Toch weer twijfels over stromend zout water op Mars

Nieuw onderzoek suggereert dat de donkere strepen die in warme seizoenen op Mars te zien zijn, amper of zelfs helemaal geen water bevatten.

Het is een bekend fenomeen op de rode planeet: de Recurring Slope Lineae (RSL). Het zijn donkere strepen op hellingen – bijvoorbeeld kraterwanden – die alleen in de warmere seizoenen op Mars te zien zijn. De strepen zijn doorgaans minder dan vijf meter breed en verdwijnen weer als het kouder wordt.

Stromend zout water
Waaruit bestaan deze donkere strepen toch? Vorig jaar dachten onderzoekers het eindelijk te weten. Ze ontdekten op de plekken waar de donkere streepjes opdoken, gehydrateerde zoutmineralen en stelden dat de donkere strepen het resultaat zijn van zout stromend water. Het was wereldnieuws: opeens bleken er in ons zonnestelsel niet één, maar twee planeten te zijn waarop vloeibaar water stroomde (de aarde én Mars).

Temperatuur
Nieuw onderzoek geeft echter een iets genuanceerder beeld. Wetenschappers bestudeerden de donkere strepen dit keer met het Thermal Emmission Imaging System (THEMIS) aan boord van de ruimtesonde Mars Odyssey. Dit instrument meet de grondtemperatuur op Mars en uit die grondtemperatuur kunnen de onderzoekers dan weer afleiden hoeveel water de Recurring Slope Lineae bevatten. Want wanneer water aanwezig is in de ruimte tussen zanddeeltjes, dan is dat van invloed op hoe snel een stukje grond overdag opwarmt en ’s nachts afkoelt.

Weinig water
Uit het onderzoek blijkt dat de Recurring Slope Lineae veel minder water bevatten dan gedacht. Als de RSL een heel dun laagje water bevattende grond bezitten, dan zou die laag niet meer dan drie gram water per kilogram grond bevatten. Daarmee zou de grond ongeveer net zoveel water bevatten als de droogste plekken op aarde (de Atacama-woestijn en de Dry Valleys op Antarctica). Als de laag grond die water bevat dikker is, zou de hoeveelheid water per kilogram grond nog kleiner zijn.

Droog of nat?
De onderzoekers sluiten niet uit dat water een rol speelt bij het ontstaan van de Recurring Slope Lineae. “Maar de duisternis van de grond hangt niet samen met grote hoeveelheden water, hetzij vloeibaar of bevroren,” vertelt onderzoeker Christopher Edwards. Hij benadrukt dat echter niet kan worden uitgesloten dat volledig droge mechanismen aan het ontstaan van de RSL ten grondslag liggen.

Het nieuwe onderzoek veegt het eerdere onderzoek dat stelde dat de RSL rijk waren aan gehydrateerde zoutmineralen niet van tafel, zo benadrukken de onderzoekers. “Je kunt gehydrateerd zout hebben, zonder genoeg water te hebben om de ruimtes tussen deeltjes te vullen,” legt Edwards uit. “Zouten kunnen gehydrateerd raken door waterdamp uit de atmosfeer te trekken, daar heb je dus geen ondergrondse waterbron voor nodig.” En daarmee zijn de donkere strepen op het oppervlak van Mars dus eigenlijk weer het mysterie dat ze sinds hun ontdekking in 2011 waren. Nog altijd weten we niet waardoor de donkere strepen ontstaan en weer verdwijnen. Stromend water lijkt in ieder geval niet zo’n grote – of zelfs helemaal geen – rol te spelen.

Russian Government Hiding Alien Race of Underwater Beings?

Undersea phenomenon isn’t new to Russian submarines as they have been encountering it since the days of the Soviet Union.

The files on the so-called unidentified submersible objects (USOs) are still not available for public scrutiny. However, some of the sightings about encounters with undersea creatures and massive objects have leaked out. Researchers Paul Stonehill and Philip Mantle talked about the secret conflict in a new book.

They believe Russian government has been preventing any witnesses to tell the public on the truth beneath the waves.

They claim these encounters range from UFOs duping craft into the sea, meetings with underwater lifeforms, and mysterious submersibles.

One of the most extraordinary is what they called “The Swimmers”.

These so-called alien humanoids stand at three-meter tall and live at 50 meters in the icy underwater around Siberia.

Stonehill and Mantle feature the testimony of Major General V. Demyanenko, a Russian commander of the Military Diver Service. He reportedly warned his crews on the unknown creatures after some encounters in 1982.

These creatures are reportedly clad in a silvery suit and wearing sphere helmets. Soviet Navy divers of seven were thrown to the surface by a mysterious force after they tried to capture one of the creatures in a net.

In another odd encounter, Steamship Raduga has seen a massive fireball emerging from the ocean while sailing in the Red Sea in 1965. The unusual thing allegedly hovered 150 meters above the surface with a gigantic pillar of water around it before it dived again.

Russia Chief of the Pacific fleet’s intelligence department, Admiral V.A. Domislovsky, claimed to have seen an estimated 900 meters long object floating above the water in the Pacific Ocean.

Rear Admiral and nuclear submarine commander Yury Beketov claimed to have witnessed a mysterious activity involving USO in the Bermuda triangle. Based on their radar, the object was moving 250 mph below the surface.

Mr. Mantle said that the Soviet Union’s military fleet commanders kept their secret about the USO subject, and those witnesses who tried to share their experiences were debunked and ridiculed.

Scientists Confirm Ghost Galaxy 99.99% Dark Matter With Almost No Stars

The Milky Way has a dark twin. A dimly lit massive galaxy, called Dragonfly 44, consists of a record 99.99 per cent dark matter, and could help rewrite our theories of galaxy formation.

Dragonfly 44 is the Milky Way’s doppelgänger in mass, but its opposite in number of stars and structure.

“If you take the Milky Way and for every 100 stars you keep only one, then you’re getting pretty close,” says Pieter van Dokkum at Yale University. “You also have to put those remaining stars in a blender and mix them all up into a blob.” This galaxy doesn’t have the iconic spiral structure of the Milky Way nor is it a flat disc.

A dragonfly’s eye

And it’s not alone. Van Dokkum and his colleagues spotted it and its neighbours in 2014 with an array of telephoto lenses.

“By pulling them all together into this array, which makes them look like the eyes of an insect, we gather a lot more light,” says van Dokkum. Naturally, they called it Dragonfly.

When the team aimed Dragonfly at the Coma cluster, an immense cluster of galaxies 320 million light years away, they detected 47 faint smudges: galaxies that could be at least as large as the Milky Way, 100,000 light years from end to end, but which contain so few stars that they glow as dimly as dwarf galaxies.

There are two explanations for the appearance of these galaxies: they may be tightly bound by dark matter, the so-far-undetected substance thought to make up about 85 per cent of the mass of the universe. Either that, or they’re unstable – and the violent Coma cluster is currently ripping them to shreds.

How can it have so much dark matter?

To find out, van Dokkum and his colleagues observed Dragonfly 44, one of the largest of the galaxies, with the spectrograph on board the 10-metre Keck II telescope on Mauna Kea, Hawaii. This allowed the team to track how fast its few stars move around the galaxy and therefore calculate its mass: a faster speed means a more massive galaxy.

The team found that the stars clocked in at 47 kilometres per second, making Dragonfly 44 roughly a trillion times more massive than the sun. With so little normal matter, it must contains 99.99 per cent dark matter to hold itself together, which is much higher than the universe at large. It  beats another  similarly dark galaxy in the Virgo cluster discovered earlier this year, which is 99.96 per cent dark matter.

But astronomers are baffled as to how these dark galaxies arise. “It’s hard to argue with the observations, yet the conclusion from this paper runs counter to my understanding of how galaxies are formed,” says Marla Geha at Yale University. “I’m hoping these objects are rather rare and/or only form in special environments such as a dense galaxy cluster. Otherwise we may need to rewrite galaxy formation.”

It would provide humankind with near limitless energy, ending dependence on fossil fuels for generating electricity. 

US Government physicists have backed plans to create ‘a star in a jar’ – replicating on Earth the way the sun and stars create energy through fusion. 

Physicists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) revealed their plan for a next generation fusion device in a paper published in the journal Nuclear Fusion.

‘We are opening up new options for future plants,’ said lead author Jonathan Menard, program director for the recently completed National Spherical Torus Experiment-Upgrade (NSTX-U) at PPPL.

