Would You Eat 3D Printed Cheese?

Would You Eat 3D Printed Cheese?

Dairy-products
IN BRIEF

Researchers have developed a method of 3D printing cheese that could make it healthier, and it could also increase the options available to those with lactose intolerance.

DAIRY DEFICIENCY

Good news for anyone who suffers from dairy intolerance—avoiding and finding passable alternatives for it isn’t your only solution. Thanks to advancements in technology, you could possibly be printing the next cheese platter you serve at a dinner party.

Researchers from Wageningen University in the Netherlands are working withFrieslandCampina, a dairy cooperative, to look into 3D printing dairy products.

But why bother when we already have alternatives available for those with an intolerance? Because unlike available options that we have now made of artificial cheese of dairy-free substitutes, 3D printed cheese will still be dairy-based—except it can be made minus all the bad stuff.

It basically uses a protein found in milk called sodium caseinate, which has a liquid feel but can easily solidify after it is released by the 3D printer. This means the consistency and flavor could be closer to the real thing.

CHEESE LOVERS

Take note that, like most cheese or any other dairy alternative, it only promises to be “close” to the real deal. Solidified sodium caseinate doesn’t necessarily translate to cheese, as it will require additional ingredients to ensure that the flavor and texture of the printed materials stays true to the original.

Because the entire process is still in its early stages, there is still very little information on what these additional ingredients might be. But since the goal of the 3D printed cheese is to become a healthier alternative, then it should be a low-fat, high-protein, lactose-free version that still tastes as amazing as real cheese.

The process also doesn’t completely take cows out of the equation, much to the disappointment of numerous environmentalists who are trying to draw focus on the world’s reliance on livestock. Milk still needs to be taken from cows to get the sodium caseinate—but this new process does present a lot of benefits by way of minimizing waste from spoilage.

WOULD YOU EAT 3D PRINTED CHEESE? DUTCH RESEARCHERS HOPE SO

Like many people, I have a love/hate relationship with dairy. I’m a big fan of chocolate and most ice creams, but when it comes to milk itself, I really dislike the flavor. With a few exceptions, I’m pretty anti-cheese, too, which baffles some of my cheese fanatic friends to the point of outrage. In another example of how life isn’t fair, I know several people who love all things dairy but had to stop consuming it all thanks to a lactose intolerance development. (Those are the people who hate me the most, because unlike them, I can have cheese, but I choose to throw away that gift.)

For all of us – those who dislike dairy, and those who are disliked by dairy – creative solutions must be found in order to maintain healthy levels of calcium and to have something to put on cereal. Thanks to a lactose intolerant family member, I’ve become well acquainted with the growing range of cowless milks – rice milk (or, as a young cousin calls it, “rice juice” – even more appetizing), almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk, etc. I can’t say I’m a big fan of those alternatives either, but never would I have thought of 3D printed milk as something that could…well, be a thing. Turns out it is, though – or will be, if some Dutch scientists succeed.

Researchers from Wageningen University in the Netherlands have partnered with dairy cooperativeFrieslandCampina to explore 3D printed dairy products. Why? Cheese addicts, rejoice: one day you may be able to feed your habit without guilt. Unlike cheese alternatives available now, 3D printed cheese would still be dairy-based, just with the bad stuff – i.e., the high cholesterol content – removed. The key is sodium caseinate, a protein found in milk. It’s a natural 3D printing material, as, according to Wageningen professor Maarten Schutyser, it has a “liquid feel” but quickly solidifies once extruded from a 3D printer.

Sodium-Caseinate

Solidified sodium caseinate does not equal cheese, however, and that’s where things get nebulous. Additional ingredients would have to be added to the printer to get the final extruded product to match the flavor and texture of cheese or butter, and the project is still very much in the experimental stages in terms of what those ingredients might be or how they might be combined. Ideally, the final product would be high-protein, low-fat, great-tasting and lactose-free dairy with a lower environmental impact than traditionally manufactured cheese. But after all that tinkering, is it still “real” milk, or cheese, or butter? (When is a cheese not a cheese? Discuss.)

It’s easy to be skeptical about such an endeavor. As environmentalists raise concerns about our reliance on livestock, 3D printed dairy doesn’t take cows out of the equation. Cows’ milk is still required to obtain the sodium caseinate for the base of the product, but if sodium caseinate is the only thing still making it technically dairy, why not just stick with the already existing alternatives? (It’s also interesting to note that sodium caseinate is an ingredient in “non-dairy” creamers, so apparently the term “dairy” is up for debate.)

The environmental benefits would likely come from reduced waste from spoilage during the production process, but again, the question of whether 3D printing dairy products will be worth it is still very much up in the air. Right now, it’s an experiment, and whether or not it will actually come to fruition (milk-ition? I’m sorry. Really, I am sorry.) remains to be seen. The same can be said for most 3D printed food, actually, as researchers study ways to print new foods rather than just extruding chocolate pastes into fun shapes, which is essentially what 3D food printers currently do. The ultimate question is whether 3D printing can be used to create foods that are healthier, better-tasting, or that otherwise hold a big enough advantage over their traditional counterparts to make them more than just a novelty.

COW_02_KH0016_01_P

Then there’s the question of public reception. GMOs are the bogeyman of the moment, and raw or paleo diets are the current fad as nutritionists exhort us to stop eating processed foods. Will people trust milk products that have been so altered and, well, processed? Surveys have shown that the majority of people are still pretty queasy about the idea of 3D printed food. It’s all a question of whether scientists truly can develop 3D printed foods whose benefits clearly and significantly present themselves, and even then it’s going to take some serious marketing to get the public on board. But we’ll never know unless we try. What do you think about this? Talk about it in the 3D Printed Dairy forum over at 3DPB.com.

A New Theory Regarding EmDrive: The Fuel-Free Method of Space Travel

A New Theory Regarding EmDrive: The Fuel-Free Method of Space Travel

Normandy SR3 by DmitryEp18
IN BRIEF

A scientist just unveiled a new idea regarding how EmDrive, the 'impossible engine' that functions without fuel, actually works. But don't plan on heading to the stars just yet.

THE SPACE TRAVEL OF THE FUTURE?

EmDrive is at it again, it seems. Recently, Mike McCulloch, from Plymouth University in the U.K., unveiled a theory that aims to explain how this physics-breaking mode of travel couldactually work. And his theory has some proponents of this method of transport rather excited.

But before we go into the newly proposed theory: A quick summary of what EmDrive actually is.

In short, EmDrive could allow us to explore our universe in ways that, today, we can only dream about…if it’s ever developed, that is. It works (or should work) thanks to microwaves. The claim is, you bounce microwaves back and forth inside a truncated cone, and the result will be a thrust toward the narrow end of the cone.

That seems simple enough, yes? After all, you are just converting kinetic energy into another form of energy.

Well, here is the kicker: The total momentum increases as the device begins to move. That is like placing yourself inside a box, pushing on the side, and generating thrust. Sounds silly, doesn’t it? Well, here is another kicker: To date, a number of  teams around the world have built their own versions of the EmDrive. And they generate thrust…but only a tiny amount.

And, alas, we don’t know where this increased momentum comes from. Critics assert that this is a violation of the law of conservation of momentum (which is part of the fundamental physics that governs our universe). Moreover, scientists assert that there are other effects that could, in essence, be producing a false positive and generating this increased thrust.

To that end, a host of scientists have been trying to work out whether this is an anomaly or if it actually works (and if so, how). This is where McCulloch comes in.

A NEW IDEA

In short, the new theory is based on ideas regarding inertia and the way objects move under very small accelerations. It has to do with something called “the Unruh effect.” This asserts that an accelerating object experiences black body radiation, meaning that the universe warms up when you accelerate. And in this regard, according to McCulloch, inertia is the pressure the Unruh radiation exerts on an accelerating body.

