For just about as long as the UFO phenomena has been around there has been the complimentary anomaly known as the notorious Men in Black. These phantom figures have long been reported to threaten and stalk certain eyewitnesses or those with insider knowledge of UFOs, usually warning them away from sharing what they have seen or know and always freaking them out. Reported from around the world, the Men in Black are typically almost universally described as being individuals, usually male, dressed in black suits or trench coats, often with sunglasses on even at night, mostly at least a bit odd-looking, and always displaying extremely bizarre behavior and mannerisms, and this is a phenomenon which my fellow Mysterious Contributor Nick Redfern has covered in far more detail than I intend to go into here. However, what has always intrigued me are the times when these frightening and creepy specters have actually been allegedly photographed or even filmed, and there are actually a few cases where this has allegedly happened. This is what I plan to delve into here, so let’s take a look.
Perhaps the earliest and best known purported image of a Man in Black comes from 1968, in Jersey City, in the United States, where a UFO researcher named Jack Robinson lived with his wife, Mary. The couple began to notice something strange going on when they would come home to find that their house seemed to have been searched or rummaged through, ransacked even, especially their files of the UFO phenomena, although there was never any sign of forced entry or burglary. Shortly after this, Mary claimed that she began to notice a peculiar stranger dressed all in black and wearing sunglasses lurking and loitering about the area of their apartment, who could sometimes be seen staring up at their window. This was all spooky to be sure, and the creeped out couple told a friend of theirs, Tim Green Beckley, about what was happening. My esteemed colleague Nick Redfern, an expert on the MIB phenomenon and author of numerous books on the matter including The Real Men in Black, talked about this stranger and what happened next in an interview with New Dawn Magazine, saying:
Mary said he had an unsettling look on his face, kind of unemotional and zombie-like. Mary happened to mention this to Tim and Jim, and because the guy appeared three days in a row, they decided to drive over early one morning and see if they could see the Man in Black for themselves. Sure enough, he was there, staring ahead, with the black sunglasses, long black coat, and enigmatic stare.
Beckley allegedly came by one day when the enigmatic man was prowling about and managed to capture a photograph of him before he sauntered off and was gone. Although it is inconclusive to say the least, the resulting photograph is believed to be one of the first and clearest photos of one of the alleged Men in Black. What does this picture show? Is this really one of the Men in Black or just a guy in black clothes hanging out on the street? It is hard to say, and the authenticity of the photograph has been much discussed in UFO circles.
The alleged photo of the Man in Black
Perhaps even more impressive than this is a purported piece of video footage that is said to show two of the Men in Black, which surfaced in April of 2012 from the Aerial Phenomena Investigations Team. The incident allegedly began at a hotel in Canada, when the hotel manager was approached by one of his bellboys, who seemed to be rather unsettled about something and wanted to talk in private. He then claimed that two mysterious men dressed in black suits and trench coats had approached him, and he told the manager:
Something really weird happened here yesterday, and you weren’t here. There were a couple of guys looking for you. Well, this is really hard for me to say, but there were a couple of really strange looking men that were here, and they kind of freaked everybody out, and they were asking questions about you. And I said, “I’m sorry, he’s actually not working today.”
The bizarre strangers were described as being very tall, and of exactly the same height, with very pale skin and generally looking “odd.” It was also noted that they appeared to have the same face, as if they were twins. The bellman claimed that the two strangers had not seemed to really believe that the manager wasn’t in at the time, and proceeded to look around the premises and question other employees, with one other hotel staff member who was approached saying of them:
They asked some questions about you, and they said strange things that I didn’t understand, and they were talking about governments and conspiracies, and none of it made any sense to me, but they were very, very scary. They had no facial hair, none. They had no eyebrows, no eyelashes, nothing. Their hair looked like they had a wig on, like it was attached to their hat, like it wasn’t even real. And the scariest thing, their eyes were so big, and so blue, that they almost hypnotized me a little bit. These men, they didn’t blink. Not once did I see them blink.
The hotel manager was a bit disturbed to hear all of this, but was still skeptical about the whole thing. He claims that he then went through the security footage to check it out and found exactly what had been described, with two strange men dressed in black entering the hotel through the front doors. Is footage this the real deal? If it is not a hoax, then who were these mysterious gentlemen and what did they want? Were these really the legendary Men in Black? We will probably never know.
A still from the footage at the hotel allegedly showing the Men in Black
Even more recent is a case of supposed photographic evidence of the Men in Black that came out in 2014, according to a UFOGrid report. In the report, two witnesses came forward to tell their tale of being harassed by the Men in Black in New Orleans, Louisiana. One of the witnesses was identified by the alias Jack Smith, now in his 50s, who claims that he had been relentlessly stalked by a pair of the mysterious entities wearing identical black suits his whole life, which he surmised was due to encounters he had had with the “grey” aliens back in his youth. He says that ever since, he had been menaced by the Men in Black for decades, saying:
They have let me know that I could be found where ever I was. What was said to me was threatening and they have caused me to live in fear a lot of the time. I know the truth. My good, close friends know the truth, as well.
On April 13, 2014, he claims that he and a friend were followed by the mysterious strangers, and that this time he managed to capture them on video staring directly at them. The day had started with Jack and his friend, Jane, going out for some sightseeing and lunch, and they found themselves waiting for a streetcar at the French Quarter’s Bienville Street station near Jackson Square. It was here where they would notice two weird looking men dressed in stuffy black suits despite the hot weather at the time, standing there milling about at the station, and Jane would say of them and their behavior:
I knew something was wrong immediately. They looked like identical twins. They were slim, and much taller than the average person. They were dressed in identical black suits, white shirts, skinny black ties, fedoras, and black sun glasses. They just looked so odd. They were pale, they were stiff, and they moved eerily in unison. They had oblong faces with a thin line for a mouth. Their whole vibe was cold and creepy. (They were) calm, but like how a reptile can appear calm. Twin lizards in suits. They leaned in simultaneously to communicate with each other. Their mouths opened slightly, but they were not talking. They were communicating something to each other, but not talking!
A still from the footage supposedly showing the Men in Black at Bienville Street station, New Orleans
The two strange men apparently waited there and repeatedly stared at Jack and Jane the entire time, but when the streetcar finally arrived after a 20-minute wait, the two men reportedly turned away and walked over to a shiny black car with a foreign license plate. The two then simply got into the vehicle and drove away. Jack had captured some of the encounter on his cell phone, and he would later relate to Jane what he thought they were, and although she was taken aback she had indeed seen it all herself so there was no denying that these were not ordinary people. Eerily, Jack later sent her the video footage he had taken, but Jane’s phone inexplicably deleted it, as well as all of the data on her SD card, which the cell phone company was unable to explain. The mysterious video also supposedly deleted itself off of another friend’s phone when Jack attempted to send it. Jack would finally send it to UFOGrid, telling them:
The thought of giving (the video) to anybody scares the hell out of me because when I tried to share it before bad things happened. The thought of what could possibly happen to me if I did release this…I honestly do fear for my life. This experience is awful. I can’t even begin to explain to you how awful it is. The very thought of stirring things up scares the heck out of me. I hope it can help someone that is struggling in silence because of MIB harassment. Whatever or whoever uses these [MIBs] to keep us in fear to control us, is despicable.
Again, what does this strange footage show? There are certainly men dressed in black visible, but it is impossible to tell if they had anything off about them or if they are really the Men in Black or not. And therein lies the trouble with capturing photographic or video evidence of these mysterious individuals. They appear as more or less human, albeit creepy looking, and any alleged photograph is difficult to assess, as it could very well just be some weirdo in a black suit. There is absolutely no way we can really know what we are really seeing in such images, nothing to mark it as truly outside of the explainable and so banishing such evidence to the limbo of mere speculation and rumor.
Indeed, it has not even really been ascertained just what the Men in Black are actually supposed to be in the first place. They are surrounded by so much lore and bizarreness that it is hard to say if they are agents from some secretive government organization, a freelance cabal with their own inscrutable agenda, aliens themselves, something more paranormal in nature, or simply an elaborate and persistent urban legend. Reports of the Men in Black help matters little, as they are so varied and absolutely riddled with myriad high strangeness. Just what are we even supposed to be dealing with here? To again quote my colleague Nick Redfern, when asked what he thought they were he has said in the past:
My personal conclusion is that there are at least two things going on. There are the government-originated MIB, and there are the weirder MIB. As for the former, I prove in the book (The Real Men in Black) that some can be traced back to official agencies of at least several governments. As for those stranger MIB, my personal view is that they are paranormal. Of course, much of this depends on how we define the paranormal! My personal view is that the MIB may be the inhabitants of multi-dimensions or extra-dimensions that co-exist with ours, and whose role it is to keep us away from the truth about not just UFOs, but a whole range of strange phenomena too. But as for why, that is the big question still eluding us!
Whatever the Men in Black are, they appear to be here to stay, and they invariably go hand in hand with the UFO phenomenon, whatever that all entails. Who they are, how they are linked to such oddities, and what their capacity is may likely be debated forever, but for those who have encountered them they are at the very least very real. While these figures have mostly been confined to the realm of witness accounts, with very little physical evidence, we are still left with these intriguing images. Are we really seeing the legendary Men in Black here? Is there any clue to be gleaned from these images and videos? It is all at the very least a baffling piece of the Men in Black puzzle.
First they came for our jobs, and we did nothing. Then they came for our board games, and we did nothing.
“They” are AI robots and the board game is chess. An AI robot programmed by engineers at Google was able to learn chess in four hours just by playing against itself. Then it proceeded to demolish the reigning AI chess bot in a 100 game tournament with 28 wins, 72 draws and no losses. If that’s not scary enough, it used moves and tactics never seen in the 1,500-year history of the game. But the most terrifying thing about this AI chess-monster is this … it was developed by Google.
“The ability of a machine to surpass centuries of human knowledge . . . is a world-changing tool.”
No less than Garry Kasparov, regarded by many as the greatest chess player of all time and the grandmaster lost to IBM’s supercomputer Deep Blue in 1997, says he was more impressed with the victory, learning speed and strategic creativity of AlphaZero.
AlphaZero began (or should we start saying ‘was born’?) at DeepMind, a UK company that was bought in 2014 by Google for $500 million. It was originally AlphaGo, which in 2015 became the first computer Go program to beat a human professional Go player without handicaps on a full-sized 19×19 board. In October 2017, AlphaGo begat AlphaGo Zero, which had the ability to learn the game on its own from the rules rather than from inputting human games. In December 2017, AlphaGo Zero begat AlphaZero, a generalized version of the AI with the same ability to learn games by playing itself.
Hours after it was given the rules of chess, AlphaZero threw down the rook and challenged Stockfish 8, the greatest chess program ever developed. One hundred games later, there was a new champion.
In a paper published in arXiv, the team of developers explain AlphaZero’s secret ability and it is … intuition! Instead of grinding through ever larger numbers of possibilities like most other chess-playing programs, AlphaZero taught itself to test random lines of play and identify and focus on the most relevant ones. This allowed it to examine about 0.1 percent of the possible moves that Stockfish analyzed. As the chess geeks at chess.com point out, there was nothing chess-specific about how AlphaZero learned, allowing it to try moves that chess players (and programs based on their moves and games) would never consider, like using a King as an attacking piece.
The irony in all of this is apparent in the AI robot’s name … AlphaZero plays more like a human than any other chess-playing AI yet learned this with zero human input – just a set of rules and four hours of playing against itself. What other ‘games’ can it master beyond the ability of humans with just a set of rules and a few hours of computing time? Government? Business? War?
Do we really want this kind of power in the hands of Google? Sure, it’s better than Facebook, but Google?
NASA is planning the first interstellar journey in history to search for Aliens
NASA has set their sights on Alpha Centauri, the star closest to our Solar System, and wants the mission to take place in 2069 and look for signs of alien life.
After reaching the moon (again) and actually getting to Mars, the American Space agency wants to turn mankind into an interstellar species.
Despite the fact that the ‘mission’ does not have a name yet and most of the technology necessary to take us there does not even exist, the projected launch date would coincide with the centenary of the arrival of mankind to the Moon.
NASA is yet to develop the necessary technology to travel to Alpha Centauri in a reasonable time.
Initially, scientists say that a spaceship which would need to travel at a minimum of 10 percent of the speed of light would be required to get us there.
The Alpha Centauri constellation is located 4.4 light-years away, and even if one-tenth of the speed of light were achieved, we would be able to visit the star system after a 44-year journey, reaching our nearest neighbor in 2113.
This means we need to ramp up our tech game. In order for mankind to really become an interstellar species, colonize other planets and moons, first in our solar system, we need to develop a technology that’s affordable, reusable, and fast. Really fast.
According to the New Scientist, NASA is considering sending tiny laser-powered probes that, in theory, can travel at a quarter of the speed of light. Other techniques under consideration include the use of nuclear reactions, or through collisions between antimatter and matter.
However, there are other options experts will consider. But, time is ticking so NASA will need all the help it can get to make a trip to Alpha Centauri a reality.
Perhaps the best way to start their journey to our closest cosmic neighbor is by developing a technology that would get us to Mars in a matter of weeks, then days.
Getting to Mars, and creating a transportation system between the two planets could serve as a starting point for further technology in development, and it would make traveling to Mars something routine.
As reported by Newsweek, NASA’s revolutionary mission in 2069 will visit Proxima B, a planet that was discovered not long ago and may be a world very similar to Earth. Interestingly, the manager of the Innovation Foundry at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory Anthony Freeman called the entire project “very nebulous.”
Proxima Centauri B is an exoplanet orbiting within the habitable zone of the closest star to the Sun—the red dwarf star Proxima Centauri, which is in a triple star system. The planet—which has been hailed as Earth’s twin in the past—is located around 4.2 light-years from Earth, which makes it the closest known exoplanet to the Solar System.
In comparison, the only man-made spacecraft that has reached interstellar space is Voyager-1, which is currently traveling at LESS than 1 percent of 1 percent of the speed of life, reports Newsweek.
IF Voyager-1 had the ability to travel at 10 percent the speed of light, it would make it to Alpha Centauri in about 44 years.
The Return of the skull-shaped asteroid: Astronomers say it’s coming back in 2018
The return of the “skull-shaped” asteroid: astronomers calculate when the weirdly shaped space rock will approach Earth.
There are strange things out there in space.
Astrophysicists have warned that our planet will have a new encounter with a strange asteroid that strangely resembles a skull.
The object in question is known as 2015 TB145 and possibly formed from the remains of an extinct comet say, experts.
But don’t worry, astronomers are confident it won’t collide with Earth anytime soon.
The asteroid measures between 625 and 700 meters in diameter and has a rotation period of 2.94 hours.
Astronomer Pablo Santos-Sanz, from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (Spain), characterized it as „a “dark” asteroid, whose reflectance index is «scarcely superior to that of coal.“
“It is currently 3.7 astronomical units away from Earth; that is, 3.7 times the average distance from the Earth to the sun.”
The skull-shaped asteroid “has a magnitude of 26.5, which means it is only visible from Earth using very large telescopes or space telescopes.”
This celestial body caught the attention of scientists and amateur astronomers during its first approach to Earth, which coincided with Halloween on October of 2015.
Animation showing the rotation of the weirdly shaped space rock.
In 2015, the skull-shaped asteroid passed between a distance of 499,000 kilometers of our planet, traveling at a speed of 125,500 kilometers per hour.
During this ‘close’ encounter, astronomers observed the curious celestial body in order to try and gather as much information as possible.
Thanks to numerous measurements, which included observations with the Pan-STARRS telescope located in Hawaii (USA), scientists modeled the course of the asteroid and predicted it will travel passed Earth in November of 2018.
Thankfully, the mystery shaped asteroid will travel noticeably farther from our planet, with an equivalent distance of about 105 Earth-Moon distances, compared to an approximate 1.3 distances when it zipped passed Earth in 2015.
Despite accurate measurements, NASA scientists have warned the asteroid has an erratic orbit, which means that astronomers aren’t sure where it will end up traveling, but they are confident it will miss Earth in the near future.
Users on social networks discussed what would happen if such an asteroid impacted Earth. Some argue that if an asteroid of about 700 meters in diameter impacted our planet it could wipe out entire cities.
Furthermore, if it were to hit Earth, there is a 71 percent chance that it would hit water, and not landmass. Then, a tsunami is our biggest concern. A fireball product of the impact would have an approximate radius of more than eight kilometers. Such a collision would create numerous earthquakes measuring high 7’s on the Richter scale.
A massive structure, stretching 2.3 light-years at the center of our galaxy puzzles astronomers
The gigantic structure of 2.3 light-years in length near a supermassive black hole called Sagittarius A * baffles astronomers.
It turns out that at the center of our galaxy, at around 26,000 light years from Earth, lies a supermassive black hole called Sagittarius A *, four million times more massive than the Sun.
This cosmic monster is not the only one lurking in that region of space.
Astronomers have discovered another gigantic structure located in close proximity, which measures a stunning 2.3 light-years across.
While astronomers have absolutely no clue what it is, they’ve managed to snap a pretty good picture of the ‘structure.’
In 2016, Farhad Yusef-Zadeh of Northwestern University reported the discovery of an unusual ‘filament’ near the center of the Milky Way.
Now, a year later, another team of astronomers has used a state-of-the-art technique to produce the highest quality image of this mysterious structure.
A radio image from the NSF’s Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array showing the center of our galaxy. The mysterious radio filament is the curved line located near the center of the image, & the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), is shown by the bright source near the bottom of the image.
Image Credit: NSF/VLA/UCLA/M. Morris et al.
“However, we still have more work to do to find out what the true nature of this filament is.”
Despite the fact that astronomers aren’t sure what it is, there are three main theories.
The first is that the massive structure is the product caused by high-velocity particles ejected from the supermassive black hole.
A black hole can produce a vertical rotating magnetic field tower that approaches or even coils in the event horizon, the point of no return for approaching matter.
Within this structure, particles would accelerate and produce radio emissions as they spiral around the lines of the magnetic field and away from the black hole.
Another possibility is that the strange filament is a cosmic chain of theoretically not yet detected objects, that are long and extremely thin and transport mass and electrical currents. Pretty awesome, right?
Previously, scientists had predicted that the cosmic strings, if they existed, would migrate to the centers of galaxies.
If the string moves close enough to the black hole, it can be captured when a part of the string crosses the event horizon.
The third theory is that the position and direction of the filament that lines up with the black hole are just coincidental overlaps, and there is no real association between the two. Basically, there’s nothing there.
This would imply that this structure is similar to dozens of other known filaments that are farther from the center of the galaxy.
However, such a coincidence is quite unlikely to happen by chance say astronomers.
“Part of the thrill of science is stumbling across a mystery that is not easy to explain,” said co-author Jun-Hui Zhao of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass. “While we don’t have the answer yet, the path to finding it is fascinating. This result is motivating astronomers to build next-generation radio telescopes with cutting-edge technology.”
The Star of Bethlehem – nowadays often just called the Christmas Star – is a major seasonal symbol throughout the world.
Imagine, if you will, the silhouettes of three regally attired men on camels. They are gazing across gently rolling hills or dunes of white, to a tiny solitary building in the distance. The night is dark, and one exceedingly bright star appears to hover over the small building, sending a bright shaft of light earthward to illuminate its outline. Another light glows gently inside.
Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo in Ravenna, Italy: The Three Wise Men” (named Balthasar, Melchior, and Gaspar). Detail from Mary and Child, surrounded by angels, mosaic of a Ravennate italian-byzantine workshop, completed within 526 AD by the so-called “Master of Sant’Apollinare”.
That is the picture most of us have of the Christmas Star, but it’s an image derived more from imagination and greeting cards than from the Bible. In fact, the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament is the only place this “star” is mentioned in the Bible (Matt 2:2, 7-10, King James Version). Even there, information on the star is sparse. The most telling reference is Matt. 2:9:
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
For anyone inclined to insist on the literal truth of scripture, this verse solves the question. If this verse is literally true, then the Star of Bethlehem could not have been any known natural phenomenon, simply because none would move that way.
However, if we grant the author of Matthew – who assuredly was not an eyewitness at the Nativity – a little artistic license, the “star” might not have appeared literally in the way described. In that case we can consider some natural, astronomical possibilities. In fact, there is some uncertainty about the use of the word for star in the Greek manuscript. Some contend that the word could have meant or implied an object other than a physical star.
Wesley Loftis in Clarksville, Virginia caught this Gemind meteor on the morning of December 13, 2017.
Some artistic depictions show what appear to be a bright meteor or “falling star.” Although exploding meteors, sometimes called bolides or fireballs, can be startling and truly impressive, they last only seconds. They can occur at any time. People far more aware of the night sky than the modern city dweller is likely would not have placed much significance in them. Such transient phenomena could not possibly have “led” the wise men (the Bible never calls them “kings”) to Bethlehem.
There are other astronomical objects or events that might have seemed more significant, but there are problems. First off, we don’t know for sure when Jesus was born. Due to an error by a Church cleric hundreds of years later, the birth of Jesus was thought to be at least 4 years later than it really was. So today we know that the birth was no later than 4 BC, and it could have been a little earlier. And it certainly was not on December 25. The Bible does not say, leaving us few clues. One clue we do have, however, is the reference that shepherds were out in the field “keeping watch over their flock by night” (Luke 2:8), something the scholars say was likely only done in the spring when lambs were born. Thus the birth was likely in the spring, probably between 7 and 4 BC.
Few astronomical records were kept at the time, except by the Chinese and Koreans. They did record what might have been comets in 5 and possibly again in 4 BC. The main problem here is that comets were generally regarded as omens of evil and bad fortune by the Chinese and likely also by the magi-astrologers the New Testament calls “wise men.” Rather than follow such a cometary “star,” they likely would have gone the other way.
Another possibility is that the Christmas Star was a nova or supernova, a previously unseen star that suddenly brightens in a big way. Indeed, one such star was recorded by the Chinese in the spring of 5 BC, and was seen for more than 2 months. However, its position in the constellation Capricornus meant that it likely would not have seemed to “lead” the wise men in the manner implied in the Bible.
For some, the star was not really a star at all, but a planet, Jupiter. Or more precisely, it was the conjunction or close meeting of Jupiter with two other planets, Saturn and Mars. Planets were “wandering stars” to the ancients, and to many they bore great astrological or mystical significance. Astronomers know that there was a series of such conjunctions in 6 and 5 BC, occurring in the constellation Pisces (the Fishes), said by some to be the astrological “sign of the Jews.” To add more credence for later Christian writers such as Matthew, the sign of a fish later became the secret sign for Christians.
Mosaic pavement of a 6th century synagogue at Beth Alpha, Jezreel Valley, northern Israel. It was discovered in 1928. Signs of the zodiac surround the central chariot of the sun (a Greek motif), while the corners depict the 4 “turning points” (“tekufot”) of the year, solstices and equinoxes, each named for the month in which it occurs- tequfah of Tishrei, (tequfah of Tevet), tequfah of Ni(san), tequfah of Tamuz.
Unless some major and indisputable archaeological discovery is found to settle the question once and for all, the mystery of what the Christmas Star was will remain in the realm of faith. Science cannot explain it as any known physical object; history offers no clear record; and religion offers only an untestable miraculous apparition. But although there may be no agreement on the nature of the star or even its actual sighting two millenia ago, all sides can agree on the message the Christmas star heralded: “…on earth peace, good will toward men.” (Luke 2:14)
Bottom line:Possible astronomical explanations for the Star of Bethlehem or Christmas star.
Our Solar System may have been born from bubbles of material hurled from a colossal Wolf-Rayet-type star, according to a theory published Friday.
Scientists studying the origin of our system generally believe – no, wait, sorry. Stop. You know 2017 has been a bonkers year when the New York Times reveals a classified $22m US military program to investigate UFOs – complete with grainy videos of possibly alien spacecraft and claims of finding out-of-this-world alloys – and no one blinks an eye.
Did you miss that report? Quite a few people did. It came out on Saturday. And everyone was distracted by politics, hackers, longing looks at 2018, Christmas shopping, we dunno. Just letting you know.
Where were we? Oh yeah. The Solar System. Scientists generally believe our system formed near a supernova – an exploding dead star that emits shockwaves of energy and a shower of elements that kickstart the formation of a new star. As one of these protostars matures, leftover material in the shape of a disc clumps together to create planetesimals and eventually planets. That's pretty much how boffins think our system was created.
Now, however, a bunch of physicists reckon – look, OK. Sorry. Very cool research, but time out.
This New York Times story. It was written by a couple of Pulitzer Prize winners and one of their colleagues. It feels like it should be significant, but, what are we dealing with here? Blurry video and audio recordings of UFOs spotted by pilots in Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets. Is it just... bollocks, or what? This particular program was scrapped in 2012 after five years. Is it a convenient cash cow for aerospace research companies? Oh sure, we'll take a look at these UFOs, here's our not inconsiderable invoice.
On the surface, this NYT exposé looks exciting, but, just, what exactly was proven by Uncle Sam's classified probe into UFO sightings – anything? The videos look like a bug got stuck on the Navy jets' sensors.
Right, sorry. Real science. Focus. So, these physicists have put forward an alternative scenario for the formation of our Solar System, describing it in a paper published in The Astrophysical Journal this week.
They point out that our system has an abundance of aluminum-26 and not a lot of iron-60 compared to the rest of the Milky Way galaxy. If the system was formed from a supernova, it would have a relatively rich amount of both isotopes, yet like a pale nerd, it is iron deficient.
Vikram Dwaradas, coauthor of the paper and a research associate professor in astronomy and astrophysics at the University of Chicago in the US, said supernovae release both aluminum-27 and iron-56. So “it begs the question of why one was injected into [our] Solar System and the other was not."
Hold that thought. Speaking of metals, these mysterious, unknown alien alloys the US government apparently found. It's freaking some people out. We're obviously not talking machined metal, right? Actual alien spacecraft parts landing on Earth. A fucking wing fallen off the back of an intergalactic lorry. No way. Where's the mass panic? No one's batting an eyelid. These alloys have got to be just rocks from space. Flecks of metal from another corner of the galaxy littering our planet. Sorry, it's just too distracting right now.
OK, focus. Actual proper peer-reviewed science.
This lack of iron isotope in our Solar System. The physicists have turned to Wolf-Rayet stars for an answer. These are gigantic hot stars, and are more than 40 times the size of our Sun. As they burn, they produce copious amounts of elements that are spewed across space via a powerful stellar wind.
The key thing here is that Wolf-Rayet stars create lots of aluminum-26 and little iron-60, and their output is therefore a close match to the conditions at the early stages of our Solar System.
So, forget a dramatic supernova. A Wolf-Rayet star likely kickstarted and fueled our system, and is responsible for the nonsense world we live in now, according to this study.
The stellar wind sends ripples through the Wolf-Rayet star’s surrounding debris, causing dense shells of material to form around bubble-like structures. Nicolas Dauphas, coauthor of the paper and a professor of geophysical sciences also at the Chicago uni, said "the shell of such a bubble is a good place to produce stars."
The dust and gas within each sphere can be compressed to form stars. The researchers estimated that between one per cent to 16 per cent of all Sun-like stars could be forged in these environments.
"The idea is that aluminum-26 flung from the Wolf-Rayet star is carried outwards on grains of dust formed around the star. These grains have enough momentum to punch through one side of the shell, where they are mostly destroyed – trapping the aluminum inside the shell," Dwarkadas explained.
The shell collapses inward due to gravity over time, ultimately forming a solar system. The Wolf-Rayet star that may have been our stellar nursery would have burned out and died long ago. The researchers argued that even if it ended its life as a supernova, the iron-60 may not have penetrated the walls of the bubbles nor be equally scattered through the surrounding space. If it collapsed into a black hole, it would also have produced small amounts of iron-60.
Suddenly, the notion that there are alien metals on Earth and all around us in space isn't so crazy. We are all made of stars. Merry Christmas. Now, where's our $22m? ®
There is overwhelming evidence that we are being visited by aliens, says Greater Sudbury's resident UFO researcher and webmaster of noufors.com. Michel Deschamps shares some of this year's sightings. (Supplied)
This is the time of year to witness a strange site in the sky, not an alien spacecraft, mind you, but a chubby guy in a flying sleigh.
But that's not what gets Michel Deschamps' heart racing. Greater Sudbury's resident UFO researcher and webmaster of NOUFORS.com reached out to Sudbury.com this month to share some of the best UFO sightings he received over the past year.
“It has been a while since my last submission to the Northern Life,” Michel M. Deschamps said in an email. “I have been busy adding new sections to my historical UFO-related website, NOUFORS.com, and correcting all the broken links I can find."
But that's not all Deschamps has been doing. For decades, he's been collecting local and area reports of strange objects in the sky and cataloguing them on his website, a somewhat thankless job to which Deschamps has dedicated himself since nearly the dawn of the internet.
NOUFORS.com might retain the look of a website circa the late 1990s, but it is an historical treasure trove of sightings. What it lacks in design esthetic, it makes up for in data.
Here are some of the best sightings reported to Deschamps in the past year, and catalogued on NOUFORS.com.
Date: Monday, Jan. 30 Location: Sudbury, Ontario
A Sudbury resident had a daytime sighting of a large object while riding the Lasalle-Madison bus on Notre-Dame. She watched as it came down out of the sky, somewhere between where she was and the Adanac Ski Hill, and proceeded to "pace" the bus from that distance. She said that it seemed to be submarine-shaped with a segmented top that reminded her of cauliflower. She submitted a sketch of the object and is willing to have her story recorded as an MP3 for my website.
Date: April 14 Location: Sudbury, Ontario
I received the following message from one of my Facebook contacts who said that her mother had seen something unusual in the sky: "My neighbour and I had a fire in the pit. We had been looking up at the sky and I said, 'There's the Little Dipper.' Shortly after that, she said: 'Lynn, what's that?' I looked up and saw something flying in a diagonal formation — four lines — heading from the northeast to the southwest, not white but slightly yellow tinge. The best way to describe it would be like stripes on (the sleeve of a soldier). She kept asking what it was, and I said it's either a UFO or the U.S. testing a new plane. She said, 'What if it comes back?' and I said, 'They're probably over Killarney by now.' But then it came back, this time in a different formation. It came from the southwest to the northeast in sort of a triangle formation, this time. There was the 'nose' and two to the side and then one following at the back. We watched and then they zoomed away and disappeared."
Date: Thursday, May 11 Location: Sudbury, Ontario
A cabby friend of mine sent me the following message at 1:57 a.m., Thursday, May 11: "Just dropped off the crew from Westjet from the airport. They said they saw something when they were coming in to land. They were playing off that it was a drone. I said, 'I doubt it.' It was a bright light they said lit up the cabin. They had the landing gear down.' I asked him about what altitude were they at, and he said: 'I guess maybe 5,000 feet or so.' "
Date: Monday, Oct. 30 Location: Sudbury, Ontario
My girlfriend was headed to the hospital for an appointment, and as she walked towards Van Horne, she looked up at the sky as she usually does, and she spotted a white object moving among the clouds at a very high altitude. She described it as being oval in shape, completely white in color, and moving from the east and heading north. At arm's length, the object was about a quarter inch in size. It had no wings and no tail, so this was not a plane, which she would have been able to identify, even at the distance she was looking from. She submitted a sketch, which is on the 2017 Sightings Reports page of my website. http://noufors.com/2017_sighting_reports.html
Date: Wednesday, Nov. 22 Location: Blind River, Ontario
While at work and on my supper break, I received a short message via e-mail from my friend and contact, Joan Morningstar, which stated that there had been a sighting of seven strange lights traveling in a straight line. They were at a relatively low altitude because of the cloud cover.
UFO sightings are not rare, Deschamps said in his email to Sudbury.com, but things are made more complicated by having Chinese lanterns and personal remote-control drones flying around. But UFO behaviour is different, and once people know what to look for when trying to identify what they are seeing, it becomes easy to "separate the wheat from the chaff," as they say (or in this case, as Deschamps would say).
Deshcamps' next project is to try and collect as many reports from former police officers and make the interviews available as audio files on his website.
“I already have plenty of highly interesting audio files to listen to, and I'm hoping to add a few more,” he said.
Anyone willing to have their stories recorded for the NOUFORS.com audio archive is asked to contact Deschamps via his website, or by phone.
“I've seen how much relief people get when they finally get their stories off their chests,” he said. “They now have the peace of mind that they are not alone in seeing these objects, and that together, we can bring the UFO truth to the surface for all to see.
“But then again, the evidence is overwhelming that we are being visited, the hundreds of thousands of government documents that I have in my possession will attest to that fact.”
As I’ve said before, there’s nothing more both goth than space, and the universe constantly reminds us . On Halloween in 2015, a spooktacular asteroid called 2015 TB145 whizzed by Earth at a distance of 30,200 miles (486,000 km). Apparently, this freaky-looking space thing will be visiting us again next year.
The so-called “Halloween Asteroid” is only about 2,300 feet wide. Though astronomers first spotted it a few years ago, only recently did scientists at the National Science Foundation’s Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico notice the asteroid’s more chilling qualities. In certain lights, it resembles a human skull, which is astonishingly on-brand for a “Halloween asteroid.”
Researchers studying the asteroid published their new findings in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics back in February.
Image: J. A. Peñas/SINC
“It is an Apollo-type near-Earth asteroid (NEA),” researcher Pablo Santos-Sanz from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC) said in a press release. “The proximity of this small object meant greater brightness, so we decided to study it using various observation techniques: on the one hand, we used optical telescopes from the Sierra Nevada Observatory in Granada, the Calar Alto Observatory in Almería and the La Hita Observatory in Toledo; and on the other, we analysed it in the mid-infrared using the Very Large Telescope (VLT) VISIR instrument at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Cerro Paranal, Chile”.
When the Halloween Asteroid makes its next pass near Earth, it’ll be even fartheraway than it was back in 2015 — this time, it’ll be about 105 lunar distances from us. And it won’t even be stopping by for Halloween — researchers say it’s expected to visit in November 2018.
It's the Halloween Asteroid! (Image: NAIC-Arecibo/NSF)
Still, that doesn’t mean 2015 TB145 won’t come back for Halloween ever.
“The next slightly more exciting encounter will be around Halloween’s day in the year 2088, when the object approaches Earth to a distance of about 20 lunar distances,” researcher Thomas G. Müller from the Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik, said in a statement. “The encounter on Halloween’s day 2015 was the closest approach of an object of that size since 2006, and the next known similar event is the passage of 137108 (1999 AN10) on August 7, 2027. Later, 99942 Apophis will follow on April 13, 2029 with an Earth passage at approximately 0.1 lunar distances.”
Scientists will continue to monitor this strange asteroid as it makes its way back to Earth. Clearly, this is no phony goth — and it’s NOT A PHASE, MOM.
SpaceX's Jaw-Dropping Rocket Launch Wows Spectators Across Southern California - PART I
By Tariq Malik, Space.com Managing Editor
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. — Wow! Talk about some Friday night lights! A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lit up the evening sky over Southern California last night (Dec. 22) in a dazzling display that was visible to potentially millions of spectators and set Twitter abuzz with sightings.
The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched into space from California's Vandenberg Air Force Base north of Los Angeles at 5:27 p.m. PST (8:27 p.m. EST/0127 GMT) — just 30 minutes after sunset — carrying 10 Iridium Next communications satellites into orbit. The mission was a success, with all 10 satellites reaching their intended orbits. But it was the jaw-dropping views of the Falcon 9 streaking into space that stole the show, leaving an ethereal glowing plume in its wake as it soared into orbit.
"Caught off guard and had no idea what was happening at first ...must say it was one of my life's coolest moments!!!," said Michelle Snyder, who watched the launch from the Hotel del Coronado in Coronado, California. She sent in the video shown above. "A forever memory with my daughters and parents who were in town visiting for the holidays. FOREVER MEMORY!!!
From a southbound lane of the Interstate-5 freeway in Irvine, the launch wowed my 9-year-old daughter Zadie, who marveled at seeing the Falcon 9's first stage separate from its upper stage ("I saw first stage separation? I saw stage separation!") as we drove to meet relatives for the holidays. Her final say on the launch: "That is beautiful!"
My daughter wasn't alone in her awe. Observers across Southern California, and even as far away as Arizona and Tijuana, Mexico, reported stunning views of the launch.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk chimed in with a joke: "Nuclear alien UFO from North Korea," he wrote in a video post of the launch on Twitter.
Tonight I saw a weird light in the sky in Los Angeles. Minutes later The LAFD issued an advisory that the "mysterious light in the sky" was from a rocket launch. The @spacex 's Falcon 9 rocket lighted up the sky as it carries 10 Iridium satellites from California to Earth's orbit
: @MortizLH
Enjoy those awesome views? We'll try to share more as readers send in images, but SpaceX says its rocket launch shows will only get better.
In one last Twitter post, Elon Musk promised even more spectacular views when SpaceX's new heavy-lift rocket — the Falcon Heavy — begins launching in 2018. That rocket consists of three first-stage boosters, each of them based on the Falcon 9 first stage, that will separate and return to Earth much like the booster seen in Friday night's launch.
"If you liked tonight's launch, you will really like Falcon Heavy next month: 3 rocket cores & 3X thrust. 2 cores return to base doing synchronized aerobatics. 3rd lands on droneship," Musk wrote.
Editor's note:If you captured an amazing photo of video of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket launch and would like to share it with Space.com for a story or gallery, send images and comments in to: spacephotos@space.com. This story was updated at 10:42 a.m. EST to include the video and comments by Michelle Snyder from Coronado, California.
What were our ancestors like 10,000 or more years ago? The most common image is one of small nomadic bands endlessly in pursuit of the next meal. Men hunted game while women and children gathered fruits, seeds, roots, shoots, insects, and other edibles.
The height of technology was a finely worked stone knife blade or spear point; nets, baskets, and cordage were also put to good use. Permanent structures were superfluous, for the group never stayed in one place very long. Material goods were sparse as possessions had to be limited to those easily carried. Jewellery (perhaps beads, animal teeth, or shells strung on a cord) and personal decoration (body paint, tattoos) were prized. In colder climates appropriate clothing was fashioned from animal skins. Social institutions were minimal. Not until the Neolithic Revolution, beginning about 10,000 years ago, did agriculture and domestication appear. This in turn allowed permanent settlement, leading to specialisation of labour, the development of crafts (including pottery and metalworking), the building of substantial structures, long-distance trade, and the slow and gradual evolution of complex societies.
None of this happened overnight. It took thousands of years, and it was not until around 4000 to 3000 BCE that true signs of high culture first appeared, such as fine artistry in decorative crafts, written records, scientific observations of the heavens, complex political organisations, and megalithic building projects. This level of achievement was reached in Mesopotamia, the Nile Valley, and the Indus Valley by the beginning of the third millennium BCE. A well-known example is the rise of dynastic Egypt about 3200 to 3100 BCE and the building of the Djoser pyramid circa 2630 BCE. Stonehenge in England dates from the same period.
Although accepted as dogma by many, this nice neat scenario may be completely wrong.
Questioning Accepted History
Back in 1991, I had the temerity to announce that the Great Sphinx of Egypt, conventionally dated to 2500 BCE (the reign of Pharaoh Khafre), actually has its origins in the 7000 to 5000 BCE range, or possibly earlier.
My announcement was done via a presentation at the October 1991 annual meeting of the Geological Society of America (this was allowed only after a formal abstract, submitted with my colleague John Anthony West, was accepted based on positive professional peer review).1 I made my case utilising scientific analyses, comparing erosion and weathering profiles around the Sphinx to the ancient climatic history of Egypt.
In brief, the Sphinx sits on the edge of the Sahara Desert, a hyper-arid region for the past 5,000 years; yet the statue shows substantial rain-induced erosion. The original structure must date back thousands of years prior to 3000 BCE (the head was re-carved in dynastic times).
I had pushed the Great Sphinx, arguably the grandest and most recognisable statue in the world, back into a period when humanity was supposedly just transitioning from a hunter-gatherer economy to a sedentary life. People 7,000 or more years ago were still brutish and unsavoury, at least by modern civilised standards. Certainly they were not carving giant statues (the Sphinx is about 20 meters tall by over 70 meters long) out of solid limestone bedrock. Immediately after my announcement of an older Sphinx, I was under attack. Archaeologist Carol Redmount (University of California, Berkeley) was quoted in the media, “There’s just no way that could be true.” The article continued, “The people of that region would not have had the technology, the governing institutions or even the will to build such a structure thousands of years before Khafre’s reign, she said.”2
The initial hoopla peaked in February 1992 at a “debate” on the age of the Great Sphinx held at the Chicago meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.3As the New York Timesput it, “The exchange was to last an hour, but it spilled over to a news conference and then a hallway confrontation in which voices were raised and words skated on the icy edge of scientific politeness.” Egyptologist Mark Lehner could not accept the notion of an older Sphinx, personally attacking me by labelling my research “pseudoscience.” Lehner argued, “If the Sphinx was built by an earlier culture, where is the evidence of that civilisation? Where are the pottery shards? People during that age were hunters and gatherers. They didn’t build cities.”4
At the time I lacked any pottery shards. But I was sure of my science, and I persisted. Two decades later, we have something better than pottery shards, and even earlier than my conservative Sphinx date of circa 5000 BCE to 7000 BCE (I now currently favour the older end of this range, or an even earlier date for the original Sphinx). Göbekli Tepe dates from over 10,000 years ago.
Better than Pot Shards
A short drive from Urfa (alternatively Sanlıurfa), southeastern Turkey, atop a mountain north of the Harran Plain, sits Göbekli Tepe. Since 1995 Prof. Dr. Klaus Schmidt of the German Archaeological Institute has been excavating the site.5 Recently I visited it for myself. I was amazed.
At Göbekli Tepe immense finely carved and decorated T-shaped limestone pillars, many in the range of two to five and a half meters tall and weighing up to an estimated 10 to 15 tons, stand in Stonehenge-like circles. The workmanship is extraordinary, with clear sharp edges that would do any modern mason proud. It may be a cliché, but I cannot help but think of the opening scene of the classic 1968 movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. A group of ape-like proto-humans discovers a giant monolith; influenced by it, they learn to use tools, leading to civilisation.6
Various pillars at Göbekli Tepe are decorated with bas-reliefs of animals, including foxes, boars, snakes, aurochs (wild cattle), Asiatic wild asses, wild sheep, birds (cranes, a vulture), a gazelle, and arthropods (scorpion, ants). The carvings are refined, sophisticated, and beautifully executed. Not only are there bas-reliefs, but also carvings in the round, including a carnivorous beast, possibly a lion or other feline, working its way down a column, apparently in pursuit of a boar carved in relief below. In the round, carvings of lions and boars have been uncovered, now housed in the Museum of Sanlıurfa, as is a life-sized statue of a man, which, though from Urfa, apparently dates to the Göbekli Tepe era.
Also from Göbekli Tepe are perfectly drilled stone beads. And, according to Prof. Schmidt, while some of the stone pillars were set in the local bedrock, others were set into a concrete- or terrazzo-like floor. Looking only at style and quality of workmanship, one might easily suggest that Göbekli Tepe dates between 3000 and 1000 BCE. How wrong one would be. Based on radiocarbon analyses, the site goes back to the period of 9000 to 10,000 BCE, and was intentionally buried circa 8000 BCE.7That is, the site dates back an astounding 10,000 to 12,000 years ago!
This was supposedly the time of the brutish, nomadic, hunters and gatherers who, according to many academics, did not have the technology, governing institutions, or will to build structures such as those found at Göbekli Tepe. Clearly there is a disconnect between what conventional historians and archaeologists have been teaching all these years and the clear evidence on the ground.
As Stanford University archaeologist Ian Hodder commented, Göbekli Tepe is “unbelievably big and amazing, at a ridiculously early date… huge great stones and fantastic, highly refined art… Many people think that it changes everything… It overturns the whole apple cart. All our theories were wrong.”8Like my redating of the Great Sphinx, Göbekli Tepe forces us to reconsider our antiquity.
And like my work on the Sphinx, the specialists are perplexed by Göbekli Tepe. Patrick Symmes wrote in Newsweek, “But the real reason the ruins at Göbekli remain almost unknown, not yet incorporated in textbooks, is that the evidence is too strong, not too weak. ‘The problem with this discovery’, as [Glenn] Schwartz of Johns Hopkins puts it, ‘is that it is unique’. No other monumental sites from the era have been found. Before Göbekli, humans drew stick figures on cave walls, shaped clay into tiny dolls, and perhaps piled up small stones for shelter or worship. Even after Göbekli, there is little evidence of sophisticated building.”9
In a nutshell, we have evidence of high culture and civilisation circa 10,000 to 8000 BCE, but then an apparent decline or hiatus for thousands of years, until the “rise” of civilisation once again in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and elsewhere. What happened?
A Record of Precession at Göbekli Tepe
A hallmark of civilisation is precise scientific observation. Astronomy is often considered the earliest yet most sophisticated of the sciences. A particularly subtle astronomical phenomenon, the discovery of which is generally credited to Hipparchus of Rhodes in the second century BCE,10 is the slow movement of the stars relative to the equatorial coordinate system. This is commonly referred to as the precession of the equinoxes. The entire cycle, with stars returning to their “starting points,” takes somewhat under 26,000 years. Some researchers suggest that precession was known to the ancient Egyptians and other early civilisations, and is reflected in myths worldwide.11 Others dispute such assertions. I found evidence of precession at Göbekli Tepe, adding another layer of sophistication to this remarkable site.
The excavated portions of Göbekli Tepe lie on the southern slope of a hill looking out to the southern skies. Thus far, the better part of four stone circles (enclosures) has been excavated in an area measuring about 40 by 40 meters square. Additional, later and smaller, pillars and structures have been partially uncovered both 20 to 30 meters north and about 80 meters west of the major area of circles,12 and eighteen or more stone circles still under the earth have been identified. Enclosure D is located furthest north. To the southeast lies Enclosure C, and to the south of Enclosure D lies Enclosure B and finally A. The enclosures are very close to each other, almost abutting. Each enclosure possesses a pair of tall central parallel pillars ringed by a circle of shorter pillars with later stonewalls between the pillars. If at some point the enclosures were covered over, they may have been entered from above; indeed, possible carved stone “portals” have been found that may have been set in a roof.
The central pairs of pillars are oriented generally toward the southeast, as if forming sighting tubes toward the sky. The central pillars of Enclosure D include arms and hands, with the hands holding the belly or navel area, and it is clear that the anthropomorphic pillars are facing south. The orientations vary from enclosure to enclosure, however. For Enclosure D the central pillars are oriented approximately 7º east of south. Those for Enclosures C, B, and A are approximately 13º east of south, 20º east of south, and 35º east of south respectively.13 These varying angles suggest the builders were observing stars and building new enclosures oriented progressively toward the east as they followed particular stars or star clusters over hundreds of years.
What were the builders observing? This is a difficult question to answer, but we can hypothesise. On the morning of the Vernal Equinox of circa 10,000 BCE, before the Sun rose due east at Göbekli Tepe, the Pleiades, Taurus, and the top of Orion were in view in the direction indicated by the central stones of Enclosure D, with Orion’s belt not far above the horizon (as seen from the best vantage points in the area) as dawn broke.14 A similar scenario played out for the orientation of the central stones of Enclosure C in circa 9500 BCE and for Enclosure B in circa 9000 BCE. Enclosure A is oriented toward the Pleiades, Taurus, and Orion on the morning of the Vernal Equinox circa 8500 BCE, but due to precessional changes, the entire belt of Orion no longer rose above the horizon before dawn broke. By about 8150 BCE the belt of Orion remained below the horizon at dawn on the morning of the Vernal Equinox. These dates fit well the timeframe established for Göbekli Tepe on the basis of radiocarbon dating.
The Vernal Equinox is easily observed and noted, and since the beginning of recorded history has been an important marker, celebrated with festivities. It marks the first day of the year in numerous calendars, and is tied to cosmological creation stories. I suspect that these traditions go back to Göbekli Tepe times, and even earlier.
The Orion-Taurus region of the sky has been a focus of ancient humans for tens of thousands of years in Europe and the Middle East. Here are located the asterisms of Orion’s belt and the Hyades, as well as the Pleiades. Researchers such as Michael Rappenglueck, Frank Edge, and Luz Antequera Congregado have identified the constellation Taurus and the Pleiades among the paintings of Lascaux cave, France, dating back 16,500 years ago.15 Additionally, Rappenglueck asserts that a tiny tablet from Germany, carved of mammoth ivory and dating back at least 32,500 years, depicts the constellation Orion in the familiar guise of a narrow-waist male with outstretched arms and legs.16
Given such evidence, it is reasonable that the Göbekli Tepe people recognised Orion as a human figure, even as a hunter. The mammal remains found while excavating Göbekli Tepe (including numerous gazelle, aurochs or wild cattle, wild ass, fox, wild sheep/goat species, and boars), as well as the reliefs on the pillars, can be taken to indicate a hunting society. Indeed, studying the anthropomorphic pillars of Enclosure D, they may represent, in stylised form, Orion. Not only do they have arms (which could be interpreted as the arms of Orion brought down to the body), but also prominent belts (the belt stars of Orion) and fox pelt loincloths that may represent the Orion Nebula and associated features.
My suggestion that the Göbekli Tepe people were observing the Orion-Taurus-Pleiades region of the sky on the morning of the Vernal Equinox is simply a hypothesis. If they were observing stars (versus the Sun, for instance), then they needed to readjust their observations over the centuries due to precessional changes. And maybe they were observing something more than just the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars.
Göbekli Tepe, Easter Island, and the Plasma Connection
Having returned from Easter Island (January 2010) not long before visiting Göbekli Tepe (May 2010), I was surprised to see numerous iconographic similarities between the two. I believe these similarities are real, but I might have missed them if I had not been to both sites in succession. Furthermore, both Easter Island and Göbekli Tepe may relate to powerful plasma events in the skies at the end of the last ice age.
The outstanding feature of Easter Island is the moai, those huge stone heads and torsos that dot the island. In the case of Göbekli Tepe, stone pillars dominate the scene. Amazingly, both the moai and the anthropomorphic central pillars of Enclosure D at Göbekli Tepe have arms and hands positioned similarly against the body, with hands and fingers extended over the belly and navel region. The moai are looking up at the skies, and I believe the Göbekli Tepe pillars are also looking towards the skies. Are they looking to identical phenomena?
As I have discussed elsewhere,17the indigenous Easter Island rongorongo script may record a major plasma event in the skies thousands of years ago, at the end of the last ice age. Plasma consists of electrically charged particles. Familiar plasma phenomena on Earth today include lightning and auroras, the northern and southern lights. In the past, much more powerful plasma events may have taken place, perhaps due to coronal mass ejections from the Sun or emissions from other celestial objects. Powerful plasma phenomena could cause strong electrical discharges to hit Earth, burning and incinerating materials on the planet’s surface.
Los Alamos plasma physicist Anthony L. Peratt and his associates have established that petroglyphs found worldwide record an intense plasma event (or events) in prehistory.18Peratt has determined that powerful plasma phenomena observed in the skies would take on characteristic shapes resembling humanoid figures, humans with bird heads, sets of rings or donut shapes, and writhing snakes or serpents – shapes reflected in the ancient petroglyphs. Plasma events may be a dominant theme found among the ancient remains of Easter Island. Likewise, plasma may be important to understanding Göbekli Tepe.
One of the strange and perplexing aspects of Göbekli Tepe is that it was not simply abandoned and left to oblivion, but intentionally buried around 8000 BCE. Furthermore, before its final burial, stonewalls were built between the finely wrought pillars. These walls are, in my opinion, clearly secondary as in many cases they cover over the fine relief carvings on the pillars. They are also much cruder than the pillars. Additionally, some pillars appear to have fallen over and broken, and were subsequently repaired or re-erected when the walls were built. In several cases the bases of the broken pillars are missing or lying horizontally under the tops of the broken pillars that were set to the correct height on a pile of stones. At this late stage the walls and pillars may have been roofed over.
Among the oddities of Easter Island are the low-lying, solid, thick-walled stone buildings with narrow entrances that look like bunkers or fallout shelters. These stone “houses” of Easter Island are similar to the structures formed by the walls and pillars of Göbekli Tepe. Could they, in both cases, have been protection from some type of phenomena emanating from the skies, such as plasma strikes?
Some might criticise comparisons between Easter Island and Göbekli Tepe not only on the basis that they are on opposite sides of the globe, but are also ostensibly separated by thousands of years (Göbekli Tepe dating from 8000 BCE and before, whereas according to standard chronologies Easter Island was not inhabited until a mere millennium and a half ago). In counterargument, I question whether we really know when Easter Island was first colonised. Even if surviving Easter Island antiquities and structures are from a relatively late period, they may reflect earlier traditions and styles, perhaps brought by settlers from elsewhere, that date back to a time of intense plasma outbursts. The rongorongo tablets may carefully preserve ancient texts that were copied over and over.
Just as I have argued that the Easter Island rongorongo script records plasma events in the ancient skies, so too might certain carved motifs found at Göbekli Tepe. Peratt has made the connection between birdman petroglyphs and plasma phenomena around the world. On Easter Island we find birdman petroglyphs as well as birdmen and bird symbols among the rongorongo hieroglyphs. At Göbekli Tepe a very similar bird form was carved into one of the pillars. Peratt records many plasma phenomena that can be interpreted as having the appearance of snakes. An abundance of snakes are found on the pillars of Göbekli Tepe, slithering vertically up and down the ends of some of the columns. Could these represent huge bolts of plasma?
Buried for Posterity
Based on the evidence slowly being pieced together, it appears there may have been a major plasma event, or events, in antiquity. In a previous article (see New Dawn 121)19I posited that a major plasma event, circa 9700 BCE, helped bring about the end of the last ice age. If the radiocarbon dating of Göbekli Tepe, to circa 10,000 to 8000 BCE is correct, perhaps the first-built stone circle was initiated in response to this plasma event of circa 9700 BCE.
The plasma phenomena were observed originating from the south, the direction toward which the Göbekli Tepe complex is oriented. Plasma events may have continued for centuries, and they may correlate with the additions and elaborations – stonewalls and more stone circles – seen at Göbekli Tepe. Perhaps ultimately the plasma was too much for the Göbekli Tepe people to bear, and they abandoned the site, but not before carefully covering it over. Whether their intention was to return once the skies calmed down, or to preserve their work for posterity, we do not know.
What happened at Göbekli Tepe? What were the people of that time doing? What were they experiencing? Why did they bury their creation and leave? Where did they go? These may be more than simple academic questions. I suspect that the Göbekli Tepe people experienced something dramatic, something so important they felt compelled to memorialise it in a record of stone that could last for over ten thousand years. They expended enormous resources to leave a message, possibly a warning, for us. Now it is time to fully uncover it and decipher what they had to say.

