Something crashed near a road way in Mexico last week. Reported by Secureteam10 of Youtube, this video shows us the crater still smouldering from impact of an unknown object. The crater is 26 feet across according to reports, but what sits at the bottom of the crater has not been announced. We are still waiting for reports about what was found at the bottom. When this comes in, I will let you know immediately.

The following footage of a triangular craft has been recorded by a resident in Le Beausset in France on January 19, 2018.

The videographer states: I was in my garden, watching the sky as I often do. I saw two lights moving together very close to each other as I used to observe satellites there.

I thought it's not flashing so it's not a plane or a helicopter. There was no noise I could hear. It was not a satellite because the 2 lights are very low in altitude and my intuition tells me quickly take your phone and film.

I could not film very long because my gate is a little high and was locked.

When watching the video I realized the form I was filming and I thought it was strange. I was very excited and intrigued by what I was able to see and video. Source: www.mufon.com

If You Had a Human Head Transplant, Would You Still Be You?

Sergio Canavero is adamant that human head transplants will work. In fact, he claims that he could complete such a transplant within a year, and he says that he has the science to back it up. But does he?

Towards the end of 2017, Canavero’s project made headlines when the Italian surgeon claimed that he had actually already performed the procedure, which he calls the “head anastomosis venture” or HEAVEN. Subsequent reports determined that no such procedure took place and that the work was completed on corpses — many neuroscientists question whether even that much was really done.

Most scientists question whether there has been enough scientific progress to allow Canavero to perform such an operation next fall in China, as he claims he will do. In fact, they question whether research will make head transplants a viable option even in the foreseeable future. Richard L. Harvey, Northwestern University associate professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, sums the current consensus: “At this point, it would not be possible to connect the brainstem to the spinal cord in such a way as to get function. So if this were done, the person would be a [quadriplegic],” he told Futurism. “We can’t even repair spinal cords in patients with spinal cord injury, so we certainly can’t do that [successfully perform a head transplant].”

But that doesn’t mean that we will never be able to do one.

Ralph Adolphs, Bren Professor of Psychology, Neuroscience, and Biology from the division of the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), doesn’t rule out the possibility that a head transplant could be successful in the distant future, although the procedure would have to overcome substantial challenges. “I don’t see any impossibility in principle, so it’s conceivable it can be done in the future — but it will happen in small steps first, like curing paralyzed people, and you’ll be sure to hear about it as all the problems required are solved,” he told Futurism.

While, for the time being, a head transplant remains out of reach, if science does advance enough to perform one successfully, it will raise an array of new, mind-boggling questions.

A Sound Mind and Body

For starters, what happens to the transplanted head in the new body? Because of the way that other parts of the body impact our neurology and the way that we think and act, would joining a head with a new body create a new person altogether or would the head retain its former consciousness unaltered?

Recent studies have shown that mental activity can be influenced by forces outside of the brain. Researchers have been trying to put together a clearer picture of how the body’s microbiome — or bacterial ecosystem — affects how people think and feel. A study has shown how it’s possible for gut bacteria to communicate with microbes in the brain. A healthy gut microbiome, for instance, is said to have an effect on the development of anxiety or anxiety-like behavior.

With a human head transplant, the head would be introduced to a foreign microbiome through the new body. Would this affect how the person thinks?

“[D]ifferent gut bacteria may make you feel different, and therefore think a little differently, but they won’t directly make you think differently because all thinking happens in the brain, not the gut,” Adolphs said. “Different gut bacteria might make you more or less groggy or change your mood — just like if you had a cold or not. So I guess the answer is: slightly, and only indirectly, like how viruses or bacteria do when you have a cold.”

Assuming that a human head transplant could work, the patient would still need a significant period of recovery for brain activity to normalize. According to Adolphs, this recovery process would be two-fold. It would probably begin with the brain adapting to its new body. “Just like learning to ride a bicycle, you’ll need to learn how to walk and move your arms, and for that matter breathe and regulate your heartbeat,” he explained.

It would take several months for brain and body to integrate. However, “that means your brain will change,” Adolphs said. This change is comparable, on a smaller scale, to how people learn to play a musical instrument, and get better with practice — only in this case, it would be practicing to control a new body.

“[Y]ou would change as a person in a number of respects because of a massive reorganization in your brain as it learns to adapt to your new body […] There would be limits to this reorganization that depend, among other things, on age,” Adolphs added.

Felipe De Brigard, an assistant professor of psychology and neuroscience at the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience of Duke University’s Institute for Brain Sciences, has a more radical perspective on the issue. He told Futurism that “it is unlikely that all of our psychological traits are uniquely dependent upon the cells confined within our head — it is likely that many of our psychological traits are dependent upon the informational transactions between our brain and our bodies. As such, a change in body would likely alter some of those psychological traits.” De Brigard admitted, however, that it’s not clear as to what extent a “new body” could alter psychological traits.

Post transplant

Arthur Caplan, founding head of the medical ethics division at the NYU School of Medicine, told Futurism that what would come after a successful head transplant would be as traumatic as the surgery itself. “Putting a new head in a body is a guarantee of madness at best. The new mind-body integration would never work,” Caplan said.

He asserts that this will be the likely outcome, as the brain would be flooded with chemicals and signals from the body that are foreign and unfamiliar.

Harvey explains that, if not to outright madness, the person who’d come out of such a surgery would be the person who owned the head. “So in a real way it would be a body transplant, not a head transplant,” he said to Futurism.

Kai G. Zinn, Howard and Gwen Laurie Smits Professor of Biology at Caltech BBE, seems to disagree with this assessment. “If it could be done, the brain itself would be the same. But since it would be connected to a different body the person would be very different,” he said.

Though they may disagree on the specifics, scientists agree that a human head transplant would be a cognitive nightmare and that the person who’d come out of such a procedure would be that person who owned the head, but with very different, and possibly damaged, brain functions.

Dr. Michio Kaku is a theoretical physicist, futurist, and popular science communicator. He’s also the author of “Physics of the Impossible,” has hosted radio programs and television specials on the BBC, the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, and the Science Channel, and most notably, is a co-founder of string field theory (a branch of string theory).

While he also does speaking engagements, many who are familiar with Kaku’s work have the internet to thank. He’s a frequent face on the Big Think YouTube channel and uses social media to bring the complex web of physics to the public in an educational and entertaining way.

While Kaku does not have a time machine, his understanding of physics and our place in the universe has given him a unique perspective on our past, present, and ultimately, our future. To the latter point, he’s had plenty of interesting things to say. Here are some of Kaku’s predictions about the future.

In December of 2016, Kaku made several predictions about the future, projecting five, 10, and even as far as 20 years ahead. His predictions and statements are derived both from his knowledge as a physicist and his interest in studying what might, or could, be.

Dr. Kaku kicked off 2017 by reminding everyone about the importance of science to human prosperity, as well as the integral role simple curiosity plays in scientific advancement. This sentiment echoes the idea that many brilliant ideas begin because our curiosities have been piqued. As a result, we ask a question and in our attempts to answer it, make discoveries along the way.

As part of the National Geographic series Year Million, Kaku explored what human life might look like one million years from now. The series showcases the expertise and opinions of scientists, science fiction writers, futurists, and scholars. Together with these experts, Dr. Kaku images what might be in Year Million — that is, if humans survive that long.

As a theoretical physicist, Dr. Kaku used the groundbreaking observation of gravitational waves to explore the future of astronomy.

Dr. Kaku has, at times, even questioned reality. Last year he wove physics observations and theories into a discussion about not only where we stand as humans in the universe, but what might we define as reality going forward.

Dr. Kaku’s predictions aren’t always theoretical, though. Last spring he used the instance of a nearby asteroid to discuss the possibility of asteroids greatly impacting life on Earth in the future.

More recently, Kaku made predictions about when we’ll confirm the existence of extraterrestrial life. His statements were in reference to a New York Times piece about a top-secret UFO program at the Pentagon. Kaku predicted we may not discover extraterrestrial life when or where we expect to, and that in such strange circumstances, it will be essential to keep an open mind. A sentiment that’s surely true for all areas of science.

From the potential destruction of Earth by an asteroid to the possibility of finally connecting with extraterrestrial life, Kaku’s predictions aren’t as wild as they may seem at first. They’re based on hard science and the most recent observations and understandings we have about our universe.

Kaku, nor anyone, can predict the future certainly. The best that he, or any of us, can do is take current information about science, the universe, and humanity, and figure out how all of these variables interact. Then, we can imagine a well-informed and comprehensive prediction about the future.

There is one thing Kaku is sure about, however: that climate change is a real threat to life on Earth, not just in terms of our future, but today. And that we can take action right now to make sure we reach that future, whatever it may hold.

Physicists are planning to build lasers so powerful they could rip apart empty space

Inside a cramped laboratory in Shanghai, China, physicist Ruxin Li and colleagues are breaking records with the most powerful pulses of light the world has ever seen. At the heart of their laser, called the Shanghai Superintense Ultrafast Laser Facility (SULF), is a single cylinder of titanium-doped sapphire about the width of a Frisbee. After kindling light in the crystal and shunting it through a system of lenses and mirrors, the SULF distills it into pulses of mind-boggling power. In 2016, it achieved an unprecedented 5.3 million billion watts, or petawatts (PW). The lights in Shanghai do not dim each time the laser fires, however. Although the pulses are extraordinarily powerful, they are also infinitesimally brief, lasting less than a trillionth of a second. The researchers are now upgrading their laser and hope to beat their own record by the end of this year with a 10-PW shot, which would pack more than 1000 times the power of all the world's electrical grids combined.

The group's ambitions don't end there. This year, Li and colleagues intend to start building a 100-PW laser known as the Station of Extreme Light (SEL). By 2023, it could be flinging pulses into a chamber 20 meters underground, subjecting targets to extremes of temperature and pressure not normally found on Earth, a boon to astrophysicists and materials scientists alike. The laser could also power demonstrations of a new way to accelerate particles for use in medicine and high-energy physics. But most alluring, Li says, would be showing that light could tear electrons and their antimatter counterparts, positrons, from empty space—a phenomenon known as "breaking the vacuum." It would be a striking illustration that matter and energy are interchangeable, as Albert Einstein's famous E=mc² equation states. Although nuclear weapons attest to the conversion of matter into immense amounts of heat and light, doing the reverse is not so easy. But Li says the SEL is up to the task. "That would be very exciting," he says. "It would mean you could generate something from nothing."

The Chinese group is "definitely leading the way" to 100 PW, says Philip Bucksbaum, an atomic physicist at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. But there is plenty of competition. In the next few years, 10-PW devices should switch on in Romania and the Czech Republic as part of Europe's Extreme Light Infrastructure, although the project recently put off its goal of building a 100-PW-scale device. Physicists in Russia have drawn up a design for a 180-PW laser known as the Exawatt Center for Extreme Light Studies (XCELS), while Japanese researchers have put forward proposals for a 30-PW device.

Largely missing from the fray are U.S. scientists, who have fallen behind in the race to high powers, according to a study published last month by a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine group that was chaired by Bucksbaum. The study calls on the Department of Energy to plan for at least one high-power laser facility, and that gives hope to researchers at the University of Rochester in New York, who are developing plans for a 75-PW laser, the Optical Parametric Amplifier Line (OPAL). It would take advantage of beamlines at OMEGA-EP, one of the country's most powerful lasers. "The [Academies] report is encouraging," says Jonathan Zuegel, who heads the OPAL.

Invented in 1960, lasers use an external "pump," such as a flash lamp, to excite electrons within the atoms of a lasing material—usually a gas, crystal, or semiconductor. When one of these excited electrons falls back to its original state it emits a photon, which in turn stimulates another electron to emit a photon, and so on. Unlike the spreading beams of a flashlight, the photons in a laser emerge in a tightly packed stream at specific wavelengths.

Because power equals energy divided by time, there are basically two ways to maximize it: Either boost the energy of your laser, or shorten the duration of its pulses. In the 1970s, researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in California focused on the former, boosting laser energy by routing beams through additional lasing crystals made of glass doped with neodymium. Beams above a certain intensity, however, can damage the amplifiers. To avoid this, LLNL had to make the amplifiers ever larger, many tens of centimeters in diameter. But in 1983, Gerard Mourou, now at the École Polytechnique near Paris, and his colleagues made a breakthrough. He realized that a short laser pulse could be stretched in time—thereby making it less intense—by a diffraction grating that spreads the pulse into its component colors. After being safely amplified to higher energies, the light could be recompressed with a second grating. The end result: a more powerful pulse and an intact amplifier.

This "chirped-pulse amplification" has become a staple of high-power lasers. In 1996, it enabled LLNL researchers to generate the world's first petawatt pulse with the Nova laser. Since then, LLNL has pushed to higher energies in pursuit of laser-driven fusion. The lab's National Ignition Facility (NIF) creates pulses with a mammoth 1.8 megajoules of energy in an effort to heat tiny capsules of hydrogen to fusion temperatures. However, those pulses are comparatively long and they still generate only about 1 PW of power.

To get to higher powers, scientists have turned to the time domain: packing the energy of a pulse into ever-shorter durations. One approach is to amplify the light in titanium-doped sapphire crystals, which produce light with a large spread of frequencies. In a mirrored laser chamber, those pulses bounce back and forth, and the individual frequency components can be made to cancel each other out over most of their pulse length, while reinforcing each other in a fleeting pulse just a few tens of femtoseconds long. Pump those pulses with a few hundred joules of energy and you get 10 PW of peak power. That's how the SULF and other sapphire-based lasers can break power records with equipment that fits in a large room and costs just tens of millions of dollars, whereas NIF costs $3.5 billion and needs a building 10 stories high that covers the area of three U.S. football fields.

Raising pulse power by another order of magnitude, from 10 PW to 100 PW, will require more wizardry. One approach is to boost the energy of the pulse from hundreds to thousands of joules. But titanium-sapphire lasers struggle to achieve those energies because the big crystals needed for damage-free amplification tend to lase at right angles to the beam—thereby sapping energy from the pulses. So scientists at the SEL, XCELS, and OPAL are pinning their hopes on what are known as optical parametric amplifiers. These take a pulse stretched out by an optical grating and send it into an artificial "nonlinear" crystal, in which the energy of a second, "pump" beam can be channeled into the pulse. Recompressing the resulting high-energy pulse raises its power.

To approach 100 PW, one option is to combine several such pulses—four 30-PW pulses in the case of the SEL and a dozen 15-PW pulses at the XCELS. But precisely overlapping pulses just tens of femtoseconds long will be "very, very difficult," says LLNL laser physicist Constantin Haefner. They could be thrown off course by even the smallest vibration or change in temperature, he argues. The OPAL, in contrast, will attempt to generate 75 PW using a single beam.

Mourou envisions a different route to 100 PW: adding a second round of pulse compression. He proposes using thin plastic films to broaden the spectrum of 10-PW laser pulses, then squeezing the pulses to as little as a couple of femtoseconds to boost their power to about 100 PW.

Once the laser builders summon the power, another challenge will loom: bringing the beams to a singularly tight focus. Many scientists care more about intensity—the power per unit area—than the total number of petawatts. Achieve a sharper focus, and the intensity goes up. If a 100-PW pulse can be focused to a spot measuring just 3 micrometers across, as Li is planning for the SEL, the intensity in that tiny area will be an astonishing 10²⁴ watts per square centimeter (W/cm²)—some 25 orders of magnitude, or 10 trillion trillion times, more intense than the sunlight striking Earth.

Those intensities will open the possibility of breaking the vacuum. According to the theory of quantum electrodynamics (QED), which describes how electromagnetic fields interact with matter, the vacuum is not as empty as classical physics would have us believe. Over extremely short time scales, pairs of electrons and positrons, their antimatter counterparts, flicker into existence, born of quantum mechanical uncertainty. Because of their mutual attraction, they annihilate each another almost as soon as they form.

But a very intense laser could, in principle, separate the particles before they collide. Like any electromagnetic wave, a laser beam contains an electric field that whips back and forth. As the beam's intensity rises, so, too, does the strength of its electric field. At intensities around 10²⁴ W/cm², the field would be strong enough to start to break the mutual attraction between some of the electron-positron pairs, says Alexander Sergeev, former director of the Russian Academy of Sciences's (RAS's) Institute of Applied Physics (IAP) in Nizhny Novgorod and now president of RAS. The laser field would then shake the particles, causing them to emit electromagnetic waves—in this case, gamma rays. The gamma rays would, in turn, generate new electron-positron pairs, and so on, resulting in an avalanche of particles and radiation that could be detected. "This will be completely new physics," Sergeev says. He adds that the gamma ray photons would be energetic enough to push atomic nuclei into excited states, ushering in a new branch of physics known as "nuclear photonics"—the use of intense light to control nuclear processes.

One way to break the vacuum would be to simply focus a single laser beam onto an empty spot inside a vacuum chamber. But colliding two beams makes it easier, because this jacks up the momentum needed to generate the mass for electrons and positrons. The SEL would collide photons indirectly. First, the pulses would eject electrons from a helium gas target. Other photons from the laser beam would ricochet off the electrons and be boosted into high-energy gamma rays. Some of these in turn would collide with optical photons from the beam.

Documenting these head-on photon collisions would itself be a major scientific achievement. Whereas classical physics insists that two light beams will pass right through each other untouched, some of the earliest predictions of QED stipulate that converging photons occasionally scatter off one another. "The predictions go back to the early 1930s," says Tom Heinzl, a theoretical physicist at Plymouth University in the United Kingdom. "It would be good if we could confirm them experimentally."

Besides making lasers more powerful, researchers also want to make them shoot faster. The flash lamps that pump the initial energy into many lasers must be cooled for minutes or hours between shots, making it hard to carry out research that relies on plenty of data, such as investigating whether, very occasionally, photons transform into particles of the mysterious dark matter thought to make up much of the universe's mass. "Chances are you would need a lot of shots to see that," says Manuel Hegelich, a physicist at the University of Texas in Austin.

A higher repetition rate is also key to using a high-power laser to drive beams of particles. In one scheme, an intense beam would transform a metal target into a plasma, liberating electrons that, in turn, would eject protons from nuclei on the metal's surface. Doctors could use those proton pulses to destroy cancers—and a higher firing rate would make it easier to administer the treatment in small, individual doses.

