Watch Wind Turbine Stopper UFO

Compelling evidence of an alien visitation from space just took place when a bizarre UFO was recorded on video stopping a turbine as it moved through a wind farm, according to some alien investigators.

The video was shot in the remote area of Madjdanek, Lublin, Poland in April this year. It apparently shows an unusual circular object flying slowly towards a wind turbine.

The rotors that were turning, suddenly came to a complete stop as the orb was approaching. They started to rotate again after the object had passed.

Polish paranormal YouTube channel Grupa obserwacyjna posted the video clip to the commercial video sharing site.

According to the channel, the object came from the east and flew over the area for about an hour. The object disappeared after the recording.

It was claimed to have been filmed on April 17.

The event is now being debated on several online UFO forums.

According to some UFO researchers, NASA knows very well this kind of metallic, orb object. They say that the orbs following near to the space shuttle Atlantis were similar to this one.

Since the footage went online, other witnesses say that the same object was spotted over Zgorzelec flying in a north-easterly direction just within 24 hours of the event.

What Would Happen if a Massive Solar Storm Hit the Earth?

We all know that major storms can wreak havoc, flooding cities and decimating infrastructure. But there’s an even bigger worry than wind and rain: space weather. If a massive solar storm hit us, our technology would be wiped out. The entire planet could go dark.

“We’re much more reliant on technology these days that is vulnerable to space weather than we were in the past,” Thomas Berger, director of the Space Weather Prediction Center at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration told Gizmodo. “If we were hit by an extreme event today, it’d be very difficult to respond.”

“Solar storm” is a generic term used to describe a bunch of stuff the Sun hurls our way, including x-rays, charged particles, and magnetized plasma. A massive solar storm hasn’t hit the Earth since the mid-19th century, but space weather scientists are very worried about the possibility of another.

Solar Flares

A solar storm usually starts with a solar flare — a giant explosion on the surface of the sun that sends energy and particles streaming off into space. Small, C-class flares occur all the time and are too weak to affect the Earth, while mid-sized M-class flares can produce minor radio disruptions. X-class flares, meanwhile, are the largest explosions in the solar system, releasing up to a billion hydrogen bombs worth of energy. These eruptions occur very rarely, but when they do, they’re an epic sight.

One of the most powerful flares measured with modern instruments took place during a solar maximum in 2003. It was so large it maxed out our satellite sensors, which registered an X-28 (28 types larger than an X-1 flare, which itself is 10 times greater than an M1 flare). Here’s what that event looked like:

Despite observing flares for over a century, scientists still aren’t totally sure what causes the Sun to erupt. We do know that flares have a lot to do with disruptions in the Sun’s powerful magnetic field, which oscillates over the course of an 11-ish year solar cycle.

“Solar storms originate in magnetic features that erupt from the surface of the sun,” explained space weather scientist Joe Gurman, speaking to Gizmodo from NASA’s Goddard Spaceflight Center. “We call these active regions, or sunspots. When they’re big and ugly, that’s an indication that the magnetic field is changing rapidly. And when the magnetic field changes rapidly, that appears to be the cause — or related to the cause — of solar activity.”

A mid- to large-sized solar flare would send waves of high energy radiation — x rays and ultraviolet light — zipping toward the Earth. These types of radiation are powerful enough to rip electrons off of atoms. That’s exactly what they start doing when they hit the upper portion of our atmosphere, known as the ionosphere. Basically, the sky gets zapped with a giant electromagnetic pulse. But according to Berger, even the biggest flares don’t impact humans very much.

“It’s a huge EM pulse that roils up the ionosphere, causing it to expand out,” Berger said. “But the solar flare really doesn’t damage technology.”

The one exception is radio. Radio signals between the Earth and orbiting satellites can be blocked when the atmosphere becomes too charged.

“Radio communications are sometimes impacted,” Berger noted. “Over the horizon radio becomes difficult. When airplanes are flying over the poles, the only way they communicate with control centers is high frequency radio waves bouncing over the continents. But it’s just a temporary difficulty lasting ten minutes to hours at the most.”

We don’t have a great way of forecasting solar flares, and they hit the Earth too quickly for NOAA to provide airline companies with advance notice (it takes about eight minutes for sunlight to reach us).

“The only thing we can do is issue an alert when we see one,” Berger said. “Airlines are very interested in flare effects on high frequency communications, and if there’s a really large event, they’ll consider grounding flights.”

If you’re not an airline operator, you pretty much get to sit this one out. But don’t forget to check out the amazing images over at NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory every now and then.

Charged Particles

Minutes to hours after a solar flare lights up the sky, a stream of charged particles — electrons and protons — arrive at the Earth. They bombard the magnetosphere, a protective envelope around Earth created by our magnetic field. “We see the radiation level go up sometimes, which can indicate that particles are impinging on Earth’s orbit,” said Berger.

Occasionally, a large pulse of charged particles will hit orbiting satellites and damage their electronics. Particle radiation is also a big health risk for humans in space.

“We do have to worry about energetic particles on the ISS,” Gurman said. “If we ever get to the point of being a spacefaring race, they’re going to become a much bigger concern.” 

But by and large, the effects of solar particle radiation are buffered by the magnetosphere and atmosphere. It’s what’s coming next that you and me on the ground need to worry about.

Coronal Mass Ejections

When the Sun flares up, it sometimes shoots a giant cloud of magnetized plasma off into space. This is called a coronal mass ejection (CME). CMEs are the slowest form of solar weather, taking anywhere from 12 hours to several days to reach the Earth. They’re also by far the most dangerous.

Fortunately, because CMEs are slow moving, our space weather forecasters have a little more time to anticipate them. They examine images of the Sun, pulled from the SOHO and STEREO satellites. When our observatories see something big, NOAA responds.

Berger outlined what happens next: “A watch is issued when we see something happen on the Sun headed toward the Earth. Typically if there’s a large CME, something major we think could impact the Earth, we put out a watch.”

A CME will shoot pretty much straight out from the Sun, and there’s always a good chance that the Earth won’t end up in its path. If a CME is coming straight at us, it’ll first hit NASA’s ACE satellite, located at the L1 Lagrange point roughly a million miles in front of the Earth. If that happens, we’ve got anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour before a cloud of plasma rains down from above, interacting with our planet’s magnetosphere and triggering a geomagnetic storm.

That’s when you start to see effects on the power grid.

“This generates huge electrical currents in upper atmosphere of Earth,” Berger said. “Depending on how conductive the ground is, you can get large currents getting picked up by power stations and fed into the grid.” And that’s bad news, because “our grid isn’t designed for huge amounts of current coming out of the ground.”

Geomagnetic storm strength is measured in “disturbance storm time” or Dst, which essentially describes how hard a CME shakes up Earth’s magnetic field. Ordinary storms, which cause the northern lights to flare up but otherwise don’t impact us, register somewhere in the neighborhood of Dst = -50 nT (nanoTesla). The worst geomagnetic storm of the space age, which knocked out power across Quebec in March of 1989, registered a Dst = -600 nT.

But even that 1989 storm looks puny in comparison to the Carrington event, a geomagnetic storm that zapped the Earth 156 years ago. At the time, the damage wasn’t too bad. But a Carrington-sized storm today could spell disaster.

Monster Storms

The Carrington event of September, 1859 is named for Richard Carrington, the English astronomer who saw the sun flare up with his own eyes. In the days following Carrington’s observation, a series of powerful CMEs hit the Earth head-on, igniting the northern lights as far south as Cuba. Currents electrified telegraph lines, shocked technicians, set telegraph papers on fire, and caused widespread communications outages.

Modern estimates for the strength of this storm range from Dst = -800 nT to -1750 nT.

Human society is far more reliant on electricity today than it was 156 years ago. Berger pointed out that today we have pipelines, electrical transmission grids, and a lot more ground-based electrical conduction technology. So, what would happen if a Carrington-sized event struck us now? Pretty much ever aspect of the modern world would take a hit, according to a report by the National Academies of Sciences.

The ground currents induced by large geomagnetic storms can melt the copper windings of transformers that lie at the heart of power distribution systems. If this happens, it can lead to massive power outages. And because our power grid has grown much more interconnected over time, the effects of such an outage today could be spread far and wide.

It’s hard to overstate just how much this would uproot our lives. The lights would of course go out, as would the internet, and any device that draws current from the wall. In places with electronically-controlled municipal water supplies — like most modern cities — toilets and sewage treatment systems would stop working. Heating and air conditioning would fail. Perishable food and medication would be lost. ATMs would be useless. Gas pumps would go offline. And so forth.

GPS technology would also be knocked out. Said Grunman, “The GPS system depends on the very precise timing of a course of signals between two points, like a spacecraft and your phone. If you dump a bunch of energetic particles into the atmosphere, that effects your GPS. Which is sobering when you consider the replacement of old aircraft landing technology with GPS.”

Some of these effects could last years, and they’d be felt globally. “The entire magnetic field of the Earth is changing, so the entire Earth feels it,” said Berger.