7. I briefly discussed the dating of Göbekli Tepe on site with Prof. Schmidt. It is based not only on calibrated radiocarbon dates of circa 9000 BCE or earlier on organic remains found in the material used to fill the site (these dates would be later than the actual occupation of the site), but also dates of circa 8000-7500 BCE on pedogenic carbonate coatings and micro-stalactites on wall stones (see Peters and Schmidt, 2004, 182 [note 5.]). These carbonate coatings and micro-stalactites would have formed only after the burial of the site and after soil formation began, thus indicating that the site itself was buried by circa 8000 BCE. Taken together, I am convinced that the evidence indicates that the site was actively used in the tenth and ninth millennia BCE and intentionally buried (as indicated by the systematic layers of the fill material and the material the fill contains, including flint tools and waste, animal and plant remains) circa 8000 BCE. The older Enclosures (A, B, C, and D) belong to Schmidt’s “Layer III.” Overlying Layer III is the younger Layer II, which contains smaller pillars and structures, and may date to the same period as the Neolithic site of Nevali Çori, an area northwest of Göbekli Tepe and similar in many respects to the Layer II period at Göbekli Tepe. Nevali Çori was excavated in the 1990s, but has since been flooded as a result of the Atatürk Dam built on the Euphrates River. Nevali Çori and Layer II of Göbekli Tepe may date to the second half of the ninth millennium BCE. In the catalog to accompany a 2007 exhibit at the Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe (Die ältesten Monumente der Menschheit. Vor 12.000 Jahren in Anatolien, Stuttgart: Konrad Theiss, 2007), the earlier material at Göbekli Tepe, that of Layer III, is referred to 9500-8800 BCE whereas the material from Layer II is referred to 8800-8000 BCE and material from Nevali Çori is dated to circa 8500-7900 BCE. Prof. Schmidt suggested that some of the carved depressions and gouges, for instance on the tops of pillars, may date to a time when the site was buried but still remembered as an important or holy site, and people came to partake of the energy of the site. As Veysí Yildiz, son of the local landowner, explained, even before the archaeological remains were discovered at Göbekli Tepe, the area was held in reverence (stone-covered graves are found on the top of the mound to this day).

