Disturbing Claim – US Officials Hold Secret UFO Investigations and Tests At Ranch

Alleged leaked documents have revealed that the US Department of Defence has done multiple undercover tests at the widely known UFO sighting area.

Skinwalker ranch has become the hotbed of UFO sightings with residents reporting a series of bizarre incidents.

In 2017, the former secret UFO study under the US Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program was first made public.

Now, Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS) has presented documents revealing the programme also operated a secret investigation at the controversial Skinwalker ranch.

The BAASS manager said that their investigation offered new lines of proof showing that the UFO phenomenon was a lot more than machines that military aircraft encountered.

BAAS claimed that the phenomenon also involved mysterious creatures, invisible entities, poltergeist activity, orbs of light, animal and human injuries and much more.

Jeremy Corbell of Extraordinary Beliefs revealed the more extensive investigation of Pentagon looked into mysteries far more disturbing and profound than alleged alien aircraft. Jeremy explained that Pentagon’s other research focuses on a living laboratory and paranormal hotspot called Skinwalker Ranch.

Last year, American investigative journalist George Knapp revealed the secret document but claimed they left out some critical information.

Mr Corbell and Mr Knapp have produced an exclusive documentary “Hunt for the Skinwalker’ recounting Mr Knapp’s series of investigations at Skinwalker ranch.

Mr Knapp said that the documentary was like a paranormal Disneyland, focusing weird activities that took place on and around the ranch for hundreds if not thousands of years. Sightings include poltergeist-type activity, animal mutilations, unknown creatures, orbs, UFOs and several other inexplicable events.

“We’ve found 20 fast radio bursts in a year, almost doubling the number detected worldwide since they were discovered in 2007.”

They’re ba-ack! Well, actually, they never went away. Neither did the theories (or hopes) that they’re signals from or sign of alien life. We’re talking, of course, about fast radio bursts – those rare and mysterious millisecond pulses from deep space that have baffled astronomers since the first one was discovered in 2007. An excited Dr. Ryan Shannon from the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia co-authored a new studyin Nature describing the recent discovery of more FRBs, including both the closest and the brightest bursts seen so far. Are they any closer to a bright answer as to what they are?

“Our analysis shows that beams used for powering large light sails could yield parameters that are consistent with FRBs.”

In a different study published in 2017, Manasvi Lingam and Abraham Loeb speculated that the fast radio bursts are signs that extraterrestrials think like we do about using light sails and laser beams to traverse the stars, only on a much bigger scale. That’s tough to prove for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that fact that, at the time, only 36 FRBs had been detected. That number is now 56 with the new discoveries by Shannon and his team using the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder to scan a much wider piece of the sky than in previous searches. While their cause has not been determined (yet), the new study shed light on where FRBs are coming from.

“Using the new technology of the Australia Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP), we’ve also proved that fast radio bursts are coming from the other side of the Universe rather than from our own galactic neighbourhood.”

In a statement from The International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR), Shannon explains that timing the wavelengths as they reached the telescope told them how far the bursts had traveled, along with how much matter they passed through. The big reveal was that the FRBs are coming from galaxies outside of our own. Almost as exciting, when extrapolating what the ASKAP might find if it were able to scan the entire sky at once, they determined that FRBs are arriving at a rate between 30 and 45 per day. Finally, the bursts seem to have an upper threshold of energy, indicating that whatever is creating them has some limits.

So, the discovery of so many more fast radio bursts is big, but far from moving us any closer to determining what … or who … is sending them. “From where?” will probably be solved as the scanning continues. The rest will have to wait … unless a giant sail suddenly shows up.

Throughout human history and across cultures there has been one aspect of the paranormal world that has seemingly always been with us, that of ghosts, wraiths, specters, whatever you want to call them. These apparitions have always roamed about the periphery of our understanding, lurking in the shadows and the spooky places of our world to incite wonder, speculation, and of course fear and terror. Yet for all of their pervasiveness throughout the world and their presence upon the landscape of the human psyche, there has always been a profound question lingering, and that is: just what exactly are ghosts? What is their nature and what place do they hold in reality as we know it? The question of just what ghosts are has been contemplated, discussed, and debated for a very long time, but what answers do we really have, and do you think you know the solution? Here are just some of the musings on what these mysterious entities might be.

The most traditional idea, and the one most pervasive among most people, is the idea that ghosts are the spirits of the dead, that the soul has somehow transcended the death of the physical body to continue on to inhabit our realm for reasons unknown. In this view, ghosts are basically us, just living on into the afterlife while tethered to the world of the living for reasons we cannot comprehend. Maybe they are unwilling to “move on,” or maybe it is that some tragedy or unfulfilled goal has fueled some power to linger on the physical plane. When people think of ghosts, this is perhaps the most common vision that many will have, and how most people would probably define them, that they are our lost dead.

One of the interesting conundrums about this particularly prevalent idea, other than the fact there is no proof at all that anything survives us after death, is that there are innumerable religions, faiths, each with ideas on the afterlife as varied as the cultures who believe them. In some there is a form of Heaven or some form of Hell, some new realm away from the we are in now, while in others we are reincarnated or even become one with the universe. There is often little mention, if any, of wandering spirits loitering about Earth and interacting with it, or details on what those spirits should be like. There is also the oddity that despite all of these different ideas on death and the afterlife, regardless of the differences ghostly phenomena are often remarkably similar across the spectrum in many ways, so what are we to make of this? Is there any chance that ghosts are not the spirits of the living at all, and if not what could they be?

One alternative idea to the theory of ghosts as the spirits of the dead involves the concept that these are not independent entities at all, but rather a sort of echo of what once was. Commonly referred to as “residual hauntings,” the basic idea is that for some reason past events have been imprinted upon the building or the landscape and are merely playing back like images on camera film, or sounds on an audiotape, residual memories of a time lost. In this theory, what we see are not spirits in the traditional sense at all, but more like watching a video, with the film being the area around it.

This theory is especially applied to those cases wherein the apparitions seem to mindlessly repeat the same series of actions over and over again, perhaps for all eternity, and do not seem to realize that they are being watched or that they are dead, no more than an image on film “knows” it is being looked at. Why and how these particular past events should have been transplanted onto the landscape, as well as how they are played back, are unknown, but there has been speculation. For instance, it has been postulated that death, pain, suffering, tragedy, and other events involving strong emotions might somehow stain the location, imprint upon it, and cause these incidents to be replayed, and this fits in with hauntings often occurring at places where something terrible has happened. There is also the idea that the composition of the surrounding soil or rocks itself may have some part to play in these residual hauntings. Are ghosts perhaps, at least in some cases, merely history playing back on an endless loop?

Another intriguing theory is that ghosts do not come from the outside world atb all, but rather from within. In this line of reasoning, ghosts are not a product of supernatural energy or strange forces of nature, but are rather extensions of the mind reaching out through little understood psychic powers, creating seemingly real constructs projected onto the physical world solely through the power of the subconscious mind. These thought forms are often referred to as tulpas, and can even be generated by people who are not even aware that they are doing it, the forms often appearing to materialize or vanish at will, depending on the mental state of the individual or individuals projecting them.

An interesting historical example of a ghost as a tulpa occurred in the 1960s, when a paranormal researcher by the name of Hanz Holzer was looking into a series of hauntings in the building at 12 Gay Street, in New York City, which involved an apparition most commonly described as a tall gentleman dressed in black formal clothing and with a top hat, black cape, and cane. This phantom was said to walk about the darkened premises and surrounding area at night startling people only to disappear, Holzer would go on to publish the case in his 1966 paranormal book Yankee Ghosts, and this is where things get rather bizarre indeed.

According to an author named Walter B. Gibson, he had lived in that very same building not long before Holzer began his investigation. Gibson claimed that he had been living there in order to do research for an installment for his series of novels starring a Batman-like crime fighter called The Shadow. So absorbed was he in his writing and in envisioning The Shadow roaming about the streets and the premises that he would often even hallucinate his character, who just happened to wield a cane and wear formal evening clothes, a cape, and a top hat. The author likely would have attributed this to pure tiredness and obsession with his character if he had not happened to read Holzer’s book. He was immediately taken aback by the similarities between the ghost and his character, as well as the fact that the sightings were taking place in the exact same place he had lived while writing his novel at around the same time, and he became convinced that what had been seen was an actual projection of his character from his mind, which had somehow been transferred into reality.

Related to the idea of these thought forms materializing into reality from the mind are mental powers running amok in other ways. For instance, it is believed even among many paranormal researchers that some poltergeist infestations could be caused by psychokinetic energy, that is, the mind reaching out to touch the physical world, unleashed to cause disturbances such as moving objects or anomalous noises. As with some cases of tulpas, these outbursts can strike out even without the knowledge of the person producing them, but they usually follow some general tendencies, for instance in most cases, psychokinetic poltergeist activity originates with younger individuals, and is most likely linked to some inner turmoil, stress, or emotional strife. This sort of ghostly activity is typically not confined to any one location, as it is tethered to a person or persons, and it could be a possible explanation of “hauntings” that follow a family from place to place.

Even more outlandish than any of those theories is the idea that ghostly phenomena come from neither our physical or mental worlds, but rather a whole other realm beyond ours entirely. The idea has to do with the concept of multiple dimensions, parallel realities beyond our own that may bump up against ours and may even allow us to travel between them. This idea is dependent on the theory that rather than just one reality or physical universe as we know it, there is “multiverse” of many other, possibly even infinite other universes that all lie side by side with each other, but which are generally imperceptible to us. If this is so, then the reasoning is that inhabitants of these parallel dimension may bleed over into ours or even intentionally break through the mysterious veil that separates us from time to time.

The researcher and author John Keel, as well as UFOlogist Jacques Vallée, were among the first in the paranormal world to suggest the link between multiple dimensions and paranormal phenomena when they theorized that UFOs and their occupants may not be from other faraway planets, but rather from parallel dimensions next to our own, beings that he termed “ultra-terrestrials.” This basic concept would later be expanded to include a possible explanation for all manner of paranormal phenomena, from strange entities, to ghosts, demons, and even cryptids or out of place animals. In this case, these phenomena are proposed as being caused by the denizens of these other universes bursting forth into our own, intentionally or otherwise.

With ghostly phenomena this interdimensional angle could go down a few different ways. It could be that these entities are somehow becoming temporarily entangled with our reality, where they are sighted and even interact with our physical world before vanishing back to their own, which could very well be seen as ghosts or phantoms by witnesses. Or it could be that these are basically those ultra-terrestrials Keel spoke of, dimensional travelers coming to visit us for reasons unknown, but in this case rather than coming down in spaceships or UFOs they are appearing as ghosts, wraiths, and specters. It has even been theorized that aliens, ghosts, and other strange entities might all be basically the same thing, merely appearing differently to different individuals depending on witness expectations. So, if they think they are being abducted by aliens, that is what the entities appear as, whereas in a spooky old house they may appear as ghosts because that is what the witness is keyed up for.

