Philae comet could be home to alien life, say scientists

Astronomers say features of comet landed on by spacecraft in November, such as black crust and icy lakes, suggest living micro-organisms beneath surface

The comet landed on by the spacecraft Philae could well be home to an abundance of alien microbial life, according to leading astronomers.

Features of the comet, named 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, such as its organic-rich black crust, are most likely explained by the presence of living organisms beneath an icy surface, the scientists have said.

Rosetta, the European spacecraft orbiting the comet, is also said to have picked up strange clusters of organic material that resemble viral particles

The European Space Agency pulled off a sensational feat of engineering and captured the imagination of space-travel enthusiasts across the world when Philae landed on the comet in November. Since then, the lander has undergone a period of hibernation from which it awoke in June, having recharged its solar panels.

Neither Rosetta nor Philae are equipped to search for direct evidence of life after a proposal to include this in the mission was allegedly laughed out of court. Maverick astronomer and astrobiologist Prof Chandra Wickramasinghe, who was involved in the mission planning 15 years ago, believes people should be more open to the possibility of alien life.

Wickramasinghe said: “Five hundred years ago it was a struggle to have people accept that the Earth was not the centre of the universe. After that revolution our thinking has remained Earth-centred in relation to life and biology. It’s deeply ingrained in our scientific culture and it will take a lot of evidence to kick it over.”

Prof Wickramasinghe’s views are regarded as several steps outside the scientific mainstream. He has previously suggested that the SARS virus arrived to Earth from space and that airborne spores that caused rainfall in Kerala to turn a reddish hue had an extraterrestrial origin.

He and colleague Dr Max Wallis, from the University of Cardiff, believe 67P and other comets like it could provide homes for living microbes similar to the “extremophiles” that inhabit the most inhospitable regions of the Earth.

Comets may have helped to sow the seeds of life on Earth and possibly other planets such as Mars, they argue.

The scientists have carried out computer simulations that suggest microbes could inhabit watery regions of the comet. Organisms containing anti-freeze salts could be active at temperatures as low as -40C, their research shows.

The comet has a black hydrocarbon crust overlaying ice, smooth icy “seas” and flat-bottomed craters containing lakes of re-frozen water overlain with organic debris.

Wickramasinghe said data coming from the comet seems to point to “micro-organisms being involved in the formation of the icy structures, the preponderance of aromatic hydrocarbons, and the very dark surface”.

“These are not easily explained in terms of prebiotic chemistry. The dark material is being constantly replenished as it is boiled off by heat from the sun. Something must be doing that at a fairly prolific rate.”

The astronomers present their case for life on 67P at the Royal Astronomical Society’s National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno, Wales.

Most intricate crop circle yet warns of alien invasion

We’ve all seen crop circles and heard various theories about them: they are naturally occurring, they are the work of pranksters and, most believably, they are the work of aliens from another planet marking out landing coordinates for the inevitable invasion and colonisation of our world.

But this latest one really takes the biscuit for creative design.

The intricate crop formation appeared seemingly overnight in Torino in Italy in late June – and has baffled locals and experts alike.

If it was the work of moonlighting pranksters it is estimated it would have taken a team of up to 15 people to etch it out in the space of a night.

And very quickly at that.

That’s 15 tight-lipped people, of course, who wouldn’t want to brag about their handiwork after a few glasses of vino.

Which brings us back to the most likely theory – that of an impending alien invasion.

I, for one, welcome our new extraterrestrial overlords – and applaud them on their attention to detail.*

*Please don’t eat me when you arrive.

The Tunguska Event: Still A Mystery After 107 Years

On the morning of June 30, 1908, a large fireball crossed the sky above the taiga of the Stony Tunguska (Podkamennaya Tunguska) in Siberia. A series of explosions followed, which could be heard even in the distant village of Achajewskoje about 745 miles away. Various meteorological stations in Europe recorded both seismic and atmospheric pressure waves. And during the following days, strange phenomena were observed in the sky of Europe, such as silvery, glowing clouds, colorful sunsets and a strange luminescence in the night.

