UFOs regularly spotted in restricted U.S. airspace

Bill Whitaker reports on the regular sightings of unidentified aerial phenomena, or UAP.

Earlier this summer, the director of national intelligence and secretary of defense released a highly-anticipated, unclassified report about something the Pentagon calls unidentified aerial phenomena—or UAP—more commonly known as UFOs. The government's grudging acknowledgment of 144 mysterious sightings documented by our military comes after decades of public denial. But as we first reported in May, whatever is trespassing in our skies and seas poses a serious safety risk to our servicemen and women, as well as our national security.

Bill Whitaker: So what you are telling me is that UFOs, unidentified flying objects, are real?

Lue Elizondo: Bill, I think we're beyond that already. The government has already stated for the record that they're real. I'm not telling you that. The United States government is telling you that. 

Luis Elizondo spent 20 years running military intelligence operations worldwide: in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Guantanamo. He hadn't given UFOs a second thought until 2008. That's when he was asked to join something at the Pentagon called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, or "AATIP."

Lue Elizondo: The mission of AATIP was quite simple. It was to collect and analyze information involving anomalous aerial vehicles, what I guess in the vernacular you call them UFOs. We call them UAPs. 

Bill Whitaker: You know how this sounds? It sounds nutty, wacky. 

Lue Elizondo: Look, Bill, I'm not, I'm not telling you that, that it doesn't sound wacky. What I'm telling you, it's real. The question is, what is it? What are its intentions? What are its capabilities? 

Buried away in the Pentagon, AATIP was part of a $22 million program sponsored by then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to investigate UFOs. When Elizondo took over in 2010 he focused on the national security implications of unidentified aerial phenomena documented by U.S. service members. 

Lue Elizondo: Imagine a technology that can do 6-to-700 g-forces, that can fly at 13,000 miles an hour, that can evade radar and that can fly through air and water and possibly space. And oh, by the way, has no obvious signs of propulsion, no wings, no control surfaces and yet still can defy the natural effects of Earth's gravity. That's precisely what we're seeing. 

Elizondo tells us AATIP was a loose-knit mix of scientists, electro-optical engineers, avionics and intelligence experts, often working part time.  They combed through data and records, and analyzed videos like this.

Recently released images may not convince ufo skeptics, but the pentagon admits it doesn't know what in the world this is or this or this. 

Bill Whitaker: So what do you say to the skeptics? It's refracted light. Weather balloons. A rocket being launched. Venus.

Lue Elizondo: In some cases there are simple explanations for what people are witnessing. But there are some that, that are not. We're not just simply jumping to a conclusion that's saying, "Oh, that's a UAP out there." We're going through our due diligence. Is it some sort of new type of cruise missile technology that China has developed? Is it some sort of high-altitude balloon that's conducting reconnaissance? Ultimately when you have exhausted all those what ifs and you're still left with the fact that this is in our airspace and it's real, that's when it becomes compelling, and that's when it becomes problematic. 

Former Navy pilot Lieutenant Ryan Graves calls whatever is out there a security risk. He told us his F/A-18F squadron began seeing UAPs hovering over restricted airspace southeast of Virginia Beach in 2014 when they updated their jet's radar, making it possible to zero in with infrared targeting cameras.

Bill Whitaker: So you're seeing it both with the radar and with the infrared. And that tells you that there is something out there? 

Ryan Graves: Pretty hard to spoof that. 

These photographs were taken in 2019 in the same area. The Pentagon confirms these are images of objects it can't identify. Lieutenant Graves told us pilots training off the Atlantic Coast see things like that all the time. 

Ryan Graves: Every day. Every day for at least a couple years. 

Bill Whitaker: Wait a minute, every day for a couple of years? 

Ryan Graves: Uh-huh. 

Ryan Graves: I don't see an exhaust plume.

Soundbites from pilots: Look at that thing, it's rotating! My gosh! They're all going against the wind, the wind's 120 knots to the west. Look at that thing dude!  

Bill Whitaker: You can sorta hear the surprise in their voices. 

Ryan Graves: You certainly can. They seem to have broke character a bit and were just kind of amazed at what they were seeing. 

Bill Whitaker: What do you think when you see something like this? 

Ryan Graves: This is a difficult one to explain. You have rotation, you have high altitudes.  You have propulsion, right? I don't know. I don't know what it is, frankly. 

He told us pilots speculate they are one of three things: secret U.S. technology, an adversary's spy vehicle, or something otherworldly.  

Ryan Graves: I would say, you know, the highest probability is it's a threat observation program. 

Bill Whitaker: Could it be Russian or Chinese technology?

Ryan Graves: I don't see why not.

Bill Whitaker: Are you alarmed? 

Ryan Graves: I am worried, frankly. You know, if these were tactical jets from another country that were hangin' out up there, it would be a massive issue. But because it looks slightly different, we're not willing to actually look at the problem in the face. We're happy to just ignore the fact that these are out there, watching us every day. 

The government has ignored it - at least publicly - since closing its project "Blue Book" investigation in 1969. But that began to change after an incident off Southern California in 2004, which was documented by radar, by camera, and four naval aviators. We spoke to two of them: David Fravor, a graduate of the Top Gun naval flight school and commander of the F/A-18F squadron on the USS Nimitz; and flying at his wing, Lieutenant Alex Dietrich, who has never spoken publicly about the encounter. 

Alex Dietrich: I never wanted to be on national TV, no offense. 

Bill Whitaker: So why are you doing this? 

Alex Dietrich: Because I was in a government aircraft, because I was on the clock. And so I feel a responsibility to s-- to share what I can. And it is unclassified.  

It was November 2004 and the USS Nimitz carrier strike group was training about 100 miles southwest of San Diego. For a week, the advanced new radar on a nearby ship, the USS Princeton, had detected what operators called "multiple anomalous aerial vehicles" over the horizon, descending 80,000 feet in less than a second. On November 14, Fravor and Dietrich, each with a weapons systems officer in the backseat, were diverted to investigate. They found an area of roiling whitewater the size of a 737 in an otherwise calm, blue sea. 

Dave Fravor: So as we're looking at this, her back-seater says, "Hey, Skipper, do you..." And about that got out, I said, "Dude, do you, do you see that thing down there?" And we saw this little white Tic Tac-looking object. And it's just kind of moving above the whitewater area. 

As Deitrich circled above - Fravor went in for a closer look. 

Bill Whitaker: So you're sort of spiraling down? 

Dave Fravor: Yep. The Tic Tac's still pointing north-south, it goes, click, and just turns abruptly. And starts mirroring me. So as I'm coming down, it starts coming up. 

Bill Whitaker: So it's mimicking your moves?

Dave Fravor: Yeah, it was aware we were there.

He said it was about the size of his F/A-18F, with no markings, no wings, no exhaust plumes.

Dave Fravor: I want to see how close I can get. So I go like this. And it's climbing still.  And when it gets right in front of me, it just disappears. 

Bill Whitaker: Disappears? 

Dave Fravor: Disappears. Like, gone. 

It had sped off.

Bill Whitaker: What are you thinking? 

Alex Dietrich: So your mind tries to make sense of it. I'm gonna categorize this as maybe a helicopter or maybe a drone. And when it disappeared. I mean it was just… 

Bill Whitaker: Did your back-seaters see this too? 

Alex Dietrich: Yeah.

Dave Fravor: Oh yeah. There was four of us in the airplanes literally watching this thing for roughly about five minutes. 

Seconds later, the Princeton reacquired the target. 60 miles away. Another crew managed to briefly lock onto it with a targeting camera before it zipped off again. 

Alex Dietrich: You know, I think that over beers, we've sort of said, "Hey man, if I saw this solo, I don't know that I would have come back and said anything," because it sounds so crazy when I say it. 

Bill Whitaker: You understand that reaction? 

Dave Fravor: I do. I've had some people tell me, you know, "When you say that, you can sound crazy." I'll be hon-- I'm not a UFO guy. 

Bill Whitaker: But from what I hear you guys saying, there's something?

Alex Dietrich: Yes. 

Dave Fravor: Oh there's, there's definitely something that…  I don't know who's building it, who's got the technology, who's got the brains. But there's, there's something out there that was better than our airplane. 

The aircrew filed reports. Then like the mysterious flying object, the Nimitz encounter disappeared. Nothing was said or done officially for five years, until Lue Elizondo came across the story and investigated.

Lue Elizondo: We spend millions of dollars in training these pilots. And they are seeing something that they can't explain. Furthermore, that informations being backed up on electro optical data, like gun camera footage. And by radar data. Now, to me, that's compelling. 

Inside the Pentagon his findings were met with skepticism. AATIP's funding was eliminated in 2012, but Elizondo says he and a handful of others kept the mission alive until finally, frustrated, he quit the Pentagon in 2017, but not before getting these three videos declassified and then things took a stranger turn. 

Chris Mellon: I tried to help my colleague, Lue Elizondo, elevate the issue in the department and actually get it to the Secretary of Defense. 

Christopher Mellon served as deputy assistant secretary of defense for intelligence for Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush and had access to top secret government programs. 

Chris Mellon: So it's not us, that's one thing we know. 

Bill Whitaker: We know that? 

Chris Mellon: I can say that with a very high degree of confidence in part because of the positions I held in the department, and I know the process. 

Mellon says he grew concerned nothing was being done about UAPs, so he decided to do something. In 2017, as a private citizen, he surreptitiously acquired the three Navy videos Elizondo had declassified and leaked them to the New York Times. 

Chris Mellon: It's bizarre and unfortunate that someone like myself has to do something like that to get a national security issue like this on the agenda. 

He joined forces with now civilian Lue Elizondo and they started to tell their story to anybody who would listen: to newspapers, the History Channel, to members of Congress.

Chris Mellon: We knew and understood that you had to go to the public, get the public interested to get Congress interested, to then circle back to the Defense Department and get them to start taking a look at it.

And now it is. Last year, the Pentagon resurrected AATIP, it's now called the UAP task force; service members now are encouraged to report strange encounters; and the Senate wants answers.

Marco Rubio: Anything that enters an airspace that's not supposed to be there is a threat.

After receiving classified briefings on UAPs, Senator Marco Rubio called for a detailed analysis. This past December, while he was still head of the intelligence committee, he asked the director of national intelligence and the Pentagon to present Congress an unclassified report.

Bill Whitaker: This is a bizarre issue. The Pentagon and other branches of the military have a long history of sort of dismissing this. What makes you think that this time's gonna be different?

Marco Rubio: We're gonna find out when we get that report. You know, there's a stigma on Capitol Hill. I mean, some of my colleagues are very interested in this topic and some kinda, you know, giggle when you bring it up. But I don't think we can allow the stigma to keep us from having an answer to a very fundamental question.  

Bill Whitaker: What do you want us to do about this?

Marco Rubio: I want us to take it seriously and have a process to take it seriously. I want us to have a process to analyze the data every time it comes in. That there be a place where this is cataloged and constantly analyzed, until we get some answers. Maybe it has a very simple answer. Maybe it doesn't.

A few weeks after our story aired, the director of national intelligence released an unclassified report saying UAP probably lack a single explanation, but that some "appear to demonstrate advanced technology," meriting "further analysis."

New mathematical solutions to an old problem in astronomy

For millennia, humanity has observed the changing phases of the Moon. The rise and fall of sunlight reflected off the Moon, as it presents its different faces to us, is known as a "phase curve". Measuring phase curves of the Moon and Solar System planets is an ancient branch of astronomy that goes back at least a century. The shapes of these phase curves encode information on the surfaces and atmospheres of these celestial bodies. In modern times, astronomers have measured the phase curves of exoplanets using space telescopes such as Hubble, Spitzer, TESS and CHEOPS. These observations are compared with theoretical predictions. In order to do so, one needs a way of calculating these phase curves. It involves seeking a solution to a difficult mathematical problem concerning the physics of radiation.

Approaches for the calculation of phase curves have existed since the 18th century. The oldest of these solutions goes back to the Swiss mathematician, physicist and astronomer, Johann Heinrich Lambert, who lived in the 18th century. "Lambert's law of reflection" is attributed to him. The problem of calculating reflected light from Solar System planets was posed by the American astronomer Henry Norris Russell in an influential 1916 paper. Another well-known 1981 solution is attributed to the American lunar scientist Bruce Hapke, who built on the classic work of the Indian-American Nobel laureate Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar in 1960. Hapke pioneered the study of the Moon using mathematical solutions of phase curves. The Soviet physicist Viktor Sobolev also made important contributions to the study of reflected light from celestial bodies in his influential 1975 textbook. Inspired by the work of these scientists, theoretical astrophysicist Kevin Heng of the Center for Space and Habitability CSH at the University of Bern has discovered an entire family of new mathematical solutions for calculating phase curves. The paper, authored by Kevin Heng in collaboration with Brett Morris from the National Center of Competence in Research NCCR PlanetS—which the University of Bern manages together with the University of Geneva—and Daniel Kitzmann from the CSH, has just been published in Nature Astronomy.

Generally applicable solutions

"I was fortunate that this rich body of work had already been done by these great scientists. Hapke had discovered a simpler way to write down the classic solution of Chandrasekhar, who famously solved the radiative transfer equation for isotropic scattering. Sobolev had realised that one can study the problem in at least two mathematical coordinate systems." Sara Seager brought the problem to Heng's attention by her summary of it in her 2010 textbook.

By combining these insights, Heng was able to write down mathematical solutions for the strength of reflection (the albedo) and the shape of the phase curve, both completely on paper and without resorting to a computer. "The ground-breaking aspect of these solutions is that they are valid for any law of reflection, which means they can be used in very general ways. The defining moment came for me when I compared these pen-and-paper calculations to what other researchers had done using computer calculations. I was blown away by how well they matched," said Heng.

Successful analysis of the phase curve of Jupiter

"What excites me is not just the discovery of new theory, but also its major implications for interpreting data", says Heng. For example, the Cassini spacecraft measured phase curves of Jupiter in the early 2000s, but an in-depth analysis of the data had not previously been done, probably because the calculations were too computationally expensive. With this new family of solutions, Heng was able to analyze the Cassini phase curves and infer that the atmosphere of Jupiter is filled with clouds made up of large, irregular particles of different sizes. This parallel study has just been published by the Astrophysical Journal Letters, in collaboration with Cassini data expert and planetary scientist Liming Li of Houston University in Texas, U.S.A.

