The Filer Research Institute feels the scientific study of UFOs is for the benefit of humankind and is an important endeavor. The weekly intelligence report provides you with information on the latest sightings and UFO news that you need to understand the world situation. The purpose of these files is to report the UFO eyewitness and photo/video evidence that occurs on a daily basis around the world and in space. These Files assume that extraterrestrial intelligent life not only exists, but my hypothesis is that the over a thousand UFOs reported each month represent technologically advanced spacecraft conducting surveillance of Earth. I personally became interested in UFOs when London Control ordered me to intercept one over England while flying for the US Air Force and Prince Phillip told me of his personal interest in UFOs. The US Air Force investigated UFOs for more than twenty years under Project Blue Book; and I continue this advanced research. I believe the God of the universe has spread life throughout the cosmos and UFO’s are visiting us in ever-increasing numbers.

Extraterrestrial Life Exists

Arjun Walia writes, “A couple of months ago top U.S. astronomers gathered in front of congress to let them know that extraterrestrial life exists without question. Their main argument was the size of the universe, emphasizing that there are trillions of stars out there, with one in every five most likely harboring an Earth-like planet. This time, NASA and the Library of Congress have teamed up bringing together scientists, theologians, philosophers and historians from around the globe for a two day symposium in order to discuss how to prepare the world for extraterrestrial contact, whether it be microbial organisms or intelligent beings.

“We’re looking at all scenarios about finding life. If you find microbes, that’s one thing. If you find intelligence, it’s another. And if they communicate, it’s something else, and depending on what they say, it’s something else! The idea is not to wait until we make a discovery, but to try and prepare the public for what the implications might be when such a discovery is made. I think the reason that NASA is backing this is because of all the recent activity in the discovery of exoplanets and the advances in astrobiology in general. People just consider it much more likely now that we’re going to find something — probably microbes first and maybe intelligence later. Montana Landing in 1940

Townsend, Montana — Kenneth Larson writes, the 37-year-old Mormon missionary and miner Udo Wartena said he boarded a hovering UFO and talked for two hours with two humanoids in early May of 1940. One thing I should make clear is that Mormon history accounts describe how three year serving Mormon missionaries believe in other worlds out in space that have inhabited beings and that a celestial New Jerusalem space city some 1,500 miles long and wide will come down from God out of heaven to Earth with celestial beings inside. Mormons also believe in a created Earth that obeys the laws of a celestial kingdom and is a creation by the Creator.

Alien Woodstock in Malibu

Mike Luckman writes, “A retired member of the military who is a ham radio operator picked up and recorded strange alien-like signals apparently coming from the alleged underwater UFO base in Malibu, California. You can listen to the unusual signals by clicking on the links below. Dwarka Underwater City

What have all the ancient civilizations on Earth got in common? “Answer they could not have been built or existed without language.” So if the Dwarka under sea site is as old has been suggested then the people who built it must have had a language. No such development on such a large scale can be undertaken without the use of language. So the question remains were the Sumerians the first to have a language? Hmmm… Such questions as this and the fact that human edifices/settlements are now being discovered well below sea level will undoubtedly put the archaeological fraternity into a whirl and, of course, it will mean they will have to remodel the time scales for Modern Man’s existence on planet Earth. The point is such finds lend more weight to the Ancient Alien’ theories.

What are the archaeological institutions globally really making of the finds? Ignoring them? I don’t think so; not unless they’re being pressured to do so. It doesn’t add up. Makes one ask the question, what is archaeology?

Rendlesham Forest Incident

I’ve been meaning to gives this snippet to Nick Pope as I believe he is going to write about the Rendlesham Forest Incident. So I’ll air it on your site…
I’m not certain if Ufologists have made contact with any of the civilian work force or contractors who were working on the airbases at the time of the incident but I met a chap who was working on one of the bases while the flap’ was on.
I was watching the program “UFO’s: The Untold Story” on the Rendlesham Forest UFO incident was being aired and it prompted me to write this:

About 2006, my daughter and I visited my mother in Brandon, Suffolk a mile from RAF Lakenheath and stopped in a dirt lay-by close to where the jets prepare to take off. While parked I noticed a serious plane spotter that was able to listen in on the control tower chatter and had the photographic kit to match. I plucked up courage to have a word with him and asked if he’d seen anything strange on the base or in the skies and told him I had an interest in UFO’s. After a little while, as I was about to leave he asked me. “If I knew anything of the Rendlesham UFO Incident?” He whispered, he was working as a contractor on one of the bases during the time of the incident and he and other contractors were marched off into a hangar where they were informed/threatened by a high ranking official never to divulge to anyone the events that took place in the forest during the fateful nights in December 1980. Kingdom of Shu and Cancong it’s God-King

MUFON’s Bob Spearing www.worldufowatch.com writes, “In Sichuan Province, China far from the Yellow River where Chinese culture was first thought to have developed, in a place called Sanxingdui, a remarkable culture, 3,000 to 5,000 years old, was discovered that turned Chinese history on its head several decades ago.

Thousands of artifacts radiocarbon dated to the 12th through 11th centuries BC were discovered in pits including intriguing bronze masks of beings with almond shaped eyes and large ears that are very un-Asian. In one case the mask’s eyes protrude so far out and are so alien looking that they are said to belong to the culture’s first God-Man-King known as Cancong who supposedly ruled for hundreds of years!!! According to the Chronicles of Huayang compiled in the Jin Dynasty (265–420 AD), Cancong was described as having protruding eyes. As obviously abhorrent looking as he was, he was beloved by his people.

This ancient kingdom was known as Shu. Pictographs of Shu are represented by a stylized eye over an insect. Cancong was believed to have brought silkworm farming and silk production to his people. Thus the protruding eyed God and his insect technology were the defining symbols of his culture. He is often depicted as wearing green robes – the color of the silkworm.

Some of the masks of Cancong were enormous being over two feet by three feet and surely belonged covering the face of a God! Cancong reigned for several hundred years during the Xia (17th-15th cent. BC), Shang (17th-11th cent. BC) and early Zhou (11th cent.-221 BC) periods.

King Congong

A sprawling city for its time to rival Yellow River Dynasties, Sanxingdui was abandoned suddenly around 1,000 BC. No one knows where they came from although some legends say they came from another place or world. As mysteriously as they came, they went.

Now who was Cancong who lived for several hundred years and who may have been much larger than mortal humans? What about his eyes? As you can see from the photo no human ever had eyes like Cancong. Are they indeed eyes or are they light rays emanating from his eyes! Or are they some sort of lenses? The pictograph rendering of the stylized eye can be interpreted as “vertical eyed man.”

Did light emanate from his eyes? Did he wear special lenses to see properly in our light spectrum? Or did he indeed have eyes that protruded out several inches from his skull in some alien fashion? Was Cancong even a human being? Could he have been at least partly an android? Certainly a robot could survive hundreds of years unlike a human being. No one has ever found Cancong’s tomb. And Cancong brought an advanced technology to the kingdom that insured their survival. Adding to the intrigue are several totems and statues of birds that are also very un-Asian.

In one case, a representation of a bird with little to no correspondence to known Chinese Art bears an uncanny resemblance to a Thunderbird of Pacific Northwest Native American Cultures. See the photo of the side by side comparison of the wooden Thunderbird representation and the Sanxingdui bronze statue. The museum at Sanxingdui identified the bird in their totems as an Osprey which is an ocean-going bird. How does a land-locked central Asian culture come to have the symbol of the Osprey in their art even though the ocean was a thousand miles away? Was it a bird at all or some sort of aerial vehicle capable of long distance flight?

And what of the mysterious Thunderbirds? UFOlogists have theorized that perhaps they weren’t even live animals but air-going ships made of metal as some tales suggest. Other legends portray them as shape shifters capable of turning into humans – aliens perhaps? Lightning generated from a thunderbird’s eyes (a weapon?) and thunder clapped when it flapped its wings (an engine?).

Finally a word about Shu’s other legendary kings! According to Chronicles of Huayang, King Yufu symbolized the Cormorant – another ocean bird like the Osprey. King Duyu taught the people agriculture and transformed into a Cuckoo after his death – yet another bird reference. Stranger at the Pentagon

The author Dr. Frank Stranges an evangelical minister — claims he was escorted inside the Pentagon where he met a human-looking being from another planet. The alien had no finger prints and could read minds and had a space suit that could not be cut or burned. Dr Stranges claims the being — known as Val Thor — has a spiritual message to give to earth if its inhabitants will only listen.

Coalition against ISIS is Growing

More than 50 countries have signed up, so far, to support the military fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Jordan have participated in attacks in Syria, while Qatar hosts an air base used by the coalition. France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium and Britain are among European countries contributing to U.S. efforts to hit the Islamic State group in Iraq.

RAF Tornado jets {above} were unleashed above Iraq on Saturday as Britain threw its military might behind the coalition.

Armed British RAF jets have been deployed on their first mission in Iraq while Australia is delivering military supplies to Kurdish military forces. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on October 1, 2014, “Turkey will fight against Islamic State and other “terrorist” groups in the region but will stick to its aim of seeing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad removed from power.”

At the head of the Islamic State is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi born in the northern Iraqi town of Samarra in 1971, Baghdadi grew up a Sunni in a devout family and obtained a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from the Islamic University of Baghdad.

Baghdadi was detained in Camp Bucca by U.S. forces and released in 2009. He rose through the ranks of Al Qaeda in Iraq becoming its leader in 2010. Baghdadi’s elevated status also landed him on the U.S. State Department’s terror list, with a $10 million bounty on his head.

He joined the fighting in Syria and broke away from al-Qaeda to become “ISIS” and eventually declaring it had restored a period of historic Islamic rule known as a caliphate and re-naming itself the Islamic State.

Now calling himself Caliph Ibrahim, Baghdadi is the self-styled religious and political ruler of the territory his group seized. A reclusive leader, his last public appearance was a lengthy sermon in July in which he urged his followers to fight “the enemies of Allah.”

His beliefs are part of a distorted version of a fundamentalist 18th century form of Islam known as Wahabbism, texts of which are circulated in areas under Islamic State control.

The military prowess of ISIS is credited to Tarkhan Batirashvili, a top Islamic State leader, which translates to “Omar the Chechen.” The Republic of Chechnya, a subdivision of the Russian Federation has fought two wars against Russia with Islamic militants fighting for independence for Chechnya. “The lessons learned battling Russian troops for three decades, is now being used by the ISIS fighters who just captured an important Iraqi Army Base near Bagdad and dozens of Syrian Kurdish towns near the Turkish border.

Batirashvili is just one of more than 800 Russian militants from Chechnya who have joined the Islamic State. Experts say Chechens are emerging as one of the largest groups of foreign fighters in Syria, which pose a serious problem for U.S. efforts to fight the Islamic State. Murad Margoshvili, a well-known Chechen leader who built a terrorist training base in Syria to teach foreign fighters combat skills. Chechen training is largely responsible for the success of the Islamic State.

In the jihadist world, there are levels of fear and respect, and the Chechen’s occupy the top. The head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said five anti-ISIS Kurdish fighters, including three women, and four Syrian Arab rebels were detained and beheaded on Tuesday near the Turkish border. Particularly upsetting to the Islamic State is that they are being bombed by a female F-16 pilot from

the United Arab Emirates.

Social media has been buzzing with rumors that F-16 pilot Major Mariam al-Mansouri led attacks against the jihadist group with many users taking delight in the rebuke it implied toward the militants’ jihadist ideology.

Telomere Science the Secret of Long Life

Your body has trillions of cells that that as you read this article are dividing furiously to keep you alive and well. The process is directed by genes sitting on the 23 pairs of chromosomes found in the nucleus of each and every cell. The chromosomes are long sequences of DNA that contain all our genetic material. Each pair of chromosomes consists of one from your mother and one from your father and they are twisted around each other to form a structure called the double helix.

At the ends of each chromosome known as telomeres that protect the rest of the chromosome are little bits of DNA that are critical to healthy cell function and have been likened to the plastic tips on shoelaces, because they prevent the chromosome from “fraying.” Telomeres become progressively shorter each time the cell divides. When they get too short, cells can no longer divide. The result can be the various serious conditions associated with old age and disease.

Scientists have only recently begun to understand the critical importance of shortened telomeres. Research has shown that people who have long telomeres are healthier with greater heart and immune system health than their age-matched counterparts with shorter telomeres. Thus, it is becoming understood that maintaining telomere length is preventing age-related decline.

The phenomenon of cellular aging was first noted by Professor Lenhard Hayflick in 1961. He discovered that cells cannot divide beyond a specific number of times. This is called the Hayflick Limit. Cells reaching this limit become old and may fail to regenerate. Although it took almost 30 more years before the role telomeres play in cellular aging was finally understood. In 1990, Calvin Harley at McMaster University in Canada and Carol Greider at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in the USA discovered that telomere shortening goes hand-in-hand with the aging process and is the direct cause of cells reaching the Hayflick Limit.

The Nobel Prize was awarded to Dr. Bill Andrews’ team in 2009, for discovering Telomerase, the enzyme that lengthens telomeres and allows your cells to duplicate and regenerate.