Russian newspapers soon reported on this supposed meteorite impact. International newspapers speculated about a possible volcanic explosion, as memories of the eruption of Krakatoa in 1883 were still strong. However, the inaccessibility of the region and Russia’s unstable political situation prevented further investigations.

Thirteen years after the incident, Russian mineralogist Leonid Alexejewitsch Kulik became interested in the still unexplored event after reading some of the accounts about an explosion and large glowing object. He also had some hopes to recover precious extraterrestrial metals from the impact site.

Kulik travelled to the city of Kansk, where he studied reports about the event in the local archives. Many of those stories refer to large fireballs, flames and a sequence of fourteen “thunders.” In March of 1927, he arrived at the outpost of Wanawara. Then on April 13, Kulik discovered a large area of about 830 square miles covered with rotting logs  – the strange “Forest of Tunguska.”

Despite exploring the entire area, Kulik and his team didn’t locate a single great crater as he’d expected, but he did find some circular pits that were interpreted as being smaller craters produced by impact fragments. However, no meteoritic material was discovered at the site.

In the fall of 1927, a preliminary report by Kulik was published in various national and international newspapers. As a result, the event of 1907 became known as the “Tunguska Event.”

Kulik formulated one of the first hypotheses to explain both the reports and lack of evidence on the ground: he suggested that an extraterrestrial solid exploded in the atmosphere, causing the observed explosion and devastation. That solid’s fragments then became buried in the swampy ground, which was too soft to preserve the typical morphology of an impact crater.

In 1934 Soviet scientists proposed a variation of Kulik’s hypothesis. They proposed that it was a comet, not a meteorite, that struck the area. Since comets are composed mostly of ice, one would have been completely vaporized during the impact, leaving no traces behind.

Over time, many other theories – some quite unusual – have been proposed to explain the apparent lack of craters in the region or the missing extraterrestrial matter.

Based on impressions left by the first atomic bombs, the Engineer Aleksander Kasantsews developed an unusual explanation involving a nuclear explosion of possible extraterrestrial origin between the years 1945 and 1959.

In 1973, American physicists proposed in the journal Nature that a small black hole had collided with earth, causing some sort of matter-antimatter explosion.

The German astrophysicist Wolfgang Kundt and later Jason Phipps Morgan of the Cornell University in Ithaca and Paola Vannucchi from the University of Florence have proposed an ulterior hypothesis in the past few years: “Verneshots.” Named for the author of the novel A Journey to the Center of the Earth, Verneshots are supercritical magma/gas mixtures that violently erupt from underground. According to this proposed model, areas with a thick crust or composed of hard rocks (the region of Tunguska is covered by the thick basalts of the Siberian Trapps) magmatic intrusions and gases tend to build up pressure until the cover is shattered to pieces. Hot gases would escape then into the atmosphere, causing a visible explosion.

However, the most compelling explanation for the Tunguska Event remains the impact of a natural extraterrestrial object. This idea is supported by the reports describing a fireball descending on the tundra, sedimentary features, like the presence of nanodiamonds, magnetic- and silicate spherules in sediments and the mapped distribution and direction of the fallen trees, which point away from the explosion site.

However, there are some inconsistencies in the idea that the Tunguska Event was of extraterrestrial origin. For example, the accounts of a series of thunders are hard to explain with a single impact. Additionally, the recovered sediments are not unambiguous – they’re also explainable also by the common contamination of sediments by extraterrestrial material, because many small meteorites are disintegrated every day in earth´s atmosphere.

