The universe could be a more lonely place than we ever imagined. A new study has cast doubt on the existence of alien life after discovering that a chemical called phosphorus is less abundant than anyone expected

The element is vital to energy storage and transfer in cells, and is part of the chemical backbone of DNA.

Phosphorus is created in supernovae, exploding massive stars at the end of their lives.

But the new research suggests that typical supernovae may not provide the conditions needed for forging the element.

Earth may be unusually lucky, because it happened to be situated close enough to the ‘right’ kind of supernova.

Astronomer Dr Jane Greaves, from the University of Cardiff, said: ‘The route to carrying phosphorus into new-born planets looks rather precarious.

‘We already think that only a few phosphorus-bearing minerals that came to the Earth, probably in meteorites, were reactive enough to get involved in making proto-biomolecules.

‘If phosphorus is sourced from supernovae, and then travels across space in meteoritic rocks, I’m wondering if a young planet could find itself lacking in reactive phosphorus because of where it was born?

‘That is, it started off near the wrong kind of supernova? ‘

In that case, life might really struggle to get started out of phosphorus-poor chemistry, on another world otherwise similar to our own.’

The evidence comes from observations of two supernova ‘remnants’, Cassiopeia A (Cas A) and the famous Crab Nebula.

The team used the UK’s William Herschel Telescope on La Palma, Canary Islands, to look for signatures of phosphorus and iron from the Crab Nebula, the aftermath of a supernova explosion 6,500 light years away in the constellation of Taurus.

A previous study had searched for phosphorus from Cas A, 11,000 light years away.

for 35 years Comparing results from the two observations showed much less phosphorus from the Crab Nebula than Cas A, which came as a surprise.

Dr Phil Cigan, another of the Cardiff astronomers, said: ‘The two explosions seem to differ from each other, perhaps because Cas A results from the explosion of a rare super-massive star.’

The findings were presented at the European Week of Astronomy and Space Science meeting in Liverpool.

The scientists now plan to continue their search to see if other supernova remnants also lack phosphorus.

Video of yet another claimed UFO sighting over North Carolina has hit YouTube, this time in Columbus, a Polk County town 85 miles west of Charlotte.

The video, shot at night, features a hovering v-shaped object illuminated by six lights.

"Whatever it is, it seems to be dropping," says the unidentified man behind the camera. "I'd like to know what the heck those six lights are."

The YouTube channel The Hidden Underbelly referred to the object as as a "huge mother ship."

Another unidentified object has been spotted over North Carolina, this time 85 miles west of Charlotte in Polk County. Was it a military craft?

CELESTIAL FIREWORKS

A series of young stars glimmer in the distance like fireworks in the sky. This image was released in April 2015 to celebrate Hubble's 25th anniversary.

The Hubble Space Telescope has continuously unleashed a stream of jaw-dropping intergalactic imagery since it launched on April 24, 1990. Not only do these images, which look more like paintings at first glance, allow researchers to study distant worlds, galaxies and nebulae, they have captured the minds of the general public, getting us genuinely excited about space exploration. But here's some sad news: despite all of these wonderful things, Hubble is getting older.

In a few short years, Hubble's technology will become fully outdated and NASA will let it drift to a fiery death in the atmosphere, like some crazed band of space Vikings. Once gone, at least we know we'll have the gold-encrusted James Webb Space Telescope to keep the images flowing in. With time marching on, let's not worry about what will happen to everyone's favorite space telescope and, instead, take a look at some of the most amazing pictures it's given us over the years.

A ROSE MADE OF GALAXIES

Released on Hubble's 21st anniversary, a pair of galaxies swirl together to form Arp 273. This unique object formed as two galaxies in the Andromeda constellation passed through one another.NASA, ESA and the Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA)

WHEN BLACK HOLES COLLIDE

Though there isn't an actual picture of a supermassive black hole (yet), this image possibly captures two of them swirling together and shooting off jets of particles into the universe. Each of these jets, which travel at nearly the speed of light, stretch for thousands of light-years as two galactic nuclei blend together.

THE PILLARS OF CREATION

Taken in 1995, the 'Pillars of Creation' is one of Hubble's most notable images. Inside, you see three cold columns of gas illuminated by stars in the Eagle Nebula. This re-released version of the original adds more detail by including near-infrared light, which helps expose the various stars behind the pillars. Few other space images have received as much fame and adoration as this one.

A CHURNING VIEW OF SAGITTARIUS

The Lagoon Nebula churns with a series of crazy, huge storms. "The region is filled with intense winds from hot stars, churning funnels of gas, and energetic star formation, all embedded within an intricate haze of gas and pitch-dark dust," NASA notes. This colorful image was released in August 2015.

A SUPERNOVA IMPOSTOR

Meet the Eta Carinae system. It has two stars in it and one of them is huge and unstable. Since the 1800s, astronomers with less powerful telescopes have been watching the system's outbursts. However, it wasn't until Hubble came that researchers were able to fully check out the clouds of matter, dubbed the Homunculus Nebula, thrown off by it. This image in particular, which was released in 2012, is one of the most detailed. Researchers refer to these sort of outbursts as 'impostor supernovae' because they appear like normal supernovae but they do not kill off the star.

THE BUBBLE GALAXY

Known scientifically as NGC 3521, this flocculent spiral galaxy appears woolly because of how stars shine through its dusty clouds. Though it seems incredibly close in this image, it actually lies about 40 million light-years away in the constellation of Leo, and it was discovered back in 1784 by William Herschel. Hubble released this incredibly detailed picture back in 2015, though if you were to look at it with an ordinary backyard telescope it would appear like a giant bubble.

DI CHA SHINES THROUGH A SMOKE RING

The star system DI Cha was imaged by Hubble in October 2015. The unique bright spot in its center consists of two stars shining through rings of dust, which actually hide two other stars in this quadruple star system. Besides having two pairs of binary stars, the system is notable because it has a large region known as the Chamaeleon Complex, an area that gives birth to brand new stars.

FINGERPRINTING THE STARS

Front and center in this March 2016 Hubble image is a star named IRAS 12196-6300, which lies 2,300 light-years from Earth. Researchers call this type of image a fingerprint because the light spreads out enough for them to understand what chemicals make up the star.

CELESTIAL FIREWORKS

There is just so much going on in this image that it's hard to pin down just one thing to discuss. Inside, we see a ton of young stars inside a nebula. "The nebula reveals a fantasy landscape of pillars, ridges and valleys," says a NASA statement. "The pillars, composed of dense gas and thought to be incubators for new stars, are a few light-years tall and point to the central star cluster. Other dense regions surround the pillars, including reddish-brown filaments of gas and dust."

PISMIS 24, A FANTASTICAL TRIPLE STAR SYSTEM

While this may look the cover a direct-to-VHS fantasy film from the late-80s, this Hubble image showcases the open cluster known as Pismis 24, the three stars directly above the nebula. In fact, the biggest star of the three, Pismis 24-1, is one of the largest stars ever recorded at 100 solar masses.

A GALAXY FULL OF DARK MATTER

Reminiscent of the default Mac background, this image shows off the galaxy UGC 447, which lies 110 million light-years away in the constellation of Pisces. Researchers believe galaxies like UGC 447 are composed mainly of dark matter, making them prime targets for future study because, though researchers see evidence of it everywhere, dark matter is super elusive. This is one of the relatively recent images captured by Hubble in April 2016.

THE MONKEY HEAD NEBULA BIRTHS STARS

To celebrate Hubble's 24th anniversary (they always put out great images for anniversaries), researchers released this image of the Monkey Head Nebula, which is basically a star factory. This region specifically lies about 6,400 light-years from Earth.

New AI Program Classifies Planets and Predicts Probability of Life

"We're currently interested in these ANNs for prioritizing exploration for a hypothetical, intelligent, interstellar spacecraft scanning an exoplanet system at range," Christopher Bishop, a researcher from the Centre for Robotics and Neural Systems at Plymouth University, said in the statement. 

ANNs are computer systems that essentially mimic the human brain's learning process. They have proven to be particularly useful for sorting through and identifying patterns in vast amounts of data that would otherwise be too complex and time-consuming for scientists to process, researchers said in the statement. 