Sightings in the United States

Arizona Triangle of Lights

Chandler – I was in my backyard with a friend watching a green light that appeared to be an airplane flying at normal cruising altitude in the NE sky. Suddenly a fiery tail appeared that looked like an engine fire. I thought I was witnessing an airplane crash. The object continued “on fire” at speed along a straight SE trajectory. I called my wife to come outside to watch.

After two minutes, three objects split off from the original and started to curve down and away from the original object. All had fiery tails and looked the same as the original object and traveled at the same speed. I started feeling nauseous as it reminded me of the space shuttle that blew up. These three objects spiraled down slowly and changed directions several times as they weaved around. They lost their fiery tails and appeared as green lights interacting with each other and eventually disappeared. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Yuma — My mother, stepbrother, my few months old daughter and I were at the drive in Movie Theater in September 1976. The movie was boring so I kept looking around and saw dim lit lights that I assumed was an airliner. After about 20 minutes, I realized this silent “plane” was not moving and I pointed loudly saying “LOOK LOOK it’s there!” as it began moving toward us. It was a very dark object, but the closer it came the better I could see its shape. It flew over our truck, but my mother and stepbrother still couldn’t see it. A lady in a car next to use began trying to see it. It moved upward, tilted and that is when I saw the brighter lights on the bottom of this object. I screaming for them to see it! At that moment it began moving, wobbling, and began going upward changing into a typical saucer shape.

My stepbrother saw it and said, “I see it!” At that time it began flopping from one side to the other. With each flop it got smaller like it was moving away. My mother saw it just before it went away and left twinkly sparkles behind it. Thanks to MUFON CMS

California Changing Disc

Quincy – On September 14, 2014, I noticed an object not making a sound or moving fast at all more like a worm just moving extremely slow in the sky. While filming officers driving to the airport to investigate I captured a ufo within and less than one second in the beginning of the video attached.

Los Angeles — I was sitting on my bed and noticed a glow coming from outside so got my camera and went outside September 9, 2014, and start taken pictures of it hovering over down town. Notice the dim lights on far right. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Colorado Disc

Frisco – I was going on a camp retreat and as we went through this little town I decided to take pictures of the old Gold mine that was there. We were in our bus still, and as I was going through my pictures on October 1, 2014, I noticed that there was this black disc looking object. As I zoomed in I couldn’t believe my eyes. I knew it was a UFO and being that it appeared out of nowhere. The photos I had taken seconds before had no disc in them; only the one taken in July of last year had the disc. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Indiana Blue Light

Bloomington — My boyfriend had taken the dogs for a walk before bed, and he came in and told me to come outside on September 25, 2014. When I walked out onto our porch there was a large diamond “star-like” shape, or rainbow flashes of light. It was pulsating and flashing different colors in a precise order. It was silent and hovering. I am an avid believer in extra-terrestrial intelligent life but, I was racking my brain to think of anything else this might be. The colors were so bright. I got cold and went back inside. After about an hour I came back out to check on the object and it was gone. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Kentucky Lights

Pendleton County — Glenn Pennington here with a few pictures for you. Glenn lives on a several hundred acre farm in Northern Kentucky forty miles south of Cincinnati. He is a farmer and outdoorsman who has trouble sleeping at night and observes UFOs above his home on almost every night.

He sends images to me periodically. He reports his animals are often excited and fearful of the UFOs.

Massachusetts Orb

East Longmeadow – On September 25, 2014, I was waving to my son from my front window as he left and noticed a bright red/orange object in the sky. It was silently floating north and took a sharp turn heading west. Two other objects joined forming a giant triangle flying at no more than 500 feet.

I went outside to get a closer look, as the objects headed west for 5 minutes, when the rear two objects that flanked the first object vanished. The first object maintained a western path, headed toward the Agawam/Southwick area. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Michigan Disc

Taylor – I had taken a short walk down my street to photograph fall colors of the trees on September 24, 2014. I took seven pictures, came back home and downloaded them onto my computer. It was then I saw an object or disc above the largest tree. It only appeared in one picture. I did not see it at the time I took the picture. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Missouri Dark Object

This photo was taken by a friend, while on his delivery route in July of 2014. He wanted to take a photo of the long gravel road and the corn fields in this secluded rural area.

When he noticed the object in the sky while looking at the photo the next day, he wanted to show it to me because he knows that I have always been very interested in the UFO phenomenon, and was a member and field investigator with MUFON in the past. If possible, I would be interested in hearing someone else’s conclusions upon analyzing this photo. Thanks to MUFON CMS

New York Lights

Rochester — It has been here for the last two nights so I used a tablet and got video of it on the 24^th September and again on 25th. I was at my girlfriend’s parent’s house for her sister’s birthday party at Pyane Beach, Lake Ontario. I went out at dusk to see if I could finally see the little dipper but I saw something on horizon that shot towards me. I asked my girlfriend and her father to come look but he could not see it, she saw it instantly. I grabbed their binoculars and could see a round object with lights flashing red.

When I got home to Rochester I realized I could see a couple UFOs so I went to my friend’s place and we both saw it with binoculars and recorded it. Pennsylvania Light

Philadelphia– At 9 PM, on September 21, 2014, I was flying to Philadelphia twenty minutes before landing I saw a strange light in formation with the Delta Airlines aircraft. I put the Galaxy camera phone against the window and took this photo. The lights on the wing are shown at the bottom of the photo.

The light may be a reflection off a cloud from the aircraft’s green warning light, although clouds were not noticed. The light is at the end of the wing that is not visible in the photo. The light may be some sort of ball lighting or unexplained phenomena. Thanks to MUFON CMS

South Dakota’s Black Hills

My wife and I took a vacation to Mt. Rushmore in on the third of September 2014, and was taking lots of pictures with my point and shoot Contax 35mm camera. After getting them developed I noticed two separate objects above the stone heads of the presidents. My wife thinks they’re birds, but I say they’re too big to be birds. I would like to send you the picture but as you can see my camera is not digital. As with most pictures of these objects their a little fuzzy. Thanks to Greg Martin

Virginia Light

While flying from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Atlanta, Georgia I looked east out the window and saw a bright ball of light with a trail on September 28, 2014. The ball of light was at the frontend of the trail. The light was pulsating at a slow rate but was very bright and noticeable.

I’m not sure if it was a sun beam as there were a few clouds in the sky. The sun had just risen about 45 minutes earlier. After enlarging the photo, I noticed an object below and to the left of the ball of light. Thanks to MUFON CMS

West Virginia Triangle of Lights

Elkins — My wife and I were driving south from Elkins on the Beverly Pike, between 8:35 and 8:40 PM and we both noticed two bright orange lights, hanging low in the sky on September 25, 2014. They were too low to be normal air traffic, and too high to be anything earthbound. The light on the right was higher than the one on the left, suggesting the object had just banked to change direction. We watched the lights get closer as the object was traveling north in the opposite direction of travel from us. We noticed a third dim white light in the front of the object, thus forming a triangle of lights. As we got closer I noticed the orange lights were hourglass shaped in a flat black triangle. The object traveled directly over a huge shopping center and several neighborhoods. We pulled over to watch as the object slowly passed by – at 30-40 knots. This thing was huge with a 100 yard wing span. I saw no discernible control surfaces, canopy, or windows. As the object passed by us, it disappeared as if using a cloaking device. Australia Bright Light

Worrigee — My husband was outside this evening around 7:45 PM, on September 23, 2014, and called me outside to see a bright light in the sky. The light was extremely bright, brighter than any star or aircraft in the sky. The light was moving fairly slowly east and turned north moving erratically then slowly fading out as the light disappeared. It was truly interesting, prompted us to look online for information and found similar sightings over prior year in the Nowra area. We are located at, near Greenwell Point Road and Worrigee Road. Canada Triangle

Oshawa – On Sunday, August 10, 2014 outside washing my car and I could hear a high humming sound and looked up to the north – maybe quarter mile away several thousand feet high I saw three bright red ruby lights in a triangular formation.

I ran into the house for my camera as they headed west. I started to take pictures as it headed over Whitby, Ontario at 9:20 pm

The formation headed southwest towards Ajax. In examining this last photo it reveals a structure between the three lights that might verify a triangle UFO craft. It was quite large with lights 100 to 200 yards apart. It is again interesting to note that August 10, 2014 was a Full Moon cycle. Thanks to Paul Shishis

Loja — We have noticed these blinking lights of red, blue, green, and white in the night sky for over a year now, so on September 25, 2014, we bought a telescope and positioned it in our backyard on the one of the stationary blinking lights in the sky.

India Lights

Mumbai — I have an authentic picture of a UFO sighting taken on a Beach near the city of Mumbai. We were a bunch of friends who went to chill in the suburbs after work. We were taking pictures and we all of a sudden we saw six bright lights in the picture in an angular formation. We looked around the sky and could not see them anywhere. Chennai – I was on my terrace where I normally sleep watching my sitcoms on September 25, 2014. A flash/strobe of light got my attention. The light was huge and I feared thunderstorms which normally follow by rains. So I looked up in the sky and was amazed to witness sequences of lights that I never witnessed before. The objects/lights where really huge and far as they flew southeast. They were over 10 emitting light and some of them where dull. Italy Flying Object

Blacksburg – We were vacation sightseeing and took pictures on September 22, 2014. The object was not there when we took the pictures, but was on the pictures.

New Zealand UFO

Greytown, Wairarapa — I don’t know if what we saw was a UFO, but I cannot explain what it was. We were walking home in Greytown and saw what looked like a search light in the sky ahead of us on September 21, 2014, at 6.45 pm. It did not appear to be very high off the ground and there was no sound. A light was pointing forward and was on for about 5 seconds before it turned off. Once the big light went out two small lights remained on and moved together. The distance between these two lights was larger than a big plane. William Puckett reports, “I have received several photos from this photographer in England and this is one of the more interesting photos that he has sent. The photo appears to show a disk shaped object at the immediate rear of a commercial jet. Thus far I have been unable to prove that any of this photographer’s photos are fabrications. The photographer saw the object through his viewfinder and used a very high resolution camera to take the photos. Perhaps there is a rational explanation for the object in this photo. UFO mania: The Forbidden Land of Agartha and the Thule Secret Society

In 1943, German Navy Grand Admiral Karl Doenitz stated that the German submarine fleet had “built for the Führer an impregnable fortress at the other end of the world,” in the region of Queen Maude’s Land, Antarctica, later renamed Neuschwabenland.

According to German naval archives, two months after Germany surrendered to the Allies in April, 1945, the German submarine U-530 left the Port of Kiel bound for Antarctica.

Once the submarine arrived at the South Pole, 16 members of its crew were ordered to construct an ice cave in the region of Neuschwabenland. The German U-boat then entered the Argentinean port of Mar-del-Plata and surrendered to authorities.

In August, 1945, one month and seven days after the surrender of U-530, U-977 also entered the waters of Mar-del-Plata and surrendered to authorities.

In 1946, Operation Highjump commenced as part of the U.S. Naval Antarctic Developments Project, organized by Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal.

The task force consisted of over 40 ships, including two destroyer class vessels and the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Philippine Sea, and a number of planes that were outfitted with a trimetricon (a secret spying camera), a magnetometer (to record any magnetic anomalies), and the recently developed jet-assist takeoff bottles (JATO) which helped with takeoffs from the short runway on an aircraft carrier or for takeoffs on hard ice.

It has been long thought by researchers that the Navy’s mapping story was nothing more than a cover to shield the real operation.

They were looking for the underground Nazi base (Base-211) that warehoused German Vril flying discs known as flugscheiben and Thule mercury-powered spaceship prototypes also known as jenseitsflugmaschines.

In 1947, Admiral Richard Byrd said:

“the project was necessary for the USA to take defensive actions against enemy fighters which come from the polar regions.”

Was he referring to potential Soviet aircraft or Nazi Luftwaffe attacking the States from Antarctica? He never clarified.

Shortly after Admiral Byrd’s press conference the Soviet naval journal, Red Fleet, stated that:

“US measures in Antarctica testify that American military circles are seeking to subject the Polar Regions to control and create permanent bases for their armed forces.”

In another odd twist, the governments of New Zealand, Australia and Chile asked for their militaries to join the Operation Highjump expedition but were denied participation.

In 1948, a second task force named Operation Windmill was also sent to take photographs of Neuschwabenland, again supposedly for mapping purposes.

Although they apparently succeeded in their task, the government has yet to make these photos available to the public and no reason has ever been given for their nondisclosure.

Some believe that the reason the photos have never been released is that this military operation was actually a reconnaissance and recovery mission.

In 1949 Secretary of Defense James Forrestal, a close friend of Admiral Byrd, was sent to stay at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

He began to discuss Operation Highjump with the hospital staff, talking wildly about UFOs, Atlantis, and an underground Nazi city. He was denied visitors, including his wife, and shortly afterwards "fell" out of his hospital window to his death.

The official report said that he committed suicide but persistent rumors say that he was murdered by government agents to keep him from talking further about what was really found in the Antarctica wilderness during Operation Highjump.

The entire truth of the matter may never come to light, but what is known is that numerous U.S. military personnel surprisingly lost their lives during Operation Highjump; a supposed mapping operation that should have been an entirely safe endeavor.

Also, multiple planes were downed during the operation, including the George One which, according to Naval documents, mysteriously “just blew up” over the ice during its initial flight in Antarctica.