As MIT notes, “at very small accelerations, the wavelengths of Unruh radiation become so large they can no longer fit in the observable universe. When this happens, inertia can take only certain whole-wavelength values and so jumps from one value to the next. In other words, inertia must quantized at small accelerations.”

Thus, the inertia of photons that are inside of the aforementioned truncated cone have to change as they bounce back and forth. And to conserve momentum, this must generate a thrust.

In an email interview, RIT astrophysicist Brian Koberlein summarizes:

The Unruh effect (basically) says that an accelerated object should see a thermal background due to background quantum fluctuations. The calculation of the Unruh effect is straightforward, and isn’t controversial. Unruh radiation is (basically) the idea that in the detection of this thermal background you can trigger the emission of real particles. In other words, can you create real radiation ‘out of the vacuum.’ So they are claiming Unruh radiation is real, and causing the EM effect.

So. Is this the solution we needed? Well, maybe not.

In the end, there are a number of ways that individuals have attempted to explain EmDrive, and to date, none of them have been shown to provide a conclusive answer. And while MuCulloch’s idea is based upon long established theoretical ideas, he applies the ideas is rather unconventional (and controversial) ways.

Koberlein notes that the work, in itself, is certainly valuable, stating, “they are trying to fit the results to a model, and looking for testable predictions, both of which are great.” However, he clarifies, saying that we need to maintain a healthy dose of skepticism.

In relation to the idea that the Unruh effect is responsible for inertia, he asserts, “the quantized inertia idea at least makes some predictions that can be tested, so that’s not bad;” however, this does not mean that it is responsible for the thrust that is seen in relation to the EmDrive. He continues, “the idea that the EM effect can account for the flyby anomaly is weak tea. To begin with, just because it can be made to fit under certain assumptions, it isn’t the same as predicting an effect. Secondly, there are lots of proposed explanations for the flyby effect, most of which are more mundane and don’t require exotic physics (such as radio chirps).”

So it seems that it may be a little early to assert that we have figured out how EmDrive really works. As Koberlein concludes, “The biggest challenge they still have is that these results are so extraordinarily small that lots of things can explain them. They aren’t there yet, though.”

SCIENTIST CONFIRM THE EXISTENCE OF ALIEN ENTITIES 2016! (A MUST WATCH!)

SCIENTIST CONFIRM THE EXISTENCE OF ALIEN ENTITIES 2016! (A MUST WATCH!)

Published on Apr 16, 2016

HAVE (ITE) INVISIBLE TERRESTRIAL ALIEN ENTITIES BEEN DISCOVERED IN 2016? Apparently as it turns out, We are not alone in the Universe. Scientist at the Thunder Energies Corp. have found and proved the existence of intelligent life just outside our atmosphere. Thunder Energies Corp (TNRG:OTC) has recently detected invisible entities in our terrestrial environment with the revolutionary Santilli telescope with concave lenses (Trade Mark and patent pending by Thunder Energies). Thunder Energies Corporation has previously presented confirmations of the apparent existence of antimatter galaxies, antimatter asteroids and antimatter cosmic rays detected in preceding tests. In this breaking news, Thunder Energies presents evidence for the existence of Invisible Terrestrial Entities (ITE) of the dark and bright type.

"This is an exciting discovery. We do not know what these entities are; they’re completely invisible to our eyes, our binoculars, or traditional Galileo telescopes, but these objects are fully visible in cameras attached to our Santilli telescope,” stated Dr. Ruggero Santilli, CEO Thunder Energies Corp.

While it's deep space capabilities are well documented in scientific journals, it was only by chance that our telescope detected invisible terrestrial entities within the earth's atmosphere. Scientifically, this should be impossible because when ordinary matter and anti-matter come into contact, the annihilate one another.

So, what are these invisible terrestrial entities (ITE) that have been observed and photographed? These entities defy our current scientific knowledge. Some appear to move at highly erratic speeds while others appear to be almost stationary. Some ITE appear as dark entities while others give off a luminous glow. To say anything beyond this would be speculation. What I can say is that these entities are invisible to the human eye and to conventional telescopes and binoculars; they can only be observed with our telescope.

Dr. Santilli has developed his telescope with concave lenses also for the study of other forms of light besides antimatter light. Thunder Energies Corporation is supporting research for the possible conversion of matter-light, from its conventional form with positive index of refraction, into a form with negative index of refraction without its necessary origination from antimatter (TEC international patent pending).

What do you think about this? Are Invisible entities peering down on earth from space? And if so, Have they always been there? And what is their purpose?
Mr. Anthony Patch gives a very in depth look at what Scientist at the Thunder Energies Corp. have really found.
We hope this helps answer any questions on this fantastic recent finding.

Atlantis: Examining the Legendary Tale of Plato

Atlantis: Examining the Legendary Tale of Plato

Around 360 BC, in his dialogues of Timaeus and Critias, the Greek philosopher Plato introduced an incredible story, a tale of an enigmatic island civilization which has since captivated the imagination of every generation that followed. This was the story of Atlantis, thought to be one of the most advanced societies of the ancient world, an idyllic island paradise of skillful navigators capable of crossing the Atlantic Ocean to conquer and explore!

"For it is related in our records how once upon a time your State stayed the course of a mighty host, .....and it was possible for travelers of that time to cross from it (from Atlantis) to the other islands and from the islands to the whole of the continent over against them which encompasses the veritable (Atlantic) ocean ..."

– Plato

Plato’s Tale

Today, popular theories place Atlantis in locations like off the coast of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean, around the Azores islands in the middle of the Atlantic, somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle off the coast of the United States, or even in more exotic locations such as Antarctica and Indonesia. Of course more mainstream studies point to the tiny island of Santorini, the island of Crete, Malta, Spain, and other archaeological sites around the Mediterranean. Overall, there are countless theories on the location of Atlantis, while more seem to surface every year.

Despite all the scientific and nonscientific speculation though, and due to the lack of tangible evidence in the past, the vast majority of modern historians believe that Plato’s tale of Atlantis is either a myth, or they assume Plato crafted a story around a fictional place while using a mix of real elements from later times.

Is it possible then that the story of Atlantis was entirely a figment of Plato’s imagination? It is certainly possible, although if the story is not real, how otherwise can we explain the tangible evidence that supports Plato's story, including a recently discovered site that perfectly matches Atlantis' description.

Essentially, and contrary to a common belief that Plato’s Atlantis may have been somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, a recent study shows that Plato's island of Atlantis was in the Mediterranean Sea and just few kilometers north of the island of Santorini. This now-underwater primary island, along with the island of Santorini, fits Plato's entire description of Atlantis.

Lost in Translation

To successfully decode Plato’s puzzle, and to ensure that the meaning from the original Greek story was not lost during translation, the English version was compared to the Greek format which has entirely different syntactic structure. (Actually, when it comes to Greek, sometimes even a single comma can cause a short sentence to have two different meanings. A good example is a famous quote from the oracle of Delphi. "Go, return not die in war" can have two entirely opposite meanings, depending on where a missing comma is supposed to be - before or after - the word "not.") This recent evaluation of Plato's text revealed that simple errors and flawed interpretations by early translators led many researchers in the past to look for Atlantis in all the wrong places. Consequently, unlike all past “discoveries,” including recent ones that led to more speculation rather than real evidence, for the first time, there is a tangible site where all the physical characteristics perfectly match Plato’s account.

Lost Island Found

It seems that 11,000 years ago, according to Plato the story of Atlantis took place, many of the Cyclades Islands were connected by a flat terrain, today called the “Cyclades Plateau.” This now-400 feet (122 meters) underwater plateau formed the body of a large island, while the modern islands of the Cyclades fashioned rows of mountains that emerged in all the “right places,” when those are compared to Plato’s story!