New possibilities for the analysis of data from space telescopes

"The ability to write down mathematical solutions for phase curves of reflected light on paper means that one can use them to analyze data in seconds," said Heng. It opens up new ways of interpreting data that were previously infeasible. Heng is collaborating with Pierre Auclair-Desrotour (formerly CSH, currently at Paris Observatory) to further generalize these mathematical solutions. "Pierre Auclair-Desrotour is a more talented applied mathematician than I am, and we promise exciting results in the near future," said Heng.

In the Nature Astronomy paper, Heng and his co-authors demonstrated a novel way of analyzing the phase curve of the exoplanet Kepler-7b from the Kepler space telescope. Brett Morris led the data analysis part of the paper. "Brett Morris leads the data analysis for the CHEOPS mission in my research group, and his modern data science approach was critical for successfully applying the mathematical solutions to real data," explained Heng. They are currently collaborating with scientists from the American-led TESS space telescope to analyze TESS phase curve data. Heng envisions that these new solutions will lead to novel ways of analyzing phase curve data from the upcoming, 10-billion-dollar James Webb Space Telescope, which is due to launch later in 2021. "What excites me most of all is that these mathematical solutions will remain valid long after I am gone, and will probably make their way into standard textbooks," said Heng.

Astronomers Use “X-Ray Magnifying Glass” To Enhance View of Distant Black Holes

• Astronomers have used an “X-ray magnifying glass” to study a black hole system in the early Universe.

• The amplification and magnification of light by an intervening galaxy allowed the detection of two distant X-ray-emitting objects.

• The objects are either two growing supermassive black holes, or one such black hole and a jet.

• This result helps us understand the growth of black holes in the early Universe and the possible existence of systems with multiple black holes.

A new technique using NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory has allowed astronomers to obtain an unprecedented look at a black hole system in the early Universe. This is providing a way for astronomers to look at faint and distant X-ray objects in more detail than had previously been possible.

Astronomers used an alignment in space that shows “gravitational lensing” of light from two objects that are nearly 12 billion light years away. An artist’s illustration in the main part of this graphic shows how the paths of light from these distant objects are bent and amplified by a galaxy along the line of sight between Earth and the objects.

The objects in this latest Chandra study are part of a system called MG B2016+112. The X-rays detected by Chandra were emitted by this system when the Universe was only 2 billion years old compared to its current age of nearly 14 billion years.

Previous studies of radio emission from MG B2016+112 suggested that the system consisted of two separate supermassive black holes, each of which may also be producing a jet. Using a gravitational lensing model based on the radio data, Schwartz and his colleagues concluded that the three X-ray sources they detected from the MG B2016+112 system must have resulted from the lensing of two distinct objects.

The X-ray light from one of the objects on the left (purple) has been warped by the gravity of the intervening galaxy to produce two beams and X-ray sources (“A” and “B” in a labeled version) detected in the Chandra image, which is represented by the dashed square on the right. These two X-ray-emitting objects are likely a pair of growing supermassive black holes or a growing supermassive black hole and a jet. Previous Chandra measurements of pairs or trios of growing supermassive black holes have generally involved objects much closer to Earth, or with much larger separations between the objects.

A paper describing these results appears in The Astrophysical Journal. The authors of the study are Dan Schwartz (Center for Astrophysics | Harvard and Smithsonian), Cristiana Spignola (INAF), and Anna Barnacka (CfA).

On April 19, Ingenuity carried out its maiden flight, making history as the first motorized craft to fly on another planet.

The tiny helicopter has become the regular travel companion of the rover Perseverance.

It was only supposed to fly five times. And yet NASA's helicopter on Mars, Ingenuity, has completed 12 flights and it isn't ready to retire.

Given its stunning and unexpected success, the US space agency has extended Ingenuity's mission indefinitely. 

The tiny helicopter has become the regular travel companion of the rover Perseverance, whose core mission is to seek signs of ancient life on Mars. 

"Everything is working so well," said Josh Ravich, the head of Ingenuity's mechanical engineering team. "We're doing better on the surface than we had expected." 

Hundreds of people contributed to the project, though only about a dozen currently retain day-to-day roles.

Ravich joined the team five years ago. 

"When I got the opportunity to come work on the helicopter project, I think I had the same reaction as anybody else: 'Is that even possible?'"

His initial doubts were understandable: The air on Mars has a density equivalent to only one percent that of Earth's atmosphere. By way of comparison, flying a helicopter on Mars would be like flying one in the thin air nearly 20 miles (30 kilometers) above Earth.

Nor was it easy getting to Mars in the first place. Ingenuity had to withstand the initial shock of takeoff from Earth, and then of the February 18 landing on the red planet following a seven-month voyage through space, strapped to the rover's belly. 

Once in its new surroundings, the tiny (four pound, or 1.8 kilogram) copter has had to survive the glacial cold of Martian nights, drawing warmth from the solar panels that charge its batteries during the day. And its flights are guided using an array of sensors, since the 15-minute lag in communications from Earth makes real-time guidance impossible. 

Scouting duties

On April 19, Ingenuity carried out its maiden flight, making history as the first motorized craft to fly on another planet.

Exceeding all expectations, it has gone on to fly 11 more times. 

"We've actually been able to handle winds greater than we had expected," Ravich told AFP.

"I think by flight three we had actually accomplished all of our engineering goals ... (and) got all the information we had hoped to get," said Ravich, who works for NASA's famed Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), which developed the helicopter.

Since then, Ingenuity has flown as high as 39 feet (12 meters), and its last flight lasted two minutes and 49 seconds. In all, it has covered a distance of 1.6 miles.

In May, Ingenuity flew its first one-way mission, landing outside the relatively flat "airfield" that had been carefully selected as its initial home.  

But not all has gone smoothly. Its sixth flight brought some excitement.

After being knocked dangerously off-balance by a malfunction affecting the photos taken in flight to help it stabilize, the tiny craft was able to recover. It landed, safe and sound, and the problem was resolved.

Ingenuity is now being sent out to scout the way for Perseverance, using its high-resolution color camera.

The purpose is twofold: to chart a path for the rover that is safe, but also which is of scientific interest, notably in geological terms. 

Ken Farley, who heads Perseverance's science team, explained how photos taken by Ingenuity during its 12th flight showed that a region dubbed South Seitha was of less interest than scientists had hoped.  

As a result, the rover might not be sent there. 

Favorable conditions

After more than six months on the red planet, the little drone-like craft has gained a growing following on Earth, featured on coffee cups and T-shirts sold on the internet.

What explains its longevity?

"The environment has been very cooperative so far: the temperatures, the wind, the sun, the dust in the air... It's still very cold, but it could have been a lot worse," said Ravich.

In theory, the helicopter should be able to keep operating for some time. But the approaching Martian winter will be challenging.

NASA engineers, now armed with the data from Ingenuity's flights, are already working on its next-generation successors. 

"Something in the 20 to 30 kilograms (range) maybe, able to carry science payloads," said Ravich. 

Those future payloads might just include the rock samples collected by Perseverance.

The enigma behind the true “Scorpion King” of Egypt (Video)

An astonishing 5,000-year-old piece of limestone discovered at an ancient Egyptian site reveals the existence of a “Scorpion King,” but who was this character?

Between 1896 and 1898, the British archaeologist James Edward Quibell and his colleague Frederick William Green were excavating in the ancient predynastic city of Hierakonpolis (known as Nekhen to the ancient Egyptians), near present-day El-Kab, in Upper Egypt, when They made a surprising discovery in one of the city’s temples:

A highly fragmented limestone mace head, dated to about 3100 BC, 25 centimeters high and nine kilos in weight, which had a curious decoration.

In it you could see the image in relief of a king wearing the white crown of Upper Egypt, with a bull’s tail hanging from his waist and carrying an agricultural instrument (a hoe) in his hands.

On his head a rosette-shaped flower was arranged, with seven petals (a symbol used during the Egyptian predynastic to symbolize the sovereign) and, the most curious thing, in front of the king’s face the figure of a scorpion can be clearly appreciated.

As there is no more information on the name of this ancient ruler, Quibell baptized him as the Scorpion King. The splendid piece was taken to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, where it is currently on display.

One hundred years later, in 1988, a German archaeological mission, led by the Egyptologist Gunter Dreyer, who was carrying out excavations in the royal cemeteries of Abydos, in Umm el-Qaab, in Upper Egypt, discovered, in the so-called “ U ”Cemetery, a large underground tomb (UJ) made up of twelve rooms.

The tomb had been looted in the most remote antiquity, but in one of its chambers the archaeologists found a heka ivory scepter (in the form of a crook), a symbol of royal power, and some four hundred ceramic vessels from the Near East, which attests to the existence of commercial relations between both territories in such remote times.

Some of these jugs had the symbol of the scorpion painted on one of their sides. Had archaeologists discovered the tomb of the mysterious ruler whose mace was found by Quibell?

Although this extreme could not be confirmed, it has been possible to date the tomb, some one hundred years before Dynasty I of Egypt, around 3200 BC, a period that Egyptologists have baptized as Dynasty O.

But recent research suggests that the UJ tomb at Abydos belonged to another Scorpion king, who reigned before the monarch depicted on the Hierakonpolis macehead. Researchers have named him Horus Scorpion I.

But then .. Who was the Scorpion king depicted in the mace head discovered by Quibell in Hierakonpolis?

The reliefs on this piece clearly indicate that he was a king of Upper Egypt and that at that time the country was not yet unified.

Researchers have not yet reached an agreement on this, but one of the most widespread theories is that this character, whom researchers have dubbed Horus Scorpion II (Hor Serq), was possibly the father or predecessor of Narmer, the king who is unanimously attributed the unification of Egypt and is considered the first pharaoh in history.

It is not known with total certainty where Horus Scorpion II was buried, but Dreyer and his team pointed out as a possible burial place of this ruler the tomb B-50 of the so-called “Cemetery B” of Abydos.

Actually we can know little about the true Scorpion king, although Hollywood has been responsible for filling that gap with a series of films (specifically four) dedicated to the character.

Obviously, cinema is entertainment and we all like adventure films, even if they are not true to life.

In the case that concerns us, the same thing happens and we can affirm without fear of being mistaken that all similarities between the real Scorpion King and the fictional one, as one would say in the cinematographic world, “is pure coincidence”.

UFO reports come from all corners of the globe and from people from all walks of life. There seems to be nowhere that is immune to such strange phenomena, with this seeming to be an all-encompassing wave of strangeness that is as of yet beyond our ability to comprehend. One area that has seen plenty of UFO action are the islands of our world, and this may make sense in that UFOs have often been said to be drawn to water. Whether that is true or not, islands have consistently brought in some weird accounts, and here are some of the weirdest.

In 1954 there was a very bizarre UFO event in the island nation of Madagascar, which would be witnessed by potentially tens of thousands of witnesses. On August 16, 1954, an “electric green ball” was seen hurtling down from the sky over the Palais de la Reine, also called the Rova of Antananarivo, in the bustling city of Antananarivo. The mysterious object went streaking behind a nearby hill, and at the time it was thought to be perhaps a meteorite that was about to hit, but there was no explosion or impact. As a multitude of alarmed citizens tried to figure out what was going on, the green light reappeared from behind the hill and proceeded to silently fly up and down over the Avenue of the Liberation while an estimated tens of thousands of awestruck people looked on in various states ranging from awe to horror. It was noticed at the time that street lights and shop lights would flicker and go out as the object passed over them, only to snap back on as it went by, and dogs all over the city were furiously barking. The object continued travelling over the city, passing over a zoo, where all of the animals became absolutely hysterical, and when it passed by cattle on the outskirts of the city they too went nuts. Whatever it was then flew off to the west and was gone. The event was witnessed by as many as 200,000 people and has never been explained.

Antananarivo

In 1958 there is a case from the remote rocky uninhabited speck of rocky land called Trinidade, located in the South Atlantic between Brazil and Africa. The island is far from civilization, with no settlements and the only people here being the seasonal staff of an oceanographic post and a meteorological station operated by the Hydrography and Navigation Division of the Ministry of the Navy. It is a wind-lashed, forbidding place, surrounded by lonely seas and forgotten by the world, and where not much ever really happens, but that would change in January of 1958. At the time, a Naval oceanographic research vessel called the Almirante Saldanha made its way to the island to perform scientific studies, after which it was to head off to Rio de Janeiro. On January 16, as the ship was preparing to depart after several days on the island, something very strange would happen. On that day, a number of people on deck witnessed a bizarre object in the sky, which a photographer on board by the name of Almiro Barauna also observed and managed to take photographs of. He would say of it:

It was on January 16, at 12:15 P.M. The ship was preparing to leave the island, to come back to Rio. I was on the deck observing the operations to take aboard the boat used in the trips between the ship and the island (the island has no harbor). The sea was agitated. The weather was cloudy, clear, with no shadows. I had my Rolleiflex 2.8, Model E, which was kept inside an aluminum box for protection against the corrosive effects of water and salt. I had left my Leica with a telephoto lens in my cabin a few moments before. The deck was full of sailors and officers. Suddenly, Mr. Amilar Vieira and Captain Viegas called me, pointing to a certain spot in the sky and yelling about a bright object which was approaching the island.

At this same moment, when I was still trying to see what it was, Lieutenant Homero, the ship’s dentist, came from the bow toward us, running, pointing out to the sky and also yelling about an object he was sighting. He was so disturbed and excited that he almost fell down after colliding with a cable. Then I was finally able to locate the object, by the flash (of light) it emitted. It was already close to the island. It glittered at certain moments, perhaps changing its own light – I don’t know. It was coming over the sea, moving toward the point called the Galo Crest. I had lost thirty seconds looking for the object, but the camera was already in my hands, ready, when I sighted it clearly silhouetted against the clouds. I shot two photos before it disappeared behind the peak Desejado. My camera was set at a speed of 125 [125th of a second], with the aperture at f/8, and this was the cause of an overexposure error, as I discovered later.

The object remained out of sight for a few seconds – behind the peak – reappearing bigger in size and flying in the opposite direction, but lower and closer than before, and moving at a higher speed. I shot the third photo. The fourth and fifth ones were lost, not only because of the speed the saucer was moving, but also for another reason: In the confusion produced as a result of the sighting, I was being pulled and pushed by other persons also trying to spot the object and, as a consequence, photographed the sea and the island only – not the object. It was moving out to sea again, in the direction from which it had come, and it appeared to stop in midair for a brief time. At that moment I shot my last photo (the last on the film). After about ten seconds, the object continued to increase its distance from the ship, gradually diminishing in size and finally disappearing into the horizon. The object was sighted by almost all the people on the deck at that time, including Lieutenant Homero, Captain Viegas, and Mr. Amilar Vieira.