In this case, the ANNs are fed atmospheric observations, also known as spectra, from present-day Earth, Mars, Venus, Titan and predictions for early Earth — all of which are rocky bodies that have characteristics that suggest the right conditions to support life, according to the statement. 

However, since life has yet to be discovered outside of Earth, the ANNs classify planets using a "probability of life" measurement that is based on the atmospheric and orbital properties of the five target bodies in our solar system, the researchers said. 

Based on these spectral profiles, the ANNs can predict the habitability of numerous planets, and, as a result, save researchers time by allowing them to focus only on the most promising targets. This technique has been successful for categorizing new planets, according to the statement. 

"Given the results so far, this method may prove to be extremely useful for categorizing different types of exoplanets using results from ground-based and near-Earth observatories," Angelo Cangelosi, a supervisor of the project, who is also from the Centre for Robotics and Neural Systems at Plymouth University, said in the statement. 

The researchers hope to apply this technique to data collected during upcoming missions such as NASA's James Webb Space Telescope and the European Space Agency's ARIEL (Atmospheric Remote-sensing Exoplanet Large-survey) space mission. 

Their findings were presented today (April 4) at the European Week of Astronomy and Space Science conference in Liverpool, England.

Alien Implants: The New "Hard Evidence"

Science fiction author Whitley Strieber continues to promote the notion of extraterrestrial visitations. His _Communion: A True Story_ (1987) told of his own close encounter -- actually what psychologist Robert A. Baker has diagnosed as "a classic, textbook description of a hypnopompic hallucination" (or "waking dream"). Now, several money-making books later, Strieber offers _Confirmation: The Hard Evidence of Aliens Among Us_. In addition to UFO sightings and close encounters, there is the hard evidence, quite literally -- alien implants!

Implants are the latest rage in UFO circles, and Strieber marshals the diagnostic, radiographic, surgical, photographic, and analytic evidence that supposedly indicates -- but admittedly does not prove -- extraterrestrials are implanting devices in human beings.

The concept of implants is an outgrowth of the modern UFO craze which began in 1947. In the 1960s came reports of alien abductions, events now understood to consist largely of waking dreams, hypnosis-induced fantasies, and hoaxes. Implants seem to have begun with the alleged 1967 abduction of a Massachusetts woman, Betty Andreasson, who described a tiny spiked ball that had supposedly been inserted up her nose.

Soon such devices began to proliferate, one of which survived and was thoroughly investigated by the Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) in the late 1980s. Possessed by a self-claimed abductee, the object had supposedly been implanted by his extraterrestrial abductors, but was later dislodged when he caught a cold and blew his nose. It proved to be a common ball bearing!

Since 1994 alleged implants have been surgically recovered but they've become remarkably diverse: one looks like a shard of glass, another a triangular piece of metal, still another a carbon fiber, and so on. None was located in the brain or nasal cavity, instead being recovered from such extremities as toe, hand, shin, external ear, etc.; some were accompanied by scars while others were not.

As physicians know, a foreign object can enter the body unnoticed, as during a fall, or while running barefoot in sand or grass -- even as a splinter from a larger impacting object. Such foreign objects may become surrounded by a membrane, like several of the recovered "implants."

In _Confirmation_ Whitley Strieber describes several of the implants including one removed from his own external ear by a physician. It turned out to be collagen, the substance from which cartilage is formed. Strieber admits that the promised "hard evidence" provided by implants is not so hard after all: "I hope this book will not cause a rush to judgement," he writes, "with skeptics trying to prove that evidence so far retrieved is worthless while UFO believers conclude that it is proof. Both approaches are a waste of time, because the conclusive evidence has not yet been gathered."

Of course, it is not skeptics but implant advocates who have the burden of proof -- a burden they have emphatically failed to meet. Indeed, the implant concept -- like the larger alien abduction phenomenon itself -- lacks proof that it has an objective reality. Instead, the evidence indicates it is simply part of an evolving UFO mythology. Its theme of entities exerting influence over humans is one seen in many variants, ranging from ancient mythical lore to modern science fiction and persisting in some form in popular culture. There have always been individuals -- fantasizers as well as paranoid schizophrenics -- who have heard voices that directed or controlled them, voices that are expressions of hopes and fears. Therefore it seems safe to predict that, as the millennium draws near, there will be further claims of "hard evidence" of extraterrestrial visitation. We may also expect that misperceptions and exaggerations of natural phenomena, as well as hoaxes, will abound.

SCIENTISTS HAVE FOUND ON VENUS, EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE

The European Space Agency said on April 3, 2018, that its CryoSat satellite mission has revealed a shifting inward of the grounding lines of ice sheets in Antarctica. Over the last seven years, according to ESA, Antarctica has lost an area of underwater ice nearly the size of Greater London (about 90 miles, or 140 km across, according to Britannica.com). ESA said the grounding lines – the place where the base of Antarctic ice sheets leave the seabed and begin to float – is shifting inward.

ESA said:

… warm ocean water beneath the continent’s floating margins is eating away at the ice attached to the seabed.

ESA said that between 2010 and 2017, the Southern Ocean melted about 565 square miles (1463 sq km) of underwater ice. A paper describing these results is published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Geoscience. The paper describes how CryoSat was used to map grounding-line motion along nearly 10,000 miles (16,000 km) of Antarctic coastline, over seven years.

Prof. Gallup en zijn voormalige student Michael Frederick menen dat de dinosauriërs al in de problemen zaten en aan het uitsterven waren voor een meteoriet ze helemaal van de kaart veegde. Ze leggen dat uit in een nieuwe studie, die gepubliceerd werd in het vakblad Ideas in Ecology and Evolution. Volgens hen lag een fysiologisch probleem aan de basis van de uitsterving: ze hadden een slecht ontwikkeld smaakvermogen.

Het gaat hier meer bepaald om ‘aangeleerde smaakafkeer’, een evolutionair verdedigingsmechanisme dat je vandaag de dag bij de meeste diersoorten ziet. Dat wil zeggen dat dieren kunnen leren welke voeding voor problemen zorgt, zoals buikpijn, en die in de toekomst gaan vermijden. “Dat is waarom we er nooit in geslaagd zijn om ratten volledig uit te roeien, omdat ze geleerd hebben om om te gaan met toxische voeding. Komen ze iets tegen dat ze nog nooit geproefd hebben, dan proberen ze slechts een klein stukje. Bevalt het hen niet, dan zullen ze het voortaan vermijden, omdat ze de geur en smaak linken aan de negatieve gevolgen.”

Giftige planten

Dino’s hebben dat mechanisme echter nooit ontwikkeld. Aan het einde van hun tijdperk - de overgang van het Krijt naar het Tertiair - ontstonden de eerste bloeiende planten. Die angiospermae waren vaak giftig, maar de dieren bleven ze toch eten, omdat ze de problemen die ze ondervonden niet konden linken aan de planten in kwestie. Heel wat dinosaurussen bezweken aan de gevolgen van de toxiciteit, en hun aantallen begonnen achteruit te gaan. 

Gallup kwam tot die conclusie na onderzoek bij krokodillen, die rechtstreeks afstammen van de dino’s. Ook zij bleken geen onderscheid te kunnen maken tussen gezond en giftig voedsel. “Hoewel de meteoriet zeker zijn rol heeft gespeeld, stond de soort daarvoor al zwaar onder druk. Hun brein was niet genoeg ontwikkeld om te beseffen wat ze wel en niet mochten eten. De huidige theorie impliceert dat de dinosauriërs plotseling verdwenen zijn, maar de bewijzen zeggen iets anders: ze waren al lang voor de meteorietinslag aan het uitsterven.

If you had “God particle” in the “What will cause the end of the universe?” pool, you stand a good chance of winning … but a poor chance of collecting your winnings. According to new research, scientists believe the universe will end when a tiny bubble begins expanding at the speed of light and devours everything it meets. Even scarier, the bubble will form inside the Higgs field. If that name sounds familiar, it’s the field of energy that creates the Higgs boson particle – better known as the “God particle” – which was discovered at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider in 2012. If the mass of Higgs boson is altered, it could become the particle in the Higgs field that creates the bubble that eats the universe.