Just as Plato described Atlantis, the northern portion of this island was entirely comprised of mountains which reached the shores. There was an oblong valley directly below this mountainous region, and a second valley closer to the center of the island that was encircled by low rise mountains. This central valley was two thirds in size of the oblong valley. Moreover, Santorini itself, a setting of an island within an island, and a place where many mainstream archaeologists in the past had placed the crown-city of Atlantis, falls precisely within 5.6 miles (nine km) from the grand island, and as Plato depicted (See image below, from the book “ Uchronia Atlantis Revealed ”.)

“....an island comprising mostly of mountains in the northern portions and along the shore, and encompassing a great plain of an oblong shape in the south extending in one direction three thousand stadia (about 555km 2), but across the center island it was two thousand stadia (about 370km 2). Fifty stadia (9km) from the coast was a mountain that was low on all sides…broke it off all round about…the central island itself was five stades in diameter (about 0.92km)”.

- Plato

Interestingly, and just as Plato mentioned, this super-island drowned by the sea at around 8000 BC during the rapid rise of the Mediterranean and just prior to the flooding of the Black Sea (see 2005 UNESCO study). So, in light of this latest discovery, having a site that finally matches Plato's description of Atlantis, is it possible to accept that Plato's story was based on a real setting and a prehistoric civilization known to ancient Greeks? Of course it is, especially since disproving a perfectly matching site may be even more difficult than finding such a site to begin with.

Consequently, earlier this year, the same image was sent to a popular blog site (one that prides itself to contain the most comprehensive data on Atlantis) with the following comments:

" ....if we remain true to Plato’s account and look for a setting at around 9600 BC, the place on the image must have been the prehistoric site Plato was talking about, whether ‘Atlantis’ as we know it was real or not. As you see, the geography is perfectly identical, the volcanic geology is there, and the flora and fauna (including elephants) chronologically match the topography. Furthermore, a pre-Bronze Age civilization in the immediate area further reinforces this likelihood. If Plato’s Atlantis was ever real, this site offers the perfect match! As you also know, before any geographical area qualifies to be considered the site of Plato’s Atlantis, the 2005 conference of Milos established two dozen criteria. This site meets most of these criteria while the remaining few, especially past suppositions ‘hinting’ to its possible location being somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, are also explained when properly interpreting Plato from ancient Greek to English.… Obviously, it is no longer considered a farfetched hypothesis to accept that, 10,000 years ago, humans were more advanced and just as Plato asserted. Along with the ancient city of Jericho in Palestine, which long ago was determined that some of its structures date back to the 10th millennium BC, the mega-site of Gobekli Tepe in Turkey (12000BC), as well as the submerged city off the coast of West India in the Gulf of Cambay (8000BC), prove conclusively that prehistoric humans had progressed earlier than anthropologists previously thought.”

- Christos A. Djonis

Regardless of the many archaeological discoveries though, which clearly point to past advanced civilizations, it seems that most skeptics continue to argue, as this blogger did, that “Plato’s 9,000-year-old Atlantis conflicts with common sense and archaeology.” In fact, he also indicated that “since several details in Plato’s story are not compatible with the 10th millennium BC (horse races, triremes, the city of Athens, Egypt, etc.), that leaves no doubt in his mind that Atlantis was a myth.”

Subsequently, in order to demonstrate how important supportive details are to a true story, and to show how Plato's story suffers from verifiable details, a few days later he posted an article in his regular blog in which he outlined the military and the ‘population of Atlantis,’ (which he based on three different past theories) and pointed out that those theoretical numbers cannot be right.

While, of course, this can be explained in a couple of ways, one being the so-called ‘expert’ opinions in the three conflicting examples are wrong, conversely, he never discussed or explained away the ancient island on the image proposed. Apparently, as other skeptics often do, he formed an opinion he based either on modern interpretations of the story, or on oddities from Plato’s own account, as if every “true story” we are ever told always turn out to be real down to the last detail.

Fictions Turned Reality

So, were the Atlantians truly a prehistoric civilization as Plato claimed, or was that a myth? Was the story of Atlantis entirely a product of Plato’s imagination, or is it possible he created a fable around a real setting and an ancient civilization known to ancient Greeks, which in order to successfully communicate some of his philosophical ideas, (divine vs. human, ideal societies vs. corrupt) he filled with familiar matter and details from later times. Could this ideological story otherwise appeal to his audience if they could not connect or relay to it?

A parallel example, of Plato’s legend of Atlantis, is Homer’s Iliad. Just as in the case of Atlantis, for several centuries we thought that the city of Troy—the centerpiece in Homer’s epic saga—was a myth. All that changed obviously when Heinrich Schliemann, an amateur archaeologist, found Troy in 1868 while following location tips from Homer’s book.

In the case of Troy, after discarding all the details regarding beauty queens, demigods, Trojan horses and scaling back the armies to more rational levels, it was ultimately acknowledged the setting, as well as the bulk of this story, were real. Essentially, Homer’s entirely fictional story, which he filled with principles and common elements from his own time, apparently revolved around a true setting and a real incident which took place nearly six centuries before his time.

The walls of the acropolis belong to Troy VII, which is identified as the site of the Trojan War (c. 1200 BC).

Another example that proves the “true part” of a story does not always rest in the details, is the account that surrounds the historic Battle of Thermopylae. In this case, we have ancient reports of a famous battle which in order to reasonably authenticate, we had to know the factions involved as well as their military force. Do we have such a legitimate testimony? Not exactly! What we have is far from real. More specifically, Herodotus wrote that King Leonidas, with 300 Spartans, along with few thousand Greeks, fought against 2.6 million Persians, followed by two million support personnel. The poet Simonides reported that the Persian army reached four million. Ctesias, a Greek physician and historian downscaled the Persian forces to 800,000.

Greek phalanx formation based on sources from the Perseus Project.

Just as in the case of Atlantis, once more, we are presented with conflicting and grossly exaggerated figures. If these guys were the ‘credible’ sources we got this true story from, why then did we discard their details and create our own? After brushing aside the troop count as quoted in all ancient accounts, modern calculations indicate that the Persian force could not have been higher than 300,000 troops.

In the case of Thermopylae, amongst other debatable details, did the ancient Greek historians inflate the size of the Persian army? Of course they did, as the story undoubtedly sounds better that way. Ultimately though, and regardless of the enormous inconsistencies in the facts, we accept this story as real. Interestingly, Troy and Thermopylae are not isolated cases in our recorded history, which is full of stories with serious discrepancies and circumstances where mythological places, or “fairy-tales,” eventually turned out to be true. Such, among others, was the Palace of Knossos in Crete, which it was associated with the Minotaur (a mythical beast of half man and half bull.)

Fundamental Questions

So, a fundamental question remains. Was Atlantis simply a cautionary tale or is it possible that Plato crafted a tale based on a real setting and a prehistoric civilization known to ancient Greeks, while he supplemented all the ‘modern’ details (including the familiar Minoan aspects) as Homer similarly did few hundred years before him? If true, the ‘true-part’ of this story, as in the case of Troy, should not rest in the details, but in the detection and authentication of Plato’s “lost island.” Identifying a perfectly matching site, one that preferably exhibits signs of an advanced civilization in the area, should be the first step in solving this mystery.

Is it possible then that the “mighty host” who “stayed the course” (inhabited the path) to mainland Greece be that of the prehistoric island of the Cyclades Plateau? Certainly every element of this site seems to match Plato’s given chronology as well as physical description. If so, can the signs of an early Neolithic presence in the immediate area be the remnants of an even older civilization that was able to recover on the surrounding islands after the Great Flood at the end of the last Ice Age? And finally, was that lost civilization capable of navigating to the Americas via island hopping as Plato claimed?