All unidentified flying objects seen over the past 70 years were secret Government experimental craft, according to an expert in the unexplained who researched the subject.
Author Mark Pilkington said agencies like the CIA in the USA were behind a huge double bluff, and were happy the public believed they were alien craft as it took the heat off the top-secret projects that were really going on.
The British author claims the strange craft sighted around the world really do exist – but they are not aliens.
Flying saucers and unidentified aircraft are actually secret technology being developed mostly by the US, he claims.
Mr Pilkington claimed a shadowy organisation he dubbed “mirage men” were behind the global double bluff, Dailystar.co.uk reports.
He has produced a new documentary of the same name he boasted exposes the truth behind UFOs.
He claimed the secrecy all started with the Roswell UFO mystery of July 1947.
In the early 1950s the US military was testing a lot of new technologies and it was convenient to disguise them as UFOs.
Mark Pilkington
Roswell has been at the heart of the UFO scene since in July 1947 the military sensationally announced in a press release it had found the remains of a crashed flying saucer in the desert nearby.
But the following day it retracted the statement, saying it was in fact a damaged US Air Force air balloon.
Witnesses later came forward to say there had been alien bodies within the "crashed craft", which along with the wreckage were then taken to a mysterious top-secret military base.
There have been claims and counter claims, including that the bodies were crash test dummies and it had been a top-secret balloon spying on the Russians.
All the confusion means it is one of the world's biggest conspiracy theories to this day.
Mr Pilkington claims Roswell is one of the “most famous examples” of the work of the mirage men.

