Meet India’s UFO Hunters

Meet India’s UFO Hunters

about the video
In January 2017, the CIA declassified and shared 930,000 documents on its website. One of these included a document from 1968 detailing six UFO sightings in India, Nepal, and Bhutan. Indian UFO sightings thereafter have been sporadic compared to countries like the US and Russia. But this relative paucity does not deter a small (but determined) community of UFO investigators in India. What does the work of an Indian UFOlogist entail? What drives them? What are the strangest cases they’ve encountered, and how has their search impacted other areas of their lives? These are their stories. (Hindustan Times)

Author searches for truth in 'Fifty Shades of Greys'

Author searches for truth in 'Fifty Shades of Greys'

Szymanski

The truth is out there, and Raymond Szymanski is searching for it.

Szymanski is the author of “Fifty Shades of Greys,” a book about his search for evidence of alien encounters. He will be speaking this afternoon at a panel for the Mutual UFO Network of North Carolina at the Courtyard Winston-Salem at Hanes Mall.

The book, published last year, examines several prominent cases in UFO lore, including the belief that “Hangar 18” at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base was once used to store evidence of extraterrestrials.

“I worked 38 years and nine months at Wright-Patterson,” said Szymanski, a retired engineer who worked with computer software for weapons systems among other duties at the base, having started there in 1973. He may not have seen definitive proof of aliens during his time there, but he saw and heard enough to spark a lasting interest in the subject.

Several years ago, even before he retired, he began researching various UFO sightings and alleged abduction cases, traveling to sites, interviewing witnesses, and doing first-person field research. “I’ve come up with, I think, some compelling theories based on what I’ve found,” he said.

Lakita Adams, the state director of MUFON-NC, said that she appreciates Szymanski’s approach to his investigations. “This is a subject filled with speculation and disinformation,” she said. “As an investigator who pursues evidence and data, I appreciate Ray’s approach of following the facts.”

His book’s title is a tongue-in-cheek play on “Fifty Shades of Grey” — for the uninitiated, “greys” are a commonly reported type of aliens (think bald heads, grey skin and spindly bodies).

“It’s an accounting of my quest for the truth about extraterrestrial visitation,” Szymanski said, “but I wanted to write it in a manner that might be more open to people.” So he added “a vein of humor,” both to the title and to the book overall, sharing misadventures he had along the way during his research as well as more serious findings.

He speaks about twice a month to groups of UFO enthusiasts, having recently finished a five-city tour. He is about to take a break from tours and interviews to work on two more books. One will focus on the stories people have shared with him at his appearances, and the other — which he describes “my third and final; I think a trilogy will be good” — has more of his field research.

Szymanski says he believes he has “solved the mystery of Hangar 18,” but he is saving that revelation for another day.

“It took a couple of years and divine intervention,” he said, “but I believe I’ve nailed it.”

Video: UFO Crosses Sky Over California Desert on Wednesday Afternoon, May 3, 2017

Video: UFO Crosses Sky Over California Desert on Wednesday Afternoon, May 3, 2017.

"Frank Zappa" films clearest UFO video in years. Are they here because of DPRK's Atomic Program?

The clearest UFO video footage in years coincides with a study that says California is a UFO hotspot

One thing is for sure: This one is no fake. Who could create such a bright light in the sky for 2 minutes? Seeing is believing, and this is the clearest UFO video we have seen in years.

A UFO flying over head in the California Desert at 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, has been posted to Youtube by a user calling himself Frank Zappa. The famous musician has been dead for ten years, so it seems unlikely that Zappa himself posted it. Though Zappa did name his daughter, the subject of "Valley Girl," Moon Unit. But I digress.

Meanwhile, California is reported to be the site of most UFO sightings. "UFO Sightings Desk Reference," a new book on reported UFO sightings, found that California had the most reports of visual encounters with unidentified objects in the United States. This includes hundreds of reported sightings, CBS San Francisco reports.

The book analyzed more than 120,000 reports of UFOs and found more Californians believed they'd come in contact with extraterrestrial life than anyone else in the country.

Was the appearance connected in anyway with international Star Wars day, May the 4th Be With You, celebrated Thursday? Ok, that one's a stretch. But nuclear weapons testing in North Korea may be connected, actually. After all, 1950's atomic bomb testing in Nevada attracted hundreds of alien spacecraft. The DPRK has accelerated it's program recently, with similar effect. Was the UFO a missile from Vandenberg, or even the DPRK?

"We found that UFOs were sighted in every county in the United States. Every county had at least one sighting sometime in the past 15 years," the book's co-author, Cheryl Costa, explained.

According to Costa, Santa Clara County topped the list in Northern California with 569 reported sightings. Alameda County was second with 518, while San Francisco trailed with 327, reports CBS News

So what happened to the Zappa UFO after it left visual range? Did it crash in the desert and create yet another crater?

Gargantuan craters are seen pockmarking the rest of the solar system other than Earth. Recent studies of such impact craters on the moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars suggested that meteor strikes could trigger volcanic activity.

s_bottomTEMP425x425-2718.jpeg

Film of the Zappa UFO is embedded above and lasts for just over 2 minutes.

However, over the course of millions of years, geological activity has eradicated the vast majority of ancient impact craters on Earth. This has limited research into whether meteor strikes could also set off volcanism on Earth, said study senior author Balz Kamber, a geochemist in Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, and his colleagues.

As for Zappa: In May 1982, Frank Zappa released Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch, which featured his biggest selling single ever, the Grammy Award-nominated song "Valley Girl" (topping out at No. 32 on the Billboard charts).

In her improvised lyrics to the song, Zappa's daughter Moon Unit satirized the patois of teenage girls from the San Fernando Valley, which popularized many "Valspeak" expressions such as "gag me with a spoon", "fer sure, fer sure", "grody to the max", and "barf out".

The Issue Of Proof

The Issue Of Proof

Columnist Cheryl Costa examines the proof she has of her findings

Since I started this column, and since we released our book, UFO Sightings Desk Reference, various people have asked me, “Cheryl, where’s your proof that these sightings are really alien space crafts?”

My answer can only be, “I have none.” Of course this raises the question: Does this diminish the facts of our compiled statistics book of 121,036 reported UFO sightings from 2001-2015? I say, “Not in the least.”

Our objective was simply to report the magnitude of the UFO sighting reports for a 15-year period. Our other objective was to demonstrate that UFO sightings have been on the rise for some time, despite reports that reports have been declining since the 1980s.

I’m simply reporting what 121,036 Americans have stated; I can’t confirm or deny the facts of their sightings. Although, before we start dismissing these reports as bogus or misidentifications, we need to consider the bottom line. During an average month in the past 15 years, people in the United States have reported as little as handfuls to hundreds of UFO sightings.

Experienced investigators will tell you that only a small percentage or sighting reports are hoaxes or delusional people. Some sightings turn out to be natural phenomena, while others might be misidentification of things like experimental military aircrafts.

Then there is the large number of sightings that just can’t be explained. The experts I’ve spoken to say the number of unexplained exotic sightings sits in the 7-20 percent range. “Exotic” means not from Earth or not from our Dimensional Reality. The ultra-conservative investigators say the exotic stuff is about 4 percent of the overall data.

Let’s look at that 4 percent for a minute. We compiled 121,036 sightings from our 15-year reporting sample. If we take 4 percent of 121,036, that equals 4,841 potentially exotic sightings. If we divide 4,841 by 15 years, we get an average of about 323 per year. If we divide 323 of these unique unexplained sightings by 12 months, we get an average of 30 exotic sightings a month. Of course, that number could be a whole lot bigger. The possibility of 30 off-world or other dimensional-reality crafts per month for the past 15 years is something to sit up and take notice of.

Our UFO Sightings Desk Reference was intended to simply quantify the degree of the UFO sighting phenomena in the United States. We had neither the resources nor the expertise to vet every single one of those 121,036 sighting reports. We simply counted them all and reported our findings in the form of charts and tables. In effect, we produced a UFO census for all 50 states and their districts.

But the question, like a broken record, that keeps coming back is the question of “proof,” and that, as they say, is “the rub!” Was it our obligation to provide proof? No! As I said previously, that wasn’t our objective, and proof of alien crafts weren’t within the bounds of our resources or expertise to produce. What we have done is dispel the notion that UFO sightings are on the decline, when in fact, they are on the rise. In addition, we made at least half a dozen previously unknown discoveries supported by the numbers. So as researchers we achieved the objective we set out to answer and then some.

“But, Cheryl, you have no proof!” OK, so whose job is it to research data like ours and take it to the next level, maybe even achieve a level of proof, which some folks are demanding? In the scientific world, to verify the validity of a piece of scientific information, it must be evaluated. The usually accepted scholarly process can be one or all of the following:

  • Research articles can be published in academic, peer reviewed journals.
  • Or published in official government agency reports and journals.
  • Or get validation by some independent scholarly institution, such as various countries’ National Academies of Sciences or various non-profit research organizations.
  • Lastly, traditional, major and respected newspapers are considered reliable.

It shouldn’t be a declaration, “You have no proof.” It should be a question: “Why haven’t the scholarly and scientific institutions investigated the UFO question since the 1970s?”  We have proved it hasn’t gone away.

If you are interested in joining a monthly UFO discussion group in the Onondaga County area, drop Cheryl an email at Blogger@CherylCosta.com. If you have a UFO sighting to report, you can use either one of the two national database services: nuforc.org or mufon.com. Both services respect confidentiality. Follow me on Twitter @American_Skies.

WHY WOULD ALIENS EVEN BOTHER WITH EARTH?

WHY WOULD ALIENS EVEN BOTHER WITH EARTH?

THE PROS AND CONS OF A TRIP TO THE PLANET WE CALL HOME

 By Lewis Dartnell
As an astrobiologist I spend a lot of my time working in the lab with samples from some of the most extreme places on Earth, investigating how life might survive on other worlds in our solar system and what signs of their existence we could detect. If there is biology beyond the Earth, the vast majority of life in the Galaxy will be microbial—hardy single-celled life forms that tolerate a much greater range of conditions than more complex organisms can. To be honest, my own point of view is pretty pessimistic. Don’t get me wrong—if the Earth received an alien tweet tomorrow, or some other text message beamed at us by radio or laser pulse, then I’d be absolutely thrilled. So far, though, we’ve seen no convincing evidence of other civilizations among the stars in our skies.

But let’s say, just for the sake of argument, that there are one or more star-faring alien civilizations in the Milky Way. We’re all familiar with Hollywood’s darker depictions of what aliens might do when they come to the Earth: zapping the White House, harvesting humanity for food like a herd of cattle, or sucking our oceans dry. These scenarios make great films, but don’t really stand up to rational scrutiny. So let’s run through a thought experiment on what reasons aliens might possibly have to visit the Earth, not because I reckon we need to ready our defenses or assemble a welcoming party, but because I think considering these possibilities is a great way of exploring many of the core themes of the science of astrobiology.

I. Aliens come to Earth to enslave humanity or for breeding partners

Alien races enslaving each other is a common trope of many science fiction universes. While enslavement of defeated enemies or other vulnerable populations has regrettably been a common feature of our history on Earth, it’s hard to see why a species with the capability of voyaging between the stars, and therefore having already demonstrated the mastery of a highly advanced level of machinery and of marshaling energy resources, would have any need for slaves. Constructing robots, or other forms of automation or mechanization, would be a far more effective solution for labor—people are feeble in comparison, harder to fix, and need to be fed.

Likewise, the idea of an alien species needing humans for breeding doesn’t really stand up to scrutiny. The act of sexual reproduction, on a genetic level, involves the combination of  DNA from two individuals. So on the most fundamental level, for an alien race to be compatible with us, they would need not only to use the same polymer, deoxyribonucleic acid, as the storage molecule for their genetic information, but also to use the same four “letters” for their genetic alphabet (and not other purine and pyrimidine bases that exist in chemistry), and the same coding system for translating those sequences of genetic letters into proteins, and the same organizational structure of the DNA strands into chromosomes, and so on. There is a lot of ongoing research on whether extraterrestrial life is likely to use DNA, or what molecular alternatives there might be, but it is a huge stretch to expect alien life to be that similar to human genetics. Humans can’t even interbreed with our closest evolutionary relatives on Earth, the chimpanzees (indeed, this is the basis of the definition for different species—two organisms which are not able to reproduce fertile offspring), and so it is overwhelmingly improbable that an alien life form from a completely different evolutionary lineage would be compatible.

II. Aliens come to Earth to harvest us for food

If aliens wouldn’t be bothered about enslaving or breeding with us, might they simply be coming to Earth for a drive-by meal? The question of whether an alien biochemistry would be able to digest us as food actually comes down to some very fundamental features of the molecules of life. Our cells are made up of various organic molecules: proteins (polymers of amino acids), nucleic acids DNA and RNA (polymers of bases and sugars), and membranes of phospholipids. And so for making more cells for reproduction, growth and repair of our bodies we need a source of these simple building blocks. We eat other animals or plants and our digestive system breaks them down into their component amino acids, sugars, and fatty acids, which we then use as the building blocks for ourselves. So in order to derive any useful nutrition from eating a human, an alien monster would need to be based on very similar biochemistry, and thus have the enzymes needed for processing the molecules we are built from.

A whole variety of amino acids, sugars and fatty molecules are actually found in certain meteorites, having been produced by astrochemistry in outer space, and so maybe extraterrestrial life would be based on the same basic building blocks as us. But there’s another, very interesting subtlety here. Simple organic molecules like amino acids and sugars can exist in two different forms, mirror images of each other (in the same way your two hands are similar shapes but can’t be placed exactly one on top of the other). These two versions are known as enantiomers, and it turns out that all life on Earth uses only left-handed amino acids and right-handed sugars, whereas non-living chemistry produces even mixtures of both kinds.

So if we do find traces of amino acids on Mars, one very good way of telling whether these organic molecules are the relics of ancient Martian life or are just the product of astrochemistry would be to check if they are mostly left- or right-handed forms, or just an even mixture. The most exciting discovery would be to detect traces of ancient bacteria on Mars and to find that they employ the opposite forms of organic molecules to us: right-handed amino acids or left-handed sugars, because then we would know for sure that this life was definitely extraterrestrial and not merely contamination from Earth. So here’s a fascinating thought: alien invaders could be based on exactly the same organic molecules (amino acids, sugars, etc.), but they still wouldn’t gain any nutrition from eating us as the origins of life on their own planet settled on the opposite enantiomers. We’d be mirror images of each other, on a molecular level.

III. Aliens come to Earth to suck our oceans dry

If alien marauders would need to have an essentially identical biochemistry to bother culling us for food, maybe they come to Earth to harvest some other vital substance. All life on Earth is water-based; H2O is astonishingly versatile as a solvent and participant in biochemistry and so it seems likely that extraterrestrial life would also be based on this compound. Perhaps, then, aliens may be drawn to the Earth for our wonderfully wet oceans and seas and rivers and lakes—to siphon off our hydrological cycle.

The problem with this supposition is that there are loads of far better sources of water in space. In fact, we think that when Earth first formed from the swirling disc of gas and dust around the proto-Sun it was actually a pretty dry planet; the water to fill our oceans was delivered later by a barrage of comets and asteroids from the colder, outer regions of the solar system. In fact, Europa, one of the moons orbiting Jupiter, contains more liquid water in the global ocean beneath its frozen surface than our entire planet—Europa, and not Earth, is the Waterworld of our solar system. So if you were an alien voyaging between star systems in need of a drink, you’d have access to a far greater amount of water in the icy moons and cometary halo of the outer solar system. You’d also find it much more practical to operate in deep space, rather than trying to suck up the oceans against the gravitational pull of the planet Earth.

IV. Aliens come to Earth for some other raw material

If not water, then maybe there’s some other natural resource that aliens might invade the Earth to exploit. Perhaps they intend to wipe away our cities and begin strip-mining the crust of the planet for ores to extract metals and build more vast spaceships. But in fact, because the Earth formed from a molten state with iron sinking down to the core, our planet’s crust is actually pretty depleted of useful metals like iron, nickel, platinum, tungsten and gold. And as with the water, it’s hard to see why aliens would bother extracting material against the gravity of the Earth when the asteroids are composed of the same basic rocky stuff. In fact, some asteroids are believed to be essentially pure lumps of metal—they were once the cores of protoplanets that were smashed apart again by the colossal collisions in the early history of the solar system. Several companies are already proposing to launch asteroid mining operations to exploit these exceedingly valuable resources.

Perhaps, though, there might be a reason that our hypothetical aliens would come to mine the Earth. While it’s true that the asteroids and Earth, and other terrestrial planets, are made up of essentially the same rocky material, the Earth isn’t simply an inert lump; it’s a very active, dynamic place. In particular, the thin crust of the Earth is fractured into separate shards that are continually sliding around on top of the hot gooey mantle, rubbing alongside each other, crunching head-on, subducting one beneath another, or pulling apart to create fresh crust. This is the churning process of plate tectonics.

So far, astronomers have already found over four and a half thousand extrasolar planets—worlds orbiting other stars—and the expectation now is that there are billions of rocky planets in our Galaxy. But here’s a thought right on the forefront of current planetary science and astrobiology. Perhaps terrestrial planets are common, but terrestrial planets with plate tectonics are rare. Plate tectonics is thought to be vital for keeping the Earth’s climate stable over billions of years to allow complex life like ours to evolve, and it also acts to concentrate certain metals into rich ores. It seems likely that only a small proportion of terrestrial planets undergo plate tectonics (neither Mars nor Venus does). So perhaps an alien civilization would come to the Earth for our exceptional plate tectonics and concentration of particular metals, and the fact that the same tectonics had also enabled a rich biosphere to develop would be merely an inconvenience.

V. Aliens come to Earth looking for a new home

There is a considerable amount of rocky real estate in the galaxy for aliens to consider moving home to, but a terrestrial planet might need to offer more than just a habitable zone locale to be able to support complex life. Communities of hardy microbial cells thriving off inorganic energy deep underground might be able to survive pretty much anywhere, but complex life requires much narrower environmental conditions on the surface. Various features of the Earth beyond our warm oceans are thought to be crucial to maintaining a stable surface environment for geological time periods. These include plate tectonics acting to regulate the climate, a large moon preventing the spin axis of the planet from wobbling too much, and a global magnetic field for deflecting aside the solar wind and preventing the atmosphere being blown away into space. For these reasons, maybe planets like the Earth are something of a rarity, and so present particularly desirable targets for alien colonization.

But while it’s true that such worlds may well be required for complex life to evolve in the first place, once an intelligent species becomes technologically advanced enough to travel between the stars it’s also likely to be able to artificially manage a planet’s environment. For example, many people are already starting to talk seriously about “mega-engineering” or “geoengineering” projects to avoid the worst effects of global warming on Earth, and we’ve worked out, at least in broad terms so far, how further in the future we could “terraform” Mars to create a habitable environment for humans to live on the surface without needing spacesuits. Indeed, the very fact that Earth is already teeming with its own life (most of which is tenacious microbes that affect the chemistry of the atmosphere and oceans) may well be a hindrance to an alien species, with its own quirky biochemistry, looking for somewhere to colonize. It may well be easier to find a terrestrial world that hasn’t already developed life of its own, and install its own biosphere on an empty planet.

VI. Aliens come to the Earth for the Earthlings

To my mind, then, the enormous amounts of time and energy that are likely to be necessary for traveling between the stars in a galaxy, and the fact that raw materials can be sought elsewhere more practically, would rule out aliens coming to the Earth simply to take something we have. I think we can safely rest assured that even if intelligent alien species do exist in our galaxy, they are not about to appear in our skies with an invasion fleet to subjugate humanity and begin stripping our world. Perhaps the thing that may attract only extraterrestrials to Earth is us. I suspect that if aliens did come to Earth, it would be as researchers: biologists, anthropologists, linguists, keen to understand the peculiar workings of life on Earth, to meet humanity and learn of our art, music, culture, languages, philosophies and religions.