According to the same study, and as best demonstrated in the book “ Uchronia Atlantis Revealed”, the enormous island/continent Plato mentioned on the opposite side of the Atlantic, “across from the Pillars of Hercules" (Strait of Gibraltar,) one that “encompasses that veritable ocean” and is “larger than Libya and Asia combined," was that of America and not of Atlantis, as many had speculated in the past (see also Ancient Origins article titled, The Legendary Hyperborea and the Ancient Greeks: Who Really Discovered America? )

Traveling Genetics

If so, can this very early knowledge of the American continent best explain how haplogroup X, a Middle Eastern gene, found itself in the region of the Great Lakes 10,000 years ago? If an advanced Mediterranean culture did not travel to North America via island hopping as Plato claimed, how else then can we justify that elevated concentrations of haplogroup X also ‘strangely’ exist in Scotland, Orkney Islands, Faroe Islands, and Iceland, essentially all the island stops on the way to North America from Europe. Finally, how do we otherwise explain that official mtDNA maps show that the highest concentration of haplogroup X away from the eastern Mediterranean exists on the east coast of North America, around the Great Lakes, and not in Alaska or alongside the west coast of the United States, where mainstream scientists maintain haplogroup X infiltrated the American continent. The fact that there is no conclusive scientific explanation to justify the lack of haplogroup X in the enormous void between Altai Republic in southern Russia and the greater region of the Great Lakes, unquestionably raises legitimate doubts on the Bering Strait hypothesis.

mtDNA Map: Spread of Haplogroup X

mtDNA Map: Spread of Haplogroup X (Courtesy author)

As for the Solutrean/Clovis theory (Europeans simply made it to America on a partial ice sheet via the Atlantic), how can the supporters of this hypothesis rationalize that out of a dozen distinct haplogroups in Europe at the time (H,V,J,HV,U,T,UK,X,W, and I), only haplogroup X conveniently made it to North America?

If we ignore Plato's claim that a particular race of prehistoric Mediterranean navigators (in a contained environment) crossed the Atlantic via island hopping 10,000 years ago, and simply assume that 10 millennia ago the path to North America was open from both directions (the north Atlantic as well as the Bering Strait), how do we explain that only a single European/Mediterranean gene managed the journey to the New World via the Atlantic, while on the opposite side, every one of the four Asian haplogroups (A,B,C and D) sequentially followed each other to America through the Bering Strait?

Finally, as for the general notion that Atlantis “was swallowed by the sea and vanished” this is simply another misconception.

"But at a later time there occurred portentous earth quakes and floods, and one grievous day and night .... And the island of Atlantis in like manner was swallowed up by the sea and vanished."

- Plato

We must not ignore that in the same paragraph Plato points out that Atlantis' demise came after several “portentous earthquakes and floods.” The mention of earthquakes and floods in the plural not only confirms that the island’s destruction was gradual but this statement further corroborates that the periodic floods were most likely associated with the rise of the oceans as earlier indicated. Furthermore, the remark “one grievous day and night”, more of a stock phrase among Greeks, does not necessarily imply that the island was lost within 24 hours, but that the end event occurred at some unknown point in time.

Not speaking in literal terms but poetically, Plato said the island on that very day was “swallowed” (claimed) by the sea, and it “vanished.” In another paragraph though, he accurately describes the particular region and explains that once the flood cycle finally ended, the mountain tops of Atlantis remained above water and formed small islands (just as in the case of the modern Cyclades). Poetically once more, he compared these small islets to the “bones of the wasted body” of the "country" that once was there.

"The consequence is, that in comparison of what then was, there are remaining in small islets only the bones of the wasted body, as they may be called, all the richer and softer parts of the soil having fallen away, and the mere skeleton of the country being left."

Smart Scalpel Can Detect Cancerous Tumors, Making Risky Brain Surgery Safer

Smart Scalpel Can Detect Cancerous Tumors, Making Risky Brain Surgery Safer

A Mexican researcher at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), one of Europe’s top universities, has designed an amazing device which can help in locating cancerous tumors in the brain.

The device is conceived by David Oliva Uribe, president of the Mexican Talent Network Abroad chapter in Belgium. The device will help surgeons differentiate between cancerous and healthy tissue in the brain.

Removing brain tumors requires a high level of precision; there’s almost no room for error as even a single mistake can lead to brain damage, motor impairment, or failure in controlling vital organ function.

This device, known as a “smart scalpel,” is the size of a scalpel, but the tip is spherical and of a diameter smaller than one millimeter. Using this device, doctors can discover exactly where the tumor is and remove it more precisely.

Uribe explained, “Although imaging techniques such as an MRI and an ultrasound locate a tumor accurately before the surgery, during the cranial opening and throughout the surgical procedure there are many factors that can lead to the loss of this position, so the resection (the removing of the tumor) depends on the experience, as well as the senses of sight and touch of the surgeon.”

The device has been tested on tumors in pig brains with successful results, making it feasible to be adapted for use on humans as well.

Celestial Maps of Gegham Mountain: The Unique Rock Art of Armenia

Celestial Maps of Gegham Mountain: The Unique Rock Art of Armenia

Celestial Maps of Gegham Mountain: The Unique Rock Art of Armenia

(Read the article on one page)

In the volcanic Gegham and Vardenis Mountains of Armenia, architect Suren Petrosyan discovered unique and mysterious astrological rock art paintings.

Experts have different opinions on the creation chronology of the rock art paintings found in the basin of Lake Sevan and along the slopes of Mount Aragats. Some think these rock art paintings were created in the third to second millennium BC, others claim about the fifth to fourth millennium BC, and there are researchers who date them to 10th millennium BC. It is not surprising, since the study and chronology of rock art paintings is very difficult.

However, there is no doubt that these rock art paintings illustrating stellar maps have thousands of years’ history.

When you visit the mountains where these astrological paintings—some made with a natural paint made of red volcanic mineral, others carved into the rock—have been created, immediately you notice the wide skies which seem almost too close to the Earth. The starry sky is especially clear and bright, which inspires one to go back to the past and for a moment to appear beside our ancestors, and see how they saw.

And at a time when there were no magnifying devices, the fact that the Armenian Highland is high enough above sea level (1700 to 1800 meters, or 5577 to 5905 feet), and about 500 to 600 meters (1600 to 2000 feet) high from the neighboring countries, contributed to witnessing breathtaking clarity of the starry sky.

In this regard, great importance was placed on rock art paintings on the hill called “Sheikhi Chingil” in the Gegham mountains, and on the peak of Sevsar in Vardenis Mountains—the former above sea level about 3500 meters (11,482 feet), and the latter at about 300 meters (984 feet).

Celestial Rock Art

These rock art paintings differ from the rest of Armenian petroglyphs because they are exclusively dedicated to the worship of the heavenly bodies, including the sun, moon, planets, stars, and unusual compositions of figures. In these places even the so-called “ordinary” rock art paintings are inextricably linked to the starry sky.

Many Armenian scientists have studied these unique ancient astronomic centers and their stellar maps, but historian and archaeologist Harutyun Martirosyan came to conclusion that the ancestors of Armenians, while worshiping the heavenly bodies, recognized several important quantitative and qualitative patterns of the celestial world.

Accordingly, it is clear that the heavenly bodies that were carved into the rock were based on accurate observations, that thousands of years ago our ancestors have differentiated not only the sun and the moon, but also planets, stars, and constellations which were separated into respective images and symbols only in the third millennium BC.

Obviously, ancient man not only noticed, but also depicted the movement of the stars that helped them to clearly understand and mark day and night, and the passage of time—seasons, days, even hours. Our ancestors differentiated the long, medium and short days based on the movements of the near and distant stars and planets.

Thus, Armenians’ ancestors’ understanding of the night sky came from religious circles.

The Sun and Moon: Siblings in the Sky

If we look at the disks of the sun in our rock art paintings, then you see that they are portrayed differently: in varying positions, the disks of the sun portray the morning, noon and evening. The sun is depicted through four concentric circles according to its rotation.

