25miles north of King Island, the point of Valentich’s last radio contact. But the search failed to turn out any trace of the pilot or his aircraft. It was determined that weather conditions at the time of disappearance were ideal, with almost unlimited visibility and a mild breeze. The pilot’s father Guido Valentich strongly believed his son was still alive—that he was being held by someone from another world. More importantly, the elder Valentich said his son had been interested in UFOs for many years and even reported sighting one about 10 months before. There were numerous other witnesses who called police that same night claiming to have seen a UFO on Saturday night. According to a Royal Australian Air Force spokesman, about 10 reports of UFO sightings were logged during the same weekend of the disappearance.
This picture was taken on the day of Valantich’s disappearance and to this day, has not been explained.
This whole mystery got an even more bizarre twist years later. According to the testimony of a number of witnesses, a young man who identified himself as Frederick Valentich, the Australian pilot who mysteriously disappeared in 1978 was alive and well in 1990 at Plaza del Charco, a resort on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Displaying an Australian passport to prove his claim, Valentich told those with whom he spoke on several occasions that he now belonged to a group of humans who had been “recruited” by extraterrestrials. It is also worth noting that the supposed Valentich showed no signs of aging, and resembled the photos circulated around the time of his disappearance at the age of 20. Pretty bizarre huh? I am also very curious what Valantich was doing there at this resort. Did the aliens give him a few days off?

experimental U.S. spacecraft or even some other scientific device, but whatever it is, one man captured it.
After a rainstorm, there have been reported sightings of a UFO floating above Houston, Texas. Several images were being shared online over the following days, including two posted by Nathaniel Xavier, aka DJ Nayyz.
One photo shows a ring of lights in a cloudy night sky illuminated by the moon, and another shows similar lights in a dark night sky.
As these photos were shared around the Internet, several local media outlets covered the sighting.
“I think the trick in UFO’s is figuring out what else they could be. It’s easy to say that could be the aliens,” said Dr. Carolyn Sumners, vice president for astronomy at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, to KPRC News. “If it’s a real object and it looks like it is. The more people who see it in different directions, the more likely we are to figure out where it is, what it is and see if we can explain it,” Sumners said.
Nathaniel Xavier also shared a video on Instagram of the unidentified flying object over Houston.
One expert told the Houston Chronicle what he thought. Fletcher Gray, the volunteer chief investigator for the Texas chapter of the Mutual UFO Network, thought the mysterious circle of lights was a reflection from highway lights because the video was shot through a car window. Gray said, “It’s no more than light trapped in the side window.” He’s basically saying not to call Scully and Mulder just yet.
In the video, it does look like the lights disappear behind a cloud, which would prove Gray’s hypothesis wrong, but that too may be just a trick of the dim light. Whatever the truth may be, these photos and the video have people talking.
Witness said: My Mom and I were headed home from Red Bluff Ca headed north on I-5. We were almost to the Bowman road exit at the time the photo was taken. My Mom asked me to take a picture of the sunset. It was Aug 10, 2014 around 8:30 p.m. After turning on to Bowman Rd. heading west, I saw a bright light in the sky, but quickly lost track of it. I noticed the dates said Aug 11 on the pictures that i took on the way home. The rest of the photos that I took earlier that day were dated Aug 10. I notice it while tranfering pics from phone to pc. I checked the phone and the pc, they both had the right date and time on them.

