My previous article was on one of the reasons why government agencies have failed to give all of us definitive UFO Disclosure. In that article I suggested – in a specifically theoretical fashion, I should stress – that the truth might be too terrifying for us to handle. It was a theory that more than a few people have bought into. Namely, the idea that our souls are being “farmed” by the black-eyed aliens of Ufology. Of course, it’s just a theory and shouldn’t be seen as anything else, at all. Unless, that is, hard evidence surfaces – something that hasn’t happened yet. There is another angle as to why we haven’t got UFO Disclosure. It’s a scenario that most people probably don’t think about. It’s the theory that government’s don’t give us the full story because, really, they actually haven’t got a clue as to what the full story is! So, as they are as much in the dark as we are, they do very little when it comes to government-public discussion. It’s not an implausible picture. For example, consider the following:

Let’s say that within the heart of the U.S. government there are a lot of photos, footage, testimony from pilots and so on, that, combined, are incredible, and all in relation to UFOs. Maybe, there are even the remains of several, dead alien creatures, all preserved and hidden in a vault in one of the deeper levels of Area 51. All guarded with deadly force, of course. So, you might wonder: what’s preventing disclosure? Why not just got ahead? Well, I can think of one reason. A very important thing. Let’s expand on what I said above, and say that the government does know there is a real UFO phenomenon from somewhere else; but that same government has no answers. Imagine that the government really did get its hands on a few dead aliens back in 1947. But, that after more than seventy years of trying to get the truth of Roswell, the government has not been able to go any further than autopsying one or two, and preserving the rest. The government has no idea – in the slightest – as to where the aliens are from. And the government doesn’t know what the agenda of the aliens is. And, even worse, what if not even a single bit of progress has been made when it comes to trying to understand the alien technology?

If that really is the truth of the matter – namely, that those in government on the UFO programs refuse to tell us the full truth because of what they don’t know, rather than what they do know – then everything comes together. I’ve never really understood why there is this widespread belief/assumption in Ufology that “the government knows it all, but won’t tell us.” Why should the government know? They’re not all-knowing gods. And why should they tell us when doing so would only reveal the government’s vulnerability mixed in with its ignorance of the subject. Imagine, theoretically, the day comes when the Roswell bodies are reeled out for the world to see (hopefully on CNN, rather than on the you-know-what scum-channel). In no time at all, journalists are shouting questions at the government, all demanding answers. And all the government can provide to us in response – and in front of the world – are one or two of those bodies, a bit of wreckage, some photos and…well, that’s it. Not a single, solid answer. No knowledge concerning where they came from. No knowledge concerning their plans.

So, rather than tell the public that the government doesn’t really know much at all about UFOs – apart from the fact that, yes, there’s something going on – the government says as little as possible. But, that same government does it in a fashion that makes it look like the various agencies are on top of things (hence the widespread media coverage of the last few years). In reality, however, I have a nagging feeling that, yes, the government has got a lot of data, but very little of it has ever helped the government to understand the truth of the presence, of the entities among us, and of their plans. Or, worse, of their plots.

I found an ancient alien face carved into the top side of the mountain. It shows the side profile of an almost human-like alien species. The face is built along the hill in a way that closely resembles the American Mount Rushmore and the carved US presidents on it. From the wear and tear of the surface, I think that this is over 100,000 years old! This face gives us some idea of what the aliens looked like on Mars long ago. They clearly were intelligent since they carved this face in the side of the mountain. Undeniable proof that intelligent life once roamed the surface of Mars.

 The sun wasn’t quite up as I was driving north on HWY 95 in Ft. Mohave, AZ. It was just before 7:00 AM on 09/17/2021. I spotted a thing with LED-type lights just hanging still by the wires ahead of me and immediately thought it to be strange and futuristic. I noticed that the color was brown and it seemed to be about 2-3 ft tall and about 10-12 inches wide, and it had a light on its top and one on the very bottom. Both lights looked like LED flashlights. But they just seemed to glow a clear white. The thing was titled down slightly, almost as if it was watching something. There is a charter school right across the street. Anyway, I pulled over to the other side of the street, in front of the school and got my phone out and clicked the camera app and hit record. By that time, it started moving, so I was not able to record the lights. It’s possible the lights went out, but I don’t know. If I had to describe its shape, I would say it looked like one of those curved water bottles or a gourd. The thing turned to my left, rose, then turned a slight right and just casually went out toward the mountains. There was another girl in a black Suburban who had pulled over and was recording it out of her window. I said to her “What the hell is that thing?” She didn’t respond, that I could tell. When it looked like it was just going way and wouldn’t return, I stopped recording. As soon as I stopped, there was somebody in the turn lane, and I pointed out to the thing going away, and so he made the turn and stopped and I asked him if he sees it. He said, “Yes”. Then, I explained what it was and he seemed stunned and thanked me for showing him. The girl that was recording left without talking to me. Maybe she was freaked out. I don’t know. When I analyzed the video, I noticed that the thing changed shape throughout the recording. It had no propulsion system that I could see and it didn’t have any landing gear. I didn’t hear any sound coming from it all. But the noise of cars going by was pretty loud. My feeling is that it is a futuristic military drone and that the brown color is meant for camouflage. But, that fact that it was changing shapes, takes that to a whole different level.

Na een grondige analyse blijken de afdrukken te dateren uit het midden Pleistoceen en tussen de 169.000 en 226.000 jaar oud te zijn. Maar misschien belangrijker dan de leeftijd, is de vraag wie de afdrukken heeft achtergelaten. Waren het Homo sapiens? Of een uitgestorven mensachtige? Een geloofwaardige theorie, ondersteund door recent ontdekte skeletresten op het Tibetaans Hoogland, stelt dat het mogelijk Denisovamensen waren; een mysterieuze groep oude verwanten van de Neanderthalers. Die theorie werd bevestigd toen onderzoekers DNA van Denisovamensen terugvonden op het Tibetaans Hoogland. Denisovamensen leefden mogelijk tienduizenden jaren op rij in een op het eerste gezicht vrij onherbergzame gebied.

Maar de ontdekking van de afdrukken doet nog een andere prangende vraag rijzen. Want: kan het onder de noemer kunst worden geschaard? “Er is geen utilitaire verklaring voor,” zegt Urban. “Dus wat zijn ze? Kunnen we het zien als artistiek gedrag, een creatief gedrag; iets duidelijk menselijks?” En dat is een interessante vraag. Er lijken namelijk beperkingen te zitten aan deze strikte categorieën. Ze weerhouden ons ervan om breder te denken over creatief gedrag.” De onderzoekers zijn er vrij zeker van dat de hand- en voetafdrukken aangetroffen op het Tibetaans Hoogland opzettelijk zijn achtergelaten. “Ik denk dat we kunnen aantonen dat dit geen utilitair gedrag is,” zegt Urban. “Dit heeft iets speels, creatiefs, mogelijk symbolisch. Dit raakt een zeer fundamentele vraag over wat het eigenlijk betekent om mens te zijn.” De onderzoeker pleit dan ook voor een bredere definitie van kunst, ook al zet dat sommige kenners op scherp.

Underground military base theorists and researchers appear to have stumbled upon an Anunnaki underground base. And the worst of it is that the Pentagon seems to have discovered it previously.

The entrance immediately led to a perfectly made tunnel , so the experts assured that it must have been artificially manufactured .

This characteristic, added to the possible electromagnetic field that surrounds it and the satellite images, suggests that it is an underground base .

According to theorists, this base was first discovered by the Pentagon , who detected the wall of energy and the frequency of vibration around the “entrance.”

It is believed that this was the real reason why US troops invaded the country, and that others had seized it without the people of Iraq having knowledge of its existence.

The United States Army was able to penetrate the defense of the base thanks to an advanced unknown weaponry carried by two Pentagon generals , together with the adviser to the United States Presidency.

Only the entrance to this underground base was about 60 meters from the electromagnetic safety wall.

According to the theorists, weapons with a very advanced technology for humans were found inside . Plasma beams and machinery capable of penetrating beyond the earth’s crust at high speed.

After passing through the gigantic tunnel, they entered a large gallery that, despite having disconnected the energy barrier, could be seen with great clarity.

The other barrier that was still active, right in front of the first, began to emit even greater energy . The officers continued to descend, noticing 2 huge stone carvings , facing each other, about 2 meters high.

In them there were cuneiform writings, such as the one found in the Cueva de los Tayos or those of Lake Titicaca, only this was of a totally unknown origin.

This, according to the officials, presented proto-Sumerian characteristics, very similar to those found in the Pokotia Monolith.

It is possible that this underground base, along with the one found on Mount Bucegi, are actually underground bases used by the ancient Anunnaki kings during a millennial war. This theory could confirm the existence of ancient astronauts.

Huge fleet of UFOs flying near the International Space Station

A camera on the International Space Station (ISS) captured an incredible array of unidentified objects near their position .

It all happened during a recent live broadcast from the ISS. And it occurred while the station was moving in an undetermined place on our planet.

As the fixed camera recorded the advance, hundreds of lights in formation can be seen, in an apparent direction towards Earth.

Several waves of UFO formations appeared this 2020. In February we were able to publish one, and another in May.

Records from the ISS live streaming camera as these objects passed by Earth.

And the images show that these groups of UFOs fly in large coordinated groups.

Some suggest that these UFO formations are reflections of city lights, but since the ISS circles Earth in about 93 minutes, we should see these kinds of lights every day. And it is not the case.

While there are many who believe that it could be a “fleet of extraterrestrial technology ships”, others indicate that it could be a flotilla of top secret United States ships.

More specifically the Space Force . The scope of this new “military force” would be to protect that country’s facilities in space, such as the satellites used for communication and surveillance.

Others offered further explanations.

They said it could be meteorites, and even Starlink satellites, sent by Elon Musk’s SpaceX , since since their launch in 2018 they have caused many people to mistake them for UFO sightings.

CONGRESS QUIETLY WANTS TO CREATE A NEW UFO OFFICE

CONGRESS MAY TAKE STEPS TO RAMP UP INVESTIGATIONS OF UFOS — UAPs, in the new terminology — following a Department of Defense report to Congress over the summer recognizing the reality of these “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena,” but found no evidence of extraterrestrial involvement.