Armenians’ ancestors believed that the sun and the moon are siblings. That's why they often depicted the moon, like the sun, in the circle. However, unlike the sun, the moon was depicted with two concentric circles, that reflects two main stages of the moon.

Following the sun, moon and stars movements, regularities, and their quantitative expressions, ancient Armenians generalized all these in numbers, studying count and arithmetic from nature.

So they gave the sun one point, the sun and the moon two points, the moon and the stars three points, five points they gave to the planets and added to the sun and the moon, it becomes seven points. And the number 7 occupies the main place in all initial calculations of man, especially since it exactly matches with the changes of the moon phases.

That is why, in “Sheikhi Chingil” rock art paintings we are repeatedly met with such groups of heavenly bodies, of which the sum is 7.

Numbers of Astronomy

The first of rock art painting is relatively small, and has inner and outer frames. There are 28 long rays on big frame.

If we consider that the moon is seen from the region of Armenia for only 28 days during the month, then we have to accept the full relationship of the duration of the lunar month and the “Sheikhi Chingil” ray numbers. So it becomes obvious that we are really dealing with the calculations of lunar month which consists of four weeks, the beginning of which was determined by the specific observations.

Based on these images, we can assume that one of the highest places of the Gegham Mountains, “Sheikhi Chingil”, was a temple-observatory for the ancient Armenians, from where they watched the bright bodies of light in the sky, counted the number of days and months, and they made predictions based on the observed movements.

Ancient Astronomy at Sevsar

The rock art paintings of Sevsar, which are one of the most unique rock art paintings in the world, both by form or by its content, are hugely significant. By studying the rock art depictions, researchers came to the conclusion that Sevsar was an ancient astronomic center.

On this collection of "star maps" there are a large number of images similar to constellations, which are divided into groups. One group has seven points, the other one 38 points, and four semi-spherical figures are carved separately. There are 56 points on a stone, so we can see here the same 7, 14, 28 numbers as at “Sheikhi Chingil” in the remote mountains. So using this star map, we can find the number of days in two lunar months.

This fact allows us to multiply the number 28 by 12, and we will get 336, which is equal to 12 lunar months’ duration. And if we multiply all 60 figures of rock art paintings by 6 (30X12), then we will get 360, which is also close to the solar year duration.

The second stone of Sevsar contains a number of celestial bodies which show the calculation of the ‘tropical month’ or vernal equinox. Semi-spherical bodies are arranged in three rows and each of them has 31 points (total of 62), and the tropical month has 31 days.

Solar Calendar

The third rock of the Sevsar occupies six square meters (65 square feet) and presents a marvelous calendar.

On this “star map” four groups of celestial bodies are clearly distinguished, including geometrical images, human and animal figures, etc. Seven figures are placed in the center of the map which seems to be a solar system.

Here we can see two of 12 constellations: “Aries” the Ram and “Gemini” the Twins, from which begins and ends the solar rotation of the spring cycle.

Constellations are depicted as humans, animals and geometric figures.

Constellations are depicted as humans, animals and geometric figures. (Image courtesy writer).

The number and layout of figures in the rock art paintings leads to the conclusion that the ancestors of Armenians were predicting the four seasons which directly were depended on the sun's position.

Pursuant to the Solar Calendar of Armenian ancestors, half of the year contained 186 days. Surely the Sevsar calendar contained an almost unerring number of days of a half year.

It is surprising that the 365 days of the modern calendar are also reflected in Sevsar rock art paintings, which is in "Aries" Constellation.

Having such a perfect calendar and being able to determine the exact time of the precise half day of summer solstice by the shortest shadow of the sun, our ancient chroniclers could arrange, through exact calculations, the sequence of holidays and rituals.

The neighboring Mesopotamia and Egypt in third millennium BC were using not only the calendar, but also used sand and water clocks, however, it is obvious that the earliest Lunar-Solar calendar (about fifth to fourth millennium BC) in Armenia undoubtedly is more progressive compared to the astrological calendars of Egypt and Babylon.

All the evidence that we have at our disposal confirms that the ancestors of Armenians practically knew some patterns of movement of celestial bodies, the recognition and use of which was one of the main conditions for their progress, especially in agriculture, animal husbandry, hunting, and the arts.

Death Plunge Of Venus Spacecraft Reveals Surprisingly Cold Temperatures On The Hottest Planet

Death Plunge Of Venus Spacecraft Reveals Surprisingly Cold Temperatures On The Hottest Planet

 by Jonathan O'Callaghan

In December 2014, the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Venus Express probe was purposefully sent to its death in the atmosphere of Venus at the end of its mission. Now, scientists have revealed some of the science returned from that fatal plunge – and the results are truly fascinating.

The dip into the Venusian atmosphere began in June 2014. The spacecraft, which launched in November 2005, was nearing the end of its mission. With limited fuel available, scientists decided to make the most of a unique opportunity to probe unexplored regions of Venus, namely its upper atmosphere and its poles. The findings from this finale have now been published in the journal Nature Physics.

"None of Venus Express' instruments were actually designed to make such in-situ atmosphere observations,” said lead author Ingo Müller-Wodarg of Imperial College London, UK, in a statement. “We only realized in 2006 – after launch! – that we could use the Venus Express spacecraft as a whole to do more science."

What these results reveal is that parts of Venus are much, much colder than expected. The average temperature on Venus makes it the hottest world in the Solar System, with its thick atmosphere trapping heat and giving rise to scorching temperatures of 460°C (860°F) on the surface.

But measurements taken by Venus Express at an altitude of 130 to 140 kilometers (81 to 87 miles) above the surface have revealed the atmosphere near the poles has temperatures far below that on Earth. In fact, the polar atmosphere on Venus drops to -157°C (-251°F), which is 70 degrees colder than expected. It is also 22 to 40 percent less dense than thought.

"These lower densities could be at least partly due to Venus' polar vortices, which are strong wind systems sitting near the planet's poles,” said Müller-Wodarg. “Atmospheric winds may be making the density structure both more complicated and more interesting!"

Venus Express used the atmosphere of Venus to slow its velocity, known as aerobraking. ESA/C. Carreau

Another interesting finding was that the polar region is dominated by something known as atmospheric gravity waves. Don’t be fooled by the name, though; these are nothing to do with the more widely-known gravitational waves. Instead, atmospheric gravity waves are ripples in the atmosphere that travel vertically, from low to high altitudes, as the density decreases. We actually have some of these on Earth.

Venus Express found that there were atmospheric waves originating from the upper cloud layer on Venus, about 90 kilometers (56 miles) above the surface. In addition, larger-scale waves caused by the planet’s spin, known as planetary waves, were also found to be present.

To make these findings, Venus Express was required to perform aerobraking maneuvers, using the Venusian atmosphere to slow the spacecraft’s velocity. And this maneuver could have implications for the European Trace Gas Orbiter, currently on its way to Mars, which will use a similar technique to measure the composition of various gases in the Martian atmosphere.

Venus Express may have died a fiery death more than a year ago, but results from the mission are still turning up some surprises. And with Japan’s Akatsuki mission recently beginning its own science mission around Venus, it's clear there is still much to learn about the second planet from the Sun.

Project SERPO – The Exchange Program with Aliens from Zeta Reticuli (Part I)

Project SERPO – The Exchange Program with Aliens from Zeta Reticuli (Part I)

“First let me introduce myself. My name is [Request Anonymous]. I am a retired employee of the U.S. Government. I won’t go into any great details about my past, but I was involved in a special program.”

Thus began the first in a series of lengthy messages received in 2005 by a UFO discussion group moderated by a former U.S. Government employee by the name of Victor Martinez. The source of the messages requested that his identity remain undisclosed for fear of being prosecuted or even worse. And he had good reason, for calling the nature of his disclosures sensitive was an understatement.