Physicists, for their part, dream of particle accelerators powered by rapid-fire laser pulses. When an intense laser pulse strikes a plasma of electrons and positive ions, it shoves the lighter electrons forward, separating the charges and creating a secondary electric field that pulls the ions along behind the light like water in the wake of a speedboat. This "laser wakefield acceleration" can accelerate charged particles to high energies in the space of a millimeter or two, compared with many meters for conventional accelerators. Electrons thus accelerated could be wiggled by magnets to create a so-called free-electron laser (FEL), which generates exceptionally bright and brief flashes of x-rays that can illuminate short-lived chemical and biological phenomena. A laser-powered FEL could be far more compact and cheaper than those powered by conventional accelerators.

In the long term, electrons accelerated by high-repetition PW pulses could slash the cost of particle physicists' dream machine: a 30-kilometer-long electron-positron collider that would be a successor to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland. A device based on a 100-PW laser could be at least 10 times shorter and cheaper than the roughly $10 billion machine now envisaged, says Stuart Mangles, a plasma physicist at Imperial College London.

Both the linear collider and rapid-fire FELs would need thousands, if not millions, of shots per second, well beyond current technology. One possibility, being investigated by Mourou and colleagues, is to try to combine the output of thousands of quick-firing fiber amplifiers, which don't need to be pumped with flash tubes. Another option is to replace the flash tubes with diode lasers, which are expensive, but could get cheaper with mass production.

For the moment, however, Li's group in China and its U.S. and Russian counterparts are concentrating on power. Efim Khazanov, a laser physicist at IAP, says the XCELS could be up and running by about 2026—assuming the government agrees to the cost: roughly 12 billion rubles (about $200 million). The OPAL, meanwhile, would be a relative bargain at between $50 million and $100 million, Zuegel says.

But the first laser to rip open the vacuum is likely to be the SEL, in China. An international committee of scientists last July described the laser's conceptual design as "unambiguous and convincing," and Li hopes to get government approval for funding—about $100 million—early this year. Li says other countries need not feel left in the shadows as the world's most powerful laser turns on, because the SEL will operate as an international user facility. Zuegel says he doesn't "like being second," but acknowledges that the Chinese group is in a strong position. "China has plenty of bucks," he says. "And it has a lot of really smart people. It is still catching up on a lot of the technology, but it's catching up fast."

Rock Star Tom DeLonge UFO Disclosure

It has been confirmed through Wikileaks that a partial UFO disclosure initiative was being prepared through rock Star

Tom DeLonge, who is being helped by two retired USAF Generals along with senior corporate officials such as the head of Lockheed Martin’s Skunkworks. Of all commandments in my opinion not killing is the most important. Interestingly extraterrestrials often promise abductees and contactees that when they take over on Earth killing of all kinds will stop and there will be no more wars or crime. The aliens indicate we are barbaric in our killing of innocents that includes animals and various life forms. Mexico’s drug wars have claimed more than 80,000 lives between 2006 and 2015, according to analyst estimates in the 2015 Congressional Research Service report. Beheadings, mass executions, public hangings and torture — it’s all part of the massive drug war next door. Fierce rivalries between Mexico’s drug cartels have wreaked havoc on the lives of civilians who have nothing to do with the drug trade. Bystanders, people who refused to join cartels, migrants, journalists and government officials have been killed. Mexican Cartels control the drug trade making an estimated 29 billion dollars profit per year enabling them to buy off politicians and key members of the news. Many US politicians show their opposition to building a wall that would slow the drug trade and help stop the slaughter.

Mexico is the provider of 70 % of the heroin to the United States, followed by Colombia to a much lesser degree.

Mexican-based transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) dominate the supply and wholesale distribution of most illicit drugs in the United States. About 70% of all illicit drugs consumed in the United States are trafficked through Mexico, TCOs, and have expanded their control over the drug-traﬃcking conducted by criminal street gangs in their respective territories. Mexican TCOs maintain the greatest drug traﬃcking impudence in the United States, with continued signs of growth and expansion. By controlling lucrative smuggling corridors, primarily across the Southwest Border, Mexican TCOs export signiﬁcant quantities of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and fentanyl into the U.S. annually. Once these illicit drugs are smuggled into the U.S., they are delivered to user markets through transportation routes and distribution cells that are managed or inﬂuenced by Mexican TCOs. Illegal immigrants are often forced to bring drugs into the US by the Mexican Cartels that control the border. Over the past several years, Mexican TCOs have expanded their sphere of inﬂuence into numerous regions of the United States.

The most signiﬁcant illicit drug threat posed to the US is by Mexican TCOs grown heroin, which dominate the wholesale supply of crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, Mexican-grown marijuana, and heroin.

A veritable war on drugs has erupted in Mexico with the Calderon government attempting to rid the country of organized crime. Drug violence within Mexico recorded 29,168 murders in 2017. The fighting between the Cartels and the Mexican government continues at a high rate spilling into US cities. The billions of dollars in profits are laundered in American Banks such as Wachovia Bank that laundered 379 Billion Dollars over several years. These profits are used to pay off or threaten politicians and the news to keep the flow of drugs coming.

The increased mixing of heroin with analogues of the highly-potent synthetic opioid fentanyl and other synthetic opioids has exacerbated this situation. The United States is at war with numerous advisories who are setting fires and conducting sabotage. Wildfires are costing billions of dollars in damage with thousands of burned homes. Fortunately, an increasing number of Americans are starting to wake up and are realizing that the mainstream media should not be trusted. According to a new poll just released by Gallup, the number of Americans that have little to no trust in the mainstream media (57%) is at an all-time high. All the national news I watch is against building a wall or stopping the drug cartels. Why does the news carry thousands of exciting stories of shootings and killings. Then every policeman who shoots someone in the line of duty is shown repeatedly shooting an alleged unarmed man for years. Much of the news is designed to divide America and incite riots. In cities such as Chicago, roving packs of young people are “mob robbing” local businesses, randomly assaulting tourists and shoppers and are even pulling people out of vehicles. The young watching the news are learning that the news will glorify their acts of violence and blame the police.

While politicians have spent several trillion dollars on foreign wars, they’ve distracted us from the very real threat that can be found in our own homes, targeting our families. In 1997, the United States became one of only two developed countries on the planet that made it legal for pharmaceutical companies to advertise drugs directly to consumers, including children. Since then prescription drug addiction and prescription drug overdoses have quadrupled.
We now have a generation of young adults who grew up with a drug dealer living in their homes 24/7 – the television, magazines and internet pushing pills as a solution to every imaginable condition.

The CDC is also seeing a trend in overdose deaths related to cocaine, which have increased steadily from over 4,000 in 2009 to over 6,700 in 2015. The agency expects that number to rise to over 6,900 in 2016 and then to make a 52% jump to almost 11,000 in 2017.The number of heroin users in the United States jumped from 404,000 in 2002 to 948,000 in 2016, a 135% increase. But even more striking: The number of people who had fatal overdoses related to heroin has skyrocketed from 2,089 in 2002 to an estimated 13,219 in 2016 — a 533% jump.

Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Tom Price said more American lives are lost to drugs than were lost in Vietnam. The US military saw 58,000 casualties during Vietnam; this year, drug overdose deaths are expected to reach an all-time high of 71,600.

“This is unacceptable,” said Price, who was part of a panel that released the latest findings from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health on Thursday.

The discrepancy between increased overdoses and steady use levels has public health officials concerned about just how potent the Mexican illegal drugs are becoming.

“What’s in today’s drug supply is really terrifying,” said Richard Baum, acting director of the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy who is also part of the panel releasing the new report.

Most of the fentanyl is being smuggled from Mexico into the country “through the porous border” by foot, by car, and even by “catapults.” … Many of the people dying of drug overdoses don’t realize they were ingesting powerful painkiller, which may be 50 times more potent than it used to be.

My Coroner friend tells me almost all the deaths he investigates are youngsters in their twenties with syringes in their arms with an overdose of deadly Mexican drug. What they could handle two weeks ago kills them.

There is some good news, the U.S. convicted nearly 500 human traffickers and 1,200 gang members, and helped our international allies arrest about 4,000 MS-13 members. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also arrested and charged hundreds of people suspected with contributing to the ongoing opioid crisis.

Alabama Triangle

Somerville — On January 16, 2018, at 9:05 PM, my girlfriend and I had pulled into her driveway and I noticed a very bright flickering light in the southeastern part of the sky about two miles away. We noticed it stopped flickering in the same spot for another minute or two. It started to move in our direction very quickly. My girlfriend was kind of freaking out as it got closer and flew over the neighbor’s house right in front of us. We could only see the three lights it had giving it a triangular shape. It had a white and red blinking light as well. It moved very quietly making little sound. It was only 200 feet above us. No pilot would fly that low in this mountainous area at night. That is insane . It continued northwest and flew over dodging the mountain itself by making slight turns and may have landed on that mountain. It had red flashing light similar to the ones on real planes. This plane can quietly create an extreme amount of light from miles away, fly very low, maneuver through mountains at night. I have a video showing the object flying by. It was close enough to shoot with a BB gun and it really wasn’t that big. I t can’t really explain what it really was.

California Object

Claremont Trails — I went hiking on January 22, 2018 at about 10:30am I was on the west side of the Mountain/Trails (facing Los Angeles) when I noticed a shiny object in the sky. The sun would reflect off it from time to time. At first I thought it could be a drone at a distance or a silver type of weather balloon but upon closer inspection I realized it was big and metallic. It was hovering/floating around in the same area for a little while. I grabbed an Samsung Camera which has 35 X Optimization and snapped a few pictures. Once I snapped a few good pics I realized the object was shaped more like a triangle like the letter A. Eventually, It started to move east in a floating erratic style. I eventually lost sight of it as it went over the mountains. The object definitely felt like it was out of this world. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Lakeland — Me and my husband were walking out of Wal-Mart and I noticed a full moon so that attracted me to look at the moon on October 21, 2018. I then noticed a bright object around the clouds moving in a triangular pattern in and around the clouds under the moon. At first I thought it could be a reflection from lights but then thought it was way to high for a reflection from lights. I then saw the object move and decided to take pictures. It really looked like a space ship. I figured it could be a plane but planes don’t maneuver like this object did. It finally went behind the clouds and we didn’t see it anymore. Warner Robbins — This will be the third UFO I’ve reported since October. My sister who was aware of my previous sightings, was keeping an eye in the sky on January 18, 2018 and saw the same object. She called and told us to look outside and there it was. The same bright light everyone else has seen, only mine was tainted slightly by a street light.

After the light started to fade I was able to see what looked like the silhouette of a triangle. I couldn’t get video in time so I snapped a quick photo. My husband who is active duty military also saw it just as it took off fast. Never seen anything like it. Soon after fighters were launched and there was an odd military jet I’ve never seen flying low over head. I noticed what looked like fighters circling the airspace. Thanks to MUFON CMS

St, Peters — Went outside to let my dog have a potty break, and heard a sound. Turned around and saw a triangular shaped craft moving fairly quickly on January 20, 2018.. I pulled out my phone I opened the camera/video app as quickly as possible and then magnified the image capture as much as I could. Las Vegas — I was standing on sidewalk of Frank Sinatra Drive facing south when I noticed a plane making a chemtrail that was thicker and whiter than usual. I followed it until it was just right above me, when I noticed what appeared to look like a bunch of balloons above the planes path. I realized that were very shiny, metallic layer on them and that they were perfect spheres, and that they were the same size of the plane flying by with the chemtrail, but higher up. The objects were in a mass group with the spheres in the front and pill-like objects towards the rear. The plane with the trail, was traveling northeast while the objects were in perfect line.. Telford — I took many photos with a Sony cyber shot WiFi camera of a beautiful sunset so I took advantage of the scenery with flash on and off on January 20, 2018. . When I got home to post like normal I noticed a spot in almost all pictures during a ten minute period, during that period geese in a v formation flew by and clouds went by but this object was unmoved, no matter my ever changing angles. I looked at these photos closer on a new computer and cannot deny there is definitely a hovering object in the shots. To further check out the photos I over exposed some and the clouds disappear but it shows up even more defined. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Springfield — Was taking pictures of the sun because the shape looked different than usual and noticed this object in several of them on December 13, 2017. Plus another shadow of what looks like the sun reflecting off the clouds. Obviously this ufo was moving as the appearance of the smaller outer balls on the larger ufo ball was changing. This same object was seen back in 2014 in Virginia and also somewhere else both day and night photos and videos which were uploaded to Youtube, one on witness101 (mine), another on ufov2012. Galveston — On Christmas morning around 8:30 am, my husband and I were driving down Seawall Blvd. and stopped facing the pier, I got out and take pictures of the sunrise with my apple iPhone. Later that evening when I was reviewing the, I noticed the greenish orb on 3 of the pictures. It was moving eastward and upward when compared to the clouds. When I enlarge the object, I am able to see a grid pattern and what is either windows or some type of white orbs docked on it. I do notice in the succeeding pictures the white lights or orbs seems to be moving around the green object and are not stationary.

Seattle to Las Vegas — About 3:40 pm,–on January 11,-2018, in-flight on Spirit Airlines I was taking scenery pictures on the mostly clear, late afternoon, although there was intermittent cloud cover below. Suddenly I briefly saw an object coming our way much closer than other aircraft. I thought it had to be an airplane coming too close, but I never saw what looked like an aircraft. I quickly got a few pictures without focusing. It went by and I was wondering, what did I just see? It may have come from Area 51… We touched down in Las Vegas 35 minutes after seeing the object. Mount Mackay National Park –The event happened while I was living in a small converted garage with a friend.. I got into bed to go to sleep about 9:30 pm, but could not fall asleep was because I was afraid! I had the distinct feeling of being watched!
I immediately sat up in bed and could clearly see Mount Mackay, and silhouetted against the night sky. I saw a lone bright star above the mountain that was way too bright to be a star. It was illuminating the hillside forest and intensity of the full moon. “That’s not a star, that’s a UFO…” To my astonishment, the object immediately moved to the left and down at a constant speed. I am convinced it had been monitoring me and my thoughts. The object disappeared behind the mountain. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Camarillo – At 6:20 pm, on December 22, /2017 an aircraft split into two dragging an unknown device behind it . The device was emitting concentric circle smoke rings and it’s smoke trail looked as if it was multi colored and had its own light source. Thanks to UFOINFO Joe Romano.

Etobicoke — I was on my balcony with a friend on our 5th floor looking out and saw a bright red bulb moving towards us , on January 20, 2018. It was high up travelling NE. We live close to the airport and overhead planes are frequent however never this shape, brightness, or color. We continued to watch it come closer overhead when we noticed a second orb-sphere travelling behind the first. Then came a third, and fourth. In total more than 10 passed over us silently pulsating red then bright white, then red. moving at a steady pace.

Rognac –Seen on December 22, 2017, around 7:30 pm, while I was walking my dog, 4 orange balls rise from behind the hill of the city where I am staying.

I was immediately struck by their luminosity, their perfect alignment, one behind the other, at a perfectly equal distance also intrigued me a lot!

Without a sudden movement, they traveled a few meters before melting into the sky and disappearing completely. Attached, one of the pictures taken that day, or 3 balls are still visible, one of them having already disappeared. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Russia Orb

The video was shot using a video surveillance camera, at night through a window. The field of view of the video camera was about 60 degrees, with the video stream of 20 frames per second. The sky was clear and the stars were visible on the video.
The UFO moved south through the zenith, the video camera facing south. A bright white light in the form of a sphere was captured. The flight speed is too high for a satellite and too slow for the meteor if we assume that the object was in orbit. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Tandragee — I was going out to the garage to sort out my laundry when I seen one very bright sphere in the sky just above the local milking parlor on April 17, 2017. I stood and looked when another one appeared to the right of it. I ran and got my 19 year old daughter and partner, When they came out a 3rd one appeared again to the right of the first two. I got my phone and took a video but it didn’t pick them up.

A BIZARRE Google Maps sighting is being hailed as proof aliens have landed on Earth.

The satellite image is of a strange circular piece of land in Argentina, which conspiracists think is a hiding place for a massive UFO.

And these so-called believers are not the only ones to be baffled by this area of the capital city, Buenos Aires.

The Ojo de la Tierra also has members of the scientific community confused because it is a small island that is perfectly round.

The disc of land measuring 118 metres in diameter also rotates by itself – something that has led perplexed experts to describe it as a phenomenon unlike nothing else.

Just days ago, ufologists claimed Google Maps provided further proof of aliens.

Netizens shared images from the satellite service showing what they claimed is an “alien HQ”.

It was a clear summer afternoon in Lake Tahoe, California in the late 70's when I saw my first UFO. The rough-hewn cigar-shaped craft hovered for a long period of time at a distance over the lake. It was so obvious that all of my neighbors joined me on the street watching it until it suddenly disappeared. Despite over a dozen witnesses, it was never reported, most people keep UFO experiences to themselves for fear of being labeled crazy. According to the National UFO Reporting Center, there were over 4,881 reported sightings in the United States in 2017, imagine how many were not reported.

What was once a subject of clandestine conversation has now become an international fascination with tourists visiting famed sighting areas and governments from around the world organizing extensive exploration. Located in the Atacama Desert of Chile, ESO’s Paranal Observatory is one of the best astronomical observing sites in the world and is the flagship location for Europes ground-based astronomy. ALMA Observatory is the most ambitious radio observatory on Earth. Unlike optic telescopes, radio telescopes are designed to capture radio waves emitted by sources in space. This is a segment of the electromagnetic spectrum that allows researchers to take a closer look at the Universe. ALMA has 66 antennas: fifty-four 12-meter diameter antennas and twelve 7-meter diameter antennas.

It is open every Saturday and Sunday to members of the public who want to visit its facilities located in northern Chile (30 miles from San Pedro de Atacama). Visitors get to see the ALMA Operations Support Facility (OSF), where ALMA personnel work and where you can observe the control room, laboratories, and the antenna transporter. The area of Chajnantor Plateau (where the massive number of antennas are located) are not open to visitors.

San Clemente, Chile is considered to be the unofficial UFO capital of the world. Researchers say that hundreds of UFO sightings have been reported there, as much as one per week. So popular is the area that the Chilean tourism board established an official UFO trail in 2008. The 19-mile trail runs through the Andes mountains covering sights where close encounters have been reported. Included in the experience are Colbún Lake, which has proved popular with UFOs because of its high mineral content, along with various areas highlighting historic sightings. But the trail's must-see location is El Enladrillado, a huge, bizarre flat area formed by 200 perfectly cut volcanic blocks that were reportedly laid by ancient civilizations. It takes four hours to get to the location on horseback and is believed by many to be a landing pad for extraterrestrials.