Sections of two proposed intelligence appropriation bills, H.R. 4350 (the Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act in the House of Representatives) and S.2610 (the FY 22 Intelligence Authorization Act in the Senate) take different approaches to expand the work of the Pentagon’s UAP Task Force.

Those hoping for a full-throated Congressional hunt for technologically advanced aliens of UFO lore may be disappointed, however. The bills appear driven more by entirely Earthly national security and safety concerns than little green men in hypersonic lozenge-shaped vessels.

In June, the UAP Task Force presented a report to Congress that covered 144 UAP sightings by military and other federal sources between 2004 and 2021. While the report found no evidence of aliens, it did note that “UAP clearly pose a safety of flight issue and may pose a challenge to U.S. national security,” and that “Some UAP many be technologies deployed by China, Russia, another nation, or non-governmental entity.”

WHAT WOULD THE BILLS DO? 

If the bill becomes law, Section 345 of S.2610 would require the entire intelligence community to share any information about UAPs with the task force and the National Air and Space Intelligence Center immediately. It would then mandate classified reports about any UAP events to Congress beginning 90 days after the act's passage and quarterly from then on.

Section 1652 of H.R. 4350 — a provision added by Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego of Arizona — would establish a permanent office to study UAPs within the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

If the provision remains unchanged when the bill becomes law, it will charge the new office with creating a database for recording UAP incidents and “evaluating links between unidentified aerial phenomena and adversarial foreign governments, other foreign governments, or non-state actors,” and whether the incidents pose a threat. The House bill provision would also require reports to various Congressional Committees.

Gallego’s office did not respond to Inverse’s requests for comment.

WHY IS CONGRESS INTERESTED IN UFOS?

After decades of official non-recognition of UAPs, 2017 saw leaked videos from naval aviators and a New York Times story that brought the phenomena out of conspiracy theory and into the realm of sober national security interest. Pilots reporting seeing craft flying and maneuvering and seemingly impossible speeds near military aircraft was not a situation military brass could ignore.

In August 2020, the Pentagon created the UAP Task Force, and the Intelligence Authorization Act of 2020 mandated a report to Congress in 2021. The report, released in June, was only able to identify one of the 144 UAP sightings examined and determined it was a balloon.

The task force couldn’t explain the remaining 143 reports. And while the report concluded some of the sightings could have resulted from instrument failure or pilots making a mistake, more than half of the sightings were confirmed by multiple sensors to be real objects rather than phantoms.

WHAT’S NEXT

Both the House and Senate bills have been introduced, but have yet to be voted on by their respective chambers. The House bill has passed out of committee and been placed on the Congressional calendar. If the bills pass intact, their contents will need to be reconciled between the two houses before going on to President Joseph Biden.

We’ve read and heard plenty about the so-called Tic Tac UFO encounter in 2004 between pilots from the USS Nimitz and a pill-shaped unidentified aerial phenomena whose performance defied current technology and whose identity has not been confirmed, despite both media and Pentagon investigations. It’s a safe bet that most people believe there’s much, much more to this story. For example, although it was kept hidden from the American public for over a decade, a current member of Congress recently revealed when he learned about it … he was there when it happened!

Meet Mike Garcia, a US congressional representative from California. Garcia was first elected to Congress in 2020, so he obviously wasn’t there when the USS Nimitz UFO incident occurred. Where was he? According to an interview in Roll Call, in 2004 Naval Officer Mike Garcia was an F/A-18 pilot from the USS Nimitz. Not only that, Garcia admits he was in the air at the time of the encounter, 100 miles away, and listened in on the conversations between those pilots and the ship.

“It was one of those things that you couldn’t believe it when you heard it. The guys who actually saw it weren’t allowed to talk about it until just recently, so we couldn’t even ask questions.”

Garcia, fresh from a six-month deployment as part of the 2003 Operation Iraqi Freedom, was an experienced F/A-18 pilot. A graduate of the US Naval Academy, he eventually accrued over 1,400 hours of operational flight time over the course of nearly 20 years of military service. In other words, he sounds like the perfect representative of Congress – both literally and figuratively – to head up the latest UAP commission, keep the public informed, keep Congress informed, etc. And yet, he seems to have slipped through the cracks like a wet Tic Tac. Roll Call tried to pin him down on the Nimitz incident.

“I’m intrigued by it. I don’t know that it’s extraterrestrial — I do believe it’s man-made. And I’m not going to presuppose where it comes from, but I hope it’s American-made. It goes to show that we’ve got to continue to invest in our military technologies and not take it for granted that we are the only superpower out there. We have peer threats out there nowadays, not just near-peer threats. China and Russia have advanced capabilities that we don’t even know about.”

Should we really believe that an experienced fighter pilot who was in the air during the Nimitz incident who is now a member of the US Congress has not used that position to find out what those Tic Tacs really are identified as in the secret files we all know exist somewhere in the X-files of the government and the Pentagon?

“I do think it would be an amazing coincidence if we were the only life forms in this universe. That’s why we’ve got to invest in space programs to start answering some of these questions we all have and maybe one day see the extension of God’s creations on other planets.”

It doesn’t take long after they’re elected for members of Congress to memorize the pat answers to tough questions. Representative Mike Garcia may be a good congressman, a good family man and a good guy – but he doesn’t appear to be a good inside man for UFO disclosure. Why has he waited until now to reveal his own experience in the incident? To paraphrase Democratic vice-presidential candidate Senator Lloyd Bentsen to Republican vice-presidential candidate Senator Dan Quayle in a debate in 1988:

This is the second time within three weeks that a high-speed UFO passing fighter jets during an air show. 

On August 28, 2021, during an international air show in Thamesford, Ontario, Canada, a fast UFO flew past the Blue Angels and now on September 19, 2021, a similar incident occurred when the Red Arrows performed an air show in Chorley, England. 

As with the UFO in Canada, this UFO in England also has no wings or visible propulsion.

Early Mars Experienced Volcanic Supereruptions, Reseachers Say

Using high-resolution images from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, planetary scientists have discovered 4-billion-year-old layered deposits containing minerals consistent with altered volcanic ash throughout a region of northern Mars called Arabia Terra. They estimate that the volcanic ash observed in this region is the result of between 1,000 and 2,000 individual explosive eruptions over 500 million years.

“Several large and deep craters in western Arabia Terra, Mars are thought to be explosive calderas, a type of volcano capable of producing supereruptions,” said Dr. Patrick Whelley of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and colleagues.

“If these craters are calderas, vast layers of volcanic ash should be common in Arabia Terra.”

“While layered deposits have been observed previously in Arabia, until now, no deposits have been associated with the suggested calderas.”

In the new research, Dr. Whelley and colleagues used images from MRO’s Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars to identify the minerals in Arabia Terra.

Looking in the walls of canyons and craters from hundreds to thousands of km from the calderas, where the ash would have been carried by wind, they identified volcanic minerals turned to clay by water, including montmorillonite, imogolite, and allophane.

They then made three-dimensional topographic maps of the Arabia Terra region.

By laying the mineral data over the topographic maps of the canyons and craters analyzed, they could see in the mineral-rich deposits that the layers of ash were very well preserved — instead of getting jumbled by winds and water, the ash was layered in the same way it would have been when it was fresh.

“That’s when I realized this isn’t a fluke, this is a real signal,” said Dr. Jacob Richardson, also from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

“We’re actually seeing what was predicted and that was the most exciting moment for me.”

Using data from an earlier study, the researchers calculated the number of eruptions needed to produce the thickness of ash they found.

“It turned out there were thousands of eruptions,” Dr. Whelley said.

One remaining question is how a planet can have only one type of volcano littering a region.

On Earth, volcanoes capable of supereruptions — the most recent erupted 76,000 years ago in Sumatra, Indonesia — are dispersed around the globe and exist in the same areas as other volcano types.

Mars, too, has many other types of volcanoes, including the biggest volcano in the solar system called Olympus Mons.

Olympus Mons is 100 times larger by volume than Earth’s largest volcano of Mauna Loa in Hawaii, and is known as a shield volcano, which drains lava down a gently sloping mountain.

Arabia Terra so far has the only evidence of explosive volcanoes on Mars.

It’s possible that supereruptive volcanoes were concentrated in regions on Earth but have been eroded physically and chemically or moved around the globe as continents shifted due to plate tectonics.

These types of explosive volcanoes also could exist in regions of Jupiter’s moon Io or could have been clustered on Venus.

Whatever the case may be, the authors hope Arabia Terra will teach scientists something new about geological processes that help shape planets and moons.

“People are going to read our paper and go, ‘How? How could Mars do that? How can such a tiny planet melt enough rock to power thousands of super eruptions in one location?’ I hope these questions bring about a lot of other research,” Dr. Richardson said.

A paper on the findings were published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

Astronomers Should be Willing to Look Closer at Weird Objects in the Sky

The Galileo Project seeks to train telescopes on unidentified aerial phenomena

When purchasing a new phone or tablet, it is common practice to select the best technology that fits your needs within the available budget. This is also the strategy adopted by our research team at the Galileo Project, a new initiative to image unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) like those reported by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to the U.S. Congress on June 25, 2021.

To my amusement, I recently came across an online retailer that would allow us to “add to cart” a one-meter telescope for half a million dollars. Fortunately, cheaper telescopes are all that is needed for surveying the sky at the proper resolution to identify UAP.

Under typical weather conditions, Earth’s atmosphere is opaque to infrared light beyond a distance of about 10 kilometers or less. Resolving a feature the size of a cell phone on the surface of a UAP at that distance requires a telescope diameter on the order of 10 centimeters. Having a few such telescopes on a given site will allow us to monitor the motion of an object in three dimensions. These telescopes could be supplemented by a radar system that would distinguish a physical object in the sky from a weather pattern or a mirage.