It’s hard to fathom the social consequences of billions of power-hungry humans suddenly being pulled off the grid, but I think we can all agree it wouldn’t be pretty. What we do know for sure is that the economic toll would be enormous. The National Academies report estimates that total cost of a Carrington-sized event today could exceed $2 trillion dollars — 20 times greater than the cost of Hurricane Katrina.

It’s important to keep in mind that we aren’t talking about some incredibly far-fetched, Armageddon-style apocalypse situation here. In fact, in July of 2012, a massive CME ripped through Earth’s orbit and narrowly missed us. That event, which was picked up by NASA’s STEREO-A satellite, would have registered a Dst of -1200 nT — comparable to the Carrington event.

“If it had hit, we would still be picking up the pieces,” space weather scientist Daniel Baker of the University of Colorado told NASA in 2014. “How many other [storms] of this scale have just happened to miss Earth and our space detection systems? This is a pressing question that needs answers.”

Thanks to a growing army of space weather observatories, we’re much better able to predict CMEs than we were 20 years ago. Still, most space weather scientists agree that if a massive solar storm struck today, we’d be pretty screwed. But we’re trying to change that.

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy has assembled a task force to explore ways of responding to extreme events. Berger said that they have a national space weather strategy due out in October. The strategy will outlines what the US needs to do to be “better prepared.”

Berger couldn’t comment on the specifics of the policy strategy, so we’ll have to check in again this fall. He did hint that it would be heavy on the recommendations for power suppliers. (Currently, power companies respond to large solar storm warnings by re-routing power distribution around transformers.)

In the meanwhile, what can a space weather-conscious Earthling do? Most of the usual disaster preparedness advice applies. Build an emergency supply kit.Have a plan for getting in touch with loved ones should the phones fail. Keep your car tank at least half full of gasoline. Keep extra batteries on hand, or purchase a solar or hand-crank charger. Back up your data. Make sure you’ve got plenty of spare crowbars — wait, no, that’s the zombie apocalypse.

And of course, you can keep up with the latest solar storm warnings over atNOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center.

A Major Mystery About Earth's Magnetic Field Has Just Been Solved

For the first time, physicists have observed a mysterious process called magnetic reconnection—wherein opposing magnetic field lines join up, releasing a tremendous burst of energy. The discovery, published today inScience, may help us unlock the secrets of space weather and learn about some of the weirdest, most magnetic objects in the universe.

The magnetosphere, an invisible magnetic field surrounding our planet, is a critical shield for life on Earth. It protects us from all sorts of high energy particles emitted by the sun on a daily basis. When a particularly large burst of solar energy hits the edge of the magnetosphere (called the magnetopause), it can trigger space weather. This includes geomagnetic storms that light up the northern and southern skies with auroras, occasionally knocking out our satellites and power grids.

A better understanding of space weather is key to helping us prepare for thenext massive geomagnetic storm—a once-in-a-century event that could quite literally cause a global power surge. Magnetic reconnection is at the heart of the mystery, underlying both the formation of solar eruptions and how they interact with our planet.

“The process of space weather starts on the sun—reconnection there produces coronal mass ejections and solar flares, both of which lead to space weather at the Earth,” James Burch, a space weather scientist at the Southwest Research Institute told Gizmodo. “When the solar wind and its embedded magnetic field lines collide with Earth’s magnetosphere at a high angle, then you have a direct connection between the sun and the Earth.”

Now, for the first time, Burch and his colleagues have observed that sun-Earth connection at the subatomic scale, using data collected by NASA’sMagnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission. This high-resolution physics laboratory consists of four identical spacecraft that fly in pyramid formation around Earth’s magnetopause, collecting precise information on tiny charged particles every 30 milliseconds.

Almost as soon as the mission launched in March of 2015, researchers started observing magnetic reconnection at unprecedented resolution. The most detailed of those is the subject of the new paper. “We hit the jackpot,” Roy Torbert, MMS deputy principal investigator said in a statement. “The spacecraft passed directly through the electron dissipation region, and we were able to perform the first-ever physics experiment in this environment.”

The features of reconnection recorded in the data include a drop in the magnetic field to near zero, and a power spike generated by accelerating electrons. “We realized that the process of reconnection is really driven by electrons,” Burch said. “Before, all measurements had been made at much larger scales. People could see dramatic effects, but these are the result of reconnection, not the cause.”

Burch and his colleagues are continuing to study five other instances of magnetic reconnection recently observed by the MMS, and they’re hopeful the mission will yield more events for years to come. In addition to shedding light on space weather, magnetic reconnection can help us understand exotic astronomical objects like magnetars, as well as the strong magnetic environments created by fusion reactors.

“The quality of the MMS data is absolutely inspiring,” said James Drake, a physicist at the University of Maryland and a co-author on the study. “It’s not clear that there will ever be another mission quite like this one.”

Chernobrov’s Time Machine

Vadim Chernobrov is way out there. An energetic Russian with an Abe Lincoln beard and a polyester three-piece suit, Chernobrov cut his teeth in UFO research as an employee of the “spacecraft department” of Moscow’s Aviation Institute.

At one stage Chernobrov decided to branch into time travel. Not surprisingly, he had problems getting state funding.

 

With his meager savings he built a time machine himself. To avoid ridicule, Chernobrov and his team didn’t actually call it a time machine. They preferred “Prospective Space Transportation System.” The system is small: slightly larger than a basketball, in fact, and covered, apparently, in “electromagnetic skins.”

 

The orb has a top panel that could lift up, revealing a tangle of wires and several small clocks. One wire pokes out, connecting the device to an electrical transformer.

 

Chernobrov claims the Prospective Space Transportation System could control time rates. In his tests he claims to show that for every 3,600 seconds outside of the system that only 3,560 seconds would pass inside – 40 seconds slower.

 

The electromagnetic fields, he said, altered the passage of time.

This is kinda scary. We saw things like this in movies, like Gravity, but what happens when a micro meteorite hits a window of the space station? This photo is the answer to that question. Lucky for them that window held up under pressure, or they would have had to abandon the station.

In a recent study published in the journal Astrobiology, researchers Adam Frank and Woodruff Sullivan used newly obtained data to reformulate the famous Drake equation, which calculates the probability that intelligent life currently exists in the universe, to measure the probability that intelligent life has ever existed in the universe. Introduced by Dr. Frank Drake in 1961, the original Drake equation identified specific factors thought to play a role in the development of advanced civilizations in order to estimate the number of technological civilizations that may currently exist in our galaxy. Over the past half a century, it has been the most widely accepted tool in the scientific community to predict the current existence of other advanced civilizations ( via good.is ).

Yet three large uncertainties plague the original Drake equation. "We've known for a long time approximately how many stars exist,” Frank explained in a statement. “We didn't know how many of those stars had planets that could potentially harbor life, how often life might evolve and lead to intelligent beings, and how long any civilizations might last before becoming extinct… Thanks to NASA's Kepler satellite and other searches, we now know that roughly one-fifth of stars have planets in 'habitable zones,' where temperatures could support life as we know it. So one of the three big uncertainties has now been constrained." 

ALIEN LIFE EXISTS ON OTHER PLANETS

Although it is still completely unknown how long other civilizations might survive, a simple change of semantics to the proposed question eliminates this issue altogether. By looking at the probability of how many times in the history of the universe life has evolved to an advanced state, Frank and Sullivan estimate a one in 10 billion trillion chance that humans are the only intelligent species to have ever existed. “One in 10 billion trillion is incredibly small,” Frank said. “To me, this implies that other intelligent, technology-producing species very likely have evolved before us.”

While the odds are extremely high that we aren’t the first intelligent civilization to have ever existed, the original question still remains: Are there any other advanced civilizations that currently exist? "The universe is more than 13 billion years old," explains Sullivan. "That means that even if there have been a thousand civilizations in our own galaxy, if they live only as long as we have been around—roughly ten thousand years—then all of them are likely already extinct. And others won't evolve until we are long gone. For us to have much chance of success in finding another "contemporary" active technological civilization, on average they must last much longer than our present lifetime."

British Cop Witnesses TALL WHITE Aliens Inspecting Fresh Crop Circle

Not many people know this, but back in 2009 a British police officer witnessed ‘Alien Beings’ inspecting a fresh crop circle in a middle of a field!

 

The Police Sergeant who has not been named, witnessed the event back in 2009.  The Policeman was off duty at the time when he noticed the unusual ‘Beings’ in the field.

 

The Police Officer pulled his car over and walked over to the field to see what was going on as he apparently had a ‘strange’ feeling about what he was seeing.  However, as he approached the ‘men’ – who were all way over 6ft tall with long blond hair – he suddenly heard “the sound of static electricity” and the trio ran away ”faster than any man he had ever seen” so fast that it apparently almost seemed ‘unreal’.

Leaving the scene of the strange event the Police Officer jumped quickly back into his car and travelled back home to Marlborough, Wiltshire, and then contacted paranormal experts and told them he had spotted a UFO.

 

Not surprisingly the Police force that the Officer works for, refused to comment at the time and stated “That it was a personal matter!”