Spherical tokamaks are compact devices that are shaped like cored apples, compared with the bulkier doughnut-like shape of conventional tokamaks. 

The plants already exists in experimental form – the compact spherical tokamaks at PPPL and Culham, England.

These tokamaks, or fusion reactors, could provide the design for possible next steps in fusion energy – a Fusion Nuclear Science Facility (FNSF) that would develop reactor components and also produce electricity as a pilot plant for a commercial fusion power station. 

HOW DOES FUSION POWER WORK?

Fusion involves placing hydrogen atoms under high heat and pressure until they fuse into helium atoms.

When deuterium and tritium nuclei – which can be found in hydrogen – fuse, they form a helium nucleus, a neutron and a lot of energy.

This is down by heating the fuel to temperatures in excess of 150 million°C, forming a hot plasma. 

Strong magnetic fields are used to keep the plasma away from the walls so that it doesn’t cool down and lost it energy potential.

These are produced by superconducting coils surrounding the vessel, and by an electrical current driven through the plasma. 

For energy production, plasma has to be confined for a sufficiently long period for fusion to occur.

The increased power of the upgraded PPPL machine and the soon-to-be completed MAST Upgrade device moves them closer to commercial fusion plants, the researchers say.

The NSTX-U and MAST facilities ‘will push the physics frontier, expand our knowledge of high temperature plasmas, and, if successful, lay the scientific foundation for fusion development paths based on more compact designs,’ said PPPL Director Stewart Prager.

However, the devices face a number of physics challenges. 

For example, they must control the turbulence that arises when superhot plasma particles are subjected to powerful electromagnetic fields. 

They must also carefully control how the plasma particles interact with the surrounding walls to avoid possible disruptions that can halt fusion reactions if the plasma becomes too dense or impure. 

Researchers at PPPL, Culham, and elsewhere are looking at ways of solving these challenges for the next generation of fusion devices.

The spherical design produces high-pressure plasmas – the superhot charged gas also known as the fourth state of matter that fuels fusion reactions – with relatively low and inexpensive magnetic fields. 

This unique capability points the way to a possible next generation of fusion experiments to complement ITER, the international tokamak that 35 nations including the United States are building in France to demonstrate the feasibility of fusion power. 

ITER is a doughnut-shaped tokamak that will be largest in the world when completed within the next decade.

This causes the magnetic field to be stronger in the centre than it is on the outer side.

As a result, plasma contained in a tokamak can moves to the outer walls where it then collapses.

In stellarators, plasma is contained by external magnetic coils which create twisted field lines around the inside of the vacuum chamber, according to Science.

As such, it overcomes can continuously hold the plasma away from the walls of the device.

Its key component is a ring 50 superconducting magnetic coils approximately 3.5 metres in height. In total the device is 16-meters-wide.

The stellarator design was first thought up in 1951 by Lyman Spitzer working at Princeton University.

But at the time, it was thought to be too complex for the constraints of materials available in the middle of the 20th Century.

Now using supercomputers and new materials, researchers have finally made Spitzer’s vision a reality.

While the Tokamak design is ideal for containing this plasma, it poses some safety risks, for instance, if the current fails or there’s a magnetic disruption 

‘We all know the trend of global development, the hunger for energy of emerging economies and emerging countries,’ said Professor Johanna Wanka, Federal Minister for Education and Research.

‘So when we talk about energy, we need research that keeps all options open. And one of these options is nuclear fusion.

‘Wendelstein 7-X is an important step forward allowing us to better evaluate the ‘fusion option.’

The machine took 1.1 million hours to assemble, using what has been described as one of the world’s most complex engineering models.

Testing of the magnetic field in the Wendelstein 7-X fusion device was completed in June – much sooner than expected.

The test revealed that the magnetic cage for the fusion plasma, which has a temperature of many million degrees, was working as scientists predicted. 

If the machine works for longer periods of time, scientists believe it could herald a change in the direction for fusion power.

Ancient Egyptian metropolis lost for 1,200 years below Mediterranean sea set to go on display

The ‘lost city of Atlantis has eluded explorers for centuries and is almost certainly the stuff of myth.

Staggeringly, though, an ancient city that is Atlantis in all  but name has emerged from under the sea near Alexandria — and now the  lost world of Heracleion is giving up  its treasures.

Just as in the classical tale, Heracleion was once a prosperous, thriving city before it was engulfed by the sea around 1,500 years ago. It was grand enough to be mentioned by the Greek writer Herodotus, the 5th-century BC historian.

He told the fabulous story of Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in the world — she of the face that launched a thousand ships — travelling to Heracleion, then a port of ‘great wealth’, with her glamorous Trojan lover, Paris.

Among the most important monuments that were discovered at the temple area of Thonis-Heracleion is this monolithic chapel dating to the Ptolemaic period

But no physical evidence of such a grand settlement appeared until 2001, when a group led by French marine archaeologist Franck Goddio stumbled upon some relics that led them to one of the greatest finds of the 21st century.

Goddio was in search of Napoleon’s warships from the 1798 Battle of the Nile, when he was defeated by Nelson in these very waters, but came upon this much more significant discovery.

Goddio’s team has since been joined by the Oxford Centre for Maritime Archaeology and the Department of Antiquities of Egypt to produce a wealth of dazzling finds.

The archaeologists first faced the mammoth task of reassembling massive stone fragments on the seabed before they could haul them to the surface. Twelve years on, their fabulous finds have been exposed to public view for the first time after more than a millennium spent beneath the silt and water of Aboukir Bay, 20 miles north-east of Alexandria.

Among the discoveries are colossal statues of the Egyptian goddess Isis, the god Hapi, and an unidentified Egyptian pharaoh — all preserved in immaculate condition by their muddy burial shroud. Along with these 16ft statues there are hundreds of smaller statues of Egyptian gods — among them the figures that guarded the temple where Cleopatra was inaugurated as Queen of the Nile.

It seems the Amun-Gereb temple at Heracleion was the Egyptian equivalent of Westminster Abbey, where our own Queen was crowned 60 years ago.

Dozens of sarcophagi have been found, containing the bodies of mummified animals sacrificed to Amun-Gereb, the supreme god of the Egyptians. Many amulets, or religious charms, have been unearthed, too, showing gods such as Isis, Osiris and Horus.

These were made not just for the Egyptians but for visiting traders, who incorporated them into their own religions and also, one imagines, kept them as trinkets to remind them of their far-flung journeys.

The importance of Heracleion has been further proved by the discovery of 64 ships — the largest number of ancient vessels ever found in one place — and a mind-boggling 700 anchors.

Other finds illustrate how crucial Heracleion was to the economy of the ancient world. Gold coins and lead, bronze and stone weights from Athens (used to measure the value of goods and to calculate the tax owed) show that Heracleion was a lucrative Mediterranean trading post.

In the ancient world, the Mediterranean Sea was their equivalent of a superfast motorway. All their greatest cities, including Constantinople, Rome and Athens, were either on the coast or on rivers with easy access to it.

And now Heracleion can be added to their number as Egypt’s most important port during the time of the later pharaohs. It was, if you like, a major motorway junction — the spot where the Nile, Egypt’s lifeline, met the Med. Archaeologists have determined that as well as having a naturally navigable channel next to its ancient harbour, a further artificial channel appears to have been dug to expedite trade.

The Heracleion finds will add tremendous depth to our understanding of the ancient world — not least because, among the discoveries, there are perfectly preserved steles (inscribed pillars) decorated with hieroglyphics. Translated, they will reveal much about the religious and political life in this corner of ancient Egypt.

It was a similar inscription on the Rosetta Stone — discovered in the Nile Delta town of Rosetta in 1799 by a French soldier, and now in the British Museum — that cracked the code of hieroglyphics in the first place.

And like the Rosetta Stone, those steles found beneath the waters of Aboukir Bay are inscribed in Greek and Egyptian, too. Who knows how many more archaeological gems will be uncovered at Heracleion?

The very name of the city is taken from that most famous of Greek heroes, Heracles — aka Hercules — whose 12 labours, from killing the  Hydra  to capturing Cerberus, the multi-headed hellhound that guarded the gates of the Underworld, captivated the ancient world.

Heraklion, Crete’s capital and largest city, is also named after Heracles, as was Herculaneum, the ancient Roman town that was buried under ash when Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD.