Trinidade Island

Barauna would have the photos developed as soon as he could, and the negatives were turned over to the Navy. It would also turn out that others in the area on other vessels had also seen the object and even photographed it, and he was extensively interviewed by Navy officials. Barauna would say of all of this:

I was interviewed by several high-staff officers, who asked me all kinds of questions. I went there twice. At the first meeting, they requested the negatives for examination. They were sent to a civilian organization, the Cruzeiro do Sul Aerophoto grammetric Service, remaining there for four days. I was told by the Navy officers that the analyses proved they were genuine -excluding definitely the possibility of a trick or falsification. On the second visit, they performed several time-tests. While I worked with my Rolleiflex, taking shots at the same time intervals I had used to photograph the object, three Navy officers with chronometers registered the times.

They came to the conclusion – based on these tests as well as on studies concerning the ship’s position and examinations of charts of the island – that the object was flying at a speed between 900 and 1,000 km./hour [about 600 mph]. The object’s size was also estimated on the basis of studies related with the island’s details also appearing on the photos, diagrams drawn on charts, graphs, et cetera. The object was about 120 feet in diameter and about 24 feet high. They requested me to keep the matter secret for some time. I was permitted to publish the case only after authorization from the Navy. The permission was granted, verbally, on the night of February 15, by Commander Bacellar. They made only one restriction, which I cannot mention for the reason that I have given my word. I was informed of four other sightings over the island during those thirty days preceding the incident of January 16. I was also informed of another thing: At one of those sightings, the object was photographed by a Navy sergeant. His photo obviously was not released and probably never will be – the reasons are evident. Besides those four sightings, there was also the RADAR case. A target flying at supersonic speed was tracked by the radar of the Almirante Saldanha on January 15.

The photos eventually got out into the wild and created quite a lot of excitement in the general public, as they were very clear photos of an actual UFO. As people discussed and debated them, the Navy went quiet and refused to make any comment or answer any questions on the matter, despite the fact that many high-ranking Navy personnel had witnessed the event and were telling their stories. The hype over the incident and its photos got so intense that the Navy had to step in, making a statement that said:

With reference to the reports appearing in the press that the Navy is opposed to divulge the facts concerning the appearance of a strange object over Trindade Island, this Cabinet declares that such information has no basis. This Ministry has no motive to impede the release of photographs of the referred-to object, taken by Mr. Almiro Barauna, who was at Trindade Island at the invitation of the Navy, and in the presence

of a large number of the crew of Almirante Saldanha from whose deck the photographs were taken. Clearly, this Ministry will not be able to make any pronouncement concerning the object seen, because the photographs do not constitute sufficient proof for such purpose.

In the end, the Brazilian Navy would say nothing more on the case, the photos, or its analysis of them, and we are left to wonder what all of these qualified witnesses saw out there at that island and what is in those images. Another weird case happened at the rugged and remote Anglican mission village at Boianai, Papua, New Guinea, where on April 5, 1959, a Father William Booth Gill was there doing missionary work when he would have an outlandish experience. On that evening, Gill would observe a strange fast-moving light moving through the sky in the distance over the remote Mount Pudi. This would be followed a month later by an “inverted saucer-shaped object” hovering over the mission. At first Gill tried to put these anomalous occurrences out of his head and get on with his work, but on June 26, 1959 Gill and dozens of other witnesses saw a four-legged, disc-shaped object fly out from the wilderness to hover over the mission with four small humanoids that busily went about some unknown task as a blue beam intermittently shot down from the craft to the ground below. Curious, some of the witnesses waved their hands and were astonished when the entities waved back. Gill would say:

On the large one, two of the figures seemed to be doing something near the center of the deck. They were occasionally bending over and raising their arms as though adjusting or “setting up” something. One figure seemed to be standing, looking down at us. In a moment of anticipation, I raised his arms and waved to the figure. To our surprise the figure did the same. Ananias waved both arms over his head; then the two outside figures did the same. Ananias and myself began waving our arms, and all four seemed to wave back. There seemed no doubt that our movements were answered.

After about an hour of this the beings entered the ship again and flew off, after which several smaller craft would patrol the area for some time before disappearing. Later that evening, Gill would hear a loud bang from outside and go out to see four UFOs circling about before flying off. The sightings have never been explained. Moving on to 1972 there is a curious account from Uruguay’s remote Isla de Lobos, a tiny island just off the coast, populated by fur seals and with the only sign of humans is a lone lighthouse on the rocky, wind blasted shore. This lighthouse is manned by a garrison of five Navy men who do 15-day shifts, and on October 28, 1972 the shift would have dinner as usual, after which one of the men, a Corporal Juan Fuentes Figueroa, went out to check the generators on a routine inspection. As he was out there, his attention was caught by some strange lights in the sky hovering near the top of the generator building, seemingly right above a terrace that was situated up there about 20 feet above the ground. The lights looked to him like car headlights, although this was of course impossible, and they seemed to be flashing and oscillating between a mix of white, yellow and violet.

Fuentes was so unsettled by the sight that he went back to get his pistol, oddly not telling any of the other men what was going on. When he went back outside to approach the generator building again, this time he could see that there was an object up there apparently landed on the terrace, described as a metallic, copper-colored object shaped like an inverted bowl, standing on some sort of landing gear and with a rotating antenna of some sort on its top. What’s more, in the eerie illumination of the lights there was what looked to be a figure standing beside the object, and a second and third figure were descending from the craft. They seemed to be wearing some sort of dark suits akin to diving suits, their heads appearing somewhat elongated and oversized, and one seemed to be noticeably taller than the others, although Fuentes could not make out a lot of details. He then realized that they had turned towards him and seemed to be very aware that he was there.

At this time, Fuentes was overcome with fear and panic, and raised his pistol to point it up at the craft. It was at this point that he felt a strange sensation throughout his body like a vibration that sent his hair standing up on end, and found that he was unable to move, as if paralyzed, all while a voice boomed through his head that said “Don’t shoot because it is useless.” After this, the strange entities went back up into their ship, seemingly walking up steps of some kind, appearing to be pulling themselves up with handrails, after which the craft closed and began to lift off as its landing legs retracted telescopically. It hovered up in the air momentarily, then silently sped off at breathtaking speed with a flash of bright light like a fireball. At this point, Fuentes ran back to the others and told them what had happened, but no one believed him. Considering he was the superior officer and no one believed him, this came as a shock, but it would seem that at least one of the men, Francisco Cascudo, thought it was odd enough to pass it along to a superior officer and they would all check it out.

Not long after their tour at the lighthouse ended, Fuentes was called aside by high-ranking officials, who interviewed him at length on what he had allegedly seen. Fuentes would claim that there had also been two men who he believed to be from the U.S. Embassy lurking in the background taking notes, and who were later identified as officers of the “Spatial Affair Service.” Fuentes was also shown various pictures of different UFOs and asked to point out which were most similar to what he had witnessed and then dismissed. At no point was he ever directly questioned by the mysterious Americans, but he could see them excitedly talking to his interrogators in another room, making it obvious they were very interested in his sighting. After this, the case came to the attention of the Uruguayan UFO Investigation Center, who subjected Fuentes to some psychological tests and came to the conclusion that he was a solid witness, described as “sincere, uncomplicated and simple, with no tendency to fabrication or fantasy and lacking an average imagination.” It was also noted that Fuentes had no previous interest in or knowledge of UFOs, and they came to the conclusion that he at least truly believed he had seen what he claimed. Sub-officer Cascudo would back this up, describing Fuentes as a “simple and honest man, incapable of inventing a story of this nature.”

Finally, we have a report from the Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean in the region called Macaronesia and just about 62 miles from the northwestern coast of Africa off Morocco. On June 22, 1976, people living on the islands of Tenerife, La Palma, and La Gomera began calling in to report numerous strange lights performing odd maneuvers in the sky, amongst them one that seemed to be larger than the others, described as a giant, luminous sphere. Among these reports some were more spectacular than others, and one of the first reported incidents was made by the Navy escort ship, the Atrevida, which at the time was positioned off the coast of Fuerteventura Island. On this evening at approximately 9:27 PM, the crew observed an extremely bright light moving in the general direction of the ship. It was first thought to be a normal aircraft, but this turned out to not be the case, as it began rotating, pulsating, and generating a blindingly bright halo of yellow and blue, as well as various flashing strobe effects. The baffled crew watched this mysterious object for a full 40 minutes, and the official report from the ship would read in part:

The original light went out and a luminous beam from it began to rotate. It remained like this for approximately two minutes. Then an intense great halo of yellowish and bluish light developed, and remained in the same position for 40 minutes, even though the original phenomenon was no longer visible. Two minutes after the great halo, the light split into two parts, the smaller part being beneath, in the center of the luminous halo, where a blue cloud appeared and the part from which the bluish nucleus had come, vanished. The upper part began to climb in a spiral, rapid and irregular, and finally vanished. None of these movements affected the initial circular halo in any way, which remained just the same the whole time, its glow lighting up parts of the land and the ocean, from which we could deduce that the phenomenon was not very far away from us, but was close.

At no point was the craft picked up on radar, and a check of air traffic in the area showed no military or civilian aircraft scheduled to be in the vicinity. This would start a whole series of reports from throughout the Canary Islands as whatever it was headed out on its inscrutable mission, and people seemed to be reporting two different types of phenomena, one being this large sphere and the other being smaller flitting orbs, and these were seen by hundreds of people across several islands. One of the most intriguing reports came from a doctor Francisco Padron Leon, who at the time was in a taxi on his way to a house call at the town of Las Rosas. However, things got very odd when both he and the driver noticed an illuminated globe up in front of them, just seeming to hover over the ground. According to Leon’s report, it measured an estimated 100 feet across, and was seemingly made up of a semi-clear material like crystal. More bizarre still was that as they drew closer they could see that the bottom of the sphere was ringed by some sort of metallic platform, upon which two immense humanoid beings around 10 feet in height were standing next to large consoles of some kind. These two creatures had oversized heads, wore some kind of helmets, and seemed to be operating a giant tube that belched forth a bluish smoke, and the doctor would say of these entities and what happened next:

At each side of the center there were two huge figures of 2.50 to 3 m. [8.5 to 10 ft.] tall, but no taller than 3 m. [10 ft.], dressed entirely in red and facing each other in such a way that I always saw their profile. Then I observed that some kind of bluish smoke was coming out from a semi-transparent central tube in the sphere, covering the periphery of the sphere’s interior without leaking outside at any moment. Then the sphere began to grow and grow until it became huge like a 20-story house, but the platform and the crew remained the same size; it rose slowly and majestically and it seems I heard a very tenuous whistling.

This gigantic sphere would ascend and then purportedly shoot off at astounding speed along with its mysterious occupants. It would then be seen by several other witnesses directly after this, including the very patient that the doctor was on his way to see, all of who described the same translucent crystalline structure and giant beings on their catwalk. By the end of the evening there would apparently be thousands of reports from across the archipelago describing something bizarre going on in the sky, coming from a wide variety of professions and ages and making them one of the most mass witnessed UFO events ever, yet it was all mostly swept under the carpet by the Spanish Air Force.

The Canary Islands

The following year, in 1977, some of these reports were leaked to journalist J. J. Benitez by a Spanish Air Force General, and would subsequently find their way into his book UFOs: Official Documents of the Spanish Government, but this was all still considered unverifiable and filled with spooky conspiracies. It would not be until 1994 that people would really take it seriously, when the Spanish Air Force declassified its files on the events and it was clear for all to see that something very odd had indeed been documented from that evening. The declassified report was very detailed, included over 100 pages of testimony, evaluations, drawings, a full chronology of the sightings, and it also took the step of separating witnesses by their perceived level of veracity and reliability, with the reports of the crew of the Atrevida and that of doctor Leon ranking at the top. It was also explained that an investigative adjunct had been launched by the Spanish Air Force, which had found that there had been no military or civilian aircraft at the time and they officially labelled it an “unidentified aerial phenomena.”

There are no easy answers for any of these cases, and they join the ranks of the many, may UFO reports that have come before them. Although such accounts come in from all over the world from many environments, there just seems to be something fascinating about these island reports. To know that there are these strips of land out there isolated from the rest of the world having these incidents holds a certain sense of allure, and it all only adds to the mystery of the UFO phenomenon at large.

Following on from my previous article on journalist Dorothy Kilgallen – on an alleged crashed UFO and a crew of dead aliens said to have been found in in the U.K. during the Second World War – I thought I would share with you a couple more very weird stories from that same time-frame. Declassified U.K. military papers tell an incredible story. The documentation goes under the title of  “Report by the Crew of 61 Sqdn. A/c ‘J,’ Captain W/O Lever, of object seen during raid on TURIN, night of November 28/29th, 1942.” That’s a pretty big title! Nevertheless, it gets to the point of the incident. A report prepared for Bomber Command included these words: “Herewith a copy of a report received from a crew of a Lancaster [aircraft] after a raid on Turin. The crew refuses to be shaken in their story in the face of the usual banter and ridicule.” Now, let us get to the heart of the story that can be found in the National Archives, U.K. Along with more tales of strange, aerial objects, I should stress. With that said, back to the content of the document:

Lancaster bomber

“The object referred to above was seen by the entire crew of the above aircraft. They believe it to have been 200-300 feet in length and its width is estimated at 1/5th or 1/6th of its length. The speed was estimated at 500 m.p.h., and it had four pairs of red lights spaced at equal distances along its body. These lights did not appear in any way like exhaust flames; no trace was seen. The object kept a level course. The crew saw the object twice during the raid, and brief details are given below: (i) After bombing, time 2240 hours, a/c height 11,000 feet. The aircraft at this time was some 10/15 miles south-west of Turin traveling in a north-westerly direction. The object was traveling south-east at the same height or slightly below the aircraft. (ii) After bombing, time 2245 hours, a/c height 14,000 feet. The aircraft was approaching the Alps when the object was seen again traveling west-south-west up a valley in the Alps below the level of the peaks. The lights appeared to go out and the object disappeared from view.” The documentation reveals this, too: “The Captain of the aircraft also reports that he has seen a similar object about three months ago north of Amsterdam. In this instance it appeared to be on the ground and later traveling at high speed at a lower level than the heights given above along the coast for about two seconds; the lights then went out for the same period of time and came on again, and the object was still seen to be traveling in the same direction.”

