De steen werd zo’n 12 miljoen jaar geleden weggeworpen en blijkt te bestaan uit duizenden organische verbindingen.

Op 16 januari 2018 verscheen over het Midden-Westen van de Verenigde Staten een heldere vuurbol aan de nachtelijke hemel. De meteoor haastte zich door de lucht en landde vervolgens op een bevroren meer in de Amerikaanse staat Michigan. Wetenschappers en meteorietjagers wisten niet hoe snel ze zich naar de landingsplek moesten begeven om de brokstukken op te rapen, voordat de chemische samenstelling door blootstelling aan vloeibaar water zou worden aangetast. Ze kwamen op tijd. Want de neergestorte meteoriet geeft onderzoekers nu een ongekend inkijkje in een miljoenen jaren oude ruimterots.

Meteoroïde, meteoor of meteoriet?
Meteorieten zijn simpel gezegd ruimterotsen die op aarde zijn gevallen. Wanneer rotsbrokken in de ruimte tegen elkaar botsen, kunnen er stukjes afbreken. Deze stukjes rots, meteoroïden genaamd, blijven door de ruimte zweven en komen soms op ramkoers te liggen met planeten of hun manen. Wanneer een meteoroïde door de atmosfeer van de aarde scheert en we hem vervolgens als een vuurbol of vallende ster waarnemen, wordt hij een meteoor genoemd. Alle stukjes van die meteoor die de reis door de atmosfeer overleven en op het aardoppervlak neerstorten, noemen we meteorieten.


Minder dan twee dagen na de landing vond meteorietjager Robert Ward het eerste stukje van de meteoriet op het bevroren oppervlak van Strawberry Lake, nabij de Amerikaanse plaats Hamburg. “Ik heb het hele weekend de meteoriet geanalyseerd, omdat ik zo benieuwd was wat voor soort meteoriet ik onder ogen had en waar hij precies uit bestond,” vertelt onderzoeker Jennika Greer. “Bij elke meteoriet die valt bestaat de kans dat het iets compleet nieuws en totaal onverwachts is.” De onderzoekers ontdekten dat de meteoriet een zogenoemde H4-chondriet is. En dat is zeldzaam. Slechts vier procent van alle meteorieten die op aarde inslaan, kunnen onder dit type geschaard worden.

Geluk
De wetenschappers hadden geluk. Omdat de meteoriet neerkwam op een bevroren meer, behield hij zijn ongerepte aard. “Doordat het meer bevroren was is ie nooit in contact geweest met vloeibaar water,” vertelt onderzoeker Philipp Heck aan Scientias.nl. “Hierdoor is hij niet echt verontreinigd geraakt met terrestrische organische stoffen. Meteorieten lopen vaak scheurtjes op en eenmaal geland kan vloeibaar water gemakkelijk deze scheurtjes binnendringen. De Hamburg-meteoriet is echter één van de weinige meteorieten die dit lot heeft kunnen ontwijken. Dat is wat deze meteoriet zo opmerkelijk maakt.”

De betreffende meteoriet die in 2018 neerkwam op het Strawberry Lake in de Amerikaanse staat Michigan.

De onderzoekers ontdekten dat de Hamburg-meteoriet een rijke voorraad buitenaardse organische verbindingen bevat. “Ik vond het verbazingwekkend hoeveel organische verbindingen er nog in deze meteoriet zaten, ondanks zijn thermische metamorfose,” zegt Heck. “Deze meteoriet bevat echt duizenden organische verbindingen. Dit soort organische verbindingen zijn waarschijnlijk door meteorieten aan de vroege aarde geleverd en hebben mogelijk bijgedragen aan de bouwstenen voor leven.”

Superpizza
De gevonden verbindingen zijn waarschijnlijk zo’n 4,5 miljard jaar geleden in het moederlichaam gevormd, direct nadat deze het levenslicht zag. “Hij was op dat moment nog heet door aanwas en door het verval van radioactieve elementen die aanwezig waren in het vroege zonnestelsel,” legt Heck uit. Waarschijnlijk bevatte het moederlichaam miljoenen verbindingen die uiteindelijk, mede door temperatuurschommelingen, kelderden tot enkele duizenden. De onderzoekers gebruikten een breed scala aan analytische technieken en bestudeerden monsters uit verschillende delen van de meteoriet om een zo volledig mogelijk beeld van de ruimtebrok en de mineralen die hij bevat, te scheppen. “Je leert veel meer over een meteoriet als je verschillende stukjes ‘proeft’,” vertelt Greer. “Het is net een superpizza. Als je maar naar een klein stukje proeft, zou je kunnen denken dat de pizza alleen uit peperoni bestaat. Maar er kunnen ergens anders nog champignons en paprika’s te vinden zijn.”

Organische verbindingen
De onderzoekers kwamen op die manier veel ongerepte, buitenaardse organische verbindingen op het spoor. “De organische verbindingen die we in de neergestorte meteoriet aantroffen, zijn in methanol oplosbare verbindingen,” gaat Heck verder. “De meest voorkomende zijn polaire koolwaterstoffen, gevolgd door zwavel- en stikstofhoudende verbindingen. We moeten echter nog veel werk verzetten om de verschillende verbindingen en processen die de organische stoffen hebben doorstaan, beter te begrijpen.”

Leven op aarde
De meteoriet geeft ons een uniek inkijkje in de ongerepte organische verbindingen die ons meer zouden kunnen vertellen over de oorsprong van het leven. Veel wetenschappers denken namelijk dat meteorieten belangrijke mineralen naar de aarde gebracht kunnen hebben, waar uiteindelijk het leven zoals wij dat kennen uit voort is gekomen. “Ik denk dat het feit dat we alleen al in de Hamburg-meteoriet 2600 organische verbindingen hebben aangetroffen, aantoont dat veel meteorieten organische stoffen kunnen afleveren,” zegt Heck. “In onze studie troffen we een grote diversiteit aan organische stoffen aan. Er bestaan echter ook meteorieten, zoals de Murchison-meteoriet die 51 jaar geleden neerstortte, die veel minder heet zijn geweest en rijker zijn aan organische stoffen. Het zou goed kunnen dat zelfs ver voordat leven op aarde bestond, dergelijke meteorieten op aarde – en mogelijk ook op andere planeten – neerploften en bouwstenen voor leven afleverden.”

Meer over de Murchison-meteoriet
De Murchison-meteoriet is een grote meteoriet die in 1969 op de aarde neerplofte nabij Murchison in de staat Victoria in Australië. Het is een van de meest bestudeerde meteorieten vanwege zijn massa en omdat deze tot een groep meteorieten behoort die rijk is aan organische verbindingen. De Murchison-meteoriet – die ouder is dan de zon – blijkt namelijk organische moleculen, en dus bouwstenen van leven te bevatten. Hierdoor geeft de steen een goed beeld van hoe het zonnestelsel er in het begin uitzag.

Waar de Hamburg-meteoriet ooit het levenslicht zag? “We kwamen erachter dat de Hamburg-meteoriet ongeveer 12 miljoen jaar geleden uit zijn moederlichaam werd geworpen voordat hij in 2018 op het bevroren Strawberry Lake neerkletterde,” zegt Heck. “De meteoriet vond waarschijnlijk zijn oorsprong in de planetoïdengordel die zich ruwweg tussen de planeten Mars en Jupiter bevindt. We ontdekten dat de laatste belangrijke thermische gebeurtenis op het moederlichaam van de Hamburg-meteoriet ongeveer 3 miljard jaar geleden plaatsvond.”

Volgens de onderzoekers heeft de studie meerdere implicaties. “Het laat zien dat elke meteoriet die neerstort moet worden bestudeerd, want je weet maar nooit wat je gaat vinden,” zegt Heck. Bovendien hebben we nu een goed beeld van de zeldzame Hamburg-meteoriet, wat een belangrijk puzzelstukje toevoegt aan ons begrip over het zonnestelsel. “Het zal heel interessant zijn om deze in de toekomst te vergelijken met andere meteorieten die in vergelijkbaar detail zullen worden bestudeerd,” besluit Heck.

The Milky Way's quiet, introverted monster won't spin

Many black holes spin much faster than this.

There's a beast hiding at the center of the Milky Way, and it's barely moving.

This supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A* (SgrA*), has a mass 4.15 million times that of our sun. It first revealed itself to scientists as a mysterious source of radio waves from the galaxy's center back in 1931; but it wasn't until 2002 that researchers confirmed the radio waves were coming from something massive and compact like a black hole —— a feat that earned them the 2020 Nobel Prize in physics. Just days before the team learned about their Nobel on Oct. 6, another group learned something new about the black hole: It's spinning more slowly than a supermassive black hole should, moving less than (possibly far less than) 10% of the speed of light.

Black holes, despite their awesome power, are extraordinarily simple objects. All the distinguishing features of the matter that forms and feeds them gets lost in their infinitesimal singularities. So every black hole in the galaxy can be described with just three numbers: mass, spin and charge.

Once researchers locate a black hole in space, measuring the mass is pretty straightforward —— just check how strongly its mass is tugging on nearby objects. To get the mass of SgrA*, scientists just observed its influence on the "S-stars," a collection of the Milky Way's innermost stars that get accelerated to incredible speeds as they whip around the black hole in tight orbits. And researchers assume that, like most large objects in space, black holes don't have strong electromagnetic charges.

(Planet Earth, for example, has some positively charged particles and some negatively charged particles, but they cancel each other out across the whole planet. The other planets and known stars work the same way. Researchers assume black holes are similarly neutral in charge.)

That leaves spin as the remaining measurable feature of SgrA*, and now researchers think they have evidence that the supermassive is an unusually slow spinner.

Spin matters for two main reasons.

First, as Live Science previously reported, a black hole's event horizon —— the shadowy region within which not even light can escape the monster's gravity —— grows as it gains more mass, reaching further and further from the singularity of the black hole. But as the black hole spins faster and faster, the event horizon shrinks. Very fast-spinning black holes should have smaller event horizons than slower-moving black holes of the same mass.

Second, spin is thought to play a role in the two white-hot jets of matter that sometimes launch into space at incredible speeds from a black hole's axis of rotation. Most Milky Way-sized galaxies have supermassive black holes at their center, and often these galaxies have enormous jets visible bursting from their cores.

But the Milky Way has no visible jets. That on its own implies that SgrA* probably isn't spinning very fast. Researchers think that a fast-spinning black hole stirs up the disk of accreting matter whirling just outside its event horizon, accelerating some of that matter to burst out as a jet. What scientists know about the quiet SgrA* already suggests it either has a small accretion disk, is barely spinning, or both.

In a new paper, a team of researchers attempted to measure SgrA*'s spin. Once again, they relied on the visible S-stars to learn what their big dark companion is doing.

Right now, the researchers found, the S-stars circle SgrA* on two orbital planes. If you were to draw their orbits around the black hole and view the system from the side, they'd form an X. SgrA* must be spinning at a rate less than 10% of the speed of light, they found, because any faster movement would have knocked the S-stars out of their X-shaped orbital planes by now. 

That's because those orbits, the researchers wrote, are likely as old as the S-stars themselves. The stars still follow the orbits they were born with. If SgrA* were spinning very fast, that wouldn't be the case.

When heavy objects spin very fast in space, that spin influences anything in orbit around them. Over time, that massive object tugs on the orbits of those smaller objects, making them line up more and more with the rotating object's own direction of spin. The slower the spin is, the weaker the effect, and the longer it takes for those objects to line up in orbit around their hefty chief.

The stars are old enough that the spin should have noticeably tugged on them if it were very strong. With their orbits as pristine as the day they were born, the S-stars strongly suggest an upper speed limit for SgrA* at just one-tenth the speed of light. And it may be spinning much slower.

This result also would explain why SgrA* doesn't seem to have any visible jets, they wrote. A first close-up image of SgrA*'s shadow, expected to come in the near future from another research team, should help confirm this, they wrote.

NASA asteroid probe stows space-rock sample for return to Earth

NASA has released a photo of the “Greater Pumpkin” galaxies and it is the perfect timing in regards to Halloween. The two galaxies, named NGC 2292 and NGC 2293, are located approximately 120 million light-years away from us in the constellation Canis Major and are beginning to collide.