In 2007, Luca Gasperini and his research team of the University of Bologna proposed that a small lake in the region, Lake Cheko, may have been the impact crater of a fragment that caused Tunguska Event. Lake Cheko is unusually deep for a region characterized by shallow ponds, which are formed by superficially melting permafrost. There’s also no record of the lake existing before 1908, however it’s also true that the region was poorly mapped and explored at the time. Gasperini’s evidence is controversial, as seen in one published answer to this research.

At this point, it’s likely that only the discovery of extraterrestrial material on the bottom of a lake would be the decisive evidence needed to solve the mystery of Tunguska.

6 Mysterious UFO Crashes that Happened BEFORE Roswell

Some skeptics would have you believe that the Roswell UFO crash set the trend for reporting this type of strange event. But that’s not true.

Unidentified objects had been falling from the skies years before that. Here are 6 of the most intriguing cases:

6. Aurora, Texas – 1897

A good 50 years before the Roswell event started the craze, a large UFO allegedly crashed in the small town of Aurora, Texas. The object was silver in color and shaped like a cigar.

According to an article published in the Dallas News, the UFO had been steadily losing altitude when it struck Judge Proctor’s windmill. The explosion wrecked the windmill tower and scattered debris over several acres.

The article also reported that a well had been also damaged in the crash and its water tainted, leading the locals to bury it.

The article read:

• ”the pilot of the ship is supposed to have been the only on board and, while his remains were badly disfigured, enough of the original has been picked up to show that he was not an inhabitant of this world.”

A small ceremony was held at the local cemetery where the small alien body was buried. The tombstone was stolen in 2012 but from the existing photos one can clearly see it depicted a crudely-carved cigar-shaped object with portholes on its sides.

While on the island, they witnessed an extraordinary event: a giant UFO fell from the sky, crashing into a jagged cliff. It was as big as a battleship and had four huge wings on its sides.

The men mustered the courage to examine the wreck and, amid the debris, found the bodies of several 12 foot-tall men with strange clothing and bronze-colored silky beards. This gruesome discovery was too much to bear for the starving, desperate men and some of them even went mad.

Only a handful of people survived until rescue came in the form of a Russian trawler, among them, the Dutchman.

While this might be nothing more than a sailor’s story, it makes for a very interesting one nonetheless.

4. Stavropol, Russia – late 1800s

In the 1960s, a Soviet investigation uncovered clues about a UFO crash landing that took place towards the end of the 19th century. Several witnesses reported that “a strange apparition flew into a village of the Stavropol province” and that its passengers had survived the crash.

• “Three dark-skinned men came out of it. They were breathing hard, making signs and soon died since they could not breathe air. The village residents quickly pulled apart the thing in which they landed.”

As the investigation progressed, the officials began receiving letters corroborating the story. A woman named Irina Danilova recalled a story told by her grandfather, who had personally witnessed the event.

According to Danilova’s grandfather, the craft was shaped like an arrowhead and was quickly dismantled by the locals, who used the metal to manufacture household goods.

The bodies were “buried without cross or ritual.”

3. Carolinas – 1941

This report comes from noted UFO researcher Leo Stringfield’s book UFO Crash/Retrievals: Search for Truth in a Hall of Mirrors. Stringfield tracked down and spoke with the mother of Guy Simeone, a soldier in the 26th Infantry Division prior to the United States’ involvement into the Second World War.

In October 1941, Simeone was taking part in a military maneuver “in the Carolinas” when an unidentified object crashed in the area. Interests rapidly shifted towards recovering the “crashed round, metallic object” and “little dead bodies from space.”

 
The craft was taken to a nearby Army post. It measured about 15 feet in width and 10 feet in height and housed a control room with four seats. The silver UFO had otherworldly inscriptions both on its exterior shell as well as inside.

The four recovered bodies were described as small and with large, insect-like eyes.

Unfortunately, there is little evidence to support this incident, apart from the accounts of second-hand witnesses. Nobody knows what happened to the craft or the body of its passengers.

2. Dundy County, Nebraska, 1884

The June 8th, 1884 edition of The Nebraska State Journal ran an article about the crash of a mysterious object and subsequent retrieval of very unusual debris.