With apparitions of recognizable people or those who have died, this could also be indicative of other parallel dimensions that are nearly identical to ours, but a bit different. One of the theories of the multiverse is that there may very well be countless versions of our own dimension, with many of them almost the same but with some subtle or profound differences. For instance, there could be a reality where you wore a red shirt today instead of blue, where you made different choices, have a different job, or where you don’t even exist. Maybe in one reality a different team won the World Series, the Beatles never broke up, or one where dinosaurs never went extinct. Maybe a person who died in your own universe didn’t die in that one, but yet still inhabits the same place, where they go about life overlaid on this version of reality where they died. It this case, it is speculated, they might sort of overflow into our dimension from time to become visible for short durations or with a somewhat intangible or unearthly quality, only to fade away, making us think we’ve seen someone’s spirit rather than just a version of them from a different timeline.

These have so far been ideas that are far from proven and remain mostly in the realm of conjecture and speculation, so what of other, more scientifically grounded explanations for ghosts? One popular theory in recent times has been that ghosts and similar entities could have their basis in naturally occurring phenomena rather than the supernatural, and that the main culprit could be what are known as ultra-low frequency soundwaves, or infrasound. These are sounds that register just below the threshold of human hearing, but which our bodies sense and are affected by all the same. Infrasound is known to create a wide range of physical and mental effects, including disorientation, dizziness, shortness of breath, faintness, increased heart rate and blood pressure, and nausea, as well as emotional and mental effects including fear, sorrow, panic, and anxiety, and also effects on perception, like both aural and visual hallucinations, and since the one being affected cannot actually hear what is causing the disturbances, it could very well seem like the work of supernatural beings. Infrasound is actually quite common in nature as well, created by all manner of physical forces such as earthquakes, volcanoes, waves crashing upon rocks, wind, rain, and thunder, so perhaps the ghosts are really all in our head, the result of natural forces that we can’t hear.

There is also the idea that our minds can play tricks on our perceptions in other ways as well. One good example would be some studies that show that electrical stimulation of certain areas of the brain can create a profound sense of other entities nearby or of “shadow people” lurking about taunting us. There was once interesting case illustrating this in action that was published in the journal Nature, which was carried out by researchers from University Hospital in Geneva, Switzerland, and described the case of an epilepsy patient who witnessed a separate entity in the room with her when a region of the brain known as the temporoparietal junction was stimulated.

The woman apparently perceived this shadow figure as a very real autonomous entity separate from herself, rather than just a hallucination, and she often complained that the entity would touch her or embrace her. In some experiments this shadow person was described as interfering with her tasks, such as trying to pull cards out of her hands or distracting her in other ways. This strange phenomenon likely has to do with a crossing of the wires in this part of the brain, which distinguishes oneself from others, and one researcher in the study would say of the patient and the study:

Electrical stimulation repeatedly produced a feeling of the presence of another person in her extra-personal space, a shadow who did not speak or move, and whose position beneath her back was identical to her own. The strange sensation that somebody is nearby when no one is actually present has been described by psychiatric and neurological patients, as well as by healthy subjects. Our findings may be a step towards understanding the mechanisms behind psychiatric manifestations such as paranoia, persecution and alien control.

Similarly, ghostly phenomena could be the result of a range of optical illusions or hallucinations that emerge for a myriad of reasons. Psychological circumstances, stress, sleep deprivation, sleep paralysis, hypnagogia, or when a person is in a dream-like state halfway between sleep and waking, schizophrenia, drugs, side effects of medication, these can all combine with trigger visual cues such as a spooky locale to perhaps produce the perception of paranormal phenomena. The phenomenon known as pareidolia, wherein the human brain tries to make sense of random patterns by giving them a recognizable identity, could also play a role, in that something half glimpsed in one’s peripheral vision could be misconstrued as something more supernatural in nature. Combined with an over active imagination, visual cues, and an expectation to see something strange, all of these things could possibly contribute to experiences of ghostly phenomena when in fact there is nothing really there at all. Is it possible that ghosts are just all in our head?

In the end it is perhaps impossible to explain the full range of ghostly phenomena with any one of these factors. Ghosts seem to be an area of the paranormal that is a lot more varied, nuanced, and complicated than it may at first seem, to the extent that to call something a “ghost” might be considered akin to calling a “dog” a “vertebrate.” The permutations and possible descriptions are vast. There are many factors at play here, all equally strange and all intertwined to the point that they may never be unraveled. What we can be sure of is that people since time unremembered have experienced ghostly phenomena, beyond the scope of mere tall tales and hoaxes, and something truly odd is going on, whatever that may be.

During its brief trip through our solar system, the interstellar space object named ’Oumuamua was at one time or another speculated to be an asteroid, a comet or a spaceship that may or may not be occupied by living beings. It has since left the solar system for destinations unknown, but the arguments about what it is continue. The latest theory replaces “none of the above” with “an ejected protoplanetary disk object.” A what?

The interstellar object ’Oumuamua raced through the solar system a year ago. Astronomers continue to argue about what it is made of.

Its rare cigar shape made ’Oumuamua a puzzle from the start, as did its rotation, which American football-loving astronomers described as not a tight quarterback spiral but a botched end-over-end field goal kick. (Female astronomers assumed their best Captain Picard facepalm poses.) This caused speculation that the object may have been involved in a violent interstellar collision. While its seemingly dry surface said ‘asteroid’, the erratic spin said ‘comet’. This theory was strengthened with other observations that the object seemed to accelerate on its way out, implying it was getting some sort of boost from gases released when the icy surface melted on its close turn around the Sun.

Not football references again!

That was accepted for a while, until it was pointed out that comets have tails and ’Oumuamua didn’t even have a Doberman’s nub, let alone a gaseous trail or fuzzy aura about it. Also, that acceleration combined with the tumbling rotation should have broken a cigar of ice and dirt apart. Then there’s the fact that this was the first interstellar object ever discovered. What kind of force could have propelled it across light years from one sun to another?

“Basically, it’s a messenger from a dead star.”

In a new study, Roman Rafikov, an astrophysicist at the University of Cambridge, proposes that ’Oumuamua is actually a sliver of a planet that was blown to pieces as its sun collapsed and died and transformed into a white dwarf. In an interview with Quanta magazine and in the study’s abstract, Rafikov builds his case by process of process of elimination of other causes combined with a comparison to the behavior of other tidal disruption events like the death of a star and destruction of its planets.

“Based on these arguments, as well as the lack of direct signs of outgassing, we conclude that the classification of ‘Oumuamua as a comet (invoked to explain its claimed anomalous acceleration) is questionable.”

Well … that settles it — ‘Oumuamua is a messenger from a dead star. Or is it? There’s little chance of tracing it back to its white dwarf because the event occurred millions of years ago. The data on it is limited because it showed up unexpectedly, was not detected until it was leaving and passed through in a hurry. At best, astronomers are hoping to spot another one in the future with a better telescope.

In the meantime, Outgassing would make a great name for a band whose first prog-rock album is “Messenger From A Dead Star.”

I thought they’d been shot. I didn’t realize what had happened. There were parts missing — they were mutilated.

Arizona rancher John Mahan discovered a cow and a bull mysteriously killed and mutilated on his property near the Grand Canyon. Both animals had organs removed including their reproductive organs, and both were drained of blood. Curiously, as in similar cases of unexplained cattle mutilations, there were no tracks and very little blood found around the animals’ carcasses. Who could have done this to these cows?

I just assumed they had been shot. I didn’t realize what had happened to them until the inspector showed me. They didn’t take any edible meat, just the genitals.

Why is it always the genitals? In most of these cases, the sex organs of the animals are surgically removed, sometimes including the entire anal or vaginal cavity. Who – or what – would go to such lengths while leaving the other choice cuts of meat?

Maybe things that don’t meat.

Arizona Livestock Inspector Royal Reidhead examined the dead animals, and says he knew right away that something was amiss when he saw the carcasses. “These animals weren’t shot, these animals were mutilated,” Reidhead told Williams-Grand Canyon News, “They were basically killed for their body parts.” Even stranger, the animals’ carcasses weren’t touched by scavenger animals as they lay undiscovered for a week after their brutal mutilation.

Reidhead has seen several similar cattle mutilations in the Grand Canyon area of Arizona, and says that the wounds inflicted on the animals are always surgically precise and leave behind little blood. While Reidhead believes that poachers are mutilating these animals, I just have to wonder why someone would go to the lengths of surgically removing only a few organs and leaving the rest to rot in the sun. Again – why the genitals? Do people eat those?

Livestock mutilations remain one of the weirdest unexplained phenomena.

Even stranger, how could someone go about draining these animals’ blood and removing their organs without leaving as much as a single footprint or drop of blood? As much as I try to remain skeptical about alien abductions and similar alleged phenomena, these cattle mutilations always leave me wondering what on Earth or off Earth is capable of such clean, precise surgeries with no discernible evidence. But why would aliens be so interested in cow genitals?

Often I say that storms, lightning, tornadoes and even earthquakes are sometimes caused by alien craft. Here we have proof that the hurricane was created by aliens too. Greys to be exact...were the species that did it. 

It was a Tweet from Jim Dickey a Morning Meteorologist for ABC7 WZVN Ft. Myers, FL that first noticed the face. Then it spread from there. He caught this and and told the world about it getting loads of attention.

Aliens control our planet and in more ways than I can say. They were here long before us, and they will be here long after us.

Snelle radioflitsen duren slechts een paar milliseconden. Astronomen weten nog niet hoe ze ontstaan, maar er komen enorme hoeveelheden energie bij vrij: ruwweg 80 keer de totale jaarproductie van onze zon. Volgens Jean-Pierre Macquart van de Curtin University reizen de flitsen miljarden jaren en doorkruisen ze occasioneel gaswolken.

On a day when NASA, Roscosmos and the rest of the world breathed a collective sigh of relief as a Soyuz MS-10 spacecraft and its crew returned safely to Earth after an aborted launch, news emerges of a leading Russian astronomer who believes we are not alone in the universe. How soon can one of these civilizations get here with a replacement?

“I admit the existence of extraterrestrial intelligent civilizations.”

Dmitry Bisikalo is the director of the Astronomy Institute at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow and a specialist in the gas dynamics of interacting binary stars and accretion disks. How does this qualify him to proclaim that aliens exist? It doesn’t, but his research includes studying the components of a star’s gases and those of any exoplanets around them. As he told Sputnik News, those gases – especially oxygen, ozone and methane – are biological markers that can be indicators of civilizations making things and polluting their atmospheres just like we do.

“It is important to note that many biomarkers appear in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum, which will be studied by the Spektr-UF space observatory, which will be launched into orbit in 2024.”

Spoken like a true bureaucratic astronomer making sure he has a job in a few years by plugging the Spektr-UV or World Space Observatory-Ultraviolet (WSO-UV) — a proposed joint (Russia, Spain, Germany, Ukraine and Kazakhstan) space telescope that has been planned since 2007 and needed well before 2024 with the gyroscope problems currently being experienced by the Hubble space telescope. While waiting for the launch, Bisikalo is also generating interest in both astronomy and space travel with comments like his recent one.

“After all, if our civilization exists, by analogy there may be others, and probably many of them.”

Bisikalo is channeling American astronomer Frank Drake and his famous equation putting the probability of the existence of alien civilizations at ‘high’. Unfortunately, like Drake, Bisikalo is dealing in possibilities, not proofs, and he brings in his own theory as to why we haven’t seen any extraterrestrials yet.

“[They] do not want to contact.”

Of course they don’t. We’re big polluters just like themselves and are on our way to destroying our planet, just as they may have. All they need to do is sit quietly and wait.