The picture that was captured by the Hubble Space Telescope looks like a gigantic pumpkin with glowing eyes and a crooked smile. The “eyes” are actually a bunch of stars that are surrounding two supermassive black holes, while the faint blue-colored “smile” is a cluster of newborn stars. The “pumpkin’s” orangish color is a result of red stars.

In a statement, NASA further described the picture, “Hubble’s holiday offering is a pair of colliding galaxies that resemble the cartoon Peanuts character Linus’ imagining of the elusive Great Pumpkin,” adding, “’Great’ is an understatement in this case because the galaxy pair spans 100,000 light-years.”

Interestingly, when the two galaxies finish merging, they could form a gigantic spiral galaxy. In fact, while the “smile” is made up of a cluster of newly formed stars, it is actually the beginning of the formation of a spiral galaxy. The “smile” stretches from one galaxy to the next and was probably created from compressed interstellar gas when the collision began.

William Keel, who is an astronomer from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, has speculated that when the two merge together, it could turn out to be quite similar to the spiral galaxy known as UGC 2885 (or Rubin’s Galaxy) which is absolutely massive as it is two and a half times wider than the Milky Way and has ten times the amount of stars. It is located about 232 million light-years away from us in the constellation Perseus.

This photo comes a year after NASA posted an image to their Facebook page of our sun also looking like a giant pumpkin. In their description, they stated that the photo was taken by an ultraviolet light on their Solar Dynamics Observatory satellite back in October of 2014. The “jack-o-lantern face” was caused by increased activity of sun spots. That picture can be seen on NASA’s Facebook page as well as on their website.

3) Men denkt dat Nibiru ongeveer vier keer groter is dan de aarde en 23 keer meer massief is.

4) Volgens de oude teksten is Nibiru gehuld in een wolk van rood ijzeroxide stof.

Volgens Zetatalk zweeft deze rode wolk als een gigantische staart achter de planeet aan en zal in de aanloop van de passage zich onder andere voor doen als extreem rode/oranje luchten vooral tijdens zonsopgang en ondergang.

In een later stadium, kort voor de werkelijke passage zal deze ijzeroxide in onze atmosfeer ervoor zorgen dat ook het water in de rivieren rood wordt en zwaar vergiftigd.

Onlangs zijn er echter berichten verschenen die aantonen dat dit verschijnsel zich niet alleen op aarde voordoet, maar bijvoorbeeld ook op onze Maan. En aangezien ze daar, in ieder geval aan de kant van de maan die wij hier op aarde zien, nog geen zware industrieën hebben en geen Sahara moet dit verschijnsel door iets anders worden veroorzaakt.

En dus proberen wetenschappers te verklaren hoe het kan dat de maan aan het roesten is. De enige verklaring waarmee ze dan komen is dat dit betekent dat er misschien wel water op de maan moet zijn.

Maar voor roestvorming is nog wat meer nodig dan alleen water:

Oxygenation betekent dat er ergens zuurstof moet zijn toegevoegd, maar hoe en waar dit dan heeft plaatsgevonden wordt ons niet duidelijk. Duidelijk is wel dat dit dan buiten de aarde moet zijn gebeurd.

Ze heeft natuurlijk wel een punt dat roest zich niet op de maan kan vormen en dat is ook iets waar wetenschappers stom verbaasd over zijn. De verklaring van Nancy is uiteraard dat die rode stof daar ook afkomstig is van de staart van Nibiru.

I found a woman figure standing at the end of a hill on Mars in a NASA gigapan photo today. Now I say woman, because her breast area is covered up and she has a pregnant belly stick out and a long flowing dress down to her feet. However, he stomach may be the norm for the species and may not be pregnant. The statue would be a historical and monumental discovery had it been found in Egypt today, but because its on Mars...archeologists dismiss it, refusing to believe their own eyes. This is 100% proof that important women ruled in the alien culture on Mars. That women had prominent positions and were highly valued.

Not only is this 100% alien...this is one of the closest UFOs you may ever encounter first hand one day.

The eyewitnesses must have been incredibly close or have a really great zoom on their phone. This shows us the glowing spheres close up. You can clearly see its not planets at all. The objects are flying in triangle formation...military formation. Some of them are even dark but still flying along their sides...which means its not lanterns, when lanterns are dark its because the candles die out after 1-3 minutes and they fall. No sound, no wings, no aircraft lights...there is only one thing these objects could be...UFOs. And seen in the hotbed of hotbeds for UFO sighting...Arizona.

UFO sighting after earthquake in Whittier, California

Here’s one really interesting UFO sighting that was filmed in the night sky above Whittier, a city in Southern California in Los Angeles County, part of the Gateway Cities. This happened back July 5th, 2019 but it was just published on MUFON’s website today. This triangle formation appeared in the sky just after a huge earthquake.

Witness report: 

Six lights observed ascending from earth in triangular pattern, moving in synchronization with one another, and disappearing into the dark atmosphere. About an hour to an hour and a half prior to the UFO sighting, in Whittier, CA., there was a short but strong Earthquake. The earthquake was like nothing I’ve felt before; much like a swinging motion or swaying of the earth, that only lasted for a few seconds, but was strong enough to cause the power lines above my friends house, to rock quite a bit. When it came time for me to depart from my friends house, it was around 9:25pm. I was headed to another one of my friends houses, which was only about a 6 or 7 minute car drive. As I entered the neighborhood, of my destination, I noticed some strange bright lights moving at a very steady pace, in a triangular pattern ascending into the sky, starting from right above the tree level of my current field of vision, and kept ascending until each individual light disappeared one by one, into the dark night sky above. There were six bright yellowish-orange, sphere-shaped lights all together. One light in the front, Two in the middle and three behind. By the way that it seemed to be moving, it was as if they were all attached by something solid. They never got any closer or further away from each other as they moved along the night sky.

Where Does the Moon Come From?

For the first time ever, electric blue sprites and elves have been detected twirling in the upper atmosphere of Jupiter by NASA’s Juno mission.

They’ve only been seen on Earth and possibly on the Moon, but not on any other planets … until now. Human footprints? American flags? Aliens?

“11 transient bright flashes were detected in Jupiter’s atmosphere using the UVS instrument on the Juno spacecraft. These bright flashes are only observed in a single spin of the spacecraft and their brightness decays exponentially with time, with a duration of ∼1.4 ms.”

As described in a new study published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Planets, astronomers working on the Juno project – NASA’s tiny spacecraft that’s been orbiting Jupiter since 2016 – were looking at new data collected by its ultraviolet spectrograph instrument (UVS) when they spotted never-before-seen flashing lights. They had expected to see auroras but not flashes, according to the press release. They could be ‘sprites’ – tall, sinewy transient luminous events (TLEs) that occur in Earth’s upper atmosphere and are triggered by lightning discharges from thunderstorms below them – or ‘elves’, which are flat Emission of Light and Very Low Frequency due to Electromagnetic Pulse Sources, or sprite halos, which are flat sprites caused by weak ionization. Sprites, elves and sprite halos are generally red due to interaction with nitrogen, but the lights on Jupiter are blue or pink from the hydrogen in the gas giant’s upper atmosphere.

Wait a minute, you say … the Moon has flashes too, but doesn’t have much of an atmosphere and no thunderstorms.

Good observation. The flashes on the Moon are referred to as Transient Lunar Phenomena which, although they’ve been reported for a thousand years, are irreproducible on Earth and doubted by many scientists. They could be caused by gas escaping from underground cavities, meteor showers, electrostatic discharge from the surface cracking or just reflections or distortions in observation lenses.

While sprites and elves were predicted to be found on Jupiter, Juno had found nothing but lighting until recently. This cause was ruled out for these new lights because they occurred 186 miles (300 km) above the altitude where most of the planet’s lightning forms, and because the colors were different.

Is this big news? Rohini Giles, Juno scientist and lead author, thinks so.

“Now that we know what we are looking for, it will be easier to find them at Jupiter and on other planets. And comparing sprites and elves from Jupiter with those here on Earth will help us better understand electrical activity in planetary atmospheres.”

That’s a good idea for the time when space probes travel at much lower altitudes and could be fried by electrical discharges.

Who would have thought a giant planet could have sprites and elves? This will make for some interesting sci-fi fairy tales.

A gigantic asteroid named Apophis (it’s also been nicknamed the “God of Chaos”) is picking up speed and may end up hitting us in the year 2068. If it does hit, since the asteroid measures more than 1,000 feet in width, the results would be catastrophic as the impact would be equivalent to 880 million tons of TNT.

Asteroid Apophis is composed of rocky materials with a mix of metallic nickel and iron. The fact that it is gaining speed increases the possibility of it hitting the Earth on April 12, 2068. They call this burst of speed the Yarkovsky effect, which is when sunlight heats up the dayside of a rotating asteroid and as it turns, the night side releases the heat which gives it a push through space.

When it was first discovered back in June of 2004 by astronomers Roy Tucker, David Tholen and Fabrizio Bernardi at the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Tucson, Arizona, experts claimed that there was no chance of it hitting us. Ever since its discovery, the asteroid has been studied as it orbits our sun (it completes a full orbit in less than one Earth year) and the new findings do suggest that there is a chance of it hitting us in 48 years.

David Tholen, who is one of the astronomers who first detected the asteroid, explained, “The new observations we obtained with the Subaru telescope earlier this year were good enough to reveal the Yarkovsky acceleration of Apophis, and they show that the asteroid is drifting away from a purely gravitational orbit by about 170 meters per year, which is enough to keep the 2068 impact scenario in play.”

In fact, it has been ranked the third-highest threat on NASA’s Sentry Risk Table, behind asteroid (29075) 1950 DA, and asteroid Bennu. According to the table, Apophis has a 1 in 150,000 chance of hitting us. The first two won’t hit for a long time as asteroid (29075) 1950 DA has a 1 in 8,300 chance of hitting Earth in the year 2880, while Bennu has a 1 in 2,700 probability of impacting us sometime between the years 2175 and 2199.

There is a lot more research that needs to be done in regards to Apophis’ orbit to know for sure whether or not it will hit us. Experts have changed their minds on whether or not it will impact us. Back when it was first discovered, they said that an impact was impossible, then there was a 2.7% chance, and now it will pass by us at a distance of just under 20,000 miles from our planet. What is known for sure is that this is the first time that scientists have been able to see and study in advance an asteroid of this gigantic size that may come very close to hitting us.

Researchers have stated that they will “know well before 2068 if there is any chance of an impact”. Let’s hope they’re right. Pictures of the asteroid Apophis can be seen here.

Glowing Object Over Guatemala On Oct 27, 2020, UFO Sighting News.

This seems strange, however its explainable. The shine of the craft is because its a white reflective material which makes the object impossible to record it in its true detail. I have found many alien structures on earths moon made of such material and this is how they appear to the NASA cameras too. 

 

Guatemala is near the ocean, which has had a lot of UFO reports over the last decade...but most coming from Cuba and Costa Rica. I believe the UFOs come from underground bases under volcanos in that region.

White Orbs Seen In Sky Over London, England Oct 26, 2020, UFO Sighting News.

I have reported similar UFOs this week. Those are cloud orbs. They are dropped off by a mother orb..which is not much bigger, but produces over 100 other similar size orbs. At least thats what I get from past UFO video reports about a decade ago in Japan. Here its London, but I reported the same white orbs over Mexico, Hawaii, Colorado, California and Japan...all this week. So...you see...I have seen these orbs a lot in the last 15 years. And only seen a mother orb three times on video during that time. Rare...but the orbs you see in this video come from a mother orb releasing them one by one in this vicinity.

Studying the End of the World: The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Throughout the history of civilization, the concept of the apocalypse has been ever present, in one way or another. The envisioned revelation, the feared end of the world that will herald an age of purification through horrific and chaotic means, has been a part of every major religion and belief throughout the centuries. But one of the most interesting prophecies relates to the famous Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, which are described in the Bible’s Book of Revelation.

“…and behold, a black horse…”

Today we’re bringing you this concept in detail. Together we will envision this end of the world, this crumbling of civilizations at the hands of War, Famine, Pestilence, and Disease, and dissect this prophecy and its various interpretations throughout history.

Could there be a speck of truth in this vision? Did the Four Horsemen already thunder across the fields of the earth? Let’s find out.