Have you guessed the bad news yet?

“At some point you will create one of these bubbles. It will be very unpleasant.”

Harvard physicist Anders Andreassen is the lead author of the study, published recently in the journal Physical Review D, who links the bubble to Higgs boson. The particle’s mass is currently 125 gigaelectronvolts, but it could change. When it does, the end result is that ever-expanding, universe-killing bubble-to-end-all-bubbles. It’s a good thing that hasn’t happened yet, right? Right?

“It’s possible that a bubble has already formed and is hurtling toward us at the speed of light right now.”

Live Science reports that Andreassen gave that depressing observation in an interview. Hopefully, we’ll at least be able to see it coming and make preparations for our demise, right? Right?

“It is sobering to envision this bubble, with its wall of negative energy, barreling towards us at the speed of light. We will never see it coming.”

Is there any good news or should we storm CERN and shut it down?

Fortunately, Andreassen and company have been able to at least figure out approximately when the end of the universe will happen — between 10 quinquadragintillion years (one with 139 zeros after it) and 10 octodecillion years (one with 58 zeros after it).

“That is a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very long time. Our sun will burn up and many things will happen in our solar system before this is very likely to happen.”

Well, that a little good news, right? Right?

Yes, unless you’re one of those physicists who believes the universe will end in a battle between matter and dark matter, which could happen at any time.

Every now and again, when I’m either lecturing on the Men in Black phenomenon, or being interviewed on radio on the subject, the matter of Jello surfaces. Yeah, really. It’s a fact that the MIB and Jello have a connection, as strange as it certainly sounds. Google “Men in Black + Jello” and you’ll see what I mean. You will find numerous references online to a certain case from the 1960s – involving a Man in Black and Jello. But, not everyone knows the full story. So, today, I thought I would rectify that.

John Keel, the author of the acclaimed 1975 book, The Mothman Prophecies, was someone who had a deep interest in the Men in Black enigma and who even found himself in their clutches from time to time. Of the many cases that Keel personally investigated, one of the strangest has persisted – probably because of its sheer weirdness. It’s a story which had its origins in late 1966. And, it’s a story which Keel shared in his 1970 book, UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse. Keel also made mention of the case on many occasions in his lectures, too. But, on with the story.

The location was a field in a rural part of the 19^th century city of Owatonna, Minnesota. It was late one night in ’66 when a Mrs. Butler and a friend were staring at a patch of the night sky, watching a curious display of unidentified bright lights dance around. Without warning, one of the lights dropped from the heavens at high speed. Just before it hit the ground, the UFO came to a sudden halt, bobbing just a few feet above the field, not unlike a small boat on ocean waters. In disturbing fashion, Mrs. Butler fell to the ground and briefly appeared to be under some kind of supernatural possession. Suddenly, the light shot away, vanishing into the night sky, and Mrs. Butler recovered. Ominously, and for the next few days, whenever the two friends tried to share the details of their encounter they were hit by pummeling migraines and debilitating weakness. But, there was something else, too.

During the course of the interview between Mrs. Butler and John Keel, something very intriguing surfaced. Quite out of the blue, she asked Keel if he knew anything about mysterious men visiting UFO witnesses; men who looked like military personnel, but who may not have been. Keel, who was hardly a stranger to the MIB phenomenon, played matters down a  bit and said that, yes, he had heard a few such stories. Actually, Keel had dozens of such cases on record, but he didn’t want to risk influencing Mrs. Butler. Instead, Keel sat back and listened as she told her story.

Mrs. Butler told Keel that some six months after the UFO sighting, a “Major Richard French” turned up on her doorstep, identifying himself as a representative of the military and asking questions about flying saucers. Just like all of the Men in Black, there was something just not right about Major French: his skin was an odd shade of olive. His face was extremely pointed, and particularly so his chin. He spoke English, but his accent was as blank as it could be. And he was dressed in a suit and a black tie, rather than in a military outfit.

Very oddly, Major French – quite out of the blue – said that his stomach was causing him some trouble. Mrs. Butler offered him some Jello, which he quickly declined. He soon left. The next day, though, the major was back. Yet again, he complained about his stomach.  Mrs. Butler again offered him a bowl of Jello, hoping that it might help. Here is where surreal became beyond surreal. For a moment or two, Major French stared at the Jello, seemingly completely unaware of what it was. He then stared at the spoon Mrs. Butler had given him, as if he had no comprehension of what it was. He then awkwardly picked up the bowl and proceeded to try and drink the Jello. Mrs. Butler went silent and stared in disbelief. Major French did not hang around, realizing, it seems, that Mrs. Butler knew something was not quite normal – which is an understatement of absolutely epic proportions. He quickly left, never again bothering Mrs. Butler.

So, now you know.

Large ROGUE object moving under the Sun

Over the years there is much written about a celestial body hidden out of sight that has not been discovered yet, although evidence is building, astronomers say as well as NASA has admitted that that there is a mysterious world called Planet Nine.

The theory is that a mysterious celestial body is lurking on the edge of our solar system with a huge orbit of the sun and although there are many videos showing an unknown huge celestial body often called as a second sun, Nibiru or PlanetX maybe the best example of a possible planetary body near the sun has been caught on the following video.

Here is a black mostly cloaked UFO following a passenger plane and was noticed by a person looking out his window. The UFO is seen rising up out of the lower clouds and then turns and begins to follow the direction of the plane, but keeping its distance. 

This is the same type of alien craft that I reported back in 2015, also seen by a passenger from a jet. I will place the video which is mine from the eyewitness at the bottom of this post to compare and contrast. Click here to see that old 2015 post. 

The dark UFO hides in the clouds and when a passing jet interests it, it comes out to take a closer look. The UFO is scanning the plane, gathering information and even recording the thoughts of the passengers. Yes, most aliens can hear your thoughts when close.

Now the USAF is reporting that an F-16 crashed while doing training at Nellis AFB, however I think its all a cover up. You see, Nellis AFB is famous for having an alien base of Tall Whites located behind the old firing range. 

I believe that a Tall White ship saw the moves of a F-16 as threatening and shot it down. For instance the F-16 could have locked its laser tracking missile system on the UFO...that could be seen as threatening. Tall Whites are said to be hyper aggressive. 

Tall Whites see themselves as superior to humans and have killed USAF soldiers before for such things as pushing a child Tall White away from your gun, touching a child Tall White at all, or defying any demand they make. Yeah, not the superior species many hoped for, but the US military seems to think there is a great benefit in having them there, probably for military trade.

Science fiction has had a profound impact on our cultural consciousness when it comes to how we imagine what advanced alien races might be like. In some ways, sci-fi has shaped the contemporary imagination, leading to a great deal of misinterpretation of phenomena we observe in space. We just really want there to be massive motherships zooming through the universe, living out real-life space operas that would put Battlestar Galactica or the Bloodbath of B-R5RB to shame. At least, I really want that to be real. Whether it is or not, astronomers have recently observed what can only be described as a series of extremely bright explosions in space, and there is so far no good explanation. Have we witnessed an intergalactic battle in deep space?

It’d be a lot cooler if we did. Unfortunately, this was likely just another natural phenomenon. We’re utterly alone out here.

The events were detected by the Dark Energy Survey Supernova Programme (DES-SN), a collaborative program carried out at 25 different astronomical institutions which is aimed at tracking down and identifying supernovae and dark matter in the vast black reaches of space. According to their estimates, these explosions – or whatever they were – occurred in a corner of the universe around 4 billion light years away. These mysterious events were extremely hot, with temperatures ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 degrees Celsius (our Sun’s surface temperature, by comparison, is around 5,000 Celsius on average). These explosions were also enormous, ranging in size from several times the distance from Earth to Sun to up to a hundred. Whatever these events were, they were terrifying to behold.

Astronomers with The Royal Society still aren’t sure what exactly could have caused these bright explosions. Typically, supernovae last several months, but these events displayed maximum brightness for only a week or so. One theory posits that a powerful supernovae could have incinerated a cloud of material ejected from a dying star, although much more data is needed before any conclusions can be drawn. Although I have to wonder: would we be able to identify something truly anomalous or unique if we witnessed it? Or what scientists reach for the most likely explanation based on our current knowledge, publish the paper, and move on?