It appears that Heracleion faded in importance in the later classical period, eclipsed by its neighbouring city of Alexandria, which became the capital of Egypt in 312BC.

Still, Heracleion lingered on, later under Roman control, until it slipped into its watery grave some time in the 6th or 7th century AD. What a thrilling discovery we have on our hands now that the sea has, 1,500 years later, given up one of its greatest secrets.

The Anunnaki are said to be a group of deities in several ancient Mesopotamian cultures like the Sumerian, Akkadian, Assyrian, and Babylonian.

 

The Anunnaki are also one of the MOST controversial subjects among many people around the globe. Millions of people around the world believe the Ancient Anunnaki are the creators of man and are not mythological beings but in fact flesh and blood ‘gods’ who came to Earth in the distant past.

Mainstream scholars use the term Igigi to reference the mythological Sumerian deities. According to mainstream academics, the Igigi were the younger servants of the Anunnaki, who initiated a rebellion against their masters and dictatorship of Enlil. Eventually, the Anunnaki replaced the Igigi with humans.

Satellite images of Mars reveal fascinating ‘structures’ buried beneath the surface

Images taken by the HiRISE camera onboard the MRO orbiting Mars seem to indicate intelligently designed structures and subdivision which seem to be of logical proportions of the base dimensions. The anomalies found at the Hellas Planitia have roughly the same length and similar straight features that spread across a distance of one kilometer.

Throughout human history, as far as there are written records, the red planet has captured the interest of ancient civilizations around the world in a magical way.

 

But is there something more to this mysterious planet other than it’s red color and authority in the skies?

 

How much do we know today about Mars?

 

And what if governments worldwide are not telling everything they know about the red planet?

 

In the last couple of years, we have learned so much about the red planet.

 

We have come to understand that Mars isn’t a desolate, dead world as researchers previously believed.

 

In fact, Mars may have been Earth’s twin planet in the distant past.

 

 

Scientists have found a couple of extremely interesting clues that suggest life may have developed on Mars in the distant past.

 

Not long ago, scientists discovered that there is liquid water flowing on the surface of Mars. Researchers have also found traces of giant oceans, rivers, and lakes that covered most of the Martian surface.

 

Experts have also discovered faint traces of a once mighty atmosphere that encircled the red planet in the distant past.

 

Recently, researchers have discovered that in the distant past, Mars had a ‘human’ breathable atmosphere.

 

Using the ChemCam instrument aboard Curiosity, scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratory have discovered high levels of manganese oxides in cracks filled with minerals present in some Martian rocks of the Kimberley region in the Gale crater.

 

The presence of this chemical suggests that in the past there were sufficient levels of oxygen in the atmosphere of Mars, which would have made the planet “breathable” for humans.

 

As you can see, every discovery points to the possibility that life as we know it may have developed on Mars in the distant past.

 

The question remains how much life on Mars may have developed.

 

Was life on Mars just microbial?

Or is it possible that the planet offered ideal conditions in the past, for an advanced alien species to flourish on Mars?

 

Curiously, based on the numerous satellite images of Mars and photographs taken by NASAs rovers exploring the surface of the red planet, people around the globe have been able to identify certain ‘anomalies’ on Mars which ‘seem’ to indicate an advanced species, capable of erecting structures, once flourished on Mars.

 

Now, these structures are covered under the Martian surface and are barely visible according to many.

 

A perfect example of possible structures is identifiable in the images taken by the HiRISE Camera on board the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) at the Hellas Planitia on Mars.

UFO hunters believe the Hellas Planitia on Mars may hide an anomaly indicative of intelligently designed structure buried under the surface.

 

According to a post written on ATS, the author indicates that the first formation seen in the satellite images is the most noteworthy mostly because of the subdivision which seems to be of logical proportions of the base dimensions.

 

The author explains that all of the formations seen in the Hellas Planitia have roughly the same length and similar straight features that spread across a distance of one kilometer.

 

While the author remains reserved saying that they do not have to be necessarily artificial in nature, their extraordinary alignments and subdivision are something noteworthy to mention.

The Soviet era had the Ministry of Defense work on really daring projects that would give soldiers superhuman abilities. During these trials, a team of researchers encountered a signal coming from intelligent lifeforms from outside of the Earth. The story became known after the man in charge of this top-secret program revealed numerous details to the Russian media. Backing up his claims, Alexey Savin, member of the Natural Sciences Academy, and current lieutenant-general in reserve, has stepped forward and shared his knowledge regarding a group of Russian scientists from the late 80s who could constantly get in touch with representatives of an intelligent species of extraterrestrials.

 

However, the first man to take action by revealing these shocking facts to the press was Vasily Yeremenco, a now-retired major-general who claims to have used special military technology to retrieve alien intelligence from UFOs encounters. He admits that information originating from these otherworldly sources were abundant at that point in time, and it helped the Russians shape the future of their country. In fact, his goals were to suppress any conflicts that would arise between Russia and other alien civilizations. In 1984, the KGB was involved in an ample study documenting unexplained phenomenon near the area of Vladimirovska, a place that hasn’t been randomly picked because most UFO encounters were known to be drawn by dangerous spots where weapons of mass destructions were deployed.

He states that, because of this, the KGB didn’t have to pursue UFOs anymore. They have instead learned how to summon them on their grounds. “We can say that we learned to summon UFOs in Vladimirovska,” Savin said in a news report. “To do this, we dramatically increased the number of military flights and movement of the equipment. If the intensity on our side increased, UFOs appeared with the probability of one hundred percent.”

 

The trials were subdued after about half a year of constant UFO summoning. The Russians concluded that science, at least back then, was unable to make a difference between a UFO and a conventional aircraft. At the best, and because of the constant threat of unfinished war, the otherworldly crafts would be confused with new technology tested by either the US or Japan. Yaremenko discovered that on his own ‘comrades’.“The UFO topic today is ubiquitous,” he said in a press release after his retirement.  “Precisely because of its scandalous nature, serious scientists are not willing to identify their position on this issue. Pilots often see such objects, but they have a veto on this topic, so do astronauts. In confidential conversations they talk about their experiences meeting with UFOs, but they are afraid to speak publicly about this.” In his acceptance, the UFO topic shouldn’t be taken lightly because it represents a matter of global security.

 

He furtherly revealed a classified technique used by the KGB to control the human brain by triggering superhuman abilities through it. Proof of the existence and continuity of this project stands DARPA, with its daring plan to create ‘future soldiers’ using futuristic chips implanted inside the brain. “In the process of research, we came to the conclusion that a human was an energy and information system that receives information from outside. This is precisely why a human can manifest paranormal abilities,” Savin revealed.

 

Besides the military personnel and scientific crew, a team of woman was assembled to carry out some of the crucial tasks. Furthermore, Sevin explained how they had achieved a way to communicate with extraterrestrial civilizations using the functions of the human brain that acted as a radio beacon through space, thus allowing the Russians to receive extraterrestrial messages. “We wanted to make a contact with representatives of other civilizations. And we did it. We had to tune energy-contour of the human brain to a particular wave, like a radio.”

 

 

No chemicals or drugs were used on subjects during testing, and the scientists also came up with a way to tell if individuals were making progress or just hallucinating. What happened next was astounding. Six individuals were privileged to actually touch extraterrestrial beings and one member of the team was even granted access to one of their spaceships.

 

The aliens did give away some information about the structure of their society, but left out important parts like any military details. They supposedly left knowledge of medical procedures that could cure most diseases. Savin told journalists that the human race is so precariously evolved that the aliens would easily compare us to infants. According to him, “our civilization is too young to be of interest to them as a subject for a dialogue. Because we are also a part of the universe, we may harm ourselves and other civilizations with our foolish actions, so they are looking out for us. ”

 

In 1993, politics came in the way, the whole project was abandoned and the team disbanded, but the brain manipulation method remained in use at the Gagarin Academy, where a core team of scientist continued to develop and improve the scheme, and it’s no secret anymore that these techniques kept secret by the Russian military are used by the Americans as well.

 

“Four years ago we tried to repeat the experiment, and we were successful,” Savin said. “Brains and talented people are still present in the defense industry. Why hide something from people? Instead, they need to prepare for new challenges.”

 

If the aliens come in peace and only want to monitor us for our own good, why is Savin considering that we should be taking this matter seriously, more like a possible global threat, and less like our guardian angels?