When Seven Trumpets Shall Sound! The Origins of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

In the New Testament – the second part of the Bible – and in its last book, which is called the Book of Revelation, written by John the Theologian of Patmos, there is a chapter which relates to us the story of a doomsday revelation, of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse which descend on the earth to decimate the population.

The most straightforward and widely agreed interpretation of this chapter is the description of a period in history when a large part of earth’s population would perish through a combination of wars, diseases, and hunger. In the Bible, these hardships are described as horsemen, riding in succession at the behest of Jesus, in the form of the Lamb of God. This title comes from the Bible, John 1:29, when John the Baptist exclaims: “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.”

The chapter begins by describing a divine scroll, held by God in his right hand, and sealed with seven seals. Their opening, and the subsequent apocalypse, would usher the second coming of Jesus.

Each one of these seven seals represent a different aspect of the apocalypse: the first four relate to the horsemen, the fifth releases the martyr’s cries for the God’s wrath , the sixth ushers a series of cataclysmic natural disasters, while the seventh calls forth the seven angelic trumpeters, who carry seven vials of plagues and divine wrath, which they pour out on the sinful and the wicked. The Lamb of God, being worthy to open the first four seals, does so, and summons forth, one after another, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, setting in motion the ferocious cleansing of the earth.

The White Horseman of the Apocalypse

“And I saw and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.”

– Revelation, 6:2

Throughout history, various sources often explained the first rider in various different ways, since his role is the only one not explicitly stated. While most interpreters agreed that the white rider symbolizes disease and pestilence, it wasn’t always the usual claim. There is a widely attested description that places this white horseman as a metaphor for righteousness.

In a world where sin is rampant, a righteous harbinger of justice and righteousness would seem a fitting purifier in an apocalypse. The crown that was “given unto him” could signify the rule of justice above all, or symbolize a truly just leader, if such a one can exist.

But the symbolism of disease and pestilence could still be the most plausible description. The aspect of a conqueror is cognate with the sweeping of a major plague (the Great Plague is a good example) and the crown would symbolize the ultimate rule of death above all else.

But as the time progressed, and by the time of the beginning of the 16th century, many have come to interpret the white rider as the personification of the Second Coming of Christ, or even Christ himself. At the time of the major crisis and the break of Western Christianity with the reforms of Martin Luther, this came as a most logical and accepted explanation.

The white color of the horse and the rider was quickly connected with divine purity and absence of sin, and the bow he carried as the tool of divine punishment. Likewise, the white rider was interpreted as the Holy Spirit – pure and just.

Another popular view is much simpler – the white horseman could just be the personification of mass conquest. The passage, relating to the rider that “went forth conquering, and to conquer” could simply be that – a descent of a prophesied conqueror that will enslave the populace of the earth.

The Red Horseman of the Apocalypse

“And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.”

– Revelation 6:4

The Red Horseman is widely connected with war. The translations often correlate in the descriptions: the horse is “fiery” red, and the rider bears an upright sword in preparation for battle. The red color is thought to symbolize the fire and blood of warfare, and the rider’s ability to make men kill one another clearly symbolizes constant and global warfare .

War as an apocalyptic aspect was always present throughout time and is the most straightforward herald of death.

In Matthew, 24:6-7, Christ states: “And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom…” This quote clearly relates to the ever-present aspect of warfare as a symbol of the final revelation.

Another interesting quote could also be adapted to the Red Horseman and warfare as the aspect of evil and the Antichrist:

“From the eternal sea he rises,
creating armies on either shore,
 turning man against his brother,
until man exists no more.”

The red horseman could also signify the sin of hatred and aggression as a contributing factor to the prophesized end of the world. And in a paradoxical turn of events, the Lamb of God releases that same aggression to smite the wicked with fire and sword. The prophecy of constant warfare that is supposed to descend on earth is clearly described with the red rider having divine authority to take peace from the earth .

The Black Horseman of the Apocalypse

“And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.”

– Revelation 6:5-6

Another easily interpreted figure, the black horseman was almost always universally described as a personification of Famine. The horse’s black color was widely attributed to negative aspects – mourning, carrion ravens, night, desolation, and bleakness – all of which are aspects of famine as well. The rider is said to carry in his hands a pair of balances.

This is the chosen translation of the original word – the Greek zugón – which generally means a “yoke”, as in a burden and a yoke for oxen. Both description carry negative connotations. The yoke is synonymous with servitude and slavery, and the pair of scales signifies the rationing and measuring of food. This was the common ancient practice of ascribing value to things.

The third horseman, the Black Rider, of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The passage states that a single penny (orig. denarius) would be sufficient to acquire only a meager ration of wheat, and even less of barley. This is clearly an ancient view of what a famine would look like, since wheat was a staple of the diet and without it bread was lost.

The final part of the passage states that while the prices of wheat and barley are affected, the ones of oil and wine are not to be changed. This was interpreted in several different ways, and could signify a paradoxical aspect, in which the staple foods are gone, while wine remains – furthering the famine while leaving the luxuries which cannot feed a man.

One popular interpretation states that the black horseman signifies the Imperial, ruling oppression of the lower class. The rich rulers hold the scales and dispense what meager rations they deem sufficient, while the luxuries remain abundant and out of reach for the poor. A growing divide between classes and fellow men could be a perfect aspect of an end time revelation.

The Pale Horseman of the Apocalypse

“And I looked and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.”

- Revelation 6:8

The final, fourth horseman serves as a sort of epilogue, a dramatic crescendo that culminates with the most powerful and feared rider – Death itself. In the entire chapter, he is the only rider who was named, and the only one without a weapon – for he himself is a weapon. The rider and the horse are depicted as pallid, bearing the sickly and lifeless color of a corpse, and the ability to extinguish all manner of earthly life through various natural means.

The pale rider contains elements of all preceding ones and could be termed the most significant of the four. In his wake follows hell, the final culmination of all things horrific, seemingly ready to swallow all the wicked that will perish in the apocalypse.

The part that states that power was given unto them over the fourth of the earth could be interpreted in various ways. While it could be that all four riders would wreak havoc over a quarter of the planet, it could also signify that each of the four would have a single quarter of the earth.

The passage states that the rider would kill with the beasts of the earth . This could be a hint to the animals and the nature that promptly retake the regions which are depopulated, signifying the ultimate reign of wild nature over the man.

Death Rides a Pale Horse – Apocalypse in Art

The prophecy of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse has long been the subject of inspiration for many artists, who chose that influential and critical subject as the source for monumental artworks. Throughout time, many artists portrayed the horsemen in the way they interpreted them, which also provides good insight into the prophecy.

One of the more popular depictions was made in 1887, by the renowned Russian painter Viktor Vasnetsov. His large painting, “Воины Апокалипсиса” , is a colorful and detailed, contemporary depiction of Death, War, Conquest, and Famine. They are given modern attributes and were intended to reflect on the populace of the time.

Some of the earlier, medieval depictions are much more dramatic and almost unsettling, certainly aimed at putting fear into the more doubtful believers. One such depiction was made between 1496 and 1498, by Albrecht Dürer, the renowned artist of the German Renaissance. His dramatic woodcut represents the four horsemen as elderly, ghastly, and emaciated men, whose equally unsettling stallions are trampling the sinful and gluttonous people below.

A similar woodcut was made between 1851 and 1860, by Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld, a German painter, who portrayed a savage and merciless massacre of sinners by the four riders, all under the watchful eyes of the Lamb of God.

Until Man Exists No More

To date, the story of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse remains as a stark vision of the paradoxical, inherent nature of man. From its earliest forms it served as a warning for the wicked to change their ways, a plea for temperance and peace, for moderation and humility.

Yet we see that in the 21st century, much that was described in the Book of Revelation has come to pass. From countless famines, to plagues and pestilences, to endless wars and decadence – the apocalypse seems to have occurred several times over. Or is it yet to come?

Europe's Philae comet lander made a 2nd touchdown in a spooky spot: 'Skull-Top Ridge'

Philae couldn't snag enough sunlight in its final location to recharge its secondary battery, so the lander collected science data for only a few days. Still, the lander's varied observations have helped scientists better understand 67P and comets in general. 

The Rosetta team quickly spotted Philae's first touchdown site in imagery captured by the Rosetta orbiter mothership, which began circling Comet 67P in August 2014. Philae itself was found in September 2016 after an extensive imagery search, but the location of the second touchdown site had remained elusive.

"Philae had left us with one final mystery waiting to be solved," ESA's Laurence O'Rourke, who led the successful hunt for Philae, said in a statement. "It was important to find the touchdown site, because sensors on Philae indicated that it had dug into the surface, most likely exposing the primitive ice hidden underneath, which would give us invaluable access to billions-of-years-old ice."

Touchdown at 'Skull-Top Ridge'

That mystery has now been solved, a new study reports. After analyzing reams of data gathered by the Rosetta orbiter and Philae — especially readings from the lander's magnetometer, which sits at the end of a 19-inch (48 centimeters) boom and registered every impact — a team led by O'Rourke has found the second touchdown site. 

The spot lies just 100 feet (30 meters) from Philae's final resting place, the researchers report in the new study, which was published online today (Oct. 28) in the journal Nature. O'Rourke and his colleagues determined that Philae spent nearly two minutes at the second touchdown site, hitting the surface at least four different times in the process. 

"The shape of the boulders impacted by Philae reminded me of a skull when viewed from above, so I decided to nickname the region 'skull-top ridge' and to continue that theme for other features observed," O'Rourke said. "The right 'eye' of the 'skull face' was made by Philae's top surface compressing the dust while the gap between the boulders is 'skull-top crevice,' where Philae acted like a windmill to pass between them."

These impacts unearthed bright material that the researchers determined to be water ice. The freshly excavated stuff looked quite different than the rest of Comet 67P's surface, which has been weathered by the harsh space environment, team members said.  

And one of the impacts gouged a 10-inch-deep (25 centimeters) dent into a Comet 67P ice boulder — a scar that betrays a very soft body. Indeed, the researchers calculated that 67P's ice-dust interior is "fluffier than froth on a cappuccino, or the foam found in a bubble bath or on top of waves at the seashore," O'Rourke said.

The study team further calculated a porosity of 75% for that wounded boulder, meaning that it's three-quarters empty space. That figure is consistent with the porosity value for Comet 67P in its entirety, which mission team members determined in a previous study.  

Neither Philae nor the Rosetta orbiter is still operational. The lander gave up the ghost early on, and mission team members guided its mothership (by then low on fuel) to a soft, controlled crash on Comet 67P's surface in September 2016. But the new results show that the historic mission, which launched all the way back in March 2004, continues to bear scientific fruit.

"This is a fantastic multi-instrument result that not only fills in the gaps in the story of Philae’s bouncy journey but also informs us about the nature of the comet," Matt Taylor, ESA's Rosetta project scientist, said in the same statement, referring to the new study.

"In particular, understanding the strength of a comet is critical for future lander missions," added Taylor, who was not involved in the newly published research. "That the comet has such a fluffy interior is really valuable information in terms of how to design the landing mechanisms, and also for the mechanical processes that might be needed to retrieve samples."

But designers of comet-sampling missions may be in for a real challenge, planetary scientist Erik Asphaug noted in a "News and Views" piece about the Philae results that was also published today in Nature.

Asphaug pointed out that Philae's planned touchdown site — the locale that hosted its first bounce — was a flat plain. Such regions, while (theoretically) easier to land on, are often covered by many meters of "lag" deposits, dust particles too hefty to be carried off by water vapor and other volatile gases that are boiled off when comets pass close to the sun, Asphaug wrote. 

The plains therefore aren't likely to harbor easily accessible pristine material left over from the solar system's earliest days. Rather, Asphaug wrote, the new results "suggest that the best places to sample comets will not be the flat plains, but along the newly exposed ridges, cliffs and boulder piles, which are more difficult to land on."

Modern graffiti leads scientists to 27,000-year-old cave art in Spain

The Gravettian art culture famous for stone age Venus statues was more widespread than previously thought.

Spanish researchers reported today the discovery of rock art in a cave system in the Basque Country, in northern Spain. The 27,000-year-old art, which includes engravings of bison and horses, is characteristic of a cultural style common across Europe but which was never before seen in the Iberian Peninsula until now.

