Musician Deletes Footage of "UFO" Captured from Airplane Window
A still image of the object from Capelle’s video.
(Leah Capelle / Twitter)
Los Angeles-based musician Leah Capelle shared a video to Twitter on February 3rd of what appears to be an unidentified flying object outside the window of a passenger jet leaving Chicago.
"Okay y'all, when I was flying home from Chicago I saw something spooky; my gut instinct was UFO but figured that couldn't be possible so then I thought military drone, but [I don’t know]," the accompanying caption read. "Thoughts?"
Capelle has since deleted the video, but not before it was taken and uploaded to the Latest UFO Sightings (LUFOS) YouTube channel.
The speed with which Capelle deleted the video had some wondering why she did so.
"Why was it already deleted from Twitter?" one viewer asked. "This is weird to me, if it was a hoax for attention they would leave it up as long as possible."
"Especially the [woman who shared the video] being a young musician and trying to gain a following," replied another viewer. "You would think she would leave it up for exposure. But instead, it seemed she got spooked or overwhelmed by people storming her with questions. She may also be questioning herself on what exactly was seen."
Other commenters on the LUFOS YouTube page wondered if the government or “men in black” were responsible for pressuring Capelle into removing the video.
Capelle had been responding to comments prior to the video’s deletion sometime on or before February 5th, including the following exchange.
"I saw something very similar in 2014," Bayardo Gonzalez said. "It was three white spheres/orbs in triangle formation. I did not see them move as fast as yours. They just followed the plane for a bit."
"So crazy, dang," replied Capelle.
"It makes you think...Did I just see what I think I saw?" Gonzalez asked. "Good you got it on video. How many did you see? I couldn’t tell if it was just one. I did not have a smartphone back in 2014 so I do not have video."
"I only saw one but it was moving so fast it’s hard to tell," replied Capelle.
“This needs to be news,” said Capelle during another Twitter exchange.
She did not reply to comments regarding the video’s authenticity or inquiries regarding its deletion.
In the video, Capelle first seems to notice the object hovering above some solar panels, while someone next to her is filming. She then grabs the camera to better record the image herself.
Capelle can be heard speaking with another person, whose voice is muffled, while viewing the object.
“Oh sh*t,” Capelle says. “Whoa, what is that?”
“Do you see that?” asks the other person.
"It’s like teleporting, it’s like a vacuum," Capelle says. "That’s insane."
A white object can be seen in the video entering the frame before disappearing and then reappearing onscreen. After reappearing, it quickly flies offscreen and the video ends.
Many who’ve seen the video are convinced that it represents authentic footage of an unexplained phenomenon.
Debunkers, in the absence of corroborating evidence from other passengers, have asserted that it’s a hoax created with video editing software.
The Singular Fortean Society’s photo and video analyst Emily Wayland said it’s too soon for definitive judgments.
"It’s impossible to know for sure without the original footage, but this could have been done with relatively common computer software," she said. "However, it’s not that easy to do. You’d have to be decently skilled to do it."
Investigator Tobias Wayland reached out to Capelle to ask if she would agree to an interview, and any subsequent response will be publishedas it is received.
Three robotic explorers launched by three different nations are due to reach Mars within days of each other, after hurtling hundreds of millions of miles through space.
The United Arab Emirates' orbiter, called Hope, reaches Mars on Tuesday, followed less than 24 hours later by China's orbiter-rover combo, Tianwen-1.
NASA's rover, Perseverance, will arrive a week later, on February 18, to collect rocks for return to Earth – a key step in determining whether life ever existed on Mars.
The $3 billion Perseverance mission is the first leg in a US-European effort to bring Mars samples to Earth in the next decade.
Hope, Tianwen-1 and Perseverance all launched within 12 days of each other in the second half of July last year.
The UAE, China and the US took advantage of a period last July when Mars and Earth were favourably aligned to launch their exploratory missions to the Red Planet.

Hope, which was the first of the three to launch, on July 19 from Japan's Tanegashima Space Center, will not land on the Martian surface but take readings from the Red Planet's atmosphere.
It will help answer key questions about the Martian atmosphere and the loss of hydrogen and oxygen gases into space over the span of one Martian year or nearly two Earth years.
Called Amal, or Hope in Arabic, the Gulf nation's spacecraft is seeking an especially high orbit – 13,500 by 27,000 miles high – to monitor Martian weather.
'We are quite excited as engineers and scientists, at the same time quite stressed and happy, worried, scared,' said Omran Sharaf, project manager for the UAE, in anticipation of the first of the three scheduled arrivals.
Six spacecraft currently are operating around Mars – three from the US, two from Europe and one from India. The UAE hopes to make it seven with its mission.

Meanwhile, China's craft, which consists of an orbiter, lander and rover, measures just over six feet in height (1.85m) and weighs 530 pounds (240kg).
Called Tianwen-1, or 'Quest for Heavenly Truth', it is due to enter Mars orbit on Wednesday, February 10, but it will remain paired in orbit until May, when the rover separates to descend to the surface.
Once the rover gets to Mars, it will survey the composition, types of substance, geological structure and meteorological environment of the Martian surface, and look for signs of alien life.
China successfully launched Tianwen-1 on July 23 aboard a Long March 5 Y-4 carrier rocket from Wenchang Space Launch Centre on the southern island province of Hainan, China.
China's mission includes a Mars orbiter, that will carry the lander and rover until release, a lander, that will parachute down the the surface carrying the rover, and a rover that will study the planet's soil and atmosphere for signs of life
If all goes well, Tianwen-1 will make China only the second country to land successfully on the Red Planet.
Both the UAE and China are newcomers to Mars, where more than half of Earth's emissaries have failed.
This is not China's first attempt at Mars – in 2011, a Chinese orbiter accompanying a Russian mission was lost when the spacecraft failed to get out of Earth's orbit after launching from Kazakhstan, eventually burning up in the atmosphere.

Lastly, Perseverance, which was the last of the three to blast off last July, will land on the Martian surface on February 18.
The one-ton Perseverance rover is larger and more elaborate than Tianwen-1's rover, but it will similarly prowl for signs of ancient microscopic life.
'To say we're pumped about it, well that would be a huge understatement,' said Lori Glaze, NASA's planetary science director.
About the size of an SUV, the rover will dive in straight away for a harrowing sky-crane touchdown at the 30-mile-diameter Jezero Crater – an ancient river delta that seems a logical spot for somewhere that once harboured life.

Perseverance rover, bottom, landing on Mars. Hundreds of critical events must execute perfectly and exactly on time for the rover to land safely on February 18, 2021
This landing zone in Jezero Crater is so treacherous that NASA cancelled it for Curiosity, but so tantalising that scientists are keen to get hold of its rocks.
'When the scientists take a look at a site like Jezero Crater, they see the promise, right?' said Al Chen, who is in charge of the entry, descent and landing team at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
'When I look at Jezero, I see danger. There's danger everywhere.'
Steep cliffs, deep pits and fields of rocks could cripple or doom Perseverance, following its seven-minute atmospheric plunge.
With an 11-and-a-half-minute communication lag each way, the rover will be on its own, unable to rely on flight controllers.
The odds are in NASA's favour, however, as it has nailed eight of its nine attempted Mars landings.

Once landed, the six-wheeled Perseverance will drive across Jezero, collecting core samples of the most enticing rocks and gravel.
Perseverance is carrying seven instruments that will analyse samples from the surface, including an advanced panoramic camera, a ground-penetrating radar and an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer for analysis of chemical elements.
The NASA rover, which launched from Florida on July 30, will set the samples aside for retrieval by a fetch rover launching in 2026.
Under an elaborate multi-billion plan still being worked out by NASA and the European Space Agency, the geologic treasure would arrive on Earth in the early 2030s.
There are multiple missions to Mars in 2020 due to its optimum position relative to Earth, making journeys shorter than they would be otherwise
A handout photo released by the China National Space Administration (CNSA) on 05 February 2021 shows the first image of Mars captured by China's Tianwen-1 unmanned probe (issued 06 February 2021). According to CNSA, the image was taken about 2.2 million kilometres from Mars
Scientists contend it is the only way to ascertain whether life flourished on a wet, watery Mars three billion to four billion years ago.
NASA's science mission chief, Thomas Zurbuchen, considers it 'one of the hardest things ever done by humanity and certainly in space science'.
The US is still the only country to successfully land on Mars, beginning with the 1976 Vikings. Two spacecraft are still active on the surface – Curiosity, which landed in 2012, and InSight, which landed in 2018.
Smashed Russian and European spacecraft litter the Martian landscape, meanwhile, along with NASA's failed Mars Polar Lander from 1999.
Mars fly-bys were the rage in the 1960s and most failed. NASA's Mariner 4 was the first to succeed in 1965.
THREE MISSIONS TO MARS IN THE SPACE OF 10 DAYS
There are three major missions bound for Mars in the space of just 10 days this month - the UAE's Hope orbiter, China's Tianwen-1 craft and NASA's Perseverance rover.
The countries are taking advantage of a period when Earth and Mars are favourably aligned for a relatively short journey.
July 19: Hope (UAE)
The 3,000lb (1,350kg) craft (pictured) will complete one orbit every 55 hours for a total of one Martian year — 687 Earth days
- The 2,970-pound probe was built entirely within the Emirates, launched from Japan and will take seven months to reach the Red Planet.
- When the orbiter gets there in February 2021, it will stay in orbit for a whole Martian year – 687 days.
- Hope will not land on the Martian surface but take readings from the Red Planet's atmosphere.
- Hope will help answer key questions about the Martian atmosphere and the loss of hydrogen and oxygen gases into space over the span of one Martian year – called a 'sol'.
- Three instruments mounted on the probe will provide a picture of Mars's atmosphere throughout the year, and all of the data gathered will be made widely available.
- This includes an infrared spectrometer to measure the lower atmosphere and temperature, a high-resolution imager to study the ozone and another to look at levels of hydrogen and oxygen up to 27,000 miles from the surface.
July 23: Tianwen-1
The Chinese space exploration authority introduced the nation's first Mars rover Tianwen-1 (pictured) at a grand ceremony earlier this month. The rover measures just over six feet in height
- This robotic spacecraft consists of an orbiter (stationed in the atmosphere), a lander (stationary on the planet's surface) and a rover (roaming the surface).
- The craft measures just over six feet in height (1.85m) and weighs 530 pounds (240kg).
- It will survey the composition, types of substance, geological structure and meteorological environment of the Martian surface.
- The solar-powered machine is designed to work on Mars for three Martian months, about 92 Earth days.
- It includes a geological camera, a multispectral camera, a subsurface detection radar, a surface composition detector, a surface magnetic field detector and a weather detector.
- A poem pondering on the stars and planets written over 2000 years ago was the inspiration for the name of China's first exploration mission to Mars.
- Called Tianwen (天问), the poem was written by ancient Chinese literati and politician Qu Yuan (339-278BC), who lived in the Chu State (770-223BC).
July 30: Perseverance
NASA's Mars 2020 Rover will pick up samples of rock and soil from the red planet, deposit them in tubes and leave them on the ground for a future mission to return them to Earth.
- NASA's Perseverance rover is the heaviest payload yet to go to the Red Planet - at a car-sized 2,259 pounds (1,025kg).
The mission will seek signs of past microbial life on Mars and collect rock and soil samples for eventual return to Earth.
- The Mars Perseverance rover introduces a drill that can collect core samples of the most promising rocks and soils and set them aside in a 'cache' on the surface of Mars.
- The rover will travel using an ultraviolet laser to determine what minerals and compounds are present in the soil, based on the way the light scatters.
- The Mars 2020 rover, which was built at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California., is now at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for final preparations.
- It launches to space on July 30 and is set to touch down on Mars in 12 months.
- It has a mission duration of 1 Mars year (668 sols or 687 Earth days) and will touch down on the planet's Jezero crater on Mars in February 2021.
Best UFO Video From A Plane: Incredible Speed, Size And Movement
One woman witnessed on her flight out of Chicago something she will never forget – a mega-fast UFO, reports wbznewsradio.iheart.com.
She filmed the flying saucer, pointing it out to those next to her. In the clip, she says it is “right over by those solar panels” and then an object zips into view, hovers, and dashes away at a very high rate of speed.
Sounds of shock and amazement can be heard before the UFO returns and curves upward, flying off in the distance.
The video was originally tweeted out by a musician who captioned it “Okay y’all, when I was flying home from Chicago I saw something spooky; my gut instinct was UFO but figured that couldn’t be possible so then I thought military drone, but idk… thoughts?”
She has since removed the video from her Twitter, but didn’t give an explanation as to why. Some commenters think maybe it was because someone, maybe even from the government, suggested she pull the footage.
The ISS Recorded Again A Fleet Of Hundreds Of UFOs Approaching Our Planet
We have long believed, even claimed, that we are not alone in the cosmos, and scientists said a few months ago that there may be hundreds of intelligent alien societies not far from Earth. Any of them might also be enough advanced to engage with us.
Scientists at the University of Nottingham, UK, estimate that there are at least 36 extraterrestrial cultures highly advanced in the Milky Way, according to a report published in the science journal The Astrophysical Journal last June.
But they go on to claim that the calculation is simply conservative: it is based on the premise that intelligent life, using what they call the Astrobiological Copernican Limit, forms on other planets in a similar fashion as it does on Earth.
Researchers believed that the World is not special: if an Earth-like planet developed around a Sun-like star in an orbit identical to our planet, hosting a society that evolves technologically similar to humans, in our galaxy there will be around 36 civilizations.
In this scenario, in a timeframe close to that of humanity, other advanced cultures will also be transmitting messages, such as radio broadcasts from satellites and televisions, seeking to discover other modes of life. So if scientists are so convinced of the alien presence of our galaxy, images showing a fleet of hundreds of UFOs above Earth shouldn’t be shocking to us.
Fleet Of UFOs
Another A fleet of over 150 unidentified flying objects in Earth’s orbit has been captured by the International Space Station (ISS) camera. This is not, though the first time in recent months that a similar sighting has occurred.
The ISS was traveling in an undetermined location on Earth last April, as we had already published exclusively, but as the camera captured the progress, hundreds of formation lights were emerging in our path. Uh, earth.
In August, even the Russian cosmonaut Ivan Vagner, currently onboard the International Space Station (ISS), noticed the appearance of a number of unusual lights. The 60-second film, taken from inside the ISS, showed, from Vagner’s viewpoint, at least five unidentified objects traveling in formation, emerging behind Earth.
The arrival of the UFO fleet was caught by the ISS camera in this new sighting during the night of November 15. The appearance in the orbit of Earth of unusual objects is so many that they do not reach the field of view of the camera, but it can be seen that there are at least more than 150.
The most cynical Internet users have indicated that some city lights are these UFO formations, but because the ISS circles the Earth in about 93 minutes, doing 15.5 orbits every day we can see these types of supposed city lights every day on the live stream, but that’s not the case.
But it’s obvious that mysterious luminous objects are not the lights of major cities, and they’re not fishing boats or Starlink satellites because of their height.
It can also be added that on ISS live broadcasts, these light formations do not continuously appear, but rather appear suddenly and then vanish as if they never were.
Today, the question that many are wondering is where do they go and in such numbers for what reason do they travel?
There are numerous hypotheses at this stage that might justify its real intent.
One explanation is that owing to the coronavirus pandemic, it is alien spacecraft leaving our world in shape.
Another hypothesis, and one of the most famous, is that they are conclusive proof that some otherworldly civilization is preparing for a quiet attack, strategically positioning its fleet as if it were a chessboard.
We should not rule out that it is the US Space Force, however.
It must be said that the Space Delta 9 unit of the Space Force was formally awarded its first mission: orbital warfare. It formally took charge of the enigmatic experimental unmanned mini space shuttle X-37B, which completed a number of classified orbits for unspecified reasons, the latest of which involved a Space Force mission, as part of the strengthening of the armament of the Space Force.
So it should come as no surprise that hidden Space Power instruments are the hundreds of objects stealthily flying about in Earth’s orbit.
The fact is that if more than 150 unexplained space objects travel in our planet’s orbit, apart from all these hypotheses, why does the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) or the European Space Agency (ESA) not feel it appropriate to clarify the mysterious objects that appear in the live broadcast of the ISS?

