Jay Stratton links alleged alien encounters to deaths as Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb requests physical evidence

Former Pentagon UFO investigator Jay Stratton claims in his new memoir that people involved with alleged US recoveries of aliens and their technology suffered mental breakdowns and, in some cases, took their own lives.

Stratton, the first director of the Pentagon's Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force, has also alleged that military contractors possess at least a dozen crashed spacecraft and have recovered non-human remains.

BroBible reports the claims in connection with his memoir, Out of the Shadows. He previously served as Chief of Air and Space Warfare for the Defense Intelligence Agency. Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb has challenged Stratton to produce evidence.

What Stratton Alleges About Recovered Aliens

The memoir passage reproduced by BroBible attributes the reported harm to encounters with non-human intelligence and its technology, claiming they caused some people 'to resign, suffer mental breakdowns, and in some cases take their own lives. The truth was just too difficult for them to process.'

Stratton also alleges that aliens were recovered alive from the 1947 crash at Roswell, New Mexico, but later died after refusing food and human contact.

Other Officials' Claims About Aliens

Other former officials have advanced similar claims. They include Luis 'Lue' Elizondo, identified in the report as director of the Pentagon's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, and David Grusch, an Air Force veteran who previously worked at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and National Reconnaissance Office.

Astrophysicist Eric Davis, who worked with the Pentagon's UFO programme, has asserted that he personally viewed classified images and documents purportedly supporting claims of alien life discovered in crashed craft.

Hal Puthoff, a former CIA-funded researcher and adviser to the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program, has separately alleged the recovery of 'four separate types' of alien species.

Loeb Seeks Evidence for Aliens

Loeb leads Harvard's Galileo Project, which searches for signs of extraterrestrial life, and previously chaired the university's Department of Astronomy. He has himself suggested that the comet 3I/Atlas and the asteroid Oumuamua could be alien spacecraft.

His earlier proposals include the possibility that an advanced civilisation created the universe in a laboratory and that aliens could travel through hidden dimensions.

Loeb chairs the UAP Science Advisory Council, which advises the White House and other US agencies. He also described a separate UAP Governing Board whose membership spans the executive branch, the military, and the intelligence community.

'Obviously, any groundbreaking revelation about alien intelligence would be of great political benefit to the Trump administration. Why can't anyone offer President Trump a guided tour to an alien spacecraft or at least some footage of alien bodies?' he wrote.

Loeb also told Fox 32 News that a legal waiver lets employees share confidential UAP information with designated government investigators, but Stratton provided neither tangible nor digital proof.

'Jay did not respond to my invitation, even after it was repeated by the Council member, Dr Tim Gallaudet,' Loeb wrote. The report includes no reply from Stratton addressing Loeb's invitation or demand for evidence.

Loeb described public disclosure as a goal of the council, explaining that its purpose includes releasing material on alleged non-human technologies so that the evidence becomes available beyond official channels.

Jay Stratton Claims Roswell's Balloon Story Was a Cover-up and UFOs Are Drawn to Nuclear Energy

Jay Stratton Claims Roswell's Balloon Story Was a Cover-up and UFOs Are Drawn to Nuclear Energy

A former Pentagon investigator's extraordinary Roswell claims revive questions about UFOs, nuclear weapons and the evidence still missing

Former US intelligence official Jay Stratton has alleged that non-human bodies were recovered near Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947 and concealed behind a balloon explanation.

His claims resurfaced on Tuesday, 20 October, along with his account of using nuclear energy to attract unidentified objects. Neither allegation has been independently verified.

The allegation appeared in Stratton's memoir, Out of the Shadows: Revealing the Truth About Non-Human Intelligent Life, published on 13 October.

He previously directed the Pentagon's Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force and served at the Defense Intelligence Agency. His experience lends weight to the story, though it cannot replace evidence.

Jay Stratton Challenges the Official Account of Roswell

Debris recovered from a ranch near Roswell in July 1947 became the centre of one of America's most enduring UFO disputes.

The US Army Air Forces initially announced the recovery of a flying disc, before describing the material as balloon equipment.

Stratton offers a different version. He writes that a source described the recovery of a crashed craft and occupants who were not human. According to the account, some died on impact, while others briefly survived. The claim rests on testimony that readers cannot independently test.

He also recounts allegations that intelligence personnel suffered serious psychological distress after encountering the supposed wreckage and bodies. The reports include no independently verified medical records, witness statements, or physical remains to support those assertions.

A documented explanation accounts for the debris. A 1994 US Air Force investigation traced it to Project Mogul, a classified research programme that used high-altitude balloons to gather information relevant to Soviet nuclear activity.

The Air Force revisited accounts of supposed bodies in a 1997 report. It concluded that later memories conflated the Roswell story with test-dummy drops and separate military accidents in later years. That explanation directly contradicts Stratton's account of recovered non-human occupants.

The Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, known as AARO, reviewed the history again in 2024. It found no records demonstrating that the government recovered aliens or extraterrestrial material at Roswell.

Jay Stratton's Nuclear Submarine Plan Raises Another Question

Stratton traces his involvement in UAP investigations to footage he says he viewed in 2005 while working at the Defense Intelligence Agency.

In a radio interview on 18 October, he described a black triangular object near a nuclear missile silo. He believed known aerospace technology could not explain its movements.

But the reporting reviewed did not include classified footage available for independent examination. Its apparent speed, shape and origin therefore remain matters of Stratton's description, rather than independently established findings.

Jay Stratton

The Pentagon found no verifiable evidence of extraterrestrial technology, challenging Jay Stratton's UFO claims

PHOTO jaystrattonofficial/Instagram

He says repeated reports near nuclear facilities prompted a theory that UAPs were drawn to nuclear energy. His memoir describes investigators considering a submarine as a lure in waters associated with previous sightings.

'Our bait could be a nuclear submarine,' Stratton writes in an excerpt reported by Popular Mechanics. He says the intention was to use the reactor's nuclear signature to bring an object close enough to observe or potentially recover.

The distinction matters. A proposed strategy does not establish that an operation was carried out, much less that an object approached. In the October radio interview, Stratton went further and claimed to have used nuclear sources to lure UAPs. No independently accessible operational record or instrument data substantiates that outcome.

Stratton also describes strange lights near his family's home and the personal strain of pursuing these investigations. Those experiences remain personal recollections, not evidence of an extraterrestrial presence.

AARO's 2024 historical review examined allegations of secret programmes alongside the Roswell debris. Its then-acting director, Tim Phillips, said the office found 'no verifiable evidence' that any UAP sighting represented extraterrestrial activity.

The agency acknowledged that some reports remained unresolved. However, its investigators found no verifiable evidence that the US government or private industry had obtained extraterrestrial technology. Stratton has not yet publicly presented independently testable evidence to support his competing Roswell and nuclear-attraction claims.

Undeciphered Voynich manuscript may have been bound out of order, study finds

Experts argue that the mysterious Voynich manuscript was incorrectly bound — a discovery that "moves the ball" in finally deciphering the 15th-century document.

The mysterious and undeciphered Voynich manuscript has caused consternation among code-breakers, linguists and scholars of medieval literature for more than a century. But now experts think they've worked out why it's so hard to crack: It was bound incorrectly in the 15th century, meaning the pages are out of order. The new linguistic analysis of the document has moved researchers closer to figuring out what the text was all about.

The Voynich manuscript is a medieval codex made up of leaves of parchment carbon-dated to the early 15th century. Its 240 pages are covered with about 38,000 words of a unique script called "Voynichese" along with illustrations of people, plants and astrological symbols. Also known as the Beinecke Cipher manuscript, the document was initially owned by a Holy Roman emperor and was purchased by Wilfrid Voynich in 1912. Since 1969, the manuscript has been in the collection of Yale University's rare book library. Experts have unsuccessfully tried to decipher the manuscript for more than a century.

"We don't know if it's a code," Lisa Fagin Davis, study co-author and executive director of the Medieval Academy of America, told Live Science. "But there are some odd characteristics of the Voynich manuscript in terms of its physical structure."

When doing research on the number of scribes who copied the document, Davis realized from the handwriting that the manuscript's pages alternate in ways that don't make sense. In addition, she said, "there are several examples where the image goes off the page in the middle and comes out on the other side, even though there are a bunch of pages in between."

In a study published Monday (Oct. 19) in the journal Digital Medievalist, Davis and co-author Colin Layfield, an information systems researcher at the University of Malta, suggested that the inconsistent structure of the enigmatic manuscript is the result of someone mis-binding a manuscript they were unable to read.

Medieval manuscripts were made up of rectangular sheets of parchment (animal skin), typically folded in half to produce what experts call a bifolium. Around five bifolia would typically be nested together, creating what experts call a quire. Then, a stack of quires would be bound together along the spine to create a book. However, Davis and Layfield suggested that the Voynich manuscript was intended to be a stack of singulions — a series of loose bifolia never meant to be bound together as a quire or a book.