According to the journal, local rancher John Ellis and other locals witnessed a burning object similar to a meteor falling from the sky.

The men rode their horses to the crash site in order to investigate the incident. When they arrived, they found a large number of incandescent objects strewn across the crash site.

 
The objects were so hot and burned so bright that none of the men dared approach them. The ranchers resolved to come back the following day.

When they returned, the men noticed the objects were, in fact, mechanical parts resembling gears, wheels and propeller blades. All of them appeared to have been made from an extremely light and durable metal. No bodies were found.

Nobody knows what became of the wreckage.

1. England – WWII

Former intelligence officer and Flying Saucer Review editor Gordon Creighton launched an investigation into the crash of a UFO on British soil, at the height of the Second World War.

The craft wreckage was reportedly retrieved and studied by British authorities.

He learned about the incident from a 1955 article published in the Los Angeles Examiner by journalist Dorothy Kilgallen.

Here’s an excerpt:

• “I can report today on a story which is positively spooky, not to mention chilling. British scientists and airmen, after examining the wreckage of one mysterious flying ship, are convinced these strange aerial objects are not optical illusions or Soviet inventions, but are flying saucers which originate on another planet.
  
  “The source of my information is a British official of cabinet rank who prefers to remain unidentified.
  
  ‘We believe, on the basis of our inquiry thus far, that the saucers were staffed by small men—probably under four feet tall. It’s frightening, but there’s no denying the flying saucers come from another planet.’
  
  “This official quoted scientists as saying a flying ship of this type could not have possibly been constructed on Earth. The British Government, I learned, is withholding an official report on the ‘flying saucer’ examination at this time, possibly because it does not wish to frighten the public.”

After the article was published, Creighton attempted to contact Dorothy Kilgallen and ask for further information.

She died shortly after, leading the researcher to believe that “she had been effectively silenced.” But as it turns out, Kilgallen was not the only source of information regarding this incident.

Brazilian UFO researcher Olavo T. Fontes also claimed to found out about this retrieval from sources inside Brazil’s Naval Intelligence but had only sparse details.

Another interesting detail was revealed in 1988 by former CIA pilot John Lear. His sources revealed that the UFO had been “strapped to a Boeing B-17 and transported to the States.”

It seems the British Government managed to keep a tight lid on this enigmatic crash, because nothing else is known about it.

How the Roswell UFO Theory Got Started

This was the first public news of the strange happenings of July 7, 1947

Odds are, if you’re familiar with the city of Roswell, N.M., you’re familiar with what happened there on this day, July 7, in 1947: a rancher named W.W. Brazel told Sheriff George Wilcox that he had found something strange on a sheep ranch northwest of the town. After finding bits of rubber, wood, foil, tape and paper in the field, the Sheriff called the local Army air field, which sent Major Jesse Marcel, an intelligence officer, to check it out. Marcel was convinced that Brazel stumbled upon nothing less than the remains of a flying saucer. He told his group commander, who told the press officer on duty, Walter Haut, who sent out a press release. The next day the Roswell Daily Record bore a headline—”RAAF CAPTURES FLYING SAUCER ON RANCH IN ROSWELL REGION”—that instantly turned the town into the nation’s UFO capital.

But there’s a big hitch in that oft-told tale. As TIME reported in an investigation on the 50th anniversary of the incident, the same day that the Daily Record ran the sensational story, it was determined that the litter was from a destroyed weather balloon. The paper printed a follow-up retraction the next day, and Brazel stated that he was embarrassed to have gotten so worked up over nothing.