According to British Intelligence, we know that advanced, stealth foo fighters and Vril flying saucer-shaped craft were developed and tested at the German Institute for Aerial Development.

Another motive associated with Nazi involvement in Antarctica is that it was rumored to be the entrance to the lost Aryan homeland of Thule. While Antarctica has been linked to the lost continent of Atlantis, the linkage to Thule is less apparent.

Thule (also known as Thula, Thyle, Thila, Tila, Tyle, or Tylen, among other cognates) was first written about by the Greek explorer Pytheas after his travels between 330 BC and 320 BC.

In 150 AD, Greek writer Antonius Diogenes wrote The Wonders Beyond Thule. While of literary interest, this work did little to reveal any secrets about Thule.

In medieval geographies Thule was referred to as distant place located beyond the “borders of the known world.” Occult mystics believe in historical Thule (also referred to as Hyperborea) as the ancient origin of the Aryan race.

Just what was the US military doing in Antarctica in 1946 and 1947? Were they on a routine mapping mission or were they engaging remnant Nazi fighters with advanced alternative technology?

Did the Nazis truly build a military base in the Antarctic or hide vast amounts of gold there in hopes of funding a future effort to resurrect the Fourth Reich? Or did they, as some claim, discover the lost land of Atlantis or Thule?

We may never know for sure, but in 2001 the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the Support Office for Aero-geophysical Research confirmed the existence of a magnetic anomaly on the eastside shore of Lake Vostok in Antarctica, consistent with a man-made construct.

More recently, in October 2006, the Scripps Institute of Oceanography reported that they discovered several previously unknown lakes of water underneath the vast ice sheet of Antarctica. These lakes lie beneath 2,300 feet of compressed snow and ice.

Could this anomaly be part of an underground Nazi base that U.S. agents searched for during Operation Highjump? Something has indeed been discovered in Antarctica. One of the questions that begs to be asked is did the Nazis find, whatever it is, first?

A book published in 1978, called Secret Nazi Polar Expeditions, relates how the Germans had taken a ship with a small airplane on it that they launched from their ship after reaching the ice near Antarctica.

It flew over the ice to Antarctica, presumably on a scouting flight, and then back to the ship. But the book didn't say anything about what it supposedly found or what the Nazi party elite believed was an entrance to the inner (hollow) earth.

An interesting document has recently surfaced obtained by a Joe Watson of Talkeetna, Alaska.

Mr. Watson claims it is a copy of a letter written on 2 March 1985 in the German language from a German submarine crewman who was on board. In it is given certain coordinates for their mission, which apparently was to travel to the center of the earth.

Their submarine was called U-209 under Captain Heinrich Brodda. The image below is a copy of the original hand-written letter from Karl Unger, crew member of the German U-209, as well as an English translation (click to enlarge).

In it Karl confirmed that the earth was indeed hollow and that they had successfully reached the inner inhabited earth in the German U-209 submarine after World War II had destroyed Germany.

The letter was sent to his friend here on the surface world who gave a copy of it to a Mr. Woodard, who gave a copy to Joe Watson. Karl had sent the letter from the hollow earth through a German colony in Brazil that had found a cavern that reaches to the hollow earth many years previous.

This German colony in Brazil is documented in Genesis For a New Age, having supposedly discovered the cavern entrance back in the 1500's. When one does a search at the German archive website looking for information on the missing U-209 German submarine, it shows that the submarine was indeed reported missing.

On July 5, 1943 was it's last reported position between Greenland and Iceland at coordinates 52°00'N-38°00'W. The report said the Commander of the submarine was Heinrich Brodda.

In addition, documents obtained by the soviets at the close of WW2 recently surfaced which shows a 1944 map from the Third Reich detailing not only the direct passageway used by German U-boats to access this subterranean domain, but also a complete map of both hemispheres of the inner realm of Agharta, the mythical name of the inhabited subterranean world (click image to enlarge).

If that seems too unbelievable, compare with those maps, this map done by the famed Tyrolean cartographer and artist Heinrich C. Berann for the National Geographic Society beginning in 1966.

The following map clearly shows the continent of Antarctica without its cover of ice:

The intriguing detail here is that there are underwater passageways that run nearly the entire length of the continent and seem to converge at the exact location identified as the opening into the deep inner or subterranean earth.

Jean-françois Clervoy est diplômé de l’Ecole polytechnique, de l’Ecole nationale supérieure de l’aéronautique et de l’espace, détaché par la Délégation générale pour l’armement auprès du CNES en 1983, puis auprès de l’Agence spatiale européenne depuis 1992. Was this UFO just another hallucination?

In another post I pointed out that the easiest way to systematically explain away sightings of weird phenomena consists of merely asserting that the witnesses have experienced long-lived and complex hallucinations.

Besides fantasy-prone personality, another explanation consists of the hypothesis that people witnessing UFOs are actually experiencing hallucinations spawned by magnetic fields which appear very real to them.

Interestingly, this speculative approach isn't only applied to putative extraterrestrial apparitions but also to poorly understood phenomena, thereby denying their physical reality.

The mysterious ball lightings represent a good example.

Some scientists suppose that they don't exist at all and that all reports about them stem from hallucinations produced by magnetic fields.

However this theoretical explanation is sharply criticized by other scholars.

No proofs

This hypothesis, which, according to Keul, was already formulated by Englishman Mark Stenhoff in 1999, sounds elegant and illuminating but has never been verified experimentally, Keul and neuroscientist Paul Sauseng criticize.
Sauseng also points out that delusional perceptions during artificial brain stimulations last at most one second whereas ball lightnings exist on average for 5 seconds.
Moreover, hallucinations through artificial stimulations would only occur if there were strong magnetic field differences of several centimeters in the brain, which is incredibly unlikely to happen during close lightning impacts.

"Since the brain surface of every human has different folds, two persons undergoing simultaneously ball lightning hallucinations should see completely different things, which isn't by any means what is reported." says neuroscientist Sauseng.

Many unverified theories

Keul emphasizes that ball lightnings can also cause damages or get photographed, what both physicists leave wholly unconsidered in their neurological explanation. And in the clinical literature about lightning and electricity accidents one can find absolutely nothing about the alleged hallucinations.
"If pilots during thunderstorms were really at risk of undergoing hallucinations, there would not only be flight prohibitions during the presence of vulcanic ashes. And routine investigations of brains under the strong fields of magnetic resonant tomography (MRT) would be an extremely wild undertaking, indeed."
According to ball-lightning researcher Keul, enough theories about the phenomenon have been developed but there are too few empirical tests and inter-disciplinary cooperations.

Very recently Chinese scientists could prove the presence of ball lightning during a thunderstorm, which strongly indicates that most observers have reported a real phenomenon.

The delusion hypothesis appears now to lie on very shaky grounds.

It is noteworthy that this "theory" strongly resembles the entirely unproven hypothesis according to which sightings of unidentified triangular flying objects stem from hallucinations induced by plasma.

(Not long ago, the American B2-bomber would have been simply written off as the delusion of an agitated brain).

The ethics of skepticism

In 1877, Skeptical British philosopher William K. Clifford wrote an essay entitled "the ethics of belief" in which he argues that "It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence."

While I take such crass generalizations with a grain of salt, I agree, of course, that the acceptance of unsupported opinions can trigger all sort of unpleasant consequences.

But the flip side of the coin is that the pseudo-skeptical rejection of still unexplained phenomena for which we have normal evidence can be equally devastating for our collective knowledge and our global progress.

Besides ball lightnings one can also mention continental drift as well as meteorites whose existence have been denied during a long period of time, despite trustworthy testimonies or clues, because one had no explanation for them.

Another moral problem is that the conviction of debunkers that something doesn't exist does not rarely lead them to accuse decent persons of having set up extraordinary hoaxes (see here for a good example).

Therefore it is fair enough to demand Skeptics to provide us with compelling grounds as to why a given phenomenon should be seen as extremely improbable a-priori. As I argued, the burden of proof isn't unidirectional.

“Stenen van Ica bewijzen dat mens op dinosaurussen reed”

Een groep creationisten uit de Amerikaanse staat Idaho is bezig geld in te zamelen voor een nieuw museum, dat bezoekers uitdaagt ‘kritisch na te denken over de geschiedenis van de aarde’. In de aankomsthal zal een replica van de Ark van Noach te zien zijn, aldus geoloog Doug Bennett.

Bezoekers kunnen voor zichzelf bepalen welke theorie het meest aannemelijk is en het beste aansluit op het bewijs dat we in de wereld om ons heen zien. “Geloof niet alles wat je te horen krijgt, denk voor jezelf. Denk kritisch na en vraag jezelf af of het logisch klinkt,” zegt Bennett in een promotiefilmpje.

“Ons doel is het presenteren van echte wetenschap die verborgen is gehouden voor het publiek,” zei paleontoloog Stan Lutz. “We hebben voorwerpen die zelfs de meest fervente aanhangers van de evolutietheorie niet kunnen verklaren.” Lutz doelt met name op de zogeheten stenen van Ica, die volgens hem bewijzen dat mensen en dinosauriërs hebben samengeleefd.

Lutz claimt dat de stenen minder dan 6000 jaar oud zijn, wat erop zou wijzen dat mensen en dinosauriërs naast elkaar leefden. “Als ze niet wisten hoe dinosaurussen eruitzagen, hoe konden ze deze dieren dan zo gedetailleerd in de stenen graveren?” vraagt hij zich af.

Dr. Javier Cabrera beweerde in 1974 dat de stenen afkomstig waren van een verloren beschaving. Volgens hem waren ze miljoenen jaren oud. Op de stenen stonden onder andere afbeeldingen van telescopen, hartoperaties en dinosaurussen.

De Franse auteur Robert Charroux schreef dat de stenen ooit onderdeel waren geweest van de bibliotheek van Atlantis. Eind jaren negentig maakte een televisieploeg beelden van een indiaan die een Ica-steen maakte. Dezelfde indiaan zei dat hij een groot deel van de verzameling van Cabrera had gemaakt. Cabrera heeft altijd volgehouden dat zijn collectie echt was.

Lutz stelt dat het Northwest Science Museum beschikt over authentieke Ica-stenen. “Deze steen bevat bijvoorbeeld een afbeelding van een man die op een Triceratops rijdt,” zei hij. “We hebben stenen met tenminste 14 dinosaurussoorten die allemaal zeer nauwkeurig zijn weergegeven.”

A group of creationists in the Boise, Idaho area are seeking funds to build The Northwest Science Museum, which they claim will urge visitors to “think critically” about the Earth’s natural history, Boise State Public Radio (BSBP) reports.

Geologist Doug Bennett told BSPR that the “first thing” visitors will see when they walk up to the Science Museum is “a full scale replica of Noah’s Ark.” In a promotional video, he further explains that what will set this Science Museum apart is “that it will explain both the Biblical and naturalistic points of view side-by-side.”

“This way,” he continues, “visitors can see both views and determine for themselves which theory makes the most sense, and which theory matches the evidence we see in the world around us.”

“We want to bring that out and say, ‘Ok, people. Let’s make your choice here.’ Don’t just believe because you’re being told that. Think for yourself. Use critical thinking and think, does this make sense?” Bennett says. “Or is it better to believe what the Bible says — that God created all things.”

Stan Lutz, a field paleontologist, adds “that our goal here is present the true science that has been hidden from the public. We have artifacts that even confound the most ardent evolutionists,” most notably the so-called “Ica stones,” which as Lutz explains in another video, proves that humans and dinosaurs interacted.

Lutz claims the stones are less than 6,000 years old, which to his mind, proves that humans and dinosaurs coexisted. “After all,” he says, “if they didn’t know what dinosaurs looked like, how can they carve them in these stones so intricately?”

The Ica Stones are a favorite artifact of many conspiracy theorists, even though a 1977 Nova documentary revealed that they were the creation of the man who allegedly found them, Dr. Javier Cabrera, who also confessed to having sculpted them.

This finding has not deterred creationist, however, who insist that just because “there are some fake Ica Stones out there…and frauds have been made, doesn’t mean the real ones have been discredited.”

In both videos, Lutz claims the Northwest Science Museum contains “genuine” Ica Stones. “This stone right here, you can see there’s a man on it riding on a triceratops dinosaur,” he says in one of the videos. We have rocks showing at least 14 species of dinosaur that are all accurately drawn.”

Op onderstaande foto is een mysterieus organisme te zien dat in de ruimte gevonden is. Het organisme laat volgens wetenschappers zien dat al het leven op aarde, inclusief de mens, zijn oorsprong in de ruimte heeft. Dat meldt de Britse Daily Express.

Het is ontdekt in stof dat hoog in de stratosfeer van de aarde is verzameld. Onderzoekers stellen dat het een ‘biologische entiteit’ is die uit koolstof en zuurstof bestaat. Het is volgens de ontdekkers niet mogelijk dat het organisme van de aarde afkomstig is.

Professor Milton Wainwright en zijn team van de Universiteit van Sheffield en de Universiteit van Buckingham hebben ballonnen opgelaten, die op 27 kilometer hoogte deeltjes uit de ruimte hebben verzameld.