A clash of two cultures

“Western Europe has the biggest density of Palaeolithic cave art in the world, including the famous Altamira and Lascaux caves. It is especially concentrated in Northern Spain and Southwest France. Despite this, there was a void in what nowadays is the Basque Country. A decade ago, we started several survey projects in order to understand this absence. Consequently, we found more than 20 new [samples of] cave art — that is four times more than we knew before, including the four caves of Aitzbitarte hill,” Diego Garate of the Instituto Internacional de Investigaciones Prehistóricas de Cantabria in Spain told ZME Science.

Garate first performed surveys in the Aitzbitarte cave complex in Basque Country in 2015. Deep inside cave number five, the researchers found that the walls were covered in recent graffiti. Remarkably, next to them were also ancient cave paintings engraved thousands of years ago.

“Suddenly, under an ‘exit’ and an arrow written on the wall, a so some fine tracings that were not so recent. After some minutes I was able to see a bison drawing. This is how we started watching all the walls looking for other engravings,” Garate said.

“Some of them are in dangerous places, even after descending vertical slopes of 15 meters. Paleolithic people were very habituated to the underground landscape. This difficult access to the decorated areas was a real challenge when documenting and studying the artworks,” he added.

Scientists had been exploring the Aitzbitarte caves since the end of the 20th century. So far, they’ve recovered thousands of stone tools and butchered bones, suggesting the caves sheltered hunter-gatherers continuously over the span of ten thousand years.

When compared to other cultures, the Aitzbitarte cave art bears a striking resemblance to the style of the Gravettian cultural complex. An Upper Palaeolithic (Late Old Stone Age) culture, the Gravettian culture succeeded the Aurignacian to dominate much of Europe from around 29,000 BC.

The Gravettian people are famous for the many Venus figurines they created, which are widely distributed across Europe and into Siberia. Another famous prehistoric discovery of this period is represented by hand stencils in Cosquer Cave close to Marseilles, in the south of France.

Back at Aitzbitarte, Spanish researchers described Paleolithic animal engravings drawn in a Gravettian style in which the horns and legs lack proper perspective, and pairs of limbs are consistently depicted as “double Y” figures.

“We have compared these figures with others found in Europe using multivariate statistics and have concluded that their distribution coincides with the dispersion of the most frequent tools in the region about 27,000 years ago. The diffusion of this style largely agrees with finds of Noailles burins and Isturitz points, tools that appeared in the Western Pyrenees between 31,000 and 29,000 years ago and later spread towards southern France and finally reached the Mediterranean, where the most recent figures in this style are found,” Garate told ZME Science.

“These peculiarities differentiate them from other cave art in northern Spain. To give an example, while in Aitzbitarte they were engraving bison with these specific conventions, in the rest of the Cantabrian region they were painting red deer by applying the pigment with their finger-tips, however, certain details are common to different styles, such as the way of representing horses and the absence of perspective in both front and back legs. Therefore, despite the existence of particularities in each region, long-distance cultural exchange networks also existed,” the researcher added.

In the future, Garate plans on exploring other caves in the region. He is sure more forgotten cave art is waiting to be found.

“These are the first remains of human artistic ability and some of them have been named World Heritage by UNESCO. Without a doubt, knowing them helps us understand who we are,” he said.

Sedona – On October 20, 2 20, my Oculus all sky camera was running all night in hopes of capturing an Orionid Meteor. In the morning as I reviewed my video I noticed this string of 5-6 lights that appeared than vanished. I slowed down this video to 1/8 normal speed and booster contrast a bit and brightened the video and a still from it I made.

Arkansas Lights

Huntsville — On October19,2020,

This video was taken from a game camera on our family hunting   property. Notice the quick change of direction at the very end of the video. The deer in the video moves it’s head upward causing the video to start. I’m presuming the “UFO” did not make noise because the deer did not look up as it flew over.

California Object

 I will not divulge my identity nor my exact location. However, I will let you know this happened in Southern California. On January 20, 2020

I fell asleep while watching TV. I awoke at about 2 AM to the sound of someone talking on TV. It wasn’t very loud and I thought that I should turn off the TV. Then, I noticed something moving out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look and saw a black mass hovering over our table in the kitchen area. It was completely silent. Panic set in. I was petrified at what I saw. I could not breathe nor move; I was frozen in fear. I tried to get out a scream, but couldn’t. I tried and tried then eventually I found myself screaming over and over again. My wife, who was asleep in the other room, ran into the living room. While she was entering the room, I saw the black mass in our kitchen shrink and then disappear completely. Unfortunately, my wife had just missed it.

Michigan Light as

Brighton — I was looking up at the sky since there are animal traps on my roof to catch the flying squirrels in my attic. The moment I looked up to view the trap, I saw come over my house a completely white object with 2 shapes to it on October16, 2020. O ne end was rectangular, and one end was rounded. The sky was blue with no clouds. This object sped up a little, then slowed down, the sped up a little, then slowed down and then stopped. It then disappeared. The total time span was about 15 seconds. There was absolutely no sound.

New Jersey Object

North Wildwood – On September 30, 2020 my boyfriend were taking a few pictures of the moon over the ocean from our porch. Like we do on many occasions. But we never had the anomalies that we had on this particular night. We are not sure what they are but feel it is worth a look. I am providing the unedited photos and the photos with anomaly circled.

Air National Guard Base – My mother & I went to visit my Mothers Brother, Jack at the Air National Guard Base in New Jersey at night on a weekend in the summer of 1962 or 63, I think! After going outside, we observed a glowing white Orb moving slowly toward the Base & went behind the tower. We waited to see it come out the other side but it didn’t come out of the other side but suddenly, it shot straight up at astonishing speed into the sky, out of sight! I was about 12 or 13 years old at the time but we never reported the sighting because we thought it might be something connected to the Base & who would believe us anyway! Oregon Lights

Newberg – On October14, 2020, 6:09 am Newberg Oregon. I took my 2 dogs out to pee. I noticed the stars out; it was still dark outside, cold and clear with some light thin clouds in the sky. I noticed some star constellations, they were very bright. Orisons Belt, then I looked left and saw one of the dippers. Then looked toward the west and saw over 30 stars in a row. A straight line and the line were moving. An example is an open strand of pearls and if you were pulling them in a straight line. They were moving toward 30degrees. There was a cloud I could not see through, a thin cloud. I was not able to see them once they moved behind the cloud. I told my husband in a frantic tone “there are UFO’s in the sky” I ran downstairs to film. I tried videoing the lights, 3-5 times, but it was so dark and they were not showing up. Maybe with good photo editing, they can be seen. Anyway, my husband ran outside and watched as the last 20-30 were heading into the cloud bank. What was really strange (it was all strange) the last light was not at the same distance as all the other lights before it in line. It was “falling behind”. Then it got light out within a few minutes and it was over.

Tennessee Flame

Nolensville – On October18, 2020, me and my family observed a glowing gold object with a flame line top. It looked a bit like the comet hale bop but it was more defined and pencil like in shape. It was glowing/blazing very bright. At first I thought it might be a comet but I couldn’t find anything online about that. We tried to take pictures of it and the cameras on our phones behaved strangely and we couldn’t get a good shot. While we were trying to fix the problem it disappeared right in front of us. It briefly reappeared for a minute a few minutes later and disappeared again. There were some clouds but the object appeared to be in front of the clouds illuminating them. Earlier we had gone for a drive and had a strange experience where it took us an hour and a half to get to Shelbyville from our home and only 45 minutes to get back. We remarked on how time felt strange and how it seemed like it took so much longer to get there. We did not stop either way as it was just a drive. It didn’t make sense for it to be so vastly different as the route was basically the same. My husband made a comet t that perhaps it was aliens. We returned home at 5:00 pm and saw this strange object at 8:00 PM. I did get some crappy photos of it when it appeared again the 2nd time but the color on the photoA does not match what we saw. It was a Brilliant gold color- with an orange cast- very vibrant. The photos makes it appear white and it was not that color.

This was also seen on one of the nights by three other people that were with me. Co roach — On October1, 2020,

A coworker had stopped to take a picture of the drilling rig he was working on, South of Coronach, Sask. at the Westmoreland Coal mine. After he took the picture, he looked at it to check the quality. He noticed the object in the upper right and a second to the left of the derrick. He had shown me the picture in September, after we had a conversation about the possibility of extra terrestrial life. I asked if anyone else saw the picture or the objects, and he told me “No”. I then asked if he had reported it. He told me he didn’t say anything for fear of being ridiculed. He told me that he didn’t see or hear anything in the sky before or after he had taken the picture. I asked if there were any planes or vapor trails in the sky and he said “No”.

Vannes — I go out on my terrace and raise my head to heaven, I believe hallucinated and immediately call my wife after different. Research, I concluded   the first day everything was in a single file for about fifty objects, but the day after tomorrow rebel but this time objects have random speeds and changing directions on April 25, 2020.

Germany Lights

Idsten — On Saturday evening (approx. 0750 AM) October17, 2020,

I spotted a glowing object flying above our hometown valley from my balcony. I immediately called my wife and daughter to come and see it. We observed the object flying in circles above the valley.
My wife went in to get our spyglasses. Through the spyglass we could very clearly see that the glow came from an object above the clouds. I tried to film the object with my mobile but it was impossible. We informed my mother who lives just a few streets away to see it as well. She came and saw it.
My wife then got our night vision equipment, a spyglass with night vision used for deer stalking. Through this device we could see that there were actually two objects flying in circles. I then placed my mobile phone camera in front of the ocular of the night vision equipment and was actually able to film it. I sent the videos to our elder daughter who lives in Wiesbaden and she told us that she saw three lights hovering over Wiesbaden on her way home from work. She even talked to people in the streets about It.; hence, there must be more witnesses.

UK/England Flashing Light

 Bellevue, Washington (Over Cougar Mountain): September 20, 2020I saw the same thing as posted on your site Sept 11, 2017 over Bellevue/Cougar Mountain on Sep 20 this year. Has this sighting been solved or identified? I have a few photos. See one of them above.

Additional Details Provided by Witness: 

I saw it in person. It made no sound and was moving east. I was standing at around 1,400 feet when I took photos. In photo with tree, lower left is corner of one story house/roof. My wife and I both saw and each took photos. The photos were from mobile phone cameras. I am guessing that the object was 15 feet long. The four “wheel” looking appendages did not pivot or change angle. It remained upright, that is with four “wheels” oriented as they are in photo. The interior of the “wheels” looked silver. It did not produce its own light and just seemed to reflect sunlight. There was no exhaust or discharge of any kind. The “Body” looked mostly red. I am guessing it was traveling at 30 MPH. It did not turn or change direction. There was very slight wind at time. (Clearly it was moving under its own power.) I saw no tow plane or anything else in the sky. The path was over a very densely populated area and just south of I-90 (though would have been visible looking up from that interstate). My first thought was that it was a massive drone or a flying cartoon car (LOL). I still have no idea. I asked friends who work at Amazon in Seattle for any Intel on beta tests for drones or the like, but came up empty.

Driver caught a UFO over Columbus, Ohio TODAY!

This strange unidentified flying object was filmed over Columbus, OH today (29th October 2020). What do you think it is?

Witness report: 

My daughter was moving from franklin County Columbus to Fairfield County Lancaster.As we were traveling 3 very bright large lights caught my eye off on the left side (driver) . The one on the bottom went out and when it re appeared it was on my right side (passenger side. I kept watching for a few minutes because it was just sitting in the sky that’s when I told my daughter to record.the lights. As you can see by the camera and our voices we didn’t know what we were looking at. It traveled from way far in front of us to directly over us in a matter of seconds we couldn’t get the entire bottom of the object because we were in traffic and it passed right over us.we were looking directly under it all you could see were the lights the top was as if it were transparent it was dark but I could see a shape of it.

At one point it looked like a giant drone but with all the lights that was underneath you should of been able to see exactly what it was but you couldn’t. I say drone because I seen something that went straight up into the air it was so dark you really had to be looking directly at it to even see it.
The only shots we got of this this was when it was coming in our direction and it was low in the sky as if it was going to land somewhere behind us in the fields. I wish I could of gotten a better shot of this thing but I showed it to someone who works at the airport and they said those weren’t airplane or helicopter lights. I tried to download it tom my computer to see if I could get a better look at this thing but wasn’t able to maybe someone at your agency could enhance the video to make sense of what we saw.