According to the anonymous source, in the early 1950’s the government initiated Project Serpo, a top secret program intended to open communication channels between mankind (represented, of course, by the U.S. Government) and a race of extraterrestrials from Serpo, a planet located in the Zeta Reticuli star system.

Zeta Reticuli is a binary star system in the southern constellation of Reticulum. Although both stars are similar in size to our own sun, spectral analysis shows they are much younger, at around 2 billion years of age. Whether this interval is enough for a highly intelligent, spacefaring species to develop is not up to us to decide. Furthermore, the aliens inhabiting Serpo originated elsewhere in the galaxy.

The incident that led to this interplanetary connection was none other than the Roswell crash. Or, should I say–crashes, because there were two of them: one southwest of Corona, New Mexico and the other near Pelona Peak, which is a rock’s throw away from Datil, NM.

The crash involved two extraterrestrial aircraft. The Corona site was found a day later by an archaeology team. This team reported the crash site to the Lincoln county Sheriff’s department. A deputy arrived the next day and summoned a police officer. One live EBE [extraterrestrial biological entity] was found hiding behind a rock. The entity was given water but declined food. The entity was later transferred to Los Alamos,” the anonymous source wrote.

It’s interesting to note that the entity accepted water. This seems to suggest it might have shared a biology similar to our own and also cements the idea that life on Earth might have originated elsewhere in the universe. The EBE’s refusal to ingest food might have had cultural bases rather than physiological ones. Or maybe it wasn’t hungry enough.

Eventually the Roswell Army Air Field was notified of the crash and promptly intervened. After a thorough examination of the Corona site, all evidence was loaded onto flatbed trucks and carried away to an undisclosed location. A total of six extraterrestrial bodies were recovered and transported to the Los Alamos National Laboratory because the facility had a (then) recently-developed cooling system that allowed scientists to preserve the bodies for subsequent research.

The live alien was kept under strict surveillance at the same facility. Picture this: you’re being held captive by a decidedly inferior species, you’re the sole individual of your kind on an alien planet and the governing powers house you under the same roof as your fallen and frozen brethren. Now that’s adding insult to injury!

Another two years would pass until the second crash site would be discovered. It’s reasonable to expect that no survivors were found but the wreckage containing invaluable technology and desiccated bodies were whisked off to Sandia Army Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In the meantime, the live EBE had already established a means of communication with the scientists and top brass and we can assume they were very eager to know what he had to say. Yes, he, because his species also had male-female gender division.

The alien revealed the name of his homeworld: Eben. Its location was, like the title says, in the Zeta Reticuli star system. He also informed scientists about the various instruments and ultra advanced technology on board the two downed spacecraft. You can envision the power and demonstration hungry military officials pressuring the translators to squeeze more out of their extraterrestrial captive.

Until his death in 1952, the alien version of Robinson Crusoe (one that never gets to make a living on his own, but is rather captured by the savages) continued to provide information regarding the items inside the two spaceships. If we weren’t so understanding, we could probably blame him for all the triangle-shaped UFOs zipping silently above our heads. At least part of those must be man-made and operated, albeit using technology reverse-engineered from these early UFO crashes. Did you honestly believe aliens are responsible for all the sightings?

Before he died, the EBE managed to set up one of the communication devices present aboard one of their vehicles and contact his homeworld. The humans who oversaw this procedure must have been sitting on the outer edge of their seats until the response came back.

But back it came and things eventually turned out way better than they could have hoped for. They Ebens agreed to come visit! The date was set for April 1964 and, showing that punctuality is a must-have trait of advanced civilizations, they touched ground somewhere near Alamogordo, New Mexico. They unceremoniously retrieved the bodies of their kin and engaged in information exchange with the earthlings via a translation device. English was the chosen language, because they were the visitors and courtesy knows no planetary boundaries.

For the betterment of mankind, the Ebens agreed to set up an exchange program. Twelve members were carefully selected for the mission: 8 USAF, 2 U.S. Army and 2 U.S. Navy. Two of them were doctors, three were scientists, two were linguists, two of them handled security, two were pilots and the last one was the leader, an Air Force Colonel.

All of them were given alternate identities and they were effectively erased from all military and civilian records. It was as if they never existed in the first place and that made them ideal candidates for a mission from which they might never return. The 12 went through six months of rigorous training and were given the order to maintain contact with Earth via the already-established communication links.

As per their agreement, the aliens returned in 1965 and left one of their own behind shortly before whizzing lifting up the brave dozen. Their mission was supposed to last ten years, during which regular communication had to be maintained. But the best-laid plans of mice, men and aliens often go astray. The team’s transmissions to Earth HQ were sporadic at best and didn’t always include the greatest of news. Three years into their stay, one doctor and one of the security personnel died. Pneumonia and injury sustained from a fall were the culprits.

Five years after they’d left, communication stopped altogether. The U.S. Government was in the dark regarding Project Serpo, of which they had had such high expectations. But then, in 1978, three years after the agreed-upon return date, the Ebens came back and dropped off seven men and one woman. Two were dead and two had decided to remain behind.

They were placed in quarantine for a whole year during which they had plenty of time to debrief their superiors. As a matter of fact, the complete account they brought back is said to have numbered around 3,000 pages.

According to the crew members, the cosmic journey to Eben lasted only 9 months, despite the distance of 39 light-years that separates us from them.

FTL TRAVEL FTW!

Although it already had a name, the crew nicknamed the planet Serpo, hence the name of the top-secret project. With a diameter of 7,200 miles, it was slightly smaller than Earth. It had two moons, the day was 43 earth hours long and it revolved around its star in 865 earth days. The Eben Solar System numbered six planets. The Ebens had established bases on the one that was nearest to Serpo (nicknamed OTTO) but it was a lifeless world.

Silus, another of the planets in their Solar System had its own native lifeforms but none were intelligent. The Ebens mined it for minerals their homeworld lacked.

On Serpo, the heat was extreme (by human standards) and it took the crew a long time to adjust. Water was readily available but food was a problem. The team only brought enough food with them to last for two years so they eventually had to resort to eating native cuisine. At first, it caused them gastrointestinal problems but they eventually adapted. The human body is one versatile machine.

End of Part I.

The witness was driving along a dirt road heading toward a friend’s home about “one hour before sundown” on December 15, 2015, when the incident occurred.

“It was hovering low above the trees just past my destination,” the witness stated. “Ilaid eyes on it for 30 seconds, but kept driving out of fear.”

The object had unusual lighting.

“The two bright blue headlights were pointed straight at me like two square eyes. I knew it could see me.”

But the witness soon lost sight of the object.

“As I got closer, the treeline blocked my view or their view thankfully. An hour or so later after dark, I saw the afterburners of a military fighter jet heading south with no lights on the bottom or anywhere else. I calculated the object to be about 150-200 feet wide. I don’t know how long it sat there.”

Arkansas MUFON is investigating this case which was reported on March 31, 2016. Malvern is a city in and the county seat of Hot Spring County, Arkansas, population 10,318. Please remember that most UFO sightings can be explained as something natural or man-made. The above quotes were edited for clarity. Please report UFO activity to MUFON.com.

The First Phoenix Lights?

The First Phoenix Lights?

Ask any ufologist when strange lights were first seen by the residents of Phoenix and they wouldn’t hesitate to tell you it was somewhere around 8:30 pm on March 13, 1997. However, the correct answer might be earlier, by at least 88 years!

According to similar articles in the March 10, 1909 edition of the Arizona Republican and the March 18th edition of the Bisbee Daily Review, “strange lights” were seen over Camelback by Phoenix residents on March 9th. The light was described as being “about the size of a ten-cent piece held at arm’s length” and it “swayed to and fro and then remained stationary.”

“It was too high in the heavens to be the light from a fire on Camelback or one of the other peaks,” the newspapers reported. The light created quite a stir throughout the community and the time it first appeared and the duration of the sighting were carefully recorded as“14 minutes of 8, and blazed up for about 6 minutes.”