UFO TRUTH? Flying saucers many not be flown by aliens after all.
He told Sputnik: "In the early 1950s the US military was testing a lot of new technologies and it was convenient to disguise them as UFOs.
"It was a double bluff."
Mr Pilkington added the US Air Force found people were more easily accepting of rumours about UFOs and aliens than any other explanation of the secret aircraft.
Mr Pilkington is not the first researcher to propose that some UFOs are secret spy craft, but he appears to be the first to suggest they all are.
Sprawled out over 3,000 square miles of Eastern California near the border with Nevada, in the United States, is the arid moonscape of Death Valley. With some of the highest land temperatures ever recorded on earth, this is a searing, parched, and forbidding land, a place that is at times seemingly as inhospitable and as some far away lifeless planet, and one well deserving of the name “Death Valley.” It a hostile environment, in a world unto its own, that one would not imagine to be inhabited by anything at all, let alone ghosts, but Death Valley certainly has its share of strange stories of the paranormal.
Many of the tales of ghostly occurrences in Death Valley revolve around certain places lying out in these badlands that have a dark history of death, and one of these is a long abandoned ghost town out in the middle of nowhere. In the early 1900s, this area of California was in the middle of a gold rush, with droves of miners from all over pouring through the unforgiving desert landscape on mad dash towards their dreams of gold and riches beyond their wildest dreams. To cater to these miners there were scattered camps built out in the harsh environment, and some of these evolved into small towns. One of these was the mining camp of Skidoo, which started as a humble hodgepodge of tents and shacks, but which by the height of its prosperity in 1907 had bloomed into a town of 700, complete with its own bank, saloon, general store, school, newspaper, and brothel.
Death Valley
In 1908 there was a deputy in town by the name of Joe Simson, also called “Hooch” due to his notorious and shameless consumption of alcohol. The story goes that he one day got hopelessly drunk and ordered a bank teller named Jim Arnold to hand over $20 for unclear reasons. At some point his gun went off, supposedly because he felt offended by Jim’s attitude, and killed the teller. Joe was soon arrested, but as he sat in jail he was forcefully rounded up by the enraged townsfolk, who had formed a roiling vigilante lynch mob, and hung the criminal up from a telephone pole, where they left his dead body swinging in the wind.
Apparently, after they finally took the body down and buried it a reporter from LA came through and they exhumed the corpse to hang up once again so that he could take a photo. One gruesome addition to the story and further violation of the corpse is that a local doctor wanted to test the body for any signs of syphilis, and rather than simply take a blood sample he had the whole head cut off to test that. Although Joe Simpson is long quite dead, he seems to have never really left Skidoo. It is reported that every year on the anniversary of the shooting a phantom gunshot can be heard to crack out over the dry desert air, followed by the disembodied shouting of a spectral mob, and Joe’s headless ghost is also said to roam about at night, especially near the location of the town’s cemetery. Although like most ghost towns in Death Valley Skidoo has crumbled to dusty abandoned ruins and deserted roads, it still brings in curiosity seekers and paranormal investigators hoping to see some sign of ghostly activity.
By far the most famous of Death Valley’s supposedly haunted hotels is the Amargosa Opera House and Hotel, located right out in the sun scorched wasteland at the tiny speck of a town called Death Valley Junction, which was once called Amargosa. The quaint little hotel is notable for its improbable location out in one of the harshest environments on earth, for being featured in the David Lynch film Lost Highway, and also for its alleged intense paranormal activity. The hotel itself was built by the Pacific Borax Mining Company in the 1920s, as a part of the burgeoning mining community there, and there was also established the Death Valley Railroad, which operated from Ryan, California to Death Valley Junction. The settlement of Amargosa began to boom, and became a sort of hub for the other outlying mining communities in the area, spurring the construction of the hotel. Originally called Corkhill Hall, the Spanish Colonial style building was envisioned as a hotel, theater, recreation hall, and office building all rolled into one to serve the steadily growing population.
The Amargosa Opera House and Hotel
In 1927 the mining company moved its headquarters, closed the railway line, and left the town to fend for itself, which it did by eking out an existence as a tourist destination. In 1967, an artist, singer, dancer, and actress by the name of Marta Becket and her husband came across the town after going there to seek repairs for a flat tire they had suffered out on the highway during a tour of the country. She soon became rather enamored of the historical architecture of the town, especially its Corkhill Hall, which her and her husband would end up renting and renaming the Amargosa Opera House. Considering that there were few customers to come and see her shows, Becket began painting audiences on the walls, made up of all manner of colorful figures, as well as a sprawling mural on the ceiling, and the theater began to turn into quite the curiosity. Becket has owned and operated the Amargosa Opera House and Hotel ever since.
More than this colorful history the hotel is more famous for being incredibly haunted, indeed often popping up on lists of the most haunted hotels in the country. There are several different apparitions and ghost infested sections of the hotel. One area that seems to experience some of the most intense activity is an area that was once used as miners’ quarters, as well as a hospital and morgue, called “spooky hollow.” Here visitors and staff alike report phantom smells and the presence of the ghostly apparitions of miners, still wearing their old fashioned attire and shambling about in the murk. Another notorious haunt is a building at the rear of the hotel that is supposedly haunted by the ghost of a little girl who drowned in the pool there. In the vicinity of this building can allegedly be heard a disembodied girl’s voice giggling, or conversely crying, and objects are seen to move on their own.
The opera house is also said to be haunted, with Becket saying that she has long had her performances interrupted by the appearance of a spectral cat, and the ghostly apparition of her former partner, Tom Willet is sometimes spotted sitting in one of the theater’s seats. Odd noises and whispering voices when no one is around, as well as shadows dancing on the stage are also common. The hotel’s dining room apparently has spectral dinner parties with laughter and the clinking of glasses from invisible guests, as well as the high pitched voice of a woman talking.
Amargosa Opera House and Hotel theater
Several of the rooms of the hotel are said to have persistent paranormal activity as well. In Room 9 guests have reported having their arms or feet held down as they sleep, the doors open and close on their own, and the creepy laughter of a child also sometimes materializes here. Room 24 is supposedly inhabited by the ghost of a girl who drowned in the bathtub, and she is known to leave mysterious wet footprints and to cry at night, as well as to turn the shower or faucet on or off. More sinister is room 32, which according to lore was the scene of a murder and in which there dwells a purportedly angry, malevolent presence known for pushing, shoving, and pervading the air with an unbearable sense of dread and foreboding. Other general strangeness reported from around the hotel and its grounds are phantom screams from nowhere, the sound of children’s footsteps running up stairs or down halls, roving cold spots, and even sightings of full entities in period clothing. There is also a phantom hitchhiker said to hand out along the nearby road and unlock vehicle doors to let himself in.
Another supposedly haunted hotel in Death Valley is the Furnace Creek Inn, also built by the borax mining company in its heyday, and which managed to remain open and popular even after the company pulled out of the area. The hotel is supposedly haunted by the ghost of a chef named James Marquez, who worked there from 1959 to 1973. Although he did not actually die at the hotel, his ghost is still said to sometimes show up for work, wandering around the kitchen and dining halls and startling guests and staff.
There are other haunted buildings in Death Valley as well, including a place that has come to be known as Scotty’s Castle. This mansion was built in 1922 as an opulent vacation home for the actor Walter Scott, who lived there with his beloved dog until he passed away in 1954. Both Scott and his dog were buried in the nearby foothills and it seems that they have never really left their dream home. The most widely reported strange phenomena here are the sounds of footsteps when no one is there, as well as the disembodied panting or barking of a dog and the feeling of having a dog brush up against one’s legs.
Scotty’s Castle, Death Valley
The spectral figure of Scott is often seen sitting in the fireplace room or standing on the grand staircase, where he will gaze at visitors before vanishing, and there are other reports of other less definable apparitions. It is also said that visitors are plagued by sudden panic attacks or inexplicable despair, as well as an itching, tingling sensation that persists until they leave the premises. Perhaps Scott does not like trespassers? The surrounding property itself is said to be prowled by a “satanic” looking humanoid creature with horns on its head that can be seen stalking about and peering out of the wilderness.
There is another unrelated story told by Scott’s friend Bill Keyes in the Dec. 21, 1907 issue of the The Bullfrog Miner. Keyes claimed that he had been out prospecting for gold near the town of Rhyolite when he stopped at a well-known desert oasis called “Tule Holes” to load up on water and camp out for the night. During the night he reported that he had heard all manner of eerie noises coming from the dark such as moaning and other less identifiable sounds, and he also spotted strange orbs of light bobbing about out in the desert, their light the only illumination out in the pitch black. Strangest of all, he reported that when he had finally gotten to sleep he had awoken to find that he was 500 feet away from his campsite, and that there were marks in the earth that suggested he had been dragged through the desert.
In more modern times there is the report of a bizarre encounter that was posted on Reddit and is really hard to classify. The witness claims that he was out dirt bike riding in the desert during an adventure trip to Death Valley in the summer of 2015 while on leave from being stationed in Africa in the Army. He says that he was trying to challenge himself out there in the hottest place on Earth at the hottest time of the year, and that the temperature at the time was 120 degrees, meaning that he had not seen anyone else out there all day. On this day he had been heading towards a place called Ubehebe Crater, and had only seen one car pass going the other way, and when evening came he stopped halfway between there and RaceTrack Playa to camp for the night.
Death Valley
He described the area as being very remote, only accessible through a small, unmaintained gravel road and dotted with desert scrub. During the night, the silence was allegedly broken by the unmistakable sound of children’s laughter and talking, which was startling as this had been the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere out in one of the most hazardous environments on earth. The witness estimated that they were perhaps 50 yards away, and he decided to call out to them. When he did, the laughter and talking briefly stopped before starting again. Now sure that what he was hearing was children playing around, the witness got his flashlight and headed out to investigate. He soon found what he was looking for in the form of two small children who were described as “walking, kind of wandering, looking lost, sounding lost.” Thinking that these children were perhaps in trouble, he called out to them again, and describes what happened next thus:
They stopped. They looked in my direction, but they were looking past me. In my direction, but not at me. Like they heard me but I wasn’t even there. I was illuminating them with a very bright flashlight. They should have been covering their faces but they were just scanning, like they were looking for me and just didn’t see me. They turned back, kept walking, and I just watched them not sure of what to do. Their noises and their images faded into the distance. I just sat there. I didn’t know what to think or what to do. It was just so bizarre. After a while I laid back down, and just relaxed until it started raining at about 5:30AM. That’s when I packed up in the darkness and continued with my adventure into the morning. So that’s what I saw. I saw children in Death Valley, over a hundred miles from freaking ANYTHING! Just walking, talking, wandering, then vanishing. Oddly enough it didn’t freak me out at the moment. I was more confused than anything. That’s why I couldn’t make a decision on what to do in that moment. Now, looking back, it’s freaky.
More bizarre still is a report relayed to me by a reader in relation to an article I wrote on Skinwalkers. The witness told me that when he was out on a hike in Death Valley he had paused to take in the sunset, which had been drawing near. He then said that he had noticed a figure off in the distance standing there in the desolate landscape looking as if they were enjoying the setting sun as well. It seemed to be a man dressed in what appeared to be some sort of Native America clothing, although he was not close enough to be sure. It was a bit odd, but nothing truly bizarre. At least not yet.
As the witness watched, he says that the mysterious figure began to walk across the desert, backlit by the deepening hues of the sunset painted sky, but then something changed. The figure, which had been bipedal, began to lope along on all fours, still looking like a man trying to mimic a quadrupedal animal, but very fast. The stranger picked up speed and its movements became smoother, more natural as it ran off, allegedly until the point that when it finally ran away it was described as being more like a coyote or wolf before disappearing into the desert. Skin walker or not, whatever he saw it is a strange account to be sure.
Why does this sprawling badlands of dust, dirt, and oppressive heat draw to itself so many stories of ghosts and phantoms? Is it some quality of the land itself? Does some power reside here that pulls in and imprisons these spirits? Is it just the bleak surroundings and the stifling, relentless heat that conspire to trick and disorient the mind? Whatever the reasons may or may not be, Death Valley seems to be a place imbued with mysteries both natural and supernatural, its landscape at once beautiful, lethal, and at times paranormal.
Incredible Sky Spectacle Over California Seen By Many People
Yesterday many people in California witnessed a bright object in the sky with a very bright wide beam of light shining back from the path of the object as seen by a resident of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. (89010).
People wonder whether it was a missile launch off along the OC Coast, California on December 22, 2017 or could it have been something else?
Here are some witness reports that have been submitted to the Mutual UFO Network.
Los Angeles, CA:
Riding in car and noticed an object leaving contrails. Suddenly contrails widened and then a spiraling object shot out a white circular light. There were 2 bright lights in sky and one object aimed a bright light at the other bright object. Contrail became a huge white cloud formed and remained visible for a long time and didn't move for a while. (89013).
Diamond BA, CA :
Wife called me outside, I saw the tail end of bright white-lighted object moving quickly in a southern direction leaving a clouded trail that seemed to glow white. Sun was down and moon not very bright at time of sighting. (89011).
San Diego, CA:
(Witness 1) - I was unloading groceries from my car at my parents house when I went back outside and looked up a super bright ball of light producing an aura that made the night sky look like the sun was rising in the cone shaped aura I then yelled for my wife who witnesses it with me I then we proceeded to run down the street to keep it in sight as it was descending after the orb was out of sight the effect of the aura remained I knew exactly what I was seeing as much as it scared me I felt excited and in awe. (89016)
Banning, CA:
Outside smoking a cigarette saw white cloud at night two large lights moving away at steady speed, went to street to have a full view then saw two objects that moved away at a steady speed but in different directions. (89012).
San Diego, CA:
(Witness 2) - I was in my home when family called and told me to go outside. It was extremely well lit. I thought it was a meteor, but it was too well lit and had a large tail. It had a slightly curved path with a smaller object launching off. (89009).
Indeed, it was spectacular to see and frightening to some. That incredible light show was caused by a SpaceX rocket launch out of Vandenberg Air Force Base near Lompoc, CA.
Note: In the first video you see an unknown bright object flying towards the SpaceX!
NASA has released more than 2,500 images of Mars, and I can’t stop staring
No seriously, these images are so beautiful it’s actually hard to not look at them for a few minutes straight.
The red planet has changed the way we think of Earth-like planets. In decades of research, we have drastically altered our view about Mars, as we have learned that our neighboring planet was once very similar to Earth, with ocean,s lakes, rivers, and an atmosphere. Altogether, Mars looked like Earth billions of years ago.
Today, only glimpses of it former beauty remain, but as NASA’s rovers and spacecraft continue exploring the surface of the red planet, the more we learn about it.
Despite the fact that we call it the red planet, Mars has shown us that its a treasure trove of alien colors.
Now, thanks to the HiRISE camera onboard NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter—MRO—we can explore the red planet like ever before.
More than 2500 images have recently been published by NASA that show Mars as never before. Its a planet that comes alive, it has strange alien shapes covering its surface, and its colors make it look as if it were Picasso’s masterpiece.
Mars is without a doubt an abstract piece of art, combining elements that make it a very unique planet, despite the fact that it was once much similar to Earth.
Contributed to our understanding of Mars, as it has snapped images in such detail that scientists were able to investigate the red planet’s features at the scale of a few feet. This has allowed experts to look at Mars from an entirely different point of view.
Dr. John Alexander and Nick Pope – UFO DoD Project Analysis from Former Government Insiders – Special Edition – December 22, 2017
Open Minds UFO Radio: Dr. John Alexander is a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, where he worked in intelligence and had participated in projects where they explored paranormal phenomena. He also formed a group of colleagues in intelligence to look for government UFO secrets. Since leaving the Army, John has worked at Los Alamos and is a defense consultant specializing in non-lethal weapons.
Nick Pope worked on the UK government’s UFO project in the Ministry of Defense in the 90s. He has since continued to offer his take on the UFO topic and consults with the UK government on UFOs in regards to media relations.
In this interview, we get insight from John and Nick into the recent news broken by The New York Times, with releases by Poltico and The Washington Post within hours, that the Department of Defense has had a secret UFO project since 2007. News outlets around the world are covering the story, and these guys are in high demand, so we are very lucky to have been able to speak with them. Outside of those directly involved, these are two of the most qualified to speak on this matter.
In light of the Dec. 16 bombshell disclosure articles by the New York Times, Politico and the Washington Postregarding the Pentagon’s Special Access Unit that is researching UFOs, a.k.a. Advanced Aviation Threats, my first thought is that it’s wonderful the Department of Defense has finally admitted that they been collecting data on UFOs for some time.
Is this THE news that the UFO community has been waiting for? Yes for most of the community. But the hardliners say “No!” They want to drink from a fire hose of information. They want a captured UFO craft presented on camera. They want the truth about Roswell and a shopping list of other questions to be answered.
Yet this disclosure is just what the world needed. We needed major newspapers to do a serious story about what the government has actually been doing. And we needed that story to start a national and global media conversation on the topic. This is what we got!
I watched with amusement as TV news commentators, who are used to making fun of the topic, struggled to ask deep questions and discuss the topic intelligently.
The other thing we needed was for a U.S. government organization like the Pentagon to admit they have been doing serious research into UFO events for years. So now the conversation has started, and let’s hope it’s positive and educational.
On another aspect, after the stories broke I heard a lot of people moaning about the wisdom of spending $22 million for UFO research. Isn’t that the Defense Department’s job, to study possible threats of all kinds and explore defensive remedies?
As a former staffer for an aerospace contractor, I decided to look at what our tax dollars probably purchased. First, a $22 million contract is modest in defense contracting terms. If I was tasked to do a budget and proposed staffing for a project like this, what follows is how the cost might break down.
The subcontract given to Bigelow Aerospace was for $22 million over five years. That amounts to an annual payout of $4.4 million per year. And that breaks down to a monthly billable budget of $366,666.67.
Corporate management and contracts management would take about 10 percent off the top to deal with the task of doing business, or about $36,666.67.
Down at the project management and personnel management level, I would expect another 5.5 percent to be given to management overhead, or about $18,333.33.
At the research and technical level I would expect the staffing of five Ph.D. scientists. This would account for another $62,500, or about 17.05 percent of the monthly budget.
The scientists would need a support team of eight staff engineers, with a budget of $66,660 per month, or about 18.18 percent.
To support the scientists and engineers, there would be a multilevel staff of technicians, administrators and research support personnel, perhaps 18 altogether, at a monthly budget of $90,000, or about 24.55 percent.
Of course, researching all these exotic UFO things requires physical overhead: special work facilities, utilities, IT services and of course a sizable physical and IT security support infrastructure. Let’s say the facilities overhead would ring in at $91,666.67, or another 25 percent of the monthly budget. The budget balances with a few dollars to spare.
My proposed budget projection is just an estimate using reasonable industry labor and burden rates. The staffing and budget are not unrealistic given the overall size of the contract. The question you must be asking yourself is. Was the money well spent?
New York Times reporter Ralph Blumenthal was interviewed on MSNBC on Monday, Dec. 18, and stated that the research was looking at “unknown compounds.” Digging back into the original New York Times article it indicated that Bigelow Aerospace in Las Vegas had specialized facilities “for the storage of metal alloys and other materials that Mr. Elizondo and program contractors said had been recovered from unidentified aerial phenomena.”
I’d say that’s money was well spent! Now if they would just share some more of the cool stuff it with the rest of us.
If you have a UFO sighting to report, use one of the two national database services: NUFORC.org or MUFON.com. Both services respect confidentiality.
The X-Files creator Chris Carter was directing the finale of the veteran sci-fi drama’s upcoming season when The New York Times published its startling scoop on Sunday that read like something straight out of his show: The government recently had a five-year secret program investigating UFOs. Moreover, some of those involved in the program who were interviewed are fairly convinced extraterrestrial life has visited Earth (“there is very compelling evidence that we may not be alone,” as one former Pentagon official put it). Plus, there was a video (below) released of an unidentifiable object sighting that was backed up by interviews with U.S. Navy pilots. And like the cliffhanger of a proper serialized sci-fi mystery, the reports stopped just shy of saying anything conclusive on the key question of whether intelligent extraterrestrial life exists.
Carter, who has been rather knee-deep in this subject matter for quite some time, wasn’t exactly surprised by the headlines. Below the writer-producer took a break from his directorial duties to chat exclusively with EW.com about this new truth which is now out there.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY:Obviously there were government UFO studies in the past, like Project Blue Book, which ended in 1970. But this must be surreal for you — after 25 years of telling an ongoing fictional story about a group within the government that secretly investigates UFOs … to find out there’s a group within the government that’s been secretly investigating UFOs.
CHRIS CARTER: Right, yeah, there have been projects before — Project Blue Book was a real thing. So while you call [the show’s basis] fiction, it wasn’t science fiction. Now that this story has come out, it is some validation. But I still say it’s being treated like it’s tabloid news.
You think news organizations aren’t taking the revelations as seriously as they deserve?
One of the problems is that until UFOs become IFOs [Identified Flying Objects], so to speak, people are going to take it all with some level of suspicion.
Still, the Times story was probably the closest I’ve seen a credible journalistic organization tiptoe up to saying “hey, aliens are real” without actually doing that. What were your thoughts reading the reports?
Well, when you see the Defense Department has a secret program that’s funded to the tune of $22 million dollars by politicians that are supposed to represent our public interest, and doing it in secret, you gotta report on these things. And when you have videotape of pilots looking at things that are undeniably unidentifiable, you have to report that as news.
You’ve always presented the show as entertainment but along the way did you ever hear of things backchannel that credibly suggested there might be some reality to UFO reports?
Yes. I visited the Pentagon several years ago and it was clear something else was going on there. I met with somebody whose job was part of a group that was roughly in the same area as described as the fifth floor of the C Ring [where the recent UFO project was run]. Their job is to think about the future and where the U.S. will be in the future, what its interests will be, and what they’ll need to defend — and everything had to do with space and off-planet. Without them actually saying “aliens,” there was a suggestion that they were more than earthbound researchers.
On this subject there are always two questions, right? Does intelligent extraterrestrial life exist? And if they do exist, have they ever visited Earth? What’s your take?
I’m a skeptic by nature. I’ve never seen a UFO. I’ve never seen an alien. But I’ve talked to way too many people I consider honest and credible who have. I just spoke to somebody in the last couple months who has seen [UFOs] twice in Mexico. And he says they move too fast and they are too otherworldly to call aircraft of this world.
I suppose another question moving forward is: Are we now caught up to speed on what the government knows about UFOs? Or is there more come beyond these reports?
The New York Times piece hinted that they actually have recovered materials. So when those facts might spill out, we might get material confirmation there’s something going on. Until that time, until we have credible scientists telling us this material is otherworldly, I think short of aliens visiting us, that will be the next revelation.
How would people react I wonder? I suspect a large percentage still wouldn’t believe it without a UFO landing in Central Park.
Yes. Imagine the impact on religion. On belief. You can throw so many things out. Certainly our anthropocentric view of the world.
You frequently use real-life news footage and headlines in the show. Will any of this make it into the new season?
This revelation is coming a bit late for this season. But this is something that’s been part of the series from the beginning. And in the last event series [in 2016] and in this one we touch on many things directly that are now being reported as news.
Do you mean there are things within last season and the new one that are part of these current reports that you had previously heard about?
Yes. I’ve attended conferences. People would consider them to be conspiracy-minded folk. But there’s idea that there’s a secret space program — which is another thing the Times piece hinted at — that NASA and this guy Robert Bigalow are working on space systems that might take people into outer space. Now why those programs are secret and are being pursued is of great interest to me and we touch on it this season. But I still think our first contact with something extra-planetary and microscopic and perhaps even lethal. Bioterrorism is something no one talks about when people talk about terrorism and that’s also something we dive into this season.
The X-Files returns to Fox for 10 new episodes starting Jan. 3.
I-Team: Pentagon UFO study catches attention of Congress
By: George Knapp
LAS VEGAS - Former Nevada Senator Harry Reid thinks it might be time to hold congressional hearings into the mystery surrounding UFOs.
In his only television interview, Reid told the I-Team about the pivotal role he played authorizing a secret Pentagon study of UFOs that ended five years ago.
The project was based in Nevada, carried out by Las Vegas businessman who is no stranger to paranormal investigations. In fact, Robert Bigelow's mysterious Skinwalker ranch played a role in the Pentagon investigation.
A picturesque ranch in northeastern Utah, shunned by its Native American neighbors and long considered a hotbed of UFO sightings and other unexplained phenomena, played a pivotal role in the creation of the once-secret Pentagon study of unknown aerial objects.
In the mid 90s, Las Vegas billionaire Robert Bigelow bought the property and sent in his research team, the National Institute for Discovery Science, or NIDS, to study the ranch and the larger Uintah Basin.
Over the next 10 years, NIDS scientists had dramatic encounters with the unknown, including daylight mutilations of livestock, mysterious aircraft, and discarnate entities.
"The ranch is not just UFOs. Performances of anomalies go back many years," said Robert Bigelow.
The I-Team's 2007 conversation with Bigelow, his first on camera interview on any subject, never aired but he told us that his NIDS team experienced more than 100 baffling encounters, though they had no idea what was behind it.
"And that we don't have to worry about aliens coming and taking us away. That's for somebody else to talk about," said former U.S. Senator Harry Reid.
When Senator Reid and colleagues authorized funding for a Pentagon study, they made a point of saying it was not a search for little green men. The primary aim was to identify, analyze, and eventually duplicate the other worldly technology that had been demonstrated in multiple dramatic encounters involving the U.S. military.
"The phenomenon is real," said Luis Elizondo, former Pentagon official.
The man who ran the Pentagon's study, Luis Elizondo, resigned in October and has since said the technology of these craft is beyond anything known on earth, but he declines to guess where it originates. No one involved wants to mention space aliens, for obvious reasons.
"I'm not into that," Reid said. "I'm interested in science, what's going on in our world."
Investigating the source of the UFOs is the 800-pound gorilla in the room. Although Bob Bigelow dissolved his NIDS team and ended the study of the Utah ranch, in 2007, a book written about the property caught the attention of the DIA and Senator Reid.
Bigelow's previous experience in putting together a team to investigate weird phenomena was likely a factor in the decision to award him the contract to study UFOs. And sources familiar with the study say, Pentagon investigators returned to the Utah ranch several times during a three-year period.
When the New York Times broke its story, it reported that Bigelow built a special secure facility at his aerospace plant to store unknown materials supposedly obtained during the UFO study.
"I don't know. I don't know anything about exotic materials, but a lot of talk about it," Reid said.
What he does know is that the explosion of news coverage about the UFO issue has caught the attention of Congress. Reid's phone started ringing immediately, he says, people from Congress and the business community who've always been interested in the subject but were afraid to admit it. Reid thinks the time may be right to re-launch a formal inquiry.
"Now that it's out, why shouldn't they do this? Reid said. "You take an airplane, the cost of one military airplane. The cheapest one we have. Give that money to this research. It's more important than one airplane. We have enough bombs and bullets to take care of us for a long time, but not enough to understand the future?"
In all, about $22 million was spent from 2007 through 2012 before the study formally ended.
Robert Bigelow no longer owns the Skinwalker Ranch. He sold it to another party last year.