Bright lights in the sky above Joshua Tree, California 20-Oct-2020

This UFO sighting was published on MUFON’s website today. It shows strange bright lights that were hovering in the sky above Joshua Tree in California on 20th October 2020. Also some strange noise was recorded on video!

Witness report: 

Several hours of lights appearing, multiplying disappearing. These three all come from one 12 minute long video. We were camping in the desert and it was a dark night with a crescent moon. We had just sat down to our dinner at our picnic table, when these lights appeared out in the desert.
Media File 1. We see lights multiply, disappear. We are talking to nearby campers at Belle Campground. They said that they had never seen anything like it. This video is the last in sequence of these three.
Media File 2. Earliest appearance from the same 12 minute long video. 7:22 pm time stamp. You hear the loud buzzing noises on audio. Never heard this before or since on my phone.

We were at this spot about one year ago, under the Hunter’s Moon, and looked for lights, but saw nothing unusual.
Dr. Greer had been doing CE5 in Joshua Tree, for several nights previous to our arrival on 10-20-2020. We camped here for several more nights and saw nothing unusual.

In the hours just after dark on August 8, 1993, a 27 -year-old housewife and mother of three children by the name of Kelly Cahill was driving with her husband between Belgrave and Fountain Gate, in Victoria, Australia, in order to attend a birthday party later that evening for Kelly’s friend’s daughter. At around 7 PM, they were passing the quiet foothills of the Dandenongs mountain range, approaching the outer Melbourne suburban housing estate where the friend lived. Since it was a fairly remote and dark road there were few other cars around, although on this evening Kelly would claim that there was another vehicle down the road behind them with a man and a woman within. It was a quiet, peaceful night, and other than that there wasn’t much to see, and so Kelly sat back watching the evening float by her passenger window. Yet something would come up out of the dark that would snap her awake.

As Kelly looked out over the rural, increasingly mountainous landscape, she allegedly saw a “ring of orange lights” sitting on the ground in a nearby paddock. As she watched this mystery object wondering what it could be they passed by and she told her husband that she had just seen a UFO, but he didn’t seem to really believe her, saying it was probably just a helicopter. They sort of just put it out of their minds and went about going to the friend’s party and having a normal evening before heading back for the drive home. As they did they would both then see what appears to have been the same object Kelly had seen earlier, only this time it was hovering over the road right in front of them. Kelly would later tell UFO researcher Robb Tilley of what happened then:

Anyway, we were driving back down the road in the same stretch. Both of us,just me and my husband . . . we both saw this ring, mind you … . in front of us, hovering above the road. It was just something sitting there. . . . I couldn’t tell what it was. We were at first far away, but as you got closer to it was sort of . . . well, it wasn’t like the orange light in the field. It was a round shape with some sort of glass around, or what looked like windows and lights around the bottom. Because it was dark, you couldn’t really tell at first. But as we got closer and closer, there was no noise or anything. Even my husband’s going. “You’re right! That’s something. That’s very, very strange.” And I swear we saw people in there, and then just as I said to him, “I swear there’s people in there,” it just shot off to the left as fast as it could go. I mean it just disappeared. Within a split second it had gone.

We kept driving and about a kilometer ahead, all of a sudden, there’s this really, really bright light in front of us, and I’ve got my hand up, up above my brow, to look out the window, because it’s that bright, but I can’t see anything. I said to [my husband], “What are you going to do?” He said, “I’m going to keep driving.” From there, that is the last we remembered until . . . I knew I was going to see a UFO, you know, I just knew, because of what we had seen, I’d seen it twice in one night and he had seen it once . . . and the adrenalin is pumping, the heart is thumping, I’m so excited. All of a sudden I’m sitting in the car, and I’m saying to my husband, “What happened?” And he says to me, “I don’t know. We must have gone around a corner or something.

They both felt very strange at this point, as if they had had a blackout, but they weren’t sure quite why they felt this way but it was unshakeable. There was also apparently a “smell like vomit” permeating the vehicle, although there was no sign that either of them had thrown up. They had the very surreal sense that something was not quite right, and that something had happened to them, and as they talked about this it got even stranger still when Kelly saw a tall dark figure pass by along the side of the road that she did not think was human. It was not until they got home that they realized that they were both missing an hour of time, and Kelly noticed an odd triangular mark right above her navel and a scar above that, neither of which she had had before that night.

On top of this, they both experienced inexplicable headaches, nausea, stomach pain, and severe muscular fatigue over the coming weeks, during which time Kelly began menstruating out of cycle and fell so sick she could barely walk. Her husband would rush her to the hospital, where they were told that she had a womb infection. As all of this was going on, Kelly began to have little fragments of memory come back to her from that lost time, little flickers that floated up from her subconscious like fleeting, half-forgotten dreams. First she remembered going into an intense, blindingly bright light, then there were faint images of shadow figures moving in that light, and then one day when they were driving past the same spot she felt a sudden sense of overwhelming terror and it all came back to her. She would say of this:

On the way home from bingo that night, we went along the same road, and as we passed a certain spot I just got this incredible feeling of terror go through me, I mean absolute terror. All of a sudden I just started remembering, and by the next morning I had remembered just about everything that happened, except there’s still missing time that I can’t. What we had actually done, we had driven into the light, but the road curved, and the light we had thought was in front of us was actually to our right-hand side. It was in the field, and it was massive… the “size of a house” or perhaps close to 5O meters. So it was very big. Why I knew it was very big was because we could have driven for five minutes. The road sort of wound around this part. You could have driven for five minutes and not had it out of your sight the whole time.

She remembered that her and her husband had then stopped the car and gotten out to get a better look at the light. At this point she somehow noticed that there was another car that had stopped down the road, and that three people had stepped out of it. She turned her attention back to the otherworldly craft in front of them, and that’s when she saw a very tall, thin black figure, estimated as about 7 feet tall, and possessing luminous red eyes, which she describes as “burning red, like . . . fluorescent stop lights, I suppose, that sort of real burning red.” The entity was approaching them, and she felt overwhelmed with a cold, gripping terror. She would explain of what happened next:

All of a sudden I started screaming out [to my husbands. . . . Now this has really got me baffled because of the fact that a human being doesn’t know this, so I don’t even know how I came out with this, but I started saying, “They’ve got no souls.” And then I started screaming, “THEY’VE GOT NO SOULS!” Then all of a sudden there were heaps of them in the field, not just one, a whole heap of them, and they started coming towards us . . . faster than a man could run, and they were gliding off the ground. They got halfway across the field. They split up. Some of them went towards the other people [two or three, Kelly thought]. and some of them [the rest] came towards us. Kelly found herself screaming to the other people down the road, “They’re evil! They’re going to kill us!” I was hysterically terrified. . . . I had never felt terror like that. Not even in my worst nightmares had I experienced terror like that. The next thing I know, I felt this oomph! in my stomach, right across here like I was winded, but I was thrown right back, and I was on my back on the ground. I sat up, with my head between my knees. Here, I’m trying to stay conscious. I couldn’t see. My eyes. . . . It was all black.

She says that during this encounter she was only vaguely aware of her husband nearby, who was mostly silent, and that the creatures kept sending telepathic messages into her mind assuring her that they meant her no harm. Despite these insistent assurances, she felt with every fiber of her being that they were actually all evil somehow, and she says she suddenly felt a surge of anger overcome and usurp the uncontrollable fear that had paralyzed her. She remembers shouting at the beings to go away and cursing and threatening them, and the next thing she remembers is being back in her car, any other memories just a whirlwind of shards and pieces. In the coming weeks she would have extremely vivid dreams of being she had seen, as well as of being within their ship and speaking with them. She would say of one of these “dreamings” as she calls them as follows:

When after I did remember it, I had another dream, and these dreams seemed very physical. I know I’m dreaming, and I’ve got to wake up out of them. . . . In this particular one, I felt as if my legs were being pulled off the bed, and it was like I was paralyzed from my waist down, and my legs were being pulled over to the side; yet I could almost use the top of my body. Then I’m grabbing a pillow, trying to hit my husband, to wake him up. . . . I’m fighting this. I’m not going to let this thing drag me off the bed by my legs. Then I woke up and saw it standing there again! This time the hood covered the eyes, and it didn’t scare me. . . . I was still terrified, but it didn’t scare me quite as much, because each time it scared me, it was that same power like I felt out in the field that night.

During all of this, her husband remained unable to remember anything of what had happened, and it was all very bizarre to say the least. Kelly would contact Sydney-based researcher Bill Chalker, of the UFO Investigation Centre, who would launch a full, in-depth investigation into the events along with a group called Phenomena Research Australia [PRA]. They were not only able to track down other witnesses in two other cars who had passed that night and seen the UFO at the time as well, but also locate the three people described by Cahill who had also been approached by the strange entities on that fateful evening, who all also just so happened to have triangular marks on their bodies very similar to the one Kelly had. In addition to this, upon investigating the site of the UFO landing, Chalker and his team claimed that they had managed to find various physical evidence such as chemical and magnetic anomalies, as well as unusual radiation and magnetic readings and strange marks in the field that could not be explained.

In the meantime, the whole bizarre tale had hit the news, and Kelly Cahill would become a bit of a celebrity, appearing on TV shows, at UFO conferences, and writing a book about it all in 1997 called Encounter: The True Story. She would add other details to her account over the years, claiming that she had been menaced by an unmarked black helicopter, and to have forged a telepathic link with the aliens, who warned that they planned to invade Earth. Although her story may sound fantastical and almost absurd to some, she has long been seen as a rather reliable witness, as she no history of mental illness, no reason to lie, no prior connection to the UFO field, and was largely praised by neighbors and family as being an honest, sincere woman. Indeed, this perceived reliability, as well as the corroborating reports and the physical evidence left behind, have made Kelly Cahill’s case very significant in the UFO field, with Bill Chalker saying of this:

Here we have a striking situation. Two groups of persons unknown to each other have witnessed the same UFO encounter and entities. They also experienced missing time, and each group has been available to competent investigators. Independent witnesses have provided information which enable cross-checking and correlations to reveal a remarkable amount of similar information. The result is a compelling case for the reality of the strange events described. The ontological status of the events is further strengthened by a range of apparently related physical traces, including ground traces, a magnetic anomaly, and effects on some of the witnesses.

Indeed, the case of Kelly Cahill has become one of the most intriguing and baffling UFO cases Australia has ever seen, yet it remains a frustrating nut to crack. The main problem is that, although Phenomena Research Australia claims to have compiled a detailed report on all of the data and information pertaining to the case, this report has never been released to the public and remains under wraps. The names of the supposed other witnesses have also never been revealed, and they have never been interviewed by independent, mainstream sources. Indeed, even the name Kelly Cahill is a pseudonym, and so there is a thick cloud of mystery obscuring the real truth. In the end, we may never know exactly what happened out there on that lonely road, and it remains a strange mystery that will perhaps always elude us, as well as one of the most bizarre alien abduction accounts Australia has ever seen.

Bats get blamed for a variety of human problems from rabies to viruses (including the coronavirus) to vampirism, even though most of the transmissions are caused by humans themselves – eating them, touching injured bats, disturbing their caves, etc. It’s long past time we humans show bats a little more respect and a new discovery gives an excellent reason why – it turns out vampire bats in the wild prevent the spread of illnesses within their colony by practicing social distancing. Feeling a little ashamed right now?

“We tracked this unintentional “social distancing” effect hour-by-hour in a wild colony of vampire bats. Using bat-borne proximity sensors, we compared changes in the social network connectedness of immune-challenged “sick” bats versus “control” bats over time.”

In a study published in the journal Behavioral Ecology, Simon P Ripperger of the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology at The Ohio State University and study lead author describes how his team captured 31 adult female vampire bats (Desmodus rotundus) from a roost in Belize, injected 16 with the immune-challenging substance lipopolysaccharide to make them “sick,” and injected the other left 15 with saline as a control group. Next, they attached proximity sensors and released them back into the wild. Then it was time to sit back and watch the monitors.

