Running away from Einstein

Running away from Einstein

Einstein’s theory of gravity may have to be rewritten, after researchers at the University of St Andrews found a gigantic ring of galaxies darting away from us much faster than predicted.

This 10 million light year-wide ring made up of small galaxies is expanding rapidly like a mini Big Bang. The team believe our neighbouring galaxy, Andromeda, once flew past our own Galaxy at close range, creating a sling-shot of several small galaxies.

andromeda-galaxy-mainbody

Dr Hongsheng Zhao, Reader in the School of Physics and Astronomy and co-author of the paper, published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society by Oxford University Press, said: “If Einstein’s Gravity were correct, our Galaxy would never come close enough to Andromeda to scatter anything that fast.”

If true, the discovery would force a new understanding of gravity and about our cosmos, as such a galactic flyby only makes sense if gravity weakens more slowly as galaxies drift apart than mainstream thinking suggests.

Indranil Banik, the PhD student who led the study, said: “The ring-like distribution is very peculiar. These small galaxies are like a string of raindrops flung out from a spinning umbrella. I found there is barely a 1 in 640 chance for randomly distributed galaxies to line up in the observed way. I traced their origin to a dynamical event when the Universe was only half its present age.”

This tsunami-like wake in the sky was likely stirred up by a near-miss of the speeding Andromeda galaxy with our own Galaxy, the Milky Way. The two massive galaxies always orbited each other in a plane and would have scattered dwarf galaxies in their paths, perhaps explaining why the speeding dwarfs are in a plane also containing the Milky Way and Andromeda.

Mr Banik added: “In Einstein’s gravity paradigm, hypothetical dark matter is always invoked. Such a high speed requires 60 times the mass we see in the stars of the Milky Way and Andromeda. However, the friction between their huge halos of dark matter would result in them merging rather than flying 2.5 million light years apart, as they must have done.”

“Science progresses through challenges,” said Marcel Pawlowski, a Hubble Fellow at the University of California, Irvine, who prompted Mr Banik’s discovery. “Together with two other known planes of closer-in satellites, this gigantic ring forms a serious challenge to the standard paradigm.”

Dr Zhao is currently applying for a UK Science and Technology Facilities Council grant to follow up this work with detailed simulations of the origin of the ring and our neighbouring galaxies in alternative gravity; this funding body currently supports Mr Banik.

Het onderzoek is verschenen in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

‘Aliens use my body’: Sydney-based medium claims to communicate with extraterrestrials

‘Aliens use my body’: Sydney-based medium claims to communicate with extraterrestrials

Megan Palinnews.com.au@megan_palin

THE first time was "terrifying”.

Former nurse Kerrie-Ann Thornton, 37, says her first alleged encounter with an extraterrestrial took place when a dark figure suddenly appeared from the back seat of her car as she was driving on a Sydney highway.

“From then on it kept happening,” she tells news.com.au.

“It made my life hell until I actually learned to communicate with them and then it settled down. “And eight years later here we are.”

Ms Thornton now dedicates her life to serving ‘the greys’ — a “peaceful alien species” she claims to have a contract with. As a self professed psychic medium and telepathic communicator, she says she also has contact with other alleged “alien races” including the Draconians, Reptilians, Annunaki and Illuminati. Ms Thornton, from Harrington Park, is one of thousands of people around the world who believe in the existence of these so-called extraterrestrial creatures which she claims talk directly to her.

She says the purpose of the communications is so the aliens can pass on messages about living and dead people and animals to “help us”.

While some people might call Ms Thornton and her beliefs crazy, she insists she, and they, are not.

“If you want to call me crazy, or I’m just making things up, or an attention seeker, go right ahead,” Ms Thornton says.

“It’s not my business.

“My job and my business is to deliver messages for the ET’s ... it’s up to you what you do with those messages.”

About 12 people, men and women, pay a $20 entry fee and file into the small function room to watch Ms Thornton become possessed by aliens and deliver messages to them on a sunny Sunday afternoon in March.

They meet in an old country-style motel, tucked behind a used car sales business in Campbelltown, on the outskirts of western Sydney.

“You are invited to ask questions about anything, the ET’s themselves, life, the universe, etc and the ET’s will answer all questions,” a pamphlet advertising the seminar reads.

No “security sensitive” questions are allowed. It’s in the best interests of the human race, Ms Thornton says.

It’s the first time Ms Thornton has attempted to lend her mind, body and soul to the aliens she claims to have been communicating with telepathically and in person for almost a decade. She says the aliens will today possess her to deliver important messages to earthlings.

She says she has been preparing her body “mentally, spiritually and physically” for this moment for seven years.

She warns that “everyone will be running for the door” in the second half of her seminar when she becomes possessed or if the aliens decide to appear in the room.

“I’m told they’re going to put on a big show,” she tells news.com.au.

“They’re calling it ‘the Awakening’. They’re going to make a statement.

“I won’t remember the second half after it’s happened.”

Guests are told there is nothing to fear and advised not to be alarmed if they “feel something touch (their) shoulder” or if the medium starts levitating.

“There are 30 plus ET’s in this room right now ... invisible,” Ms Thornton says.

“They’re invisible.”

John Farnham’s ‘You’re the Voice’ starts playing on a small radio at the front of the room. Ms Thornton looks at guests in the front row and tells them: “not my choice”.

“You ready guys?’ she asks the invisible ET’s.

MESSAGES FROM “INVISIBLE ETs”

Ms Thornton starts the seminar by giving audience members individual readings she says come directly from the other worldly entities.

She tells one audience member that her dead grey cat didn’t like the Whiskers meat she fed it and would have preferred the Kitekat brand.

Another woman is asked who “the young child who fell out of a tree and broke their arm” was. She says she has no idea who the psychic is talking about.

Ms Thornton tells another woman that one of the aliens recommends she buys some lotto tickets.

“I had a dream about that last night,” the woman says.

“I will definitely buy some now.”

The guests all appear to share Ms Thornton’s beliefs and that she’s psychic and cling onto every words she says.

She tells a young woman in the audience she was a medieval princess in a past life who now has healing abilities.

“I can feel it when she hugs me as it’s warm,” the girl’s friend tells the group.

Another guest is asked if she has an older brother.

“Yes,” the guest says.

Ms Thornton: “When he was your age was there a car accident not him but could be close friend or family.

“The person driving the other car wants to say he’s really sorry and wants to say it was his fault and please accept his apology.

“He didn’t mean to cause harm was young and dumb.”

The woman she's addressing says this is the first she’s ever heard about her brother being involved in a car accident.

“Who likes fish? Ms Thornton asks the crowd.

No one answers.

Ms Thornton: “Gold fish?”

Silence.

Ms Thornton: “Tropical fish?”

One woman raises her hand: “My brother,” she says.

Ms Thornton: “Tell him to keep a check on thermometer as it’s faulty and you’ll wake up with fried fish.”

She then turns her attention to another young woman in the audience.

Ms Thornton: “You’re having internet trouble.”

Guest: “No.”

Ms Thornton: “OK it might be coming. Just watch your internet server, (the provider is) going through issues.”

After a short break, tea and biscuits, the second half of the seminar gets underway. This is where things are expected to get especially interesting as Ms Thornton attempts to allow aliens to take over her body. It’s the moment guests were warned they might run for the door. She takes a swig of water and shakes her hands like an athlete preparing to compete. She stares intently at the ground, awaiting for something phenomenal to take hold. Nothing happens. So she fills the time instead by relaying second-hand messages from the alleged aliens.

Psychic medium and telepathic communicator Kerrie-Ann Thornton stares intently at the ground as she attempts to become possessed by aliens she says she’s in contact with.

TRUMP, KATE & WILL, AND THE QUEEN

Talk turns to celebrities, royals and politicians and which of them are supposedly aliens or hybrids.

“Is Queen Elizabeth a clone?” one guest asks.

Ms Thornton: “No, she’s not.”

But the same can’t be said for Kate Middleton, according to Ms Thornton.

“She is a draconian hybrid, half woman, half, they’re 10ft tall T-Rex type thing,” she says.

“She’s in the right place to seize power.

“They’ve designed her specifically to be in that position.”

Ms Thornton says the suggestion that the “Queen and Trump are shape shifters is rubbish”.

“They’re not aliens,” she says.

“Trump has no interest in Americans.

“His only interest is gaining technology, gaining power, gaining money and wanting to take over the world, and this is driven by his ties to Putin and the Illuminati.”

A member of the audience raises his hand.

“What is Pauline Hanson?” he asks.

Ms Thornton: “A few people have said she’s an alien but she is not. She is someone with morals and integrity.”

‘WHY I WAS CHOSEN’

Ms Thornton tells news.com.au she sees the aliens through her “third eye and physical eyes”.

She describes the “typical grey” as being about seven foot tall with “large heads, black eyes, small nose and mouth, skinny necks, long slender bodies and very muscular”.

Ms Thornton also claims to have twice been impregnated by aliens on their “space buses”. She says she miscarried several months into each pregnancy.

She believes she was given the ability to communicate with aliens because of her “rare DNA”.

“It’s something not many people have,” she says.

“And another possibility is that I don’t care what people think. I will do my job regardless of what people think of me.”

Ms Thornton’s mother, who also attends the seminar, supports her claims.

“Her DNA is special,” her mother tells inquisitive guests.

‘THE ALIENS ARE COMING’

As the three and a half-hour session comes to a close it becomes apparent Ms Thornton’s attempt to become possessed by aliens has not worked. Not today. Her seven years of training for the moment has apparently all been in vain.

“I think they have not done that because they have not got their message across,” she tells news.com.au.

“People have understood why they’re here and their messages and I believe that they would have done a possession if people did not believe, if they were challenging what they said.”

News.com.au reminds Ms Thornton that many sceptics will read this story and not believe her claims.

But according to Ms Thornton, that doesn’t matter because all will be revealed later this year.

“They will be showing themselves in the next couple of weeks and months,” she says.

“To everybody. To the world.

“They’re not waiting for the government to disclose their existence they’re going to do it themselves.”

She says the aliens “want people to know when they come they’re not here to harm anyone”.

“They believe that the earth is dying and that we have to go somewhere.”

So what are they waiting for?

“That’s a good question and I have asked them repeatedly that during the afternoon,” Ms Thornton says.

“They just didn’t want to.”

Prescott Lights: UFOs over the First Territorial Capital

Prescott Lights: UFOs over the First Territorial Capital

Phoenix Lights, 1997.

Public domain

Phoenix Lights, 1997.

Al Bates

On the evening of March 13, 1997, widely scattered reports came in from across Arizona—including Prescott, Prescott Valley and Dewey-Humboldt—of mysterious lights crossing the sky. This phenomenon, now popularly called “The Phoenix Lights,” is still a topic of controversy.

Official explanations—including military flares and Air Force night exercises—leave too many questions for the many who prefer to classify the sightings as Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs). And there were numerous eyewitness accounts that tracked the lights from the Prescott Basin rapidly travelling south toward Phoenix and beyond to Tucson. One eyewitness report from the Phoenix area was made by Arizona’s then-Governor Fife Symington.

But this was not the Prescott area’s only experience with unexplained aerial phenomena. Prescott’s Granite Mountain had a previous brush with another mysterious event on a warm evening over a century earlier. That event was recorded by Daniel Ellis Conner, who was noteworthy as a member of the famed Walker Party and as an early member of the Territorial Legislature and member of the surveying team that laid out the Prescott town site.

Connor’s tale (lightly edited for punctuation) follows:

“On a warm night in 1865, whilst in company of three or four others, in the town of Prescott at or about midnight, my attention was called by someone present, to an unusual appearance northwest toward Granite Mountain . . . It was an exceedingly large transient, luminous body and it was slowly and steadily moving toward the west. It was light and brilliant and seemed to have been suspended in the atmosphere at an equal height of Granite Mountain, the summit of which the meteoric phenomenon appeared to be slowly approaching.

“Like a full moon suspended in the heavens amongst the passing clouds, it gave us ample time to observe its steady course. As it appeared to approach the summit of this mountain eight miles distant, it began to color into an increasing shade of pink, thence to a deep burning passionate red and then burst into a thousand fragments like a bomb-shell against the summit of the mountain and went out. Presently there came upon the night air the deep tone of an explosion, like the low tone of a distant cannon once exploded and then silent . . .

photo

Courtesy Sharlot Hall Museum

Daniel E. Conner, c.1870s. Call number PO-1961P

“I should have thought that we might have been mistaken as to distance in the night, as it was, had not other parties four miles below Prescott and four miles nearer, described it just as we saw and heard it. Its reality thus became the strangest part of it. It may have arisen from the bed of the lake, which has been described previously [by Conner] as lying at the eastern foot of Granite Mountain and subsequently drained. This single instance of any meteoric discovery in Arizona was the only one I ever saw of or heard of in that country and the largest I ever heard of existing in any country.”

Born in Kentucky and trained as a civil engineer at Hanover College, Indiana, before seeking his fortune in the western mine fields, Conner probably rates well as a reliable observer of natural phenomena, although he was lacking in knowledge of extensive impacts on the Earth from outer space such as Arizona’s then-unknown Meteor Crater.

What did Conner and others see that night? It certainly was not “military flares” or Air Force exercises. And this was a long time before UFOs and Extraterrestrials came into the popular lexicon. If the explosion he observed was a meteorite, there may be traces left behind for some adventurous soul to find near Granite Mountain. Until then Conner’s sighting will remain an intriguing but unexplained episode from Arizona’s territorial past.

Conner’s account of the Granite Mountain sighting is contained in his posthumously published book called Joseph Reddeford [sic] Walker and the Arizona Adventure.

Mississauga News

Look to the skies in Mississauga and Brampton and who knows what you will see — it might even be a UFO.

According to the recently released 2016 Canadian UFO Survey, which is an annual report compiled by the Canadian organization Ufology Research, there were 13 unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings in Mississauga last year and three in Brampton.

There are reports that in Brampton on April 23 around 9 p.m. there was a "V-shaped light moving around slightly in the same area changing colours" while in Mississauga near Pearson International Airport on Nov. 4 around 5:22 a.m. there was a report of "two bright lights, one red, one white, seeming to approach (and) slow almost to a stop (before) then suddenly departing."