It’s hard to say. Miika Pursiainen of the University of Southampton has been analyzing the data but has so far been left with more questions than answers. “If nothing else,” she says, our work confirms that astrophysics and cosmology are still sciences with a lot of unanswered questions!” When it comes to the mysteries of space, aren’t those the best kind? With the Earth feeling much smaller than it ever did, we need something grand to explore.

The aptly named Shroud of Turin has been shrouded in mystery since its appearance in the mid-14th century. Stored in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, Italy, it is considered by many to bear the image of Jesus of Nazareth, miraculously transferred to the cloth when it allegedly wrapped the body after burial. Others who believe the carbon dating which indicates the cloth was made in the mid-14th century refer to the mysterious image as the Man in the Shroud. Whoever it is, we now had a 3D sculpture of the image, courtesy of Giulio Fanti, a teacher of mechanical and thermal measurements at the University of Padua in Padua, Italy, and a student of the Shroud.

“This statue is the three-dimensional representation in actual size of the Man of the Shroud, created following the precise measurements taken from the cloth in which the body of Christ was wrapped after the crucifixion. Therefore, we believe that we finally have the precise image of what Jesus looked like on this earth. From now on, He may no longer be depicted without taking this work into account.”

From that quote in the Italian weekly magazine Chi and reported by Turin’s La Stampa news source, there seems to be no doubt in Fanti’s mind whose image is on the shroud … and now on a three-dimensional statue (picture here). While is well-protected in Turin from both the curious and the elements (the last public viewing was arranged by Pope Francis in 2013), Giulio Fanti has had access to the Shroud and numerous photographs and tests of it in his quest to prove its validity and disprove the carbon-dating tests. He’s the head of the Shroud Science Group, about 140 scientists dedicated to study of it, and has authored 8 books and more than 50 scientific works on the Shroud.

As a professor of mechanical engineering, Fanti was an ideal candidate to look at the two-dimensional measurements of the Man in the Shroud as a blueprint and translate them into three-dimensional directions which were then given to plaster master Sergio Rodella, who made the actual statue. In that respect, it’s no surprise that the ‘man in the statue’, like the Man in the Shroud, measures 5 feet, 11 inches in height, has a beard, long hair and Caucasian features, and looks like a man who died traumatically.

“On the Shroud, I counted 370 wounds from the flagellation, without taking into account the wounds on his sides, which the Shroud doesn’t show because it only enveloped the back and front of the body. We can therefore hypothesize a total of at least 600 blows. In addition, the three-dimensional reconstruction has made it possible to discover that at the moment of his death, the man of the Shroud sagged down towards the right, because his right shoulder was dislocated so seriously as to injure the nerves.”

The wounds may match a crucifixion, but the size and features don’t match what other historians believe Jesus of Nazareth looked like. In her new book, “What Did Jesus Look Like?“, Joan Taylor, professor of Christian Origins and Second Temple Judaism at King’s College London, used archaeology, images on coins and in paintings, and texts from the time period to determine what Jews in Judea and Egypt at the time of Jesus looked like. From that, Taylor thinks Jesus was about 5 feet 5 inches (1.7 meters) tall with brown eyes, black hair and olive-brown skin … but no long hair, beard or European nose and features. (Depictions here)

Scientifically speaking, Fanti has created an accurate 3-D statue of the Man in the Shroud, and Taylor has depicted an accurate image of what a Jewish man living in Nazareth at the time of Jesus would look like. Do either conclusively prove or disprove the identity of the Man in the Shroud? No. Does the Catholic Church or any other religious body require belief that the Man in the Shroud is Jesus of Nazareth? No.

Will the arguments continue? Definitely yes.

Raelians believe that an extraterrestrial civilization created all life on Earth including human beings, and they believe it is a very peaceful and far more advanced civilization compared to ours, both scientifically and philosophically.

NASA’s Search for Aliens Is Much Different Than SETI’s

It's pretty clever.

It’s pretty hard to have a level-headed conversation about aliens, except if you’re super skeptical, which you should probably be. But if you really want to understand astrobiology, or the science of life outside of earth, it’s crucial to understand how to talk about extraterrestrial life without sounding like the guyfrom Ancient Aliens. (Sorry, Giorgio Tsoukalos.)

On the series premiere of I Need My Space, Inverse’s first-ever podcast, SETI senior astronomer Seth Shostak tells hosts Rae Paoletta and Steve Ward that he and NASA are looking for different types of ET. For us Earthlings, it pays to know the difference.

“The [former] chief scientist for NASA [Ellen Stofan] said about two years ago … that within two decades we’d have god proof of ‘biology elsewhere,’ biology beyond Earth,” Shostak says. “Mind you, what NASA’s looking for is life that’s maybe not so clever. [Stofan] was likely talking about life on one of the moons of Jupiter or Saturn, maybe on Mars.”

Shostak’s driving at the difference between a hypothetical alien microbe and something more sophisticated. About a decade ago, Shostak bet a crowd of attendees at a talk in Germany we’d find a signal from intelligent life within two dozen years. If he was wrong, Shostak said he’d buy them all a cup of coffee.

Clearly, we haven’t found evidence of extraterrestrial life, intelligent or otherwise. But scientists have some ideas about where alien microbes could be hiding. Enceladus, one of the moons of Saturn, is a prime suspect since it appears to contain all the necessary ingredients for life. Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons, is similarly a favorite among astrobiologists, since it contains a large subterranean ocean like Enceladus’s. Where there’s (probably) water, there’s (maybe) life.

Finding intelligent life is clearly more complicated, and this is where SETI comes in: the institute listens for radio and/or light signals that could be sent from distant, civilized aliens. No luck so far, but Shostak says he stands by his bet and doesn’t plan on buying that coffee any time soon.

“It hasn’t been two dozen years, and I’m not willing to give them the coffee before that because I really can’t afford it,” he says. “But I am buying some Starbucks stock to hedge against it.”

Strange lights fill the sky along I-75, perplexing drivers. But it was actually drones

HOLLY TOWNSHIP (WJRT) (04/03/18) - Strange lights filled the sky along I-75, capturing the attention of dozens of people Sunday night.

Several of them pulled over near the Grange Hall Road interchange around 9:30 p.m. to capture video of them.

The array of lights moving in waves through the evening sky were hard to explain. Some even wondered whether Mid-Michigan was being paid a visit from parts unknown.

"At first I started doing a video, then I thought, no way, I need to do a Facebook Live because nobody's going to believe me," said Kaylin Adams, who recorded the strange lights.

She couldn't quite believe what she was seeing herself.

"I saw at first they were blue lights and they were just kind of in line, because they were just kind of waving. That's what caught my eye first," Adams said.

Then the lights started moving in strange ways, like nothing they had ever seen before.

"It changed formations and started changing colors. At one point they all got in line and changed to red, white and blue and then got in a jumbled formation," Adams said.

She didn't know what to think of the sight unfolding in front of her eyes.

"Everyone was saying it was aliens and UFOs. I had no idea, at first. I was just so mind blown," Adams said.

For 24 hours she wondered. Her videos posted to Facebook got hundreds of thousands of views.

Monday evening, she and everyone else mesmerized by the lights got their answer. A local drone company was testing their show over a field on Grange Hall Road used by remote controlled aircraft.

Adams said the reaction to her short video is even more surprising than the light show itself.

"It's been crazy. The one video that I posted has 250,000 views on it," she said Tuesday afternoon. "I'm just so shocked to the reaction to it."

Back in 2005 when I told my husband I was going to write a column on unidentified flying objects, he told me not to do it because it would open a real can of worms. He was so smart. Today when I pulled my UFO file out of the cabinet, it is at least an inch thick.

But here goes again. This morning, I read an article by Dana Branham in The Dallas Morning News about a Dallas lawyer looking for a gravestone for a Martian named Ned that had been stolen from a cemetery in Aurora, Texas. It rang a bell.

Sure enough, about half the articles in my file contain information, not about a gravestone, but about a sighting in January 1878 in the Denison Daily News. That’s pretty close to the April 1897 date that Ned, the Martian is supposed to have crashed his spaceship in Aurora, northwest of Dallas.