If aliens do come to pay us a visit, there’s one final way that the movies have probably got it all wrong. The laws of physics (at least as we currently understand them—after all, in 100 years we may have worked out how to build a practical warp drive or stretch stable wormholes through the fabric of space-time) strongly constrain movement across the vast gulfs between stars. To make the journey time from one star system to the next anything less than scores of millennia, you need to accelerate your spaceship to a fair fraction of the speed of light. The greater the mass you need to accelerate, the greater the energy required, so you really want to keep your starships as small and light as possible.

Intelligent life forms like humans are inherently bulky things, particularly when you want to send a team of them along with all the life support machinery and regeneration systems for keeping them alive in space. But a much more plausible alternative presents itself. Perhaps it’s unrealistic to expect ET to go through all the discomfort and bother of actually voyaging in person across the oceans of interstellar space to far-flung worlds, but instead to travel by proxy. To cross the galaxy not by encasing wet, vulnerable biological organisms within complex life-support technology, but as the hardened, durable technology itself. With a more complete understanding of how the human brain works—the neuronal wiring diagram and other interactions that give rise to intelligence and consciousness—it stands to reason that we could not only simulate this perfectly within hardware to construct an AI (artificial intelligence), but also potentially upload the consciousness of a living person into a computer.

Contained within a capsule of miniaturized electronics and systems for self-repair you’d not only be essentially immortal, but also incredibly compact and light and much better suited for inter- stellar travel. In this sense, perhaps most life in the galaxy isn’t carbon-based (organic), but silicon-based. I don’t mean this in the sense of silicoid monsters imagined living inside volcanoes in The X-Files or Star Trek, but as the hardware supporting complex sentient computer programs. Silicon life would be second generation, existing only because it has been designed and created by a precursor organic species, which itself evolved naturally on a habitable world.

For these reasons, it strikes me that if there is intelligent alien life out there in our galaxy, they almost certainly wouldn’t pay us a visit in person in huge city-sized motherships, but by sending their sentient robots as emissaries. But how would they know we’re here in the first place? Humanity has been leaking (or deliberately transmitting) radio waves out into space for roughly a century,

So an alien civilization running a SETI program with sensitive radio telescopes could detect us. But this radio bubble announcing our technological emergence, centered on the Earth and expanding out into space at light speed, is only around 200 light years across. That is a minuscule region of space in the galaxy as a whole, a disc 100,000 light years in diameter, and so even if the galaxy does contain other intelligent life forms, they would likely still be oblivious to our recent appearance. But although humanity has only been detectably civilized for a century, the Earth itself has been conspicuously alive for many hundreds of millions of years, and this links to one of the hottest topics in current astrobiology. Life on Earth, and specifically photosynthetic life such as plants and cyanobacteria that grow by absorbing the energy of sunlight and splitting water, has been releasing oxygen as a waste gas at such a high rate that it has built up in the atmosphere, first to just a few per cent, and today constituting a fifth of the Earth’s air. Oxygen is a very reactive gas, and the only reason it has been able to accumulate in the atmosphere is that it is constantly being replenished by living organisms. In fact, the presence of oxygen in the atmosphere is thought to be so unusual to the geochemistry of a planet that astrobiologists consider it to be a biosignature of life (specifically if oxygen and a reduced gas like methane are both present).

We are currently on the verge of building space-based telescopes that use spectroscopy to read the composition of the atmospheres of terrestrial exoplanets, and so survey the night sky for signs of life. And we’re only relative newcomers on the galactic scene. There’s nothing special about this exact moment in galactic history, and life on another planet could have evolved intelligence millions of years ago and used their own telescopes to look out for planets displaying the telltale sign of an oxygen-rich atmosphere. But apparently, as far as we can tell the fact that the Earth is obviously sporting biology has not prompted anyone to say hello.

This is a very curious observation, and to my mind could be down to two equally intriguing possibilities. The fact that Earth’s oxygen-rich atmosphere has apparently attracted no one’s attention may simply be because life is so rare that there is not a single other civilization in the galaxy with us to have their attention drawn. Or perhaps planets with an oxygen-rich atmosphere are so staggeringly common that the Earth just doesn’t stand out among the masses. In the first possibility we are solitary and lonely intelligent beings in the galaxy; in the second, life is absolutely rife in the cosmos. Both, to me, are equally profound realizations. And the most exciting aspect is that within your and my lifetime we will have launched our atmosphere-reading space telescopes and the science of astrobiology will have been able to tell which one is right.

What a time to be an intelligent life form on Earth!

Mystery of comet 67P's oxygen solved – providing new tool in search for alien life

Mystery of comet 67P's oxygen solved – providing new tool in search for alien life

Molecular oxygen surrounding comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko has long puzzled scientists.

Léa SurugueBy Léa Surugue

t's been one of the most puzzling phenomena identified in space in recent years, but now scientists have demonstrated how comets can produce oxygen and this could help in the search for life outside of Earth.

In 2015, a team of scientists had been studying the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko with the European Space Agency's Rosetta spacecraft. First observed in 1969, this comet belongs to the Jupiter Family comets, as its orbit is controlled by Jupiter's gravity.

This was an unexpected discovery. Indeed, molecular oxygen in space is highly unstable – oxygen molecules tend to pair up with hydrogen to make water, or with carbon to make carbon dioxide. Up to now, molecular oxygen had only been identified twice in space, in star-forming nebulas.

At the time, scientists had attempted to explain the phenomenon by proposing that the molecular oxygen on 67P might have thawed from its surface after having been frozen inside the comet at the time of its formation about 4.6 billion years ago.

But some scientists disagreed with this theory, highlighting that oxygen should nevertheless have reacted with other chemicals over such a long period of time.

Chemical engineering to study space

In a study now published in the journal Nature Communications, a team has come up with a new hypothesis for how molecular oxygen around 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is produced.

Lead study author Konstantinos P Giapis is not an astronomer. He is a professor of chemical engineering at California Institute of Technology, who's primary interest lies in finding out new ways to fabricate microprocessors in computers. In the research, his shows how the work he has been conducting for years can shed new light on comets' oxygen mystery.

"I started to take an interest in space and was looking for places where ions would be accelerated against surfaces," Giapis said. "After looking at measurements made on Rosetta's comet, in particular regarding the energies of the water molecules hitting the comet, it all clicked. What I've been studying for years is happening right here on this comet."

Having studied throughout his career how fast-moving molecules collide with surfaces and create chemical reactions, the scientist has shown experimentally, in his lab, that similar processes might be happening on the comet 67P.

ESA Comet 67PESA/Rosetta/MPS for OSIRIS Team MPS/UPD/LAM/IAA/SSO/INTA/UPM/DASP/IDA

He suggests that water vapour molecules might be streaming off the comet as it is heated by the Sun. These water molecules then become ionised (or charged) by ultraviolet light from the sun before being pushed back towards the comet by solar winds.

The molecules then hit the comet's surface – which contains oxygen bound in materials such as rust and sand – and pick up oxygen atoms from these surfaces, leading to the production of molecular oxygen.

Giapis explained: "This original chemistry mechanism is based on the seldom-considered class of Eley-Rideal reactions, which occur when fast-moving molecules, water in this case, collide with surfaces and extract atoms residing there, forming new molecules. All necessary conditions for such reactions exist on comet 67P."

The study's findings may provide an interesting tool for scientists looking for life outside Earth.Indeed, it is possible that some exoplanets may be producing oxygen in a similar fashion, without having life on their surface. This may influence how researchers search for signs of life on these planets in the future.

I just thought you would like to see these hot lips I found today. This formation of red lips is located in the Carena Constellation about 16,000 light years from Earth. The white star at the center of the red lips ring is a sun called V385 Carinae. Its about 35X the size of our own sun and the red lips were formed from the explosion of that sun. Or in other words, the inside of a sun has now become the outside.

Depending on the level of evolution and age of species, it would be possible for some species to be so high technologically that they could control a sun, or even cause it to explode with a special design like ruby lips.

It doesn't really matter if aliens made it on purpose, or if it was made by nature. Its just awesome knowing that hot lips are a thing in this universe.

What Was the Westall UFO? – A Theory and Some Evidence In Support

What Was the Westall UFO? – A Theory and Some Evidence In Support

Above image: Westall researcher Shane Ryan, from the “Podcast UFO” website.

“This is all an insoluble mystery to me,” said I.  “It grows darker instead of clearer.”
“On the contrary,” he answered, “it clears every instant.  I only require a few missing links to have an entirely connected case.”

–Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes, in The Sign of the Four

A few days ago, I felt almost like Holmes.  The 50-year-old mystery of the mass UFO sighting over Westall High School, in the Melbourne (Australia) suburb of Clayton, seemed to be clearing every instant.  Add “a few missing links,” and one of the most important and instructive sightings in UFO history would yield its secrets.

I posted on Westall four weeks ago, in my review of the 2010 Australian documentary “Westall ’66.”  Until I watched the film, I’d never heard of the Westall UFO.  It’s indeed flown under the radar–pun more or less intended–as Shane Ryan, the Canberra teacher and investigator featured in the documentary, put it in a 2013 interview.  Jerry Clark’s monumental UFO Encyclopedia, the second edition of which was published in 1998 and includes six articles by Bill Chalker on the Australian UFO scene, has not a word to say about Westall. But now the Dr. Watson feeling is creeping over me.  As if Westall has depths I’d barely suspected.

In my post, I suggested a theory of what happened at the high school that day in 1966, near the beginning of the Australian school year.  Here are my thoughts, in a slightly more developed and explicit form:

Yes, something unusual was seen in the sky late on the morning of April 6, autumn in the southern hemisphere.  It may have been a weather balloon or it may have been a “target drogue” used by the Australian military to practice air-to-air firing, as two explanations floated at the time had it.  Possibly both were involved.

Whatever the object was, it wasn’t especially dramatic.  If you and I had been there, we might not even have noticed it.

The witnesses’ view of the object seems to have been blocked for a time by the tall pines of the area called “the Grange,” just to the south of the school.  But no, the UFO was not seen to land among those trees; and the idea that it was responsible for flattened areas of grass in the Grange–which one UFOlogist who investigated the sighting said could have been caused by strong winds over the previous week–was conjecture after the fact.

Yes, there was excitement among the students at Westall High (which included the grades that we’d now think of as middle school), and it seems to have been concentrated among the younger kids.  The excitement was apparently enough to call forth a special assembly, at which Westall’s stern headmaster Frank Samberle made sure the boys and girls knew there are no flying saucers, and what they saw was just a weather balloon.

But no, the mass stampede from the school into the Grange, so vividly depicted in “Westall ’66”–“all the students were just running all over the place, hysterical”; “like a whole lot of zebras being terrified by crocodiles,” to quote two of the witnesses–didn’t happen.

But then how to account for the memories of the dozens of intelligent, articulate, obviously sincere–not to mention courageous–men and women who’d been Westall students in the 1960s, whom Shane Ryan interviewed in the course of his investigation from 2005 onward?  Several of these people tell their stories in “Westall ’66,” and it’s hard not to come away with the impression of a dramatic, multiply witnessed “close encounter of the second kind,” suppressed by military authorities in collusion with the Westall headmaster.

My hypothesis: these recollections are heavily tinctured with memories or fantasies of forbidden adolescent activities at the Grange—a favored place for “illicit smoking and steamy liaisons,” according to Ryan—for which the UFO and its suppression became a tangible representation.

Or, as I sometimes like to put it:  the stimulus, the trigger for the UFO was something in the sky.  The UFO came from inside.

The mystery of that UFO is a mystery of the human soul.  The twists of human memory–not random, not unmeaningful–are an essential part of that mystery.

It’s a testament to Shane Ryan’s open-mindedness and generosity that, despite our considerable differences of interpretation, he reached out to me and guided me toward rich sources of information.  These include the page of the Facebook group Westall Flying Saucer Incident–an excellent resource which I’d encourage all my readers to join–and the treasure trove of data posted to the Project 1947 website by veteran Australian UFOlogist Keith Basterfield.  This in turn led me to posts on Basterfield’s “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena – Scientific Research” blog, arguing for the Westall UFO’s having been a high-altitude balloon and insisting on the crucial distinction between 1966 sources on the incident vs. post-2005 recollections of it.

What Was the Westall UFO? – A Theory and Some Evidence In Support Australian UFOlogist Keith Basterfield.

Thanks to the gracious support of these two researchers, I’ve found much data that “confirms my diagnosis, as you doctors express it” (Holmes to Watson, in The Sign of the Four).

Also some that goes against it.  But we’ll get to that presently.

“Pro” item #1:  Basterfield’s notes from a tape recording, transferred to CD by the Special Collections of the library of the University of Arizona (Tucson), of Dr. James E. McDonald’s interview with Westall science teacher Andrew Greenwood, 28 June 1967.  (Basterfield, Source 15.)  This is a precious resource: a near-contemporary account of the incident by an adult observer.  Nearly all the testimony in “Westall ’66” is from people who were students at the time, and what they remembered after a 40-year interval.  With a few possible exceptions soon to be noted, Greenwood was the only grownup who actually saw the UFO.

“AG said that a girl student raced into class saying ‘Flying saucer outside.’  She left the room, then 5-10 minutes later it was morning recess time, so AG went outside to take a look. … He couldn’t see the object at first due to the lack of contrast (the kids pointed it out to him).”  The object was gray against a blue-gray sky; “if it wasn’t pointed out to you, you might not see it.”  (This was the explanation Greenwood gave for the Dandenong Journal‘s inability to find anyone in the area who’d noticed it.)

“The object was airborne at all times,” and although “at one stage the object disappeared behind a tall row of pine trees,” there’s no hint that Greenwood saw it land or come anywhere close to doing that.  The landed UFO, the “close encounter of the second kind,” belongs to the psychological rather than the physical reality of the episode.

(Much of Australian UFOlogist Bill Chalker’s argument against a “balloon” explanation for Westall loses its force, once we doubt that the thing was ever seen to come to earth.)

Two other teachers witnessed at least part of the sighting, according to what Greenwood told McDonald: a phys ed teacher named Jeanette Muir, an English teacher named Claude Miller.  Significantly, Greenwood made no mention of Barbara Robins, a chemistry teacher who appears in “Westall ’66” as having taken multiple photos of the object, only to have her camera confiscated by Samblebe in the company of two uniformed men from outside the school.  (We’ll come back to her in a moment.)

“AG saw students go over the fence while he watched the object.”  Yes, a few students must have done that.  But if anything like the stampede portrayed in “Westall ’66” had taken place, that surely would have been Greenwood’s most vivid memory of the incident, given that he was among those charged with maintaining order at the school.

Also unmentioned in Greenwood’s testimony to McDonald:  the visit paid to his home one week later by two Royal Australian Air Force officers, which he was to describe to Shane Ryan many years later.  These officers threatened Greenwood under the Official Secrets Act, threatened to spread rumors he was an alcoholic (“Westall ’66”), threatened him with the loss of his teaching career if he talked about what he’d seen (Ryan in the 2013 interview).  More than 40 years after the event, speaking to Ryan, Greenwood remembered that ominous visit.  Speaking with McDonald hardly more than a year afterward, he’d evidently forgotten it.  Or else he didn’t think it was worth mentioning.

1966 was Greenwood’s first year teaching at Westall. Apparently it was also his last.  (In Australia, with its southern-hemisphere seasons, the academic year is nearly the same as the calendar year, running “from late January or early February to early or mid-December.”  December-January is summer vacation.)  When he spoke with McDonald in June 1967, he was teaching science at a place called Haileybury College.

It’s hard not to think that there were substantial tensions between Greenwood and Samblebe, who was then in his first year as headmaster (Basterfield, Source 24)–under considerable pressure, no doubt, to establish his authority–and that the UFO served as vehicle for these tensions.  To which the fledgling teacher soon fell victim.

“Pro” item #2: the chemistry teacher Barbara Robins.  On May 9, I posted a query about her on the Westall Flying Saucer Incident Facebook page, and received the following reply from Shane Ryan:

“Several witnesses recall that it was Andrew Greenwood who took the photos, and that the camera was confiscated from him. Andrew says that it was not him. Barbara, unfortunately, is now unwell, and when she was interviewed several years ago by ‘Westall ’66’ director and writer Rosie Jones, she could no longer recall any details of the Westall Incident – only that she had been there that year and that something had happened. So, although there are some witness memories of a camera being taken away, this has not been substantiated.”

To me, it’s completely inconceivable that Barbara Robins would have forgotten so dramatic and outrageous a happening as this, her camera seized by uniformed strangers with her headmaster’s collusion.  I have to suppose that the “confiscated camera”–Greenwood’s? Robins’?–is another feature to be assigned to the psychological, not historical, truth of the incident.

(And the other two teachers mentioned by Greenwood, Jeanette Muir and Claude Miller?  In his reply to my May 9 query, Ryan wrote that “Jeanette died before she could be interviewed.“  Miller also?)

“Pro” item #3:  Basterfield’s “Source 2” is a report form of the Victorian Flying Saucer Research Society, filled out on 7 April 1966 by or on behalf of a Westall student named Joy Tighe.  It describes “circular 2 UFOs flying in various directions”at a 45-degree elevation, and speaks of there having been “flattened waist high grass for 10 yds diameter 600 yds from school.”  The UFO (singular?) “turned edge & disappeared fast.”  Joy Tighe plainly assumed that the flattened grass was caused by one or both of the UFOs.

But if she or any of her schoolmates thought they had seen it come down–wouldn’t her report have made some reference to that?

“Pro” item #4: the mysterious “Tanya.”

She’s remembered by one of the women interviewed in “Westall ’66” as a girl who’d raced after the landed UFO in the Grange, got to it first, saw it landed on the ground.  She went back to the school afterward but somehow suffered a breakdown, was taken off in an ambulance.  “That was the last time I ever saw her.”

(“I was trying to keep up when suddenly Tanya came racing back towards me, petrified,” runs an even more dramatic version of the story that appeared in April 2016 in the Woman’s Day magazine, the link provided on the Westall Facebook page.  “She was screaming and crying, talking gibberish.  She ran straight past me like I wasn’t there. … I watched as paramedics tried to get Tanya into the ambulance.  She didn’t want to go and put up a fight.  I could still hear her screams as it drove away.  That was the last time I saw her.”)

A query posted to the Facebook page on April 9 asks “what happened to the girl who ran ahead of her friends and got right up to one of the crafts … fainted, was taken away by ambulance and was never seen again.”  There’s a remarkable response from one Lance Brown:

“In that 2 month period I’d been at school Tanya had been quite notorious to say the least. But when she vanished I didn’t relate it to the ufo, more her wild ways.”

Questions posed to this Lance Brown, by Basterfield and by Ryan, seem to have gotten no further responses.  My guess is that he figured he’d already said too much, and clammed up.  There’s indeed a suppression that operates in UFO matters, but not necessarily of their unearthly, otherworldly aspects.  It may be precisely their all-too-earthly aspect, like what the UFO stands for in the fate of this “notorious” young lady–“much faster” than the other girls, as one witness put it–that calls for concealment.

Thus far the evidence that “confirms my diagnosis, as you doctors express it.” It’s a fine diagnosis, don’t you think?

But alas!  It was T. H. Huxley (1825-95) who defined “the great tragedy of science” as “the slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact.”  And there’s other evidence that isn’t quite so cooperative.

Evidence that suggests that what I’ve assumed to be a legend, gestating through the four decades that elapsed between when the UFO supposedly appeared over Westall High School and when Shane Ryan began his inquiries, was in full-blown existence by the summer–sorry, in Australia it’s the winter–of 1966.  At the latest.

This evidence appeared in a school publication called The Clayton Calendar for “Term One,” 1966, reproduced as Basterfield’s “Source 10.”  A photograph of the publication’s cover, taken from Wikipedia, is posted below.

I’ll talk about this evidence two weeks from now.  And see whether my “beautiful hypothesis” is really slain, or if it might respond to resuscitation.