Across the country, there were 1,131 UFO sightings in 2016. That's a drop from the 1,267 reported the previous year.

Nine of the Mississauga sightings were said to have had insufficient information to make a determination on what they were, according to the survey, while three were listed as having possible or probable explanations while one was categorized as unexplained.

The unexplained incident happened Nov. 16 around 6:10 p.m. and involved a "flat object with lights at each end pulsating and reversing direction, flying at high speed."

In Brampton, two were said to have possible or probable explanations and the other was deemed insufficient.

Across the country, 21 per cent of last year's reports were considered to have probable explanations while 74 per cent were insufficient, which was a big reversal from the previous year's report where 66 per cent were probable and 20 per cent considered insufficient. The report notes that's because of a "more rigorous evaluation process" this year.

About four per cent were considered unexplained, which the report says is the lowest in its 28 years, but does note that classification doesn't imply alien visitation.

"Each case may still have an explanation following further investigation. And, of those that remain unexplained, they may (stay) unexplained but still are not incontrovertible proof of extraterrestrial intervention or some mysterious natural phenomenon," reads the report.

Only 1.5 per cent were categorized as explained, the lowest amount since 1992.

In 2015, there were nine UFO sightings in Mississauga and 11 in Brampton.

The report found the majority of sightings came in June, July and August (about 37.7 per cent) and most were reported as lights in the sky (54.9 per cent). In terms of cities, Montreal reported the most (73) while Vancouver (70) and Toronto (65) were a close second and third.

Some of the shapes seen in the reports were triangle, ball, cigar, fireball and the classic flying saucer (which was reported 48 times or about five per cent of the total sightings).

The annual survey compiles UFO sightings across Canada that are reported to a number of sources, including the Mutual UFO Network.

Some of the more unusual highlights of the report include a sighting from Cornwall, Prince Edward Island on Jan. 10 where a "thin, six-foot-tall long-fingered white alien in a black suit appeared in (a) bedroom. The witness spoke to the alien, which then left by walking through a wall."

Another from Tecumseh, Ontario on Jan. 12 stated that the witness "reported that an alien entity was responsible for stealing his sunglasses, belt and silver possessions. Later, the witness produced a photograph in which he thought a 'rip in space and time' could be seen."

Where UFOs Are Scarce

Where UFOs Are Scarce

Columnist Cheryl Costa discusses where UFO sightings are few and far between

This has been a week to remember. This past week, after about 16 months of research, compiling and writing, our efforts culminated in the publishing of our UFO Sightings Desk Reference: United States of America 2001-2015.

Since the publication went live last weekend, social media and news media in the West Coast went wild with the news that California is the No. 1 state for UFO sightings. Of course, near and dear to our hearts, New York state is No. 6.

What also has happened has been piles of requests for information about UFO sighting totals for specific counties in specific states. People want to know where their hometown county ranked with 3,027 other counties in the United States. While we didn’t publish that ranking in our book, we did include the individual county total.

Of course, what has been interesting is how people seem to want bragging rights that their home county has more UFO sightings than others. The common theme in this scenario is everybody wanting to be in a county with high numbers of UFO sightings. Who could blame them?

As a UFO researcher and statistical investigator, to me the topic of high concentrations of UFO sighting reports is indeed very important. You’d be amazed at where people assume all the sightings are. Most people are way off.

But as investigators, we looked not only looked at the high concentration areas but also where the UFOs tend to not be. You might ask: What’s the rock bottom county with the least sightings? Actually, there are 300 of the 3,027 counties in the United States.  This means 300 counties in USA reported only one UFO sighting each between 2001-2015.

These one-sighting counties encompass 42 of 50 states. Thirteen states had more than 10 of these one-hit wonders and they rank like this: Texas: 32; New England: 22; Kansas: 18; Virginia: 15; Georgia: 14; San Diego: 14; Minnesota: 12; Missouri: 12; North Dakota: 11; Oklahoma: 11; Iowa: 10; Illinois: 10; Kentucky: 10.

We think it is telling where these sighting aren’t occurring. Deep down we suspect that the reasons are very different than the high-density areas.

Alien sightings REVEALED in shock report on UFO hotspot

Alien sightings REVEALED in shock report on UFO hotspot

A REVEALING report has lifted the lid on unexplained sightings last year in UFO hotspot Canada.

SpaceX rocket captures THREE UFOs 'in formation'

Manitoba-based Ufology Research, which has conducted a Canadian UFO Survey since 1989, said there had been 1,131 sightings in 2016.

There are some incredible alien sightings described in the report – from a naughty thief to another who walks through a wall.

Ontario had the most sightings at 26.3% while British Columbia had 17.2%.

“Some of these cases are extremely close indeed”

Canadian UFO Survey 2016

Quebec had the most UFO reports in 2016 at 38.5%.

The report says: “This is because Quebec currently has several civilian UFO groups, all with active public awareness campaigns and thus receiving substantial media attention.”

And it says the high number of sightings is significant, adding: "This data clearly contradicts comments by those who would assert that UFOs are a ‘passing fad’ or that UFO sightings are decreasing in number."

It’s the alien sightings that make the most interesting reading.

On January 10 in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island, a man reported that "a thin, six-foot-tall, long-fingered, white alien in a black suit" appeared in his bedroom.

He spoke to the alien which left by walking through a wall.

Meanwhile in Quebec, on the same night, a person was transported in a flash of white light to a bathtub.

There he encountered "three green, big-eyed humanoid creatures who communicated with him telepathically”.

He claims he then suddenly found himself at home four hours later with scratches on his body and his eye colour had changed.

Another cheeky alien two days later was reported to be responsible for “stealing a man’s sunglasses, belt and silver possessions”.

And later he claimed a photo showed a rip in time and space.

The report ends by saying: "Close encounter cases are definitely in the minority, but some of these cases are extremely close indeed."

UFO experts believe live feed from SpaceX Satellite launch mysteriously cut 'due to mystery objects'

It is not the first time a live feed has been dropped and conspiracy theorist believe it was deliberate to allow the UFOs to get off the screen

BY KELLY-ANN MILLS

UFO experts have revealed at least three white objects were spotted on a live feed of a rocket launch - seconds before it was pulled mysteriously from TV screens.

The UFOs were seen by at least 20 observers who have now shared their concerns online.

Cameras were filming at the launch of SpaceX Satellite at Cape Canaveral in Florida.

But it seems the live feed of the launch was cut at the exact time UFOs were seen on the screen, leading some to think the timing of the change of screen to that of a map was deliberate.

The clip was brought to the attention of SecureTeam10 , a group of UFO experts, who investigate the footage and share their findings online.

SpaceX Satellite launch live feed suddenly CUT over ‘mysterious triangle-shaped UFO'

THE live feed of the launch of the SpaceX Satellite was cut deliberately to avoid UFOs being caught on screen, so alien experts have claimed.

Cameras were filming the launch of the SpaceX rocket at Cape Canaveral in Florida, USA but the live feed of event was mysteriously pulled after at least three white objects were spotted, according to keen-eyed watchers who claim it was pulled deliberately.

The launch was successful but alien enthusiasts spotted something odd on the on-board cameras.

The video shows a part of the rocket with a backdrop of complete darkness.

Suddenly, in the top right of the shot appear four bright lights – moving at the same speed in similar positions.

After just a few seconds of showing the orbs, the feed is switched to an animated tracker of the rocket.

The UFO team known as SecureTeam10 investigated the footage after several people sent in the film and asked them to examine the film.

The SpaceX satellite launch was a success

“You can clearly see we have a formation of three reflective objects – making up this triangular shape.”

The launch of the commercial satellite took place last Thursday (March 30) at the Kennedy Space Centre at 6.27pm local time.

Earlier this year Nasa’s live feed of the International Space Station was mysteriously cut after, as some claimed, “six large UFOs” flew past.

The launch of the satellite was a historic moment as it was the first successful launch of reusable booster rockets.

Historically rockets have fallen into the ocean after use, resulting in the loss of a machine costing tens to hundreds of millions of dollars to build.

Date of sighting: March 29, 2017
Location of sighting:  Carlow, Ireland
News source:
This UFO was seen last week in Ireland and the shape of the disk is beautiful. As you see from the enlarged screenshot above, this is no cloud. This is a metallic disk, which has more similarities to tens of thousands of UFO reports more than it has to any cloud.

Coincidence...I think not, because think about the old Irish stories about little green men...they call leprechauns  Were they leprechauns or were they really just aliens? You have to tie together the patters, not just in UFO reports, but historic events, folklore and cultural traditions.
Scott C. Waring
News states:
IT was a case for Mulder and Scully, or maybe just for a weatherman last Saturday, as a UFO-like cloud hung ominously over Carlow. The mysterious, striking-looking cloud caused widespread panic among locals, although panic can come in different forms – in this case, mild curiosity and a Facebook post. Greg MacLennan and his wife from Carlow town were out for a drive on Saturday evening when they spotted the large, dark, stationery cloud near Carlow Train Station. “It was very odd,” said Greg. “All the other clouds were very high and light like a cirrus type of cloud. This was totally one of its own. Me and my wife were both thinking it’s very odd. It was just sticking out like an eyesore, if you know what I mean. We were saying that ‘it looks like a UFO, doesn’t it’, or something was hiding inside of it, like camouflage! ‘UFO clouds’ are another name that’s given for this particular cloud.” Greg considers himself open-minded but, disappointingy for The Nationalist, did not believe these were UFOs. Although, he could well be in denial. A sober, rational assessment would indicate that it was a lenticular type of cloud, according to Greg. “They usually form over mountains. It has to do with the warm air that moves up from the base of the mountain. Sometimes they form when there is low pressure on the way.” However, sober assessments are no fun and The Nationalist prefers the idea of camouflaged UFOs watching us do a shop at Aldi.

Massive Shadow Passing The ISS In NASA Video

Massive Shadow Passing The ISS In NASA Video

nasa-ufos

Conspiracy theorists have claimed that an alien mothership was recorded on video flying past NASA’s International Space Station.

The footage shows a black nothingness and part of the space station. Moments later, the dark part of the scene starts to get lighter for no apparent reason, except for a circular object flying past the station.

As the shadow is lifted, the dark outlook continues to get lighter and lighter.

In a caption of a YouTube video that made the rounds online, the uploader says that he is not certain whether the mysterious massive thing is a mothership or some kind of an alien spacecraft. However, he seems to be so sure that it does not look something usual.

The video was posted to the video-sharing site on Saturday, March 19. The uploader notes the shadow is coming across the picture as the UFO moves across.

Some viewers believe the video shows evidence of alien life, saying that the UFO is an ET mothership. Others are skeptical, suggesting that the so-called mothership is just the filter in the camera moving out of the screen. There are also who think that the anomaly is simply the sun’s light coming around.

One viewer believes a large unknown object is completely obscuring the background.

Red Planet versus Dead Planet: Scientists Debate Next Destination for Astronauts in Space

Red Planet versus Dead Planet: Scientists Debate Next Destination for Astronauts in Space
Where in the solar system will humans go next? NASA and private industry are mulling whether astronauts should first go back to the moon—or instead voyage directly to Mars. A near-Earth asteroid could be a third possible destination for near-future human missions.
Credit: NASA

THE WOODLANDS, Texas—Should the U.S. send humans back to the moon in a 21st-century reboot of the cold war–era Apollo program … or should the nation go full-throttle and for the gusto, sending crews to all the way to Mars, where none have gone before? U.S. scientists and policy makers have grappled ad nauseam with America's next great otherworldly destination for decades, without making much meaningful progress. Now that it is approaching a half-century since an American — or anyone at all, for that matter — last left low Earth orbit, the debate seems lost in space.

Soon that shall change, many advocates of human spaceflight believe, through a hybrid of new initiatives by Pres. Donald Trump's administration as well as commercial efforts led by private industry. The Trump White House's vision for U.S. astronauts remains at present a foggy TBD, but there are plans afoot to relaunch a National Space Council. Helmed by Vice Pres. Mike Pence, the council would set a new space agenda not only for NASA but also for U.S. rocket companies, big and small, such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Orbital ATK.

In the meantime, speculation about the U.S.'s future in space has reached its highest point in recent memory, as made clear here last week by the proceedings of the 48th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (LPSC). At the meeting, scientists unleashed the latest findings regarding Earth's moon, Mars, asteroids, comets and myriad other cosmic objects of interest, often with a hopeful eye toward rekindling human voyages to other worlds. Although robotic probes are the persistent currency of discovery in today's planetary science, many researchers increasingly see astronauts as crucial agents of exploration in the not-too-distant future.

"Planetary science will completely change once we get crew beyond low Earth orbit," says David Kring, a senior staff scientist at the Lunar and Planetary Institute. "The best way to explore the moon is by the well-trained astronaut, hands down. Apollo demonstrated that wonderfully."

Kring says he is eager to see the first NASA exploration missions using the agency's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, which is currently being developed along with a crewed Orion spacecraft. At the Trump administration's insistence, NASA is assessing the prospect of flying a two-person crew around the moon in mid-2019 — years ahead of schedule for the delay-plagued SLS and Orion programs. "I'm even more anxious to see crews deploy robotic assets to the lunar surface and eventually land there themselves," Kring adds. "We need to get back on the surface. We need to collect samples. And we need to bring them back to Earth."

The moon is a bonanza for scientists, Kring says, because it offers crucial insights for understanding the origins and evolution of Earth and other planets: how they formed from the accretion and differentiation of smaller bodies; how they were bombarded by impacts early in their histories; and even how some of them migrated in their orbits around the sun. "The best place to answer those questions is on the moon," he explains, given that its airless surface contains the scarcely altered imprints of 4.5 billion years of solar system history.

You can't be a Martian without being a lunatic, suggests Clive Neal, a lunar scientist at the University of Notre Dame.

Here on Earth destructive geologic processes cloud our view of those long-gone formative eons, Kring says. Even on modern-day Mars, a planet far more inert than Earth, many of the answers we might seek to our solar system's deepest mysteries have been erased by the slow workings of geology.

