Great Pyramid’s ‘Big Void’ May Be Important Construction Detail And Not New Chamber

The Great Pyramid of Giza continues to surprise experts every single day.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is considered the oldest and largest of the three main pyramids at the Giza Plateau and is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, and the only one that remains standing today.

Believed to have been built as a tomb over a 10- to 20-year period, the Great Pyramid of Giza is believed to have been completed around 2560 BC.

It was the tallest man-made structure on the surface of the planet for more than 3,800 years and was covered by white limestone that formed a smooth shiny surface.

Everything we know about the great pyramid is based on studies from different scholars that have researchers this ancient wonder of the world since time immemorial.

And while we know a great number of details about the structure, many other facts continue to elude experts.

Last years, the Great Pyramid of Giza made headlines after the ScanPyramids project, using muon tomography detected a massive, never-before-seen void inside the structure, located above the Pyramids So-called Grand Gallery.

It was a huge and exciting discovery, which raised new questions about the interior of the pyramid.

Is this the only secret chamber? Are there more? What was its purpose?

Dubbed by experts as the ‘Big Void’, it was the first chamber of this sort found since the 1800’s, but most importantly, it is considered the first and ONLY chamber of its type.

But is this mysterious area inside the pyramid really a hidden chamber? Or is there perhaps a different explanation?

According to Egyptologist, Dr. David Lightbody this mysterious chamber may not be a chamber after all.

Dr. Lightbody explains his theory in a recent study titled: “Is the Great Pyramid’s ‘Big Void’ in fact caused by two construction space zones flanking the Grand Gallery? Looking for plausible interpretations of the ScanPyramids data set.”

According to Dr. Lightbody, “Geometric calculations illustrated below… indicate that the new features on the scans which were interpreted as produced by a single ‘big’ void viewed from two directions, located 40m out towards the north face of the structure, could in fact have been produced by two smaller void zones closer to the center of the pyramid, one on either side of the Grand Gallery structure. Due to the offsets of the two Nagoya nuclear emulsion detection plates from the center line of the Grand Gallery, which were of a similar magnitude (NE2 – 4 m west, and NE1 – 5.5 m east of the N-S center line), and the inward slope of the sides of the Grand Gallery structure, only one such void zone would be clearly visible on each Nagoya scan.”

“On one side the small voids would be aligned with the detector and would form a zone that was almost a continuous void directed at the plate. On the other hand, the opposing void zone signals would not align with the detector and so the effect of the signals would not be cumulative. In addition, most of them would be hidden behind the signal of the main gallery structure.”

It’s noteworthy to mention that Dr. Lightbody has proposed just another theory and does not directly claim to have disproven the original explanation as to what the mysterious void is.

He offers an alternative view on the original find.

According to Dr. Lightbody, the ‘Big Void’ inside the pyramid revolves around a structural problem intrinsic to the pyramid’s construction.

As noted by the expert, the Grand Gallery slopes upwards at a steep angle, and it’s extremely difficult to cut blocks with two inclined faces while properly securing them in an unfinished structure.

So how could the ancient builders have resolved this issue? One way is to leave ‘voids’ inside the Great Pyramid.

The ancient builders of the Pyramid may have poured either sand or some kind of mortar inside the voids, and this material most likely was not picked up during the Moun tomography, which is why it appears as an empty space.

Dr. Lightbody argues that certain structures inside the Pyramid, like the Great Gallery and the King’s Chamber, may have been designed by the ancient architects as self-supporting structures, created outside the pyramid, before being transported and eventually assembled within the Pyramid.

If this is the case, then we could explain the existence of voids as artifacts of the Pyramids assembly process, and not empty chambers.

Dr. Lightbody concludes that “The Scan Pyramids project must be applauded for their progress so far, and more experimental work of this type is required at Giza. Ultimately, however, the priority should be to understand the structures from the point of view of the ancient Egyptian builders and architects who created them.”

The latest star map from the Gaia spacecraft plots 1.7 billion stars

Measurements also include half a million quasars and 14,099 known solar system objects

YOU ARE HERE  The most precise all-sky map of the Milky Way  was released by the Gaia space telescope team on April 25. It shows the total brightness and color of nearly 1.7 billion stars and a few neighboring galaxies (bright spots to the lower right of the main disk).

Using the precise position and brightness of almost 1.7 billion stars, the Gaia spacecraft has created the most precise 3-D map of the Milky Way yet.

On April 25, the European Space Agency’s Gaia team released the spacecraft’s second batch of data, gathered from July 2014 to May 2016, used to create the map. The tally includes measurements of half a million quasars — the active black holes at the centers of distant galaxies — and 14,099 known solar system objects (mostly asteroids), observations of other nearby galaxies and the amount of dust in between Earth and 87 million stars (SN: 4/14/18, p. 27).

The spacecraft also measures the distances and motions of stars by taking advantage of Earth’s motion around the sun, a technique called parallax. As Earth moves, stars appear to trace a small ellipse, whose size is related to the stars’ distance. Measuring the wavelengths of light the stars emit tells how fast they are moving toward or away from the sun. Combining Gaia’s measurements with earlier sky surveys let astronomers track stars’ motions.

Gaia launched in 2013, and released its first batch of data in September 2016 (SN: 10/15/16, p. 16). Those data included distances and motions of roughly 2 million stars; the new data up that number to 1.3 billion.

Knowing those distances will allow astronomers to decipher details about the Milky Way’s shape and history. Already the second data release suggests that the galaxy contains two distinct populations of stars that may have different origins. The stars’ chemistry and motions suggest that some could have originated in a different galaxy that the Milky Way cannibalized long ago.

“With Gaia, we can reconstruct the whole history of the Milky Way,” ESA science director Günther Hasinger said in a news conference April 25.

One could be forgiven for describing the mint's newest coin as rather otherworldly.

The Royal Canadian Mint's newest offering features Manitoba's most famous UFO encounter, which happened in 1967 when Stefan Michalak went looking for precious metals near Falcon Lake.

"I was very surprised, frankly. They called me out of the blue and said 'I have this idea,'" said Stefan's son, Stan Michalak. 

"It's not every day the mint calls and says, 'Hey, we're going to do a coin.'"

Stefan, whom his son says was a "rock nut," was searching for gold, silver and other precious metals and gems in Whiteshell Provincial Park one May long weekend in 1967. At about noon, two craft appeared in the sky, he said, and one landed about 50 metres away from Stefan on a flat rocky area.

The other craft left, but the first stayed, said Stefan. He observed it from the bush for about half an hour before approaching it.

"In his mind, he reasoned, 'This must be some sort of a military experimental craft. They've landed here by mistake or maybe out of need. Maybe they're in trouble,'" said Stan. "'I'll offer to help them out.'"

When Stefan approached the craft, which he later described as saucer-shaped and made of a stainless steel material, he touched it and the heat melted the fingertips of his heavy gloves. There was an opening he put his head through, said Stan, but he didn't enter.

The craft then expelled a cloud of gas and lifted off, knocking Stefan off his feet, setting his shirt aflame and leaving a distinct pattern of burns on his chest.

There will be only 4,000 of the collectors coins minted.

The coin shows the moment the craft lifted from the rock, with a figure lying on the ground with a hand in the air, as if to ward something off. In the dark, the craft on the coin glows, as does the gas coming from the ship.

The coin is ovoid and uses more colours than traditionally found in a coin, said Stan.

"They sent me a proof that had their original thought, which was kind of cute," said Stan. "Originally, it was going to have alien eyes on it, so it looked like the shape of an alien head."

Erica Maga, product manager for the coin, said the idea came to the team during their annual research.

"We thought it was such an interesting story that it was one that we had to share with Canadians," said Maga. "Everyone is sort of fascinated by this subject matter and we thought it would make a really interesting coin design."

The coin has been in production for a few months but went on sale Monday, said Maga. The coin's egg shape, while unusual, was also used for coins with a hot air balloon and featuring Ukranian pysanka.

Maga confirmed one of the earliest designs featured glow-in-the-dark alien eyes.

"We had talked around a lot of really wacky ideas and interesting concepts for this one, but in the end, we wanted to try and stay as faithful and true to the story as we could."

Despite the Manitoba connection, the coin is being minted in Ottawa instead of Winnipeg, said Alex Reeves, external communications advisor for The Mint. The Winnipeg facility does currency coins, while the Ottawa facility specializes in collector coins.

Stan, who co-wrote a book about his father's encounter, said he hopes the coin helps end his family's saga.

"We just decided to put this to rest, and I think the mint, giving me a call and saying 'We have this idea,' I think it just puts the ribbon on the box to finally close it forever."

Could Aliens Have Experienced or Understand The Big Bang Differently Then Us?

With the full force of infinite combinations and diversity that surely exists in the Universe. Could other alien life forms experienced or observed the Universe’s creation differently than we do? Could a sentient mind based on elements and events from a completely independent evolutionary lineage see the creation of the Universe differently? I don’t mean in more detail or complexity (as more advanced minds tend to do) but as a completely different phenomenon? Could there be competing theoretical entries in the Encyclopedia Galactica?

There are no competing theories with the Big Bang Theory because there is no such thing as the Big Bang Theory (other than the pop culture television show, that is.)

The discipline is called physical cosmology. Its theoretical foundations include general relativity and the standard model of particle physics, and additional assumptions about the conditions in the very early universe and about additional, yet-to-be-discovered fields that may have played a role, especially in the very early universe (e.g., during inflation).

As to the Big Bang itself: the idea that the early universe was hot and dense is no longer really subject to debate. The reason is that it is no longer a far-fetched conjecture supported only by the luminosity-redshift relationship (Hubble relationship) of distant objects. We now have direct observational evidence of very early galaxies, the composition of which is very different from galaxies of the present day: they contain virtually no heavy elements, for instance. We also have very detailed maps of the cosmic microwave background, which provide very specific constraints on the evolution of the universe. In particular, the so-called concordance or CDM model of cosmology actually predicted the shape of the curve that characterizes temperature fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background; these predictions were confirmed.

Now it is a good question if the early, dense phase of the universe really marked the beginning of it all (initial singularity) or if there was a prior state, e.g., a universe that contracted before it “bounced” back and started expanding again. Such bounce models are frequently proposed, though they are not without issues and shortcomings. There is also the concept of eternal inflation, in which our “pocket” of the universe (a “pocket” that is much larger than the observable universe, but still just a “pocket” in the big scheme of things) is just one region of something much larger, a universe in which rapid expansion (inflation) takes place all the time, forming pockets like ours, in a never-ending process.