Whatever this immense craft was, it was never identified. Now, let’s take a look at another bizarre case from the Second World War. It begins as follows: “From the latter part of the Second World War (the exact date is missing) comes the following from the in-house newsletter of the British Royal Air Force’s, 115 Squadron: “Under this heading there occur from time to time reports of weird and wonderful apparitions seen during our (and the American) attacks on Germany. We have asked our local Inner Circle bloke to comment on the latest species of wizardry. Here is his story…believe it or not.” The paperwork becomes somewhat amusing: “On the 11th December the Yanks paid one of their daylight visits to Emden. Visibility was good and the weather clear. An unidentified object was seen in the target area. It was about the size of a Thunderbolt and passed 50 – 75 yards beneath the formation.

“It flew straight and level (No chaps it was not a Lanc. gone mad…) at a terrific speed, leaving a streak like a vapour trail which remained visible for a long time. The object passed so quickly that the observer could not determine it more accurately. Suggestions will be welcome…serious ones…as to what this Loch Ness Monster of Emden might have been. (Prize… one year’s free issue of this News Sheet…if the publication survives as long.) Another of the attacking aircraft was hit by a length of wire which bit deeply into the nose. Twenty feet were coiled around the nose and something caused the bomb door to open. The wire may have been towed behind a fighter which had just made an attack upon the bomber; some form of explosive charge or weight may have been attached to a parachute fired from a rocket projectile, though no parachute was seen. An examination of the wire is taking place and it is hoped that this will shed some light on the occurrence. In another attack, this time on Bremen, there were many reports of ‘silver and red discs above the formations [italics mine].’ These have been seen before but up to now no-one has been able to decide their purpose. Suggestions please.” Neither case was ever solved.

A UFO was sighted amongst the clouds at Bursa road construction site Karacabey.
: Bursa is a large city in northwestern Turkey, situated at the foot of Mount Uluda ğ approximately 2.500 m high, near the Sea of Marmara. The city is known for its mosques and historic sites of the early Ottoman Empire. It is nicknamed ′′ Ye şil Bursa ′′ (Green Bursa), due to its many parks and trees, as well as its dramatic mountain setting. The 14th Century Ulu Cami features Seljuk style arches and 20 domes.

UFOs were sighted ss firefighters tackled a blaze at the Red Funnel terminal in Southampton, a ferry cam picked up FIVE unidentified objects in the sky.

Eagle-eyed viewer, Jay, spotted the shapes at 2.20am (Friday).
So what are the Unidentified Flying Objects?
Speculation from aliens to shooting stars to meteor showers to satellites to aircrafts from the Bournemouth Air Festival or Elon Musk's Spacex project? : SpaceX Starlink Satellites were scheduled to fly over Southampton. But, according to findstarlink.com, not until 3.06am, to reflection from the fire appliances arriving at the scene.

Long Description of Sighting Report - Case 117752

I was in the balcony of my apartment with my friend when I noticed two bright lights hovering in the sky in South direction (South from Yonge and Finch area). I spend most evenings in the balcony and at this point I know the usual traffic routes for the commercial airplanes. I had never seen these lights before and that's why they caught my attention. A few seconds after I observed them, one of them (the lower of the two) vanished. It didn't move or zap away, just vanished. This is when I started recording the object. It was in the distance (a few kilometers away at least) and completely silent. It emitted a golden glow. I couldn't make out its shape. Tried zooming in with my phone, but it still looked like an orb of light. For comparison, I also zoomed into an airplane, and I could clearly make out the airplane in the video. After about 6 minutes of recording, the object vanished.

Glowing Objects Over Tucson, Arizona On Sept 4, 2021, UFO Sighting News.

This just in. An eyewitness in Tucson caught sight of a fleet of glowing UFOs passing overhead. The objects seem to be moving together, matching speed and yet, flashing to each other. The flashes may be communication with one another. The objects are round and about the size of a motorcycle. These objects must have been seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses in Tucson. Arizona is not far from where the famous Phoenix Lights Incident occurred back in March of 1997. These may be the same craft. There are a lot of similarities, for instance the shape of the lights, the speed, the number of craft. It looks like Arizona is a UFO hotbed of activity.

Two UFOs Seen Over Construction Site Near Volcano, Video Costa Rica, UFO Sighting News.

A UFO was recorded while a building was under construction in Costa Rica a few weeks ago. No specifics given beyond a comment that it is a view in the video is from "Carpintera (San Rafael, Provincia de Cartago) looking toward the Irazú volcano." 

 

Now the eyewitness only noticed one UFO, however I can easily see two UFOs in the video. I believe the smaller object is an alien drone from the larger white disk in the distance. The UFO must have come from or was heading toward the mouth of the volcano. It's a well known fact that UFOs frequently use the mouth of volcanos to enter the underground alien bases. They do this to deter humans from seen the UFOs exiting and entering and even to prevent humans from stumbling upon the entrance by accident. 

 

I myself have witnessed a small orb which looked similar to the white orb. It was the size of a softball, but when it came closer...it was semi transparent with pearlescent colors moving slowly over the surface. Because of that experience a few years ago...I know this sighting to be 100% real and significant to UFO research everywhere.

Elizondo, who ran the clandestine U.S. government program for 10 years, also wrote in his resignation letter, “In many instances, there seems to be a direct correlation the phenomena exhibits with respect to our nuclear and military capabilities. The Department must take seriously the many accounts by the Navy and other services of unusual aerial systems interfering with military weapon platforms and displaying beyond next generation capabilities.”

Recently, Elizondo spoke to CBS News’ Bill Whitaker and discussed some of what he saw during his time with the AATIP as well as the declassified UFO report issued by the U.S. government this summer.

Lue Elizondo: The mission of AATIP was quite simple. It was to collect and analyze information involving anomalous aerial vehicles, what I guess in the vernacular you call them UFOs. We call them UAPs.

Bill Whitaker: You know how this sounds? It sounds nutty, wacky.

Lue Elizondo: Look, Bill, I’m not, I’m not telling you that, that it doesn’t sound wacky. What I’m telling you, it’s real. The question is, what is it? What are its intentions? What are its capabilities?

“Imagine a technology that can do 6-to-700 g-forces, that can fly at 13,000 miles an hour, that can evade radar and that can fly through air and water and possibly space,” Elizondo revealed. And oh, by the way, has no obvious signs of propulsion, no wings, no control surfaces and yet still can defy the natural effects of Earth’s gravity. That’s precisely what we’re seeing.”

Whitaker also spoke to former Navy pilot Lieutenant Ryan Graves about the UFOs, or Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs), of which the U.S. government has knowledge.

Bill Whitaker: So you’re seeing it both with the radar and with the infrared. And that tells you that there is something out there?

Ryan Graves: Pretty hard to spoof that.

These photographs were taken in 2019 in the same area. The Pentagon confirms these are images of objects it can’t identify. Lieutenant Graves told us pilots training off the Atlantic Coast see things like that all the time.

Ryan Graves: Every day. Every day for at least a couple years.

Bill Whitaker: Wait a minute, every day for a couple of years?

Ryan Graves: Uh-huh.

While many people want to believe these UAPs are alien spacecrafts, Graves says they are probably not, but what they are is no less worrisome.

“I am worried, frankly,” said Graves. “You know, if these were tactical jets from another country that were hangin’ out up there, it would be a massive issue. But because it looks slightly different, we’re not willing to actually look at the problem in the face. We’re happy to just ignore the fact that these are out there, watching us every day.”

Elizondo added, “We spend millions of dollars in training these pilots. And they are seeing something that they can’t explain. Furthermore, that informations being backed up on electro optical data, like gun camera footage. And by radar data. Now, to me, that’s compelling.”

China is developing its own Mars helicopter

HELSINKI — China is looking at ways of expanding its space exploration capabilities including through a vehicle similar in appearance to NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter.

A prototype of “Mars surface cruise drone” passed a final acceptance review Aug. 20, the National Space Science Center (NSSC) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) announced Wednesday.

The rotorcraft was one of three projects in a technology cultivation program promoted by the NSSC. The vehicle project was led by Bian Chunjiang of the NSSC and features a micro spectrometer. 

The concept could be considered for future Chinese Mars exploration but the NSSC did not identify a mission on which the drone may fly.

China’s first Mars mission, Tianwen-1, entered orbit around the Red Planet in February. This feat was followed by a successful landing of the roughly 240-kilogram, solar-powered Zhurong rover in May. China’s next Mars mission is currently listed as a sample return mission, launching in the 2028 or 2030 launch windows. 

The China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT) in June outlined a study of propulsion needed for future, long term crewed expeditions to Mars, including precursor robotic missions. The study identified favorable launch windows but did not provide a timeline for either the crewed or uncrewed missions.

The concept of flying a craft on Mars has recently been verified by NASA. The Perseverance rover landed on Mars in February, carrying with it the 1.8-kilogram Ingenuity helicopter. The vehicle made the first powered flight by an aircraft on another world in April and conducted its 12th and most recent flight Aug. 16, covering a horizontal distance of 450 meters across 169.5 seconds of flight.

NASA is now examining concepts for larger, more capable rotorcraft for future missions. The agency will in 2027 launch the Dragonfly drone to Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, arriving in 2034. Dragonfly was selected as a New Frontiers planetary science mission. 

China’s own pursuit of flying an aircraft in the thin Martian atmosphere is not new. A concept from the Qian Xuesen Laboratory of Space Technology was considered for the country’s 2020 Mars mission. As well as a rover, the ambitious proposal included three ground penetrators, to be released during descent, and an aerostat which would operate at an altitude of between 1 and 5 kilometers for one week. The objective would have been to obtain “three-dimensional, multi-layer and multi-source information” with one landing.

Entities including the Beijing Institute of Spacecraft System Engineering and Shenzhen Aerospace DFH HIT Satellite Ltd., both under the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), and Beihang University have been embarked on work on concept architectures for Mars exploration.

The first is a winged drone, a design chosen over a helicopter due to the challenges of high rotation speed and requirements for an ultralight structure and high efficiency power system posed by the latter. The drone would lift off vertically from the surface of Mars before pitching and deploying its wings. The vehicle would have a range of tens of kilometers, collecting and potentially analyzing atmosphere and surface samples. It would also be capable of entering otherwise prohibitive environments such as canyons and craters.

The group also put forward a balloon concept, carrying a tethered 2U CubeSat. The system would seek to take atmospheric samples at various altitudes for analysis, while also returning high-resolution imagery and other data.

China’s Tianwen-1 mission carried surprises in the form of an ejected deep space camera and a rover-deployed camera to allow a joint rover-landing platform photo. With innovative and newly-proven concepts already being developed, competition for a place aboard future Chinese exploration missions is likely to be strong.

Security camera captures a UFO flying two meters above the ground

A rare and inexplicable UFO sighting occurred a few days ago, specifically on March 13, 2021, in Orlando, Florida USA.

An impressive video at night by a surveillance camera captured a strange object flying low and very close to an animal.

In the first instance, a deer is observed grazing in front of the surveillance camera, and suddenly an unidentified object passes by it at not very high speed.

NASA Mars Perseverance rover provided valuable data: Former astronaut

NASA's Perseverance Mars rover team announced on Thursday that it has successfully cored its first Mars rock. 

A September 1 image of the long, oddly-shaped and dusty Mars rock provided in a release from the agency showed the circular drill hole.

NASA said that initial images downlinked after the events showed an intact sample present in the sample tube after coring.

"However, additional images taken after the arm completed sample acquisition were inconclusive due to poor sunlight conditions," it said, noting that the rover would obtain additional imagery of the sample tube with better lighting before the processing continues.

"Although the Perseverance mission team is confident that the sample is in the tube, images in optimal lighting conditions will confirm its presence," NASA wrote. 

"The project got its first cored rock under its belt, and that’s a phenomenal accomplishment," Jennifer Trosper, project manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said. "The team determined a location, and selected and cored a viable and scientifically valuable rock. We did what we came to do. We will work through this small hiccup with the lighting conditions in the images and remain encouraged that there is sample in this tube." 

Using a rotary-percussive drill and a hollow coring bit – that holds the sample tube –  at the end of its robotic arm to extract the samples, Perseverance maneuvered the corer, bit and open end of the sample tube to be photographed by its Mastcam-Z instrument.

The initial images showed the end of a cored rock within the sample tube before "Percy" began a procedure called "percuss to ingest." 

The step vibrates the drill bit and tube five times, which can help a sample slide down farther into the tube and can ride the tube's lip of residual material.

Following "percuss to ingest," Perseverance took its second set of Mastcam-Z images, in which the lighting was poor and the "internal portions of the sample tube are not visible."

NASA said that Friday images would be taken when the sun is in a more favorable position and that photos would also be captured after sunset in order to "diminish point-sources of light that can saturate an image."

The photos are set to be returned to Earth on Saturday morning.

If the new images are still uncertain, the team still has several steps it can take including using the rover's Sampling and Caching System’s volume probe to confirm that the sample is in the tube.

Notably, a previous attempt at sampling Mars rock in early August went awry when the team realized the rover had failed to capture the crumbly rock in its tube.

NASA has shared footage of an 'incredibly rare' brown dwarf that could be up to 13 billion years old, named 'The Accident' after being discovered by chance. 

A brown dwarf is a mysterious object that sits somewhere between a gas giant planet and a small star, but without the size to fuse hydrogen like a star would.

There might be more of these unusual 'stars' lurking in our galaxy than previously thought, according to a study by astronomers at Caltech in Pasadena, California.

Named WISE 1534–1043, it is 50 light years from the Earth and doesn't resemble any of the 2,000 brown dwarfs found in our galaxy so far, the NASA researchers said. 

It is faint in some wavelengths of light, bright in others, and hurtling around the Milky Way at half a million miles per hour - faster than any other local brown dwarf. 

The unusual light make-up and speed helped the team determine it is between 10 and 13 billion years old - double the average age of other known brown dwarfs and dating to when the Milky Way was very young and had a different chemical makeup.

This suggests they have been around in the Milky Way since the earliest days and meaning there could be more than first thought, with a hidden population of up to 100 billion brown dwarfs floating in interstellar space.

They are between 13 and 80 times more massive than Jupiter but they're not large enough to fuse elements like hydrogen into helium the way a star does.

While brown dwarfs sometimes defy characterisation, astronomers have a good grasp on their general characteristics, or they did until 'The Accident'.  

As brown dwarfs age, they cool off, and their brightness in different wavelengths of light changes, similar to the way heated metals go from white to red as they cool. 

The Accident confused scientists because it was faint in some key wavelengths, suggesting it was very cold, but bright in others, indicating a higher temperature.

'This object defied all our expectations,' said Davy Kirkpatrick, an astrophysicist at IPAC at Caltech in Pasadena, California. 