Wainwright claimt dat de ontdekking niet alleen bewijst dat leven in de ruimte bestaat, maar ook dat buitenaardse organismen continu op de aarde terechtkomen. “De foto toont een structuur die het drakendeeltje is genoemd. Uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek blijkt dat het bestaat uit koolstof en zuurstof en geen onderdeel uitmaakt van kosmisch of vulkanisch stof.”

“Dit is duidelijk een biologische entiteit, hoewel we niet precies weten of het onderdeel is van een enkel organisme of uit kleinere, individuele microben bestaat,” ging hij verder. “Het is een ongewoon organisme en lijkt in niets op het leven dat op aarde wordt aangetroffen.”

Enkele weken geleden zeiden astronauten dat ze levensvormen hadden ontdekt op de buitenwand van het internationale ruimtestation ISS, dat in een baan om de aarde draait. Het was voor het eerst dat complexe organismen in de ruimte zijn gevonden. Experimenten hebben eerder al aangetoond dat bacteriën buiten onze planeet kunnen overleven.

“Als onze bevindingen kloppen, zullen ze voor altijd onze kijk op het leven en de geschiedenis van de aarde veranderen en moeten we onze schoolboeken herschrijven,” zei professor Wainwright. “Het is een geweldige ontdekking en het bewijs dat deze organismen uit de ruimte komen is overweldigend.”

Eerder dit jaar werd de Mercatorprojectie verkozen tot tweede beste Belgische uitvinding door luisteraars van het Radio 1-programma ‘De bende van Einstein’. Dankzij de uitvinding van Mercator konden zeevaarders eeuwenlang hun weg over zee vinden met behulp van kaarten die volgens zijn projectie opgesteld werden.

Ook vandaag de dag doet Mercators projectie nog dienst: onze GPS in de auto is gebaseerd op dit principe. Zelfs op Amerikaanse kaarten staat dat de projectie van de hand van Mercator is. Onze wereldkaarten zijn nog steeds gebaseerd op de Mercatorprojectie en daardoor kloppen ze niet. Zelfs met satellietgegevens lukt het kennelijk niet om de wereld goed in kaart te brengen.

Op wereldkaarten die in klaslokalen hangen lijkt Noord-Amerika groter of even groot als Afrika. In werkelijkheid past Noord-Amerika in Afrika en is er nog ruimte over voor India en Argentinië. Groenland lijkt groter dan China, maar in werkelijkheid is China vier keer zo groot als Groenland. Alaska lijkt groter dan Mexico, maar dat is niet het geval.

Waarom onze wereldkaarten niet kloppen

Scandinavië lijkt groter dan India, maar in werkelijkheid is India drie keer groter. Brazilië lijkt kleiner dan Alaska, terwijl het land vijf keer groter is. Rusland lijkt een gigantische omvang te hebben, maar in realiteit is Afrika groter.

De Mercatorprojectie wordt nog veelvuldig gebruikt in schoolboeken en klaslokalen. Volgens de Britse krant The Guardian houdt Google deze projectie aan ‘vanwege technische problemen’. De internetreus stelt dat het geen doen is om de perfecte wereldkaart te maken.

Anderen zien er ideologische verklaringen voor, aangezien we de wereld op een andere manier zouden zien. De vorm van de landmassa klopt wel, maar de rijke noordelijke landen op de wereldbol worden nu veel groter uitgebeeld dan ze in werkelijkheid zijn.

James Gall presenteerde de projectie van Gall-Peters in 1855 en Arno Peters in 1967. De oppervlaktegetrouwheid van deze projectie, waarbij ontwikkelingslanden er groter op kwamen te staan dan met de alom bekende Mercatorprojectie het geval was, bracht de Unesco ertoe kaarten op basis van deze projectie uit te brengen.

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Who said Roswell has the market cornered on UFOs? Rio Rancho will host the first New Mexico UFO Conference on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Sabana Grande Recreation Center. It will feature five speakers, including one Rio Rancho man who has an extensive collection of evidence on UFO reports including everything from declassified military reports to audio clips of air traffic control communications.

David Marler said he has researched UFOs for nearly 25 years. In his garage alone, he has 14 filing cabinets full of audio files, government files and newspaper clippings that date back to 1897.

“I don’t know what these things are, but based on almost 25 years of active investigation, there is enough smoke to indicate that there’s some fire,” Marler said.

In digging through all the headlines and images, Marler said many reports over the last 20 to 30 years describe triangular UFOs not the stereotypical “flying saucer.” At the conference Saturday, he said he plans to present his evidence and leave it up to the audience to decide what it all means.

“Whether you relegate UFOs to fact, fiction or folklore, I always come down to the simple premise, it’s part of our history,” Marler said.

He said, despite many nights camping outside, searching for UFOs, he has never spotted one himself.

The Ministry of Defence will destroy all future UFO reports it receives so it does not have to make them public, a previously secret memo has revealed.

Britain's official UFO investigation unit and hotline were closed down at the start of December.

Since then, reports of strange sights in the skies sent to the MoD have been kept for 30 days before being thrown out, the newly released policy document showed.

This stance was adopted so defence officials would not have to publish the information in response to freedom of information (FoI) requests or pass it to the National Archives.

The memo, dated November 11, 2009, sets out the MoD's reasons for shutting its UFO unit and ceasing to invite the public to send in details of sightings.

It noted the number of reports the department received soared last year, taking up extra resources and diverting staff from "more valuable" defence-related activities.

The MoD recorded 634 UFO sightings in 2009, the second highest annual total after 1978, when there were 750, according to UFO expert Dr David Clarke.

This compares with an average of about 150 reports a year during the past decade.

The memo said: "The dedicated UFO hotline answer phone service and e-mail address serve no defence purpose, and merely encourage the generation of correspondence of no defence value."

The memo revealed that MoD chiefs made a point of not discussing their plans to close the UFO unit with other countries because of fears this could be perceived as part of a global cover-up.

Dr Clarke, a lecturer in journalism at Sheffield Hallam University, obtained the memo through an FoI request.

The expert said the MoD's new policy on destroying UFO reports would make it much more difficult to uncover the truth about incidents in the future.

"Even if something quite serious happened, perhaps where there was a near-miss with an airline, the MoD will say, 'We may have had a report on it, but we've destroyed it,'" he said.

La base de lancement Cap Canaveral / Centre Spatial Kennedy

Cap Canaveral est la principale base américaine. Créée en 1950 pour tester des lanceurs, elle s'est largement étendue avec plusieurs aires de lancement nécessaires au développement de l'astronautique. Les vols s'effectuent sous la responsabilité de la Nasa, agence spatiale créée en 1958.

Une autre base militaire construite en 1941, rebaptisée Vandenberg en 1958, est utilisée pour les lancements de satellites et de certaines sondes.

La base de lancement Baïkonour

Le cosmodrome soviétique porte le nom d'une ville située à 370 km de la base. Créé en 1955, tenu secret pendant longtemps, il se situe en réalité dans le désert de Kazakhstan. Bien que ressemblant à une zone industrielle, le cosmodrome Baïkonour assure encore aujourd'hui, le plus grand nombre de lancements au monde.

D'autres bases ont été créées, le cosmodrome de Plessetsk, le cosmodrome Dombarovski, le cosmodrome Svobodny.

Premiers lanceurs

1950 - Première lanceur américain

En 1954, le gouvernement soviétique commande à Sergueï Pavlovitch Korolev un missile capable d'atteindre les Etats-Unis, depuis le sol russe pour répliquer à une éventuelle attaque des Etats-Unis.

Le 29 juillet 1955, le porte parole du Président Eisenhower annonce que les Etats-Unis ont l'intention de lancer un satellite artificiel autour de la Terre. Cette annonce est confirmé au mois d'août par un scientifique, au cours du 6ème congrès astronautique à Copenhague.

Le 02 août 1955, le Président de la déléguation soviétique à Copenhague annonce le lancement d'un satellite artificiel au cours des deux prochaines années.

R-7

A la tête d'une section chargée de la construction des fusées, Sergueï Pavlovitch Korolev met au point un puissant lanceur, la fusée R-7. Avec quatre moteurs d'appoint, autour d'un corps central, alimentés par une turbopompe, la fusée R-7, baptisée Semiorka, est un puissant lanceur d'une poussée de 500 tonnes. Avant la mise à feu, il faut procéder à une longue préparation. Couchée sur une plate forme et tractée par une locomotive, Semiorka est redressée sur son pas de tir où commence le remplissage des réservoirs d'oxygène liquide et de kérosène.

Après trois échecs de lancement, le quatrième tir de la R-7 est un succès. La fusée atteint sa cible située à 6 500 km.

Premier vol dans l'espace

En 1939, la performance des scientifiques allemands reste sans égal.

Dans l'armée allemande, les travaux militaires sont consacrés à des missiles puissants, des bombes téléguidées, des fusées énormes.

Dans la base de recherche de Peenemünde, une fusée d'une grande technologie est développée, sous la direction de Wernher von Braun. La fusée A4, de 14 mètres, se propulse à plus de 5 000 km/h sur une cible d' une distance de 320 km et atteint 90 km d'altitude. Elle devient ensuite la fusée V2 et est opérationnelle. L'avance des allemands dans le domaine technique aéronautique ouvre la voie au lanceur à combustible liquide.

Pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, la plus grande usine souterraine au monde "Mittelwerk" est allemande. C'est ici que la fusée V2 est fabriquée en série, dans d'immenses laboratoires et ateliers. Dès 1944, Londres subit les premiers bombardements...

En 1945, l'armée américaine récupère des fusées V2, des documents scientifiques consacrés à la fusée et 104 ingénieurs allemands issus de la base de recherche de Peenemünde. Ils font signer un contrat à leurs prisonniers scientifiques qui devront travailler pour eux, aux Etats-Unis. Parmi eux, Wernher von Braun.

De son côté l'armée soviétique trouve dans les ateliers de fabrication de Mittelwerk des fusées V2, des documents, des schémas de construction importants qui seront étudiés par leur spécialiste en fusée, Sergueï Pavlovitch Korolev. Cinq mille scientifiques allemands sont déportés en Union Soviétique. Parmi eux, Helmut Gröttrup, brillant collaborateur de Von Braun, qui lancera la première fusée soviétique. Sept ans plus tard, tous seront rapatriés en Allemagne.

(N.Morgan) There’s been another sighting in Erie PA of what appears to be a very sophisticated UFO. It floats casually behind a reporter in one frame and then lazily floats around buildings in another frame. When I first watched it, I had wondered if perhaps it was a drone, but on further inspection, I’m not so sure. It moves with an unnatural grace, unlike a drone. It hovers, floats, and then takes off at a very fast pace. What I have noticed with these sighting is that it seems they happen in the early morning or at night. The air is denser then and I have pondered whether it the density of the air helps the UFOs to travel more efficiently.

On September 23, 2014, a newspaper story in the UK revealed that the British Ministry of Defence would be releasing 18 more UFO documents next year. This action was precipitated by the filing of a Freedom of Information request by British researcher Andy Russell, one month earlier, in which he asked:

“Whether documents covering the period 1971-76 and 1996-2000 titled ‘UFO policy’ and three other documents covering the periods June-Dec 2000, Dec 2000-Mar 2004 and March 2004 exist, and if so are they still ‘classified’.”

A search turned up the hitherto unacknowledged files, thereby contradicting the MoD’s earlier claim that all of its UFO files had been released to the public.

In June 2013, after it had been announced that the final “tranche” or batch of UFO files had just been declassified, I wrote an article saying that the MoD was almost certainly withholding additional, very sensitive, UFO-related documents. My piece featured comments by former MoD UFO Desk administrator Nick Pope, who agreed with my contention. He wrote:

Careful scrutiny of the released material shows plenty of documents have been redacted or withheld in entirety. And that's not including several of the more interesting files, documents, films and photographs that the MoD claims have been ‘inadvertently destroyed’ or ‘lost’.

In government, access to classified information is a product of your security clearance and your 'need to know'. Thus, in a sense, you can never say for sure whether you're privy to all the information on any particular topic, because even if you're the ‘Subject Matter Expert’, there may not just be specific things to which you're denied access, but areas the existence of which you're not even aware. Think of this in terms of ‘unknown unknowns’. So while I had a Top Secret SCI security clearance for much of my MoD career and certainly believe I saw all the UFO files, I can't be certain: ‘I don't know what I don't know’ is another way that those of us who have dealt with highly-classified material sometimes characterize this situation.

Regarding British UFO debunker Dr. David Clarke—who has slavishly repeated every MoD claim about the supposed lack of credible information on UFOs in its hands, and endorsed those claims as the final word on the subject—Pope said this:

Having done as a government job what he did as a hobby, I can confirm that larke has never worked for the MoD or held a security clearance. MoD redacts the files before sending them to the National Archives, so he's only ever seen the same unclassified material as any other member of the public.

One MoD document referred to him as a ‘UFO spotter’—a disparaging term used to describe somebody with a nerdish and slightly obsessive attitude to the subject...Some people would probably use the term ‘useful idiot’ to describe his parroting the MoD ‘no defense significance’ sound bite, which was designed solely to keep Parliament, the media and the public off our backs.

Pope’s last comment about Clarke received a lot of attention. Regarding the disparaging epithet, one reference website says, “In political jargon, ‘useful idiot’ is a term for people perceived as propagandists for a cause whose goals they are not fully aware of, and who are used cynically by the leaders of the cause.”¹
However, the far more interesting and significant comment by Pope was his revelation about the MoD’s underlying motivation for its claim that UFOs posed no threat to the UK.