The United States are not the only ones to pay attention to the unidentified flying objects. Between the end of the Second world War and the mid-1990s, the government of Canada has made consistent efforts to identify and investigate the reports made by the Canadians.
A New York Times article revealing the existence of a program of the u.s. department of Defense devoted to ufos, which would have ended in 2012, is making a lot of noise in the last few days. However, plunging into the archives of the canadian government, we see that, over the years, the interest of Ottawa for the unidentified flying objects was not less great.
Formally, the ministries of national Defence and of Transport, the royal Canadian mounted police (RCMP) and the national research Council of Canada are all busy or surveys or reports related to the appearance of ufos at one time or another between 1947 and 1995.
According to the influential ufologist canadian Chris Rutkowski, Canada cooperates with the United States in this area for decades, and it is likely that this collaboration continues still today.
Decades of analysis
The government of Canada has begun to collect information on unidentified flying objects in 1947. At this time, many Canadians who have the final world conflict in memory and a possible cold war in the head continue to turn their eyes to the sky, fearing an attack. The RCMP and the ministry of Defence will receive several reports from citizens saying they saw a ufo.
In 1952, the canadian government established project Second Story, which has the objective to analyse the evidence related to the appearance of flying saucers. The minutes of the first meetingof the committee responsible for this project indicates that ” the frequency and persistence of the sightings [of ufos] tend to cast doubt on the theory of hallucinations “. It adds further that greater efforts must be made to obtain the data in an organized manner and proceed to the investigation and analysis required.
In the same year, the american army launches the project Blue Book, which is expected to be completed in 1969. Over the years, its managers will be more than 12 600 reports, of which 701 remain unexplained.
At the end of the 1960s, the national research Council of Canada (NRC), which is the main research arm of the canadian government, becomes the drop point of the observation reports of ufos from the ministry of Defence, ministry of Transport and the RCMP. The NRC stopped collecting records in 1995.
More than 1000 reports
Since the mid-1990s, the government appears to have left the civilian sector care to list and analyze ufo reports. The ufologist Chris Rutkowski receives each year a handful of reports from various government agencies. “I suspect that there are other reports of ufos that were kept secret, but I don’t have access to it for the moment,” says the astronomer by training, who lives in Winnipeg.
Thanks to these reports made by the government and to the data compiled by enthusiasts of ufology of the four corners of Canada, Mr. Rutkowski product since 1989 an annual report accounting for all events reported in the country.
In 2016, 1131 events were reported, of which 38.5 % from Quebec. After they have been analyzed by a network of researchers, astronomers and specialists of the aviation, only 4 % of these reports remain unexplained, which represents the lowest percentage recorded in 28 years.
“Even if the vast majority of ufo reports are explainable, there is always a small percentage of events that remain unexplained. These reports do not mean that Canada has been visited by extraterrestrials, but they indicate that observations can not be explained and require further scientific studies, ” said Mr. Rutkowski.
What people believe to be a ufo, for example, can be the light of a plane, a drone or a satellite that enters the earth’s atmosphere. “The ufo reports are not all as mysterious as you might think,” insists the researcher. Contrary to some ufologists, this author of many books devoted to ufos remains prudent, therefore, without closing doors.
“Some people say that I am skeptical and, at the opposite, some say I am too a believer. I think it is important to keep an open mind, ” he said. My training in astronomy and he told me that there may be life elsewhere in the universe and that she could come to visit us. But we do not yet have the evidence. “
Canada and the ufos
1947 government agencies, including the department of national Defence, are beginning to amass information on ufos.
1952 The canadian government established project Second Story in order to analyze the testimonies reminiscent of the flying saucers.
1959-1960 The Canada and the United States to introduce a joint system of reporting on ufos.
1968 The national research Council of Canada (NRC), becomes the point of fall of the reports on the observation of ufos.
1995 The NRC cease to collect reports related to ufos, leaving place to the civilian sector.
On December 16, the New York Times publishedtwo stories that read almost like science fiction. For at least five years, the Defense Department housed a $22-million, clandestine program to investigate UFOs. Military pilots had sent in reports of objects they observed that moved in unfamiliar ways; the mission of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, as it was called, was to investigate those claims to see if there was truly something otherworldly behind those sightings.
It’s unclear just how many reports pilots had filed to the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, but people who have come forward about the program have made it clear that there would have been a lot more reports filed if it hadn’t been for one thing: stigma. “The sightings were not often reported up the military’s chain of command, [former senator Harry Reid] said, because service members were afraid they would be laughed at or stigmatized,” one Times piece reads.
American culture is steeped in depictions of what would happen if sophisticated aliens visited Earth, from E.T. to Arrival to Independence Day. Some are more hackneyed than others; some are downright terrifying. But outside the clear genres of fiction, most conversations about UFOs happen online, and with varying degrees of vehemence.
Let’s face it — believing in the paranormal has become shorthand for crazy.
“60 years of folklorization and Hollywood production have, in the minds of the general public, definitely trivialized the subject. It has become a ‘standard’ consumer product,” Jean-Christophe Doré, the technical manager for UFO-SCIENCE, the French association that aims to scientifically evaluate aspects of UFO phenomena, tells Futurism.
But to some, that association might be changing. Luis Elizondo, the military official formerly in charge of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, told The New York Times’ Daily podcast:
I think we’re entering an era of actual evidence. We’ve reached a moment of critical mass of credible witnesses, and these are witnesses that are in charge of multi-million-dollar weapon platforms with, in some cases, the highest level of security clearances and in some cases they’re trained observers. When these individuals are trying to report something, ‘Hey I saw this when I was flying,’ that can be turned around and people say ‘hey look if you’re crazy, there goes your flight status.’ Or all of a sudden commander so-and-so in charge of this very elite fighter wing will no longer be taken seriously. In fact, people are going to start to judge whether or not maybe our friend here might not be a little crazy, or maybe some loose screws. That’s always a threat to these people’s career. And let’s face it, these people have to pay their taxes, they have to pay their mortgages, they have families, they’re putting their kids through school. And frankly, they’re just really good patriots and they want to do the right thing. And that stigma is pretty powerful. It stops a lot of people from reporting something maybe they would normally report.
Government officials are no longer hiding their belief that extraterrestrials might be out there. Could this be a turning point for once-fringe communities and open doors for those looking to bring scientific rigor to the quest to understand UFOs?
Logical Fallacy
Most phenomena thought to be the doings of extraterrestrials are eventually explained. Take Project Blue Book, for example, the U.S. government’s program to investigate unidentified flying objects that ran from 1947 until 1969. Of the more than 12,000 reported sightings, investigators found out the real (not paranormal) story for all but 700 or so. That’s a pretty good percentage, says Joe Nickell, senior research fellow at the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry and paranormal investigator — about as much as you’d expect from any other scientific discipline. “A lot of these cases are never going to be solved because I don’t know what you think you saw 10 years ago. They’re not investigatable,” Nickell tells Futurism.
In other disciplines, a certain amount of uncertainty will mean that more studies are needed to definitely prove a link. But that’s not what happens with UFOs. “We spend all these years, virtually our entire lives (it’s what I’m doing with mine), and we’re solving most cases. We’re down to, say, 5 percent [that we can’t explain], and we’re arguing over the 5 percent,” Nickell says. You give someone a level-headed, thorough, earthly explanation for a particular report, and they’ll just respond, “But what about this other one?” This is, as Nickell points out, an argument from ignorance — in essence, X must be true because you can’t prove that X is false. “Why don’t we assume that, if we can explain 95 percent, that if we knew the answer, it would fall into the same category as the others?” Nickell says.
Belief in extraterrestrials is fueled by a lack of evidence, not its presence. For some people, that’s enough.
The Psychology Of Believers
More than half of Americans believe that aliens exist, according to a 2015 poll. Scientists have evaluated what distinguishes believers and non-believers and didn’t find much, the Conversation notes. But people that believe they had an abduction experience, perhaps a more extreme form of belief, are more likely to have fantasy-prone personalities, have experienced childhood trauma, or be prone to hypnosisthat can make them suggestible to false memories, studies have shown. That doesn’t mean they’re lying about their experiences — they often genuinely believe they happened — but those experiences were often not quite what the individuals thought they were.
What distinguishes people who believe in Big Foot, for example, from those who believe in UFOs? It’s the suspicion of government involvement, Nickell says. More peoplebelieve in conspiracies than ever; if someone were looking to find a black-ops government program and a conspiracy to keep it secret, they’d find the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program.
“I think, for most people who believe in these UFO claims, it’s tied up with conspiracy. If you want to believe that UFOs are visiting the planet, there kind of has to be a cover up,” Rob Brotherton, a psychology professor at Barnard College and the author of Suspicious Minds: Why We Believe Conspiracy Theories, tells Futurism. And because they’re built on secrecy, it’s really hard to disprove a conspiracy theory, Brotherton points out.
Conspiracy theories about UFOs, in particular, are pretty widespread, and they have a psychological appeal that goes against the stereotype of weirdos wearing tinfoil hats. Conspiracy theories rely on the same pattern-recognition techniques we use in our daily lives, and in science as well. “Conspiracy theories make for great stories, they’re tantalizing, mysteries not yet fully solved. Your brain is like, ‘What’s up with that?’ it’s not satisfied until it knows if these things are related.”
Most of the time, people who believe in them are psychologically normal. But the belief that the government or aliens are specifically pursuing you as an individual — a me and not an us focus —might indicate a psychiatric disorder like schizophrenia, though that would be one of a number of symptoms.
“It’s not impossible [that extraterrestrials are visiting Earth],” Brotherton says. “Maybe they’re technologically advanced, maybe they are able to make it here. That’s not beyond the realms of possibility; it doesn’t defy the laws of physics necessarily. It’s worth keeping an eye out for this stuff.”
Worthy of Pursuit
Science hinges on discovery and the pursuit to understand the unknown. It’s not out of the realm of possibility, then, that some of these UFO reports are worthy of rigorous investigation. They could reveal something new about atmospheric phenomena, or physics, or, yes, possibly even extraterrestrials.
It’s not easy to separate the mysterious sightings, the ones that could yield something scientifically interesting, from the sightings that can quickly be resolved. “These are, almost by definition, unusual things to start with, something in the sky that we don’t know what it is. We don’t see them every night. So we have no idea [at the beginning of an investigation] if they’re going to be productive or not,” Nickell says.
Despite these difficulties, some investigators are already bringing the rigor of science to examine UFO reports. Some, like Nickell, are hunting down witnesses and testing theories; others, like Chase Kloetzke, the deputy director of investigations at MUFON, the world’s oldest and largest UFO investigation group, are retrieving physical evidence and testing alloys of unknown metals with cutting-edge microscopes and trained metallurgists. A number of organizations receive private funding, which sometimes means they have fewer resources than they would if they received governments grants. And the work is often thankless. “I’m trying, in the name of science, to do what most scientists don’t have time to do, what they consider frivolous nonsense,” Nickell says. “UFOs have been looked into now by the tens of thousands, even by official government studies. And what do we have to show? Not a lot. How many more will we have to look into? I would say we will never be done. I’m in it for the long haul.”
To do these sorts of investigations, it’s irrelevant whether or not they believe that extraterrestrials have really visited Earth. All people need is a rigorous scientific mind, perseverance to investigate doggedly, and a sensitive nose for falsehoods.
Now that information about the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program has spilled out, it buoys those who hope that the government might have evidence that could more clearly indicate the presence of extraterrestrials, something that stands up to the rigor of scientific evaluation. “Do we have a smoking gun? We do, it’s just locked up,” Kloetzke, of MUFON, says referring to the “physical material [the government] has been holding and analyzing.” “We’re pushing down the doors. We’re trying to breach this information,” she says.
Still, opinions vary on how much evidence is enough to prove the existence of extraterrestrials. “I think most people are going to need a craft to land in Central Park [to believe UFOs are real],” Kloetzke says.
“There is absolutely no solid evidence that meets any standards of scientific ‘proof’ that UFOs exist. That’s why people can’t take it seriously,” Sara Seager, an astrophysicist at MIT who studies exoplanets and was quoted in the New York Timesarticle, tells Futurism. To some, in the end, evidence doesn’t matter. “I am not a UFO supporter in any way. It’s just like why do people believe in God? There’s no way to scientifically prove the existence of any God or gods. People just want to believe.”
Alien Invasion: What Would Aliens REALLY Want With The Earth?
Let’s put aside the questions as to whether or not we’ve been visited by aliens. Let’s ask a better question:Why would aliens visit us at all? Is there anything about Earth that makes us prone to an alien invasion?
An Alien Invasion has Occurred, But For What Reason?
While there’s plenty of talk of human-alien hybridization programs & plans to take over our government and make us slaves, do these ideas make any sense? I mean, if a far advanced alien race came here with the intent of making us slaves, they wouldn’t need to infiltrate our government to do so. They’d just… do it. They would just do it because they’re so advanced relative to us. So let’s explore the possibilities…
The Most Unlikely Scenarios for an Alien Invasion
The first 2 scenarios really have good reasons why they’re unlikely. While they’re popular with hardcore alien enthusiasts, many of which believe these things are happening now or have in the past, a step back to reality doesn’t support these ideas. The likely scenarios are much more insidious and dire for humans in the event of a true alien invasion.
#1 Gold Mining
Gold is a very rare metal. For thousands of years, humans have mined it. We work for it. We kill for it. Aliens want gold too.
The idea is a cornerstone for Ancient Alien theorists. They believe that aliens came to the earth in ancient times to mine gold. In their desire for gold, they genetically modified ancient apes to make them more intelligent. The theory states that modern-day humans, us, are those genetically modified apes. Aliens designed us to have love and desire for gold so that we would mine it for them by our own ‘choice’.
Truth be told, there isn’t much evidence in support of this theory. Everyone who reads this blog knows my stance on the Ancient Alien religion. It’s undeniable that humans have a love and obsession with gold. We also have a love and obsession with lots of pretty stones and shiny metals that aren’t gold.
The Reality – Gold isn’t THAT Rare
While gold is a rare metal by certain standards, there’s no reason to think Earth has more gold than other rocky planets. Gold can only be created during a supernova and any planets forming in the resulting cloud of heavy elements will have some gold on them. So does it really make sense that aliens would travel here specifically for gold? Probably not. The fact of the matter is that from the perspective of an interstellar species, gold isn’t that rare or hard to find.
Alien technology would be so great, they wouldn’t need human ‘slaves’ to mine gold for them. They’d have machines that can do it much faster. Additionally, there’s no reason why they would choose an inhabited planet to mine when there are so many uninhabited ones out there. If they did choose to mine an inhabited planet such as the Earth, they’d probably wipe out all life first so that they wouldn’t have to deal with all the ankle biting from the pesky humans.
#2 Hybridization for Their Dying Species
Another popular theory by alien-believers is that aliens are running a hybridization program. The theory postulates aliens are a dying species, abducting humans, and taking DNA to merge with their own in order to strengthen their own biology. Many people believe it’s already happening.
The Arguments for an Alien Hybridization Program
The proponents of the theory point to cases of alien abduction & cattle mutilations as evidence. Sightings of cryptids, such as the Chupacabra, are cited as examples of alien hybridization having gone wrong.
Additionally, many female abductees describe being artificially inseminated and forced to carry fetuses only to be abducted later and having it removed. Male abductees frequently describe having semen extracted from them by their alien abductors. Some folks claim to have had sexual encounters with extraterrestrials.
The Reality – You Don’t Need Much DNA for Hybridization
By far, the weakest part of the entire theory is that a little DNA goes a long way. A single human carries enough DNA information to hybridize an entire generation of extraterrestrials. Aside from the fact that many abduction cases can be dismissed as instances of sleep paralysis, continued abductions for 50+ years would be unnecessary.
It’s also worth noting that a species capable of interstellar travel would have learned how to genetically modify themselves without the need for samples from a relatively primordial species such as ourselves.
The Most Likely Scenarios for an Alien Invasion
This set of scenarios for an alien invasion take into account what science knows about intelligent life and how it behaves. Of course, we only have ourselves to look at, but you work with what you’ve got right? These scenarios which come from real scientists are much more disturbing than some of the fantasy stories tossed around by the ancient alien and conspiracy crowds.
#1 Their Own Earth-like Planet was Destroyed
What if aliens weren’t very different from us? What if they came from a planet just like ours in a neighboring solar system? Maybe their planet died or became uninhabitable, and the entire species took the skies looking for a new place to call home.
As a skeptic, this scenario for an alien invasion is mind blowing because it could actually happen. No planet lives forever. Our own Earth has gone through several mass extinction events and there’s no reason to think other planets would be any different.
We’d likely be powerless to stop it, and if our own history of exploration is any indication, it wouldn’t turn out very well for us humans. Think about what happened to the Native Americans when Europeans discovered the New World…
#2 Natural Resources that Support Carbon-Based Life
If there’s one thing more rare in the universe than gold and diamonds, it’s life. At least, life as we know it – carbon-based life. Life with all its associated proteins & fats is likely the rarest thing in the cosmos. We know this because we’ve looked around and not found it anywhere else.
Earth’s Natural Resources Would be a Figurative Goldmine
While it rains diamonds on Jupiter and Saturn, the compounds necessary to support carbon-based life are much rarer. Earth’s trees, plants, animals, & humans might be so rare in the universe that aliens could invade in order to use these sources of energy.
The rarity of life in the universe makes the Earth a prime candidate for aliens wishing to create a planetary zoo or to rule us. They could also potentially farm the life on Earth for food much as humans currently do.
#3 Dominance
It could simply be that a space-faring race may come to the earth simply to rule the population. Remember Superman 2? Political and social power can be addictive and satisfying to intelligent beings. The desire to rulemay even be a common trait of all intelligent species.
The Desire to Rule Depends on the Aliens
The culture of the aliens who happen to find us really determines the likelihood of this scenario. By all counts, it’s a true alien invasion of the type only seen in movies and cinema. The takeover could be quick and violent, or it could be slow and shadowy. Proponents say it’s already happening. They point to reports of reptilian aliens infiltrating our government and big corporations as evidence.
#4 They Might Be Looking for a Planetary Zoo
Zoos are pretty cool. Maybe aliens think so too? Perhaps aliens wouldn’t actually invade the earth as much as keeping it ‘caged up’ for observation.
Like the previous example, the planetary zoo is very possible. What’s really crazy? It might already be happening and we aren’t even aware of it.
#5 Food – Humans? Yummy!
There isn’t a single animal on this planet that humans won’t eat. We’ll eat anything except other humans (and there are even exceptions to that as well). Aliens might be the same way, especially if carbon-based life turns out to be a compatible food for their biology.
Based our own behavior towards other animals, this scenario is highly likely. Perhaps, it’s the most likely of all. And it’s utterly terrifying. With advanced intelligence and technology, humans would be raised as cattle scarcely aware of our true purpose. We might live out our lives without so much as a hint of our grisly ends at the hands of our alien farmers.
Other Reasons?
We can only guess at the motives of our potential alien invaders. Perhaps the alien invasion will have nothing to do with us at all, or maybe it will have everything to do with us. Regardless, if aliens ever do come to meet us with technology millions of years ahead of us, we won’t have much say in the matter anyway. And that’s the scariest part of the entire thing.
What do you think? Why would aliens invade the earth? Let us know below in the comments.
In what seems like a true space oddity, Elon Musk supposedly plans to send his own original cherry Tesla Roadster to a space odyssey to Mars. Photos of a red Roadster sitting on a payload fitting have since surfaced online and on Musk's Instagram. But are they for real?
A PAYLOAD FIT FOR MARS?
In September, SpaceX CEO and founder Elon Musk spoke at the 2017 International Astronautical Congress about his updated plans for Mars. According to the revamped plan’s timetable, SpaceX will send at least two unmanned cargo flights to the Red Planet by 2022, with a manned mission following by 2024.
Earlier this December, Musk tweeted that the payload for SpaceX’s inaugural trip to Mars would be his own original Tesla Roadster. He hinted at his reasoning for choosing the Roadster in another tweet: “I love the thought of a car drifting apparently endlessly through space and perhaps being discovered by an alien race millions of years in the future.” In another post, Musk even promised to show photos soon.
Though most originally assumed this was a joke, speculation grew when a photo posted in a SpaceX subreddit in the late hours of December 21. The photo appears to show a Tesla Roadster sitting on top of what looks like a SpaceX payload attachment.
The image made rounds in a NASA Spaceflight forum, where users tried to make sense of the plan by creating scaled images of the Roadster inside a SpaceX fairing.
Then, midday on December 22, Musk ramped things up another notch, posting seven photos to Instagram that appear to show the real deal. As promised, the photos show a cherry-red Tesla roadster ready to be encased within (we assume) a brand-new Falcon Heavy rocket.
SPACEX ODDITIES
While the payload might seem crazy, in typical Musk fashion, there is a reason behind it. As Musk explained in his Instagram post, test flights for new rockets usually contain concrete or steel blocks in order to simulate the mass they’ll carry during flight. In the case of the Falcon Heavy’s inaugural flight, Musk writes that this “seemed extremely boring.”
“Of course, anything boring is terrible, especially companies, so we decided to send something unusual, something that made us feel,” he writes. “The payload will be an original Tesla Roadster, playing Space Oddity, on a billion year elliptic Mars orbit.”
It makes sense not to load a rocket’s inaugural flight with expensive electronics and science equipment; as SpaceX knows well, it’s not uncommon for rockets to experience errors or even blow up during test flights. However, given the cost of a Roadster and the growing problem of space junk around our planet, one might question the wastefulness of the planned test.
Of course, it’s also wise to take Musk’s posts with a grain of salt, since he’s known to randomly joke around on social media. His most recent pranks include tweeting what people thought was his personal mobile number, which turned out to be a an easter egg from the God of War video game, as well as April Fools’ tweets about chemtrails as messages from non-English speaking aliens. Musk’s latest images certainly look legitimate, and supposedly, sources have told Electrek that the plan is as real as it can get. But observers of his antics have learned to be skeptical.
Futurism has reached out to SpaceX for comment, and will update this post with any response we receive.
So, is Musk sending a Tesla Roadster — and his own original car, even — to Mars? We’ll believe it when we see it.
Police in Thunder Bay, Ontario received several calls last week after residents heard and felt a large explosion overheard that was strong enough to rattle their homes. One resident even reported seeing a bright flash overhead at the time of the boom. As police searched the surrounding area, they found an unexplained crater in the snow beside Highway 61. Fragments of rock were found in the crater, leading some scientists to believe that the crater might have been caused by a small meteorite left in the wake of last week’s Geminid Meteor shower.
Not quite a dinosaur killer.
Stephen Kissin, a geology professor at the nearby Lakehead University, told the local Thunder Bay News Watch that while the mysterious crater could have been caused by a small meteorite fragment, the rock which fell into the Earth’s atmosphere was most certainly much scarier:
It was almost certainly larger than what we saw here because of the loud detonation and the shockwaves people reported. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who did see it. It was, however, over a sparsely populated area and late at night, and a cold night as well, so perhaps people weren’t about.
Because Thunder Bay sits on the shore of Lake Superior, it’s likely that any larger fragments could have ended up in the water. The smaller samples which were collected are being analyzed under electron microscopes in an attempt to determine their composition and origin, but the tests are complicated by the fact that gravel and other roadside debris is mixed in with the potential meteorite fragments found in the crater.
Some of the samples believed to be fragments of the meteorite.
In a somewhat similar story, several drivers in Newfoundland recently got the shock of their lives when “unidentified objects” smashed their windshields and windows while they were driving. The incidents were all several miles apart in different townships. Could these be further fragments of a meteor which exploded over central and eastern Canada? It’s possible. Given the many unexplained booms and fireballs in the sky which have increasingly common phenomena in 2017, is it time to wonder if the threat from near-Earth objects has become much more serious than we are being told? The U.S. government has recently begun preparing an emergency response plan for the event of possible strikes, while NASA is testing methods of redirecting potentially dangerous asteroids and meteorites. What’s really going on overhead? Do we really want to know? One thing is certain: Santa Claus better keep an eye out next week. He could be in for a bumpy sleigh ride.
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s an interstellar space ship! It’s …
Astronomers and SETI researchers studying Oumuamua, the mysterious cigar-shaped interstellar object that looped tightly around the Sun recently, think they’ve solved the mystery of what it really is. Ladies and gentlemen, Oumuamua is a …
Not so fast. We may in danger just talking or reading about Oumuamua. That’s a warning put forth by Nick Pope, former head of Britain’s Ministry of Defence UFO project, in SunOnline.
“If this ship is an alien probe, it’s possible that our scans will awake the intelligence inside.”
Pope is referring to the Breakthrough Listen project led by Stephen Hawking which has been using high-tech scanners to listen for signs of life or any kind of non-asteroidal noises coming from Oumuamua. It’s found nothing as of this writing, but Pope thinks it’s because they‘re listening for the wrong thing.
“Because there’s no air in space, an alien spaceship wouldn’t need to be designed in the same way that our aircraft have to be. Rather than building an interstellar spacecraft from scratch, it makes perfect sense to take an asteroid and then build your ship around it, or hollow it out and build inside it, for the protection you’d derive from being surrounded by so much rock.”
Whoa! That sounds plausible, especially coming from such a UFO expert. However, some astronomers observing Oumuamua disagree. In a paper published this week in the journal Nature Astronomy, professor Alan Fitzsimmons from the Queen’s University Belfast agrees with Pope that Oumuamua is not what it appears to be, but he doesn’t think it’s a spaceship. In an interview with Space.com, he says he also doesn’t think it’s an asteroid.
“We didn’t see any signs of typical spectroscopic signatures that you would expect from the minerals on the surface of an asteroid we see in our solar system. It rather seems to resemble the [icy] objects that are there in the outer solar system. That kind of got our head scratching. If the object had, originally at least, ice in it, what’s happened to it?”
A non-crusty comet
What happened was, like humans on trips that last much longer than expected, Oumuamua got crusty. Modeling its behavior, the astronomers determined that Oumuamua’s actions indicated it had an icy center surrounded by a thin crust. That sounds like an ice cream-and-cake dessert treat, but what it actually might be is a comet hidden inside a 20-inch-thick crust that protects its icy center from melting and prevents it from having a comet’s tail.
Fitzsimmons received support in his hypothesis from astronomer Michelle Bannister, a colleague at Queens University, who, in a separate paper to be published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters, said this:
“We’ve discovered that this is a planetesimal with a well-baked crust that looks a lot like the tiniest worlds in the outer regions of our solar system.”
Today’s word is “planetesimal,” which means “a minute planet; a body that could or did come together with many others under gravitation to form a planet.”
Planetesimals
So Oumuamua is likely to be a crusty comet (a great name for a band) from another solar system.
And after leaving pop punk band Blink-182 to focus on exploring unexplained phenomena full-time, DeLonge is ready to share that truth — that aliens exist, that UFOs aren't actually “unidentified” and that extraterrestrial technology could save humanity — with the rest of the world.
As the founder of To the Stars Academy of Arts & Science, DeLonge is working with former high-ranking officials from the Department of Defense, CIA, NSA and Lockheed Martin's “Skunk Works” aerospace program.
One of DeLonge's partners is Luis Elizondo, who ran the Pentagon's top-secret UFO investigation program that the New York Times revealed in a bombshell report Saturday.