The next morning is a trip to the scientific observatory of Cerro Tololo, which includes a visit to the observatory’s facilities and a guided tour introducing the research done at the complex. That evening check-in to a hotel in Vicuña before a night tour to the observatory.

Mysterious patterns have appeared in the fields of Wiltshire, just one mile from the equally bizarre Stonehenge. The James Webb Space Telescope is a large infrared telescope with a 6.5-meter primary mirror. The telescope will be launched on an Ariane 5 rocket from French Guiana in Spring 2019 and will study the formation of solar systems capable of supporting life on planets like Earth.

NExSS) is a NASA research coordination network dedicated to the study of planetary habitability. The goals of NExSS are to investigate the diversity of exoplanets and to learn how their history, geology, and climate interact to create the conditions for life.

Operated by the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii. A strange oblong asteroid named Oumuamua was recently detected by Pan-STARRS through its collection of telescopes perched high above the Hawaiian island of Maui. The SETI Institute began scanning Oumuamua with its Allen Telescope Array on Nov. 23, 2017. So far, they have spent 60 hours checking for transmissions over a wide range of frequencies. Another SETI project, Breakthrough Listen, will soon devote 10 hours to investigating Oumuamua using a large antenna in West Virginia.

Last December, The New York Times broke the story about a secret Pentagon program that searches for UFOs. The Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program was a pet project of Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat and then-Senate majority leader. The program ran from 2007 to 2012 and cost $22 million.

It was funded by “black money,” the term used for classified Pentagon programs. This explains why the project wasn’t public until this year because a public debate on the Senate floor wasn’t required in order to fund it. This story sounds less like reality, and more like an episode of The X-Files – the iconic 90s series which is currently airing its 11th and final season.

The Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program gave most of the money to Reid’s billionaire friend Robert Bigelow, who runs an aerospace research company that has worked with NASA. Since Bigelow was already a billionaire, the obvious question is: why can’t he couldn’t fund his own program?

Government Has a Long-Running Love Affair with UFO Hunting

The relationship between UFO searching and the US government is not new. It started in 1948 with a program by the United States Air Force called Project Sign, then it changed its name to Project Grudge. Then, in 1953, it became Project Blue Book for the next two decades. The program had two goals: to determine if UFOs were a threat to national security and to scientifically analyze UFO-related data.

In 1968, the Condon Report was published by the University of Colorado UFO Project, a group funded by the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1968 with the objective of studying unidentified flying objects under the direction of physicist Edward Condon. This was the result of researching the UFO files of Project Blue Book and from the civilian UFO groups and investigating sightings reported during the life of the Project.

The conclusions of the Cordon Report were that UFOs are not a threat to national security, that unidentified sightings didn’t represent technological developments or principles beyond the range of modern science, and that there is no way to determine if UFOs are of extraterrestrial origin.

In 1970, Project Blue Book came to an end, but that didn’t mean the government stopped funding the search for aliens. The SETI Institute, a non-profit organization founded in 1984, received funding from the government, but it stopped after the criticism as a waste of money without any relevant objective by two Democratic Senators, William Proxmire of Wisconsin and Richard Bryan of Nevada. But this was just the direct funding because it still received money from governmental institutions like NASA in the form of research grants.

Someone could argue that $22 million for a program is not that much money. That being said, as Bryan put it when shutting down the budget of the SETI Institute: “This hopefully will be the end of Martian hunting season at the taxpayers' expense.” But it wasn’t.

Do We Really Want Government Doing This?

Searching for UFOs is just not the government’s business

The American government has wasted money on silly things like birdwatching, changing sand in beaches, and funding a clown school in Argentina. However, the real clowns are the politicians that love to empty the pockets of the taxpayers. UFO searches sound like a more imaginative way to waste money, but it’s still not a legitimate government function.

Besides, could we trust that if a government actually solves the UFO mystery, they would reveal it? It seems doubtful, given their love for secrecy. Plus, if UFOs really are of extraterrestrial origin, would we want to have politicians being the first to speak with an alien race?

Aliens are going to have a bad first impression of us if the first humans they meet are government bureaucrats. Plus, politicians tend to be hawkish, so if they are first to contact an extraterrestrial civilization, the risk of war increases. Searching for UFOs is just not the government’s business. We all would be better off if we leave that task to the private sector.

2017 was a banner year for scientists seeking aliens — even though they (apparently) didn’t find any

What do a strangely fading faraway star, an oddly shaped interstellar interloper in the solar system and a curious spate of UFO sightings by members of the U.S. military all have in common?

They are all mysterious, for one thing — eye-catchingly weird, yet still just hazy outlines that let the imagination run wild. All have recently generated headlines as possible signs of life and intelligence beyond Earth, of some mind-bogglingly advanced alien culture revealing its existence at last to our relatively primitive and planetbound civilization. Yet their most salient shared trait so far is the certainty they provoke in most scientists, who insist these developments represent nothing so sensational. Ask a savvy astronomer or physicist about any of these oddities, and they will tell you, as they have time and time before: It’s not aliens. In fact, it’s never aliens.

Far from being close-minded killjoys, most scientists in the “never aliens” camp desperately want to be convinced otherwise. Their default skeptical stance is a prophylactic against the wiles of wishful thinking, a dare to true believers to provide extraordinary evidence in support of extraordinary claims. What is really extraordinary, the skeptics say, is not so much the possibility of extraterrestrial intelligence but rather the notion that its existence nearby or visitation of Earth could be something easily unnoticed or overlooked. If aliens are out there — or even right here—in abundance, particularly ones wildly advanced beyond our state, why would incontrovertible proof of that reality be so annoyingly elusive?

To put it more succinctly, as the nuclear physicist Enrico Fermi did more than a half century ago, “Where are they?” Given a 10-billion-year-old galaxy filled with stars and planets, and an Earth less than half that age, Fermi guessed we are unlikely to be the first technological culture on the galactic stage. If just one spacefaring civilization predated our own in the Milky Way, he calculated, even moving at a very languorous pace it should have had more than enough time to visit, explore and colonize every planetary system in the galaxy.

Ever since, practitioners of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) have been brainstorming about why we do not encounter glaringly obvious signposts of an interstellar diaspora: Maybe there are nigh-universal bottlenecks in the odds for the emergence of life, intelligence or high technology, and we are indeed alone. Maybe we are not alone at all, but interstellar travel is so hard that everyone just stays home. Maybe we are being quarantined, and UFOs are dronelike documentarians recording an intergalactic Planet Earth miniseries. Maybe our galaxy is bursting at the seams with alien civilizations, and we simply have not looked hard enough—presuming we are capable of properly looking at all. Even the know-it-alls in the “never aliens” crowd would concede the diversity of possible answers to Fermi’s question says more about our ignorance than our knowledge.

One of Fermi’s SETI-pioneering peers, the physicist Freeman Dyson, once summarized the situation thus: “Our imaginings about the ways that aliens might make themselves detectable are always like stories of black cats in a dark room. If there are any real aliens, they are likely to behave in ways that we never imagined.” Even so, he added, “the failure of one guess does not mean that we should stop looking”—particularly because whatever may keep our skies alien-free would likely keep the rest of the universe free of star-trekking humans as well. Contemplating Fermi’s question is a way of exploring pathways to our possible futures. Finding aliens—or coming up empty in our searches—has profound implications for our own ultimate cosmic fate.

That is something to keep in mind while considering the latest near-hits (or near-misses), detailed below, in the ongoing search for cosmic company.

Dust busts "alien megastructures"

Discovered in archival data from NASA’s Kepler space telescope in 2015 by the Louisiana State University astronomer Tabetha Boyajian, the extreme episodic dimming of “Tabby’s Star,” or “Boyajian’s Star,” inspired speculations it was being engulfed by starlight-absorbing “alien megastructures” (think: a solar power plant the size of a solar system). Those speculations helped Boyajian and colleagues launch a successful Kickstarter project that raised funding for further scrutiny of the star, an effort that jumped into overdrive in May 2017, when the star began another dimming episode. But instead of revealing aliens, those observations—and others from telescopes around the world—found the culprit is probably clouds of submicron-scale dust around the star.

“If these dips were caused by solid, opaque objects, you’d expect them to block light equally at all colors. But we saw that the dips were deeper in blue [light] than they were in the red, which indicates that something more transparent, like dust, is crossing in front of the star,” Boyajian says. “How do we know it’s not solar panels absorbing blue light more efficiently than red light? Well, we don’t, but we do know dust is all over the universe in many different places, and what we now see is what we’d generally expect from dust.” The result mirrors that of another team led by the University of Arizona astronomer Huan Meng, which also flagged dust as the likely cause of the star’s odd behavior in October 2017.

Even so, Jason Wright, an astronomer at The Pennsylvania State University who collaborates with Boyajian on studies of the star, cautions that much more work is needed as dust is not the only remaining explanation. Other possibilities—such as intrinsic fluctuations in the star’s luminosity or even a black hole with a cold and dusty debris disk drifting across our interstellar line of sight—could also still fit the data. In theory, Wright says, even the “aliens” hypothesis is still on the table—although only if their megastructures are improbably adept at mimicking “boring old dust.”

“You don’t want to immediately cry ‘aliens’ like a boy crying wolf every time you see something and don’t understand it,” Wright says. “But with Tabby’s Star that’s not what has happened—she and her team have spent years trying to solve what is a legitimate astrophysical mystery.” The upside of all the public attention, Wright says, is that it has lured many astronomers to work on Tabby’s Star “precisely because all the ‘aliens’ talk annoyed them, and they wanted to find a natural explanation.”

Eavesdropping on 'Oumuamua

Astronomers spotted the sizeable object now called ‘Oumuamua (Hawaiian for “first messenger”) streaking by Earth last October. They determined by its speed and trajectory it had dive-bombed past our sun from the depths of interstellar space, perhaps after cruising through the void for billions of years. Theorists had long predicted icy comets cast away from other stars would someday be detected passing through our solar system, yet ‘Oumuamua did not act like a comet at all—despite passing blisteringly close to the sun, it never sprouted a cometlike tail of evaporating ice. It did not look like a comet either, appearing under telescopic scrutiny to be shaped like a half-kilometer-long needle—a form unknown among natural solar system objects but often favored by starships in science fiction. Perhaps, some SETI enthusiasts thought, ‘Oumuamua was an active or derelict probe from another civilization.

But when SETI-minded astronomers targeted the object with two exquisitely sensitive radio telescopes to eavesdrop for any artificial transmissions, they detected nothing. Other teams using large telescopes discovered ‘Oumuamua’s surface was a very particular shade of red, the same color that common carbon-rich molecules turn after prolonged exposure to harsh radiation.

The most likely conclusion? Despite its strange shape, trajectory and lack of a tail, ‘Oumuamua is just a comet after all, its ice locked away beneath a tarlike crust hardened and desiccated by eons of bombardment by cosmic rays. Its radio silence adds to a handful of other SETI false alarms in recent years.

“We accept that these things being artificial is really the lowest-probability possibility for what they are—our past work guides us in that,” says Andrew Siemion, director of the Berkeley SETI Research Center and leader of one team tuning into ‘Oumuamua. “All of these are going to be natural—until one turns out not to be.”

Clandestine close encounters

Late last year The New York Times published a story about a small, secretive program run by the Department of Defense to study new reports from the armed services about encounters with UFOs. The project was officially canceled in 2012, leading its former head to resign and join a private, for-profit company — To the Stars Academy of Arts & Science(TTSA) — dedicated to declassifying and studying the Pentagon’s batches of UFO-related material. The Times story included two short videos of separate UFO encounters captured by aircraft-mounted infrared cameras, and hinted at the existence of a third that has yet to be released. In the first video, from an encounter off the coast of San Diego in 2004, a fighter jet tracks a lozenge-shaped something that seems to zoom off at incredible speed, apparently without generating exhaust plumes or a sonic boom. In the second video, captured by a different fighter jet under undisclosed circumstances, an object surrounded by a “glowing aura” seems to fly tilted against heavy headwinds in defiance of known principles of aerodynamics, accompanied by audible exclamations from the fighter jet’s crew.

Steve Justice, TTSA's aerospace division director and former Lockheed Martin engineer who worked on advanced top secret aircraft for the latter company’s storied “Skunk Works” division, speculates that in both cases such incredible feats of flight could be due to the objects possessing some sort of warp drive. Such an (entirely theoretical) device would somehow allow an object to change mass and inertia at will, and potentially to travel faster than light by “altering the spacetime metric” around itself. Whether aliens are behind the fighter jet encounters is, to him, somewhat immaterial.

“I’m not really interested in the ‘who’ or the ‘what,’ but I’m really interested in the ‘how,’” Justice says. “How could you make a machine fly like that? To remove the effects of aerodynamics, I’d want to create a volume around myself where I was insulated from them, where I could change my orientation without changing direction, where I could accelerate without generating shock waves. Right now when an airplane pulls its nose up in forward flight, it climbs; when it breaks the sound barrier, it makes a sonic boom. But that’s not what we see here.”

Keep watching the skies

Skeptics reviewing the videos obtained by TTSA have postulated more prosaic explanations, while bemoaning both the lack of data due to pernicious state secrecy as well as the organization’s potentially problematic profit-seeking motives. (According to the TTSA Web site, a minimum investment of $200 buys you membership in the organization and finances research into “exotic technologies” associated with UFOs that could lead to “revolutionary breakthroughs in propulsion, energy and communication.”) Perhaps the speeding “lozenge” was a new type of missile, launched from a submarine as part of some earthly power’s clandestine technology test. And maybe the tilting, aura-sheathed object was actually a distant conventional aircraft distorted by image-processing firmware and autotracking sensors within the fighter jet’s gun camera.

This latter possibility Justice acknowledges as “entirely plausible”—save for the obvious urgency in the voices of experienced military pilots as they speak of associated radar tracking, which is not shown on the gun camera’s feed. “Maybe it could have been some set of physical and optical aberrations,” Justice says. “But when I put it in context of all the information in the video, that’s less likely to me.”

Of course, military pilots aren’t the only ones with extensive experience looking at objects in the sky—and the equipment to record what they see. Astronomers have that, too—yet they never seem to ever catch UFOs in the viewfinders of their telescopes. Similarly, the increasingly global ubiquity of smartphones should presumably boost the numbers and quality of UFO encounters captured on video (as they have done for rocket launches), but the flood of eerie footage has yet to materialize.

That raises a red flag for Bruce Macintosh, an astronomer at Stanford University. “In general, interesting physical phenomena are only barely significant when first detected. Then, as technology progresses, those detections become more significant,” he says. “But UFO detections have remained marginal for decades; they’ve just gone from being blurry shapes on film cameras to blurry shapes on the digital infrared sensors of fighter jet gun cameras. This, in spite of the fact that the world’s total imaging capacity has expanded by several orders of magnitude in the past 20 years.” To remain so vexingly residual, he says, UFOs would have to become more elusive in lockstep with our increasing ability to detect them—something no natural process would be expected to do.

Hypothetical aliens with advanced technology could do that, of course. “But then you have to ask why they would choose to remain marginally undetectable rather than just being undetectable,” Macintosh says. “Unless they’re taunting us, it’s hard to come up with a coherent explanation.”

Except, of course, for the obvious one: It’s never aliens. Until, perhaps, it is.

The Mystery of the Crystal Skulls

An old native American legend describes the existence of thirteen ancient crystal skulls, the size of human skulls, with moveable jaws that were said to speak or sing. The legend tells that these crystal skulls contain important information about some of the great mysteries of life and the universe. They contain knowledge about the past history of our species on this planet, and information about mankind’s true purpose and future destiny.

The Cherokee version of the legend says that there were originally twelve planets in the universe inhabited by human life and that there was one skull for each of these planets, together with a thirteenth skull which was vital to reconnecting all of these worlds.

The legend also says that one day, at a time of great need, all of these crystal skulls will be rediscovered and brought back together to reveal their information vital to the very survival of the human race. But the legend also warns that when that time arrives mankind must first be sufficiently developed, suitably evolved both morally and spiritually, so as not to abuse this great knowledge.

When we first heard this legend, whilst visiting the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal in Guatemala, we considered it merely a colourful story, until we found out that a real crystal skull had actually been discovered on an archaeological dig in Central America, way back in the 1920’s.

Frederick Mitchell-Hedges (1882-1959) was your archetypal British adventurer-explorer; a member of the Maya Committee of the British Museum and a real Indiana-Jones type character determined to make his mark in the twilight years of the British Empire. He was of the opinion that the cradle of civilisation lay not in the Middle East, as is commonly supposed, but instead he was convinced that Atlantis was a real civilisation which had disappeared after some natural catastrophe. He believed that the remnants of this Atlantean civilisation could still be found somewhere in Central America, and he was determined to prove it.

To this end, he gathered together a party of explorers who set sail from Liverpool in 1924 bound for British Honduras (now Belize). One day, deep in the jungle, his party stumbled upon some mounds of stone overgrown with moss and foliage, and suffocated by roots and vines. So they set fire to the undergrowth. When the fire had subsided the ruins of a once great city emerged from the flames.

It was a place known to the local Mayans as ‘Lubaantun’ or ‘The City of Fallen Stones’, and it was in this lost city that Mitchell Hedges’ adopted daughter Anna found a magnificent and perfect crystal skull, buried beneath an altar in the ruins of one of the great temple-pyramids. The Mayan helpers on the dig went wild with joy on the emergence of the skull. They seemed to recognise it. They kissed the ground crying, placed it on an altar, and performed ceremonial rituals and dances around it.

But what was this mysterious object and did it have anything to do with the ancient legend?

In a lost city in a remote jungle, located in what is now Belize, Central America, Anna Mitchell Hedge found this magnificent and perfect crystal skull, buried beneath an altar in the ruins of a great temple-pyramid.

The crystal skull is a mystery as profound as the Pyramids of Egypt, the Sphinx, the Nasca Lines of Peru, or Stonehenge. Ever since its original discovery the crystal skull has been the source of much archaeological controversy – nobody seems to know quite how old it really is, how it was made, what it was used for, and where it originally came from. All that is known for sure is that ever since it emerged from the temple ruins, the most incredible claims have been made about the crystal skull and there have been a whole host of reports of strange and unusual phenomena surrounding the skull.