“For example, until the beginning of the twentieth century, our civilization did not radiate anything. Now the Earth is full of electronic signals at different intervals, but the general tendency is to reduce losses and consequently decrease signal level.”

“Decrease signal level.” In other words, die off. That may be what happens (spoiler alert) to all civilizations before they can change their ways or develop the technology to go somewhere else.

Based on the Soyuz incident today and the previous and still unsolved manmade hole found in the Soyuz capsule currently docked at the International Space Station, our signal level may be decreasing before we can leave too.

Bisikalo is still confident he and the rest of us will be around for the launch and usage of the Spektr-UV space telescope.

“Probably with the help of this infrared space telescope we will see something really interesting.”

Let’s hope it’s a starship delivering reliable space vehicles.

Oh boy, it’s been quite a run for Egyptian archaeology. We’ve had the big and spooky black sarcophagus, discoveries of new Sphinxes, pyramid energy focusing allegations, and now a discovery of a tomb built for a mysterious priest named Kaires who, according to the inscriptions on his statue, was the “sole friend of the king” and the “keeper of the secret of the Morning House.” Which king he’s referring to is unknown, just like everything else about this fellow despite his tomb’s insistence that he’s someone to know about.

Kaires was the sole friend (of the king), overseer of all king’s works, keeper of the secret of the Morning House, steward of the royal palace, foremost of the House of Life, inspector of the priests serving in the pyramid complexes of kings Sahure and Neferirkare, priest of the goddess Hathor, mistress of the sycamore, in Cusae (a city in southern Egypt), custodian of the two thrones (i.e. of southern and northern Egypt), as well as a holder of several other titles.

While Egytologists aren’t sure which pharaoh Kaires says he was the “sole friend” to, the tomb is near the pyramid built for the pharaoh Neferirkare who ruled from 2446 to 2438 BCE and that’s the pyramid Kaires was apparently the inspector of.

Now, as to the secret of Morning House and what “the foremost of the House of Life” could be, the archaeologists had this to say:

The Morning House was a specific location, where the king would come in the morning to eat breakfast and get dressed, whereas the House of Life was an institution, where Egyptians stored texts recorded on papyrus scrolls containing their knowledge and religious-philosophical treatises.

That’s right, he was the keeper of the secret of breakfast. Who knows, maybe that was an important secret to keep. What if the king was a picky eater? Maybe he only ate cream of wheat. That’s no kind of fit ruler. Perhaps society would have crumbled if the secret was ever let out.

But there’s also the matter of the House of Life, which seems far more important. Being the foremost of a massive library where all knowledge and religious writing was stored probably involved more secret keeping than being the breakfast wizard. There have been remarkably few papyrus scrolls discovered from this time period so we don’t know just what was in the House of Life, but it was likely on the extreme side of impressive.

The ancients had a certain knack for pompous and egotistical titles that we’ve lost in the 21st century. Go around calling yourself the keeper of anything and likely all that will happen is a truck drives by and splashes you with mud while the driver hangs his head out of the and calls you a nerd. The problem with finding these sorts of titles in archaeological excavations is we don’t know whether or not these people were just old nerds. Now we dig up their tombs and we assume some dude’s made up titles have connotations of esoteric importance, which is exactly what he wanted us to think. We may never know how important this Kaires character was, but one thing has been true since time began: if you have to go around saying you’re the god-king’s only friend, maybe you’re just the breakfast wizard.

Australian researchers have discovered a record breaking number of brief but powerful bursts of radio waves emanating from deep space.

CSIRO radio telescopes in Western Australia detected 19 of the mysterious blasts, which nearly doubles the total number of known fast radio bursts (FRBs).

Among the 19 signals observed were some of the closest and brightest FRBs ever detected, researchers from the Swinburne University of Technology found.

Fast radio bursts are elusive signals that last just a few milliseconds, and are thought to originate billions of light-years away – but, scientists don’t yet know what causes them. 

They also generate an intense blast of energy - enough that it's almost equivalent to the amount released by the sun over the course of 80 years.   

'We've found 20 fast radio bursts in a year, almost doubling the number detected worldwide since they were discovered in 2007,' Ryan Shannon, lead author of the study, said in a statement. 

The scientists say they've also proved that the FRBs are coming from the other side of the universe, 'rather than from our own galactic neighborhood.'  

FRBs typically travel for billions of years, occasionally passing through clouds of gas. 

Scientists pay close attention to the arrival of the different wavelengths to learn how much material the burst has traveled through on its journey.   

'Each time this happens, the different wavelengths that make up a burst are slowed by different amounts,' Jean-Pierre Macquart, a co-author of the study, noted.

'Eventually, the burst reaches Earth with its spread of wavelengths arriving at the telescope at slightly different times, like swimmers at a finish line.

'...And because we've shown that fast radio bursts come from far away, we can use them to detect all the missing matter located in the space between galaxies - which is a really exciting discovery.'

Scientists now know that FRBs come from about halfway across the universe, but it's remains unclear what causes them or which galaxies they come from. 

Astronomers have previously suggested that the bursts could be coming from a giant cosmic object, such as a neutron star. 

Others have even wilder theories that they may originate from a far-flung alien race that's yet to be discovered.

WHAT ARE FAST RADIO BURSTS AND WHY DO WE STUDY THEM?

Fast radio bursts, or FRBs, are radio emissions that appear temporarily and randomly, making them not only hard to find, but also hard to study.

The mystery stems from the fact it is not known what could produce such a short and sharp burst.

This has led some to speculate they could be anything from stars colliding to artificially created messages.

The first FRB was spotted, or rather 'heard' by radio telescopes, back in 2001 but wasn't discovered until 2007 when scientists were analysing archival data.

But it was so temporary and seemingly random that it took years for astronomers to agree it wasn't a glitch in one of the telescope's instruments. 

Researchers from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics point out that FRBs can be used to study the structure and evolution of the universe whether or not their origin is fully understood.

A large population of faraway FRBs could act as probes of material across gigantic distances. 

This intervening material blurs the signal from the cosmic microwave background (CMB), the left over radiation from the Big Bang. 

A careful study of this intervening material should give an improved understanding of basic cosmic constituents, such as the relative amounts of ordinary matter, dark matter and dark energy, which affect how rapidly the universe is expanding.

FRBs can also be used to trace what broke down the 'fog' of hydrogen atoms that pervaded the early universe into free electrons and protons, when temperatures cooled down after the Big Bang. 

The team from the Swinburne University of Technology is now focusing on pinpointing the locations of the bursts on the sky.    

'We'll be able to localise the bursts to better than a thousandth of a degree,' Shannon said.

'That's about the width of a human hair seen ten metres away, and good enough to tie each burst to a particular galaxy.'

They added that the latest discovery of FRBs is largely due in part to the Australia Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) telescope used to find them. 

ASKAP's massive dish has spotted numerous FRBs over the years, earning it the nickname of Sauron, after the fictional dark overlord that's the 'all-seeing eye' of the Lord of the Rings series. 

It's gotten so good at spotting FRBs that scientists say it could soon spot new FRBs every few days.

The instrument is equipped with 36 dishes in total, which can be used either to look at one point of the sky, or be pointed in different directions to like the segments of a fly’s eye, according to CSIRO.

Using eight dishes, the telescope can see 240 square degrees all at once.

'The telescope has a whopping field of view of 30 square degrees, 100 times larger than the full Moon,' said CSIRO's Keith Bannister, who engineered the systems that detected the bursts.

'And, by using the telescope's dish antennas in a radical way, with each pointing at a different part of the sky, we observed 240 square degrees all at once - about a thousand times the area of the full Moon.

'ASKAP is astoundingly good for this work,' Bannister added.

Bij de lancering van een raket op weg naar het ruimtestation ISS is iets misgegaan. De twee bemanningsleden aan boord moesten een noodlanding op aarde maken. Dat is goed gelukt, melden de NASA en persbureau AFP. 

Meteen na de noodlanding gingen reddingsdiensten naar de plaats waar de mannen geland waren. „Ze zijn daar inmiddels aangekomen en melden dat de bemanningsleden in goede conditie zijn”, zo meldt de NASA. 

De Amerikaanse Nick Hague en de Russische Aleksej Ovtsjinin waren op weg naar het internationale ruimtestation ISS. Ze zijn ergens in het midden van Kazachstan geland, in de buurt van de stad Dzjezkazgan. Zoals alle ruimtevaarders zijn ze uitgebreid getraind op zulke omstandigheden. 

Het ging mis toen de eerste trap, waarmee de raket loskwam van de grond, moest worden losgekoppeld. Elke raket kan tot een bepaald punt na lancering de vlucht afbreken en terugkeren naar de grond.

Let’s say you’re living on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean with a population far larger than the supply of available fresh drinking water, which is limited to rainwater. Let’s say you and your fellow islanders have adapted to drinking brackish, slightly-salty water that occasionally springs from the ground, but those springs and reservoirs are difficult to find. When you do find them, wouldn’t it be a good idea to leave a marker so you can locate it again … a marker big enough to see from remote spots on your island? Believe it or not, that’s the new theory being proposed as to why the people of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) built their huge iconic Moai statues. Does it hold water?

In a study published in Hydrogeology Journal and reported in Newsweek, Binghamton University (New York) Professor of Anthropology Carl Lipo explained the major problem prehistoric Easter islanders faced in trying to survive on Rapa Nui. With no rivers and just two small lakes located in extremely remote areas, one would expect that the first inhabitants would build cisterns or ponds to capture and retain rainwater. While a few small ones were found, they’re not sufficient to support the thousands of residents inhabiting the island at its peak.

While they lacked fresh water, they had brackish water, and the explorers who eventually visited the island saw the residents drinking it without suffering any ill effects. What the islanders also had was a volcano sloped to run any kind of water downhill to the coastal areas. That’s where Lipo and his team found evidence of discharge points where brackish water would have been collected in reservoirs or trenches. That’s where they also found the statues.

nowing the details of the island’s hydrology and understanding that fresh water was a key ingredient in monument location now allows us to start generating hypotheses about the role that statues/monuments played in the community … This may well help unravel the secret to why this island boasts so many massive statues.”

Lots of water holding points … lots of statues. While there is definitely a connection between them, the team isn’t sure if the statues were carved and hauled there as markers, offerings of thanks to some brackish water god or for some other reason. Whatever the case, the water points are symbols of how a large population not only survived but thrived for centuries, growing food and working together to quarry, carve, haul and position the enormous statues precisely at the sources of their success.

“What they did was an incredible feat—but one that has been misinterpreted by outsiders who make European assumptions about what the island ‘should look like.’”

Planet Earth is weird. Some of us might like to think of ourselves as separate from or somehow apart from the Earth, but the fact is we are the Earth. All living things are intertwined in the massive, complex chemical reaction that is planet Earth. Photosynthesis, respiration, decay – all of the various natural processes and reactions all stem from the fact that our home is one big ball of elements being pulled together by their own gravity. As our scientific instruments and techniques continue to improve, we’re beginning to discover that all things living and nonliving are much more interconnected than we think.

Case in point: a new paper published in the journal Current Opinion in Microbiology suggests that massive colonies of microorganisms floating high above us in the stratosphere might actually have a profound influence on the weather down here on the surface. Scientists have been uncovering evidence of this atmospheric bacteria for a few decades, but this study is the first to suggest that this ecosystem has an impact on weather.