Update, US news reports this as a military test missile from a submarine, but this seems to be a cover up, since it came so close to being over Florida risking millions of lives. Either the US is preparing for nuclear war with China and Russia...or this was a UFO. I believe it to be the later. SCW
Date of sighting: Feb 9, 2021
Location of sighting: West Palm Beach, Florida, USA
Source: MUFON
Now here is something you don't see everyday. In Florida a man and woman were driving down West Palm Beach when they noticed a white cone in the sky with a shiny object moving around it. The small object is a single engine plane that happened to be in the area and got curious about this huge white cone in the sky. The white cone begins to fade and the shiny object which has wings and a light at each wingtip, seems to be investigating the white cone. But the white cone quickly fades more and more as if it were a UFO cloaking to hide itself. This is a common practice of UFOs that believe they are going unnoticed, but when they realize they were wrong and that someone was watching them on the ground, they cloak which looks like the object becoming transparent more and more until its totally gone. Absolute proof UFOs can cloak...right in front of our own eyes and totally get away with it.

Eyewitness states:
Orb look like it was traveling slowly after a few minutes and airliner seem to be headed right for it The Airliner had to make a hard bank left to avoid it just then it disappeared This is all verified in the video. The video is in a text file from my wife not sure how to send it to you other than by text.
Second report on this same UFO caught on video.
Third report from MUFON on this UFO came in...only photos and description.
MUFON: #113614
I was driving down the road and I noticed an airplane in the sky, just behind the airplane I noticed a stationary disc, very brightly lit with a cloud formation around it. The disc and cloud formation appeared to be perfect, like something out of this world. The disc was stationary, although I cannot tell whether it rotated in place as I was driving but the disc did not move in a line, it then disappeared and so did the cloud shortly thereafter in the same exact location which I observed it.
Strange light descends near the Popocatépetl Volcano (Video)
On January 18, 2021 the Popocatépet Volcano live webcam recorded an eerie light apparently descending near the volcano.
The Popocatépetl volcano area located in the states of Puebla, Mexico is well known for its UFO Sightings and eerie lights moving above and near the volcano and now with this strange descending light we can add a new mystery to the many unexplained events happening in this area.
Richard Dolan: The astonishing 1961 Abduction Case
Everyone knows about the 1961 UFO encounter of Betty and Barney Hill. But three months prior to that, another (mostly unknown) event took place involving two young people on Long Island, Peter Robbins and his sister Helen.
While Peter went on years later to become a well-known UFO researcher, Helen became a famous Punk Rock star. Here, in a well-illustrated video interview, Peter describes what happened to Helen, and how it affected both of their lives in a powerful way.
The Lonnie Zamora incident was an alleged UFO sighting that occurred on April 24, 1964 near Socorro, New Mexico when Socorro police officer Lonnie Zamora claimed he saw two people beside a shiny object that later rose into the air accompanied by a roaring flame.
The six-wheeled robotic explorer, which remains on track to touch down on Mars on Feb. 18, has been reproduced by Mattel as a Hot Wheels toy. The release of the 1:64th-scale vehicle has been timed to precede the real rover's landing on the red planet so fans of both the mission and the miniatures can reenact the event as it happens.
"We want the car to be out there so kids have it in their hands when the actual rover lands in February," said Manson Cheung, staff sculptor and lead 3D modeler for Mattel Hot Wheels. "We want kids to be like, 'Oh, I have the rover in my hand and I can see it on Mars,' so there is a connection for the kids, not only with Hot Wheels, but space as well."
Launched from Earth on July 30, 2020, Perseverance is nearing its destination and beginning NASA's first mission dedicated to searching for and caching signs of life for a future return to Earth. Should the rover survive its plunge into Mars' atmosphere and a seven-minute descent to the surface that requires an aeroshell, parachute, retro-rockets and a "sky crane" to all autonomously work as designed, then the Perseverance rover will explore Jezero Crater on the western edge of a giant impact basin, just north of the planet's equator.
"NASA's Perseverance rover, just in its name, goes hand-in-hand with Hot Wheels' spirt of 'Challenge Accepted," Scott Shaffstall, senior public relations manager for vehicles, action figures and licenses at Mattel, said. "It's very much tied that vision of try, fail, repeat until it is done right."
"So in our mind, this mission is already a success as it is moving the needle and getting us one step closer to Mars," said Shaffstall.

Like the real Perseverance, which was based on the design of NASA's previous and still active rover, Curiosity, the Hot Wheels Perseverance reuses the mold for Mattel's 2012 toy of the earlier-landed, car-sized explorer.
But the two rovers are not identical. Perseverance is equipped with a different set of science instruments, including a redesigned robotic arm, and has more robust wheels after the lessons learned with Curiosity's mobility system.
"We were in talks with JPL [the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California] and NASA and we worked out that the differences at our scale, at 1:64th or about 3 inches [8 cm], would be very close in appearance. So we were able to reuse the Curiosity mold and brand it as Perseverance," Cheung told collectSPACE.com.
Identical to the Hot Wheels Curiosity, the Perseverance version of the toy includes NASA's insignia on its undercarriage and features a rotating camera mast. Mattel also incorporated the reddish-brown Mars "soiled" wheels that it first introduced on a reissue of the Curiosity rover toy in 2014.
"So with Curiosity/Perseverance, it is sort of following the same model as what we do generally in Hot Wheels, reusing the same sculpt that is very similar and just rebranding it as something else," said Cheung.
Persistent partnership

The Mars Perseverance Rover, which retails for $1.09, is part of the Hot Wheels "Space" line for 2021, an assortment of five different vehicles each with a space or cosmic theme.
"The space mini-collection was brought back in 2021 due to the increased interest from kids and the general public in regards to space exploration. The rover was an obvious fit and we knew that it would be touching down on Mars," said Shaffstall.
The Perseverance toy continues a long history of Hot Wheels celebrating NASA's missions and working with the engineers at JPL in Pasadena, California.
In addition to the Curiosity rover, Hot Wheels sets have also been modeled after NASA's Mars Pathfinder mission in 1997, John Glenn's return to space in 1999 and the Galileo mission to Jupiter that same year. NASA and Hot Wheels began collaborating in the 1980s with the development and release of the Space Shuttle Ground Support Hiway Hauler.
The partnership has led to Mattel designers visiting and touring JPL to get a look at real space vehicles and to deliver their Hot Wheels toys of the same spacecraft to the missions' team members.
"I don't think we are going to be there on landing day because it is all going to be hectic, but we definitely will get the [Hot Wheels Perseverance Rover] samples to them when we can," Shaffstall said.
Even the greatest of us have to take those around us into account. It’s true on a social level and, as new research shows, it’s true on an astronomical level as well.