As mentioned above, Anna Mitchell-Hedges is the woman who first uncovered the crystal skull as a teenager back in the 1920’s. Although the crystal skull was found on what most archaeologists consider to be a Mayan site, Anna Mitchell-Hedges and many others like her believe that it is actually much older than this, and that it belonged to some mysterious pre-Mayan civilisation that has now long since disappeared from this Earth.

The crystal skull has been valued at several millions of dollars, but it is far more than just an expensive and exotic ancient artefact. For, over the years, people have reported all kinds of strange and unusual experiences in the skull’s presence. In particular, it is said to have incredible ‘psychic’ and ‘healing’ powers. According to Anna Mitchell-Hedges, who passed away at the age of 100 in 2007, it is thanks to the ‘healing power’ of the skull that kept her alive. She said that all through her life the skull kept her in good health and happiness. The skull, she said, ‘protected’ her and ‘communicated’ with her all through her long life, and she is not the only person to have reported such experiences.

Anna allowed many visitors into her home and she accumulated hundreds of letters from the many people who came to her house to sit with the skull and who claim to have been ‘healed by the skull’ or that it somehow ‘communicated’ with them. Many of those who have spent time alone with the skull claim to have seen or heard things in its presence. Many say they have seen a gentle glow, like an aura, extending around the skull, or that they have heard sounds, like the soft chanting of human voices, emanating from it, such that it has now earned the title ‘the talking’ or ‘singing skull’, just as in the old legend.

Others claim to have seen things inside the skull. When they have sat with the skull for a long time it has started to present them with images, almost like watching a bit of cinema film. Hundreds of visitors attest to having seen incredible images from the past or the future deep inside its crystalline structure. The reports include images of ancient sacred sites, with ceremonies being performed beneath great pyramids. Others say they have seen whole periods of planetary history with great shifting of continents, the rising of sea levels and destruction of land masses, and geological cataclysm on a global scale. One of the most commonly reported images is considered by many to be the holographic image of a UFO appearing within the crystal skull – and this has even been photographed! This image in particular has led many to suggest that perhaps the crystal skull has some kind of strange unearthly origin?

But, just as the ancient legend suggests, this is not the only crystal skull to be discovered. Several other crystal skulls have since come to light. All are of mysterious origin and all are surrounded by claims of strange or unusual phenomena and tales of inexplicable, paranormal powers.

Max, the ‘Talking’ Crystal Skull

A woman named Joann Parks, who lives in Houston, Texas, also has a crystal skull. She, too, claims that her crystal skull has the power to heal and can communicate with her telepathically. The story of how Joann Parks came into possession of her crystal skull starts with a very sad story. In 1978 Joann’s eldest daughter, Diana, was diagnosed as having bone cancer and the conventional medical doctors gave her only three months to live. Joann turned to the help of a Tibetan Lama and healer named Norbu Chen. This man owned a crystal skull, and with the help of this healer and his crystal skull, her daughter managed to live for a further three years. When her daughter eventually died, the healer gave Joann the crystal skull, telling her nothing about it except that he had originally received it from a Guatemalan shaman and that one day Joann would understand it and know what it was for.

Not knowing what to do with it, Joann put the crystal skull in a box in the bedroom closet. A few years later the skull started to appear in her dreams. Then it started “speaking to her,” saying that it wanted out of the closet. She tried to ignore this ‘voice’ but it started “talking to her” at all times of day, saying “You must let me out of this closet. I am important to mankind,” and “I will be remembered.” Joanne thought she was losing her mind and even spoke to her family doctor about it, but the voice just wouldn’t go away, and so she eventually found herself sitting in the bedroom closet “talking to this lump of rock” and telling it to go away, saying “Just leave me alone skull!” She slammed the skull away in a case and pushed it to the back of the wardrobe, but as she ran back down the stairs the skull kept talking to her. “It was very persistent,” explained Joann and it was determined that I take it out of the closet and “tell mankind” of its existence. It even added that, “By the way, my name isn’t skull, it’s Max!” And since that time Joann has been showing the skull all over the United States where she says “Max has now spoken to and healed many people.”

The skull had also told Joanne that it came many thousands of years ago from a civilisation far in advance of our own, and from a dimension different from our own, and that one day soon this is something mankind would understand!

What can we learn from the other crystal skulls that have now been discovered? Recently a massive crystal skull turned up at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington under very sad and mysterious circumstances. It had been sent through the post by an anonymous donor whom it transpired had taken his own life, apparently on account of the ‘curse’ the skull had brought on him since it came into his possession.

The British Museum also has a crystal skull which is kept in The Museum of Mankind, just off Piccadilly Circus, in London. Like the Mitchell-Hedges specimen, this skull is made from highly transparent crystal and displays an incredible degree of anatomical accuracy. This skull has been in the museum’s possession since 1898 and is reported by staff to have been seen moving around by itself in its sealed glass case. The museum’s cleaners are said to be so frightened of this skull that it has to be covered by a cloth before they will go anywhere near it. Where did this skull come from?

The British Museum have always considered their skull to be of Aztec origin. The note accompanying the Smithsonian skull also said that it had once belonged to the mighty Aztecs of Central America. Anna Mitchell-Hedges and Joann Parks said their skulls are at least as old as the ancient Mayan civilisation of Central America, if not far older and perhaps of extraterrestrial origin.

The ancient Aztec and Mayan people built up highly developed civilisations in an incredibly short period of time. These civilisations appeared as if from nowhere and the Mayan civilisation, just as suddenly, mysteriously disappeared.

Many archaeologists are baffled as to where they got their advanced knowledge from and why they suddenly disappeared. All the evidence that remains of this civilisation suggests they were great watchers of the skies and the heavenly bodies. They were great scientists, mathematicians and astronomers. They had a complex calendar based on the movements of the planets and the stars and which they used to predict the future. They were able to predict eclipses, even ones they could not see and that were happening elsewhere in the world. They even managed to accurately predict eclipses that have happened recently – over a thousand years after their own civilisation mysteriously disappeared.

Some researchers claim the Mayan records say their people came from Atlantis and their ancestors before that ‘came from the stars’. The Mayan civilisation was also obsessed with the image of the skull, which made up an important part of their sacred, divinatory calendar.

Modern Fakes?

Many archaeologists, however, unable to explain the strange phenomena associated with the crystal skulls, claim they are simply ‘modern fakes’. So how old are the crystal skulls and where did they really come from? Are they modern, Aztec, Mayan, or did they come from some other civilisation altogether?

In an attempt to try to answer these questions, Anna Mitchell-Hedges loaned her skull to one of the world’s leading computer companies, Hewlett-Packard, for rigorous scientific testing. The scientists in their crystal laboratories were completely unable to determine the age of the skull, as crystal cannot be carbon-dated. But what surprised the scientists was that both the skull and its detachable lower jawbone were made from the same massive piece of pure, natural rock crystal. As crystal is only slightly softer than diamond, this finding was truly incredible.

The scientists concluded that even with modern diamond-tipped power tools, it would have been impossible to carve such an object without it shattering. At first they thought the skull must have been made by hand using sand and water to slowly abrade the material over several generations – a process they estimated must have taken around “300 man-years of effort!” But soon they were forced to revise even this conclusion. For when the skull was examined under intense magnification the scientists were in for an even bigger surprise – they were completely unable to find any evidence of tools having been used to make the skull at all! A fact which led one member of the team to comment: “This skull shouldn’t even exist!”

The crystal skull challenged all conventional opinion. Here was an object that simply defied explanation. It showed no evidence of any existing technology used in its construction, no evidence of tool markings either ancient or modern. But the scientists at Hewlett-Packard said they were simply not prepared to countenance the only alternative explanation – that the skull had not even been made by humans.

The scientists other interesting discovery was that the skull had been made from precisely the same type of quartz now used in modern electronic equipment. Modern science has established that among the unusual properties of quartz crystal is its ability to hold under control electrical energy and to oscillate at a constant and precise frequency. In other words, the crystal skull is able to hold electrical energy – potentially a form of information – and send out vibrating impulses – or waves of energy information. This is why quartz crystal is used for the ‘brain cells’ of electronic equipment such as watches and computers. The silicon crystal chip inside a computer, for instance, is where the information is actually stored. This finding raised the distinct possibility that the crystal skulls are in fact some kind of information storage system, just as the ancient legend suggests. But what might that information be, and where do the crystal skulls really come from?

The Legend of the Crystal Skulls

Native Americans have long believed in the power of quartz crystal. They refer to quartz crystals as “the brain cells of Mother Earth” and have traditionally used them for healing. The crystal skulls have long been a part of Native American teachings but until now they have been forbidden to speak about them. Now, they say, the time has come for them to speak out about these amazing artefacts and to reveal their secret knowledge.

Professor Paula Gunn-Allen of the University of California is of Laguno Pueblo origin. She specialises in Native American literature and is well versed in the mythology and oral history of Native America. According to her the crystal skulls were created by beings “who are not humans like we are.” She says the crystal skulls were designed specifically for the purpose of communication with extraterrestrial life. As she explains, “What they are is transceivers – devices to help us communicate with the other quadrants of the galaxy.” She said that we might think of them “as like telephones” that get you connected with Galactic Central and enable you to stay in touch with “civilisations beyond our littie bitty modern world.”

Native American medicine woman Jamie Sams says that “the crystal skulls contain information about our own ancestors, about our own past and our own future that will very soon change the whole way we see ourselves, our world, and our true place in the universe.”

According to Metis Cherokee medicine man Harley Swiftdeer, the full version of the legend of the crystal skulls says that there were originally twelve planets in the universe inhabited by human life; that there was one skull for each of these planets, and a thirteenth skull which was vital to finally reconnecting all of these worlds. According to Harley Swiftdeer and other native Americans, the crystal skulls were brought to this Earth as “gifts from the gods” – brought long ago by these beings from elsewhere in the universe.

These crystal skulls contained the wisdom necessary to found civilisation on this Earth and when all thirteen crystal skulls are brought back together again, we will have finally found the key to reconnecting with our brothers and sisters elsewhere in this beautiful universe.

Ancient—draft—manuscript of the Bible found, reveals shocking details

Some argue that this ancient manuscript proves how the Bible is in fact a work of fiction. The King James Bible was created after King James I ordered 47 translators to produce an ‘authorized’ version of the Bible that would support the English Church over Puritan influence in earlier texts.

Kept hidden away for centuries among ancient manuscripts lodged in the Cambridge college remain an ancient manuscript which turned out to be the EARLIEST known DRAFT of the King James Bible—arguably the most widely read work of literature in the English language.

But why does this matter so much? Well, the Bible is a compilation of ancient early texts and translations, and this ancient manuscript shows how one of the translators in charge of translating the King James Bible—Samuel Ward—made several drafts and corrections—based on earlier versions of the Bible—in order to obtain the King James Bible.

Author Samuel Ward was one of a team of seven men in Cambridge who worked on the translation of the King James Bible.

The manuscript was discovered by American scholar Jeffrey Miller who came across some 70 handwritten papers believed to date back between 1604 and 1608 in ancient archives, containing biblical commentary, with Greek and Hebrew notes. The manuscript had eluded researchers in the past because it was mislabeled—remaining undetected and without any study for centuries.

Miller argues how the discovery of the manuscript will help fill in gaps that will allow us to better understand how the bible—which was published d in 1611—came to be.

“There was a kind of thunderstruck, leap-out-of-the-bathtub moment,” Miller, told the New York Times in an interview.

“But then comes the laborious process of making sure you are correct.”

The King James Bible is the English translation of the Christian Bible made for the Church of England which begun in 1604 and was completed in 1611. The books of the King James Version contain the 39 books of the Old Testament, as well as intertestamental section containing 14 books of the Apocrypha, and the 27 books that make up the New Testament.

The KJB is the result of 7 translators working in teams working in London, Oxford, and Cambridge. King James I ordered them to produce an ‘authorized’ version of the Bible that would support the English Church over Puritan influence in earlier texts.

Many authors argue that entire sections of the original texts of the Bible were cut out from the ‘finished product’ and notable people and events were entirely omitted from the finished text.

Writing about the discovery, Miller— from Montclair State University in New Jersey—indicates how Ward’s ‘draft’ “helps to reveal about one of the 17th century’s most extraordinary cultural achievements.”

“It points the way to a fuller, more complex understanding than ever before of the process by which the KJB, the most widely read work in English of all time, came to be,” added Miller.

Discoveries like these raise questions on how much translators influenced the final product and whether or not, the King James Bible is today an ancient text based on the actual truth and events that occurred thousands of years ago.

According to a new scientific study, life may have existed on Earth more than 4.6 Billion years ago, during the so-called Hadean Era.

Scientists believe that soon after our planet formed, it was a hellish world with an unstable crust, bombarded by alien objects which caused the temperature of the Earth to rise extremely.

Despite the fact that Earth went through hellish early years, a new study claims that life may have survived somehow.

Scientists have estimated the direct effects caused by the ‘intense bombardment’ during the Hadean era and discovered that even the harshest scenarios were not enough to render our planet completely sterile.

Scientists have found that heavy bombardment from space rock would have certainly heated the subsurface region of the planet, but despite this, would still have remained habitable for microbial life.

The Study, which will be published in the Journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters, written by scientists from the Southwest Research Institute in Colorado, takes a look at the habitability just below the surface of the Earth during the Hadean and early Archean eons.

Scientists investigated the upper few kilometers of earth’s subsurfacee environment, taking into consideration the discoveries made by an earlier study on the thermal evolution of the planets crust.

Scientists have found that heavy bombardment from space rock would have certainly heated the subsurface region of the planet, but despite this, would still have remained habitable for microbial life. Furthermore, scientists found that the subsurface habitable zone on Earth would have eventually grown across two eons, as fewer and fewer space rocks impacted Earth.

Researchers were only able to discover a worldwide sterilization scenario when they simulated more impacts occurring over shorter periods of time. Scientists found that asteroid and comet collision may have caused dramatic changes to our planet by melting Earth’s sheets and altering its surface.

However, researchers say that even in this scenario life on Earth may have been able to emerge.

Surprising discoveries

For a long time have numerous scientists maintained that life could not have existed on earth before 3.9 billion years ago, but the new findings support previous studies which indicate that a biosphere may have been present some 4.4 billion years ago, reports ScienceNews.

“Even in the Hadean, melt sheets have little effect on habitability because cooling times are short compared to resurfacing intervals, allowing subsurface biospheres to be locally re-established by groundwater infiltration between major impacts,” the authors wrote in the study.

“Therefore, the subsurface is always habitable somewhere, and production of global steam or silicate-vapor atmospheres are the only remaining avenues to early surface sterilization by bombardment.”

While our planet looked quite differently billions of years ago, for microbial life beneath the surface “an average day in the Hadean did not spell doom,” lead author Robert Grimm told ScienceNews.

Onze planeet trilde sinds het begin van dit jaar al minstens 3 keer met een kracht van meer dan 7 op de schaal van Richter. Ter vergelijking: vorig jaar waren er 7 aardbevingen met een magnitude van 7 op meer op een heel jaar tijd. Drie dergelijk zware aardbevingen op korte tijd heeft de aandacht van wetenschappers gewekt. Zij voorspellen dat er dit jaar bijna dubbel zoveel aardbevingen kunnen zijn dan vorig jaar.

Een paar dagen geleden trilde de aarde hevig voor de kust van Alaska. Diezelfde dag was er ook al een aardbeving in Jakarta. Eerder deze maand vielen er al doden door een aardbeving in Peru. En ook Mexico werd al opgeschrikt door bevende ondergrond, net als Honduras. Japan werd getroffen door een aardbeving met een magnitude van 6.2.

Zowel in Honduras, Alaska en Peru ging het om een aardbeving met een kracht van meer dan 7 op de schaal van Richter.

Die frequentie en die hevigheid is volgens geologen geen toeval. Zij zeggen dat er een sterk verband is tussen de snelheid waarmee de aarde roteert en de seismische activiteit. Sinds 2011 draait onze Aarde een héél klein beetje trager om z’n as dan normaal. Daar hebben we zelf niks van gemerkt, want het gaat om slechts een paar duizendsten van een seconde. Toch kan die minieme fluctuatie leiden tot een intense activiteit die onder de grond.

Professor Roger Bilham van de Universiteit van Colorado en Rebecca Bendick van de Universiteit van Montana onderzochten dat fenomeen. Afgelopen maand nog presenteerden ze hun onderzoek tijdens de jaarlijkse meeting van de Geological Society in de VS. Uit hun onderzoek bleek dat in de laatste historische periodes waarin er een verhoogde seismische activiteit was en er ongeveer dubbel zoveel aardbevingen waren, onze planeet in de jaren daar voorafgaand telkens iets trager rond haar as draaide. “De Aarde geeft ons eigenlijk een waarschuwing met dat trager draaien voor toekomstige aardbevingen”, zegt Bilham. “De gevolgtrekking is duidelijk. In 2018 zullen we een significant toegenomen aantal van zware aardbevingen zien.”

Waar de Aarde zal beven , dat is moeilijk te voorspellen. Maar Bilham zegt wel dat uit het verleden is gebleken dat de meeste aardbevingen die plaatshebben na die tragere rotatie, vooral in tropische regio’s voorkomen. Sowieso komen aardbevingen vooral voor in de buurt van de grenzen tussen tektonische platen. In Azië en Latijns-Amerika zijn het vooral landen die in de zogenaamde ‘Ring van Vuur’ liggen die veel met bevingen geconfronteerd worden. Zo zijn wetenschappers ervan overtuigd dat er sowieso nog heel zware bevingen zitten aan te komen voor onder andere Japan, Nieuw-Zeeland en andere landen die in de ‘Ring van Vuur’ liggen. Daarnaast gaan onderzoekers ook uit van een bijzonder grote aardbeving die de Verenigde Staten, vooral de westkust, zal treffen, een die een kracht heeft tussen 8.7 en 9.2 op de schaal van Richter. Over die ‘ergste natuurramp in de geschiedenis van de VS’ wordt al jaren gesproken. De Amerikaanse staat Californië werd vorige week op één dag drie keer getroffen door (lichte) bevingen. Maar het is onmogelijk te zeggen of dit een voorbode is van die gevreesde ‘mega-aardbeving’.