VIDEO: UFO-jager legt ‘buitenaards moederschip’ vast boven Londen

UFO-jager Andrew Burlington claimt een ‘moederschip’ te hebben vastgelegd boven de Londense wijk Charlton. De 40-jarige man spotte naar eigen zeggen een vloot cilindervormige objecten toen hij een wandeling maakte met zijn neefjes.

Hij zegt bekend te zijn met alle soorten conventionele vliegtuigen en ballonnen. “Als de objecten ballonnen waren geweest, hoe konden ze dan zwakker worden en in het niets verdwijnen?” vroeg hij.

UFO Caught Just 20 Meters Away From Home Over Ireland On Aug 2016, UFO Sighting News.

This UFO was captured at sunrise...and as you probably have heard from me many times...sunset and sunrise are the moments of the day when the cloaks of UFOs are vulnerable due to the angle of the sun, angle of the person to the UFO and the sun and how the light bends around the cloak. Needless to say, this is a fantastic catch of a UFO shooting past the persons window at just the right time. I can tell from the lighting on its right side of the UFO and the right side of the roof that the lighting is untampered with, it has no flaws to be found...because its real. Also on the right side of the UFO are ridges which are slightly blurred, due to its incredible speed as it shot past the window, stopped for a split second, then shot off. Controlled by AI of course in a almost flawless close encounter...except it was caught on iphone.

Eyewitness states: 
At family holiday home in ( very remote) County Donegal,Ireland. I awoke unusually early (6:30am) and instantly alert. Decided to video and photograph the sunrise, something I have never done? Took several pictures and videos before and after object appeared in photo, with no resulting foreign/unexplained objects. Nothing appeared in the sky at any time. My instant reaction was that perhaps my iPhone camera was broken? However couldn't understand how pics immediately before and after photo in question, didn't have a huge black triangle (apparently hovering in sky?) Was in shock for the rest of the day.

 The blur of the UFO indicates that it shot fast in front of the window, stopped for a split second, then shot off at light speed.

Real Life Borg Cube Seen At Earths Sun Sucking Its Energy, Aug 26, 2016, photos, UFO Sighting News.

This cube has been seen a lot over the last 5 years and its frequency of sightings has only increased. The size of the cube can very depending on the distance from the SOHO satellite, but here its appears to be larger than earth. The cube is usually dark, so only a 2D view of it is seen in this photo, but it has been seen in 3D in 25% of the photos over the years. When enlarged more detail can be seen. I believe these cubes are harvesting the energy from our sun and carrying it off to other species that live in our solar system on Jupiter, Saturn and Venus, not to mention the false moons like our own...IO, Phobos and much more.

Fleet of UFOs Pass Over Yellowstone Park On Live Cam! Aug 2016, Video, UFO Sighting News.

This is the most breathtaking and detailed UFO sighting all year long! It was caught when Jeanette Foresta of Youtube was watching the live cam and caught a whole fleet of UFOs passing over Yellowstone on live cam. At least one UFO (first photo above) is a TR3B type UFO but is over 100 meters across! As it moves, it actually rotates, just like disk do. The shape corners are darker...signs of a TR3B when light speed engines are turned off. When it powers up, those three ends will glow like white suns, also the center top and bottom will glow (4 white balls of light at once). 

Behind it is one disk. You can also see the light reflecting off its metal sides and what looks like sever other TR3B 100 meter UFOs further away. 

Jeanette Foresta has recorded Yellowstone and posted it to Youtube many times before over the years, so this is not a fake, she keeps a watchful eye over this area of the park. 

Yellowstone park was allotted 3,468 square miles of land, by the US government, so obviously the US knows about an active alien base or bases in this area, and hoped that stoping construction would limit human activity in the area. 

This is the highlight of my month...maybe my whole year of reporting. I live for moments like this.

50,000 artifacts found in tunnel under Teotihuacan temple

When last we saw the tunnel underneath the Temple of the Feathered Serpent in Teotihuacan, the remote vehicle Tláloc II-TC had forged 65 feet ahead of the point where humans could tread and identified the presence of three chambers with its infrared camera and laser scanner. Wednesday Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) announced that archaeologists have reached a space just before the three chambers and have discovered there a massive cache of sacred objects.

The tunnel was discovered by chance in 2003 after heavy rains opened a hole more than two and a half feet (83 cm) wide in front of the Adosada platform, a 4th century structure inside the Citadel that faces the temple. Fifty feet under the hole, archaeologists found a tunnel almost 400 feet (120 meters) long. Excavations began in 2009, with initial explorations done with ground penetrating radar, laser scanning and two robots.

The technology was only the beginning. The tunnel was expertly sealed by the residents of Tenochtitlan in the second century A.D., filled top to bottom with soil and rocks. The heavy lifting was done by at least 25 workers at any given time, one of whom was Julio Alva, a descendant of 17th century Nahuatl chronicler Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxochitl, himself a direct descendant of Ixtlilxochitl I and Ixtlilxochitl II, rulers of Texococo, and of Cuitláhuac, the penultimate ruler of Tenochtitlan. Alva and his comrades worked tirelessly to remove 970 tons of earth and stone to make way for the remote vehicles and archaeologists to explore the tunnel.

INAH archaeologists have now reached the 103 point where they have encountered a space 13 feet wide and 26 feet long filled with an extraordinary wealth of objects: 50,000 artifacts, including organic remains perfectly preserved in the low oxygen environment. There are more than 4,000 wooden objects, bones and fur from large cats, beetle skeletons, more than 15,000 seeds from different plants and the remains of skin, possibly human, which will be submitted for laboratory analysis.

On the non-organic side are beautifully carved stone sculptures, four of them anthropomorphic figures two feet tall made from greenstone, scores of shells from the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, imported Guatemalan jade, rubber balls, pottery, pyrite disks and a wooden box filled with dozens of elaborately engraved conchs. There are beads, complete necklaces, amber and dozens of obsidian blades and arrow heads.

All of these offerings were interred in the tunnel between 150 and 200 A.D., a period known as the Miccaotli phase when Teotihuacan’s plan was being vigorously altered with previous buildings taken down and new ones erected that would redesign the city. With no written records to go by, archaeological remains are invaluable to the study of Teotihuacan’s culture and history.

This space is 18 feet deep, and given its location close to the end of the tunnel in front of the three chambers, archaeologists think the explosion of artifacts is a strong indicator that there are significant burials in those chambers.

[Archaeologist Sergio] Gomez, who works for Mexico’s National Anthropology and History Institute, said he hoped to find a royal tomb at the end of the tunnel. “Due to the magnitude of the offerings that we’ve found, it can’t be in any other place,” he said.

“We’ve been able to confirm all of the hypotheses we’ve made from the beginning,” he added, saying ongoing excavations could yield more major discoveries next year.

Robot finds 3 rooms under Feathered Serpent temple

Despite the navigation difficulties, Tláloc’s sensors never failed. They revealed that the tunnel has a semicircular vault and is a constant size and shape until it reaches the entryways of three previously unknown chambers. The rooms are blocked by a wall or large stone so Tláloc wasn’t able to go inside, but his scanner detected spaces that are deeper than 16 feet. The scanner can only record a maximum of five meters (approximately 16 feet) in depth. It can detect that there’s more than that to be found only it can’t find out exactly how much until it’s inside the chambers.

They’ll need to clean out the tunnel to make it accessible to puny humans before they can reach the chambers Tláloc has found. The team hopes these rooms, hidden deep underground and deliberately made so unreachable not even highly motivated thieves and archaeologists were able to explore them for almost 2000 years after they were closed, might contain something of inestimable significance to Teotihuacan society, perhaps even the graves of the city’s founders.

From bacteria that can survive inside rocks to microbes that can withstand tremendous heat, cold and radiation, life can take some extreme forms. These enterprising creatures reveal not just the resilience of life on Earth, but the possibilities for life elsewhere in the universe. Here are some especially amazing examples of so-called extremophiles.

1. Not a drop to drink

Some organisms, such as Dunaliella algae discovered in 2010 in a cave in Chile's Atacama desert, can thrive on very little water. Despite living in the driest place on Earth, these mooching microbes grow on top of spiderwebs to capitalize on dew – the meager amounts of air moisture that condense on the webs in the mornings.

2. Hot stuff

So-called hyperthermophiles are species that thrive in extremely hot environments. TheAquifex genus of bacteria, for example, has been found living in hot springs in Yellowstone National Park, where temperatures can reach 205 degrees Fahrenheit (96 degrees Celsius).