An early day article in The Denison Herald questioned whether the 1878 sighting could have been the first printed report of a UFO sighting that took place, quoting John Martin, a farmer living some six miles north of Dallas, who said on a Tuesday morning, while he was out hunting, his attention was directed to a dark object high up in the northern sky.

He said the peculiar shape and the velocity with which the object seemed to approach riveted his attention and he trained his eyes to discover its character. He said it was about the size of an orange and continued to grow in size. After watching it for some time he said he became blind from long-looking and left off viewing it for a time to rest his eyes. When he resumed looking, the object was almost overhead, he said, and had increased considerably in size as it went through space at what he called “a wonderful speed.”

When it was directly over him, it was about the size of a large saucer or as he could judge at such a distance, a balloon that seemed to him to be the most reasonable solution of the strange phenomenon. It left as quickly as it had appeared and he soon lost sight in the southern sky Martin said.

This “saucer” hadn’t yet been associated with UFOs and wouldn’t become a part of the UFO craze for almost 75 years. But unexplained objects high up in the sky have been around a lot longer that that, at least in the North Texas sky.

Bonham in Fannin County had a sighting even before the 1878 one in Denison. According to an Internet timetable of the “unexplained.” In 1873, it is said that a huge cigar-shaped object swooped low over Bonham on two occasions in broad daylight then disappeared quickly to the east.

A Bonham farmer in June of that year said he looked up from his work and was astonished by what looked like an enormous flying snake, banded with brilliant yellow swipes, writhing and twisting in the sky above him.

Another Internet article titled “Serpents in the Sky,” went into greater detail about the “sighting.” It related that in broad daylight a fast moving object appeared in the sky southwest of Bonham. The people there first stared at it, not believing their eyes. It is believed that they may have seen drifting balloons before, but this was so large and traveling so fast that it was almost a blur, according to the article.

The story goes that farmers were so scared that they dived under their wagons and towns people ran inside. Only a few of the braver were said to have stood their ground and watched as the object circled Bonham twice then vanished. Some said the object was round and others said oval to cigar shaped. Twenty-four hours later, a device of the same description was sighted over Fort Scott, Kansas.

Another article from the internet headlined “The Aurora Crash” takes us back to the April 17, 1897, spaceship crash in Aurora that was seen approaching the city heading in a southwest direction. This was a long time before such a crash had taken place in Roswell, New Mexico.

In Aurora, the UFO was said to have crashed into a windmill early one morning and broke into many pieces, destroying the UFO and the only inhabitant that was inside. However, once an investigation was begun, it was said that the farm on which the craft crashed had no windmill.

When word got out of the crash and Aurora citizens went to see for themselves, they found what was described as a “small being not of this world” that was badly disfigured. They called the being a “Martian pilot” and buried the body in the local cemetery and even gave it a headstone. That is what Dallas attorney Stratton Horres wants to find and is offering a $1,000 reward for, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

It’s a little ironic, but the missing grave marker that accompanied the Dallas News article and a sketch given to the Denison Herald by Jim Shelton in 1981 are almost the same. Shelton’s sketch depicts a UFO that he saw in May that year that he described as “cigar-like shaped” with fire streaming in sparks from the rear and green and yellow pulsating lights. Ned’s grave marker, according to the photo, was a large irregular shaped boulder with the cigar shaped craft carved into it. It appears to have three windows where Shelton’s drawing is the same shape with six window openings in it. Someone has written on the Aurora marker, “Rest in peace, my alien brother.”

A free tour of the UFO crash site and Ned’s grave are on tap in Aurora for April 28 this year to mark the 121st anniversary of the reported crash.

There have been lots of other so-called “sightings” in the North Texas area, one even sighted on long-range radar at Perrin Air Force Base in 1953. A radar technician at Perrin said he was performing routine maintenance on a Plan Position Indicator when he saw a huge blip in the New York area. At the time, Perrin was a long-range early warning base.

Radio contact told Denver and Salt Lake bases of the sighting and they confirmed it. F-86 fighters from Perrin and others from Denver and Salt Lake were ordered to intercept and destroy. They were staggered at altitudes of 500 feet to try to get the sighting.

The last report that I found was written in 2005 and said the formation seemed to be heading toward Dallas. The radar technician said they watched as the fighters headed toward the objects that had crossed the border of Oklahoma into Texas. The object stopped, made a right turn and took off toward the northwest at a terrific speed.

He said there were eight officer radar operators and three radar techs in the tech’s hut during the episode and within 10 minutes of the last sighting, a group of about eight men in civilian suits and 14 uniformed armed guards came into the hut, separated the group and took them at gunpoint to a hangar on the back side of the field where they were interrogated for about four hours. During that time they had to draw diagrams of what they saw and write a narrative of everything that took place. He said the “fear of God” was put into them to NEVER talk about it to anyone. In fact, he said they had to sign a document that threatened them with a $10,000 fine and 10 years in prison for violating the Official Secrets Act.

The radar operator, who would be in his 90s or older now, has spoken in defiance of the document that he signed. He continued to say that the objects violated the laws of physics and he doubted that they were from this earth. It’s not known whether he is still living.

The Pyramids Of Giza As Seen From Space Photographed By the ESA

Who said you can’t see the Pyramids of Giza from space? A new image provided by ESA’s Proba-1 spacecraft has captured in stunning detail the Pyramids of the Giza plateau, proving that you can, in fact, see the magnificent structures from space.

The Great Pyramid of Giza and its accompanying structures located on the Giza plateau have remained an enigma for archaeologists and scholars for hundreds of years.

Shrouded in mystery, the Great Pyramid of Giza is without a doubt one of the most mind-boggling monuments ever erected on Earth, and its beauty is even visible from space.

The European Space Agency recently published a stunning image of the Giza plateau starring the Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure.

As the ESA’s Proba-1 Spacecraft passed over Egypt, its cameras caught a glimpse of the stunning ancient monuments. Proba-1 is a Belgian satellite that was outfitted with two cameras capable of capturing high-resolution images of the planet. The minisatellite, launched in 2001, is the ESA’s longest-serving Earth-observing mission, reports CNET.

The space agency decided to share the image of the bird’s-eye view of the Giza pyramid complex on Wednesday.

ESA’s photograph offers a perspective from north to south.

At the center of the image is we can see the smaller Pyramid of Menkaure, said to have been built to house the tomb of the fourth dynasty Egyptian pharaoh for which it is named.

If we take a look to the left of Menakure, we will spot the larger pyramid of Khafre standing tall at 488 feet.

Next to it, below and to the left of Khafre, we can spot the largest of the pyramids at the Giza plateau, the Great Pyramid of Giza, aka the Pyramid of Khufu.

It is believed that the Great Pyramid of Giza was built thousands of years ago by the ancient Egyptians which erected the stunning monument in around 20 years.

The structure is believed to have been completed in 2560 BC.

Thousands of years ago, the ancient builders of the Pyramid used more than 2,300,000 stone blocks that weigh from 2 to 50 tons each to build a structure that would stand the test of time.

The outer mantle of the Great Pyramid of Giza was composed of 144,000 casing stones, all of them highly polished and flat to an accuracy of 1/100th of an inch, about 100 inches thick and weighing approximately 15 tons each.

Astrophysicist: ETs May Have Already Lived And Died In Our Solar System

As science continues to search the cosmos for evidence of intelligent extraterrestrials and, at the very least, for habitable planets that might harbor even non-intelligent life, one scientist is raising another eye-opening question: Was there a time in the far distant past when an advanced civilization actually lived on one of the planets of our solar system, long before earthlings evolved?

Pennsylvania State University astrophysicist Jason T. Wright suggests that ancient aliens may have lived on nearby planets hundreds of millions of years ago, before vanishing without a trace.

In a new scientific paper, “Prior Indigenous Technological Species,” published in Cornell University’s research archive, ArXiv, on April 24, Wright speculates:

One of the primary open questions of astrobiology is whether there is extant or extinct life elsewhere in the solar system. Implicit in much of this work is that we are looking for microbial or, at best, unintelligent life, even though technological artifacts might be much easier to find.