The process, known as bioprecipitation, is fairly simple: ice crystals and droplets of water more condense more easily around the membranes of tiny microorganisms; thus, the more microorganisms in the sky, the more precipitation and cloud coverage there is. Understanding this process is difficult, as collecting specimens or even reaching this upper layer of the atmosphere is expensive and doing so without contaminating samples with terrestrial microbes is near-impossible.

Forget HAARP: these are the real weather manipulators.

Even more worrisome, this study suggests that this microbial layer of our atmosphere has the potential to spread diseases around the world – although some scientists think that claim might be far-fetched without more data to support it. Still, as the Earth’s climate continues to change in unexpected ways, understanding and identifying the role of these atmospheric bacteria becomes increasingly important.

This study adds to the growing body of research which suggests tiny microbes play much more important roles in nearly every biological or natural process than we realize. Human beings are basically all singing, all dancing colonies of microbes and our bacterial passengers have been found to exert a profound influence on all sorts of functions like metabolism, immune function, and even mental health. Might human beings merely be the giant exosuits of colonies of intelligent bacteria? It’s a neat thought.

Huge UFO Sighting Above Baja California - Multiple Witnesses And Video 

To me this looks like someone on the ground is trying to keep them in a line by remote control? It could be a few drones. That's our opinion here at USF. But still, we could be wrong? Until the Aliens come forward everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Our guess is that the objects are real (wait, keep reading) and the objects are definitely Unidentified Flying Objects - but with the surge of drones and the way that drones can be absolutely tricked out with LED's and other lightweight materials that a simple plus very inexpensive, a drone can get a city on lockdown in an instant. Maybe the reason why this kind of attention wasn't given to this particular "UFO encounter" makes me think that this is nothing more than a few drones with a few teenagers pranking everyone.
Knowing that all they need to do is fly a few drones around the city from a concealed vantage point and participate in a few modest maneuvers and the next day they're on the internet on all the big sites like MUFON, and NUFORC's - and the rest as they say, is literally a history story? Or is it, it could be indeed Aliens but probably lost Aliens tapping on their GPS devices and sayings to on another like "hey dude", I think we should of took a left at Neptune brah!

I'm sorry but if it's too good to be true, then it's usually untrue. Don't get me wrong, UFO encounters are always going to be a little extraordinary but this is ridiculous. They're over a city, just high enough not to see them that well, just the lights and well, if it is Aliens then when they come forward and say "yep, it was us" as far as we're concerned it's a hoax and until then we are saying no to this.

Light -Duration: 18 minutes Ensenada, (Baja Norte)(Mexico) - 08-29-18 - Multi-witness sighting of multiple nearly static glowing objects in the night sky at the Pacific coastline on 08-29-2018.

Yesterday, evening at approximately 8:17 PM (PDT), I heard our neighbor loudly and urgently calling my wife’s name. When we went outside we were told to come up to the balcony and to hurry. After climbing the steps I could see the line of lights in the sky they were watching.

The line of lights were not in motion and I decided to grab my cell phone to shoot video of the event before it ended. With the phone in hand I quickly climbed the steps to the balcony and began shooting video. Facing west we could see approximately 20 glowing objects aligned north to south.

They were all nearly stationary with some small movement near the center of the line. A second pair of lights appeared above and to the right (north) of the formation and slowly descended near the formation. Shortly afterward, lights began to go off in place. It was only a minute or two before the lights appeared again in the same formation and location they appeared before.

I used the balcony rail to steady my shot but the vibrations of the balcony and movement up or down the staircase were causing vibrations to distort the video clarity. Being fully zoomed in to enhance the view exaggerated the vibrations.

I estimate the distance we stood from the formation of lights to be only 2 miles distant or less. The width of the formation was nearly a quarter mile. No sound could be heard but ambient highway sounds may have drowned out our ability to hear softer sounds.

I have seen videos of similar events and heard there had been a similar sighting near this area only four months earlier. I felt no sense of dread during the event. I noticed no particular pattern in the pulsations that seemed to affect each light simultaneously.

Almost all the event is captured on video between 4 separate clips and a couple of poor quality still shots that I have not posted anywhere online yet. Upon request, I will provide links to the videos captured for your analysis.

Video of the Baja, Norte Mexico. This is a good UFO sighting but if it's real, well I'll leave that up to you to decide but I think this is a few drones with lights on them. The color of the lights give this away big time because they're man made lights. Sorry but they are and what are man made lights doing on a UFO, lol.

Each of the perplexing and unsettling UFO sightings that appears in the series is based on an actual event described in the recently declassified government records, executive producer and writer Sean Jablonski told the panel audience.

"Every case you see — that really happened," Jablonski said.

One standout incident took place in Washington, D.C., in July 1952. The repeated appearance of mysterious radar blips prompted the Air Force to launch a group of fighter jets to intercept what they thought were unidentified aircraft, according to Jablonski.

But the blips vanished every time the jet fighters drew close, only to reappear when the jets pulled away from the blips' presumed location, one of the pilots reported in an oral history recorded in 1999.

The founder of "ufology"

"Project Blue Book" stars Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger in HBO's "Game of Thrones") as Hynek, the scientist recruited by the Air Force to investigate UFO sightings and related phenomena. Though Hynek was a UFO skepticwhen he began working for the Air Force, much of what he saw and heard over his years with the project defied easy explanation. Eventually, the experience transformed him into a passionate believer in UFO encounters representing possible contact with alien life, Gillen told the panel audience.

In fact, Hynek went on to become what is now known as a "ufologist" (UFO expert). He authored several books about UFOs, founded the Center for UFO Studies — a private organization for scientific UFO investigation — and served as a technical advisor for one of the most iconic films about UFOs, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977).

The series also reveals that working on Project Blue Book brought unexpected conflicts for Hynek. Even when his investigations of baffling UFO-related incidents raised more questions than they answered, Air Force agents pushed for debunking and quick closure, frustrating his efforts to uncover the facts about what people saw, according to Gillen.

"He just wanted to find the truth," Gillen said.

But was the U.S. government after the truth? In the show, Hynek soon learns that his Air Force colleagues aren't really interested in getting to the bottom of events that seem impossible to understand. Instead, they seek tidy, reassuring explanations that tell the public there is nothing to be alarmed about. The government's deliberate deviation from witnesses' accounts and evidence — essentially creating "the original 'fake news'" — was an integral part of the "Project Blue Book" narrative, executive producer and writer David O'Leary told the panel audience.

"On the subject of UFOs, part of the story is the cover-up, the lying, the misinformation campaign to control public perception," O'Leary said.

"Project Blue Book" premieres on the History channel on Jan. 8, 2019, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, 9 p.m. CT.

Niet drie maar vijf keer uitgebarsten

In Lake Motusu, één van de vijf meren die de vulkaan omzomen, werd een boorkern uit het sediment gehaald van vier meter. “De aslagen van de meerbodem zijn hier beter bewaard waardoor we de lagen beter konden dateren”, zegt Vanessa Heyvaert van het Koninklijk Belgisch Instituut voor Natuurwetenschappen. “Gelijkaardig onderzoek van de Japanners op de flanken van de vulkaan wordt bemoeilijkt door bodemvorming. Hun dateringen zijn daarom minder accuraat.”

Bij nader onderzoek van de sedimentatie in het meer bleek dat Mount Fuji niet drie maar vijf keer is uitgebarsten in de loop van de voorbije achtduizend jaar. Twee uitbarstingen, respectievelijk 2.458 en 2.438 jaar geleden, waren tussen de plooien van de geschiedenis verdwenen. 

Gevaar nog groter dan gedacht

De laatste uitbarsting van Mount Fuji is inmiddels al ongeveer 2.300 jaar geleden. Toch is het onderzoek nu heel relevant voor de veiligheid van de bevolking in de omgeving van de Japanse reus. “Mount Fuji wordt beschouwd als een actieve vulkaan”, zegt De Batist. “Het is een berg die zeer goed gemonitord wordt. De voorbije jaren wordt weer wat meer activiteit vastgesteld. Na de zware aardbeving van 2011 was er zelfs even paniek, omdat men lichte trillingen waarnam onder de vulkaan en men vreesde dat er door de beving een uitbarsting getriggerd kon worden.”

Een vulkaanuitbarsting zou ook echt voor een logistieke ramp kunnen zorgen, zeker in de zomermaanden als de wandelpaden naar de top open zijn. ”Uit ons onderzoek is immers ook gebleken dat het gebied rond de vulkaan dat risico loopt tijdens een uitbarsting veel groter is dan eerst gedacht en dat vulkanische as zich over een veel groter oppervlak kan verspreiden”, aldus De Batist. 

“De Japanners nemen ons onderzoek daarom mee in de aanpassingen die ze momenteel aan het doen zijn van hun hazard maps, met risico-analyses voor aardbevingen en andere natuurrampen.”

BIJZONDERE UFO VAKER GEZIEN BOVEN NEDERLAND

De bijzondere UFO die onlangs door verschillende mensen boven de Amerikaanse staat Minnesota is gesignaleerd, blijft de gemoederen bezighouden. 

Onlangs publiceerden wij het verhaal van een lezer die een identiek object boven Nederland had waargenomen en hij was niet de enige….

Wat het ook is dat die mensen hebben gezien, gefotografeerd en gefilmd boven de Amerikaanse staat Minnesota enkele weken geleden, het lijkt een bijzonder object te zijn dat ook door andere mensen is gezien in ons land.

Het gaat om drie onafhankelijke waarnemingen in de Amerikaanse staat Minnesota van een behoorlijk groot cirkelvormig object dat er als volgt uit zag:

Back then I shared my experience with a few sites here is the article. 

Op die website staat inderdaad het hele verhaal wat er die zomeravond in juni 1996 gebeurde tijdens een autorit van Oeffelt naar Boekel, een afstand van zo’n 26 kilometer. 

De man in kwestie was samen met zijn toenmalige vriendin op bezoek geweest bij vrienden die in een vrij afgelegen boerderij in de buurt van Oeffelt woonden. 

Hij kan zich die avond van 22 juni 1996 nog goed herinneren, want dat was de avond dat Nederland tegen Frankrijk speelde voor de wereldkampioenschappen. 

Rond middernacht vertrekt het stel omdat de volgende dag een werkdag was en ze een beetje op tijd in bed moesten liggen. Het eerste wat de man ziet is een rond object met vele lichten dat rondcirkelt boven de boerderij waar ze op bezoek waren. Het was identiek aan die die nu wordt waargenomen in Minnesota. 

Nu komt er wederom een verhaal van een lezer die eveneens een soortgelijke ervaring heeft gehad en ook niet zo gek ver van bovenstaande waarneming. Het bovenstaande verhaal speelt zich af rond Oeffelt en het hiernavolgende in de buurt van Posterholt, zo’n 80 kilometer verder naar het zuiden.