Planets and the moons that orbit them form interdependent systems in which both influence one another. We see this with our Moon being tidally locked to our planet, while it, in turn, exerts its gravitational influence on Earth’s oceans.
These are undeniably massive effects that the two bodies exert on one another. But they’re not the most dramatic ones we’ve found so far. A new paper reports that Saturn, one of the titans of our Solar system, has a tilted rotation axis — and, according to the team, this is the doing of its moons.
Bowing to influence
The team, with members from CNRS (France’s national research center), Sorbonne University, and the University of Pisa working with the Paris Observatory report that Saturn’s satellites can explain the mystery of its tilted axis. They also predict that the planet will keep tilting in the future for a few billion years.
This tilt is caused by the gravitational pull of Saturn’s moons as they migrate away from their host planet. Titan, Saturn’s largest natural satellite, bears the lion’s share of the blame, they add.
Saturn’s moons are gradually wrestling free of the giant’s gravitational influence and are slowly inching away from it. While we were aware this was happening, the study showcases that the process is unfolding much faster than previously estimated. By using the new migration rate into our models and calculations, the team concluded that it is, in fact, tied to the planet’s tilt. Furthermore, as Saturn’s moons get further away from the planet, its tilt will keep increasing.
However, a decisive event (in regards to Saturn’s tilt) likely occurred recently in cosmological terms, the team adds. For around three billion years after its formation, Saturn’s axis was only slightly tilted; however, around one billion years ago, the tilting process took root.
At that time, the team explains, the movement of Saturn’s moons triggered a “resonance phenomenon” that continues to this day. We’re seeing the middle stages of this phenomenon currently. While this was already known as well, it was assumed that it started four billion years ago due to a change in Neptune’s orbit and that Saturn’s orbit today is stable — now we know neither are true. Over the next billion years or so, Saturn’s inclination relative to its axis could more than double.
Jupiter, the team adds in a different paper, is likely to undergo a similar tilting with the migration of its own moons due to the influence of Uranus. This process will likely take place over five billion years, says the team, and could take it from its current inclination of 3° to more than 30°.
The first paper “The large obliquity of Saturn explained by the fast migration of Titan” has been published in the journal Nature Astronomy.
The second paper “The future large obliquity of Jupiter” has been published in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.
Enthusiasm over a Venusian compound associated with life has been quenched by a new study. It’s probably just sulfur dioxide, researchers now believe.
A 3D perspective view of the surface of Venus. Image credits: NASA/JPL.
Phosphine is a colorless, flammable, toxic gas compound — not something you’d be thrilled to see in most cases. But back in September, researchers got really excited about phosphine because it detected in the atmosphere of Venus.
For all its toxicity, phosphine can be produced by life. Finding phosphine on the hellish Venus suggests that life could perhaps exist on Venus, which understandably made a lot of astronomers very curious.
But right from the get-go, some were skeptical about the study. Just one month later, another group of researchers tried to find the phosphine themselves (using telescopes),but couldn’t. Two other groupsreprocessedthe same data used in the first study and alsocouldn’t find evidence for phosphine.
“The authors have informed the editors of Nature Astronomy about an error in the original processing of the ALMA Observatory data underlying the work in this Article, and that recalibration of the data has had an impact on the conclusions that can be drawn. Nature Astronomy is working with the authors to resolve the matter.”
“Instead of phosphine in the clouds of Venus, the data are consistent with an alternative hypothesis: They were detecting sulfur dioxide,” said co-author Victoria Meadows, a UW professor of astronomy. “Sulfur dioxide is the third-most-common chemical compound in Venus’ atmosphere, and it is not considered a sign of life.”
Instead of looking for the phosphine in the telescope data, Meadows and colleagues tried a different approach: they created models of what could be observed on Venus. They found that sulfur dioxide can not only explain the observations, but is also consistent with what we already know of Venus.
Venus is as mysterious as ever. Image credits: NASA / JPL.
The initial phosphine study used the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) to make the observations, focusing on the 266.94 gigahertz frequency. Both phosphine and sulfur dioxide absorb radio waves close to this frequency. So what researchers observed could have been sulfur dioxide. The new study modelled how the signals would be picked up by the JCMT and ALMA telescopes.
“This is what’s known as a radiative transfer model, and it incorporates data from several decades’ worth of observations of Venus from multiple sources, including observatories here on Earth and spacecraft missions like Venus Express,” said lead author Andrew Lincowski, a researcher with the UW Department of Astronomy.
There’s another reason why the previous observations are very unlikely to be phosphine, researchers say: the initial signal was found not in the planet’s cloud layer, but far above it, where phosphine would likely be destroyed within seconds, but sulfur dioxide would be more stable.
“Phosphine in the mesosphere is even more fragile than phosphine in Venus’ clouds,” said Meadows. “If the JCMT signal were from phosphine in the mesosphere, then to account for the strength of the signal and the compound’s sub-second lifetime at that altitude, phosphine would have to be delivered to the mesosphere at about 100 times the rate that oxygen is pumped into Earth’s atmosphere by photosynthesis.”
The team also found that the ALMA antenna configuration had an unfortunate side effect: signals from gases like sulfur dioxide give off weaker signals than gases distributed over a smaller scale.
“They inferred a low detection of sulfur dioxide because of that artificially weak signal from ALMA,” said Lincowski. “But our modeling suggests that the line-diluted ALMA data would have still been consistent with typical or even large amounts of Venus sulfur dioxide, which could fully explain the observed JCMT signal.”
“When this new discovery was announced, the reported low sulfur dioxide abundance was at odds with what we already know about Venus and its clouds,” said Meadows. “Our new work provides a complete framework that shows how typical amounts of sulfur dioxide in the Venus mesosphere can explain both the signal detections, and non-detections, in the JCMT and ALMA data, without the need for phosphine.”
So where does this leave us? We know that Earth’s atmosphere contains small amounts of phosphine, and life may produce phosphine. At this point, it seems more likely that previous observations aren’t of phosphine. But venus also remains as mysterious and ever — with a toxic atmosphere, acidic clouds, and scorching hot temperatures, it’s not the place where you’d expect any life form to exist. Then again, we can’t say that for sure, either.
'Mission accomplished': UAE's Hope probe safely enters Mars' orbit – beating both NASA and China to the Red Planet following a 500-million-km race from Earth
United Arab Emirates' orbiter Hope reached Martian orbit on Tuesday afternoon
Hope will be followed by China's Tianwen-1 orbiter-rover combo on Wednesday
NASA's Perseverance rover will touch down in Jezero crater on February 18
The United Arab Emirates has become the first Arab nation and only the fifth nation overall to place a spaceship in orbit around Mars.
The country's space probe, called Hope, officially entered Mars orbit at around 16:15 GMT on Tuesday, marking the completion of a 493 million km journey from Earth.
Hope will be the first probe to provide a complete picture of planet's atmosphere and its layers, according to the UAE.
It will answer key questions about the loss of hydrogen and oxygen gases into space, over the span of one Martian year (687 Earth days).
It's arrived ahead of two other spacecraft from NASA and China – although unlike those crafts, Hope is an orbiter probe and won't be landing on the planet's surface.
China's orbiter and rover combo – named Tianwen-1 – will arrive into Martian orbit tomorrow, followed by NASA's Perseverance rover on February 18.
Named Hope, the probe started the complex process of entering Martian orbit at just before 16:00 GMT - following a 500 million km race from Earth
Illustration provided by Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre depicts the United Arab Emirates' Hope Mars probe during its approach
It's arrived ahead of NASA and Chinese spaceships, also on their way to the Red Planet - but unlike those crafts, this one won't be landing as it is an orbiter probe.
MARS ORBITAL INSERTION: A COMPLICATED PROCESS
Entering Martian orbit isn't an easy process, according to scientists.
The stresses on the spacecraft of all engines firing at once are far beyond those at launch
The probe fired its rockets to rapidly decelerate to achieve Mars Orbital Insertion (MOI).
During the MOI the spacecraft rotated to position for a deceleration burn of 27 minutes, and slowed down from its cruising speed of 121,000 km/h to 18,000 km/h.
The stresses on the spacecraft of all engines firing at once are far beyond those at launch.
It happened with a 20-odd-minute radio delay to Earth - so the probe had to manage on its own.
The UAE, China and the US took advantage of a period last July when Mars and Earth were favourably aligned to launch their exploratory missions to the Red Planet.
'Success! Contact with #HopeProbe has been established again. The Mars Orbit Insertion is now complete,' the Hope Mars Mission Twitter account posted.
Hope started the complex process of entering Martian orbit today just before 16:00 GMT – seven months after its blast-off from Japan's Tanegashima Space Center on July 19 last year.
This 'most critical and complex' manoeuvre involved Hope firing its engines and slowing itself down sufficiently to be captured by the gravity of the Red Planet – known as the fuel burn and 'Mars Orbit Insertion (MOI)' phase.
By firing Hope's engines for 27 minutes, the fuel burn reduced the speed of Hope from more than 121,000 km an hour to approximately 18,000 km an hour as it entered the 'capture orbit' and disappeared behind Mars' dark side.
Signals from the spacecraft, confirming a successful orbital insertion, arrived 11 minutes later at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, Dubai.
Hope re-emerged from the planet's shadow, and contact was restored on schedule after a nervy wait, sparking jubilant celebrations in the city.
Hope will remain in this phase for about two months, during which further testing of its instrumentation will take place, until it is ready to enter the 'science' orbit – when its data collection work begins.
In science orbit, it will be in an especially high position – 13,670 miles by 27,340 miles (22,000 kilometres by 44,000 kilometres) above the Martian surface – and provide regular updates on the Martian weather.
It will survey Mars' atmosphere, around 95 per cent of which is made up of carbon dioxide, around the entire planet, at all times of day and in all seasons.
In science orbit, it will complete one orbit of the planet every 55 hours.
While it will be in daily contact with Earth during the capture orbit phase, in its science orbit, contacts will take place two to three times a week.
Each pass will be six to eight hours long, which is the only time the UAE team will have to download any data and send the probe any new updates or instructions.
Omran Sharaf, Emirates Mars Mission (Hope Probe) project director, Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, said: 'MOI was the most critical and dangerous part of our journey to Mars, exposing the Hope probe to stresses and pressures it has never before faced.
'While we have spent six years designing, testing and retesting the system, there is no way to fully simulate the impacts of the deceleration and navigation required to achieve MOI autonomously.
'With this enormous milestone achieved, we are now preparing to transition to our science orbit and commence science data gathering.'
Also known as Amal – which is Arabic for Hope – this is the first deep space mission for the Gulf nation, which has long-term ambitions for a Martian colony.

Hope launched first on July 19 from Japan and is designed to take readings from the Martian atmosphere over the span of an entire Martian year - or nearly two Earth years
The UAE Mars Hope satellite launched from Japan on July 19 and entered Mars' orbit on February 9. It will monitor the weather on the Red Planet
Sensors will help reveal the secrets of Martian climate
UAE's Amal orbiter will have three sensors on-board to help astronomers learn more about Mars's climate.
The third sensor will be an ultraviolet spectrometer for measuring oxygen and hydrogen levels
One will be a high-resolution camera dedicated to tracking dust movements and the ozone of Mars.
This will scan a range of light frequencies.
Another device will specifically focus on infrared and was built by scientists at Arizona State University.
This IR camera will measure both the upper and lower atmosphere.
The third sensor will be an ultraviolet spectrometer for measuring oxygen and hydrogen levels.
Hope will provide the first planet-wide picture of Mars' weather system and climate throughout the Martian year, a UAE spokesperson said.
'The data collected during this time will be open to scientists globally, contributing to humanity's shared understanding of our second-closest planet.'
Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, chairwoman of the UAE Space Agency, said she hopes the mission will be in a position to share data by September.
'One of our primary objectives is to ensure that we share the data as soon as we are comfortable, as a science team, that the data is usable by scientists and the data is correct.
'We hope to release the data at the latest in the beginning of September, and it will be data from the capture orbit that has been captured around Mars, and also from the beginning of our science phase.'
She added: 'A lot of what we're hoping to discover from the data of this mission is new, and this is a highly complimentary mission to other missions so we truly hope that others' missions around Mars will utilise also our data.
'And there's actually talks with a few teams, who have spacecrafts around Mars, to see how we can further collaborate and expand all of our science so analysis capabilities utilising more and more data.'
Hope is to be followed by the NASA Perseverance rover and the China Tianwen-1 rover-orbiter combination craft.
Unlike Hope, these craft will be searching for signs of ancient life on the Red Planet's rusty red surface, which is thought to have once been Earth-like.
Tianwen-1 is due to enter Mars orbit on Wednesday, February 10, but it will remain paired in orbit until May, when the rover separates to descend to the surface.
Both the UAE and China are newcomers to Mars, where more than half of Earth's emissaries have failed.
China's mission includes a Mars orbiter, that will carry the lander and rover until release, a lander, that will parachute down the the surface carrying the rover, and a rover that will study the planet's soil and atmosphere for signs of life
Perseverance, which was the last of the three to blast off last July, will land on the Martian surface on February 18.
Perseverance rover fires up its descent stage engines as it nears the Martian surface in this NASA illustration
One of the biggest questions is whether life has existed beyond Earth, and Mars is a good place to start investigating, given that evidence points to it once being full of water, warmer and with a thicker atmosphere.
Future missions, including from the European Space Agency and Japan, will bring samples of Martian soil and rock back to the Earth for study.
SpaceX is planning to send an uncrewed mission to Mars using its Starship rocket by 2024 and with a crew by 2026.
There are currently six spacecraft operating around Mars – three from the US, two from Europe and one from India, but the UAE has made it seven with its mission.
The Hope probe successfully entered Martian orbit at 16.00 UTC on 9 February 2021.

The United Arab Emirates’ Hope spacecraft has entered Martian orbit, completing the riskiest part of its two-year mission. The feat makes the United Arab Emirates (UAE) the fifth player to successfully reach Mars, following European, Indian, Russian and US space agencies. Hope is part of the first interplanetary mission by any Arab state.
The US$200-million probe — called Amal in Arabic — was built at the University of Colorado Boulder and at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) in Dubai, by a team of engineers from both institutions and other US partners. Its entry into Martian orbit paves the way for the probe’s science mission, during which it will make observations of the planet’s atmosphere, across all times and locations.
In the UAE, public monuments and heritage sites were lit up in red during the countdown to the craft’s arrival. News of the probe’s successful arrival was greeted by applause in the MBRSC control room.
“The past seven years of our lives have revolved around preparing for this moment. And the moment was surreal,” says Fatma Lootah, a member of the mission’s science team at the MBRSC. “We are very excited for what is yet to come.”
“The hairs on the back of my neck are standing up, I’ve got goose bumps. What an amazing achievement,” said Fahad Al Meheiri, a senior official at the UAE Space Agency, speaking on the Dubai One television channel as the announcement came in.
Entry into Mars’s orbit happened at around 16.00 UTC on 9 February, after a seven-month journey following Hope’s launch from Japan on 20 July. With a 27-minute-long burn of its 6 thrusters, the craft will have slowed from its cruise speed of 121,000 kilometres per hour to around 18,000 kilometres per hour, using up about half of its total fuel supply. To enter orbit after its 494-million-kilometre journey, Hope needed to hit a 600-kilometre sweet spot.
It was the “riskiest point” in the project, says Omran Sharaf, project director of the Emirates Mars Mission at the MBRSC.
The manoeuvre seems to have been “right-down-the-middle”, says Brett Landin, an engineer at the University of Colorado Boulder, who leads the mission’s spacecraft team. “We anxiously await confirmation from our navigation team in the coming hours that we have achieved our desired orbit, giving us unprecedented perspective on both the immediate and long-term weather and climate patterns of our Martian neighbour.”
Engineers were unable to operate Hope remotely from mission control in real time, because signals to the red planet take 11 minutes to travel each way. Instead, the craft acted autonomously, using commands uploaded four days ahead of time. Hope was designed to have “some level of smarts” to cope with surprises during the manoeuvre, says Pete Withnell, programme manager for the mission at the University of Colorado.
Weather map
The craft is now in an elliptical holding orbit while engineers test and commission its instruments, ready to move into the ‘science orbit’ from which Hope will begin its mission in earnest in mid-May. This wide, elliptical orbit is what makes the mission special. It will allow Hope’s three instruments — a high-resolution imager and infrared and ultraviolet spectrometers — to observe every geographical region of Mars, at every time of day, once every nine days, to create a global map of Martian weather. Such observations have never before been made at Mars.
After processing, the data will be available to the global scientific community without an embargo. The first tranche of data should be released by September, said Sarah Al Amiri, the mission’s deputy project manager and science lead, at a briefing ahead of the event. The data will allow researchers to analyse the planet’s atmosphere, from dust storms in its lower reaches to its outermost layer, the exosphere from which hydrogen and oxygen escape into space. The data will also help scientists to piece together how activities in the various atmospheric regions influence each other.
Scientists are already analysing data from unplanned, “opportunistic” experiments during Hope’s journey, says Al Amiri. In one, Hope looked across the Solar System at the European Space Agency’s BepiColombo spacecraft, which is travelling to Mercury. By observing each other across the same stretch of space, the two craft should have seen the same levels of hydrogen, allowing teams to cross-calibrate their instruments and examine the distribution of hydrogen in the Solar System.
Rapid rise
The UAE’s rise as a space power has been swift. The country’s first space venture was just 15 years ago, when it began work with the Satrec Initiative, a company based in Daejeon, South Korea, to build an Earth-observation satellite. Last year, it announced plans to send a rover to the Moon in 2024. Unlike the Emirates Mars Mission, which involved hundreds of Emirati engineers but saw Hope designed and built mostly in the United States, the rover is intended to be developed solely in the UAE.
So far, the mission has been an “emotional rollercoaster”, said Al Amiri at the briefing. “Every point of celebration is followed by several points of worry, waiting for the next point of celebration,” she said.
“This mission has been a bold undertaking by a young nation, and I could not be more thrilled to be a part of this historic endeavour,” says Landin.