If UAP are solid objects, they should heat up as they rub against air at high speed. The surfaces of objects that move in air faster than sound, such as supersonic airplanes or space rockets, are heated by hundreds of degrees. I calculated that the infrared glow of fast objects above a meter in size, supplemented by the heat from shockwaves in the air around them or an engine they carry, should be detectable with infrared sensors on telescopes out to the desired distance.

The data from a system of optical, infrared or radio telescopes will be fed to state-of-the-art video cameras linked to software that will filter out objects of interest for the telescope to track. If a bird flies above a common astronomical observatory, it will be ignored. The Galileo-Scopes will track it. Human-made drones or airplanes might be of great interest to some residents of Washington, D.C., but they are as uninteresting as birds for the Galileo Project.

My student Amir Siraj and I calculated that the number of UAP described in the ODNI report corresponds to about one object per hundred thousand square kilometers per year (with large uncertainties up to a factor of 100). This is well below the rate of unidentified objects from cell phone photographs or civilian eyewitness testimonies, implying that many of these unofficial sightings may have mundane explanations. Millions of cell phones with millimeter-size apertures are inferior to what Galileo proposes: a much smaller number of optimized telescope systems with apertures 100 times larger that are designed to rapidly track UAP.

The iceberg of classified reports‑of which only the tip has been exposed publicly‑may contain higher-quality images than those released to the public. Galileo’s goal is to capture new crisp images with better instruments than have ever been used by civilians. The full data set from the project will be open, whereas much of the data associated with the ODNI report is classified because it was obtained by government-owned sensors. Because the sky is not classified, Galileo-Scopes will operate just like common astronomical telescopes‑except that they will focus on nearby objects. We aim to change the intellectual landscape of UAP studies by bringing them into the mainstream of credible scientific inquiry.

In my book Extraterrestrial, published half a year ago, I argued that bringing the search for technological relics into the mainstream of astronomy would attract new funds and young talent to science. In recent weeks, this forecast became a reality. The Galileo Project has attracted millions of dollars from private donors and thousands of commitments from volunteers who offered to contribute their time and resources. Given the low incidence of UAP reported by ODNI, however, the project will need hundreds of telescopes to find UAP over a few years. That represents an order of magnitude more funding than we have collected so far.

With good enough data, extraterrestrial technologies can be distinguished from terrestrial technologies or natural objects. The Galileo Project will attempt to obtain this data from both UAP and unusual interstellar objects like `Oumuamua.

If prehistoric cave dwellers were to discover a cell phone, they would initially assume it to be a shiny rock of a type never seen before. But this might be the beginning of their learning experience. By pressing buttons on this weird rock, these early humans would record voices and images.

Similarly, the strange `Oumuamua has been interpreted as a new type of asteroid, such as a frozen chunk of pure hydrogen or nitrogen. But what if high-resolution images of such a weird object revealed buttons? It could encourage us to learn more by landing on the surface, just as the OSIRIS-REx craft recently landed on the asteroid Bennu. Here’s hoping that astronomers will be open-minded enough to check.

If the name Omni Calculator sounds familiar, it may be from its UFO Travel Calculator, which estimated those in famous Tic Tac UFOs to weigh more than 47,000 pounds (21,320 kg) with a span of 44.6 ft (13.6 m) and a speed of more than 11,800 mph — allowing one to travel from London to San Francisco (5,351 miles) in 27 minutes. From the ever-growing “What could possibly go wrong?” file comes word that a group of scientists have proposed a way to fight global warming by making clouds whiter and brighter. No … this isn’t funded by a laundry detergent company, although that’s not a bad idea. They claim brighter clouds will reflect more sunlight, leaving the Earth cooler. Before you start wondering if this involves ‘chemtrails’, they’ve got an answer for that too. Is this the ‘holy grail’ of climate change solutions that doesn’t involve us humans changing our behavior, our pollution, our corporate profits or our politics?

“Led by University of Washington scientists, a team of researchers designed a program to explore marine cloud brightening as a mechanism for cooling climate while simultaneously providing insight about cloud-aerosol effects and their influence on climate.”

As long as it’s not making chemtrails …

The Marine Cloud Brightening (MCB) project is led by University of Washington cloud-aerosol scientist Dr. Robert Wood, and was inspired by a real phenomenon – ships at sea emit exhaust particles (aerosols) which mix with sea salt particles and carry them up to stratocumulus clouds over the ocean, brightening them to levels that cool the ocean below and offset increased levels of CO2. Seen from satellites, these “ship tracks” look suspiciously like airplane contrails (see for yourself here), so the purpose of the MCB Project is to ‘sea salt’ these clouds from ships without harming the atmosphere … or humans.

The arguments in favor of ‘sea salting’ clouds starts with the fact that sea water is free and environmentally harmless when it falls back to Earth. Aerosolizing seawater from sea level would use far less energy than cloud seeding by aircraft, resulting in lower costs and less polluting emissions. On the downside, the researchers don’t really know what will happen when they increase the amount of “ship tracks” to levels needed to cool off hotspots like the coast of California, Chile or south-central Africa. To answer the “What could possibly go wrong?” question, the project will entail three phases: aerosol spray development and testing, aerosol process experiments, and cloud-brightening experiments. Each will e fully completed before moving to the next phase, and the project will end if they find out what could possibly go wrong.

What could possibly go wrong?

With California redwood forests in danger of being destroyed by wildfires and coastal coral reefs in danger of dying from heat stress, the need for controlling climate change is urgent. Could a quick fix like “sea salting” clouds give us humans enough time to enact major changes … or will it give us an excuse to kick the climate change ball to another generation?

What could possibly go wrong?

Now what I suspect is that the sun is illuminating these objects these UFO's if you will so we can see them as they pass by? Jupiter just got smacked by a space rock and an amateur astronomer caught it on camera

Jupiter got whacked again.

Brazilian observer José Luis Pereira captured a bright flash on the solar system's largest planet Monday night (Sept. 13), memorializing the fiery death of a space rock high in the Jovian atmosphere.

"I am an assiduous planetary observer," Pereira told Space.com in a written statement Tuesday (Sept. 14). "When the planets Jupiter, Saturn and Mars are in opposition, I try to make images in every possible night of clear skies. Especially [of] the planet Jupiter, my favorite."

On Sunday (Sept. 12) and Monday, Pereira set up his equipment in São Caetano do Sul, in the southeastern Brazilian state of São Paulo. As on many other nights, he aimed to photograph Jupiter and capture videos for the DeTeCt program, which seeks to spot and characterize impacts on the giant planet. 

The weather didn't look like it would cooperate on Monday night, but Pereira persevered, collecting a series of 25 Jupiter videos, with no time gap between them. 

"To my surprise, in the first video I noticed a different glow on the planet, but I didn't pay much attention to it as I thought it might be something related to the parameters adopted, and I continued watching normally," Pereira wrote. "So as not to stop the captures in progress for fear that weather conditions would worsen, I didn't check the first video."

He fed the videos into the DeTeCt program and then went to bed.

"I checked the result only on the morning of the 14th, when the program alerted me to the high probability of impact and verified that there was indeed a record in the first video of the night," Pereira wrote. 

He then sent the information to Marc Delcroix of the French Astronomical Society, who confirmed that Pereira had indeed recorded footage of an impact that occurred Monday at 6:39 p.m. EDT (2239 GMT).

"For me it was a moment of great emotion, as I have been looking for a record of [such an] event for many years," Pereira wrote.

His observing setup consists of the following, he added: a Newtonian Telescope 275mm f/5,3 with a QHY5III462C camera, plus a Televue Powermate 5x (f/26,5) eyepiece and an IRUV cut filter. A big, frequently battered planet

Because it orbits close to the main asteroid belt and features a powerful gravitational pull, Jupiter gets pummeled fairly often. In July 1994, for example, fragments of the broken-apart Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 famously slammed into Jupiter, creating big bruises in the planet's thick atmosphere that lasted for months.

Those scars opened a rare window into Jupiter below the cloud tops, and professional astronomers took advantage of the opportunity. They studied the impact sites with a variety of powerful telescopes, fleshing out our understanding of the gas giant's atmospheric composition.

Another high-profile smashup occurred 15 years later, when an impactor punched a scar the size of the Pacific Ocean into Jupiter's swirling air. Like the Shoemaker-Levy 9 lesions, that blemish lingered long enough for professional astronomers to mobilize.

But it doesn't look like they'll get that chance with the newly observed impact.

"The site is clearly resolved and no visible scar was left (just as with previous impact flash events.) The object was probably too small to reach the deeper atmosphere," astrophotographer Damian Peach wrote on Twitter Wednesday, where he posted a gorgeous photo of a healed-up Jupiter taken an hour after it was hit.

Giant Explosion On Planet Jupiter! Sept 13, 2021, Video, UFO Sighting News.

Jose Luis Pereira was using his telescope and recording Jupiter when he caught something fantastic. A huge glow suddenly appears and then is gone on the surface of the planet. This could be a meteor, but I see no sign of a meteor incoming, no tail, no glowing from hitting Jupiters atmosphere. Thats really odd to me and tells me that this is not a meteor from space. However I do notice that the explosion seems to come from the planet itself. I believe that an alien bomb of some type has detonated, or some high tech energy buildings similar to our nuclear reactors, but far more advanced with an energy we cannot yet comprehend has exploded. This tells me that Jupiter is inhabited and the clouds around it could very well be from such detonations across its surface. Are they are war? Or are the detonations an accident? Only one way to find out...is to travel there.

UFO Fleet During Storm Over Montpellier, France Sept 16, 2021, UFO Sighting News.

This was sent to me this weekend. A lighting storm began over Montpellier, France on Sept 16th and someone went outside and noticed some glowing lights flying in the shape of a figure eight or...the infinity symbol. The lights are not made by spotlights, which would not be active during an electrical storm. Each light is different in shape and slightly different movement. 

 

I have experienced a similar encounter once in Taiwan. These are energy entities...which can see people who are on the ground and they are highly intelligent. They are visible sometimes at night, especially on overcast nights. Here the entities are absorbing the lightning energy...almost feasting on it, as one would food. I think this helps them stay active. This video is 100% proof that energy entities do exist and they move above our cities freely.