U.S. expedition yields first breakthrough paper about life under Antarctic ice.
BOZEMAN– The first breakthrough paper to come out of a massive U.S. expedition to one of Earth’s final frontiers shows that there’s life and an active ecosystem one-half mile below the surface of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, specifically in a lake that hasn’t seen sunlight or felt a breath of wind for millions of years.
The life is in the form of microorganisms that live beneath the enormous Antarctic ice sheet and convert ammonium and methane into the energy required for growth. Many of the microbes are single-celled organisms known as Archaea, said Montana State University professor John Priscu, the chief scientist of the U.S. project called WISSARD that sampled the sub-ice environment. He is also co-author of the MSU author-dominated paper in the Aug. 21 issue of Nature, an international weekly journal for all fields of science and technology.
“We were able to prove unequivocally to the world that Antarctica is not a dead continent,” Priscu said, adding that data in the Nature paper is the first direct evidence that life is present in the subglacial environment beneath the Antarctic ice sheet.
Lead author Brent Christner said, “It’s the first definitive evidence that there’s not only life, but active ecosystems underneath the Antarctic ice sheet, something that we have been guessing about for decades. With this paper, we pound the table and say, ‘Yes, we were right.’”
Priscu said he wasn’t entirely surprised that the team found life after drilling through half a mile of ice to reach Subglacial Lake Whillans in January 2013. An internationally renowned polar biologist, Priscu researches both the South and North Poles. This fall will be his 30th field season in Antarctica, and he has long predicted the discovery.
More than a decade ago, he published two manuscripts in the journal Science describing for the first time that microbial life can thrive in and under Antarctic ice. Five years ago, he published a manuscript where he predicted that the Antarctic subglacial environment would be the planet’s largest wetland, one not dominated by the red-winged blackbirds and cattails of typical wetland regions in North America, but by microorganisms that mine minerals in rocks at subzero temperatures to obtain the energy that fuels their growth.
Following more than a decade of traveling the world presenting lectures describing what may lie beneath Antarctic ice, Priscu was instrumental in convincing U.S. national funding agencies that this research would transform the way we view the fifth largest continent on the planet.
Although he was not really surprised about the discovery, Priscu said he was excited by some of the details of the Antarctic find, particularly how the microbes function without sunlight at subzero temperatures and the fact that evidence from DNA sequencing revealed that the dominant organisms are archaea. Archaea is one of three domains of life, with the others being Bacteria and Eukaryote.
Many of the subglacial archaea use the energy in the chemical bonds of ammonium to fix carbon dioxide and drive other metabolic processes. Another group of microorganisms uses the energy and carbon in methane to make a living. According to Priscu, the source of the ammonium and methane is most likely from the breakdown of organic matter that was deposited in the area hundreds of thousands of years ago when Antarctica was warmer and the sea inundated West Antarctica. He also noted that, as Antarctica continues to warm, vast amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, will be liberated into the atmosphere enhancing climate warming.
The U.S. team also proved that the microorganisms originated in Lake Whillans and weren’t introduced by contaminated equipment, Priscu said. Skeptics of his previous studies of Antarctic ice have suggested that his group didn’t actually discover microorganisms, but recovered microbes they brought in themselves.
“We went to great extremes to ensure that we did not contaminate one of the most pristine environments on our planet while at the same time ensuring that our samples were of the highest integrity,” Priscu said.
Extensive tests were conducted at MSU two years ago on WISSARD’s borehole decontamination system to ensure that it worked, and Priscu led a publication in an international journal presenting results of these tests. This decontamination system was mated to a one-of-a-kind hot water drill that was used to melt a borehole through the ice sheet, which provided a conduit to the subglacial environment for sampling.
Every day in Antarctica, he would tell his team to keep it simple, Priscu said. To prove that an ecosystem existed below the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, he wanted at least three lines of evidence. They had to see microorganisms under the microscope that came from Lake Whillans and not contaminated equipment. They then had to show that the microorganisms were alive and growing. They had to be identifiable by their DNA.
When the team found those things, he knew they had succeeded, Priscu said.
The Whillans Ice Stream Subglacial Access Research Drilling (WISSARD) project officially began in 2009 with a $10 million grant from the National Science Foundation. Now involving 13 principal investigators at eight U.S. institutions, the researchers drilled down to Subglacial Lake Whillans in January 2013. The microorganisms they discovered are still being analyzed at MSU and other collaborating institutions.
Christner said species are hard to determine in microbiology, but “We are looking at a water column that probably has about 4,000 things we call species. It’s incredibly diverse.”
Planning to drill again this austral summer in a new Antarctic location, Priscu said WISSARD was the first large-scale multidisciplinary effort to directly examine the biology of an Antarctic subglacial environment. The Antarctic Ice Sheet covers an area 1 ½ times the size of the United States and contains 70 percent of Earth's freshwater, and any significant melting can drastically increase sea level. Lake Whillans, one of more than 200 known lakes beneath the Antarctic Ice Sheet and the primary lake in the WISSARD study, fills and drains about every three years. The river that drains Lake Whillans flows under the Ross Ice Shelf, which is the size of France, and feeds the Southern Ocean, where it can provide nutrients for life and influence water circulation patterns.
The opportunity to explore the world under the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is an unparalleled opportunity for the U.S. team, as well as for several MSU-affiliated researchers who are part of that team and wrote or co-authored the Nature paper, Priscu said.
Christner, for one, was a postdoctoral researcher with Priscu and Mark Skidmore at MSU from 2002 through 2006. He is now associate professor of biological sciences at Louisiana State University. Jill Mikucki, now an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, was one of Priscu’s doctoral students. Skidmore is a glacial geochemist in MSU’s Department of Earth Sciences. Andrew Mitchell, now at Aberystwyth University in the United Kingdom, was a postdoctoral researcher with MSU’s Center for Biofilm Engineering. Alex Michaud and Trista Vick-Majors are currently earning their doctorates in Priscu’s research group at MSU. Other MSU people on the team were Education and Outreach Coordinator Susan Kelly and Project Manager John Sherve.
The fact that MSU was so involved reflects the fact that it is pioneering a new field of science, Priscu said. MSU is the common ancestor of many scientists who study life in and under ice.
“I always tell my students when they come into the lab that ‘We are inventing this field of science. It’s working on life in ice and under ice. This field has never existed before. We thought it up. You are pioneers,’” Priscu said.
Appreciative of the opportunity to participate in WISSARD, Vick-Majors said she saw bacteria under the microscope within an hour after the first sample of water was pulled out of Subglacial Lake Whillans. Within days, she saw proof that the bacteria were active.
“It was very exciting. It will be hard to top,” she said.
She added that, “If you want to do microbial ecology in Antarctic subglacial environments, John is probably the person you want to work with. I feel very lucky to have gotten the opportunity.”
Agreeing, Michaud said, “Some of the graduate students joke, ‘How do we top this?’ We can’t.”
But the students can build on their WISSARD experience and gain a deeper understanding of Subglacial Lake Whillans and other subglacial habitats, he said. It’s not about going out and finding more novel habitats.
Christner said the team that wrote the paper in Nature is the dream team of polar biology. Besides the MSU-affiliated scientists, the co-authors include Amanda Achberger, a graduate student at Louisiana State University; Carlo Barbante, a geochemist at the University of Venice in Italy; Sasha Carter, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California in San Diego; and Knut Christianson a postdoctoral researcher from St. Olaf College in Minnesota and New York University.
“I hope this exciting discovery will touch the lives (both young and old) of people throughout the world and inspire the next generation of polar scientists,” Priscu said.
Cigar – shaped UFO sighting over Michigan on 19th August 2014
Witness said: I was taking pictures with my Nikon D3100 camera using a 18mm-55mm lens to capture lightning strikes from a storm that was heading over my residence. The storm came in from the west and was moving east/southeast and I had my camera on continuous shooting. A lightning bolt was discharged from the wall cloud. It is the only time a lightning bolt came from this cloud and within a few seconds after the bolt struct, I managed to capture 2 pictures of this object. After taking approximately 145 photos of this storm, I saw 2 pictures with a cigar shaped object following the south end of the wall cloud. I did not see this object at all while shooting them. It was only visible after I reviewed my photos on my computer.
The object was a dull gray/black, solid body, no lights or windows. There were NO wings, tail or protruding areas coming from this object. The ends are rounded and fits the cigar shape perfectly. It was approximately 30-50 ft in length (estimate) and about 700-900 ft high (again, estimate) and it followed in back of the main wall cloud that contained high winds and rain. It moved to the east, along with the storm. It had moved hundreds of feet in less than 4 seconds. There were no airplanes or helicopters in this area mainly because of the storm that was approaching. The only noise that was heard was the storm itself. A few times my camera would NOT shoot to capture images. So gaps were as long as 5 seconds on some of the pictures. While most images of the storm and object were captured, fluently, I had to refocus a few times in order to get the camera to shoot some of the images (although no object was visible in those pictures).
I have included pictures of this object. Also sending the stretch between the first sighting of the object and a couple of in between pictures to show you a time sequence from the first picture of the craft to the last picture of it. Also included, are pictures of the readings on my camera at the time they were taken.
UFO sighting over Ketchikan, Alaska on 19th August 2014
Witness said: I was on a small cruise ship touring in the Ketchikan area (the Tongass Narrows) with a group of co-workers and friends. At about 8:00 PM, I was taking some photos of the sunset with my iPhone. I took three shots of the sunset. The following evening, as I downloaded the photos to my computer, I noticed the bright light in the sky (upper left corner of all three photos at slightly different angles since the boat we were traveling was heading north or north-west as I was taking the sunset photos. I did not notice the bright light in the sky as I was taking the photos, yet the light object is clearly in the photo. Since I did not see the object directly at time of the photo, I cannot say that it was actually moving in the sky. On the photo the object or light appears oval of possibly disk shaped.