That should have been that. But not everyone bought the official explanation, as TIME explained in 1997:

•       Enter Stanton Friedman, a former itinerant nuclear physicist now living in New Brunswick, Canada, who has long been, in his words, “a clear-cut, unambiguous UFOlogist.” In 1978, while waiting in a Baton Rouge, La., television station for an interview, Friedman was told that Jesse Marcel, long retired from the Air Force and living nearby, had once handled the wreckage of a UFO. After quizzing Marcel, who still believed the debris he retrieved was extraterrestrial, Friedman reviewed the old stories about Roswell, painstakingly sought out and interviewed other witnesses, and came to a dramatic conclusion: there had been a cover-up of “cosmic Watergate” proportions. His research and conclusions became the basis of the 1980 book The Roswell Incident, co-written by Charles Berlitz (author of The Bermuda Triangle) and UFO investigator William Moore. Its publication put Roswell back on the map.

The next decades saw the publication of several more Roswell books. Public awareness of the supposed cover-up grew to a point that the Air Force did its own investigation, eventually making public details of a top-secret balloon-tracking project that had been going on during that 1947 period and which they said explained the original wreckage.

Others clung to their belief that it was a flying saucer—including Walter Haut. Haut, who died in 2007 without ever giving up on the idea of the alien landing, was one of the founders of the city’s UFO Museum.

UFO or Light Being Captured Over The Colima Volcano in Mexico – July 2015 (Video)

UFOs near volcanoes are commonly seen on webcams. Also the Colima volcano in Mexico, located approximately 300 miles west of Mexico City is a well known UFO hotspot.
  

Once again the webcam watching the Colima volcano captured a UFO on July 4, 2015 between the 21:10:30 and 21:10:50 hours.

The next time-lapse video shows the rare cigar-shaped object or light being hovering over the volcano.

In this case, where did this technology come from? Was the stone a relic from a bygone age, one of the few objects left behind by an advanced civilization? Many alternative history proponents are convinced this is not only possible, but also likely.

It’s an interesting scenario that brings up more questions. If there has been another technologically advanced civilization on Earth, there might have been more. What would the real history of our planet sound like then? A couple more practical questions would be: why aren’t they here anymore and will the same fate await us?

On the other hand, if the Lanzhou Stone is in fact a meteorite, the plot thickens dramatically. If it’s been traveling through space, its journey probably started a while ago. It could potentially be billions of years old. Was it deliberately sent here? If so, why? Could it have contained life?

Debris?

Alas, we might never find the answers to these questions. Many have come to believe that critical evidence needed to support these theories is highly protected and the conspiracy stretches far and wide. Discoveries are suppressed, scientists are discredited and information is adulterated.

The truth is either out there or much closer to us.

De ruimtelander Philae van het Europese ruimtevaartuig Rosetta, die vorig jaar succesvol landde op de komeet 67P/Tsjoerjoemov-Gerasimenko, bevindt zich mogelijk op een hemellichaam vol buitenaards leven.

Twee astrobiologen hebben tijdens een bijeenkomst van de Royal Astronomical Society in Wales gezegd dat het zwarte oppervlak en de andere eigenschappen van de komeet bijna alleen maar kunnen worden verklaard door de aanwezigheid van levende organismen onder de ijzige bodem.

Organisch materiaal

Rosetta zou vreemde clusters van organisch materiaal hebben opgepikt die verdacht veel lijken op virale deeltjes. Het ruimtetuig is echter niet uitgerust met het benodigde gereedschap voor verder onderzoek naar bewijs van buitenaards leven. Dat komt omdat een dergelijk voorstel jaren geleden door de missieleiding werd weggelachen.

“Ik wilde een goedkoop experiment voor onderzoek naar leven doen, maar dat werd toen als een zeer bizar voorstel beschouwd,” zei astrobioloog Chandra Wickramasinghe, die betrokken was bij de planning van de missie. Hij wil dat bij volgende missies naar de komeet instrumenten worden meegestuurd die zoeken naar leven.

Bewijs

Ook zijn collega Max Wallis van de Universiteit van Cardiff denkt dat de komeet en soortgelijke hemellichamen mogelijk microben herbergen die lijken op de bacteriën die in onherbergzame gebieden op aarde leven.