Strange UFO sighting over North Carolina 15-Sep-2021

 Not exactly sure what we saw it was 6 lights in a v shape some what it came down from the sky this happened 3 times in an hour I have never seen something like this before it appears to hover there was like a star lookin thing above it that whatver those lights are came from I think it’s just odd and I’d like an opinion on what it is as the map shows there is ocean and some land where I saw.

NASA has just revealed that there were once thousands of “super eruptions” from volcanoes on Mars. They were able to confirm this based on evidence found at a location called Arabia Terra in the northern part of the planet. These “super eruptions” occurred approximately 4 billion years ago and lasted for a period of about 500 million years.

These massive eruptions released a gigantic amount of molten rock and gas that ended up covering the surface of the planet for thousands of miles with a thick blanket of ash. To understand this better, the molten rock and gas that was spewed out of the volcano was equivalent to 400 million Olympic-size swimming pools. After the eruptions occurred, the volcanoes collapsed, creating a massive hole called a “caldera”.

Patrick Whelley, who is a geologist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and who led the Arabia Terra analysis, went into further details, “Each one of these eruptions would have had a significant climate impact — maybe the released gas made the atmosphere thicker or blocked the Sun and made the atmosphere colder.”

At first, scientists thought that the depressions were the cause of asteroids impacting the planet; however, they found that they were not roundly shaped, causing them to wonder whether they were in fact ancient calderas. At that point, Whelley and his colleagues, with help from Alexandra Matiella Novak, who is a volcanologist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, searched for evidence of volcanic ash from Arabia Terra by using images from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

They were able to find volcanic minerals that were turned into clay from water (these included montmorillonite, imogolite, and allophone) in canyon walls and craters located as far away as thousands of miles from the calderas. Furthermore, the layers of ash were exceptionally well preserved as if it had just happened.

This new research, combined with a previous study conducted in 2013 that originally found the calderas, allowed the experts to confirm that there were thousands of powerful eruptions. But this is only the beginning as Jacob Richardson, who is a geologist at NASA Goddard and who worked with both Whelley and Novak, stated, “People are going to read our paper and go, ‘How? How could Mars do that? How can such a tiny planet melt enough rock to power thousands of super eruptions in one location?’” “I hope these questions bring about a lot of other research.” This latest research was published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters where it can be read in full.

Russisch team klaar voor productie van allereerste film in de ruimte

Een Russisch team van twee kosmonauten en twee professionele filmmakers reist begin volgende maand naar het internationale ruimtestation ISS, voor de productie van de eerste film die in de ruimte gemaakt wordt. Dat deelde de bemanning vandaag mee.

Het viertal vertrekt op 5 oktober met een Sojoez MS-19-ruimtecapsule. Die brengt hen dan naar het ISS, dat op 354 kilometer hoogte rondom de aarde cirkelt.

“Deze film vertelt het verhaal van een gewone mens. Een arts die niets te maken had met ruimteverkenning en er zelfs nooit aan dacht, krijgt het aanbod om naar het ISS te reizen en het leven van een kosmonaut te redden,” vertelde regisseur en acteur Klim Shipenko vandaag op een persconferentie, voor de bemanning richting de Baikonur-kosmodroom in Kazachstan vertrok.

Ook de professionele kosmonauten zullen in de film te zien zijn. “Ik zal niet de hoofdrol spelen, maar ik zal toch moeten uitzoeken hoe een film wordt gemaakt in zo’n ongewone plek als de ruimte,” reageerde commandant Anton Shkaplerov.

Hoofdrolspeelster Julia Peresild doet voor de gelegenheid haar eigen make-up en styling. “Het zal niet op hetzelfde niveau zijn als op aarde, maar we zullen ons best doen. We zijn er klaar voor,” zei ze. Bang is ze niet. “Het is een beetje te laat om bang te zijn, want we zijn zo ver gekomen. Er is nog veel te doen en om eerlijk te zijn, er is gewoon geen tijd meer voor angst.”

Regisseur Shipenko is 1m90 groot en zijn lengte maakt het trainen in het ruimtetuig - en de komende reis - niet erg comfortabel. Maar in de toekomst zullen er aanpassingen worden gedaan, zei hij. “Het is oké. Ik vlieg nu zoals het is, maar als we het vervolg doen over reizen naar Mars, dan beloven ze dat de zitplaats beter zal zijn.”

SpaceX: “Ruimtetoeristen Inspiration4 zijn gelukkig en in goede gezondheid”

De missie die de naam Inspiration4 kreeg, is de eerste volledig commerciële bemande ruimtevlucht.
Het vaartuig komt maximaal 540 kilometer van de aarde. De laatste keer dat mensen zo ver weg gingen, was in 2009. Na een verblijf van ongeveer drie dagen in de ruimte keren de bemanningsleden terug op aarde. Het vaartuig plonst dan, hangend aan een parachute, in de Atlantische Oceaan.

Helicopter scrambled after Cheadle engineer told cops what he saw

A police helicopter was drafted in to help search for a mystery object spotted falling from the sky in North Staffordshire.

But the bright ellipse – seen by a member of the public - had vanished by the time they got there. All that remained were freshly damaged branches of trees.

The incident in woodland near Ipstones was reported to police back in July 1991.

Now we have delved into The Sentinel archives to find this and other UFO files.

Mark Lees, an engineer from Cheadle, had been visiting friends when the falling object appeared on the Churnet Valley skyline.

“It was not a light, but appeared metallic, possibly aluminium. It was broad daylight at the time.

“I clearly saw it go down in the trees, with the backdrop of the valley side behind me. It did not appear to be revolving in any way and followed a constant line.”

Mr Lees described it as around 10 feet long, elliptical and ‘very, very bright’. He returned to the scene in search of the object, but could find nothing.

He said: “There were places we could not reach because of the boggy ground and the thickness of the undergrowth.”

Police launched a major search and the helicopter crew uncovered the damaged branches.

PC Mick Powles, of Cheadle police, said: “From the evidence we have, we believe something did come down, but we do not know what it was.”

Reports of UFOs in North Staffordshire and South Cheshire had soared just a year or so before the Ipstones incident.

Back in summer 1990, we reported on figures from the Cheshire UFO Studies Centre in Earle Street, Crewe. Its team had received 120 calls via a 24-hour hotline in just 12 months – a rise of 20 per cent on the previous year.

Most of the sightings concerned mystery lights in the night sky over Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford and Crewe.

Investigations by the centre’s experts ruled out the vast majority of the lights as UFOs, with most traced to aircraft or satellites.

But in 1990, they were immersed in a six-month inquiry after two separate callers reported a close encounter with a 35ft ‘bright object with a glowing centre’. It was spotted in a field near the South Cheshire village of Audlem before vanishing.

Centre chairman Eric Morris said at the time: “Most of the people who call are genuine and many are worried or frightened by what they have seen.

“After inquiries with the RAF, the Ministry of Defence, airports, and interviewing witnesses, we can explain about 95 per cent of the strange things people see. But there are still the rest which remain a mystery.

One incident in South Cheshire in 1993 later turned out to be something less than sinister.

But it certainly spooked the public as hundreds of callers jammed the police switchboard. They reported white orbs appearing and then disappearing over a period of several hours.

Some roads were blocked, and lay-bys along the A500 were full of parked cars, as drivers went to watch the spectacle.

Police soon cracked the case. The orbs were laser lights being used for a 1940s-themed event at Rookery Hall Hotel at Worleston, near Nantwich.

Manager Philip Parker was amazed at the public response.

He said: “We had hundreds and hundreds of families following the lights. They travelled from as far as Hanley and Tarporley. It was absolutely incredible.”

Something big Just hit Jupiter!

In 1994, the Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 (SL9) impacted Jupiter, which had captured the comet shortly before (and broken apart by its gravity). The event became a media circus as it was the first direct observation of an extraterrestrial collision of Solar System objects. The impact was so powerful that it left scars that endured for months and were more discernible than Jupiter’s Great Red Spot.

Since then, astronomers have observed multiple objects impacting Jupiter, and it is expected that such impacts happen all the time (though unobserved). On September 13^th, 2021, at 22:39:30 UTC (06:39:30 PM EDT; 03:39 PM:30 PDT), another impact was observed by multiple astronomers across the world. Images and a video of the impact (shown below) were captured by members of Société Lorraine d’Astronomie (SLA) in France.

The impact was reported by Brazilian amateur astronomer Jose Luis Pereira and confirmed a day later by Harald Paleske from Langendorf, Germany. At the time, Paleske had been taking a video of the transit of Io’s shadow when the event occurred, which appeared as a two-second flash. Upon reviewing the footage, he ruled out the possibility that the event happened closer to Earth (with Jupiter merely being the backdrop).

After a thorough examination, Paleske determined that the impact happened at Jovian latitude 106.9° (CM1), longitude +3.8°, and timed it to 22:39:27 UTC on Sept. 13^th. The impact was independently observed by two teams of French amateur astronomers with the SLA. According to a statement issued by the SLA, the two teams consisted of:

“Jean-Paul Arnould from his observatory in Villey-le-sec with the C11 telescope of the SLA [and] a team made up of Thibaut Humbert, Stéphane Barré, Alexis Desmougin, and Didier Walliang at the Astroqueyras observatory in Saint-Véran, with the 62 cm diameter telescope Other people around the world have observed the same phenomenon. This is the first time that so many people (currently 9) have captured this type of event.”

Thanks to the DeTeCt software/project, the amateur and professional astronomical community was issued a wide alert that allowed for rapid responses. All across the world, instruments that were aimed at Jupiter were consulted to see if they also recorded the light flash on the Jovian gas giant. The SLA also sent the data to Marc Delcroix, a Senior Research Scientist at the NTT Communication Science Laboratories‘ Media Information Laboratory in Kyoto, Japan.

Based on the images and video provided observers, the object’s diameter is estimated at 20 meters (ft). Similar to what happened with SL-9, this object is believed to be the remnant of a larger comet or asteroid that was captured by Jupiter’s gravity that broke up shortly before the impact took place. This information and any updates on the event can be found at Delcroix’s website, who indicated that this impact could be the brightest ever observed by amateur astronomers (save for the SL-9 impact).