And there are many other possibilities. The existence of dark matter, a core concept in the concordance model (CDM stands for Cold Dark Matter), is questioned by those who attempt to attribute the same effects that dark matter is supposed to explain to modifications of Einstein’s gravity instead. The acceleration of the universe, deduced from the luminosity-distance relationship of Type Ia supernovae, is questioned by those who attribute these observations to large-scale inhomogeneities in our universe (so-called “void cosmology” models.) And so on.

Physical cosmology is still a young science, and there are many unknowns (which makes it all the more exciting). Not even the most ardent advocates of the concordance model suggest that it is the last word on the topic. There are many alternatives. But there are a few things we (think we) know already, and the idea that the early universe was hot and dense is one of them.

This wasn’t always so. Before the observational discovery of the cosmic microwave background, there was another widely favored model: steady-state cosmology, in which the expansion of the universe is balanced by the continuous, spontaneous creation of matter so that on the largest of scales, the universe is eternal and unchanging. One of the best-known advocates of steady state cosmology was Sir Fred Hoyle, who, incidentally, was also the person who coined the term, “Big Bang”, when he ridiculed Big Bang cosmology on a BBC radio show. The Hubble redshift also had an explanation in the form of “tired light”, the idea that over cosmic distances, photons lose energy, e.g., by interacting with the intergalactic medium. These alternatives have since been discredited by data; as I mentioned, very little doubt exists that the early universe was in a hot and dense state, which is what the Big Bang is all about.

It is in the truth of science and shared experienced that understanding and a common ground can be found between us and the sentient unknown. We and alien life will be more different than we can imagine. At least we can appreciate and understand (in our own degree) some of the same things.

Despite their violent impacts, asteroids could still deposit water on Earth

Brown University researchers found new evidence that asteroids could have brought water to Earth — and they could also bring it to other planets.

In an effort to understand how the blue planet got all its blue (water), researchers at Brown University have turned to NASA and one of its biggest gun rooms.

Their what now?

Exactly how planets got all their water is still open to debate. Compounding the problem is the fact that traces of water were also found in comparatively dry places, such as the Moon’s mantle — dismissing ‘that’s just how the Earth rolls’ as a valid explanation. One possible explanation is that asteroids brought all this water here in the planet’s early days.

However, this theory never fared that well in the face of computer simulations.

“Impact models tell us that [asteroids] should completely devolatilize at many of the impact speeds common in the solar system, meaning all the water they contain just boils off in the heat of the impact,” says study co-author Peter Schultz, a professor in Brown’s Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences, said in a statement.

“But nature has a tendency to be more interesting than our models, which is why we need to do experiments.”

In order to test the validity of this claim with as little computer simulations as possible, the team asked NASA for permission to use their Vertical Gun Range, housed at the Ames Research Center in California. The indoor ballistic facility was built during the 1960s when, NASA needed to see what happens during high-speed cosmic collisions, without having the luxury of powerful computers.

In lieu of real asteroids, the team used marble-sized cylinders of antigorite, a green mineral common in the oceanic crust that contains some 13% water by weight. A tray of dried, powdered pumice stone was used as a target, to simulate the loose layer of dusty minerals covering Earth’s bedrock, according to the authors. A plastic-lined well was affixed beneath this tray to capture the debris left by the simulated asteroid impact.

The team performed several trials, shooting the fake asteroids into the fake Earth at speeds in excess of 11,200 mph, which they write is “comparable to the median impact speed” in the asteroid belt. They report that on impact, some of the pumice stone melted, then quickly re-solidified, forming glass. Pieces of antigorite also got mixed in with the powder and formed breccia, a type of rock formed when bits of preexisting material get cemented together.

The surprising bit, however, was the water content in the debris. Lab analyses revealed that up to 30% of the mock asteroid’s water found its way into the debris left over in the tray — much more than models suggested was possible up to now. The findings lend weight to the theory that asteroids could have brought water to Earth from the depths of the universe.

“These new experiments raise the possibility that growing terrestrial planets trap water in their interiors as they grow,” the researchers wrote.

That being said, there is also evidence in support of Earth generating its own water, through geological processes. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle, but at this point, we can’t say for sure.

HOW A PASSING STAR 70,000 YEARS AGO CHANGED THE SOLAR SYSTEM

• Another star buzzed the solar system 70,000 years ago and may have sent comets hurtling our way.
• It is possible our prehistoric ancestors saw the star in the sky.
  
• A new study also ID’ed eight objects that could have come from beyond our solar system.

About 70,000 years ago, around the time our ancestors were just beginning to leave Africa, a small red dwarf star passed remarkably close to the solar system. Scholz’s star came within a light-year of the sun, the closest such encounter we know of. Today, Scholz’s star sits about 20 light-years away, its stellar flyby a distant memory. But we are still seeing the influence of its visit.

Back in 2015, researchers led by Eric Mamajek, professor of astronomy and physics at the University of Rochester, studied the galactic orbits of Scholz’s star and our sun. They discovered that Scholz’s star and its brown dwarf binary companion probably wandered close to our solar system. At the time, the scientists concluded that Scholz’s star did not disturb the orbits of any objects in the solar system in any notable way when it passed by.

However, a new study in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society suggests this stellar flyby did in fact nudge comets from the Oort cloud, the ring of icy objects far beyond the planets that marks the edge of the solar system. These comets are now close enough to study in more detail, and while looking for them, the scientists also found eight objects that could be from outside the solar system entirely.

Comets From a 70,000-Year-Old Star Flyby

The Oort cloud is a swarm of cometary bodies believed to be between 5,000 and 100,000 AU from the sun. Occasionally, these objects fall toward the sun, and some gain enough velocity to reach so-called hyperbolic orbits. These trajectories will eventually take them out of the solar system—unless they are influenced by another gravitational encounter with a giant planet, for example.

The new study, conducted by researchers at the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Cambridge, analyzed the positions and velocities of 339 hyperbolic objects in the solar system. Normally, you’d expect the distribution of these objects across the sky to be more or less even. However, a group of them seem to be coming from the same radiant, or point of origin in the sky, and that area aligns with the encounter with Scholz’s star. Any objects that might have been pushed by Scholz’s star 70,000 years ago would only now be approaching the inner solar system.

“Out of those 339 [objects], 36 appear projected towards the relevant region in the constellation of Gemini (about 11 percent),” lead author Carlos de la Fuente Marcos of Complutense University of Madrid told Popular Mechanics in an email. “These are the ones that we suggest may have had an origin in the flyby with Scholz’s star.”

The researchers also found the suspect comets are traveling at a velocity around 1 km/s, or 2,200 mph, which could point to an “impulsive interaction” such as a stellar encounter. “Some of them were sent outwards and away from the solar system… some others were sent inwards and reached the inner solar system,” Marcos says. “Out of those sent inwards, a fraction passed close enough to the Earth to be detected by ongoing surveys. Most of the 36 objects pointed out above may fall into this category, the others may be chance alignments.”

The study identifies an exciting connection between these comets and the estimated location of the Scholz’s star flyby, but to truly confirm that the hyperbolic objects were pushed by that star in prehistoric times, additional modelling of both the comets and the star will be needed. By analyzing the 339 hyperbolic objects, however, the team turned up another tantalizing find—possible interstellar objects.

New Interstellar Suspects

In addition to the comets that could have been hurled in by Scholz’s star, the study found eight objects that may be new interstellar candidates. The only confirmed object from outside the solar system to visit our neighborhood of planets is ‘Oumuamua, an elongated asteroid that made a close pass to Earth in October 2017. These additional eight objects are icy hyperbolic bodies with a velocity of 1.5 km/s or more, suggesting they could be interstellar comets.

“Statistically speaking, their paths are probably interstellar as their inbound velocities were significantly higher than those of the bulk of the other hyperbolic comets [2 to 30 times higher],” says Marcos. “As far as we can tell, the eight candidates to being interstellar interlopers have been singled out in our work for the first time.”

It’s unlikely that all eight of these objects have interstellar origins, as some may have formed in the solar system and accelerated during encounters with large objects. “I do think that the 1.5 km/s they used as a cut-off is probably a bit low, so I suspect that some of the eight candidates they identify are not true interstellar objects,” says Alan Jackson, a postdoc researcher at the Centre for Planetary Sciences at the University of Toronto who recently published a study that suggests ‘Oumuamua likely came from a binary star system. “The two that they identify as their best candidates, C/2008 J4 (McNaught) and C/2012 S1 (ISON), are I think fairly robust.”

If any of these objects are confirmed as interstellar interlopers, it would provide an icy comet from beyond the solar system to study alongside the rocky asteroid ‘Oumuamua, which turned out to be an object unlike anything astronomers had ever seen. Most astronomers believe interstellar objects fly through the solar system regularly, and our telescope survey projects are advancing toward the point of finding them much more frequently.

Red Star in the Ancient Sky

When the red dwarf star and its brown dwarf companion flew by the outer reaches of the solar system, it is possible that humanity’s ancestors saw the star in the sky.

Scholz’s star was almost certainly not visible generally, but red dwarfs can periodically flare up due to magnetic activity and grow many times brighter than their standard magnitude. The dimmest stars humans can see with the naked eye have an apparent magnitude (intrinsic magnitude modified by distance) of about 6 (lower numbers are brighter). If Scholz’s star was on the farther end of estimates, it would have had an apparent magnitude of about 11, and closer in an apparent magnitude of perhaps 7.9.

Even at the greater distances, “those flares could be visible to human eyes without optical aids,” says Marcos. (However, Marcos stresses that whether or not the star was visible to human ancestors is not discussed in the paper.)

It is tempting to imagine that prehistoric humans looked up one night to catch a glimpse of Scholz’s star flaring up in the sky. Perhaps they considered it a sign of a bountiful hunt, or an omen of doom. Seventy thousand years later, equipped with all the advantages of modern science, we may have found new evidence of Scholz’s visit to the solar system, the most distant comets of the Oort cloud in for a closer look.