 

The unnamed Police Officer asked for support off a Gentleman called Andrew Russell who is a Crop Circle Investigator.  Andrew described in detail what the Police officer saw on that unusual day:

 

”At first he thought they were forensic officers as they were dressed in white coveralls. He stopped his car and approached the field. ‘The figures were all over 6ft and had blond hair. They seemed to be inspecting the crop. When he got to the edge of the field he heard what he believed to be a sound not dissimilar to static electricity.

”This crackling noise seemed to be running through the field and the crop was moving gently, close to where the noise was.

”He shouted to the figures who, at first, ignored him, not glancing at him. When he tried to enter the field they looked up and began running.

”He said; ‘They ran faster than any man I have ever seen. I’m no slouch but they were moving so fast. I looked away for a second and when I looked back they were gone.

”I then got scared. The noise was still around but I got an uneasy feeling and headed for the car. For the rest of the day I had a pounding headache I couldn’t shift.”

 

This strange incident happened on July 6th as the Police Officer was driving down the road.  Apparently the three very tall figures were inspecting the odd-shaped Crop Circle in the field.  They all appeared deeply interested and analysing the Crop Circle – was it them who made it, or possibly was it their fellow colleagues from a far!?

 

The crop circle had been there in the field for a few days before this incident.

 

 

2009 was a very popular year for Crop Circles in the Wiltshire area, UK.

 

When the Police Officer walked over the unusual beings, they suddenly become ‘disturbed’ looking and ran off at speeds beyond the Officers belief! As soon as he looked away for a split second they were ‘gone’

 

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said:

 

”The police officer was apparently off duty when this happened so we have no comment to make because it is a personal not a police matter.”

 

Another Crop Circle Expert, Colin Andrews, who investigated the incident alongside Andrew Russell, said he is ”convinced” by the police officer’s story and does not see any reason at all why the Officer would of made this story up!

 

”I am quite convinced the officer had an experience that day and one that we have not fully explored.”I think with the unusual movement of the being and the poltergeist experiences there is too much additional information to say that is something in nothing.” He said

 

Some have suspected that this was the Tall White Aliens that the Officer had witnessed.  The Tall whites have even been acknowledged by Edward Snowden, who believes that they are very much in contact with Planet Earth and watching our every move.

U.I.P SUMMARY – It is very interesting that this sighting was in Wiltshire, as this is one of the key UFO/Crop Circle areas around the world .Could it possibly be that what this Police Officer saw were the Beings who are responsible for these crop circles being formed around the UK, or perhaps they are just as curious as to ‘what else’ is out there trying to communicate with Earth.

 

Yes Crop Circles have been deemed by many to be elaborate fakes by students or Drunk Famers at night, but when you actually look at the sheer amount of detail involved to these incredible designs, I personally feel it is impossible for any humans to create such a spectacle over night, in the pitch black of night!

As far as what or WHO these Beings are, is a completely different matter altogether! The way that they have been described sounds just like the Tall White Aliens, and the way they move would kind of confirm that there were no odd-ball humans, but something else, something very unique and different!?

 

Is it a coincidence that one of the most unknown areas of the world, Stonehenge, is in Wiltshire, and that we have so many unusual sightings in this part of the UK……I don’t think so, and this is why this part of the world is one of THE top UFO Hotspots.

Godless Universe: A Physicist Searches for Meaning in Nature

It is time to face reality, California Institute of Technology theoretical physicist Sean Carroll says: There is just no such thing as God, or ghosts, or human souls that reside outside of the body. Everything in existence belongs to the natural world and is accessible to science, he argues. In his new book "The Big Picture: On the Origin of Life, Meaning, and the Universe Itself," out this week from Dutton, Carroll describes a guiding philosophy along these lines that he calls poetic naturalism. It excludes a supernatural or spiritual realm but still allows plenty of room for life to have a purpose.

"I think we can bring ideas like meaning and morality into our discussions of the natural world," Carroll says. "The ways that we talk about the universe are what make it meaningful." He eloquently argues that point in his far-ranging book, which takes on the origins of consciousness, the likeliness of God based on a rigorous application of Bayesian probability statistics, and many other "big" questions that scientists are often loath to tackle.

Scientific American spoke with Carroll about his philosophy and how we can all take a closer look at just what we truly, deeply believe.
[An edited transcript of the conversation follows.]

Naturalism is the viewpoint that everything arises from natural causes and that there is no supernatural realm. You coin the term "poetic naturalism" for your own particular brand of this guiding philosophy. Why the need for a new term?
Naturalism has been certainly been around for a very long time, but as more people become naturalists and talk to each other, their disagreements within naturalism are interesting. I thought there was a judicious middle ground, which I call poetic, between 'the world is just a bunch of particles," and "science can be used to discover meaning and morality."

To me the connotations of "poetic" are that there's some human choice that comes into how we talk about the world. In particular, when it comes to questions of morality and meaning, the way we go about deciding what is right and wrong, and meaningful or not, is not the same as the way we discover what is true and false.

Just because we have no evidence of another realm of reality beyond the physical world, how can we conclude it doesn't exist?
It's not a matter of certainty, ever. I would make the argument that if there were a supernatural element that played a role in our everyday life in some noticeable way, it's very, very likely we would have noticed it. It just seems weird that this kind of thing would be so crucial and yet so difficult to notice in any controlled scientific way. I would make the case that it is sufficiently unlikely in a fair Bayesian accounting that we don't need to spend any time thinking about it anymore. Five hundred years ago it would have been a possibility. I think these days we're ready to move on.

All I can say at the end of the day is we should all be trying as hard as we can to guard against our individual cognitive biases, the things we want to be true. The existence of life after death, for example, I would love that to be true. My cognitive bias is in favor of that. And yet I don't think it is true. The best we can do is try to be honest.

So do you think it's impossible for a religious person to believe in poetic naturalism? 
Of course that depends on what you mean by religious. There's actually a movement called religious naturalism. Religion involves a whole bunch of things—practices, casts of mind, morals, etc., so you can certainly imagine calling yourself religious, reading the Bible, going to church and just not believing in God. I suspect the number of people who do that is much larger than the number of people who admit to it.

The mistake comes when we try to pretend that it doesn't matter what our view of the ontology of the world is. I think it does matter. But having made those decisions [about your worldview], there are many ways you can live a life that’s meaningful and socially relevant and familial. I think we have a misunderstanding of meaning because we relate it to something outside the natural world, when it doesn't have to be that.

This argument for naturalism feels particularly timely, when politicians and many in society are increasingly hostile to science and evidence-based thinking. How receptive to the approach of naturalism do you think most people are?
I think that scientists have a sort of professional level of understanding of the universe, and scientists are overwhelmingly naturalists. Whereas people on the street, or in Washington, D.C., still don't admit to this. There aren't a lot of naturalists in Congress. The way we talk about these things in the public sphere has not caught up with the way we understand the universe as it really is.

As a physicist, what inspired you to write a book essentially on philosophy?
It evolved over a very long time. I’ve always been interested in not only physics directly, but also the wider consequences. I was a philosophy minor as an undergraduate. I always have thought that doing physics was part of a larger intellectual project of trying to understand the whole world in different ways.

What do you hope readers take away from this book?
I think there's a bunch of people who still, because they just haven't thought about it that much, have the informal idea that science can explain what happens when two atoms bump into each other, but it can't explain how the universe started or how life began. I hope people get the idea that we're well on our way to answering those questions. There's no obstacle in our way that says we're just not going to be able to.

Government insider looks for UFOs, doesn’t find them at Area 51

A man who spent 20 years working in national security for the federal government has recently joined a group of scientist searching for evidence of UFOs. In a recent interview, he says he has been interested in the topic since childhood, and in all his time in the government, he has found no evidence of a cover-up. That includes Area 51, which he has visited in an official capacity.

The government insider’s name is Chris Mellon. An interview with Mellon by author and journalist Leslie Kean was posted as a Huffington Post blog, earlier this week. According to the blog post, Mellon worked for the Department of Defense (DoD) and other intelligence organizations, where he received a number of awards, including  the National Reconnaissance Office Gold Medal and the Defense Intelligence Agency Director’s Medal.

Mellon told Kean, he has also had a lifetime interest in UFOs. His curiosity began when he saw a convincing UFO film captured by a friend of his school’s principal.

“It showed a huge, golden disc-shaped object serenely moving through sunny, blue skies, passing through cumulous clouds in a manner that would be very hard to fake,” Mellon recalled. “I have no idea what became of the movie, but it filled me with wonder and awe.”

Mellon says that after seeing the movie, he began reading everything he could get his hands on about UFOs. He even did a research project on UFOs in college.

Throughout his professional career, Mellon says he kept his UFO interests to himself.

One topic Kean was interested in discussing with Mellon was the presidential election. In particular,Clinton’s comments regarding her willingness to look for UFO files if she becomes president. Mellon said he did not think Clinton would be given access to any classified programs involving UFOs, if they even exist.