Risicogebieden in Europa zijn Italië, Griekenland en Turkije, die vlakbij de grens tussen de Afrikaanse en Euraziatische tektonische plaat liggen. Volgens het Wereld Risico Rapport van het UNU-EHS (De VN-Universiteit voor Milieu en Menselijke Veiligheid) behoren Turkije en Griekenland tot de Europese landen waar het risico op een natuurramp, zoals een aardbeving dus, vrij hoog is. In 2011 nog kwamen 604 mensen om het leven na een aardbeving in Turkije. Een dikke 10 jaar eerder, in 1999, stierven meer dan 17.000 mensen na een aardbeving met een kracht van 7.6 in Izmit in Turkije.

Het risico op een natuurramp in België is volgens het rapport vrij laag. In het geval van ons land zou het dan bijvoorbeeld om overstromingen en stijgende zeeniveau gaan. Voor zware aardbevingen hoeven we in ons land dus niet te vrezen.

Wanneer?

Maar nog moeilijker dan te voorspellen waar de aarde zal beven, is voorspellen wanneer dat zal zijn. Op korte termijn valt zoiets nauwelijks te voorspellen. Al kunnen meerdere kleine bevingen wel een grotere aankondigen. Zo waren er in 2009 meerdere kleine bevingen in de regio rond L’Aquila, in Italië. Uiteindelijk werden al die kleintjes gevolgd door een heel zware aardbeving. Zes Italiaanse wetenschappers die hadden aangegeven dat het risico op een grote beving in de stad klein was na de meerdere kleine beving, werden trouwens veroordeeld tot 6 jaar cel. Bij de aardbeving in L’Aquila kwamen 309 mensen om het leven. De schade van de beving liep in de miljoenen{

Les spéculations du crash d’un OVNI ont pris le devant de la scène à la suite de mystérieuses images montrant un trou fumant découvert sur le bord d’une autoroute très fréquentée.

Les autorités enquêtent toujours sur ce qu’elles ont découvert. Le clip montre une brume épaisse qui remplit l’air au-dessus d’un trou noir.

Le cratère mesure huit mètres de large et de profondeur, on peut voir une grande quantité de fumée s’en échappée, ce qui suggère que l’événement mystérieux venait tout juste de se produire.

Il y avait des gens sur les lieux peu de temps après l’incident, mais il n’y avait pas encore de preuves pour expliquer ce qui s’était réellement passé.

On a laissé entendre qu’un OVNI ou une météorite qui s’écrasait sur la Terre aurait pu être la cause du trou noir.

Cet étrange événement s’est produit le 17 janvier au Mexique et a été téléchargé sur YouTube le lendemain.

La vidéo originale a accumulé des milliers de vues et a été partagée sur plusieurs autres médias.

Les téléspectateurs se sont empressés de suggérer ce que cela pouvait être.

Un commentaire dit qu’il ressemblait à un OVNI qui a atterri et décollé, laissant un cratère.

An alleged UFO crash in Russia also known as the Roswell Incident of the Soviet Union occurred on January 29, 1986, at 7:55 pm in Dalnegorsk, small mining town in Primorsky Krai, Far East of Russia.

That cold January day an orange-reddish sphere flew over this town from the southeast, crossed part of Dalnegorsk, and crashed at the Izvestkovaya (Lime) Mountain; also known as Height or Hill 611, because of its size. The object flew noiselessly and parallel to the ground. Its shape was described of being near perfectly round with no projections, wings or windows and its color was similar to that of burnished stainless steel.

V. Kandakov, an eyewitness, recalled that the speed of alleged UFO was close to 15 meters per hour. The object ascended and descended slowly and its glow heated up each time it rose. On reaching Hill 611, the object jerked and fell like a rock. Other witnesses reported about bumps and jumps and also a weak thump. The object burned at the cliff’s edge for almost an hour.

Descriptions of the descent to Hill 611 differ from witness to witness. Some stated the object clearly crashed, fell in an uncontrolled manner, crashing into Hill 611 in a flash of light (possible explosion). Others claimed it varied in altitude above the hill, giving off light of different intensities as it gained and lost altitude (like pilot trying to regain control of ship) prior to the crash.

About 3 days after the crash a group of scientists led by Valery Dvuzhilni, Head of the Far Eastern Committee for Anomalous Phenomena, found the the probable crash site on Hill 611. It was reported to be approximately 3m square and reports indicate the ground within the site had been charred due to exposure to very high temperatures. The rocks at the impact site were covered with a black film and remains of a burned tree were found within the landing ground.

Analyses of Recovered Objects

Various evidence of “alien remains/activity” were reported to be found. Surrounding rocks had deposits of a “silver metal” which was determined to be common lead. There are also reports (unconfirmed) of other materials being recovered including an “alien mesh” (possible part of the crashed UFO’s construction) containing high levels of gold and other rare terrestrial elements.

Dvuzhilni claimed he received a report from the IZMIRAN Institute of Earth magnetism, ionosphere and radiowaves propagation (the Leningrad branch). This institute was involved in the secret Soviet UFO research program from 1978 to 1991 (SETKA AN). They conducted analyses of lead balls from Height 611. The conclusions arrived to by scientists were as follows: the balls were made on Earth, but the lead was not from Dalnegorsk deposit, but from the Kholodnensky deposit, in the North Baikal region. Dvuzhilni was certain that the alien probe that crashed on Height 611 was capable of using metals from Earth deposits for its repair needs.

Furthermore numerous anomalies were reposted in the area of Hill 611: according to an article in the Soviet digest Tainy XX Veka (Moscow, 1990, CP Vsya Moskva Publishing House). Even photos taken at the site, when developed, failed to show the hill, but did clearly show other locations. Members of an expedition to the site reported later that their flashlights stopped working at the same time. They checked the flashlights upon returning home, and discovered burned wires.

Eight days after the UFO crash at Hill 611, on February 8, 1986, at 8:30 p.m., two more yellowish spheres flew from the north, in the southward direction. Reaching the site of the crash, they circled it four times, then turned back to the north and flew away. Then on November 28, 1987 (Saturday night, 11:24 p.m.), 32 flying objects had appeared from nowhere. There were hundreds of witnesses, including the military and civilians.

New analyses suggest heat caused by asteroid bombardment didn’t sterilize the planet

FIERY MYTH Scientists have long thought that Earth was a sterile hellscape during its earliest eon (illustrated), due to asteroid bombardment. But the heat from those impacts wasn’t too much for life to exist, new research indicates.

Maybe Earth’s early years weren’t so hellish after all.

Asteroid strikes repeatedly bombarded the planet during its first eon, but the heat released by those hits wasn’t as sterilizing as once thought, new research suggests. Simulations indicate that after the first few hundred million years of bombardment, the heat from the impacts had dissipated enough that 10 to 75 percent of the top kilometer of the subsurface was habitable for mesophiles — microbes that live in temperatures of 20° to 50° Celsius. If so, the planet may have been habitable much earlier than previously believed.

Earth’s earliest eon, the Hadean, spans the period from about 4.6 billion years ago, when the planet was born, to 4 billion years ago. The name, for the Greek god of the underworld, reflects the original conception of the age: dark and hellish and inhospitable to life. But little direct evidence of Hadean asteroid impacts still exists, limiting scientists’ understanding of how those collisions affected the planet’s habitability.

“There has been an assumption that the Hadean was mostly an uninteresting slag heap until the sky stopped falling and life could take hold,” says Stephen Mojzsis, a geologist at the University of Colorado Boulder. That’s not to say that all of the Hadean was pleasant; the first 150 million years of Earth’s history, which included the giant whack that formed the moon, were pretty dramatic. But after that, things settled down considerably, says Mojzsis, who was not an author of the new study.

For example, scientists have found signs of liquid water and even faint hints of possible life in zircon crystals dating back 4.1 billion years (SN: 12/28/15, p. 16). Other researchers have contested the idea that Earth was continually bombarded by asteroids through much of the Hadean, or that a last barrage of asteroids shelled the planet 3.9 billion years ago in what has been called the Late Heavy Bombardment, killing any incipient life (SN Online: 9/12/16).

In the new study, geophysicist Robert Grimm and planetary scientist Simone Marchi, both of the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colo., estimated how hot it would have been just a few kilometers beneath the planet’s surface during the Hadean. The scientists used an estimated rate of asteroid bombardment, as well as how much heat the projectiles would have added to the subsurface and how much that heat would have dissipated over time to simulate how hot it got — and whether microbial life could have withstood those conditions. The research built on earlier work, including Marchi’s 2014 finding that asteroid impacts became smaller and less frequent with time (SN: 8/23/14, p. 13).

Asteroid impacts did heat the subsurface, according to the simulations, but even the heaviest bombardment scenarios were not intense enough to sterilize the planet, the researchers report March 1 in Earth and Planetary Science Letters. And if the rate of bombardment did decrease as the eon progressed, the heat the asteroids delivered to Earth’s subsurface would also have had time to dissipate. As a result, that habitable zone would have increased over time.

A Late Heavy Bombardment, if it occurred, would have been tougher for the microbes, because the heat wouldn’t have had time to dissipate with such a rapid barrage. But that just would have meant the habitable zone didn’t increase, the team reports; mesophiles could still have inhabited at least 20 percent of the top kilometer of subsurface.

Mojzsis says he’s come to similar conclusions in his own work. “For a long time people said, with absolutely no data, that there could be no biosphere before 3.9 billion years ago,” he says. But “after the solar system settled down, the biosphere could have started on Earth 4.4 billion years ago.”

That’s not to say that there was definitely life, Grimm notes. Although the heat from impacts may not have been a limiting factor for life, asteroid bombardment introduced numerous other challenges, affecting the climate, surface or even convection of the mantle. Still, the picture of Earth’s earliest days is undergoing a sea change. As Grimm says, “An average day in the Hadean did not spell doom.”

Has the mysterious Voynich Manuscript finally been deciphered?

Greg Kondrak, a specialist of the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence of the University of Alberta (Canada), believes that he has found clues to solve the mystery of Voynich’s manuscript, written with an undecipherable code in the fifteenth century.

The Voynich Manuscript is an ancient book, of unknown contents, written by an anonymous author in an unidentified alphabet and an incomprehensible language.

Although it is not known when it was written, according to carbon 14 tests, the parchment on which it is written was manufactured between 1404 and 1438.

The Voynich Manuscript gets its name thanks to a Lithuanian specialist in ancient books Wilfrid M. Voynich (1865-1930), who acquired it in 1912.

It is currently listed as item MS 408 in the Beinecke Library of rare books and manuscripts of Yale University.

The ancient manuscript has been the object of intense studies by numerous professional and amateur cryptographers, including leading American and British specialists in code cracking of World War II.

The Voynich Manuscript is one of the most mysterious ancient manuscripts ever found.

So far, no one has managed to decipher a single word written in the manuscript. This succession of failures has turned the manuscript into the Holy Grail of historical cryptography, but at the same time, it has fueled the hypothesis that the book is nothing more than an elaborate deception, a random sequence of symbols without any meaning.

However, Kondrak has resorted to the help of artificial intelligence programs capable of correctly identifying a language up to 97% of the time and, after analyzing the manuscript, has suggested its language resembles Hebrew, reports CTV News.

Earlier studies have suggested that the enigmatic manuscript was written in a form of Arabic writing.

Thus, the approximate translation of the first sentence of the book would be: “she made recommendations to the priest, to the man of the house, to me and to the people”.

Although other experts have not shown much enthusiasm for his work because he uses computer technologies, this researcher recognizes that people who master Hebrew are needed to make sense of the syntax and intention of the words.

“That was surprising, said Dr. Kondrak, “and just saying ‘this is Hebrew’ is the first step. The next step is how do we decipher it.”

Kondrak and his team made use of statistical algorithms which are believed to be 97 percent accurate when translating the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights into 380 languages.

After having searched for seeking Hebrew scholars to validate their findings, the scientists turned to Google Translate.

“It came up with a sentence that is grammatical, and you can interpret it,’ said Dr. Kondrak, ‘she made recommendations to the priest, man of the house and me and people. It’s a kind of strange sentence to start a manuscript but it definitely makes sense,” he said.

However, Kondrak notes that without experts in ancient Hebrew, the entire manuscript and its meaning will remain a mystery.

“We use human language to communicate with other humans, but computers don’t understand this language because it’s designed for people.”

It is believed that the ancient manuscript includes references to ‘farmer’, ‘light’, ‘air’ and ‘fire’.

“There are so many ambiguous meanings that we don’t even realize,” said Dr. Kondrak.

Kondrak explains that there is a lot of work to be done, and deciphering the entire manuscript will need more than just feeding the manuscript to AI, as it requires human input to make sense and syntax.

Kondrak explains: “Somebody with very good knowledge of Hebrew and who’s a historian at the same time could take this evidence and follow this kind of clue.”

Jupiter’s moon Europa is an ocean world beneath an icy crust, and scientists want to land a spacecraft there. But a new study indicates a surface less dense than freshly fallen snow.

Space scientists have every reason to be fascinated with Jupiter’s moon Europa, and, in 2017, NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) announced they are planning a joint mission to land there. As the video above explains, this little moon is thought to have a liquid ocean submerged beneath an icy crust. Scientists believe it could host extraterrestrial life. But Europa’s surface is much more alien than any we’ve ever visited. With its extremely thin atmosphere, low gravity – and a surface temperature of some -350 degrees F. (–176 °C.) – Europa might not be kind to a landing spacecraft. The moon’s surface might be unexpectedly hard. Or – as evidenced by a study from the Planetary Science Institute announced on January 24, 2018 – Europa’s surface might be so porous that any craft trying to land would simply sink.

The study – published in the peer-reviewed journal Icarus – comes from scientist Robert Nelson. If you’re a student of space history, its results might sound familiar. Nelson pointed out in his statement:

Of course, before the landing of the Luna 2 robotic spacecraft in 1959, there was concern that the moon might be covered in low density dust into which any future astronauts might sink.

Now Europa is the source of a similar scariness, with Nelson’s study showing that Europa’s surface could be as much as 95 percent porous.

Nelson’s study of Europa is part of a group of studies he has conducted of both asteroids (44 Nysa, 64 Angelina) and jovian moons (Io, Europa, Ganymede). He conducts his studies via photopolarimetry, the measurement of the intensity and polarization of reflected light.

Observations were made using a photopolarimeter located at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California.

According to Nelson, the observations can be explained by extremely fine-grained particles on Europa’s surface with a porosity less than about 95 percent. This corresponds to material that would be less dense than freshly fallen snow, raising questions about risks of sinking for a future Europa lander.

Brown ridges crisscross Europa, indicating the possibility of liquid welling up from below. This suggests an active geology and raises questions about possible life on Europa.

A mission to land on Europa is challenging in other ways. For example, Europa — along with the three other Galilean moons (Io, Ganymede and Callisto) — orbits within Jupiter’s radiation belts. A spacecraft trying to orbit Europa would be quickly fried.

That’s why NASA’s upcoming Europa Clipper mission is designed to orbit Jupiter, not Europa. It’ll sweep in and out of the radiation belts for a period of several earthly years, making flyby observations of Europa each time it passes near this jovian moon. Its observations will help answer questions about what might happen to future spacecraft attempting to land on Europa.

Bottom line: A recent study via the Planetary Science Institute indicates that the surface of Jupiter’s moon Europa might be as much as 95 percent porous – less dense than freshly fallen snow – so that a future lander might sink.

Speculation of a UFO crash into Earth has taken centre stage after footage has surfaced showing a mysterious burning pit found at the side of a busy motorway.

Authorities are still investigating what they have discovered. The clip shows a thick mist that fills the air from a black hole.

The crater was measured eight metres wide and deep and can be seen smoking heavily, which suggests that the mysterious event had just taken place recently.

There were people on the scene soon after the incident had occurred but no evidence yet to explain what actually took place.

There were suggestions that a UFO or a meteor crashing into Earth may have been the cause the black hole.

The strange event happened on January 17 in Mexico and uploaded to YouTube the next day.

The original video has racked up thousands of views and being shared on several other channels.

Viewers were quick to suggest what it could be.

One comment said that it looked like a UFO landed and took off, leaving a crater.

However, others disagreed saying that it was a burning hole used to dispose rubbish. They explained that it looked like a burning hole and no impact on the earth as there was no debris.

Gangs may have also used the holes to burn drugs, weapons, and bodies.

Others believed that the increased sightings of meteors recently could be linked to the crater.

A radio and television presenter managed to take a picture of incredible clouds brewing in the distance and later noticed what online users believed a UFO in the eye of the storm.

Fernando Figoni is well known for his hosting of music events and media broadcasts. He is from La Plata, capital of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

While at work, Figoni went to the roof of the building to watch the approaching storm in the city. He snapped some pictures and later reviewed them. To his surprise, he spotted something in the sky that he could not identify.

He noticed a bright flying saucer in the middle of the black clouds.

He posted the photos on the social media. Internet users were fast to offer their opinion.

Claudia Bengochea, Natalia Padilla and Pablo Hormiga believe it is a UFO as they think that Fernando would not publish something fake.

Lucas Gaston Aguirre claimed he took a picture the same to what Fernando had taken.

THE world headline-grabbing release of a video of a seemingly inexplicable UFO by the US Pentagon may have been part of a cunning plan to bring in martial law, according to alien conspiracy theorists.

UFO truth seekers celebrated an historic milestone last month after it emerged the Department of Defense had run a top secret unit investigating the threat posed by UFOs until 2012.

Footage filmed by a US Navy pilot of an apparent UFO said to "defy the laws of physics", which was investigated by the department, was also released, leading to claims from some that "we are not alone”.

The footage was from the "Nimitz UFO" incident off the coast of San Diego in November 2004, when a whole naval crew are said to have seen a series of bizarre white tic tac-shaped crafts.

However, some in the UFO community remain suspicious at the motives of the government behind the release of the information.

Alien truth have called for "disclosure" - the release of all alien and UFO-related files to be released.

And many saw last month's revelations as a stepping stone towards this.

However, some members of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) remain suspicious.

MUFON is the world's largest organisation dedicated to UFO research and holds a global database of UFO sightings reported to it.

A theory was raised at the latest meeting of the MUFON Washington branch on Saturday.

Ptleader.com reported: "Those who attended were far from feeling credulous or validated by the New York Times’ coverage, and instead expressed concerns that this seeming bombshell of disclosure might merely represent an even deeper conspiracy by the government.

"They freely exchanged theories about the possible nature of UFOs, as well as what might motivate the mainstream press and government to release such a story.