Regarding the newly-acknowledged documents, Pope recently said, “This is a huge embarrassment for the MoD and will have UFO enthusiasts up in arms...The 18 files include ones from RAF radar specialists and from the ultra-secretive Defence Intelligence Staff, so there may be some fascinating revelations still to come."²

Having investigated the December 1980 UFO incidents at RAF Bentwaters at great length, I can confidently assert that two members of the MoD’s Air Staff Secretariat DS8 were present for some of the secret debriefings of U.S. Air Force personnel, relating to the sightings there.
Even though those individuals did not conduct the interrogations, and were merely observers, where are the MoD’s records summarizing what occurred during those witness interviews? Certainly there was nothing about them in the files released thus far.

My own Bentwaters research has focused on the events at the base’s Weapons Storage Area (WSA), during the early hours of December 28, 1980, when a UFO reportedly directed one or more laser-like beams into the bunker complex. At the time, the WSA was America’s largest tactical nuclear weapons depot in Europe, according to my former/retired U.S. Air Force sources.

Then-Lt. Col. Charles Halt, the Deputy Base Commander at the time, has described seeing the UFO and the mysterious beams in the distance—as he was investigating unexplained lights in nearby Rendlesham Forest—while at the same time hearing radio chatter from Air Force Security Police posted at the WSA, who were excitedly reporting the unknown object in the sky and one or more beams apparently falling among the weapons bunkers.

Surely the British Ministry of Defence would be interested in such an event. If so, where are its documents discussing it? Col. Halt first publicly admitted his knowledge of the incident in an Unsolved Mysteries television show that aired in 1991. In other words, the MoD had to have known about the UFO activity at the very sensitive WSA at least as early as that date—if not earlier. Wouldn’t one or more of MoD’s intelligence groups have mentioned Halt’s dramatic public admission in writing? If so, why didn’t those files end up being declassified?

I also have reliable sources who have discussed relatively recent UFO incursions at the Royal Navy’s Faslane base, in Scotland, where the UK’s Trident nuclear missile-carrying submarines are based.
If my civilian sources, who live nearby, know about these events, presumably the MoD does as well. At least, hopefully it does. Where are the documents relating to the sightings at the base? They were not among those released thus far, even though the reported incidents occurred in 2011.

In summary, the British Ministry of Defence has apparently not been entirely candid with the citizens of the UK or, at least, was very sloppy in its earlier searches for UFO-related files. The newly-discovered documents strongly suggest that other still-unacknowledged batches of files exist. Hopefully this development will result in a renewed effort on the part of British researchers to press for a truly comprehensive declassification of the entire cache of MoD files.

I have always had a grudging admiration for Kevin's ability to write fiction. Anybody who can write many dozens of novels deserves respect. I guess I can accept a smart computer that somehow says the opposite of the truth about the CT Memo. At least we both agree it is not signed and there is no /s/. But why not note that the absence of signature is a sign of genuineness? We didn't know until well after the memo was discovered that Cutler was out of the country at that time. Why didn't the supposed (mythical) hoaxer merely add one or the other?? He is accused of adding Truman's signature. Why accuse me of saying the latter was an exact match to the one on the Bush letter? It was Kevin not me that said "exact" match. I have accepted the official findings of forensic document examiner Black as stated to Dr. Robert M. Wood that it was appended because of the feathering. Ike might well have preferred documents with signatures. Even Karl Pflock agreed that the CIA could have copied the signature.

Yes, let us talk about provenance.
What is the basis for the claim that all leaked documents have a provenance? In this case the Provider of the EBD was guilty of a crime. A hoaxer wasn’t. As Kevin knows full well photographing and distributing a TOP SECRET Restricted document to somebody without an appropriate security clearance and need-to-know is a violation of the law. Hoaxing generally is not. Why not just say "gotcha?!"
Suppose the CTM was taken by one of the declassifers (all of whom had high level clearance) and put in a jacket pocket and then later placed in Box 189? Two step process. Nobody would tell me their names.

Yes, let's not argue about the distance to the crash site. We have a highly classified preliminary briefing about an extraordinarily important event which happened 5 years earlier. The approximate distance really doesn't matter. Which route was taken?

How did the (mythical) hoaxer know that, contrary to the official claims made, that TOP SECRET RESTRICTED was in use?? Psychic I guess. How did he know that Donald Menzel would pass muster as having a very high security clearance and a very long connection with the NSA … psychic I guess.

I never talk about Willingham. What is meant by "we believed"? As Tonto said to the Lone Ranger: what do you mean "we", white man? Why is it the fatal flaw? I know that I do not have access to classified files at Sandia or elsewhere and so far as I know, Kevin doesn't either. That he didn't find anything about an "El Indio- Guerrero" crash in the unclassified world means nothing. Any information about a crashed saucer recovered on December 6, 1950, and taken to Sandia would have been highly classified just as was any analysis of the Roswell, Plains of San Agustin, or Aztec crashes. December 6, 1950, was the date of a major security alert involving motion of an object(s) in the sky. Roswell and Kenneth Arnold were highly publicized events. The Plains and Aztec were not. I strongly recommend the outstanding and comprehensive research about Aztec done by Scott and Suzanne Ramsey as reported in "The Aztec Incident"... Bruce Maccabee and Grant Cameron have written about the Dec.6, 1950 national security alert.

I don't think Kevin has provided some sort of statement that this preliminary briefing would provide a listing and details of all saucer crashes. The first one provides the basic data saying Man is not alone... an incredibly important statement. The Briefing of Ike at the Pentagon on November 18, 1952, only lasted under 50 minutes. As stated "It should be regarded as introductory to a full operations briefing intended to follow." Introductory surely doesn't mean comprehensive.

I certainly am not impressed by a kind of guilt by association with Richard Doty and the Aquarius documents. Let us look at the EBD, CT, and TF. No, I don't want to get into the false testimony of Frank Kaufmann and others. At least he admitted he had lied about taking Blanchard and Marcel to the Debris field. I still would like to know from those who say the 3 documents are phony and why they make that claim. How did anybody know the details that unexpectedly turned out to be true???

Really? This is the best you can do? I produce a long analysis of the MJ-12 mythology, complete with documentation and the best you can do is point out a mistake that is the result of a misplaced phrase and a computer glitch.* Of course I knew that Cutler had not signed the memo. You said so in your book. This is trivia.
Instead, let’s discuss the lack of provenance. In every other leak of classified material into the public arena, there is a provenance. The reporter, researcher,
recipient of the material knows the source who is available to them for questions and authentication. With MJ-12 none of those factors are in evidence and in the world of leaked and questioned documents, this is a huge red flag.
You are unable to provide the name of the source or a repository of the information that can be used to verify the authenticity. Without that, you have a work of fiction.
In fact, that could well be the genesis of MJ-12. Bill Moore, Bob Pratt, and probably Richard Doty collaborated on a novel that had the working title MAJIK – 12, but Moore changed the name to The Aquarius Project. It is the blueprint for MJ-12 and was written two YEARS before the film allegedly arrived at Jaime Shandera’s house. When MJ-12 was revealed to the world, Bob Pratt thought it time to “dust off” the novel and see if they could sell it. Isn’t that an interesting coincidence?
And you must remember that Bill Moore talked to you about creating a “Roswell” document in the hopes it would suggest to some witnesses it was now legal for them to talk about the classified research. Yes, you have denied this in the past, but Moore mentioned it to others so it is not from a single source, it is the genesis of MJ-12.
Let’s talk about Project Aquarius, which you ignore.
This is, in fact, the original program that evolved into MJ-12. The first mention of MJ-12 is in a document that also mentions Project Aquarius, which it turns out, is a hoax. Isn’t it interesting that this initial appearance of MJ-12 is a hoax? And I haven’t even mentioned the MJ-5 fiasco.
And don’t forget that you have said repeatedly that the Cutler/Twining memo was planted in the National Archives. We just disagree on who placed it there. You fail to mention that the carbon copy was folded as it would have been if mailed (and which makes it easier to conceal in the inside pocket of a suit jacket), but there is no reason to fold it because it would have been filed flat. To me it was planted to provide a provenance for an MJ-12 document as a way to blunt that argument. It failed in that respect.
I don’t really care to argue about the trivia of the distances to the debris field but will say this. It would seem that in a document that includes a section of maps (unavailable to us) it would have the distances calculated precisely, especially from a military organization that contains a couple of dozen trained navigators. Their jobs were critical in combat, so they would have been able to provide precise distances and locations (grid coordinates) which should have been reflected in the body of the EBD but are not.

But the fatal flaw is the Robert Willingham nonsense. Here is something that reflects the state of UFO research in the mid-1980s. Many of us believed in the 1980s that Willingham’s tale of seeing a crashed flying saucer was true when his affidavit appeared. We believed him because he was a high-ranking Air Force officer telling a tale that seemed to be plausible. We believed that Todd Zechel had verified Willingham’s credentials, and now, in the EBD, there was further evidence that his story was true.
But the first version of Willingham’s tale took place in 1948 and involved three objects, one of which crashed. This version was published in 1968 in Skylook and told us Willingham was a CAP officer as opposed to an Air Force officer. To make it worse, he claims to have been flying a fighter that wasn’t operational in 1948.
In the version that appears in the MJ-12 document, the crash took place on December 6, 1950. This can be traced to Zechel and Moore and suggests the UFO was “incinerated” upon impact. Willingham tacitly agreed with that date, but later changed it so that he could tell his ridiculous story about flying fighters in Korea in December 1950.
In the last version, Willingham said that the events took place in 1954 or 1955. If true, then the tale couldn’t appear in a document created in 1952. And further research proved that Willingham had not been an Air Force officer nor was he a fighter pilot. His tale was invention and shouldn’t appear in a document created at the highest levels for the president. They would have known it wasn’t true if it had been told prior to the creation of the EBD, unless, of course, the EBD was created in the 1980s by those who weren’t on the inside and believed the tale at the time.
There is absolutely no evidence of a crash in the El Indio - Guerrero area of Mexico. And before we have to hear that “absence of evidence isn’t evidence of absence” I should point out that I have searched everywhere for evidence of this event. Friends and colleagues have searched for anything related to this published in the right time frame or witnessed in the right time frame at the locations mentioned and have failed. There is nothing to suggest a UFO crash on December 6, 1950. At this point, given the situation, those advocating the authenticity of MJ-12 must present something other than the MJ-12 document as evidence that this crash happened and if unable to do so, should then reevaluate their opinion on MJ-12. Or, to put a point on it, absence of evidence is evidence of absence in this case.

In fact, let’s take it a step farther, if you are advocating a crash on the Plains of San Agustin in July 1947, then you must explain why that is not mentioned in the MJ-12 document.
These two points seem to be mutually exclusive. If MJ-12 is real, then this crash must not have happened. If there was such a crash, then MJ-12 must be in error. There would be no reason to withhold this information from a document prepared for the president. Both can’t be authentic and I suspect both are fraudulent.
Or, if you believe there was a crash in Aztec, NM in March 1948, then why wasn’t it mentioned in the MJ-12 document? Doesn’t its absence argue against the authenticity of the Aztec crash? Conversely, if Aztec is a real event, then doesn’t that argue against the authenticity of MJ-12?

What we have in the MJ-12 document is the situation as it existed in the mid-1980s. At that time, those who faked the document didn’t believe in Aztec or the Plains crash but did in the Willingham tale. They attempted to create a document that seemed to have been written in 1952, but these elements have helped us date it. Willingham’s UFO crash tale is the real fatal flaw in MJ-12.
But rather than talk about these points critical to MJ-12, we delve into minutia of it with little regard to the overall picture. We engage in “gotcha” argument rather than something of substance that actually helps us resolve this dilemma. So there is a minor error in my analysis? Does that negate the overall challenge to MJ-12? No, these arguments about it just obscure the truth.
I could drag in aspects of this in which you have made mistakes, including your belief that the signature on the Truman memo is an exact match until you learned that no two signatures are an exact match. Then you changed your tune, but overlooked the minor alteration to the stroke crossing the “T” in Truman. The reason was Truman’s signature habitually touched the text and it was necessary to carefully remove the evidence of where it bushed those letters.
And, I expect to hear about how Phil Klass paid you one thousand dollars because you provided samples of pica type on White House letters.
But if we wish to understand this MJ-12 mess, then it is necessary to understand the major issues arguing against authenticity rather than minor problems with the analysis. Let’s resolve the major issues before we begin with the minor and irrelevant ones.

*For those who have corresponded with me on a regular basis, you know that my computer regularly launches emails in the middle of sentences. It has to do with the way the touch pad is laid into the lap top. I’m not sure what causes it… but this same flaw also will highlight text and delete as I type. I usually catch it and can recover it, but sometimes I don’t see this happening. I catch it on proofreading because there are usually two sentences or two paragraphs jammed together that have no transition. In this case, it took out several paragraphs in which I was discussing, as you did, the sample from Cutler’s office that had been signed.
The flow seemed natural and I didn’t catch the change which says that Cutler had signed the memo. Of course he hadn’t and I knew that.

from there. I have no desire to prolong the agony.