“Aside Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 impacts in 1994, never an impact was so well covered!” he wrote. Over the coming days and weeks, Delcroix and the astronomical community will examine the amateur videos to learn more about the lightcurves the impact generated. From this, they hope to obtain information on the amount of energy released, the dynamics of the impact, the physical characteristics of the impactor itself.

“Many thanks to every amateur who was implied in this event, whether discovering it, observing it, looking for it in his capture without finding it, or spreading the alert (there were hundreds of shares). Special thanks to the amateurs of the French astrosurf forums who helped me a lot to find out information on discoveries or new observations. We amateurs demonstrated our force as a community, showed our motivation, dedication and experience through this great event!”

This event beautifully illustrates how far astronomy has come in recent years. Whereas impacts with Jupiter were once thought to be rare, they are now understood to be a regular occurrence. With modern opportunities for data-sharing, networking, and collaboration between amateurs and professionals, events that would have otherwise gone unnoticed are being detected with regular frequency. That’s how vital research and discoveries happen!

UFO Study: Washington State Had 3rd Most Sightings Of 2020

Washington may be more famous for the Sasquatch, but it's no stranger to alien sightings.

PHOENIX, AZ — Big news for paranormal researchers, truth-seekers and fans of the strange and occult: Arizona is one of the country's hot spots for UFO sightings, according to a new report.

For its study, GambleOnline says it searched through data from the National UFO Reporting Center show that Arizona had the ninth most UFO sightings of 2020, with 222 sightings logged. California was No. 1 with 619 sightings, followed by Florida with 398, Washington with 368, Texas with 297, New York with 289, Ohio with 239 and Oregon with 236.

Other highlights from the study include:

1. Lights are the most common type of UFO reported

Mysterious lights made up 1,777 of last year's UFO sightings, according to the National UFO Reporting Center, making them far and away the most common type of UFO. The second most common were circles, with 886 sightings, and spheres, with 444 sightings. The least common sighting was the lowly cone-shaped UFO, only spotted 14 times.

2. Most sightings come between 8 p.m. and midnight

It may seem like common sense — it's much harder to see mysterious lights during the daytime, after all — but 40 percent of UFO sightings happen between 8 p.m. and midnight. If you'd rather not endure the hassle of experiencing a mysterious and world-shattering phenomenon, the best time to be out and about is from noon to 4 p.m., when UFO sightings are scarce.

3. Spring is UFO season

If you're an amateur alien hunter, spring is the best time to get out there. Researchers found that April and March had by far the most sightings, with 1,045 and 828 UFO reports respectively. December had the least sightings with 370.

Interestingly July is a relatively average month for UFO sightings, despite the fact that July 2 is UFO Awareness Day — you'd think people might step up their sky-gazing game.

4. The average UFO sighting lasts 19 minutes

UFO sightings in media tend to be blink-and-you-miss-it, but in real life, the UFOs hang around. Most UFOs (38 percent) stuck around for between one to five minutes, but 11 percent hang out for more than half an hour. Another 11 percent stuck around for 16 to 30 minutes, making the average sighting 19 minutes long.

“Ancestral aliens are hibernating throughout the universe,” study states

According to a study published in the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society, there are “ancient alien civilizations” that traveled the cosmos.

Even and possibly our Milky Way, but now they would find themselves in a state of “self-imposed hibernation”, waiting for a moment when the universe in which we live changes physically.

According to these statements, advanced extraterrestrial civilizations would find themselves in a period of deep self-imposed hibernation.

They would be waiting for a future where the universe is much colder than it is today, in order to harness some type of energy that is currently not available to anyone.

According to the Fermi paradox , the universe is a supermassive place in which billions of stars and planets are home to countless developed and undeveloped extraterrestrial civilizations.

Where Earth is just one of many planets that can support life … But if there are so many alien civilizations, how come we haven’t officially found them?

The reality is that even if the universe is populated by alien civilizations, there is no way to get in touch with them.

Unless they live in the Milky Way, it would be difficult to find traces of aliens, due to the expansion of space.

“It would take billions of years to get to these civilizations, and obviously we don’t have that kind of technology yet.”

However, there may be an explanation for all the confusion about aliens and why we haven’t found them yet.

Two Oxford University neuroscientists named Anders Sandberg and Stuart Armstrong, along with Milan Čirković of the Belgrade Astronomical Observatory in Serbia, have suggested that alien civilizations are in a self-imposed “hibernation” period.

That is, they are waiting for a future in which the Universe is colder than it is today in order to achieve a type of processing energy that cannot be achieved today.

Smart .. right?

The research was accepted for publication in the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society and establishes how conditions in our universe are simply too warm for a computer-based digital super civilization that has entered a state of hibernation of estivation, waiting for a time when the universe is much colder.

Scientists argue that more advanced civilizations may have already traveled the universe and are waiting for a better time to live and expand.

In the words of Sandberg and Kirikvić, “the cosmic background of our universe is three Kevin degrees above absolute 0, and as the universe expands, the average temperature will decrease exponentially.”

So “if you want to accumulate as much processing information with the energy you have, it makes sense to wait. It will be exponentially better ”.

The researchers explain that billions of years from now, when the cosmic background radiation of the universe is reduced to practically nothing.

Mainly due to the expansion rates of the universe and the extinction of stars, information processing will be achievable at a rate 1030 greater than what we can achieve today.

“An advanced ‘alien’ civilization may have explored a large part of the universe, done what is feasible with existing nature, and now mostly has internal ‘cultural’ things to do,” Sandberg explains on his blog.

“These things can be thought of as information processing.

If an alien civilization wants to maximize processing, they should not do it today, but wait until the cold future, when they will get so much more. Therefore, they should hibernate ”.

If this theory is true, it would mean that ancient alien civilizations are real and that they traveled through the universe and possibly even our galaxy, but are now extremely difficult to find.

Mysterious booms are back in the news in Clarksville, Tennessee, and in Helsinki, Sweden, and after many days with no explanations, residents are demanding answers while their imaginations and fears run wild. Secret weapons? Climate change? Aliens?

“The 911 Dispatch Center received numerous calls around 9:50 pm last night (9/4/21) about a “loud explosion” being heard and several individuals reported that they felt the “ground shake”. The sound was heard across many parts of Montgomery County but there have been no reports of any injuries or property damage. The Clarksville Police Department, Fire Department, Montgomery County Sheriffs Office and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) searched for a couple of hours but were unable to locate the source. Fort Campbell is on a Four Day weekend due to the Labor Day holiday, and does not appear to be conducting any type of training or exercise.”

If it’s not a sonic boom, what is it?

The Clarksville Police Department investigated the reports coming in from many parts of Montgomery County but uncovered nothing. Numerous surveillance cameras picked up the boom, some witnesses claimed to have seen a bright light like a meteor, and one reported an odd smell, possibly from fireworks set of to celebrate the Labor Day holiday – although most of the reports indicated the explosion was louder than fireworks. However, the U.S. Geological Survey didn’t register any earthquakes or seismic activity at the time. There was speculation it could have been trapped gas exploding (although no craters were found) or dried-up water pockets collapsing (although no sinkholes were found). Crossing those off of the list leaves … aliens? It’s been nearly two weeks with no updates or explanations.

Meanwhile, in Helsinki …

“The current opinion is that it was most likely not caused by a meteor, but of course that can’t be ruled out.”

“In all probability, it was not any type of earthquake. We still have a more detailed analysis of that day [to examine], but we looked at it quickly over the weekend and it doesn’t show any clear [seismic activity] at our stations in Helsinki.”

On September 13th, a loud explosion was reported in the Helsinki neighborhoods of Oulunkylä, Kumpula, Käpylä, Arabia, Kulosaari, Metsälä, Meilahti and Kulosaari at around 11:45pm. Initial speculation centered on earthquake, meteor or military-caused sonic boom, but all of those were quickly ruled out by local authorities, astronomers and military personnel. Seismometers picked up nothing, and investigations found no craters, debris or other evidence of conventional explosions. After four days, the Helsinki boom also has no updates or explanations.

If it’s not a meteor, what is it?

These mysterious booms continue to occur worldwide. In a sense, they have become audio UFOs – Unidentified Audio Occurrences. Like UFOs, many van be explained quickly. Like UFOs, some cannot. Like UFOs, they seem to be increasing. Unlike UFOs, governments and militaries don’t seem to be concerned. Perhaps THAT should be a cause of concern for the rest of us. The mysterious booms are probably not alien related. However, unlike UFOs, the sounds are witnessed by many, physically and psychologically disturbing, and dismissed too easily.

Is it time to move the needle on booms from mysterious to sinister? Is it time for a Department of UAOs?

A new de-extinction company called Colossal that is being led by entrepreneur Ben Lamm and geneticist Dr. George Church say that they are hoping to resurrect the extinct woolly mammoth within the next six years. While the last of the woolly mammoths went extinct about 4,000 years ago, the new plan is to change the genome of Asian elephants in order to create modern mammoths.

In a press release, Lamm discussed their intentions, “Never before has humanity been able to harness the power of this technology to rebuild ecosystems, heal our Earth and preserve its future through the repopulation of extinct animals,” adding, “In addition to bringing back ancient extinct species like the woolly mammoth, we will be able to leverage our technologies to help preserve critically endangered species that are on the verge of extinction and restore animals where humankind had a hand in their demise.”

So, how exactly do they plan on resurrecting the mammoth? They would have to add mammoth genes to DNA from Asian elephants in order to create curved tusks, tinier ears, subcutaneous fat stores, and a thick shaggy coat that would allow them to live in the Arctic Circle. This combination would create an Asian elephant/woolly mammoth hybrid.

There are several issues regarding the resurrection of an already extinct animal as noted by Dr. Victoria Herridge who is a researcher at the National History Museum, “There are a lot of questions raised by this project. The key ethical points are the aspects of animal experimentation and husbandry – what is this creature? Is it a new species? How many do you need?” “Then if they succeed, what will the needs be of an intelligent social creature? And what are our obligations to it?”