"A frequently voiced suspicion was that the government might be laying the groundwork to present extraterrestrials as the next threat to national security, requiring further increases in military spending and curtailments of civil liberties."

Martial law is the introduction of direct military control of civilian functions of government, especially in response to a temporary emergency such as invasion or major disaster, or in an occupied territory.

It can be used by governments to enforce their rule over the public.

One woman at the talks said the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II was an "example of how such fears of aliens have been used against the populace”.

A retired MUFON military member said: "The powers that be are so far removed from the rest of us that they think the United States would fall apart if we disclosed that these things exist, and that they’ve been here for years.

Physicists from Brigham Young Univeristy may have just created the best technology for projecting 3D images, but they're not calling these images a hologram. It's still in its earliest stages, but once perfected, its applications could be varied.

NOT A HOLOGRAM

For many sci-fi fans, a truly working hologram is Princess Leia asking Obi Wan Kenobi for help. While that’s clearly science fiction, a projected image that one can observe from all angles may have just become the only hope for authentic 3D projections.

This is the subject of a new study published in the journal Nature, detailing how a team of physicists led by Daniel Smalley from the Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, have managed to project moving 3D images viewable at any angle.

Smalley doesn’t call it a hologram, however. “This is doing something that a hologram can never do — giving you an all-round view, a Princess Leia-style display — because it’s not a hologram,” he told Nature News. An actual hologram, as it exists today, is an image projection coming from a source limited to a particular angle. It can’t be viewed perfectly from all sides.

What Smalley’s team developed is a technique they call volumetric display, where a single particle of a plant fiber called cellulose is trapped and heated evenly using forces from near-invisible laser beams. To illuminate the particle as it moves through space, pushed and pulled by the beams forces, a second set of lasers project visible light onto it.

As the name suggests, the projected image appears to have more volume to it, without the need for headgears or other such devices. “In simple terms, we’re using a laser beam to trap a particle, and then we can steer the laser beam around to move the particle and create the image,” undergrad coauthor Erich Nygaard explained in a BYU press release.

3D PROJECTIONS

The extent of how the technique works is still limited to smaller images. Because of the limited way human eyes can see images, when the particles move faster than a rate of 10 per second, what’s seen is a solid line. This can be made to appear like it’s moving by changing the images even faster. Smalley’s team successfully demonstrated it by projecting the static outline of a butterfly, as well as a moving spiral line drawing. Larger images can also be projected if they are still, or moving slowly.

Admittedly, the technology is still in its very early stages, despite having borrowed from and improved on other similar 3D projections’ systems. For instance, to make more realistic images, Smalley’s team will need to figure out a way to make the particles move faster. “If we make as much progress in the next four years as we made in the last, I think we will be successful making a display of useful size,” Smalley told Nature.

Holography and other 3D-projection technologies are new, and as such their applications are still rather limited. One can imagine how volumetric display — once perfected — could potentially be used to improve entertainment and gaming in the same way virtual and augmented reality devices are trying to do. It could also be used in military training exercises, to simulate battles scenes in 3D.

And perhaps it could be used to send messages across a galaxy far, far away. As Smalley pointed out: “We’re providing a method to make a volumetric image that can create the images we imagine we’ll have in the future.”

The satellite company SES confirmed that its SES-14 communications satellite, which hosts an upper-atmosphere-observation mission from NASA, will be able to reach its final orbit just four weeks late after a launch anomaly saw the rocket lose contact with Earth last night (Jan. 26).

Although Arianespace was unable to communicate with the Ariane 5 second stage carrying SES-14 and another satellite, Al Yah 3, into orbit, the satellites were still successfully released — and each got in contact with its respective control center, Arianespace representatives said. The Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (GOLD) instrument was NASA's first-ever science mission to fly as a hosted payload on a commercial satellite, NASA researchers have said.

SES representatives said in a statement today that the company is now setting up a new orbit-raising plan, which will take SES-14 and GOLD to their final orbit four weeks after this was scheduled to happen; the satellite was slated to take four and a half weeks to maneuver into its high orbit using electric propulsion.

Once they reach its final geostationary orbit, SES-14 and GOLD will remain in position above one spot on Earth as they circle and the planet turns. This will let SES-14 support communications for Latin America, the Caribbean, North America and the North Atlantic region, SES said, and it will give GOLD an ideal vantage point to monitor the rapid flux of the upper atmosphere at the border between Earth and space.

"SES confirms that the spacecraft is in good health, all subsystems on board are nominal and the satellite is expected to meet the designed lifetime," SES representatives said.

In a place you would hardly expect, just one hour north of New York City, lies the site of one of the most widely observed and yet most unexplainable set of UFO sightings ever seen. The place is the Hudson Valley, and the story of its strange UFO started on New Years Eve, 1982.

The Hudson UFO mystery

A few minutes before midnight, a retired police officer was out in his backyard in Kent, New York when he observed a group of strange lights off to the south. They were colored red, green and white. At first the former officer thought they belonged to a jet aircraft in trouble, but as the object passed over his house at a height he estimated to be about 500 feet, he realized it was moving much too slowly for a jet and made too little noise. Just a distant humming sound. As he watched, he decided the the lights, which appeared as a “V” shape, were connected by a dark, triangular fuselage.

What the former officer had seen would be observed many times in the Hudson Valley area over the next few years by hundreds of different witnesses: A “V” shaped set of multicolored lights moving slowly and silently across the sky. On March 26th, 1983, a front-page story in the Westchester-Rockland Daily Item proclaimed:

HUNDREDS CLAIM TO HAVE SEEN UFO

The article, which told of sightings of a triangular UFO on Marth 24th, got the attention of a group of UFO researchers in the Valley associated with Dr. J Allen Hynek, founder of the Center for UFO Studies. The group started an investigation of the phenomena which was later documented as a book, Night Siege: The Hudson Valley UFO Sightings, authored by Dr. Hynek and Philip J. Imbrogno, with the help of Bob Pratt.

The group opened up a UFO hotline and received over 300 calls from people that had seen the UFO on the night of March 24th alone. One witness cited in the book reported that it had moved up the Taconic Parkway in “sort of a Z pattern.” He described the object as being triangular in shape with thirty to forty colored lights along the back edge. The object, he stated, was huge, “If there is such a thing as a flying city, this was a flying city.”

The object apparently cruised over the community of Yorktown that evening too where the police switchboard became so jammed with reports, officials became concerned that they would be unable to take emergency calls.

On the Taconic parkway people pulled over to watch the object as it moved slowly on its path. One observer estimated it was “as large as an aircraft carrier.”

The UFO researchers estimated that over 5,000 people had seen the object over a period of five years from 1982 through 1986. Often the UFO seemed to glide over large areas causing dozens of sightings in one night. It was never spotted during the day.

Most reports came from people who seemed to be reliable witnesses. As the authors put it “ordinary people who have seen something extraordinary.” The UFO was seen not just over the Hudson Valley, but as far east as New Haven, Connecticut and as far north as Brookfield, Connecticut.

While most reports described the UFO moving at a very slow speed, hovering, or turning slowly like a wheel, a few reports described the object as suddenly zooming away at fantastic speeds, or just disappearing. In some accounts the shape varied so that the lights appeared as more of a circle than a “V”. Often the color and arrangement of the lights changed as the viewers watched. In a few cases reports arrived that put the object at two distant locations at the same time suggesting there might be more than one of them.

One of the most striking reports that the group gathered was from guards at the Indian Point Nuclear Plant. The UFO apparently hovered over an active nuclear reactor for some minutes coming as close to the reactor dome as thirty feet. The security supervisor even considered ordering guards to shoot it down. One guard described it as being the length of three football fields.

Strange things

The object also seemed to be interested in bodies of water. One observer watched the UFO over Croton Falls Reservoir where it seemed to use a red beam to probe the surface.

The researchers knew that when investigated most UFO reports turn into reports of IFOs: Identified Flying Objects. Often they turn out to be planes, balloons, satellites, or even the planet Venus. They did find evidence that some of the reports of the “V” shape may have been a group of small planes flying out of the Stormville Airport. The pilots seemed to have been flying their planes in a formation in a deliberate attempt at a UFO hoax.

The plane hoax only cleared up a small number of reports, however. Most observers reported that the lights moved together as a solid object. Others could see the body of the UFO between the lights. None of the observers who had seen both the planes and the object thought they were the same phenomenon.

There are few good explanations for most of the Hudson Valley sightings. The only object that moves slowly through the air and hovers almost silently is a blimp. Researchers contacted all blimp operators in the area and could find no matches between the blimp schedules and the UFO reports. It was widely speculated at the time that object was a formation of ultralight planes. This seems unlikely as the UFO was nearly silent, could hover, and carried tremendously bright lights, all things ultralight aircraft are incapable of doing.

The Hudson Valley UFO remains a mystery even today. If you decide to take a trip to the Hudson Valley to try and see the strange UFO for yourself, you may want to stay at one of the excellent local bed and breakfast Inns. One, the Burlingham Inn, has decided to take advantage of the strange nighttime phenomena by featuring a UFO Bed & Breakfast. They welcome UFO watchers and list UFO sighting as one of the activities for which the Inn is especially well located.

The combination of a supermoon, a blue moon, and a full lunar eclipse on January 31 means NASA scientists will temporarily turn off instruments aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Here’s why.

While skywatchers in North America, Asia, and Europe watch a bigger-than-usual lunar eclipse on January 31, NASA engineers will shut down the instruments aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO).

Eclipses put a strain on the spacecraft because it uses the sun for power. If the moon is in the Earth's shadow, sunlight can't reach it and LRO switches to batter power, principal investigator Noah Petro told Seeker. The LRO team is a veteran group at keeping the spacecraft safe, as total lunar eclipses have occurred seven times since the orbiter’s launch in 2009.

"We did a small [engine] burn to put us in an as optimal position as possible — to be able to keep the spacecraft in illumination for as long as we could. In other words, we did a small tweak to minimize the time we were in shadow," Petro said. As with past eclipses, the team will also "preheat" the spacecraft before it goes into the eclipse, so it's warmer and there is less strain on the instruments.

While LRO has seen many other eclipses, the eclipse, know as "super blue blood moon eclipse," is a rare combination of several phenomena.

While viewers along the East Coast will see only the initial stages of the eclipse before moonset, those in the West and Hawaii will see most or all of the lunar eclipse phases before dawn. NASA

A "supermoon," occurs when the moon is full and is at its closest approach to Earth in its 29 1/2-day elliptical orbit around the planet. Supermoons are 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than the moon at its furthest distance from Earth, according to NASA.

When two full moons occur in a single month, the second event is called a "blue moon." It has no special astronomical significance, but blue moons are still interesting because they occur only once every 2 1/2 years.

A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth passes between the moon and the sun, and the shadow of Earth falls across the moon's surface. Partial and full eclipses are possible. A full eclipse occurs when the moon is fully covered in shadow — which will happen January 31. The combined light of all of Earth's sunrises and sunsets creates a ruddy glow on the moon's surface. Some people call this the "blood moon."

Petro said shut down LRO’s instruments is just an extra precaution to ensure the 8-year-old spacecraft remains safe during the event. During past eclipses, however, LRO continued to collect data.

The spacecraft is designed to take high-resolution pictures of the moon: It's even seen the Apollo landing sites where astronauts undertook moonwalks in the 1960s and 1970s. Other instruments probe lunar ice reserves. LRO data recently helped to identify underground pits of polar ice, which might provide future moon missions with water. And LRO's Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment (DLRE) looks at regolith — aka soil — temperatures.

During a few eclipses, LRO engineers left Diviner on to see what it could find. Normally, the instrument examines temperatures in the top layer of soil — approximately a few tens of centimeters. During an eclipse, however, only the layer just below the surface — about 1 cm to 2 cm — changes temperature rapidly. So eclipses provide a rare opportunity for Diviner to focus its observations on soil just below the surface.

Diviner focuses, whenever possible, on the moon’s youngest craters. Investigators are interested in the lumpiness of the regolith: What is the size of grains of soil near the surface, or is the soil rocky or fine-grained soil? Petro said this is important because "it gives us a better understanding of how impacts modify the surface."

That's not only exciting for moon science, but solar system science in general, Petro said. There are all sorts of "airless" bodies around the solar system covered with craters. Examples include the planet Mercury, dwarf planets Ceres and Pluto, and asteroids such as Vesta. Learning about soil grain size on the moon can help scientists better understand how regolith works on these other worlds.

While NASA will shut down Diviner during the eclipse, Petro said the regolith science will continue. He is in talks with two astronomers in Hawaii who will monitor the regolith temperatures from the ground using infrared instruments.

There are seven instruments aboard LRO and they remain in good health, according to Petro. The spacecraft is currently slated to end operations in 2019, but Petro and his team are preparing a proposal to extend LRO's mission by another three years.

Petro said LRO's mission to the moon has already yielded interesting long-term science, such as how often craters appear on the surface. That's why he's an advocate for keeping the mission running as long as possible.

"It's really a new era for studying the moon," Petro said. "With this long baseline of observations, we're able to see how the moon changes."

Putting a lander down on Jupiter's potentially life-supporting moon Europa could be even trickier than engineers had thought.

Europa's surface may be extremely porous, so any probe that touches down there might run the risk of sinking into a sort of extraterrestrial quicksand, a new study suggests.

In the lab, study team members measured the reflectance properties of various configurations of aluminum oxide powder — a good analog, they said, for the material on the surface of bright, airless bodies such as Europa, which harbors an ocean of liquid water beneath its icy shell. They found that powder composed of very small particles with lots of space between them — material less dense than freshly fallen snow, team members said — shared several key reflectance characteristics with the actual Europan surface.

But the new study is far from the last word on the subject, study team members said.

"Of course, before the landing of the Luna 2 robotic spacecraft in 1959, there was concern that the moon might be covered in low-density dust into which any future astronauts might sink," lead author Robert Nelson, a senior scientist at the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona, said in a statement. "However, we must keep in mind that remote visible-wavelength observations of objects like Europa are only probing the outermost microns of the surface."

NASA has Europa in its sights: The agency is developing a flyby mission to the icy moon, which is expected to launch sometime in the 2020s. This probe, known as Europa Clipper, will study the satellite's buried ocean and assess its habitability using a variety of instruments.

Congress has also instructed NASA to get a lander down on Europa. The agency's current thinking calls for launching a surface probe separate from Clipper.

The new study appears in the March 1 issue of the journal Icarus.

Triton is the largest of Neptune's moons. Discovered in 1846 by British astronomer William Lassell — just weeks after Neptune itself was found — the moon showed some strange characteristics as astronomers learned more about it.

To NASA's knowledge, Triton is the only moon in the solar system that orbits in a direction opposite to the rotation of its planet. Additionally, its surface is a study of contrasts, with smooth plains appearing to be right next to cratered surfaces.

No spacecraft has gone to Neptune since the 1980s, but telescopes are capturing new data on Triton from the ground. A notable recent find was discovering seasons on the moon, using the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile.

Renewed interest in Triton began shortly after the New Horizons mission flew past Pluto in 2015. NASA released the best high-resolution map of Triton to date in 2014 in anticipation of the flyby, because it is believed that Triton and Pluto could share a similar history. They are of similar size, have nitrogen in their atmospheres and also icy surfaces.

Discovery and flyby

Triton was found on Oct. 10, 1846, just 17 days after French astronomer Alexis Bouvard discovered Neptune. According to NASA, Triton was known simply as "the satellite of Neptune" until 1949, when a second moon (Nereid) was found. All of Neptune's moons, according to International Astronomical Union guidelines, are named after Roman or Greek mythological characters associated with Neptune, Poseidon or oceans.

Astronomers had to wait well over a century to see Triton as more than a dot, however. In 1977, NASA sent two Voyager probes on a one-way trip through the outer solar system, taking advantage of a rare planetary alignment that allowed them to move from one location to the next without using a lot of fuel. Voyager 2 flew by Neptune and its system on Aug. 25, 1989.

Among the spacecraft's most stunning finds: icy volcanism is likely taking place on Triton's surface. Voyager 2 took pictures of "several geyser-like volcanic vents that were apparently spewing nitrogen gas laced with extremely fine, dark particles," according to NASA. The agency estimates the particles go as high as 5 miles (8 kilometers) before flowing downwind and striking the surface.

It also appears that a large portion of the surface has melted. NASA said the melting was probably due to tidal heating that began when Neptune captured Triton, which could have left the satellite liquid for at least 1 billion years.

Discoveries after Voyager 2

Although no spacecraft will go by Neptune's system in the near future, computer models and higher-resolution telescopes on Earth are providing new information about Triton's history and environment. (NASA has also released new pictures of Triton from Voyager 2 at least as late as 2009.)

In 2010, long-range infrared observations with the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope revealed that the thin atmosphere of Triton changes with the seasons. At the time the VLT looked at the planet, it was summer in the southern hemisphere, where the sun's warmth thickened the atmosphere.

New models of Neptune could also provide insights on Triton, such as one released in 2015 that looks at the gas giant's magnetosphere. The magnetic field appears to be particularly pronounced on one side, according to Voyager 2 data and the model, and scientists next want to figure out how this field could interact with Triton.

Other information about Triton's history could come from studying small bodies in the solar system, such as Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko. The Rosetta spacecraft gathered data that showed molecular nitrogen on the comet's surface in 2015. From that information, scientists are trying to figure out where the nitrogen came from and how it compares to other bodies with nitrogen in the solar system, such as Triton and Pluto.

Astrobiologists are also considering that Triton could have water under its icy surface. "I think it is extremely likely that a subsurface ammonia-rich ocean exists in Triton," said the University of Maryland's Saswata Hier-Majumder in a 2012 Astrobiology Magazine article republished on Space.com. "[But] there are a number of uncertainties in our knowledge of Triton's interior and past, which makes it difficult to predict with absolute certainty."

One example: because no one is quite sure of the size of Triton's rocky core, that creates difficulty with calculating the amount of heating produced by the decay of radioactive isotopes, also known as radiogenic heating. More heating would increase the size of the ocean.

Flinging aside moons

In 2006, a model published in Nature suggested Triton was originally a member of a binary system that orbited the sun. During a close encounter with the planet, Neptune pulled Triton away from its companion. Researchers in 2017 also postulated that Triton was likely a double-object system, similar to dwarf planet Pluto and its large moon, Charon. In the Astronomical Journal, the authors also noted that when Neptune's gravity captured Triton, the secondary body escaped. Triton survived only because Neptune's system was bereft of a large moon. If there had been a moon moving in a normal (forward) orbit around Neptune, its gravitational influence meant Triton instead would have fallen into Neptune.