INTERSTELLAR VISITOR ’OUMUAMUA PROBABLY CAME FROM A TWO-STAR SYSTEM

Astronomers are now certain that the mysterious object detected hurtling past our sun last month is indeed from another solar system. They have named it 1I/2017 U1(’Oumuamua) and believe it could be one of 10,000 others lurking undetected in our cosmic neighbourhood.

The certainty of its interstellar origin comes from an analysis that shows its orbit is almost impossible to achieve from within our solar system.

Its name comes from a Hawaiian term for messenger or scout. Indeed, it is the first space rock to have been identified as forming around another star. Since asteroids coalesce during the process of planet formation, this object can tell us something about the formation of planets around its unknown parent star.

The latest analyses with ground-based telescopes show that ’Oumuamua is quite similar to some comets and asteroids in our own solar system. This is important because it suggests that planetary compositions like ours could be typical across the galaxy.

It is thought to be an extremely dark object, absorbing 96% of the light that falls on its surface, and it is red. This colour is the hallmark of organic (carbon-based) molecules. Organic molecules are the building blocks of the biological molecules that allow life to function.

It is widely thought that the delivery of organic molecules to the early Earth by the collision of comets and asteroids made life here possible. ’Oumuamua shows that the same could be possible in other solar systems.

Its characteristics have been published by two independent groups of astronomers. The first group, led by Karen Meech, University of Hawaii, also found that ’Oumuamua was extremely elongated and roughly 400 metres long. Using the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope(VLT) they also found that it rotated once every 7.3 hours.

The other group of astronomers, led by David Jewitt, University of California Los Angeles, estimated how many other interstellar visitors like it there might be in our solar system.

Surprisingly, they calculate that another 10,000 could be closer to the sun than the eighth planet, Neptune, which lies 30 times further from the sun than the Earth. Yet these are currently undetected.

Each of these interstellar interlopers would be just passing through. They are travelling too fast to be captured by the gravity of the sun. Yet it still takes them about a decade to cross our solar system and disappear back into interstellar space.

If this estimate is correct, then roughly 1,000 enter and another 1,000 leave every year – which means that roughly three arrive and three leave every day.

Using robotic telescopes such as Pan-STARRS, the one that detected ’Oumuamua, to look for asteroids is a priority for astronomers as they concentrate on discovering potentially hazardous objects that could impact Earth.

Imminent upgrades to these survey telescopes and improvements in data processing techniques mean that astronomers will soon be able to detect smaller and fainter objects. They expect a number of these to be interstellar interlopers like ’Oumuamua.

What If Earth Started Spinning Backward?

During Earth's yearlong orbit around the sun, our planet completes a full rotation on its axis — which runs from the North Pole to South Pole — every 24 hours, spinning at a rate of about 1,040 mph (1,670 km/h) as measured at the equator. Its rotation direction is prograde, or west to east, which appears counterclockwise when viewed from above the North Pole, and it is common to all the planets in our solar system except Venus and Uranus, according to NASA.

As Earth rotates, the push and pull of its momentum shapes ocean currents, which, along with atmospheric wind flows, produces a range of climate patterns around the globe. These patterns carry abundant rainfall to humid jungles or divert moisture away from rain-parched badlands, for example.

Going retro

To study how Earth's climate system is affected by its rotation, scientists recently modeled a digital version of Earth spinning in the opposite direction — clockwise when viewed from above the North Pole, a direction known as retrograde, Florian Ziemen, co-creator of the simulation and a researcher with the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Germany, told Live Science in an email.

"[Reversing Earth's rotation] preserves all major characteristics of the topography like sizes, shapes and positions of continents and oceans, while creating a completely different set of conditions for the interactions between the circulation and the topography," Ziemen said.

This new rotation set the stage for ocean currents and winds to interact with the continents in different ways, generating entirely new climate conditions around the world, the researchers reported in a project overview.

Spin cycle

To simulate what would happen if Earth were to spin backward (retrograde instead of prograde), they used the Max Planck Institute Earth System Model to change Earth's relationship to the sun and reverse the Coriolis effect, an invisible force that pushes against objects traveling over a rotating planet's surface.

Once those alterations were in place and the model showed Earth spinning in the opposite direction, the researchers observed the changes that emerged in the climate system over several thousand years, as feedback among the rotation, atmosphere and ocean went to work on the planet, the scientists wrote in a description of the work, which they are currently preparing for publication.

Overall, the researchers found that a backward-spinning Earth was a greener Earth. Global desert coverage shrank from about 16 million square miles (42 million square kilometers) to around 12 million square miles (31 million square km). Grasses sprouted over half of the former desert areas, and woody plants emerged to cover the other half. And this world's vegetation stored more carbon than our forward-spinning Earth, the researchers discovered.

However, deserts emerged where they never had before — in the southeastern U.S., southern Brazil and Argentina, and northern China.

Turn, turn, turn

The change in rotation also reversed global wind patterns, bringing temperature changes to the subtropics and midlatitudes; continents' western zones cooled as eastern boundaries warmed, and winters became significantly colder in northwestern Europe. Ocean currents also changed direction, warming seas' eastern boundaries and cooling their western ones.

In the simulation, AMOC— the ocean current responsible for transporting heat around the globe — disappeared from the Atlantic Ocean, but a similar and slightly stronger current arose in the Pacific, carrying heat into eastern Russia. This was somewhat unusual, as a prior study that modeled a reverse-spinning Earth did not see this change, Ziemen told Live Science in an email.

"But as the AMOC is the result of many complex interactions in the climate system, there can be a lot of reasons for this difference," he said. [Earth Pictures: Iconic Images of Earth from Space]

Altered sea currents in the Indian Ocean also allowed cyanobacteria to dominate the region, which they have never managed to accomplish while the Earth spins in its current direction, the researchers discovered.

But for Ziemen, the greening of the Sahara was the most intriguing change that appeared in their "backward" model of Earth.

"Seeing the green Sahara in our model got me thinking about the reasons why we have a desert in the Sahara, and why there is none in the retrograde world," Ziemen said. "It is this thinking about the most basic questions that fascinates me about the project."

These balloons were propelled into the upper reaches of the atmosphere and collected material from the stratosphere. The balloons then returned to Earth where they were analysed by the team. In addition to a number of bacterial organisms which are commonly found on this planet, the team also uncovered three different types of bacteria which do not match any known organism on Earth.

“Detection of extraterrestrial bacteria highlights the possibility of life beyond earth and it is good news for humanity,”

said Professor R. K. Chaudhury of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics speaking of the findings. Professor Narlikar was similarly buoyant when announcing the findings of his study which suggests that the building blocks for life are present elsewhere in the universe.

“With modern technological advancement, we will be able to provide conclusive evidence for the presence of life outside the confines of the earth in the near future", he said.

The fascinating research has been praised not only for its wide implications but also because of it is hoped that it will boost the profile of the Indian space agencies which have typically been marginalized in comparison to bodies such as NASA and the ESO. “With these findings, Indian study in the field of extraterrestrial investigations can be said to have reached a competitive stage in the global arena. There is a dedicated group in India that is working towards the targets of extraterrestrial studies, we are hopeful of more results in the future, "said Professor Chaudhury.

Bam! Cannon Experiment Shows How Asteroids Delivered Water to Earth

"The origin and transportation of water and volatiles is one of the big questions in planetary science," said Terik Daly, who's now a postdoctoral researcher at Johns Hopkins University but led the study while completing his doctorate at Brown University. 

"These experiments reveal a mechanism by which asteroids could deliver water to moons, planets and other asteroids," Daly said in a statement.

Astronomers originally thought that Earth's water came mostly from comets. However, recent research has pegged asteroids as the probable main delivery system. Measurements have shown that water found on Earth has a similar composition of isotopes — variants of the same chemical element that differ in the number of neutrons — as water contained in carbonaceous asteroids. 

But it wasn't clear how those asteroids could have delivered their water to what was once a completely arid Earth. 

"Impact models tell us that impactors should completely devolatilize at many of the impact speeds common in the solar system, meaning all the water they contain just boils off in the heat of the impact," study co-author Peter Schultz, a professor in Brown's Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences, said in the same statement. "But nature has a tendency to be more interesting than our models, which is why we need to do experiments."

When the researchers shot their mini-meteorites at the mini-Earths, they observed that a significant proportion of the water from the projectiles got trapped in rock — both in the stuff that was melted by the heat of the impact and in the material that coalesced from the jumble of impact debris, a type of rock known as a breccia.  

"What we're suggesting is that the water vapor gets ingested into the melts and breccias as they form," Schultz said. "So even though the impactor loses its water, some of it is recaptured as the melt rapidly quenches."

The researchers said the process could also explain the presence of water in the lunar mantle and some other areas of the moon, such as Tycho Crater. 

"The point is that this gives us a mechanism for how water can stick around after these asteroid impacts," Schultz said. "And it shows why experiments are so important, because this is something that models have missed."

The findings could explain how asteroids deliver water throughout the solar system, helping to account for traces of water spotted on the moon and other planetary bodies

DE WAARHEID BRENGEN OVER UFO'S WORDT STEEDS GEVAARLIJKER

Achter de schermen zijn geheime krachten aan het werk om díegenen die voor de machthebbers onwelgevallige zaken naar buiten brengen, keihard aan te pakken. 

Welke belangen er voor hen op het spel staan, wordt duidelijk wanneer je ziet hoever ze bereid zijn te gaan om de waarheid verborgen te houden. 

Natuurlijk zijn er heel veel zaken die de werkelijke machthebbers graag verborgen houden en het is zo langzamerhand een bekend feit dat ook overheden zich actief bemoeien met wat er op het internet gebeurd en daar zelfs op een heel geniepige manier actief zijn.

Er zijn overheidsdienaren in zo goed als alle landen die niets anders doen dan opzettelijk zaken vertroebelen, twijfel en tweedracht zaaien en er meer in het algemeen voor zorgen dat degene die de onwelgevallige waarheid brengt belachelijk wordt gemaakt of als volkomen overkomt. 

Via uitgelekte NSA documenten is nu ook precies bekend wat de opdrachten zijn die deze zogenaamde internettrollen mee krijgen.

Het door overheden inzetten van trollen gebeurt overal en die van ons plaatste zelf enkele jaren geleden een advertentie voor het werven van dergelijke trollen, iets waar door de Partij van de Dieren destijds nog kamervragen over zijn gesteld, waarop zoals gebruikelijk ontwijkende en nietszeggende antwoorden kwamen. 