Such was the Indian name of the site of Westboro, Massachusetts, and the neighboring pond was Hochomocko. The camp of the red men near the shore was full of bustle one day, for their belle, Iano, was to marry the young chief, Sassacus. The feast was spread and all were ready to partake of it, when it was found that the bride was missing. One girl had seen her steal into the wood with a roguish smile on her lip, and knew that she intended to play hide-and-seek with Sassacus before she should be proclaimed a wife, but the day wore on and she did not come. Among those who were late in reaching camp was Wequoash, who brought a panther in that he had slain on Boston Hill, and he bragged about his skill, as usual. There had been a time when he was a rival of the chief for the hand of Iano, and he showed surprise and concern at her continued absence. The search went on for two days, and, at the end of that time, the girl’s body was taken from the lake.
At the funeral none groaned so piteously as Wequoash. Yet Sassacus felt his loss so keenly that he fell into a sickness next day, and none was found so constant in his ministrations as Wequoash; but all to no avail, for within a week Sassacus, too, was dead. As the strongest and bravest remaining in the tribe, Wequoash became heir to his honors by election.
A year later he sat moodily by the lakeside, when a flame burst up from the water, and a canoe floated toward him that a mysterious agency impelled him to enter. Spokane Valley, WA – 4/3/2014: That night my husband and I were sleeping when I started to get excessively warm. I went to kick off my blankets but found that I couldn’t move my legs. I tired to move my arms and had no luck. I was only able to move my head enough to see an entity standing at the foot of the bed. I turned my head and noticed two more standing along the side of the bed behind my husband and he had an obviously disturbed look on his face almost as if he could tell they were there. Our pom-chi dog was whining in her carrier where she sleeps, she’s normally really quiet and doesn’t wake us that often unless it is something serious. The entities stood there for what felt like half an hour before the slowly started to vanish.
I did not really see much of the object that they could have come in on because it was outside. It was kind of a triangle shape when it took off and had been hovering about 100-200 feet off the ground. Our cell phones didn’t work right for the entire day following and we’ve had electronic problems since the incident. The object moved south before going over the mountains.