Kring also sees the moon as a gateway to Mars. "We have to have legitimate, meaningful milestones on our way to Mars," he explains. "We all want to get humans on Mars. The question is how do you get there? I don't think we're going to develop the right workforce with the capabilities to magically get to Mars by 2035 or 2045. We need to develop the techniques and the workforce for that leap, and that can happen in [lunar orbit] and on the moon."

According to Clive Neal, a lunar scientist at the University of Notre Dame, any moon-versus-Mars argument is a nonstarter. "It's not either-or," he says, because the moon can enable Mars by tapping lunar resources to support a sustainable human expansion deeper into the solar system.

"You can't be a Martian without being a lunatic," Neal says. "If you want to do 'flags and footprints,' go to Mars now. But you'll never go back, because that's Apollo — a fantastic program, but it was not sustainable."

To Neal, Earth's satellite is first and foremost a world rich in resources that can and should be used. For example, he pointed to sun-shy craters at the lunar poles, where near-constant darkness has trapped and preserved water ice ripe for conversion into oxygen, water and rocket propellant. "We have to do some basic geologic prospecting," he says. "And if the moon's resources are shown to be substantial, "you then bring the Moon into our economic sphere of influence. I view the moon as enabling, and that comes through its resources."

Speaking at a breakout session prior to the formal start of the LPSC gathering last week, Apollo 17 moon walker and geologist Jack Schmitt reflected on the value of human exploration of the moon. It had been nearly 45 years since Schmitt bunny-hopped his way across the low-gravity lunar landscape in December 1972 during the final Apollo mission; half of Apollo’s 12 moon walkers have now died. With the passing of his Apollo 17 crewmate, Gene Cernan, earlier this year, Schmitt spoke as the last living person from that mission to have set foot on the moon.

Schmitt's speech raised issues familiar to many in the audience. For decades, he has championed the potential economics of lunar mining for helium 3, an isotope that could be crucial for certain forms of nuclear fusion. The lunar surface has soaked up vast quantities of helium 3 from billions of years of bombardment by the solar wind, Schmitt explained, and drawing on that resource is how a lunar settlement could support itself. Provided, that is, that scientists back on Earth can first figure out how to make nuclear fusion an economically viable power source — a goal that has eluded them for decades.

Schmitt's faith in a lunar future for humankind is unwavering. "A settlement on the Moon based on helium 3 export to Earth for fusion power makes a lot of sense to me. It starts not only to make us a two-planet species but enables, I think, Mars exploration in many different ways," he noted.

Credit: Barbara David

For example, he said, helium 3 mining would produce by-products including water, hydrogen, carbon and nitrogen. These useful substances exist in only the most minuscule traces in lunar soil — but such an enormous amount of surface material would have to be processed to harvest helium 3 that they would accumulate in significant amounts. Water sourced from the low-gravity moon, Schmitt explained, could be utilized as a protective, radiation-thwarting cocoon, built into the superstructures of Mars-bound crewed spacecraft. "A few inches of water around a spacecraft weights an awful lot and it is expensive bringing it from Earth. You can produce water anywhere on the moon," he said.

Others have little time for the moon and the decades that would be required to develop infrastructure there. Their eyes are instead on the bigger prize: Mars. Elon Musk, SpaceX's CEO and chief rocketeer, is the foremost example of the "Mars first" contingent. And according to SpaceX engineer Paul Wooster, Red Planet planning by Musk's private company is steadily progressing. "The vision for SpaceX, long-term, is making it possible for large numbers of people to go to Mars," he says.

SpaceX plans to build a mega-rocket and a giant interplanetary crew transporter to populate Martian outposts and eventually a full-size city, Wooster reports. But before the company can achieve those wild goals it must first firm up its capability to send something — anything at all — to Mars. That would come via interplanetary flights of the firm's Red Dragon spacecraft — a derivative of the SpaceX Dragon capsule that has already hauled cargo to the International Space Station and in due course will take astronauts there. Wooster says SpaceX is intent on rapidly building up surface infrastructure on Mars, hopefully beginning by the mid-2020s. "We obviously have a lot of work ahead of us," he says.

A crucial component of the SpaceX plan for Mars has been demonstrated several times here on Earth. The company has repeatedly landed its Falcon 9 rocket's first stage at sea on a drone ship, and on land at Florida's Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Because the first stage can then be repeatedly reused rather than flown once and discarded, an economy of scale could develop that greatly reduces the cost of access to space, and thus the price tag of a bank-busting plan to colonize Mars. For SpaceX's ambitious plans to work, the company will have to develop and demonstrate reusability on its next generation of rockets poised to debut after Falcon 9.

Wooster says an unpiloted SpaceX Red Dragon flight to Mars, able to deliver roughly one ton of useful payload, is being considered for 2020. Other Red Dragons could follow every two years or so, when Mars and Earth are in favorable alignments that minimize the fuel needed for an interplanetary crossing.

SpaceX Red Dragon nears autopilot touchdown on Mars. The private firm has the Red Planet in its sights to establish an outpost, and eventually a city, on that distant world.

Credit: SpaceX

"First and foremost is to learn how to land large payloads on Mars," Wooster says. In preparation for planting an outpost on that far-off world, experiments onboard Red Dragon are set to test on-the-spot propellant production. That can be done, he says, by processing water from Mars' surface and with gases extracted from the carbon dioxide–rich atmosphere. In fact, NASA is also set to try out something similar — a Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE) on the space agency's Mars 2020 rover.

SpaceX has been quietly working with NASA and non-NASA landing site specialists to plot locales for plopping down its spacecraft. Site selection is driven by the quantity of water the firm is looking for — thousands of tons, Wooster explains. One such spot "is looking quite promising," he says: Arcadia Planitia, a smooth plain on Mars that appears to have large quantities of ice near the surface.

Of course, where there is ice there may well be subsurface pockets of liquid water — and potentially life, raising the possibility that SpaceX could violate "planetary protection" protocols by landing in such regions. Wooster says SpaceX is working with NASA's Office of Planetary Protection to properly address such concerns. For now, he reiterates that the company is most definitely open for business and eager to entice researchers to make use of Red Dragon for toting their experiments. "SpaceX is a transportation company," Wooster explains. "We're very happy to deliver payloads to Mars for various people," he adds, an offer that has also piqued NASA's interest in contracting with the company to launch a potential science experiment in 2020. "We want to turn this into a steady cadence where we are sending [Red] Dragons to Mars based on every opportunity as we go forward, and eventually shifting over to our large Mars vehicle to deliver very large payloads," he concludes.

Be it back to the moon or first footfalls on Mars, the trajectory taken by the U.S. appears to have the research community in ready-and-waiting mode. Whether it comes via government-backed public-private partnerships, international collaboration or go-it-alone endeavors by the only nation to have landed astronauts on the moon, there is plenty of extraterrestrial science that can — and will — be done, potentially even by humans.

Canadians Spotted Over 1,000 UFOs Last Year

Canadians Spotted Over 1,000 UFOs Last Year

...and one Sasquatch.

Did you guys know that there is a group that tracks yearly UFO statistics in Canada?

Because there is and they're goddamn glorious.

The main crew tracking the data is the Winnipeg-based Ufology ResearchCentre who just released their 2016 findings of UFO sightings in the great white north. The data—which is totally true because, you know, it's data—is produced by the centre working in cooperation with investigators and researchers all across the country. The group releases the information yearly "in an attempt to promote the dissemination of information across the field of ufology. "

So, with that in mind, let's go through these numbers, why don't we?

To start, since 1989 the crew has reported 18,038 Canadian UFO sightings or encounters. In total, there were 1,131 UFO reports officially filed in Canada—"the fifth year in a row above 1,000 cases," excitedly reads the study. The only year that had more sightings was 2015.

"This data clearly contradicts comments by those who would assert that UFOs are a 'passing fad' or that UFO sightings are decreasing in number," reads the study.

Fuck yeah, the truth is out there, fam.

Like all good studies, this one is chock full of weird little statistics and breaks down the sightings by province. Turns out, Quebecers see the most little grey men, followed by Ontario, BC, and Alberta and that summer is the best time to see the extraterrestrials. Montreal had the highest amount of any sightings in a major city with 73—Vancouver took a close second with 70.

Sadly, though, most of these sightings had "insufficient evidence" and "the percentage of UFO cases considered unexplained in 2016 has dropped to four percent, the lowest in 28 years of study," which is a total bummer. The crew writes this off as the "result of more careful scrutiny of raw report information available."

The best part comes at the tail end of the study where they keep the "unusual" reports. In this segment, you can find the short tale of a man who "reported that an alien entity was responsible for stealing his sunglasses, belt and silver possessions."

Further into the study, you can read about a person in Cornwall, PEI who had a close encounter with "a thin, six-foot-tall, long-fingered, white alien in a black suit" that appeared in his bedroom. The person then had a chat with the alien before it took its leave by walking through a wall. Meanwhile in Quebec, on the same night, a person was transported in a flash of white light to a bathtub. Here he encountered "three green, big-eyed humanoid creatures who communicated with him telepathically."

Another is straight-up elegant in its simplicity:

"A report was received which read simply, 'They contacted me!'"

The study ends with a man in northern Quebec who spotted himself a sasquatch—which I don't believe counts as an alien but, frankly, who cares, because sasquatches are awesome. Not all encounters were as wonderful as these, some are kinda, well, boring.

In total, close encounters were less than one percent, the majority of sightings (over 50 percent) were just simple lights in the sky. The study also breaks down the sightings that weren't simple lights and, oddly enough, the "flying saucer" classification only was reported five percent of times, tying it with whatever "fireball" is.

So, kiddos, keep your eyes on the sky and the curiosity in your heart strong because if you're lucky, very lucky, maybe one day you'll end up on this list.

At the very least you might see a sasquatch, which apparently counts.

A UFO Sighting Expert Shows Us His Most Convincing Reports

A UFO Sighting Expert Shows Us His Most Convincing Reports

Sightings from former astronauts, airline pilots, and police officers top his list.

When an alien aircraft hovers over your house, you'll want to talk to someone about it.

For the past 43 years, that's been one of the main functions of the National UFO Reporting Center. It's served as a hotline for skeptics and believers: If you look up and see something strange, they'll meticulously take your story.

Peter Davenport has served as the center's director since 1994, managing sighting reports through the website and the 24-hour hotline, and posting updates to the charmingly low-tech NUFORC database. People who report UFOs "quest to speak with someone who will believe what they have to say," he said.

He told me, over a series of emails, what NUFORC does and why it does it. Serving as a listening ear is one half of the job. Presenting those stories as publicly-available reports is the other. People should have access to information about extraterrestrial activity, "without having to rely on a government which is lying to all of us about the UFO phenomenon."

Davenport estimates out of the tens of thousands of people who witness a true Unidentified Flying Object in their lifetimes, very few will take the time to report it. Right now, they receive between 10-20 written reports in a day through the website. But those sightings are going up.

Most are "serious-minded attempts to describe some type of object that the witness was unable to identify himself." Some are bound to have mundane explanations, such as routine rocket launches, meteors, high-altitude balloons and the like. Terrestrial false alarms.

Davenport said the most reliable reports involve multiple witnesses who corroborate each other's sightings. Photographic or radar evidence certainly helps. Following up with a witness is also an important due-diligence. In many of the reports listed on NUFORC's database, Davenport has noted the tone of the witness (if it's a phone conversation), and whether or not they seemed "sober" and "serious-minded." Occupation sometimes lends credibility, as well: Public servants, police officers, military veterans, airline pilots and former astronauts are among his most reliable witnesses.

An ideal example of a reliable report, he said, is the Phoenix Lights mass sighting in 1997. NUFORC was one of the few organizations that kept records and a hotline open for reports of this sighting.

I asked Davenport to show me more reports that fit this standard of sober-mindedness in the face of the inexplicable. These are his choices for the most noteworthy UFO encounters and sightings in recent memory, condensed here. The full reports are publically available by date.

My family and I were sitting outside. When I looked up into the sky, I saw a fairly large orange glowing orb moving rapidly overhead right about 90 degrees of elevation.

About one or two minutes later, we saw a group of three similar objects along the same flight path as the first one.

I am a retired military fighter pilot, retired commercial airline pilot and former astronaut. I have no explanation for what we saw.

When the object first appeared it was very blue and very brightly illuminated, the lights weren't flickering or dimming like in typical aircraft. This was not like any star or planet I have ever seen in the sky before. The object was slightly bigger in appearance than the North Star, and emitted no sounds, and moved very smoothly, until it came to a complete stop northeast of where we were looking and positioned.

The stars, now obviously lights, we not in motion, they were not satellites and were not falling stars. They were as stationary as the stars in the background.

Mankind does not have craft that can fly at that altitude and not be moving.

I looked directly out my [car] passenger window and parallel with me was a small domed craft, what appeared to be hovering, but it also stayed parallel with me as I continued to drive. It was approximately 10-15 feet above the Columbia River water, well below the Interstate and train track. There were no boats in the water and this was an obvious aircraft with an obvious shape, above the water.

This entire event was only a matter of seconds, approximately 12, but felt slow motion at the same time as I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

3:30 p.m.

I was deer hunting in central Illinois.

I saw a small object come down about 4 feet in front of me. At first I glanced at it and thought it was a spider or some insect. I stared at this object for a few seconds and realized it was not an insect. This object was a round ball slightly smaller than a marble with a brownish iridescent color, like motor oil. This ball hovered in front of me at eye level, about 4 feet directly in front of me.

This troubles me as I can not think of a logical explanation for this.

"I know what I saw."

7:15 p.m.

I am a retired state police officer from the state of Arizona after nearly 35 years of service.

I happened to glance out my kitchen window that faces north, and I observed some bright orange lights traveling from the west to east.

I was in awe because they just keep   coming. I would estimate as many as 150 of these orange objects.

I thought "but I have video proof", and when I went to view the pictures, nothing was visible, just a black screen.

I know what I saw and unless someone has a better explanation, I feel that I was fortunate enough to see what many of us hope to see someday and will not.

Is Australia's extinct thylacine — a striped, dog-like marsupial commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger — not extinct after all? Recent alleged thylacine sightings convinced scientists at James Cook University in Australia to investigate whether the species is still among the living.