“Many varied theories were evoked” to try to explain this “peculiar light” and they ranged from bad to worse:

“One of the oldest inhabitants gave his opinion that the ball of fire held suspended between heaven and earth was a meteor or an asteroid that had become entangled, as it were, in the earth’s atmosphere, very much the same as a fly becomes enmeshed in the strands of a cobweb.”

Another bizarre explanation was described by the articles:

“The Star of Bethlehem theory had its supporters, but others argued that Bethlehem was not in that direction, and that the star, when it appeared, would not be seen perching on the top of Camelback.”

Bisebee Daily Review March 18, 1909.

Bisebee Daily Review March 18, 1909. Click to enlarge.

The Republican article offered more details and another wild theory:

“Others of the younger generation were of the opinion that it was the lantern of some marooned aeronaut who had anchored his sky boat to a cactus on account of the high wind.

“The attention of the police was called to the phenomenon and the entire force climbed to the top of the City Hall. The light was plainly visible but none of the learned ones could explain satisfactorily its presence.”

What an exciting night it must have been as Phoenix residents watched in amazement as this light “blazed” over Camelback, while the entire police force rushed to the top of City Hall! And how similar would the reaction of the inhabitants be 88 years later!?

While no explanation could be found for this mass sighting, not all newspaper reports of strange lights were as mystifying, although you wouldn’t know it from some accounts. The Bisbee Daily Review ran a short piece on September 7, 1909, describing “a strange light” in the western sky that had the “habit of appearing about 7 p.m. After that it drifts slowly away till it finally drops behind the White Tank mountains. The strange light has been doing this every night for the past week.”

The Arizona Republican ran a similar article, but also pointed out that Venus was a prominent feature in the western sky during this time, so the mystery was solved. Using the Stellarium program for Phoenix for early September 1911, I confirmed that Venus did appear in the western sky in the evening and set about an hour later in the vicinity of the White Tank mountains.

Bisbee Daily Review Sept 7, 1909

Bisbee Daily Review Sept 7, 1909

While these September sightings were resolved, another incident in April of 1911 defied explanation as a bright light appeared beneath the clouds for thirty minutes. In the April 16th edition of the Arizona Republican, the following appeared:

“A Strange Light—Many persons last night shortly before nine o’clock and until sometime after saw a curious light in the northwestern sky moving in that direction toward the horizon. It was in view about half an hour. The light was a bright one and seemed to move about like a searchlight. The only suggestion offered was that it was a dirigible balloon. A huge meteor at an immense distance would have apparently moved as slowly but the light could not have been a meteor for that part of the sky was obscured by light clouds at a great distance. The moving light was plainly this side of them.”

On November 15, 1918, the Arizona Republican featured an article with the headline, “Strange Search Light Illumines Country, Mystifies Credulous.” The article described a “strange searchlight of great power and penetration,” which “lighted the country east of Phoenix on Wednesday night. So strong were the rays of this strange light that they were thrown into windows of houses more than a mile away with such intensity that persons were enabled to read by the light.”

At the same time, “the electric lights were out in Phoenix” and the “street railway service was interrupted.” The official explanation for this blackout and the powerful searchlight, with which people could read over a mile away, was that “one of the wires of the high power transmission line in the Wilson district was burned in two, and the current was made to feed a powerful improvised searchlight.”

While not in the Phoenix area, and even earlier sighting was mentioned in the August 14, 1897 edition of The Argus: “A strange light was seen moving in the sky at Tombstone the other evening. It was visible for at least fifteen minutes. The airship theory has been revived.”

Arizona Republican Nov. 15, 1918.

Arizona Republican Nov. 15, 1918.

Of course, the years 1896-97 saw numerous mysterious airship sightings across the country. While many credible people saw these “airships,” the August 28th edition of The St. Johns Herald couldn’t resist poking fun at the witnesses by inferring that such sightings corresponded to lightning bug season.

What were these strange lights seen in 1909, 1911, and 1918? The year 1909 was an active one for sightings in the Hudson Valley of New York and New England, and indeed it was during my research into this wave of sightings that I came across these Phoenix cases. As no planes were yet flying at night or carrying lights, any conventional explanations would be limited to some type of balloon or dirigible. Further research would be needed to determine if anyone in the Phoenix area had any type of balloon or lighter-than-air craft that was equipped with a powerful searchlight and batteries, which would have been very heavy. It is not likely for that time period, but the possibility should be explored.

In the meantime, we may need to push back the timeline of the first appearance of the Phoenix Lights from 1997 to at least 1909, and continue the search for other such cases.

UFOs hounding the ISS: NASA finally speaks over 'aliens at space station'

NASA has finally spoken out following a flurry of claims from conspiracy theorists that alien space craft are monitoring the International Space Station (ISS).

There have been repeated claims UFOs are monitoring the ISS

The US space agency usually stays tight-lipped on the subject - due to the increasing number of seemingly outlandish claims about unidentified flying objects captured on live stream cameras mounted on the space station - but this only appears to fuel further the cover-up conspiracy theories.

Because NASA allows anyone to view the real-time cameras, which point out towards space by going online, many alien chasers devote hours to watching them looking or evidence of alien space craft.

There have been repeated claims that NASA shuts down the cameras after strange shapes begin appearing in space away from the ISS, currently occupied by UK astronaut Tim Peake and five others.

Yesterday, Express.co.uk exclusively revealed how a hoax buster had forensically examined footage from the live stream showing some of the alleged UFOs, and claimed to conclusively prove they were just reflected sunlight, known as lens flares, appearing on the camera.

NASA has now joined the debate and categorically denied it ever purposefully shuts off the live stream, or that any UFOs or alien craft have ever been detected from the ISS.

NASA spokeswoman

Tabatha Thompson, a NASA spokesperson, told ValueWalk.co.uk that video feeds losing transmission have occurred before and are an occupational hazard.

She said: "The station regularly passes out of range of the Tracking and Relay Data Satellites used to send and receive video, voice and telemetry from the station.

“For video, whenever we lose signal video comes down on our higher bandwidth, called KU. The cameras will show a blue screen indicating no signal or a preset video slate, depending on where you are watching the feed.”

Asked if NASA personal had any hand in stopping the video transmission, she said “no.”

NASA also confirmed the theory of UFO hoax buster Scott Brando, revealed by Express.co.uk yesterday, that the alleged UFOs are the result of camera lens flares.

A NASA spokesperson added: "Reflections from station windows, the spacecraft structure itself or lights from Earth commonly appear as artefacts in photos and videos from the orbiting laboratory.”

Alien hunters remain convinced NASA intentionally cuts off the camera safer UFOs appear and the explanations are all part of a global cover up.

Hillary Clinton tells 'alien abductee' national security could block UFO truth bid

US PRESIDENTIAL hopeful Hillary Clinton has conceded she may be blocked from revealing if the truth about alien visitations is "out there" if it is deemed to compromise national security.

Hilary Clinton wants to open the UFO X-Files

Hilary Clinton wants to open the UFO X-Files

Mrs Clinton, and her campaign manager John Podesta, have been claiming for months she will open the so-called top-secret X-Files if she makes it into the White House.

But, taking part in a radio talk show with a man who claims he was abducted by aliens, she accepted she could be blocked.

The Democrat frontrunner was campaigning in East Harlem, New York, when she took part in the Power 105.1 Breakfast Club.

Asked by one of the show's hosts, Lenard McKelvey - also known as Charlamagne the God - who believes he was abducted by aliens several times, if she would really deliver on her quest for truth about UFOs and the top-secret military base Area 51 in the Nevada desert, she said simply, “I am.”

However, she added a caveat that she will not be able to release any files that are closed due to national security.