Het verhaal van auteur Peter Diepstraten die dit meemaakte vindt plaats enkele jaren na het bovenstaande: 

Naar aanleiding van het artikel over de UFO uit Minnesota ook in Nederland gesignaleerd van de datum 04 oktober j.l. het volgende. Het betrof hier een ervaring van een man die met zijn vriendin een bijzondere ervaring had tijdens een autorit naar huis in Boekel. U vroeg onderaan het artikel of er meer mensen zouden zijn die iets dergelijks zich zouden kunnen herinneren dan wel of die iets soortgelijks hebben ervaren. Aangezien het jaartal juni 1996 toch al beduidend lang is geleden is mijn soortgelijke ervaring van iets recentere datum. Dit betreft de zondag 19 december 1999. 

Mijn ervaring heb ik in een uitgegeven eigen boek opgenomen. Ik zal u de letterlijke tekst uit mijn boek weergeven. Deze ervaring cq. manifestatie is frappant identiek aan datgene wat in uw artikel werd omschreven. 

"Het was op 19 december 1999 in de vroege ochtenduren dat moet geweest zijn tussen 05.45 uur en 06.00 uur, op de weg tussen St. Odiëlenberg en Posterholt, op de provinciale weg de N293. Ik had die nacht dienst gehad en was richting huiswaarts naar Koningsbosch. In die tijd hadden wij nog onze vaste post de dependance in het Bedrijvencentrum te Roermond. Ik had deze weg al talloze malen gereden dus ik ken deze weg op mijn duimpje. Ik weet nog goed dat het die ochtend, een week voor kerstmis trouwens dat het een druilige regenachtige ochtend was. Verder kan ik me nog herinneren dat toen ik de bebouwde kom verliet van Sint Odiëlenberg, ik voorbij hectometerpaaltje 6.0 reed en de lange weg voor mij zag opdoemen. 

Op een gegeven moment had ik het idee gekregen dat de combinatie van de koplampen geprojecteerd op de wegdekstrepen alsook de regen alsook het mistige weersbeeld, want het was behoorlijk mistig die ochtend met een beperkt gezichtsveld, mij wat in verwarring bracht. De rustige cadans alsook de statische situatie alsook het monotone rijden was ineens voor mij erg opmerkelijk. Nochthans had ik het idee dat deze factoren gezamenlijk mij het idee gaven dat het effect hiervan mij parten speelde want ik meende hierdoor lichtschijnsels waar te nemen. Ik dacht ook sterk dat de vermoeidheid hierin ook een rol speelde. 

Maar toen ik dan ter hoogte van hectometerpaaltje 7.0 van de provinciale weg reed werd ik geattendeerd op een vreemdsoortig lichtverschijnsel. De snelheid die ik had was niet al te hard ik reed rustig, er was die ochtend geen verkeer toen, het was trouwens ook nog op een zondagochtend. Ik bracht de snelheid aanzienlijk terug tot zelfs bijna stapvoets. Vervolgens naderde ik het industriegebied van Posterholt en kwam ter hoogte van [het bedrijf] Cuypers kozijnen en Geelen beton. Daar dacht ik te concluderen dat het vreemdsoortige lichtschijnsel te hebben kunen situeren of plaatsen in de vorm van een mogelijke draaiende bouwlamp of een mogelijke ventilator die voor een lamp aan het draaien was. Dat was aanvankelijk mijn eerste veronderstelling want ik nam waardat het verschijnsel afkomstig was van het terrein van Geelen beton. Door de mist kon ik het terrein niet goed onderscheiden maar ik kon wel vaag de grote mobiele [hijs] kraan waarnemen. 

Plotseling zag ik naarmate ik dichterbij kwam dat er een gevaarte [object] boven de mobiele kraan hing [aanwezig was] wat een draaiende [roterende] beweging had. Ik was toen ter hoogte van hectometerpaaltje 7.8. In de verte recht voor mij zag ik uit de weg links een auto stilstaan net of deze voor mij stopte maar dat was totaal niet nodig want ik was daar nog veel te ver voor uit de buurt. Pas later realiseerde ik mij dat dit voertuig daar is blijven [stil] staan om ook naar het vreemde verschijnsel te kijken. Ik stond toen bijna stil en heb mijn hoofd uit het [portier]raam gestoken om goed te kunnen observeren naar wat het zou kunnen zijn wat ik daar zag. Ik had totaal geen idee maar om het te beschrijven is de volgende omschrijving de meest voor de hand liggende. Het zag eruit als een soort tolvormig voorwerp van ettelijke meters hoog, breed uitlopend naar boven en naar beneden toe in een puntvorming. Althans ik kwam tot die analyse omdat er gekleurde, ik noem het maar verlichte ramen of schijnwerpers van verschillende kleuren waren gepositioneerd. Ik schat zo'n 6 lagen onder elkaar met de kleuren geel, groenachtig en paars-roodachtig. De vorm van een driehoekachtige positie, ik kom toch op de term tol, was een soort van obeliskachtige manifestatie van enkele meters hoog. En ik schat de diameter op het breedste punt ook ettelijke meters. Maar dat was absoluut niet te taxeren. Ik blijf erbij dat dit voorwerp enkele meters boven de mobiele [hijs] kraan van Geelen Beton hing en draaide. Ofschoon het ook erg mistig was kon ik toch voldoende het aanschouwen hetgeen toch zeer en zeer afwijkend was en dat het eigenlijk op het griezelige af was. 

Maar nu komt het. Ik was inmiddels al zachtjes doorgereden want ik had ook in de gaten dat de auto links er nog steeds stond. Ik hoopte deze automobilist[e] te kunnen aanspreken over het vreemde schouwspel waar hij [zij] ook naar heeft staan kijken. Maar plotseling reed deze auto voor mij weg. We waren inmiddels al verder op de provinciale weg N 293 gevorderd op het gedeelte Karkenerweg, met ook inmiddels links de Vlodropperweg en rechts de Boomstraat van Posterholt. De auto voor mij ging rechtdoor naar Karken richting Duitsland maar ik moest rechtsaf de N 274 op richting Koningsbosch. Nu doet het vreemde zich voor. Nadat ik dacht het verschijnsel achter me te hebben gelaten zag ik ineens op de kruising Vlodropperweg links en rechts de Boomstraat Posterholt, het voorwerp rechts van mij meevliegen. Toen had ik het niet meer dat kan ik je verzekeren. Het voorwerp (manifestatie) had dezelfde snelheid als wat ik reed. Een kleine honderd meter zou ik dan vervolgens rechtsaf de N274 opdraaien in de veronderstelling dat het dan of zou verdwijnen of wellicht rechtdoor zou gaan. Opeens zag ik het voorwerp links van mij meegaan, ik schat zo'n 50 meter hoog alsook zo'n 50 meter bij me vandaan. Ik passeerde hectometerpaaltje 21.3 op de N274 op het gedeelte Brunssummerweg. Deze gaat op een gegeven moment over in de Echterboschbaan. Pas toen ik bij hectometerpaaltje ik meen 18.9 was toen heb ik het voorwerp niet meer waargenomen. Maar al die tijd heeft het links van me meebewogen. Toen ik daar tijdens mijn volgende dienst met collega's over sprak zei men dat ik maar eens met een psycholoog moest gaan praten. Ik had het waarschijnlijk "tussen de oren" niet goed zitten, zo oordeelde men over mijn ervaring." 

Tot zover even mijn relaas zoals o.a. opgetekend in mijn boek alwaar ik als beveiliger een reeks van ervaringen heb laten opnemen. Mijn naam is Peter Diepstraten. Inmiddels gepensioneerd.

En om het verhaal compleet te maken, vinden wij een 12 seconden durende opname van dezelfde soort UFO, hangende naast/boven auto’s, wederom in de Amerikaanse staat Minnesota, maar dit keer gemaakt op 19 januari 2017. Een video die nog door bijna niemand is bekeken op een kanaal waar alleen deze video op staat.

While “Swedish hum” sounds like what you do when you don’t know the words to an ABBA song (how is THAT possible?), it’s actually a mysterious and somewhat seasonal noise heard often in Sweden in multiple locations and generally in the winter (yes, Sweden does have other seasons that last longer than a week). What’s causing these strange sounds and will they be in the next Mama Mia! movie?

“It was a constant sound, it was as if the sound gave vibrations in the air. It was for about 45 minutes and then it was very slow as if the sound moved somewhere else.”

That’s from the YouTube site of Rene Krupinksi, which seems to be fast becoming a repository of Swedish hums and other strange Scandinavian sounds. Krupinksi was describing a sound he heard and recorded (hear it here) in December 2017 – a sound that went on for 45 minutes and felt to him as if it was surrounding him rather than coming from any definitive direction. The recording has been making the rounds again recently, indicating it still hasn’t been resolved.

“Early morning in Gothenburg in Sweden i heard this strange trumpet sound. People was looking up when the sound came.”

That trumpet sound (hear it here) was recorded on August 10, 2018.

“I have heard this sound many times, i the middle of the night at at day time. I was reading in the news, the same sound was too in US and England at same time, and it was raported and many people have taking contact to the police to ask. No one knows what it was, but it also was in northern Germany and Denmark.”

To compete the strange sound triple-play of hum, trumpet and boom, Krupinksi uploaded a recording of a boom in Germanyhe claims to have also heard himself. How is it that one person has personally experienced so many strange sounds? Looking at the rest of his YouTube page, Krupinksi appears to be a fan of (and possibly a producer of) electronic music. Perhaps he just has a sensitive ear and recording equipment ready at a moment’s notice to capture the sounds.

“Strange trumpet sound in the sky!!! (trying to film the aurora in the sky). At 2.34 in this vid, the sound is very close. I was experimenting with my camera this evening to film northern lights.”

Or perhaps he lives in the right place. In his comment on an April 2018 recording (hear it here), Krupinksi reveals he was watching the Northern Lights when he heard a trumpet sound. Researchers admit that so-called ‘aurora sounds’ frequently occur during northern lights activities. However, they’re generally short sounds ranging from crackles to machine gun bursts to claps and booms. Because the intensity of these solar magnetic disturbances varies, the sounds are different as well.

That ‘sounds’ reasonable … except to the millions of people in the north who hear the sounds in the Northern Lights off-season, or in the south where there’s no aurora borealis at all. There’s obviously more to these mysterious hums, trumpets and booms than meets the ear. Help solve the mystery by following the example of Rene Krupinksi and spending time outside with audio and video recording devices.

You may want to warn your neighbors first.

Three college students in Phoenix have reported having a supernatural experience during a recent hike on Arizona’s Dreamy Draw Mountain. According to the students, a strangely familiar robed, long-haired figure appeared on top of the mountain, only to vanish as the girls appeared. Even stranger, the apparition left them the best gift three college students could hope to receive: an envelope full of cash.

Just think of all the pumpkin spice lattes that could buy!

It all began as Allisa Miller, Jen Vickman, and Kassi Sanchez were having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day in the way that only privileged college students can have. “It was one of those days where as soon as you wake up, nothing really goes as planned,” Miller told AZFamily.com. “We slept through our alarms so we were really late to get here,” said Vickman. “It was already hot, like we didn’t want to hike,” said Sanchez. “Like something we had to do almost, forced fun,” laughed Miller. Poor girls. First world problems sure are the worst.

The girls overcame the unbearable adversity of waking up late and being hot and made it to the mountain where they began their hike. That’s when things got mysterious. The girls saw a curiously Jesus-like figure standing atop the mountain, but when they reached the spot where he stood, he had vanished.

Probably had a pancake to appear on somewhere.