Wij hebben enkele jaren geleden een complete handleiding voor trollen gepubliceerd en daarin zie je precies hoe ze te werk gaan en hoe je ze in de praktijk ook beter kunt herkennen. 

Het trollen op internet is één ding, maar het gaat nog veel verder en dan wordt het regelrecht eng voor degene die de waarheid naar buiten durft te brengen. 

Iemand die dat doet met veel succes op het gebied van vreemde zaken en veelal ook UFO gerelateerde onderwerpen is een jongeman die bekendstaat onder de naam Tyler en een heel succesvol Youtube kanaal exploiteert onder de naam Secure Team. Wij gebruiken regelmatig zijn bevindingen in artikelen.

Tot niet zo gek lang geleden had hij een mijlpaal bereikt en werd de grens van een miljoen abonnees overschreden en wanneer je nu kijkt, zit hij al boven de anderhalf miljoen. 

Tyler krijgt via zijn abonnees veel informatie en beelden binnen en heeft ongetwijfeld via zijn kanaal veel UFO gerelateerde zaken gepubliceerd waarvan de machthebbers niet willen dat gewone burgers die zien. 

Vorig jaar september gebeurden er een aantal vreemde zaken bij Tyler thuis en na een “ongeluk” met zijn motor eindigde hij in het ziekenhuis, waar we toen het volgende over schreven.

Uiteraard loop je dan ook aardig in de kijker bij overheden en dan vooral een bepaald deel daarvan, sinistere mannen in donkere pakken die dan ook Men in Black (MIB), worden genoemd. 

Wij willen iedereen aanraden om even de tijd te nemen om te kijken naar de volgende video die Tyler ongeveer een maand geleden maakte toen er dagenlang een vreemde auto naast zijn huis stond die hem met gierende banden achtervolgde toen hij op zijn motor wegreed. 

De volgende video is van nu, een maand later en opgenomen afgelopen donderdag in het ziekenhuis waar Tyler ligt met talloze gebroken botten na een motorongeluk. 

Hij zegt verder niets over hoe het ongeluk heeft kunnen gebeuren, maar gezien de gebeurtenissen rondom zijn huis de afgelopen maand, is het aannemelijk dat die Men in Black verantwoordelijk zijn voor het feit dat een jonge onderzoeker nu met gebroken botten in het ziekenhuis ligt. Hij belooft in de video dat zodra hij beter is terug aan het werk te zullen gaan.

Inmiddels is hij weer min of meer hersteld en weer iedere dag bezig met zijn kanaal en het publiceren van UFO gerelateerde zaken. Wat hij nu echter merkt, is dat er steeds meer trollen actief worden in de commentaar sectie van zijn Youtube kanaal.

Op zich is dat ook te verwachten, maar dan wordt er door iemand het volgende commentaar geplaatst.

Een duidelijk trollen account dat kort daarvoor is aangemaakt, maar waar de koude rillingen je pas écht van over de rug lopen is het feit dat in het commentaar ene Dr. Asher wordt genoemd. 

Dr. Asher was niet de behandelend arts in het ziekenhuis waar Tyler na zijn motorongeluk terechtkwam, maar de chirurg die de operatie uitvoerde en die met schroeven een stalen pin aan zijn been heeft gemonteerd. 

Deze informatie heeft Tyler nóóit met iemand gedeeld, heeft nooit ergens ook op internet gestaan en hij was zelf alweer bijna de naam van die chirurg vergeten. 

Ook trollen maken fouten, maar wat hier wel uit blijkt is dat ze in de achtergrond Tyler bespioneren, al zijn bewegingen in de gaten houden en beschikken over al zijn privé informatie. 

Het kanaal van Tyler groeit als kool, hij krijgt steeds meer de beschikking over spectaculair en verborgen beeldmateriaal via zijn abonnees.

De enige vraag die nog open staat is: Hoe lang nog voordat Tyler weer “een ongeluk” krijgt. En waar normaal toch wel ongeveer iedere dag nieuwe video's van Tyler verschenen, is de navolgende van enkele dagen geleden op het moment van schrijven, de laatste.

BIJZONDERE WAARNEMINGEN BOVEN ENGELAND

Het is enige tijd vrij rustig geweest op het gebied van onbekende vliegende voorwerpen in de lucht, maar nu lijken ze weer helemaal terug. 

Van een man die wandelt en een klassieke retro UFO weet vast te leggen, tot een stel dat tot hun stomme verbazing een moederschip filmt boven de zee met een kleinere verkenner. 

De foto’s die hierna volgen zijn genomen door een man in het Engelse Newton Abbott in Devon. Deze streek van Engeland staat sowieso al bekend als een UFO hotspot, dus ter plaatse kun je dingen verwachten.

De man die de foto’s gemaakt heeft zegt dat hij naar de lucht keek en iets snel op hem af zag komen. Hij gebruikte een Nikon P900 camera en zag al snel iets dat veel lijkt op het klassieke model UFO, oftewel de retro UFO met de herkenbare vliegende schotelvorm. 

De UFO had volgens de man een enorme snelheid, was behoorlijk hoog in lucht en vloog via het stadscentrum weer uit het zicht. Deze waarneming is aangemeld bij Mufon onder zaak nummer 91544 en de man in kwestie zegt vol ongeduld uit te kijken naar een volgende waarneming en ook dat hij in dat bepaalde gebied regelmatig UFO’s ziet.

De tweede waarneming is afkomstig van Isle of Man en is heel bijzonder.

Het is in de avond van 17 april als een stel langs een volkomen verlaten en afgelegen deel van het strand van het Isle of Man loopt te wandelen. Dan, opeens zien ze iets.

Eerst een soort bol die lijkt af te dalen naar een boot die in het water ligt, wat echter bij nader inzien dat niet blijkt te zijn omdat het boven het wateroppervlak zweeft.

Waar het alle schijn van heeft, is dat we hier te maken hebben met een soort verkenner orb die terugkeert naar het moederschip.

Hieronder volgen de bewegende beelden en zoals je aan de stomverbaasde en opgewonden stem van de man kunt horen, is hij volkomen overdonderd en is hoorbaar dat hij op een gegeven stamelt dat "ze" iets aan het testen zijn.

Opgewonden Engelsen willen nog wel eens het f*#@ woord gebruiken, dus wees voorbereid, deze Brit vormt daarop geen uitzondering.

Het licht van de samensmelting begon naar ons te reizen zo’n 1,4 miljard jaar na de Big Bang, toen het universum slechts een tiende van zijn huidige leeftijd had. Aangezien de samensmelting zo lang geleden plaatsvond, zou het gigantische sterrenstelsel dat zo ontstond alsmaar groter zijn geworden. Berekeningen suggereren dat nog honderden andere sterrenstelsels zouden verzwolgen zijn door de cluster, met een massa gelijk aan 1.000 biljoen zonnen. Het zou zo het grootste gekende object in het universum zijn.

14 tot 30 sterrenstelsels

De vondst onthult maar liefst 14 sterrenstelsels die samengepropt zitten in een gebied dat slechts vier keer zo groot is als de diameter van galactische schijf van onze Melkweg. Een nabijgelegen hoop licht die nog niet ontleed werd in individuele objecten, suggereert dat het totale aantal sterrenstelsels dat afstevent op de botsing eerder een dertigtal is.

Tijdens de eerste paar miljoen jaren van de kosmische geschiedenis begon normale materie en donkere materie samen te klitten, waardoor uiteindelijk clusters van sterrenstelsels ontstonden. Vandaag kunnen dergelijke clusters tot duizend sterrenstelsels bevatten, grote lappen donkere materie, immense zwarte gaten en gaswolken die temperaturen van meer dan een miljoen graden kunnen bereiken.

De vondst op zich is al spectaculair, maar het feit dat hij dateert van zo vroeg in de geschiedenis, biedt een enorme uitdaging voor onze kennis van de manier waarop structuren in het universum ontstaan, reageert astrofysicus en medeauteur van de studie Scott Chapman van de Dalhousie University in het Canadese Halifax. De enorme cluster SPT2349-56 ontstond bovendien twee keer zo snel als de huidige theorieën aanwijzen.

Het onderzoek werd gepubliceerd in vakblad Nature.

Vanop de noordwestelijke lanceerbasis Jiuquan vertrok een Lange Mars-11 draagraket. Die zette vijf Zhuhai-aardobservatiesatellieten in de ruimte af.

Volgens Xinhua is de Zhuhai-1 een commercieel aardobservatiesatellietsysteem. Het moet data leveren voor landbouw, grondstoffen, milieubescherming en transport.

Op 15 juni 2017 stuurde Peking al twee kunstmanen van dit systeem de ruimte in. Het was de 272ste missie van een telg van de Lange Mars-draagraketfamilie.

Recent archaeological discoveries suggest that Siberia was once the home of a possibly highly developed Ice Age civilization. Relics ranging from massive unexplained megalithsto mysterious walled structures have been found, suggesting that these people were capable of significant architectural feats. While it has been known that there were tribes of people living in this area during the Ice and Stone ages, these new discoveries suggest that these civilizations were more advanced than previously thought. Now, a new analysis of a creepy humanoid statue found in the Ural mountains has been dated to even before the pyramids. Is there a lost chapter of human history waiting to be unearthed in Eurasia and Siberia?

Possibly, if a recent analysis published in Antiquity is confirmed. The study examines the Shigir Idol, believed to be the most ancient wooden sculpture in the world. The statue was discovered in fragments beginning in the 19th century in an open-air gold mine which contained other ancient artifacts. Several studies have dated the statue to be around 9,000 years old, but this latest study claims that age is more likely 11,600 years old – twice as old as the pyramids.

The purpose and meaning of the idol remain shrouded in mystery, but it does bear resemblance to other Ice Age art found near Turkey’s Göbekli Tepe, believed to be the oldest known temple in the world. The authors of this recent study write that the statue “may reflect encoded mythologies” and could provide a glimpse into the folklore and beliefs of early civilizations indigenous to this part of the world:

The vertical placement of the faces could indicate the presence of an internal hierarchy among the images, or a sequence of events. Above all, however, the Shigir sculpture is unique within the early art of Eurasia and offers the potential for a better understanding of the spiritual world of early hunter-gatherer-fishers of the forest zone of Eurasia.