The authors also said their research showed that Triton played an important role in the formation of Neptune's system. Some models suggest that Neptune used to have other moons orbiting it. Then, when Triton was captured long ago, some of these moons were propelled into the planet and others were thrown out of orbit.

There are some other indications of chaos in Neptune's system, including the outlying moon Nereid. The moon has an extremely stretched-out orbit around Neptune and takes 360 Earth-days to make a single orbit. In addition, some of these smaller moons around Neptune may have been absorbed into Triton itself. "If we want to look for the primordial Neptunian satellites, my best guess would be to look inside Triton," lead author Raluca Rufu, a doctoral student at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, told Space.com by email in December 2017.

UFO's en dan vooral de grotere moederschepen weten zich vaak uitstekend te verbergen in grote wolken zodat niemand merkt dat ze aanwezig zijn.

Soms gaat het mis en verliezen ze even tijdelijk hun dekking, zoals dit gebeurde in Jamaica.

Voor het gros van de mensheid klinkt het nog altijd ongelooflijk dat grote (buitenaarde) ruimteschepen zich op aarde bevinden, vaak pal onder onze neus, zonder dat iemand iets ziet.

En toch gebeurt het en door de jaren heen hebben wij er talloze artikelen over geschreven met bewijs en getuigenverklaringen van dit fenomeen.

Normaal zie je ze niet omdat ze eruit zien als wolken en dan ook vaak in een heldere lucht waar op dat moment helemaal geen wolken thuis horen. Maar, soms gaat het mis, zoals enkele dagen geleden in Jamaica, toen de zon achter een wolk ervoor zorgde dat een groot moederschip even heel duidelijk zichtbaar werd. Het schijnt dat bij bepaalde momenten op de dag (zonsopkomst en -ondergang) de condities het beste zijn om zich te verbergen/cloaken en bij afwijkende omstandigheden, zoals waarchijnlijkonverwacht in Jamaica, is dat een stuk lastiger.

Als je wat verder inzoomt op het object dan zie je duidelijk de solide contouren van een een cloaked ruimteschip. Met de beste wil van de wereld is dit niet te verklaren als onderdeel van een wolk.

Youtuber UFOmania has also made a video that shows different sculptures and artifacts unearthed in Mexico. The stunning video soon went viral on social media receiving thousands of views and shares. After the release of the video, alien buffs are convinced that extraterrestrial creatures once roamed on earth.

Onderzoekers hebben voor het eerst aangetoond dat gletsjers op Groenland smelten als gevolg van warmte die uit het binnenste van de aarde ontsnapt.

Door deze warmte uit de aarde beginnen de gletsjers langzaam maar zeker richting de zee te glijden.

“In het noordoosten van Groenland bevinden zich verschillende geisers waar het water temperaturen van 60 graden Celsius bereikt,” zei hoofdonderzoeker Soren Rysgaard van de Universiteit van Aarhus in Denemarken.

“Er is veel ondergrondse geothermische activiteit in het gebied,” voegde hij toe.

Op het moment dat warmte vrijkomt onder een fjord, bereikt die warmte ook de onderste delen van de gletsjers.

Dit betekent dat de gletsjers van onderen smelten en dus gemakkelijker over het terrein glijden terwijl ze zich richting de zee verplaatsen.

Geen twijfel

“Er is geen twijfel over mogelijk dat de warmte uit het binnenste van de aarde de verplaatsing van het ijs beïnvloedt,” zei professor Rysgaard.

“We denken dat onder een groot deel van de ijskap in het noordoosten van Groenland warmte uit de aarde ontsnapt,” vervolgde hij.

Het onderzoek is verschenen in het gerenommeerde blad Scientific Reports.

Record

Afgelopen jaar werden in de zomer boven westelijk Groenland temperaturen tot -36 graden Celsius gemeten. Op de Groenlandse ijskap werd in juli een temperatuur van -33 graden gemeten.

“Niet eerder was het in juli in Groenland zo koud!” schreef weerman Jan Visser toen. “Het record stond op -30,7 graden in 1982.”

De hoeveelheden sneeuw waren al sinds het najaar van 2016 ruimschoots boven normaal, voegde hij toe.

Uit de praktijk is bekend dat oceanen zich vlak voor een tsunami ver terugtrekken, maar nu gebeurt dit zonder dat die vloedgolf volgt.

Tsunami's zijn enorme vloedgolven en deze doen zich nu volkomen onverwacht voor zonder dat er een aanleiding voor is zoals bijvoorbeeld een aardbeving.

Het is nog steeds hetzelfde verhaal waar we iedere keer tegenaan lopen. Er gebeurt ergens iets op deze wereld, men bericht erover en dat wat er gebeurt, wordt beschouwd als een op zichzelf staand incident.

Het is pas wanneer je een aantal zaken met elkaar in verband brengt, dat er zorgwekkende patronen ontstaan waaruit blijkt dat er grote onzichtbare krachten werkzaam zijn op deze aarde. Er gebeuren op dit moment verschillende dingen waar niemand een verklaring voor heeft, want de normale logica die in dit soort situaties altijd wordt toegepast, werkt niet langer.

Enkele dagen geleden gebeurde het volgende in Mexico:

Shannon Christensen was met haar partner Dylan op vakantie in Mexico en genoot regelmatig van wandelingen langs het prachtige strand. Op de volgende foto's zie je Christina en het strand waar ze bijna om het leven kwam.

Enkele dagen ging ze rond middernacht met Dylan nog even voor een wandeling langs het verlaten strand, toen ze plotseling werd meegenomen door een enorme golf die volkomen vanuit het niets verscheen. Voor ze besefte wat er was gebeurd, lag ze in het water en dreigde te verdrinken.

Het gebeurde zo snel dat ze geen tijd had om te schreeuwen en Dylan die iets verderop met zijn rug naar haar toe stond, had niet gemerkt dat Shannon was verdwenen.

Het weer was kalm die avond, geen storm en in een tijdsbestek van enkele seconden veranderde de vriendelijk kabbelende zee in een enorme golf die zo sterk was dat hij Shannon meesleurde. Op het moment dat het gebeurde, stond ze tot aan haar enkels in het water.

Ze heeft al met al ongeveer een uur in het water gelegen en deed haar uiterste best om niet in paniek te raken en haar energie zoveel mogelijk te sparen. Hoewel ze een geoefend zwemster is, had ze toch grote moeite om niet in paniek te raken. Ze zag alleen water en enorm hoge golven.

Het lukte haar uiteindelijk om ongeveer een kilometer verderop weer aan land te komen en was dolblij uiteraard dat ze het zand van het strand weer onder haar voeten kon voelen.

Afgelopen zondag gebeurde er iets vergelijkbaars in het Zuid Afrikaanse Durban en dit keer overleefde het slachtoffer, een 7-jarig meisje, de gebeurtenis niet.

De zee was die dag aardig wild, maar ook daar eigenlijk vanuit het niets een soort monstergolf die het meisje van de pier sleurde waar ze met haar moeder aan het wandelen was. Ze werd al snel uit het water gehaald, maar ondanks reanimatiepogingen heeft het kind dit helaas niet overleefd.

Sommigen spreken zelfs van een mini tsunami en er was wederom geen enkele aanleiding voor een golf die wordt omschreven als: The wave which washed the girl into the rough seas was described as a “monster wave” and a freak wave.

Een golf die niet wordt verwacht, waar geen aanleiding voor is en die als uit het niets verschijnt.

Dit soort gebeurtenissen zijn precies het tegenovergestelde van datgene wat recent gebeurde, zoals we schreven in een eerder artikel:

Op 9 januari was er een zeer krachtige 7.6 aardbeving in het Caraïbisch gebied; één van de meest krachtige aardbevingen ooit in die regio en hoewel er een tsunami waarschuwing werd afgegeven, kwam deze gelukkig niet.

Echter, de dagen daarvoor deed zich een vreemd verschijnsel voor met betrekking tot het water van de oceaan op twee verschillende plaatsen. Op beide locaties trok het water van de oceaan zich abnormaal ver terug en op de volgende afbeelding zie je dat de ene locatie op gelijke afstand ten noorden van de aardbeving ligt als de andere ten zuiden ervan.

Vanuit Florida komen berichten dat het water zich heel ver terugtrok op verschillende dagen en ook op variërende plekken, eigenlijk vanaf 3 januari tot net voor de aardbeving.

Ook voor de kust van Ecuador deed zich het merkwaardige verschijnsel voor op 5 januari, waarbij het water van de oceaan zich heel ver terugtrok, op een manier zoals je dat ziet voorafgaand aan een tsunami. Maar, er was absoluut geen sprake van een tsunami.

De volgende video gaat wat dieper in op de gebeurtenissen en de maker ontdekt dat er vóór de aardbeving nog een aantal plekken waren waar vreemde dingen gebeurden met water. Alsof er een grote onzichtbare kracht enorme watermassa's zomaar kan verplaatsen.

Ongetwijfeld zal weerman Gerrit Hiemstra er een verklaring voor kunnen bedenken, maar de rest van de wereld kan dat niet en de maker van onderstaande video komt dan ook tot de conclusie dat er een grote onzichtbare kracht aan het werk is.

Verder wordt er melding gemaakt van boeien in de oceaan die grote op- een neerwaartse bewegingen maken zonder enige aanleiding en ook komen er nu berichten dat er zich een onverwachte vloedgolf voordeed in Ecuador zoals te zien in de video hieronder.

Al deze gebeurtenissen zullen door de mainstream media nooit met elkaar in verband worden gebracht en wanneer je ze allemaal als afzonderlijke en niet gerelateerde zaken bekijkt, dan zie je ook nooit het grotere beeld.

En dat grotere beeld is dat er grote onbekende krachten inwerken op onze planeet die voor steeds heftiger wordende aardveranderingen zorgen. Het doet ons ook denken aan wat onze trouwe lezer Bert vorig jaar al schreef; water zal een hoofdrol spelen in de komende periode.

This dark UFO was seen over the Australian outback, which believe it or not, is a hotbed of UFO activity. I get lots of comments from people in Australia saying its common place to see a UFO in the outback. This is a great photo of one of those Australian catches. The tilt of the craft shows that it was in motion when the photo was taken. Often disks need to tilt to change directions, but this doesn't apply to all UFOs.

Here is another report just in from down under. This is a semi-transparent UFO, which means its cloaked, but visible because of the angle of light of the sun and the eyewitness. You can see the bottom of the craft is the brightest, but the sun is above, so this is not a reflection. The UFO is whitish blue. Its shaped almost like the Russian space capsule the brings astronauts back to Earth, except for the short arms around its top. So cool the eyewitness was watching it, yet, the UFO was watching them back.

Further past the Ibis I noticed an orb/ball hovering still in the sky that then started to move from south to north - it occasionally slowed to a stop before starting to move again in a reasonaably straight line. It was traveling very slowly and nothing like the plane I saw a few minutes earlier. I asked my wife to keep watch while I went indoors and got my binoculars and digital camera. I took some photos on full optical and digital zoom that are not particularly clear due to the distance and reflection off the object. Through the binoculars however I could see that the object was a solid ball but could not ascertain the size as I had nothing to compare it to. I would guess it was maybe 1 meter or so in diameter as it was definitely not as big as an aircraft but larger than the Ibis (they have an average wingspan of 110 - 123cm). Eventually the object moved in a large arc to the west before going behind a cloud. The cloud dissipated and the object was gone - I had been watching the whole time and it did not re-appear from the cloud but just vanished. I initially thought it may have been a satellite as I had observed them before but when it changed direction and came to a stand still I ruled that out (though I am no expert on satellites and their movement).

THE US Government has stored away mystery metals thought to have come from UFOs that were visiting Earth, according to a former British MoD insider.

Nick Pope believes metal from UFOs has been recovered by the US.

In December the New York Times revealed details of a top-secret Department of Defense (DoD) prorgamme to investigate any threat from UFOs that ended in 2012.

The report about the DoD £16 million Advance Aerial Threat Identification Programme (AATIP) also astonishingly claimed that the material, that was said to be “unknown to science” following tests, was stored in buildings modified by a private aerospace company which was paid huge amounts of money by the DoD to research the phenomenon and look after the “metal alloys.”

The AATIP was run by military intelligence official, Luis Elizondo, on the fifth floor of the Pentagon’s C wing.

Mr Elizondo resigned to form UFO research group To The Stars Academy with former Blink 182 singer Tom DeLonge.

The bulk of the money went to Bigelow Aerospace in Las Vegas, run by billionaire US businessman Robert Bigelow, who is also working with NASA to create a new expandable spacecraft.

However, no images have surfaced of the alleged material, nor have any details of where it was found, or any reports of tests carried out on it.

Ralph Blumenthal, one of the reporters who worked on the story, later clarified: "They have, as we reported in the paper, some material from these objects that is being studied so that scientists can find what accounts for their amazing properties, this technology of these objects, whatever they are.

"It's some kind of compound that they don't recognise.

"We printed as much as we were able to verify. Can't go beyond that."

After a number of claims about the accuracy of the report emerged, Nick Pope, who previously investigated the potential threat posed by UFOs for the British MoD, came forward to back the report's claims.

Although his enquiries in the 1990s revealed no such threat existed, and no metals were found in the UK, he is convinced mystery metal is being stored in the US.

There are recovered "materials", the full details of which have yet to be disclosed.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, he said: "The recent revelations about the Pentagon's UFO project are all true.

"The project existed and was funded to the tune of $22 million.

"Some of the personnel involved with this project came to believe some of the objects were extraterrestrial.

"There are recovered "materials", the full details of which have yet to be disclosed."

We asked Mr Pope how he could be so certain that the metals existed and were in storage.

He said: "As to how we know these alloys exist, there are two points.

"Firstly, Luis Elizondo has clearly told the New York Times and others about this aspect of the AATIP project.

"Secondly, the original New York Times article on December 16 states that the paper saw contracts relating to the project, maybe as a result of Freedom of Information Act requests, but possibly as a result of material having been passed to them by Luis Elizondo or by someone else associated with the project.

"The implication in the New York Times article is that the alloys were mentioned in one of these contracts, which would have had to have contained some breakdown of how the money was going to be spent.

"A specific expense seems to have been the modification of some Bigelow Aerospace buildings to store these alloys and other UFO-related materials."

He described the New York Times fact-checking process as "meticulous."

He added: "They were obviously very, very sure about this aspect of the story.

"As I've said previously, there are various tests that can be done on alloys, and clearly these tests will have been done.

"The results will be known. It's just a question of whether the fact that these tests were done for AATIP but carried out by Bigelow Aerospace is sufficient to keep the results outside the scope of the US Freedom of Information Act.

"We don't know how these alloys and other materials were obtained.

"We're told they relate to UFOs, and if they come from some sort of military encounter, this is potentially very significant.

"However, we also know that Bigelow Aerospace acquired all sorts of UFO-related materials from civilian UFO research groups such as the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

Mr Pope said: "Imagine a scenario where a farmer sees a UFO over his cow pasture, and later found some bits of metal in the field.

"He assumes - maybe wrongly - that it's connected with the sighting, and gives it to a UFO investigator.

"Subsequently, it's acquired by Bigelow Aerospace and ends up as part of the AATIP project.

"If this is the sort of way in which these materials became part of the AATIP project, then they might not be exotic or significant at all."

Richard Sachleben, a retired chemist and member of the American Chemical Society's panel of experts, is not convinced.

He told Live Science. "My opinion? That's quite impossible.

"There are databases of all known phases [of metal], including alloys.

"There are no alloys that are sitting in some warehouse that we cannot figure out what they are.

"In fact, it's pretty simple, and any reasonably good metallurgical grad student can do it for you."

May Nyman, a professor in the Oregon State University Department of Chemistry, said the databases include straightforward techniques for identifying metal alloys.

He said If an unknown alloy appeared, it would be relatively simple to figure out what it was made of.

Just over 80 years ago, humanity first began broadcasting radio and television signals with sufficient force to leave the Earth’s atmosphere and move deeper into the interstellar space. If someone living in a distant star system is vigilantly watching these signals, he will not only be able to catch them, but also immediately identifies their sender as a reasonable species. But over the past half-century, we have developed far more effective means of communication for the entire globe than radio and television signals. Does this mean that the search for aliens in the electromagnetic spectrum no longer makes sense?

This question is, of course, unusually speculative, but it gives us an opportunity to look at our own technical progress and consider how it could take place elsewhere in the universe. In the end, if someone from a society in which they communicate with the signals of drums and fires, finds himself deep in the forest, he can come to the conclusion that there is no intelligent life around. But give him a phone and he can contact his relatives. Our conclusions can be as biased as the methods that we apply.

The mechanism of electricity began to be understood only in the late 18th century, thanks to the works of Ben Franklin. The power of electricity began to feed our wires and other devices only in the 19th century, and the phenomena of classical electromagnetics began to be understood only in the second half of this century. The first transmissions of electromagnetic signals took place only in 1895, and radio broadcasting brought us to the interstellar medium only by the 1930s.
The speed of light is also very limited: if our radio signals travel through interstellar space only 80 years, it means that only civilizations within a radius of 80 light years can catch these signals and only civilizations within a radius of 40 light-years can catch the signal and send back the answer that today would have come. If the Fermi paradox poses the question “where is everyone?”, The answer is “not within a radius of 40 light years from us.” But what can this say about intelligent life in the universe? Never mind.
Although there may be hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy and about two trillion galaxies in the observed universe, there are less than 1,000 stars within 40 light-years from Earth.
In addition, electromagnetic signals that leave the Earth in interstellar space, decrease, but do not increase. Television and radio signals are increasingly transmitted through cables or transmitted through a satellite, rather than the broadcast towers on Earth. A century will pass, and, most likely, the signals that we sent throughout the 20th century, will cease to leave the Earth at all. Perhaps the alien civilization will conclude that this blue, water planet with life has reached a certain stage of development, and then it was destroyed, and the signals stopped sending.
In other words, to draw conclusions about what is and what is not, according to the specific form of the electromagnetic signal, is a completely erroneous strategy.
If we looked at the Earth from a close distance in visible light, we would undoubtedly decide that it is inhabited: the glow of cities at night is an unmistakable sign of activity. But such light pollution is a relatively new phenomenon. We constantly learn and invest money, effort and time to get rid of it. There is no reason to believe that by the end of the 21st century the Earth will look the same as it is now, and not as it looked billions of years before: a dark, sometimes shone with light, thunderstorms or volcanoes.