It may be common for psychiatric patients who are Muslim to attribute their hallucinations or other symptoms to “jinn,” the invisible, devilish creatures in Islamic mythology, researchers in the Netherlands have found.
The findings demonstrate one way in which culture may influence how people perceive their psychotic symptoms, and could help Western psychiatrists better understand patients who have an Islamic background.
Moreover, in today’s connected world, patients may fuse the symbols from their own backgrounds with those of other cultures to explain their symptoms, study leader Dr. Jan Dirk Blom, an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Groningen, told Live Science.
In Islamic mythology, Jinn, or djinn, are supernatural creatures made of smokeless fire. They are frequently found in Islamic folklore and are mentioned in the Quran, the religious text of Islam. Historically, they are portrayed as menacing creatures that can harm humans, or drive them mad. By understanding how lizards regrow tissue it may be possible to enable the same process in humans.
Imagine being able to regrow a missing arm after an amputation or being able to regenerate your spinal cord after an accident has left you paralyzed – it might sound impossible now but scientists may soon be able to come up with a way to make it actually happen.
The key is believed to lie in the way in which a lizard can grow back its entire tail – a scale of regeneration that is unheard of throughout most of the animal kingdom.
“Lizards are the most closely-related animals to humans that can regenerate entire appendages,” said lead author Kenro Kusumi. “We discovered that they turn on at least 326 genes in specific regions of the regenerating tail, including genes involved in embryonic development, response to hormonal signals and wound healing.”
The researchers believe that they have identified the unique genetic “recipe” for limb regeneration in lizards and that given enough time, the same processes could be enabled in humans as well.