Pre-industrial human civilizations had only natural materials at their disposal, meaning the ravages of time have likely rendered into dust all evidence of these early civilization. Will we ever truly understand our own species’ early history?

Doctors think they’re so smart. Sure, they might be able to save our lives and everything, but the history of medicine shows us that what is cutting-edge thinking today will someday (maybe soon) be looked down upon as foolish gobbledygook. I mean, we used to give children morphine to calm them down, people used to rub mercury on themselves for all sorts of conditions, and lobotomies were considered a legitimate form of medicine through the mid-20th century. That’s no reason not to go to the doctor or get vaccinated in the meantime, though. It merely shows that medical science, like all sciences, are constantly reinventing themselves in light of new discoveries and likely always will. It’s just the nature of scientific knowledge.

Case in point: scientists have just discovered an entirely new, unknown form of DNA hiding right inside human cells. While most human DNA assumes the double helix corkscrew form, scientists have speculated for years that there might be another form hidden within the human genome: a four-stranded ‘knot’ known as i-motif. A new study in Nature Chemistry claims to have finally found evidence that i-motif DNA exists in the human genome, and that it might play an unknown-but-highly-important regulatory role in human genetics.

These i-motif forms are thought to fold and unfold in and out of existence during transcription, the process through which DNA sequences are ‘copied’ into RNA and subsequently expressed as various biological functions. Marcel Dinger, head of the Kinghorn Centre for Clinical Genomics at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, says the discovery is “pretty spectacular” and only further highlights the fact that the human genome is still pretty much a mystery to science:

There’s so much of the genome that we don’t understand, probably like 99 percent of it. Seeing DNA folded like this in living cells makes it possible to decode those parts of the genome and understand what they do.

DNA was formally discovered less than a hundred years ago, and the disciplines of genetics and genomics are still in their infancy, relatively speaking. Who knows what groundbreaking genetics discoveries are just around the corner now that the human body has become the plaything of so-called biohackerslooking to augment their own genomes in the privacy of their own basements?

A strange photo has once again gained attention online after alien hunters posted it on YouTube. It reportedly shows an extraterrestrial inside.

The picture is claimed to have taken on May 1, 1980, in Manchester region, New Hampshire in the US.

The image shows a seemingly sizeable muddy farming field with a single bright blob in the distance just before sunset.

UFO researchers have zoomed in on the bright object and pointed out the alleged occupant.

UFOmania posted the photo to YouTube after it emerged on MUFON website.

The Narrator of the video stated that the person who reportedly took the image only said the UFO hovered for a second, turned and then had its take off.

Some viewers are not convinced the photo shows a UFO with an occupant. One user wrote that the alien was seemingly operating a space Prius and another even joked about the missing cup holder in that apparent ship of an advanced species.

An alleged UFO was also observed on live satellite coverage of NASA recently. The strange video shows bright lights flashing on the live feed of the International Space Station.

Newcastle UFO Sighting Photo Shows Strange Black Dot In the Sky

A black dot in the sky hovering over Newcastle has left the witness baffled. It could be a bird or a plane, but the one who snapped the photo think it could be a UFO.

Alien enthusiasts cannot find a reliable explanation of the strange object that was observed hovering above Tyneside.

The witness who took the picture of the apparent shape-shifting vessel said that he was in the back garden when he looked up in the sky and saw the clouds with a wake in them as if a mysterious force had pushed through them.

According to the witness report, he looked up and saw nothing, but when he moved his view to the North West over his fence, he noticed the triangular craft about a size of a transit van. He described the vessel as black in colour and seemed to be shifting in shape.

After rushing to get his camera, he saw the craft changing shape and smaller in size. The UFO then started to go up without making a sound, added the witness. He said that three boomerang type jets then flew around the UFO as it continually changing shape.

One of them – Disclose Screen – has racked up almost 1,000 hits in less than 12 hours.

And viewers were quick to speculate what it could be.

One comment read:  "It's sure enough an out of this world craft." 

Another added: "How do you explain that other than reverse technology or an ET craft?"

And a third claimed: "Nevada desert says it all really doesn't it! 

"You got Area 51, Nellis Air Force Base, Papoose lake and whatever else is out there!"

Conspiracists have long linked the United States Air Forces' highly classified Homey Airport facility as being a UFO testing zone.

Some believe it is used for the storage examination and reverse engineering of crashed alien spacecraft. 

While others believe the government is developing and testing the use of exotic energy weapons and weather control technology.

Earlier this month, similar claims surfaced after a bright light was filmed leaving the base.

And before that, conspiracists speculated that alien spacecrafts had been captured battling near Area 51.

Extraterrestrials Genetically Engineered Homo sapiens 780,000-years-ago

Early humans emerged on Earth around 4 million years ago, but new evidence arising from the study of human evolution has revealed compelling evidence that a small group of these hominins was genetically modified by ancient alien visitors to create the first Homo sapiens.

Researcher and author, Daniella Fenton, has been taking an in-depth look at the earliest origins of humanity and its sudden acceleration in brain development close to 800,000 years ago, this investigation has led to a massive revelation.

Homo sapiens are the creation of ancient astronauts that arrived through a wormhole from the Pleiades star cluster 780,000 years ago.

The Australian researcher, an expert in equine bloodlines and genetic expression, uncovered numerous genetic changes which mark humans as anomalous when contrasted with modern primate species, some are so extreme that they are best explained by advanced genetic engineering.

In her book, titled ‘Hybrid Humans: Scientific Evidence of Our 800,000-Year Old Alien Legacy’, Daniella Fenton highlights a series of profound changes in the genes associated with brain size, neural structures, and information processing. These changes include genes that appear suddenly fully formed out of so-called ‘junk DNA’ and fragments of genes that have been snipped out, copied and re-inserted.

Fenton points the mysterious fusion of Chromosome-2 at the same time as these other changes, around 780,000 years ago, as further evidence of extraterrestrial experimentation. This fusion is found in all large-brained human types, including Neanderthals and Denisovans, but not in any other primate species.

She explains that the fusion of chromosome-2 should have been a one-off error that disappeared in the subsequent generation or perhaps led to a small population of people with 46 chromosomes among a more substantial number of those carrying 48. Instead, all humans after 780,000 years ago exhibited the ‘mutation’. This strongly infers that there was an enormous benefit associated with the fusion and that it appeared suddenly in a considerable number of individuals, allowing chromosome-2 to become a permanent and dominant trait. This does not fit with known natural mutations in the human genome.

Fenton explains, “Somebody created an entire generation of breeding pairs that carried the fusion of chromosome-2. The chromosome modification is such that it would have impacts on the brain development, the immune system and reproductive processes.”

Humans also carry unique changes in the gene FOXP2 that changed synaptic connectivity and enhanced our ability to transform new experiences into routine procedures, this had enormous influence on our ability to produce meaningful speech. Fenton points out that this change is not observed in other primates and it appears our creators wanted us to be able to quickly form new habitual behaviors particularity language use.

Fenton said: “It is not just the genetic changes 780,000 years ago which inform us Homo sapiens is a species created by alien beings, we have also identified physical material left behind by these star people, materials dated to that same specific point in time.”

Fenton offers a detailed explanation for why these visitors ended up marooned here and the motivations which led them to modify early hominins in her book Hybrid Humans: Scientific Evidence of Our 800,000-Year Old Alien Legacy.

Aliens May Be Real, But Are Probably Trapped On Their Planets Say Scientists

Scientists analyzed in two different scientific papers how hard it would be for aliens living on Super Earth’s—planets ten times the size of Earth—to reach space using rockets.

According to a recent research paper that discusses alien life, if extraterrestrial beings are out there somewhere, they might be trapped by the gravity of their home planet.

Experts have researched just how hard it would be to launch a rocket into space from a Super Earth—planets in the universe believed to be up to TEN times the size of our world.

Astronomers have found that a large number of Super-Earth’s orbit their host star in the so-called Goldilocks-zone, the area in space around the star where the planet’s surface temperature is ideal to support life as we know it.

Now, scientists have analyzed just how hard it would be to reach space from such a world.

Experts calculated the gravitational pull of Super-Earth’s and found that it would be nearly impossible to launch a spacecraft into space, from the surface of these supermassive planets.

That is, using the technology we’ve developed on Earth.

Experts have calculated that to launch a spacecraft like the one that took mankind to the moon, a rocket would need a mass of approximately 400,000 metric tons, because of fuel requirements, researchers have found.

This means that for an alien civilization to reach space, they’d have to come up with rockets that don’t necessarily rely on chemical fuel.

study author Michael Hippke, an independent researcher affiliated with the Sonneberg Observatory in Germany, told Space.com that: “Many rocky exoplanets are heavier and larger than the Earth and have higher surface gravity, This makes space-flight on these worlds very challenging, because the required fuel mass for a given payload is an exponential function of planetary surface gravity.”

“On more-massive planets, spaceflight would be exponentially more expensive. Such civilizations would not have satellite TV, a moon mission or a Hubble Space Telescope,” added Hippke.

Here on Earth, we can overcome the gravitational pull of our planet with the use of massive rockets. For example, there’s Elon Musk’s upcoming space vehicle dubbed ‘Big Fucking Rocket.’

However, aliens on distant Super Earth’s might need an evenBigger f*cking rocket.

Two separate studied have taken a look whether it would be possible even to build a rocket powerful enough to beat the gravitational pull of distant super-Earth’s.

In one scientific paper, Hippke investigated just how hard it would be to launch a rocket into space from a hypothetical super-Earth that was around severity percent wider, and ten times more massive compared to Earth. Curiously, these are the approximate dimensions of an alien world dubbed Kepler-20b, located some 950 light years from Earth.

Hippke found that in this super world, the escape velocity needed to reach space would be 2.4 times greater than that on our home planet.

Here on Earth, spacecraft need to achieve an escape velocity of around 40,000 kilometers per hour.

“Civilizations from super-Earths are much less likely to explore the stars. Instead, they would be to some extent arrested on their home planet and, for example, make more use of lasers or radio telescopes for interstellar communication instead of sending probes or spaceships,” said Hippke.

One possibility is that potential alien civilizations inhabiting super-Earth’s could use their home planet’s tallest mountaintops to launch a vehicle to space.

However, given the severe gravity on the planet, mountains would grow very tall, suggest scientists.