UFO moving at unreal speed caught by Drone at 400 ft over New Port Richey, Florida

A drone enthusiast sent his drone up about 400 ft to film the 1000 acres fire burning about 5 miles from his home in New Port Richey, Florida, on May 6, 2017.

Upon reviewing the footage on his big screen TV it just happened that he pause the video to see an unidentified flying object.

Checking the video again, by doing play, pause and rewind he saw the UFO coming into picture from the right side moving within 0.3 seconds to the left before it disappeared.

He was able to take 5 still images of the UFO showing that the object really moved at unreal speed.

Mysterious Deaths and the Black Eyed Kids

Mysterious Deaths and the Black Eyed Kids

One very scary phenomenon that has captured the imagination, instilled fear, and generated a large amount of unsettling reports over the years is that of the menacing, extremely creepy Black Eyed Kids, also called simply BEKs, along with their counterparts the Black Eyed Adults. While each and every case is truly bizarre and unnerving, others go even farther, showing that not only are these mysterious entities good at scaring us, but that they on some occasions kill. Scattered amongst the many, many reports of encounters with Black Eyed Kids are those that seem to show a rather malevolent tendency for witnesses to meet with tragic misfortune and death, further casting a wicked shadow over them.

Black Eyed Kids have been reported for decades, and generally follow a certain frightening pattern. The children, usually in pairs but not always, appear mostly in rural or sparsely populated areas. They typically appear as normal children from afar, but a closer inspection will reveal that they have a sickly, pale pallor to them, and that their eyes are completely dark pools of black, without any discernible iris, akin to the eyes of a shark. Although the tales may vary in their details, these mysterious entities are almost always described as exuding an intense wave of dread and panic, and their eyes are said to have a certain disturbing, sinister, and hypnotic quality to them.

Almost every report of BEKs involve the children begging to be let into homes or vehicles. These requests often start out innocent and polite enough, usually innocently asking for a ride or to use a phone, but not surprisingly due to their off-putting black eyes and clinging aura of fear the homeowner or driver will be reluctant to comply. This will cause the strange kids to become increasingly demanding, desperate, and foul-tempered, sometimes even violent, such as banging or scratching on house or car doors. Some witnesses claim that the Black Eyed Kids have the ability to sow confusion and addle the minds of their victims, possibly to make them more suggestible and inclined to bend to their wishes. One commonality to every report is that they cannot force their way in unless specifically invited, and in most cases when the menacing children eventually give up and leave the victim is left exasperated, confused, and with the profound sense that they have just avoided some sort of dire fate.

While this may all seem terrifying enough, the victim is usually left in one piece and none the worse for wear, but this is not always the case, and some more chilling accounts seem to point to these enigmatic creatures having the potential ability to do great harm. For instance, there are reports that seem to answer the question of just what exactly happens if one is to actually give in to their demands and let them in. One such report was apparently e-mailed by a frightened woman in a quiet, rural town in Vermont to the website Week in Weird, in which she claims to have let the kids inside, with disastrous consequences.

The woman claimed that in 2015 she had been sleeping at home with her husband one night when there was a sudden, very loud knock on the front door of the small rural home at approximately 2 a.m. The woman at first thought it was possibly someone who had broken down or gotten stuck on the nearby unpaved road, as there was a snowstorm raging outside at the time. A look outside the window showed that the house’s motion triggered light was on and that there were indeed footprints in the snow, but there was no sign of any car on the road nor even any evidence that any had recently driven by.

The woman woke her husband and they went downstairs to investigate, where they saw that someone was casting a shadow from outside of the front door. Still thinking it was someone in trouble, they warily opened the door to see two young children of around 8 years of age, a boy and a girl, standing in the snow outside. The two children were described as not at all dressed for winter and sporting outdated, odd- looking haircuts, and both were gazing down at the ground. Interestingly, rather than worry for them and offer help, the couple immediately felt deeply unnerved and somewhat repulsed, and rather than letting them in out of the cold merely asked where their parents were, to which the two creepy kids replied “They’ll be here soon.”

Despite the unnerving quality of the kids and their odd demeanor, the woman and her husband nevertheless became convinced that they must have gotten lost in the woods, and considering that they were woefully inappropriately dressed for the increasingly frigid weather, the husband and wife guided them in out of the snowstorm despite a strong nagging instinct at the back of their minds not to do so. Once inside, the kids were prepared something hot to drink and asked about what had happened to them and where they had come from, but every question was responded to with the kids simply saying, “Our parents will be here soon.” The woman began to notice that their voices had a sort of strange melodic quality to them, and also that for such young children they seemed to be not perturbed or nervous in the slightest to be in a stranger’s house, which somehow added to a growing sense of menace and fear she was feeling. There was also the fact that the family’s cats, normally very friendly, were now hiding, and when she went to pet one of them it hissed and growled at her. The witness described what happened next thus:

When I walked back into the living room the kids were sitting on the couch as still as can be but my husband was holding his head in his hands. I asked him what wrong and he just said that he felt very dizzy all of a sudden but that he was fine. I turned back to the children to give them their cocoa, but when they looked at me I gasped. It took everything inside of me not to drop the mugs and run away. When they looked at me their eyes were completely black. They had no whites just giant black pupils.

When they saw that I was scared they stood up and asked if they could use the bathroom. I tried to be as composed as I could be and showed them down the hall. They went into the bathroom together and I hurried back to my husband to ask him if he had seen their eyes. He had seen them too and said that it looked like his brothers badly bruised eyes after a car accident. We were in the middle of talking about whose children they could be when my husbands nose started to bleed. He’d never had nosebleeds as long as I had known him. I just knew inside myself that this had something to do with the kids in the bathroom and I started crying while I ran to get [my husband] some tissues.

At this point the woman claims that the power in the house abruptly cut out left them in darkness, which provoked a short scream from the husband. She then ran back towards the living room and was startled to see the two kids standing motionless in the hallway. After a moment of heavy silence, one of the Black Eyed Children announced “Our parents are here,” after which they went to the front door, opened it, and walked back out into the snowstorm without closing it behind them. Looking outside, the woman could see through the snow a dark car out on the road with two tall men dressed all in black, who stared at the house before getting into their vehicle and driving off. The power would blink back on not long after.

Although this is already quite disturbing, things would only get worse for the couple. In the ensuing months three of their cats went missing without a trace and another was found one day dead in a pool of blood in the middle of the living room floor, apparently killed by some sort of massive internal hemorrhaging. Even worse, the husband became afflicted with constant mysterious nosebleeds and was also diagnosed with a rare form of very aggressive and terminal skin cancer. The woman herself also claimed that she was experiencing frequent nosebleeds that had no discernible cause as well as sudden spells of dizziness, and that her health had dramatically deteriorated since her meeting with the Black Eyed Kids. She ends the mail with a haunting message, saying:

I know that all of this is because I let the Black Eyed Children into my home. We’ve told everyone we could about the strange kids that showed up that night but no one else saw them and some laugh at how scared we were of the “Mennonite kids” but we know what we saw. I wish my husband had never opened the door. Feel free to publish this as a warning to others about the Black Eyed Kids. My advice would be to lock your doors, call the police, and wait for morning. Don’t make the same mistake that I did.

This particular report spurred other people to come in with their own reports of Black Eyed Kids causing physical harm or death. In one of the accounts, it is claimed that a friend had taken a road trip to Arcata, California to visit a friend and along the way he had stopped at a bar to have a drink before retiring to his hotel. While he was there, he allegedly struck up a conversation with an attractive woman working at the bar, who ended up inviting him back to her place at the end of the night. He ended up leaving his car there at the bar and going with the woman to her rather secluded house, which caused him to get a little nervous as he had no idea where he was and the area seemed rather remote and surrounded by wilderness.

Nevertheless, he went through with going into the residence and the two of them had sex. However, at some point during the night the man got up to go to the kitchen for a glass of water and claims that he saw several “small, frightening-looking children” milling about and wandering around aimlessly, and that he had been startled to see that they all had pitch black eyes. In the morning, the woman from the night before kicked the man out and made him walk the whole way back to where he had left his car. In addition to being quite understandably unsettled by the whole bizarre experience, the previously healthy and athletic young man then allegedly was diagnosed with severe bladder cancer and died within 6 months. According to the one who gave the report, the friend had insisted up to the end that the Black Eyed Kids he had seen and that mysterious woman, possibly their caretaker, had been to blame for his condition.

Black Eyed Kids have apparently been responsible for other mysterious deaths as well. In 1998 there was a report by a man named Jon Northwood, who claims that he was on his way to his car in a parking garage after a meeting, when one of the other men who had been at the meeting, named Doug, begged him to drive him around the block a few times. Jon asked Doug why he was so desperate to go drive around the block, to which the visibly shaken man claimed that there was a group of weird looking kids hanging around his own car and he wanted to go away until they left. Apparently they had asked for a ride earlier, but Doug had refused and they had not left since. Despite the oddity of his request, Jon let Doug in and when they approached the car in question there was indeed a group of three decidedly creepy looking kids milling about it dressed in what appeared to be gothic style clothing. There was also an abrupt feeling of stifling panic and irrational fear that overcame them, as if something terrible was about to happen.

Oddly, as they passed Jon claims that he had the sudden, uncontrollable compulsion to stop his car. When he did so, the youngest of the kids, a girl who appeared to be around 10 years old, came right up to the vehicle and said innocently “It’s scary out there all alone, and we just wanted a ride home.” It was at this point that they could see that the kids had eyes that were solid pitch black, which was jarring enough to snap Jon out of his trance. He launched into action, putting the car in reverse and reportedly sending the vehicle squealing back to get away from them as the kids gave chase. They sped through the parking garage and managed to make it to the first floor, where they allegedly found that one of the kids had inexplicably managed to make it there ahead of them. They managed to roar past the boy and go tearing off down the road, after which the strong sense of suffocating dread they had felt subsided.

A short while later, they got up the courage to go back and see if the kids were still there or not, and pleasantly found them to be nowhere to be seen. Doug thanked Jon and got into his car to head home, pulling out to drive off with Jon right behind him. At this point he claimed that the insidious sensation of menace came crashing down upon him once again, and when Doug rushed through a yellow light his car was apparently hit by a speeding truck, killing him. When Jon looked back he said he could see the three Black Eyed Children standing not far away in the shadows, as if watching the whole deadly spectacle.

Sometimes it’s not the Black Eyed Kids, but rather Black Eyed Adults that kill, and another witness claims that these entities killed her boyfriend. The woman, who calls herself Esme, claims that in 2012 she had been living in a rural part of Bristol, England with her boyfriend. One day she claims that they had headed out for work at around 10:30 a.m. and were walking along a secluded path when they came across 4 very odd looking people coming towards them. Three were very pale, with totally black eyes, and skin that “didn’t seem to fit them,” while another was reported as being a very beautiful black woman with normal eyes. One of them, a young man of around 18 years of age, was described as having a “troll-like underbite” with what looked like protruding fangs. Oddly, the strange group was managing to completely avoid stepping in any puddles from a recent heavy rain even without looking down at their feet. Esme would say of the surreal sight:

The troll-like teenager looked dead ahead with a really angry expression on his face, and the girl looked happy but vacant, like she was hypnotized, just staring into space walking in front of him. Their clothes were modern, waterproof coats and walking boots. Apart from the girl who wasn’t wearing walking boots like she’d intended to come to the woods, she was wearing flat pumps which nobody in their right mind would wear on that path in flood season. When they had passed us we looked at each other immediately and said at the same time, “that was so weird!”. We both felt the strangeness emanating off of them, like a total sense of foreboding.

Esme goes on to claim that exactly one year after this strange encounter, her boyfriend died by drowning in a flooded part of the river adjacent to the path they had been on. According to police, apparently the boyfriend had gone in to save a girl he called “Sally,” even though no one else was there. Some locals tried to help him, but he had purportedly refused to be rescued until he rescued the girl. He would eventually drown, and when authorities searched they found only one body and no sign of this “Sally” he had been looking for, concluding that he had probably hallucinated her since he was a known drug user. Was this a vision implanted in his head by those strange entities they had encountered the previous year or merely a drug-induced hallucination? We will probably never know.

What are the Black Eyed Kids and What do they want? There have been many ideas on their nature, such as that they are some sort of demons, aliens, ghosts, or even vampires. Others think they have a connection with the equally enigmatic Men in Black, perhaps even being their children, or that they are something else totally beyond our comprehension. Still others think it is all mere urban legend or spooky lore. No one really knows for sure, but one thing we do know is that creepy reports of encounters with the Black Eyed Kids keep coming in and show no sign of waning. As disturbing and freaky as many of these accounts are, it is interesting to note that sometimes they are even more threatening, leading to disease and death. We may never know just what lies behind the Black Eyed Kids phenomenon, but deadly accounts such as these show that if they are real then they are possibly even more sinister than they already seem.

Rot From The Stars: “The Molten Meteor”, and Real Life Blobs From Outer Space

Rot From The Stars: “The Molten Meteor”, and Real Life Blobs From Outer Space

In 1958, a rather atypical horror film appeared before moviegoing audiences. It featured no vampires, wolf men, or creatures strewn together from the parts of the deceased, brought back to life by mad science.

No, this monster was just a mound of carnivorous jelly from space… and the more it ate, the bigger it got.

The Blob, which features what is still regarded as one of the most unusual movie monsters of all time, tells the tale of an alien gob of jelly from space that begins to feed on the citizens of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, growing larger throughout the film. Originally titled The Molten Meteor, it is said that one of the film’s actresses, Kay Linaker, was overheard referring to the film’s extraterrestrial subject simply as, “the blob”, and apparently the name stuck.

But where, precisely, did the idea for the film come from?

According to Den of Geek, “Accounts seem to vary as to who came up with the idea for The Blob.” One story attributes its conception to Irvine H. Millgate, who according to Kim Newman, wanted to “make a movie monster that is not a guy dressed up in a suit… some kind of a form that’s never been done before.”

Or in the case of “The Molten Meteor”, perhaps something with no definite form whatsoever!

After several days of brainstorming, the idea finally emerged that a mineral that “can absorb your flesh” would be a good idea, and the rest, as they say, is history.

There is, however, an interesting real-life Fortean connection here, which bears remarkable similarity to the story outlined in The Blob and its successive remakes over the years.

In Welsh folklore, there had been an unusual phenomenon known as “pwdre ser” (meaning, essentially, “rot from the stars”). This, according to some accounts, was believed to be the literal star-stuff that fell to Earth after a meteor was seen streaking through the sky, after which a gelatinous slime would occasionally be found in fields amidst grass and undergrowth.

Star Jelly?

Reports of this “star slime” date back to at least the 14th century, and although many descriptions describe it as apparently being an earthly substance, in its various names it nonetheless appears to associate the the mystery jellies with shooting stars; English names used since the Middle Ages include star-falling (also “star-fallen”), star-jelly, star-shot, star-slime, star-slough, star-slubber, and star-slutch.

The unusual, and often sudden appearances of large amounts of “mystery slime” have been the stuff of Fortean fodder for decades, with a number of notable incidents involving strange deposits of slimy material of unknown origin over fairly large areas. Whether this is the same phenomenon as the “pwdre ser” of yore is uncertain, as many of the modern “slime rains” and other anomalous falls are often attributed to industrial activities in the general vicinity of the incidents.

One notable example occurred in 1979 near Frisco, Texas, when Sybil Christian found several purplish colored mounds of jelly on her lawn (interestingly, this discovery was made coinciding with the height of the Perseid meteor showers that year). The explanation behind the blobs on Christian’s lawn, it was believed at the time, lay behind a variety of caustic soda used to clean lead impurities at a battery processing plant nearby; however, some have contested this explanation, asking how mounds of the soda-byproduct would have made their way all the way from the factory outside town, and onto Christian’s lawn.

While even some of the more famous “mystery blob” reports like the Frisco, Texas incident appear to have been connected loosely with meteors, the question remains: did any of these real-life reports of “molten meteors” help inspire the making of The Blob?

According to a 2009 San Francisco Gate article, there is indeed a more definitive connection between the so-called “pwdre ser” and The Blob films:

Gelatinous meteors, also known as the Pwdre Ser phenomenon, are rare but not unknown. On September 26, 1950, Patrolmen John Collins and Joseph Keenan saw one of these things land at the corner of Vare Boulevard and 26th Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The light-emitting blob was also observed by Sgt. Joseph Cook and Patrolman James Cooper and was seen oozing its way up a telephone pole. This incident became the basis for Steve McQueen’s 1958 horror movie, The Blob.

Although the article quoted here (featured as part of a regular column called “UFO Round Up”) was taken offline, an archived version can be found here.

If accurate, the incident it describes does seem to confirm what many suspected all along: that one of the weirdest sci-fi monsters of all time has further history in the annals of Ufology and Forteana. With little doubt, old Charles Fort himself probably would have found this little historical footnote rather amusing.

World’s Best UFO and Alien Hotspots Revealed

World’s Best UFO and Alien Hotspots Revealed

UFO hotspots

Spotting aliens can be tricky, but heading to the ET hot spots will give someone the best chance of getting a close encounter.

Some people would not want to meet extraterrestrials, but others consider reaching to beings beyond Earth a lifelong dream.

The following are places known for UFO sightings.

Area 51 in Neva, U.S.

Many UFO enthusiasts believe that the remains of a UFO involved in the famous Roswell Incident are hidden inside Area 51, a highly classified Air Force base.

The Nullarbor, Australia

Many travelers in this Australian Outback have claimed UFOs chased them while driving down the remote area’s empty roads.

The Molyobka Triangle in Russia

Also known as the M Triangle, the place is one of the UFO hotspots in the world with locals in the area have claimed to notice strange lights and symbols in the sky as well as seeing translucent beings.  The M Triangle is located in the Ural mountains of Russia.

Roswell, New Mexico in the U.S.

UFO spotting has never been exciting than in Roswell for most alien enthusiasts. The site is where an alleged alien spaceship had crashed in 1947. Shady government officials allegedly transported the remains and debris of the incident to Area 51.

Warminster, England

The place boasts the mysterious stone circles of Avebury and Stonehenge in Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire. In the 1960s and 1970s, Warminster got the attention of the world when strange sounds were heard in the area. UFO fanatics from around the world visited the area, which has also become famous recently with unexplained crop circles.

El Enladrillado in Chile

After a flurry of alien sightings had taken place in El Enladrillado, Chile’s tourist board formed the first UFO trail of the country. The 30 km trail passes through the Andes, from where it spotted until it allegedly landed at El Enladrillado.

Wycliffe Well in Australia

Many called the Wycliffe Well as the UFO capital of Australia. Locals have been claiming to have spotted lights in the sky frequently.

Bonnybridge, Scotland

UFO experts have been calling the location of Bonnybridge as The Falkirk Triangle, which is located between Stirling, Fife and the outskirts of Edinburg. More than 300 sightings are reported each year around this area.

The US Military's Secretive X-37B Space Plane: 6 Surprising Facts

The US Military's Secretive X-37B Space Plane: 6 Surprising Facts

Introduction

Credit: NASA Marshall Space Flight Center

Introduction

The U.S. Air Force's X-37B space plane has been zipping around Earth since May 2015 while it performs a number of hush-hush activities. The current mission is the fourth for the robotic X-37B, which is also known as the Orbital Test Vehicle (OTV). The other three OTV flights launched in April 2010, March 2011 and December 2012. Here are a few surprising facts about the military space plane.

It's tiny

Credit: Boeing

1. It's tiny

The X-37B looks a lot like NASA's iconic space shuttle, but the two types of vehicles don't resemble each other in size. The X-37B is just 29 feet (8.8 meters) long, with a wingspan of 15 feet (4.6 m). The now-retired space shuttle orbiters, by contrast, were 122 feet (37 m) long, and measured more than 78 feet (24 m) from wingtip to wingtip. Two X-37Bs could fit inside the shuttle's cavernous payload bay. Indeed, the X-37B's designers originally envisioned the shuttle carrying the smaller space plane to orbit but ultimately decided that launching the X-37B atop a rocket would be more economical. The X-37B currently rides to orbit aboard United Launch Alliance's Atlas V rocket. Like the space shuttle, the X-37B lands on a runway, plane-style, but does everything autonomously (in contrast to the piloted shuttle, which usually carried a crew of seven astronauts).