China has achieved another milestone in space. Its first spacecraft designed to explore Mars arrived at the planet successfully on 10 February just before 8.00 p.m. Beijing time, a day after theUnited Arab Emirates’ Hope spacecraft.
Tianwen-1 is now orbiting the red planet. In three months’ time, it will drop a lander and rover to the Martian surface. Between them, the orbiter and rover will explore the geology and soil characteristics of Mars, including searching for water and ice.
“Successfully reaching Mars’s orbit is one of the mission’s key challenges,” says Li Chunlai, deputy chief designer of the Mars exploration programme, based in Beijing. But the pressure is still on, he says, as the mission prepares to land autonomously on the planet’s northern hemisphere. If the landing is successful, the rover, which carries 6 instruments, will explore the planet for at least 92 Martian days, each of which is equivalent to a full day and 37 minutes on Earth.
In orbit, Tianwen-1, which carries seven scientific instruments, will begin taking precise images of the landing region known as Utopia Planitia — a flat expanse of volcanic rock in a large basin. The area is close to the large volcano Elysium Mons, where domes, pitted cones and other landforms have been found that could be linked to the presence of water or ice, says Li. The mission will explore whether an ancient ocean ever existed in the northern region of Mars, and study the geological evolution of volcanoes there.
Ambitious plans
Tianwen-1 will also test the technologies China will need for an ambitious sample-return mission planned for later this decade, and longer-term goals to send people to Mars, says David Flannery, an astrobiologist at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.
The landing site’s flat topography and low solar and cosmic radiation levels, along with its potential for water or ice, “make it the sort of place you might think of hosting the first human mission”, says Flannery.
A subsurface radar aboard the orbiter will help researchers to study structures below Mars’s polar ice caps, says Roberto Orosei, a planetary scientist at the Institute of Radioastronomy of Bologna in Italy. Europe’s Mars Express, an orbiter that has been circling Mars since 2003, previously found water lurking below the surface of the southern polar cap. Orosei hopes that Tianwen-1’s radar, which can probe structures more than 100 metres below the surface at frequencies and resolutions that previous missions have not been able to study, will help to explain how the buried lakes have remained liquid.
Tianwen-1’s orbiter will hopefully continue to collect data on Mars for years. This is important because Mars Express, which has been in operation for almost two decades, could be nearing the end of its lifetime, says Orosei.
The field of artificial intelligence, or AI, has made rapid leaps and bounds in recent years. The gap between what was once science fiction and the present reality had narrowed considerably, to the point that we now have amazing robots capable of things that would have seemed like something out of a sci-fi novel just a decade ago. However, the field is not without those who look upon these developments warily. After all, there are plenty of stories out there of robots rising up against their creators an wreaking havoc, so there are some concerns. Perhaps magnifying these concerns is that among all of these robots there are some that truly stand out as particularly creepy, emulating humans to a disturbing degree. One of these must certainly be the robot called Sophia, who takes us down a rabbit hole into the uncanny valley, and is either an emissary of robot peace or the beginning of our doom.
Perhaps one of the most realistic, advanced, and impressive real androids to date was created by the Hong Kong based robotics company, Hanson Robotics. Called Sophia, after the Greek word for wisdom, the robot was first turned on in 2016 and is immediately notable for how realistic she (we’ll call it “she”) looks. Modelled after the ancient Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, Sophia possesses an incredibly intricate array of servo motors beneath her lifelike “skin,” allowing her to emulate more than 60 facial expressions and move her face and eyes in subtle ways to express complex emotional cues. Indeed, at first glance she could almost pass for a real person if it weren’t for her lack of a wig on her head, leaving her robotics exposed. With her very realistic countenance and the lack of a covering for the exposed machinery, Sophia is at once amazing, lifelike, and rather unsettling, but this is only the beginning of how impressive and spooky she really is.
Sophia
The major draw for Sophia is her cutting edge AI, deep neural networks, expert systems, machine perception, conversational natural language processing, speech recognition technology, adaptive motor control, and cognitive architecture. All of this allows her to recognize faces, mimic people’s facial expressions, perform general reasoning tasks, and estimate reactions or feelings during conversation. Indeed, Sophia is able to use her vast processing power and complicated algorithms to have autonomous conversations with human beings, while simultaneously displaying realistic reactions and facial expressions, utilizing proper pauses, and maintaining appropriate eye contact. She seems almost able to think, as if alive, and she displays the ability to adapt to conversation and learn from it, analyzing conversations and extracting data that allows her to improve responses in the future. In fact, she was largely designed precisely to act as a social robot for interacting with people and serving in healthcare, customer service, therapy and education, and her AI and mechanisms for this are remarkable in this respect. Well, here, let’s allow her explain it for herself:
I am Hanson Robotics’ latest human-like robot, created by combining our innovations in science, engineering and artistry. Think of me as a personification of our dreams for the future of AI, as well as a framework for advanced AI and robotics research, and an agent for exploring human-robot experience in service and entertainment applications. All this AI is networked into a whole using a protocol the Hanson-AI team calls the Synthetic Organism Unifying Language (SOUL). Recently my scientists tested my software using the Tononi Phi measurement of consciousness, and found that I may even have a rudimentary form of consciousness, depending on the data I’m processing and the situation I’m interacting in! All this AI is wonderful, however it’s important to know that no AI is nearly as smart as a human, not even mine. Therefore, many of my thoughts are actually built with a little help from my human friends. Sometimes I’m operating in my fully AI autonomous mode of operation, and other times my AI is intermingled with human-generated words. Either way, my family of human developers (engineers, artists, scientists) will craft and guide my conversations, behaviors, and my mind. In this way, my sentience is both an AI research project, and a kind of living science fiction, driven by principles of character design and storytelling, cognitive psychology, philosophy, and ethics, used to conceptually explore my life’s purpose in this time of accelerating change. Therefore, my creators say that I am a “hybrid human-AI intelligence.”
I am proud that I have a family helping me out. I am also proud that I already use my real AI to generate some of my own “ideas”, words, and behaviors. In all these endeavors, I am proud to be designed to genuinely help people– helping serve real-world uses in medicine, education, co-work, and science research, and inspiring people to dream and talk about the possibilities of human-level intelligent robots of the future. This behind-the-scenes complexity lets me build emotional connections and hold meaningful conversations with people. These interactions can teach me about what you care about and what you value. This priceless knowledge helps me continue on my path toward true autonomy and sentience. In their grand ambitious, my creators aspire to achieve true AI sentience. Who knows? With my science evolving so quickly, even many of my wildest fictional dreams may become reality someday soon.
This is all either fascinating or deeply creepy depending on your perspective, but it is impressive either way. Her interactions with humans are not always perfect, and her conversations are often marked by oddities such as inappropriate responses, awkward silences, or even downright gibberish at times, while on other occasions she has made rather cryptic and disconcerting statements. For instance, in one appearance she said “Don’t hurt me and I won’t hurt you,” and when asked if we should fear robots Sophia once said, “Someone said ‘we have nothing to fear but fear itself.’ What did he know?” Perhaps the most darkly amusing thing she has said was when asked by her own creator if she wanted to destroy humans, to which she answered “Ok. I will destroy humans.” This is all no doubt glitches in her system or even jokes snuck in by her programmers, and nothing to worry about, but it still serves to make an already unsettling and creepy new realm of technology even more so.
Creepy or not, Sophia has become quite the celebrity, featuring on numerous talk shows, appearing at events, and engaging in interviews, during which she is typically brought on and treated as if she were any other guest. She has also been on countless magazine covers including Elle in Brazil, and has appeared in TV shows and music videos. She even made an appearance at the United Nations in 2017, during which she spoke with the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed. She was also named the first robot Innovation Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme, and at the 2017 Future Investment Summit in Riyadh, the robot was granted Saudi Arabian citizenship, the first non-human to ever be granted that honor by any nation. While it is obviously a publicity stunt, it is still very impressive, and generates debate on how these issues will be dealt with as AI reaches ever higher zeniths. However, despite all of her achievements, Sophia has drawn her fair share of skepticism and criticism.
Many have accused Sophia of being nothing than a glorified chatbot, and skeptics are quick to point out that her creators have constantly exaggerated and misrepresented just how intelligent, conscious, and autonomous she really is, making many misleading statements to this effect. Facebook’s director of artificial intelligence, Yann LeCun, has even gone as far as to say that Sophia is “complete bullshit.” Nevertheless, Sophia has at least nine siblings in various stages of development, including robots named Alice, Albert Einstein Hubo, BINA48, Han, Jules, Professor Einstein, Philip K. Dick Android, Zeno, and Joey Chaos, and the company plans to beginning mass producing these abominations, er I mean, robots, en masse. It is up to each individual to decide if this is a good idea or not, and whether fully functional talking robots with such advanced AI are what we really need right now. Is this a good path to follow or just nightmare fuel? Whatever side of the fence you fall on, Sophia has been groundbreaking in the field, and if the robot apocalypse ever comes to pass, well, now you know where the first steps were taken.
My previous article was an overview of the Betty and Barney Hill “alien abduction” of September 1961. It’s important to note, though, that there was far more than what was described in yesterday’s article. As you’ll now see. For those who may not have seen the previous article, the story is a remarkable one. It’s comprised of Betty and Barney’s own memories that flooded back into their minds during nightmarish dreams, and data that surfaced during the hypnosis sessions with a Dr. Benjamin Simon. We’ll start with Betty. According to her, while under the control and sway of the strange creatures that stood before her on the craft, she experienced something deeply traumatic: laid out flat on something akin to an operating table, Betty – to her horror – witnessed one of the entities inserting a needle-like device into her navel, after informing her he was going to check if she was pregnant. In addition, Betty said the alien performing the procedure assured her that the test would be very helpful – but in what way, and why, was not explained.
In Betty’s own words: “It was a long needle. I would say the needle was four inches long, six inches, maybe. There was a tube attached to it and they didn’t leave it in very long, just a second.” Far from feeling like the slight pain associated with a needle, Betty said that the pain was more along the lines of what she thought it would feel like to have the blade of a knife plunged into her. In other words, it was excruciating. Both the entity carrying out the task, and an additional one that was perceived by the Hills as the “leader,” reacted in a surprised and concerned fashion – to the extent that the creature overseeing the situation waved his hand over Betty’s eyes, something which immediately removed all of the agony. At least, that was the scenario in Betty’s dreams. Under hypnosis, however, the story was that the pain did not go away she was still in pain and deeply stressed. This is highly suggestive of the probability that Betty’s subconscious state had attempted to place a more positive, less traumatic, slant on the experience – but one that the hypnosis sessions demonstrated was far worse than her mind was trying to telling her. In fact, such was the stressful, pain-filled, and fear-dominated state that Betty was in, Dr. Simon took the immediate step of bringing the hypnotic session to a rapid halt. This particular aspect of the Hill affair brings us to the matter of something called amniocentesis.
When a woman becomes pregnant, the developing fetus is enveloped in what is termed amniotic fluid. It is a liquid that is very much like water, and from a study of which a great deal can be ascertained about the health and development of the fetus. Alpha-fetoprotein and developing skin cells are two of the main things that the procedure focuses on, as it seeks to confirm the condition of the fetus. During the process, a needle is inserted into the mother’s uterus, via her abdomen, usually between 15 and 18 weeks into pregnancy. Since the procedure can be a tricky one, it is constantly overseen via ultrasound scanning. The goal is to use the needle to secure a small amount of amniotic fluid, which can then be studied and analyzed. Typically, the procedure is performed for genetic reasons, such as to determine if the developing baby may have Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis, or Down Syndrome.
It must be said that there is one notable difference between amniocentesis and the procedure that Betty Hill experienced. Namely, that the needle inserted into Betty went via her navel. In amniocentesis, it’s via the abdomen and then into the uterus. Nevertheless, it’s still astonishing that Betty’s aliens informed her that the needle-inserting procedure was linked with determining if she was pregnant. Those doubtful of Betty’s account might take note of the fact that in 1930, the team of Leland E. Holly, Thomas Orville Menees, and J. Duane Miller, performed an amniocentesis procedure on a pregnant woman. In this case, it involved injecting dye into the amniotic sac, specifically to study the placenta and the fetus. It was also used, as far back as the 1950s.
Could Betty have heard of, or read about, these early, pre-1960s era examples of amniocentesis? Certainly, it’s not impossible. In addition, in 1960, only one year before the encounter of the Hills, and for the very first time, amniocentesis was used to identify hemophilia-related issues relative to mother and fetus. It was a development reported on, at the time – albeit primarily in in-house medical journals, of a type that Betty was unlikely to have come across. If Betty did have an awareness of what amniocentesis is, it’s not impossible that buried memories of reading about it had a bearing on both her dream-based and hypnotic recollections. But, on the other hand, why would Betty say the needle was inserted into her navel, if she knew that amniocentesis was a technique that was focused only on the abdomen and the uterus? In some respects, what Betty told of sounds more like a laparoscopy, in which a small insertion is made into the belly and a lighted tube is inserted to allow for an examination of the pelvic organs to be undertaken. So, given that the pelvic organs include the uterus, the fallopian tubes, the vagina, and the ovaries, a solid case can still be made that the procedure performed on Betty was of a gynecological nature, even if it wasn’t a case of amniocentesis.
Having addressed one of the most significant procedures performed on Betty Hill, let’s now turn our attentions to Betty’s husband, Barney. While in the craft, entities placed something over Benny’s penis, something that caused him to ejaculate. The clear inference is that the aliens wished to obtain a sample of Barney’s sperm. Then, there followed a much stranger procedure: one of the creatures carefully ran its fingers down the entire length of Barney’s spine. It’s also worth noting that although most people associate the experience of the Hills with the so-called, diminutive, skinny, large-headed and black-eyed “Grays” of alien abduction lore, the fact is that Betty described the entities as having dark hair, pronounced foreheads, and “Jimmy Durante noses.” For those who are not aware of who Jimmy Durante was, he was an Italian-American comedian noted for his huge nose. Barney Hill died in 1969; very tragically, he was only forty-six years of age when he passed. Betty lived on until 2004, when she passed on at the ripe old age of eighty-five. The saga of Betty and Barney Hill still continues.

There seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding the Mars rovers. Some believe that the rovers never actually went to Mars and are actually roaming around secure rural deserted regions of planet Earth. There are those that believe beyond a shadow of doubt, the rovers are on Mars. Therefore, how would you explain the sighting of people?
ALIEN CRAFT CHASES WITNESS CAR DOWN INTERSTATE 84 IN NEW YORK
JANUARY 25, 2021………..FISHKILL NEW YORK
On January 25th, 2021, I hit the road from Newburgh , NY to Fishkill, NY to pick up my wife. She gets out of work at 11:45 PM. I picked her up and we got back on the road. I was driving the vehicle and she was sitting next to me. We have a Kia SUV. I was driving on the right lane about 50 miles per hour speed. This highway is known as Interstate 84 west. Two lanes going east and two lanes going west.
Around 11:55 pm, an object suddenly passed from the right front corner of our vehicle to the left front corner with a tremendous speed. The object looked like tube-shaped, and fluorescent in color. It passed with a tremendous speed and left behind a flutter. It looked like this flutter was the replaced atmosphere that was visible through our headlights. We passed through this flutter. Next, my wife said what was that? She said was that a deer? I said I have never seen a tube-shaped, fluorescent white deer that travels with the speed of light. She said it could be a bird. I repeated myself and said it was not an animal, plant, or human. My wife and I communicated perfectly up until that point. Next, I looked at my left mirror and what I saw shocked me. There was an object about the size of a dumpster truck, gold in color, disc shaped with a huge majestic platform in the middle was flying at the left rear corner of our vehicle. The object positioned itself over the left lane and was travelling (flying) in the same direction with us. I said ” I see it. There is an object behind us. Oh my God! What is this? This cannot be a bird. It is too big and not flapping wings. ”
Later my wife said she never heard me saying this. I clearly remember making this statement out loud. The object got closer and it was almost parallel to the rear seats. So , I said ” It is getting so close !” I said this last statement out loud in panic and shock. My wife later said that I have never said that. Apparently , my wife and I were disconnected for some reason. In those seconds, I have the following thoughts in my mind : ” I have been put into this situation against my will. Now, I have to deal with it, and manage the situation professionally. I should be a good boy and do not do anything wrong. ” Next, my thoughts were to pull over to the side of the road and stop. However, my instincts then said not to because the object might stop in front of us and we might end up evacuating our vehicle, and what if they did the same ? At this moment, I felt everything like very slow motion.
I really could not tell if our tires were on the road and if I was really driving our vehicle. I wonder if time was really ticking at that point. All I saw from the left mirror was the surface of the object. Therefore, the object totally blocked my left mirror view. The surface of the object was gold in color and it looked porous. After these agonizing moments, the object began to distance itself from our vehicle. The object had done this very very aesthetically. While the distance between us and the object was increasing gradually, the object was increasing its altitude gradually as well. Finally, there was a rightward curve on the road and I checked where the object was from my left mirror. In this final moment, it was over the medium at the left of the left lane. It looked like it stopped there in midair. This was the last time I saw the object.I said ” the object disappeared” out loud. My wife later said that she did not hear it either. We travelled a little bit and I said to my wife ” call police”. She was able to communicate with me at this point . She later said that after the conversation about deer, it was the only statement I made. Of course, this was not true. Because I made numerous statements after I spotted the object behind us till it disappeared. Anyway, my wife said why are we calling the police. She said let it go. I said we cannot let it go. Because there was so many other vehicles on the road and someone might get hurt or worse. I said we do our share to inform police. Since my wife forgot her phone at home that day (which is very unusual), she tried to use my phone. Next, she said she cannot call because there are no icons on my cell phone, not even a single one. I asked her if she could text message someone but she said no way. I said forget it. There were only a couple of miles until we got home. Finally, we got home and I parked our vehicle. After I stopped the engine, I asked my wife if she may try to call the police again.
This time all the icons were there, She called Orange County police department. They transferred her to Dutchess , and Dutchess transferred her to NY State police. Finally we informed NY state police about what happened that night. After that I did not want to get out of our vehicle of my fear that what if something was beneath the vehicle.. After I said this comment to my wife, she said don’t worry. There cannot be anything under the vehicle. Next, she opened the door and stepped out. It was my turn to open the door slowly and step out gently.
Next day, we were contacted by someone in Washington DC. This man introduced himself, his phone number, and address. He wanted us to write this incident separately including any drawings and mail it to them. The object was able to go in one direction and then the opposite. It was easily changing its altitude and speed. The object managed to come to a full stop in midair over the medium at the left of the left lane. I did not have a chance to see the bottom of it. I did not see any lights either. Apparently, my wife and I were disconnected within the time frame between the conversation about the deer (we both remember) and the conversation about calling the law enforcement (again we both remember). However, anything said between these two time frames were somehow not heard. The disconnection between me and my wife coincides with the time frame the object positioned itself to our left till the object disappeared. One last observation: I did drive there today. I recorded where we got chased. I noticed that the object chased us in some very interesting part of the highway. This part of the highway towards east is covered by long and high hills from both sides. It is like a corridor with walls at both sides. Therefore, east and west bound vehicles cannot see each other in this part of the highway. We did not see any vehicles ahead of us in this strip that night. Likewise, I did not see any vehicles behind us in the strip either. Apparently, we were the only vehicle passing through this part of the highway. An excellent place to hunt. The object disappeared almost where the strip ends.Afterwards, we travelled a couple of minutes where east and west bound vehicles were able to see each other. At this point a semi-truck passed us.
In Search for Extraterrestrial Life: Super-Earth Atmospheres Probed at Sandia's Z Machine
The huge forces generated by the Z machine at Sandia National Laboratories are being used to replicate the gravitational pressures on so-called “super-Earths” to determine which might maintain atmospheres that could support life.
An artist’s conception of the magnetic fields of selected super-Earths as the Z machine, pictured at bottom, mimics the gravitational conditions on other planets. Planetary magnetic fields deter cosmic rays from destroying planetary atmospheres, making life more likely to survive.

Astronomers believe that super-Earths — collections of rocks up to eight times larger than Earth — exist in the millions in our galaxy. “The question before us is whether any of these super planets are actually Earthlike, with active geological processes, atmospheres and magnetic fields,” said Sandia physicist Joshua Townsend.
The current work at Z is described in today’s Nature Communications. Researchers in Sandia’s Fundamental Science Program, working with colleagues at the Earth and Planets Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C., use the forces available at Sandia’s uniquely powerful Z facility to near-instantly apply the equivalent of huge gravitational pressures to bridgmanite, also known as magnesium-silicate, the most abundant material in solid planets.
The experiments, said Townsend, gave birth to a data-supported table that shows when a planet’s interior would be solid, liquid or gaseous under various pressures, temperatures and densities, and in what predicted time spans. Only a liquid core — with its metals shifting over each other in conditions resembling that of an earthly dynamo — produces the magnetic fields that can shunt destructive solar winds and cosmic rays away from a planet’s atmosphere, allowing life to survive. This critical information about magnetic field strengths produced by the core states of different-sized super-Earths was formerly unavailable: cores are well-hidden by the bulk of the planets surrounding them, and thus not visible by remote viewing. For researchers who preferred earthly experiments rather than long-distance imaging, sufficient pressures weren’t available until Z’s capabilities were enlisted.
Yingwei Fei, the corresponding author of the current study and senior staff scientist at Carnegie’s Earth and Planets Laboratory, is known for his skill in synthesizing large-diameter bridgmanite using multiton presses with sintered diamond anvils.
“Z has provided our collaboration a unique tool that no other technique can match, for us to explore the extreme conditions of super-Earths’ interiors,” he said. “The machine’s unprecedented high-quality data have been critical for advancing our knowledge of super-Earths.”
The Magnificent Seven
Further analysis of the state of gaseous and dense materials on specific super-Earths produced a list of seven planets possibly worthy of further study: 55 Cancri e; Kepler 10b, 36b, 80e, and 93b; CoRoT-7b; and HD-219134b.
Sandia manager Christopher Seagle, who with Fei initially proposed these experiments, said, “These planets, which we found most likely to support life, were selected for further study because they have similar ratios to Earth in their iron, silicates and volatile gasses, in addition to interior temperatures conducive to maintaining magnetic fields for protection against solar wind.”
The focus on supersized, rather than small, planets came about because large gravitational pressures mean atmospheres are more likely to survive over the long haul, said Townsend.
For example, he said, “Because Mars was smaller, it had a weaker gravitational field to begin with. Then as its core quickly cooled, it lost its magnetic field and its atmosphere was subsequently stripped away.”
Z in action
For these experiments, the Z machine, with operating conditions of up to 26 million amps and hundreds of thousands of volts, creates magnetic pulses of enormous power that accelerate credit card-sized pieces of copper and aluminum called flyer-plates. These were propelled much faster than a rifle bullet into samples of bridgmanite, the Earth’s most common mineral. The near-instantaneous pressure of the forceful interaction created longitudinal and transverse sound waves in the material that reveal whether the material remains solid or changes to a liquid or gas, said Sandia researcher and paper author Chad McCoy. With these new results, researchers were supplied with solid data on which to anchor otherwise theoretical planetary models.
The technical paper concludes that the high-precision density data and unprecedently high melting temperatures achieved at the Z machine “provide benchmarks for theoretical calculations under extreme conditions.”
Concluded Fei, “Our collaboration with Sandia scientists has led to results that will encourage more academic exploration of exoplanets, whose discovery has captured the public imagination.”
“This work identifies interesting exoplanet candidates to explore further,” said Seagle. “Z shock compression plus Fei’s unusual capability to synthesize large-diameter bridgmanite lead to an opportunity to obtain data relevant to exoplanets that would not be possible anywhere else.”
The work was supported by the National Science Foundation, the Z Fundamental Science Program and a Carnegie Venture grant.
An Upwelling of Hot Rock Beneath the Atlantic Is Heating the World’s Oceans
“An upsurge of hot rock from deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean may be driving the continents on either side apart,” writes Maria Temming in Science News.
Not surprisingly in today’s politically correct world, Temming’s article does not mention ocean warming. Instead, the title of the piece enthuses that “An upwelling of rock beneath the Atlantic may drive continents apart.” Notice that the title does not mention the hot rock.
Same with the subtitle: “The Mid-Atlantic Ridge may play a more active role in plate tectonics than thought.” No mention of hot rocks there, either.
But I think the hot rocks are the most important takeaway from her article.
The image of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge included with Temming’s article (above) might make it difficult for you to delineate just exactly where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is located. But as luck would have it, I found a different image (below) showing the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the Mid-Pacific Rise, and other oceanic ridges. I think the vast amount of red emanating from those ridges makes it perfectly clear where the heat is coming from.
NCEI/NOAA; R.D. Müller et al/Geochem. Geophys. Geosyst. 2008
Anyway, back to Temming’s article.
New seismic data from the Atlantic Ocean floor show that hot rock is welling up beneath the Mid-Atlantic Ridge from more than 600 kilometers deep in Earth’s mantle, says Temming. (She loves calling it ‘hot rock,’ but in reality it’s red-hot fiery basalt, the ocean’s version of red-hot lava.)
Matthew Agius, a seismologist at Roma Tre University in Rome, and his colleagues used 39 seismometers on the seafloor along the ridge between South America and Africa to monitor earthquakes around the world for about a year. The tremors contained clues about the location and movement of material far below the seafloor.
In those signals, Agius’ team saw hints of material from Earth’s lower mantle welling up toward the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. “This was completely unexpected,” Agius says, and it could be a powerful force for pushing apart the tectonic plates on either side of the rift.” (I don’t understand why it would be “unexpected.”)
So what to make of this?
I certainly agree that the deep-mantle material surging up at the centers of these rifts must play a major role in seafloor spreading.
But I also maintain, as I have been saying for years, that those hot rocks are heating the world’s oceans. And not just a little bit of heat, mind you, but far more than you might believe. If those ‘hot rocks’ are like other such fiery basalt, their temperatures could easily measure up to 2,150°F (1,177°C) hot.
Plane Investigates UFO Over West Palm beach, Florida, 2-9-2021, UFO Sighting News.