All of this doesn’t mean that aliens on super Earth’s cant go to space. It only means—hypothetically—that they would need to come up with different methods to achieve their goals.

In addition to Hippke’s scientific paper, another study, published by Dr. Abraham Loeb from Harvard University suggests that nuclear-powered spaceflight may be achieved by distant alien civilizations on large massive planets, helping them overcome strong gravitational pulls.

“An advanced extraterrestrial civilization could use other propulsion methods, such as nuclear engines or light sails which are not constrained by the same limitations as chemical propulsion and can reach speeds as high as a tenth of the speed of light. Our civilization is currently developing these alternative propulsion technologies, but these efforts are still in their infancy,” said Dr. Loeb.

It was a landmark feat: a space mission entered the orbit of a distant comet for the first time.

The European Space Agency’s Rosetta rendezvoused with Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in the outer reaches of the Solar System.

After ten years of traveling through deep space, powered mainly by solar cells, Rosetta neared the comet not far (relatively speaking) from the orbit of Jupiter, and started circling it.

In November 2014, Rosetta released a tiny lander onto the mysterious comet to have a closer look — the first time we’ve ever dispatched a robotic lander on a comet’s rocky surface.

And the view was breathtaking. The lander sent back a series of images straight from the surface of 67P. A couple of years later, Twitter user Iandru79 created this animated short clip from a series of long exposures, taken back in 2016.

Amid a series of setbacks with NASA’s James Webb Telescope, the astronomycommunity is understandably bummed. This much-hyped ‘scope could allow scientists to peer into the atmospheres of exoplanets like the ones found in TRAPPIST-1 with unprecedented detail. The problem is, the mission is having a really hard time getting off the ground, literally and figuratively.

But the second data release from a European Space Agency project — aptly named Gaia, after the ancient Greek goddess of Mother Earth — could be the astronomy revolution no one saw coming, save for a few, including the American Museum of Natural History’s Jackie Faherty.

Faherty, an astrophysicist, tells Inverse on episode four of I Need My Space(available now on Apple Podcasts), that this massive data dump — which drops Wednesday morning at 6 a.m. Eastern — could be even more extensive than JWST. It just hasn’t gotten much publicity in the states.

“Gaia I think, was always going to rival or exceed JWST in some ways,” she tells me on INMS. “Because it’s a European mission from ESA, very few people in the United States are paying attention to it. Even astronomers who know it’s coming are not preparing like I think they should, because the European missions have far less publicity.”

The Gaia space observatory orbits the sun, remaining about 1.5 million kilometers (roughly 93,200 miles). Launched in 2013, the ESA says the project’s mission is “to create the most accurate map of the Galaxy to date.” So far, it seems well on its way to doing that.

Gaia’s first data set, made public in September 2016, provided information about the luminosity and location of about 1.1 billion stars. The ESA writes that in the second data release, the spacecraft will provide the “positions and brightnesses for nearly 1.7 billion stars, distances, motions and color information for 1.3 billion, and a number of additional parameters for smaller subsets of stars and other celestial objects.”

“[INMS listeners] may have never even heard of this mission, I will tell you out of the gate this revolutionizes astronomy,” Faherty tells me. “It’s the most ambitious astronomy mission of all-time. Far more ambitious than JWST, arguably, and it will change everything we know about stars in our galaxy.”

Wednesday’s release will be celebrated in its own way on at a hackathon in New York City, which Faherty is attending along with other astrophysicists in astronomers. Together, they’ll be figuring out how to best synthesize this massive amount of information. It’ll be a herculean effort for sure, but one Faherty feels it’ll all be worth the sleepless nights. After all, the result is kind of the biggest deal there is: a true map of the Milky Way.

“It’s not just going to fill the hole of JWST,” Faherty says. “It’s its own magical new thing which everyone should be excited about.”

How Would Alien Life Forms Look And Behave On A Habitable Planet Around A Red Dwarf Star?

The largest population of stars in the galaxy hide in the shadows, too dim to be seen with the naked eye from Earth. Their limited radiance helps to extend their lifetimes, which are far greater than that of the sun. Scientists think that 20 out of the 30 stars nearest to Earth are red dwarfs; however, none of them can be seen with the naked eye. The closest star to the sun, Proxima Centauri, is a red dwarf.

Take the example of the recently discovered planet called Kepler 186f. It orbits a red dwarf star that has only 4% of the sun’s luminosity. It appears to have liquid water and to be habitable and it seems to have gravity similar to Earth. Due to their low luminosity, how do you think lifeforms would look like on a planet like this? There are a lot of factors that need to be considered, and most exoplanets are too far for those factors to be observed directly with current instruments.

Let’s first ponder the possible environments of a planet circling a red dwarf.

What would the sky look like?

For a blue sky: A planet needs to have a thick atmosphere with an abundance of oxygen, and preferably a clear ocean of water or methane. To have a thick atmosphere the planet will need to have a strong magnetosphere. To have a strong magnetosphere the planet will need to have a large, solid iron inner core rotating quickly within a fluid iron outer core. To have such a core, the planet must be larger than a certain size and must have been born after a certain amount of time after the big bang, and in a region of space relatively populated by iron dust created largely through supernovae and nucleosynthesis.

For a red sky: consider Mars. Its atmosphere is 1% of Earth’s and appears red because the ground is red. It’s literally rust. To have such a minimal atmosphere, Mars or any planet would likely have lost its magnetosphere. For that to be the case geological activity and core motion would need to have been dropped nearly to nothing (Mars, in fact, has some magnetism in the southern hemisphere). To be rust the planet must have a considerable amount of iron, so it needs to have accreted during a period when Iron has been nucleo-synthesized in abundance, and it needs to have formed in a region of space in which that is the case.

Let’s assume the planet has the same mass as Earth and is in the circumstellar habitable zone which, around Red Dwarfs, would be very close to the star. Tidal-locking would be inevitable, but models predict that atmospheric equilibration is potentially possible between the starward side and it’s opposite if CO2 and H20 are present. Still, the climate might be pretty turbulent, so expect the need for sturdy shelters capable of thermo-regulation.

The luminosity of a Red Dwarf is no more than 10% of our sun’s, so it will be like living in perpetual twilight. 

Plants will need to photosynthesize much more efficiently, perhaps via black analogues of chlorophyll.

Life forms could have very similar metabolisms to earthly organisms. But who knows they might not even be carbon-based lifeforms. Metabolisms are a function of the chemical environment they evolve in. A life that evolves in an ammonia-rich atmosphere would be very different than on that evolved in a sulphur-rich atmosphere.

I would think that they would evolve big, big eyes or light sensors.  It is logical to assume that their visual system would extend into the infrared end of the electromagnetic spectrum, since a red dwarf’s visible light emission peaks in the red portion of the spectrum.

They would not see colours like we do. They could see inside thick dust clouds, obscured galactic cores, and other hidden regions of the cosmos. These unique abilities are thanks to the infrared light, a wavelength invisible to the human eye.

How might they observe us?

In infrared, our petty reasons for racism and xenophobic behaviour completely vanishes.

Looking at us humans in the infrared like these aliens would, it would be impossible for them to understand our human failing of unenlightened racism. They would not see the superficial characteristic of white, black, red or yellow skin. In infrared, we would all appear to be the same.

We are all the SAME even when not viewed in infrared but many people still do not understand that.

Their physical size and bodily configuration depend on the gravity of the planet.  On the massive planet, massive life forms. The Smaller planet, thinner lighter life forms. If there are aquatic life forms, they are probably on the level of algae and flagellates. Colors of organisms will be in the white to a pale region.

Red Dwarfs are thought to have frequent stellar flares. If you’re caught outside at the start of one, you better have a radiation-resistant coat that will envelop you rapidly.

This 3D Color Map of 1.7 Billion Stars in the Milky Way Is the Best Ever Made

BERLIN — Nearly 1.7 billion stars have been plotted in unprecedented detail with today's (April 25) highly anticipated release of data from the European Space Agency's Gaia spacecraft. 

The new 3D map, which was unveiled here at the ILA Berlin Air Show, offers the best-ever look at the Milky Way — now in color — and promises to unleash hundreds of scientific discoveries about our galactic home and beyond.

"The first time I saw this I was at home, I turned off all the lights, and I just sat there in the dark for a while staring at this image because it's really so beautiful," Anthony Brown, an astronomer at Leiden University in the Netherlands, said during a press conference. Brown, who is chair of the consortium of 450 scientists and software engineers who are processing and validating the Gaia data, encouraged others to download the map and "go to a dark place and admire it." The $1 billion (750 million euros) Gaia spacecraft launched in 2013 for a five-year mission to map the night sky with unmatched accuracy. The spacecraft is perched far beyond the moon's orbit, in the Lagrange-2, or L2, point, a gravitationally stable spot about 1 million miles (1.5 kilometers) away from Earth. Unlike space telescopes such as Hubble that orbit the Earth, Gaia can scan the cosmos without Earth blocking a large chunk of its view. As it rotates in space, Gaia measures about 100,000 stars each minute and covers the whole sky in about two months. Each star is measured 70 times on average.

"Over the lifetime of five years of Gaia, we will actually get 29 independent measurements of whole sky," Günther Hasinger, the European Space Agency's (ESA) director of science, said at the ILA.

Gaia's first data release in 2016 offered information on the positions and brightness of 1.142 billion stars, but it included only the distances and motions of a subset of 2 million stars. The new publicly available catalog includes the positions, distances, motions, brightness and colors (which allowed the scientists to synthesize the new color image) of more than 1.3 billion stars. The star census also reveals the surface temperatures of about 100 million stars and the effect of interstellar dust on 87 million stars.

These measurements can be used for much more than Milky Waymapmaking. The properties of stars can tell scientists about the origins, evolution and structure of the galaxy. The Gaia scientists today announced some of their preliminary findings from poring over the new data. Independently, other teams of researchers around the world were eagerly waiting to get their hands on the data to run their own studies.

The huge trove of data went online at noon CET (6 a.m. EDT) and had 256 users in the first 2 minutes alone, according to a tweet from the Gaia mission. Brown told Space.com that he expects the first scientific manuscripts using the new Gaia data to be uploaded to preprint servers (such as arXiv) by tomorrow or Friday (April 26-27). An average of a paper a day had been published from the first Gaia data release until now, Brown said, and he expects there to be many more studies based on the new cache.