But if a prior technological, perhaps spacefaring, species ever arose in the solar system, it might have produced artifacts or other technosignatures that have survived to present day.

Here, I discuss the origins and possible locations for technosignatures of such a prior indigenous technological species, which might have arisen on ancient Earth or another body, such as a pre-greenhouse Venus or a wet Mars.

HuffPost asked Wright how far back in time he thinks aliens might have lived in our solar system and if some of them may still be lingering out there.

“It seems pretty clear there aren’t any now. That’s become more clear as we’ve explored the solar system robotically. In terms of large, intelligent, technological civilizations, that seems pretty case closed,” he said in an interview Friday.

While Wright pays tribute to the imaginations that created tales of Martians and moon dwellers in his paper, he remained cautiously open-minded about what’s possible in time and space. “While the applications of this idea in science fiction are usually fanciful, it is unclear to what degree the existence of such species in reality is allowed or disallowed by evidence,” he wrote.

In the interview, he said he thinks it’s interesting to wonder if there could have been a previous species on Earth that used technology like we do and if there’s any room in the geological or fossil record for that, or have we completely foreclosed it?

“My guess is that we can rule out big swaths of the Earth’s history. The farther back you go, the harder it is to rule something like that out. If they’re very old, there may not be any traces. Things don’t last long. If you put something in orbit around the sun, it’ll be subject to collisions with asteroids and meteors.

“So, anything, including planetary surfaces in the solar system, just gets constantly hit with these things. When you’re on the surfaces of objects, like asteroids or moons or planets, those surfaces can also completely turn over, given enough time.”

NASA defines astrobiology as “the study of the origin, evolution, distribution and future of life in the universe. This multidisciplinary field encompasses the search for habitable environments in our solar system and habitable planets outside our solar system.”

Wright told HuffPost of two important ingredients in looking for signs of life somewhere in space.

“In the field of astrobiology, we talk about what are called biosignatures. If you look at a planet or a moon that has life on it, how would you know? What is the signature ― the signal ― that says this is life and not a completely sterile object? So, that’s a biosignature.

“A technosignature is the same idea but not for any life ― it’s for the technology that’s been engineered and constructed and designed by life. For instance, a radio transmitter would be one of our most obvious technosignatures. And we build large structures. The Empire State Building is a technosignature.”

NASA Scientist Finds Massive Alien Spacecraft Hiding In Saturn’s Rings

A Former NASA Engineer has made headlines around the globe after claiming that supermassive alien spacecraft exist in our solar system and are hiding within Saturn’s massive rings.

These claims were quickly spread by both American and Russian mainstream media outlets—which is kinda’ weird—suggesting that not only are there alien spacecraft around Saturn, but these mysterious objects exist around other planets like  Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune.

The former NASA engineer, Dr. Norman Bergrun—who happens to be a vivid UFO researcher—believes the alien spacecraft are actually ‘feeding off of the energy of the planet’ via the rings, in order to  “proliferate,” which he believes is a worrying situation.

And these spacecrafts aren’t new to the solar system says Dr. Bergrun. The former NASA boffin has been saying how alien spacecraft are proliferating in our solar system since 1986, when he published his book “Ringmakers of Saturn.”

As noted by the Inquisitr: “Bergrun is a distinguished former NASA research engineer who has made major innovative contributions to multiple U.S. aeronautic, missile and rocket programs. He has also won many top science and engineering awards, including the California Society of Professional Engineers Archimedes Engineering Achievement Award.”

But Bergrun’s statements have been heavily criticized since he appeared on the controversial YouTube Channel of SecureTeam10, noted for posting countless UFO related videos, which many skeptics have called out as being fake.

Dr. Bergrun has spoken not long ago in a video published by SecureTeam10’s YouTube channel where he explains the mystery behind Saturn’s, its rings, and the numerous alien spacecraft that he claims reside there.

In the video, Dr. Bergrun speaks of “long cylindrical objects” in the rings that appear to have “exhaust systems” among other apparently amazing findings, reports Sputnik News.

In his book Ringmakers of Saturn, published in 1986, Dr. Bergrun claimed that not only were Saturn’s ring ‘plagued’ by alien spacecraft, these otherworldly visitors may have been responsible for the ‘creation of the rings’.

In 2016, Dr. Bergrun said that these mysterious crafts inhabit Saturn, Uranus and Jupiter: “I say it is electromagnetic because I can identify streamline patterns with respect to it I knew were what we called ‘potential lines’ — and that says it was electrical. I could tell that those lines demarked the outside of an object,” he added.

UFO hunters and paranormal researchers believe in Dr. Bergrun’s story, saying that Bergrun most likely witnessed top-secret NASA images during his time working on the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) and Lockheed Martin on highly classified aerospace projects.

His conclusions, according to UFO researchers, are based on the evidence he gathered from the images.

Meanwhile, a team of scientists from the Plymouth University believes that we should take help of artificial intelligence to find the alien life. According to researchers, artificial intelligence has witnessed rapid developments and it can help us in predicting the probability of life on other planets.

For the study, scientists have harnessed the power of artificial intelligence and artificial neural networks (ANNs) to classify planets into five types, based on the likelihood of supporting extraterrestrial life. Lead study author Mr Christopher Bishop explains that planets in all the five groups have an atmosphere and possibility of life. Some planets are very similar to present day earth and are present in Goldilocks zone while some are more like Mars and Venus.

Mr Bishop comments, “We’re currently interested in these ANNs for prioritising exploration for a hypothetical, intelligent, interstellar spacecraft scanning an exoplanet system at range.”

He adds, “We’re also looking at the use of large area, deployable, planar Fresnel antennas to get data back to Earth from an interstellar probe at large distances. This would be needed if the technology is used in robotic spacecraft in the future.”

Mr Bishop further revealed that his team has trained the ANN by supplying data of hundreds of planets and different spectral profiles to determine the habitability of a planet.

“Given the results so far, this method may prove to be extremely useful for categorising different types of exoplanets using results from ground-based and near Earth observatories” says Dr Angelo Cangelosi, the supervisor of the project.

Scientists believe that the study will give specific targets for Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Telescope to examine a particular planet for the presence of alien life.

La vidéo suivante analyse une série de cinq photos prises dans une région éloignée d’Orlando, en Floride, par ma source anonyme, JP, le 16 mars 2018. Les photos montrent une embarcation dont JP estime qu’elle vole à une altitude de 2 000 à 5 000 pieds et de la taille de deux gros-porteurs.

La vidéo montre des gros plans de l’engin sur les photos et à quel point il est similaire à un modèle breveté en 2004 pour un engin spatial en forme de triangle.

La géométrie symétrique de l’engin dans les photos de JP, les bords lisses, la largeur apparente de l’engin, et une sorte de grand générateur hémisphère au centre, sont tous très similaires à la conception brevetée rendue public en 2004 pour un engin spatial Triangulaire comme le montre la comparaison côte à côte suivante.

Les cinq photos de la vidéo ci-dessous montrent une embarcation triangulaire volante près d’Orlando, en Floride, qui pouvait à la fois planer et voler rapidement dans n’importe quelle direction. L’embarcation pouvait changer de couleur, passant du blanc à mesure qu’elle émergeait des nuages, à des couleurs plus foncées comme l’illustrent les photos, ce qui suggère une caractéristique de furtivité.

Les photos m’ont été envoyées par JP, une source anonyme que je connais depuis 2008. Il a donné la taille approximative de l’embarcation comme à peu près la taille de deux gros porteurs. L’embarcation est identique à une observation du 16 mars par JP dans la région d’Orlando qui a de nouveau été capturée par des photos.

One could be forgiven for describing the mint's newest coin as rather otherworldly.

The Royal Canadian Mint's newest offering features Manitoba's most famous UFO encounter, which happened in 1967 when Stefan Michalak went looking for precious metals near Falcon Lake.

"I was very surprised, frankly. They called me out of the blue and said 'I have this idea,'" said Stefan's son, Stan Michalak. 

"It's not every day the mint calls and says, 'Hey, we're going to do a coin.'"