I can say beyond a shadow of doubt that the sighting of lights definitely was NOT a reflection and to offer that as a plausible explanation is pure nonsense. I live approximately 70 miles NW of Houston. Although Houston had rain, we had no rain that evening, Monday 8/11/14. I was not in a car and clearly saw the unidentifiable lights. From my vantage point I saw a ring of colored lights, some brighter than others, that appeared to be a round to oblong shaped ring of lights. The ring of lights seemed as if the ring was standing on edge and appeared to change shape as if the ring would partially rotate on a perpendicular axis in one direction to another and at one point seemed to tilt. The lights then just vanished and were no longer visible without apparent streaking away. I thought at first a helicopter or plane, but realized that clearly was not the case. I was driving down the read on my ranch cart heading in the direction of the object. The bright colored abnormal lights is what caught my attention just above a distant tree line. It was not a typical rotary nor fixed wing aircraft. Feelings, wonderment, wanted visually confirmation what I was seeing. The road is hilly as the geography. The objects became obscured by the tree line as the road changed.

HERMOSILLO, SON.- The opening of a crack in a little over a mile long and up to eight feet deep became trending on Twitter, including users of this social network in Hermosillo.
The Friday evening event was recorded in the Suaqui Ejido Candelaria, located 81.3 km west of the city of Hermosillo, two hours away by car, and is 90 meters above sea level.
Alan Hernandez was the person who posted the images, finding the place the length and depth of the crack, which opened on a road leading to the aforementioned ejido The Jojobal vineyard near the Poblado Miguel Aleman.
Inhabitants of the area surrounding ranches said they had no record of an event of this kind in recent years. Photographs received dozens of comments and 50 retweets between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Deputies confiscate 2,000 animals from Louisiana home
Officials in Louisiana made a startling discovery on Friday, finding approximately two thousand animals, the majority in poor condition, living at a home in Lawtell just west of Baton Rouge. The owner, 64-year-old Donald Lefleur, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
“(There were) dogs, cats, geese, chickens, pheasants, a little bit of everything. Also, snakes.” said St. Landry Parish Director of Administration, Jessie Bellard. Rabbits, peacocks, and turtles were also rescued. The stench alone could be smelled from the road. Tipped off from a caller out of New Orleans, Bellard said he immediately obtained a warrant after visiting the house and seeing the conditions inside.
“The smell was horrendous,” said Bellard. “The chickens were in some little crates and they lived in faeces until it built up so much they could jump out of the crate.” Bellard says around 100 chickens were roaming inside and 20 dogs were living in crates, some so small they could barely move. It took most of the day for crews to find and collect all the animals. Also found around the property, rotting carcasses and chickens eating other chickens.
But what Bellard found most shocking was Lefleur’s reaction to the seizure. “He was very surprised that we were going to take his animals,” said Bellard. “He didn’t think he did anything wrong.” Some animals are in such bad shape, they’ll have to be euthanized. But there is hope for others – albeit a long road to recovery. “The employees are going to have to make sure all animals are accounted for and documented and the veterinarians are going to be looking at the 4-legged animals,” said Bellard. Once they are treated and deemed healthy, they’ll be up for adoption or a foster home. – KLFY
Paricutin, The Volcano That Grew Out Of A Cornfield
Rarely do volcanologist get to watch the birth, growth, and death of a volcano. Paricutin provided such an opportunity. Paricutin is a cinder cone volcano located in the state of Michoacan, in Mexico, close to a lava-covered village of the same name. The volcano erupted on February 20, 1943, and continued erupting till 1952, during which it destroyed the villages of Parícutin and San Juan Parangaricutiro, burying both beneath ash and lava. San Juan Parangaricutiro’s church spire is all that remains of the village, poking out of the now solidified lava rock.
—Unlike most volcanoes, Parícutin volcano didn’t exist until that fateful day. This makes the volcano unique because it is one of the very few volcanoes whose birth has been witnessed by man. The volcano is located about 200 miles west of Mexico City, in the Michoacan-Guanajuato volcanic field, that contains about 1,400 volcanic vents. Paricutin is the youngest volcano to form in the Northern Hemisphere.
Jarrett tended to forget things when he was drinking.
He once forgot that he hated cheesecake and ate an entire President’s Choice chocolate cheesecake all by himself. The next morning when he’d heard what he had done, he threw it all up again. Not because he felt sick at the time, just because he was disgusted that he had eaten it in the first place.
Jarrett also loved dares when he was drunk. Giving them, taking them.
This obviously made for a very interesting and dangerous combination. . . .
The last day of classes before summer break there was a huge bonfire down by the lake. A bunch of us from film class went, and then we called our other friends, and they called their other friends, and soon enough the lakeside was packed.
Anybody could have picked Jarrett out of that crowd, party animal that he was. He was swinging around that bottle of tequila so much that I was surprised he could be that drunk, given that it was splashing out at an alarming rate. But that was Jarrett, and I wasn’t surprised to later find out that he had been drinking from a vodka filled water bottle during his last exam.
He was drunker than anyone else at the party and he wanted everyone to know it. He kept shouting out for contests, dares, anything, just to prove to us how manly he was.
The party started to peter out around 3 in the morning, and by 4, it was just seven of us, all sitting around the fire, some of us passed out, most of us minutes away. But not Jarrett… Tank that he was, he was still vertical, though barely. By 4:30, everyone was asleep except Jarrett, the hot blonde next to him, and me. I was laying back against a huge piece of driftwood, and just watched the whole thing play out.
I listened as the hot blonde asked Jarrett to go jumping off the pier. As he drunkenly slurred to her that it probably wasn’t a good idea. As she flirted back with him, then lifted up her sweatshirt and threw it to the ground. As she dared him.
I just watched.
Jarrett never learned how to swim.
They ran off, stumbling the entire way, and I just sat there and watched.
I was the only one Jarrett had ever told that he couldn’t swim. I guess he forgot that night.