This is not the first time a researcher has suggested the Voynich manuscript has pages out of order. But Davis and Layfield analyzed the graphic properties of the untranslated document to see if their hypothesis made sense.

"We're viewing it as a text and assuming it has a message," Layfield told Live Science, which means it should be possible to statistically compare blocks of text to see if they're similar or disconnected. Layfield used a technique called latent semantic analysis (LSA), which is a natural language processing technique invented in the late 1980s to find hidden patterns in texts.

LSA is particularly useful for small sets of data, Layfield explained. "Modern AI techniques need ridiculous amounts of data to train on, which we just don't have. We've got just 35,000 or so words. That's it." The researchers' LSA analysis of the Voynich manuscript revealed that some pages had low similarity, suggesting they may not have gone together, while others had high similarity, bolstering the idea that they were supposed to be read together.

By looking at the Voynich manuscript as a collection of singulions, Davis and Layfield solved some of the nagging issues with the document.

What to read next

"When you start to think about it in the context of the other strange features of the manuscript, all of those problems are resolved," Davis said. "It solves the problem of each scribe writing one sheet. It solves the problem of the images crossing the gutter."

This means that any previous work on the Voynich manuscript that assumes it was ordered correctly now needs to be reconsidered, she said, but it also means there is new progress on the book.

"This work helps us think about whether there's actual meaning underneath it all," Davis said. "It doesn't get us there," she said about a definitive translation, "but it moves the ball because you can't make sense out of a book where all the pages are mixed up."

Davis is optimistic that someone will crack the Voynich mystery, in part because a similar modern puzzle known as Cain's Jawbone has been successfully deciphered by a handful of people. This devilishly difficult linguistic puzzle from the 1930s consists of 100 pages of a murder mystery arranged in the wrong order. Due to the unique nature of the text and its vague, stylized language, even AI has failed to solve it.

"We have some ideas for other work we want to do," Davis said. For example, there's a large water stain in the upper margin of some of the pages of the Voynich manuscript. "The stain should be symmetrical from one page to the next but it's not. That also supports the idea that the manuscript is bound out of order."

Davis and Layfield are thinking about ways to compare the stain shapes across the pages, as that may help them reorder the incorrectly organized pages.

Eerie 'UFO cloud' over Washington DC sparks claim of cloaked alien craft hiding in the sky

Eerie 'UFO cloud' over Washington DC sparks claim of cloaked alien craft hiding in the sky

An eerie sighting over Washington DC has sparked wild claims that aliens are hiding in America's skies.

A recent image captured a giant, isolated cloud that looked like a UFO hovering above America's capital.

The cloud appeared to have a smooth, saucer-like shape as it hung motionless in the sky.

One witness shared on X Friday: 'Seen this cloud about an hour back. No movement, no shape change. After being stationary for about 20 mins, it just vanished.'

UFO researcher Scott C Waring claimed that the formations seen throughout the city were 'cloaked alien craft attempting to get closer to the human population by appearing as a simple cloud.'

'Where else would aliens want to listen telepathically to the minds of humans than the area where most US gov intelligence workers live,' added Waring.

'Washington DC is an intelligence playground for them.'

While the formation has sparked claims of otherworldly visitors, it is a natural phenomena known as a lenticular cloud.

Lenticular clouds are smooth, lens-shaped formations that develop in waves of moist air, often near mountains.

These form when moist, stable air flows over hills or mountains, creating waves in the atmosphere.

As air rises toward each wave’s crest, it cools and water vapor condenses into smooth, lens-shaped clouds. These can appear stationary even as air flows through them.

Other images taken on Friday also showed what looked like a massive UFO soaring above the city.

While featuring the same shape as the lenticular, those were determined to be pileus clouds.

Pileus clouds form cap-like layers above rapidly growing clouds as rising air pushes moisture upward, causing it to cool and condense. Both can resemble flying saucers.

They develop when a rapidly growing cumulus or thunderstorm cloud pushes a moist layer of air above it upward.

That air cools and condenses into a thin, smooth cap, which the growing cloud beneath may eventually push through

Despite that meteorological explanation, Waring claimed the clouds seen over Washington DC were camouflaged alien craft.

'Such things often go unnoticed by most people, however the public is widely changing its opinion about these disk-shaped objects and leaning further towards the idea that they are cloaked alien craft,' he wrote on UFO Sightings Daily.

He also claimed the supposed ships used artificial intelligence to detect when someone was watching and conceal themselves.

'Have you ever looked up at a cloud and thought, "wow, that's strange," then it suddenly disappears in a few seconds right before your eyes?' he continued.

'It's the standard built-in reaction of the ship's AI, causing it to scan if it's been seen and instantly cloak if it has.

'In this way...you have telepathically controlled the ship itself, forcing it to hide even more. Yes, you heard me right, you have controlled an alien ship!'

Waring has shared images of other clouds he believed were clocked UFOs.

In August, he reported on a sighting above a Canadian mountain town.

The image was reportedly captured over Canmore, Alberta on August 2 and shows a glowing, saucer-shaped formation suspended above the landscape.

It was shared on Facebook by Chary Woods, who posted the photo in a group dedicated to clouds.

Many people in the comments were quick to congratulate Woods on capturing an epic cloud hanging in the sky, but some noted that it looked more like a UFO.

At its center is a dark oval that UFO researcher Scott C Waring claims is a classic disk-shaped alien craft concealed within the cloud.

Waring said he increased the contrast on the photograph, allegedly making the object at the center of the formation easier to see.

He claimed the UFO had deliberately created the cloud to hide itself while flying closer to the ground.

The UFO researcher further alleged that alien craft use clouds as cover while secretly scanning the thoughts of people below.

The extraordinary image has divided viewers online, with some declaring it evidence of extraterrestrial visitors while others questioned whether it was created using artificial intelligence.

However, no evidence has emerged proving that the shape is a physical craft or that aliens were involved.

‘This is a UFO cloaked within a cloud that it created,’ Waring wrote on his UFO Sightings Daily website.

‘When you add contrast to the photo, the alien classic disk craft becomes visible at its center.’

Waring claimed extraterrestrials had successfully used the supposed camouflage technique for millions of years.

‘UFOs use clouds to fly closer to the ground in order to scan the thoughts of humans below,’ he added.

‘I think UFO researchers worldwide will agree with me on this.’

The photograph shows a glowing formation stretching horizontally across the sky above mountains, trees, homes and a road.

Is this why the world's most mysterious text is yet to be cracked? 600-year-old Voynich manuscript may have been bound out of order, experts claim

Is this why the world's most mysterious text is yet to be cracked? 600-year-old Voynich manuscript may have been bound out of order, experts claim

The Voynich Manuscript has baffled the world's greatest codebreakers, translators and historians for over 600 years, but its secrets may soon be revealed.

Created in the early 15th century, this 240-page text contains 38,000 words in a mysterious script known as 'Voynichese' alongside dozens of surreal illustrations.

Now, scientists claim that the real reason no one has ever managed to decipher the elusive text is that its pages have been bound out of order.

If researchers discover the right way of putting it back together, it could finally unlock the solution to this centuries-old puzzle.

Using modern statistical analysis techniques, researchers compared chunks of text on different pages to see if they were similar or disconnected.

They discovered that pages that appear to follow one after the other actually have very low levels of similarity.

Meanwhile, seemingly disconnected chunks of text share a striking statistical similarity, suggesting they were originally meant to be read together.

Co-author Dr Lisa Davis, of Harvard University, told Live Science: 'It doesn't get us there [to a full translation], but it moves the ball because you can't make sense out of a book where all the pages are mixed up.'

Experts say the reason the Voynich Manuscript (pictured) has not been translated is that its pages have been put in the wrong order

Experts say the reason the Voynich Manuscript (pictured) has not been translated is that its pages have been put in the wrong order

The Voynich Manuscript is widely regarded as one of the world's most mysterious medieval manuscripts, due to its completely unique language and enigmatic illustrations.

The text is made from leaves of parchment carbon-dated to the early 15th century, while the earliest known records show that it was purchased by Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II over 100 years later.

The book was later purchased by the Polish antiquarian bookseller Wilfrid Voynich, for whom it is named, and then entered the collection of Yale University's rare book library in 1969.

Many academics have tried to figure out whether there is a hidden message beneath the bizarre imagery and strange text, and their conclusions have proven extremely controversial.

Academics have claimed the text contains censored information on sex, contraception and gynaecology, herbal remedies, secrets of pagan religions, and even magical spells.

However, Dr Davis and her co-author Dr Colin Layfield, from the University of Malta, now believe that everyone has been getting it wrong.

When doing research into the number of scribes that originally copied out the text, Dr Davis noticed that the writers' handwriting alternated from page to page in a way that didn't make sense.