There in fact two different ways animals could be resurrected. The first is cloning where the DNA in the cell of one animal is inserted into a fertilized egg and put into a surrogate mother – there hasn’t been a complete mammoth genome that has been found yet so that poses a problem. The second manner is finding individual genes of one animal and inserting them into the genome of another – this could possibly work for bringing the mammoth back as the modified genome would be put into a fertilized elephant egg and then put into a surrogate elephant. Artificial wombs have been suggested but there’s no proof that those would work either.

“At that point you have to start asking questions about the ethics of experimentation on elephants. You won’t know whether or not there is an issue with your chimeric creature until further down the line,” Dr. Herridge pointed out.

As for whether or not resurrecting the woolly mammoth would actually reverse climate change, the company stated that they hope to “re-wild extinct species to their original habitats so they can revitalize lost ecosystems for a healthier planet.” There is a theory that mammoths aided in fighting climate change by bringing back and maintaining the plentiful grassland steppes in the Arctic but after they went extinct, the area turned to forests. Since forests absorb heat from the sun, the grassland would help to cool the planet.

While it would be interesting and a little eerie to see a woolly mammoth roaming around, this new company is focused on bringing even more extinct animals back from the dead – what could possibly go wrong?

An “astonishing anomaly” discovered in Antarctica 3 miles under the ice

Researchers in Antarctica discovered an “astonishing magnetic anomaly” three miles under the ice during a flyby of the continent.

The find was made near Russia’s scientific research station in East Antarctica. In the 1990s, scientists drilled into this area to discover what is known as Lake Vostok .

But their work stopped just short of reaching the water, due to concerns about the deterioration of what could be a “pristine” ecosystem, leaving a number of questions unanswered.

Narrator David Taylor said: ‘In the 1970s, through aerial radar, Russia began to suspect that they had inadvertently built their base on the tip of a large subglacial lake.

“In the years since orbital radar mapping, combined with surface seismological measurements, has confirmed that Lake Vostok, under two miles of solid ice, is the largest lake discovered in the last 100 years.

“About the size of Lake Ontario, but much deeper in places, over 3,000 feet, and about four times the volume.

“The lake, which is still liquid and not frozen, has been isolated under the ice sheets for between 13,000 and 14 million years, depending on who you talk to.

“The water in the lake, determined by thermal scans of the surface, ranges from 10C to 18C, which clearly indicates an underground heat source.”

Mr. Taylor went on to detail exactly what they found in the drilled hole.

“In addition, the entire lake is covered by a sloping dome of air several thousand feet high that is formed by hot water melting the overlapping ice just above the lake’s surface.

‘Core samples taken by the Russians have revealed the presence of microbes, nutrients and various gases such as methane embedded in the clear frozen lake water just above the dome.

“Such elements are typical signatures of biological processes, the lake therefore has all the ingredients of an incredible scientific find – a completely isolated ecosystem, water, heat, breathed gases and current biological activity.

As the actual scope and composition of the lake became apparent, NASA began to see it as an ideal test bed for their plans to drill through the ice and search the oceans of Jupiter’s moon Europa.

The mission was canceled over environmental contamination concerns, but scans of the area since then have revealed something more puzzling.

Mr Taylor explained: “A team of scientists from Columbia University, working under the auspices of the National Science Foundation, began an unprecedented series of low-altitude aerial surveys over Lake Vostok , designed to map gravitational magnetic activity. and thermal under the ice.

As they did so, they made an amazing find.

Those are questions I’ve been getting in the last few months. The sheer level of UFO activity that has been mentioned online and in other media (the only one for me being CNN) has clearly demonstrated that. Frankly, in my view if, tomorrow, the U.S. Government chose to reveal a bunch of dead, mangled, rotted alien bodies before the world, I don’t think that anyone would be worried, scared or even terrified. I think most people would be amazed, and eager to see what aliens really look like. That’s how I feel. But, it hasn’t happened. And, as I see it, there are only two options: (a) there will be disclosure; or (b) there  won’t be disclosure. But you knew that, right? Right! So, here’s how I see it: the reason why we aren’t getting full disclosure is because there’s something that is so monumentally bizarre or terrifying that no-one wants to reveal it. And because no-one in government wants to reveal it. The approach of the government may simply be: “We don’t know how to say it, or how reveal it, so let’s just hide it. Forever. ” I sometimes think that really is why we don’t have disclosure and may never will. Possibly, it can’t be told without fucking up all of human civilization.

I should stress I don’t have any new, secret rumors to support what I’m about to say now. None, at all. But, there is one picture that I believe could be the one that ensures we never get to know the complete, full picture. I’ll say this: I’m not a religious person. I have no particular stance on life after death, deities, gods, Hell, Heaven, reincarnation, and so on. Although, dogs just have to have souls. A greater animal was never created. Far better than us. Like most people, I occasionally wonder about it all, but that hardly makes things any clearer. It just means I occasionally have opinions on such controversies. There is however, one issue – directly related to all that Heaven and Hell stuff  – that I think would be the key issue that would prevent us (all of us) from being informed.  It’s a story that revolves around the human soul. Now and again, I’ve been told of tales concerning the human soul and its supposed links to the UFO subject. I started to get a lot of information on this issue in 2007 when I was researching my book, Final Events, and interviewing a few people from the so-called Collins Elite group.

Some of the C.E. members told me of a belief (not proof) in their ranks that the human soul was suspected of being a form of “fuel” for the black-eyed Grays of Ufology. In simple terms, the scenario was very similar to the picture in The Matrix: that our souls are nothing less than fodder to the aliens. Rather than being reliant on electricity, as is the picture. And, that’s why we can never be told, so it goes for some. Because it’s too terrifying: kind of like the classic words of Charles Fort: “We are someone else’s property.” I didn’t have long and lengthy conversations with the Collins Elite about all of this (I wish I did), but I can say that most of them had bought into that angle of soul-stealing ETs. And, when I did bring it up, it caused a lot of awkwardness. In some cases, fear. I’m hardly religious, but it even made me feel a bit clammy and cold when it was first shared with me.

Of course, there’s nothing new about this theory of aliens really being demons. When, however, you get the picture of it from a guy in his seventies, who worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency, and who was talking, in serious tones, about how the story cannot be told – and while leafing through the pages of Kurt Seligmann’s 1948 book, The Mirror Magic – things start to get a bit serious – and surreal. With that said, let’s take a look at what sounds eerily similar to some of the things I was told from 2007 to 2010. Probably the one person, more than any other, who concludes that the alien presence on our planet is driven by the “soul-scenario” is Nigel Kerner. He has written two books on the subject. They are The Song of the Greys and Grey Aliens and the Harvesting of Souls. Combined, they make a worryingly persuasive argument for the theory that aliens somehow “use” the human soul. Danielle Silverman, Kerner’s assistant, prepared the following for me on his theories and conclusions. She stated that Kerner,  “…went on to delineate a fascinating concept, explaining that a ‘soul’ might be a derivational information field that comes out of a natural cadence that came into the Universe with the big bang. This field holds the power to maintain information in what he called a morphogenetic electro-spatial field with an eternal scope of existence in whatever form circumstance allows. The soul is thus an ancestrally contiguous and coherent mechanism for holding information.”

It’s also worth noting the experience of Sergeant John Healey, of the U.S. Army Reserve. On the night of October 18, 1973, he encountered a brightly-lit UFO, as he and his colleagues were on-board a UH-1H helicopter, rapidly closing in on Cleveland Hopkins, Airport, Ohio. In the aftermath of the encounter – which, in essence, was a near-collision between the two craft – Healey had several weird out-of-body experiences, as he told to UFO investigator, Jennie Zeidman. It was, he explained, as if he was dead in his bed, and that his spirit was above him, staring down at his sleeping form in the bed. That Sergeant Healey’s experiences occurred not in relation to the abduction phenomenon, but to a UFO sighting, suggests that other components of the UFO issue come into play when it comes to the relationship between UFOs, life after death, and our souls. Notably, several members of the helicopter crew were later contacted by representatives of the Department of Defense, who exhibited interest in – and deep concerns about – the UFO / soul-ingestion angle. This suggests a disturbing scenario: that certain elements of the U.S. Government may know something of the origins and agenda of the paranormal parasites.

It’s a fact that most people who have studied the claims of Bob Lazar focus their attentions on what he had to say about the UFOs allegedly held at S-4, as well as his statements concerning Element 115. There is one issue that doesn’t get the attention that it really should. It’s a part of Lazar’s story which takes things down a path that is filled with disturbing revelations involving the afterlife. One of the many briefing papers that Lazar said he read at S-4 stated that the aliens refer to us, the human race, as what we would call “Containers.” But, containers of what? Well, that’s where things get really controversial. Lazar told KLAS-TV’s George Knapp “religion was created so we have some rules and regulations for the sole purpose of not damaging the containers.” As for the “Containers,” the Knapp-Lazar discussion then went into the matter of human souls and their importance. How much of all this (some of it, all of it, none of it) is true, I have to say I don’t know. What I do know for sure, though, is that there are a lot of people in the U.S. government, and in the U.S. intelligence community, who do believe this is the real picture. And, from their perspective, that’s why we won’t get full disclosure. We’ll get a sanitized-type disclosure. Because, they say, it’s much easier on everyone. A case of what we don’t get won’t hurt us. Until, possibly, it eventually does.

That question was put to me not long ago. It’s an interesting question, too. It took me a while to come up with a conclusion, but I finally did. I would say that the alleged (extremely alleged…) “UFO crash” at Aztec, New Mexico in March 1948 fits the bill. Either that, or it’s a complete pile of garbage. And, in-between, there’s some genuinely strange bits along the way. So, let’s begin. The strange story of the alleged UFO crash at Aztec, New Mexico in March 1948 – and the recovery of a number of dead “little men” at the site – is a real hotbed of lies, disinformation, and shady characters. Most of those same characters were best avoided by those with dollars to spare. The tale was made infamous in the pages of Frank Scully’s 1950 blockbuster, Behind the Flying Saucers; it was a book which turned out to be a huge seller. Today, the Aztec affair is seen by some ufologists as Roswell’s “little brother.” As its “skeleton in the cupboard” might be a far more apt description, however. Many researchers of the UFO phenomenon dismiss the Aztec incident as nothing but a hoax; one which was perpetrated by a shady businessman/conman named Silas Newton. His less-than-shining FBI file can be accessed at the FBI’s website, The Vault. When it came to stories of aliens from faraway worlds, making money was always the goal for Newton. And the only goal. Along for the ride with Newton was Leo Gebauer. He was a quasi-scientist and the Igor to Newton’s ego-driven Dr. Frankenstein.