I cannot speak for others, but I certainly accept the challenge. All of the information I provided came from viable sources, and tells the FULL story. I do not understand how any complete analysis of the MJ-12 documents could not include the circumstances behind how they were brought to the public. These facts cannot be swept under the rug.
I highly respect Stanton and his work, and I included Stanton's comments in my story, but with all due respect, although Menzel's background is interesting, it is completely circumstantial and proves no connection to extraterrestrials. Just because the facts related to Doty, Moore, Shandera, and Bennewitz are complicated and difficult to understand and cast doubt on the veracity of the documents, they are still very pertinent. Using the uranium atoms analogy, the credibility of the scientists and the reputation of the labs where scientific tests are
conducted are certainly weighed heavily when it comes to the veracity and accuracy of scientific claims.
It is too late to add such a debate to the roster of the 2015 International UFO Congress. We schedule that out many months in advance, and if you go to the event's website you will see the line-up has been set. The only TBAs are people we are in the final process of confirming and have not yet announced their names. We certainly can look to holding such a debate in 2016. However, I propose that we debate this matter on Open Minds UFO Radio in the near future.

I would hereby like to Publicly challenge Kevin and/or Robert Hastings, and/or Barry Greenwood, and/or Alejandro Rojas or all together to a debate about the legitimacy of the the Cutler Twining Memo, The Truman Forrestal memo, the Eisenhower Briefing Document. I have long acknowledged that there are a large number of phony documents out there. The question is whether those three are legitimate as I have demonstrated. I think an appropriate site would be during the IUFOC in February in Arizona.The debate I had 2 years ago there with John Alexander was very well attended.I have no idea why people think it is more important to talk about the machinations of Richard Doty, Bill Moore, Jaime Shandera, Paul Bennewitz etc than about all the facts that I noted which were not known to be true until after the documents were received.How did a hoaxer know those facts?As a nuclear guy I long ago leaned to focus on what is relevant. That 99.3% of uranium atoms in nature are not fissionable, tellls us nothing about the 0.3% that are. I would say let all sell their books What say you all?

With around third of Americans admitting to believing in aliens, and more exoplanets being discovered that could harbour life, it is no longer unusual to believe in the existence of ET.

Now an astronomer has claimed that a person's belief in extraterrestrial life varies according to whether they also believe in a God and even specifically which religion they identify with.

In the new book he reveals that atheists are the most likely group of people to believe in extra-terrestrials, at 55 per cent, followed by Muslims.

It summarises what religious leaders and theologians from over 24 major religions say about alien life, including Judaism, Roman Catholicism, the Church of England, Hinduism and Buddhism.

Astronomy professor David Weintraub, of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, said: ‘When I did a library search, I found only half a dozen books and they were all written about the question of extraterrestrial life and Christianity, and mostly about Roman Catholicism, so I decided to take a broader look.’

‘Very few among us have spent much time thinking hard about what actual knowledge about extraterrestrial life, whether viruses or single-celled creatures or bipeds piloting intergalactic spaceships, might mean for our personal beliefs [and] our relationships with the divine.’

His book, Religious and Extraterrestrial Life, includes the results of a poll that found 55 per cent of Atheists believe aliens exist, while 44 per cent of Muslims and 37 per cent of Jews think that life is out there in the universe.

Around 36 per cent of Hindus and 32 per cent of Christians believe in aliens as well as divine beings.

Of the Christians, the Eastern Orthodox faithful were the most likely to believe in aliens (41 per cent) while Baptists were the most sceptical at 29 per cent.

Professor Weintraub thinks that Asian religions would have the least difficulty in accepting the discovery of extraterrestrial life, because Hindu thinkers have speculated that humans may be reincarnated as aliens, and vice versa, while Buddhist cosmology includes thousands of inhabited worlds.

He found passages in the Qur’an that appear to support the idea that spiritual beings exist on other planets, but notes that these beings may not practice Islam as it is practiced on Earth.

However, Professor Weintraub found very little in Judaic scriptures or rabbinical writings hinting at the existence of aliens.

The few Talmudic and Kabbalistic commentaries on the subject do assert that space is infinite and contains a potentially infinite number of worlds and that nothing can deny the existence of extraterrestrial life.

He says that Jews don’t believe the discovery of extraterrestrial intelligence would have much effect on them, quoting a Jewish anthropologist and scholar who concluded that the relationship between Jews and God would not be affected in the slightest by ‘the existence of other life forms, newly discovered scientific realities or pan-human behavioural changes.’

Professor Weintraub said that Roman Catholics have given the possibility of extraterrestrial life the most thought among Christian religions.

Catholic leaders have been having an on-off debate about the possibility of life on other worlds for a thousand years, he said.

The crux of the debate is whether intelligent aliens would suffer from original sin, because they are not descended from Adam and Eve, and if they do, did Christ visit them and was he resurrected on other planets?

‘From a Roman Catholic perspective, if sentient extraterrestrials exist some but perhaps not all such species may suffer original sin and will require redemption,’ according to Professor Weintraub.

The debate may increasingly come to the fore, because astronomers are detecting exoplanets - some of which could harbour life - at a rate faster than ever before.

In 2000, astronomers had detected 50 planets orbiting other stars, while today that number has grown to more than 1,000.

While there are many conflicting views in the Protestant faith, he said that Lutheran theologian Paul Tillich’s view are probably largely representative – that the ‘saving power’ of God must be everywhere. However, God’s plan for human life may not be the same as his plan for aliens.

Professor Weintraub thinks that Evangelical and fundamental Christians may struggle the most to accept any discovery of alien life, because most of their leaders assert that extraterrestrial life does not exist.

However, Mormonism and Seventh-day Adventism are two Christian faiths that embrace aliens.

In Mormonism, God helps exalt lesser souls so they can achieve immortality and live as gods on other worlds.

Water vapour absorption in the clear atmosphere of a Neptune-sized exoplanet

Transmission spectroscopy has so far detected atomic and molecular absorption in Jupiter-sized exoplanets, but intense efforts to measure molecular absorption in the atmospheres of smaller (Neptune-sized) planets during transits have revealed only featureless spectra^{1, 2, 3, 4}. From this it was concluded that the majority of small, warm planets evolve to sustain atmospheres with high mean molecular weights (little hydrogen), opaque clouds or scattering hazes, reducing our ability to observe the composition of these atmospheres^{1, 2, 3, 4, 5}. Here we report observations of the transmission spectrum of the exoplanet HAT-P-11b (which has a radius about four times that of Earth) from the optical wavelength range to the infrared. We detected water vapour absorption at a wavelength of 1.4 micrometres. The amplitude of the water absorption (approximately 250 parts per million) indicates that the planetary atmosphere is predominantly clear down to an altitude corresponding to about 1 millibar, and sufficiently rich in hydrogen to have a large scale height (over which the atmospheric pressure varies by a factor of e). The spectrum is indicative of a planetary atmosphere in which the abundance of heavy elements is no greater than about 700 times the solar value. This is in good agreement with the core-accretion theory of planet formation, in which a gas giant planet acquires its atmosphere by accreting hydrogen-rich gas directly from the protoplanetary nebula onto a large rocky or icy core⁶.

The coloured regions indicate the probability density as a function of metallicity (relative to solar) and cloud-top pressure derived using our Bayesian atmospheric retrieval framework^{23, 24}. Mean molecular weight was derived for a solar C/O ratio at 10 mbar. Black contours mark the 68%, 95% and 99.7% Bayesian credible regions. The depth of the observed water feature in the WFC3 spectrum required the presence of a large atmospheric scale height that can only be self-consistently obtained for an atmospheric metallicity below 700 times solar at 3σ (99.7%) confidence. The atmosphere is probably predominately cloud-free at least down to the 1 mbar level. We indicate the matching models plotted in Fig. 2 with coloured markers.

The gaps resulted when HAT-P-11 was occulted by the Earth during Hubble’s ~96 min orbit. We decorrelated the ramp effect by fitting an average, two-parameter (scale and amplitude) exponential function over time.

We calculated the Pearson correlation coefficient over the posteriors of each parameter, and found the correlations to be small (<0.10 in magnitude), or in most cases negligible (<0.01 in magnitude). Blue represents regions of lesser posterior density and red represents regions of greater posterior density, with green and yellow in the middle.

Als iemand op internet schrijft over ‘geometrische vormen’ op de maan, gaat het meestal over UFO-jagers die vreemde dingen op het maanoppervlak hebben gezien. Dit keer ligt het anders. Wetenschappers melden dat kloven op de maan een enorme rechthoek vormen.

Het draait allemaal om de oceaan der stormen (Oceanus Procellarum), waarvan oorspronkelijk werd gedacht dat het een oceaan zou zijn. Inmiddels is duidelijk dat de ‘oceaan’ bestaat uit basalt. Altijd is aangenomen dat Oceanus Procellarum, de grootste ‘maanzee’, is gevormd door de inslag van een asteroïde. Nu zijn astronomen daar niet meer zo zeker van.

Famous Mexican UFO video debunked by TV host

In a video posted to YouTube by the National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas (seen above), the resident skeptic of the TV show Chasing UFOs, debunks a famous UFO video that was provided by the Mexican Air Force to Mexican UFO investigator Jaime Maussan.

The video posted today was from a lecture by scientist Ben McGee, a co-host of the show Chasing UFOs, and Ben Hansen, one of the hosts of the TV series Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files. They discussed what it was like doing paranormal investigations on TV. McGee says it was frustrating trying to do a real scientific investigations with very limited time and resources.

One of the investigations Chasing UFOs conducted on the show was of a famous UFO video from Campeche, Mexico. In 2004, the Mexican Air Force sought the help of UFO researcher and journalist Jaime Maussan, and provided him the UFO video. They said the footage came from one of their planes outfitted with a FLIR camera. This is a sophisticated camera that captures heat signatures.

On the footage, several points of light seem to be following, and even surrounding, the military aircraft. It is very compelling video, and has been the source of much debate. Much like that which will likely ensue in the comments below and on our Facebook page when we post this story.

McGee began his investigation of the Campeche video by looking at the recording mechanism. He says of the Mexican Air Force’s camera, it is “very hard to get better than this.”

He elaborated, “The best possible camera that I think humanity could have ever aimed at something unexplained. It gives me everything you could possibly ask for. Its current GPS coordinates, azimuth, meaning which direction from zero to 360 degrees was the camera pointed. Its inclination; how far off the horizon was it pointed. The date time to the second. It’s all there. For me, I was very encouraged. I thought maybe I could actually figure out what this is or this might stand up.”

The next thing McGee looked into was the appearance and the apparent motion of the objects. He noted that they were points of light, and they never broke formation. No matter how much the camera moved around and panned and zoomed in on the objects. They were always in the same sequence.

McGee also found that the leading skeptical hypothesis was that the lights were actually from oil rigs out in the Gulf of Mexico. However, the oil rigs were 100 miles away from the airplane. Ben thought that idea was a stretch, and they tested this theory on an episode of Chasing UFOs.

The crew rented a plane and took up cameras and a FLIR system. They flew a similar path the Mexican Air Force took, but couldn’t see much. They had to get very close to the oil rigs to pick them up with the FLIR. However, the oil rigs did not have flames while they were filming.

Ben’s co-host, Erin Ryder said, “We could barely see the water, let alone these oil rigs. I just don’t see how people can mistake these oil rigs for UFOs.”

Ben’s other co-host, James Fox, agreed with Erin and said that their test proved that the oil rigs were not what the Mexican Air Force caught on camera. However, Ben disagreed.

On the show Ben said, “Because the atmospheric conditions today were different than they were for the Mexican FLIR footage, and because the military’s camera may have had a different calibration than ours, I don’t think our experiment was conclusive either way.”

In his presentation, he also noted that they were using a less sophisticated FLIR system on the TV show.

Ben decided not to abandon the oil rig theory, but to look at it from a different perspective. He decided to examine the pattern of the lights and compare them to the oil rig towers. He especially noted that there were a couple of groups of three lights. He found that the towers also were often grouped in threes.

Ben also found an image of two burning vents from the group of oil rigs that looked like two of the lights in the UFO video. So, Ben says he decided to see what pattern the towers would make if somehow conditions were right for the Mexican Air Force FLIR to pick them up. He knew where the plane was, and where the towers were, so he had enough data to make an accurate estimation.

Ben drew site lines from where the plane would have been to the horizon, and his pattern matched exactly what the Mexican Air Force FLIR cameras caught. But Ben says that was not good enough. He also noticed that what would have appeared to have been one light to the FLIR camera was actually two lights, one in front of the other. This being the case, Ben thought he could predict that at some point in the film, that light would separate into two lights, as the angle the plane viewed those lights changed. Sure enough, he found that the light did appear as two lights in part of the Mexican Air Force video.

As for the apparent motion of the lights, Ben says that was due to the plane moving and the clouds in-between the plane and the oil rigs. The clouds appear to go in one direction and the lights in another, but both are stationary.

McGee says, “You got the fact that it matches the light arrangement, so you get the series of 11 lights, and then you get this predicted one light turning into two. I think it actually is the oil complex.”

McGee continued, “I can only conclude, either you had some sort of craft hovering directly over each tower, or it was just the towers.”