“Compared to the control group, “sick” (LPS-injected) bats associated with fewer groupmates (lower degree centrality), spent less time with others (lower strength centrality), and were less socially connected to more well-connected groupmates when considering both direct and indirect connections (lower eigenvector centrality), and these effects declined after the treatment period. During the 6 h of the treatment period, a “sick” bat associated on average with four fewer associates than a control bat.”

The “sick” vampire bats were observed spending less time interacting with the other bat in the colony, including participating in grooming their available partners, while the control bats continued normal associations. In other words, the sick bats self-isolated or practiced social distancing. This was more than just the normal behavior seen in most animals where the others in a group avoided the sick one – this was a conscious decision by the sick to stay away from the well until they felt better. While the lipopolysaccharide was not contagious, this data allowed the researchers to predict that this behavior would help reduce the spread of a contagious disease among the bats.

“The sensors gave us an amazing new window into how the social behavior of these bats changed from hour to hour and even minute to minute during the course of the day and night, even while they are hidden in the darkness of a hollow tree.”

As Ripperger indicates in the press release, frequent testing/monitoring of the vampire bats gave the surgeons an unprecedented way of tracking the “disease.” So, social distancing and testing helped keep the healthy bats safe while allowing the team to closely monitor their progress.

Leave it to vampire bats to show up humans. If those pointy little teeth didn’t tear them, they’d probably wear masks too.

Its got to be causing a lot of stress and panic for the public, and aliens want to record how humans handle such moments. This dark UFO is very similar to another UFO I reported yesterday that was over the Philippines not long ago. The UFO is dark, tear drop shaped and moves silently and slowly. Witness:

We were camping in Joshua Tree at Belle Campground, California on 10-20-2020. Around 7:20 pm when we observed bright lights in the sky. They looked like bright gold slightly orange lights. 

Started as 3 lights, turned into 4. Others appeared. disappeared, came back, multiplied into 3 or 4, lights separating and moving in relation to each other, in triangular patterns at times. Sometimes one morphing into 3 or 4 in a matter of seconds, at times 2 sets of 4. This happened 3 separate times from 7:20-10 pm. 

Then we heard plane or helicopter sounds, and upon looking thru binoculars we saw plumes of something above the lights. They looked larger and possibly different in shape, too. Other campers saw the lights. The people in the adjacent campsite commented that they had never seen anything like it. Mufon reports here and here.

Dr. Greer had been doing CE5 in Joshua Tree, for several nights previous to our arrival on 10-20-2020 while actress Roma Downey was in Joshua Tree and saw the lights too and posted a video of the lights on her twitter.

Special 'jellyfish galaxies' feed their supermassive black holes with enormous 'tentacles' of gas and stars

At the centre of many galaxies there is a supermassive black hole, which can be anything between 1,000 and one billion times the mass of our sun.

But not all these supermassive black holes are active, feeding on galaxies and shining brightly - and the reason why is a mystery.

Now, researchers have come closer to solving the mystery, by discovering a previously unknown way that supermassive black holes can 'feed'.

The team studied the central black holes within special 'jellyfish galaxies', which are named after their long tentacles of gas and stars.

They found that the mechanism that produces the 'tentacles' that give these galaxies their nickname also makes it possible for the gas to reach the central regions of the galaxies, feeding the black hole and causing it to shine brilliantly.

'These MUSE observations suggest a novel mechanism for gas to be funnelled towards the black hole's neighbourhood,' said Dr Yara Jaffé, co-author of the study, from the European Southern Observatory (ESO).

'This result is important because it provides a new piece in the puzzle of the poorly understood connections between supermassive black holes and their host galaxies.'

When a supermassive black hole at the centre of a galaxy is active, it is called an active galactic nuclei (AGN).

On average, less than a tenth of galaxies are found to have AGN at their centre. 

However, the new study found six out of seven of a special type of galaxy feed brightly shining supermassive black holes.

These galaxies, known as jellyfish galaxies, have extremely long tentacles of stars and gas – extending for tens of thousands of light years.

These tentacles are made by a process called ram pressure stripping, in galaxy clusters.

'This strong link between ram pressure stripping and active black holes was not predicted and has never been reported before,' said team leader Dr Bianca Poggianti from the INAF-Astronomical Observatory of Padova in Italy.

'It seems that the central black hole is being fed because some of the gas, rather than being removed, reaches the galaxy centre.'

But this is only the beginning - the study is part of a much more extensive experiment looking at many more jellyfish galaxies, which is currently in progress.

'This survey, when completed, will reveal how many, and which, gas-rich galaxies entering clusters go through a period of increased activity at their cores,' says Dr Poggianti.

'A long-standing puzzle in astronomy has been to understand how galaxies form and change in our expanding and evolving Universe.

'Jellyfish galaxies are a key to understanding galaxy evolution as they are galaxies caught in the middle of a dramatic transformation.'

Jellyfish galaxies are thought to take on their unique structure when they travel through the centers of galaxy clusters. As they move through, their motion pushes interstellar gas in the opposite direction, forming a gas tail that gives jellyfish galaxies their appearance of “tentacles” (really, stars and gas) and hence their name. Earlier studies indicated rapid star formation in the gas tails of jellyfish galaxies. And so astronomers began wondering about the role played by the jellyfish galaxies’ magnetic fields, especially since magnetic fields’ contribution to the process of star formation is an area of active research.

But the tails of jellyfish galaxies have been difficult to study due to their low brightness. That’s why galactic astronomers might have issued a satisfied collective “hmmmm!” this week (October 26, 2020), when a team in Europe announced the results of their careful analysis of the magnetic field structure of the tail of a jellyfish galaxy known as JO206. They found the magnetic field aligned very precisely along the galaxy’s “tentacles,” or tail, where active star formation is taking place.

The German-Italian team that conducted the study had their results published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Astronomy. Lead author was Ancla Müller from the Ruhr University Bochum. Müller explained:

As the galaxy falls on the center of the galaxy cluster, an interaction takes place with the medium between the individual galaxies and its magnetic field.

The magnetic fields of galaxies are an area of active research. Here’s an image from SOFIA showing celestial dust grains, which are aligned perpendicular to magnetic field lines at the center of our own galaxy, the Milky Way.

In order to explain this interaction, the team used computer simulations together with their polarization data observed with the VLA, to develop a theory. Their scenario involves the jellyfish galaxy JO206 rushing at high speed to the center of the galaxy cluster, causing its own magnetic fields to interact with those in the cluster. Meanwhile, hot winds from the space between the galaxies is collecting, they said, as accumulations of plasma (not solid, not liquid, not gas, but a fourth state of matter) on the outside of the newly formed tail of the jellyfish galaxy. Co-author Christoph Pfrommer of the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics in Potsdam explained that the magnetic layer surrounding the tail protects it from falling apart:

As the jellyfish galaxy flies through the galaxy cluster, its magnetic field wraps around the galaxy like a mantle and is further strengthened and smoothed by the high speed of the galaxy and by cooling effects.

Ancla Müller added:

This would provide enough material for star formation. It should be fascinating to see whether this picture can be confirmed by further measurements on other objects.

Astronomer Bianca Poggianti of the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics – whose earlier study had shown that stars can form in the gas tails of jellyfish galaxies, and who is a co-author on the current paper – concluded:

To verify the hypotheses suggested by the observations of the jellyfish galaxy JO206 we are observing other galaxies with similar tails using radio telescopes in Australia, South Africa and the United States.

The observation of the magnetic field of JO206 is the first and so far the only investigation of its kind in a jellyfish galaxy. We need more observations to understand if the discovered phenomenon is common or exceptional. This will also allow us to understand what connection exists between the magnetic field and the star formation outside the galaxy disks.

In the hunt for Planet Nine, astronomers eye a new search technique for the elusive world

Finding Planet Nine may require looking at telescope images in a different light.

Astronomers are vetting a "shifting and stacking" technique that could aid the hunt for the putative world, which some researchers think lurks undiscovered in the far outer system, way beyond Pluto's orbit. 

The strategy involves shifting space-telescope images along sets of possible orbital paths, then stacking the photos together to combine their light. The technique has already been used to discover some moons in our solar system, and it could potentially spot Planet Nine — also known as Planet X, Giant Planet Five or Planet Next — and other extremely farflung objects, researchers said.

"You really can’t see them without using this kind of method," Malena Rice, an astronomy Ph.D. student at Yale University in Connecticut, said in a statement. "If Planet Nine is out there, it’s going to be incredibly dim."

Rice is lead author of a new study that put the method into action. She and co-author Greg Laughlin, an astronomy professor at Yale, shifted and stacked images captured by NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), which hunts for alien worlds from Earth orbit. 

In a test, the researchers found the faint signals of three known trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) — small bodies that circle the sun beyond Neptune's orbit — in shifted and stacked TESS images. The scientists then conducted a blind search of two distant patches of sky, turning up 17 new TNO candidates.

"If even one of these candidate objects is real, it would help us to understand the dynamics of the outer solar system and the likely properties of Planet Nine," Rice said. "It’s compelling new information."

The researchers are currently working to confirm the 17 candidate TNOs, using imagery captured by ground-based telescopes. 

TNOs are bread crumbs that could lead to the way to Planet Nine. Researchers have inferred the hypothetical world's existence from the odd orbits of some TNOs, which they say are clustered in a way that strongly suggests sculpting by a big, farflung "perturber." The data indicate a planet five to 10 times more massive than Earth, orbiting the sun hundreds of times farther away than our world does.

Not everyone is on board with this interpretation, however. Some scientists think the TNOs' odd clustering arises from the combined gravitational influence of their many minuscule neighbors, not a single big object. 

The new study has been accepted by The Planetary Science Journal. Rice presented the results today (Oct. 27) at the annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society’s Division for Planetary Sciences, which is being held virtually this year.

NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft is tucking away precious asteroid samples for safekeeping

So, in a procedure that's become familiar for the OSIRIS-REx team, the mission's scientists and engineers reevaluated their plans. Originally, the spacecraft was scheduled to make a careful pirouette over the weekend that would tell scientists precisely how much weight OSIRIS-REx had picked up in its encounter. But without the flap fully closed, that spin would result in the spacecraft losing more space rock.

To prevent this, the mission staff decided to skip that step and instead go ahead and stow the sample, a days-long maneuver that starts today, rather than waiting until Nov. 2 as had been previously planned. The process will tuck the spacecraft's sampling head securely into its sample return capsule for safe travel to Earth. 

The OSIRIS-REx (short for Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security, Regolith Explorer) mission isn't done studying Bennu, however. The mission is scheduled to remain at the space rock until the middle of next year before turning back to Earth, where it will deliver its cargo in 2023.

While the mainstream media gushes over the announcement that NASA found more water on the Moon – even though it will take massive amounts of energy to extract it from giant mounds of soil — another discovery announced just before the water revelation received less attention despite being more mysterious.

“I’ve studied a lot of craters on the Moon, this is different. This is not like your regular [crater]. It looks like there is an object inside.”

Apollo lunar scientist Peter Schultz revealed during Science Channel ‘NASA’s Unexplained Files’ program that NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter was taking a picture of Mare Insularum (Sea of Islands), an ancient volcanic basin, and captured a nearby 130-foot-wide crater. The shape was non-circular, eliminating it from being an asteroid impact. But … there was a 580-foot-long (17.6 meters) resting in the bottom of it. The shape of the object and the location reminded some NASA old-timers of a seismic experiment during the Apollo moon missions that failed at the last minute. Could this be part of it?

Mare Insularum

“The plan was to measure shock waves from impact in order to find out more about the inner structure of the moon. We had seismographs on the surface of the moon that would have recorded the effects of the S-IVB. It was very valuable for those who tried to develop a picture of the inner mass of the moon from the seismograph and how it was.”

A video of the late Col. Al Worden, command module pilot for the Apollo 15 lunar mission in 1971, describes the experiment conducted during the following Apollo 16 mission in 1972. The S-IVB is the Saturn rocket booster that puts the spacecraft in lunar orbit before it is detached and crashes on the surface. Not wanting to waste a good crash, NASA saw it as a way to capture data on the mass of the Moon.