“I recall instances when White House officials sought briefings on highly compartmented DoD programs and were flatly refused.  Access to such programs is on a need to know basis,” explained Mellon. “In general, nobody outside DoD, including the Secretary of State, is deemed to have a need to know. Officials like John Podesta and Secretary Clinton can easily serve for years in senior positions and be avid consumers of classified intelligence analysis but never obtain access to DoD’s compartmented programs, which mostly relate to new weapons systems.”

Even if Clinton were able to gain access to information on classified programs, in all of his years working with secret programs, Mellon found nothing to convince him there is a hidden UFO project. Not even during his visits to Area 51.

“I highly doubt DoD or any other government agency is concealing UFO information,” Mellon told Kean. “I participated in a comprehensive review of DoD’s black programs and spent over a decade conducting oversight of the national foreign intelligence program, an almost totally separate world of secrets. I visited Area 51 and other military, intelligence and research facilities. During all those years, I never detected the faintest hint of government interest or involvement in UFOs.”

Although, Mellon was unaware of any official government UFO program, he says there are several credible incidents that, he believes, makes the UFO phenomenon worthy of scientific study. These include a UFO incident witnessed by police officers in 1989, and a wave of triangle-shaped UFOs seen over Belgium that was investigated by their military.

He also recalled an interesting UFO report he received during his career.

Mellon recounted, “Knowing of my interest in UFOs, a breathless naval aviator called me one day to report that he was present minutes earlier when a Navy jet landed after being circled by a UFO in broad daylight. The Navy did not pursue the issue as far as I could tell.”

The obvious question is, why would the Navy not pursue such a remarkable event?

“In my experience, on those rare occasions when UFO incidents involving the government occur, they are highly inconvenient, awkward and embarrassing for the afflicted government officials who want nothing more than to put the issue behind them as quickly as possible,” Mellon explained. “The military seems generally unwilling to investigate even when UFO reports come from our own military pilots or officials in high office such as Fife Symington, the former governor of Arizona.  Senior officials are so fearful of being ridiculed that they conceal any expression of interest or curiosity.”

Mellon believes that in an environment where the military is not willing to touch the topic of UFOs, it is up to the public to find answers.

“In my view, calling for the end to an alleged government UFO cover-up is almost certainly a dead end, and does not help inspire anyone in government to become more open to the topic,” says Mellon.

Instead, Mellon has joined the board of a group calling itself UFODATA. They are a group of scientists and researchers who are planning to put together UFO listening posts that can be deployed across the planet. These stations will be able to collect telemetry on unidentified objects to help determine what they are.

According to Mellon, “UFODATA’s findings, one way or another, can help us to resolve this perennial mystery and perhaps even help us to better understand the universe and mankind’s place within it.”

This video shows an object falling from the sky slowly and at an angle that fits that of a UFO or space junk falling more than that of a meteorite, but its explosion makes me think meteor.

Video states: Goldwater had a fascination for the UFO issue, and, throughout his life and career, made more than a few notable comments and observations on the subject. The bulk of them revolved around his attempts to determine the truth about longstanding rumors that something of a UFO nature (and something of deep significance, too) was secretly held at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. The location of whatever this “something” may have been has variously been termed as “Hangar 18” and the “Blue Room.” On March 28, 1975, Goldwater wrote the following, highly thought-provoking, words to a UFO researcher named Shlomo Arnon: “The subject of UFOs is one that has interested me for some long time. About ten or twelve years ago I made an effort to find out what was in the building at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where the information is stored that has been collected by the Air Force, and I was understandably denied this request. It is still classified above Top Secret.” On more than a few occasions, the subject of UFOs featured heavily on Larry King Live. On one occasion, specifically in 1994, the person that King had on his show to talk about UFOs was none other than Goldwater himself, who told King: “I think at Wright-Patterson, if you could get into certain places, you’d find out what the Air Force and the government does know about UFOs. Reportedly, a spaceship landed. It was all hushed up. I called Curtis LeMay and I said, ‘General, I know we have a room at Wright-Patterson where you put all this secret stuff. Could I go in there?’ I’ve never heard General LeMay get mad, but he got madder than hell at me, cussed me out, and said, ‘Don’t ever ask me that question again!’”

Where are the aliens?

We broke down mentions by state to see which areas of the country were generating the most UFO conversation.

While California often gets the most mentions because of its large population, it’s not just down to that this time.

A huge chunk of Californian UFO sightings occurred on 7th November when a mysterious light was seen by hundreds of people. It was later confirmed as a Naval missile test but not everyone was convinced.

We found that the gender ratio of UFO-related posts was fairly evenly split.

While they registered just a few posts each, percentage-wise it was Delaware and Connecticut that had the most UFO mentions from males while Hawaii and South Carolina had the most from females.

Photographer snaps 'UFOs' at Conwy Castle

Former telephone engineer Trevor Owen believes he spotted extraterrestrial visitors in the sky above the landmark

An eagle-eyed photographer claims to have snapped extraterrestrial visitors above one of North Wales’ best known landmarks.

Former telephone engineer Trevor Owen went out on April 10 to get some shots of Conwy Castle and the Conwy Valley from a lay-by in Glan Conwy.

When he printed the photographs this week, he spotted a cluster of what looked like white spots in the sky above the castle.

“Basically, I think there were UFOs above Conwy Castle,” said Trevor, 85.

“I didn’t spot anything strange when I took the pictures.

“To me it was just a beautiful morning, so I got up at around 5am to make the most of the light, and took the photographs at 5.33am.

“I know the white spots can’t be dust, because dust on lenses look like black spots.

“I’ve taken a sequence of photographs of the same scene and there aren’t any white spots in any of the others, just in the one photograph.”

Trevor, who used to work for BT as a telephone engineer, said he does believe in UFOs.

“I do believe they exist because I don’t believe humans are the only living things in the entire universe,” he said.

“I’m not that interested in them, but I know others are so that’s why I contacted the Daily Post.”

The well-known journalist and TV personality Jaime Maussan claims to have provided evidence from tens of thousands of people from around the world on UFOs and extraterrestrial activity. In the video “VIDEO EVIDENCE THAT UFOs ARE REAL” on UFOTV, recorded during the MUFON Symposium in 2015, he presents recent developments in the field of ufology.

He shows video footage and pictures of invisible UFOs taken by infrared cameras, night vision, NASA space probes, satellites and aircraft cameras.

UFOs are captured by space probes of NASA in space, the sun, around comets, near volcanoes and often appear mysterious balls in the air.

Maussan also disclosed the ‘unseen alien images” of the world famous Roswell crash on a major conference on extraterrestrial life in Mexico City last year. The globally recognized UFO expert says the photos provide evidence that aliens exist.

Around the time of the UFO crash, there were no sketches or models of aliens, so the pictures can not be fake. Also fellow researcher Richard Dolan is sure the photos are authentic. The alien body is too detailed and precise to be made up.

I was watching the nigh sky with a night vision device when i managed to capture a bright object/ ufo, and when the ufo got close to me it started to make a sound and it quits making the sound as soon as it got behind the tree line, i don’t think it was a computer problem or anything like that because you can still hear the background noise when ufo is making the sound. The most intriguing of this event is that i never heard that noise while i was recording the ufo, i just noticed the sound when i was taking a look at the videos i recorded that night, i was going to delete it because it didn’t seem interesting but that sound is just awesome.I have had incredible ufo sightings but this is the first one with sound. I still can’t believe it.

Witness report: This was recorded from my dash cam on May 7th 2016 about 3:00hrs. On I-5 around the 325 mile mark, heading south. I was traveling with three other trucks who also saw this craft. 
I first saw a light sweep the sky on the right side of this video frame. One swept across the sky and a second one occurred a few seconds later. After the second light the first thing I thought was someone was shinning deer. 
A couple more second passed and we saw bright white lights on what I thought was a plane moving from right to left out in the distance going across the highway. Maybe 2miles out in front of us, very low to the ground. 
It crossed the interstate and climbed in attitude and started to circle heading east and than north, and than south returned to roughly the same place it crossed the interstate and crossed back going west, and than the object and lights disappeared. I kept watching out my passenger window to see if I could spot the lights, but I saw nothing. I turned back to watch the road ahead and talking on the CB with the other driver about the strange way that was flying. There was something odd about the way it maneuvered. I notice lights reflecting in my passenger window and thought it was from the oncoming traffic, and I glanced over to see what it was and saw this craft coming straight at me. 
I thought it was going to crash into me at that point. It had three very bright white lights. Like large round spotlights across the font edge of the vehicle. When I say edge thats all I could make out as it didn’t look to have body or hight to it. As it approached It slowed and turned and banked almost in place at the same time, and came up over my truck. It made no sound, it had no wings, no marking lights, no fuselage, no tail, no Plane, no drone, no helicopter. 
We were traveling about 60 to 63 mph and as you see it was moving just a bit faster than we were going. It may have bee about 50 ft. above us.

De Amerikaanse investeerder Christopher Mellon werkte 20 jaar voor de federale overheid. Hij heeft zich nu voor het eerst openlijk uitgesproken over de informatie die de overheid heeft over UFO’s.