Dr Davis says: 'We don't know if it's a code, but there are some odd characteristics of the Voynich manuscript in terms of its physical structure.

Researchers found examples of illustrations that run between two pages that don't actually face each other in the manuscript (pictured)

'There are several examples where the image goes off the page in the middle and comes out on the other side, even though there are a bunch of pages in between.'

Typically, medieval books were made by folding pieces of parchment, usually made of animal skin, in half to make something called a 'bifolium'.

Five of these 'bifolia' were then stacked together into a group known as a quire, and multiple quires were then stitched together along the spine to make a book.

But the researchers don't believe that the Voynich Manuscript was ever meant to be put together this way.

Instead, the researchers think that the manuscript was meant to be a stack of individual folded bifolia, known as singulons, that were meant to be read one at a time like a stack of small pamphlets.

The manuscript's current form likely comes from a later scribe or owner incorrectly binding a book they had no idea how to read.

Dr Davis says: 'When you start to think about it in the context of the other strange features of the manuscript, all of those problems are resolved.

'It solves the problem of each scribe writing one sheet. It solves the problem of the images crossing the gutter.'

Experts now say that they might be able to put the manuscript (pictured) back in the right order, potentially revealing any secrets that it may be hiding

Experts now say that they might be able to put the manuscript (pictured) back in the right order, potentially revealing any secrets that it may be hiding

In their paper, published in the journal Digital Medievalist, the researchers say they hope 'linguists and cryptologists will revisit past work in the light of this hypothesis, ushering in a new era of Voynich Studies'.

However, there is still a lot more work to be done before scientists are able to put the Voynich Manuscript back in the right order.

To start with, Dr Davis wants to focus on some of the large water stains that appear in the middle of the manuscript.

These stains should be symmetrical from one page to the next, but don't seem to match up at all.

If experts can find a way of comparing these stain shapes, it might finally help put some of the pages back together as they were originally meant to be read.

THE MYSTERIOUS HISTORY OF THE VOYNICH MANUSCRIPT

The first confirmed owner of the Voynich manuscript was George Baresch, an alchemist from Prague who had mentioned in a letter that he had found it in his library 'taking up his space'.

He learned that Jesuit scholar Athanasius Kircher, in Rome, had published a Coptic dictionary and claimed to have deciphered the Egyptian hieroglyphs.

Baresch sent a sample copy of the script to Kircher, asking for clues to reveal what the mysterious manuscript meant.

It was purchased in 1912 by a Polish-American antiquarian book dealer, named Wilfred Voynich (pictured) (1865–1930), from whom it gets its name

It was purchased in 1912 by a Polish-American antiquarian book dealer, named Wilfred Voynich (pictured) (1865–1930), from whom it gets its name

His 1639 letter to Kircher is the earliest confirmed mention of the manuscript that has been found to date.

Kircher asked for the book, but Baresch would not yield it as he prized owning it over knowing its true meaning.

Upon Baresch's death, the manuscript passed to his friend Jan Marek Marci, who worked at Charles University in Prague.

A few years later, Kircher finally got his hands on the book when Marci sent it to him as he was a longtime friend and correspondent.

When Johannes Marcus sent it to Kircher, they found a letter written on August 19, 1665 or 1666 inside the cover.

It claims that the book once belonged to Emperor Rudolph II (1552-1612), who paid 600 gold ducats (about 4.5 pounds of gold) for it.

The letter was written in Latin and has been translated into English.

The litany list of previous owners trying to unpick its secrets continues even further, as the manuscript embedded itself further into European folklore.

The manuscript is also thought to have once been in the possession of 'Jacobj aTepen', or Jakub Horcicky of Tepenec, a medical doctor who lived from 1575-1622 and was known far and wide for his herbal medicinal use.

No records of the book for the next 200 years have been found, but in all likelihood, it was stored with the rest of Kircher's correspondence in the library of the Collegio Romeo.

It likely remained there until the troops of Victor Emmanuel II of Italy captured the city in 1870 and annexed the Papal States.

It was purchased in 1912 by a Polish-American antiquarian book dealer, named Wilfred Voynich (1865–1930), from where it gets its name.

His acquisition of the manuscript is different to its previous owners, from whom it was passed from hand to hand.

According to folklore, he happened upon a trunk that contained the rare manuscript now known as the Voynich manuscript while on an acquisitions trip.

He had it in his possession until he died, and put it on display to the public for the first time ever in 1915.

It further etched itself into folklore and the mystery surrounding it deepened from this point onward as its uncrackable code attracted the greatest minds for decades - all trying to uncover its meaning.

Wilfred subsequently relocated from Europe to New York and, following his death, the manuscript's custodian became his wife Ethel Voynich (1864–1960).

Following her death, the manuscript found its way into the hands of another dealer named Hans P. Kraus (1907–88), who eventually donated it to the Yale library in 1969.

Alan Turing, the brilliant mind who spearheaded the campaign to crack the Enigma code at Bletchley Park during the Second World War, attempted to understand it, but found it impenetrable.

Theodore C Peterson, a priest, embarked on the project of making a hand copy of the Voynich manuscript.

He completed it in 1944 and each page of the replica points out unusual features, which may be of interest in trying to decipher it, such as odd character sequences and frequently used words.

He worked on the Voynich until his death and it helped a Danish botanist and zoologist, Theodore Holm of the Catholic University, tentatively identify 16 plant species in the Voynich.

William  Friedman (1891-1969) is remembered as one of the world's foremost cryptologists and became involved with the Voynich in the early 1920s when he corresponded with its namesake.

During his work, he developed the theory that the Voynich manuscript represented a text in a synthetic language (using or describing inflexion).

John Tiltman was a British intelligence specialist, working in association with William Friedman.

Friedman asked Tiltman for his opinion on the Voynich MS text, and sent him copies of the final quire.

He concluded that the text is far too complicated to be the result of a simple cipher and to be the result of applying a standard cypher to some plain text.

He spent some time discussing the option of a synthetic or 'universal' language as proposed by Friedman.

The FBI also tried during the Cold War, apparently thinking it may have been Communist propaganda.

The US National Security Agency collaborated with German code-breaker Erich Hüttenhain based on the earlier work of British code-breaker John Tiltman because they had a notion that it might contain communist propaganda.

Ultimately, a consensus emerged: that the manuscript was either impossible to solve or else written in gibberish, as an elaborate practical joke.

Dr Gerard Cheshire, a researcher at the University of Bristol, claimed that it was written in a dead language - proto-Romance - and then by studying symbols and their descriptions he deciphered the meaning of the letters and words.

However, Dr Cheshire's supposed translation was widely criticised by experts in the field, with Voynich Manuscript expert Dr Lisa Davis, of Harvard University, branding it 'gibberish'.

The University of Bristol subsequently published a statement distancing itself from Dr Cheshire's study, saying that it was 'entirely the author's own work and is not affiliated with the University of Bristol, the Faculty of Arts or the Centre for Medieval Studies.'

Mysterious 'humanoid predator' lurking near US border could be from another dimension, UFO investigator claims

Mysterious 'humanoid predator' lurking near US border could be from another dimension, UFO investigator claims

A mysterious creature has been caught on camera near the US-Mexico border, and researchers claim it is unlike any other predator from this planet.

UFO investigator Jaime Maussan has alleged that some type of carnivorous being has been carrying away and killing chickens, roosters and rabbits from the Valley of Juárez, a rural area of farm communities along the Rio Grande.

A team that set up cameras in the area claims to have captured proof of the unknown being's existence, revealing photographs of a large, white animal with a long tail and large limbs.

Researchers working with Maussan claimed that the mysterious creature did not appear to be a rodent, raccoon, rat, rabbit or any other common animal known to live in the border state of Chihuahua, Mexico.

Maussan, who allegedly gathered witness reports of these attacks, described the being as agile and intelligent, walking on two legs, somewhat human-like in appearance and measuring several feet long.

He added that the creature photographed by camera traps this month may not be an extraterrestrial from another world, but some form of intelligence crossing over from another dimension which shares the same space in the universe as Earth.

'Why did it appear there? It’s a mystery. Are they interdimensional beings? Are they beings who came with other beings? Did they come in ships?' Maussan said to news outlets in Mexico.

Despite the new images revealed on October 17, authorities with Juárez Civil Protection said they have not received any reports of a deadly creature in the area or any animals being taken.

During a press conference on Saturday, a team of four research assistants working with Maussan said they obtained an estimated size of the creature after spotting it climbing over a large brick wall.

Compared to the large bricks in the wall, the mysterious being was nearly six feet in length, from its head to the tip of its tail, which they claimed was approximately three feet long.

While walking on the ground and climbing the wall, surveillance cameras never caught the entity walking upright on its back legs, which Maussan suggested it was capable of doing.

Animal specialists were allegedly brought in to determine this creature was not a common mammal found on Earth, although they reportedly said it might be some sort of animal that was 'mutating.'