Wickramasinghe, directeur van het Buckingham Centre for Astrobiology, vindt dat het tijd is voor een compleet nieuwe denkwijze over de mogelijkheid van buitenaards leven. “500 jaar geleden was het nog een strijd om de mens ervan te overtuigen dat de aarde niet het centrum van het heelal is,” zei hij. “Na die revolutie bleef ons denken over leven en biologie gericht op de aarde. Het zit inmiddels zo diepgeworteld in onze wetenschappelijke cultuur dat er heel wat bewijs nodig zal zijn om hier verandering in te brengen.”

VIDEO: Mummie van mysterieuze verloren beschaving gevonden in Siberië

Een team archeologen heeft in het noorden van Rusland een goed bewaarde mummie opgegraven die uit de twaalfde of dertiende eeuw stamt. De mummie behoorde naar verluidt toe aan een verloren beschaving.

De archeologen denken dat de resten, die bij de stad Salechard op de noordpoolcirkel zijn gevonden, van een kind of tiener zijn, hoewel de lijkkist nog geopend moet worden. De overblijfselen zijn gewikkeld in zwachtels van berkenbast die koper bevatten. In combinatie met de ijskoude omstandigheden ontstond een graftombe, zo meldt The Siberian Times.

Alexander Goesev zei: “We hebben na overleg met collega’s besloten de vondst als geheel over te brengen naar de stad om verder onderzoek te doen. De ‘cocon’ van berkenbast is 1,3 meter lang en ongeveer 30 centimeter breed. Het hoofd en de schedel verkeren waarschijnlijk in goede staat. We denken dat het een kind is, misschien een tiener. De vondst bevindt zich momenteel in een speciale vriezer in het Shemanovski Museum in Salechard. We zijn van plan op 15 juli terug te keren naar Salechard en zullen gelijk beginnen met het openmaken van de ‘cocon’.”

De lichamen werden bedekt met stukken koper en delen van koperen ketels. In combinatie met de permafrost kon het lichaam op deze manier zo goed worden bewaard.

In 2014 werden ook al mummies gevonden in Siberië (foto). Er werden in totaal 34 ondiepe graven blootgelegd. De archeologen vermoeden dat de nieuwe ontdekking gelinkt kan worden aan deze lichamen en een overblijfsel is van een mysterieuze middeleeuwse beschaving die banden had met Perzië.

Duizenden jaren kende de mensheid verschillende methoden om te communiceren met het goddelijke, aldus Grosso. De laatste paar honderd jaar is de mensheid echter meer gaan neigen naar een absoluut materialisme. Alles wat niet fysiek kan worden gemeten werd ontkend.

Dr. Grosso is betrokken bij Universiteit van Virginia en heeft een boek geschreven over levitatie. Het boek zou in eerste instantie worden gepubliceerd door Oxford University Press, maar dat ging niet door omdat hij weigerde zijn claims over levitatie aan te passen. Dit jaar wordt het boek, getiteld The Man Who Could Fly, door een andere uitgever uitgebracht.

Sint Jozef van Cupertino (1603-1663) was een Italiaanse monnik en mysticus. In de Acta Sanctorum werden van hem tot 70 ‘vluchten’ in heel Italië geregistreerd, waarbij hij in één geval in een boom vloog en daar op een dunne tak bleef zitten wiegen. Vaak keken hele menigten toe.

Er zijn meer dan 150 ooggetuigenverslagen gepubliceerd over de ‘vluchten’ van Cupertino, die ook wel de vliegende heilige werd genoemd. Hij kon zich voor lange tijd van de grond opheffen. Het verhaal gaat dat hij regelmatig in extase raakte en dan begon te zweven en voorspellingen deed. Ook hoorde hij hemelse muziek. Er werd druk over gesproken.