3. Frugal living

One extreme species, the Thermococcus microbe, can survive on so little energy that until now the chemical reaction it uses wasn't thought able to sustain life. These organisms were found living near deep-sea hydrothermal vents where super-hot water seeps out of the Earth's crust near Papua New Guinea. In addition to their thrifty use of energy, the microbes can survive in extreme temperatures too scorching for most creatures.

4. Pass the salt

Talk about high sodium! Salt-tolerant "halophilic" microorganisms can withstand salt concentrations that would wither most life. One example is the bacteria Halobacterium halobium, which has evolved to live in environments with 10 times more salt than seawater, such as the salty lakebed of California's Owens Lake.

5. Brrr, it's cold in here

Some microbes, called psychrophiles, found in polar ice, glaciers and deep ocean waters can withstand frigid temperatures as low as 5 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 15 degrees Celsius). They consist mostly of bacteria, fungi and algae, and contain enzymes that are adapted to function at low temperatures. They have been found, for example, in the frozen Arctic and Antarctic Oceans and beneath sheets of ice in Siberia.

6. Radiation proof

Other extreme species prove their mettle by withstanding intense amounts of radiation. For example, the Deinococcus radiodurans bacterium can survive a 15,000 gray dose of radiation, where 10 grays would kill a human and it takes over 1,000 grays to kill a cockroach. This species, in fact, is exemplary in many ways, encompassing also the ability to survive cold, dehydration, vacuum and acid. The Guinness Book of World Records lists D. radiodurans as the world's toughest bacterium.

7. Between a rock and a hard place

Endoliths are organisms that live inside rocks or other spots thought impermeable to life, such as in crevices of animal shells or the pores between grains of minerals. These species have been found over 2 miles (3 km) below the Earth's surface, and may live even deeper. Water is scarce at these depths, but some studies suggest they feed on surrounding iron, potassium, or sulfur. While their choice of abode presents some limitations, it also provides protection from harsh winds and radiation from the sun.

8. No oxygen

This newfound creature, a loriciferan identified as an undescribed species of the genus Spinoloricus. The creature has specialized organelles so that it can survive without oxygen. Scale bar is 50 microns.

De Zuid-Afrikaanse meteorologe Elizabeth Klarer (1910-1994) claimde tussen 1954 en 1963 in contact te hebben gestaan met buitenaardse wezens van Alpha Centauri (Alien Intervention, 1998, pp. 156-7). Op 7-jarige leeftijd zou ze samen met haar oudere zus bij de boerderij van haar ouders in KwaZoeloe-Natal haar eerste ontmoeting hebben gehad.

Klarer zei dat ze zag hoe een meteoor werd onderschept door een zilverkleurige schijf. Ze verhuisde daarna naar Italië om kunst en muziek te studeren en studeerde vervolgens meteorologie aan Cambridge.

In de jaren vijftig herinnerde Klarer, die inmiddels voor de Luchtmacht Inlichtingendienst werkte, zich naar eigen zeggen dat ze in haar jeugd af en toe telepathische boodschappen ontving van een vriendelijke alien die Akon werd genoemd. Op 17 juli 1955 maakte ze vanaf de Drakensbergen foto’s van zijn schip (UFOs, PSI, and Spiritual Evolution, 2005).

Op 7 april 1956 landde Akon met zijn verkenningsschip, waarna Klarer werd meegenomen naar een moederschip dat in een baan om de aarde draaide. In 1957 werd ze meegenomen naar de thuisplaneet van Akon. De planeet, Meton geheten, bevindt zich in het Alpha Centauri-stelsel.

Klarer raakte zwanger van Akon, waarna ze een zoon ter wereld bracht. De zoon, Ayling, bleef op Meton terwijl Klarer weer naar de aarde werd gebracht. Dit hele proces – de reis, de zwangerschap, de geboorte en de terugreis – zou slechts vier maanden in beslag hebben genomen.

In 1980 publiceerde Klarer haar boek Beyond the Light Barrier, waarin ze uitvoerig over haar buitenaardse avonturen spreekt. Ze stierf op 84-jarige leeftijd aan borstkanker, waardoor ze haar tweede boek The Gravity File niet kon afmaken. Het boek zou vooral gaan over de zwaartekrachtaandrijving van Akons schip.

Gigantische menselijke voetafdruk ontdekt in China

In de zuidwestelijke Chinese provincie Guizhou zijn een tweetal uitzonderlijk grote gefossiliseerde menselijke voetafdrukken gevonden.

Op 24 augustus stuitte een groep fotografen op de enorme menselijke voetafdrukken in het dorp Pingyan, zo melden lokale media. Eén van de voetafdrukken, die mogelijk uit de oudheid stamt, is gemaakt door een linkervoet die 57 centimeter lang en 20 centimeter breed is.

Dergelijke ontdekkingen stellen wetenschappers voor een raadsel. In 1912 werd door een jager genaamd Stoffel Coetzee een enorme voetafdruk gevonden in het Zuid-Afrikaanse Mpuluzi.

Volgens Michael Tellinger, die in 2012 een filmpje over de voetafdruk maakte, staat de afdruk bij de lokale bevolking bekend als de ‘Voetafdruk van God’. De afdruk is 1,2 meter lang en zou tot wel 200 miljoen jaar oud kunnen zijn.

In 1987 werd door paleontoloog Jerry MacDonald een 290 miljoen jaar oude voetafdruk ontdekt in New Mexico. Op de Chinese nieuwssite Sina zijn meer foto’s te bekijken van de afdruk in Guizhou.

Zitten aliens achter de meest mysterieuze ster in het universum?

KIC 8462852 wordt ook wel de meest mysterieuze ster in het universum genoemd. In veel opzichten is het een gewone ster, maar de helderheidsvariaties van Tabby’s ster zijn zo vreemd en onverklaarbaar dat sommigen zich afvragen of ze worden veroorzaakt door aliens.

Af en toe schuift er een onbekend object voor de ster langs dat ongeveer 1000 keer groter is dan de aarde. Astronomen hebben geen idee wat het is. Ze denken aan een stofwolk, een planetoïdengordel of een zwerm kometen. Een andere mogelijkheid is dat het object rond KIC 8462852 is gebouwd door een intelligent buitenaards ras.

Dr. Tabetha Boyajian

Het klinkt vergezocht, maar zelfs dr. Tabetha Boyajian van de Louisiana State University, naar wie de ster is vernoemd, zegt dat het een hypothese is die niet zomaar kan worden uitgesloten. “Deze ster is anders dan andere astronomische objecten die we kennen,” vertelde ze aan de Huffington Post. “Sterren doen dit niet zomaar.”

Volgens Boyajian moeten we out of the box denken. In 1960 publiceerde theoretisch natuurkundige Freeman Dyson een paper in vakblad Science over een grootschalige structuur gebouwd door een hoogontwikkelde beschaving om energie af te tappen van zijn ster. Hij noemde dit een Dysonbol.

Little green men

De helderheidsdipjes werden in 2011 voor het eerst waargenomen. Het jaar erop werd de ster plotseling 15 procent zwakker. Tabby’s ster wordt inmiddels ook wel LGM2 genoemd. In de jaren zestig werd een vreemd signaal ontdekt waarvan in eerste instantie werd gedacht dat het mogelijk afkomstig was van ‘little green men’ (kleine groene mannetjes). Om die reden kreeg het object de naam LGM1.

Boyajian wil de ster ‘op heterdaad betrappen’ om te kijken wat er precies gebeurt. Het probleem is dat ze geen idee heeft wanneer de volgende dip zal plaatsvinden. Maandag deelde ze de eerste gegevens, waaruit blijkt dat er op dit moment niets spannends gebeurt bij de ster. Maar wat niet is kan nog komen natuurlijk.