What happened when the others woke up?
Not much. No one really realized what had happened. The hot blonde had disappeared, she was pretty traumatized. I just pretended I had been asleep or passed out, like everyone else. It was a pretty clear cut-case to the cops of another teenager being an idiot.
What was the dare that injured you, If you don’t mind me asking?
Ski accident a few years ago. Jarrett thought it would be funny to dare me to go off-trail in front of our whole group – and once Jarrett gets an idea in his head, he sees it through. Was waiting for a couple hours until someone came to see why I didn’t make it out.
Multiple witnesses reported glowing orbs of lights in the night skies over North Carolina beaches this weekend. The UFO sightings, along with a couple pictures of the objects, were submitted to WWAY out of Wilmington, NC, who reported on the unusual objects.
Woozy Dell told WWAY that she spotted the lights Saturday night over Ocean Isle beach, where she is vacationing. “I thought that’s a strange light. Maybe it’s a helicopter light, and I was watching them go, and they sorta did like a half circle,” Dell said. She continued, “And then I saw another one come, and then I thought this is bizarre, and it got a little interesting.”

Then more lights began to appear. Dell says, “So I saw two, and then I started seeing three, and then I started seeing four, and then I started counting them, because I thought, ‘My gosh. What is this?”
She described the orbs as “orangeish-red, but when it went back around it was white.”

The next day, Dell asked around to see if anyone else had seen the lights, and she says at least one person told her they had.
WWAY says they also received an email from another person who claims to have seen UFOs on Saturday at nearby Wrightsville Beach. This person said they were with a friend. In the email, the witness describes seeing similar strange lights at around 4 a.m. They watched the objects for around three hours. The witness says they thought the lights were planets at first, but then they began making “erratic motions.”

Dell says of her sighting, “It is certainly an unidentified object, and it was in the sky, and then went away, and it was, the lights, were so unusual that it was something you don’t forget.”
She also hopes to see the objects again. “I have to admit,” Dell laughed, “I did go out the next night looking. And tonight looks like a clear night, so…”
The latest oddity spotted by bloggers who follow the images coming from Mars rover Curiosity doesn’t take a lot of imagination to see. It really looks like a thigh bone. Well, some kind of bone.
According to UFO Blogger, the rover captured the image on Aug. 14. It’s the latest in a string of fossilized animals and other unexplained phenomena that bloggers have reported.
These sightings include an iguana, a cat, a dinosaur spine, two dinosaurs, a mysterious light, a toy boat, a half-human and half-goat face and a rock that popped up from one image to the next when the rover wasn’t on the move (see all the photos above). NASA itself was initially puzzled by that one but determined the rock changed position when the rover turned in place and pushed the rock.
Curiosity has been on Mars since Aug. 6, 2012. It completed its first Martian year — 687 Earth days — on June 24.

A blogger who maintains the site “Mars Anomalies, UFO Sightings and More” pointed out the feline shape in a NASA Mars rover photo.
A team of scientists has discovered living microbes in a subglacial lake below Antarctica.
Researchers with the Whillans Ice Stream Subglacial Access Research Drilling (WISSARD) project successfully drilled through the Antarctic ice reaching Lake Whillans in January 2013. After collecting both water and sediment cores, the team returned to the United States to test the samples. Researchers were surprised and thrilled to discover that, not only are microbes alive in the lake, but it is also an active ecosystem.