Mellon was onder meer werkzaam voor het ministerie van Defensie en binnen de inlichtingengemeenschap. Voor zijn werkzaamheden heeft hij verschillende onderscheidingen gekregen. Hij bezocht onder meer Area 51 en diverse andere bases.

Hij raakte geïnteresseerd in UFO’s toen een vriend hem als kind een filmpje van een enorm schijfvormig, goudkleurig object liet zien. Hij begon boeken te lezen over UFO’s en deed er op de universiteit een onderzoeksproject over voor zijn professor natuurkunde.

Hoogst frustrerend

Mellon denkt niet dat Hillary Clinton, als ze president wordt, toegang zal krijgen tot geheime overheidsprogramma’s over UFO’s. “Ik herinner me gevallen waarbij medewerkers van het Witte Huis geen toegang konden krijgen tot geheime programma’s van het ministerie van Defensie. Mensen als Clinton kunnen jarenlang hoge posities bekleden zonder ooit toegang te krijgen tot geheime programma’s van het ministerie, die veelal gaan over nieuwe wapensystemen.”

Er waren enkele incidenten met betrekking tot UFO’s toen Mellon voor de overheid werkte. Een marinepiloot belde hem op een dag op om te zeggen dat een UFO rond een gevechtsvliegtuig cirkelde. De marine deed er voor zover hij wist verder geen onderzoek naar.

Daarnaast werden op de radar vier of vijf heldere UFO’s vastgelegd aan de avondhemel. Iedereen stond voor een raadsel, aldus Mellon. Geen enkele overheidsmedewerker toonde ook maar enige interesse, zelfs niet nadat de beelden tijdens het tv-programma Nightline waren getoond. “Ik vond het totale gebrek aan wetenschappelijke nieuwsgierigheid vanwege politieke correctheid hoogst frustrerend,” zei hij.

Geen eenduidige verklaring

Als Clinton het UFO-onderwerp tot op de bodem wil uitzoeken, kan ze volgens Mellon het beste de NORAD, een militaire organisatie die waakt over het luchtruim van de VS, onderzoek laten verrichten.

Volgens hem zijn er genoeg goed gedocumenteerde UFO-waarnemingen om een wetenschappelijk onderzoek in te stellen. Er zijn genoeg gegevens, meldingen door geloofwaardige getuigen, video’s gemaakt door getrainde militairen en politieagenten en radarbeelden, aldus Mellon.

Hij was vooral onder de indruk van de UFO-waarneming in november 1989 in België, toen 13 politieagenten en honderden andere getuigen twee driehoekige vaartuigen zagen boven het land. De Belgische luchtmacht stelde een onderzoek in, werkte samen met een groep wetenschappers en raadpleegde de VS en NAVO-landen, maar kon geen eenduidige verklaring geven.

UFO-mysterie oplossen

Op 30 maart 1993 zagen meer dan 100 getuigen, waaronder politieagenten en militairen, een driehoekig vaartuig boven Engeland. Het object was in staat om vanuit stilstand weg te schieten. Het Britse ministerie van Defensie concludeerde dat ‘een ongeïdentificeerd object (of objecten), waarvan de herkomst niet bekend was, boven Groot-Brittannië opereerde’.

Mellon benadrukt dat deze objecten geen eigendom waren van het Amerikaanse ministerie van Defensie. Hij voegt toe dat het Amerikaanse leger nieuwe vaartuigen niet test boven dichtbevolkte gebieden.

Hij merkt op dat het leger over het algemeen niet bereid is om onderzoek te doen naar UFO-meldingen, zelfs als ze afkomstig zijn van legerpiloten of hoge functionarissen, zoals oud-gouverneur van Arizona Fyfe Symington.

Mellon heeft gedurende zijn carrière geen gecrashte schotels of buitgemaakte technologie van aliens gezien, maar wil er wel alles aan doen om het UFO-mysterie op te lossen. Samen met een groep wetenschappers en ingenieurs bouwt hij een groot netwerk van meetstations die gegevens gaan verzamelen in gebieden waar veel UFO’s worden waargenomen. Ohio witness considers UFO wanted to be seen

An Ohio witness east of Westerville reported a close encounter with a triangle UFO after getting a psychic impression to go outside, according to testimony in Case 76141 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The incident occurred at 10:05 p.m., on September 14, 2015, and was reported to MUFON on May 1, 2016.

“I observed the same bright light approaching from the north that I had seen just a few nights prior and I had no camera with me,” the witness stated.“The craft entered my frame of vision from the west skimming the tree tops, turned 90 degrees on a dime, and the craft was moving directly at me.”

The witness described the craft’s lighting.

“The navigational lights were that of a jet, but the headlight was 10 times brighter than a typical jet headlight. I had just taken my camera in from my night of sky gazing, took the dog out, took her back in, and started to lock up the door for the night when I got a ‘psychic’ message to return outside and to stand by a particular tree, which I did. Very strange.”

But the idea to go outside to this particular location quickly paid off.

“Sure as the devil, that’s when I spotted the craft approaching from the west and just north of me. I backed away from the tree and boldly stood as the craft centered directly between my eyes and came overhead at an estimated 15 – 20 mph. or less.”

The craft was also very well lit.

“It presented what appeared to be a full display of lights, including a ring of brilliant, red, individual lights, dead center in the belly of the craft. It was lit like ‘Times Square’ and utterly silent. Another triangle, but this time, just over my head. This time, left light red and right, green; different from prior, higher slightly, higher altitude sightings of two triangles together, with red and white lights only, from days earlier. The head-beam was brighter than the moon and cast for a couple miles forward, at least, and came over at an estimated 100 feet – 125 feet at best. It was very low and slow.”

The object was also moving very slow.

“I know I said 15 – 20 mph., but in reality it may have been moving at 5 mph. for all I know. I was hypnotized by the green light and a feeling of peace and love that came over me. Again, very strange.”

The witness was amazed at the sighting.

“Whoever or whatever they are, allowed me to see the entire craft. I was in absolute awe. And Iwasn’t the least bit frightened. I know the light mesmerized me as I stood smiling at the craft approaching me. If it were any lower, I could have hit it with a rock. As it passed overhead, I was dead center with the brilliant, red belly lights. If they wanted to abduct me, they could have. As it was about to exit our property, the only sound it made was a low crackling sound. The back edge was trimmed with yellow-orange oblong ports. I got a great look at the craft, but missed a sensational photo op. This struck me as a total anti-gravity craft, as the giant equilateral triangle barely moved through the air, with no wind or air disturbance being generated whatsoever.”

NASA Finds 1,284 Alien Planets, Biggest Haul Yet, with Kepler Space Telescope

The number of known alien planets has just gone up by more than 60 percent.

NASA's Kepler space telescope has discovered 1,284 new exoplanets, including nine rocky worlds that might be capable of supporting life as we know it, astronomers announced today (May 10). This is by far the largest haul of alien planets ever unveiled at one time.

The total exoplanet tally now stands at about 3,200, and Kepler has found 2,235 of them, NASA officials said. [1,284 Exoplanets Found: NASA's Kepler Space Telescope Discovery in Pictures]

"We now know that exoplanets are common, most stars in our galaxy have planetary systems and a reasonable fraction of stars in our galaxy have potentially habitable planets," Paul Hertz, Astrophysics Division director at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., said during a news conference today. "Knowing this the first step toward addressing the question, 'Are we alone in the universe?'"

Indeed, data gathered by Kepler and other instruments suggest that about 25 percent of all the "normal" (main-sequence) stars in the Milky Way harbor roughly Earth-size planets in their habitable zones, that just-right range of distances at which liquid water can exist on a world's surface.

There are at least 70 billion main-sequence stars in the galaxy, said Kepler mission scientist Natalie Batalha, of NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California.

"You can see, doing the math, that you're talking about tens of billions of potentially habitable, Earth-sized planets out there in the galaxy," Batalha said during today's new conference.

The $600 million Kepler mission launched in March 2009, tasked with determining how common Earth-like planets are throughout the Milky Way. The observatory finds alien worlds by noticing the tiny brightness dips caused when the planets cross the face of, or transit, their host stars from Kepler's perspective.

Kepler conducted its original planet hunt until May 2013, when the second of the telescope's four orientation-maintaining reaction wheels failed, robbing the observatory of the precise pointing ability needed to spot transiting planets. During this prime mission, Kepler found more than 4,000 planet "candidates" that needed to be confirmed by follow-up work.

Previously, astronomers had usually attempted to validate Kepler finds by observing the candidates using ground-based instruments. But the team behind today's announcement took a statistical approach, devising a confirmation method based on probability. [Gallery: A World of Kepler Planets]

This technique relies on computer simulations to determine how likely it is that a particular brightness dip was caused by a bona fide planet, as opposed to an "imposter" such as a star or brown dwarf. (A brown dwarf is a "failed star," too big to be a planet but too small to undergo nuclear fusion reactions in its interior.)

Any candidate with more than a 99 percent chance of being a real exoplanet was deemed to be validated, researchers said.

The team, led by Tim Morton of Princeton University in New Jersey, applied this statistical method to every one of the candidates spotted during Kepler's original mission. The researchers confirmed 984 previously vetted planets and identified 1,284 new worlds. An additional 1,327 are likely to be planets, whereas 707 are probably imposters, team members said.