Its missions are classified

2. Its missions are classified

Although the Air Force has disclosed some of the payloads that have flown to orbit on the X-37B, most of the space plane's onboard gear is classified, as are the details of its orbital activities. This secrecy has led to some speculation that the vehicle is some sort of space weapon, perhaps one designed to take out or capture satellites. However, the Air Force has always denied this notion, insisting that the X-37B is just testing out technologies for future spacecraft, and carrying various experiments up to space and back. Some of these technologies being tested may be sensors and other equipment for future spy satellites, outside experts have said.

It has NASA roots

Credit: Boeing

3. It has NASA roots

The X-37 program started in 1999 with NASA, which initially planned to develop two separate vehicles: an Approach and Landing Test Vehicle (ALTV), and an Orbital Vehicle (OV). But NASA transferred X-37 development to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in 2004, at which point it became a classified program. In 2006, the Air Force announced it would develop its own X-37 vehicle, which it dubbed the X-37B, or OTV. The design of the space plane was based heavily on the original OV, which was never built. (DARPA did construct and test the ALTV, however.) Boeing has been the primary contractor for the X-37B program dating back to its inception in 1999. To date, the company has apparently built two X-37B space planes for the Air Force. (Two different vehicles have flown the program's four space missions.)

The missions are incredibly long

Credit: United Launch Alliance

4. The missions are incredibly long

The Air Force's X-37B fact sheet states that the space plane is designed to spend up to 270 days in orbit at a time. However, the vehicle has already zoomed past that limit multiple times. The first X-37B mission, known as OTV-1, stayed aloft for just 225 days. But OTV-2 and OTV-3 lasted 469 days and 674 days, respectively. OTV-4 circled Earth for a record-shattering 718 days before it landed on May 7, 2017. This longevity may be a key part of the X-37B. After all, engineers testing technologies for future satellites want to see how this gear behaves in the space environment for long periods of time, experts have said.

You can see it from the ground

5. You can see it from the ground

Though the Air Force doesn't disclose the X-37B's precise orbit, keen-eyed amateur astronomers have managed to track the vehicle from the ground — and so can you, thanks to their efforts. Check out Space.com’s satellite tracker to see where the X-37B is overhead during a mission. The view won't be dramatic; the space plane usually looks like a star of middling brightness moving across the sky.

Future versions might be coming

Credit: AIAA/Grantz/Boeing

6. Future versions might be coming

The current version of the X-37 may not be the last to reach space. In 2011, Boeing representatives announced that they were considering developing a larger variant called the X-37C, which could carry up to six astronauts to and from the International Space Station (ISS). In addition, an engineering team led by former NASA astronaut Stephen Robinson has proposed using a modified version of the X-37B as an ISS emergency-evacuation vehicle. But this is just a concept at the moment, and there's no indication that Boeing is investigating this "astronaut ambulance" variant.

IS DE WEDERKOMST VAN JEZUS AANSTAANDE ? ( VIDEO )

IS DE WEDERKOMST VAN JEZUS AANSTAANDE ? ( VIDEO )

tron4.jpg

BALANCING ENERGY

The cube is an image of God's energy flowing through Metatron to all the many parts of creation, and Metatron works hard to ensure that the energy flows in the proper balance so that all aspects of nature will be in harmony, believers say.

"Metatron’s Cube helps us realize the harmony and balance of nature," writes VanDen Eynden in "Metatron." "Since it depicts an equilibrium in the six directions represented within it. ... Metatron’s Cube can be used as a visual focal point to connect with the archangel, or it can be used as a concentration tool for meditations that promote peace and balance. Place an image of the cube anywhere you wish to be reminded of the archangel’s loving, balancing presence."

UFO spotted in Paris and other cities around the globe

UFO spotted in Paris and other cities around the globe

SECURETEAM10

Last week, we told you about the secret tunnels on the moon. Is it possible that aliens built these structures? Secureteam10, a YouTube channel that discusses UFOs and other alien-related phenomena, seems to think so.

And now this popular conspiracy theorist believes that there are UFOs flying over France. One of his many followers emailed him a video of the sighting.

It appears to be a cigar-shaped spaceship with blinking beams of light. Tyler Glockner, the man who runs the channel, posted a video discussing the sighting. Then Glockner posted a follow-up video to about the similarities between the sightings in France and two other countries.

Watch the video for yourself below (or click here to see it). Do you think it's a hoax or something else?

As Glockner stated, the 2010 incident in China shut down an airport. Some Chinese people believe it was a U.S. missile or some other man-made device. The media picked up the story but the investigations didn't provide conclusive answers. The sighting in Austrailia was a report from 2014 that Glockner posted when he started the channel.

What do you think? You have to admit, the structures that flew over France, China and Austrailia all look very similar. Is this a sporadic hoax that has been going on for the past seven years? Or are these actual sightings of aliens?

This large fish may have been a visiting alien species that wanted to mingle with a species similar to its own, only to get caught and eaten as food. The species has a sign of intelligences...tattoos covering 100% of its body. Normal non intelligent animals do not.

I can see fern like designs, and a shield and a strange creature on top. This style of design if more European than the tribal designs of the Philippines. The shield and creature is like a coat of arms, which identifies the honor of the family and what its famous for. Below these coat of arms are usually latin and yes, the writing below does have similarities to ancient lateen (the backwards E). Also note, the creatures head is at the top of the shield, its hind quarters like a lion on the right side of the top of the shield, its two hands and arms...one on each side of the shield...as indicated in the photo directly below.

Sadly, if this was an intelligent alien visiting Earth, its first contact with humans didn't end well. Aqua intelligent species would be very difficult for humanity to communicate with, let alone believe in, but they do exist. Stories of mermaids almost a thousand years old? Stories that last the test of time, always have some truth too them.

A fish with strange yet intricate tattoo designs in its body was found by the fishermen in Mindanao.

TATTOO – A fish was discovered by the fishermen of Mindanao and found out that there were strange and bizarre tattoos on its body.

Accordingly  to the post of GMA News on their Facebook page, the fish was caught by the fishermen from Lopez Jaena in Misamis Occidental.

The photo of the strange fish went viral and sparked different theories and conclusions from the people of the online community.

Whatever may the reason be as to how the fish got the design on its body, nobody knows. But maybe, it is a sign perhaps that something is wrong with our ocean.

This UFO was seen on a sky cam and it was seen for over 5 minutes. Such sky cams are extremely good tools for observing to see if there is a UFO in the frame. I too go through live sky cams, as I did this morning, looking for UFOs. Its fun, its easy, and sometimes you get lucky. Not to mention, you can be in a 100 different places in just a few minutes.

Eyewitness states:
Viewed object in 2 frames spanning a 5 minute period, so it was not a plane. One frame shows that it was reflecting light. This sky cam has been offline since seeing this object.

Shock as boat crew see ‘UFO FIVE TIMES SIZE of ship rise from SEA and disappear

Shock as boat crew see ‘UFO FIVE TIMES SIZE of ship rise from SEA and disappear

FIVE crew members of an offshore supply ship (OSV) saw a monster UFO rise from the ocean, it has astonishingly been claimed.

UFO-Gulf

GETTY

Some conspiracy theorists claim UFOs exit the ocean from undersea bases.

UFO investigators are now calling for more witnesses to come forward after the shock report was made to a specialist organisation.

The UFO sighting allegedly happened last Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles southeast of New Orleans, and reported two days later.

The report was made to the US-based National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC), which keeps a database of sightings and investigates cases.

One unnamed crew member, who was the chief engineer of the OSV, said the UFO was five times bugger than the 240 feet oil rig supply ship they were on.

The report said: "At close to 7pm on March 21, just before dusk, myself and four of the crew members aboard our vessel saw a craft that appeared to be five times our 240 feet vessel in length.

RELATED ARTICLES

"My line of sight was about 1/4 mile from our vessel.

"There was a rig behind the craft about a half a mile away.

“I used this to help gauge the size of the craft."

He said it was visible for about 40 seconds.

He added: "The craft rose up out of the water about 40 feet, but no water was dripping from the craft.

"Within a split second the craft disappeared at a 30 degree angle into the sky."

He estimated it travelled faster than the sped of light entering a room, and within second was gone.

Witness report

He added: "I can say for sure that the craft was dark coloured, oval in shape and made no sound whatsoever."

He said with so many rigs in the area there must have been other witnesses.

NUFORC is urging anyone else to get in contact about the "significant sightings."

NUFORC investigators spoke with the witness by phone and have found him "legitimate."

RELATED ARTICLES

A NUFORC spokesman said: "We spoke via telephone with this witness, and he seemed to us to be unusually sober-minded.

“We suspect that he is a very capable, and very reliable, witness. He estimates that upwards of perhaps 50 people, who were aboard nearby vessels, may have witnessed the event, as well.

"We would urge those other witnesses to submit reports of what they had witnessed.”

Many conspiracy theorists claim that aliens do visit Earth and have secret undersea bases for their flying saucers.

No firm evidence for this being the case has come forward.

UFO Photographed Hovering Over Statue of Liberty in New York

UFO Photographed Hovering Over Statue of Liberty in New York

nyc-ufo

Speculation of an alien arrival resembling an Independence Day movie came to life after an image surfaced online showing an alleged UFO hovering above one of the famous landmarks in the world – Statue of Liberty.

The image seemingly shows a glowing disc emitting light.

An unnamed witness who was onboard a boat passing through the Hudson River reportedly taken the picture on Wednesday afternoon.

As the image was taken through a window, experts suggest that the UFO could be just a reflection of light on glass, meaning there was nothing outside the window.

Suspected UFO photographs have often been linked to reflections of lights on glass, especially when the photographer admitted that they saw nothing at the time of taking pictures. The photographers often say they only noticed alien UFOs when reviewing the photos.

In this case, the photographer did not notice the strange object until later that day when he looked back on their pictures.

However, many UFO enthusiasts don’t want to accept the explanation. They believe it was a visit by space alien tourists who wanted to see several American traditions. Others were amazed to know that USAF jets did not intercept the massive object hovering over New York. They suggested it only indicates that most army radars are not designed to detecting the aliens.

VIDEO SHOWS HORROR VISION OF OUR FUTURE DOMINATED BY AN AI MILITARY ARMY

VIDEO SHOWS HORROR VISION OF OUR FUTURE DOMINATED BY AN AI MILITARY ARMY

A video has been released for the Lukas Haas and Michelle Rodriguez movie with the name of 2031. The Movie takes on a militant robot uprising. But as automation technology and AI advance, could this be the harrowing future that Earth is heading towards?

WILL ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENT ROBOTS TAKE OVER THE WORLD BY 2031?

This is the age of automation and artificial intelligence and robots have been known to take over the jobs of people and leave them redundant. By 2030 it has been suggested that millions of jobs may be automated, leaving people out of work, but 2031 The Movie highlights other fears, the existence of humans.

The trailers opening scenes reveal that 1 in 50 soldiers in Afghanistan are automated in 2031 and this gives hints about the prevalence of artificial intelligence in society and more to the point, the warfaring capabilities of robots with artificial intelligence.

A FUTURE THAT IS HARROWING MAY BECOME REALITY

In the short film Lukas Haas and Michelle Rodriguez, perhaps better known for her role in the Fast and Furious movie, get together to help to put an end to the eradication of humanity, Rodriguez plays an ex-solider, while Haas plays an engineer. The pair has to work side by side to make use of the information they have to ensure that the world is not taken over by robots.

The video does paint a picture of a future of Earth where artificial intelligence in robots are not just replacing jobs of checkout clerks, lawyers, and business professionals, in the future they are an oppressive mechanical force that is superior to human beings that makes organic humans obsolete. It is a harrowing vision of what Earth might look like in 2031 as technology, and in particular, artificial intelligence is fast improving and getting better.

2031 The Movie shows robots, very similar to those envisioned in The Terminator movies, walking around the streets with guns tackling crime. They are positioned on street corners and walking among the general public when the robots begin behaving strangely, shooting down a helicopter. Once again Rodriguez takes on a tough girl image, being an ex-solider, to take on the artificially intelligent robots, which come in all shapes and sizes, from totally eradicating human beings on planet Earth. It is food for thought, is this how the world will end when humans have designed the technology to give life to the robots, will they wipe out their creators and take over?

ACTA ASTRONAUTICA: 'WE ARE NOT READY FOR CONTACT WITH EXTRATERRESTRIAL INTELLIGENCE'

ACTA ASTRONAUTICA: 'WE ARE NOT READY FOR CONTACT WITH EXTRATERRESTRIAL INTELLIGENCE'

Are humans ready to make contact with alien intelligence?

Project scientists at SETI are known for tracking what may be extra-terrestrial signals, but now it looks as though they are thinking about sending messages to aliens and giving them the position of humans of Earth. But are humans ready for making contact with aliens?

RESEARCHER ASKS STUDENTS WHETHER THEY ARE READY TO GREET ALIEN LIFEFORMS

One researcher from the Spain’s University of Cadiz has questioned the idea after gathering results from a survey taken by students at the University, which revealed ignorance in general about the cosmos along with the influence of religion when it comes to dealing with these matters.

The SETI project, Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence was an initiative that started out in the 70s after funding was given from NASA. Today it has evolved to the collaboration of many millions of users on the internet for processing data from the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, home to the space tracking.

STEPHEN HAWKING WARNS OF RISKS OF SENDING OUT EARTH INVITATION TO ALIENS

RELATED ARTICLES

The project is controversial. However, members want to go a step further and not only search for possible signs of extra-terrestrial life but send messages out from Earth to try to find possible alien civilizations. Stephen Hawking, astrophysicists, has warned about the risks of making such a search poses for humanity, as it may favor any arrival of aliens with technology that is advanced and dubious intentions.

Gabriel G. De la Torre, a professor at the University of Cadiz, has analyzed the sociological and ethical implications of the proposal to send out a signal telling alien lifeforms where Earth and humans are located. He asked if a decision such as this could be taken on behalf of the planet. He went on to ask what might happen if it was a success and alien life did receive the signal, would the people on Earth be ready for contact.

STUDY REVEALED HUMANS ARE NOT READY FOR CONTACT WITH ALIENS

The professor wrote and sent out a questionnaire to 116 university students of American, Spanish and Italian origin. The survey looked into their knowledge of astronomy along with levels of perception of the physical environment, the opinions of the place that things occupy in the cosmos along with religious questions. One question posed asked whether the students believed that God had in fact created the universe and the likelihood that humans could contract alien lifeforms.

The results, published in the journal ‘Acta Astronautica’, from the study suggested that humans are not ready to contact an extra-terrestrial civilization as they lack knowledge along with being unprepared. Due to this SETI researchers have been recommended to look for different strategies.

“This pilot study demonstrates that the knowledge of the general public of a certain education level about the cosmos and our place within it is still poor. Therefore, a cosmic awareness must be further promoted – where our mind is increasingly conscious of the global reality that surrounds us – using the best tool available to us: education,” De la Torre emphasised. ”In this respect, we need a new Galileo to lead this journey”.

It was said that the pilot study had shown that the general public’s knowledge of a certain education level when it came to the cosmos and the place of humans within it, was poor. Cosmic awareness needs to be promoted further where the human mind is conscious of the global reality that is surrounding us, using the best tool that is available, which is education De la Torre said.

It was found from the questions asked, which are going to be made available for everyone on the internet, that university students along with the rest of society, on the whole, lacks awareness about astronomical aspects, despite the progress of technology and science of today. It was said that many people think about the subjects based on religious beliefs and they may reply on politicians if there was a big crisis on a global scale that needed resolving.

So it does look like the people on Earth are not ready to welcome alien civilizations with open arms, even if SETI were to find them.

Take a look at pictures from some of India’s most iconic UFO sightings

Take a look at pictures from some of India’s most iconic UFO sightings

Over the Taj Mahal, along a coastal road, in Ladakh - India has a dramatic and much-debated history of Unidentified Flying Objects.

UFO sightings in India are more sporadic than in the US, but we still have iconic images such as this one taken near the Taj Mahal in Agra. “We don’t know who clicked the Taj Mahal photo, but it’s become famous in Indian UFOlogy circles,” says Hitesh Yadav, 21, a BTech student from Gurgaon, an active UFO investigator and editor of UFO Magazine India.

Over the Taj Mahal, along a coastal road, in Ladakh - India has a dramatic and much-debated history of Unidentified Flying Objects. Here’re some eerie examples:

The unidentified object spotted in Banswara, Rajasthan, in 2008. Eight locals reported seeing an unfamiliar craft in the afternoon sky. They described the UFO as a hat-shaped object with a bright underlight.

In 1964, Billy Meier – one of the world’s most infamous UFO researchers – travelled to India and shot a series of photographs that allegedly show UFOs over Delhi’s skies. Above are three of them.
Technology is now aiding the search for answers. Some ufologists are using satellite imagery, apps and online tools to zero in on odd phenomena, such as these ‘urban crop circles’ in Tirrupur, Tamil Nadu.

25 Space Conspiracies That Just Won't Die - PART I

INTRO: Space Conspiracies

On the internet, you need to be a skeptical reader these days. Claims of aliens and UFOs, Mars being abnormally big, or the moon turning green are the kinds of things you should check out carefully. Here are some of the biggest space myths that just won't go away.

The Apollo moon landings were faked.

Credit: NASA

1. The Apollo moon landings were faked.

Twelve NASA astronauts walked on the moon between 1969 and 1972, and the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has since released new photos of the landing sites. In the decades since Apollo 11 astronauts first set foot on the moon, many theories have been put forward claiming that the whole Apollo program was staged. Why are there no stars in the sky in the moonwalkers' photos? Why are the U.S. flags fluttering on the surface? Why do you see footprints in the pictures, but no marks from the lunar modules that landed there?

The answers to those questions are simpler than you may think. There are no stars in the sky for the same reason you don't see stars during the day on Earth: The bright glow of daylight on the surface washes them out. U.S. flags planted into the lunar soil had metal rods sewn in them to appear as though they were moving. Without these wires, the flag would have hung straight down, making for a pretty lackluster photo prop. And the lunar modules, though heavier, didn't put prominent marks in the surface in some places because their mass was more evenly distributed than the astronauts' weight was in their boots. [Top 10 Apollo Hoax Theories]

NASA is a lie.

2. NASA is a lie.

Some folks actually believe NASA's whole function is not to explore space, but to generate space-related hoaxes. (The Apollo moon landing is a famous example that we'll explore in the next slide.) People who believe this conspiracy, sometimes flagged with the hashtag "#NASAhoax" on social media, will say that amazing space pictures of Mars, Pluto and even Earth are fake, computer-generated imagery (CGI). [Video: NASA Employees 'Welcome' You to the Space Agency]

In reality, NASA was formed in 1958 "to provide for research into problems of flight within and outside the Earth's atmosphere, and for other purposes," according to the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958, which then-president Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law shortly after the start of the space race against the Soviet Union. Since then, NASA has launched hundreds of satellites into orbit around Earth, the moon and several other worlds. In fact, NASA spacecraft have orbited, flown by or landed on every planet in the solar system. NASA also sends astronauts into orbit, where they conduct research at the International Space Station (ISS).

Not convinced? Try watching a rocket launch for yourself, or see the space station and other satellites with your own eyes with the help of a satellite tracker.

The Earth is flat.

Credit: NOAA/NASA

3. The Earth is flat.

This myth is so popular that there is even a group named after it: the Flat Earth Society. Members of the organization argue that the horizon is always at eye level, which they say would not be possible if the Earth were round. They also say there is no full movie of the Earth rotating from space — which is not true, as NASA has published multiple videos taken from satellites, including a live video of Earth from the ISS, which orbits our planet 16 times per day.