Researchers conclude that Lake Whillans is home to nearly 4,000 species of single-celled organisms.
This isn’t the first time scientists have recovered microbes from such an extreme environment. Researchers discovered 100,000-year-old microbes in the sediment beneath another subglacial Antarctic lake, Lake Hodgson, in September 2013. Another Antarctic lake, Lake Vida, was found to have “a diverse and thriving community of microbes” in November 2012. But the WISSARD team asserts that its microbes are the first organisms ever retrieved from a subglacial Antarctic lake because previous studies didn’t take enough precautions to eliminate the possibility of contamination.
Astrobiologists are very interested in life like these microbes that are able to live and thrive in extreme conditions. As New Scientist explains, “The finding is good news for astrobiologists hoping to discover life elsewhere in the solar system: in the ocean beneath the frozen surface of Jupiter’s moon Europa, for instance, or clinging on under the Martian polar ice caps.”
The team’s research is published in the journal Nature.

Tiwanaku (Spanish: Tiahuanaco and Tiahuanacu) is an important Pre-Columbianarchaeological site in western Bolivia, South America. Pumapunku also called “Puma Pumku” or “Puma Puncu”, is part of a large temple complex or monument group that is part of the Tiwanaku. Tiahuanaco is an example of engineering so monumental that it dwarfs even the work of the Aztecs. Stone blocks on the site weigh many tons. They bear no chisel marks, so the means by which they were shaped remains a mystery.The stone itself came from two different quarries. One supplied sandstone and was situated 10 miles away. It shows signs of having produced blocks weighing up to 400 tons. The other supplied andesite and was located 50 miles away, raising the question of how the enormous blocks were transported in an age before the horse wasdomesticated in South America. Close examination of the structures shows an unusual technique behind their building. The stone blocks were notched, then fitted together so that they interlocked in three dimensions. The result was buildings strong enough to withstand earthquakes.

Sacsayhuamán (also known as Sacsahuaman) is a walled complex near the old city of Cusco, at an altitude of 3,701 m. or 12,000 feet. The site is part of the City of Cuzco, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983.

They are three parallel walls built in different levels with lime-stones of enormous sizes. Zigzagging walls are made of boulders used for the first or lower levels are the biggest; there is one that is 8.5 m high (28 ft.) and weights about 140 metric tons. Those boulders classify the walls as being of cyclopean or megalithic architecture. There are no other walls like these. They are different from Stonehenge, different from the Pyramids of the Egyptians and the Maya, different from any of the other ancient monolithic stone-works. Scientists are not certain how these huge stones were transported and processed to fit so perfectly that no blade of grass or steel can slide between them. There is no mortar. Stonehenge is a megalithic monument on the Salisbury Plain in Southern England, composed mainly of thirty upright stones (sarsens, each over ten feet tall and weighing 26 tons), aligned in a circle, with thirty lintels (6 tons each) perched horizontally atop the sarsens in a continuous circle. There is also an inner circle composed of similar stones, also constructed in post-and-lintel fashion.
Stonehenge is angled such that on the equinoxes and the solstices, the sun rising over the horizon appears to be perfectly placed between gaps in the megaliths. This is doubtless not an accident, and probably contributed to the stories of its mysterious origins.
Gerald Hawkins, a Professor of Astronomy, concluded that Stonehenge was a sophisticated astronomical observatory designed to predict eclipses (Stonehenge Decoded). The positioning of the stones provides a wealth of information, as does the choice of the site itself. If you can see the alignment, general relationship, and the use of these stones then you will know the reason for the construction. The author, and other astronomers, discovered the 56-year cycle of eclipses by decoding Stonehenge! The movement of stones once each year from an initial fixed position allows to predict accurately every important lunar event for hundreds of years. This computer would need resetting about once every 300 years by advancing the stones by one space. Mankind generally used the cycle of the moon as a unit of timekeeping.
One of the strangest mysteries in archaeology was discovered in the Diquis Delta of Costa Rica. Since the 1930s, hundreds of stone balls have been documented, ranging in size from a few centimetres to over two meters in diameter. Some weigh 16 tons. Almost all of them are made of granodiorite, a hard, igneous stone. These objects are monolithic sculptures made by human hands.