The new investigation for the purported thylacines will survey sites on the Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, Australia, based on accounts supplied by an employee of the Queensland Park Service, and by another observer. [Read more about the Tasmanian Tiger.]

Vegetables are good for your health, but now there's a whole new way that one veggie could help your heart: Spinach leaves can be used as a scaffold for beating human heart cells, a new study finds.

Spinach leaves make a good scaffold because once the plant cells are washed away, a cellulose structure remains, the researchers said. [Read more about the lab grown heart.]

The fearsome Tyrannosaurus rex didn't have lips if it looked anything like a newly discovered tyrannosaur species that scientists are calling the "frightful lizard."

The researchers studied the D. horneri skulls in minute detail, and then compared them with the skulls of crocodilians (a group that includes crocodiles and their semiaquatic reptile relatives, such as alligators and caimans), birds and mammals, as scientists have determined what skin type goes with each bone texture in these creatures. The alien cult that hijacked British TV

The alien cult that hijacked British TV

26 November 1977 was a deeply cold night in England. The regional station Southern Television was just beginning its evening news bulletin and families across South-East England gathered together in their living rooms to watch the news. Children waited impatiently for Looney Tunes, which they knew would be shown directly after the news programme.

The alien cult that hijacked British TV

As Andrew Gardner read out news of the conflict in Rhodesia, a hissing, shuffling sound drowned out his voice. Suddenly, a booming voice addressed the startled viewers, as the screen still showed the oblivious newsreader reading through the day’s headlines.

This is the voice of Vrillon, a representative of the Ashtar Galactic Command, speaking to you.

It was now ten past five in the evening. With the news report still continuing on the screen, the deep, oscillating voice continued with his message.

For many years you have seen us as lights in the skies.

None of the evening staff at Southern Television were aware of the intrusion to their signal. International Broadcasting Authority engineers in Croydon, Surrey did not hear the rogue signal, nor was it detected at the main transmitter site in Southampton.

The message from “Vrillon” continued for nearly six minutes as stunned families across South-East England tried to comprehend what they were hearing. Some panicked, believing that aliens really were communicating through the television.

A user named Podshell posted his memories of that night onSpiritual Forums:

“I remember nipping into our living room for something for my sister, who was cooking in the kitchen, and the television was on, and then the broadcast started. I watched, or rather listened, mesmerised.”

The full message from “Vrillon” advised humanity that weapons must be destroyed if humans could ascend to the next stage in evolution, prompting listeners to seek out small groups preaching the same extra-terrestrial wisdom.

So how did “Vrillon” manage to spread his alien message on regional television? Surprisingly, it probably wasn’t via UFO laser beam.

The local television transmitter is the likely source of the rogue transmission. Unusually for a transmitter serving such a large area, the Hannington transmitter merely received and rebroadcasted a signal sent from Rowbridge on the Isle of Wight.

The alien cult that hijacked British TV

With the sound being transmitted as an FM broadcast, it was easy to take over the transmission. All that “Vrillon” needed to do was drive up to the transmitter at Hannington, and broadcast on the same FM frequency as the transmission from the Isle of Wight.

The Hannington television transmitter sits in the English countryside. Whoever took over the signal would have had to travel along the small roads leading to the hillside transmitter.

The story of most rogue transmissions usually ends with a clever misfit owning up and explaining how they did it. Sometimes they want fame, other times they want money. In the case of the Southern Television takeover, the motive was far more mysterious.

Nobody has ever come forward to confess to the “Vrillon” broadcast. In 1967, the Wireless Telegraphy Act was created in the UK, outlawing the kind of rogue signal used on Southern Television. Phreaks and hackers were warned that their mischief could land them with hundreds of pounds in fines, or even a prison sentence.

As nobody has come forward to confess to the incident, we cannot say for sure who was responsible. We can, however, make a good guess that they were a big fan of a UFO cult living in America.

The alien cult that hijacked British TV

Carole Austen examines a drawing of extraterrestrial being Ashtar.

By 1977 Ashtar’s followers were in disarray. The glory days of the 1940s were over. The time travel chamber they had built named the Integratron had still not been completed. Could this group of UFO-worshippers living on an airstrip in America be behind the rogue broadcast?

George Van Tassel worked in the aerospace industry, tending to the planes that formed the backbone of the booming industry. When his mysterious friend Frank Critzer was killed by US police after they suspected he was a German spy, Van Tassel took over the airport that belonged to him, along with the caves under Giant Rock.

The alien cult that hijacked British TV

Van Tassel and his followers held regular events at Giant Rock, believing it to be a contact point between humans and UFOs.

Since the 1940s, Van Tassel claimed to have received regular message from a godlike alien named Ashtar. The “Vrillon” message claims to originate from someone in Ashtar’s Galactic Command. The idea of a solar government had been communicated by Ashtar in the 1950s to Van Tassel.

After his messages became more and more elaborate, other UFOlogists began to claim to have communicated with Ashtar. Apocalyptic predictions abounded. All were ultimately unproven.

To keep the UFO fans loyal, a series of guidelines were created for messages from Ashtar. If someone transcribed a message from Ashtar’s government that didn’t meet the guidelines, it was declared fraudulent.

The alien cult that hijacked British TV

A religious image created by one of the thousands of modern-day followers of Ashtar and his galactic government.

The 1970s were not a good decade for the “classic” alien religions of the ’40s and ’50s. However, a new UFO cult that was flourishing was known as Raëlism. Founded in 1973 by racing driver Claude Vorilhon, this movement preach that Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed and all other deities were aliens who came to earth to share the news of the era of UFOs.

One theory claims that the “Vrillon” said to be speaking in the 1977 television message was actually the name “Vorilhon”.

It is believed that the message transmitted across South-East England originates from someone with a keen interest in counter-culture and UFOs. They made the chilly evening drive up to the hillside next to the Hannington transmitter, and pointed their cheap FM transmitter at the tower, taking over the small local channel, and causing international press coverage.

For the struggling UFO religions, any and all press was advantageous. Whether the person responsible for the Southern Television broadcast interruption was a cult member or just a well-read prankster, we may never know.

“Real” Men In Black look for hotel manager after UFO sighting over Niagara Falls

“Real” Men In Black look for hotel manager after UFO sighting over Niagara Falls

Fans of the wildly popular “Men In Black” film franchise may only be vaguely aware that the action-comedy movies are based on a long history of reports about alleged, mysterious entities who have approached UFO witnesses. One of the more compelling accounts reportedly occurred in the spring of 2009 at a Sheraton Hotel on the banks of Niagara Falls, New York.

Reports of Men in Black (MIB) first become popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s, though similar sightings have been recorded for centuries, with earlier accounts often associated with demonic or witchcraft beliefs.

Modern era MIB sightings are chiefly associated with UFO sightings, beginning in 1947.  Mysterious looking men, often dressed in black suits, fedora hats and trench coats, wearing sunglasses and seen driving black Cadillac sedans have reportedly followed and conducted surveillance on UFO witnesses. Witnesses claim MIB have visited their homes, possessed detailed knowledge about them, have often tried to discount their UFO sighting and warned them not to discuss their UFO experiences.

Witnesses have described MIB as very odd looking and sounding, with a “swarthy” appearance, pasty white complexions, oversized eyes and no eyebrows, eyelashes or other facial hair. They have been heard speaking with strange accents, odd sounding giggles and using outdated slang. MIB have exhibited confusion over simple items such as pens, utensils and food. No wonder the subject is fertile ground for Hollywood comedies.

MIB’s have explained to some witnesses that they are representatives of a secret government organization, but when pressed for identification, they have often quickly departed. Other theories suggest they are aliens who, for all intent look human.

1966- Alleged Men In Black reported and photographed.

As with all reports of fringe entities, proof of their existence is elusive at best. A rare photograph of an alleged MIB was published in the Fall 1968 issue of “Saucer Magazine.” The photo of the MIB and the black car he was allegedly driving was accompanied by a detailed witness account reported from New Jersey.

2009- MIB look for UFO witness at Niagara Falls hotel

A surveillance video of two alleged MIBs entering a Sheraton Hotel lobby on the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls was posted to YouTube (see below). According to an investigation conducted by The Ariel Phenomenon Investigations Team (API), a Washington, D.C., area based UFO research organization, the alleged MIB entered the hotel on May 15, 2009, and asked to see the general manager, who with a fellow employee working security for the hotel, had witnessed a triangle shaped UFO fly slowly and silently over the hotel seven months earlier, on the night of October14, 2008.

The UFO sightings

The two hotel employees described the craft they witnessed as approximately 240 feet long, with three white lights on all three sides, and a pulsing red light in the middle of the object. They observed the UFO for about 10 minutes as it slowly and silently flew at an altitude of around 500 feet, east to west, from over Niagara’s Horseshoe Falls toward their hotel. The craft emitted a beam of bright, white light directed downward toward the water. As they observed the craft, the light beam shifted direction and aimed directly at the two witnesses, which frightened them.

About a week later, the hotel manager was alone in the hotel parking lot at one in the morning, when he noticed another black triangle flying in the same direction but at a much higher altitude.

MIB visit followed UFO sightings

About 7 months after the two sightings, on May 15, hotel employees reported a disturbing experience when two men, who looked and dressed identically in black trench coats and hats, entered the hotel lobby and asked to speak with the hotel manager.

They approached the hotel bellman, who told the two “extremely odd looking” men that the manager was not working that day. The bellman said the two men appeared to not believe him and began walking around the hotel, looking for the manager.  When the bellman returned from some work tasks, the two men were gone.

The hotel manager returned to work the next day, and the bellman took him aside to tell him what had happened and how he felt “freaked out” by the encounter with the two men, who he described as extremely pale, tall and identical in looks and dress, including matching hats and trench coats.

“Real” Men In Black look for hotel manager after UFO sighting over Niagara Falls Enlarged image of MIB entering hotel lobby.

Skeptical, yet alarmed, the manager went to the hotel security office and examined surveillance tapes of the previous day. He located the images of the two men entering the hotel lobby.

“Real” Men In Black look for hotel manager after UFO sighting over Niagara Falls Sheraton Hotel at Niagara Falls where alleged MIB visited.

The next day, another hotel employee asked to speak with the manager in private, and described her encounter with the two men. As they asked her about the manager, she recalled that the two began to speak of things that made no sense to her, regarding “governments and conspiracies.”  Fear came over her when she noticed that they had “no facial hair, no eyebrows, no nothing.” She said it appeared as though they were wearing wigs that were attached to their hats.

The woman told her boss about how large and blue looking their eyes were, and that she sensed they were hypnotic. As she continued to describe her experience, she became upset, crying as she explained how she felt that the two men were somehow able to read her mind about the manager, to the point that she tried to block thoughts of him.  She also was disturbed by how the two men never blinked, “not once.”

API closed their investigation of the UFO sightings and the subsequent MIB encounter as unresolved. API’s credibility has been under attack for publishing the alleged case. The information regarding the MIB incident was based on the manager’s account, which could not be verified by API, though their investigation concluded that the witness was credible. The video of the MIB entering the lobby was provided by the hotel manager.

Much has been written about efforts undertaken by the U.S. Government to play down the existence of UFOs, which contributes to public ridicule of the subject.

AFTER ARRIVAL: PHOENIX LIGHTS 20 YEARS LATER

AFTER ARRIVAL: PHOENIX LIGHTS 20 YEARS LATER

AFTER ARRIVAL

PHOENIX LIGHTS 20 YEARS LATER

On March 13, 1997 something extra-ordinary happened in the skies over Phoenix across Arizona. On that clear evening, a parade of low flying, mile wide V-shaped arrays of orbs and a craft glided silently overhead, attracting the attention of at least 10,000 people.

As a result of the widespread publicity, and the fact the sightings occurred mainly over heavily populated areas, the controversy concerning what really happened back in 1997 in Arizona still exists today.

Many theories exist to try to explain the strange sightings. Skeptics dismissed the sighting as military flares, and other types of military actions that they denied at first, until they realized there was a crisis that snowballed all the way to the President. The problem with the flares theory is that some of the reports of the sightings claim a huge size for the unidentified flying triangle which some estimated to me at least a mile long.

The UFO event happened for three hours. It came in from the northwest part of the state, diagonally through Phoenix, down to Tucson, and then it turned around and came back.

However, the UFO sighting is only part of the story.

In the July 1997 issue of Scientific American, it was reported that on the night of the UFO event, bursts of gamma radiation, were detected by the Hubble Telescope. The gamma radiation was eventually traced back to somewhere within our own solar system.

AFTER ARRIVAL: PHOENIX LIGHTS 20 YEARS LATER

NORAD went Defcon 2 on the evening of March 13, 1997 after an Air Force Misti-3 satellite covering North America was disabled and had its batteries drained as a space borne object was observed passing over the satellite.

Also on March 13, 1997, then-President Bill Clinton fell down and broke his knee while visiting the home of golfer Greg Norman. Clinton had to be rushed away in a helicopter and was kept at Bethesda Naval Hospital underground for over two days. There were press conferences showing diagrams of all the surgery that was going to have to be done and how long it was going to last and why he had to cancel his big meeting in Sarajevo with the prime minister of Russia.

Just hours after these events, around 2 am on March 14, 1997, President Clinton was rushed to the hospital after suffering from a knee injury.

Oddly enough , a few days later he’s walking around and he’s okay. The issue was dropped.

Government secrecy theorists might be easily led to the conclusion that the broken knee was a cover story designed to hide the perceived need to get the commander-in-chief to safety in the wake of the unnerving events happening out in the Southwest desert.

At the time it appeared that the aliens had arrived and the event was like a scene out of the movie, Independence Day, a movie that was a hit at the box office the year before the incident. A year before, a controversial film was released which depicted what appeared to be an alien on a slap being cut up by unknown men in bio suites. This film was known as the notorious, Alien Autopsy.

The Fox Television Network aired the “Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction” special with Jonathan Frakes as host. The special was aired twice on Fox and each time there was in excess of 17 million viewers. Time Magazine compared it to the Zapruder film, saying that no other film has had so much intense debate since the movie that showed Kennedy’s brains being blown out in Dallas.

AFTER ARRIVAL: PHOENIX LIGHTS 20 YEARS LATER

This film was said to be a hoax, however a German film collector, Volker Spielberg bought the rights to the film for an untold sum of money claiming the film was real footage from a German alien autopsy in the 1940’s.