One way of demonstrating to yourself that the Earth is round is to consider how orbits of satellites work. Satellites constantly "fall" around the Earth as they are pulled around by our planet's gravity; they just need to be traveling fast enough at a high enough altitude to not slam into the atmosphere. Or, you can look at the amazing pictures taken by astronauts at the ISS.

Still not sold? Watch Neil deGrasse Tyson lay out the facts in a rap battle with B.o.B. "The Earth looks flat because you aren't far enough away at your size," Tyson explains. "Your size isn't large enough relative to Earth to notice any curvature at all."

Planet Nine will kill us.

Credit: Caltech/R. Hurt (IPAC)

4. Planet Nine will kill us.

In April 2016, the New York Post tweeted, "A newly discovered planet could destroy Earth as soon as this month." The newspaper was referring to Planet Nine, a theoretical planet at the edge of the solar system. An accompanying video also claimed that the new planet would be throwing all sorts of asteroids and comets at Earth, which would supposedly end up pummeling our planet.

Although the planet's existence has not been confirmed, astronomers are actively looking for it to explain motions of some objects in the icy Kuiper Belt, a vast region of icy objects beyond Neptune. If the planet is actually found, the California Institute of Technology's Mike Brown (who is one of the original backers of the Planet Nine theory) says the planet will pose no threat to us.

Alien research is happening at Area 51.

5. Alien research is happening at Area 51.

The 1996 movie "Independence Day" is one of the sources of the Area 51 hoax, which claims that aliens and their technology — recovered from crashed flying saucers — are being studied secretly at a classified military base about 80 miles (130 kilometers) northwest of Las Vegas in the Nevada desert. Some people in the area around the base claim that they have seen strange flights out of this area.

While Area 51's true focus is classified, the U.S. government has acknowledged its existence (although the CIA officially calls it "Homey Airport" or "Groom Lake"). A part of Edwards Air Force Base, the area was a known location for high-technology airplane flights in the 1960s and 1970s. It first served as a proving ground for Lockheed U-2 and A-12 OXCART spy planes as early as 1955. UFO sightings reported in the area were indeed unidentified objects, but only because the planes were top-secret — not because they were flown by aliens.

6. There is a killer planet known as "Nibiru."

Conspiracy theorists say another dangerous planet is Nibiru, which was first mentioned in the 1976 book "The Twelfth Planet," by Zecharia Sitchin. In the book, Sitchin translated ancient Sumerian cuneiform and claimed that the text is proof of a planet beyond Neptune called Nibiru that orbits the sun every 3,600 years.

Years later, self-proclaimed psychic Nancy Lieder claimed to have communicated with extraterrestrials who said Nibiru would collide with Earth in 2003. When that didn't happen, the date was moved to 2012 (and linked, of course, with the 2012 doomsday predictions). Of course, the collision never occurred, the world didn't end in 2012 and no astronomer has ever found a planet on a collision course with Earth.

There is a face on Mars.

Credit: NASA

7. There is a face on Mars.

In 1976, NASA's Viking 1 spacecraft took a picture of what appeared to be a face on Mars. Immediately, some people said there must have been aliens on the Red Planet that left that face behind as evidence of their existence. NASA, however, pointed out that the suspected face is really just a pile of rocks casting shadows that resemble face-like features.

NASA followed up with better-resolution pictures taken from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and the Mars Global Surveyor in 1998 and 2001, respectively. These new images made it quite clear that the "face on Mars" is nothing more than a trick of light and shadows on a completely normal Martian mound.

The moon Iapetus is an alien Death Star.

Credit: NASA

8. The moon Iapetus is an alien Death Star.

Iapetus is a moon of Saturn that looks somewhat like the infamous Death Star in the "Star Wars" franchise, with a large crater that resembles the fictional weapon's superlaser focus lens. The Death Star is a planet-killing machine that destroys entire worlds with its outrageously powerful laser. It was prominently featured in the 2016 movie "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," as well as in 1977's "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope."

A Daily Mail article published in May 2016 claimed Iapetus is an artificial object crafted by aliens. As "evidence," the article cited a photo taken by NASA's Cassini spacecraft in 2004. In the photo, there's a line around the moon's equator that resembles the equatorial trench around the Death Star. But this line isn’t nearly as interesting as the Death Star's trench, which houses the battle station's engines, thrusters and docking bays. That line is nothing more than a mountain ridge, and Iapetus is actually just made up of boring old rock and ice. Cassini has flown by the moon to take pictures several times without being blasted by deadly alien lasers.

Saturn's hexagon is alien technology.

Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/SSI/Hampton University

9. Saturn's hexagon is alien technology.

Saturn's hexagon was first spotted when NASA's Voyager spacecraft flew by the giant, ringed planet in 1980. The bizarre, six-sided structure on the round planet's north pole caused quite the stir, because straight lines and polygons are not so common in nature.

Immediately after the Voyager returned its first images of Saturn's strange feature, even stranger theories arose to explain it, including that it was somehow related to alien technology, or perhaps even was a gateway to hell. The hexagon is not artificial, but rather a weird-looking hurricane at Saturn's pole. NASA has done several flybys of this region with the Cassini spacecraft, studying the haze particles and other features of the storm, to try to learn more about its weird properties.

Mars is as big as the moon.

10. Mars is as big as the moon.

Originating in 2003, the infamous Mars hoax asserts that Mars was closer to Earth than it had been in the 60,000 years prior, and that the planet will appear as large as the full moon. What started out as a misconstrued email turned into a recurring rumor that gets reshared every August and, naturally, has spread to social media as it became more popular. [Quiz: Mars Myths and Misconceptions]

Although Mars is indeed relatively close to Earth in a cosmic sense, it will never be as large as the full moon. It will appear as a red dot in the sky, just as the ancient astronomers saw it. If you'd like to see Mars magnified, take out a telescope or look at one of NASA's spectacular Mars pictures.

The moon will turn green.

11.  The moon will turn green.

In spring 2016, there was a rumor that the moon would turn green because several planets had aligned and caused an eerie glow. This was supposed to happen on April 20 and again on May 29 for the first time since 1596, the rumor alleged.

The moon never actually turned green, although it can appear red during a lunar eclipse, when the moon passes through Earth's shadow. In the same way sunsets often appear red, sunlight is scattered as it passes through Earth's atmosphere, casting a reddish shadow on the moon's surface.

Skywatching columnist Joe Rao debunked this green-moon myth. He pointed out that a full moon actually took place on April 22, 2016, and speculated that the April 20 date of the "green moon" might have to do with "National Weed Day," popularly known as 4/20. Considering that the last green moon supposedly happened 420 years ago as well, this doesn't appear to be a coincidence.

Earth will go dark for two weeks.

12. Earth will go dark for two weeks.

In July 2015, a website called "NewsWatch33" wrote an article claiming that Earth would have 15 days of complete darkness that year. The website, which is actually a fake news site, was borrowing from an older version of the tale that has been circulating for years, according to debunking website Snopes.

As we all know, Earth did not actually experience that much darkness that year. (The article claimed that the alleged darkness was partly due to a Jupiter-Venus conjunction, which actually took place more than 500 million miles apart.) Darkness occurs when the Earth rotates, causing the sun to "set" on the local horizon. Brief periods of darkness can also happen when the sun is totally obscured during total solar eclipses, which occur rarely in any particular spot on Earth. But even during an eclipse, Earth is never completely in the dark.

Zero-gravity day will make you weightless.

13. Zero-gravity day will make you weightless.

If you ever wanted to leap into the sky and soar like Superman, this hoax is for you. In late 2014 and early 2015, a widely shared story claimed that on Jan. 4, 2015, everyone on Earth would experience weightlessness due to a rare alignment of the planets. A doctored image of a purported tweet from NASA's Twitter account that went around on social media fooled a lot of people into believing the hoax.

But, of course, nobody floated off the surface of Earth that day. Earth's gravity is too strong for people to become weightless. The only way to experience weightlessness without going to space is to ride aboard a plane that performs parabolas, with some including a few seconds of weightlessness. This is sometimes nicknamed the Vomit Comet.
Alien spacecraft caused a mysterious explosion.

14. Alien spacecraft caused a mysterious explosion.

Back in 2004, an expedition of Russian researchers working in Siberia claimed to have discovered "an extraterrestrial device" close to where the mysterious Tunguska explosion occurred. Scientists still aren't sure exactly what it was that blew up in the sky over Siberia that day in 1908, but the leading theory is that it was a large meteorite or an asteroid.

The Tunguska incident flattened hundreds of square miles of forest, and signs of the destruction were visible even decades afterward. At the time, news reports claimed that evidence of aliens was found at the site, but this claim was never substantiated. "The Russian team stupidly stated long before they went to Siberia that the main intention of their expedition was to find the remnants of an alien spaceship," Benny Peiser, a researcher at Liverpool John Moores University in the U.K., told Space.com. "And bingo! A week later, that's what they claim to have found."

INTRO: Space Conspiracies

On the internet, you need to be a skeptical reader these days. Claims of aliens and UFOs, Mars being abnormally big, or the moon turning green are the kinds of things you should check out carefully. Here are some of the biggest space myths that just won't go away.
UFO was caught
Credit: joshls | YouTube

15. UFO was caught "refueling" at the sun.

NASA has a fleet of sun-gazing spacecraft that keep an eye on space weather, especially during solar eruptions. In 2012, telescopic images appeared to show something in the shadows. On YouTube, some viewers said this could be a UFO that was refueling by using the solar plasma.

However, NASA pointed out that the feature is actually something called a "prominence," which has cooler and denser plasma than the outer atmosphere of the sun, or the corona. Scientists are still trying to figure out how solar prominences develop, but they're pretty sure it has nothing to do with aliens.

16. There is a ______ on Mars!

With NASA's Opportunity and Curiosity rovers regularly taking pictures of the Martian surface, viewers have the chance to check out what they're doing in almost real time. NASA puts the raw images online for the public to see. But over the years, some weird shapes have cropped up. In 2008, for example, the Opportunity rover appeared to photograph a female figure. Other photos have shown things shaped like animals, spoons or other items.

You can imagine that, with all of the rocks available on Mars, some of them would happen to look like familiar objects. In fact, the human brain tends to perceive meaningful images in random patterns — a phenomenon known as pareidolia.

When evaluating the claims, consider that the Martian environment is extremely harsh to life as we know it; the surface is baked with radiation, the "air" is mostly carbon dioxide and there's not much atmospheric pressure.
I just saw a bright UFO!

17. I just saw a bright UFO!

It's a familiar trope for police stations and astronomy writers. From time to time, somebody will call (or write) in to say they just saw a UFO in the sky. They spotted a bright light around sunset, or saw a light moving around in an unfamiliar way.

While every situation is different, one common explanation for "UFOs" is actually another extraterrestrial object: Venus. Venus can be extremely bright when it's at its closest, because it's relatively near Earth. The planet is also extremely reflective because the sun's light bounces off the clouds. So before calling to say you've spotted a UFO, check your sky charts! [7 Things Most Often Mistaken for UFOs]

18. NASA can travel faster than light.

If you've seen the "Star Trek" clips that show the Enterprise spaceship warping into another sector, you might have wondered how fast NASA is making progress on being able to move at the speed of light. The EmDrive has created years of speculation, with some breathlessly saying NASA must be on the verge of breaking the famed barrier.

In reality, NASA is downplaying the reports. The engine in question is a prototype that is producing some interesting results, such as appearing to create thrust when there was no reason for this to happen – and thereby violating Newton's Third Law of Motion. That said, NASA has not yet verified the results from these tests, and the engine has not been widely discussed in peer-reviewed research. [Superfast Spacecraft Propulsion Concepts (Images)]
We've launched balloons into space!

19. We've launched balloons into space!

With the advent of high-resolution, miniature cameras, several people have decided to strap these cameras on to high-altitude balloons and take pictures from up high. They've caught glimpses of blackness and, at times, taken interesting tiny passengers along (such as these Lego pieces and a Canadian flag in 2012). So they must be in space, right?

There's no way a balloon can get into space, and simple physics explains why. When a balloon rises into the sky, the air inside will expand in response to the dropping atmospheric pressure and eventually pop. Even Felix Baumgartner's stunning high-altitude balloon jump in 2012 was not actually from space, but from the stratosphere, which extends to roughly 31 miles (50 kilometers) above the Earth's surface. At that altitude the air is thin enough to see the blackness of space, but thick enough to support special high-altitude balloons. The boundary between Earth's atmosphere and outer space is about twice as high as the upper limits of the stratosphere. [World View's Near-Space Tourism Balloon Rides in Pictures]
There are canals on Mars.

20. There are canals on Mars.

Author Percival Lowell became one of space's first popularizers when he wrote many books for the general public back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. In these books and other writings, he said there were canals on Mars built by an intelligent civilization, perhaps to move water into desert-stricken areas. He claimed to have seen the canals in his own telescope, and produced several sketches that are still available on the internet today.

There are no artificial canals on Mars. Several spacecraft have flown by the planet or orbited it, and not one has caught signs of aliens from orbit. What they have seen, however, are smaller channels that were created by nature – likely from water, ice or other processes that cause erosion. [Photos: Water on Mars]
A star is flinging comets at Earth.
Credit: Don Davis

21. A star is flinging comets at Earth.

A long-standing theory known as Nemesis supposes that there is some sort of "death star" on the outer edge of the solar system, whose orbital motions perturb comets in an icy region of objects known as the Oort Cloud. According to the myth, the star's gravity throws these comets toward the inner solar system, and these comets collide with Earth and cause mass extinctions once every 27 million years.

However, 2011 study concluded that this idea is unlikely, because the comet strikes in recorded history haven't happened with any regularity. The pattern that was recorded in the hoax is actually a statistical artifact, or the result of researchers trying to find patterns in nature where they do not exist, the study's authors found.
There's life on Venus.
Credit: Leonid Ksanfomaliti/ Solar System Research

22. There's life on Venus.

Back in the 1970s and 1980s, the Soviet Union sent several uncrewed missions to study Venus. Ten of these Venera probes landed on the surface of Venus and were able to transmit data and images for a few minutes before succumbing to the planet's extreme atmosphere. In 2012, the Russian news service RIA Novosti reported that Leonid Ksanfomaliti, a scientist who worked on the Venera missions, suggested that the photographs showed living objects moving around on the planet's surface. (RIA Novosti ceased operations in 2013.) [Photos of Venus, the Mysterious Planet Next Door]

These alleged life-forms on Venus are just an example of "letting your mind see patterns in low-resolution data that simply aren't real," Jonathon Hill, a research technician who processes images taken during NASA's Mars missions, explained to Space.com's sister site, LiveScience, in 2012. According to NASA, the objects that appeared to be moving were actually camera-lens covers that automatically popped off of the cameras after landing LiveScience reports. These half-circle objects were seen in images from Venera-13 and Venera-14, two identical spacecraft that landed about 590 miles (950 km) apart. Both had two identical cameras — one in the front and one in the back — so it makes sense that the covers would appear in different places. Another photograph that Ksanfomaliti said was a scorpion is actually a blur in the image.
An asteroid is about to crash into Earth.
Credit: NASA/JPL

23. An asteroid is about to crash into Earth.

This recurring rumor claims that a threatening "doomsday" asteroid is about to slam into our planet. An example from 2015 had an asteroid purported to hit Earth in late September, when it would supposedly wreak devastation from its impact point near Puerto Rico. NASA quickly dismissed the reports — which turned out, as usual, to be false. But that's not to say that asteroids will never hit our planet.

NASA and a network of monitoring telescopes across the world are cataloging all known asteroids wider than 459 feet (140 meters) across in line with a 2005 congressional mandate. (Smaller asteroids, if found, are also cataloged.) Of the space rocks discovered so far, NASA has not found a single asteroid that has a high probability of hitting Earth in the foreseeable future. 24. Aliens landed in Roswell, New Mexico

On a ranch in Roswell, New Mexico, so the story goes, an alien spacecraft crashed in 1947. While the accounts of exactly what happen vary, the legend claims that a disc or some sort of spacecraft was found on a ranch, and that the government quickly covered up the evidence.

While rumors of aliens circulated, some people speculated that the crash was just a plain old weather balloon that might not have been recognized by the local community. The U.S. military has since acknowledged the "spacecraft" was actually a weather balloon sent aloft as part of Project Mogul, which involved flying microphones on high-altitude balloons to listen for sound waves generated by possible Soviet Union nuclear tests.
Climate change isn't real.
Credit: Nicolle Rager Fuller, National Science Foundation

25. Climate change isn't real.

Earth is on an abnormal warming trend. Arctic ice is melting, the sea level is rising and temperatures are going to extremes in many locations around the world. Why is this happening? Anti-climate-change conspirators have many explanations: solar activity, radiation, the Earth's (and sun's) movements around the Milky Way, among other theories.

While there are many components of climate change, the fact that humans have contributed to it is indisputable. Temperature graphs show that the climate has not warmed this much, this quickly in all of Earth's history (as seen in geological records), and that the increase correlates with increased industrialization. ALIEN ABDUCTION? THE MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE OF BRUNO BORGES

ALIEN ABDUCTION? THE MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE OF BRUNO BORGES

Bruno Borges, the son of the local contractor Athos Borges has recently disappeared from his family home in the province of the Brazilian Acres.

According to his parents, the young man has been remarkably intelligent and has always shown a keen interest in what some might call "forbidden knowledge."

Before his disappearance on 27 March, Bruno had retained its house locked during a month. During this period he covered many pages to write cryptic and then covered the walls, floor, ceiling and the furniture in his room with said pages.

He had also worked on 14 Manuscripts, all written in the same figure. His mother has admitted that he once told him the books have the power to change humanity in a positive way.

"It is informed," said the mother of Bruno local press. "At school, he was always differentiated, a born leader, with a high power of persuasion. It is a good boy, who has given of the things of the House and others, such as the T-shirts and trousers. This is not because he is my son, I speak of love Bruno, who sees the soul of the people."

Freedom of Thought also characterized Bruno Borges, which is adorned with alchemical symbols mysterious and spotless has symmetry.

On the inside of the House of Bruno there is evidence not only of esoteric knowledge generally outside the scope of the average Joes but also a foreigner in a short period of time, his case has attracted the interest of the local media and a small part of one of his manuscripts has already been translated into Portuguese.

"For thousands of years the human being has tried to find answers to questions such as "What is the meaning of life"? The philosophy that is all indicates, seems to have been undertaken with stories of Miletus in the middle of 700 before J.-C. It aims to find the remains of questions without answers.

Deep Search of the absolute truth comes from the philosophy, and when we are talking about respect of paths easy or difficult, we are referring to this type of theorem. It is easy to accept what you have been taught since childhood and that which is evil. It is difficult when you are an adult to understand that you have been taught since to wrong you suspect that you have been correct.

In other words, if you adapt to certain stimuli including the one from the Environment has determined a certain behavior for you, making you the store of beliefs already provided and well established in the dogmas and rituals, with a mass of people in it; or allowing you to be compliant, the acceptance of the concept of happiness and meaning of life in the media and society, then it is clear that it is part of the easy access to the research of the absolute truth. Does it fit in the second option, that is to say, that which suspected each set of beliefs that is rooted in him, then he has everything to be a researcher sincere in the things around him, the seizure of a path more complex, where a minority of companies or of the faces of courage …"

This mystery develops. By its own admission, Bruno had stumbled on something that reflects the true meaning of life and that it was determined to follow. In its own words, it is launched in a "path complicated" in search of the truth.

NIKOLA TESLA - ELECTRICAL INVENTOR AND VISIONARY GENIUS. FULL FEATURE BIOGRAPHY!

NIKOLA TESLA - ELECTRICAL INVENTOR AND VISIONARY GENIUS. FULL FEATURE BIOGRAPHY!

This documentary presents the story of Nikola Tesla, the great scientist, visionary, and inventor who gave the world alternating current electricity, as well as being the father of the radio.