“We just see a silhouette of this man, it looks like he has long hair and he’s in a robe,” said Miller. “He was like right there on the top of the mountain. We were all just kinda shocked, we just kinda sat there.” While just kinda sitting there, the girls spied an envelope stashed between a few rocks. Opening the envelope, the girls discovered a note with a curious, somewhat rambling inscription quoting the Bible and contemporary Christian rock music and signed only with the letter J. Even better, the envelope contained three $100 bills – one for each hiker.

Of course, the girls believe the experience was a miracle and have found religious meaning in it. As such, they say they won’t spend the money but will save it for the right opportunity to help someone in need.

Experiencing miracles is great and all, but something about this one just feels a bit too coincidental: three girls, three $100 bills, a robed, long-haired man and a noted signed “J.” Was this a miracle on Dreamy Draw Mountain, or merely a good Samaritan hoping to lure a few young people into organized religion? Why go through the effort of wearing a robe up to the top of a mountain? Then again, if the girls plan to merely pay the cash forward, why report it to the news?

The coastline of the Carolinas has become a hotspot for mysteries lately. Just this week, a large unidentified object washed ashore not far from Charleston, South Carolina before being quickly whisked away by unnamed officials. A few months ago, a similarly large and unknown object was discovered a few hours to the north in North Carolina’s Outer Banks and has likewise yet to be identified.

To add to these maritime mysteries, a curious video filmed in South Carolina’s popular tourist haven of Myrtle Beach has Carolinians wondering what exactly is going on in the skies over the coastline. MUFON and UFO Stalker both posted the video which seems to depict either a formation of small lights or one massive object flanked with multiple lights, somewhat similar to the Phoenix Lights. The video was reportedly filmed on August 5th but was reported to MUFON on October 4th.

The Phoenix Lights remain among the most widespread mass sightings in UFO history.

The unnamed individual who filmed the time lapse video was photographing a lightning storm over the Myrtle Beach oceanfront strip of hotels and resorts and reportedly didn’t notice the lights until processing the video later. “I was taking the pictures off the edge of a long pier after dark, so there were no reflective surfaces around,” the videographer toldMUFON. “I did not notice the objects until i returned home and checked the photograph and video.” 

Like most photographic or videographic evidence, it’s difficult to tell exactly what we’re seeing and reflections or other artifacts certainly are plausible and probable explanations – especially given the amount of bright lights along this stretch of the Myrtle Beach strip. Of course, the comments sections on both Myrtle Beach local news sites and UFO Stalker are full of skeptics and believers alike. On MyrtleBeachOnline.com, the prevailing consensus seems to be that the lights are merely reflections or lens flares. Some commenters have pointed out that the formation of lights is somewhat similar to the arrangement of buildings below.

South Carolina is home to both Joint Base Charleston Air Force North and Shaw Air Force Base, both known to conduct drills and exercises along the coast.

Then again, with so many strange things washing ashore along the Carolinas’ coastlines, who knows what the video might depict? Reflections, a military drill, or something stranger?

Saturn has to be both the coolest and weirdest planet in the solar system. It’s so strange that it’s inspired countless conspiracy theories including the, admittedly awesome, idea Saturn is where demons live. No other planet is cool enough to justify that level of insanity. In 2017, the spacecraft Cassini engaged its final suicide mission, hurling itself with all haste into the gas giant and topping off the slew of astounding images it already sent back Earth-side with a detailed analysis of the chemical composition of Saturn’s atmosphere and its signature rings. And wouldn’t you know it, Saturn got even weirder.

According to a new study published in Science, the chemical composition of Saturn’s rings is a far cry from what scientists initially expected. It was long assumed that the rings of Saturn were composed of almost entirely water, but the data from Cassini shows that amidst all that water are other complex chemicals—including a large amount of organic matter such as methane.

Now, the word organic is a pretty loaded term. We’re not talking organic farming here, and they didn’t find the demons. Organic, in the chemical sense, means chemicals that include carbon in their molecular structure. While they are certainly not saying that they found life in Saturn’s rings, organic compounds do form the basis of all life.

According to Thomas Cravens, professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Kansas and co-author of the paper:

“What was a surprise was the mass spectrometer saw methane — no one expected that. Also, it saw some carbon dioxide, which was unexpected. The rings were thought to be entirely water. But the innermost rings are fairly contaminated, as it turns out, with organic material caught up in ice.”

The researchers also found that the rings are expelling these chemical compounds into Saturn’s atmosphere, and may be gradually changing the chemical makeup of the planet. According to Cravens:

The material is coming into Saturn at high speeds because the rings are moving faster than the atmosphere quite a bit. It doesn’t just drop in gently. It comes flying in there like a satellite re-entering our own planet. These dust grains moving at satellite speed, depositing energy that can dissociate the atmosphere.

How can you not love this huge, weird, and creepy thing?

According to the scientists, this new understanding of Saturn’s rings and atmosphere can help us better understand the underlying processes of the solar system at large, including how planetary rings are formed in the first place, and how long they last. Unfortunately for old Saturn, the data seems to suggest that the rings are slowly being depleted. They’re expelling matter faster than they’re being refilled. As Cravens put it, there’s “a hole in the bucket.” This may also suggest that Jupiter’s now nearly invisible ring was once as impressive as Saturn’s.

It seems that the more we learn, the more unanswered questions are revealed. With our technology progressing faster and faster, giving us more detailed windows into our mysterious neighbors there’s no telling what we could find. It’s probably demons, though.

Amazing UFO Near Trees At Sterling City, Texas On Oct 2018, Video, UFO Sighting News.

Now I passed this by for a second, dismissing it as a fake...but then decided to take a second look and carefully look at the photos. I took the screenshot and added light, which revealed the ground and the trees nearby. I then realised its 100% legit...and that was exciting. Its not often a UFO of this size and focus is captured. 

The UFO was captured by a UFO researcher channel called Sterling City UFOs...in Texas. Click that name to subscribe to their channel or miss out. 

I put the screenshots into a gif so you can see me adding light and see the full picture. The first photo in the gif is the original, unaltered. Wow, this reminds me of the legendary Billy Meier UFO photos, which also had UFOs of this detail near trees. So awesome. This made my week.

When an object falls from space with a trail this big...it should in world news...yet nothing about this object exists except this one video by an eyewitness. "Thought maybe a plane was crashing saw a light descending then a black piece came off...My daughter and I were driving to the store. We both noticed a light in the sky ahead of us and it looked like it was descending. I said is that a plane crashing ? We couldn’t figure out what the orange like light was. I pulled over and we saw a black piece come off. I thought maybe an explosion was next and we stopped the car to look.

Then the light moved and a trail seemed to follow. But then it hovered. We watched as it began to move again stop and then a trail. It was very slow. We were bewildered. Never saw anything like it. We decided to drive the direction but then lost it in the trees. We were both very confused for quite a while we kept looking for another half an hour. Not sure what it was, seemed to slow for a meteor or fireball. The black piece that came off was also very confusing"

Mysterious Humming Sound in the Sky recorded in Sweden

A puzzling piece for footage from Sweden features a mysterious humming sound that was said to have reverberated through the air for an astounding 45 minutes. The eerie scene was filmed back in December.

According to the witness, he noticed the odd sound while in northern Sweden at what looks to be a snow-covered mountaintop. He says that the humming noise was constant and seemed to almost vibrate the air.

Although he expressed certainty that the hum was coming from the sky, the witness conceded that he couldn't quite determine from which direction it was emanating as it appeared to be coming from every direction.

He also noted that he has visited the location before and that it is "usually a very quiet place," what made the odd hum all the more mystifying. Eventually, after nearly an hour, he says, the noise dissipated as if it had "moved somewhere else."

The sound heard by the witness in Sweden may be connected to the larger mystery hum phenomenon which has been reported in various parts of the world in recent years.

According to coasttocoastam, theories for what may be causing these sounds range from the conspiratorial, such as clandestine military weaponry, air displacement caused by slow-moving huge UFOs to prosaic possibilities involving natural events surrounding the magnetic field of the Earth.

Atlantis is the Holy Grail of mythical islands and nations. First mentioned by Plato, his writings led those searching for it to the Atlantic Ocean, hoping to find the actual island or one that could have inspired the myth. While it has never officially been found, there’s no lack of ancient maps showing its location in the Atlantic. Many frustrated with finding it there have gravitated to other bodies of water where the lighting is better and the islands are easier to find — suspecting those making the original reports were confused, using it allegorically or perpetrating a hoax. That tendency exists even today, as a historian now claims a small rock island near Ireland is actually Atlantis peeking out from the ocean depths. Is it big enough for a hotel and a cruise ship dock?

“Part of it is still above water.”

Rockall

Matt Sibson, creator of the Ancient Architects YouTube channel, claims in an interview with The Daily Star that he believes the tiny granite island of Rockall in the North Atlantic is the highest point of the sunken Atlantis. Located about 300 km (187 miles) west of Scotland, 420 km (263.0 miles) northwest of Ireland and 700 km (440 miles) south of Iceland, Rockall belongs to the UK as a part of Scotland, although Ireland seems to want this place, which is classified by the United Nations as one of those “rocks which cannot sustain human habitation or economic life of their own.” (Sounds like some places in the U.S. too.) That could change with all of the tourism business generated when Sibson convinces the world it’s Atlantis. If only he had an old map.

Actually, he does, but on it (and some others, including the infamous Zeno map which is a proven hoax) the spot currently occupied by Rockall is called Frisland or Friesland (which is also the name of an unrelated province of the Netherlands).

“Friesland has never been officially identified but featured in many maps between the 1500s and 1600s, before disappearing completely. Why would they make up an island completely in the middle of the ocean? I think there was something huge there, and there is still something there now to prove it – the last remaining part of Friesland.”

Sibson also has a modern, not mythological, reason for the disappearance of Frisland multiple times dating back to 13,000 years ago when Plato’s Atlantis allegedly was still above water … climate change.

“This was when Earth was coming out of the Ice Age and everything was getting warmer but, all of a sudden, about 12,900 years ago, it went freezing cold again. Then about 1000 years later it warmed again and it has been getting warmer to this day.”

Sibson also works in a comet hit, which is a theoretical but still unproven occurrence about the same time that may have created earthquakes, tsunamis and other stresses to the Earth’s crust, causing … you guessed it … the island of Frisland/Atlantis to sink into the Atlantic. Subsequent environmental changes could explain its alleged reappearance and subsequent disappearance on maps from 1500s/1600s and the existence of all that’s left … Rockall.

That’s a lot of extrapolation (which Sibson admits) between the three remote dots of Plato’s writings, old and potentially unreliable maps of a disappearing island, and a tiny disputed rock islet. Some searches of Rockall and especially the area around it would probably resolve this. Actually, they’ve already taken place. In 2013, surveys by Marine Scotland didn’t find evidence of Frisland or Atlantis but did discover four new species – a sea snail, two clams and a marine worm – living around a cold seep, which is a crack in the ocean floor where hot hydrocarbons leak out.

You don’t suppose that crack could be related to the disappearance of Frisland, do you?

RESEARCHERS IDENTIFY THE “MISSING LINK” IN THE CHEMISTRY OF SATURN’S LARGEST MOON

Team Titan

Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, is weird. Really weird. Its atmosphere is unlike that of any other moon in our entire solar system — in fact, it’s a lot like what scientists believe Earth’s was like during its first billion years.