De inquisitie bevond hem onschuldig aan tovenarij, maar stuurde hem eerst naar Assisi en later naar meer afgelegen kloosters om de volkstoeloop en de jaloezie van medebroeders te ontgaan. Op 24 februari 1753 werd Cupertino zalig verklaard door paus Benedictus XIV en op 16 juli 1767 volgde de heiligverklaring door Clemens XIII.

Cupertino werd in Rome op hetzelfde moment als Galileo Galilei onder een soort huisarrest geplaatst. De één was een mysticus, de ander de grondlegger van de moderne wetenschap.

“Zou het kunnen dat deze sluimerende vermogens staan voor het potentieel van de toekomstige evolutie van de mensheid?” vroeg Grosso zich af. “Je kunt alleen maar hopen dat zoiets bewaarheid wordt.”

Weer vreemde wolk UFO's waargenomen ( Video )

Steeds meer worden ze opgemerkt door mensen over de hele wereld.  

Wolken die op dat moment eigenlijk ergens niet thuis horen, zich op een rare manier door de lucht bewegen en soms lijken te bestaan uit een aantal vreemde lichten/UFO’s.

Via een lezer (dank!) werden we opmerkzaam gemaakt op de Facebookpagina van ene Hector Garcia.

Wat wil namelijk het geval? Hector die lijkt te wonen in Brooklyn in New York, heeft een heel merkwaardige wolk gefilmd.

Een die alsmaar van vorm verandert en waar op een gegeven moment zelfs lichten zichtbaar zijn:

Wanneer je de video bekijkt, valt je mond een beetje open van verbazing. Een wolk die zich als een soort ruimteschip door de lucht beweegt.

Als deze opname echt is, wat bij dit soort video’s altijd weer de vraag is, dan hebben we hier een prachtige opname van een UFO/wolk.

Een andere lezer (dank!) stuurde een opname van een vreemde wolk boven een stadion in Zuid Amerika tijdens een voetbalwedstrijd.

De vreemde wolk werd gefilmd tijdens de finale tussen Argentinië en Chili van de America’s Cup. 

Het is verder niet bekend of er lichten en/of kleine UFO’s te zien waren bij deze bijzondere wolk.

Medieval Pictures: Do Aliens Really Visited Earth in the Middle Ages?

In the beginning of the old civilization, human race adorned the culture and art. Among them is the Medieval Art, which is a significant artistic field that demonstrates the ancient life, at the same time influence and enrich the modern art. In the middle ages, monsters in manuscripts and books were understood to be real. They are terrorized seas and scare missionaries.

Medieval Monsters, a new book that documents dog demons, bizarre photos of headless men, and other frightful creatures that depict religious tomes and traveling tales from middles ages, supply evidence that aliens have visited. Such creatures were feared by sailors and their possible existence sway over the minds of legendary Christopher Columbus, the historical explorers. Academics Damien Kempf and Maria Gilbert, who made Medieval Monsters, explained that during the 5th and the 15th century, people questioned the meaning of creatures outside of humanity.

Drawn in the 13th century, Psalter World Map is the key to understanding the medieval mind’s concept at large. It depicts Christ is watching over the earth surrounded by an ocean. Asia is on the upper part, Europe sits on the lower left, Jerusalem is on the center stage and Africa is in the neighboring area. The Psalter World Map portrays the hostile, remote, and inhabitable places discussed by Herodotus, Piny the Elder, and authors from antiquity, known as the “monstrous zone” as explained by the authors.

Some creatures have no heads, a single eye in their ears or chest which look like arms. These unfathomable creatures may seem bizarre in their appearance as aliens, so they become a god-fearing ancestor. These specimens boasted exotic names, like the Panotii, which means “all ears.” Such books by Pliny, Mandeville, Marco Polo and Martianus were immensely filled with the medieval mind and influence. Medieval Monsters states that the book is full of freakish creatures and describes Pygmies as toothless and harmless.