There is, though, a very interesting and extremely odd aspect to the Newton/Aztec story. It serves to demonstrate how the UFO phenomenon was becoming the tool of manipulative disinformation specialists in the intelligence community. And not just of the Soviet Union. The United States was getting into the strange game, too. Back in 1998, the late Karl Pflock, ufologist and CIA employee (sometimes at the same time…), was approached by a still-anonymous source who had something very interesting to say about the Aztec caper, and about Newton too. It was a decidedly weird series of revelations that Pflock surely never anticipated receiving. To his dying day, Pflock refused to reveal the name of his informant in the shadows – rumors, however, were that the person may have been a nephew of Silas Newton – but, Pflock did say that all of the lunchtime meetings with his source occurred between July 11 and September 24, 1998 and took place in a restaurant in Bernalillo, New Mexico.

So the story goes, Pflock’s informant had in their hands twenty-seven pages taken, or rather torn, from an old and faded, lined journal. No prizes for guessing who that journal had belonged to. That’s right, sly, old Silas Newton. Pflock was told that Newton had kept journals and diaries not just for years, but for decades. They were jammed with entertaining tales of sexual conquests, of Hollywood starlets, of the fleecing of the rich and the gullible, and of wild adventures across the United States. The outcome of all this? Newton decided, around the turn of the 1970s, that it was right about time for him to write-up his version of the Aztec controversy. It would surely have been a definitive page-turner. Death, however, inconveniently intervened in 1972, when Newton passed away in his mid-eighties. What happened to all of those journals is anyone’s guess. As for those few pages that Pflock was allowed to see – and to transcribe word for word – they tell a tale of undeniable weirdness. By his own admittance, and a couple of years after the Aztec story surfaced in Frank Scully’s book, Newton was clandestinely visited by two representatives of “a highly secret U.S. Government entity,” as Pflock carefully and tactfully described it.

Those same representatives of the government told Newton, in no uncertain terms, that they knew his Aztec story was a complete and bald-faced lie. Utter bullshit, in fact. Incredibly, though, they wanted Newton to keep telling the tale to just about anyone and everyone who would listen. This caused Pflock to ponder on an amazing possibility: “Did the U.S. Government or someone associated with it use Newton to discredit the idea of crashed flying saucers so a real captured saucer or saucers could be more easily kept under wraps?” Far more intriguing, though, and highly relevant to the theme of this book, is the next question that Pflock posed: “Was this actually nothing to do with real saucers but instead some sort of psychological warfare operation [italics mine]?” With the Newton revelations in hand, Pflock, no later than 1999, came to believe that back in the early fifties someone in the government, the intelligence community, or the military of the United States – and maybe even a swirling combination of all three – wanted the Aztec story further circulated. The purpose: as a means to try and convince the Russians that the U.S. military had acquired, or captured, alien technology. When, in reality, it had no such thing in its possession at all. Now, you see why I consider the Aztec affair of March 1948 to have been the most complicated UFO case of all time.

Researchers believe they may have identified the oldest-known work of art — a sequence of five hand and footprints thought to date back up to 226,000 years.

According to researchers led from China's Guangzhou University, the impressions are at least 3–4 times older than the cave paintings of France, Indonesia and Spain. 

Found in 2018 on a rocky outcrop in Quesang, on the Tibetan Plateau, the prints may have been 'prehistoric graffiti' left by young Denisovan children, the team have said.

WHO EXACTLY MADE THE PRINTS? 

Based on uranium series dating, the researchers have determined that the prints must have left between 169,000–226,000 years ago.

And measurements of the prints have led the team to conclude that the footprints were made by a child of around seven and the handprints one of more like 12 years of age.

It is not certain which species of humans made the prints — but Denisovans are a reasonable bet, given the finding of their skeletal remains elsewhere on the Tibetan plateau.

To help with the question of whether the prints constituted art, the team turned to archaeologist Thomas Urban of New York's Cornell University, whose research has included a study of human footprint's in New Mexico's White Sands National Park.

The first clue, he explained, came from the fact that the prints were pressed into travertine — a form of terrestrial limestone that is deposited in the vicinity of hot springs — that would have then hardened gradually over time.

'It would have been a slippery, sloped surface,' noted Mr Urban. 

'You wouldn’t really run across it. Somebody didn’t fall like that. So why create this arrangement of prints? There’s not a utilitarian explanation for these. So what are they?'

'My angle was, can we think of these as a creative behaviour, something distinctly human. The interesting side of this is that it’s so early.'

'These young kids saw this medium and intentionally altered it. We can only speculate beyond that.

'This could be a kind of performance, a live show — like, somebody says, "hey, look at me, I’ve made my handprints over these footprints." '

According to the team, the presence of the handprints ties the Tibetan impressions to a long tradition of art involving the stencilling of hands of cave walls.

Dated to between 169,000–226,000 years ago, however, the Quesang art panel is much older than its more famous peers.

Art found on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and in Spain's El Castillo cave, for example, date back to around 40,000–45,000 years ago, while the the Chauvet cave paintings of France are only some 30,000 years old.

Of course, some connoisseurs might bristle at the very notion that the Quesang prints in and of themselves constitute art.

'Different camps have specific definitions of art that prioritize various criteria,' Mr Urban commented. 

He continued: 'But I would like to transcend that and say there can be limitations imposed by these strict categories that might inhibit us from thinking more broadly about creative behaviour.

'I think we can make a solid case that this is not utilitarian behaviour. There’s something playful, creative, possibly symbolic about this.

'This gets at a very fundamental question of what it actually means to be human.' 

The full findings of the study were published in the journal Science Bulletin.

THE DENISOVANS EXPLAINED

Who were they?

The Denisovans are an extinct species of human that appear to have lived in Siberia and even down as far as southeast Asia.

The individuals belonged to a genetically distinct group of humans that were distantly related to Neanderthals but even more distantly related to us. 

Although remains of these mysterious early humans have mostly been discovered at the Denisova Cave in the Altai Mountains in Siberia, DNA analysis has shown the ancient people were widespread across Asia. 

Scientists were able to analyse DNA from a tooth and from a finger bone excavated in the Denisova cave in southern Siberia.

The discovery was described as 'nothing short of sensational.' 

In 2020, scientists reported Denisovan DNA in the Baishiya Karst Cave in Tibet.

This discovery marked the first time Denisovan DNA had been recovered from a location that is outside Denisova Cave. 

How widespread were they?

Researchers are now beginning to find out just how big a part they played in our history. 

DNA from these early humans has been found in the genomes of modern humans over a wide area of Asia, suggesting they once covered a vast range.

They are thought to have been a sister species of the Neanderthals, who lived in western Asia and Europe at around the same time.

The two species appear to have separated from a common ancestor around 200,000 years ago, while they split from the modern human Homo sapien lineage around 600,000 years ago.

Last year researchers even claimed they could have been the first to reach Australia.

Aboriginal people in Australia contain both Neanderthal DNA, as do most humans, and Denisovan DNA.

This latter genetic trace is present in Aboriginal people at the present day in much greater quantities than any other people around the world.

 How advanced were they?

Bone and ivory beads found in the Denisova Cave were discovered in the same sediment layers as the Denisovan fossils, leading to suggestions they had sophisticated tools and jewellery.

Professor Chris Stringer, an anthropologist at the Natural History Museum in London, said: 'Layer 11 in the cave contained a Denisovan girl's fingerbone near the bottom but worked bone and ivory artefacts higher up, suggesting that the Denisovans could have made the kind of tools normally associated with modern humans.

'However, direct dating work by the Oxford Radiocarbon Unit reported at the ESHE meeting suggests the Denisovan fossil is more than 50,000 years old, while the oldest 'advanced' artefacts are about 45,000 years old, a date which matches the appearance of modern humans elsewhere in Siberia.'

Did they breed with other species?

Yes. Today, around 5 per cent of the DNA of some Australasians – particularly people from Papua New Guinea – is Denisovans.

Now, researchers have found two distinct modern human genomes - one from Oceania and another from East Asia - both have distinct Denisovan ancestry.

The genomes are also completely different, suggesting there were at least two separate waves of prehistoric intermingling between 200,000 and 50,000 years ago.

Researchers already knew people living today on islands in the South Pacific have Denisovan ancestry.

But what they did not expect to find was individuals from East Asia carry a uniquely different type.

A popular sketch on The Late Show with David Letterman was “Is This Anything?”, where the host and the bandleader Paul Shaffer watched an individual or group perform an unusual stunt, then discussed whether the act was “something” or “nothing.” Archeologists excavating artifacts often seem to engage in a similar game as they attempt to figure out what is historically or monetarily valuable and what is just old stuff. A good example of this ‘game’ took place recently on the Tibetan Plateau with the discovery of hand and footprints on a wall that date back to the middle of the Pleistocene era, between 169,000 and 226,000 years ago. That’s significant, but it becomes game-changing as archeologists play a game that might be called, ‘Is This Art’? The answer could determine of this is the oldest artwork ever found or just cave kids having fun.

“The question is: What does this mean? How do we interpret these prints? They’re clearly not accidentally placed. There’s not a utilitarian explanation for these. So what are they? My angle was, can we think of these as an artistic behavior, a creative behavior, something distinctly human. The interesting side of this is that it’s so early.”

Are handprints art?