Each viewer, regardless of whether or not it was a hoax, now has that snuff film in their consciousness and the ritualistic autopsy that some believed was a satanic ritual performed on a human.

The truth is that those who watched the television special do not realize that, even though your eyes saw an alien being cut up, you were also subtextually watching a human being, or an anthropomorphic facsimile being butchered on prime time television.

The modern age of the UFO runs along parallel to the history of the Cold War. Both began shortly after World War II during the late 1940s and continued for 4 decades. Those years produced the majority of “classic” UFO cases that fill books, websites and TV documentaries with most of their content to this day.

However, it can be said that no documentary or even alien disaster movie could have prepared us for what came next in 1997.

By the early 1990s, the Cold War was over. Shortly afterwards, the last flashes of the ‘classic Saucer’ UFO age seemed to blink out with the Phoenix Lights — an event that happened 20 years ago.

This incident was different – it appeared to be more omnipresent and yet most people are not even aware that it happened despite the fact that it received mass publicity and was investigated by government officials.

It was either the beginning of a real alien invasion, or a psychological operation devised to gauge human reaction to strange activity in the sky.

Peter Davenport director of the National UFO Reporting Center called the sighting “probably the most dramatic event in the history of modern ufology” because of the number of witnesses, the size of the craft they reported and the interest the military apparently took in it.

There are also other facts about the case that have been overlooked or even forgotten that need to be mentioned in order to determine the impact of such a sighting.

It was reported that before the incident that other lights of what appeared to be smaller craft were seen over Arizona before the Phoenix Lights event occurred, it was also reported that whatever this large aircraft was – it was also sighted over Henderson, Nevada and Mexico before it was reported hovering over Phoenix.

The event happened in the middle of March, but it didn’t become general knowledge until June 18, 1997, when USA TODAY put a brief headlined, “Skies, phone lines light up Ariz.” on the front page. USA Today gave full coverage with witnesses and a diagram of the large triangle that was sighted over the area. It took three months for the incident to go viral.

AFTER ARRIVAL: PHOENIX LIGHTS 20 YEARS LATER

The internet was already a buzz with the story and it eventually made it to the mainstream. What is odd is that most people don’t even know about the incident or they have mysteriously forgotten about it.

This is an important clue because during a meeting of the UFO Congress it was reported that that instead of being awed and immediately wanting to discuss what they saw, some witnesses reported a sort of temporary amnesia.

There have been some witnesses who appeared in documentaries that have claimed they watched the lights appear and disappear over a period of time but didn’t say a word about it.

One witness had reported that he stopped his car on the side of the road and watched with several others as a craft “slowly glided overhead. Not a word was spoken. After it went on by, everyone got in their car and drove home.

There were others who felt a spiritual experience with the UFO sighting, this type of experience was also reported in 2001 over Carteret, New Jersey.

On September 6th, 2001, 3 days prior to the September 11th 2001 attacks, there was a major UFO sighting over Carteret. Unidentified objects appeared as lights in a huge V-type formation moving silently through the air over the Arthur Kill Waterway (just South of Newark International Airport). The event was witnessed by hundreds of onlookers, including police officers and a church reverend, the sighting was reported the next day by every major news organization. People that had experienced the sighting actually felt that it was similar to a religious experience.

AFTER ARRIVAL: PHOENIX LIGHTS 20 YEARS LATER

Dr. Lynne Kitei who has been at the forefront of the case was a skeptic who is now a believer concurs with the idea that people felt a sort of spiritual awakening when they saw the sighting. She spoke at the UFO gathering in McMinnville Oregon last year and told us that there has not been one report of harm, threat, or abduction connected with the mass sighting event. She goes on to say that Witnesses were in awe, excited, even grateful to have had such an extraordinary experience.

However, that has not stopped film makers from spinning tales of abduction and missing people connected to the event.

The film the “Phoenix Incident” was released last year. It was another “found footage” film loosely based on “real events” however loosely is an understatement. The film producers created a mass viral campaign that included stories about a “vast military cover-up over the disappearance of four friends off-roading in the mountains near Phoenix after witnessing the U.S. military shoot down a UFO.”

Another “found footage” film is set to be released next month called “Phoenix Forgotten.” This yet another film that is loosely based on “real events.” The story follows three people who take off into the desert to investigate the UFO sighting and find some alien horrors.

I can’t believe we have two movies that are basically the same chronicling a fictional account of abductions when there were some pretty inexplicable moments and terrifying things that happened after the Phoenix Lights event.

On March 26th, 1997 Marshall Applwewhite and 39 followers of the Heaven’s Gate cult committed suicide at a home in Rancho Santa Fe California. The bodies were neatly placed on bed with purple shrouds placed over their faces. It was believed that Applewhite had convinced his followers that the Phoenix lights incident was an indication that there was also a ship that was in Comet Hale Bopp and that in order to joining the evolutionary level above human they had to shed their human containers in a ritual suicide.

On or around April 2, 1997, an A-10 warplane was stolen by Major Craig Button in Arizona around the time of the sighting. The plane was seen in Utah. The wreckage of the plane was eventually found on April 2nd in the Colorado Rockies three weeks later. It was reported in UFO Magazine that Button was actually aware of what happened in Phoenix and was shaken by the incident.

Captain Button turned off his transponder, which made the aircraft difficult to track. His jet was last spotted in the air about 100 miles west of Denver. It zigzagged in the air before impacting the mountainous terrain about 15 miles (SW of Vail, Colorado, on Gold Dust Peak in a remote part of Eagle County.

The crash occurred at 13,200 feet of elevation. It took months for a search party to recover the aircraft and Craig D. Button’s remains. The four 500-pound Mk-82 bombs that were on the aircraft were never found despite an exhaustive search involving metal detectors and ground-penetrating radar.

However, there has been some speculation that after the sighting in Arizona, Button became obsessed with the possibility of hidden alien bases in the Southwest and decided it was his duty to destroy them. Hundreds of people reported hearing loud explosions in Northern Arizona, Telluride and Aspen.

It was a mysterious situation that will never be explained. Some believed that Button was attacking a secret U.S. underground base. However, the government had covered up the situation.

On Thursday, April 17, 1997 there was as incredible report that a U.S. satellite, GOES-9, had photographed “a very large anomalous object” over central Alaska 8 a.m. Pacific time. Immediately, the GOES-9 image was posted on several websites, and the news went viral on the internet.

AFTER ARRIVAL: PHOENIX LIGHTS 20 YEARS LATER

A second GOES-9 image, recorded at 8:30 a.m., showed that the “anomalous object” had flown south and was now just west of the northern coast of Vancouver Island. The image also showed “an anomalous object of the same size” over the Pacific Ocean approximately 50 miles west of San Francisco.

A third GOES-9 image, taken at 9 a.m., showed the San Francisco object gone and the first object back in Alaska, near Glenallen.

A fourth GOES-9 image, taken 11 a.m. registered a new object “half the size of the first two” hovering over Colorado.

The first two objects were described as “square or rectangular” and an estimated 25 miles long.

At 2 p.m., the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a “heads up” alert, citing “a potential threat” to the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) center at Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado, 65 miles south of Denver.

Maj. Gen. Jeff Grime, CO of Cheyenne Mountain said there was no threat to the nearby city of Colorado Springs or to any other military facility in the area, adding, “It’s totally focused at us here.”

Rumors circulated that NORAD had “gone to DEFCON-4 in response to the presence of the “anomalous objects” found by GOES-9.

Maj. Gen. Grime told the media that extra precautionary security was needed to protect the 1,100 personnel at the base.

Security measures included cancellation of public tours at the center, erection of barricades on the access roads, and a 24-hour-guard on the maintenance portal on the south side of the mountain. The “lockdown” was carried out by 80 troops of the 721st Security Police Squadron.

Oddly, security stated that this had nothing to do with the Craig Button Incident.

20 years later we can conclude that there was most certainly an excitement about UFO and space activity. People were looking in the skies to try and find Comet Hale-Bopp and in the process, saw things in the sky they did not understand.

There is some controversy as to how best to classify the reports 20 years after the event. Some are of the opinion that the differing nature of the eyewitness reports indicates that several unidentified objects were in the area, each of which was its own separate “event.”

One specific object can be seen from different angles, with the angle of the object only reflecting part of its light system, depending on atmospheric or weather conditions, or the very way a witness looks at the object can make this difference. It is very possible that two witnesses can see the same object at the same time, and give two completely different accounts.

The event was at first ridiculed by local officials as a trick of light and possible flares from nearby Luke air force base. However, it was later revealed by then Governor Fife Symington and Senator John McCain said the UFO threat over Phoenix was very real and to this day both the wedge “Triangular Craft” and the sightings of orbs remain a mystery.

Symington says he saw a large triangular “craft of unknown origin” with lights, moving slowly. “It was dramatic. And it couldn’t have been flares because it was too symmetrical,” he says. “It had a geometric outline, a constant shape.”

Arizona Senator John McCain, a friend of Symington’s who the former Governor describes as “open-minded,” acknowledged at a 2000 press conference that lights were seen over Arizona. “That has never been fully explained. He went on to say that there was no evidence of aliens.”

He also made a formal request to the USAF to officially investigate the ‘Phoenix Lights’ incident.

20 years later a report has not been publically disclosed.

Frances Barwood was on the Phoenix City Council when the famous mass UFO sighting occurred in 1997. When the media questioned her about it, she asked the rest of the council, because she had not heard about it. They ignored her, and her request to look into the incident. She then set out to find witnesses to the case and has been openly speaking about what happened the night of the event.

AFTER ARRIVAL: PHOENIX LIGHTS 20 YEARS LATER

Janet Napolitano called for an investigation into the Phoenix Lights incident during her 1997 campaign to become Arizona’s Attorney General and was elected to that office in 1998.

She has not disclosed any information on the incident or has not revealed what answers she received about the UFO sighting.

In 2000, the Department of Defense maintained that it could not find any information about the triangular object, in response to a court-ordered search requested by a U.S. District court in Phoenix, as part of a class action suit filed by witnesses.

The Phoenix Lights have been arguably the most intriguing UFO sighting to capture the imaginations of not only the citizens of Arizona but also the entire nation.

Date of sighting: Unknown
Location of sighting: Earths Sun

This UFO was found by Paranormal Crucible of Youtube, but the date was never visible and the source photo was not posted, so I cannot confirm its date. The object has rounded edges and a hollow center. O believe the center actually has a glass dome or opening. Its not see through from one side to the other. Also the UFO is fatter at its center and thinner on its edges. All these things indicate that it is an alien space craft since its shape conforms to tens of thousands of UFO reports from the past.

NASA Responds To A Video Showing Several UFOs Behind An Astronaut On ISS

NASA Responds To A Video Showing Several UFOs Behind An Astronaut On ISS

nasa-ufo

The NASA has always been tight-lipped over allegations of alien visitations, but the U.S. space agency issued a statement about it after a video made the rounds online showing several apparent UFOs crossing a window behind an astronaut on the International Space Station (ISS).

NASA released the footage online, and UFO hunters have claimed that it was conclusive proof extraterrestrial does exist.

The video was then uploaded to several UFO websites. It shows Italian European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti demonstrating how to operate window shutters at the space station.

As she demonstrates and talks in front of the camera, multiple white objects seem to come shooting into view.

Many UFO enthusiasts believe those are unknown objects passing the ISS and the footage is a smoking gun evidence of the existence of UFOs and aliens.

This is not the first time UFOs allegedly caught on cam passing the ISS, but videos showing the anomalies usually got cut off for no apparent reason. UFO hunters suggest that the cutting of videos has been deliberately done by NASA personnel to hide the truth.

NASA usually does not respond to UFO claims, but the agency issued a statement lately. It denied the existence or any discovery of UFOs in the International Space Station. It pointed out that the artifacts in photos and videos from the orbiting laboratory, which were posted online, were just reflections from station windows.

American astronaut Tom Jones dispelled the myth last year saying that astronauts have not observed any proof of ET life. He stated that claimed UFOs in images and videos from the shuttle or space station have turned out to be meteors, lightning flashes, drifting orbital debris, and ice crystals.

However, conspiracy theorists suspect that NASA and veteran astronaut Jones are just part of the cover-up. They dismiss NASA and Mr. Jones explanations and believe that the bright lights or objects seen on camera in the distance from the station are alien spacecraft.

Search For Alien Life: Robots Will Dig Through Moon Ice With Buzzsaws, Catapults

Search For Alien Life: Robots Will Dig Through Moon Ice With Buzzsaws, Catapults

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has put together a bunch of robot prototypes that could traverse and bore through ice on moons in the farthest reaches of our solar system, ones that scientists believe may contain liquid oceans and thus potentially could be harboring extraterrestrial life.

NASA is developing robots, including ones with robotic claws, that could take samples on icy moons in the outer solar system as part of Earth’s search for alien life. Photo: NASA/JPL-Caltech

JPL says those moons might include Enceladus, one of Saturn’s moons and a favorite of some scientists because it has internal heat as well as an underground ocean. There’s also Europa, a moon of Jupiter; and Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, where there’s so much static electricity that the sand particles on its surface stick together so tightly you wouldn’t need water to build a sand castle.

Read: The Signs of Alien Life on Other Planets

According to a NASA video (below), one of the features of the developing moon robots is a catapult arm that could launch a smaller sample-collecting machine before pulling it back with a tether. There are also heated prongs that melt ice, drills and buzzsaws to power through the blocks, and “special wheels to cross ice that behaves like sand.”

Some ice, in particular on Enceladus, is like sand in that it is made of loose grains, and that strange consistency can be found around attractive sampling areas where there are “fissures that blow out jets of gas and icy material from below the surface.”

There are also the challenges of temperatures substantially colder than freezing and extreme radiation.

NASA is still reviewing the prototypes.

“We’re working with NASA Headquarters to identify the specific systems we need to build now, so that in 10 or 15 years, they could be ready for a spacecraft,” Tom Cwik, the head of JPL’s Space Technology Program, said in a statement.