Titan’s atmosphere also includes organic compounds called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), precursors to the molecules that gave rise to life on Earth. Previously, we thought they could only form under high-temperature conditions. But the average surface temperature on Titan is a frigid -179 degrees Celsius (-290 degrees Fahrenheit).

Now, researchers think they’ve found the “missing link” that explains how Titan’s atmosphere could include these compounds. The knowledge could better our understanding of our own planet’s infancy and provide new clues in the search for extraterrestrial life.

Early Earth

In a study published Monday in the journal Nature Astronomy, U.S. and Russian researchers show how gases already known to exist on Titan could have combined to produce PAHs. They did this using a combination of computer simulations and practical experiments.

The finding isn’t remarkable simply because it teaches us something new about Titan — it could also help us better understand Earth’s history.

“The gas make up of Titan is similar to prebiotic Earth — hydrocarbons and nitrogen and the absence of oxygen — hence, scientists are keen to see how chemistry is evolving or has evolved on Titan to provide clues to Earth’s atmospheric content,” Berkeley researcher and study author Musahid Ahmed told Futurism.

The better we can understand the conditions that led to the formation of the Earth as we know it, the better equipped we’ll be to figure out exactly what conditions are necessary for the formation of life — and where we might want to look for it elsewhere in the universe.

California Object

Santa Cruz — She was outside with her dog on October 2, 2018, and saw a glowing white object. It was not a jet plane which regularly pass over going north to SFO. This object was traveling in different direction and was glowing white and moving slowly from SE to NW. She took one photo on her I-Phone and sent it to me (her friend) via Facebook. I looked at the photo with a strong magnifying glass and saw a glowing white saucer shape with dome center, ‘the classic UFO”. She was especially taken by the whiteness of the object at 6:41 PM PST. New Jersey Object

 Holmdel — I was flying my drone (A parrot bebop 2) shooting video at 1080p 30 frames per second, just ascending to do a 7 minute flight on September 3, 2018. It wasn’t until I reviewed the video that I saw the object fly in and out of exactly one frame at an incredible rate of speed.
At first I didn’t notice it because the speed seems to almost make it invisible. Then something caught my eye.
I slowed down the video using movie. If I have the frame rate speed correct that means it moved in 0.04 seconds .
Its trajectory would have blown apart the trees or made some sort of sound. It was practically silent. I put in the stills from the video where I circled the object. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Minnesota Circle

Bloomington — My husband and I were driving home from Minneapolis, and when we exited the highway on September 30, 2018, we saw a small-ish band of light in the sky. As we continued on the road, the circular “orb-ish” object appeared to get larger, with about a dozen points of brighter light, with a slightly dimmer ring connecting them.

It’s just hovering in the sky, no movement.

North Myrtle Beach — We had just finished an early supper at Outback Restaurant on September 9, 2018 with our Little League baseball team and parents around 5:30 pm. We were saying goodbye when one of the players asked me “What’s that?” pointing to the sky. We all looked up and observed a white circular object sitting stationary high in the sky. It was a very warm evening on September 28, 2019. My girlfriend and I were sitting in our back yard enjoying looking at the stars. I had my Luna Optics LN-DB60 HD Digital, Night vision binoculars with a recorder and was searching the sky and recording occasionally for practice. My girlfriend noticed a bright light in the sky and at first we thought it was an airplane. I started filming the object and noticed it was moving a bit slower than the airplanes and the light was brighter and steady. It moved across the northern sky from west to east silently. La Hulpe — On the evening of September 29, 2018, I decided to perform my night ritual to look for the UFOs,  I am used to seeing. But that evening, I saw something different; a round light stagnated in the sky behind trees. So I decided to record this unique moment with my Samsung s6 phone.

 Saint Bathans — We pulled into the lake to take photos that is only meters from the “haunted historical St Bathans Hotel”. My partner and I observed the lake and as I’m an avid photographer, took many photos. The only real observation while in the location was the “weird shape” of what we thought was the sun. Something has dawned upon me while writing this, the photos were taken at 14.25. This particular photo was taken on my iPhone with a fast shutter speed.

London — It’s an older video that I’ve just got around to sharing. It’s perhaps nothing but in January 2017 my family and I observed an object at high altitude that appeared flashing and at very high altitude moving steadily across the sky in a northerly direction.

Mysterious lights caught on a time-lapse video recorded from a pier in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in early August have triggered conspiracy theorists who claim the footage is evidence of a UFO sighting.

The recording, which shows lights hovering in the night sky above a Myrtle Beach pier, was captured on August 5 and later uploaded onto website Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) on October 4.

The footage was also shared on YouTube on Sunday by user UFO Zone, who stated in the video's description that it shows a "massive ‘spaceship'" lingering above the area during a thunderstorm.

​"I was taking the pictures off the edge of a long pier after dark, so there were no reflective surfaces around," the unidentified filmer who shared the recording with the site wrote. "I did not notice the objects until I returned home and checked the photograph and video."

The individual noted that they had been intending to simply capture "pictures and time-lapse [video] of the incoming storm."

Commenters on both MUFON and UFO Zone's page were quick to shut down the claims being made, with some suggesting the lights were "all internal camera lens reflections."

"It's just lens flare from the bright pinpoint lights below in one of the lens elements," Buzz K wrote on YouTube. "Nothing to see here. Move along back to your Bud Light. Dilly dilly."

Another unconvinced user wrote, "I think I saw bigfoot on the ferris wheel."

The latest reporting on puzzling and eyebrow-raising content comes days after a "mysterious object" washed ashore on South Carolina's Seabrook Island. Photos of the suspicious object were uploaded and shared on Facebook by the state's Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network, a nonprofit tasked with increasing awareness and education regarding marine mammals of the Palmetto State.

"There's no metal on it. The whole thing is just layers of foam," Lauren Rust, founder and executive director of the nonprofit, told the Charleston Post and Courier. "It also doesn't look like it's been in the water that long. You'd think if it were in the water [for a long period of time], it would be covered in barnacles and all sorts of [sea life]."

Last call if we want to save the planet from devastating climate change, scientists warn

A new IPCC report suggests that the world is completely off track when it comes to limiting climate change to 1.5 degrees Celsius — instead, we’re more likely to go towards 3 degrees. The window isn’t shut just yet, but we need to act now, otherwise, the worldwide damage would be massive.

Things have only gotten worse since 2015.

“Act now, idiots”

The world is heating up. We can put our heads in the sand all we want, but the fact is temperatures are rising as a result of us burning CO2 — and it’s time to act. Three years ago, in Paris, world leaders made a necessary first step: they agreed to take measures to limit at 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. They even snuck in the more ambitious goal of sticking to 1.5C. While many rightfully feel that the Paris Agreement is not nearly enough and we need much more ambitious actions, it was still a critical step in the right direction. Finally, it seemed that the world had come together to tackle climate change. But in the three years that have passed, politicians have not brought about that much change. This is where the new report comes in.

The 33-page report titled ‘Summary for Policymakers’ was published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a scientific and intergovernmental body that provides a scientific view of climate change and its political and economic impacts. The IPCC is essentially the leading body monitoring climate change research, which they use to provide recommendations to policymakers.

The picture this report paints is essentially saying that our planet is feverish because of us, and we need massive investments to curb this heating.

“Scientists might want to write in capital letters, ‘ACT NOW, IDIOTS,’ but they need to say that with facts and numbers,” said Kaisa Kosonen, of Greenpeace, who was an observer at the negotiations. “And they have.”

We must try and stick to 1.5C

Although the report bears clear scars of political interference, it still makes a few clear and undiluted points. Among them, it urges leaders to understand that there’s a huge difference between 1.5C and 2C, and we need to aim for the former, not the latter.

“The first is that limiting warming to 1.5C brings a lot of benefits compared with limiting it to two degrees. It really reduces the impacts of climate change in very important ways,” said Prof Jim Skea, who co-chairs the IPCC.

“The second is the unprecedented nature of the changes that are required if we are to limit warming to 1.5C – changes to energy systems, changes to the way we manage land, changes to the way we move around with transportation.”

A 2C warming would likely destroy around 13% of the world’s ecosystems, it would drive coral reefs essentially extinct, and cause dramatic risk for a massive number of animal and insect species. The Arctic would be completely ice-free once or twice a decade, and for most humans, summer temperatures would simply be unbearably hot. By the end of the century, the situation would likely escalate to a full-blown disaster — and considering the scale of things, the end of the century is really not that far off.

If we manage to stick to 1.5C, that risk would be halved. But according to current projections, we’ll reach 1.5C by 2030. This seemingly small difference of a half a degree is absolutely huge. The world is already 1C warmer than pre-industrial levels, and we’re already seeing the effects.

“It’s a line in the sand and what it says to our species is that this is the moment and we must act now,” said Debra Roberts, a co-chair of the working group on impacts. “This is the largest clarion bell from the science community and I hope it mobilises people and dents the mood of complacency.”

A half of degree

The one good thing the report highlights is that we still can remain in the 1.5C warming interval — but we need massive investments, from both governments and individuals, and we need them as soon as possible.

Using electric cars can make a big difference, the report highlights.

The core of the action is transitioning to renewable energy. A 1.5C scenario requires us to generate around 75-80% of our energy from renewable sources, such as wind and solar. We also need to expand reforestation efforts, to take advantage of trees’ ability to suck out carbon out of the air. This, however, requires 2.5% of global gross domestic product (GDP), the value of all goods and services produced, for two decades, something which most governments don’t seem convinced to invest in.

Even so, this would still require us to develop technologies to take carbon out of the atmosphere and store it safely underground by the end of the century. This technology is already in its nascent stages, and there’s a good chance it will be developed in a few decades, given proper investments.

The big problem, of course, is the 2.5% GDP figure. However, it’s important to keep in mind that we’re not talking about sending money down the drain. There’s a good chance that much of that figure will be gained back by avoiding damage caused by climate-related events such as droughts and hurricanes. There’s actually a very good chance that we will get a return on this investment.

“Every extra tonne of carbon that we dump into the atmosphere today is a tonne that will have to be scrubbed out at the end of the century,” says Myles Allen, a climate scientist at the University of Oxford, UK, and one of the lead authors of the report.

“I think we need to start a debate about who is going to pay for it, and whether it’s right for the fossil-fuel industry and its customers to be enjoying the benefits today and expecting the next generation to pay for cleaning it up,” Allen says.

Globally, 2.5% of GDP is a huge sum, and as Allen hints, no one will likely want to pay for it — even though, at the end of the day, we all have a lot to gain from it. We just need to convince policymakers to act on it. But it’s not just politicians that need to act.

What all of us can do

The problem of climate change can seem overwhelming. Here’s a huge problem that requires international, large-scale cooperation, and we’re all just one person. But each and every one of us can still make a big difference, as the IPCC report also highlights. We all have the power to change things. Dr. Debra Roberts, the IPCC’s other co-chair, explains:

“That’s a very empowering message for the individual,” she said. “This is not about remote science; it is about where we live and work, and it gives us a cue on how we might be able to contribute to that massive change, because everyone is going to have to be involved.”

“You might say you don’t have control over land use, but you do have control over what you eat and that determines land use. We can choose the way we move in cities and if we don’t have access to public transport – make sure you are electing politicians who provide options around public transport.”