About 550 of the newly validated 1,284 are small enough that they could be rocky, scientists said. And nine of those small planets might be able to support life, bringing the total number of confirmed habitable-zone Kepler planets to 21. (An additional 15 or so possibly rocky, habitable-zone Kepler worlds still await confirmation, Batalha said.)

Understanding exoplanets

While the sheer number of exoplanets found by Kepler is impressive, mission team members are more interested in understanding the broad outlines of the alien-planet population, Batalha said.

And the Kepler data are allowing scientists to take a good big-picture look at the galaxy's planetary systems. For example, the telescope's observations have revealed many "super-Earths" and "mini-Neptunes" — planets larger than Earth but considerably smaller than the gas giants found in the outer solar system.

"I think one of the biggest things that Kepler has shown us is that there are lots of these planets that have no analog in our solar system," Morton said.

Furthermore, the 1,284 newfound worlds further support what previous Kepler discoveries had revealed: that small, rocky worlds such as Earth are the most common type of planet in the Milky Way, Morton added.

Kepler's original planet hunt may have ended in May 2013, but the observatory is still studying the heavens today. Mission team members figured out how to stabilize the observatory using sunlight pressure and the remaining two reaction wheels, and in 2014, Kepler embarked on a new mission called K2.

The spacecraft continues to hunt for alien planets during the K2 mission, but is also studying other cosmic objects and phenomena such as supernova explosions, comets and asteroids. Kepler has enough fuel on board to continue operating until the middle of 2018, team members have said.

NASA has gotten their hands on a GoPro and they seem to be making good use of it. The agency recently strapped the camera to a rocket travelling at 3,800 mph. As one can imagine, it was quite the video. Can anyone spot the UFO?

NASA GETS EXTREME WITH THE GOPRO

Surfers, skateboarders, and amateur filmmakers all love the GoPro for its portability and ease of use. Despite having all the technology they could possibly want at their fingertips, NASA has decided to get on the GoPro bandwagon as well. The agency just produced a mesmerising video using the popular action camera, and yeah, it was action packed. NASA attached the camera to the body of a rocket that was travelling at an insane 3,800 mph. This isn’t the first time the agency has worked with this particular camera, however, it likely tops all the other videos. Despite being an incredibly entertaining film, the camera had an educational angle as well.

CAMERA USED TO ANALYZE STABILITY

NASA claims the GoPro was sued to help measure aerodynamics and the stability of the spacecraft for future launches. After lift-off, we can see the rocket’s intensity as the GoPro spins violently. In a matter of seconds, the image slowly calms down as viewers are left to gaze at the beautiful view of the rocket leaving the comforting atmosphere of Earth. From there, the rocket splits in half as one part can be seen traveling back to earth. Reports are claiming this is the most beautiful NASA video that has ever produced. While it’s hard to disagree with that, some think the agency had other motives in mind.

SPYING ON UFO

This could very well be a simple video to show off the space agency’s technology to the words, but some UFO hunters believe there is more to this video than we can imagine. According to them, UFO’s in orbit around Earth are far from rare. In fact, they are everywhere and we have documented evidence of them. The government always denies the sighting of UFO’s but could it be a cover up? Attaching a camera to a rocket may be the government’s way of spying on UFO’s. Perhaps they don’t want their rockets tampered with by alien forces or perhaps just want to discreetly observe the aliens orbiting our planet. This is all a far-fetched conspiracy theory, but stranger things have happened.

Bionic Implant Improves Vision for Some Eye Patients

It may sound like something out of "Star Trek": Doctors have implanted a device in patients that has restored some central vision after advanced eye disease left those individuals with only limited peripheral vision. This is the first time that artificial and natural vision has ever been integrated in humans, the U.K.-based research team said.

The study was small and preliminary, involving only four patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The research team reported that the implant enabled the patients to recognize the outline of faces and some facial characteristics, such as whether the mouth was open or closed — ordinary details of life that had long been lost to these patients, as AMD slowly robbed them of their vision.

The research was presented this week (May 3) at the annual meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) in Seattle, Washington. [5 Experts Answer: What's the Best Way to Preserve My Eyesight?]

AMD, as the name implies, is a deterioration of the eye's macula, a small area in the back of the eye that allows you to see fine details clearly. AMD does not lead to complete blindness, but rather to the gradual loss of central vision that can interfere with everyday activities, such as the ability to see faces, read or do close work, such as cooking. The remaining peripheral vision doesn't provide the acuity for such activities.

AMD is the leading cause of vision loss in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 2 million Americans have AMD — a number that's expected to more than double by 2050, according to government data. AMD is most common among people over age 65. The cause is unknown, but people's risk of being stricken by the condition is heavily influenced by smoking and genetics.

Doctors have been successful in slowing the advance of AMD through a dietary supplement regimen comprising vitamin C, beta-carotene and other nutrients. Injections of prescription drugs are also used to treat certain kinds of advanced AMD. However, no treatment can reverse the loss of vision.

To restore central vision in four patients with advanced AMD, doctors implanted into their eyes a device called the Argus II electronic epiretinal prosthesis. This is a new commercial product that, in earlier incarnations, has restored very limited sight to people who had only perception-of-light vision as a result of a rare, degenerative eye disease. The device is essentially a miniature camera attached to the back of the eye that captures images and sends electrical signals to the brain. [The 7 Biggest Mysteries of the Human Body]

None of the patients reported "confusion" about what they were seeing when the device was turned on. This was a concern for the researchers, because the brain was receiving a combination of natural electrical impulses from the peripheral areas of the eye as well as artificial impulses from the central implant, and they didn't know how the brain would interpret this.

Another element of success was that the implant didn't seem to cause problems in the patients' bodies; they tolerated them for up to six months, with no signs of infection.

The researchers wrote that, while previous implants have helped people with rare diseases, the latest research results may "indicate a new way of restoring central vision in one of the most common causes of severe loss of central vision in people over the age of 50, dry age-related macular degeneration … for which no other treatments are currently available."

The research team comprised doctors and engineers from the University of Manchester in England and the company that makes the implant, Second Sight Medical Products in Sylmar, California.

Massive Alien Entity Floating Over Mexico Proves Aliens are Already Here

A video showing a UFO of considerable proportions that strongly resembles a living creature has recently surfaced. Could this prove the UFO phenomenon is real, and even more, that otherworldly creatures reside on the Earth?

The sky is full of mysterious sightings, and although most of them can be given a rational explanation, there are some that seem to defy all logic. It’s true that even the unexplained can be interpreted as being nothing more than a common appearance, but thinking beyond that will offer relevant clues defining our world.

 

While Earth may be home to various undiscovered (or undocumented) alien lifeforms, there will always be skeptics trying to alter this perception by ridiculing the unusual, making it look like something childish or pathetic. This however is understandable, considering that cgi today can easily imitate reality, thus veiling an authentic and mystic phenomenon in a shroud of disbelief.

 

Such is the case of Zeroids – one of the first lifeforms to arrive and develop in space. These alien entities are capable of surviving in zero atmospheric pressure conditions from space, and are also known to reside on our planet. It may sound impossible, but alien entities are already among us, and there are numerous videos capturing their unusual behavior.

 

They float at extremely high altitudes, and are usually observed using a telescope. While some sightings are only visible in full light spectrum, these zeroids can be seen with the naked eye. These fascinating alien creatures are poorly documented, although many researchers know and even acknowledge their existence.

 

 

In 2012, Dr. Franklin Ruehl, an American ufologist and cryptozoologist with a Ph.D. in theoretical nuclear physics from UCLA, shared his opinions about zeroids in an article for The Huffington Post.

• Considering that our island universe is approximately 13.7 billion years old, it is conceivable that zeroids represent the earliest forms in the cosmic backdrop, perhaps even existing for nearly that entire time,” he wrote. “With such an elonged span of time at their disposal, zeroids could easily have trod many different evolutionary paths: They may range in dimensionality from the microscopic to the macroscopic.

According to Dr. Ruehl, these ancient, organic beings could be found throughout the entire universe and have adapted to different conditions of life. He suggests that such creatures can vary from the “utterly simple to the extraordinary complex,” they take various shapes and sizes and can have a solitary life, as well as live inside vast colonies. He also speculates that the “larger zeroidal entities might possibly feast upon smaller ones,” theory that’s similar to what we call the “food chain” here on earth, but on a universal scale.

 

On May 3, 2016, a video has surfaced revealing an impressive zeroid sighting floating above Guadalajara, Mexico. It strongly resembles a blue whale, but from another dimension, and it may also prove that Ruehl’s theory regarding smaller zeroids being assimilated or eaten by the bigger ones is true. US General Warns of Little Green Men and Hybrid Armies in the Near Future

An unprecedented race to find alien lifeforms outside of our planet has recently began. Declassified files from different institutions have shown that UFOs are an actual phenomenon that has been kept at bay for many years. Prominent figures from across the world are now slowly preparing the world for UFO disclosure. The moment seems right with all the massive shift in technology, but are we going to be satisfied upon learning the truth?