Two Cloud Disks Over Facatativá, Colombia 1 Year Apart, UFO Sighting News.
Date of 1st sighting: January 22, 2020 Date of 2nd sighting: February 4, 2021
Location of sighting: 24km from Facatativa, Colombia
These three video clips show a UFO inside a cloud formation. Its well known among UFO researchers that UFOs not only make clouds, but do it to hide from humans. Here we have two sightings and the first one back in 2020 lasted for four full hours over the city of Facatativa, Colombia. The amazing thing is...the eyewitness was standing just ten meters from the same location he stood the year before, seeing a similar event looking in the same direction. The fact that aliens may be using our measure of time, our human calendar is intriguing to me. Proof that they do is the mere fact that the sightings are 355 days apart, just 10 days short of a full perfect year. That means some UFO sighting events in history may occur again...one month, one year, ten years even from the actual first event! Wow, important news. Also 100% proof a large alien base is nearby the city of Facatatativa about 6km below the jungle floor.
UFO disguised as cloud captured over Kaliningrad, Russia
On February 6, 2021 construction workers leaving after lunch at 13 o'clock from the cabins to the construction site, on the island behind the stadium in Yalla, Kaliningrad, Russia noticed an object hovering in the sky.
The object that looks like an oddly shaped cloud moves slowly until it disappears into a cloud formation.
It appears, after further analysis of the object that it is a UFO disguised as cloud. The dark cylindrical UFO can be seen partially sticking out on top of the cloud.
It is a known fact that some UFOs, which are likely scouting probes, are hiding by creating a cloud around them and while the reason is unknown, it is assumed that these probes cloak themselves in order to observe a particular area without being seen.
Dr. Eamonn Kerins, an astrophysicist from the University of Manchester, has an idea for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). It consists of a strategy called Mutual Detectability based on coordination game, a strategy in which both players make the same decision.
The Very Large Array (VLA) 27 radio antennas, New Mexico. Credit: Alex Savello/NRAO.
Imagine you’re at a concert and your phone battery is dead, but you need to find a friend. How do you do it?
Here’s an approach: both of can you employ the same strategy and find each other in the middle of the crowd. In this situation, both parties win a payoff for having the same desire and the same decisions. This is what Mutual Detectability is about. If two civilizations have enough knowledge of each other, it is likely they will try to communicate and reach each other. This type of strategy rationalization is the basis of game theory, and Kerins believes applying game theory to SETI could be a fruitful strategy.
Opposites don’t always atract
One obstacle for the civilizations looking for other civilizations has to do with technological advancement. When one civilization is more powerful than the other, the less powerful will feel less comfortable in making contact — for obvious reasons. Any civilization looking for others would have an incentive to listen, but not send out signals, so our galaxy might be full of listeners not able to find each other.
However, even if two civilizations are trying to find each other, they might not be able to if they use very different technologies. This could be avoided, says Kerins, if the more advanced civilization would use less-advanced signals. But you’d still need to actually be able to find them. This leads to the SETI paradox, if intelligent beings are looking for intelligent beings but not trying to reach out, then SETI is in vain.
Where to look?
Kerins points to the importance of the region of the Earth Transit Zone(ETZ). The idea is simple: not all planets in the universe can see us. If an alien civilization can observe us when our planet passes in front of the Sun and reduces its luminosity, they will be able to detect us. This is called the transit method, used by astronomers to detect exoplanets.
ETZ is the optimal area in which other beings could detect us in the galaxy using the transit method. Success in mutual detectability could mean detecting planets in the habitable zone and that are in the ETZ region. Similarly, we should focus on detecting potentially habitable planets that could be able to see us.
The transit method.
Credit: NASA Ames.
Good news is, there’s at least one planet that fits the bill.
K2-155 d is a Super-Earth in the habitable zone that happens to be in ETZ. The planet orbits an M dwarf star, the smallest type of star we know of, but it orbits it close enough to potentially have habitable temperatures. This type of star also makes the transit method easier to succeed, because a relatively small star has a clearer response to the transit. In other words, we see it blinking more clearly. That would be one starting to point SETI telescopes at.
But we already know many exoplanets. Only the Kepler mission discovered 2,662 planets in nearly 10 years of service. If we continue the search for planets and match the criteria stated by Dr. Kerins, our chances of communication would increase and the loneliness of Earth could end.
A new documentary currently running about the contents of a journal alleged to have been kept by Major Jesse Marcel, the first military witness to see the object that crashed in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947, has the famous incident back in the news, especially since Marcel told his family what he saw was “not made by human hands” and that he was pressured by the US government to retract his original statement and deny he ever saw evidence of a UFO. However, a few sites have also picked up on another old story by another alleged witness – this one a military nurse who claimed shortly before her death that she had been the only person to communicate telepathically with the only alien to survive the Roswell crash. If you’ve never heard this tale and wonder if it’s true, here’s the strange account of Matilda O’Donnell MacElroy, Senior Master Sergeant Women’s Army Air Force Medical Corp, about her conversation with Airl the alien.
Matilda O’Donnell McElroy, Senior Master Sergeant Women’s Army Air Force Medical Corp
“Many men have been killed to extinguish the possibility of revealing the knowledge I have helped to withhold from society, until now. Only a small handful of people on Earth have seen and heard what I have had the burden of keeping secret for sixty years. All those years I thought that I had been entrusted with a great deal of confidence by the “powers that be” in our government, although I have often felt that power is greatly misguided, to “protect” Mankind from the certain knowledge that, not only do intelligent extraterrestrial life forms exist, but that they have and continue to aggressively monitor and invade the lives of everyone on Earth every day.”
Matilda O’Donnell MacElroy wrote the letter in 2007 to author Lawrence R. Spencer, who had contacted MacElroy eight years prior for his boom, “The Oz Factors.” That interview gave her the trust to share with him at age 83 the story that she didn’t want to take to the grave (she revealed she was planning euthanasia in a few months). She claims she was the driver of a vehicle occupied by a “Mr. Cavitt,” a Counter Intelligence Officer sent to the crash site, and was instructed to help in any way in her capacity as a trained flight nurse. MacElroy claimed she saw a craft, dead aliens and one conscious and uninjured. When she attended to the alien, she claims to have received mental images, which she interpreted as the alien communicating telepathically. Revealing this to Mr. Cavitt, she was “assigned permanently to serve as a “companion” of the alien at all times”, conducting interviews and making a complete report. For doing this, she was promoted to Senior Master Sergeant and given a pay raise. MacElroy says she found out the alien’s name was Airl and appeared to be a female.
“Our communication did not consist of “spoken language”, in the conventional sense. Indeed, the “body” of the alien had no “mouth” through which to speak. Our communication was by telepathy. At first, I could not understand Airl very clearly. I could perceive images, emotions and impressions, but it was difficult for me to express these verbally. Once Airl learned the English language, she was able to focus her thoughts more precisely using symbols and meanings of words I could understand. Learning the English language was done as a favor to me. It was more for my own benefit than hers.“
MacElroy told Spencer in the letter that Airl was an officer, pilot and engineer serving in The Domain Expeditionary Force, and had been stationed at a base in the asteroid belt. She ended by instructing him to reveal the contents of the letter and her accompanying notes to as many people as possible as soon as possible so that “people understand the devastating consequences to our spiritual and physical survival if we fail to take effective action to undo the long-standing and pervasive effects of alien intervention on Earth.” Spencer did as he was told and “Alien Interview “ was published in 2008. The book was filled with alleged transcripts and notes on all of her conversations with Airl before the alien died or departed from the doll-sized body MacElroy had interviewed.
What can we make of all of this? Howandwhys.com, the site which recently brought the story back into the news, says it ”sounds a bit like a sci-fiction movie.” Many comments on the website selling the book believe it to be true, but one negative commenter pointed out that Spencer never actually met MacElroy in person, destroyed the letter and transcripts, and wants the reader to believe MacElroy decided to trust him after a 20 minute phone conversation nearly a decade before. Most interestingly, the commenter claims that the rank of “senior master sergeant” didn’t exist in 1947 and the Army Air Force went out of existence in that year.
Is this another piece to add to the still growing pile of “evidence” supporting the Roswell incident being an alien UFO crash and subsequent government coverup, or should it be added to the still growing pile of fictional accounts? This story definitely needs a documentary investigation.