He said the 10-13 billion year age of The Accident means it would have formed when our galaxy was much younger and had a different chemical makeup. 

'If that's the case, there are likely many more of these ancient brown dwarfs lurking in our galactic neighbourhood,' the researcher explained.

To find out why it had contradictory properties - some suggesting it was cold, others warmer - astronomers turned to the Keck Observatory in Hawaii. 

They used the telescope to observe the object in a wider range of wavelengths of light, particularly infrared, but it was so faint it couldn't be detected at all.

This confirmed the suggestion it was very cold, meaning that it was also likely old.  

They next set out to determine if the dimness resulted from The Accident being farther than expected from Earth. But that wasn't the case, according to precise distance measurements by NASA's Hubble and Spitzer Space Telescopes. 

Having determined the object's distance – about 50 light-years from Earth – the team realised that it is moving fast – about half a million miles per hour. 

That's much faster than all other brown dwarfs known to be at this distance from Earth, which means it has probably been careening around the galaxy for a long time, encountering massive objects that accelerate it with their gravity.

Known it was extremely old meant the unusual wavelength properties made more sense, according to the NASA-backed team.

A brown dwarf is a mysterious object that sits somewhere between a gas giant planet and a small star, but without the size to fuse hydrogen like a star would

Other elements, like carbon, formed inside stars; when the most massive stars exploded as supernovae, they scattered the elements throughout the galaxy.

Methane, composed of hydrogen and carbon, is common in most brown dwarfs that have a temperature similar to The Accident. 

But The Accident's light profile suggests it contains very little methane. 

Like all molecules, methane absorbs specific wavelengths of light, so a methane-rich brown dwarf would be dim in those wavelengths. 

The Accident, by contrast, is bright in those wavelengths, which could indicate low levels of methane.

Thus, the light profile of The Accident could match that of a very old brown dwarf that formed when the galaxy was still carbon poor - as very little carbon at formation means very little methane in its atmosphere today.

'It's not a surprise to find a brown dwarf this old, but it is a surprise to find one in our backyard,' said Federico Marocco, an astrophysicist at IPAC at Caltech who led the new observations using the Keck and Hubble telescopes. 

'We expected that brown dwarfs this old exist, but we also expected them to be incredibly rare. The chance of finding one so close to the solar system could be a lucky coincidence, or it tells us that they're more common than we thought.'

The program developed by Caselden, that led to the discovery of The Accident, attempted to remove the stationary infrared objects, like distant stars, from the data, and highlight moving objects similar to known brown dwarfs. 

He was looking at one such brown dwarf candidate when he spotted The Accident, which was a much fainter object moving quickly across the screen. 

It hadn't been highlighted because it did not match the program’s profile of a brown dwarf. Caselden caught it by accident.

'This discovery is telling us that there’s more variety in brown dwarf compositions than we've seen so far,' said Kirkpatrick. 'There are likely more weird ones out there, and we need to think about how to look for them.'

The findings have been published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.  

BROWN DWARF: AT LEAST 13 TIMES LARGER THAN JUPITER BUT NOT LARGE ENOUGH TO START FUSION 

Brown dwarfs are thought to be the missing link between planets and stars, with masses between 13 and 80 times that of Jupiter. 

But their centres are not hot or dense enough to generate energy through nuclear fusion, from hydrogen into helium, the way main sequence stars do.

While they can't sustain traditional fusion, unlike a giant plant, they are able to fuse a heavy isotope of hydrogen, called deuterium, into helium.  

It is thought that a galaxy the size of the Milky Way could have as many as 100 billion brown dwarf stars, with many wandering in interstellar space.

Self-luminous objects, like stars, are given a letter category based on their surface temperature - with 0 the brightest and hottest, going through B, A, F, G, K and on to, M the coolest of Main Sequence Stars.

Astronomers also added L, T and Y for Red Dwarf and Brown Dwarf type stars, as well as a range of other classifications for unusual star types.

Over the course of their life, a brown dwarf star will go through M, L, T and Y as they don't go through stable fusion, so cool down over time.

To the naked eye they would appear a variety of different colours depending on the stage they are at in their evolution.

The warmest could appear orange or red and the coolest magenta, and could have layers like Jupiter or be uniform in appearance.

One very peculiar brown dwarf is unlike anything astronomers have ever seen. In fact, it was discovered completely by chance and that’s why it has been nicknamed “The Accident” (its official name is WISEA J153429.75-104303.3). Brown dwarfs are too large to be a planet but too small to be a star – basically, they have a mass that’s in between giant planets (like Jupiter and Saturn) and stars.

The brown dwarf was found by Dan Caselden – a citizen scientist who was looking through data collected by NASA’s Near-Earth Object Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (NEOWISE). In his own program that he created, Caselden eliminated all stationary objects that sent off infrared light such as stars. He then focused on moving objects that could possibly be brown dwarfs. While focusing on one object in particular, he realized that it was in fact a brown dwarf but what he found was much more incredible as it was completely unique from other brown dwarfs which was why the program didn’t initially find it.

“The Accident” is incredibly odd as it appeared faint in some wavelengths (meaning that it was extremely cold and old), but showed up bright in other wavelengths (suggesting it was much hotter). According to the paper, the researchers believe that the reason why it appeared faint in some wavelengths and brighter in others is because it has barely any methane which indicates that it was created when our Milky Way Galaxy was in its very young stages and had very little carbon (methane consists of hydrogen and carbon).

That is why experts believe that “The Accident” is between 10 and 13 billion years old. For comparison, other brown dwarfs that have been discovered are about half that age. Furthermore, our galaxy is approximately 13.6 billion years old with our Solar System being about 4.5 billion years in age.

With help from NASA’s Hubble and Spitzer Space Telescopes, experts were able to determine that the brown dwarf is located about 50 light-years away from our planet and moving extremely fast at nearly 500,000 miles per hour (800,000 kilometers per hour). This is much faster than other brown dwarfs located about the same distance away from us. “This object defied all our expectations,” stated Davy Kirkpatrick who is an astrophysicist at IPAC at Caltech in Pasadena, California. In a recent tweet, NASA announced that 40 newly identified exoplanets have been added to the confirmed list. This brings the total of confirmed exoplanets to a whopping 4,512. The majority of the newfound planets – 37 of the 40 – were detected by the Kepler space telescope. Even though the mission ended in 2018, scientists are still finding valuable information in its data like the dozens of new exoplanets.

In addition to the 4,512 confirmed exoplanets, experts have located 3,344 planetary systems. Furthermore, there could be many more exoplanets as there are still 7,721 that are considered candidates. This is absolutely astonishing considering that the first two exoplanets – PSR B1257+12 c and PSR B1257+12 d – were only discovered back in 1992.

The first transiting exoplanet (a world that passes in front of its host star that causes it to dim; therefore allowing scientists here on Earth to detect it) was discovered in 1999 when a planet crossed in front of a star named HD 209458 in the constellation Pegasus (the planet was named HD 209458 b).

Scientists are especially interested in exoplanets that are located in the “habitable zone” of their systems where they could potentially host life. For example, there are three planets orbiting a star called TOI-700 (the planets are referred to as b, c, and d) with planet “d” being located in the habitable zone and is approximately the same size as Earth. And a recent study has suggested that “Hycean” planets could possibly support life. These planets could be hot, have tons of water, and have hydrogen-rich atmospheres. Furthermore, there is a wider range for where they can be located in their systems for them to maybe host life.

But probably the most famous exoplanet is the one that is the closest to us – Proxima Centauri b. This planet, which is located just 4 light-years away from Earth, is 1.27 times the size of our planet and was discovered in 2016.

As for the exoplanets that were most recently added to the confirmed list, there is one that’s called TOI-251 b that has about the same mass as Jupiter; has an orbital period of 4.9 days; and is located 325 light-years away.

Another interesting discovery involved six planets that are orbiting a star called TOI-178 (these planets are referred to as b, c, d, e, f, and g). These planets have a wide range of sizes from 1.1 times to 3 times larger than Earth with different densities from being a rocky super-Earth to a gassy mini-Neptune.

With a jaw-dropping 4,512 exoplanets discovered so far and more than 7,700 candidates, it’s amazing to think that so many planets are in the universe. Now if we could confirm if any of them have life… A full list of all 4,512 exoplanets can be viewed here.

Some places seem to draw UFO phenomena to them for reasons we may never understand. These places have some unseen quality that makes such forces gravitate towards them, and one such place lies out in the Pacific Ocean. The Solomon Islands consists of six major islands and over 900 smaller islands, islets, and atolls, and is located in Oceania to the east of Papua New Guinea. The region has a long history of human habitation, with the first settlers arriving between 30,000 and 28,800 BC, and it is also notable for seeing some of the fiercest fighting in the Pacific during World War II. The islands are also known for political unrest and its natural beauty, but lesser known are some of the very strange phenomena that goes on here, including very menacing and dangerous UFOs that seem to congregate here.

One old legend of the Solomon Islands is that of a flying reptilian beast ominously known as the “Dragon Snake,” said to be somewhat like a stingray in shape, with greenish-brown skin, a long tail with flukes red eyes sometimes described as glowing. On many occasions they are described as being somewhat bioluminescent, with their bodies giving off an eerie glow. More fantastical tales tell of the creatures spitting fire, and of attacking people or whisking them off to vanish. The creatures are mostly said to inhabit caves in the thickly forested mountainous interior, only coming out at night to feed, when they prefer to prowl about the coastal areas, where they are known to often attack boats. Due to their ability to glow, the creatures are often seen as just lights in the sky, zipping about and hovering as they go about their business. While mostly known by the local population, the creatures are seen by outsiders as well. One notable example is an ex- former RAAF engineer by the name of Marius Boirayon, bought a house in Cape Esperance and quickly became familiar with the local lore and legends. One of these being the stories of the Dragon Snake, which he heard from a local named Joseph, and which he first dismissed as myth until the night he saw one for himself shortly after moving in. In an article for Nexus Magazine, he would say of this experience:

I had become quite an enthusiastic fisherman with my fishing rod, and had been pulling scores of beautiful reef fish. Joseph was renowned by all in the village as being the best spear fisherman. One time he decided to do some night spear fishing, as it was easy to do at night by torchlight. So I decided that while Joseph was spear fishing, I would throw some lines in and see what kind of fish I caught. I was cleaning fish with Ci-Ci, another good friend of mine, when Joseph came out of the water with his dugout canoe full of fish to add to our already large pile. While we were inspecting his catch, Joseph suddenly shouted for our attention: “There! There! There! The Dragon Snake! The Dragon Snake!” He was pointing to the right, down the beach. As I looked down the beach, I couldn’t believe what I seeing. About a kilometer away there was a very bright, luminous, white object flying slowly over the water.

I remember asking myself whether I was really seeing it. I called out for my wife Miriam to bring my binoculars. After focusing in on the star like, brilliantly lit object, I noticed that it was about 60-foot round and seemed to make no noise. We watched it for a couple of minutes until it submerged itself into the sea. Joseph told me to wait about 10 minutes and I’d see it come back out again—which it did! When it came back out of the water, it was glowing twice as brightly as when it went in. We continued to watch it with my binoculars as it returned to the coast in the direction whence it had come and until it disappeared out of sight over the top of the coconut trees. Somewhat startled by this experience, we went back into the house and sat talking about this “Dragon Snake” until the early hours of the morning. They told me that if you didn’t see it one night, you were quite likely to see it the next. They were right. In fact, over a seven-month period, I lost count of these sightings when they reached the 60 mark.

Although the indigenous people of the islands had long spoken of the Dragon Snake as a living flying creature, Boirayon had a different hypothesis. To him, these were UFOs that the locals, who had no idea of spaceships and extraterrestrials, had explained away into simple terms they could understand. In his hypothesis, these were possible alien craft, and that the fire-spitting was actually beams being emitted by them. Through extensive interviews with the locals it would also dawn on Boirayon that these objects were decidedly malevolent, being blamed on missing people and with many stories of attacking and incinerating people. He would say of his attempts to explain these ideas to the locals and his thoughts on the UFO connection:

While we sat talking about this object, I explained the structure of the Universe to Joseph. I showed them my copy of a Time–Life book called The Universe, with its space-type pictures, and said that these so-called “Dragon Snakes” are what white men call “Unidentified Flying Objects”. They were absolutely amazed, as they had spent their whole life fearing this thing with superstition and having no real understanding of it. Yet, for that matter, I was also a little fearful. This first sighting had completely changed my mind about the existence of extraterrestrials, and a little investigation revealed that this so-called Dragon Snake had been in the area for well over a century. I realistically began thinking in terms of extraterrestrials inhabiting our planet.

My extensive investigation into the presence of extraterrestrials on Guadalcanal and Malaita has revealed that these supposedly “hidden to the eye” aliens have displayed unacceptable and unfriendly behavior towards the Guadalcanal and Malaita people; indeed, there have been several outright abductions and murders. Because of this, they can’t be considered friendly. For example, the grandfather of a good friend of mine was incinerated by one of these UFOs around the early 1900s. Several independent sources have verified this. Countless horrific stories can be heard throughout these islands. I made my way to the two chiefs and respectfully introduced myself. As we were talking, I brought up the topic of the Dragon Snake. My suspicions were right: the chiefs knew a lot about it. One of the chief’s brothers had been killed by it when he was only a little boy. They told me several stories of deaths and abductions, all of which confirmed to me that these UFOs are definitely not friendly. They may be friendly in other places in the world, but certainly not here.

The threatening manner of these objects would become a recurring theme in his writing, featuring heavily in many reports. Things would get even weirder still when he began to realize that the supposed lairs of the “Dragon Snake” were likely some sort of underground UFO bases from which the craft were operating from in the region. In order to investigate this theory, he purchased a topographical map of northwest Guadalcanal Island and began questioning locals on where the Dragon Snake’s “home” was. In the meantime, his friend Joseph told him excitedly that a local fisherman had been attacked by a Dragon Snake at a nearby village and was in the hospital with severe burns to much of his body. Seeing this as a chance to find out more information, Boirayon headed to the hospital with Joseph to talk with the man. He says of what happened:

Following some enquiries as to where the fisherman was, we arrived at his bedside. He was covered in bandages from head to toe and was in a great deal of pain, but doped up with pethidine. Joseph began to speak with him in the Guadalcanal language to try to find out exactly what had happened to him. He had been out fishing in his fiberglass boat at about 3.00 am, when he saw the Dragon Snake flying along. In foolishness, he started flashing his torch at it. That was when it flew over to him in an instant and hovered overhead. Panicking, he started the motor and took off to get away from the Dragon Snake, but it followed him as he “zigzagged” his way back to shore. It was during this short pursuit to the beach that it fired some form of light at him but it only partially hit him. A later inspection of his 19-foot fiberglass boat showed traces of scorching upon some of the boat’s interior paint. He said that when he drove his boat up the beach and ran into the bush, the Dragon Snake followed him to where he was hiding behind a tree and hovered above. When he moved around to the other side of the tree, it also went around to the other side. It was then that he literally got down on his knees and began to pray to God with his hands clasped in front of him. With that, the Dragon Snake moved on. After that, he stumbled his way back to his village and was taken to hospital.