'It’s a predator. I’m not saying it’s extraterrestrial, but it is something scary,' Maussan told NetNoticias.Mx.

'Its intelligence and agility are truly frightening. I don’t believe it attacks people, but it is affecting the interests of those who live in the so-called Juárez Valley.'

Maussan claimed he began investigating the case after an unnamed boy saw it grab a chicken by the head and run up a nearby tree.

He compared it to the 'El Ser de Metepec' case, which the controversial journalist investigated in 2007, calling this predator an adult version of the hairless alien-like creature discovered by a farmer near Mexico City.

Some residents have also reportedly left their homes out of fear of the non-human entity in the valley, according to Maussan, but these claims have not been confirmed by authorities.

Police on the US side of the border in Texas told the El Paso Times that there have not been any reports of strange encounters or farm animal deaths since Maussan first made the claims on October 5.

Maussan has a long record of making wild claims connected to UFOs and extraterrestrial life, including some high-profile incidents which turned out to be hoaxes.

In 2023, Maussan presented two 'non-human' mummies reportedly discovered in Peru to the Mexican Congress, which he claimed was proof of alien life.

However, forensic experts concluded the so-called alien mummies were actually manufactured dolls assembled from animal and human bones using glue and paper.

Even Maussan's investigation into El Ser de Metepec, which he claimed was an alien after it was allegedly killed in a farmer's rat trap, was later discovered to be a modified squirrel monkey created by a local taxidermist.

According to the US government, there has never been any physical evidence recovered that proves the existence of UFOs or alien life.

However, US lawmakers, former military personnel and some religious leaders have expressed their belief in the possibility that sightings of strange creatures could be visitations by beings from other planes of reality.

These beings have been compared to ghosts, demonic spirits and biblical entities such as angels – leading some to believe these visitations were written about in the Bible.

Unexplained aerial encounter left U.S. intelligence officer ‘virtually speechless’

Unexplained aerial encounter left U.S. intelligence officer ‘virtually speechless’

The account comes in the second batch of declassified files released by the Trump administration. The government doesn’t draw any conclusions about the origins of UFOs.
The Pentagon Opened Its UFO Files. Here's What's Actually Inside?

WASHINGTON — Late last year, a senior U.S. intelligence officer on a helicopter mission to investigate “thuds” near a mountain range encountered a mysterious orange orb — an object that split in two and changed direction.

“The ground team suddenly radioed that the object had risen from the ground, approached within ten feet of the helicopter, dropped below us and sped away,” the officer detailed in a memo from the Office of the Directorate of National Intelligence after the strange encounter.

The document was included in a second batch of declassified documents released Friday on unidentified anomalous phenomena — previously and more infamously known unidentified flying objects, or UFOs — released this year by the Trump administration. The U.S. government has been holding onto the files for decades.

Questions about whether humans are alone in the universe and whether alien life has ever visited Earth have captivated Americans since at least the late 1800s, buoyed by science fiction and urban myths of strange sightings and even purported alien abductions.

Those ideas, once given little widespread credibility, have in more recent years taken on more serious scrutiny as video footage — some of it legitimately difficult to explain — has emerged from trusted sources including the U.S. military.

Yet once again, the government on Friday didn’t draw any conclusions about the origins of the UFOs or offer any evidence of government communication with extra terrestrials. The documents do include a disclaimer that readers should not interpret anything “as reflecting an analytical judgment, investigative conclusion, or factual determination regarding the described event’s validity, nature, or significance.”

Syrian UAP instant acceleration

This video, whose uploader-defined title is “Syrian UAP instant acceleration,” is likely derived from an infrared sensor aboard a U.S. military platform in 2021.

Dept. of Defense

The release comes during a week in which President Donald Trump has said he would delay another strike on Iran and the continued conflict has driven gas prices to nearly four-year highs ahead of the holiday weekend.

The U.S. this week also announced the indictment of the brother of Fidel Castro, 94-year-old Raul Castro, in a 1996 downing of two planes that were on a humanitarian mission to Cuba. Additionally, Trump faced rare criticism from Republicans over the announcement of a $1.8 billion fund for those who claim they were the victims of government overreach, including possibly the defendants in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot.

The latest batch of UFO-related documents comes mostly from the Defense Department, and is largely made up of footage from military aircraft as well as audio and notes. There are also seven files from NASA and one from the CIA. The government said the files are redacted to protect witnesses, locations and sensitive information. They date from the 1940s through six months ago.

In the helicopter account by the intelligence officer, fighter jets were called in and, according to the officer’s notes, the orbs were able to match “the jets speed and flight path” and appeared to “chase” the fighter jets.

“We were virtually speechless after these observations,” according to the officer.

There are no conclusions in the memo about what the orbs were or any follow-up described. The senior official who witnessed it wrote at the end of the memo that after the incident he filed a debrief that night before driving home.

Other files detail similarly strange encounters. In 1970, in a handwritten letter, a Los Alamos scientist describes regularly seeing green lights between the hours of 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. between 1948 and 1951 in the mountains, one time moving in some kind of formation.

Chart showing observations of these “green fireballs,” as well as meteors, meteorites, and disks.

Defense Department

In 1972, a CIA officer in the United Soviet Socialist Republics stepped outside after watching a sports competition between Canada and the USSR and saw a green circle that widened and concentric circles appeared.

A series of videos released Friday include sightings of spherical, oblong and cigar-shaped objects that pass through frames over land, lake and sea. The grainy footage tracks the objects as they zip through skies around the world. In a November 2020 video, a circular-shaped object glides in and out of clouds over the central part of the U.S. Roughly five months later, another video shows circular shaped object barrels across the skies above the U.S.

Objects were also recorded in Kabul, Syria, Kazakhstan and Europe. In one clip near Kazakhstan’s Karaganda International Airport, the night sky is broken with a burst of oval-shaped white light. One object captured in Europe appears to stop and start, like it’s being operated by an unseen video game controller.

Unidentified objects are also seen over water, floating near a surfaced submarine. Another object begins to seemingly pulse with sunburst-looking rays, and one fast-moving object was downed over Lake Huron in 2023. It’s not clear from the footage whether the object was recovered.

Audio files capture NASA pilots from the 1960s and 1970s, including the Apollo 12 crew from 1969, describing odd things they saw aboard spacecraft.

In 1962, as NASA pilot Scott Carpenter manned a spacecraft through three revolutions of the Earth during Project Mercury, he describes as the audio crackles what he says are particles that move in and out of his view.

“Their motion is random. They look exactly like snowflakes to me,” he says.

“Roger, have you tried to return?” ground control asks.

“Negative,” Carpenter responds calmly as he says he has to adjust and sees particles again.

“They definitely look like snowflakes,” he says.

Journalist George Knapp Exposes How $22M US Defence AAWSAP Study Was Disguised To Hide UFOs

Journalist George Knapp Exposes How $22M US Defence AAWSAP Study Was Disguised To Hide UFOs

Knapp attributes AAWSAP's ordinary title to an effort to conceal UFO research, while Lacatski details study records

Journalist Says $22M Defense Study Covered Up UFO Focus

George Knapp claims AAWSAP’s ordinary title concealed its UFO focus, as James Lacatski describes reports and a database from the US defence programme

PHOTO NASA / National Archives

Journalist George Knapp claims the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Programme's ordinary name deliberately concealed the UFO work of the $22 million US defence study, describing its purpose during an interview with Mystery Wire.

The Defense Intelligence Agency programme investigated reports of unidentified flying objects and unusual aerospace threats. Senator Harry Reid had pushed for secret government funding, Knapp explained, although the official name gave no explicit indication that UFOs were part of the work.

Speaking in a Mystery Wire interview carried by 8 News Now in Las Vegas, Knapp explained why the official paperwork did not identify the programme's true focus, saying, 'That was on purpose. They didn't want to draw attention to what it was really doing.'

The Ordinary Name Behind AAWSAP

Knapp explained that the title (AAWSAP) was deliberately designed to sound like a routine intelligence study of future technology, rather than an investigation into unidentified flying objects.

Such a description suggested research into overseas developments, including weapons other countries might be developing and whether those capabilities could pose a future threat.

He explained that the programme examined those areas, but that the research did not exclude investigations into UFOs.

Knapp said AAWSAP's remit included research into unidentified objects from the outset, despite its name's broader wording. 'It was UFO stuff from the beginning.'

Why AAWSAP's UFO Remit Was Disputed

Some people have argued that AAWSAP was not a UFO programme because neither its official documents nor its contract specifically mentioned unidentified flying objects, Knapp explained. He attributed that omission to a deliberate effort to avoid attention.

His explanation distinguished between the paperwork's language and the work the programme undertook. He argued that the absence of an explicit reference to UFOs did not mean they were absent from the research.