(TO THE STARS ACADEMY OF ARTS & SCIENCE)
According to DeLonge, disclosures like Saturday's report are “only the tip of the spear,” and further “confirmation” of extraterrestrial life will continue to trickle out.
DeLonge claims the U.S. government has not only known about the existence of alien life for decades, but that they've also been actively experimenting with alien technologies.
And while this information has largely been hidden from the general public, DeLonge wants to lead what he believes will be an international - and perhaps, one day, intergalactic — conversation about how these soon-to-be-declassified technologies can benefit mankind.

“I know that it's fun to make snarky comments, but this isn't the kind of thing to joke about,” DeLonge told the Daily News earlier this month. “This is going to really affect a lot of people and a lot of peoples' belief systems.”
The organization has three divisions — aerospace, science and entertainment — and will attempt to “bring transformative science and engineering out of the shadows” free from “the restrictions of government priorities.”
DeLonge wants To the Stars to be owned by the public, which is why the company is relying on crowdfunding to launch. So far, To the Stars has raised over $2.1 million from more than 2,200 individual investors.
To the Stars Academy of Arts & Science launched in October.
(TO THE STARS ACADEMY OF ARTS & SCIENCE)
“What we're trying to do is make sure the story of the millennia and the technology of the millennia are owned by the people from day one,” Delonge said. "Part of our strategy has always been to throw it all out in the open so people can't come and try to shut it down from some weird office at NATO or the United Nations or the United States or whatever."
DeLonge hopes that To the Stars will use previously classified information about alien technologies to achieve breakthroughs that government agencies like NASA have been uninterested in exploring.
One such innovation is what DeLonge refers to as “engineering the space-time metric,” which is being developed by Dr. Hal Puthoff, a longtime government physicist and a current To the Stars partner.
“It's like a time machine,” DeLonge said. “You get into this craft and you turn it on — boom! — you're in China in one minute as a ball of light.”

Other To the Stars projects will seek to revolutionize human space travel, combat climate change, improve national security, enhance genetics, harness telepathy and more.
“All the things (people have) heard about and seen are the first step of 20," DeLonge said. “There's a lot more s--t coming.”

The Balochistan Sphinx Temple Platform with steps, pillars, niches and a symmetric pattern.
Concealed within the desolate, rocky landscape of the Makran coastline of Southern Balochistan, Pakistan, is an architectural gem that has gone unnoticed and unexplored for centuries. The ‘Balochistan Sphinx’, as it is popularly called, came into the public eye only after the Makran Coastal Highway opened in 2004, linking Karachi with the port town of Gwadar on the Makran coast.1 A four-hour, 240-kilometer-long drive through meandering mountain passes and arid valleys from Karachi brings travellers to Hingol National Park, where the Balochistan Sphinx is located.
It is a four-hour drive from Karachi to the Hingol National Park, along the Makran Coastal Highway. The Balochistan Sphinx is located inside Hingol National Park.
The Balochistan Sphinx is routinely passed off by journalists as a natural formation, although no archaeological survey appears to have been conducted on the site.2 If we explore the features of the structure, as well as its surrounding complex, it becomes difficult to accept the oft-repeated premise that it has been shaped by natural forces. Rather, the site looks like a gigantic, rock-cut, architectural complex.
A cursory glance at the impressive sculpture shows the Sphinx to have a well-defined jawline, and clearly discernible facial features such as eyes, nose, and mouth, which are placed in seemingly perfect proportion to each other.
The Sphinx appears to be decked up in a head-dress that closely resembles the Nemes head-dress of the Egyptian pharaoh. The Nemes headdress is a striped head-cloth that covers the crown and back of the head. It has two large, conspicuous, flaps which hang down behind the ears and in front of the shoulders. The ear-flaps can be discerned on the Balochistan Sphinx, as well as some stripe marks. The Sphinx has a horizontal groove across its forehead, which corresponds to the pharaonic headband that holds the Nemes headdress in place.
One can easily make out the contours of the reclining forelegs of the Sphinx, which terminate in very well-defined paws. It is difficult to see how nature could have carved out a statue that resembles a well-known mythical animal to such an astonishingly accurate degree.
The Balochistan Sphinx resembles the Egyptian sphinxes in many respects.
The Sphinx-Temple
In close proximity to the Balochistan Sphinx is another important structure. From a distance, it looks like a Hindu Temple (like those of South India), with a Mandapa(entrance hall) and a Vimana (temple spire). The top part of the Vimana appears to be missing. The Sphinx is reclining in front of the temple, acting as protector of the sacred site.
The Balochistan Sphinx reclines in front of a temple-like structure.
In ancient, sacred architecture, the sphinx performed a protective function, and was generally placed in a pair on either side of entrances to temples, tombs, and sacred monuments. In ancient Egypt, the sphinx had the body of a lion, but its head could be that of a man (Androsphinx), a ram (Criosphinx) or a falcon (Hierocosphinx).3 The Great Sphinx of Giza, for instance, acts as guardian of the Pyramid Complex.
In Greece, the sphinx had the head of a woman, the wings of an eagle, the body of a lioness, and according to some, the tail of a serpent.4 The colossal statue of the Sphinx of Naxos stood on a towering ionic column, at the sacred Oracle of Delphi, acting as a protector of the site.
In Indian art and sculpture, the sphinx is known as purusha-mriga (‘man-beast’ in Sanskrit), and its primary position was near the temple gateway, acting as a guardian of the sanctuary.5 However, sphinxes were sculpted all over the temple premises including the entrance gates (gopuram), halls (mandapa) and near the central shrine (garba–griha). Raja Deekshithar identified 3 basic forms of the Indian sphinx:
A crouching sphinx with a human face, but with certain lion characteristics like mane and elongated ears
A striding or jumping sphinx with a fully human face
A half-upright or fully-upright sphinx, sometimes with moustaches and long beards, often in an act of worshipping a Shiva-linga.6
Sphinxes also feature in Buddhist architecture of Southeast Asia. In Myanmar, they are called Manusiha (from the Sanskrit manu-simha, meaning man-lion). They are depicted in a cat-like crouching posture at the corners of Buddhist stupas. They wear a tapering crown and ornamental ear-flaps, and have feathered wings attached to their front limbs.7
So, throughout the ancient world, the sphinx acted as a protector of sacred places. Perhaps not coincidentally, the Sphinx of Balochistan also appears to be guarding the temple-like structure adjacent to it. This suggests that the site was laid out in accordance with the principles of sacred architecture.
A closer look at the Balochistan Sphinx-Temple reveals clear evidence of pillars carved on a boundary wall. The temple entrance is visible behind a large pile-up of sediment or termite mounds. An elevated, sculpted, structure to the left of the entrance could be a subsidiary shrine. Overall, there can be little doubt that this a massive, man-made, rock-cut monument of great antiquity.
The Balochistan Sphinx-Temple shows clear signs of being a man-made, rock-cut temple.
Interestingly, there seems to be two monumental sculptures carved on the façade of the Sphinx-Temple, right above the entrance, on either side.
The carvings are heavily eroded, making their identification difficult; but it looks as if the figure on the left could be Kartikeya (Skanda/Murugan) holding his spear (vel); and the figure on the right, a striding Ganesha. Incidentally, both Kartikeya and Ganesha are sons of Shiva, meaning that the temple complex could have been dedicated to Shiva.
While identification at this stage is speculative, the presence of sculpted figures on the façade gives greater weight to this being a man-made structure.
The façade carvings on the Balochistan Sphinx-Temple could be that of Kartikeya and Ganesha.
The structure of the Sphinx-Temple suggests that it may actually be a Gopuram, i.e. the entrance tower of a temple. Like the Sphinx-Temple, gopurams are generally flat-topped. Gopurams have a row of ornamental kalasams (stone or metal pots) arranged on top. From careful study of the flat-topped Sphinx-Temple, one can discern a number of ‘spikes’ on top, which could be a row of kalasams, covered with sediment or termite mounds.
Gopurams are attached to the boundary wall of a temple, and the Sphinx-Temple appears to be contiguous with the outer boundary. Gopurams also feature giant sculpted figures of dvarapalas, i.e. door guardians; and as we have noted, the Sphinx-Temple appears to have two monumental figures carved on its façade, just above the entrance, which serve as the dvarapalas.
The Balochistan Sphinx-Temple could be a gopuram, i.e. an entrance tower of a temple.
An elevated structure to the left of the Sphinx-Temple could be another gopuram. This implies that there could be four gopurams in the cardinal directions leading to a central courtyard, where the main shrine of the temple complex was built (which cannot be seen in the photograph). This kind of temple architecture is quite common in South Indian Temples.
The elevated platform on which the Sphinx and Temple are situated appears to have been elaborately carved with pillars, niches, and a symmetrical pattern that extends across the entire upper part of the platform. Some of the niches may well be doors that lead to chambers and halls under the Sphinx-Temple. It is believed by many, including mainstream Egyptologists like Mark Lehner, that there could be chambers and passages under the Great Sphinx of Giza as well. It is also interesting to note that the Balochistan Sphinx and the Sphinx-Temple are situated on an elevated platform, just as the Sphinx and the Pyramids of Egypt are built on the Giza plateau overlooking the city of Cairo.
Another conspicuous feature of this site is a series of steps leading to the elevated platform. The steps appear to be evenly spaced, and of uniform height. The entire site gives the impression of a grand, rock-cut, architectural complex, which has been eroded by the elements, and covered by layers of sediment, masking the more intricate details of the sculptures.
The Balochistan Sphinx-Temple Platform can be made out to have been carved with steps, pillars, niches and a symmetrical pattern.
Site Sedimentation
What could have deposited so much sediment on the site? The Makran coast of Balochistan is a seismically active zone, which frequently produces enormous tsunamis that obliterate entire villages. It has been reported that the earthquake of November 28 1945, with its epicentre off the coast of Makran, caused a tsunami with waves reaching as high as 13m in some places.8
Additionally, a number of mud volcanoes are strewn along the Makran coastline, some of which are located in the Hingol National Park, near the Hingol river delta.9Intense earthquake activity triggers the volcanoes to erupt, spewing staggering amounts of mud, and drowning the surrounding landscape. Sometimes, mud volcano islands appear off the coast of Makran, in the Arabian Sea, which are dissipated by wave action within a year.10 The combined action of tsunamis, mud volcanoes and termite mounds may, therefore, be responsible for the build-up of sediment on the site.
An elaborate Indian temple complex on the Makran coast should not come as a surprise, for Makran had always been regarded by the Arab chroniclers as ‘the frontier of al-Hind.11 A-Biruni wrote that, “the coast of al-Hind begins with Tiz, the capital of Makran, and from there extends in a south-eastern direction….”12 Though the sovereignty of parts of the region alternated between Indian and Persian kings from very early times, it retained “an Indianised identity all along”.13 In the decades preceding the Muslim raids, Makran was under the dominion of a dynasty of Hindu kings, who had their capital at Alor in Sind.14
The term ‘Makran’ is sometimes taken to be a corruption of the Persian Maki-Khoran, meaning ‘fish-eaters’. But it is also thought that the name derives from a Dravidian toponymic ‘Makara’.15 When the Chinese pilgrim Hiuen Tsang visited Makran in the 7th century AD, he noted the script that was in use in Makran to be “much the same as that of India,” but the spoken language to have “differed a little from that of India”.16 Historian Andre Wink writes:
The same chiefdom of Armadil is referred to by Hiuen Tsang as ‘O-tien-p’o-chi-lo’, located at the high road running through Makran. He also describes it as predominantly Buddhist; thinly populated though it was, it had no less than 80 Buddhist convents with about 5000 monks. In effect at eighteen kilometres northwest of Las Bela at Gandakahar, near the ruins of an ancient town are the caves of Gondrani, and as their constructions show these caves were undoubtedly Buddhist. Traveling through the Kij valley further west (then under the government of Persia) Hiuen Tsang saw some 100 Buddhist monasteries and 6000 priests. He also saw several hundred Deva temples in this part of Makran, and in the town of Su-nu li-chi-shi-fa-lo – which is probably Qasrqand- he saw a temple of Maheshvara Deva, richly adorned and sculptured. There is thus very wide extension of Indian cultural forms in Makran in the seventh century, even in the period when it fell under Persian sovereignty. By comparison, in more recent times the last place of Hindu pilgrimage in Makran was Hinglaj, 256 km west of present day Karachi, in Las Bela.17
Thus, according to the accounts of Hiuen Tsang, the Makran coast was – even in the 7th century AD – dotted with hundreds of Buddhist monasteries and caves, as well as several hundred Hindu Temples, including a richly sculpted temple of Lord Shiva.
What happened to these caves, temples, and monasteries of the Makran coast? Why have they not been restored and brought into the public eye? Are they suffering the same fate as the Sphinx-Temple Complex? Probably so. Eroded by the elements and covered with sediment, these ancient monuments have either been entirely forgotten or are being passed off as natural formations.
Indeed, close to the Balochistan Sphinx, on top of an elevated platform, are the remnants of what appears to be another ancient Hindu-like temple, complete with the Mandapa, Shikhara (Vimana), pillars and niches.
An ancient Temple of Makran, with Vimana, Mandapa, pillars and niches.
How Old Are These Temples?
The Indus Valley Civilisation extended along the Makran coastline, and its westernmost archaeological site is known as the Sutkagen Dor, near the Iranian border. Some of the temples and rock-cut sculptures of the region, including the Sphinx-Temple Complex, could, therefore, have been built thousands of years ago, during the Indus Period (c. 3000 BCE), or earlier. It is possible that the site was built in phases, and that some of the structures are extremely old, and others comparatively recent. Dating rock-cut monuments is, however, difficult in the absence of inscriptions. If the site contains readable inscriptions that can be interpreted (another tricky proposition, since the Indus script has not yet yielded its secrets), then it may be possible to put a date on some of the monuments. In the absence of inscriptions, scientists will have to rely on datable artefacts/human remains, architectural styles, geological erosion patterns, and other clues, however.
One of the persistent mysteries of the Indian Civilisation is the profusion of exquisite rock-cut temples and monuments that were built from the 3rd century BCE onwards. How did the skills and techniques for building these sacred places of worship appear without a corresponding period of evolution? The rock-cut monuments of the Makran coastline may provide much-needed continuity between the architectural forms and techniques of the Indus period and the later-day Indian civilisation. It may have been on the mountains of the Makran coast that the Indus artisans honed and perfected their skills, which were later transported to the Indian civilisation.
The Indus Valley Civilisation included sites located along the Makran coast.