The film tells the story of this man's astonishing genius, his visions, and inventions. Tesla's scientific and autobiographical writings, as well as archival photographs and reenactments, are used to tell the story. A native of Austro-Hungary, Tesla came to America in 1884. Working first with Edison, the two inventors fell out over Edison's insistence on using direct current.

Tesla took his alternating current vision to Westinghouse. His New York address was renowned for the bolts of lightning emanating from it, as Tesla worked to unlock the secrets of energy and electricity. His quest took him to Colorado.

The film follows Tesla's exploits and eccentricities, which made him a darling of the press. Included is the well-known and touching story of his devotion to a certain white pigeon. Largely forgotten today in spite of the great debt the modern world owes him, the film pays tribute to this overlooked genius.

FINAL PROOF? INCREDIBLE FAST UFO FLYING ABOVE AREA 51

FINAL PROOF? INCREDIBLE FAST UFO FLYING ABOVE AREA 51

700_2d4eec82df2ef7504235311afb12bef4.jpg?v=1494163158

Early may this incredible footage was shot near area 51. It shows an object that appeared from outer nowhere. It was tracked by team of UFO hunters that camp right outside area 51.

The object that they captured did not make any sound at all, it appeared out of nowhere. It hoovered the area as it was searching for something.

Than all of the sudden the object start speeding untill it disappeared. It did not produce a sonic boom which is odd, because it clearly reaches speeds well above the speed of sound.

After analysing the footage it appears 2 other UFO's could be seen in the video footage. Were these objects originating from the object?

Was this an extraterrestrial object or was it a super secret aircraft that conducted a test flight above area 51? If it was a secret aircraft, why did it not leave a typical sonic boom when it went supersonic?

I. Midnight Special

At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world slept, Sunita Yadav awoke to a levitating alien.

She watched, petrified, as it hovered a foot above the ground just behind her home. Standing over 4ft tall, with grey skin and big, black eyes, it proceeded from the Yadavs’ backyard toward their front door before – as her son Hitesh remembers – it “just vanished”.

In the 15 years since, the humanoid has made numerous other appearances around the Western Command Hospital in Panchkula, some 10 km away from Chandigarh.

“It’s now a mascot. Residents in the area believe it’s lucky to spot it,” says Hitesh, 20, now a tech student living in Gurgaon.

In their sketch, the alien looks like a swarthy dwarf. But Hitesh remains convinced that what he saw was an extraterrestrial. And he spends much of his free time trying to prove it.

Hitesh runs the free bi-monthly e-zine UFO Magazine India, is developer of the Ufology App and founder of Disclosure Team India, which investigates UFO sightings and encounters in the country.

“Disclosure has grown to 200 members since it was set up in January 2016, including 22 from the US and UK,” he says. The website has a form where people can report their sightings in detail.

This form has been filled four times. “But our investigators hear many stories from locals on the ground,” he stresses.

“I’m currently researching an alien abductee case in Chhattisgarh,” Hitesh says. “I don’t care what people think, because my parents and sister are accepting. But my relatives don’t know what I do. If they did, they’d surely call me crazy.”

Hitesh Yadav, 20, is a tech student at a Gurgaon college. He believes he saw an alien as a child. In his free time, he runs the free e-zine UFO Magazine India. He is also the founder of Disclosure Team India, which investigates UFO sightings and encounters in the country. They currently have four cases under investigation.

II. Arrival

In the inaugural March issue of UFO Magazine India, columnist Ramkrishan Vaishnav deconstructs the Drake equation proposed by American astrophysicist Frank Drake, a mathematical formula used to estimate the number of detectable extraterrestrials (ETs) in the Milky Way.

“I’m a UFOlogist because I’m a scientist. Even the Indian military has reported sightings,” says the 27-year-old entrepreneur from Nagaur, Rajasthan. “We know little about what lies beyond our own solar system. Why dismiss possibilities altogether?”

In his teens (and with The X-Files etched in his psyche), Vaishnav signed up to help create 3D maps for NASA’s moon missions, analyse asteroid samples for The Planetary Society, and study radio data for the SETI@Home project, the UC Berkeley offshoot of SETI or Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute.

But his turning point was March 2008. Just two months after he’d set up TOP (The Other Planet) Research Group to investigate UFO sightings, Vaishnav heard of a sighting in Banswara village, where eight locals reported seeing an unfamiliar craft in the afternoon sky.

Six days later, Vaishnav was there. “The villagers described the UFO as a hat-shaped object with a bright underlight. We also found an odd-shaped stone that looked like nothing else in the radius we scanned. Image evidence of this encounter is the best you’ll find in India,” he says.

What’s really in the sky over your head? Take a look at some of the informed opinions

Vaishnav is now founder of ExpeTechnologies and Shakti Innovative Products. He has filed four patents: for a solar satellite plant, non-conventional wireless mobile charging, touchscreen technology, and a next-gen user-interface system.

Tech research is his bread and butter, but ufology remains his Danish pastry.

“I’m intrigued by why many sightings are from Rajasthan and West Bengal. And the Kongka Pass in Ladakh,” he muses. “It’s also a remote military base, so you never know.

III. Signs

On October 26, 2014, at 4.55 am, a man looks out of the window in Thane and sees a horizontal row of red, yellow and green lights that blink but remain stationary for several minutes, then disappear. He records footage on his cellphone.

On November 7, 2014, a fast-moving object is captured hovering over Bengaluru, framed against a full moon. It stays there for nearly an hour, then disappears as suddenly as it appeared.

These cases are among 60 sightings in 2014 that were assigned to Kumaresan Ramanathan after he joined Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

Ramanathan is a senior technical engineer with a Chennai-based IT firm who blogs as alienseeker on Wordpress. In 2012, he became India’s first ‘certified UFO investigator’ under MUFON, the largest non-profit investigating UFOs, with 3,000 members worldwide.

Pushkar Vaidya is an astrobiologist and founder of the Indian Astrobiology Research Centre in Mumbai, which studies the origin, forms and future of life in the universe.
“As they say in The X-Files: ‘I wanted to believe, but the tools have been taken away’.” —Pushkar Vaidya

“MUFON employs scientific methods, not conjecture,” says the 36-year-old. “You have to renew your membership and purchase manuals every year, then take an exam and score at least 80% to become a qualified investigator.”

The test is a mix of objective and multiple choice questions, spanning subjects such as how to interact with eyewitnesses and the plan of action if a witness claims to have an encounter. “They present hypothetical situations to gauge if you’d make for a good investigator,” Ramanathan explains. “All tests are examined at the MUFON headquarters in Newport Beach, California. If you make the cut, you’re given an ID and certificate proclaiming you’re licensed.”

But it’s not all love and sunshine. “Of every 100 cases, about 97 end up being fake — optical illusions, doctored images, or everyday objects mistakenly identified as otherwise,” he admits. “This teaches you discernment.”

Now an independent ufologist after working with MUFON for two years, Ramanathan will visit Aniketty, near Coimbatore, to study a spurt of unexplained objects reported since 2011.

“My family always supported me,” he replies, when asked what people make of his ‘other job’. “Some collegians called me Jaadu for devoting so much time to ufology. But who cares about acquaintances?”

IV. The Fifth Element

At 8.28 p.m. on December 15, 1987, six-year-old Kamal Pant stood on the terrace of his Dehradun home and observed a large, red light soaring directly overhead.

“No, it wasn’t a plane, helicopter, or prank,” he says, before you’ve asked the question. “Whatever it was stayed there a while and made no sound.”

The incident would spur the self-professed ‘sky watcher’ and fan of Star Trek, The X-Files, mythology, and conspiracy theories to scour the internet for all things UFO and ET. Then in 2014, he photographed and filmed what he claims is “a mothership taking off from and landing on the moon.” From thereon, Pant goes full steam ahead.

“I even mailed NASA about it, but didn’t hear from them. Until a month later, when I got an email from someone in Houston asking me to ‘stay away’,” he claims.

“Do you have this email, or a snapshot of it?”

“No. My system got corrupt a day later, and some of my videos vanished. My computer had been tampered with.”

_78406340-31ac-11e7-aae9-524ad91d2809.jpg
IT engineer Kumaresan Ramanathan says some of his colleagues called him Jaadu, after the alien in the Hindi film Koi... Mil Gaya, but he doesn’t care.
ON THE JOB WITH A UFO INVESTIGATOR
  • The first thing to do when you receive a report about a UFO sighting is rule out what’s explainable, says Kumaresan Ramanathan, who has served as chief investigator with MUFON (India).
  • “Phenomena like strange lights are more explainable than not. These can be caused by anything from crackers to iridium flares caused by moving satellites.”
  • Online tools like FlightRadar and Heavens-Above can help determine if there was a passing craft or astronomical occurrence in the area at the time of the sighting.
  • Interviews with eyewitnesses are generally conducted via email or over the phone. “Only sightings that are compelling require us to go on site,” Ramanathan says.
  • What tools does a UFO investigator use? Hitesh Yadav, who is self-trained, lists a film camera, compass, telescope, tape recorder, electromagnetic field or EMF sensor, Geiger counter (for radiation), scintillation counter (for ionising radiation), and Plaster of Paris to make moulds in case impressions are found!

Pant, a computer science lecturer at a private university in Dehradun, is what naysayers would call a tinfoil hatter (conspiracy theorist). He believes NASA and the US are involved in a cover-up, and that alien technology was obtained from the Roswell crash. He also claims to have CE-5 communication with ETs – that is, telepathic communication between himself and aliens.

“My mother and wife have seen everything and know I’m not lying,” Pant says. “Distant relatives call me sanki (madcap), but it doesn’t affect me.”

The 36-year-old father of a toddler, who works with both Disclosure and TOP Research Group, is currently looking into sightings in Ranichauri village, Tehri-Garhwal district. “The events are so common, locals call the beings pariyaan (fairies). They also tell their children not to step out after dark lest they be taken away.”

His colleagues at the university, Pant says, have no qualms with his interests and theories. And even if they did, he wouldn’t break into a sweat.

“Every time I look at the sky, I feel like something, and someone, wants to communicate with me,” he shares. “No one can take that away from me.”

V. 2001: A Space Odyssey

Pushkar Vaidya likes his coffee cold and his feuds hot.

From 2007 to 2015, the astrobiologist was embroiled in a scientific tug of war with astrophysicist and author Jayant Narlikar. The bone of contention: Narlikar’s hypotheses supporting panspermia – the theory that life exists throughout the universe and is distributed through asteroids, comets, and meteoroids. In short: life on earth may have come from external sources.

A truce was eventually called when Vaidya founded the Indian Astrobiology Research Centre (IARC) in Mumbai, for which Narlikar now serves as mentor.

“I’m open to the possibility of ET microbial or intelligent life. I just didn’t think there was enough evidence,” says Vaidya. “If anything, panspermia research is one of IARC’s focus areas.”

Vaidya is no ufologist. The 36-year-old straddles the no-man’s land between belief and scepticism. His bond with Arthur C. Clarke, one of the world’s most prolific sci-fi authors, has much to do with it.

“When I was 16 and studying in Sri Lanka, I wrote In Search of Aliens. Arthur Clarke lived in Colombo and as an ardent fan, I went to his home because I wanted him to pen the foreword to my book,” he laughs. “He didn’t write it, but that kicked off a two-year association.”

Vaidya credits Clarke for bringing wonderment and adventure to science. “Science is now increasingly taking on a tone of finality, especially when it comes to the search for alien life,” he feels.

style-sheet-with-colours-and-col-width_95ff88f2-3260-11e7-9a1e-ae80039293d8.jpg

But he also throws the gauntlet to ufologists.

“The UFO phenomenon is real from a research perspective. The problem is how people go about it. If you look at everything as alien, you’re better calling yourself a flying saucer investigator,” he reasons.

A long discussion touches upon everything from cattle mutilations to the Kardashev Scale, which hypothesises that the most intelligent civilisations can harness energies on a galactic – even cosmic – scale to partake in astral travel.

There’s a lot Pushkar Vaidya believes in. What he’s waiting for is substantiation.

“As they say in The X-Files: ‘I wanted to believe, but the tools have been taken away’,” he smiles.

Dancing UFOs Hula Over Honolulu

Dancing UFOs Hula Over Honolulu

Were these drones? Creative (if not lazy) editing? Or the real thing? Our expert weighs in.

565beae921000065005abc31.jpeg
EARTH AND SPACE NEWS / YOUTUBE

Almost every day, new UFO images and videos are posted all over the Internet for everyone to see. Here’s one that, at first glance, may have you believing a fleet of otherworldly orbs were captured on video, maneuvering in wild patterns somewhere near Honolulu, Hawaii.

At least that’s what it looks like in the following video, posted on Oct. 21, 2015, by YouTube channel Earth & Space News. The UFOs — for lack of a better word at the moment — are seen hovering, moving rapidly, darting back and forth, merging with each other, blinking in and out in unison. That’s more than you normally get in a UFO video.

While this may appear to be incredible footage of strange lights in the sky, there are some credibility questions here.

First, the identity of the alleged videographer or the exact date and time of the video are not revealed. No information is offered that could help any research effort to learn more about this incident. But the video itself is riddled with visual problems.

“I would say this is definitely CGI [computer-generated imagery],” according to Ben Hansen, the former lead investigator of Syfy Channel’s “Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files.”

Hansen points out several segments of the video that have reliability issues.

“At :26 in, the orb on the far left takes a short jog back and forth that didn’t look like it was intended. This happens throughout the video. It looks like evidence of poor anchoring of the object to a fixed reference point,” Hansen told HuffPost in an email.

“They do an OK job with tracking the animation layer over the background, but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the video was also filmed off a projected screen of some sort to give the impression of zooming in and out with a handheld camera.”

And what about all those moments when the alleged UFOs appear to suddenly blink out and then come right back, sometimes doing it simultaneously?

“The fact that the blinking lights usually all go out at the same time might indicate a laziness in editing,” Hansen, an ex-FBI special agent, suggests. “It’s much easier to turn off a whole animation layer than it is to take the time to individually adjust each light to fade in and out.”

And there were weird interactions between the “orbs” and some clouds.

“They had some problems with clouds and rotoscoping (telling the software what objects to treat as separate layers). At 4:50, an orb is traveling upward through the cloud. It disappears through the edge of it as if it was behind the cloud. Yet, it then travels straight down, and now it’s on top of the cloud. They either forgot it was supposed to travel behind it, or they just got lazy and didn’t think it would be noticed.”

Another visual problem occurs with the clouds. If you watch closely, you’ll notice how (around the 6:20 mark), as the horizon sometimes bounces up and down, from camera movement, the clouds above it stay in the same place. Shouldn’t they bounce as well?

One final issue should at least be mentioned. The following double image shows an identical moment from the video, with one interesting difference: The image on the left was posted by Earth & Space News on Oct. 21 of this year. The right side picture comes from another YouTube channel, FindingUFO, which posted a shortened version of the entire video on March 14, 2013.

EARTH AND SPACE NEWS (LEFT) FINDINGUFO (RIGHT)

While the YouTube channels offered the same video more than two-and-a-half years apart, they both neglected to provide any extra identifying information about its origin.

Don’t believe every UFO image or video you see.

IS THIS THE REAL REASON WHY THE ANCIENTS BUILT THOUSANDS OF PYRAMIDS?

IS THIS THE REAL REASON WHY THE ANCIENTS BUILT THOUSANDS OF PYRAMIDS?

An interesting fact about our world are the countless pyramids that we can find among many different countries. One important questions that many researchers have asked is why did the ancient people erect there structures with this particular pyramidal shape.

One scientist may have have found the reason behind the pyramids existence in many cultures. According to his research, the pyamids have beneficial properties to the region around it and the people in contact with it.

It's energy can boost healing capabilities of living beings making the immune system stronger and regeneration better overall. It can even affect moods eliminating violent tendencies and producing good mental energies. Pyramids can also serve as power stations spreading energy across several electronic components. Weather is also affected, as well as the ozone around it and reduction of seismic activity.

What other benefits does it have? How did the ancients knew about the power of the pyramids?

MIND-BLOWING VIDEO OF UFO OVER MEXICAN HIGHWAY GOES VIRAL

MIND-BLOWING VIDEO OF UFO OVER MEXICAN HIGHWAY GOES VIRAL

If this video is real, it’s got to be one of the best ones we’ve seen this year.

One lucky witness was able to capture footage of a slow moving dark disc over a busy highway in Morelia, Mexico. And since he was driving at the same time, we have to commend him for multitasking.

The mysterious craft exhibits almost graceful movements and is completely silent, which is a strong indication that the object is of extraterrestrial origins.

According to the witness, the event took place on March 27 on a highway north of the city of Morelia in the state of Michoacán.

  • “DUE TO THE TRAFFIC I COULD NOT MAKE A LONGER RECORDING,” SAID CARLOS ARRIOLA, THE MAN WHO FILMED THE UFO
After analyzing the video, I can offer two conclusions: the object seems real and it looks like there’s a booger on the steering wheel.

This could be a sign that the god Horus is alive and well. If thats true, then he/she is probably just an alien species that came to earth long ago to indulge its own ego, then left when it had its full. Apparently its still got its eye on Earth, but I think people will be less willing today to follow Horus than they were 3,000 years ago.

News states:

An amateur photographer was left dumbstruck when he captured a striking eye-shaped cloud creating a rather chilling spectacle in the sky above his home. Father-of-two Graham Telford spotted the unusual meteorological sighting looming over Leeds, Yorkshire, on Wednesday. The 46-year-old said he couldn't help feeling like 'he was being watched' while photographing the peculiar formation. Conspiracy theorists and cloud watchers alike have since claimed the cloud is the 'eye of god' or proof of government surveillance.

UFOs can cloak to hide themselves from us, but there in one thing no UFO can hide from...an infrared camera. The camera at night makes its own IR light shooting out of it with IR LEDs and captures everything that passes in front of it. Here the objects are two glowing entities that come down low to investigate the persons yard. Such UFOs are invisible to the naked eye, but infrared cameras and night vision cameras will catch them.

Scott C. Waring

Eyewitness states:

Checking my home camera footage last night, before formatting my storage card, when I came across the attached 4 images. The object set off my camera, so it had to have been within about 45 ft. The camera only fires when an object moves, therefore this thing was hovering and moving for over 40 mins. I don't recall anything about that night, but this did co-inside with my dog acting very strangely that Wed evening (a lot of dog in the neighborhood barking that evening) It wasn't until I pulled my camera images last night (5/5/17) that I put two and two together.

My hunting dog is part Coonhound and nothing usually phases her, with the exception of Coyotes!

The things I believe:
1. Not the moon - wrong place, wrong phase.
2. Not a plane - no other lights, can't hover. No sound.
3. Not a Drone - 2am, dark and flying through trees, no-one has that skill.
4. Helicopter - would have to be the front light, which meant it was flying backwards, and no other lights, no sound.
5. Close enough to activate the sensor on the camera over a 43 min duration.

If you want the camera for inspection, its all yours, but I'll need it back for my gate.

The camera time footage stamp is 1 hr off due to DST.

Green Energy Expert Says Aliens are Here to Help

Green Energy Expert Says Aliens are Here to Help

They’re not from the government – they’re from Pleiades, Betelgeuse and Andromeda – but they’re here to help. At least that’s what a British green energy expert claims after first writing a book about alien hybrids and then being introduced to and allegedly talking directly to aliens himself. And by “help,” he means to aid humans to “evolve into higher beings.” Can they hurry up already?

Miguel Mendonça is a Rhodesian-born author now residing in Bristol whose early works were based on his experience and research in renewable energy, especially with the World Future Council. He’s the author of “Feed-in Tariffs: Accelerating the Deployment of Renewable Energy” and co-author of “A Renewable World: Energy, Ecology, Equality.”

Miguel Mendonça

In 2015, Mendonça wrote “Meet the Hybrids – The Lives and Missions of ET Ambassadors on Earth,” a collection of interviews with eight people claiming to be alien hybrids which also included information for others who may suspect they have been abducted and possibly carry alien DNA. The hybrids – who claimed their DNA came from various alien species – were all given the same questions to answer. They all professed that the aliens they encountered were here to improve humans, primarily in a spiritual way.