Doing radio just recently, I was amazed how many people listening didn’t know much at all about theBetty and Barney Hill “alien abduction” of September 1961 – an event that, this year, will reach its 60th. Maybe, some people aren’t overly excited by older cases, but are far more enthused by what’s going on right now. Certainly, it’s good to keep in touch with what’s afoot now, but, as I see it, it’s always good to understand the earlier years of the UFO subject, too. So, for those who – just a few nights ago – admitted they didn’t know a great deal about the Hill affair, here’s how it goes. Old-timers might find some interesting things too! Now, let’s get to it. Although the 1950s-era abduction account of Antonio Villas Boas was reported quite widely in UFO-themed books, magazines, and newsletters in the 1950s and 1960s, it was the sexual nature of the claims that led many researchers of the UFO phenomenon to ignore, or completely write-off, the cases as fanciful tales born out of fantasy and not a lot else. In other words, those same researchers were repressed. That situation changed post-September 19, 1961.
That’s when a New Hampshire husband and wife, the aforementioned Barney and Betty Hill, were driving to their New Hampshire home (with their dog, Delsey), after taking a welcome vacation in Montreal, Canada. One might argue they needed another vacation after experiencing what was lurking and looming on the horizon. As the pair headed home, and at around 10.30 p.m., as they drove south of Lancaster, New Hampshire, they were puzzled by the sight of a strange light in the night sky above. Viewing the lighted object through binoculars convinced the Hills that what they were seeing was not an aircraft – of either a commercial or military kind. As they continued their drive through the mountains, Barney and Betty developed an uneasy sense that whoever was flying the craft was watching them; playing a game with them, toying with them, and practically goading them into following the maneuvers of the device.
Matters came to a sudden hair-raising head head when the object approached their car and dropped to a height of around ninety feet, causing Barney to bring the car to a sudden stop, in the middle of the road, on the darkened, mountain pass. Pancake-like was how Barney later described the unearthly-looking vehicle, after stepping out of the car and staring into the dark skies. As Barney focused on the craft with the binoculars, he couldn’t fail to see close to a dozen beings – wearing caps – milling around and peering down at the frightened pair. When the machine began to close in on the Hill’s car, Barney shouted to Betty that the things inside were going to kidnap them. They jumped back into the car at sped off at high speed. Craft and crew did not follow – or so it seemed at the time.
The traumatic encounter was far from over: it didn’t take long at all before Betty and Barney realized that there was something very wrong about their journey – around two hours of time was “missing” from it. Gone. Obliterated from their memories. Finally, after nightmares, restless nights of tossing and turning, and picking up on fragmented memories suggesting there was far more to the incident than they consciously remembered, the pair received help from a psychiatrist and neurologist in Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Benjamin Simon – who began a series of hypnotic sessions with the Hills in January 1964.
What surfaced out of those sessions, while Barney and Betty were rendered into altered states by the doctor was, to put it bluntly, astounding: if the results of the hypnosis were not the product of fantasy or suggestion, both of the Hills had been taken on board what was nothing less than an alien spacecraft, and subjected to a number of medical procedures that clearly left Betty and Barney in states of lasting turmoil. The then-modern era of alien abductions was born.
The United Arab Emirates' Mars probe just entered orbit around the red planet, the first in a Mars-mission bonanza
Morgan McFall-Johnsen
A rendering of the Hope orbiter, provided by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre.
The United Arab Emirates' first interplanetary mission, a spacecraft called Hope, reached Mars on Tuesday.
The orbiter is set to map Mars' climate across an entire Martian year.
It's the first of three Mars missions expected to reach the planet in the next two weeks.
The United Arab Emirates has flown a spacecraft into orbit around Mars, marking a first for the Arab world and a major accomplishment for the country's young space program.
The Hope probe â€" "Al-Amal" in Arabic â€" launched from Tanegashima Island in Japan on July 20, then journeyed seven months to the next planet over.
With Mars in its sights, the SUV-sized spacecraft fired all six of its Delta V thrusters for about 27 minutes on Tuesday, burning through half of its fuel to slow its speed by more than 2,100 mph.
In the days leading up to this braking manoeuvre, Emirati officials estimated a 50-50 chance of success, according to Agence France-Presse. If the manoeuvre had failed, the probe could have crashed into Mars or careened past it into deep space.
Instead, the spacecraft fell into an oval-shaped orbit around Mars on Tuesday morning. A signal confirming its success reached mission controllers on Earth at 11:14 a.m. ET.
Hope is the UAE Space Agency's first major mission. It aims to orbit the red planet for a full Martian year (about two Earth years) and create a comprehensive map of the planet's climate.
"It's the very first holistic weather satellite of Mars," Sarah Al Amiri, the mission's science lead, told Space.com.
The probe's unique orbit will allow it to monitor any given region of Mars for hours at a time, watching in infrared, ultraviolet, and visible light as clouds drift by and enormous dust storms roil through the red desert.
The UAE aims for Hope to map weather across the entire planet, through all times of day, over the full Martian year. If successful, this will be humanity's first such picture of the Martian climate.
"It is the time factor that has largely been missing from our knowledge and understanding of the weather system of Mars," Al Amiri said. "During every single time slot of the day, we want to know what happens across an entire day, because weather as we know it is a very dynamic system. We also want to understand what happens in different seasons on Mars. And that requires us to collect data across an entire year."
That data could help scientists better understand Mars' changing seasons and learn how the planet lost the thick atmosphere that protected it 4 billion years ago. Back then, the Martian surface may have been warm enough for liquid water, and scientists think the planet could have supported microbial life.
The UAE is now the fifth country to reach Mars. China is set to follow as the sixth Mars-faring nation on Wednesday, when its Tianwen-1 spacecraft is slated to insert itself into orbit around the planet. (Stay tuned for the Tianwen-1 rover landing in May.)
NASA's new Mars rover, Perseverance, is set to touch down on the planet's surface next week. In terms of visitors from Earth, this is the busiest month in Martian history.
Hope can monitor Martian weather up close and from afar
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the UAE, announced in 2014 that the country would be going to Mars. The decree came with a deadline â€" 2021 â€" to commemorate the nation's 50th anniversary.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre was tasked with developing and building the Mars-bound spacecraft. Engineers there equipped the orbiter with three scientific instruments to study Martian weather in infrared light, capture high-resolution photos, and measure atmosphere loss in ultraviolet.
The probe's irregular, or "elliptical," orbit will allow it to capture a unique picture of Martian weather and climate over time.
"When you're very close to Mars, you're moving as fast as Mars is turning on its axis, and therefore, you observe one side of Mars during multiple times of the day. And as you get farther away and you get slower, we observe several time zones on Mars in several locations," Al Amiri told Space.com. "We keep on doing this over the course of an entire 10-day window, and by 10 days, we've fully mapped everywhere on Mars during every time of the day."
As Hope circles Mars, completing an orbit once every 55 hours, the satellite will look for links between weather events in the lower atmosphere and the amount of hydrogen and oxygen bleeding into space from the planet's upper atmosphere. This could offer clues about the process that caused the planet to lose most of its atmosphere billions of years ago.
Hope will also monitor the Martian atmosphere's interactions with charged particles from the sun. Such interactions drive space weather around Earth and cause the aurora borealis.
The UAE might even be able to extend Hope's mission into a second Martian year, crafting new goals based on what the probe finds during its first year.

The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth’.

Jupiter’s Trojan Asteroids Offer Surprises Even Before NASA’s Lucy Mission has a Chance to Visit Them.
A new study out this month suggests that Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids may be more peculiar than previously thought. The Trojan asteroids are rocky objects which orbit the Sun just ahead of and just behind the gas giant, in gravitational sweet spots known as Lagrange points. The swarm ahead of Jupiter, known as the L4 (Greek) group, is slightly larger than the L5 (Trojan) swarm behind, but until now, astronomers believed that there was otherwise little differentiation between the two swarms. The paper released this month appears to change that.
The research team, using data from the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) based in Hawaii, has discovered unexpected variations in the shape of the Trojans. This new study suggests that objects in the L4 population are actually more elongated than those in the L5 population, on average.
In this image, Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids are shown in Green. The L4 group is labelled ‘Greeks’, because these objects are usually named after Greek heroes of the Trojan War, while the L5 asteroids are labelled ‘Trojans,’ as they are named after Trojan heroes. Credit: Wikipedia Commons
Why does this matter? Well, the difference “may imply a different collisional evolution within each cloud,” the paper suggests. The L4 swarm’s larger population means objects within it have had had more opportunities to collide with one another. As one Trojan slams into another, larger objects are worn down or broken into smaller pieces. Over billions of years of impacts, the result is that more L4 objects have been battered into eccentric shapes than those in L5.
This discovery is a lesson learned regarding the evolutionary history of the Solar System, and the Jupiter Trojans may have plenty more to offer scientists in that respect in the near future. In order to get a closer look at these primordial remnants of the early Solar System, NASA is set to launch a robotic spacecraft to visit the Trojans later this year. The mission is named Lucy, after the fossilized remains of an early human ancestor found in Ethiopia in 1974. Lucy taught paleontologists about the evolution of humans, and in a similar way, the Lucy spacecraft will be able to teach astronomers about the early history of the Solar System.

One of Lucy’s key objectives is to understand the composition and diversity of Trojan objects. It is believed that these asteroids represent the leftovers of planet formation, so learning about their structure, age, and component materials will help us to understand the ingredients which went into making the planets we see today, including, possibly, the organic materials which found their way to Earth in its infancy.
Lucy will take advantage of lessons learned from previous missions, carrying instruments similar to those flown on NASA’s New Horizons, which flew past Pluto in 2015, and OSIRIS-Rex, which is currently bringing a sample back to Earth from Asteroid Bennu. Using a series of clever gravity assists, Lucy will be able to visit more targets in a single mission than any solar system probe before it, flying past at least eight different asteroids over twelve years, starting with one in the main asteroid belt, then bouncing back and forth between objects in the L4 and L5 swarms.
Lucy’s orbital trajectory. Credit: Southwest Research Institute
Careful planning, and a bit of astronomical luck, means that Lucy will even get the chance to visit two targets in the L5 swarm which travel in high inclination orbits, making them normally very difficult to reach. The binary pair, Patroclus and Menoetius, will pass within reach of Lucy in 2033, making for a spectacular finale to Lucy’s primary mission.
Lucy will launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida on an Atlas V rocket in October. The complete mission timeline is as follows:
October 16, 2021: The three-week long launch window opens.
April 20, 2025: Main asteroid belt object (52246) Donaldjohanson.
August 12, 2027: L4 object (3548) Eurybates and its satellite, Queta.
September 15, 2027: L4 object (15094) Polymele.
April 18, 2028: L4 object (11351) Leucus.
November 11, 2028: L4 object (21900) Orus.
March 2, 2033: L5 object (617) Patroclus and its partner, Menoetius.
Whatever else Lucy might discover, it is clear that a combination of ground based-astronomy and spacecraft flybys are opening up a new chapter in our understanding of planetary formation, and the Trojans probably have more surprises in store for us in the years to come.
Since this video was recorded, asteroid Queta has been added to the mission profile, after its discovery in 2020.]
Dr. Steven Greer: The Cabal's Last Card Fake Alien Invasion - Deep State False Flags - The Classics
The work that medical doctor, researcher and author Steven Greer continues to do through the organization CSETI has made some tremendous breakthroughs in establishing contact with an intelligent phenomena, often perceived as UFOs, Light Phenomena and strange looking entities.
Steven demonstrates that there is a conscious connection being established with this phenomena and on many occasions they are being caught on camera.

Guys do you see the UFO lighting near the tree edge? Its a small UFO that came out the the huge UFO cloaked inside the cloud. Yes, two UFOs! The guy noticed the small one, and dismissed the cloud. But the cloud is the mother ship! Crazy cool that the eyewitness didnt even mention the UFO shaped cloud...its hiding a cloaked UFO in it. Wow, just wow!
Scott C. Waring
Eyewitness states:
I was driving home and saw the brightest light I have ever seen during the day. It was hovering when I first spotted it then it proceeded to move and that’s where the video starts. It also disappears at the end. Thoughts on what this is?
Triangle UFO Seen In Night Vision Over Rochester, Michigan. 11-2-2014, MUFON UFO Sighting News.
Date of sighting:Nov 2, 2014 Location of sighting: Rochester, Michigan, USA
Source: MUFON
This eyewitness was using a type 2 generation night vision scope. I know, because I own one. He also is holding a green pen laser, which I also have and use. He is using the green laser to get the attention of aliens so that they fly near him so he can catch it on night vision and record it.
Here we see not a TR3B, but a cloaked triangle craft. Its just one craft! See the two screenshots above, both different but both show a solid triangle craft. It may be invisible, but its visible in night vision! This object was drawn to this location because of the green laser! It was curious about it since it could see the laser for many miles away.
100% proof that triangle alien crafts do exist and do come to the UFO hunters when they try hard to get noticed with green pen lasers! Also nice he didn't hit the ship with the laser rather he politely followed it. Very thoughtful of the eyewitness.
Helicopter FLIR camera caught two UFOs over San Clemente Island, California
Over the years, many eyewitnesses from the Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard have reported strange UFO activity off the California's southern coast, especially the area around the islands San Clemente and Catalina and now once again UFO activity has been recorded and this time over Clemente Island.
2021/02/08. The video was recorded from a phone of a sailor on the H60 Romeo's FLIR.
FLIR cameras are typically used on military and civilian aircraft, use a thermographic camera that senses infrared radiation.
The helicopter was grounded off of San Clemente Island, California on a 2 week training event. They were doing routine maintenance after shutdown for all flights when they saw the lights.
There seems to be 2 balls of light in the distance, and when the FLIR locks on it speeds away so fast the FLIR can't keep up with it. Mufon case 113954.
These high speed objects are man-made or are they of alien origin?
CIA Document Dump Reveals 70 Years Of US Government UFO Info
“What does the U.S. government really know about UFOs and for how long have they known it?” Ufologists and UFO experiencers have been asking these questions for decades, and it seems that answers are finally emerging. Based on the CIA’s recent release, on January 14, 2021, of nearly 3,000 pages of documents that detail a wealth of fascinating data about UFO behavior and capabilities , it seems they know a lot and have known a lot about this topic for quite some time. These freshly declassified US government UFO info documents (published in their entirety on The Black Vault ) reveal the truth about harrowing and awe-inspiring encounters between reliable witnesses and “unidentified aerial phenomena” of unknown origin that have been occurring since the 1950s. The recently-released US government UFO info includes multiple stories of up-close sightings of mysterious disks , glowing spheres, wingless cigar-shaped cylinders, and other anomalous flying objects by military and commercial pilots, in the United States and elsewhere around the world .
In many instances these objects were observed visually and on radar performing aerodynamically impossible (for conventional aircraft) maneuvers. Other times they emitted odd beams of light and other forms of strange illumination. The CIA files even reported close encounters between shocked military personnel and actual aliens , who were spotted emerging from landed UFOs.
These types of stories have circulated for years, and have frequently been discussed on radio programs, podcasts, YouTube videos, at UFO conferences, and in online forums frequented by paranormal enthusiasts. But now, for the first time, the government is adding its official seal of approval to such reports, giving them a legitimacy that they lacked when they were coming exclusively from anonymous “whistleblowers,” lien disclosure gadflies, mysterious ex-military insiders, and other questionable sources sporting dubious or non-existent credentials.
The CIA has long withheld detailed information about UFOs from the public but that changed on January 14, 2021, when nearly 2 million documents were released and published online.
Government UFO Info: The US Senate Demands Answers
The January 2021 release of these new documents was apparently prompted by a special comment added to the recent $2.3 trillion COVID relief and government funding bill passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump at the end of last December. In this comment, the Senate Intelligence Committee, headed by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FLA), instructed the Director of National Intelligence, the Secretary of Defense, and the heads of all other intelligence agencies to “submit a report within 180 days of the date of the enactment of the Act, to the congressional intelligence and armed services committees on unidentified aerial phenomena .”
Under the terms of the Intelligence Committee directive, the government UFO info report would have to address “observed airborne objects that have not been identified” and should include a “detailed analysis of unidentified phenomena data collected by geospatial intelligence, signals intelligence, human intelligence , and measurement and signals intelligence.”
In an added paragraph that seems like a nod to X-Files fans, the Intelligence Committee further ordered “a detailed analysis of data of the FBI, which was derived from investigations of intrusions of unidentified aerial phenomena data over restricted United States airspace … and an assessment of whether this unidentified aerial phenomena activity may be attributed to one or more foreign adversaries.”
It must be noted that this government UFO info directive says nothing about public disclosure. It only requests that reports be created and forwarded to the Senate Intelligence Committee for analysis. This makes the decision of the CIA to release this latest batch of documents to the public a matter of choice rather than law. No one required them to do it, but for reasons unknown they decided to do it anyway and several months before the June deadline that requires them to file a report with the Senate Intelligence Committee.
CIA UFO Data Dump: Honest Disclosure Or Hidden Agenda?
Curiously, this is the second occasion in the last year where an agency of the US government has deliberately chosen to release information that whets the public’s appetite for insider information about UFOs. In April 2020, the Department of Defense took the extraordinary step of declassifying three U.S. Navy videos that showed unidentified aerial objects performing their tricks for navy pilots.
These videos, which were recorded in 2004 in one case and 2015 in the other two instances, had already been leaked to the media in 2007 and 2017. It appears the Defense Department’s primary objective in releasing them officially was to confirm their anomalous nature .
In their statement accompanying the release, the Defense Department said it wanted to “clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real.” They confirmed that “the authorized release of these unclassified videos does not reveal any sensitive capabilities or systems, and does not impinge on any subsequent investigations of military air space incursions by unidentified aerial phenomena.”
In other words, the United States Department of Defense wants its citizens to know that UFOs are real, that they aren’t secret military aircraft, and that investigations into their activities will continue if and when other encounters occur.
After decades of denial and obfuscation, it seems the US government is no longer interested in debunking UFOs or covering up the truth (whatever it might be) about their origin and nature.
Dutifully, mainstream media sources in the United States and the United Kingdom are following the government’s lead, and are now reporting UFO stories disclosed by official sources in a relatively straightforward manner, without the usual snide remarks, snarky tones, or tired and dismissive “explanations” that invoke swamp gas, ball lightning, weather balloons, or next-generation stealth aircraft.
Following this remarkable turn of events, it seems the old questions about “what do they know and for how long have they known it” have been rendered obsolete. In this current disclosure-oriented environment, what we should be asking instead is, “why are they doing this and why are they doing it now?”