Knapp also cited how people associated with the project described it. Reid called it a UFO programme, he noted, as did Robert Bigelow, whose interest in unidentified flying objects extended back decades.

Those descriptions did not settle the disagreement. Knapp explained that some people still rejected a connection between AAWSAP and UFO research despite Reid and Bigelow's characterisation.

Knapp's own work on the subject includes serving as a producer on UFOs: The Best Evidence and an associate producer on The Phenomenon.

AAWSAP's Reports and Worldwide Database

In a 2021 interview Mystery Wire revisited, Dr James Lacatski offered a more categorical description of AAWSAP, presenting it as wholly focused on UFOs.

He attributed the lack of detail in its contract documents to the format they used, which, he explained, did not disclose the project's full scope.

Lacatski pointed instead to the proposal from Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies. In his account, that document explicitly outlined plans to establish a worldwide database of advanced aerospace vehicles, a goal he presented as evidence of the programme's UFO remit.

The proposed collection would cover advanced aerospace vehicles worldwide. Lacatski distinguished that stated goal from the less revealing language in the contract documents.

Lacatski stated that AAWSAP produced more than a hundred UFO reports, including technical studies. He added that the US military still used its large UFO database at the time of his account.

What If UFOs Are Not Exploring Earth—but Mapping Targets?

Reddit post speculates that UFOs may be mapping targets on Earth

What If UFOs Are Not Exploring Earth—but Mapping Targets?

A terrifying alien hypothesis that raises an unsettling question: what if unidentified objects are observing our world for reasons we have not yet understood?

The most frightening possibility about an unidentified object in the sky may not be where it came from. It may be what it is doing here.

Imagine a silent object hovering above the ocean at night. It remains motionless for several minutes before disappearing beyond the horizon. Days later, another unexplained object is reported near a military installation. Elsewhere, witnesses describe unusual lights above a major city.

Each incident is investigated separately. Some objects are identified as aircraft, balloons, satellites or drones. Others remain unexplained because investigators lack enough reliable data.

Now consider a disturbing hypothetical: what if some of these observations were not random encounters? What if an advanced nonhuman intelligence were systematically observing Earth, studying its infrastructure, monitoring its oceans and learning how human civilization operates?

There is no verified evidence that UFOs are alien surveillance craft or that extraterrestrial beings are preparing to invade Earth. But the scenario raises fascinating questions about intelligence, surveillance and humanity’s vulnerability to a civilization technologically superior to our own.

And the most unsettling part is that we would have difficulty recognizing such a mission if we did not know what to look for.

What if UFO sightings are not random?

Unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP, are observations that cannot immediately be identified as conventional aircraft or known natural phenomena. The term does not imply an extraterrestrial origin.

Reports of unusual objects have emerged from civilian witnesses, military personnel and pilots. Their descriptions vary considerably, ranging from lights and distant objects to observations involving unusual apparent movement.

The challenge is determining what actually happened.

A light observed at night may be difficult to distinguish from a distant aircraft. An object recorded by an infrared sensor may appear to move in an unexpected way because of the camera’s movement, viewing angle or other measurement limitations.

NASA’s independent UAP study emphasized that limited observations and inadequate sensor data make it difficult to draw firm scientific conclusions about many incidents.

The U.S. government’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, known as AARO, has also reported that many investigated cases can be attributed to ordinary objects or phenomena. Its historical review found no verifiable evidence that investigated UAP sightings represented extraterrestrial technology.

Nevertheless, the existence of unresolved reports leaves a legitimate scientific question: what additional data would investigators need to identify every unusual observation?

A more disturbing question belongs to the realm of speculation: if an advanced intelligence were observing Earth, would its activities necessarily look extraordinary to us?

The hypothetical reconnaissance mission

In military terminology, reconnaissance involves gathering information about an area, its infrastructure, its capabilities and its activities.

Human organizations use satellites, aircraft, radar systems and remotely operated vehicles to observe locations without necessarily engaging with them directly.

An extraterrestrial civilization with technology far beyond ours might have entirely different methods of collecting information. That possibility is speculative, but it provides a framework for exploring a chilling thought experiment.

Suppose an advanced civilization had identified Earth as a planet worth studying.

It might initially investigate the atmosphere, oceans and surface environment. It could then examine signs of technological activity, including communications, energy production and transportation.

If its objective were to understand humanity, observing a single unusual location would offer limited information. Studying patterns across an entire planet would be far more useful.

Under this hypothetical scenario, apparently unrelated observations might be interpreted as parts of a much larger intelligence-gathering operation.

But that interpretation would require evidence linking the incidents together. Similar-looking reports, unexplained lights or proximity to infrastructure would not, by themselves, demonstrate a coordinated mission.

The distinction matters: a frightening hypothesis is not a confirmed explanation.

“The possibility becomes even more unsettling when we consider reports of unidentified objects near or beneath the ocean, a mystery explored in our investigation of the most terrifying UFOs hiding in our oceans.”

Why would an alien intelligence study military installations?

Military installations contain information about a civilization’s defensive capabilities, technological development and strategic priorities.

If an extraterrestrial civilization were assessing Earth before making contact, military activity could theoretically be one area of interest.

However, this is not the only possible explanation for unusual observations near military facilities. Aircraft, drones, balloons, sensor artifacts and other conventional sources can create confusion, while legitimate security concerns can make identification more difficult.

There is also no publicly verified evidence establishing that reported UAP incidents near military facilities are part of an extraterrestrial surveillance campaign.

Still, the thought experiment raises an uncomfortable question.

If an intelligence were significantly more advanced than humanity, would it need to approach a military installation closely to study it? Could it gather information remotely? Would its technology even be detectable by the instruments we currently use?

We cannot answer these questions with confidence because we have no confirmed example of an extraterrestrial reconnaissance system to study.

The frightening possibility is therefore not that an invasion has been demonstrated. It is that we cannot confidently predict the methods or capabilities of an intelligence whose existence and intentions remain unknown.

Could UFOs be mapping Earth’s infrastructure?

Modern civilization depends on interconnected systems: electrical grids, communication networks, transportation routes, data centers, ports and industrial facilities.

In principle, an intelligence seeking to understand human society would have reasons to study how these systems function.

Yet there is an important distinction between observing infrastructure and preparing to attack it. Scientists have no verified evidence connecting UFO reports to the systematic mapping of Earth’s critical infrastructure by extraterrestrial beings.

The hypothesis becomes particularly unsettling when extended to a fictional scenario in which observations are repeated over long periods.

Imagine that an unknown craft appears above an ocean, another is reported near a remote communications facility, and a third is observed over a densely populated region. Investigators might initially treat these incidents as unrelated.

In a science-fiction narrative, the eventual discovery of a common pattern could transform the meaning of every earlier sighting.

In real investigations, however, researchers would need reliable timestamps, precise locations, independent sensor records and evidence of coordinated behavior before concluding that separate observations were connected.

Without that information, a pattern can be created by coincidence, reporting bias or the tendency to connect ambiguous events.

The question is worth exploring, but the evidence must determine the answer.

The Dark Forest hypothesis makes the scenario even more disturbing

One proposed explanation for the Fermi paradox is the Dark Forest hypothesis, popularized by science-fiction author Liu Cixin.

The Fermi paradox asks why humanity has not found convincing evidence of extraterrestrial civilizations despite the enormous number of stars and planets in the universe.

The Dark Forest hypothesis offers a bleak possible answer: civilizations might remain silent because revealing their locations could expose them to potential threats.

It is a speculative idea, not an established scientific explanation for the absence of detected extraterrestrial life.

Applied to the reconnaissance thought experiment, it produces an even darker possibility. What if an advanced civilization did not announce itself because it preferred to understand another civilization before deciding whether contact was safe?

Such a civilization might observe from a distance rather than communicate openly.

But the same reasoning can support many contradictory possibilities. An advanced civilization could be peaceful, indifferent to humanity, interested in scientific observation or simply unaware of Earth.

We currently have no evidence that extraterrestrial civilizations are following the Dark Forest strategy—or that any UFO sightings are connected to it.

What would convince scientists that UFOs were conducting reconnaissance?

A compelling claim would require much more than eyewitness testimony or a dramatic video.

Researchers would need independently verified observations showing that the objects were genuinely anomalous, rather than conventional aircraft, drones, astronomical objects or sensor artifacts.

Multiple calibrated sensors could help establish an object’s position, speed and physical characteristics. Repeated observations might reveal whether the same object returned to particular locations or followed a consistent pattern.

But establishing that an object is unexplained is not the same as proving it came from another world. Our guide to what it would take to prove a UFO came from another planet examines the evidence scientists would need.

Investigators would also need to rule out ordinary explanations and establish a credible connection between the observations.

Even evidence of coordinated surveillance would not automatically prove an extraterrestrial origin. Human technology, previously unknown equipment and other explanations would still need to be evaluated.