Unfortunately, NASA lost contact with the booster just before impact. However, the 15-ton booster was thought to be solid enough that it could survive the 500 mph (800 kph) impact, so astronomers and lunar researchers keep scanning photos and data for it. nearly 50 years later, they found it.

Is this a big deal? Definitely. It means there could be more remnants of spacecraft on the lunar surface – both from Earth and possibly from extraterrestrials. The booster, if it can be examined, could provide valuable data on conditions on the Moon for future missions. Finally, it’s one more memorial to those revolutionary, history-changing Apollo moon missions.

Does that beat finding a few more drops of water?

Squatting out in the dry lake bed of a desert wasteland in the Mojave Desert near Landers, California, is a massive solid granite rock that looms over the parched earth around it like some monolith from a lost civilization. Rather aptly named simply “Giant Rock,” the immense boulder is seven stories high and covering 5,800 square feet of land, making it one of the largest free standing rocks in the world. It is a formidable sight, and it is perhaps fitting that this place has long been held as sacred by the Native American tribes of the region, often seen as the heart of the Mother Earth, the people of this land once convening here to celebrate the changing of the seasons and shamans coming out across the forbidding desert to draw from its power. In more modern times, Giant Rock is also the scene of a strange tale that involves secret underground cities, aliens, a mad prophet, and a time machine.

During World War II, a German immigrant and desert prospector by the name of Frank Critzer became rather fascinated with Giant Rock, and went about tunneling beneath it looking to mine any riches he could find buried in the earth there, and he would eventually carve out rooms to use as a full time subterranean residence there. He became known as the eccentric mad loner who lived out under the rock, and he didn’t really have any friends until he met a former pilot, aircraft mechanic and flight inspector named George Van Tassel while in town pumping gas at a garage. The two got along well, becoming quick friends, and that was when Critzer began to tell him of the strange things he had experienced while living out in the desert under that mystical sacred rock.

Giant Rock

According to Critzer, his mining had uncovered strange tunnels down there in the gloom, which seemed to have completely smooth sides as if fashioned from glass and which plummeted down into the sheer blackness of the earth below to the unknown. Critzer claimed that these mysterious tunnels often emanated a strange buzzing sound somewhat akin to static, which had become so insistent that he had even built a special radio in an effort to distinguish the frequency of the constant drone. Critzer was certain that these were no normal naturally formed tunnels, and expressed his desire to explore them further, but he would never get a chance. In 1942, he fell under suspicion of being a German spy, and was confronted by authorities determined to take him in for questioning. The stubborn old loner refused to budge, and at some point during the tense standoff the police used a gas grenade to flush him out, which unintentionally ignited some mining dynamite that was lying around and erupted into a huge explosion that killed Critzer but left the rock itself relatively unfazed. The siege had ended in tragedy for Critzer, but for Van Tassel it had opened up an opportunity.

In 1947, Van Tassel moved with his family from his home in Barstow, California in order to start a new simple life out in the desert, and remembering the odd mysteries he had heard from Critzer he decided to move to Giant Rock. He moved in to Critzer’s cave home under the rock and leased the small nearby derelict airport from the Bureau of Land Management. He fixed up the airstrip and built a diner, shop, guest ranch and gas station there, turning it into a proper airport once again and the rock into a minor tourist attraction, and in the meantime he also held meditation sessions at Giant Rock to capitalize on the New Age idea that it was a sort of natural Earth power point. He also spent his free time poking around in the caves and tunnels under the rock, and it was these excursions that would take his life in a bizarre new direction.

There’s no way to really ease into it, so we’ll just come out and say it- it was aliens. Van Tassel claimed that he had not only found the strange tunnels mentioned by Critzer, but also that they were made by extraterrestrials, and through their crystalline structure he had managed to pick up messages from aliens from the planet Venus. Sometimes these incidents were just telepathic messages, but at other times he said that he had somehow astrally projected to meet the aliens themselves and ride aboard their ships. On one such occasion, an alien named Solganda brought him aboard their ship and taught him various advanced secrets on how to extend human life and heal any disease or ailment, and they also allegedly gave him blueprints for how to make a building that would serve as a “time machine for basic research on rejuvenation, anti-gravity, and time travel” that would “recharge energy into living cell structures, to bring about longer life with youthful energy.” He called this device the “Integratron,” and became absolutely obsessed with making it a reality, starting construction in 1954.

The Integratron

Van Tassel gathered together others who he told about his alien encounters and began work on what was to be a domed structure made up of non-ferromagnetic materials: wood, concrete, glass, and fiberglass, lacking any metal pieces whatsoever except a spinning copper wire core and a rotating metal structure on the outside he called an “electrostatic dirod.” As construction was going on, Van Tassel began holding annual UFO conventions in order to raise money for the project, with some of these gatherings attracting thousands of people, at its peak drawing in over 10,000 attendees. These conventions brought in many famous UFO contactees, and made Van Tassel so well known that he started The Ministry of Universal Wisdom and The College of Universal Wisdom in order to share the telepathic messages he was constantly receiving from the aliens, and he also wrote four books over the years, I Rode A Flying Saucer (1952, 1955) Into This World and Out Again (1956), The Council of Seven Lights (1958), Religion and Science Merged, and When Stars Look Down.

This would go one for over two decades, with Van Tassel devoting all of his time to these conventions and the building of the Integratron, but he would sadly never see it in its completed form. In 1978, just a few weeks before the machine was to be officially unveiled, Van Tassel would die from a heart attack, having never seen the fruits of all of his hard work or whether his Integratron would even work at all. To this day curiosity seekers and New Agers make pilgrimages to this desolate place, wanting to see the structure themselves or perhaps hoping to see UFOs and aliens. Whether any of Van Tassel’s visions were true or whether his machine ever had any hope of actually working, it is all a very curious tale and historical oddity that still serves to spark the imagination.

There have been UFO and alien encounters of all types over the years, from beings and craft of all shapes and sizes, but every once in a while there will be a spate of encounters and sightings that truly stick out as something truly odd. Whether it is because of some bizarre details or behavior, these cases certainly manage to lodge themselves firmly into the weirdest of the weird. One such series of events apparently happened in the country of Malaysia in the 1970s and 80s, and involves an intense wave of grumpy, action figure sized aliens and their tiny, toy-like spaceships.

What seems to have been an invasion of sorts carried out by aliens of very diminutive proportions began in the summer of 1970, in the city of Johor Bahru, in the country of Malaysia. On this day four young schoolboys were out in the playground when they spied a silver, disc-like object around the size of a dinner plate land and disgorge a group of five tiny humanoid beings, which each stood only around 5 inches in height and were dressed in some sort of reddish, one-piece outfits. As the kids looked on in astonishment, the miniscule little men reportedly crawled down a hole and the miniature craft they had ridden in just sort of vanished into thin air. When the boys went to investigate, they say they found a small burnt patch of grass, but nothing more. The schoolkids excitedly told their headmaster about the strange encounter, and soon more reports would emerge of similar creatures in the area.

On August 19, 1970, a miniature UFO was seen by schoolkids to land just outside of the playground of the Stowell Primary School in Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia, after which a door opened and a gangplank of sorts extended out of it. There was then seen a procession of little 3-inch tall humanoids with little antennae protruding from their heads and dressed in blue suits, with one of them in bright yellow. These tiny humanoids marched down the plank and mostly ignored the gawking kids as they went about building some sort of antennae like device until one of the boys tried to catch one of them. At that instance, the one in the yellow suit, possibly their leader, reportedly drew out a weapon of some kind and shot the boy in the hand with a laser beam, after which the kids recoiled away and told their teachers to come see it for themselves. However, the craft was gone when they arrived, with no sign of what had happened. Later that same day, the little UFO was seen again by one of the schoolchildren, and yet again one of the humanoids shot at him, this time causing him to black out. When he was found lying in the bushes the UFO was gone, but there was a mysterious red welt on his hand where he claimed the mini-laser gun had hit him.

After these initial reports, many of the children in the area began to report these small UFOs and their enigmatic occupants, with the craft never more than a few feet in diameter and the beings between 3 to 6 inches tall. There were also several other attempts to catch the entities, but they always either managed to escape or shot their attackers with their weapons, sometimes leaving cuts or burn marks upon the skin, including a cut incurred by the son of the local police chief. Reports like this went on throughout the summer of 1970, after which the miniature aliens seemed to have gone away. However, this wasn’t meant to last.

The year 1973 would see a resurgence in cases of miniaturized UFOs and aliens in Malaysia, largely concentrated around schools. The first of these supposedly happened at a schoolyard in Gambang, near Kuantan, where two school boys managed to catch a 3-inch tall humanoid, and on this occasion a teacher would come over and see the little man for himself before it managed to squirm out of captivity and run off. Not long after this, kids playing football at a playground at Bukit Mertajam saw a silvery craft only 2-feet across land near the field, which was enough for the kids to stop their game and go take a look. This seems to be something the tiny aliens did not appreciate, as they promptly fired on the boys with bright “beams of light” to send them scattering before flying away in their craft. Later that same year another of these little UFOs would be seen at a field in Ipoh, and this time it would be seen by some of the teachers as well as it flew off. There was also a sighting at Miri, Sarawak, in which the witnesses, again schoolboys, saw a 6-inch tall little man in a white space suit trying to cut a fence with some sort of welding instrument. As soon as the alien knew it was being watched it ran off and was lost in the brush. Interestingly there would be many other sightings of these creatures in the white suits, by both locals and some people on vacation as well, as a group of the entities was supposedly seen walking along a resort beach in the area of Miri.

After this the sightings would trail off until mini-UFOs hit the news again in 1976. In an article for Flying Saucer Review, Vol. 26, No. 5, Jan. 1981, UFO researcher Ahmad Jamaludin would report that there had been a spectacular sighting of one of the tiny humanoids at the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base, just outside of the town of Kuantan, Malaysia. The first sighting was made by a 9-year-old witness who saw the creature drinking water from a drain on the base. He said of its appearance, “it had two feelers on the head and held a steel-like rod in its hand. A pistol was hanging from its waist. It was brown in color and looked like a man.” The boy said that he went back later that evening with two of his friends and they all managed to see the same being. They then told their teacher about it, and he would oddly say of it, “There was no sign of the creature in the area, but I saw a Red Indian-like wigwam beautifully weaved out of grass. It was partly crushed.”

After this, things would go quiet again until 1979, when once again sightings of these impish aliens would fire up once more. It would seem that the aliens were getting a bit more aggressive than before, as in one report a boy had his whole arm paralyzed by one of the creature’s ray guns and in another report three boys and two adults claimed to have been blinded by a beam fired from one of the diminutive UFOs at a place called Kulim. Reports would then stop again, and the last official sighting of the miniature alien invaders allegedly happened in 1985, when a group of seven 6-inch tall humanoids was spotted by some schoolkids near a stack of wood at a school in Paka, Terengganu. Showing that these kids had learned nothing from previous reports of the little entities firing weapons, one of the boys reached out towards one of the creatures and was promptly shot by a beam of light that made his hand very itchy.

After this, the invasion of little people in Malaysia seems to have subsided, leaving us with many questions. What were these creatures and where did they come from? Why Malaysia, and why did they always seem to land at schools and appear to mostly children? Why were they so aggressive and why did kids keep trying to catch them? Was this all a big ongoing prank or something more? It is very likely we will never have the true answers to any of these questions, and we are left to wonder.

Glowing Object Over Brechin, Lagoon City Canada, Ontario Oct 23, 2020, UFO Sighting News.

This UFO was spotted while a person was working at the time of the recording and thats why the video is so short. The object is seen slowly moving around and does look similar to a tiny glowing cloud in the wind. However I believe it to be a UFO. The object seems to change direction slightly which clouds should not be able to do. This is an amazingly rare Canada sighting.

Black Knight Satellite UFO Silently Moves Over Philippines, April 18, 2019, Video, UFO Sighting News.

This object seems to be drafting through the sky, however when I make a close up of it...I find it baffling. The object has an opening on tis top. It has a brownish red tint and the open on its top has a few long spikes on it. The shape reminds me of one of the dark knight satellites I reported about 10 years ago from a NASA index. This is 100% alien, no doubt about it. I have heard of the UFOs over the Philippines, but this is the clearest video I have ever seen from there.