She said: "I mean, if there’s some huge national security thing and I can’t get agreement to open them, I won’t, but I do want to open them because I’m interested.”

She was also pressed on whether she believes in aliens, adding: "I don’t know. I want to see what the information shows.

"But there are enough stories out there that I don’t think everybody is just sitting in their kitchen, making them up.

"I think that people see things. What they see, I don’t know. But we have got to try to give people information. I believe in that.”

The disclosure movement has long called for the release of all information about UFOs and alleged alien visitations from world governments, and is huge in the USA, where many sightings are reported.

It has led to some speculation Mrs Clinton may be just paying lip service to secure millions of voters across the country.

Hillary Clinton

Alejandro Rojas, editor and contributing writer for Open Minds magazine and OpenMinds.tv, said in an article about the radio show: "There has been a lot of debate as to why Clinton keeps discussing UFOs when asked.

"Typically, politicians gloss over the topic or make a joke of it. However, she has repeatedly answered confidently that she intends to look into the matter.

"The cynical view would be that Clinton has no interest in the topic, she is just pandering for the 'UFO vote'.”

But he said that politicians who previously dabbled in the issue had damaged their campaign, so she may have a genuine interest.

But, UFO expert Lee Speigel believes the “UFO vote” could number in the millions.

A 2012 National Geographic survey found 36 per cent of Americans believe extraterrestrials have visited Earth, while a staggering 80 per cent think the US government is covering this up for fear of the potential impact on society.

RELATED ARTICLES

Mr Speigel said: “That’s a lot of potential, UFO-friendly, registered voters.”

Both the presidential candidate and husband Bill Clinton have long sought answers over the issue.

Last month express.co.uk reported how the couple spent three years with late tycoon Laurence Rockefeller from 1993 trying to get information.

Disclosure campaigners now want them to explain why the bid failed.

Roswell UFO breakthrough? Investigators claim development after BIZARRE desert discovery

CONSPIRACY theorists claim cryptic rune-like symbols and an inverted Nazi swastika could mark a mysterious alien landing site in the US desert.

The cryptic site (right) and an alien from a hoax Roswell video

Alien hunter websites have been sent into overdrive after the mysterious discovery was made on Google Maps.

The claimed 'crash site' is around 70 miles from Roswell in New Mexico, where UFO legend has it that a flying saucer crashed in July 1947, and the US military covered it up.

The markings on the ground, seen in Google images, also include some that have been described by some conspiracy theorists as "Nazi occult symbols".

There are several long-standing conspiracy theories about Hitler and the Nazis experimenting with the occult and making contact with aliens in secret bases, including in the Antarctic, which have fuelled speculation about the new discovery.

Pseudo-science and archaeology website Ancient Origins has picked up on the images.

Its website said: "People have claimed that the enigmatic symbol found near Roswell is the result of Nazi occultism and even alien worship, due to its proximity to Roswell, where one of the most famous UFO sightings in history occurred."

Is this a swastika or sign of Buddha?

But Ancient Origins concluded the patterns were more likely made by the US Air Force as target practice for bombers.

It would not be the first time this has happened.

In 2007, the US Navy was forced into an embarrassing apology after satellite imagery exposed how the Coronado Naval Amphibious Base in San Diego had been designed in the swastika shape.

But others believe the Roswell symbols have been there much longer.

Ancient Origins added: "However, this theory isn’t widely accepted by everyone, as there are many people who believe that the enigmatic symbols spread across the land of New Mexico, date back hundreds of years."

Adding to the mystery is the fact the patterns are also close to the top-secret Area 51 US military base in the Nevada desert - where alien conspiracy theorists claim the "Roswell crashed UFO" was hidden away in 1947.

Scott C Waring, editor of UFOsightingsdfaily.com, is not one to sit on the fence when it comes to proof of aliens.

In a blog posting he took the leap from speculation to say it was a sign pointing out a hidden underground alien base.

While others wondered why a hidden base would have such an unusual "X marks the spot" highlighting it, he said it was to warn oil drillers to steer clear and avoid the cavernous dwelling.

He blogged: "This is not a symbol of Hitler's Nazis, but is the ancient buddha symbol that means pure goodness.

"Also in the writing in the rectangle above is alien symbols, very similar to those found at the Roswell UFO crash on small metal beams and parts.

"So you ask why are aliens writing in the middle of New Mexico?

"There are thousands of oil rigs in this location.

"This is a warning to humans not to damage their base underground."

Even dedicated followers of Mr Waring were not convinced.

Juz Staina posted in response: "I'm a bit surprised with your aviation background you didn't look at all the bombing ranges from back in the war mate, the reason I say this for the first time ever is the battleship is marked for where main guns are and bridge, also the swastika obviously has been added to resemble the basic aiming systems the bombers would have.

"This is the first time in two years I haven't 100% agreed mate!"

Did a UFO visit Kent?

Six lights appeared in the skies over Hythe and Folkestone on Sunday morning, and remained there for half an hour.

It had been thought that maybe the lights were caused by flares being shot, but the Ministry of Defence has denied the use of any activity in the area during the period.

“UFO sightings in these areas have increased dramatically in the past few years.”

One of the most famous cases came in 1997 when defence chiefs received reports of a mysterious object in the sky over Folkestone.

Several witnesses reported seeing the triangle and the RAF carried out an investigation.

Sophie Wadleigh, 25, from Hythe, said: “It was so peculiar, it all felt really odd and I heard this humming noise.

“As I looked across the field I saw a large triangular-shaped flying craft hovering about 300 metres off the ground.”

Date of sighting: January 29, 2016
Location of sighting: Montana, USA

For a long time, farmers of cattle across the planet had to deal with animal mutilations and all the evidence points to most of the incidents having really happened and that the animals were surgically opened, with parts missing. I am currently looking for the person who posted these photo, till then, what do you think?

Scott C. Waring

News states:

Unbelievable Montana, USA 29/02/2016 Cattle mutilation (also known as bovine excision[1]) is the killing and mutilation of cattle under unusual, usually bloodless and anomalous circumstances. Worldwide sheep, horses, goats, pigs, rabbits, cats, dogs, deer and elk have been reported mutilated with similar bloodless excisions, often an ear, eyeball, jaw flesh, tongue, genitals and rectum are removed. Since the time that reports of animal mutilations began, various explanations have been offered ranging from natural decomposition and normal predation, to cults and secretive governmental and military agencies, to a range of unscientific speculations including as cryptid predators (like the Chupacabra), and extraterrestrials. Mutilations have been the subject of two independent federal investigations in the United States.

Phoenix airport employee reports UFO near tower

The witness was outside at the airport “disposing of trash” about 9 p.m. on March 1, 2016, when the incident occurred.

“The lights were what I noticed at first,” the witness stated.“They were white and formed a chevron shape that allowed me to notice the shape of the object. It was very large as it passed beside me. I was near the tower, so I knew it was high, but not too high as for me not to get an idea how large this object was.”

There were other possible witnesses to the UFO.

“The planes at Terminal 4 were lined up and nothing was moving. I was in total disbelief that it was happening. It made no noise at all.”

The witness described the object’s movement.

“As I observed the object,it travelednortheast over to the Sky Train Station. I lost view of the lights then. It was darker than the sky with the exception of the lights emanating from the bottom where it was black.”

The witness did not feel afraid.

“I didn’t feel anything but shock as I pondered what had just taken place. The lights where I was dumping the trash had a nonfunctional light. It was not changed until a few days later. So I knew a glare would not have affected what I had seen. The tug I had used to drive there was off so no other light source was close enough to hamper my vision. This event lasted just about five minutes or so. I felt calm and no sense of danger or apprehension afterwards. Just a sense of wonder and amazement that something so huge could travel in the air and not make any noise.”

Arizona MUFON Field Investigator Valerie Edwards is investigating. The witness provided one illustration with the report, which was filed on April 6, 2016.