This book was criticized for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the spiritual ‘New Age’ feel. Mendonça interviewed only the hybrids and not their relatives, friends or anyone associated with them. That could have been to protect them from ridicule. However, he also did not use a lie detector and asked none of them to submit to DNA testing or examination for implants. Finally, one of the alleged hybrids revealed that she had met with several of the others prior to the interviews.

That criticism could be why Mendonça wrote his new book, “Being with the Beings: The How and the Why of ET Contact.” In this one, he allegedly goes right to the source – real aliens like members of the Fajan Race from a planet in the Andromeda galaxy. They told him:

We are from a vibrational existence which is similar to what humans call the fifth dimension. Tthe exciting part is that Earth, and all living things on earth, are currently in a stage of wondrous evolution. This is a reason for the immense need for disclosure and willing reconnection with us – your cosmic brothers and sisters.

He also shares his alleged conversations with Sasha, a Pleiadian who tells him her species abducts and works with humans to help them transcend to a higher state of consciousness where there is a lack of ego and the physical body becomes irrelevant.

While this book again seems to promote an alien-New-Age philosophy, the emphasis on disconnecting with the physical body may be more important to Mendonça, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, a crippling disease that some abduction experts believe could be caused by alien encounters. Mendonça says that being around the aliens has made him feel better but has not changed his physical condition.

It would be nice if Miguel Mendonça was bringing real proof that aliens are here to help – governments don’’t seem to be doing too well at this. It would be nice if he found some aliens who could help with green energy, his other interest. It would be nice if he had real evidence of alien influence to make humans into a better species above and beyond just adopting some New Age principles. It would be even nicer if he was working with aliens who could cure multiple sclerosis, a terrible disease.

Perhaps he just hasn’t met the right one yet.

“Flying Triangle” UFOs & U.K.-U.S. Liaison

“Flying Triangle” UFOs & U.K.-U.S. Liaison

Since the 1980s, sightings of large, triangular-shaped UFOs have been reported throughout the world. They are usually described as being black in color, making a low humming noise, and very often with rounded – rather than angled – corners. The sheer proliferation of such reports has led some ufological commentators to strongly suspect that the Flying Triangles (as they have come to be known) are prime examples of still-classified aircraft, the development of which was secretly begun in the 1980s by elements of the U.S. Department of Defense. Others take the view that the FTs have extraterrestrial origins.

In March 1993 a series of Flying Triangle encounters occurred in British airspace that went on to have a profound effect on high-ranking sources within both the Royal Air Force and the Ministry of Defense. More importantly, it was that single wave of encounters that ultimately led the Ministry of Defense to liaise with their American counterparts to try and determine, once and for all, what the FTs really are. The story comes from one of those at the forefront of the study into the aforementioned sightings: Nick Pope, who, for three years (1991-1994), investigated UFO incidents for the Ministry of Defense.

While much has been written about the March 1993 cases (which some researchers believe were evidence of a real, unidentified phenomenon and others conclude was nothing more than a storm in a teacup), far less has been written about the U.S.-U.K. liaisons on the issues concerning the FTs. In the wake of the March 1993 FT wave, Nick Pope told me: “We decided that we couldn’t ignore the various rumors that were doing the rounds about a supposed Top Secret aircraft developed by the U.S. Government and called Aurora – or, indeed, any hypersonic and/or prototype aircraft operated by the Americans.

“There had been persistent rumors in the aviation world and among the UFO lobby that the SR71 Blackbird had been replaced by a hypersonic aircraft code-named Aurora and that that was what the Flying Triangles really were. I was well aware that there had been some interesting stories about visual and radar sightings around certain air bases; however, I hadn’t put much store in these rumors – not least because there had been some very definitive denials from the Americans.

“I know there’s a lot of cynicism about government and the military. And although officialdom may refuse to answer a question and may sometimes give a misleading answer, outright lying is incredibly rare. And when it does occur, if it’s uncovered it almost certainly leads to resignation. But with the March 1993 sightings – and in spite of the denials from the Americans that they were responsible for the Flying Triangles – we did contact them to make inquiries. This was because they have the responsibility pertaining to the U.S. presence in Britain. Those inquiries bore absolutely no fruit at all. The Americans said: ‘No. We can shed no light at all on the UFO sightings that have led to your inquiry.’”

Pope was able to disclose, however, that the liaison with the Americans was not without its moment of intrigue. “If anything,” he explained to me, “there was an interesting little hint that the Americans, too, were seeing these Flying Triangles over their territory. As we were making our inquiries, they turned the question around and wanted to know if our Royal Air Force had a triangular-shaped, hypersonic prototype aircraft of some sort. So, presumably, the Americans were having Flying Triangle sightings, too.

“But this was interesting, in light of the fact that the Americans supposedly got out of UFO investigations back in 1969 when the Air Force’s Project Blue Book closed down. Of course, you may not officially be in the UFO game, but you are certainly going to be aware of – and take an interest in – reports of structured craft in your airspace. So, essentially, we drew blanks with the Americans.”

Pope adds: “Bearing in mind that the Americans had inquired – at an official level, no less – if the British Royal Air Force had in its employ something broadly fitting the description of a Flying Triangle, and we had said ‘No,’ I still felt obliged to address the issue of whether or not the rumors about se }cret aircraft being flown by us were true. First, from my own knowledge of prototype aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and so on, the Triangles don’t fit into the typical pattern, and I’ll explain why. Where we do have such pieces of kit, they’re not tested over the heads of ‘Joe Public;’ they’re tested in a small number of clearly defined ranges and danger areas – mostly out at sea such as the Aberporth Range in Cardigan Bay.”

Pope also states on this highly-controversial matter: “You simply do not fly a prototype craft over a military base or wherever, and run the risk that someone will either (a) scramble a [Tornado] F-3 [aircraft] to try and intercept it; or (b) take a photograph of it which will end up on the front page of The Sun or Jane’s Defense Weekly. It’s simply not the way that things are done. We checked domestically anything that might have been flying. But if we’d have been poking our noses into something that didn’t concern us, the investigation would have been quietly switched off. In fact, the opposite happened. We were making big waves throughout the Royal Air Force, the Ministry of Defense and at an international level.”

Pope’s final word on the matter to me: “So, the domestic secret aircraft theory is interesting but it doesn’t hold water.”

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

In UFO conspiracy theories, Majestic 12 (or MJ-12) is the code name of an alleged secret committee of scientists, military leaders, and government officials, formed in 1947 by an executive order by U.S. President Harry S. Trumanto facilitate recovery and investigation of alien spacecraft. The concept originated in a series of supposedly leaked secret government documents first circulated by ufologists in 1984. Upon examination, the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) declared the documents to be “completely bogus”, and many ufologists consider them to be an elaborate hoax. Majestic 12 remains popular among some UFO conspiracy theorists and the concept has appeared in popular culture including television, film and literature.

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

The story of how the original MJ-12 papers came to light is an interesting look into the mindset of some of the leading UFO researchers, and an excellent example of the quality of UFO evidence that is acceptable to some people.

The concept of “Majestic Twelve” emerged during a period in the 1980s when ufologists believed there had been a cover-up of the Roswell UFO incident and speculated some secretive upper tier of the United States government was responsible. Their suppositions appeared to be confirmed in 1984 when ufologist Jaime Shandera received an envelope containing film which, when developed, showed images of eight pages of documents that appeared to be briefing papers describing “Operation Majestic Twelve”.

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

In December, 1984, Jaime Shandera, a Hollywood movie producer and UFO researcher, received an unusual package through the post. Inside was just one roll of undeveloped 35mm black and white film. There were no accompanying letter or return address, the only clue to where the package came from was by the postmark which was Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Once developed, the film contained negatives of what appeared to be an eight page briefing paper, prepared on 18th November, 1952, for president-elect Dwight D. Eisenhower. A warning on the first page read, ‘This is a TOP SECRET – EYES ONLY document containing compartmentalized information essential to the national security of the United States’. On page two was a list of 12 influential US scientists, military leaders and intelligence advisors. It was not until viewing page three that the subject of the papers became clear, ‘the recovery of a crashed flying saucer and alien bodies near Roswell, New Mexico, in July 1947’.

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

The final page of the briefing paper was a memorandum, dated 24th September,1947, from President Harry Truman to his secretary of Defence, James Forrestal. In it, Truman instructs Forrestal to proceed with ‘Operation Majestic-12’, but gives no hint at what that might be.

Alone, the Forrestal memo was meaningless. But when read next to the 1952 briefing paper, the story behind them became clear: in July 1947, a ‘flying disc-shaped aircraft’ crashed landed in Roswell, New Mexico, and ‘extra-terrestrial biological entities’ (EBEs) are recovered by the military. When President Truman is informed about the crash, he authorizes Defence Secretary Forrestal to set up a committee to investigate and deal with the situation.

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

In 1952, when Eisenhower becomes President-elect, he is briefed on Operation Majestic-12. The briefing paper lists the 12-man committee and gives details of the saucer crash. The final paragraph stresses the need to ‘avoid public panic at all costs’, confirming that the government is covering up the truth about UFOs.

The Majestic-12 documents consisted of an eight page briefing paper to President Eisenhower detailing a UFO crash at Roswell, New Mexico in 1947, another crash at El Indio, Texas in 1950, and listing the members of the government’s special Majestic-12 or “MJ-12” UFO group. It was dated “18 November, 1952”, and it named “Admiral” Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter as the briefing officer. There was also a memo from President Harry S Truman to Secretary of Defense Forrestal that authorized the creation of the MJ-12 group.

However, what is often ignored, glossed over, or has just been lost to obscurity, is the fact that the first mention of MJ-12 was in a document that was alleged by Richard Doty, an ex-special agent for the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), to have been created as disinformation. He says he gave the document to UFO researchers while he worked for AFOSI, and was order to do so by his superiors. He says this was only one incident in a campaign that lasted years.

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

Hesitant to take his word for it, I requested documents related to his claims from AFOSI via the Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA). The documents I received supported some of what he said, but told a different story. They do document the interactions with AFOSI and one UFO researcher, but do not include passing him disinformation. In fact, they say two New Mexico state senators requested information about the nature of their interaction with the UFO researcher, to which AFOSI replied they received his information, but did not engage in any sort of formal investigation.

The documents purported to reveal a secret committee of twelve, supposedly authorized by United States President Harry S. Truman in 1952, and explain how the crash of an alien spacecraft at Roswell in 1947 had been concealed, how the recovered alien technology could be exploited, and how the United States should engage with extraterrestrial life in the future.

Shandera and his ufologist colleagues Stanton T. Friedman and Bill Moore say they later received a series of anonymous messages that led them to find what has been called the “Cutler/Twining memo” in 1985 while searching declassified files in the National Archives. Purporting to be written by General Nathan F. Twining to President Eisenhower’s assistant Robert Cutler and containing a reference to Majestic 12, the memo is widely held to be a forgery, likely planted as part of a hoax. Historian Robert Goldberg wrote that the ufologists came to believe the story despite the documents being “obviously planted to bolster the legitimacy of the briefing papers”.

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

Moore, Shandera, and Friedman altered the appearance of the MJ-12 documents in their first release of the Focus newsletter to give the appearance of government censorship. They later had to admit that they did it themselves.

At the ON UFO Symposium Proceedings, “MJ-12 and Phil Klass: What are the facts?” by William L. Moore and Stanton T. Friedman: They included a reproduction of the mail packet addressed to Jaime Shandera. The bottoms of the postmarks were blackened out on all three postmarks. This would have shown the state and city that the mail packet was mailed in. In the presentation, Moore and Friedman stated the package “bore no return address”.

In reality, there was a return address. It was Albuquerque, NM! Guess who lived in Albuquerque, NM. Richard Doty- associate of William Moore! If the address had been shown, people might have started checking more on Doty. But Moore and Friedman stated that the package bore no return address.

Aside from the suspicious origins of the Majestic-12 papers, there are several problems with the documents themselves.

The Date: Military documents were formatted using strict guidelines, including the structure of dates. At the time the MJ-12 briefing was alleged to have been written, the format was day month year. No commas, no place-holding zeros. But the date in the MJ-12 document used a day month (comma) year format. This brief was supposedly generated at the very highest level of the military; a level that would not have made such a fundamental error in format.

Hillenkoetter’s Rank: The document refers to “Admiral” Hillenkoetter, when his true rank was REAR Admiral. In casual speech or among civilians this error might occur, but a military man would never make such an error. It was the military that wrote the brief.

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

Verbiage: Two terms used in the document were not in use during the 50’s. The word “media” to refer to the Press did not appear until the 70’s. Likewise the term “impacted”.

Security: The Cutler-Twining memo is stamped “Top Secret Restricted Information”. There was no such classification in 1954. Not until the Nixon era was this classification used.

Code Word MAJIC: This appears to be the code name assigned to this project. However, this would constitute a major violation of the code naming scheme used by the military for well over a decade.

Secure projects are assigned code names from a one-time use list that is shared by all parts of the military and civilian government bodies. Just prior to WWII, the code name MAGIC was assigned to the effort to break the high security Japanese diplomatic code. The project was still under the wraps of Top Secret in the early 50’s so it could not be “re-used”. Yet, here we have the term MAJIC being applied to the Majestic-12, an assignment that clearly could not happen.

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

MJ-12 proponents point to the different spelling, but the code list was constructed to avoid phonetic similarities that could cause confusion in oral communications. It would appear that the author(s) of the Majestic briefing papers were conscious of the newly de-classified story of the MAGIC operation when this was concocted.

There are several other points that one might accurately call minor, but when you take all these errors together in one set of documents, the coincidence level redlines.

MAJESTIC 12 : Forbidden Story

The most spectacular new MJ-12 document was posted in 1994 to Don Berliner, a longtime UFO investigator and science writer. The anonymous roll of film contained 23 pages of a ‘Majestic-12 Group Special Operations Manual’, dated April, 1954. It was a detailed instruction manual entitled ‘Extra-terrestrial Entities and Technology, Recovery and Disposal’.

Because most of the MJ-12 documents are on film, the original paper or ink cannot be analysed. However there are many factual details that can be checked, such as the background of the 12 members of the committee, the dates of meetings, the style and format of similar documents, and the validity of the signatures. Clearly, MJ-12 had an all-star cast, as well as Secretary of Defence Forrestal, there were the first three Directors of Central Intelligence, an Air Force General, an Army General, the Secretary of the Army and five of the US’s most influential scientists. This was the cream of the US’s military, scientific and intelligence communities. If there was to be a top-secret government group investigating UFOs, this would have been it.

Will we know alien life when we see it?

Will we know alien life when we see it?

This is the third in a three-part series on the search for extraterrestrial life.

In a 1967 episode of Star Trek, Captain Kirk and his crew investigated the mysterious murders of miners on the planet Janus VI. The killer, it turned out, was a rock monster called the Horta. But the Enterprise’s sensors hadn’t registered any sign of life in the creature. The Horta was a silicon-based life-form. That made it different from any on Earth where everything is carbon-based.

Still, it didn’t take long to determine that the Horta was alive. The first clue was that it skittered about. Spock closed the case with a mind meld. He learned that the creature was the last of its kind, protecting a throng of eggs.

But recognizing life on different worlds isn’t likely to be this simple. It could prove especially hard if the recipe for life elsewhere does not include familiar ingredients. There may even be things alive on Earth that have been overlooked because they don’t fit standard definitions, some scientists suspect. The scientists that look for life outside Earth are called astrobiologists. They need some ground rules — with some built-in wiggle room — to know when they can confidently declare, “It’s alive!”

Among people working out those rules is Christoph Adami. He is a theoretical physicist at Michigan State University in East Lansing. He has watched his own version of silicon-based life grow. That life wasn’t real, though. It was a computer simulation.

“It’s easy when it’s easy,” Adami says. “If you find something walking around and waving at you, it won’t be that hard to figure out that you’ve found life.” But chances are, the first aliens that humans encounter won’t be little green men. They will probably be tiny microbes of one color or another — or perhaps no color at all.

Scientists are trying to figure out how they might recognize those alien microbes. It could be really hard if the microbes are very strange. This has led researchers to propose some basic criteria for distinguishing living from nonliving things.

Many insist that certain features must be present for any type of life, including aliens. These include an active metabolism, reproduction and evolution. Others add the requirement that life must have cells big enough to contain protein-building machines called ribosomes (RY-boh-soams).

Will we know alien life when we see it?
Defining “life” isn’t straightforward. A virus, such as this Ebola virus, by most definitions is not alive (although some scientists have argued that it is).

But such definitions can be overly strict. Making a list of needed criteria for life may give scientists tunnel vision, says Carol Cleland at the University of Colorado Boulder. That narrow vision could blind them to the diversity of life across the cosmos.

Some scientists, for instance, say viruses aren’t alive because they rely on their host cells to reproduce. But Adami has “no doubt” that viruses live. “They don’t carry with them everything they need to survive,” he acknowledges. “But neither do we.” What’s important, Adami argues, is that viruses transmit genetic information from one generation to another. And at its simplest, he contends, life is just information that reproduces itself.

Evolution should be off the table, too, Cleland says. After all, people would likely never be around long enough to tell whether something is evolving.

Even restrictions on cell sizes may squeeze the tiniest microbes out of consideration as aliens. Yet it shouldn’t, argues Steven Benner. He’s an astrobiologist at the Foundation for Applied Molecular Evolution in Alachua, Fla. A cell too tiny to contain ribosomes may operate another way. Instead of proteins, it might use genetic material known as RNA to carry out biochemical reactions, he speculates.

Cells have been thought necessary because they separate one organism from another. But layers of clay could do that, Adami suggests. Cleland proposes that life might even exist as networks of chemical reactions — ones that don’t require any separation at all.

It’s fantastical thinking. But that may just be what it takes for scientists to recognize unusual types of life, should such aliens turn up.

Up close and personal

In recent years, more than 1,000 planets have been spotted outside our solar system. With their discovery, the odds favoring the existence of alien life are better than ever. But even the most powerful telescopes can’t image distant life, especially if its microscopic. Chances of finding such tiny life improves if scientists can reach out and touch it.

And that means looking within our solar system, says Robert Hazen. He’s a a scientist who studies minerals, working at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C.

“You really need a rover down on its hands and knees analyzing chemicals,” he says. Such rovers are now sampling rocks on Mars. The Cassini space probe has bathed in the geysers spewing from Saturn’s icy moon Enceladus. Such robot explorers may one day send back signs of life. But only subtle signs of life — what scientists call “biomarkers.” And it may be very hard to tell true biomarkers apart from just some mineral, he notes, especially at a distance.

“We really need to have life be as obvious as possible,” says Victoria Meadows. By obvious, she partly means Earth-like. She also partly means that this signal must be one that no chemical or geologic process alone could have left behind. Meadows is an astrobiologist with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. She heads its Virtual Planetary Laboratory at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Some scientists say life is an “I’ll know it when I see it” phenomenon, says Kathie Thomas-Keprta. But life also may be in the eye of the beholder. Thomas-Keprta knows this all too well from studying a Martian meteorite. She is a planetary geologist. She was part of a team at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston that studied a meteorite named ALH84001. (It was discovered in Antarctica’s Allan Hills ice field in 1984.)

The team was led by Thomas-Keprta’s late colleague David McKay. In 1996, the scientists claimed that carbonate globules embedded in the meteorite looked a bit like microscopic life on Earth. The researchers found large organic (carbon-based) molecules. That indicated they formed at the same time. Thomas-Keprta also identified tiny crystals of magnetite overlapping the globules. These iron-based crystals looked much like ones made by certain bacteria on Earth. Such bacteria use chains of the crystals as a compass as they swim in search of nutrients.

In the end, the scientists concluded they were looking at fossils of ancient Martians.

Other scientists disagreed. The globules and crystals might have formed through other processes, critics said — with no life needed.

That initial claim of fossil Martians has now been widely dismissed.