Creature With Tenticals Found On Mars, Oct 28, 2020, UFO Sighting News.

Screenshot below is a white fungus I found a few days ago...I think it feeds off this...its growing out like a plant.

I found this strange creature with tentacles in a Mars photo today. The animal has an exoskeleton and looks like a cross between a scorpion and a tortoise. Also there is a lot of white fungus like growth in the area. I believe that this animal may live off the liquid inside these fungus tubes. 15 years ago I found a color photo of the Mars rover and its deep tracks behind it. Behind the rover in the tracks I saw a single white fungus plant, broken off at the point the rover cut through it. It had a straw like opening and a white liquid was driving down from it and streaming into the tracks 3 inches below. The tracks were deep in the dirt...about 3 inches...which is unusual and thats why I took a look at the tracks and found it. I did not record the photo URL so it is still lost...out there. I believe this animal is eating the white liquid inside those fungus plants.

It spent first 3 or so minutes hovering in place, then began moving in circular and diagonal paths around the sky, not overly quickly and not in a significant distance, but very clearly moving, hovering, and repeating, then it moved erratically in the sky. 

The witness who watched the mysterious appearance for approximately 15 minutes said that it also was flashing in various colors before it disappeared. Mufon report here.

NASA FINDS BEST EVIDENCE YET THAT THERE IS WATER ICE ON THE MOON

NASA HAS THE BEST EVIDENCE YET THAT THERE IS WATER ON THE MOON — and it appears far more abundant and more accessible than scientists first realized.

Trapped in ice, the evidence offers welcome justification for NASA’s ambitious program to not only return humans to the Moon by 2024, but to also establish a long-term, manned lunar base operating on a similar basis to the International Space Station.

As part of NASA's upcoming Artemis mission, the space agency wants to build a permanent lunar base on the Moon that will help astronauts reach further destinations like Mars. However, in order to do that, future astronauts would need to find resources on the Moon that can help accommodate their stay. Chief among them: water.

In a pair of studies published Monday in the journal Nature Astronomy, scientists report both the 'unambigious' detection of molecular water and small, icy water traps that are much more spread out across the lunar surface than previously believed.

In terms of the exact amount of water found, Casey Honniball, one of the scientists who took part in the research and a postdoctoral fellow at NASA, said: "The amount of water is roughly equivalent to a 12 ounce bottle of water within a cubic meter of lunar soil." However it is important to note that the water is seemingly distributed across the lunar surface, and there may be differences across regions, she added. Honniball made the comments during a press conference to announce the discovery Monday.

A WATERY WORLD 

In 2018, scientists discovered evidence of water ice on the Moon's surface, mainly at lunar crater in the Moon's southern pole. Some of the water ice was also apparent at the northern pole, where temperatures never reach above -250 degrees Fahrenheit.

But the new discovery find ice water may be much more abundant across the lunar surface — occupying an area some 40,000 km squared, or about the same area as the country of Switzerland. Importantly, water also appears to exist in areas lit by sunlight — a key distinction from the implication of the 2018 results that water existed only in extremely cold, dark regions on the Moon.

Paul Hayne, a researcher at the Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences Department at the University of Colorado, and lead author of one of the new studies, noticed cold shadows in images of the Moon collected by NASA's Reconnaissance Orbiter and decided to investigate it further.

"If you could keep zooming in forever, at one point would you stop seeing those shadows," Hayne tells Inverse.

By further analyzing the image, the team behind the new study discovered that besides the large permanently shadowed craters on the Moon, there are tens of billions of other smaller cold traps that had not been mapped before across the lunar surface. Some of these are the size of a penny, the data suggest.

"What surprised us is just the sheer number," Hayne says. "Tens of billions of them and spread out throughout the poles."

The new discovery also showed that these shadowed areas can be found within a centimeter of sun-lit areas on the Moon, meaning that they are a lot more accessible than previously believed.Astronauts may not need to venture to the areas of the Moon where temperatures are freezing.

Instead, they could be standing in the relatively warm sunlit areas and still be able to have access to the frozen water.“It definitely expands the possibilities,” Hayne says. “What this discovery does is also expand the real estate on the lunar surface where a base could be viable.”

The studies also find clear evidence that the signs of water the scientists in 2018 found are indeed water, not of hydroxyls. Hydroxyls are used in household chemicals, like drain cleaner, according to Honniball.

HUMANS' FUTURE ON THE MOON 

 The scientists behind the two studies reinforced the idea that water is "extremely critical" to deep space exploration. It could be used for drinking water, and for other purposes they said. But water is heavy, Jacob Bleacher, a NASA researcher involved in the work, said during the same conference. That makes it hard to transport from Earth to the Moon, or further into space.

"Finding water that is easier to reach is really important to us," Bleacher said.

Knowing how much water is on the Moon, how it is stored, and whether it is replenished over time are important questions to answer for any future human exploration or stays on the Moon, Bleacher added. Ultimately, scientists hope to establish a lunar water resource map, he said.

SOFIA, NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, was critical to these new results. But SOFIA was not supposed to study the Moon. It was a shock when, during a test, the scientists operating the observatory found these clear signals of water across the Moon's surface, Naseem Rangwala, project scientist for the SOFIA mission, said during the conference.

An important implication of these results is that when planning a future lunar base, scientists may no longer be restricted to exploring the rims of lunar craters previously known to have ice water. Scientists also noted in the press conference that there is likely similar abundance on the far-side of the Moon as seen here on the near-side.

The discovery offers up new questions about how water can persist on the harsh conditions on the lunar surface, Paul Hertz, Astrophysics division director at NASA, added. The Moon has no atmosphere, and the surface is thought entirely inhospitable due to the harmful affects of solar radiation. But the new results suggest lunar water may withstand solar radiation because it is stored in the form of glass-like beads.

If water can persist — and replenish — across the Moon, then it is possible future lunar explorers could mine and use Moon water as we use water here on Earth, from growing crops to drinking cocktails.

Abstract 1: 

Widespread hydration was detected on the lunar surface through observations of a characteristic absorption feature at 3 µm by three independent spacecraft^1,2,3. Whether the hydration is molecular water (H₂O) or other hydroxyl (OH) compounds is unknown and there are no established methods to distinguish the two using the 3 µm band⁴. However, a fundamental vibration of molecular water produces a spectral signature at 6 µm that is not shared by other hydroxyl compounds⁵. Here, we present observations of the Moon at 6 µm using the NASA/DLR Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). Observations reveal a 6 µm emission feature at high lunar latitudes due to the presence of molecular water on the lunar surface. On the basis of the strength of the 6 µm band, we estimate abundances of about 100 to 400 µg g⁻¹ H₂O. We find that the distribution of water over the small latitude range is a result of local geology and is probably not a global phenomenon. Lastly, we suggest that a majority of the water we detect must be stored within glasses or in voids between grains sheltered from the harsh lunar environment, allowing the water to remain on the lunar surface.

Abstract 2: 

Water ice is thought to be trapped in large permanently shadowed regions in the Moon’s polar regions, due to their extremely low temperatures. Here, we show that many unmapped cold traps exist on small spatial scales, substantially augmenting the areas where ice may accumulate. Using theoretical models and data from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, we estimate the contribution of shadows on scales from 1 km to 1 cm, the smallest distance over which we find cold-trapping to be effective for water ice. Approximately 10–20% of the permanent cold-trap area for water is found to be contained in these micro cold traps, which are the most numerous cold traps on the Moon. Consideration of all spatial scales therefore substantially increases the number of cold traps over previous estimates, for a total area of ~40,000 km², about 60% of which is in the south. A majority of cold traps for water ice is found at latitudes > 80° because permanent shadows equatorward of 80° are typically too warm to support ice accumulation. Our results suggest that water trapped at the lunar poles may be more widely distributed and accessible as a resource for future missions than previously thought.

NASA finds water in cold traps on the moon — and it could sustain a lunar base

The moon is much wetter than we thought -- not one, but two papers show it.

 We’ve suspected there was water on the moon for about a decade, but there was some room for interpretation. Well, not anymore.

“It’s actually 40,000 square kilometers,” Paul Hayne, one of the study authors, tells me, pointing out a typo in a press release. That’s 40,000 square kilometers that could host water on the moon.

The moon has a swarm of shadowy traps — traps where the sun never shines, cold enough that they could host water. It’s not the first time something like this has been speculated by researchers. In 2009, NASA scientists found water molecules in the polar regions of the moon.

But the 2009 study couldn’t really tell whether it was really (frozen) water or if there water is entrapped in lunar rocks. If this were the case, then the rock-embedded water (in a form called hydroxyl) wouldn’t really be of much use to potential moon missions. Now we know: it’s not.

As my colleague Rob points out, water has a distinct chemical signature that hydroxyl doesn’t, but it’s not always visible: you have to use the right instruments to see it. Casey Honniball and colleagues analyzed data from the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) airborne telescope that observed the Moon at 6 micrometers (or microns) wavelengths. At this wavelength, the chemical signature of water becomes detectable, which confirmed that the 2009 study was on the money — it is indeed molecular water, not water that’s trapped in geological structures.

We’ve suspected there was water on the moon for about a decade, but there was some room for interpretation. Well, not anymore.

“It’s actually 40,000 square kilometers,” Paul Hayne, one of the study authors, tells me, pointing out a typo in a press release. That’s 40,000 square kilometers that could host water on the moon.

The moon has a swarm of shadowy traps — traps where the sun never shines, cold enough that they could host water. It’s not the first time something like this has been speculatedby researchers. In 2009, NASA scientists found water molecules in the polar regions of the moon.

But the 2009 study couldn’t really tell whether it was really (frozen) water or if there water is entrapped in lunar rocks. If this were the case, then the rock-embedded water (in a form called hydroxyl) wouldn’t really be of much use to potential moon missions. Now we know: it’s not.

As my colleague Rob points out, water has a distinct chemical signature that hydroxyl doesn’t, but it’s not always visible: you have to use the right instruments to see it. Casey Honniball and colleagues analyzed data from the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) airborne telescope that observed the Moon at 6 micrometers (or microns) wavelengths. At this wavelength, the chemical signature of water becomes detectable, which confirmed that the 2009 study was on the money — it is indeed molecular water, not water that’s trapped in geological structures.

But this is just one of the puzzle pieces published today. In the other one, Paul Hayne and colleagues explored phenomena called “cold traps”.

Where the sun doesn’t shine

Imagine standing on the surface of the moon, near one of its poles, Hayne explains. You’d see a lot of shadows — shadows where the sun doesn’t shine, that are cold enough to preserve frozen water even without a lunar atmosphere.

“All of this area could harbor water ice, because these are regions where the temperature is so low (less than -163 °C) that ice is stable for billions of years.” There’s a lot of area that could hold water, but it’s not clear just how much there is. “However, we do not yet know how much is there.”

THe shadowed Shackleton Crater near the moon’s south pole is one location where scientists have found deposits of water ice. The ice can not only be used by lunar astronomers, but it has the potential to reveal insights about the moon’s history, (and the Earth’s) history.

Hayne and colleagues found that cold traps could vary drastically in size, down to just 1 centimetre in diameter. The smaller ones are much more common, Hayne notes, and all traps are more common in the polar areas. where light falls at more of an angle.

“Our findings suggest that water deposits in the micro cold traps are much more geographically widespread in the polar regions,” he explains.

What this all means

The immediate significance of this discovery is practical: if there’s a lot of water on the moon, then there’s a lot of water that could be used in lumar missions — and having access to water is an excellent starting point for a prospective lunar base, or even a research station.

“This discovery should make it easier to perform extraction and utilization for both science and exploration missions in the future,” Hayne also explains.

But the fact that the moon could host water is only a part of the story; where did that water come from in the first place?

Water may have been delivered to the Moon over geological timescales by an astronomical bombardment, Haynes says. Understanding where it came from could even reveal where the water on Earth is sourced. But if we really want to figure that out, remote observations just won’t do.

“The mostly likely sources based on current understanding are:

1) comets,

2) asteroids and interplanetary dust,

3) solar wind protons, and

4) volcanic outgassing from the Moon itself.

We will need to get down on the surface and analyze the ice deposits directly in order to understand which of these sources dominates. This also would shed light on the origins of Earth’s water.”