August 27, 1956, near McCleod, Alberta, Canada. The witnesses were two Royal Canadian Air Force pilots who were flying in a formation of four F86 Sabre jet aircraft. The planes were flying due west over the Canadian Rockies at 36,000 feet about one hour before sunset. One of the pilots saw a "bright light which was sharply defined and disk-shaped," that resembled "a shiny silver dollar sitting horizontal," situated below the planes but above a thick layer of clouds. It appeared to be considerably brighter than sunlight reflecting off the clouds. The duration of the sighting was estimated to be between 45 seconds and 3 minutes. The first pilot to notice the object reported the observation to the flight leader and then took a photograph on a Kodachrome color slide. This case and this photograph were subsequently analyzed by Dr. Bruce Maccabee (Maccabee, 1996). Maccabee has presented an argument against the propositions that the phenomenon is due either to reflection of sunlight by the clouds or to lightning. From the available data, Maccabee estimates the luminosity of the object (the power output within the spectral range of the film) to be many megawatts. Muhammad Ali Once Revealed His Several UFO Sightings With UFO Expert Timothy Green Beckley

The legend in the sport of boxing, Muhammad Ali, was a UFO believer who claimed to have had encounters with the mysterious visitors from other planets.

Author and UFO expert Timothy Green Beckley had many alien encounters with the boxing icon up to the early 1990s.

Ali even said that he had witnessed a strange activity involving massive UFO mothership and went on to say that extraterrestrial visitations were “of tremendous importance to the whole world.”

In a tribute to the legendary boxer and civil rights activist, Mr Beckley explored Ali’s thoughts on UFOs. In his book “Amazing Flying Saucer Experiences of Celebrities, Rock Stars and the Rich and Famous,” published in 2015, Mr Beckley said that of all the people who talked about UFOs and extraterrestrial theories, no one more knowledgeable than the heavyweight boxing champ Muhammad Ali.

Mr Beckley revealed that he had four meetings with Ali when they discussed alien topics. The first one happened in the boxer’s home in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, which the author described it as more like a Holiday Inn hotel than somebody’s residence.

In his book, he wrote that the knockout artist had been working out on previous mornings in the park and had made the headlines when he claimed that he had seen two UFOs moving over New York City in the park and his home.

Ali apparently told him he often look up before dawn while running and during that time, he saw the first bright UFO hovering as if hanging by an invisible thread.

The second UFO was reportedly spotted with a glowing red trail behind. Ali then called the attention of his trainer, and they watched the two mysterious aerial objects, which moved slowly across the sky for about 15 minutes. The best Ali could describe the incredible event was just round and big.

Ali further told the author that he found out later there were other UFO sighting reports on the same night, including one from a pilot who was about to land at Newark Airport.

Ali also revealed to Beckley that he had seen several UFOs many times before, a total of 16 sightings to the date of their conversations.

When the author was about to bid goodbye, Ali waved him over and said he would not mind talking further.

The author indicated in his book Ali claimed that UFOs “had been watching him” for some time. Ali reportedly said to him that he had seen UFOs playing tag between the stars many times in the early morning hours.

On the second meeting, he showed a video of UFOs to Ali, and the boxing champion pointed out characteristics of flying saucers in the video like the ones similar to what he observed in real life.

During their third meeting, Mr Beckley took with him Israeli psychic Uri Geller to Ali’s training camp in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania at Dear Lake. However, Ali apparently returned to the UFO topics, which he appeared to be more comfortable than talking about psychic phenomena.

The author had one final formal meeting with Ali about UFOs where the legend had said that he always speak his mind because he discovered that many other people have had similar sightings. Ali was hoping that others will listen in the future as he was convinced UFOs are critical to the entire world.

Aliens and UFOs are back at the center stage of the media recently after the release of Netflix’s Stranger Things, as well as The X-Files revival. Several celebrities have come forward to share their UFO encounters, including William Shatner, Victoria Beckham, and John Lennon. Shatner later admitted to lying about it, though.

On August 23, Tuesday, Girl Meets World actress and teen feminist personality Rowan Blanchard can be added to the list of celebrities who have infamously claimed to have seen UFOs over the years. The 14-year-old Disney star shared her visit in New York City with a picture of an unusual object in the sky. The UFO can be seen in the upper right-hand corner of the photo.

Blanchard captioned the picture in her Instagram post that the odd aerial thing wasn’t there physically and just appearing in the photograph.

Typically, with the advancement of trick photography, this would be dismissed as a hoax or just unusual lighting. However, a tiny historical factoid could bring weight to the space UFO or alien theory on this picture. On exact the same day, 42 years ago, John Lennon spotted a UFO in NYC.  It was Blanchard’s friend and makeup artist Amy Strozzi who did some research and learned of the ET connection.

Dark Disc UFO Discovered Flying Over Lunar Surface Through the Moon Live Steam

A mysterious disc-like dark UFO was caught on video passing the moon.  The strange event was captured on a footage of the Moon Live Stream. UFO investigators got excited about the sighting as it wasn’t the first time it happened.

Skeptics suggest that these sort of odd-looking objects are just satellites placed into orbit by space agencies. Others point out that they could be weather balloons that look closer to the moon on the live stream than their actual distance.

Some UFO enthusiasts consider sightings like these as luck and just captured on live stream by chance. They say that the UFO isn’t a satellite, which typically travel in a straight line. The UFO in question flies in the zig-zag direction as it moves forward. They also rule out balloon as a possible reason because it doesn’t zig zag as it travels.

YouTube username SpaceImaging Keith noticed the UFO on the live stream and posted it to the video sharing site. He believes that it could be an intelligently maneuvered alien spacecraft or some other top secret Earth-based project.

Keith also claimed to have found other dark disks traveling to the moon many times before this latest one. The most memorable one for him was a UFO that measured over five miles across, which was discovered by an amateur astronomer from Italy while cleaning his telescope’s optics.

The latest black object was noticed on the live stream on August 10 of this year.

A viral video hit the internet last week  in which an alien imparts its wisdom to the the interviewer. This video was supposedly recorded by members of the official government-funded project, Blue Book. The wisdom of said alien included claims that it was an “evolutionary descendant” of humans, from our future. It can be seen in its entirety below.

UFO researcher, Isaac Koi, was quick to analyze the video and determine that it was most definitely a hoax. Koi was able to trace the video back to its original uploader, and that’s when it became clear that this was nothing more than a pet project of a digital effects artist. In an article written by Koi, he states that this was all done by:

“… Canadian visual effects artists Aristomenis Tsirbas (“Meni Tsirbas”) of MeniThings Productions. He has been a digital artist on ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’, ‘Star Trek: Voyager’, ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’”

This brings up one of the major issues plaguing the UFO field more and more each day, and that is digital effects. Everyone likes a good alien invasion movie, so why not hoax a video rack up millions of hits online, and then make this your calling card to Hollywood. If people find your work that convincing, then you may surely be on your way to a new job.

But this deceptive ambition by digital effects artists unfortunately comes at the cost of true believers often stating that these clearly hoaxed videos are “The One”. This will be the video to prove it all to the skeptics. The problem is, the skeptics are always one step ahead, and make those out there consuming these videos to cower in the corner with their tin-foil hats. Perhaps a bit of due diligence and common sense could help the field of Ufology save face. As Koi points out:

“I find it somewhat bemusing that anyone could have spent five minutes watching the video but not bother spending one minute looking into the uploader of the video, which would easily reveal these facts. I’m regularly bemused by the conduct of some people in ufology. So many things within ufology are the basis of speculation when a little bit of work reveals relevant facts. This applies to government documents in various archives as much as it does to “UFO” videos on Youtube.”

While this video is well done, entertaining, and scary as hell, it proves once more that the true work is being done by people like Koi and many others (Roswell Slides Team anyone?) who are able to stamp these hoaxes down into the ashes as soon as they see a flame starting.

While we strive for truth here at Rogue Planet, we also need to point out the hoaxes as quickly as possible. And we hope we can be a source where you find some of the most compelling and credible information about UFOs out there. With the work of people like Isaac Koi, we have no doubt that we can do that with greater ease.

The PowerEgg is a UFO-like drone that looks straight out of Area 51

We’ve all heard the rumors about Area 51, the secretive military base in the Nevada desert, where captured alien craft and technology is supposedly hidden away. If it’s true, we wouldn’t be shocked to find out the PowerVision team had enjoyed a tour, and come away with the inspiration for the PowerEgg — an amazing (and very odd-looking) new drone. Sadly, it’s probably not the case (or founder Wally Zheng his hiding something). Instead, he claims inspiration for the drone came from the work of Leonardo da Vinci, but that could just be another government cover-up.
The fact that the PowerEgg will appeal to beginners doesn’t necessarily mean the tech inside is basic.