Stefan, whom his son says was a "rock nut," was searching for gold, silver and other precious metals and gems in Whiteshell Provincial Park one May long weekend in 1967. At about noon, two craft appeared in the sky, he said, and one landed about 50 metres away from Stefan on a flat rocky area.

The other craft left, but the first stayed, said Stefan. He observed it from the bush for about half an hour before approaching it.

"In his mind, he reasoned, 'This must be some sort of a military experimental craft. They've landed here by mistake or maybe out of need. Maybe they're in trouble,'" said Stan. "'I'll offer to help them out.'"

When Stefan approached the craft, which he later described as saucer-shaped and made of a stainless steel material, he touched it and the heat melted the fingertips of his heavy gloves. There was an opening he put his head through, said Stan, but he didn't enter.

The craft then expelled a cloud of gas and lifted off, knocking Stefan off his feet, setting his shirt aflame and leaving a distinct pattern of burns on his chest.

The coin shows the moment the craft lifted from the rock, with a figure lying on the ground with a hand in the air, as if to ward something off. In the dark, the craft on the coin glows, as does the gas coming from the ship.

The coin is ovoid and uses more colours than traditionally found in a coin, said Stan.

"They sent me a proof that had their original thought, which was kind of cute," said Stan. "Originally, it was going to have alien eyes on it, so it looked like the shape of an alien head."

Erica Maga, product manager for the coin, said the idea came to the team during their annual research.

"We thought it was such an interesting story that it was one that we had to share with Canadians," said Maga. "Everyone is sort of fascinated by this subject matter and we thought it would make a really interesting coin design."

The coin has been in production for a few months but went on sale Monday, said Maga. The coin's egg shape, while unusual, was also used for coins with a hot air balloon and featuring Ukranian pysanka.

Maga confirmed one of the earliest designs featured glow-in-the-dark alien eyes.

"We had talked around a lot of really wacky ideas and interesting concepts for this one, but in the end, we wanted to try and stay as faithful and true to the story as we could."

Despite the Manitoba connection, the coin is being minted in Ottawa instead of Winnipeg, said Alex Reeves, external communications advisor for The Mint. The Winnipeg facility does currency coins, while the Ottawa facility specializes in collector coins.

Stan, who co-wrote a book about his father's encounter, said he hopes the coin helps end his family's saga.

"We just decided to put this to rest, and I think the mint, giving me a call and saying 'We have this idea,' I think it just puts the ribbon on the box to finally close it forever."

The $20 legal tender coin can be ordered from the mint's website. It retails for $129.95.

We'd long suspected them, but in 2015 astronomers for the first time captured visual evidence of tubular plasma structures in the inner layers of the magnetosphere surrounding the Earth.

"For over 60 years, scientists believed these structures existed but by imaging them for the first time, we've provided visual evidence that they are really there," said Cleo Loi of the ARC Centre of Excellence for All-sky Astrophysics (CAASTRO) and the School of Physics at the University of Sydney back in 2015.

Loi was lead author on this research, done as part of her award-winning undergraduate thesis and published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

"The discovery of the structures is important because they cause unwanted signal distortions that could, as one example, affect our civilian and military satellite-based navigation systems. So we need to understand them," she said.

The plasma structures are explained in this clip:

The region of space around the Earth occupied by its magnetic field, called the magnetosphere, is filled with plasma created by the atmosphere being ionised by sunlight.

The innermost layer of the magnetosphere is the ionosphere, and above that is the plasmasphere. They are embedded with a variety of strangely shaped plasma structures, including the tubes.

"We measured their position to be about 600 km above the ground, in the upper ionosphere, and they appear to be continuing upwards into the plasmasphere. This is around where the neutral atmosphere ends, and we are transitioning to the plasma of outer space," Loi said.

Using the Murchison Widefield Array, a radio telescope in the Western Australian desert, Loi found that she could map large patches of the sky and exploit the the array's rapid snapshot capabilities to create a movie - effectively capturing the real-time movements of the plasma.

Loi was awarded the 2015 Bok Prize of the Astronomical Society of Australia for her work.

Apocalyptic Trumpet Sounds in the skies of Hawaii

Not the first time to be heard, this time the strange sounds have been recorded in the skies of Hawaii on April 3, 2018.

Scientific research points to natural causes such as tidal waves, methane explosions, underground earthquakes, or shifting sand dunes as explanations for these aural phenomena which of course is nonsense and misleading.

This UFO was found by The Watcher of Youtube today. The UFO shows that is a long glowing cylinder and that it left a trail behind it that seems to come from the sun. The UFO was traveling at such a high speed that it appears to be long, but is probably just round or disk like. NASA Awards Massive Supersonic Aircraft Contract to Lockheed Martin

Coming to a sky near you in 2022.

NASA announced Tuesday that it has awarded Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company a $247.5 million contract to build and test a supersonic aircraft that “reduces a sonic boom to a gentle thump.”

This is exciting news for anyone looking to fly cross-continentally in two hours — which, considering the increasingly limited leg room, is really a win for all of us. Work under the Low-Boom Flight Demonstration contract is reportedly underway as of Monday and will continue through Dec. 31, 2021. In a Tuesday press release, NASA added: “Under this contract, Lockheed Martin will complete the design and fabrication of an experimental aircraft, known as an X-plane, which will cruise at 55,000 feet at a speed of about 940 mph and create a sound about as loud as a car door closing, 75 Perceived Level decibel (PLdB), instead of a sonic boom.”

NASA  will conduct flight tests after the aircraft is accepted in 2021 to ensure safety standards and affirm the the low-boom supersonic technology is up to par.

“We look forward to applying the extensive work completed under QueSST to the design, build, and flight test of the X-plane, providing NASA with a demonstrator to make supersonic commercial travel possible for passengers around the globe,” Lockheed Martin program manager Peter Iosifidis said in a statement.

The X-plane is expected to take flight over U.S. cities in mid-2022, at which time it will collect data pertaining to community responses to the flights, which is great for those of us uninterested in ear-deafening booms being emitted from our skies. That data will then be shared with officials both in the United States and overseas for further consideration about regulations around supersonic air travel.

More updates on the Low-Boom Flight Demonstration and Lockheed Martin’s concept will no doubt continue to emerge in the coming months.

Ever since a New York Times report from late last year gave some credence to Tom DeLonge’s UFO research and To the Stars Academy, the world has been eying the former Blink-182 member’s activity a bit more closely. Well, slip on those reading glasses, because DeLonge’s got a new book on the way, Sekret Machines: Book 2: A Fire Within. It’s the sequel to 2016’s Sekret Machines: Book 1: Chasing Shadows, and, as the title implies, it’s the second book in a three-part series. Both were co-written with author and professor A.J. Hartley.

Though the books are fiction, DeLonge asserts that they’re informed by “facts and actual events gleaned from the authors’ sources within the scientific, military and intelligence communities surrounding unidentified aerial phenomena.” In multiple interviews, DeLonge has said that the books, as well as the sci-fi films on which he’s currently working in, serve as vessels to slowly introduce the truth regarding UFOs and the government’s method of exploring extraterrestrial life to the general public. That said, he’s also writing a companion non-fiction investigative series into the phenomena that kicked off with last year’s Sekret Machines: Gods.

“One of the largest areas of study when dealing with the UFO phenomenon is consciousness and the human mind,” DeLonge said in a press statement. “A.J. was able to weave that into the storyline with a tapestry of information never before released. He’s providing us with an opportunity to learn more about ourselves and the greatest story never told.”

“Book One focused primarily on the machines themselves–hardware, if you like–but in the second installment of the series we push the story into the gray areas between the normal and the paranormal in more clearly human terms, exploring the idea that as technology might make exponential evolutionary progress, so might people themselves,” added Hartley. “The result continues the story of the first novel, picking up pretty much where it left off, but shifts the tonality of the narrative into new territory, new adventures and new sekrets.”