My name is Garel W. White, Retired USAF and now living in the Seattle Area. I don’t know if you will get this response, but over the years it has become more clear than confusing about the nature of the Wurtsmith UFO incident in October 1975. Reading about the incident in the early years suggested I was not telling the truth until I now read that 2 UFOs were in the area and split up while being chased by a KC 135 Tanker. One shot toward Saginaw and the other found its way over to our Capehart Gate Housing Area and Motor pool and Munitions Storage. This is where I became clear on the incident because even in your current story you key on the Capehart Housing Gate Flyover. Here is my story.
Garel W. White, Sgt, stationed at the Main Gate, Wurtsmith AFB approx. 1020 hrs.; almost ½ hour of initially being posted there for the Midnight Shift. I never really noticed the extra activity over the radio because I was busy controlling the small rush of vehicles entering the installation and was normal for that time. I got a call on the Hot Phone from the Command Post and answered it. The Command Post asked me if I saw anything over the Lake (Lake Huron) just like that! I looked and saw a bright white light that looked similar to the Planet Venus low in the sky. I reported that to the Command Post and they told me to keep an eye on it and they could give me no more information when I asked what was up? I thought nothing of that and continued to my duty with on-coming vehicle traffic entering the base. Approx. 10 minutes later the Hot Phone rang again. This time I glanced up and noticed it was not the Planet Venus low in the sky. It was larger and appeared to be coming toward landfall of the Michigan shoreline. I watched it for about a few more minutes as the traffic coming on base died down and I could pay more attention to it. I noticed another Security Police Vehicle approach with my Squadron Commander Major? I can’t remember his name but I can get it. The white light was approx. 5 miles away when the Major and I watched it approach. I noticed some red lights and a slight swooshing sound as it closed in and stopped almost centered over the Main Gate (Less than 100 feet to the right of the Main Gate) about 150 feet in the air. It was a piercing white light; so bright you could not see behind it, around it, over it, etc. I felt it was low enough I could pick up a rock and hit it. At this time no traffic entered the base. I stepped off the platform of the Entry Control area, walked about 100 feet from the Main Gate directly under the blinding white light. It stayed there for more than 5 minutes; whoosh, whoosh, whoosh in 3 second intervals was the only sound I heard. The Major walked over and we were both perplexed to what it was. We were both directly under it. This was for a little less than 5 minutes. I walked back to the gate and it began to move slowly approx. 2 to 3 mph down the roadway direct line toward the flight line, about 2 miles away from the Christmas Tree Alert B-52s and Alert KC-135 Tankers, illuminating the roadway as it went until approx. 3 blocks away the light went out, then lots of radio traffic. I don’t know where Michael Meyers was, but he did stop by and compared notes with me. The Major departed after the lights went out to the Command Post. I was told not to speak of the incident, and I didn’t until I was going to retire at Grissom AFB, INDIANA in 1990. I told a batch of new 1st year troops of the encounter with a UFO when I was in my first 4 years of service. They said I was pulling their leg until one of them went to his room and came back with a “TIME LIFE” Book on UFOs and listed under Malstrom AFB UFO was word for word of the UFO account except it only said Capehart Housing and not the Main Gate encounter. I’ve sort of kept my mouth shut until 2003 when I noticed the KC-135 was chasing 2 UFOs in a story starting from Loring AFB and wound up at Malstrom AFB. (I saw the 2nd one!). KENS NOTE: Some info on the long history of Wurtsmith Air Force base…..The Strategic Air Command‘s 4026th Strategic Wing was activated at Wurtsmith on 1 August 1958. The 4026th SW was a B-52′s dispersal wing, a part of SAC’s plan to disperse its big bombers over a larger number of bases, thus making it more difficult for the Soviet Union to knock out the entire fleet with a surprise first strike. The 920th Refueling Group’s KC-135 Stratotankers were transferred to the 4026th from Turner AFB, Georgia in July 1960. It was inactivated on 9 January 1961.
SAC’s 40th Air Division was reactivated in July 1959 and assigned to Eighth Air Force with headquartered at Wurtsmith AFB. The Division was the parent unit of four SAC wings and advisor to three Aerial Reserve Force units. The Division’s mission was to supervise and monitor the operation of the 379th and 410th Bombardment Wings, the 305th Aerial Refueling Wing, the 351st Strategic Missile Wing, the 128th Aerial Refueling Group, and the 931st Aerial Refueling Group. SAC also began to extended the runway to 12,000 feet in 1959 to better accommodate the B-52. Along with the runway extension, a “Christmas Tree” alert pad area was constructed on the north side of the 24 runway end to accommodate 9 alert aircraft, and a “Mole Hole”, where alert crews would live on shifts ready to man the alert aircraft and take off within a few minutes notice.

At 8:45 pm I decided to go for a walk around the block for half our to an hour, I left my place and enjoyed a peaceful evening stroll. I was walking through a dark alley that cut through two apt building ending up at a old school that is across the road from the high school which has several large football fields. While in the alley heading home I talked briefly too a group of guys who claimed to have seen a UFO in the sky and if I hurried over to the field I could still catch them. He pointed me in the direction that they seen the UFO and said they have to leave. I hurried over too the field and did not notice anything and thought for sure I had missed them, shortly after about a minute of observing the sky I observed some lights that seemed to come from nowhere, I saw five bright circular lights in the sky that were in a boomerang like V formation, the UFO was in the very bottom part of the cloud layer and the clouds around the UFO’s lights vanished all around for hundreds of feet. I felt a feeling of fear and astonishment when I first seen the craft, the lights were in the east direction moving south climbing in altitude, I observed the lights as they began to get smaller, the light started to pulsate and grow brighter when the UFO disappeared in a streak of light much like what a shooting star looked like only the streak of light traveled into space instead of the ground. I was still watching the sky and observed a light travel back from the direction in which it had shot away, the light was moving at super speeds because it traveled towards myself growing a bit brighter, the lights then slowed down and stayed stationary. The sighting lasted for about ten minutes and occured just after 9 pm. I could still make out the UFO when I left the school field. I walked home very excited about what I had just observed and the first thing I was going to say to my room mate was if he wanted too come and take a look at a UFO in the sky near the high school, so I came upstairs gave his door a quick knock and entered his room. I was instantly hit by a big gust of wind that made the curtains hit the roof and I almost blacked out, it felt like I had been drugged or was overcome by a deamonic dark presence, I remember seeing a dark shadow creature come over me freezing me with fear.

I thought to myself oh my god I just had my room mate abducted and I went to the living room where I noticed that 20 seconds had elapsed in 40 minutes, I looked around the house for my room mate and finally found him outside when I told him the things that had just happened, he didn’t think it was crazy at all. I was overcome by an energy and dreading feeling that I had too get out of the house, I thought for sure I was going to be abducted and I did not want to put anyone’s life in danger. I left the house and walked for about an hour too a picnic table at a small creek that was still in the city but it was late and I barely observed a vehicle. At this time I was starting to calm down and was beginning to accept what had recently happened to me, I was a little bit on edge because I jumped when something came out of the bushes, it turned out to be a dog that stopped to take a drink out of the creek and continued on his way. It was starting to get late, approximately 1 am, I grabbed my backpack and was about to head to the road when I heard something in the bushes again and thought it was the dog having another drink at the creek so I walked down to the waters edge to see if I could pet him and make a friend, I was mistaken because I observed two short human like creatures, around 4′ tall and a slender build, they had dark eyes that were larger then our own and no visible hair clothes to speak off. The creatures were dark In colour but not black, possibly a dark grey.

I watched the ET’s run away from me running towards a carwash looking back at me for a glance, the one jumped on top of a car with ease and ran over the top of it jumping down and continuing to follow the other as they ran into the dark where I could not make them out. I instantly thought” if they are running that way I am going this way” and I made my way to the brightly light highway that was nearby. I was honestly scared of these things and all I wanted to do at this time was too feel safe. I honestly don’t know what they were going to do to me or why they ran away. It has even crossed my mind that perhaps they were either coming to drink water from the creek or were stalking the stray dog that recently came from the path that the et’s were. I accept now that we are not alone and am amazed at the fact that we have so many documented account of the same lights in the sky and the same creatures known as the Grey Aliens.

I have seen flying saucers since august 18, 1980. This was my 8th UFO experience, but I have never seen orbs, only spaceships. These were orbs, I think, not what I usually experience. I first noticed the object before dinner, but I just blew it off. We had dinner on the beach, overlooking the water. My wife noticed it after dinner, when we went to leave. I immediately saw a large bright light again, much brighter than the first time, approximately 45 earlier. I knew immediately what it was, a UFO. We just purchased a camera a few days before, and we went to the waters edge, and started filming. My wife did. The object, there were 4-5 of them, were extremely bright, varying in size from a pin head to a quarter. I estimate about half a mile to a mile away from shoreline. They moved independently, and went from bright small in size, to immensely bright and huge, maybe the size of a quarter. They moved up and down, remained stationary, and one of them went over land when big, over I would assume sandy hook area, 10-15 miles north of where we were.

There were 6-7 people on the beach watching and filming as well. It was amazing to see. My feelings…very excited, very controlled. I wanted to attract them, and stood in the light than ran across the water and did jumping jacks to attract it. It did not respond. The objects got extremely big and bright maybe 3-4 times. These actions unfortunately were not captured on video of photos. I told my wife to take video, to make sure we had it on video. I spoke to my cousin on the cell phone throughout part of the experience, because he knows of all the things I have experienced, and I was describing the scene to him as it happened. I am very lucky to have experienced what I have throughout my life. We never lost sight of the objects. We left after about an hour or so. We saw amazing detail of 2 orbs around a tremendous bright round light, sometimes two bright circles of light. Unfortunately, I do not know how to submit this to you right now, but will have my wife do so in the next few days to a week. You will be amazed, or maybe not, since this is probably common but it is amazing, and I would like an explanation as to what this is. I believe it is extra terrestrial. My wife thinks it was secret military craft, but she also said she did not know what it was. She does not believe in UFO’S, since she has never seen one, but then, she could not explain what we saw. NOTE: The above image is a rendering. KEN’S NOTE: This area has been very active with sightings over the years. Ft Monmouth is nearby and has a two mile dock that protrudes out into the bay. Military ships can be seen there often. The bay leads to the Varrazano Bridge and eventually Manhattan. Check it-out on Google Earth.

On Sunday August 10, 2014, while at home in Oshawa, Ontario, I was outside on my driveway washing my car when suddenly I hear this humming sound and look to the north below HWY 2. About a quarter mile north of my position and some thousands of feet up I see three bright red ruby lights maintaining in a triangle formation. Being in a state of awe watching them moving across from the east to west, maybe 30 seconds passed. I then ran into the house for my camera; being once again outside in about 20 seconds. Started to film this spectacle and watch the direction of these three lights at 9:20 pm. I watched them pass over Whitby heading towards Ajax. The lights appeared to turn to the southwest heading to southern Ajax. I snapped one last picture at the greatest distance away. The last picture reveals a structure between the three lights. After a couple of days I noticed on the net of reports in Oshawa/Whitby /Ajax/Toronto /Burlington, Ontario. It would appear many folks had witnessed this marvel along this flight path this triangle of lights had taken probably due to the time not being too late. What is also interesting is that it started in Oshawa. No further reports came out ‘east of Oshawa.’ Very bizarre and shocking sighting to witness. I assume by the size that would be one to two hundred yards apart in spread of the lights. It is also interesting to note this occurred during a full moon cycle. Witch season kicks off in Salem

SALEM — October in the Witch City might seem like tourist territory, but this year there’s plenty of witchcraft-related events that even a jaded local could love.

Beginning tomorrow and building until the city celebrates Halloween on Friday, Oct. 31, Salem is slated to host a wide array of tours, speeches, balls, films, art shows and other events, much of it highlighting the region’s spooky past.

But nestled among the myriad events — all of which are outlined on a city website at www.hauntedhappenings.org — are numerous gems for the local who thinks he or she has heard it all before.

“There’s really something for everyone, and there’s something really great about being a tourist in your own backyard,” said Kate Fox, the city’s tourism czar. “Walking away and saying, ‘I lived next door all my life, and I’ve never done that. That was really fun.’”

Fox said the city is always trying to appeal to the local mindset, in part because a large percentage of tourists come to Salem in October with friends or family who live locally. Thus, locals find themselves at costume balls, on guided tours, at the Witch Museum — and loving it.

Loss of smell predicts death

The loss of a sense of smell can predict death within five years, according to research published today in the online journal PLOS ONE.

The study was from the National Social Life, Health and Ageing Project (NSHAP) and involved more than 3000 US participants aged between 57 and 85. It was conducted by Jayant Pinto and colleagues from the University of Chicago.

They asked the participants to identify five common odours – rose, leather, fish, orange and peppermint – as a way of assessing the accuracy and robustness of their sense of smell.

After five years, the participants were asked to take the test again. During the five year gap, 430 participants (12.5% of the total) had died, with 39% of those who failed the first smell test dying before the second test. Of those who had scored moderately well on the first test, 19% had died by the second test, while only 10% of those who had a healthy sense of smell on the original test had died during the period.

Surprisingly, loss of smell was a more accurate predictor of imminent death than a cancer diagnosis, heart disease or lung failure.