The PowerEgg’s design serves a purpose: to make the joy of flying drones more accessible for everyone — a philosophy that manifests itself in everything from the drone’s camera operation to the flight controllers. Before we get to that, you need to know the coolest part. While the rotor assemblies are extended from the egg manually, the landing gear is retracted and extended automatically, so when the PowerEgg is flying around, those legs are tucked up in the body. If that’s not straight out of a 1950s flying saucer movie, we don’t know what is.

PowerVision has been making drones for several years at this point, but this is its first model for enthusiasts, with an emphasis on the first-time owner. The egg-shaped design is friendly, attractive, and easy to carry around. It’s less than a foot tall, and despite weighing nearly 4.5 pounds, it feels like a lot less when cradling the PowerEgg in your arms. The arms pull out from the sides and click into place, and the rotors are spread by hand. A trigger assembly under each arm primes them for folding back inside the body.

Folded up, the PowerEgg is easy to transport, and there’s no need to start disassembling it or risking damage by not bothering because it’s a pain. Order the PowerEgg early enough, and you’ll get a custom backpack to carry it around in too. A plinth stops the PowerEgg from rolling away, and placed on a table it could pass for a piece of modern art, it looks so sleek.

The battery is hidden under the top of the egg, while the base is removed before flight, revealing the 360 degree camera. The 1/2.3-inch sensor shoots 4K video at 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, and it has a 95-degree field of view. It’s mounted on a gimbal under the egg, and can be controlled in the app. Here’s where the user-friendliness starts to come in. Due to the unusual shape and design of the drone, first-time drone fliers won’t have to work out direction of flight, or quickly learn complex maneuvers to capture great footage.

Two controllers are included in the drone package, a regular two-handed, dual-stick controller with a mount for your smartphone, plus another called the PowerEgg Maestro. Think of it like a Nintendo Wiimote, and you’re got the concept. The motion-sensing controller is held in one hand, has a single button for takeoff and landing, and you simply move the remote in the direction you want the drone to fly. Like the design of the PowerEgg itself, this is a far more accessible, user-friendly control system for drone newcomers to pick up.

However, the fact that the PowerEgg will appeal to beginners doesn’t necessarily mean the tech inside is basic. The 6,400mAh replaceable battery will return about 23 minutes of flight time, and the software contains many different automated modes, including Follow Me, Selfie Mode, and a Waypoint tracker. It’ll zoom off to a distance of 3.1 miles (allegedly), operate in GPS-free zones, indoors, and has a return-to-home setting in case it gets lost.

We had a brief demonstration of the PowerEgg, where the drone took off, retracted the undercarriage, hovered, and landed again inside a large room. Sadly, we will have to wait to try the drone out for ourselves, but did note the PowerEgg wasn’t too noisy, and appeared very smooth and stable during its flight.

World’s Most Powerful Rocket Set For Testing In 2017

NASA is planning the most powerful rocket engine ever called the Space Launch System (SLS). It will be the largest and most powerful engine ever built and is targeted for testing in 2017. At a cost of over $18 billion this new system sounds expensive but includes the cost the first three flights. SLS will use technology from the Space Shuttle program including the main engines and the solid rocket motors.

One of the critical innovations of the new SLS design is to go back to a vertical design where components of the rocket are vertically integrated, making it simpler than the Space Shuttle which carried the shuttle “piggyback”.

The SLS is currently designed to have three engines but this number could grow to five according to NASA. The SLS will be capable of lifting 70 metric tons or 10% more thrust than Saturn V. Expansion of the advanced boosters will provide lifting capacity up to 130 metric tons or 20% more thrust than Saturn V.

The Saturn V was 363 feet tall and the SLS will be about 40 feet taller. The Saturn V was used by NASA’s Apollo and Skylab programs from 1967 to 1973 and was the only rocket that has taken humans out of low Earth orbit and to the moon. Following is a take-off animation of the SLS!

SLS will look a bit like Saturn V and the Space Shuttle but advancements in manufacturing will make SLS a much more efficient system with advanced nozzle materials and newer and greener technologies. NASA expects the system to be more reliable and easier to operate than the Space Shuttle.

SLS Comparison with SpaceX Falcon System

SLS appears to be a superior vehicle in terms of maximum capacity but the SLS price tag is very high. Some engineers have estimated that the SpaceX Falcon may be able to have 10+ flights for the cost of a single SLS launch. Additionally the SLS’s more advanced performance capabilities may not be needed; it may be cheaper to use a smaller lift vehicles.

Moon Express Gets Permission to Land on the Moon

So far, a moon landing has been accomplished only by three nations. The United States’ Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon, on July 20, 1969.

Subsequently, only two counties successfully landed spacecraft on the moon: Russia and China. But no private company has ever been given permission for a moon landing.

But now, a US company has been given government permission by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to land on the moon.

The Florida-based company, “Moon Express,” plans to send a small unmanned lander called MX-1. The company hopes to send the robotic spacecraft to the moon next year. The robotic lander will be sent to the moon on the top of a rocket that they are purchasing from space startup Rocketlab.

Naveen Jain, Co-founder and Chairman of the Moon Express, says, “Only three super powers have ever landed on any planet—we will become the fourth superpower.”

Moon Express CEO Bob Richards referred to the recent discovery of water on the moon by the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft with ISRO’s Moon Impact Probe (MIP) and NASA’s Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) as being highly important.

Mission can win Google Lunar X-Prize of $20 million

Moon Express can win the prize if MX-1 successfully lands on the moon, takes off again, lands more than 1,500 feet away from its earlier position and sends high-definition video and images back to Earth.

But winning the prize is not the only point; the bigger plan is to discover valuable natural materials that can be used on Earth.

The total estimated cost of the mission is about $55 million. Moon Express has already raised $30 million.

Deze reusachtige piramide zit verborgen in een berg

De Grote Piramide van Gizeh valt in het niet bij de piramide van Cholula in Mexico. Toch zagen de Spaanse indringers hem over het hoofd.

Toen Hernan Cortes en zijn Spaanse leger bijna 500 jaar geleden Cholula binnenmarcheerden, werden ze begroet door een vreedzaam volk dat piramides bouwde in plaats van grote opslagplaatsen vol wapens. Binnen een dag werd 10 procent van de lokale bevolking uitgemoord en de piramides werden in brand gestoken.

Volgens een legende werd één piramide verborgen. Het bouwwerk werd honderden jaren aangezien voor een berg, tot de lokale bevolking in 1910 begon met de bouw van een psychiatrisch ziekenhuis. Toen stuitte men op het grootste bouwwerk ooit gemaakt.

Matroesjka’s

Tlachihualtepetl, oftewel de Grote Piramide van Cholula, is 66 meter hoog en 450 meter breed. De Grote Piramide van Gizeh valt bij dit kolossale bouwwerk in het niet, zo bericht de BBC.

De Spanjaarden bleven in Cholula en stampten overal kerken uit de grond. Toen ze de Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remediosa wilden bouwen op wat zij zagen als een grote heuvel, plaatsten ze in werkelijkheid een religieus monument bovenop een piramide.

Een uitgegraven deel van de piramide

De Grote Piramide van Cholula is niet zomaar een piramide. Het zijn in totaal zes piramides die als een soort matroesjka’s in elkaar passen. Gedacht wordt dat de oorspronkelijke piramide rond 300 voor Christus werd gebouwd en dat latere beschavingen de overige vijf piramides hebben gebouwd.

Reus

Vanwege de kerk, die aangeduid is als koloniaal monument, is het niet mogelijk om de piramide in zijn geheel te onderzoeken en te herstellen. In de piramide hebben archeologen inmiddels zo’n acht kilometer aan tunnels uitgegraven.

Ondanks de enorme omvang van de piramide is er maar heel weinig over bekend. Volgens een mythe is de piramide gebouwd door een reus. De Azteken stelden dat de bouw te danken was aan Xelhua, één van de zeven reuzen in de Azteekse mythologie.

Bijna 500 jaar na de koloniale overheersing heeft Cholula te maken met een nieuwe invasie: toeristen.

UFO Sighting Over Small Arizona City On Aug 20, 2016, Video, UFO Sighting News.

This is awesome...why? Because its an overcast day with massively thick and dark clouds in the sky. What that means is that nothing could shine bright enough to break through those clouds...no stars, no night sky, no moon. So any argument that this is a star is a waste of breath. This glowing object is checking out the neighborhood and could be interested in the lighting that comes from such clouds. These clouds build up a special kind of lighting rare around the world...called colored lighting. It could contain energy that the UFO or alien drone needs to continue its research mission. You often see lighting in these clouds in Arizona...without even a drop of rain to be had...I use to live in Bullhead city, Arizona and Needles, California for a few years, where I often saw the rainbow color lighting...loved it.