 

A recent episode of such sort has as its protagonist an important American figure. General Mark A. Milley, the 39th Chief of Staff of the U.S Army, has warned the world about the upcoming events that are about to change the world as we know it. A few decades back, such a statement would had been considered a fantasy point of view to say the least, but recent years have shown that even the impossible can be achieved if we only desire badly enough.

 

General Milley spilled the beans about a certain topic that has been considered taboo for countless years – aliens and the UFO phenomenon, which in his acceptance appears to be extremely real. In a press conference he let the following information slip away:

 

“I can tell you that, from personal experience, and I know there’s many others who could tell you that as well…you’ll be dealing with terrorists, you’ll be dealing with hybrid armies, you’ll be dealing with little green men…and you’ll going to be dealing with it all, and it’s all going to be dealt with simultaneously. For that, you’re going to have to be ready. That’s why readiness, in my mind, is number one.”

 

 

 

This is a direct warning signal for the American people, and also the world. An imposing figure from the U.S. army has once again revealed what the future holds in store for us. The icing on the cake is probably the direct reference to the “little green men” that, according to the general, will make their presence noticed in the near future.

 

But why does he speak of aliens as a threat? Is it possible that the world governments have been provoking these otherworldly beings to reveal themselves to the world? Do they really know of their existence?

 

After thoroughly analyzing this statement, along with many other facts noticed throughout the years, an unusual scenario loomed into my mind. What if the U.S. government did have a secret pact with these otherworldly visitors, and are now planning to end it because our earthly technology has reached a considerable level?

 

If so, it’s possible that the U.S. has borrowed their knowledge in exchange for certain things such as free abduction and exchange programs, green light to monitor our species, and even free access to walk among us. All of these were possible through a silence treaty that is about to be broken.

 

 

This would explain why NASA has bombed the moon in 2009, and why we haven’t returned there for so long. A substantial goal for humanity has been to walk and eventually set camp on Earth’s natural satellite. However, we’ve briskly renounced our dream soon after achieving the first step. Were the alien outposts discovered there the main reason for this? Numerous photos that were made public by various governmental institutions show plenty of unidentified objects found in the vicinity of our landers and orbiters, but also structures resembling mining facilities.

 

If this is the case, it’s possible that the alien treaty has been (or soon will be) violated by our earthly rulers. The outcome can only be interpreted for the time being, but the future doesn’t look so bright for the regular humans.

 

Whatever the case, we can only wait for the final disclosure event. The warning has been launched, and we may have a few more years to prepare for the future, so if you haven’t built a bunker yet, you may need to reconsider your list of priorities. Search no longer for the truth, as it has apparently been here for decades.

When Jimmy Kimmel asked Hillary Clinton in a late-night TV interviewabout U.F.O.s, she quickly corrected his terminology.

“You know, there’s a new name,” Mrs. Clinton said in the March appearance. “It’s unexplained aerial phenomenon,” she said. “U.A.P. That’s the latest nomenclature.”

Known for her grasp of policy, Mrs. Clinton has spoken at length in her presidential campaign on topics ranging from Alzheimer’s research to military tensions in the South China Sea. But it is her unusual knowledge about extraterrestrials that has struck a small but committed cohort of voters.

Mrs. Clinton has vowed that barring any threats to national security, she would open up government files on the subject, a shift from President Obama, who typically dismisses the topic as a joke. Her position has elated U.F.O. enthusiasts, who have declared Mrs. Clinton the first “E.T. candidate.”

“Hillary has embraced this issue with an absolutely unprecedented level of interest in American politics,” said Joseph G. Buchman, who has spent decades calling for more transparency in government about extraterrestrials.

Mrs. Clinton, a cautious candidate who often bemoans being the subject of Republican conspiracy theories, has shown surprising ease plunging into the discussion of the possibility of extraterrestrial beings.

She has said in recent interviews that as president she would release information about Area 51, the remote Air Force base in Nevada believed by some to be a secret hub where the government stores classified information about aliens and U.F.O.s.

In a radio interview last month, she said, “I want to open the files as much as we can.” Asked if she believed in U.F.O.s, Mrs. Clinton said, “I don’t know. I want to see what the information shows.” But, she added, “There’s enough stories out there that I don’t think everybody is just sitting in their kitchen making them up.”

When asked about extraterrestrials in an interview with The Conway Daily Sun in New Hampshire late last year, Mrs. Clinton promised to “get to the bottom of it.”

“I think we may have been” visited already, she said in the interview. “We don’t know for sure.”

While Americans typically point to issues like the economy and terrorism as top priorities for the next president, a desire for answers about aliens has inspired a passionate bloc of voters, who make their voices heard on social media.

Stephen Bassett, who lobbies the government on extraterrestrial issues, views a Hillary Clinton presidency as a chance to finally get the United States to disclose all it knows about life beyond Earth. Since November 2014, Mr. Bassett’s organization has sent roughly 2.5 million Twitter messages to presidential candidates, elected officials and the news media urging a serious discussion of the issue. “That was a storm and now it’s like a steady drip,” Mr. Bassett said.

The movement viewed Mrs. Clinton’s decision to correct Mr. Kimmel’s use of the term U.F.O., which some view as loaded and more rooted in science fiction rather than in science, in particular, as a breakthrough because it “suggested she’d been briefed by someone and is not just being flippant,” Mr. Buchman said.

In fact, Mrs. Clinton had been briefed. She was prepped by her campaign chairman, John D. Podesta, who is not only a well-respected Washington hand, having served as a top adviser to Mr. Obama and President Bill Clinton, but is also a crusader for disclosure of government information on unexplained phenomena that could prove the existence of intelligent life outside Earth.

“The time to pull back the curtain on the topic is long overdue,” Mr. Podesta wrote in his foreword for the 2010 book “UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the Record” by Leslie Kean, an investigative journalist.

Mrs. Clinton’s position is not a political response to public sentiment — 63 percent of Americans do not believe in U.F.O.s, according to an Associated Press poll. But it reflects the decades of overlap between the rise to power of Bill and Hillary Clinton and popular culture’s obsession with the universe’s most mysterious questions.

In 1996, Mrs. Clinton was ridiculed after Bob Woodward reported, in his book “The Choice,” that as first lady she had held discussions with her deceased role models, Eleanor Roosevelt and Mohandas K. Gandhi. The offbeat tabloid Weekly World News dreamed up sensational headlines about Mrs. Clinton adopting an alien baby and having a “U.F.O. love nest.”

The Clinton presidency also coincided with the hit television series “The X-Files” and movies like “Independence Day,” which gave way to an era of fascination with the existence of aliens and the possibility of a government cover-up.

Mr. Podesta, an X-Files fanatic, ran a fan club for the show in the Clinton White House. “The X-Files fan club would like to invite you and Mulder to lunch at the White House. Don’t let the boss know,” he wrote in a 1998 email, referring to the show’s fictional F.B.I. agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, according to White House documents. In 1999, Mr. Podesta had an “X-Files”-themed 50th birthday party that the Clintons attended.

When Mr. Podesta left the White House last year, before joining Mrs. Clinton’s campaign, he posted on Twitter: “Finally, my biggest failure of 2014: Once again not securing the #disclosure of the U.F.O. files. #thetruthisstilloutthere.”

Mr. Podesta declined to comment for this article.

Mrs. Clinton, who speaks frequently about her childhood aspirations to be a NASA astronaut, has been sympathetic to Mr. Podesta’s efforts.

In 1995, when she was photographed visiting Laurance S. Rockefeller, the billionaire philanthropist, in Jackson Hole, Wyo., she had tucked under her arm a copy of “Are We Alone?: Philosophical Implications of the Discovery of Extraterrestrial Life” by Paul Davies.

Before that meeting, John H. Gibbons, the former director of the White House Office’s of Science and Technology Policy, had warned Mrs. Clinton about Mr. Rockefeller, who had spent years pressuring the government to release files relating to a 1947 crash at a ranch near Roswell, N.M., that had become the source of theories about a cover-up of an alien spaceship. He will “want to talk to you about his interest in extrasensory perception, paranormal phenomena and U.F.O.s,” Mr. Gibbons wrote.

The meeting enthralled conspiracy theorists and, in turn, inspired Hollywood writers.

“If you look at our mythology, there are elements of those kinds of meetings,” said Chris Carter, the creator and executive producer of “The X Files,’’ said in an interview. Mr. Carter, who is supporting Mrs. Clinton, added, “If I have to become a fund-raiser to get an invite to her opening up the files, I’ll do it.”

When Mrs. Clinton started to talk openly about U.F.O.s and government disclosure in her 2016 campaign, some activists traced the remarks back to the 1995 meeting with Mr. Rockefeller.

To this subset of Americans who say the government is covering up what it knows about aliens, and who are incredibly vocal on social media, Mrs. Clinton’s discussion of extraterrestrials signaled an important turn.

Other activists do not care as much about Mrs. Clinton’s vow to “open the files,” but do want prominent politicians to seriously acknowledge that humans may not be the only intelligent life in the universe. A major victory, some say, would be for the candidates to be asked about the topic in a presidential debate.