Undoubtedly, there is a virtual treasure trove of archaeological wonders waiting to be discovered on the Makran coast of Balochistan. Unfortunately, these magnificent monuments, whose origins go back to unknown antiquity, continue to languish in isolation, thanks to the appalling level of apathy towards them. It appears that little attempt has been made to acknowledge or restore them, and the journalists routinely pass them off as ‘natural formations’. The situation can only be salvaged if international attention is drawn to these structures, and teams of archaeologists (as well as independent enthusiasts) from around the globe visit these enigmatic monuments to research, restore, and promote them.
The importance of these ancient monuments of the Makran coast can hardly be overstated. They could be of great antiquity, and provide us with important clues to uncover humanity’s mysterious past.

Strange iridescent clouds change shape “Bodhisattva” over sacred Buddhist site Mount Wutai
Mount Wutai is a sacred Buddhist site at the headwaters of the Qingshui in Shanxi Province, China. Its central area is surrounded by a cluster of flat-topped peaks roughly corresponding to the cardinal directions. The north peak (Beitai Ding or Yedou Feng) is the highest (3,061 m or 10,043 ft) and is also the highest point in northern China.
Wutai was the first of the mountains to be identified and is often referred to as "first among the four great mountains". It was identified on the basis of a passage in the Avataṃsaka Sūtra, which describes the abodes of many bodhisattvas (enlightened beings).
The bodhisattva is believed to frequently appear on the mountain, taking the form of ordinary pilgrims, monks or other figures most often depicted in unusual five-colored clouds.
Now, this happened on December 19, 2017 when very strange iridescent five-colored clouds appeared in the sky over the sacred Buddhist site.
Then the clouds start to float, change shape, until they take the form of what looks like a bodhisattva.
Some skeptics claim that the story about the bodhisattva is a myth, but after seeing the next video, maybe they will change their minds.

Amazing UFO video filmed over Ft. Collins, Colorado
New footage of a bright saucer-shaped UFO over Ft. Collins, Colorado. Filmed on 15th August 2017.
Witness report:
I drive a truck from Colorado to Wyoming four times a week. I take a break returning from Wyoming usually at this same spot, Hwy 287 at Ted’s Place. I took a short nap and when I awoke I saw multiple craft in the valley in front of me. I grabbed my phone and tried to get pictures but it was too dark and the camera kept shutting off. I pulled out a digital camera and it kept shutting off, after about five tries I started recording the video. The same craft were there every night for weeks but seemed to move west toward the mountain.I believe they were searching for something. The sightings were a about the same time every morning. There were many craft from real small to larger like the one in the video.
UFO SHOCK: British MoD ‘misled Parliament over UFOs’, ex-insider says
EXCLUSIVE: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has refused to deny claims it misled Parliament over research it was conducting into the existence of aliens and UFOs.
NO COMMENT: The MoD has failed to deny it misled parliament over UFO interest.
Express.co.uk asked the ministry to respond to claims made by a former officer who investigated the phenomena for the department until 2009.
Nick Pope, who worked in the MoD division responsible for looking at the potential threat to the UK from UFOs, spoke out after it emerged the US Department of Defense ran a secret study into the threat of UFOs from 2007 to 2012.
Mr Pope told Express.co.uk: “It's an extraordinary revelation, not least because it directly contradicts the many specific denials that the US government has issued previously when asked about this subject, and their involvement in it.
"It precisely reflects my own experience of this intriguing but frustrating subject, with the British Government.
LAS VEGAS - The existence of the UFO study was first reported by the I-Team back in October. That's when a high-ranking intelligence officer in charge of the program quit to take a job with a private company.
Over the weekend, news of Harry Reid's role in the study surfaced in news reports. The senator gave his only on camera interview to the I-Team's George Knapp.
Harry Reid's interest in UFOs dates back to 1989 because that is when George Knapp first had conversations with him on the topic.
In the years since, Reid quietly collected more information, met with scientists, intelligence officials, and other experts, and finally authorized a study that was carried out by a company created by a Las Vegas billionaire.
Since the story broke on Saturday, Reid has been bombarded with media requests, but he gave his only on camera interview to the I-Team.
The release this weekend of videos recorded by military pilots is unusual because, officially, the U.S. government stopped collecting information about UFOs back in 1969, when the Air Force canceled Project Blue Book. But in the decades since, pilots and others continued to encounter technology that is beyond anything known on earth.
"If China, Russia, Japan, other countries are doing this and we're not, then something is wrong because if the technology, as described and the way people see this movement took place in anything we have available to us, it would kill everybody. They couldn't withstand the G-forces. something sitting there, whom, down it goes," says former U.S. Senator Harry Reid.
His interest in UFOs extends back to the 1980s. It was rekindled in the 90s when Reid spoke to senator and former astronaut John Glenn about unknown aerial objects. Reid eventually met in a secure room in the U.S. capitol to ask Senators Daniel Inouye and Ted Stevens if they would authorize funds for a quiet but serious study of UFOs. Both agreed.
I-Team Reporter George Knapp: "Are you glad the story is out?"
Harry Reid: "I'm very glad, because now we have scientific evidence."
Reid says he is proud to have had a hand in kickstarting the Pentagon study, and contrary to some media reports, the information collected was impressive.
"For nearly the next decade, I ran sensitive aerospace identification program focusing on unidentified aerial technologies, it was in this position that I learned the phenomena is indeed real," says Luis Elizondo, To The Stars Academy.
Until three months ago, Elizondo worked directly for the secretary of defense and was the Pentagon's point man for collection of data about mysterious encounters. When he announced in October that he'd been in charge of a 10-year UFO study, the news was largely ignored by mainstream media. Now, it has blossomed into a huge story, in part because Reid acknowledges his own role in getting the funds approved.
"Even though this was a secure program,we wanted to make sure people couldn't complain about it that it was some sweetheart deal. No, it was put out to bid," Reid says.
The contract was posted for months. The winning bid came from Las Vegas space entrepreneur Robert Bigelow, a billionaire who had funded his own UFO studies for years. Bigelow built secure facilities inside his aerospace company.
At its peak, the study had 46 scientists working at the Nevada facility, writing reports and analyzing data that came in from the military. Rapid response teams were dispatched to the scene of UFO events. Over five years, the project cost a total of 22 million. it wasn't a money maker for Bigelow.
"I'm sure the reason it helped is that he gave the best cost. He was willing to build the infrastructure and build everything on his own because he liked the topic," Reid says.
In some news stories about the UFO study, anonymous staffers say Reid stopped supporting the study because it produced no solid information.
So, why did the study end? Reid and others involved in the project say one factor is that intelligence officials were petrified that someone would find out about it and it would end up on the front page of a newspaper.
And there were other officials who had religious objections.
The I-Team will have more exclusive content Wednesday, including specifics on what was learned during the study, and which UFO incidents were the most unusual.
Groen licht
Earlier this month, a skyscraper-sized space rock arrived in our solar system, sparking claims it was a spacecraft sent by extraterrestrials.
And while initial scans suggest it is unlikely to have been sent by aliens, we shouldn't rule this out as an option, according to a leading UFO expert.
Nick Pope, former head of the Ministry of Defence's UFO project, claims that the scans may have 'awoken the intelligence inside,' and aliens may now be watching our every move.

Earlier this month, a skyscraper-sized space rock floated into our solar system, sparking claims that it was a spacecraft sent by extraterrestrials. And while initial scans suggest it is unlikely to have been sent by aliens, we shouldn't rule this out as an option, according to a UFO expert
OUMUAMUA
A cigar-shaped comet named 'Oumuamua sailed past Earth last month and is the first interstellar object seen in the solar system.
It was first spotted by a telescope in Hawaii on 19 October, and was observed 34 separate times in the following week.
Travelling at 44 kilometres per second (27 miles per second), the comet is headed away from the Earth and Sun on its way out of the solar system.
The comet is up to one-quarter mile (400 meters) long and highly-elongated - perhaps 10 times as long as it is wide.
That aspect ratio is greater than that of any asteroid or comet observed in our solar system to date.
But the comet's slightly red hue — specifically pale pink — and varying brightness are remarkably similar to objects in our own solar system.
The rock, called 'Oumuamua, soared through our solar system last month.
Scientists led by Professor Stephen Hawking, in a project called Breakthrough Listen, even used high-tech scanners to discover if the object was sent by an alien civilisation - although they also couldn't find any evidence of this.
Speaking toSun Online, Mr Pope claims that this doesn't rule out the option that Oumuamua was sent by aliens.
He said: 'While nothing has been found yet, there's another intriguing possibility: If this ship is an alien probe, it's possible that our scans will awake the intelligence inside.'
While initial readings taken by Breakthrough Listen indicate that Oumuamua isn't an alien spacecraft, Mr Pope suggests the scientists may have been looking for the wrong thing.
He said: 'Because there's no air in space, an alien spaceship wouldn't need to be designed in the same way that our aircraft have to be.
'Rather than building an interstellar spacecraft from scratch, it makes perfect sense to take an asteroid and then build your ship around it, or hollow it out and build inside it, for the protection you'd derive from being surrounded by so much rock.'
And Mr Pope claims that Oumuamua isn't the only object we should worry about.
Scientists led by Professor Stephen Hawking, in a programme called Breakthrough Listen, used high-tech scanners to discover if the object was sent by an alien civilisation - although they also couldn't find any evidence of this
WHERE DID IT COME FROM?
Most comets follow ellipse-shaped orbits around the sun.
But this comet appears to orbit at an angle, and doesn't circle the sun.
Its orbital path suggests it entered our solar system from the direction of the constellation Lyra, looped around the sun, and will never return.
But others have suggested that the comet did come from Earth, but interacted with Jupiter or another planet, which changed its orbit.
'But what's fascinating about this theory is just how many astronomers and other scientists are taking the idea seriously.
'It's a sign of how accepting we are these days about the likelihood of finding alien life.'
While aliens are often seen as a topic only discussed by conspiracy theorists, governements are starting to take the idea more seriously.
Last week it was even revealed that the Pentagon had been conducting research into UFOs.

Mr Pope said: 'It's an extraordinary revelation, not least because it directly contradicts the many specific denials that the US government has issued previously when asked about this subject and their involvement in it.
'The take-home message here is that there's probably something out there, but we don't know what it is.'
While initial readings taken by Breakthrough Listen indicate that Oumuamua isn't an alien spacecraft, Mr Pope suggests the scientists may have been looking for the wrong thing
If aliens do find us, it's not good news for civilisation as we know it, according to Mr Pope.
He added: 'Humanity probably wouldn't survive an alien invasion.
'Any aliens that find us (as opposed to us finding them) probably have technology way in advance of anything we have.'
HONDERDEN GETUIGEN ZIEN UFO BOVEN MEXICO STAD ( VIDEO )
Any mention of the mysterious locale that is Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk, England inevitably conjures up strange and surreal images of the famous UFO landing within the forest in the latter part of December 1980 – a startling event witnessed by numerous United States Air Force personnel stationed at a nearby military base: Royal Air Force Bentwaters. The bizarre affair has been the subject of a considerable number of books, numerous televisions shows, several investigations by military and governmental bodies, and unrelenting debate. Reports of strange lights, of small alien-like creatures seen deep within the heart of the woods, and of high-level cover-ups and sinister conspiracies, are all key ingredients of the case that – for many – has become known as the “British Roswell.”
Almost forty years on, the events in question continue to provoke intense debate and controversy, with some believing that extraterrestrials really did land on British soil on that fateful night. Others hold the view that everything can be attributed to mistaken identity (of a lighthouse, no less…). Others prefer the theory that a dark and dubious military experiment, and subsequent mishap, may have been to blame for all of the fuss. Whatever the truth of the affair, the debate continues to rage. And, doubtless, it will continue to rage for many more years to come.
Rendlesham Forest covers an area that is around 1,500 hectares in size and can be found in Suffolk’s coastal belt known as the Sandlings. It is comprised of large, coniferous trees, as well as heath land and wet land areas; and is home to the badger, the fox, the red deer, the roe deer and the fallow deer. According to some people, however, Rendlesham Forest is home to far stranger things, too.
In his authoritative book Explore Phantom Black Dogs, Bob Trubshaw recorded that: “The folklore of phantom black dogs is known throughout the British Isles. From the Black Shuck of East Anglia to the Mauthe Dhoog of the Isle of Man there are tales of huge spectral hounds ‘darker than the night sky’ with eyes ‘glowing red as burning coal.’ The phantom black dog of British and Irish folklore, which often forewarns of death, is part of a world-wide belief that dogs are sensitive to spirits and the approach of death, and keep watch over the dead and dying. North European and Scandinavian myths dating back to the Iron Age depict dogs as corpse eaters and the guardians of the roads to hell. Medieval folklore includes a variety of ‘Devil dogs’ and spectral hounds.”
Although the image that the phantom black dog creates is one of a deadly and devilish beast that prowled the villages and towns of old England centuries ago, it is a little known fact outside of students of the phenomenon that occasional sightings of such creatures continue to surface to this very day – and from deep within Rendlesham Forest, no less. On a cold winter’s afternoon in 1983, for example, the soon-to-be-married Paul and Jane Jennings were blissfully strolling through the woods of Rendlesham when they were terrified by the sudden manifestation in front of them of what Jane would describe succinctly as “a big black dog.” She elaborated that the pair had been walking along a pathway when, on rounding a bend, they came face to face with the phantom beast – something that prompted Jane to intriguingly add: “It was almost like it was waiting for us.”
Reportedly, the beast’s head was clearly canine in appearance, albeit much larger than that of any normal dog. Yet, somewhat curiously, its body seemed to exhibit characteristics that were distinctly feline-like in nature. For a brief and tense moment girlfriend and boyfriend stared at the creature, which, they recalled, seemed to have an eerily mournful expression upon its face. Far more shocking, however, was what happened next. Suddenly, the beast began to flicker on and off for four or five times, then finally vanished, literally, before the Jennings’ eyes amid an overwhelming smell that reminded the pair of burning metal. Not surprisingly, the terrified couple fled for the safety of their car and quickly left the area.
Rendlesham Forest, as well as the Suffolk locales of West Wratting and Balsham, is reportedly home to an even more diabolical beast than the phantom black dog. It is a creature that has come to be known locally as the Shug-Monkey. Described as being a bizarre combination of giant dog and large ape, the creature is said to strike deep terror into the hearts of those souls unfortunate enough to cross its path – which is something that the late Sam Holland attested to. Shortly after New Year’s Day in 1956, Holland was walking through the woods with his spaniel dog, Harry, when he was horrified to see a bizarre-looking creature come looming out of the trees some forty feet in front of him. It walked upon four huge, muscular legs – “like a lion’s” – and its thick fur coat was both black and glossy. Incredibly, said Holland, the animal was easily ten feet in length; and so could not be considered anything even remotely resembling a domestic animal, or a known wild beast of the British Isles.
Holland recalled thinking for a moment that perhaps the animal was an exotic big cat that had escaped from a zoo or private estate; that is until it turned in his direction and he was finally able to see its terrible face. Likening it to that of a sliver-back gorilla, Holland said that the monstrous creature possessed a huge neck, widely flaring nostrils, and immense, powerful-looking jaws. For a moment or two, the animal looked intently at Holland and his whimpering little dog; then, seemingly losing interest, continued on its way and into the depths of the surrounding undergrowth. Holland would later explain that the creature looked like a strange combination of ape, dog, lion and rhinoceros. Needless to say, the British Isles is not home to any such animal that even remotely resembles the beast that Sam Holland says he stumbled upon. Yet he is adamant that his description of the monstrous entity and his recollections of the day in question are utterly accurate. Holland believed that whatever it was that he had the misfortune to run into half a century ago, it was unquestionably paranormal rather than physical in origin. But from where, precisely, he had no idea.
Rendlesham has also been the site of several intriguing encounters with what have become known as “Alien Big Cats”- or ABC’s. The infamous beast of Bodmin is perhaps more well-known than its Suffolk-based cousins; however, the reports that have surfaced from in and around Rendlesham Forest are certainly no less provocative in nature. One of the earliest, credible cases on record is that of Jimmy Freeman, whose close encounter with a big cat occurred while driving past Rendlesham Forest late one night in the mid-1970s. While the precise date has been lost to the inevitable fog of time, the details are as fresh in the mind of Freeman today as they were on the night the incident occurred.
Given the fact that the encounter had occurred around 11.15 to 11.30 on what was a dark, cloudy and slightly misty night, Freeman was driving slowly and had his lights on full-beam as he negotiated the dark and winding roads. As a result, when something large and shadowy charged across the road in front of him, Freeman could not fail to see the creature for what it was. Long, sleek and utterly black in color, Freeman is in no doubt that for a split second or two he had a brief sighting of a huge cat. Today, he says firmly: “If I live to be a hundred, I will tell the same: Rendlesham Forest has big cats.”
On an eerily similar path, in October 2003, it was reported that a woman named June Fooks, of Eyck, near Woodbridge – which is on the doorstep of Rendlesham Forest – had seen “a black feline” in her garden that was “bigger than her pet Labrador.” She recalled: “It all happened in a matter of seconds, but I got a really good look at it. The sun was setting, and it was shining right on it. It had a really shiny coat and a big tail. It saw me and then slinked off into the hedge.” Interestingly, it transpired that a neighbor of June Fooks – Anne Downing – had seen a similar creature in Rendlesham Forest around eighteen months previously. She explained: “I was coming along a pathway with my daughter and saw this black animal in the distance. It was almost in a pouncing position and, when we got too near, it simply fled into the bush.”
It is ironic that those who are skeptical of the Rendlesham Forest UFO case of December 1980 suggest that the airmen who were involved merely mistook the illumination from the nearby Orford Lighthouse for something more exotic. Why? Well, Orford itself is a veritable hotbed of weirdness and wild creatures. Consider, for example, the following account of Ralph of Coggershall. Recorded in the year 1200 in Chronicon Anglicanum, it describes the remarkable capture in the area of a wild-man-of-the-woods-style creature:
“In the time of King Henry II, when Bartholomew de Glanville was in charge of the castle at Orford, it happened that some fishermen fishing in the sea there caught in their nets a Wildman. He was naked and was like a man in all his members, covered with hair and with a long shaggy beard. He eagerly ate whatever was brought to him, but if it was raw he pressed it between his hands until all the juice was expelled. He would no talk, even when tortured and hung up by his feet, Brought into church, he showed no sign of reverence or belief. He sought his bed at sunset and always remained there until sunrise. He was allowed to go into the sea, strongly guarded with three lines of nets, but he dived under the nets and came up again and again. Eventually he came back of his own free will. But later on he escaped and was never seen again.”
As all of the above demonstrates, while Rendlesham Forest is most associated with the UFO-themed events of December 1980, when you look closer you see that the forest has been a hotbed of weirdness for not just years or decades, but for centuries. One of John Keel’s “window areas,” perhaps.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (which is looking more and more like a good idea lately, actually), you’ve likely heard or read about the recent disclosure of a U.S. government-funded program to study anomalous or otherwise unidentified flying objects. Whether or not the news is groundbreaking evidence of a UFO cover-up is up for debate, but it certainly reveals that there are many people in world governments (or at least funded by them) who do take the study of unexplained aerial phenomena seriously. Are these merely the pet projects of some of the more curious politicians and their well-connected corporate cronies, or does this news reflect a widespread global belief in intelligent life elsewhere in the universe?
After you learn the truth about Santa Claus, what else is there to believe in?
According to new worldwide data, the majority of humankind does indeed believe in extraterrestrial life in some form. International market research firm Glocalities recently conducted the largest study of its kind in which individuals from twenty-four countries were asked about their beliefs concerning alien life. 61% of people in the survey reported that they believe there is some form of life out there in the cosmos, while 47% said they believe in intelligent alien life specifically. Another 25% reported believing that life on Earth came from elsewhere in the universe, and only 17% reported ruling out the possibility of alien life altogether. Silly non-believers. Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Mexican, and Romanian citizens were found to be the most likely to believe in intelligent alien civilizations, while Dutch, Indonesian and Turkish citizens were found to be the least likely. Mexico, the United States, China, India, and Australia had some of the highest percentages of belief in any alien life, intelligent or otherwise
A heat map showing national percentages of citizens who believe in aliens worldwide.
According to Martijn Lampert, Research Director at Glocalities, these beliefs stem from recent advances in exoplanet discoveries and are reflected in the popularity of modern science fiction:
The high score on the belief in the existence of extraterrestrial life and the typical values profile of believers in intelligent alien civilizations partly explains the immense popularity of space opera movies such as Star Wars. The fascination with the mysteries of the universe offers mankind a never ending story to research, develop and experience.
Lampert says he believes that the high number of people who believe shows that a future discovery of alien life will cause the majority of humankind to “become more and more engaged in the debate about the future of humanity and the place of planet Earth in the universe.” That sentiment is echoed by another recent study which found that most individuals would gladly welcome extraterrestrial visitors as opposed to being terrified of or repulsed by them. I don’t know about you, though, but I’m investing in pitchforks and torches. Humans are a scared and predictable lot. Those first alien visitors better bring some serious defenses.
Footage of incredible fast cigar-shaped UFO flying over farm animals in Rigby, Idaho
A weird cigar-shaped object has been caught on camera by a visitor to farm animals in Rigby, Idaho.
Visitor farm animals’ who has reported the sighting to the Mutual UFO Network, case 88945, states: Well my story is pretty simple but very interesting. On July 9, 2017 we went to see our farm animals. They are in a different location than our home. I decided to film this event. Anyways, the time I was filming, I didn't see or notice anything weird.
It wasn't until a week or so later when I replayed the movie and discovered an object going incredibly fast. I thought it might be a glare or some sort of issue with my phone camera. My phone was basically 100% new at the time, so I realized that wasn't an issue.
The object was moving so fast, I barely even noticed it in the movie playback. My eye seemed to catch it. It lasted for a brief second and vanished.
I managed to stop the video and made a GIF image of it in slow motion.
When I zoom in on it, I can see what appear to be antennas. This object was going far too fast to be man-made, but slow enough to be caught on camera.
When I seen this object, I mainly was surprised that I caught a UFO on camera. I do have the original video clip.
Multiple residents reported an amalgamation of lights was hovering in the night sky on Monday. The congregation of lights took several different forms, according to Phoenix resident Mat Siltala.
"When I first saw (the lights), they were V-shaped," Siltala said. "By the time I grabbed my camera and started shooting, it was more of a hook or candy-cane shape."
Siltala's long-exposure photograph showed the lights on an upwards trajectory, which brought him to believe the lights were not something out of this world.
"They were moving super slow and kept going higher and higher, which led me to think they were balloons holding lights or lanterns with lights," he said.
Others who snapped pictures of the nighttime event had no idea what to call it.
EJ Helzer said the lights displayed an erratic behavior.
"Honestly it's hard to say exactly what they were, but they were higher than a commercial airline that was flying by last night," he said.
Helzer, a Queen Creek resident, described the movement of the lights as "fluid."