Just had a UFO sighting in Buckeye, Arizona August 20th, 2014 at 7:25 pm. Have no idea what I just witnessed. Maybe it's a UFO or maybe just a drone, nevertheless it was kinda strange to see this hovering over our neighborhood in the middle of a thunderstorm. The sound of my AC unit in the background possibly drowned out any sound the object was making. Please understand, I'm not saying this is an alien spacecraft, I'm just saying that I have no idea what this object is and the fact that it was flying makes this an "Unidentified Flying Object"

Hollywood Rowan Blanchard Catches UFO Over New York City, Aug 23, 2016, UFO Sighting New

Today own Instagram Hollywood star Rowan Blanchard posted a photo of a UFO that has he fans a buzz. While visiting in New York City, she chanced to take a photo during a beautiful sunset, and accidnetly captured a UFO disk that is 90% cloaked. Remember what I said about sunset being the most common time for UFOs to be seen? Its due to the bending of the light, the observer (us) and the angle of the sun. 

She stated, "Say what u will but that thing was just appearing in the photo and wasn't physically there ..... 👽."  This is a fantastic catch and I am so glad she shared it with us all. This is 100% evidence that aliens do watch over New York City with enthusiasm.

Vlakbij de meest nabije ster is een levensvatbare aarde-achtige planeet ontdekt. Dat meldt het ESO, de Europese Zuidelijke Sterrenwacht. Die planeet kan de dichtste woonplaats van leven buiten ons zonnestelsel zijn.

De planeet draait in een baan om Proxima Centauri, de dichtste ster buiten ons zonnestelsel. Die bevindt zich zo’n vier lichtjaar van de aarde, omgerekend een goeie veertig biljoen kilometer. De planeet, die de naam Proxima b kreeg, is ongeveer 1.3 keer zo groot als onze aarde. Ze draait op een afstand van ongeveer zeven miljoen kilometer rond de koele moederster, amper vijf procent van de afstand tussen de aarde en de zon. Maar Proxima Centauri is een rode dwergster en een stuk zwakker dan onze ster, waardoor de planeet zich toch in een levensvatbare zone bevindt.

Het lijkt erop dat vloeibaar water alleen op het oppervlak aanwezig kan zijn in de zonnigste gebieden. De draaiing van planeet Proxima b, de sterke straling van de ster en de vormingsgeschiedenis van de planeet zorgen ervoor dat het klimaat nogal verschilt van dat op aarde en dat het onwaarschijnlijk is dat er op Proxima b seizoenen voorkomen. Volgens de ESO zal Proxima b "een belangrijk doelwit zijn in de jacht naar het bewijs van leven elders in het heelal.”

Nearly 8000 Strange Blue Lakes Have Appeared in Antarctica

Researchers studying East Antarctica have observed nearly 8,000 dazzling, blue lakes appeared on the Langhovde Glacier between 2000 and 2013. Not just a sign of global warming, these so-called supraglacial lakes can cause an ice sheet to collapse.

SUPRAGLACIAL LAKES

Oftentimes, the sight of spectacularly blue water is enough to make anyone happy. Unfortunately, not in this case. 

Scientists studying East Antarctica, the largest ice mass on Earth, have discovered blue lakes sprouting like summer blooms on the Langhovde Glacier, an outlet glacier located at the Soya Coast.

From 2000 through 2013, scientists have been using satellite imagery to study East Antarctica’s Dronning Maud Land. And in a new study published in the Geophysical Research Letters, researchers state they’ve observed close to 8,000 lakes appearing on the surface of glaciers across the region.

Since the water is found on top of the glaciers, they are distinguished as “supraglacial.” Essentially, they are formed when the increasingly warm summer air heats the surface of an ice sheet.

These lakes were first seen spreading across Greenland and serve as beautiful, yet ominous, evidence of global climate change.

COLLAPSING ICE SHELVES

One of the results of the lakes’ formation is the drainage from the lake traveling and weakening the more vulnerable parts of the glacier. Researchers believe this drainage caused the shattering of the Larsen B ice shelf on the warmer Antarctic Peninsula in 2002, among possible other events.

This occurring now in East Antarctica is a signal of the further consequences of rising temperatures. “That’s the part of the continent where people have for quite a long time assumed that it’s relatively stable, there’s not a huge amount of change, it’s very, very cold, and so it’s only very recently that the first supraglacial lakes, on top of the ice, were identified,”Stewart Jamieson, one of the study authors and a glaciologist at UK’s Durham University, toldThe Washington Post.

Scientists are quite concerned about the long term consequences of increased melting. In an email to Gizmodo, lead study author Emily Langley stressed the importance of monitoring “these in the future to see how they evolve with surface air temperature changes.”

China Finally Unveiled The Rover They’re Sending to Mars in 2020

Aiming to become a global space giant, China unveils some information on its first mission to Mars in 2020—with the goal of finding ice and water on the Red Planet.

Mankind’s insatiable hunger for knowledge has sparked another mission to find out whether Mars was ever occupied by living organisms.

Stepping back onto the space exploration scene, China is giving us a computer-generated glimpse of the design for its space probe and rover, which will be used in its first ever Mars mission in 2020. The goal: find ice and water on the Red Planet.

According to Reuters, the mission will initially go into orbit around Mars before deploying a lander that will touch down in the low latitudes of Mars’ northern hemisphere, where the rover will explore the surface.

Carrying a number of instruments ranging from cameras to a ground-penetrating radar, the lander’s six-wheeled rover will be the one to roam the Red Planet.

Although China would be the fifth country to orbit Mars, President Xi Jinping’s unyielding resolve to become a global space giant emerged in the undertaking of this endeavor.

“Becoming an aerospace power has always been a dream we’ve been striving for,” he said.

Jamais on n’avait découvert d’exoplanète aussi proche de nous. La confirmation, mardi dans Nature, de la découverte de Proxima B, dans l’orbite de l’étoile Proxima du Centaure, se double d’une jolie surprise : La planète tourne autour de son étoile à une distance qui rend possible la présence d’eau liquide et de vie à sa surface.

Proxima du Centaure est bien connue des chercheurs qui traquent les planètes situées en dehors du système solaire, car c’est la plus proche de notre soleil. L’astrophysicien belge Michael Gillon, de l’Université de Liège, co-découvreur de plusieurs exoplanètes « potentiellement habitables », analyse l’importance de cette découverte.

On a découvert plus de 3.000 planètes en dehors du système solaire, depuis la première en 1995. Pourquoi ne découvre-t-on que maintenant celle qui tourne autour de Proxima du Centaure ?

Parce que le système de Proxima du Centaure n’est pas facile à examiner. L’étoile est proche, mais beaucoup moins brillante que le soleil (670 fois moins), elle pèse 10 % de son poids et émet essentiellement de la lumière infrarouge. D’ailleurs, de la Terre on ne la voit pas à l’œil nu, il faut une lunette pour l’observer…

Dans mon équipe nous avons déjà essayé de scruter ce système par la méthode du « transit » (on guette la baisse de luminosité qui résulte du passage d’une planète devant l’étoile), sans rien détecter. Là, ils ont pu utiliser une autre méthode, gravitationnelle (on détecte indirectement les mouvements de la planète), avec une quantité de données très importante.

Cette planète, Proxima B, est située à une distance de 4,2 années-lumière, soit quarante mille milliards de kilomètres. Que change cette découverte ?

C’est très enthousiasmant qu’une étoile si proche de nous dispose d’une planète potentiellement habitable. Et il est possible qu’avec certains instruments on soit assez rapidement capables d’observer directement l’image de cette planète, et de détecter une atmosphère, si elle en a une.

La prochaine étape, c’est la découverte de vie extraterrestre. Comment procède-t-on ?

On cherche des signes de cette vie en guettant, par exemple dans la lumière émise par la planète, des traces de molécules caractéristiques de la vie. Ce sont des « biomarqueurs ». Cela peut-être de l’oxygène en grande quantité, si on prouve qu’aucun autre phénomène n’a pu le produire. Avec les nouveaux instruments qui sont en train d’être mis en place, je pense que l’on peut espérer une telle découverte d’ici une dizaine d’années.