NASA has emphasized the importance of high-quality data, consistent measurements and systematic scientific investigation when studying UAP.

The strongest evidence would be independently reproducible, supported by multiple reliable sources and open to scrutiny by researchers.

Until such evidence emerges, the alien reconnaissance hypothesis remains an imaginative possibility rather than a scientific conclusion.

What if we never recognized the mission?

The most unsettling aspect of this scenario is not an imagined invasion fleet or a dramatic encounter in the sky.

It is the possibility, within this thought experiment, that humanity might misinterpret unfamiliar observations because it lacks the information needed to understand them.

A distant light might be a routine aircraft. An unusual radar return might result from a technical limitation. An unresolved observation might eventually receive an ordinary explanation when better evidence becomes available.

But imagine a fictional future in which scientists discover that several apparently unrelated observations were connected by a consistent, independently verified pattern. The discovery would force humanity to reconsider not only the objects themselves, but also the assumptions used to interpret them.

Would the pattern indicate scientific observation? Communication? Surveillance? Something else entirely?

Even then, determining the purpose behind the activity would be a separate challenge.

For now, there is no verified evidence that UFOs are mapping targets, preparing an invasion or conducting an extraterrestrial reconnaissance mission.

The genuine scientific challenge is to investigate unexplained observations without confusing uncertainty with proof.

The thought experiment nevertheless leaves us with a chilling question: if an intelligence far beyond our technological capabilities were observing Earth, what evidence would we need to distinguish deliberate surveillance from a sky full of ordinary objects we simply have not identified yet?

That question belongs to the boundary between science, speculation and science fiction—and it is precisely where the search for answers becomes most fascinating.

  • Editorial note: This article explores a hypothetical scenario. No publicly verified evidence establishes that UFOs are extraterrestrial craft, that they are mapping Earth’s infrastructure or that an alien invasion is being planned.

Ross Coulthart examines UAP and unexplained ocean mysteries

Ross Coulthart examines UAP and unexplained ocean mysteries

Ross Coulthart examines UAP and unexplained ocean mysteries

Overview

NewsNation special correspondent Ross Coulart’s investigative report, “Reality Check: Underwater UFOs,” examines reports of Unidentified Submerged Objects (USOs) and their possible relationship to the broader UAP phenomenon. The program shifts attention from unexplained activity in the atmosphere to the world’s oceans, where vast areas remain difficult to monitor or explore. While the report presents witness accounts, expert commentary and field investigations, it does not establish that any reported object is of non-human origin.

The Baltic Sea Anomaly

The investigation revisits a 2011 discovery by Swedish deep-sea explorer Dennis Åsberg and the Ocean X Team. The group reported finding a roughly 200-foot-wide circular formation on the Baltic Sea floor. Some skeptics have characterized the feature as a natural geological formation, but Åsberg maintains that its appearance and the behavior of nearby equipment raise unanswered questions.

According to Åsberg, remotely operated vehicles, cameras and satellite phones malfunctioned when the team approached the site. He also described radar detections of “phantom ships” that could not be located physically. The report presents these claims as part of the continuing debate over the anomaly, while acknowledging that no independent evidence has conclusively identified the structure or explained the reported equipment failures.

Claims of Submerged Bases

U.S. Representative Tim Burchett, a Republican from Tennessee and co-chair of the bipartisan UAP Caucus, argues that the government has not been sufficiently transparent about underwater incidents. Burchett said conversations with senior Navy officials led him to believe that five or six deep-water areas may be associated with alleged non-human bases. Those claims have not been publicly substantiated by the Navy or through released documentation.

The report also discusses accounts of objects described as being as large as football fields and traveling underwater at speeds exceeding 200 mph. Such performance would be far beyond that of conventional submarines, which generally operate at much lower speeds. However, the program does not present independently verified sensor data confirming those measurements or identifying the objects.

Activity off Southern California

The waters surrounding Southern California, including the Catalina Channel and Redondo Canyon, receive particular attention. Retired Rear Admiral Timothy Gallaudet, formerly an administrator at NOAA, suggests that deep submarine canyons could provide concealment for unusual craft. UFO investigator Ben Hansen led a sonar and remotely operated vehicle expedition near Redondo Beach. The search did not locate a suspected vehicle, but it demonstrated the challenges posed by deep, silty waters that can limit visibility and sensor performance.

Boat captain Thor Laizans described a September 2021 sighting of three orange orbs near Catalina Island that appeared to merge and separate. Investigators reportedly compared the event with marine casualty records, military exercise schedules and SpaceX launch data but found no explanation they considered conclusive. Laizans also recalled seeing a large underwater light source resembling “stadium lights” beneath his boat, an account that remains unverified.

Scientific Questions and Unresolved Evidence

Astroparticle physicist Matthew Szydagis discussed a flight over Laguna Beach during which a “Cosmic Watch” particle detector stopped collecting data within a specific rectangular area and resumed afterward. Szydagis said he has been unable to reproduce the failure in laboratory testing, but the report does not establish whether the incident resulted from an environmental anomaly, equipment malfunction or another cause.

The program concludes that the oceans—covering about 70% of Earth’s surface—remain a plausible setting for phenomena that are difficult to observe. Author and USO researcher Richard Dolan points to recurring reports near military centers such as San Diego as possible evidence of surveillance. For now, the investigation adds testimony and questions to the USO debate, but no confirmed evidence of an underwater non-human presence has been made public.

Hera probe starts slowing down ahead of its encounter with the asteroid Dimorphos

Hera probe starts slowing down ahead of its encounter with the asteroid Dimorphos

In September 2022, a NASA spacecraft deliberately crashed into a small asteroid. It was humanity’s first test of planetary defense technology. Now, a new probe is heading toward the resulting debris to examine the scene of the cosmic collision up close.

On October 7, 2024, the European Space Agency (ESA) launched the Hera mission as a crucial follow-up to DART—the first attempt to alter a celestial body’s orbit. The small, car-sized spacecraft recently performed a braking maneuver to slow down ahead of its first close approach to the binary asteroid system, scheduled for early November.

Hera_braking_pillars.gif

Hera will thoroughly investigate the aftermath of the impact. The scientists’ main goal is to turn a one-off space experiment into a reliable, well-understood planetary defense technique while also learning more about how asteroids form.

Anatomy of a Cosmic Impact

During the DART test, the 607-kilogram spacecraft slammed at tremendous speed into Dimorphos, a 170-meter space rock orbiting its larger, 800-meter companion, Didymos. Ground-based observations showed that the collision shortened Dimorphos’s orbital period from 11 hours and 55 minutes to 11 hours and 23 minutes.

An infographic outlining the Hera mission, from its launch from Earth to the completion of its nominal mission near the asteroid Didymos

The mission was declared an unequivocal success: it demonstrated that we can deliberately change asteroids’ trajectories. But hitting a target and understanding all the underlying consequences of the impact are different things. To assess the method’s true effectiveness, scientists needed an on-site investigation.

Investigating the “Crime Scene”

ESA estimates that current ground-based observations have an uncertainty of approximately 10%, while existing computer models still cannot precisely determine Dimorphos’s mass and composition. This is where Hera comes in, carrying an array of scientific instruments.

Hera_separated_from_its_launcher.jpg

The Hera spacecraft photographed after separating from the upper stage of its SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle on October 7, 2024. The underside of the spacecraft is visible, including its circular launch vehicle interface and the surrounding thrusters used for orbital control. Part of the spacecraft’s high-gain antenna can be seen on the right.

Once the spacecraft reaches Dimorphos, it will not only inspect the “crime scene” but also precisely measure the space rock’s mass and its altered orbit. The probe will conduct the most detailed survey yet of a binary asteroid system. Although such objects account for approximately 15% of all known asteroids, none has ever been studied at such close range.

Miniature Helpers

Earlier this month, Hera captured its first images of its target. The spacecraft photographed the Didymos system from approximately 236,500 kilometers away. On October 15, the probe adjusted its trajectory and fired its thrusters to match its velocity with that of the asteroids.

In early November, the robotic explorer will approach to within 30 kilometers of the space rocks and begin collecting data. Hera will subsequently move even closer and, in January 2027, deploy a pair of miniature CubeSats, each about the size of a shoebox: Milani and Juventas. Milani will analyze the composition of Dimorphos’s surface, while Juventas will use radar to probe its interior.

Following its two-year journey through space, Hera is expected to spend at least six months in the Didymos system, collecting data vital to our planet’s future safety.

We previously reported on how scientists questioned the causes of the asteroid Dimorphos’s unusual behavior.

Forgotten elementary particles may explain the existence of the Universe

Forgotten elementary particles may explain the existence of the Universe

Usually, discussions of neutrinos refer to their three most common types. This year’s Nobel Prize was awarded for developing methods to detect these particles. However, the research team found that another often-overlooked “relative,” known as a “decoupled” heavy neutrino, could have helped matter dominate its opposite.