“It shouldn’t be a source of embarrassment to discuss it,” said Christopher Mellon, a former intelligence official at the Defense Department and the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“We should be humble in terms of recognizing the extreme limits of our own understanding of physics and the universe.”

Chunks of Earth's Mantle Are 'Peeling Off'

Scientists suspect that chunks from the bottom of the North American tectonic plate, which is the upper portion of the mantle, are peeling off and sinking. Replacing the resulting void is gooey material from the asthenosphere.

An odd phenomenon may explain why the Southeastern United States has experienced recent earthquakes, even though the region sits snugly in the middle of a tectonic plate and not at the edges, where all the ground-shaking action usually happens.

This seismicity — or relatively frequent earthquakes — may be the result of areas along the bottom of the North American tectonic plate peeling off, the researchers said. And this peeling motion is likely to continue, leading to more earthquakes in the future, like the 2011 magnitude-5.8 temblor that shook the nation's capital. To figure out the cause of these earthquakes, Berk Biryol, a seismologist at UNC Chapel Hill, and colleagues created 3D images of the uppermost part of Earth's mantle, which is just below the crust and comprises the bottom of a tectonic plate. These tectonic plates scoot around atop a layer of warm, viscous fluid called the asthenosphere.

The resulting X-ray images revealed that the plate's thickness in the southeast United States was uneven, with thick regions of dense, old rock combined with thinner areas composed of younger rocks that were also less dense.

Here's what the researchers think caused the wonkiness: Over time, as new material was added to the plate and parts of the plate were pulled apart, areas of higher density formed. Gravity would have pulled down the denser areas into the mantle, and at some point chunks would have broken off to sink into the gooey asthenosphere below, the researchers speculated.

At the same time, to fill the void left by the chunks peeling off from the bottom of the plate, the lighter material in the asthenosphere would have moved up to fill in the space. That buoyant material then would have cooled to become the thinner, younger section of the plate.

Where parts of the plate broke off or peeled, it became thinner and more prone to slip along fault lines, thus causing seismic activity. Biryol estimates that this activity has occurred for the past 65 million years or so.

"These events, usually, when they occur, they occur over long periods of time. The geological time scale is millions of years," Biryol said.

While the research looks only at what has occurred in the past, and not what seismic activity there may be in the future, Biryol said people living in the Southeast don't need earthquake preparedness kits just yet.

"I don't think things will be changing in the future, at least not in our lifetimes or our grandchildren's grandchildren's life," Biryol told Live Science. "Geological processes take place over long periods of time and nothing will change dramatically overnight."

Stunning Cloud Maps Tell the Story of Life on Earth

Clouds might seem like a nuisance if you’re headed on a Sunday afternoon picnic. But put aside your personal biases for a second and consider this: clouds can also tell the story of life on earth.

That story has become a lot clearer thanks to new maps created by scientists that document a global year in the clouds in more intimate detail than ever before. The maps — a cloud atlas if you will — provide a fine-grained view of how clouds move around in our atmosphere and represent an important link between climate and ecological research. They’re also pretty easy on the eyes.

It turns out, England is indeed cloudy for most of the year while most of the Bay Area’s clouds show up in February. Adam Wilson, a researcher at the University of Buffalo who helped create the cloud atlas, joked that you could use the maps to settle bets between friends on who lives in the cloudiest place.

But beyond bets and bragging rights, Wilson said the maps also provide a tool for tracking life around the planet. It turns out that the different biomes of the world from deserts to mountains to cloud forests all have their own special patterns of clouds, patterns that can be instrumental to studying the patterns of life itself.

"I wasn’t expecting the signal of the biomes would stand out so stark globally," Wilson said. "The Mediterranean, southwest Africa, Australia, they all pop out as a totally different. That’s not scientifically amazing but seeing it for the first time in a map was just striking."

There have been other efforts to get fine-grained cloud data in the past, but they’ve been marred by being limited to the tropics or getting false positives of clouds in snowy areas. Wilson and colleagues at Yale created a new analysis of satellite data captured at a 1-kilometer resolution by NASA everyday for the past 15 years to shine a light on the cloudy skies.

The new data analysis helps bridge an big divide between the climate and ecology communities. Ecologists track plants and animals across the planet at very fine scale, sometimes looking at a few square feet of soil, but climate science often provides data at a much larger spatial scale. With the new dataset, ecologists' understanding of the climate factors that affect life has vastly expanded.

And because it’s satellite data, the majority of the globe is covered including places that might be lacking on-the-ground measurements like rainforests and deserts in developing countries. Those areas are also home to a number of threatened and endangered species that will face growing pressure from climate change.

“Having the best possible environmental data will lead to best species model distribution approach,” he said, noting that that modeling could in turn help inform management decisions.

Species distribution modeling incorporates a whole host of environmental data from climate to the type of soil on the ground to get a better view of where individual plants and animals live. Wilson and his colleagues recently authored a study that plugged the new cloud data into a model for two species and found it helped improved their range estimates.

“One thing that’s been a disconnect between the climate community and the ecological community is this gap in spatial resolution,” he said. “Using remote sensing like we’ve done that’s capable of directly observing cloud cover is how we can get down to fine spatial resolution.”

Climate change is expected to put more stress on plants and animals. That means decisions on how to manage them, what areas to conserve and whether and where to relocate threatened species will take on ever greater importance. The new data could help answer some of those pressing questions.

Because the data is publicly available, users beyond the ecological realm can also play around with it. Wilson told Vox there could be a whole host of applications in the solar industry, which perhaps not surprisingly has a lot invested in the sunny side equation.

38 Years Since Mysterious Object Fell at the Border
An unidentified flying object fell to the ground at the border between Bolivia and Argentina. Eyewitnesses remember that moment. According to their stories, NASA was involved.

38 years after a metallic and incandescent object fell at the border between Bolivia and Argentina, there are enduring mysteries about what took place on May 6, 1978.

Elias Vacaflor, a witness to the events 38 years ago, says that NASA was on the scene and did not say a word about what was taken away after the UFO crash. According to the former congressman, letters were sent to the government - both to the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Relations, without replies having ever been received. They only agreed that it was a "subject that did not give rise to any concerns."

"I remember that the sky lit up in an unusual way due to the flying of an object resembling a cylinder flying for Northwest to Southeast," says Vacaflor. 

Residents of Mecoya, Mecoyita, Sidras, La Merced and other communities surrounding the crash area also witnessed the object and heard the subsequent explosion. Residents of Argentina, the neighboring country, also felt it, and the press offered information on the extraordinary event. The Clarín newspaper ran the headline "UFO Found on the Border Between Argentina and Bolivia."

Journalist Juan Antonio Abarzúa, who worked for El Tribuno de Saltaat the time, said that NASA helicopters arrived at the crash site.

Abarzúa, who formed part of that newspaper's visit to the scene, coincided with another team headed by physicist Orlando Bravo. He says that upon reaching the crash site, they found a scene of total destruction: a mountain - Cerro El Salle - had been destroyed, leaving a furrowed crater measuring 1,500 meters long, 800 meters wide and 50 meters deep (4920 ft. x 2600 ft. x 160 ft.).

Residents of Mecoya had already told them that the "gringos had taken away" the remains of whatever had fallen there.

Whether we visualize aliens as ray gun-toting invaders or peace-loving geniuses, we are fascinated by whether they exist and how they might finally contact us. It seems that scientists are no different.

From alien megastructures to space tractors, here are some of the more bizarre ways scientists have theorized that aliens are likely to contact humans.

10. The Megastructure

The mysterious monolith in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey turned out to be an alien machine designed to observe species and trigger evolutionary behaviors. Some scientists have argued that alien megastructures could be acting as a giant beacon to other civilizations.

In fact, scientists have been closely watching the star KIC 8462852, whose luminescence has mysteriously varied over the past few years. Some argue that the star is surrounded by an alien megastructure that occasionally blocks light coming from the star. Other, less exciting explanations are a swarm of exoplanets or a planet-forming disc. Scientists have searched for brief laser pulses from the distant star, but have yet to find any.

“The hypothesis of an alien megastructure around KIC 8462852 is rapidly crumbling apart,” said Douglas Vakoch, president and author of SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) International. He also stated, “We found no evidence of an advanced civilization beaming intentional laser signals toward Earth.”

9. Flashing A Billion Stars

Astrophysicist Ragbir Bhathal works with SETI to scan the skies for possible communications from extraterrestrial intelligence. Unlike most SETI facilities, which look for radio signals, Bhathal’s facility looks for laser pulses at his lab. The pulses sweep a nearby volume of space—within about 100 light-years—to find laser bursts that come in regular patterns. Scientists are now capable of detecting signals as faint as a single photon of light every few fractions of a second.

Lasers can, in principle, help transmit messages over extraordinary distances. While scientists have monitored a large number of stars looking for alien laser signals—like the facilities at Harvard and Princeton that scanned more than 10,000 Sun-like stars for several years—no evidence for any alien communication has been found.