However the researchers argue smell loss does not cause death. The smell receptors, on the tip of the olfactory nerve, are continuously regenerated by stem cells, which makes them unique in the human body. One hypothesis is that the production of stem cells falls away as we age, affecting our sense of smell and indicating the body can no longer repair itself. – Cosmos Magazine

School Room Disappears

So this was a few weeks back in senior year of high school, and after school on a Friday I was looking for a quiet place to get some studying done and I was wandering around and went into the choir hall, which is just one long hallway with many rooms off either side, so I’m walking then I get to the end of the hall and there is a door I’ve never seen before. I open it and inside is a well-lit room with mirrors covering all walls. I walk in and close the door behind me. I sit down at the piano and mess around for a while, and once I’m done, I proceed to walk to a door on the side that leads outside. I get outside and walk to my car that is nearby in the main parking lot. Short walk. I drive off and think nothing of it. Fast forward a few weeks and I don’t feel like going home, so I’m going to play some piano then head home. I walk into the choir hall, and I walk all the way down, only to find a blank wall. This confused me, especially because there was a water fountain with the same sharpie mark on it as there had been outside of this mystery music room. Silent but astute, ufologist scour the skies of the metropolitan area looking for strange objects, lights and odd movements. With their trained eye, their able to distinguished common air traffic from something that perhaps hails from another world. Their purpose is to disclose the strange phenomena that plow the skies. However, this disclosure sometimes affects interests that are contrary to those of the ufologists.

Research and discovery can lead to enemies. “We're listening in on you. Be careful.” This is the first message received by Adriana Nicala, the Ituzaingó-based ufologist. At first he did not take it as a threat, but a prank. “[The call came in] at 10 in the morning. Since it says “we're listening in on you” I thought it had to do with a local radio show.”

Faced with this uncertainty, Nicala replied, “Who's this?” – but received no reply.

He then phoned the unknown number, but no one answered. “Seconds later I received another text message. “Are you an idiot? Don't call me.” I told him to go to hell in another message, phoned him again and he answered.”

From the other side of the line, he heard the voice of a man between 30 and 40 years old who nervously asked not to be called again, then asked [Nicala] what time he left home, to increase the threat. The last message Nicala ever received sealed the person's intentions: “Have a care with what you say. I'm not far away from you.”

According to the ufologist, threats, tapped phones and having his movements traced are commonplace. Nicala remembers that Luis Burgos, director of the Federacion Argentina de Ovnilogia, had a personal conversation he'd had with other UFO researchers played back to him over the phone. They had taped it right off his phone. “It's the intelligence services. Not from the United States, but from here. Our stance on the Monte Grande incident was very upsetting,” he says.

“On a previous occasion, they ruined 20 terabytes of information we had. They disrupted a hard drive with 20 terabytes from our radio show. They got in while we were on the air. The engineer, Gaby Mottura, realized someone ahd gotten in because things were running slow. The IP showed us that they'd first entered from New Mexico, then another IP from Virginia came in. The second lingered 40 minutes and listened to the entire show. When we mentioned on air that things were running slowly, it went away, but not before planting a virus that ruined everything. They do this to erase their tracks,” says Nicala, who broadcasts his experiences and those of his companions on the Testimonio Ovni radio show, broadcast on Inadaptados Radio (online) every Saturday at 20:00 hours.

“I'm not afraid. One's concerned about family, but I'm not afraid. It's not like I have firearms or anything, but I'm confident. I know there's an intelligence out there, without question. It's eminently powerful. If it allows something to happen to me, then it was meant to be. These people who threaten me should be more frightened, because I've seen these machines [UFOs] do things that ought to scare them,” concluded Nicasa.

If we ever find intelligent life beyond Earth, most atheists would be cool with that. Mormons and Seventh-Day Adventists might actually embrace it. But fundamentalist Christians? Not so much. Vanderbilt astronomer David Weintraub delves into those differences, plus other spiritual and cultural perspectives on the search for extraterrestrials, in a newly published book titled “Religions and Extraterrestrial Life: How Will We Deal With It?”

Weintraub takes a close look at the doctrines laid out by more than two dozen religions, cross-checking how they’d accommodate the discovery of alien life. He concludes that Asian religions would have the least difficulty (although a recent survey indicated that only 36 percent of Hindus believe extraterrestrials exist). Biologist Richard Dawkins, an outspoken atheist, said last week that it’s“completely implausible and arrogant” to think we’re alone in the universe. So are any of us ready to deal with it if E.T. shows up? “While some of us claim to be ready, a great many of us probably are not,” Weintraub said in a news release.

my father and i were on our way back from fishing heading towards a local caravan park which is situated on the n.east coast of whitley bay.to the right of the park is a farmers field with a ploughed field and some woodland.as we made toward the park my father said what’s going on in the woods as there we could see lots of white lights moving around. i replied to my father looks like theres people around checking things.as we drew nearer the lights appeared to raise up from behind the trees but bow white and blue flashing.my father kept asking what do you think it is?i said its an aeroplane just took off but my father saw an entirely different object to what i thought which i questioned.i said what do you see…he replied it,s like something out of flash gordon look at the lights all over it!we approached a bend in the road and the object moved outward toward sea while passing over the trees at roughly 5 to 10 mph….my father said it looks like its stopping or going to land on the main road.as we neared the main road which is beside a local land mark called st.marys lighthouse we turned and saw to our disbelief what i saw was an aeroplane hovering above the houses but what was strange it seemed to have landed.i was driving very slow lookin up at the craft and wanted to stop but my father said whatever you do dont stop theres something weird going on.i remember a car passing us but not making a sound or stopping or even where it had gone.everything seemed to be happening in slow motion.alll around there was silence and nobody around.i passed below the craft and saw what appeared to be a doorway with stairs leading from it..my father said keep going dont stop as i nearly mounted a kerb.the craft had blue and white lights on its wings which were flashing in sequence, they were very bright and seemed to be signaling out to sea.as we were driving away i said to my dad i wander what this woman is doing walking down the middle of the road.also do you realise theres no one around or any sign of life.the figure approaching appeared to be a woman but like a dark sillohette.we kept on driving not looking back or noticing where she had gone….we got home explaining what we had just seen to family members and our thoughts and asked if anything had been on news but there was nothing nothing on radio as far as i know. my father still says he saw something completely different to what i thought which is very strange on my behalf and to which neither of has any explanation.there is one thing to add and that is i saw the same thing again but at a different time with another person.this event took place at exactly the same location in broad day light…….these events actually happened to me.

Smithsonian archaeologist Damian Waters and his team have uncovered three elongated skulls in the region of La Paille, Antarctica. The discovery came as a total surprise to the world of archaeology as they are the first human remains uncovered from Antarctica, thought never to have been visited by humans until the modern age.

Elongated skulls have been found in Peru and in Egypt, proving past civilizations made contact long before history books want to acknowledge.

But this discovery is plain incredible. It shows there was contact thousand of years ago between civilizations in Africa, South America and Antarctica.

Elongated skulls are thought to have been a common deformation done upon children of the elite in many ancient cultures tells us a spokesman of the Smithsonian Institute of New York.

It was done by wrapping a cloth around the infant’s head when the skull is not yet in a solid state. This characteristic was used to amplify differences of traits between higher ranking classes of society and lower classes .

These elongated skulls are much, much larger than normal human skulls would be. Purposeful cranial deformation can change the shape of a skull, but it cannot increase the volume of the skull.

In addition, these skulls have quite a few other important physical characteristics that greatly set them apart from normal human skulls.

This knowledge is incredibly important, regardless of what these skulls end up being, human or otherwise, it is still important for unraveling the history of our past. These are obviously an incredibly mysterious group of people.

Now the thing on everyone’s mind is, are these skulls alien? Are they extra-terrestrial?

Voor ons zijn skylines en straatverlichting vanzelfsprekend, maar kan het zijn dat men in het Oude Egypte en Mesopotamië al elektriciteit gebruikte? Op een graf onder het heiligdom van Hathor in het tempelcomplex van Dendera zijn bijvoorbeeld figuren te zien rond een soort gigantische gloeilamp.

Auteur Erich von Däniken maakte in een laboratorium een replica van de lamp, die een zwak paars licht produceerde. Waar haalden de oude Egyptenaren elektriciteit vandaan? In Bagdad zijn in de jaren dertig kruiken van klei gevonden die als een soort batterij werden gebruikt. De kruiken dateren van 230 voor Christus.

De kruiken werden gevuld met wijn of azijnzuur en produceerden 1,1 volt. Archeologen vermoeden dat ze werden gebruikt om te galvaniseren, een methode die gebruikmaakt van elektriciteit om een voorwerp te bedekken met een laagje metaal.

De batterijen zijn niet de enige theoretische stroombron. Sommigen claimen dat één van de meest iconische bouwwerken in Egypte dienst deed als een elektriciteitscentrale. Auteur Christopher Dunn schrijft in zijn boeken The Giza Power Plant en Lost Technologies of Ancient Egypt dat de Grote Piramide van Gizeh werd gebruikt voor het opwekken van stroom.

Dat gebeurde volgens Dunn in de koningskamer, die net als de rest van de Grote Piramide voornamelijk uit roze graniet bestaat. Graniet bevat kleine kwartskristallen die onder druk spanning produceren, iets wat ook wel het piëzo-elektrisch effect wordt genoemd. Piëzo-elektriciteit wordt zeer veel toegepast; denk aan elektrische gasaanstekers, luidsprekers, inktjetprinters, maar ook in de autotechniek.

Volgens Dunn werd de granieten sarcofaag in de koningskamer gebruikt om trillingen van de aarde om te zetten in elektrische energie.

Pour la première fois, des chercheurs américains ont réussi à scruter l'atmosphère d'une exoplanète nettement plus petite que Jupiter. Une belle avancée.

Des astronomes ont détecté la présence de vapeur d'eau dans l'atmosphère d'une exoplanète lointaine de la taille de Neptune, soit quatre fois celle de la Terre : une bonne nouvelle pour les scientifiques qui pistent les molécules d'eau dans l'univers, à la recherche de signes de vie potentiels. Jusqu'à présent, les astronomes étaient seulement parvenus à mesurer la composition de l'atmosphère de grandes exoplanètes, de taille comparable à celle de la géante gazeuse Jupiter, soit la plus grosse planète de notre système solaire. "Ces nouvelles mesures marquent donc une avancée pour sonder les atmosphères de planètes plus petites", souligne la revue scientifique Nature qui publie l'étude réalisée par une équipe menée par Drake Deming et Jonathan Fraine de l'université du Maryland (États-Unis).

L'exoplanète en question est située à environ 124 années-lumière de la Terre dans la constellation du Cygne. Baptisée HAT-P-11b, elle est "la planète la plus petite et la plus froide à présenter des molécules d'eau détectables", souligne l'étude. Elle fait environ 4 fois le rayon de la Terre, mais 26 fois sa masse. En taille, elle est proche de Neptune, la planète du système solaire la plus éloignée de notre astre. Mais elle est bien plus proche de son étoile et donc beaucoup plus chaude (environ 600 degrés Celsius).

"Une pièce du puzzle"

Pour mener leur travail de détectives, les chercheurs ont scruté l'exoplanète à partir d'informations recueillies par les télescopes spatiaux Hubble et Spitzer de la NASA. Ils ont comparé ces données avec les observations du télescope spatial Kepler de la NASA lancé à la recherche d'exoplanètes. Lorsqu'une planète transite devant son étoile hôte, son atmosphère absorbe certains rayons de lumière. Grâce à la spectroscopie, il est possible de mesurer ce phénomène et de déterminer ainsi quels éléments chimiques se trouvent dans l'atmosphère. Mais plus la planète est petite, plus la recherche est délicate...

Jusqu'à présent, quatre exoplanètes de la taille de Neptune ou plus petites avaient été observées alors qu'elles passaient devant leur étoile, mais aucun signe d'absorption n'avait pu être mis en évidence sans doute à cause d'épais nuages, souligne l'astrophysicienne Eliza Kempton du Grinnell College dans l'Iowa (USA), scientifique extérieure à l'équipe de recherche, citée par Nature. HAT-P-11b, elle, n'a pas ce problème. Son atmosphère ne présente pas de nuages à haute altitude et les chercheurs ont pu établir qu'elle contenait de la vapeur d'eau. "Selon l'étude, sa composition pourrait être proche de celle des planètes géantes de notre système solaire : essentiellement de l'hydrogène avec des traces d'atomes plus lourds comme de l'oxygène sous forme de vapeur d'eau", relève Eliza Kempton.

Les astronomes traquent la présence d'eau sur les exoplanètes, car c'est une condition nécessaire - mais pas suffisante - pour permettre à la vie d'apparaître. Les chercheurs veulent aussi tester l'hypothèse selon laquelle d'autres planètes se sont formées de la même façon que celles de notre système solaire. "Trouver de la vapeur d'eau et de l'hydrogène sur HAT-P-11b "est une pièce clef du puzzle", cohérente avec les principales idées des astronomes sur la formation des planètes, estime Drake Deming, auteur principal de l'étude. Les exoplanètes sont des planètes en orbite autour d'une autre étoile que le Soleil. Elles se comptent par milliers. Leur composition atmosphérique peut apporter des indices sur leur formation et leur évolution.