Tucson -March 15, 2018, My husband was inside the house when I was outside in our back yard taking pictures of a star right below the object that appeared out of nowhere . It was strange because I didn’t see the object in the lens of my phone as I took the pic. I noticed it afterwards as I looked at my pictures. I never saw it in the sky. The first photo does not show the object and the third photo doesn’t show the object I added them to show you the before and after. I tried to blow up the photo in the last two pics. The time says 8:01 and 8:02. I must of started clicking seconds before it changed to 8:02 . The after pic is 8:05. I was viewing my pics in between that time. When I saw the object in my photos I hurried and started to click some more pics to see if the object would appear again and it didn’t . The object is not seen coming or going. I don’t think anything was on my lens because it would have shown on the other photos. I was facing the south direction of my house and my house is on the edge of the southeast part of Tucson. I do believe the same day the ISS passed over Arizona, only I am not sure what time and if I could even get a view of it at 8.00 pm, at night. On the map it shows that the ISS would have been far north of me or far west depending on where it was at the time. My husband and I have been noticing a very huge bright star or object, or planet in the sky (not sure  it changes colors and seems to have moved in a very slow speed going west to east. We have been keeping track of it for two weeks now. It has slowly changed its location. This was the same star that I was trying to photograph when this other unidentifiable object appeared. Eagle Rock —  I was walking my dog up Fair Park Avenue on March 24, 2018, on a nice afternoon and I had never seen this view of Eagle Rock so I decided to take a photo of the actual rock in the distance. As I framed up the photo I thought. You may not be able to recognize the rock in the distance. I take the photo, immediately select it and enlarge it to see if you can recognize the Eagle Rock in the background. As I enlarged it I see this spec and was startled. Seconds later I look up and there is nothing there. I never actually saw it, only in the picture. There was no noise. It was strange enough that I felt compelled to put it right into social media. I knew enough about cameras that if it was a spec on my lens that it wouldn’t look like this. It would be blurry and not hard edges, and pixilation when enlarged. I even did an experiment later that day. I put a rather large piece of black pepper in the center of my lens and took a pic of the sky. It was so blurry that the camera basically focuses around it. When I flip through my iPhone still photos there is a split second of video of the object covering a ton of ground in the tiny moment! Thanks to MUFON CMS

Florida Lights

Marco — I was outside throwing the football with my two young boys on March 17, 2018, and noticed two vessels in the sky traveling towards one another. I took a closer look and realized these objects were very far away but really large. They were traveling towards one another at a very close distance apart like they could crash. It look like an (Advil with lights on the side but white lights were yellow and orange.) Normally aircraft don’t fly directly towards each other. The larger was traveling north and the smaller was traveling south. They both basically disappeared. After posting on Facebook my fire chief told me that I should contact you. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Hawaii Lights

Kahului — I was driving on Hana Highway when I spotted an object up in the sky and could not figure out what it was so I took a picture of it on February 18, 2018. As you can see in photo it was a very clear morning with no clouds what so ever.

Time was about 8 am and I did not stop to watch it. I just took the picture thinking it would not come out or that I was just imagining what I was seeing.

 Louisiana Streak

Port Arthur — I was going back to my RV and I looked up at the stars on March 27, 2018, and saw something move. I saw it moving across the sky silently and I said well that must be a satellite and then it stopped. When it stopped a small white object came out and flew in the direction that the larger one had come from. I pointed my green laser at it and it stopped. It stayed still until I turned away. I’m not sure what it is on the video. When I stopped filming then it just ascended and went out of view slowly. I’m out here on the Gulf Coast working. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Minnesota Disc

Nimrod — This picture was taken on a 4th of July camping trip in 2011 on the Crow Wing River in Nimrod, Minnesota.

I was looking South down the river. I did not notice the object when I took the picture. I only discovered it when I was going through old photos this week. Thanks to MUFON CMS

 Nebraska Star

Moncton — His “star” seemed to really want to get my attention. The flashing lights were very noticeable against the night sky so I thought it would be interesting to try out my new camera. As I zoomed in, it was apparent that the star was changing shape as well as color. I didn’t observe any movement other than the rapid flashing of lights.
I was able to capture this on video but unfortunately I didn’t have a tripod which resulted in camera shake. From this video, I screen grabbed some stills and enlarged the images. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Texas Triangle

Dallas — Shortly after taking off on Spirit Airlines from Dallas around 6:30 am on March 18, 2018. I was taking photos of the sunrise. There was a little dot that I was attracted to but to me it seemed to be one of the city lights. I kept snapping photos to get the sunrise and the city lights. I took 12 photos total. When I got home and reviewed the photos I saw the last three had a glowing green triangle. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Everett – A sphere was observed flying above 500 feet altitude under cloud cover.

The sphere was captured on March 17, 2018, flying in a straight line path.

Canada Light

Scarborough — I have another fascinating UFO sighting to share on March 24, 2018. This report reveals a second UFO appearing and disappearing on film. 2. Did not notice when taking photos
3. I was sliding through photos when I noticed the motion. When you slide the photo you see its trajectory coming from the lower left of the photo.
4. The object looks like a cylinder and when you slide the photo it’s almost a blur coming up from the lower left of the photo.
5. I was surprised and happy I caught it. I didn’t see it when I took the photo. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Ecuador Light

Jipijapa — A good friend shared these pictures of reddish orange disc that had just flown away from very close to his terrace. He had seen it the day before, about 11pm when it came up close to his home. He saw bursts of light and saw this circular object emitting a red orange glow, coming straight toward him. He called his wife and daughter in law and all watched in awe, until he got scared and started screaming. Neighbors listening to the screaming came out and also witnessed the craft. He took photos with his Samsung phone of the craft that was 1000 yards to the right of the moon. In the third picture the object flew to the left side of the moon.

In my area Bahia de Caraquez, on the central coast of Ecuador, we have had many sightings. One he was able to see the underbelly of a craft while sitting on the beachfront at about 7pm.  One night his car suddenly stopped and all lights turned off. The lights on the disc started rotating around faster and faster and it flew off suddenly. Thanks to MUFON CMS

France Object

Santes — After discovering your existence while watching BTLV, my partner and I decided to share our observation made 10 years ago! On July 6, 2008. we went to our garden in the afternoon. My son (4 years old), my spouse and I looked at the strange “behavior” of a bird. Its wings seemed stuck to its body! He began to spin and maneuver without flapping his wings. I called my spouse and told him to look, but we were unable to determine what it was, It had an oval black shape that was not normal so I  only get two shots as it flew northwest! This phenomenon was very strange and significant! Thanks to MUFON CMS

Italy Disc

Rome – A video was taken of a disc shaped object flying near the Vatican during the last week.

There is some question how the video captured the disc shaped object from the angle higher than the craft.

I have no details on how or who made the video. Also the disc shape is very unusual.

Spain Light

Santa Ponsa — I was sitting on the top floor of our five story building watching the Pleiades at 12:11 AM, on March 27, 2018. Suddenly I noticed a blinking powerful white light hovering above me in slow motion. The object was 80º above the horizon flying south. Some flashes were with less power than others, but the white light was pure and very clean. The object seemed to be taking photographs of the area. It was 3000 – 3500 feet away (~900 – 1000m.) I took my phone and I’ve started recording this light on video. I’ve got a two minute video of this object. The object changes its direction from South to East moving at 5 – 8 km/h) and vanished. Sweden Lights

Årjäng — My friend and I were standing on the back porch of another friend’s house when we noticed six bright lights in the sky on March 24, 2018. They moved from the southwest to northeast before disappearing from view. We were both astonished by what we saw. They were moving at a steady pace and kept the same distance from each other. They seemed to move slightly faster than the average airplane. They shone with a very bright and intense orange light that was steady and did not flicker or dim. We saw them for four minutes and then they disappeared. I took some shots with my phone.

Turkey Object

Aegean Sea – I just flew from over Izmir and Khios, heading into Athens around 4.30pm on 21 March 2018. An object appears to be flying away at right angles from our commercial jet and somehow without either of us appearing to turn we end up almost following it. This is Kerry Forides; please share analyze, chop, enhance, stabilize, etc as I would love to know what I filmed and please refer to my Kerry Camerawork’s page as I am about educating in human nature sustainability and heritage food abundance by design. UK/England Light

Whitten — I was taking a moon picture and noticed a blue light on March 29, 2018. I went on to take the moon picture and can be seen on picture. Then walked little bit away and took another picture, which is more clear.

This happened few minutes ago, Uk/London time 1:00 am. I took the picture through my front door looking southeast.