The Temple of Jupiter is one of the most impressive Temples in Baalbeck. It measures 88×48 meters and stands on a podium 13 meters above the surrounding terrain and 7 meters above the courtyard. It is reached by a monumental stairway. One of the most amazing engineering achievements is the Podium which was built with some of the largest stone blocks ever hewn. On the west side of the podium is the “Trilithon”, a celebrated group of three enormous stones weighing about 800 tons each.
Some archaeologists might well wish that Baalbek had been buried forever. For it is here that we find the largest dressed stone block in the world – the infamous Stone of the South, lying in its quarry just ten minutes walk from the temple acropolis. This huge stone weighs approximately 1,000 tons – almost as heavy as three Boeing 747 aircraft.

The Great Pyramid of Giza (also called the Khufu’s Pyramid, Pyramid of Khufu, and Pyramid of Cheops) is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis bordering what is now Cairo, Egypt, and is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that survives substantially intact. It is believed the pyramid was built as a tomb for Fourth dynasty Egyptian King Khufu (Cheops in Greek) and constructed over a 20 year period concluding around 2560 BC. The Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years.
Originally the Great Pyramid was covered by casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface, and what is seen today is the underlying core structure. Some of the casing stones that once covered the structure can still be seen around the base. There have been varying scientific and alternative theories regarding the Great Pyramid’s construction techniques. Most accepted construction theories are based on the idea that it was built by moving huge stones from a quarry and dragging and lifting them into place.
The Shroud of Turin is reputedly Christ’s burial cloth. It has been a religious relic since the Middle Ages. To believers it was divine proof the Christ was resurrected from the grave, to doubters it was evidence of human gullibility and one of the greatest hoaxes in the history of art. No one has been able to prove that it is the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth, but its haunting image of a man’s wounded body is proof enough for true believers.
The Shroud of Turin, as seen by the naked eye, is a negative image of a man with his hands folded. The linen is 14 feet, 3 inches long and 3 feet, 7 inches wide. The shroud bears the image of a man with wounds similar to those suffered by Jesus.
One theory is simply that the Shroud is a painting . It has been proposed that it was painted using iron oxide in an animal protein binder. The STURP scientists have concluded from their studies that no paints, pigments, dyes or stains have been found to make up the visible image. Could the image have been produced by a burst of radiation (heat or light) acting over short period of time which would have scorched the cloth? Scientists have not been able to duplicate the characteristics of the Shroud using this method just like the painting hypothesis. Also the color and ultraviolet characteristics of the Shroud body image and a scorch are different. The shroud body image does not fluoresce under UV light but scorches like the burns from 1532 do fluoresce under UV light. Thus many scientists rule out the radiation theory.
In the 1930?s, in a small rural village 100 miles southwest of Chihuahua, Mexico, at the back of a mine tunnel, two mysterious remains were found: a complete human skeleton and a smaller, malformed skeleton. In late February of 1999, Lloyd Pye was first shown the Starchild skull by its owners. Nameless then, it was a highly anomalous skull.

The long-standing Star Being legends of Central and South America provide a plausible mechanism for how a highly abnormal skull (relative to humans) might have been biologically created rather than genetically or congenitally malformed, or physically manipulated by deliberate deformation (binding). Such immense deformation across the entire occipital (rear) and parietal (upper side) areas of the skull could not result from binding without deformation being visible in the frontal area, which is not evident. Birth defects across the entire occipital and parietal areas, while not impossible, seem highly unlikely because of the remarkable symmetry exhibited in all areas of the skull, including those effected by the deformations. The terrain of the bone in the eye sockets contains incredibly subtle indentations and ridges that are perfectly symmetrical in both sockets, which simply have to have been formed by genetic directions rather than by deformations.

Nothing like this instrument is preserved elsewhere. Nothing comparable to it is known. from any ancient scientific text or literary allusion. On the contrary, from all that we know of science and technology in the Hellenistic Age we should have felt that such a device could not exist. Some historians have suggested that the Greeks were not interested in experiment because of a contempt-perhaps induced by the existence of the institution of slavery-for manual labor. On the other hand it has long been recognized that in abstract mathematics and in mathematical astronomy they were no beginners but rather “fellows of another college” who reached great heights of sophistication. Many of the Greek scientific devices known to us from written descriptions show much mathematical ingenuity, but in all cases the purely mechanical part of the design seems relatively crude. Gearing was clearly known to the Greeks, but it was used only in relatively simple applications. They employed pairs of gears to change angular speed or mechanical ad- vantage, or to apply power through a right angle, as in the water-driven mill.