But you may not need to leave our planet to find aliens. There’s the possibility of shadow life on Earth. It could be so strange that it has so far gone unrecognized, posits Cleland at the University of Colorado. Consider, she says, “desert varnish.”

These are the dark stains on the sunny sides of some rocks in super-dry climates. Some scientists think certain bacteria or fungi might be responsible. Odd, communal microbes could be sucking energy out of the rocks. They might use this energy to fuel their creation of that hard outer coat of minerals. Such organisms might produce the varnish by cementing iron and manganese to clay and silicate particles.

Curious, some scientists have tried to re-create desert varnish in the lab. They used fungi and bacteria. And they failed.

In the wild, those varnishes form over millennia. Critics have argued that this is too slow to be something created by microbes. But how do we know, Cleland asks? “We have an assumption that life on Earth has a pace,” she says. Some shadow life may instead grow far more leisurely.

Mineral distortions

To find life, and classify it correctly, look for the odd thing out, suggests Hazen. He is looking for messages in minerals. Minerals do not occur evenly across the landscape. There are 4,933 recognized minerals on the planet, Hazen says. He and his crew have mapped the locations of 4,831 of them. And 22 percent of these exist in only one site. Close to 12 percent more occur in just two places.

One reason for this skewed distribution is that as life has evolved, it has used local resources, turning them into new minerals. Take for example hazenite. (Yes, it’s named for Hazen.) This phosphate-based mineral is found only in California’s Mono Lake. Microbes living there are its only source. Other species may have led to similarly rare pockets of some mineral, Hazen’s group suspects.

Finding such odd distributions of minerals on other planets or moons might indicate that life exists there, or once did. Hazen has advised NASA on how rovers might identify such mineral clues to life on Mars.

Mars was once wet. It still has occasional running water. That shows it may once have been capable of hosting life. This and other evidence in 2013 led Benner, of the Foundation for Applied Molecular Evolution, to suggest that Mars may have seeded the life now on Earth. Whether that idea holds up may depend on finding Martians.

But Benner doesn’t seem worried. “I would be surprised now if they don’t find life on Mars,” he says.

Missions could easily bring astronauts to Mars to confirm a suspected find, says Dirk Schulze-Makuch. He’s an astrobiologist at Washington State University in Pullman. “If someone with a microscope sees a microbe and it “is wiggling and waving back, that’s really hard to refute,” he jokes.

Going for the less obvious

But humans and even probes may have a harder time spotting life on more distant or exotic locales. Prime targets are the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. E.T. hunters are attracted to Europa and Enceladus because their liquid oceans slosh beneath icy crusts.

Liquid water is thought to be necessary for many of the chemical reactions that could support life. But water is actually a terrible solvent for building complex molecules on which life could be based, Schulze-Makuch notes. Instead, he thinks really alien aliens might have spawned at hot spots deep in the hydrocarbon lakes of Titan, Saturn’s biggest moon. “Whether you can get all the way to life, we don’t know,” he says.

Will we know alien life when we see it?
Life on Saturn’s moon Titan could exist within nitrogen-containing structures called azotosomes. This is an artist’s representation of what such virus-sized particles might look like, with a piece cut away to see its hollow interior.
James Stevenson

Perhaps the biggest challenge for Titanic life is the extreme cold, says Paulette Clancy. She’s a chemical engineer at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. This moon is so frosty that its methane — a gas on balmy Earth — is a viscous, almost-frozen liquid. And water, she says, “would be like a rock.” Under those conditions, she notes, organisms with Earth-like chemistry wouldn’t stand a chance. For one thing, the membranes that hold in an Earth cell’s guts wouldn’t work on Titan.

But Clancy and her colleagues simulated experiments under Titan-like conditions. And certain short-tailed molecules could spontaneously create stable bubbles, they found. Those bubbles are similar to cell membranes.

Like desert varnish, life on Titan may grow slowly. There is little sunlight or heat. Its frigid temperatures would keep chemical reactions sluggish. So if life were to exist here, Schulze-Makuch imagines it would have lifespans perhaps millions of years long. Organisms might reproduce — or even breathe — just once every thousand years!

With so many options out there, Clancy predicts that there are several planets or moons with life on them. Many other researchers are also optimistic that life is out there to find. In the future, astrobiologists may come face-to-face with E.T. And when they do, they might even recognize it for what it is.

To accomplish the third feat, the object must be big enough to have pulled neighboring objects into the planet itself or to have slung them around the planet and off into outer space. Astronomers of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) created this three-part scientific definition of a planet in August 2006 to determine Pluto’s status. Based on that definition, IAU ruled that Pluto did not qualify. The solar system now includes eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

theoretical     An adjective for an analysis or assessment of something that based on pre-existing knowledge of how things behave. It is not based on experimental trials. Theoretical research tends to use math — usually performed by computers — to predict how or what will occur for some specified series of conditions.

unique     Something that is unlike anything else; the only one of its kind.

universe     The entire cosmos: All things that exist throughout space and time. It has been expanding since its formation during an event known as the Big Bang, some 13.8 billion years ago (give or take a few hundred million years).

viscous     The property of being thick, sticky and hard to pour. Molasses and maple syrup are two examples of viscous liquids.

American Indians Have No Fear Of Aliens. Here’s Why

American Indians Have No Fear Of Aliens. Here’s Why

Deeply spiritual cultures remember a time when “people from the stars” freely interacted with members of the human species.

Before intrepid and greedy Europeans ‘discovered’ the Americas, the land was populated by a variety of cultures encompassing millions of souls. Sadly, the near-annihilation of Native Americans has also meant the disappearance of ancient knowledge that we might never win back.

Therefore, it is fortunate that the efforts of the survivors have included the passing down of stories from time immemorial and many of these talk about the “Star People”, a   term that groups various beings who came from the sky to share a connection with humans who were worthy of their teachings.

The ancient world was in contact with a multitude of advanced extraterrestrials, as evidenced by the rich collection of stories detailing these interactions. Many cultures separated by thousands of years refer narratives of flying objects and technology so advanced it could have well been magic. These stories are particularly strong within the mythos of the Native American tribes.

“My people tell of Star People who came to us many generations ago,” Richard Wagamese of the Wabaseemoong First People writes. “The Star people brought spiritual teachings and stories and maps of the cosmos and they offered these freely. They were kind, loving and set a great example. When they left us, my people say there was a loneliness like no other.”

He continues:

“If Star People did come to the Ojibway, where did they go? Where did they come from? Who brought teachings to them? What scientific magic did they own that allowed them to make such an incredible journey – and is it possible for us?”

The peaceful Hopi people believed their ancestors came from the Pleiades and the general demeanor of Pleiadian aliens is reflected in the Hopi lifestyle. Could this mean their genesis stories hold truth in them? It sure seems so

Dakota legends make reference to the same star cluster – Tiyami they called them – as being their ancestor’s primal home.

Similarly, the Cree believed that in a time before history, their ancestors arrived from the stars in spirit form, only to become humans on Earth.

Native legends of the Lakota people speak of mysterious celestial beings that manifested themselves as spheres of light and would often choose particular children to follow them on a journey through space and time.

Native Americans perceive the issue of alien visitation and even abduction in a more spiritual manner, as Plains Cree author Stephane Wuttunee explains in a UFO digest article:

[My people] “give far greater attention to the seeking of the spiritual understanding of things rather than going after “the truth” as people from dominant cultures do. This is part of the reason why we tend to stand back and view or listen at first rather than bare in with questions or take the hard, direct approach.”

Growing up in a tightly-knit community, Wuttunee listened carefully to the stories passed down by the Elders of his tribe. They told of “distant relations and Star People living amongst the stars many times, mainly around campfires and during traditional ceremonies.”

Far from being anything to be feared, Star People was just another term I grew up around,”Wuttunee writes. “I remember listening in awe and fascination at the thought of us having relations that lived off and outside our world, and sometimes spoke to them in my silent moments at night. I wanted to know who they were and what they looked like, if they had families like us etc.[…] It wasn’t until my later teens that I discovered that people from the dominant cultures were talking about the same “people” as my elders did, though each side’s sense of perception of these people seemed radically different from one another.”

Do you suspect these words to be the result of ancient traditions tainted by the recent ancient alien phenomenon? Congrats for being a critical thinker, but Native Americans have been mentioning “flying shields” for a long time.

Black Elk (1863-1950), an Oglala Sioux holy man who toured with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show when he was young described one of his experiences, way before the UFO phenomenon had become bastardized by mass-media:

“So when I went to vision quest, that disk came from above. The scientists call that a…Unidentified Flying Object, but that’s a joke, see? Because they are not trained, they lost contact with the wisdom, power and gift.”

“So that disk landed on top of me. It was concave, and there was another one on top of that. It was silent, but it lit and luminesced like neon lights. Even the sacred robes there were luminesced, and those tobacco ties lying there lit up like little light bulbs.”

“Then these little people came, but each little group spoke a different language. They could read minds, and I could read their minds. I could read them. So there was silent communication. You could read it, like when you read silent symbols in a book. So we were able to communicate…They are human, so I welcomed them. I said, “Welcome, Welcome…”

Here we have the written, unambiguous testimony of pivotal figure in the Sioux culture, a legendary man who was the cousin of Crazy Horse, telling us about his interaction with extraterrestrial beings aboard their luminous UFO.

Without exception, all Native American tribes foster an umbilical connection with Mother Earth. They see themselves as the “original caretakers” of our planet and lament the path to destruction we’re currently on. Many tribal figures see this as the primary reason behind the weakening of the bond between humanity and the Star People.

But at the same time, this implies that a global shift in our attitude towards the place we call home could rekindle this dwindling connection.

So maybe that’s where all the good aliens are: out of sight, waiting for us to come into our senses.

The 15 Best Free Science Fiction Movies on YouTube, Ranked

The 15 Best Free Science Fiction Movies on YouTube, Ranked

Just when you thought you've seen it all.

Cassie Kelly

Free Movies

Getting your science fiction fix can be tricky without Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, or that thing called basic cable. After some digging, we found streaming services aren’t the only ones with a plethora of sci-fi films available; YouTube has a selection of free movies for your viewing pleasure.

1. The Mars Underground

Robert Zubrin, aerospace engineer and founder of The Mars Society, had some wild ideas for getting humans to Mars back in 2007, which 10 years later makes much more sense. Once we’ve landed, Zubrin discusses civilization and how humans will use the soil to build tools, plant crops, produce oxygen, and eventually populate the planet with the first true martians.

2. I’ll Follow You Down

Erol, played by Haley Joel Osment (yeah, the kid from The Sixth Sense, Forrest Gump, and Pay It Forward), learns that his father time travelled to 1946 to meet Albert Einstein and never came back. As the title suggests, the son follows his dad through time to bring him home. Thrilling, chilling, and probably more heartwarming than your usual sci-fi film, the story will make you think about what it means to exist in this multidimensional universe we call home.

3. The Machine

Two computer programmers engineer a humanoid machine that may just be “too human.” Of course, the Ministry of Defense steals and weaponizes the technology, setting it off on a killing spree. This part sci-fi, part thriller won a slough of awards, including a few BAFTA awards for Best Film, Best Original Music, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hair.

4. Battle Beyond the Stars

In this 1980 fantasy, a farmer on a fictional planet called Akir forms an army to fend off Sador, who is basically an evil mutant warlord. The infamous B-movie is a cross between Star Wars and something really bad, but it has gained a cult following in the past decade, mostly for the nostalgia of horrible special effects and cheesy one-liners.

5. The Day the Earth Stood Still

Now this is a true classic. The 1951 blockbuster is a futuristic twist on the Cold War era. An alien and a robot visit Earth to tell humans to stop being so destructive, or their planet will be destroyed. The epic film won a Golden Globe in 1952 for Best Film Promoting International Understanding — discontinued by the Academy in 1964 — and continued on to gain a slot at the OFTA Film Hall of Fame.

6. Algorithm

The tagline for this film says it all: “The geeks have inherited the Earth… the rest of you just don’t know it yet.” A hacker stumbles upon a secret government computer program and is incidentally sucked into the revolution. Although the plot seemed genius, the execution was not. The movie got terrible reviews and ratings. It’s a wonder why hackers haven’t gone in to change it yet.

7. The Drift

This one gets credit for being super low budget and for faster-than-light space crystals, which allow humans to travel the stars effortlessly. Eventually a “dark wave” wipes out the power of the crystals, leaving humans drifting (get it?) aimlessly around the universe. 20 years later, a vessel with alive humans arrives at a spaceship graveyard where they find some pretty spooky things. Understanding it was made for only 5000 pounds, you might grow to appreciate it.

8. Lost: Black Earth

This Australian indie flick took five years to make because all of the actors were volunteers and could only work on the weekends. After total destruction by an alien empire, Earth is failing to revive itself via terraforming technology. Then four rebels join forces to take down the alien overlords. In addition to being available on YouTube, this 2004 film’s success also boasts an award for Best Sound at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival.

9. Avalon: Beyond the Abyss

If you thought the Mayan calendar was foretelling doomsday in 2012, then this movie is perfect for you. When a remote island blows up and begins leaking a poisonous black algae into the ocean, marine biologists come to the rescue. Melding ancient history and science into one, this sci-fi thriller will have you fearing the apocalypse all over again.

10. The Darwin Conspiracy

In The Darwin Conspiracy, a scientist discovers a frozen humanoid who is unexpectedly advanced and whose DNA could potentially start a super-human race. Despite being written by Glen A. Larson (Battlestar Galactica, Magnum, P.I.), this 1999 film is situated on the better end of the YouTube scale.

11. Attack of the Giant Leeches

In this black-and-white classic, produced in 1959, a doctor and a drunken game hunter discover giant leeches eating humans in a local swamp. It takes rounding up the entire police force before they can do anything about it. The movie is funny nowadays but was a real horror back then.

12. Zombie Night

The whole point of zombie movies is to laugh at how dumb the living are and to look at the great make up/special effects, and this movie has both. There is really no plot but for the characters to survive. Topped off with star-quality screams and a mediocre script, this is the perfect zombie movie for a Friday night in.

13. Alien Uprising

This sci-fi thriller follows a group of friends into the alien apocalypse. Huge spaceships descend onto earth, shutting down power and communication and sending humans into a frenzied panic. The reviews are pretty awful, but special effects and a love of chaos might be all you need to get into this film.

14. Battlespace

This movie was ahead of its time with a female protagonist leading the show. Sure, the acting isn’t great, the cinematography is truly awful, and the sound effects are horrendous, but seeing a lady kick butt and save the human race is pretty cool.

15. Darkening Sky

Boy Meets World’s Rider Strong stars in this sci-fi meets horror movie. Following a dream about an alien abduction, he wakes up to find his girlfriend missing. Oddly enough, he is a grad student studying UFOs and mythology, so he uses ~brain power~ to solve the mystery.

Watch Cassini Plunge Toward Saturn in This Astonishing NASA Video

Watch Cassini Plunge Toward Saturn in This Astonishing NASA Video

Monica Hunter-Hart

On April 26, NASA’s Cassini space probe took a bold dive toward the surface of Saturn, getting closer than any spacecraft had before. Scientists have already learned a lot from Cassini’s plunge, such as the fact that the gas giant’s ring gap is completely empty. That’s pretty cool, but here’s something even more astounding: You can now watch Cassini’s descent in a video made from the images it took.

That’s right, you can see what it’s like to fly toward the face of Saturn.

The photos were captured over the course of an hour as Cassini moved both toward the planet and southward over it. The first pictures are of Saturn’s whirling north pole vortex; next they show the probe moving over the edge of Saturn’s famous hexagon-shaped cloud pattern (which is wider than the diameter of two Earths, and is formed by a jet stream around the pattern’s perimeter) and further down the planet.

“I was surprised to see so many sharp edges along the hexagon’s outer boundary and the eye-wall of the polar vortex,” said Kunio Sayanagi of the Cassini imaging team in a press release. “Something must be keeping different latitudes from mixing to maintain those edges.”

Now, you may think the pixelation isn’t great, but that’s just because you’re used to footage from cameras that shoot objects at a much closer range. At the start of the video, Cassini is 45,000 miles higher than Saturn’s clouds, and even by the end it’s still 4,200 miles above them. The smallest resolvable features in the shot are 5.4 miles per pixel at the start of the video and 0.5 miles per pixel at the finish.

But Andrew Ingersoll of the Cassini team did note that the camera settings used by the space probe this time were “conservative,” and added, “We plan to make updates to our observations for a similar opportunity on June 28 that we think will result in even better views.”

So, if you thought this video was neat, just wait for the images from Cassini’s next dive through the rings in late June.

Ancient Meteor Strike Triggered Eruptions Lasting Up to a Million Years

Ancient Meteor Strike Triggered Eruptions Lasting Up to a Million Years

A huge meteor that hit Earth about 2 billion years ago was responsible for explosive and long-lived volcanic eruptions, scientists have found.

A giant meteor impact on Earth nearly 2 billion years ago triggered more explosive and long-lived volcanic eruptions than previously thought, a new study finds.

This finding sheds light on how meteor bombardment may have dramatically shaped the evolution of the early Earth, researchers in the new study said.

Meteor strikes have left giant craters all over Earth. For instance, the cosmic impact that scientists think ended the age of dinosaurs about 66 million years ago left behind a crater more than 110 miles (180 kilometers) wide near the town of Chicxulub (CHEEK-sheh-loob) in Mexico. [In Photos: The Impact Craters of North America]

Gargantuan craters are seen pockmarking the rest of the solar system as well. Recent studies of such impact craters on the moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars suggested that meteor strikes could trigger volcanic activity.

To see what effects giant impacts might have had on the surface of the Earth, the researchers analyzed one of the oldest meteor craters on the planet, the 1.85-billion-year-old Sudbury basin in Canada. It's also the second-largest and best-preserved crater on Earth, measuring about 93 to 161 miles (150 to 260 km) in diameter. A 2015 study estimated that the crater may have been created by a comet about 9.3 miles (15 km) wide.

From 2013 to 2014, the scientists in the new study collected samples from the 0.93-mile-thick (1.5 km) layer of rock that filled the Sudbury crater. Although the crater is easy for researchers to get to, "there are lots and lots of blackflies in the spring, and later mosquitoes, and in the summer, there are a lot of blueberries, and so a lot of black bears," Kamber said.

The scientists examined 139 samples from 15 locations in the crater. Their analysis suggested that this material not only consisted of rock that had melted from the heat of the impact, but was also peppered with tiny fragments of volcanic rock.

The researchers noted that these volcanic rocks often had very distinctive angular shapes resembling crab claws. These shapes form when gas bubbles expand in molten rock that then catastrophically explodes, a feature of violent eruptions involving water, such as those seen under glaciers in Iceland, the researchers explained. They said these angular Sudbury volcanic rocks likely arose when seawater flooded the crater floor, either gradually or suddenly.

In addition, the scientists found that the composition of these volcanic-rock fragments varied in nature, with some originating from molten crust and others from "a deeper magma source," Kamber said. These findings suggested that the volcanic activity that created these rocks changed over time and was therefore prolonged, he said.

How long might this meteor-triggered volcanism have lasted? "I think 1 million years would have been an upper limit," Kamber said. "Hundreds of thousands of years is a more reasonable estimate."

These findings shed light on how meteors could have influenced the evolution of early Earth, Kamber said.

"About 3.8 billion to 4 billion years ago, we know the inner solar system experienced heavy bombardment from impactors," Kamber said. The oldest rocks on the planet coincide with the last peak of this bombardment, suggesting that "the older rocks on Earth were somehow destroyed by this bombardment," he said. "The bombardment alone would not have done sufficient damage to have caused the comprehensive loss of primordial rocks on Earth, but if that bombardment also triggered additional eruptions, that could have buried the primordial rocks and plowed them back into the mantle."

The scientists said they are now investigating whether the deep magma they detected in the crater came from the deep crust or from the mantle layer just beneath Earth's crust. They detailed their findings April 22 in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Planets.