The robots are not the first NASA has developed for a hypothetical mission to another planet. It also has the PUFFER —  short for Pop-Up Flat Folding Explorer Robot — that could accompany the Mars rover on a mission to the Red Planet, for example, and help by folding up to squeeze into tight spaces or getting over obstacles that the bulkier rover cannot.

About the new potential fleet of ice-exploring robots, Hari Nayar, who led the robotics research, said in a NASA statement, “One of the most exciting places we can go is deep into subsurface oceans — but doing so requires new technologies that don’t exist yet.”

Apollo 17 moon walker and geologist Jack Schmitt champions the possible economics of mining helium 3 on the moon.

NASA's ice-world robots can reach, launch, and melt in search of life

NASA's ice-world robots can reach, launch, and melt in search of life

ice world robots europa
JPL-Caltech

Engineers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory are developing an array of robotic ice tools that may help uncover the frozen secrets of alien worlds. As part of the Ocean Worlds Mobility and Sensing study, each of these tools has been designed to collect samples from above or below the surface of icy moons such as Jupiter’s Europa.

“In the future, we want to answer the question of whether there is life on the moons of the outer planets — on Europa, Enceladus and Titan,” Tom Cwik, who leads JPL’s Space Technology Program, said in a news release. “We’re working with NASA headquarters to identify the specific systems we need to build now, so that in 10 or 15 years, they could be ready for a spacecraft.”

Liquid water offers one of our best bets for discovering extraterrestrial life. But, on an icy world, we’ll have to dig deep to access it.

More: This image search database is out of this world with 140,000-plus NASA photos

Among the new tools are wheels that enable rovers to navigate icy terrain, a folding arm that can stretch 33 feet to grab samples at a distance, and a projectile launcher than can shoot a sampling probe up to 164 feet.

Engineers have also adapted methods used on Earth, such as “melt probes,” which melt through snow and ice to help scientists study the regions below. But, since melt probes tend to be inefficient, they would freeze up long before they dug all the way through Europa’s crust, which is somewhere between 6.2 and 12.4 miles deep. JPL engineering fellow Brian Wilcox devised a new tool that uses a vacuum-insulated capsule to retain its energy with a big chunk of heat-source plutonium. A rotating saw blade attached to the bottom is used to grind through the ice.

“We think there are glacier-like ice flows deep within Europa’s frozen crust,” Wilcox said. “Those flows churn up material from the ocean down below. As this probe tunnels into the crust, it could be sampling waters that may contain biosignatures, if any exist.”

The prototypes are now under review by NASA.

Dark Side of the Moon is hiding THIS incredible secret - and UFO hunter has shock 'PROOF'

Dark Side of the Moon is hiding THIS incredible secret - and UFO hunter has shock 'PROOF'

IT has been a source of mystery for generations – but what IS on the dark side of the moon?

By Nicholas Bieber

IT has been a source of mystery for generations – but what IS on the dark side of the moon?

Planet Earth only gets to see one side of the giant space rock, and what lies on the other half is unknown.

Now a UFO enthusiast has claimed aliens are living in a supermassive network of tunnels and caves on our moon.

The dark side of the moon cannot be seen from Earth

NASA

HIDDEN: The Dark Side of the Moon is hidden from the Earth's view - is it holding THIS secret?

He suspects they are thriving in underground cities covering the mysterious "dark side" – which can never be seen from Earth.

And now he has “evidence” in astonishing images from a lost lunar spaceship which has been found orbiting the moon after going missing eight years ago.

The images, from Chandrayaan-1, appear to show a network of lava tubes snaking under the surface of the satellite, with thousands of caves scattered all over.

It was created by streams of magma which ran dry, but now Jesse – who runs YouTube channel UFO News – believes they are homing an entire civilisation.

First picture of dark side of the moon

NASA

OUT OF VIEW: The 'Dark Side' was pictured for the first time – by the Russians – in 1959

“An alien civilisation could be living much closer to home that we previously thought”

Jesse, alien investigator

“The presence of enormous caves on the moon suggests that an alien civilisation could be living much closer to home that we previously thought,” the alien enthusiast told Daily Star Online.

“We find it fascinating that an extensive network of caves and tunnels, some of which are large enough to house entire cities, are covering the surface of the moon.

“Why is it that these caves have slipped under the radar of public interest for so long? Is it possible that NASA could be privately discouraging the exploration of these structures in order to suppress public interest?

“NASA has admitted that these caves could be used as potential locations for a human colony on the moon. It makes us wonder if they might have already investigated them without public knowledge?"

Lava tubes on the moon

NASA

ALIEN CITIES: It is claimed extra terrestrial life is lurking in underground tunnels

It is a known fact that craters are covering the moon, and have been created by meteorites that have peppered its surface.

But conspiracy theorists like Jesse believe the aliens are hiding out on the shadows there, and in the tunnels which connect to them.

“Prior to the invention of satellites, the dark side of the moon would have been a convenient location for an alien civilisation to live and remain hidden from view,” he told us.

“As our technology evolves, such a civilisation would likely be forced to use new tactics to remain hidden.

“These caves and tunnels would make the perfect location for an alien civilisation to take refuge from the prying eyes of humanity."

Craters on moon

GETTY

HIDING: Jesse suspects the aliens are hiding from us in the shadows of these craters

The "far side of the moon" which Jesse believes is inhabited by extra terrestrial life has long been dubbed the "dark side".

This is because it can never be seen from our planet, as it spins at the same rate as it orbits the Earth, meaning it is kept hidden from our view.

It was only pictured for the first time – by the Russians – in 1959.

Jesse told us: “Many of these massive caves reside on the dark side of the moon, out of view of ground based telescopes.

“Buried deep within the ground, the caves offer protection from the sun and the harsh realities of space.

“In our most recent video on UFO News we included pictures of what appear to be the surface marks of these tunnels crisscrossing the surface.

Craters and tunnels on moon

NASA

PROOF? Jesse says the evidence lie in pictures like these of the tunnels and craters

“These well established pictures serve as new evidence that a super highway of interconnected lava tubes are being used as a highway system to allow an alien civilisation to move about the moon undetected.

“Until NASA is willing to do some direct investigation of these objects using high definition cameras, we are going to take their silence as a nod in the direction that aliens are indeed on the moon.”

The cube-sized satellite where the new images of the moon have come from first went missing in 2009, after being successfully launched in October 2008.

It is roughly the size of a smart car, measuring 1.5 metres tall on each side, and had completed 3,400 orbits around the moon when, less than a year later, radio contact was lost.

But this year it was announced the probe has been found orbiting 200 kilometres above the lunar surface by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.

LOST SPACESHIP: This is the eerie picture of the dark side of the moon from the missing probe

Jesse's suspicions come 10 years after the "Apollo 20 hoax" - which saw claims that NASA carried out a secret lunar mission.

Videos surfaced on YouTube from a user claiming to be a retired American astronaut who commandered the mission.

The clips appeared to show proof of the existence of intelligence, alien life on the moon, and included a picture of a female alien - nicknamed Mona Lisa - hibernating.

But all the videos were posted on the video sharing site on April 1 - April Fools' Day - hinting the story was nothing more than an elaborate prank.

Annual Canadian UFO report released with only 4 per cent of sightings unexplained

In total, there were 1,131 sightings of unidentified flying objects reported across Canada in 2016.

Chris Rutkowsky is a science writer and research coordinator at Ufology Research, which publishes the annual Canadian UFO survey. He said that the record-low unexplained sightings are likely the result of more careful scrutiny of raw report information available.

WINNIPEG—Bright lights, airplane near-misses and light-fingered aliens with a penchant for cool shades are all part of the annual report on UFO sightings in Canada.

The 2016 Canadian UFO Survey produced by Winnipeg-based Ufology Research was released this week. In total, there were 1,131 sightings of unidentified flying objects reported across Canada.

In a first for the 28 years the study has been conducted, only 4 per cent of the sightings could not be explained. Study author Chris Rutkowski said that record-low rating is likely the result of more careful scrutiny of raw report information available.

Summer is the big time of year for UFO sightings and mostly they were simply lights that people saw in the sky.

The provinces with the largest populations had the most reports, so Quebec led the country with 38.5 per cent of the sightings, while Ontario had 26 per cent and British Columbia had 17 per cent.

The most popular shape of UFO reported in 2016 was a simple point source of light (57 per cent). Other shapes reported were triangle (4 per cent), ball (9 per cent), cigar (3 per cent) and fireball (5 per cent). The classic “flying saucer” was only reported 48 times.

As for what the study calls “unknowns,” they included such cases as the “gigantic, disc-shaped object with searchlights” that was seen moving over the mountains in North Vancouver and the boomerang-shaped “cluster of stars” that moved across the sky near St. Thomas, Ont.

There was also the commercial airplane over Toronto that had a near miss with an object while on a routine flight on Nov. 14.

“The flight crew noticed an object directly ahead on their flight path. The object appeared to be solid, approximately five to eight feet in diameter and shaped like an upright doughnut or inner tube,” said the study.

“Cabin crew members received minor injuries when evasive action was taken. While the object was not likely a balloon and was suggested to be a drone, it was noted that drones could not fly at that altitude and distance.”

The study said the Transportation Safety Board ruled the incident as “a near collision with an unidentified airborne object.”

Close encounter cases are in the minority, but high on the strangeness scale.

Those included a man in Cornwall, P.E.I., who reported that a thin, six-foot-tall, long-fingered white alien in a black suit spoke to him in his bedroom before leaving by walking through a wall.

A man in Lanaudiere, Que., said he was transported into a field of plants and plunged into a bathtub “where he was surrounded by three green, big-eyed humanoid creatures who communicated with him telepathically.”

Not all close encounters are so dramatic, however. One person in Tecumseh, Ont., reported that an alien stole his sunglasses and belt, while someone from Rimouski, Que., filed a report which read simply: “They contacted me!”

NASA IS READY TO ANNOUNCE ALIEN LIFE: ALL PROTOCOLS ARE SET UP

NASA IS READY TO ANNOUNCE ALIEN LIFE: ALL PROTOCOLS ARE SET UP

700_75a7f9c48f518a65fdf782429747d4d6.jpg?v=1491077449

In a universe that is practically infinite, it would be extremely egocentric of anyone to suggest that life on earth represents the only intelligent life in the universe. Many people, researchers included, pose the argument that in all these years of technological prosperity of the human civilization, no sign of life has been found in outer space despite the best efforts of organizations like SETI. This problem is further propounded with Drake’s Equation.

The Drake equation estimates, roughly, how many planets may be inhabited by intelligent life. It seeks to quantify the question, “Are we alone?” So far, the conclusion of the equation is that with so many habitable planets out there, it is astonishing that no contact has been established with extraterrestrial life in all of human history. Therefore, one must conclude that there is no intelligent extraterrestrial life in the universe.

There is one problem with the Drake Equation. The equation overestimates the human being’s competency in collecting data from space. Scientists, despite their admirable persistence and best efforts, have only been able to explore an infinitesimally small volume of the universe. The conclusion that humans have not discovered aliens yet means there are no aliens is analogous to the someone scooping up the ocean water in a glass and saying there are no whales in the ocean because none are swimming in their glass. With the recent discovery of the exoplanet system TRAPPIST - 1, the odds of finding life on other planets have never been higher. The question now arises about how one should contact an alien civilization if and when the presence of intelligent life has been established. The book by NASA titled ‘Archaeology, Anthropology and Interstellar Communication’ focuses on this scenario. It would be difficult to determine whether the aliens are peaceful or barbaric; whether they are conquerors or explorers; whether they relish human meat or not.

The “Hollywood scientist” Neil Degrasse Tyson posits that the human body is made up of the same matter that is abundant in the universe and it is unlikely that intelligent life did not come into existence on other planets. When coming in contact with such a civilization, the very first impediment is to find a common “language.” One can reasonably assume that aliens do not speak the tongue of humans. They might not use sound as their method of communication at all. The book by NASA tackles this issue and proposes some ways in which human beings could communicate with the aliens.

The question of whether or not we are alone is as old as time itself. The question should now be restated as whether or not we are going to ever come in contact with an alien civilization. And if we do, would we have found in them an ally or a foe?

NASA Admits: We’re in Contact With No Less Than 4 Different Alien Species (Just Forgot to Mention It)

700_31039feb1836e0bde03154f01dbde532.jpg?v=1490975270

Yes, you got that right – NASA admits that it’s in contact with alien species. They just forgot to mention it! Weird, right? Well, not really. Just take a look at the article below to find out more about this. According to the recent reports, Trish Chamberson, an official spokesperson from NASA has confirmed the existence of extra-terrestrial life and has claimed that aliens have been visiting planet Earth for thousands of years.

NASA SPOKESWOMAN CONFIRMS THE EXISTENCE OF ALIENS

This is how the story goes – during the two-hour briefing, Trish Chamberson, an official spokesperson from NASA, confirmed that a number of theories which had previously been dismissed as groundless speculation from fringe enthusiasts are actually grounded in reality. Trish Chamberson, an official spokesperson from NASA, also made various sensational allegations in the course of the interview, claiming that the alien species known as the Greys have been visiting Earth for thousands of years and that they may have had a hand in the construction of megastructures such as the ancient pyramids of Giza and various other buildings dotted around the world.

ALIEN CONTACT?

“There are so many films, documentaries and TV programs on aliens, that we thought everyone was aware of them by now.”

And, after that, Trish Chamberson went on to confirm various theories about alien mining operations in the solar system. She also says that one of the mines was on the far side of the Moon and that various planets in the solar system were being assessed for minerals. Trish also said that aliens have begun to mine Jupiter, which is why observers have been able to see several apparently new rings appearing around the gas giant.

“Sorry. We just kinda assumed everyone knew about it.”

This is also very important for you to know – she also alleged that NASA is in regular contact with no less than four different and entirely separate alien species from various locations in the galaxy. Trish Chamberson also mentioned that all contact with the alien species has been amicable. While the aliens have raised no serious bone of contention with humanity, she has alleged that they have expressed concern about the proliferation and testing of nuclear weapons which has serious consequences not only for life on Earth but for races of peoples all over the galaxy.

“The aliens are actually harmless and only interested in the planet’s natural resources.”