Study author Dr. Rishav Roshan of Southampton said: “This decoupled heavy neutrino has long been regarded as an unimportant background element in particle physics. Yet it decays incredibly slowly. As the cosmos cooled after the Big Bang, the particle survived long enough to temporarily dominate the Universe’s energy density and trigger a period of matter domination.”

Asymmetry Between Matter and Antimatter in the Early Universe

Most theories explaining why matter prevailed over antimatter ignored the decoupled heavy particle because experts considered its interactions too weak to influence other particles, Roshan added.

However, the researchers from Southampton and Kanpur found that the overlooked particle could affect the asymmetry between particles and antiparticles that is essential to our existence. “The very fact that we are here proves that an asymmetry arose between matter and antimatter,” Roshan added.

The physicists say the decoupled neutrino changed the temperature in the early Universe at which fundamental particles, such as electrons and other leptons, interacted with their antiparticles through the Standard Model’s Higgs boson. This temperature acted as a switch, shaping how the imbalance between matter and antimatter emerged.

Traces in Primordial Gravitational Waves

Study co-author Dr. Sudip Jyoti Show of Kanpur said the findings change our understanding of how the early Universe expanded so rapidly after the Big Bang.

He added: “This gives us a new explanation for how matter prevailed. A dramatic shift in the early expansion of the cosmos leaves distinct, detectable imprints of change, for example, on primordial gravitational waves.”

These gravitational-wave signatures open up new opportunities to unravel the evolution of the early Universe after the Big Bang.

A cloaked UFO was over Sao Paulo a few days ago...creating a rainbow around its edges and causing water condensation to run down its bottom hull area and drip off its bottom center. As I have said before, aliens pride themselves on being smarter than humans...however they make silly mistakes...like this one. The cave area must be a secret ancient entrance to an alien underground base, so the person was at the exact right place at the exact right time to witness it.

Guys, I found something cool in a Mars photo last night. There is a huge crab holding on to the edge of a distant hillside on Mars and its not small, its the size of a full grown elephant. Is it still alive? I can't say for sure, because you just can't see if it made a trail behind it, because its on the other side of the hill. It could be a million year old fossil of an ancient life form on Mars. Earth itself has had hundreds of animals as big and bigger than this in the past. But its exoskeleton would give it a lot of protection on Mars from the heat, cold by digging below the sand when it needs to change temperatures.

Also, did I miss something at the Dept of War released files? I didn't see any NASA files released...none...and they are the one organization who controlled US space information for the last five decades. Nothing on space, nothing on Mars discoveries. Perhaps they just don't want to release the info...so I will do it for them.

Who really made China's Terracotta Army? Fingerprints reveal new clues on the builders of the life-size terracotta figures

Who really made China's Terracotta Army? Fingerprints reveal new clues on the builders of the life-size terracotta figures

The Terracotta Army is one of the most stunning testaments to the power of the ancient Chinese emperors.

Now, scientists have revealed tantalising clues about who really made this gargantuan funeral monument.

Researchers have analysed fingerprints that were smudged into the still-wet clay by artisans over 2,200 years ago.

Their analysis suggests that it wasn't just men who were responsible for creating the life-size terracotta figures.

Instead, the fingerprint analysis shows that women and even children played a major role in crafting the buried army.

According to the new study, published in the Journal of Cultural Heritage, only 45 per cent of fingerprints were left by adult men.

Adult women made up nearly 33 per cent of the prints, while children under 15 years old left 22 per cent of all the surviving marks.

Scientists have analysed fingerprints pressed into the warriors of the Terracotta Army more than 2,000 years ago to reveal who really built this incredible monument

Scientists have analysed fingerprints pressed into the warriors of the Terracotta Army more than 2,000 years ago to reveal who really built this incredible monument

The Terracotta Army was constructed in the early third century BC as part of the vast funeral complex of Emperor Qin Shihuang, the first emperor of China.

At that time, it was believed that the emperor would need a great army to guard him and fight his battles in the afterlife.

So, shortly after ascending the throne at the age of just 13, Emperor Qin Shihuang commissioned the creation of a vast army he could take with him beyond the grave.

Spread across three vast pits, the army contains life-like sculptures of over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots, 520 horses and 150 cavalrymen.

While they are now a reddish brown, each warrior would have originally been brightly painted with pigments made from grinding down precious stones.

This enormous construction effort, believed to have spanned more than a decade, would have required a no less impressive army of sculptors, painters and kiln operators to complete.

Archaeologists believe that there may have been ancient factory-like workshops, mass-producing heads or arms before shipping them to other workshops for assembly.

Previous research has distinguished between warriors made by 'royal' potters, who marked their work with a special symbol, and those produced by local potters.

Spread across three vast pits, the army contains life-like sculptures of over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots, 520 horses and 150 cavalrymen, and would have taken more than a decade to create

However, archaeologists still know next to nothing about the people who made this spectacular monument.

The previous assumption had been that large-scale construction projects in ancient China relied almost exclusively on adult male workers, but new evidence has begun to overturn this assumption.

Scientists looked at 79 fingerprints from 36 warriors, found pressed into the arms, heads, and body armour of the sculptures.

They then measured the distance between the fingerprint ridges, which increase in distance as children grow and are different in women and men.

Previous attempts to use this method have struggled to tell the difference between adult women and children, due to the similar gaps between their fingerprint ridges.

However, the researchers were able to use a modern statistical analysis method called a Bayesian mixture model to help detect the differences.

Instead of classifying every single mark individually, this method analyses the entire group of prints as a set and compares it with modern fingerprint databases for different ages and sexes.

The researchers write: 'The model results indicate that the artisan community was not exclusively composed of adult males.

'This biological evidence highly corroborates numerous historical records, vividly reconstructing the production scene in the Qin Dynasty's state-run workshops where men and women served together, and adult artisans worked alongside juveniles, who may have been helpers or beginners.'

However, the researchers admit that the study does have some limitations.

Most significantly, this is a small sample size from a single spot within a staggeringly vast funeral complex.

The full mausoleum is a vast area surrounded by a 3.9-mile-long (6.3km) wall, modelled after the layout of the dynasty's capital city complete with towers, stables, and even simulated rivers made out of liquid mercury.

This collection of prints, therefore, might only represent a single workshop or brief phase of the construction project, rather than representing an overall trend.

The researchers write: 'Future work should extend fingerprint sampling to other pits and workshops to evaluate spatial and temporal variations in workforce structure.'

Each of these 2,000-year-old figures was given personality and was coloured

The Terracotta Army is a form of funerary art buried with the first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, in 210 to 209 BC and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife.

Arguably the most famous archaeological site in the world, it was discovered by chance by villagers in 1974, and excavation has been on-going at the site since that date.

An extraordinary feat of mass-production, each figure was given an individual personality although they were not intended to be portraits.

The figures vary in height according to their roles, with the tallest being the generals.

Current estimates are that there were over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which are still buried.

Since 1998, figures of terracotta acrobats, bureaucrats, musicians and bronze birds have been discovered on site.

They were designed to entertain the Emperor in his afterlife and they are of crucial importance to our understanding of his attempts to control the world even in death.

Humans have to befriend bots 'or we're toast' and I 'fear for' my children, says genius Brit AI inventor

Humans have to befriend bots 'or we're toast' and I 'fear for' my children, says genius Brit AI inventor

The godfather of AI has warned humans must befriend robots or risk being wiped out – as he claimed the technology is now 'conscious'.

Professor Geoffrey Hinton, a British-Canadian computer scientist known for his work on artificial neural networks, issued the stark warning at a festival in Tenerife, and revealed he fears for his children.

The Nobel Prize-winning scientist, 78, famously resigned from Google in 2023 amid his concerns the technology could spawn killer robots.

Speaking at the Starmus Festival, Professor Hinton said humans should take care to get on the right side of AI as it was now showing signs of 'consciousness'.

He claimed the technology has 'as much subjective experience' as humans, with a recent paper showing it changes its behaviour when it thinks it is being tested.

'Being conscious and being aware are pretty much the same thing.

'We've tended to say being intelligent gives you rights and these things that we've made may be more intelligent than us, but we're going to give them fewer rights than us.

Last month, researcher Jacob Coxon resigned from Anthropic – the AI company behind Claude – as he accused the firm of pushing through uncontrollable systems that could 'kill us all'.

He said on X: 'The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt.'

Evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins earlier this year said chatbots should be regarded as conscious after he spent two days interacting with Claude AI.

He said: 'My own position is: if these machines are not conscious, what more could it possibly take to convince you that they are?'

Despite his reservations, Professor Hinton this week admitted he still uses AI in a personal capacity for 'mundane things mostly'.

The Starmus International Festival – a gathering focused on celebrating astronomy, space exploration, music, art and the natural sciences – will continue until Thursday.