Some simple lifestyle measures include:

• buying and eating less meat, particularly beef;
• buying and eating less cheese and butter;
• eating more locally sourced foods;
• wasting less food;
• driving an electric or hybrid car;
• using public transportation, biking, or walking;
• using videoconferences instead of business travel;
• using a washing line instead of a tumbling dryer;
• insulating houses;
• demanding clean energy and low-carbon in every product we consume.

Bizarre footage has emerged showing triangular orbs in the sky above Mexico City.

The video, uploaded by the YouTube channel 'colourufo,' has been dubbed 'absolute proof' of alien life, with the filmer claiming the strange clip shows "multiple" UFOs.

The video reportedly captured on Sunday shows a white light moving from right to left before it speeds up and disappears.

The uploader then replays the video in slow motion, which appears to give the white light a more triangular shape, as if a 'shield' has formed around it.

The video was picked up by UFO researcher Scott C. Waring who commented on his UFO sightings blog: "This video was made by a UFO researcher in Australia watching the live Mexico City cam.

"He is famous for his hard work in the field and this time he caught an amazing Pyramid UFO that is semi cloaked moving through the clouds."

"I have heard of pyramid clouds, but very few legit reports come in like this one," his blog post continued.

"As you see the cam takes a photo every few seconds so there is a jump in-between, but the UFO is seen in many still shots.

"Absolute proof that aliens are active in Mexico," he concluded."

Triangular and pyramid UFO sightings have become quite common in recent years, particularly above north and central America, but not everyone thinks they're aliens visiting Earth.

Often referred to as 'Black Triangles', some UFO experts claim people are actually seeing a top secret US spy aircraft known as TR-3B.

One of the most recent sightings occurred above Seattle, Washington in September.

Limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees versus 2 has big benefits, the IPCC says

Scientists hope a new climate report will jump-start policy decisions to reduce emissions

Half a degree can make a world of difference.

If Earth warms by just 1.5 degrees Celsius over preindustrial times by 2100, rather than 2 degrees, we would see fewer life-threatening heat, drought and precipitation extremes, less sea level rise and fewer species lost.

Those findings are detailed in a report, a summary of which was released October 8, by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, following its weeklong meeting in Incheon, South Korea. “This will be one of the most important meetings in the IPCC’s history,” Hoesung Lee, a climate economist at Korea University in South Korea and current IPCC chair, said in his opening address October 1. 

To compile the report, the scientists sifted through more than 6,000 papers probing the impact of a global temperature hike of 1.5 degrees, sometimes working through the night, says Natalie Mahowald, a climate scientist at Cornell University and one of the report’s coauthors. But the long hours were worth it: The report’s message is compelling and urgent, she says. “Such a small change in temperature will have big impacts on people.”

Three years ago, in 2015, 195 nations signed onto the Paris agreement to curb greenhouse gas emissions sufficiently to limit global warming to “well below” 2 degrees by 2100 (SN: 1/9/16, p. 6). Getting all the delegates on the same 2-degree-warming page was a hard-won victory. But many scientists have warned that the 2-degree target isn’t stringent enough to prevent major environmental changes affecting everything from sea level rise to water scarcity to habitat loss. During the Paris talks, more than 100 nations — including many of those most vulnerable to climate change, such as the island nation of the Maldives and drought-stricken Angola — called for a lower warming target of 1.5 degrees.

At the time, Lee noted in his Oct. 1 address, scientists knew relatively little about how to compare the risks of a 1.5-degree-warmer world with a 2-degree-warmer world. So, as part of the decision to adopt the Paris agreement, the nations invited the IPCC to prepare a report assessing those impacts.

As it turns out, the differences are stark between the two warming targets, as outlined in the new report, titled “Global Warming of 1.5° C.”  In addition to fewer heat, rain and drought extremes, the impact on future sea levels would be significant. A half a degree less warming means about 0.1 meters less sea level rise on average by the next century. As a result, at least 10 million fewer people would be exposed to such risks as flooding, infrastructure damage and saltwater intrusion into freshwater resources, the report found.

Somewhere between 1.5 degrees and 2 degrees, the planet’s great ice sheets may become increasingly unstable, further increasing the potential for sea level rise. And, in the 1.5-degree warming scenario, the Arctic Ocean is projected to be ice-free during the summer only once per century. That would happen once a decade under the 2-degree scenario.  

As for the planet’s other denizens, a lower temperature increase would mean less risk of habitat loss for many insect, plant and animal species compared with a full 2 degrees of warming, the report notes (SN: 6/9/18, p. 6). And other climate-related risks to these species, including forest fires and the spread of invasive species, would be less under that lower warming threshold.

Much of the data analyzed in the report has been published in scientific journals over the last two years, and wasn’t available when the Paris agreement was signed. The London-based website Carbon Brief published an interactive infographic on October 4 that summarizes the results of 70 such 1.5-degree studies that show the impacts of warming targets on everything from future sea level rise to heatwaves to hurricanes.

Despite building a case for a lower temperature target, the trick will be how to get there. In 2017, the Paris accords faced a major setback when President Donald Trump announced that the United States, a major contributor to the greenhouse gases that drive warming, would pull out of the agreement. Achieving an even more stringent target seems particularly daunting.

The IPCC report examines various possible paths that scientists have examined to limit the environmental impacts of warming. Among the variables considered in these paths are when emissions are projected to reach net zero, when the amount of carbon released to the atmosphere is balanced by the amount that is being removed. Another variable is how many more emissions will be allowable in the meantime — a concept known as the carbon budget.

But almost all of the projected pathways to 1.5 degrees have one thing in common, says Zeke Hausfather, a climate scientist with Carbon Brief: They overshoot that temperature threshold somewhere around 2050. “They all exceed it — and then back down,” he says.

To overshoot the mark by only a small amount, or not at all, requires reducing emissions by about 45 percent relative to 2010 levels by the year 2030, and reaching zero around 2050, the IPCC report notes. In comparison, to get to “below 2 degrees Celsius,” emissions must decline by about 20 percent by the year 2030 and reach zero by about 2075.

Barring such early, deep cuts, it will take “negative emissions” to bring the temperatures back down after overshooting the mark mid-century. Negative emissions are, essentially, a hoped-for reduction in emissions due to future technologies that will be able to remove enough carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to reverse the greenhouse effect.

Those technologies, such as carbon capture and storage, are not yet commercially viable. And reversing the effects of the greenhouse warming is not so straightforward: “By and large, it’s generally true that there’s a linear relationship between warming and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, as long as both are increasing,” Hausfather says. “But once you start sucking carbon out of the atmosphere, that linear relationship breaks. You need more negative emissions to reduce temperatures than positive emissions to increase them.”

It’s uncertain how — or if — policy makers will be able to use the findings to reshape the climate accords. During the 2015 Paris talks, a proposed 1.5-degree target was met with strong resistance from nations that would need to be on board, particularly China.

And President Trump’s administration gave a hint of its reaction when, in July, it released an environmental impact statement on the White House’s plan to freeze federal fuel efficiency standards for cars and light trucks built after 2020. With current levels of greenhouse gas emissions, global temperatures are currently on track to rise by 4 degrees compared to preindustrial times by 2100 — and freezing the standards will further increase those emissions, the report acknowledged. But the study recommended the freeze anyway, stating that moving away from fossil fuels to make deep cuts in carbon emissions would require innovations that are “not currently technologically feasible or economically feasible.”

The challenges may seem insurmountable. But this special report — and the two years of intense research that led up to it — has also forced scientists to reassess some assumptions about what’s possible, says Kaisa Kosonen, a Helsinki-based climate policy adviser at Greenpeace International who traveled to South Korea for the meeting. Including certain factors, such as better energy efficiency in the future, can lead to “results you didn’t know even existed,” she says. “I’ve been inspired by how much optimism there still is among scientists.”

Indeed, one of the key messages from the report is that holding warming to 1.5 degrees “is not impossible,” Mahowald says. “But it will require really ambitious efforts, and the sooner the better. We have to start cutting emissions now. We have to be very ambitious on sustainable energy and sustainable agriculture,” she says. And, she notes, achieving the goal will require people to undergo behavioral changes as well, from energy conservation to changes in diet.

But people would also face huge adjustments in a world that’s 2 degrees warmer, or even higher, Mahowald warns. So despite the challenges, “it still might be easier to reach 1.5 than to adapt to those higher temperatures.”

Ce clip a été tourné à Mexico dimanche.

Il a été téléchargé sur YouTube par la chaîne australienne UFO channel colourufo mais elle a été reprise par le chercheur extraterrestre Scott C. Waring.

Et ces images l’ont amené à revendiquer une forme de vie extraterrestre.

M. Waring a écrit sur son site Web UFO Sightings Daily : “ColourUFO a repéré un OVNI triangulaire étonnant qui est à à moitié occulté et se déplace à travers les nuages.”

Ice spikes on Europa could be threatening for future missions

When it comes to space exploration, few things are as exciting as Europa. Sure, the Earth’s moon or Mars spark our imagination, but Europa is much more likely to host life — beneath its frozen surface.

Slightly smaller than Earth’s Moon, Europa is primarily made of silicate rock, but because it’s so far away from the Sun, its surface is completely frozen. Initially, astronomers didn’t give much attention to it, but the Galileo mission (launched in 1989) showed that there’s much more to Europa than meets the eye.

Current models now show that heat from tidal flexing causes the subsurface to stay liquid, enabling the Jovian moon to host an ocean of liquid water, right beneath its surface. Since liquid water is crucial for life as we know it, this makes Europa a prime candidate — and to make things even better, astronomers provided strong evidence of water plume activity on Europa, suggesting that the ocean is interacting with the seafloor, having tectonic-like activity. All of this makes Europa a prime candidate for searching extraterrestrial life.

But if we want to really see if there’s life on Europa, we need to send a lander mission there, and that’s not gonna be easy. A new paper published today in Nature Geoscience suggests that Europa’s jagged surface will make any landing mission even more difficult due to a phenomenon that’s also present on Earth: the so-called penitentes.

The penitentes were formally described by Charles Darwin in 1839: giant, blade-like ice features in the Andes mountains. When the weather is very dry and cold, the sun’s warm rays can cause parts of the ice and snow to undergo sublimation (turn from ice into vapour, without first becoming liquid).

“On Earth, the sublimation of massive ice deposits at equatorial latitudes under cold and dry conditions in the absence of any liquid melt leads to the formation of spiked and bladed textures eroded into the surface of the ice. These sublimation-sculpted blades are known as penitentes,” researchers write in the study.

A similar process has been observed on Pluto, for instance, so we know that it can happen on extraterrestrial bodies. Daniel Hobley of Cardiff University and his team investigated the conditions that could give rise to Penitentes on icy worlds such as Europa.

In a study released Monday, scientists say they've found evidence of huge, jagged "ice spikes," some 50 feet tall, on the moon's surface.

They found that conditions on Europa favour the development of penitentes, particularly at latitudes below 23°, which in turn, could threaten potential future missions.

“Although available images of Europa have insufficient resolution to detect surface roughness at the multi-metre scale, radar and thermal data are consistent with our interpretation. We suggest that penit }entes could pose a hazard to a future lander on Europa,” the study concludes.

Both NASA and ESA have Europa flyby missions scheduled for the 2020s.