But, she didn’t confirm that alien species are responsible for the abductions of human beings. Yes, Chamberson mentioned that the aliens are completely harmless, and their only interest in Earth relates to the planet’s natural resources.

“We were so busy back-engineering their technology, we simply forgot all about it. They even have a base on the far side of the moon, and are currently mining several planets in our solar system for minerals. They’ve only started on Jupiter recently, hence the new rings around it. It’s all good though, they’re a nice enough bunch. They don’t talk much though, but always complaining about our Nuclear weapons, claiming they affect parallel universes every time they’re triggered.”

SHOCK NASA STATEMENT: 'A CATACLYSMIC event has occurred in space but we have NO IDEA what'

SHOCK NASA STATEMENT: 'A CATACLYSMIC event has occurred in space but we have NO IDEA what'

NASA has reported a cataclysmic event is taking place in space, but experts are still investigating what exactly has happened.

Mystery X-ray flashes beamed towards Earth before vanishing just 24 hours later, leaving scientists to investigate the source.

The phenomenon, which stemmed from a galaxy 10.7 billion lightyears away, was captured by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory.

Initial findings suggest it came from a "completely new type of cataclysmic event".

A NASA spokesman said: "A mysterious flash of X-rays has been discovered by NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory in the deepest X-ray image ever obtained.

"This source likely comes from some sort of destructive event in space, but may be of a variety that scientists have never seen before."

Report co-author Kevin Schawinski, of ETH Zurich in Switzerland, said: "We may have observed a completely new type of cataclysmic event.

“Whatever it is, a lot more observations are needed to work out what we’re seeing.”

Franz Bauer of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in Santiago said: "Ever since discovering this source, we’ve been struggling to understand its origin.

“It’s like we have a jigsaw puzzle but we don’t have all of the pieces.”

The X-ray source, located in a region of the sky known as the Chandra Deep Field-South (CDF-S), has remarkable properties.

Prior to October 2014, this source was not detected in X-rays, but then it erupted and became at least a factor of 1,000 brighter in a few hours.

After about a day, the source had faded completely below the sensitivity of Chandra.

Thousands of hours of legacy data from the Hubble and Spitzer Space Telescopes helped determine that the event likely came from a faint, small galaxy about 10.7 billion lightyears from Earth.

For a few minutes, the X-ray source produced a thousand times more energy than all the stars in this galaxy.

Two of the three main possibilities to explain the X-ray source invoke gamma-ray burst (GRB) events.

GRBs are jetted explosions triggered either by the collapse of a massive star or by the merger of a neutron star with another neutron star or a black hole.

If the jet is pointing towards the Earth, a burst of gamma rays is detected.

As the jet expands, it loses energy and produces weaker, more isotropic radiation at X-ray and other wavelengths.

Possible explanations for the CDF-S X-ray source, according to the researchers, are a GRB that is not pointed toward Earth, or a GRB that lies beyond the small galaxy.

A third possibility is that a medium-sized black hole swallowed a white dwarf star.

Co-author Ezequiel Treister, also of the Pontifical Catholic University, said: "None of these ideas fits the data perfectly.

“But then again, we’ve rarely if ever seen any of the proposed possibilities in actual data, so we don’t understand them well at all.”

RELATED ARTICLES

The mysterious X-ray source was not seen at any other time during the two and a half months of exposure time Chandra has observed the CDF-S region, which has been spread out over the past 17 years.

Moreover, no similar events have yet to be found in Chandra observations of other parts of the sky.

If the X-ray source was caused by a GRB triggered by the merger of a neutron star with a black hole or another neutron star, then gravitational waves would also have been produced.

If such an event were to occur much closer to Earth, within a few hundred million light years, it may be detectable with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO).

A paper describing this result appears in the June 2017 issue of the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society and is available online.

Alien LIFE could be hidden on Mars, NASA sensationally announces

Alien LIFE could be hidden on Mars, NASA sensationally announces

LIFE on Mars could still be discovered, US space agency NASA has confirmed.

Scientists are investigating if the most simplistic forms of alien life developed in vast oceans that once covered the Red Planet.

They believe if they did, there may still be survivors in water that has remained beneath the surface.

NASA made the announcement as it unveiled the results of studies into what exactly stripped Mars of its atmosphere which meant it could no longer hold the oceans like they are here on Earth.

The study found it had been systematically stripped of its atmosphere by solar winds in the early years of our solar system.

The research, published in journal Science today looked at data collected by the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution Mission (MAVEN) space probe which is orbiting the planet.

A NASA spokesman said: "It's possible microbial life could have existed at the surface early in Mars’ history.

"As the planet cooled off and dried up, any life could have been driven underground or forced into rare surface oases."

NASA spokesman

Elsayed Talaat, MAVEN Program Scientist, at NASA Headquarters in Washington, said: "This discovery is a significant step toward unraveling the mystery of Mars' past environments.“ “In a broader context, this information teaches us about the processes that can change a planet’s habitability over time.”

The researchers found that solar winds stripped Mars of noble gas argon and carbon dioxide (CO2).

The spokesman added: "CO2 is of interest because it is the major constituent of Mars' atmosphere and because it's an efficient greenhouse gas that can retain heat and warm the planet.”

The team made its estimate using data from the Martian upper atmosphere, which was collected by MAVEN's Neutral Gas and Ion Mass Spectrometer (NGIMS).

This analysis included measurements from the Martian surface made by NASA's Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) instrument on board the Curiosity rover.

DID ALIENS DISCOVER A NEW VACATION HOTSPOT? UFO REPORTS TAKE A DIP

DISCOVER A NEW VACATION HOTSPOT? UFO REPORTS TAKE A DIP

Picture

by Roger Marsh

Could those pesky aliens have discovered better beaches on another planet? Maybe there was a galaxy-wide UFO recall and everyone’s in the shop getting upgraded flux capacitors.

Domestic UFO reports for the first quarter 2017 are down a staggering 32 percent as compared to the previous five years, according to Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Director of Research Robert Powell.

The MUFON witness database at mid-day March 31, 2017, is showing 992 UFO reports where the case occurred during January, February or March. During the five-year period 2012 through 2016 within the same three months, MUFON averaged receiving about 1,460 cases – showing a 32 percent dip in UFO reports.
“We have no current explanation on why the drop in UFO reports,” Powell said Friday afternoon. “One can speculate that people are seeing fewer UFOs or that they are just not reporting them.”

Powell pointed out the fact that mobile devices like tablets and smartphones recently overtook computers near the end of 2016.

"James Titcomb reporting for the Telegraph," Powell said, "reports that our mobile devices finally tipped the scale as far as how people are viewing and engaging with websites. The way people are viewing our UFO reporting document is now very challenging and must be upgraded to keep up with technology."

National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) Director Peter Davenport confirmed today that his witness database is experiencing the same drop.

"NUFORC averaged about 1,402 cases during the first quarters 2012 through 2016," Davenport said. "The first quarter 2017 is showing just 954 cases – about a 32 percent drop as well."

The two UFO databases often follow the same patterns.

“Peter and I have traded stats over the years,” reports MUFON Communications Director Roger Marsh. “If he calls and says he’s having a surge in reports in general, or with one particular shape, that wave is always mirrored in the MUFON database. While some people report into both databases, most reports are actually unique to the database. We’ve seen dips and highs in the past, and they usually run in two to three-month cycles.”

No one is ever quite sure why the rise and fall in UFO reports.

“There is a direct correlation between UFO television programming and UFO reporting,” MUFON Executive Director Jan C. Harzan said. “The shows apparently make people aware that they have a place to file a report. When one of our “Hangar 1” episodes is playing on the History channel – there is always an increase in reporting - although that surge does tend to be people recalling older cases.”

The top five reporting shapes in 2017 to date are Sphere (186), Star-like (106), Circle (100), Triangle (73) and Disc (64).

British Tabloids Jump On Reports Of Shape-Shifting UFOs

British Tabloids Jump On Reports Of Shape-Shifting UFOs

Reminder: Most UFO sightings are eventually explained away as natural or man-made objects.

The top row are screen grabs from a video taken in January 2017 of a reported UFO over Liverpool, UK. The bottom row shows a very similar reported UFO in March 2017 over Gloucester, UK.

If some British tabloids are to be believed, UFOs have been lighting up the British skies these days, as if the night skies were an immense Christmas tree.

As reported in The Express, “thousands of people across the globe are seeing mysterious shape-shifting UFO.”

Of course, an unidentified flying object typically turns out to be something other than an ET spacecraft once we take a closer look. In this instance, on March 12, Rob Wheatman, a resident of Gloucester,  captured an odd aerial phenomenon on video, as seen below.

“I saw it as a sparkling ‘star’ from the garden in Elmbridge, due south,” according to GloucesterLive. “What alerted me was an orange light that came from it and traveled at speed north east. I grabbed my video and luckily it has a 40x zoom and that’s when I got the images of the bizarre light you saw.”

While there doesn’t seem to be any outward appearance of fakery going on here, there tends to be an immediate attitude either on the part of individuals who offer alleged UFO videos or from media sources that have a tendency to stretch the idea of credulity with descriptions like “[t]his apparently intergalactic lightshow was filmed above Gloucester last night, and it’s got us, and the cameraman, baffled. What it shows is anyone’s guess...We’re pinning our money on aliens. Definitely aliens.”

Once again, let’s offer this reminder: The vast majority of UFO sightings are eventually explained as natural or man-made objects.

We consulted a photo analyst who was unimpressed with the sightings.

“In this Gloucester video, I noticed first that the object was not in focus. That’s why it looked like a diamond shape. This is a common appearance of out of focus objects with some cameras,” according to Marc D’Antonio, chief photo and video analyst for the Mutual UFO Network.

“In that video, the cameraman stated he was looking ‘due south.’ I believe that, due south at some point during the night, you will see Sirius, the brightest star in the northern sky. Because a star is ever only a point source, the slightest disturbance to the air between the camera and edge of the atmosphere in the direction being imaged will cause the image to dance around. This is called atmospheric scintillation,” D’Antonio told The Huffington Post.

In addition to his work as a video analyst, D’Antonio is CEO of FX Models, where he builds miniature versions of classified objects for his clients that include the U.S. Navy, Congress and the joint chiefs of staff. He knows a thing or two about things that are real, faked or simply misidentified.

HuffPost asked D’Antonio to look at another reported UK UFO video from January. This video begins with an object over Liverpool looking remarkably like the object in the first video above from Gloucester:

”In the second video, I noted that the object was out of focus at times. The cameraman stated that the object didn’t move, yet it absolutely did, moving over time from a position to the right and above a branch to a position just off the tip of that branch,” D’Antonio said.

“It had changed direction to reveal its nature ― it was an aircraft, landing lights on when it turned on final approach to a nearby airport. Landing lights can be seen up to 90 miles away and will persist for up to 4-5 minutes, then fade out as the aircraft makes its final turns. In my opinion, the first video showed an astronomical object ― likely Sirius ― and the second video showed a likely aircraft on landing approach.”

Incidentally, the objects in question in these two videos are quite similar to a diamond-shaped “UFO” videotaped in 2015 over another UK town, Tynemouth. In that case, it was determined that the object was, in fact, the bright star Sirius.

If you happen to spot something in the night sky that, at first, seems out-of-this-world and tempts you to consider that you’re lucky enough to witness visitors from far away, remember that you’re more than likely seeing something that is truly astronomical in nature.

The Mysterious Washington D.C. UFO Sightings

The Mysterious Washington D.C. UFO Sightings

DC UFO sightings

As hard as it is to imagine now, there was once a time when UFOs were given serious, front-page coverage in US national news, and when the Air Force would hold press conferences at the Pentagon to brief the public on what it knew.

All of this began to change after a highly-publicized pair of UFO sightings over the nation’s capitol in the summer of 1952.

NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION (NRC) DECLASSIFIED UFO FILES

NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION (NRC) DECLASSIFIED UFO FILES

Background

According to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC):

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) was created as an independent agency by Congress in 1974 to ensure the safe use of radioactive materials for beneficial civilian purposes while protecting people and the environment. The NRC regulates commercial nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear materials, such as in nuclear medicine, through licensing, inspection and enforcement of its requirements.

Over the years, many UFO reports have surfaced regarding unidentified craft being seen over sensitive nuclear installations. It only makes sense, that the NRC would be a prime target under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) for documents relating to the phenomena.

The documents were received relatively quickly. They were requested by The Black Vault on February 27, 2017, and were declassified and released to me on March 23, 2017.

Most surprising, there is new information never-before-seen within these records. It is revealed that a former security guard of the Cooper Nuclear Station witnessed a UFO sometime between the years 1986 and 1989. The report described the UFO encounter as the following:

While posted at the intake structure one night, he observed an “unidentified flying object” fly down the Missouri River about 150 feet in the air and hover in front of the intake. He observed it for a few moments and then contacted a fellow security officer who also observed it (he could not recall the individual’s name exactly but his first name was [REDACTED] and his last name was either [REDACTED ]. After they together observed the UFO, it turned and went back up the river and did not come back that shift. He and the other officer shared their observation with their peers who did not believe them.

The next evening he again was posted at the intake and observed the UFO return again. This time he didn’t call anyone until the UFO had traversed into the protected area and hovered above the protected area just north of the Reactor Building. He said it was roughly triangular in shape with a circle of rotating lights on the bottom. He could not hear any propulsion noise from the UFO. He believes that it was roughly 1/3 the size of the Reactor Building. Once the UFO hovered in the protected area. He called the security break room and most of the officers on shift observed the UFO.

Interestingly, after the report was taken by the NRC, the documents were compiled and sent to Cooper Nuclear Station in 2010. Although no formal response was requested, Cooper Nuclear Station was told only to tell employees there that were on a “need to know” basis.

The declassified records also include reports submitted by the public to the NRC about UFO activity, and even alien technology. The NRC gave the standard response to all of the letters sent in, that the NRC mission did not include the topics they were writing about.

The declassified documents can be seen below, in their entirety. They are unedited and appear exactly how they were received by The Black Vault from the NRC.