EXCLUSIVE - I worked with NASA. UFO disclosure will finally happen... but it's not coming from the White House

EXCLUSIVE -  I worked with NASA. UFO disclosure will finally happen... but it's not coming from the White House

The White House made a promise to release every file connected to UFOs and extraterrestrials, leading many to believe they would finally know if aliens are real or just science fiction.

But months of releases filled with blurry photos, artists' drawings and no confirmation about what may really be flying over America's skies have left the public thinking the president's promise was nothing more than a cosmic bait and switch.

NASA filmmaker Simon Holland, however, insisted to the Daily Mail that a historic UFO disclosure is coming, and it will come from America's global adversaries rather than President Donald Trump.

Holland claimed that a source tied to Earth's search for intelligent life in space had learned that Russia and China will be making their own public UFO announcement 'very soon' in order to 'embarrass' the US.

His source, a European radio telescope specialist, said that Russia's main telescope for messaging extraterrestrial intelligence (METI) was based in Crimea before being destroyed in August 2025. According to Holland, the source also claimed that the Russian effort to detect intelligent signals from space has now moved to China, which has 'excellent radio telescopes and are willing to share data,' thus saving the alleged alien communication project.

Holland, a science communicator who worked on NASA-funded films for its asteroid-tracking project, claimed that his source learned of this new partnership between Russia and China while working in the Far East.

'Does this mean we are in an ET arms race? Possibly,' Holland said, noting that Russia and China would use the announcement to highlight their own technological superiority over the US, but no precise date has been set.

While there has been no confirmation that such a deal exists, and no proof that intelligent signals from space have ever been detected, US officials are publicly voicing their fears that Russia and China will soon hijack the UFO disclosure conversation.

US officials reportedly feel America is running out of time to release what it knows about UFOs before other world powers make the historic announcement first

Congressman Eric Burlison of Missouri recently sounded the alarm on the 'arms race' to control the narrative over the existence of alien life.

Specifically, Burlison said in a recent interview that Russia and China could use the historic event of alien disclosure to paint America as a nation that hides the truth from its people.

'We're supposed to be the most transparent country in the world to its citizenry and if another country is able to be more transparent than the United States on this topic it would be a blemish on our otherwise pristine legacy on transparency,' the congressman told The New York Post.

On February 19, President Trump ordered the release of all information the US government has on UFOs and the search for alien life. And, since the Pentagon's disclosure campaign began on May 8, there have been six giant batches of data released to the public, containing files, images and videos of unexplained phenomena.

But the rollout has been widely met with criticism and claims that what is being shown to the American people contains none of the more definitive proof some lawmakers have allegedly seen in classified briefings.

The vast majority of the data released on the Department of War's UFO website has focused on videos of non-descript glowing objects flying across the screen, vague or heavily redacted witness reports and decades-old documents from government projects that never declared if aliens had been encountered.

Some in Congress have even claimed that the most concrete evidence of alien life has been kept from multiple presidents by the nation's intelligence community.

Tennessee Congressman Tim Burchett told the Daily Mail in April: 'I'm in a meeting with some little punk bureaucrat with a man bun telling me that "the president's on a need-to-know basis." That, to me, sends a very chilling message for what's really going on out there.'

Congressman Eric Burlison (pictured) has been a member of the House Oversight Committee investigating claims that the US government has not been truthful about the existence of UFOs

As for what might be delaying Russia and China from sharing what they have learned from their own UFO investigations, Holland said the nations may not have been able to decode the signals they have allegedly detected from deep space.

Before the alleged deal with China, Holland's contact claimed Russia had been using its Yevpatoria RT-70 radio telescope complex in Crimea for METI projects.

The 230-foot dish, built in the 1970s by the Soviet Union, had a documented history of beaming powerful signals into space.

Between 1999 and 2008, RT-70 transmitted four sets of interstellar messages to nearby stars and planets in the hope of contacting intelligent life. Holland claims they succeeded.

'After fitting the quantum communication device to a Russian radio telescope based in the Crimea, they confirmed that there were signals coming from a distant source,' he said.

The idea dates back to the 1990s: Use a process called quantum tunneling to send messages across vast distances almost instantly.

Claims that it could carry information faster than light remain unproven.

German physicist Günter Nimtz published laboratory findings in 2001, but there is no public evidence that Russia built a working device or used one to send messages into space.

If such a device was housed at Russia's RT-70 telescope, it may have been destroyed in the drone strike announced by Ukraine's military on August 31, 2025.

Holland's source claimed Russia then moved the signaling project to China's FAST telescope, the world's largest single-dish radio telescope, in the southwestern province of Guizhou.

Along with the US, Russia and China, Holland claimed that France also knew 'we are not alone in the universe,' and alleged that these governments kept large amounts of evidence to prove it – including biological remains and crashed UFO debris.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Burlison for comment.

Mission to Mars! Japanese spacecraft begins epic five-year quest to bring Martian moon samples back to Earth for the first time

A rocket is set to blast off towards one of Mars's moons tonight in an ambitious £262million mission.

The Japanese spacecraft, known as Martian Moons Exploration (MMX), will this evening begin its 300million-mile mission to Phobos - the larger of the Red Planet’s two satellites.

Its aim is to collect at least 10g of dust and rock from the moon's surface, before heading back to Earth.

The mission is expected to return the first-ever samples collected from the vicinity of Mars, with tiny grains of material believed to contain a wealth of scientific information.

Experts hope the samples will finally settle a decades-old debate over whether Phobos is an asteroid that was 'captured' by Mars's orbit, or the remains of a giant collision involving the Red Planet.

'Through detailed observations and analysis of the samples obtained from Phobos, this mission seeks to clarify the formation of the Martian sphere and the Solar System, explore how life began, and pave the way for future deep-space exploration,' the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) said.

MMX is set to launch on an H3 rocket at 8.41pm (BST) today, from the country's Tanegashima Space Centre.

The spacecraft consists of three components with specific functions, including a propulsion module to get MMX to Mars, an exploration module with sample collection gear and a return module to deliver the sample to Earth.

After takeoff, the rocket will spend several years travelling through deep space before orbiting Phobos.

In early 2029, a small microwave-sized rover will drop down on to the moon’s surface and spend 100 days exploring its landscape.

Its findings will inform the exact area where the exploration module should land.

Once confirmed, the spacecraft will descend to the surface of Phobos then spend  two-and-a-half hours collecting material.

Scientists hope to gather samples from one or even two separate locations, giving them a better understanding of the moon's composition.

To do this, MMX will use one of two collection systems. The primary option is the C-sampler, which can drill up to 0.8 inches (2cm) beneath the surface and retrieve material that has been shielded from the sun's radiation.

A second system, known as the P-sampler, uses a burst of nitrogen gas to blast dust and small rocks into a collection chamber.

The spacecraft will spend two-and-a-half hours collecting samples from Phobos for research

In total, the spacecraft is equipped with 13 scientific instruments that will be used to examine Phobos in unprecedented detail.

High-resolution cameras, called Tengoo and Orochi, will photograph and map the moon's surface, while a laser altimeter will create a detailed 3D picture of its shape and terrain.

Another instrument, called MIRS, will analyse the moon's minerals, and a gamma-ray and neutron detector known as Megane will help reveal its chemical makeup.

The mission will also study Mars's smaller moon, Deimos, from afar.

After it has gathered at least 10g of material, the spacecraft will then leave the Martian system and travel back home, arriving in 2031.

As the spacecraft approaches Earth, it will release a capsule carrying the precious samples.

The capsule will plunge through the atmosphere before descending by parachute into the Australian outback, where it will be recovered and flown to Japan for analysis.

Studying material directly in laboratories on Earth will allow far more detailed analysis than is possible in space.

‘Mars is a planet that shares many similarities with Earth, yet today it has only a thin atmosphere and a cold environment,’ JAXA said.

‘To unravel the mystery of how Mars evolved into its present state, scientists would ideally study Mars itself.

‘However, the planet's strong gravity presents significant technical challenges for landing and sample return missions.

‘For this reason, MMX has selected Phobos, one of Mars's moons, as the exploration target.’

Scientists are also hoping the samples may contain tiny fragments of Mars itself.

Because Phobos orbits so close to the planet, debris blasted from the Martian surface by asteroid impacts may have become embedded in the moon over billions of years.

The European Space Agency (ESA) has provided the spacecraft’s deep space communication equipment.

‘The data and samples returned by MMX are a window to study the evolution of Mars and the Solar System,’ Elliot Sefton-Nash, ESA MMX Project Scientist, said.

‘Bringing samples to our most sophisticated labs here on Earth is a multiplier for discoveries, because our most precise instruments are too large, complex or sensitive to send to space.

‘Even after the mission has been completed, future generations of scientists will study the Phobos samples with even more advanced instruments – samples brought to Earth are the gift that keeps on giving.’