But if you look for no electromagnetic signals, then what? Everything in the universe is limited by the speed of light, and any signal created on another planet must somehow manifest itself so that we can notice it. These signals fall into four categories:
Electromagnetic signals including any form of light of any wavelength that could indicate the presence of an intelligent life
Gravitational wave signals, which – in case of belonging to a reasonable life – we can detect a sufficiently sensitive equipment from anywhere in the universe
Neutrino signals – which, though extremely dispersed at great distances – could become an unmistakable sign under certain conditions
Finally, macroscopic space probes, robotic, computerized, autonomous or inhabited, which approach the Earth
Surprisingly, our fantastic imagination is focused almost exclusively on the fourth possibility, which is least likely.
When you think about the huge distances between stars, about how many stars have potentially inhabited planets (or even satellites), and how much resources you need to physically send a space probe from one planet to another planet, from another star, this method of communication seems completely insane . It is much easier to build a detector that could explore different regions of the sky and find signals that will absolutely indicate the existence of intelligent life.

From the point of view of the electromagnetic spectrum, we know how our living world reacts to the seasons. In winter and summer our planet “shines” differently. Together with the change of times, colors change in different parts of our planet. Having a fairly large telescope (or array of telescopes), one could see the individual signs of our civilization: cities, satellites, airplanes and so on. But perhaps the best thing we could find is changes in the natural environment that correspond to what only intelligent civilization would create.
We have not done this yet, but, perhaps, large-scale modifications of the planet – that’s what we should look for. Do not forget that the civilization that we will find is unlikely to be a technological baby, like us. If it survived and survived all catastrophes, it will be tens or hundreds of thousands of years older and more advanced than us. Just remember how we were just 200 years ago.
Perhaps, as our technology of gravitational waves becomes sufficiently developed to detect the first signals of the universe, we will begin to reveal more subtle manifestations of activity in space. Perhaps we will be able to identify a planet with tens of thousands of satellites in orbit along its unique gravitational-waveprint. Now this area is very young, so it has a long way to go. But these signals do not disappear as electromagnetic signals do, and there is no way to hide them. Perhaps in a hundred or two years it will be our main tool for exploring outer space.

But there is another option. What source of energy will be used by a sufficiently developed civilization? Maybe nuclear. It is more likely that this will be the synthesis energy, a special type of synthesis that differs from that which occurs in the nuclei of stars, and emits a very, very specific neutrino signature as a by-product. And these neutrinos will directly indicate that energy is born not in the natural, but in the technogenic process.
If we can predict what kind of signature it is, understand it, build a detector for it and measure it, we can find a civilization that works on nuclear fusion anywhere, and we do not have to worry whether it transmits radio signals or not. As long as it generates energy, we can find it.

Long before the ancestors of living people today entered Eurasia 60,000 years ago, other Homo sapiens groups had already occupied parts of the continent. Fossil finds have already recently established that early modern humans settled in the Levant and East Asia by 120,000 years ago, but a new discovery is further eroding the pre-existing consensus model.

Scientists have confirmed the presence of an archaic Homo sapiens jaw fragment and a significant number of skilfully worked stone tools present at the Misliya Cave site, one of Mt Carmel’s many caves. The article published on the research project, Israelifossils are the oldest modern humans ever found outside of Africa,appeared in the science journal Nature. This story has initiated a wave of worldwide media attention. The archaeological site is situated just a few kilometres away from the Skhul cave, which has previously produced modern human remains dated at 80,000–120,000-year-old. The new find was so much older than the team spent several years ensuring all possible checks were done to validate the find and assign it to the correct species, in this instance archaic Homo sapiens. After considerable analysis, the jaw fragment was dated at 177,000–194,000 years ago.

“We called it ‘Searching for the Origins of the Earliest Modern Humans’. This was what we were looking for,” says Mina Weinstein-Evron, an archaeologist at the University of Haifa in Israel.

It is usually thought that early modern humans in the Levant and the Middle East were unable to expand beyond this region into Eurasia, dying out by some unknown mechanism, the assumption being that they had flowed out from Africa. There is no solid evidence to say these groups did indeed emerge from Africa of course. With recent confirmation that the Chinese Dali Skull is that of an archaic Homo sapiens individual (from 260,000 years ago), we must keep a degree of scepticism regarding the mainstream scientists’ assumptions on the geographic origins of this population.

Professor Hiscock, an archaeologist from the University of Sydney, has raised the question of whether this individual was an ancestor of living humans and also commented on the claim that these early modern humans were unable to expand beyond the Levant.

“If that’s true, why did they die out and why were our ancestors able to move out when these people didn’t, given that they’re anatomically the same as us?” he said.

Human origins are a rather murky business, there is no definitive narrative to this story beyond a few fixed points between which lines can potentially be drawn in multiple (at times conflicting) directions. The first thing anyone that follows palaeoanthropology should recognise is that the entire subject is dependent not so much on archaeological and genetic evidence as it is on accurate interpretations and sensible assumptions. There is currently no sample of Homo sapiens DNA older than 45,000 years, and the fossil record for archaic Homo sapiens is sparse. This means any favoured human origins hypothesis can change rapidly on the turn of a trowel.

This incredibly ancient human bone further erodes the waning recent out of Africa model, not only were early modern human populations living beyond Africa 120,000 years ago but that they had already colonised western Eurasia almost 200,000 years. This date from Israel is virtually contemporary with those of the oldest early modern human remains found in East Africa, at 160,000 – 195,000 years of age (the Omo and Herto Skulls).

This latest announcement comes hot on the heels of several other ‘problematic’ findings, including a new status for China’s Dali Skull, now identified as being that of a 260,000-year-old archaic Homo sapiens. The other major upset for existing models involved the detection of an interbreeding event between Neanderthals and archaic Homo sapiens which occurred somewhere in Eurasia around 270,000 years ago, emerging from the study of a Neanderthal bone at the Hohlenstein-Stadel archaeological site in Germany. The Hohlenstein-Stadel genetic study was published by Nature in late 2016, under the title Deeply divergent archaic mitochondrial genome provides lower time boundary for African gene flow into Neanderthals.

When we factor in additional discoveries of potential early Homo sapiens populations living at Jebel Irhoud in Morocco around 300,000 years ago and others in China at dates closely matching those of the Dali skull, we begin to recognise Homo sapiens as a highly mobile and widespread species even from their very earliest appearance in the fossil record. It is time to completely abandon any romantic idea of a human genesis in an Eden-like human enclave somewhere in East Africa around 200,000 years ago.

“The fossil could indicate that Israel and the rest of the Arabian Peninsula were part of a larger region in which H. sapiens evolved”, says John Shea, an archaeologist at Stony Brook University in New York.

Perhaps the most intriguing implication of these very early modern human population in the Levant is that we no longer require a migration 120,000 years ago to explain fossils from that later period. It may well be that these more recent human populations were the descendants of the former archaic Homo sapiens present across the continent. Perhaps it is time for us to be more sceptical of claims involving additional migrations out of Africa and consider other interpretations of the available evidence.

Two rocks that crashed to Earth from space in 1998 are the 1st meteorites found to contain both liquid water and a mix of complex organic compounds such as hydrocarbons and amino acids.

Two space rocks, which separately crashed to Earth in 1998 after spending billions of years in our solar system’s asteroid belt, share something in common: the ingredients for life. That’s according to a study published January 10, 2018, in the journal Science Advances.

The study scientists analyzed the chemical makeup within tiny blue and purple salt crystals sampled from these meteorites. They said that the two meteorites are the first ever found to contain a mix of complex organic compounds such as hydrocarbons and amino acids, as well as microscopic traces of liquid water believed to date back to the infancy of our solar system – about 4.5 billion years ago.

The researchers also found evidence for the pair’s past intermingling and likely parents – including Ceres, a dwarf planet that’s the largest object in the asteroid belt, and the asteroid Hebe, a major source of meteorites that fall on Earth.

Queenie Chan is a planetary scientist and postdoctoral research associate at The Open University in the U.K. and the study’s lead author. Chan said in a statement:

This is really the first time we have found abundant organic matter also associated with liquid water that is really crucial to the origin of life and the origin of complex organic compounds in space.

We’re looking at the organic ingredients that can lead to the origin of life including the amino acids needed to form proteins.

Chan said the similarity of the crystals found in the meteorites – one of which smashed into the ground near a children’s basketball game in Texas in March 1998 and the other which hit near Morocco in August 1998 – suggest that their asteroid hosts may have crossed paths and mixed materials.

There are also structural clues of an impact – perhaps by a small asteroid fragment impacting a larger asteroid, Chan said, which opens up many possibilities for how organic matter may be passed from one host to another in space. Chan said:

Things are not as simple as we thought they were.

There are also clues, Chan said, based on the organic chemistry and space observations, that the crystals may have originally been seeded by ice- or water-spewing volcanic activity on Ceres.

Everything leads to the conclusion that the origin of life is really possible elsewhere. There is a great range of organic compounds within these meteorites, including a very primitive type of organics that likely represent the early solar system’s organic composition.

Bottom line: New study says two meteorites are the first found to contain both liquid water and a mix of complex organic compounds.

According to a new study by scientists from the University of Washington, a simple approach to look for life might be more promising than just searching for oxygen.

The recently published study offers a revolutionary new recipe that could help astronomers find evidence whether or not a distant planet may harbor life.

“This idea of looking for atmospheric oxygen as a biosignature has been around for a long time. And it’s a good strategy — it’s very hard to make much oxygen without life,” said corresponding author Joshua Krissansen-Totton, a UW doctoral student in Earth and space sciences. “But we don’t want to put all our eggs in one basket. Even if life is common in the cosmos, we have no idea if it will be life that makes oxygen. The biochemistry of oxygen production is very complex and could be quite rare.”

The new technique has experts looking for a gas mixture that includes abundant methane and carbon dioxide but lacks carbon monoxide.

To come up with the new technique, scientists from the University of Washington looked back at the history of life on Earth and searched for times when Earth’s atmosphere had a mixture of gases that were out of equilibrium, which could only be present if there were living organisms on Earth.

Researchers note in the article that life’s ability to produce vast amounts of oxygen can be traced back relatively recently, to one-eighth of Earth’s history.

This is why scientists decided to look back further and identified a new combination of gasses that may help scientists find traces of life on other planets: methane plus carbon dioxide, minus carbon monoxide.

We need to look for fairly abundant methane and carbon dioxide in a world that has liquid water at its surface and find an absence of carbon monoxide.

“Our study shows that this combination would be a compelling sign of life. What’s exciting is that our suggestion is doable, and may lead to the historic discovery of an extraterrestrial biosphere in the not-too-distant future.”

The new study offers a revolutionary new way by which scientists can hunt for aliens.

The paper looks at different ways a planet can produce methane, and scientists take into consideration asteroid impacts, outgassing from the planet’s interior, reactions of rocks and water, discovering that it would be extremely difficult to produce methane on rocky, Earth-like planets without the presence of living organisms.

Researchers note that if methane and carbon dioxide are detected together on a planet, and without the presence of carbon monoxide, then that is a chemical imbalance that suggests there is life.

“Carbon monoxide is a gas that would be readily eaten by microbes,” Krissansen-Totton said. “So, if carbon monoxide were abundant, that would be a clue that perhaps you’re looking at a planet that doesn’t have biology.”

YouTube has become a video repository for UFO videos, collections of images edited as videos showing inexplicable discoveries on both the Moon, Mars and other places in the solar system.

The video-uploading Social Network has quickly lost control of what is posted on the site as hundreds of thousands of people record and upload videos of strange events they say are proof of aliens and UFOS.

Regrettably, while there may be quite a few videos which are actually the real deal and offer proof of the existence of UFOs, there is a huge amount of fake videos posted on YouTube, most of them being the product of Computer Generated images (CGI).

Now a new video uploaded to YouTube has made headlines around the world after a man from Mexico called Diego Alves uploaded a very peculiar clip on his YouTube channel.

Since then, it has gained much popularity and has been reposted to several other YouTube accounts.

The ‘controversial video’ seems to show what everyone wants to see: A UFO taking off from the Moon, and shooting into space.

It must be the real deal, right?

Users rushed to comment on the video: “That UFO looks like it’s coming from a hole out of the moon. This is a great video.”

And another added: “Something is Coming, I can feel it.”

A third comment claimed: “That is the best UFO footage I have ever seen.

But hold your horses, not all is as it appears.

UFO debunkers quickly spotted that Mr. Aviles’ Facebook page was filled with CGI content (very talented he is) and that he was a graphic artist who has made a host of stunning CGI videos.

While the video may be undoubtedly awesome, and while it appears to clearly show a mystery object shooting off from the surface of the moon at great speed, the truth is that the man who uploaded the Video, Diego Aviles is a graphic artist who has made a host of stunning CGI videos.

The video is a product of two parts: the moon filmed from a telescope and a small object that was added afterward making it appear as if it was taking off from the moon, and shooting into outer space.

Earth’s moon is a mysterious place. Yes, and there are many things on the surface which are hard to explain. Dr. Robert Jastrow, the first president of NASA’s Commission of Lunar Exploration called the moon “the Rosetta Stone of the planets.” And yes, there are several theories that suggest the moon is both a massive alien base or has numerous bases on its surface whose origin remains a mystery. In July of 1970, two Russian scientists, Mikhail Vasin and Alexander Shcherbakov, published an article in the Soviet journal Sputnik called “Is the Moon the Creation of Alien Intelligence?” The theory proposed by the two experts offers arguments that would explain the countless enigmas surrounding the moon and its creation.

The Russian scientific duo proposed the theory that Earth’s Moon is not a natural satellite, but a planetoid that was literally hollowed out eons ago in the far reaches of the universe by super advanced intelligent beings possessing a technology far superior to ours, even today.

Anyhow, while there are numerous interesting theories worth pursuing in terms of Aliens and UFO’s, videos like the one uploaded to Mr. Avila’s YouTube channel damage serious UFO investigations.

Les stupéfiants ovni survolant l’océan…

Nouvelle vidéo récemment publiée qui nous montrerait un groupe de treize ovni survolant l’océan.

Ces nouvelles images auraient été filmées par des gardes-côtes, il n’y a que peu d’information sur cette séquence. Sur les images que l’on peut voir des objets très lumineux de couleur vive, presque rouge. Ces anomalies se trouvent au-dessus de la mer. Les ovni semblent se positionner en plusieurs petits groupes. Ils volent assez près de la mer et semblent assez éloignés du bateau. Ils ne donnent pas l’impression de se déplacer, ils sont peut-être en vol stationnaire mais difficile à dire.

Les images sont malheureusement très secouées, la vidéo a été prise à partir d’un hors-bord qui se déplaçait rapidement en s’éloignant. On ne peut pas vraiment voir la forme des appareils étant donné la distance importante qui les sépare de la caméra. On est trop loin pour voir le moindre détail et de vraiment savoir de quoi nous sommes en présence.

On manque clairement d’information sur cette affaire. On ne connaît ni la position ni la date où les images ont été filmées. Comme dans beaucoup de vidéo de ce type, ce manque d’élément ne va pas en sa faveur. Les objets sont un peu trop loin pour pouvoir savoir de quoi il s’agit, il pourrait s’agir de lanterne japonaise ou bien de drone. Il pourrait aussi s’agir d’incrustation, mais je doute que ce soit le cas dans cette nouvelle affaire. Nous pourrions aussi être en présence de leurs qui auraient été largué par un avion. On peut aussi penser à une formation d’engin extraterrestre, mais on manque vraiment de détail. La couleur de ces objets fait tout de même plus penser à des lanternes japonaises. La qualité des images étant assez mauvaise, il est assez difficile de conclure.

For the second year in a row, the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists has moved the symbolic “Doomsday Clock” thirty seconds closer to midnight. The clock, which exists to show how close humanity is to annihilation, is now uncomfortably sitting at “two minutes to midnight,” matching the closest the it has ever come to the zero hour in its entire 71-years of existence. The last time the clock was in this position was when the United States and the Soviet Union performed test detonations of hydrogen bombs.

Rachel Bronson, president of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists spoke to reporters directly citing “the failure of President Trump and other world leaders to deal with looming threats of nuclear war and climate change.” The panel points to the Trump’s administration’s loosening of the country’s policies on nuclear weapons use and development as a signal that the President intends to follow up his rhetoric with dangerous actions.

The panel also is concerned with the state of nuclear programs in Pakistan, India, Russia, and North Korea, and respective leaders’ responses to ratcheting up tensions. The statement included other factors like Trump’s resistance to supporting any deals that would lead to monitoring of Iran’s nuclear program, as well as China’s claims to territory in the South China Sea.

According to the Bulletin, an increasingly fractured response to climate change is the last crucial factor that is pushing the clock’s hand towards the end of humanity. The threats posed by climate change make the Doomsday Clock tick since 2007, when the Bulletin described them as “nearly as dire” as the threat of nuclear weapons.

TURN BACK THE CLOCK

Even for a symbolic exercise like the Doomsday Clock, the return to a time of fear as dire as the Cold War is unsettling. And what’s remarkable, never before this level of global risk has been so closely tied to the words and actions of a single man.

In an op-ed penned for the Washington Post last year, when the clock was moved to 2.30 minutes to midnight, Lawrence M. Krauss and retired Navy Rear Adm. David Titley said, “Never before has the Bulletin decided to advance the clock largely because of the statements of a single person. But when that person is the new president of the United States, his words matter.”

It has gotten to the point where experts and lawmakers are discussing restricting the President’s powers to use nuclear weapons. Foreign relations experts Jeffrey Bader and Jonathan D. Pollack would welcome new rules stripping Trump of the ability to launch a nuclear strike on his own authority.

Even if such a resolution ever made it through a Congress controlled by the President’s own party, that just addresses one of the troubling players in this dangerous powder keg of global affairs. It will take much more skillful diplomacy to turn the tide away from the possibility of a global arms race of the likes of the Cold War.

The world’s response to climate change must also seek a renewed cohesion if we hope turn back the steady trend of which the Doomsday Clock is just a headline-grabbing indicator. One important step would be for the United States to rethink the resolutionto move away from the Paris Agreement and defund important scientific research.