Exclusive full interview of former Arizona governor discussing his Phoenix Lights UFO sighting (Video)

Exclusive full interview of former Arizona governor discussing his Phoenix Lights UFO sighting (Video)

In 2006, former Arizona governor Fife Symington admitted to being a witness to Arizona’s most famous UFO sighting, and that he believed it to be of extraterrestrial origins. His statements made worldwide news. In association with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Phoenix Lights UFO event, James Fox, the documentarian that first obtained Symington’s confession shared never before seen footage from the interview during his presentation at the 2016 International UFO Congress. Now, with Fox’s permission, we present the interview here for our readers.

In the newly released footage, Symington says he believes the UFO sighting was escalated up the chain of command.

“Issues like this go up the chain of command all the way to the Pentagon,” explains Symington. “We called the Pentagon…I think they knew there had been sightings, but they weren’t talking about it.”

As for the official Air Force response that the UFOs were flares, Symington says that is “total bunk.”

“I have seen high altitude flares before. There is no way they were flares.”

When it comes to what flew over Phoenix in March of 1997, Symington says, “It has never been explained.”

What is now referred to as “The Phoenix Lights,” was a flap of UFO sightings on March 13, 1997. It has kept Arizona buzzing ever since. Over 1000 witnesses reportedly came forward, including former Arizona Governor Fife Symington.

Symington first admitted to seeing the object during this interview with Fox. Fox provided Symington with testimony from several witnesses who were disappointed with the way Symington dealt with the incident in 1997. Symington then admitted to Fox he had also seen the object, and he agreed it was unworldly. Fox was not expecting this response.

After the interview, news of Symington’s confession leaked and he was asked to share his experience with CNN and other news outlets.

Man in Manchester Captures ‘UFO’ Video

Man in Manchester Captures ‘UFO’ - Video

ENGLAND — A man in Manchester on Thursday presented a video containing an unidentified flying object.

Andy Dunni says he used his cellphone camera to capture the sighting.

The 3-minute video shows a white round light that appears to make maneuvers not yet known to human pilots.

Another UFO seems to show up seconds later, as the man taking the video tries to communicate with them.

“I have been seeing unexplainable stuff nowadays,” he says.

Just last week, another man in North West England reported seeing a transparent flying creature he dubbed as a “pegasus”.

The Manchester man claims he has had different sightings besides UFOs, such as orbs.

In July 2014, a Philadelphia Temple University professor said that aliens are already living in our planet and that they are forcing human women to raise their hybrid babies.

The same year, NASA wrote a book suggesting that aliens could have already visited Earth.

Bright lights, light-fingered aliens: all part of annual report on UFO sightings

THE CANADIAN PRESS

Bright lights, airplane near-misses and light-fingered aliens with a penchant for cool shades are all part of the annual report on UFO sightings in Canada.

The 2016 Canadian UFO Survey produced by Winnipeg-based Ufology Research was released this week. In total, there were 1,131 sightings of unidentified flying objects reported across Canada.

In a first for the 28 years the study has been conducted, only 4% of the sightings could not be explained. Study author Chris Rutkowski said that record-low rating is likely the result of more careful scrutiny of raw report information available.

Summer is the big time of year for UFO sightings and mostly they were simply lights that people saw in the sky.

The provinces with the largest populations had the most reports, so Quebec led the country with 38.5% of the sightings, while Ontario had 26% and British Columbia had 17%.

The most popular shape of UFO reported in 2016 was a simple point source of light (57%). Other shapes reported were triangle (four per cent), ball (nine per cent), cigar (three per cent) and fireball (five per cent). The classic “flying saucer” was only reported 48 times.

As for what the study calls “unknowns,” they included such cases as the “gigantic, disc-shaped object with searchlights” that was seen moving over the mountains in North Vancouver, and the boomerang-shaped “cluster of stars” that moved across the sky near St.

Not all close encouters are so dramatic, however. One person in Tecumseh, Ont., reported that an alien stole his sunglasses and belt, while someone from Rimouski, Que., filed a report which read simply: “They contacted me!”

BRAD HUNTER, TORONTO SUN

A light-fingered alien stole one man’s hat and sunglasses.

Another man reported he found himself in bathtub in a field “surrounded by three green, big-eyed humanoid creatures who communicated with him telepathically.”

Break out the tinfoil hats, the annual UFO report has landed.

The 2016 Canadian UFO Survey — produced by Winnipeg-based Ufology Research — was released this week. In total, there were 1,131 sightings of unidentified flying objects reported across Canada last year.

Study author Chris Rutkowski said for the first time in the 28 years the study has been conducted, just 4% of the sightings could not be explained.

He said the record-low is likely the result of more careful scrutiny of raw report information available.

In addition to the usual claims by astro-nuts, there was at least one legitimate unexplained encounter with the unknown.

There was also the commercial airplane over Toronto that had a near miss with an object while on a routine flight Nov. 14.

“The flight crew noticed an object directly ahead on their flight path. The object appeared to be solid, approximately five to eight feet in diameter and shaped like an upright doughnut or inner tube,” the study reported.

“Cabin crew members received minor injuries when evasive action was taken. While the object was not likely a balloon and was suggested to be a drone, it was noted that drones could not fly at that altitude and distance.”

The Transportation Safety Board ruled the incident as “a near collision with an unidentified airborne object.”

Among the study’s other findings:

- Summer is when most UFO sightings occur

- Quebec and Ontario had the most sightings, with 38.5% and 26% respectively

- the most popular shape for UFOs were a simple point source of light (57%)

But it’s the personal, er, encounters that top the weird scale, the study found.

A man in Cornwall, PEI, reported that a thin, six-foot-tall, long-fingered white alien in a black suit spoke to him in his bedroom before leaving by walking through a wall.

Someone from Rimouski, Que., filed a report which read simply: “They contacted me!”

NASA reveals the robotic ICEBOTS set to tunnel through the icy surface of Europa to hunt for alien life in its underground oceans

NASA reveals the robotic ICEBOTS set to tunnel through the icy surface of Europa to hunt for alien life in its underground oceans

  • NASA unveiled a team of robots that could make the trip to Europa in 10-15 years
  • Robots were designed to withstand cryogenic temperatures and rugged terrain
  • One can burrow miles into icy ground and another is a folding robotic arm
  • Another can remove ice pieces and the last one can gather samples 164ft away

Because Jupiter's moon, Europa, has oceans lying beneath its surface, it said to be one of the most likely places in the solar system for life to thrive – researchers just have to burrow through miles of ice to find out.

Now, NASA has unveiled a team of robotic prototypes equip with special tools to penetrate the frozen terrain and search for signs of living microbes.

The squad of 'icebots' includes a machine that tunnels through the icy surface, a folding boom arm, an ice gripping claw and a projectile launcher capable of grabbing samples up to 164 feet away.

NASA'S ICEBOTS

NASA has unveiled a set of robotic prototypes that it said could one day travel to Europa.

One prototype was inspired by so-called 'melt probes' used here on Earth – dubbed the ice-gripping claw.

A rotating saw blade on the bottom of the probe slowly turns and cuts through the ice.

The robot tosses the pieces back onto its body, where they melt due to the plutonium and pumped out behind it.

Researchers looked at the use of robotic arms, which are essential for reaching samples from landers or rovers.

The folding boom arm, when unfolded, extends almost 33 feet (10 meters).

For targets that are even farther away, a projectile launcher was developed that can fire a sampling mechanism up 164 feet (50 meters).

Also designed a rover with lightweight commercial wheels fixed to a rocker bogey suspension system.

Since 2015, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, has been developing new technologies for use on future missions to ocean worlds.

The new prototypes were created as part of the Ocean World's Mobility and Sensing study, a research project funded by NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate in Washington.

And each of the technologies are specifically designed to gather samples from and below the surface of an icy moon.

'In the future, we want to answer the question of whether there's life on the moons of the outer planets - on Europa, Enceladus and Titan,' said Tom Cwik, who leads JPL's Space Technology Program.

'We're working with NASA Headquarters to identify the specific systems we need to build now, so that in 10 or 15 years, they could be ready for a spacecraft.'

The team has conducted extensive research to understand the harsh elements these robotic helpers would face millions of miles away.

This includes temperate reaching hundreds of degrees below freezing and rovers crossing icy terrain that behaves like sand.

'Robotic systems would face cryogenic temperatures and rugged terrain and have to meet strict planetary protection requirements,' said Hari Nayar, who leads the robotics group that oversaw the research.

'One of the most exciting places we can go is deep into subsurface oceans - but doing so requires new technologies that don't exist yet.'

Now, NASA believes they are headed in the right direction with their latest set of robotic tools, which could one day make their way to Europa.

NASA tests robots that can drill through and collect ice

Brian Wilcox, an engineering fellow at JPL, designed a prototype inspired by so-called 'melt probes' used here on Earth - which the  team calls, ice gripping claw

These probes have been used to melt through snow and ice to explore subsurface regions since the late 1960s.

However, the machine's downfall is that it does not use heat efficiently.

Europa's crust could be 6.2 miles deep or it could be 12.4 miles deep (10 to 20 kilometers) and if a probe doesn't manage its energy, it would have to cool down until it stopped frozen in the ice.

The robot would toss the pieces off ice back onto its body, where they would be melted by the plutonium and pumped out behind it. Removing blocks of ice would ensure the probe drills at a steady pace through the ice without being blocked

But Wilcox believes he has solved the issue with a capsule insulated by vacuum - the same way a thermos bottle is insulated.

Instead of radiating heat outwards, it would retain energy from a chunk of heat-source plutonium as the probe sinks into the ice.

He suggested adding a rotating saw blade on the bottom of the probe, which would slowly turn and cut through the ice.

After deployment from a boom arm or a projectile launcher, the claw could anchor itself using heated prongs that melt into the ice and secure its grip. This ensures that a drill's bit is able to penetrate and collect a sample

OCEANS ON EUROP

A Hubble spotted giant plumes of water 125 miles high erupting from the surface of Jupiter's moon Europa, raising hopes it could hold life in a vast underground ocean engulfing the moon, NASA revealed last week.

Alien ocean: NASA's mission to find water on Europa
The new images 'indicate a global saline liquid water ocean engulfs the moon at the present time hidden under miles of ice,' NASA said.

It increases the possibility that missions to Europa may be able to sample Europa's ocean without having to drill through miles of ice.

The flyby is expected to help scientists map its composition and work out the makeup of its icy shell and ocean.

The space agency is now planning two meetings to discuss the Europa Lander report, which will take place on 19 March and 23 April.

The ice water could also be sampled and sent through a spool of aluminum tubing to a lander on the surface.

And once there, the water samples could be checked for biosignatures.

'We think there are glacier-like ice flows deep within Europa's frozen crust,' Wilcox said.

'Those flows churn up material from the ocean down below.'

'As this probe tunnels into the crust, it could be sampling waters that may contain biosignatures, if any exist.'

Researchers also looked at the use of robotic arms, which are essential for reaching samples from landers or rovers.

For targets that are even farther away, a projectile launcher (pictured)  was developed that can fire a sampling mechanism up 164 feet (50 meters). Both the arm and the launcher could be used in conjunction with an ice-gripping claw

On Mars, NASA's landers have never extended beyond 6.5 to 8 feet (2 to 2.5 meters) from their base.

And for a longer reach, you need to build a longer arm.

However, the JPL team though of using a folding boom arm, which when unfolded, extends almost 33 feet (10 meters).

For targets that are even farther away, a projectile launcher was developed that can fire a sampling mechanism up 164 feet (50 meters).

Both the arm and the launcher could be used in conjunction with an ice-gripping claw.

JUPITER'S ICY MOON EUROPA

Jupiter's icy moon Europa is slightly smaller than Earth's moon.

Europa orbits Jupiter every 3.5 days and is tidally locked - just like Earth's Moon - so that the same side of Europa faces Jupiter at all times.

Unlike on Earth, Europas ocean is deep enough to cover the whole surface and being far from the sun, the ocean surface is globally frozen over

Unlike on Earth, Europas ocean is deep enough to cover the whole surface and being far from the sun, the ocean surface is globally frozen over

It is thought to have an iron core, a rocky mantle and a surface ocean of salty water, like Earth.

Unlike on Earth, however, this ocean is deep enough to cover the whole surface of Europa, and being far from the sun, the ocean surface is globally frozen over.

Many experts believe the hidden ocean surrounding Europa, warmed by powerful tidal forces caused by Jupiter's gravity, may have conditions favorable for life.

This claw could someday have a coring drill attached to it and if scientists want pristine samples, they'll need to bore through up to eight inches (about 20 centimeters) of Europa's surface ice - which is thought to shield complex molecules from Jupiter's radiation.

After deployment from a boom arm or a projectile launcher, the claw could anchor itself using heated prongs that melt into the ice and secure its grip.

This ensures that a drill's bit is able to penetrate and collect a sample.

This coming July will mark a 20-year legacy of NASA rovers traveling across Martian desert.

And although it would see the agency has gained the experience in designing rovers for missions, building one for an icy moon is different from any others before.

Places like Saturn's moon Enceladus have fissures that blow out jets of gas and icy material from below the surface.

They'd be prime science targets, but the material around them is likely to be different than ice on Earth.

Instead, tests have found that granular ice in cryogenic and vacuum conditions behaves more like sand dunes, with loose grains that wheels can sink into.

JPL researchers turned to designs first proposed for crawling across the moon's surface.

AI SET TO FIND ALIENS

NASA has developed an AI that will be used to power submarine-like drones through extraterrestrial water worlds - specifically Jupiter's moon Europa.

The technology would let these unmanned machines plot their own course, based on what is detected in the water around them. During test, the fleet of drones showed it can seek out changes in temperature and salinity.

To plot their routes, forecasts of t hese ocean features were sent to the drones from shore. The drones also sensed how the ocean actively changed around them.

Experts believe the technology should be used to look for fissures in a planet's surface known as hydrothermal vents when it explores alien worlds.

Because these are found on ocean basins, he believes it is our best changes of finding a planet that can support life.

They tested lightweight commercial wheels fixed to a rocker bogey suspension system that has been used on a number of JPL-led missions.

Each of these prototypes and the experiments conducted with them were just starting points.

With the ocean worlds study complete, researchers will now consider whether these inventions can be further refined.

A second phase of development is being considered by NASA.

Those efforts could eventually produce the technologies that might fly on future missions to the outer solar system.