During today's release, Brown and his colleagues unveiled several images, including a new map of the clouds of gas and dust in the galaxy and a new visualization of the orbits of 75 ancient globular clusters and 12 dwarf galaxies that revolve around the Milky Way. The Gaia archive also contains the largest-ever radial velocity survey, with measurements on how fast more than 7 million stars are moving toward us or away from us, and the resulting map of this data was another "'Wow!' image" for Brown.

"Basically, you see the whole Milky Way in motion around its axis in this one image," he said. 

Antonella Valenari, a Gaia scientist from the University of Padua in Italy, introduced a Hertzsprung-Russell diagram based on the new Gaia data. This type of diagram compares the brightness of stars with their color as a way to examine populations of stars and their evolution.

"In our Milky Way, we have different families of stars that are born more or less at the same time and more or less with the same chemical composition and same characteristics," Valenari explained, adding that reconstructing these families can help scientists understand when and how the Milky Way was formed. "For us this diagram is like opening a chocolate box. It's very, very exciting."

Valenari also said that the Gaia data reveals groups of stars "moving in a strange way" inside the Milky Way at similar speeds. She compared the pattern to ripples in a pond, and that smaller neighboring galaxies merging with the Milky Way billions of years ago might have caused this perturbation. "This is something we still have to study to be sure of it," she said.

The Gaia spacecraft has even made observations of our own solar system, mapping the positions of more than 14,000 known asteroids. And Gaia is still operating and collecting measurements. The final data release is expected for the 2020s, according to ESA.

In the summer of 1559, King Henry II of France referred to as the older one lined up to joust the Comte de Montgomery, the young lion, six years his junior, on the fields of France or combat. In the final pass, Montgomery’s lance burst through the king’s visor splintering to pieces. Both of them did have lions on their shields. Two shards injured him, one pierced his eye and lodged in the Kings head. Henry II suffered for 10 days before dying in his bed.

But, what does Nostradamus have for 2018?

1. The Largest Recorded Earthquake

So far, 2018 and even a part of 2017 was marked by catastrophic earthquakes around the globe. However, it is said that Nostradamus foresaw the largest earthquake in the history of the United States, especially affecting the western area of the United States. However, despite predicting the earthquake in the US, it is believed that the power of the earthquake will be felt in other countries around the world. Let’s hope he was wrong.

2. People will live more than 200 years

It is believed that the great French seer predicted great advances in medicine, which will extend the average lifespan of human to about 200 years. It is said that Nostradamus wrote how an 80-year-old will look like a 50, year old according. Numerous advancements in medicine have been made and Nostradamus’ predictions may soon become a reality.

3. Radiation will burn the planet

“Kings steal forests, the sky will open; the fields will be burned by heat,” Nostradamus wrote. This is believed to be a warning that the destruction of Earth’s rainforests will lead to a dangerous hole in the ozone layer and how Earth could be exposed to harmful ultraviolet radiation. Maybe it’s time to pay attention.

4. Language differences will disappear

“After the invention of a new engine, the world will be like in the days before Babel.” According to some interpretations of Nostradamus’ work, this new ‘engine; could be used like modern-day computers.

5. The collapse of the global economy

“The rich will die many times,” the French prophet wrote in his quatrains. Curiously, many other ‘Prophets’ like Baba Vanga, Edgar Cayce predicted the same.

Scientists complete most precise star map, revealing hidden details in our galaxy

The map shows the total brightness and colour of stars observed by the ESA satellite in each portion of the sky between July 2014 and May 2016. Brighter regions indicate denser concentrations of especially bright stars, while darker regions correspond to patches of the sky where fewer bright stars are observed.

ESA’s Gaia mission has now released the richest star catalogue to date, accurately pinpointing the position of more than 1.7 billion stars. The painstaking work, which required more than 22 months of charting the sky, will enable astronomers to investigate the formation and evolution of the Milky Way in unprecedented detail.

“The observations collected by Gaia are redefining the foundations of astronomy,” says Günther Hasinger, ESA Director of Science.

“Gaia is an ambitious mission that relies on a huge human collaboration to make sense of a large volume of highly complex data. It demonstrates the need for long-term projects to guarantee progress in space science and technology and to implement even more daring scientific missions of the coming decades.”

The €750 ($920) million Gaia satellite’s journey started in December 2013, and its first data release, which was based on just one year of observations, was published in 2016. This initial survey mapped the distances and motions of two million stars — very impressive, by all means. But, this latest data release, which was collected between 25 July 2014 and 23 May 2016, outshines its predecessor, pinning down the positions of nearly 1.7 billion stars. What’s more, the precision with which some of these stars have been mapped is simply mind-blowing. For instance, some of the brightest stars in the survey have been pinpointed with the same level of precision required for Earthbound observers to be able to spot a Euro coin lying on the surface of the Moon.

“The second Gaia data release represents a huge leap forward with respect to ESA’s Hipparcos satellite, Gaia’s predecessor and the first space mission for astrometry, which surveyed some 118 000 stars almost thirty years ago,” says Anthony Brown of Leiden University, The Netherlands.

Unwinding the Milky Way’s history

Armed with these far more accurate measurements, astronomers can now differentiate between the parallax of stars — the apparent shift in the sky caused by Earth’s yearly orbit around the sun — from their true movements relative to the galactic center. From the most accurate parallax measurements, about ten percent of the total, astronomers can directly estimate distances to individual stars.

All of this is a “big deal” for researchers whose careers are about understanding the Milky Way and its formation, a quest where the accuracy in pinning down the relative movements of its stars is of the utmost importance. Until recently, much of the galaxy’s contents have been obscured by gas and dust, making it difficult to discern its structure from our vantage point. And because the satellite traces how the stars move, scientists can trace their movements back in time, as if winding a clock backward — in the process, which some call galactic archaeology, it’s possible to see how the galaxy evolved over the past 13 billion years.

That’s not all. Gaia also observes objects in our Solar System, like the positions of more than 14,000 known asteroids. An even larger asteroid sample will be compiled in Gaia’s future releases.

Gaia also has locked on to the positions of more than half a million quasars — extremely remote celestial objects, emitting exceptionally large amounts of energy, powered by black holes a billion times as massive as our sun. These objects are used in the survey as beacons that define a reference frame for the celestial coordinates of all other objects in the Gaia catalogue, something that is routinely done in radio waves but now, for the first time, is also available at optical wavelengths.

All in all, scientists expect to make a wealth of new discoveries as a direct result of the new Gaia data release. Already, some astronomers are using the Gaia survey to distinguish between various populations of stars of different ages that are located in different regions of the Milky Way — such as the disc and the halo — and that formed in different ways

“Gaia will greatly advance our understanding of the Universe on all cosmic scales,” says Timo Prusti, Gaia project scientist at ESA.

Aliens May Be Trapped By the Gravity of Their Own Planets

It’s easy to get disheartened about the utter lack of evidence of the existence of extraterrestrial life. The universe is an unimaginably large place, yet so far it seems like we’re all alone. Of course, it could just be that aliens are too far away or perhaps we’re just looking for the wrong things in the wrong places. Maybe we’re an aberration, or, given the unfathomably long timelines of the cosmos, it could be that civilizations rarely develop in close proximity at the same times. Still, scientists with SETI and other organizations remain optimistic that we’ll discover alien life within the next few decades. There’s never been a better reason to take care of your health.

To add to the list of reasons why we’re so utterly forever alone out here in the terrifyingly empty reaches of space, a German astrophysicist has just published a new theory for why we haven’t found any aliens. According to Michael Hippke, a scientist at the Sonneberg Observatory, one of the most significant challenges facing distant alien races could be their own planets’ immense gravitational pulls. Recent exoplanet discoveries have revealed that so-called “Super-Earths” are fairly common in the habitable zones of their stars. However, as Hippke points out, the immense size of these Super-Earths can create incredibly strong gravitational forces which essentially ‘trap’ aliens on the surface due to the energy requirements needed to escape them.

Hippke told Space.com that any advanced alien civilizations on these types of planets might be unable to leave the surface by means of spaceflight, and thus might look for other means of reaching out:

Civilizations from super-Earths are much less likely to explore the stars. Instead, they would be to some extent arrested on their home planet and, for example, make more use of lasers or radio telescopes for interstellar communication instead of sending probes or spaceships.

Hippke says humans are pretty luck to find ourselves on a planet lightweight enough to support spaceflight, but that “other civilizations, if they exist, might not be as lucky.” Still, Hippke concludes his study by theorizing that space elevators or nuclear-powered rockets might be an option for these civilizations. As with all of these studies, I can’t help but wonder if our thinking about aliens is limited by the facts of our own existence.

The limits of our senses and our own technology lead us to think that all other life must ‘work’ the same ways life on Earth does. We think that any potential alien races would only be able to reach space by means of spacecraft, or that they even want to reach space at all, but who knows what hypothetical aliens on other planets might be like? Maybe they want to be left alone. Maybe they can send their consciousnesses through space. Maybe their bodies are spacecraft. The point is, we have no Earthly idea what’s out there, on Super-Earths or any other types of planets.

This Super-Earth, called 55 Cancri e, is nearly twice the size of our home planet. The gravity here would be far larger than on Earth.

Which concept is more believable (or unbelievable) … that the Milky Way galaxy has wandering supermassive black holes or that supermassive black holes (wandering or otherwise) could be hiding advanced alien civilizations? Both concepts have been seen in models and both could someday have an impact on Earth. Is it too soon to either run or put out a welcome mat … or both?

Supermassive black holes are the largest type of black hole and as such usually occupy the premier location in a galaxy – namely, smack dab in the middle. That’s the case with the Milky Way galaxy, whose supermassive black hole is at its center at Sagittarius A* (A-star), which is near the border of the constellations Sagittarius and Scorpius. While not yet proven, astronomers assume that every galaxy has a supermassive black hole at its center. It’s also likely that some may have two in that same center location. Now, a new study published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters proposes that some galaxies, including the Milky Way, have wandering supermassive black holes whose cause and possible effects are a concern for other stars.

Study lead author Michael Tremmel (who summarizes it in this video) reports that researchers from Yale, the University of Washington, Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris, and University College London used a new simulation model appropriately named Romulus (one of the twin founders of Rome) to predict the existence of these wandering supermassive black holes – appropriate because the secondary wandering holes are likely the result of the incomplete merging of two galaxies where the bigger SMBH didn’t assimilate the smaller one. The smaller SMBHs, being too far out to absorb gas and generate radiation, are invisible, but could still be deadly to a nearby star and its planets. Like us?