"Some got very bright, dimmed down to nothing and then came back bright as can be," he said.
Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration said he didn't receive any reports of unusual activity over Valley skies Monday night.
Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport didn't report any calls or reports of strange happenings in the area, according to Communications Director Ryan Smith.
"We didn't give any clearance for drones, and if someone is launching something into the sky, they typically let us know," Smith said.
Lindsey Pappas, spokeswoman for Intel, a California-based technology company with two branches in Arizona, said the company had no drones in the sky on Monday night, as suspected by several posters on Reddit.
This isn't Arizona's first encounter with unexplained, airborne anomalies. The "Phoenix Lights" of 1997 is still a topic of conversation anytime someone sees something out of the ordinary in the sky.
Whether alien-craft, lanterns or meteorites, unidentified lights will always add fuel to the conversation that we are not alone in the universe.
The sighting in Queen Creek, combined with the revelations recently delivered by former Navy Pilot David Fravor, have to be exciting for those who want to believe that the truth is out there.

Advanced alien probes could be watching our every move, warns former MoD UFO investigator
Nick Pope, who used to run the Ministry of Defence's UFO project, believes hyper-intelligent ETs may have already clocked our backwards little planet, and they could be watching our every move
EXCLUSIVE
By George Harrison
MANKIND has long had an obsession with looking out for aliens... but what if they find us first?
Nick Pope, who used to run the Ministry of Defence's UFO project, believes hyper-intelligent ETs may have already clocked our backwards little planet - and they could be watching our every move.µ
Former MoD man Nick Pope believes that aliens may already be observing our species
The UFO buff spoke to the Sun Online after alien hunters got all worked up about Oumuamua, a cigar-shaped asteroid that some scientists thought could be an alien spaceship.
Because of its unusual shape, researchers even scanned the 400-metre asteroid for alien tech.
And although the scans didn't flag any signs of life, Nick thinks we can't rule out the idea that our planet is being watched by more advanced beings.
He said: "While nothing has been found yet, there's another intriguing possibility: If this ship is an alien probe, it's possible that our scans will awake the intelligence inside."

A long, thin asteroid, shown here as an artist's impression, has caused excitement among alien hunters
Some argue that this intelligence could take the form of either biological life or hyper-advanced AI, sent from deep space to keep an eye on our primitive world.
Nick added: "Simply put, any alien ship searching for life may go into a dormant mode until it gets close to an inhabited planet.
"But what's fascinating about this theory is just how many astronomers and other scientists are taking the idea seriously.
"It's a sign of how accepting we are these days about the likelihood of finding alien life"

Even the Pentagon has been looking into the possibilities of finding alien life
Nick says the recent news about the Pentagon's UFO search is huge, proving governments are taking the idea of extraterrestrial life more seriously than they often let on.
He said: "It's an extraordinary revelation, not least because it directly contradicts the many specific denials that the US government has issued previously when asked about this subject and their involvement in it."
"The take-home message here is that there's probably something out there, but we don't know what it is."

Scientists have now scanned the suspicious asteroid, finding no signs of alien tech onboard
At the same time, Oumuamua has been causing so much hype among UFO hunters because of its odd shape, which is far smaller than most asteroids.
Nick argues that asteroids such as Oumuamua could serve as alien probes or ships in disguise, taking a very different look to the traditional disc-shaped craft we've seen in sci-fi films such as District 9.
He said: "Because there's no air in space, an alien spaceship wouldn't need to be designed in the same way that our aircraft have to be.
"Rather than building an interstellar spacecraft from scratch, it makes perfect sense to take an asteroid and then build your ship around it, or hollow it out and build inside it, for the protection you'd derive from being surrounded by so much rock."
HANDOUT
Films like District 9 depict a disc-shaped craft, but a ship's shape wouldn't actually matter in the vacuum of space
What could alien tech look like?
Nick Pope argues that alien tech may be so advanced that we mistake it for magic.
He predicts that the possibilities include:
Faster-than-light travel
Ways of controlling the weather
Invisibility
Teleportation
Anti-gravity technology
Medical tech to make them live forever
Artificial intelligence
The ability to download human consciousness into a machine or into the internet
Planet-destroying weapons
This means that probes could be disguised among the comets we regularly see shooting through the solar system, making it possible that our species could have been watched from the very beginning.
And - given the age of the galaxy - earlier alien civilisations could have had a multi-billion-year head start to evolve technology so advanced we'd think it was magic.
Nick said: "This is one reason why humanity probably wouldn't survive an alien invasion.
"Any aliens that find us (as opposed to us finding them) probably have technology way in advance of anything we have."
KOBAL COLLECTION
Aliens that find us first will probably have devastating technological powers, like in The War of the Worlds
We've been bringing you all the news about the search for ET.
Recently, we shared the news that the Pentagon had secretly funded a £16 million investigation into the existence of UFOs and aliens.
Dragonfly, which will use a “drone-like rotorcraft” — sort of a space helicopter that parachutes down to the surface — to study the prebiotic chemistry and potential habitability of various locations on Titan, Saturn’s largest moon.
CAESAR, “a mission to return a sample from the nucleus of a comet,” in the words of NASA.
Both will receive $4 million to work on their idea, and in 2019, NASA will choose one to build. The winning project could get up to $1 billion in funding from NASA and will launch sometime in the mid 2020s.

Why the Dragonfly Mission Could Be Big ForAstrobiology
Between the two finalists, the Dragonfly mission could be particularly big for astrobiologists. NASA describes it as “a drone-like rotorcraft that would explore the prebiotic chemistry and habitability of dozens of sites on Saturn’s moon Titan,” which, yes, means it would be looking for signs of life. The lead investigator is Elizabeth Turtle from the Johns Hopkins University Applied PhysicsLaboratory (APL).
The plan is for Dragonfly to “hop” hundreds of kilometers from a particular spot on Titan, once a day every Titan day, which is equivalent to once every 16 Earth days. Hypothetically, Dragonfly would do this for about two years, taking various measurements along the moon’s surface.
“Titan is an ocean world, and the only moon in our Solar System with a dense atmosphere, which supports an Earth-like hydrological cycle of methane clouds, rain, and liquid flowing across the surface to fill lakes and seas,” the Dragonfly researchers write on their site about the mission. “The abundant complex organic material accessible on Titan’s surface makes it an ideal destination to study the conditions necessary for the habitability of an extraterrestrial environment and the kinds of chemical interactions that occurred before life developed on Earth.”
Some Hope For Enceladus
It’s also worth noting that one of the two concepts chosen to “receive technology development funds” is Enceladus Life Signatures and Habitability (ELSAH), which seems to focus on finding biosignatures on Saturn’s strangest moon. According to a press release from NASA, the mission seeks to “develop cost-effective techniques that limit spacecraft contamination and thereby enable life detection measurements on cost-capped missions.” As we know from NASA’s Cassini mission, Enceladus and its subterranean ocean seem to have all the right ingredients to harbor life.
No matter what these projects find, one thing’s for sure: They already have a better shot at finding signs of life than politicians.

Since the Pentagon confirmed the existence of a top-secret UFO-hunting program, internet denizens have been trying to piece together the puzzle of this cheap X-Files reboot, starring Harry Reid and Robert Bigelow, apparently.
In a follow-up to the big story, theNew York Timespublished a first-hand account oftwo Navy airmenwho claim to have seen a rapidly accelerating, flying object they couldn’t explain, one night back in 2004 while flying Navy F/A-18F fighter jets near San Diego.
“It accelerated like nothing I’ve ever seen,” Commander David Fravor told the Times of what he thought was a flying object in the sky. Some of what they saw has been published in a video that the Pentagon’s UFO search division studied for research, or, whatever.
But an astronomer tells Inverse what the airman more likely saw that night:
“Typically, the explanation is that the thing they are looking at is much closer or much farther than they thought, or is a reflection of some kind,” Jonathan McDowell, astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, tells Inverse.
McDowell makes clear that he hasn’t reviewed the case, though, but says this is what many “UFO sightings” turn out to be. Just a mere reflection.
Jonathan McDowell: History says the "UFO" two Navy airman saw was probably a mere reflection of something else.
It’d also help experts understand what happened if the Pentagon declassified more information about the AATIP, or Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP). The few details made public obviously don’t reveal any aliens. But what’s arguably more disturbing is they show how former Democratic Senator from Nevada Harry Reid was able to get $22 million in taxpayer money to give to his billionaire friend Robert Bigelow — a true believer in aliens — and his aerospace company. The money was for “research,” which included interviewing people who claimed to have had encounters with extraterrestrial objects.
For context, Bigelow has publicly claimed that aliens have visited us, because, sure.
“Internal reviews of classified data may not have the right mix of people for this,” McDowell explains. “Better to open all the data and let skeptics bash away.”
Robert Bigelow on '60 Minutes'
Researchers at the SETI Institute in California and METI International are both working toward contacting extraterrestrial life in different ways. If the government wants to find aliens so badly, they should just pay astronomers and astrobiologists. The concept isn’t rocket science.

Technology of the Gods: Ancient Flying Machines of India, the powerful Vimana
One of my favorite subjects in history are the countless accounts we find of Gods flying around in mighty vehicles.
Accounts of beings, coming down from the heavens in what are described as powerful technological machines, that produce fear-inducing sound, while making the ground shake like a million Earthquake and spitting fire are descriptions that many of us would attribute to rocket or space shuttle launches and/or landings.
To us, this is nothing unusual, as we live in a modern-era where rocketry is a well-known subject.
Every once in a while, we witness a new launch taking place, and we see how mighty spaceships take off from Earth, “spitting fire, producing fear-inducing sounds, making the ground tremble.” We know that these machines are not the vehicle of the Gods, they are just some of the many vehicles created by mankind.
However, if we were to travel back in time 2,000 or 3,000 years and witness the same thing, how would we react?
Imagine yourself seeing a reusable rocket land for the first time ever 3,000 years ago. What would you say? What would you do?
Image witnessing, for the first time ever, a MASSIVE machine, spitting fire, producing smoke and terrible noise, while making the ground beneath your feet shake. Would you not say it must be the Gods? Because until that moment, you’ve never seen anything like that. You were unaware of technology beyond sticks and stones. Such an event must have been life-changing for anyone witnessing it.
Were the ancient vimana really powerful ancient alien spaceships?
Well curiously, similar accounts can be found all across the planet where ancient civilizations witnessed how the Gods came down from heaven, riding ‘dragons’ which spit fire and smoke or mighty chariots, that could sail across the sky.
Thousands of years ago, people faced forces beyond their control and understanding: hence, mankind produced a mythology based different gods.
In ancient times, it was universally accepted that human civilization was a gift from the gods.
Whether you look in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Israel, Greece, Scandinavia, Great Britain, India, China, Africa, America or elsewhere, most ancient cultures believed that the gods brought them the necessary technology to develop as a civilization. They brought them agriculture, writing, medicine – everything worth having.
When the monotheistic religions became dominant, the gods became one God, but the same social rhythm continued.
The mythology of the Eskimos says that the first tribes were brought north by “gods” who flew them onboard machines with bronze wings.
The oldest sagas of the Native Americans mention a Thunderbird that introduced fire and fruit to them.
What if ancient civilizations misinterpreted alien visitors as ‘Gods’?
The Mayan legend, the Popol Vuh, tells us that the “gods” were able to recognize everything; the universe, the four cardinal points of the compass, and even the round shape of the Earth.
So, does it not make you wonder what were the Eskimos talking about when they were referring to metal birds?
Why do the Indians mention a Thunderbird?
How were the ancestors of the ancient Maya able to deduce that the Earth was round?
When we mention the ancient Vimana, we come across a topic that has been widely spread across the internet.
The word Vimana is Sanskrit and has multiple meanings. Nowadays, the word is usually translated to ancient aircraft. The word “Vimana” originates from the Sanskrit words Vi-Mana, ‘Vi’ meaning ‘Bird’ and ‘Mana’ meaning ‘like’. The interpretation will be ‘like bird’.
The mechanical birds of ancient history
If we look at the Ramayana, a Vedic epic dating back to the 4th / 5th century BC, we will find one passage that describes a Vimana as a “chariot that resembles the sun, and how this aerial chariot had the ability to travel anywhere at will, it resembles a cloud of light in the sky…“
Vimanas… ancient flying machines of the gods?
This was the pushpaka, the vimana of Ravana, who is the hero of the great Hindu epic The Ramayana, which describes the pushpaka as follows:
The Pushpaka chariot that resembles the Sun and belongs to my brother was brought by the powerful Ravana; that aerial and excellent chariot going everywhere at will …. that chariot resembling a bright cloud in the sky … and the King [Rama] got in, and the excellent chariot at the command of the Raghira, rose up into the higher atmosphere.
The Vimanas are also described in the Mahabharata, another ancient text. In this case, measurements are given for one of the Vimanas. It is described as having twelve cubits in circumference with four strong wheels that are approximately 20 to 25 feet in circumference; about seven feet in diameter.
According to many ancient texts, these Vimanas were used to transport the gods through the heavens.
These flying machines, according to Erich Von Daniken, sailed at high altitudes with the help of mercury (mercury vortex engine). The Vimanas could cover great distances and could travel forward, up and down.
They were enviable and maneuverable space vehicles.
The predecessors of the flying vimanas of the Sanskrit epics are the flying chariots employed by various gods in the Vedas: The Sun (see Sun chariot) and Indra and several other Vedic deities are transported by flying wheeled chariots pulled by animals, usually horses.
In the Mahabharata, we find: “Gurkha flying in his swift and powerful Vimana hurled against the three cities of the Vrishis and Andhakas a single projectile charged with all the power of the Universe. An incandescent column of smoke and fire, as brilliant as ten thousand suns, rose in all its splendor. It was the unknown weapon, the Iron Thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death which reduced to ashes the entire race of the Vrishnis and Andhakas.”
In the Sanskrit Samarangana Sutradhara we find details about Vimana: “Strong and durable must the body of the Vimana be made, like a great flying bird of light material. Inside one must put the mercury engine with its iron heating apparatus underneath. By means of the power latent in the mercury which sets the driving whirlwind in motion, a man sitting inside may travel a great distance in the sky. The movements of the Vimana are such that it can vertically ascend, vertically descend, move slanting forwards and backward. With the help of the machines, human beings can fly in the air and heavenly beings can come down to earth.”