As he researched more into the phenomenon, Boirayon not only deduced a promising location for where the UFO base might be located, but he also found that the sightings of these objects seemed to mysteriously congregate towards an area of the coast where there had been a huge battle during World War II. He made several more sightings of UFOs in this area, also noting that the craft seemed to have the ability to vanish into thin air or cloak themselves. He would say of this:

I had initially only gone to the Solomons to enjoy an early, youthful retirement and certainly had not expected to be chasing UFOs. But as a former military man, I couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that this UFO was continually coming and going near ships that had been involved in a great battle where thousands of men had lost their lives in the cause of freedom. It seemed as if this UFO was robbing graves. This weighed heavily on my mind for weeks. One night, though, while I was sitting fishing, my indecision changed. I had been watching the UFO submerge into the sea near the wreck of the USS Chicago and then surface again shining more brightly. I had my binoculars fixed well on it when I saw the lights of a ship that was travelling toward my direction. From the trigonometric perspective, the UFO couldn’t see the ship because of the point that was shielding its view. However, I had both the UFO and the ship in my field of view. After about 30 seconds, when the UFO did see the ship it instantly vanished. The UFO didn’t seem to go anywhere; it simply vanished as if it had turned off its lights.

I took my binoculars from my eyes. I was not sure if the craft had instantly accelerated or had somehow cloaked itself. Yet it seemed that the UFO didn’t mind the indigenous people seeing it, but it did mind when someone saw it who would possibly know of its real identity. My subsequent investigation into the UFO’s ability to cloak itself revealed that this characteristic was commonly known by all within the area and had become part of the superstition about the Dragon Snake. There are just too many stories about the Dragon Snake’s sudden “disappearance” to discuss here.

He continued his investigation into the phenomenon, finding that there were many places around the Solomon Islands that seemed to be “bases” for these UFOs, including a mountain he called “Mount Dragon,” and a mysterious reef located off the island of Malaita, and others, of which he says:

There is a 50-meter-diameter, bottomless circular reef in amongst the surrounding 10-meter-deep coral reef a few miles north of Kwoi Island (which is on the border of the Kwaio and Kwara’ae tribes) and south of Namo’ere’ere in central east Malaita. Singalanggu Harbour is slightly further south. UFOs can be seen going in and out of that reef virtually every night. My friends like fishing down this UFO hole during the daytime because it saves them from having to go out into the danger of the ocean and because there’s a plentiful supply of big ocean-type fish that can be caught in its depths. They have let down over 200 meters of 100-pound line and still haven’t been able to hit the bottom. I always think of this hole as having been made by a huge spaceship that hovered above it and shot a big laser into the crust of the Earth, for whatever reason! On mainland Malaita, about three to four miles directly inland from that circular reef entrance is a lake which has two connected entrances/exits. When the boys are out fishing at night, they see the UFOs going in one entrance and coming out the other. A UFO coming out of this lake at dusk incinerated my good friend’s grandfather, and everyone in the area knows about it. The aliens have instilled fear in these people for generations, and many people have gone missing.

In the Kwaio and Kwara’re areas, there are three entrances in their jungle mountains that I know of where these “ball of light”–type UFO vehicles can be seen entering and exiting. It is my belief that these entrances are not individual bases but are all connected, making up one big UFO base under the island. I may be wrong, but I also believe that one of the many reasons why they are there is that, for reasons of their own, they are mining a very rare type of gemstone under this kimberlitic rock volcanic island. The gemstones which my wife’s relatives possess have a far higher specific gravity than that of diamonds, and a refractive index such that when you put the stone in light you see your mirror image in the centre of the stone.

What is going on out there in the Solomon Islands? Why should these forces be drawn here? Why are they so incredibly aggressive and menacing? It is unknown. It is all a pretty strange case of a mostly forgotten little corner of UFO strangeness, melding local lore with UFOs, and we can only wait and see what becomes of all of this.

When we think of UFOs during the Second World War, more often than not, it will likely provoke images of the Foo Fighters. They were small, fast-moving, ball-like, illuminated “things” seen in the sky and mostly during battle and confrontation over Europe. The creations of the Allies? The Nazis? The questions still exist. And, it’s most unlikely that we’ll ever get the complete answers to the Foo Fighter issue. What’s even less well-known, though, are the reports of UFO activity during the Second World War that had nothing to do with the Foo Fighters. In other words, today’s article is on claims of Flying Saucers seen – and allegedly examined by scientists – during the Second World War. I should stress that the story I’m sharing with you today has nothing to do with the extremely dubious stories of “Nazi UFOs” that certain figures have promoted for disturbing, political reasons. Rather, we’re talking about an American journalist, dead aliens and more. With that said, let’s move on.

May 22, 1955 was the date on which a well-respected journalist, Dorothy Kilgallen, put together an account for the American press. The story, that surfaced while Kilgallen was on vacation in the U.K. at the time, read as follows: “I can report today on a story which is positively spooky, not to mention chilling. British scientists and airmen, after examining the wreckage of one mysterious flying ship, are convinced these strange aerial objects are not optical illusions or Soviet inventions, but are flying saucers which originate on another planet. The source of my information is a British official of cabinet rank who prefers to remain unidentified.” One of Kilgallen’s informants for the tale was suspected of having been Gordon Creighton. For a long time, he was the editor of the Flying Saucer Review magazine. Timothy Good, author of a 1987 book, Above Top Secret, knew Creighton. Good followed the Kilgallen story, saying that it “…was alleged to have taken place during a cocktail party  given by Lord Mountbatten, but I have been unable to substantiate this with Mollie Travis, Mountbatten’s private secretary at the time.”

And who was Lord Mountbatten? Read on: “As with many royal relatives, Louis Mountbatten was related to both Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth. A great-grandson of Queen Victoria, he was a distant cousin of the Queen’s as well as Prince Philip’s uncle. Philip’s mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, was Louis’s sister. Philip also lived with the Mountbattens for several years following his mother’s institutionalization… In August of 1979, Lord Mountbatten was killed at age 79 in a terrorist attack by the Irish Republican Army. His fishing boat, named Shadow V, was blown up off the coast of the Republic of Ireland by a bomb that had been smuggled aboard.” Now, back to the story/yarn of the crashed UFO. Dorothy Kilgallen’s primary source for the story – believed to have been Mountbatten, himself – quietly told her these words: “We believe, on the basis of our inquiry thus far, that the saucers were staffed by small men – probably under four feet tall. It’s frightening, but there’s no denying the flying saucers come from another planet.” Kilgallen, recognizing that she had an amazing story on her hands, had more to say: “This official quoted scientists as saying a flying ship of this type could not have possibly been constructed on Earth. The British Government, I learned, is withholding an official report on the ‘flying saucer’ examination at this time, possibly because it does not wish to frighten the public. When my husband and I arrived here from a brief vacation, I had no premonition that I would be catapulting myself into the controversy over whether flying saucers are real or imaginary.”

For years, that was where the story pretty much began and ended. However, over the years tales have circulated to the effect that the UFO crash had nothing to do with Roswell (as some have suggested), but everything to do with a Flying Saucer crash somewhere on the U.K. – and, as a result, the Americans and the Brits secretly created a project to study the wrecked craft and dead bodies that reportedly fell into their laps. I’ve heard rumors that during the Second World War, the remains of the dead aliens from the crash were, from 1944 to 1953, held deep in a bunker in the London Underground. Another story (or, more correctly, another rumor) suggests everything was flown over to the United States, along with a team of U.K. scientists. The tales are fascinating. Try proving it all, though. True or not, the story is still an intriguing one. And if there is any truth to it all, then it adds another weird story to strange, UFO-themed activity encountered during the Second World War.

Strange Glowing ‘Alien’ UFO Leaving Fiery Trail In Sky Has Area Residents ‘Flummoxed’

• A strange glowing red UFO was filmed in the sky recently above Kent, a southeastern England county.
• The object was seen by multiple witnesses and local residents, after conducting some research, they struggled to determine exactly what it was.

Things seem to have slowed down a bit on the UFO front of late. Perhaps it is because the aliens have all the data they need after unleashing a pandemic upon the planet to gauge our reactions. (I am guessing that we didn’t score very well.)

That doesn’t mean that “something” isn’t always still out there though, as a recent UFO sighting filmed in Kent, England certainly proves.

In video footage posted to Twitter by area resident Steve Sangster of Orpington, Greater London, a round, glowing red object appears in the night, leaving a fiery trail as it zoomed through the sky.

Kent Live reports, “Some people who have seen the video claim it must be aliens, while other suggestions range from a plane on fire to a sophisticated firework.”

The footage of the glowing UFO, posted on Twitter by Sangster this past Saturday night at 8:54 p.m., shows what at first glance appears to be nothing more than some sort of firework being set off in the sky.

However, instead of dissipating as a firework would, the glowing orb only intensified in brightness.

“I had the telescope out because there was a beautiful moon and I was waiting for it come come up,” Sangster explained.

“I could see out of the corner of my eye a sparkling object, which I initially thought was a shooting star.

“I shared it on Twitter to see if anyone had any good ideas as to what it could be.”

One of his followers suggested that the glowing UFO may have been something like one of the Team AeroSparx Motorglider Aerobatics planes in flight.

Unfortunately, after doing some investigation, Kent Live reports that Sangster was unable to find any events in the area that would have matched up with what he saw.

“There has been a great deal of interest and a lot of people think it could be aliens visiting,” he said.

“There was also a person who has written an extraterrestrial book and he’s keen to examine the video in more detail.

“I looked at local events in the area, which also included Brands Hatch, but I couldn’t see anything due to take place that evening.”

After not finding anything concrete to explain what he saw in the sky, other than it being an alien UFO, Sangster said, “It must have been some sort of plane, whether it was in difficulties or whether it was just practicing,” he added.

“It’s just bizarre that no one has got any idea or has come forward with any credible explanation.”

Maybe. Maybe not. Or, maybe that’s just what those pulling our strings want us to think.

On September 3, 2021, the live cam of the International Space Station captured a series of unknown bright objects moving through space. 

The moving objects are not city lights as they were seen from ISS when the ISS was above the ocean between South Sandwich Islands and South Africa. 

They all follow a fixed trajectory and fly at different speeds, it seems most of them come from one location. 

On July 6, 2021 a similar event took place when the ISS live feed captured hundreds of unknown bright objects moving through space. 

Since the most of these unknown lights captured on July 6, 2021 as well as on September 3, 2021 are following the same path we may wonder whether they all come from the same unknown source in space.

In this footage we can see that three of these UFO orbs starts of in a straight line and then they begin to rotate into the classic triangle formation before being joined by a fourth to with this one stay for a short moment and then takes off...

Perseverance Cores Its First Martian Rock, NASA Says

The initial images captured by the Mastcam-Z instrument onboard NASA’s Perseverance rover show an intact Mars sample present in a sample tube after coring.

The September 1 coring is the second time that Perseverance has employed its Sampling and Caching System since landing in Jezero Crater on February 18, 2021.

“Perseverance’s Sampling and Caching System uses a rotary-percussive drill and a hollow coring bit at the end of its 2-m-long robotic arm to extract samples slightly thicker than a pencil,” said Dr. Jennifer Trosper, project manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and colleagues.

“Within the bit during coring is a sample tube.”

“After completing yesterday’s coring, Perseverance maneuvered the corer, bit, and open end of the sample tube in order to be imaged by the rover’s Mastcam-Z instrument.”

“The target for the sample collection attempt was a briefcase-size rock belonging to a ridgeline that is more than 900 m long and contains rock outcrops and boulders.”

The initial set of images from Mastcam-Z showed the end of a cored rock within the sample tube.

After taking these images, Perseverance began a procedure called ‘percuss to ingest,’ which vibrates the drill bit and tube for one second, five separate times. The movement is designed to clear the lip of the sample tube of any residual material.

The action can also cause a sample to slide down farther into the tube.

After the rover finished the percuss-to-ingest procedure, it took a second set of Mastcam-Z images.

In these images, the lighting is poor, and internal portions of the sample tube are not visible.

“The project got its first cored rock under its belt, and that’s a phenomenal accomplishment,” Dr. Trosper said.

“We determined a location, and selected and cored a viable and scientifically valuable rock. We did what we came to do.”

“We will work through this small hiccup with the lighting conditions in the images and remain encouraged that there is sample in this tube.”

Expert claims time-travelling humans are flying UFOs

Dr. Michael Masters has suggested that UFOs are piloted by time-travelling humans returning from the future to explore the modern world.

UFOs could be piloted by time-travelling humans, an expert has claimed.

Dr. Michael Masters, a professor of anthropology at the Montana Tech University in the United States, has claimed that decades of sightings and apparent abductions are actually our descendants coming back to visit Earth.

Masters has presented the hypothesis in his book 'Identified Flying Object' as suggested abductions could be researchers from the future coming back in time to investigate, or simply for tourism.

He said: "The alleged abduction accounts are mostly scientific in nature. It's probably future anthropologists, historians, linguists that are coming back to get information in a way that we currently can't without access to that technology.

"That said, I do think that some component of it is also tourism.

"Undoubtedly in the future, there are those that will pay a lot of money to have the opportunity to go back and observe their favourite period in history."

Robert Hampson was at a friend's house in the Merchant City last night and had gone outside for some fresh air after midnight when he said they "saw something really bright in the sky".

A Glasgow student has shared a number of images and video footage of a 'UFO' he believes he saw floating in the night sky above the city.

Robert Hampson was at a friend's house in the Merchant City last night and had gone outside for some fresh air after midnight when he said they "saw something really bright in the sky".

The film production student and full time musician quickly grabbed his phone along with his friend Jake to record and take pictures of the unexplained object, which he said "looked like some sort of portal of a UFO".

Robert believes that the object was hovering for about an hour and "then it just disappeared".

He told Glasgow Live: "Me and my friend were outside last night and caught an unexplainable object floating in the sky in Glasgow.