“It is extremely unlikely that any wandering supermassive black hole will come close enough to our Sun to have any impact on our solar system. We estimate that a close approach of one of these wanderers that is able to affect our solar system should occur every 100 billion years or so, or nearly 10 times the age of the universe.”

The amount of money wagered on lotteries shows how little humans respect long odds, but something far different that annihilation might also occur if our solar system is approached by a SMBH … alien contact. With the news of the wandering SMBHs, it’s worth revisiting an older report where Russian cosmologist Vyacheslav Vyacheslav Dokuchaev at Moscow’s Institute for Nuclear Research and the Russian Academy of Sciences proposed that supermassive black holes are so large, their centers may have enough space that their gravitational pull is less, allowing for planets to potentially exist. And not just planets, but also …

“We hypothesize that the advanced civilizations may live safely inside the supermassive black holes in the galactic nuclei being invisible from the outside.”

Really? Dokuchaev says supermassive black holes have two ‘point of no return’ event horizons with a space between them.

“The naked central singularity illuminates the orbiting internal planets and provides the energy supply for life supporting. This internal black hole domain, hidden by the two horizons from the whole external universe, is indeed a suitable place for safe inhabitation.”

REALLY? Dokuchaev admits that this advanced civilization would have to be advanced enough to deal with “huge tidal forces and massive energy densities … [and] causality violations, where the rules of space-time don’t apply.” If they’re so advanced, why don’t they move to a better galactic neighborhood?

So, a simulator shows that supermassive black holes are wandering the Milky Way, a Russian cosmologist says they may contain advanced life forms, and the odds of either getting close to us are worse than the lottery … but not impossible.

What do we know for sure? Supermassive Black Hole is already a great song and the Naked Singularities would be a great name for a band.

On the weekend of April 13-15, I spoke at the annual Ozark Mountain UFO Conference on the subject of the Men in Black. As so often happens at such gigs, people have questions for the speakers. One of the questions put to me went something like this: “Why don’t the aliens intervene and do something for us?” It was a question provoked by my speculation that within a century or so from now we will have well and truly irreversibly fucked up not just ourselves but the planet and everything that shares it with us. Yes, contrary to what some might think, it’s not just our world: there are plenty of other animals that will suffer as a result of our reckless stupidity.

Given that we may well end up wiping ourselves out, it might seem reasonable to think that, at the last moment, the aliens will step in and disable every nuke on the planet and prevent destruction on a worldwide scale (slight shades of 1951’s The Day The Earth Stood Still). Of course, this all assumes that the aliens actually care about us and the many other lifeforms on the planet. There are those who believe that the aliens are indeed our friends and that they are here to keep us on a road that takes us far away from destruction via nuclear war and ecological collapse  – and who knows what else? But, is that really the case? Probably not. Although, no doubt, such a scenario may help some get to sleep at night.

Yes, there are indications that our visitors (from wherever) may have concerns for our existence and our extinction. But, those same concerns never really seem to be anything but halfhearted in nature and content. Take, for example, the Space Brothers of the 1950s. Those long-haired hippy types who dropped in to say “Hi, Earthling!” to the likes of George Adamski, George Van Tassel, Truman Bethurum and Orfeo Angelucci, and who warned them of the dangers of the A-bomb, certainly did state that we were on a road to destruction. But, if they really cared, why just share their concerns with a bunch of people in the deserts of California, Nevada, and Arizona? Yes, Adamski’s first book, Flying Saucers Have Landed(co-written with Desmond Leslie) sold well. And, yes, George Van Tassel’s annual gigs at Giant Rock, California attracted audiences in the thousands at their height.

For the most part, though, more than a few of the Contactees languished in obscurity and had to settle for selling a few of their self-published pamphlets, booklets and books to fairly small crowds. And today, many of those Contactees are forgotten and turned to dust. So, what was the point behind the actions of the Space Brothers? If it really was to save us from ourselves, they failed miserably. The reason being that chummy chats with a few people out at Giant Rock is not going to save the planet. Scaring the crap out of a bunch of people in desert locations in the early years of the Cold War achieved nothing – except for creating the image of caring ETs. Which may have been the point all along. And don’t bother me with theories concerning real-life equivalents of Star Trek’s “Prime Directive.”Bringing the likes of something as yawn-inducing and crappy as Star Trek into the equation does nothing but turn matters into a nerd/geek fest.

It’s pretty much the same with the black-eyed, big-headed, emotionless entities known as the Greys. Countless numbers of alien abductees have reported seeing images in their minds of the final days of planet Earth, of worldwide destruction, and of the end of humanity. We’re led to believe that this is because the Greys like us a lot; they’re warning us of what lurks ominously around the corner. They love us and they really want to see us make it. If that’s the case, then why do they not make themselves known to one and all (again, please don’t mention Star Trek…)? Why target a very small handful of the overall human population and encourage them to patiently write books and hit the road and speak at conferences, when doing so achieves absolutely nothing outside of the realm of Ufology?

The fact is that we only have their word that they are our friends (or, at least, that they have a desire for us not to end up as a combined pile of radioactive ash). We even only have their word that they are alien (in the extraterrestrial fashion). Maybe they are actually Mac Tonnies’ Cryptoterrestrials (doubtful, but I guess not completely impossible), John Keel’s Ultraterrestrials(a theory I like a lot), or even time-travelers from our very own future (Flying Saucers but no DeLoreans?).

UFO witnesses, contactees and abductees are all too quick to embrace the aliens, their words of friendliness, and their fears for our future. But, I kind of see it all as something, in a somewhat skewed fashion, that is akin to Stockholm Syndrome. Hanging onto the words of entities that may not be what they appear to be, and whose primary goal seems to be to ensure that we see them as our friends (when they may not be), is not a good thing. The Space-Brothers and the Greys don’t just try to be our friends. They try too hard. Our mysterious visitors do not care; they just try and convince us they do. And, that should be a cause for concern and alarm.

Seriously: what’s going on with all of the unexplained explosions and booms being heard throughout the United States? Over the last year, loud mystery booms have been consistently rattling homes and people from coast to coast with little explanation. All sorts of possible causes have been thrown out – underground frostquakes, natural gas emissions, atmospheric disturbances – but so far no single, official explanation has been offered.

This week, the booms continued in America’s northeast, being heard in rural Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. In Richland Township, Pennsylvania, residents in several towns were left confused after loud booms were reported multiple nights around 2:00 a.m., waking up residents and leaving a mystery in their wake. “It is quite loud,” says Donna Weaver of Quakertown, “It went boom, boom, that’s what it sounds like to me and that sounds like an explosion.” You’re absolutely right, Donna. Explosions do go ‘boom boom.’

Weaver told local news WFMZ that without an official explanation, residents are left to guess wildly as to what the source of the booms might be:

Nobody can figure out what it is. Some people were saying maybe they think it’s kids throwing M-80’s or cherry bombs, others are saying aliens.

Others always say aliens. A little farther north, residents of Plaistow, New Hampshire were awakened early in the morning hours of Monday, April 23 when a “mysterious loud noise” woke them up. Plaistow resident Joseph Pageau says he heard a sound “louder than fireworks” and feared the worst, but upon heading in the direction of the sound found nothing:

I was awake in bed and heard the explosion. I got up and looked out the window expecting to see a fire or something. I got in my truck and took a ride over expecting to see a house explosion. But there was nothing.

Police responded to several concerned calls about the sound, but discovered nothing. Fire crews were called when a small brush fire was found in the vicinity of many of the mystery boom reports, but it’s unclear if the fire and the noise were related.

A similar incident occurred today in Bellingham, Washington, where a large boom was heard throughout several surrounding cities. Like in the New Hampshire incident, smoke from a small fire was seen afterwards, although a local fire department spokesperson said this was likely from a nearby permitted brush burn. The Whatcom County Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause of the unexplained boom.

Me, I can’t help coming back to the theory that these noises could be the result of test flights of hypersonic unmanned aerial vehicles. Russia, China, and the U.S. have all been rumored to be testing faster-than-sound suborbital spacecraftcapable of delivering airstrikes to anywhere in the world in minutes. Are these mystery explosions actually the sonic booms caused by secret aircraft or weapons tests, spread out throughout the country to avoid detection? It’s certainly within the realm of the possible.

UFO with impossible speed and agility over Area 51 filmed from plane

A pilot flying a routine daytime flight from Las Vegas to Boise had a close encounter with a UFO over area 51 /Nevada Desert.

They were cruising at altitude when the pilot abruptly descended.

At this point two objects were observed tracking the aircraft and maneuvering with impossible speed and agility.

The footage filmed by a crew member shows and follows one UFO till the moment it flies straight upwards and disappears.

Experts think this black dot in the sky spotted hovering over Newcastle could be a UFO

Witness 'will now undergo hypnosis' after sighting which has been made public due to a leading ufo hunter

A UFO expert has released a file over a sighting made in Tyneside which the witness claims may have been a UFO - and has left the expert baffled

Is it a bird? Is it a plane?

Or is it an extra-terrestrial craft from outer space?

That’s the question puzzling alien hunters after a “shape shifting” vessel was spotted hovering over Tyneside.

And the person who snapped it thinks it could be a UFO.

“I was in my back garden and when I looked up I noticed that the clouds had a wake in them as if an invisible force had pushed through them” reads a witness report of the sighting.

“As I looked about in the sky I saw nothing. I then looked North West over my fence and seen a triangular craft about the size of a Transit van.

“It was black in colour and seemed to be changing shape.”

The witness rushed to get their camera. When they returned the craft had “changed shape” and was smaller.

“It then started to ascend up into the clouds (and made) no sound at all,” adds the witness.

“When the UFO was at a certain height, three boomerang type crafts flew around it. The UFO was constantly changing shape.”

A report of last June’s Westerhope sighting was filed with North East UFO expert Glen Richardson.

He’s now made snaps of the sighting public, and praised the witness for going public, in a bid to try and establish what the mystery craft was.

“At the moment the investigation is at the early stage so it is difficult to say what it is,” admits Hartlepool’s Glen.

“There can be many explanations to what it might be. For example a bird is a common explanation.”