Thomas Urban, research scientist in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell and co-author of the paper, “Earliest Parietal Art: Hominin Hand and Foot Traces from the Middle Pleistocene of Tibet,” published in Science Bulletin, tells Phys.org about his analysis of five footprints and five handprints found on a rocky promontory at Quesang on the Tibetan Plateau in 2018. The prints were found in travertine, a freshwater limestone that was soft when they were made but hardened over time. While footprints are common, handprints are rare, and Urban suspected these were examples of parietal (immobile) art similar to hand stenciling often found on prehistoric cave walls – and the children who made them had a purpose in mind. The oldest confirmed examples of prehistoric art are found on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and in the El Castillo cave in Spain and date to between 40,000 and 45,000 years ago. The famous Chauvet cave paintings in France are 30,000 years old. If the Tibetan hand and footprints are deemed to be real works of art, their age of 169,000 to 226,000 years almost pushes the others into the Museum of Modern Art, not the Museum of Natural History. Once that question is decided, an even bigger one looms. Study co-authors Matthew Bennett, Professor of Environmental and Geographical Sciences at Bournemouth University, and Sally Reynolds, Principal Academic in Hominin Palaeoecology at Bournemouth University, ask it in The Conversation:

“Were the children members of our own species, Homo sapiens, or members of another extinct archaic human species? There is nothing in the tracks to resolve this question. They may have been an enigmatic group of archaic humans referred to as the Denisovans, given other recent skeletal finds of this species on the plateau.”

As we learn more about the Denisovans, the Neanderthals and other potential archaic humans, we find more reasons to consider them as peers rather than less intelligent – and artistic — hominins.

It may have started 226,000 years ago, but there’s still a need for art in our modern world. Teach art in schools again!

Strange Orange Orbs Seen Flying In Formation In Baltimore Believed To Be UFOs

Social media users suggested the lights may have been UFOs or lanterns

According to The Sun, Scott posted the footage online to seek out some answers as to what he had caught on video. A wave of comments surprised him as her came to know that other social media users claimed to have witnessed identical sightings recently in Washington DC, Las Vegas, St. Louis, Detroit and other cities across the United States. Symkai even heard from someone in Scotland saying they had seen the same lights.

One person from northern California stated that he had seen about 30 of these orbs traveling slowly in a single file line and then vanished in just seconds. Skeptical netizens suggested the lights Scott saw could have been drones, police helicopters or even Chinese floating lanterns. However, he argued that if these were lanterns, they were “awfully coordinated to keep steady in that type of formation.” 

Scott also disputed the possibility that they were police helicopters because these usually make a noticeable noise, citing that the floating orange UFOs were silent. As he recalled his experience, the stunned man said the lights had a very distinctive orange glow to them, counting around six or seven big bright orbs. “I also thought they were awfully bright to be seen under the street lights in the city. You can see the glare from the street lights in the video,” Scott said.

The lights suddenly vanished quickly after he stopped filming and rushed inside his building to share what he witnessed to a friend. Openly admitting that he is a believer in the existence of extraterrestrial beings, Scott is not the only witness to these phenomena happening across America.

UFO sightings are not uncommon around the globe and the US is home to many such instances. Alleged sightings of strange lights, spaceships and even a plethora of alien abduction tales have been gaining much publicity and attention in recent years.

Just last month, a series of bright flickering lights were reportedly seen across Tennessee flying in random patterns. A video clip of the sighting was uploaded to Reddit leaving users baffled and locked in debate as to what these lights could be. At the same time, a UFO was spotted near the International Space Station during a live feed. The object was described to be a white, cylinder-shaped device that was seen on the same day that "high-speed" objects were caught hovering near NASA's International Space Station.

The question of “Are we alone?” has long been the big UFO debate, privy only to American politics and top tier government officials. However, since the Pentagon published reports of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, this marked a turning point after US military and intelligence officials examined more than 140 alleged sightings bringing lawmakers much concern on issues of security risks to the US.

Triangle-shaped UFO during a storm over Brazil TODAY!

This huge triangle-shaped UFO was caught on a tape, filmed from a car in Itaquaquecetuba, also simply called Itaquá, a municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. This happened today (16th September 2021).

RENNENDE BEERDIERTJES WETEN ONDERZOEKERS BEHOORLIJK TE VERRASSEN

Dat beerdiertjes kunnen lopen, is al heel verrassend. Maar nu blijken ze ook nog op een heel opmerkelijke manier te rennen!

Beerdiertjes mogen zich regelmatig in de aandacht van wetenschappers verheugen. En dat is ook niet zo gek. De amper 0,5 millimeter lange diertjes spreken namelijk nogal tot de verbeelding, omdat ze zoveel kunnen hebben. Zo kun je ze 30 jaar invriezen en er vervolgens getuige van zijn dat ze – na ontdooiing – hun leven gewoon weer oppakken. Ook zijn ze tijdens ruimtereizen bestand gebleken tegen vacuüm en kosmische straling. En toen onderzoekers ze recent in een speciaal geweer stopten om ze af te vuren, konden de beerdiertjes dat ook gewoon navertellen.

Aan de wandel
Maar ook buiten extreme experimenten om weten de beerdiertjes ons te verrassen. En wel wanneer ze aan de wandel gaan. Wetenschappers van de Rockefeller University legden enkele beerdiertjes onder de microscoop om eens in detail vast te kunnen leggen hoe de diertjes zich nu precies voortbewegen. En wat blijkt? Ze verplaatsen zich op dezelfde manier als insecten, die vele malen groter zijn. “De overeenkomsten tussen de wijze waarop zij zich voortbewegen en de wijze waarop veel grotere insecten en gewervelden dat doen, roept enkele heel interessante vragen op,” aldus onderzoeker Jasmine Nirody.

Pootjes
Dankzij eerder onderzoek wisten we al dat beerdiertjes uitgerust zijn met piepkleine pootjes. En dat is op zichzelf al heel opmerkelijk. “Als we kijken naar dieren die over pootjes beschikken, zijn beerdiertjes om twee redenen heel uniek,” zo vertelt Nirody aan Scientias.nl. “Allereerst vanwege hun omvang.” Beerdiertjes zijn met een lengte van 0,5 millimeter heel klein. “Normaal gesproken kiezen dieren die zo klein zijn een andere, efficiëntere manier om zich voort te bewegen.” Wat daarnaast opvalt, is dat de beerdiertjes – in tegenstelling tot veel andere dieren met pootjes – tot de ongewervelden behoren en dus een zacht lichaam hebben. “Dieren die een zacht lichaam hebben (zoals bijvoorbeeld ook wormen of slakken) kruipen vaak over de grond en moeten het zonder pootjes doen.” Maar beerdiertjes hebben dus wel pootjes. Acht stuks, om precies te zijn. En daarmee kunnen ze zich prima voortbewegen door water, op het land en onder de grond. Een analyse van de wijze waarop een beerdiertje zijn pootjes gebruikt, levert nu echter nóg een verrassing op.

Rennen als insecten
Nirody en collega’s legden de beerdiertjes onder de microscoop en keken toe. “Als je ze lang genoeg onder een microscoop legt, kun je een breed scala aan gedragingen observeren. We dwongen ze niet om iets te doen. Soms waren ze heel ontspannen en wandelden ze wat rond. En soms zagen ze iets en renden er naartoe.” En zodra de onderzoekers dat zagen gebeuren, werd het interessant. “Wanneer gewervelden in plaats van lopen, gaan rennen, is er sprake van discontinuïteit,” vertelt Nirody. Een bekend voorbeeld daarvan is bijvoorbeeld het paard, dat in draf of galop een heel ander stappenpatroon kent dan wanneer het rustig loopt. Insecten doen dat anders. Wanneer zij sneller gaan lopen, houden ze hetzelfde stappenpatroon aan. Ze versnellen alleen. En de onderzoekers zagen hetzelfde gebeuren bij het beerdiertje. Wanneer het haast kreeg, bleef het de pootjes op dezelfde manier, maar dan wat versneld, neerzetten.

Groter en harder
Het is opmerkelijk, omdat insecten zo heel anders zijn dan deze beerdiertjes. Zo zijn ze allereerst veel groter (wel 500.000 groter!). En ten tweede is het beerdiertje zacht, terwijl alle insecten gekenmerkt worden door een hard exoskelet.

Vervolgonderzoek
Een verklaring voor deze overeenkomst tussen beerdiertjes en insecten is er nog niet. Mogelijk delen beerdiertjes en insecten zoals fruitvliegjes en mieren een voorouder en zijn ze uitgerust met een vergelijkbaar neuraal netwerk. Een andere mogelijkheid is dat beerdiertjes en insecten hun tred onafhankelijk van elkaar verkregen hebben. Beide hypothesen zijn intrigerend, vindt Nirody. “Als er een voorouderlijk neuraal systeem is dat de tred van alle Panarthropoda (een niet onomstreden clade die geleedpotigen, mosbeertjes en fluweelwormen omvat, red.) controleert, dan valt er nog veel te leren. Maar aan de andere kant: als geleedpotigen en waterdiertjes onafhankelijk van elkaar op deze strategie zijn uitgekomen, dan valt er weer veel meer te zeggen over wat deze aanpak zo aantrekkelijk maakt voor soorten die in uiteenlopende omgevingen leven.”

Over de tred van rennende beerdiertjes is het laatste dan ook nog niet gezegd. “Ik wil er graag verder over nadenken en deze theorieën testen.” Dat laatste is echter nog niet zo gemakkelijk. “De beste manier om dit te doen, is door studies zoals die van ons te combineren met moleculair onderzoek, waarbij we kijken naar de onderliggende neurale structuren. Dat moet je vervolgens onder een breed scala aan geleedpotigen doen en combineren met fylogenetische studies die helpen om de evolutie van het onderliggende systeem beter te begrijpen.” Een hele klus. “Maar ik denk dat het de moeite waard is.”

Het geeft namelijk niet alleen meer inzicht in waarom beerdiertjes lopen zoals ze lopen, maar kan ook van pas komen bij de ontwikkeling van zachte micro-robots. “De biomechanische strategie (van beerdiertjes, red.) kan ons veel leren over hoe kleine objecten met een zacht lichaam zich het beste kunnen voortbewegen,” aldus Nirody.