"It happened at my friend's house in the Merchant City. We basically went out for some fresh air and we seen something really bright in the sky. We started to record it and take pictures of it and it looked like some sort of portal of a UFO.

"It was probably hovering for about an hour and then just disappeared."

The sighting comes after Glasgow and the surrounding area was named as a 'UFO hotspot' after a number of unexplained sightings in 2020.

In total there were five unusual incidents recorded in the skies above the city, according to data from The North West UFO Group - which gathers info on all UFO activity reported to specialist 'alien' investigation organisations in the UK.

During an international airshow in Thamesford, Ontario Canada, an extremely fast unidentified flying object passes the fighter jets.

One curious corner of the UFO phenomenon is not what goes on up in our skies, but rather what seems to be going on beneath the seas of our world. Called Unidentified Submersible Objects, or USOs, these are those unidentified objects seen whizzing and zipping about beneath the waves of our oceans and lakes, and while they are rarer than traditional airborne UFOs, they are a curious subspecies of a larger phenomenon. Seeing as these strange underseas craft are supposedly roaming about our waters, it seems only reasonable to assume that Navies have at some point encountered them, and this is true. Indeed, such encounters constitute some of the more believable of reports, with various reliable witnesses with nothing to gain from lying coming forth with such stories. And so here we delve into some strange and often harrowing encounters between military forces and strange underwater forces we may never understand.

In 1966 there was a rather strange series of events seen from the Navy submarine the USS Tiru SS-416. The sub had left Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii, and was on its way to Seattle, Washington, where it was to be docked for several days before being moved to a bay in order to carry out some torpedo exercises. During the journey towards Seattle, on one afternoon the lookout reported something strange in the sky about 2 miles distant, and he called others to come check it out even as the radar station began to pick up an anomalous contact. One of the witnesses, a crew member named Jim Speiser, would tell of what happened to UFO Casebook:

The lookout refused to tell the OOD what it was that he had seen and instead insisted that the starboard lookout and the OOD both look at that area. The three men looked through their binoculars toward the area reported and were astounded to see a metal craft larger than a football field tumble from the clouds into the ocean. It actually tumbled end over end and when it hit the water and sank beneath the ocean huge geysers of water rose into the air. When the port lookout was sure that the others had seen it he then told the OOD that he had seen it tumble from the ocean up into the clouds. The OOD and the starboard lookout were speechless. Within a few minutes, however, they all became excited when it again rose from the water and tumbled up into the cloud layer.

At about the same time a crew member below queried the bridge about a radar contact at the same range and bearing. Sonar also reported strange echos. The OOD called for the Captain to come to the bridge at that time. At about the same time the object emerged from the clouds and fell down into the ocean. All five men witnessed this. The QMC took pictures as it rose up into the clouds and then back down into the ocean once again.The five men watched for quite a while longer but nothing else happened. Soon the sub had moved out of visual range and the Captain told all witnesses that they were never to discuss what they had seen with anyone under any circumstances. He stated that the incident was classified information. The Captain then went below and sent a radio msg. There was no doubt as to what we had seen. It was a metal craft with machinery on and around the outside of it. It appeared to have windows or lenses placed around its perimeter. It made no noise that we could hear. It did not disturb the subs electrical systems nor did it affect the gyro compass. It looked very much like a round flying “ship” as in sea going ship. It had the shape and form of a saucer with a bowl inverted in the saucer and it was huge. I will never forget it as long as I live.

After this the sub managed to reach its destination without further incident, and none of the multiple witnesses have any explanation for what they saw out there. Another such incident happened 1991, off the west coast of South America. The case, which I have reported on before and was reported to the files of the site UFO Casebook, comes from a witness who claims that at the time he had been an operations and intelligence petty officer serving aboard the Knox-class destroyer escort the USS Kirk FF1087, and that they had been part of a drug interdiction force, which consisted of the USS Kirk and three other Naval vessels. Their primary mission was to patrol using a network of radar to track and then intercept drug-running aircraft flying out of Columbia, Panama and Guatemala, as well as to engage any smuggling ships they were able to find. The witness says that his primary duties took place within the CIC, or the Combat Information Center, which he and 22 other specialists manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with them rotating between two 11-man shifts.

The witness claims that he was on CIC duty at 2 a.m. on the morning of December 16, and it was a quiet night with nothing going on. He says he took a break to go up to the ship’s bridge, and at the time the entire vessel was in a state called “darkened ship,” with all of the exterior lights turned off, as well as those on the bridge, meaning the area was only faintly illuminated by instrument panels. He began talking casually with the officer of the deck, and this is when things would suddenly get weird. He says:

All of a sudden and out of nowhere, like a huge flash from a camera, emanating from the starboard bow sea level upward was a huge flash of red glowing light, which lit up our entire ship. It only lit up our ship, not the surrounding ocean, just our ship. It happened so fast, that the OOD, the navigator and I were speechless for about 5 seconds, at which time I looked at the OOD and asked him if he just saw that light. He stated yes in a sullen voice. I then asked the navigator and he replied yes. I then took the navigator’s sound powered headset, and asked the forward and aft look outs, if they had just seen the same red flash, to which the forward look out stated, “YES! WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?” Aft lookout said yes as well. I then immediately contacted CIC, and asked the CIC officer if we had any aircraft or surface ships in our vicinity, to which he replied clear as a whistle. I asked if we had any submarine activity in the area, to which he replied, no.

What had just happened did not make any sense. The flash emanated from the sea, directly off of our starboard bow (like it was touching our bow), and ascended upwardly so rapidly, creating the effect of the bright red flash. The other weird aspect of this event was that only our ship was lit up within the red flash, not the surrounding sea, but our vessel only. Up until this event, I did not believe in UFOs or USOs. I have no doubt that our ship, steaming along at 12 knots, came right up on a submerged unidentifiable aircraft. I don’t think the aircraft or USO had any idea we were sailing up to them. I think whatever it was, took off in a very unplanned and fast manner, and wanted to quickly identify us, thus the flash.

In the end, after much consideration they decided not to wake the captain, merely logging it as an “unexplained phenomenon.” Another Naval submarine encounter supposedly occurred in October of 1989, aboard the USS Memphis. On October 24 of that year, the sub was on an assignment to secure the shuttle launch pad in Florida, patrolling about 150 miles off the coast when something very large was picked up on sonar approaching them at a fast pace. As it did, apparently the instrumentation on the submarine and operations on the ship in general went absolutely haywire, and the witness would say of this:

The ship was malfunctioning, our tanks were blowing out of control, we were losing navigation ability and the communications area was totally lost. We went to all stop and tried to access what was happening. The controls in the reactor area started to malfunction. This presented a serious danger to our safety, so the captain ordered us to shut down the reactor, surface and go to diesel motors. When the ship surfaced I went to my watch station. The ship was still experiencing electronic difficulties but the mechanical devices such as diesel engines, cook stoves, and turbines were fine.

USS Memphis

The ordeal wasn’t over for them, because whatever had caused the disturbance then emerged from the water, an inverted V-shaped craft of some kind, and it was described as absolutely massive. The witness would say of what happened next:

This huge vessel was over a half mile across. The UFO made a half circle around our ship then passed across the stern causing our electronics systems to go crazy. We had permanent damage in communications and the sonar room. As the craft flew over the stern, I could see the rain stop under its red glow. The water seemed to rise almost a foot as the UFO passed over silently. When the UFO finished its swing across the stern it paused – the sky got brighter red and it simply moved off at tremendous speed inside 15 seconds. When the UFO left, our boat returned to normal with the exception of the radio and sonar. We did a quick system check and the captain ordered us to return to reactor power and get underway. The captain took two petty officers, the executive officer, and myself into the wardroom. He told us to not spread any rumors until we had a chance to talk to Commander Submarine Fleet – Atlantic. We reached port in about 7 hours where I was taken into “protective custody.” Two enlisted men and myself agreed we had witnessed a real UFO. I was the one who shot it with a laser range finder, so I was the only one that had its exact sizes. I shot that vessel as it hovered and I got solid readings, not spotty like I would on debris. We were in holding for about three hours when an officer from the Air Force arrived and gave us a line of bull about an exploding weather satellite. The Navy then transferred virtually everyone on the crew to new assignments. This included the captain, the executive officer and the entire crew. They were split up which almost never happens unless one of them gets a promotion or a new command, neither of which happened.

More recently there was a report from E-4 Petty Officer John Baughman, who was stationed onboard the USS Carl Vinson, a Nimitz-class supercarrier, in 2010. At the time, the ship was off the coast of Haiti delivering humanitarian aid to the region, which had just suffered a catastrophic earthquake. On this day, he was taking break and sitting on the SAM Launcher Deck, just looking out across the water, something he often did and during which time he’d see “everything from sharks, dolphins and whales to giant squids, sea turtles, and swordfish,” but on this occasion he’ see something altogether stranger. He would say of what happened and his thoughts on the matter:

I was staring into the water from above when a large, fat, white ‘Tic Tac’ object, approximately twenty feet in length, suddenly appeared in my view below me, moving right and darted into the depths as fast as it appeared. I had a pretty good reference point on how big or deep something was in the water, especially when you can see the water line on the side of the ship. I couldn’t really comprehend what I saw. It was definitely a solid object, but when it descended, its forward end rapidly collapsed in on itself and disappeared. It’s hard to come to grips with something like this, and I still feel somewhat insecure about it because it doesn’t make sense. It could have been just about anything. Rapidly moving flotsam with a keen ability to completely disappear, very large albino shark or an albino whale. Could even be an optical illusion, but it cast its own shadow and that’s how I was able to perceive it as a solid object. But at the same time, more data points, even as basic as my story, could help solve the mystery of whether they’re foreign adversaries playing mind games, non-human entities, or the myriad of other possibilities.

What was this thing? When he reported it to his superior, it was apparently just brushed off and not taken very seriously. What did Baughman really see out there? Who knows? Some interesting cases of USOs have been reported by personnel within the US Navy as well, from which there has been footage released showing UFOs entering the water. Chief among the proposed evidence for this is a video taken off the coast of San Diego in July of 2019 by crew aboard the USS Omaha. The video, which was released by UFO researcher and investigative filmmaker Jeremy Corbell, shows a spherical object fly over the vessel before coming down to make a controlled descent into the water, with a crewmember heard to exclaim “Wow, it splashed!” You can see a report with the footage here. The video caused quite a stir online, but it would become even more interesting when Corbell claimed that a Navy sub had been sent to find the object but came up empty-handed, and information would come out that at around the same time that US submarines had also been picking up other mysterious and anomalous objects underwater in the area that seemed to defy physics as we know them. The Navy confirmed that the footage was authentic and unexplained, and the Washington Examiner’s Tom Rogan has said of this in connection with the USS Omaha footage:

Relevant to this video, an area we will learn more about is the interaction between US Navy submarines – nuclear ballistic submarines and attack submarines – picking up sonar contact of things moving at hundreds of knots under the water. There is an undersea dimension to this, on top of what the pilots are seeing above water. Hundreds of knots under water? I don’t think people can even digest that. That is what I have heard from very good sources and that the US Navy has the data.

This was only one sighting among many UFOs also being seen in the area in a flurry strange activity, including fast-moving “tic-tac” UFO that was also filmed, a “flying pyramid” that was also caught on film, and others. Indeed, videos and photos of these events leaked and began doing heavy rounds online, to the point that the military had no choice but to address it all. One Pentagon spokesperson would say of it all:

I can confirm that the referenced photos and videos were taken by Navy personnel. The UAPTF has included these incidents in their ongoing examinations. As we have said before, to maintain operations security and to avoid disclosing information that may be useful to potential adversaries, DOD does not discuss publicly the details of either the observations or the examinations of reported incursions into our training ranges or designated airspace, including those incursions initially designated as UAP.

It seems that it is not only the Americans who have to deal with these underwater objects, as the Russian Navy also have several cases of this sort of thing going on. One case comes from a Vladimir Nikolayevich Chernavin, who is an alleged ex- Commander-in-Chief of the Soviet Navy. Among his many strange claims, such as that USOs had been harassing Russian subs since as far back as 1947 and that the objects were exploring underwater caves in Antarctica, he also claims that he had his own experience with one of these objects. Of which he says:

I saw this phenomenon, including when I was captain of the submarine during our time in the Atlantic and the Caribbean, I clearly saw a flying object over one of our Soviet positions appearing in various forms, but mainly in the form of a round hat. It was especially glowing, this light was changing, but the dish was moving at a tremendous speed, then it would stay hovering in one place and disappear immediately to appear in another place, and then dive into the water and disappear from view, and after a while it came out of the water but in another way, we were watching like this phenomenon, as I saw it, the extraordinary phenomena cannot be ignored.

British UFO investigator Philip Mantle has mentioned several such cases involving Soviet submarines in his book Russia’s USO Secrets, which is based on information coming from declassified documents and testimony from Russian military veterans. One such account comes from former nuclear submarine commander Yury Beketov, who says his submarine was doing maneuvers somewhere near the Bermuda Triangle when they had a strange encounter, of which he says:

We repeatedly observed that the instruments detected the movements of material objects at unimaginable speed, around 230 knots (400 km per hour). It’s hard to reach that speed on the surface – only in the air is it possible. The beings that created those material objects significantly exceed us in development.

A particular harrowing report mentioned in the book allegedly happened in 1951, when a Soviet submarine encountered a massive underwater object, which measured 200-250 meters long and was supposedly rising from the depths as it headed towards shore. According to the account, the captain actually ordered depth charges to be dropped on the object, which seemed to have no effect, but which nevertheless caused it to stop its ascent, change course, and head out to deeper water at great speed. What are we dealing with in cases like these, with such inscrutable objects that even the military is unable to deal with? How can we even begin to fathom the forces behind such encounters, or possibly understand the technology that must be involved to allow for what is being seen? In some cases these mysterious craft seem to defy the very laws of physics as we know them, with Lue Elizondo, former director of the Pentagon’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, saying of this:

Imagine a technology that can do 6-700 g-forces, which can fly at 13,000 miles per hour, which can evade radar and which can fly through air and water and eventually. in the space. And oh, by the way, has no obvious signs of propulsion, no wings, no control surfaces and yet can still defy the natural effects of Earth’s gravity. This is precisely what we are seeing.

The veracity of these reports seem to be sound, as we are dealing with seasoned Naval personnel who know the sea and what can be expected to be found out there. What are we dealing with here? What are these mysterious craft that seem to be taunting even heavily armed military vessels? Where are they from and what do they want? It remains unknown, but with the increasing admittance by the Navy that these things are really out there it really raises cause to wonder, and perhaps cause for concern. As most people blissfully go about their everyday lives, this stuff is happening, unexplained and evading understanding. what it all means perhaps time will tell.

On March 28, 1975, Senator Barry Goldwater wrote the following, highly thought-provoking, words to a UFO researcher named Shlomo Arnon: “The subject of UFOs is one that has interested me for some long time. About ten or twelve years ago I made an effort to find out what was in the building at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where the information is stored that has been collected by the Air Force, and I was understandably denied this request. It is still classified above Top Secret.” Goldwater continued to Arnon: “I have, however, heard that there is a plan under way to release some, if not all, of this material in the near future. I’m just as anxious to see this material as you are, and I hope we will not have to wait much longer.” Born in 1909, Barry Morris Goldwater served as a Major-General in the U.S. Air Force, a Senator for Arizona, the Chairman of the U.S. Government’s Senate Intelligence Committee, and the Republican Party’s nominee for President of the United States in the 1964 election. Indeed, it was on May 2, 1964, that Goldwater received no less than 75 percent of the vote in the Texas Republican Presidential primary. Moving onto the next case…

You may not be surprised to know that other senators have got into the UFO subject – and related phenomena, too. From January to March 1973, the state of Iowa was hit hard by cattle mutilations. Not only that, many of the ranchers who lost animals reported seeing strange lights and black-colored helicopters in the direct vicinity of the attacks. That the FBI took keen notice of all this is demonstrated by the fact that, as the Freedom of Information Act has shown, it collected and filed numerous media reports on the cattle-mutes in Iowa. The next piece of data dates from early September 1974. That’s when the FBI’s director, Clarence M. Kelley, was contacted by Senator Carl T. Curtis, who wished to inform the Bureau of a wave of baffling attacks on livestock in Nebraska – the state in which Curtis resided and represented. At the time, the FBI declined to get involved, as Director Kelley informed the senator: “”It appears that no Federal Law within the investigative jurisdiction of the FBI has been violated, inasmuch as there is no indication of interstate transportation of the maimed animals.” The mystery was never solved. Indeed, cattle mutilations continue.

One year later, in August 1975, Senator Floyd K. Haskell, of Colorado, made his voice known to the FBI, on the growing cattle mutilation controversy: “For several months my office has been receiving reports of cattle mutilations throughout Colorado and other western states. At least 130 cases in Colorado alone have been reported to local officials and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI); the CBI has verified that the incidents have occurred for the last two years in nine states. The ranchers and rural residents of Colorado are concerned and frightened by these incidents. The bizarre mutilations are frightening in themselves: in virtually all the cases, the left ear, rectum and sex organ of each animal has been cut away and the blood drained from the carcass, but with no traces of blood left on the ground and no footprints.” Now, onto the Rendlesham Forest “UFO landing” of 1980.

A well-respected Democrat, Jim Exon was the governor of Nebraska from 1971 to 1979, and the senator for Nebraska from 1979 to 1997. Jim Exon was also a key member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, specifically the chairman of the subcommittee. It was in the early months of 1985 that ufologist Ray Boeche decided to take his investigation of the Rendlesham Forest UFO case of December 1980 to the next level: namely, to seek help from Senator Exon. Ultimately, things didn’t go quite as well as Boeche had hoped for. There is no doubt at all, however, that the whole situation touched a highly sensitive nerve within the labyrinthine corridors of power. Boeche put out a notable feeler to the senator, as Boeche told me: ““We got him a copy of Sky Crash and Clear Intent. [The latter] contained six-pages of material on the case, and we sent those to Exon’s office. A copy of the Halt tape, too. And that started the entire thing.” On March 18, 1985, Exon wrote to Ray: “As you requested, I have asked the Air Force for their assistance. Please know that when I hear from them, I will be back in touch. I am still reviewing the two book you provided me, Mr. Boeche. I will return them when I have finished.” Ray received another response from Exon on April 2. Exon came straight to the point: “Frankly, I am not convinced that the incidents you are concerned with did, in fact, occur. Nor have I found any evidence of a cover-up by the government.” The story didn’t go much further.

I found an alien face carved into stone on the surface of mars. The face is in a Mars photo is on the far right center of the picture. The face is looking upwards and to the right. It has only one eye visible from this side but its side profile tells us a lot. The side cheek bones are thicker and wider than humans, the upper front cranium comes out further than ours. The eyes, nose, mouth, lips and chin are all similar in location on the face as our own. However this alien face looks far from being human. This face may be a maker similar to a tomb stone to mark the burial site of a person who died. The face is in remarkably good condition and is about 1 meter across from chin to top of head. The face looks to be thousands of years old. 

 

Now people will often say its the imagination playing tricks on you. That its not what it appears to be. Those people are inexperienced at this area and have zero experience in psychology unlike myself holding a masters decree in counseling education. So...I am 100% correct. Astonishing Human Heads: Do Satellite Photographs Now Prove Existence of Humans on Antarctica…6000 Years Ago? – Part I

Accurate geographical and cartographical information concerning the continent of Antarctica has only really been uncovered since AD 1822. However, in direct contradiction, ancient maps reveal Antarctica completely free of glaciation thousands of years beforehand.

According to experts in ancient cartography and oceanography, only a very advanced maritime culture exploring Antarctica after the end of the last Ice Age, 11000 years ago, could possibly have created such maps. So, who was this suddenly, incredibly advanced civilization?

The failure to find an acceptable answer to this cartographic mystery led to speculation that ancient maps were produced by highly advanced aliens, because to produce maps of huge continental land masses, they could only be plotted accurately from an aerial perspective using surveying equipment especially designed for the purpose!

So, aliens excluded, which highly technically advanced cartographers could traverse our planet many thousands of years before the likes of Columbus, et al? Where did they come from and how did they come to possess the expertise and navigational ability to sail vast oceans and, most importantly, to record their findings on maps alleged to have been the sources of information passed on to ‘modern’ explorers like Columbus, Cook, Magellan or Vasco da Gama, for example.

Surprising Satellite Photography Reveals Antarctica’s Distant Past

To quote an example, there is the 16th Century ‘Buache’ map which he (Buache) claims to have been made by a very ancient civilization which accurately mapped the continent of Antarctica completely free of its one-mile deep ice cap. However, with no concrete proof to substantiate his claims, experts suspect Buache's map was probably the product of a vivid imagination. But was it? We shall see later.

Author, space archaeologist, and independent researcher, William James Veall has taken advantage of Antarctica's present narrow extension of coastal deglaciation and used remote sensing satellite photography to expose a number of absolutely astonishing human heads and animal portraits together with inscriptive material clearly demonstrating someone had touched down on at least three separate areas of Antarctica coastline in the distant past.

Utilizing this same technique, I have been very successful tracing the coastline 'hops' of trans-oceanic voyagers around South America, the seaboard of North East America, Newfoundland, the West Coast of Africa, Uruguay and even down the eastern coast of Australia (see table 1) with some most incredible revelations.

Was Antarctica Once Ice-Free?

Following the rather fruitful foray along the east coast of Australia I decided to chance my luck and put to the test the statement made by the Greek geographer, cartographer and mathematician, Marinus of Tyre who in 400 BC reported he had knowledge of an ancient map depicting Antarctica free of ice.

Logically, the nearest point of any trans-oceanic contact with Antarctica using the eastern Australian coastline as a guide would be to cross the South Atlantic, sail into the Antarctic circle, and come ashore at some point roughly in the region of Wilkes Land; the same area selected by Ross in AD 1840-1843.

It is not unreasonable to assume on the premise that the extreme eastern Australian seaboard runs southwards following roughly the 153º anti-meridian that ancient explorers would have 'coast hopped' this meridian in easily measured steps of latitude known in ancient navigational parlance as 'running the latitudes' in conjunction with certain overhead constellations, thus enabling them to cross the oceans until they reached the continent of Antarctica.

After a preliminary scanning of most of the Antarctic perimeter, a deglaciated section of the Ross Sea region appeared to be the only area that might yield sufficient arcti-factual data to make this 'shot in the dark' have any real significance to answer the question: Are there any signs of indigenous or external activity which may account for the fact that various ancient sea maps purport to show all or parts of the Antarctica coastline free of ice?

So firstly, how did Marinus of Tyre learn of the existence of ‘Antarctica’ in 400 BC and secondly, did Buache really have access to ancient maps which allowed him to construct what he claimed to be a true representation of the continent of Antarctica... minus its covering of frozen ice and snow?

Apparently, it was Aristotle who told Marinus of the existence of a continent named 'Terra Australis' surrounding the South Pole. Marinus then marked the world map he was compiling from other ancient maps with this same title. But, most fascinating of all, his map showed Terra Australis (Antarctica) without the traditional ice shield. However, the ancient maps Marinus allegedly used mysteriously 'disappeared' so we have no way of verifying his story.

By the same token; this does not explain how other ancient cartographers, like Oronteus Finaeus and Hadji Ahmed could also claim they had access to maps 6,000 years old (4000 BC) depicting the continent of Antarctica completely free of an ice cap.  From where did their maps originate and who compiled them? I believe I may have chanced upon an answer.

Searching the Explorers’ Sea Route

I must confess, prior to my Antarctica 'shot in the dark'—apart from knowing Antarctica housed the South Pole... and a few penguins—I really had no preconceived ideas about this ice-coated region at the southernmost tip of Planet Earth. Imagine my surprise to discover quite by chance I had followed the now familiar 'modern' explorers’ sea route to Antarctica and coincidentally landed my remote sensing satellite probe virtually at the same anchorage chosen by Amundsen (1911-1912) and Scott (1910-1913).

Rounding Cape Adare and into the Ross Sea, I scanned the eastern coastline along a stretch where the Ross Sea borders Victoria Land. Quite coincidentally, a section of deglaciated shoreline had retreated a little inland leaving a roughly two-kilometer (1.24-mile) stretch exposed, albeit, some places still covered with traces of glaciation. According to the most recent scientific surveys, the Eastern Antarctica ice shield has, even over just the last twenty years, begun to melt at an alarming rate suspected to be as a result of global warming.

I had barely crossed the halfway mark along the Ross Sea shoreline when I had the shock of my life!

Human Heads

The satellite had captured very clearly a human head image (portrait) staring out from the rocky terrain. (Figures 7 and 7a) This was not supposed to happen: the presence of Mankind in any form, prehistoric or otherwise had never ever been detected on Antarctica—a continent currently believed to have been ice covered for eight to nine million years, and would logically be virgin territory free of any prehistoric indigenous inhabitants until well after the end of the great Ice Age, 12,000 years ago.

FIGURES 7 and 7a:  The very first portrait I discovered on Antarctica; this amazing figure wearing a tricorn hat is carved into a deglaciated rock surface, some 25 meters in height x 32 meters width, it features a human head, Caucasian in appearance, with gentile facial features and lightly epicanthic, expressive eyes.  The left cheek (facing) is pecked with a Cretan style 'star'; the forehead with a diamond point GIS. Beneath the right eye (facing) is a small pecked triangle. Just opposite are pecked two Linear A characters.

Research carried out by Reading University in the UK strongly suggests an advanced civilization did exist many thousands of years before the Egyptians, Sumerians or Babylonians; this culture of Black Peoples (the Kiffian Era) due to climatic changes were driven south from their homelands of the "Green Sahara" (9000 – 4000 BC) to eventually merge their allegedly quite advanced technology with the less developed peoples in the southern regions, Egypt, for example. (see References: ' Black Mummy of the Green Sahara' - an excellent video).

Scanning the Ross Sea rocky coastline eventually exposed some forty or so human head portraits, including animal heads and, including those in Table 2, nearly one hundred pecked symbols. My method of analysis has been developed over many years studying literally hundreds of satellite imagery situations across the mountains and deserts of the world, enabling the creation of extremely critical rules for precise imagery interpretation.

FIGURES  5 and 5a: A petroglyph, located on Marambio Island in the north-west corner of the Antarctic, has a most unusual monkey-face profile, subtending the head of an eagle. The head is marked with an open loop GIS symbol on the left cheek. Three circles (stones) are conjoined at the rear of the eagle's head. A date perhaps?

Which particular culture used this motif as its signature icon to announce its presence on Antarctica? The head is 34 meters high by 50 meters wide (111.5 feet by 164 feet), the Eagle 18 meters high by 39 meters in length (59 feet by 128 feet). The two conjoined 'Gods' appear to represent Hanuman, the all-powerful Hindu Monkey God and the Eagle, the Hindu God, Garuda … but in the ANTARCTIC?

FIGURE 6: I originally ignored this rock-strewn debris but careful maneuvering of the remote sensing camera shot exposed a pattern of rocks seemingly set in the form of an ancient legend embedded into the seashore. Unfortunately, the seaward portion of the text is now submerged under (melt) water. Exposed size 50 meters in length x 25 meters (164 by 82 feet) wide.

Was this message a Dedication to celebrate a long-held dream of stepping ashore on Planet Earth's most iconic land mass; acting as a counterweight to balance Global Earth with another great land mass in the north—the Arctic? I believe so.

The characters appear very similar to the Minoan Linear A 'accountancy' script, circa 1800 – 1400 BC; this is immensely interesting because the 'dots and dashes' just might translate into chronological data, in other words - announcing the arrival and date of European mans' first footfall on the continent of Antarctica?

Interestingly, Table 3 quite clearly depicts characters are both Linear A and B types, whereas virtually all the subsequent inscriptive material (see table 2) along the Ross Sea coastline is 'pecked' in a more advanced alphabet of Phoenician genre. Thus, by inference, the landing must have taken place well before 1200 BC because after that time the Phoenician genre (1100 BC) began to dominate 'writing'.

One further fact that might confirm that the message was a 'Dedication of Arrival' ; the triangle symbol gives an exact latitude 72 21 04 00 S and longitude 170 15 37 00E. In my experience, a triangle followed by a capital 'A' almost always signified a geodetic of importance.

Further, why set this co-ordinate on a fragile shoreline when all others are carved into the cliff face? Answer: many years earlier the coastline was greatly extended, as proven  by both the Oronteus Finaeus and Buache ancient maps (see Figure 1 map, green extension).

FIGURES 8 and 8a: This figure, 23 meters high x 20 meters in width is clearly of 'Native' ancestry. The head appears to have an unusual projecting jawline. A gnomon records the 170.16.26.00 longitude co-ordinate of this particular image.

Reading the back history of Antarctica, references clearly state that there was never any indigenous flora and fauna of any kind present on the continent because the land mass had been completely covered in an ice sheet for at least nine million years... before even prehistoric Man.