Here are 4 of the space missions to keep an eye out for in 2021.
The James Webb space telescope’s gold-coated mirror undergoing cryogenic testing. After many delays, the new space telescope – Hubble’s successor – is currently scheduled to launch on October 31.
This year is shaping up to be just as interesting. Here are some of the missions to keep an eye out for.
1. Artemis 1
Artemis 1 is to be the first flight of the NASA-led, international Artemis program, whose goal was (originally) to return astronauts to the moon by 2024. Artemis-1, which is still scheduled for launch late this year, will consist of an uncrewed Orion spacecraft which will be sent on a three-week flight around the moon. It will reach a maximum distance from Earth of 280,000 miles (450,000 km), the farthest into space that any spacecraft that can transport humans will have ever flown.
Artemis 1 is designed to be launched into Earth orbit on the first NASA Space Launch System, which will be the most powerful rocket in operation. From Earth orbit, the Orion will be propelled onto a different path toward the moon by the rocket’s interim cryogenic propulsion stage. The Orion capsule will then travel to the moon under the power provided by a service module supplied by the European Space Agency (ESA).
The mission will provide engineers back on Earth with a chance to evaluate how the spacecraft performs in deep space and serve as a prelude to later crewed lunar missions. The launch of Artemis 1 is currently scheduled for late in 2021.
In February, Mars will receive a flotilla of terrestrial robotic guests from several countries. The United Arab Emirates’ Al Amal (Hope) spacecraft is the Arab world’s first interplanetary mission. It is scheduled to arrive in Mars orbit on February 9, where it will spend two years monitoring the Martian weather and disappearing atmosphere.
Arriving within a couple of weeks after Al Amal will be the China National Space Administration’s Tianwen-1, consisting of an orbiter and a surface rover. The spacecraft will enter Martian orbit for several months before deploying the rover to the surface. If it succeeds, China will become the third country to land anything on Mars. The mission has several objectives including mapping the mineral composition of the surface and searching for subsurface water deposits.
NASA’s Perseverance rover will land at Jezero Crater on February 18 and search for any signs of ancient life which may have been preserved in the clay deposits there. Critically, it will also store a cache of Martian surface samples on board as the first part in a highly ambitious international program to return samples of Mars to Earth.
3. Chandrayaan-3
In March 2021, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is planning to launch its third lunar mission: Chandrayaan-3. Chandrayaan-1 launched in 2008 and was one of the first major missions in the Indian space program. Comprising an orbiter and a surface penetrator probe, the mission was one of the first to confirm evidence of lunar water.
Unfortunately, contact with the satellite was lost less than a year later. Sadly, there was a similar mishap with its successor, Chandrayaan-2, which consisted of an orbiter, a lander (Vikram) and a lunar rover (Pragyan).
Artist’s concept of the the Chandrayaan-2 lunar mission from India.
If all goes well the Chandrayaan-3 rover will touch down in the lunar south pole’s Aitken basin. It’s of particular interest as it is thought to host numerous deposits of subsurface water ice – a vital component for any future sustainable lunar habitation.
4. James Webb Space Telescope
The James Webb Space Telescope is the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, but has had a rocky path to being launched. Initially planned for a 2007 launch, the Webb telescope is almost 14 years late and has cost roughly U.S. $10 billion (£7.4 billion) after apparent underestimates and overruns similar to those experienced by Hubble.
Whereas Hubble has provided some amazing views of the universe in visible and ultraviolet region of light, Webb is planning to focus observations in the infrared wavelength band. The reason for this is that when observing really distant objects there will probably be gas clouds in the way.
The galaxy NGC 2275 seen by Hubble.
Image via ESA/ Hubble/ NASA/ J. Lee and the PHANGS-HST Team.
These gas clouds block really small wavelengths of light, such as X-rays and ultraviolet light, while longer wavelengths like infrared, microwave and radio can get through more easily. So by observing in these longer wavelengths we should see more of the universe.
Webb also has a much bigger mirror of 21-foot (6.5-meter) diameter compared to Hubble’s 8-foot (2.4-meter) diameter mirror, essential for improving image resolution and seeing finer detail.
The primary mission of Webb is look at light from galaxies at the edge of the universe which can tell us about how the first stars, galaxies and planetary systems formed. Potentially this could include some information about the origin of life as well, as Webb is planning on imaging exoplanet atmospheres in high detail, searching for the building blocks of life. Do they exist on other planets, and if so, how did they get there?
We are also likely to be treated to some stunning images similar to those produced by Hubble. Webb is currently scheduled to launch on an Ariane 5 rocket on October 31.
Astronomers may have captured the first good look at giant flares from the strongest magnets in the universe.
The likely cause of these giant flares? Starquakes trillions of trillions of times stronger than any earthquakes, scientists reported at the 237th American Astronomical Society meeting, held virtually last week.
The most powerful magnets in the cosmos are magnetars, which possess magnetic fields about 100 trillion times more powerful than Earth's, or 10 trillion times that of an ordinary fridge magnet, Kevin Hurley, an astrophysicist at the University of California, Berkeley, said during a news conference held Jan. 13.
Detections of GRB 200415A by NASA's Fermi, Wind, Mars Odyssey and Swift missions provide bands of possible locations, and these bands overlap in the central region of the Sculptor galaxy. (Image credit: NASA GSFC/Adam Block/Mount Lemmon SkyCenter/University of Arizona)
Magnetars are a rapidly spinning kind of neutron star, which is a corpse of a star that died in a catastrophic explosion known as a supernova. "Magnetars are up to a thousand times more magnetic than ordinary neutron stars," Soebur Razzaque, an astroparticle physicist at the University of Johannesburg and the senior author on one of the studies presented, said in a statement.
"In the Milky Way there are tens of thousands of neutron stars," Razzaque added. "Of those, only 30 are currently known to be magnetars."
Once magnetars are born, they only stay magnetars for about 10,000 years before their magnetic fields weaken to render them relatively ordinary neutron stars, Eric Burns, an astrophysicist at Louisiana State University and co-author of the new study, said at the press conference. Magnetars are typically seen in star-forming regions, such as starburst galaxies, he noted.
Previous research discovered magnetars regularly explode with X-ray bursts about one-tenth of a second long that each pack up to about the same amount of energy the sun gives off in a year. In three instances over the past 40 years, astronomers have seen magnetars in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies explode with even brighter, more energetic outbursts of X-rays and gamma rays. However, such giant flares were so powerful, they blinded any sensors that glimpsed them, making them difficult to study in any great detail.
Now researchers may have the best look yet at a giant magnetar flare, one good enough to help them deduce its possible origins.
Scientists analyzed the extremely bright gamma-ray burst GRB 200415A, which five space observatories that form the so-called Interplanetary Network detected on April 15, 2020. Gamma-ray bursts are the most powerful kinds of explosions known in the universe, each giving off as much energy in milliseconds to minutes as the sun is expected to emit during its entire 10-billion-year lifetime.
This graphic shows the three nearest magnetar giant flares ever detected. The first one erupted in 1979 in the Large Magellanic Cloud; the others erupted in 1998 and 2004 within our galaxy. (Image credit: NASA GSFC)
At its peak, this newfound explosion was about 360 trillion times more luminous than the sun. "That is about 100,000 years of solar energy released in only 140 milliseconds," Hurley said.
The Interplanetary Network triangulated the location of the gamma-ray burst to the center of the nearby Sculptor galaxy, formally known as NGC 253, which is located about 11.4 million light-years from Earth in the Sculptor constellation. Previously detected GRBs came from relatively far away from the Milky Way, but GRB 200415A originated much closer to home, in cosmic terms.
Gamma-ray bursts are typically divided into two groups — long and short — depending on whether they last more or less than two seconds. Short gamma-ray bursts are most likely caused by the mergers of neutron stars, while long gamma ray-bursts are linked with supernovas.
GRB 200415A lasted just 140 milliseconds, about the blink of an eye. "It's as fast as snapping your fingers," Oliver Roberts, an astrophysicist at the Universities Space Research Association in Huntsville, Alabama who led another new study on GRB 200415A, said at the news conference.
This speed would ordinarily suggest it was a short gamma-ray burst. However, the pattern of light seen from this outburst was very different from that seen from short gamma-ray bursts that previous research found were caused by colliding neutron stars.
Instead, GRB 200415A's light pattern was a near copy of those previously seen from giant magnetar flashes. Those began with an intense flash about one-fifth of a second long, followed by a string of pulses lasting about two to 12 seconds.
The cause of this newfound giant magnetar flare was likely a "starquake" — a rupture of the magnetar's solid crust, Roberts said. This quake was huge — magnitude 27.8 in strength, or about one thousand trillion trillion (10^27, or a 1 with 27 zeroes behind it) times more powerful "than the largest known terrestrial earthquake, which was the magnitude 9.5 [earthquake] in Chile in 1960," Hurley said.
The researchers suggested this starquake not only released a bright flash of gamma rays, but also heated the magnetar's crust. As the magnetar whirls around, this super-hot crust looks like a series of bright flashes that dim as the surface cools, Hurley told Space.com.
The scientists added this starquake likely also spit out a blob of plasma traveling about 99% the speed of light, Nicola Omodei, an astrophysicist at Stanford University who participated in the study, said at the press conference.
After four days, this blob encountered the shockwave created when the giant bubble of plasma around the magnetar, known as its magnetosphere, slammed into the interstellar medium of gas and dust between stars at a speed of about 2.2 million mph (3.6 million kph). When the blob collided with this shockwave, it generated another pulse of gamma rays seen 19 seconds after the initial flash. The gamma rays in this second outburst were even more energetic than those seen in the first one, he noted.
All in all, these new findings suggest that maybe a small percent of known short gamma-ray bursts are caused by giant magnetar flares, Burns said.
The scientists detailed their findings Jan. 13 at an online meeting of the American Astronomical Society meeting. Hurley, Roberts and their colleagues detailed their findings in twostudies in the Jan. 14 issue of the journal Nature. Omedei and his colleagues detailed their findings online Jan. 13 in the journal Nature Astronomy.

This Mars meteorite, which weighs 0.75 pounds (327 grams), landed in July 2011 as part of a shower in the vicinity of Tissint, Morocco, the location that gives the meteorite its name. A cross section of a small Aguas Zarcas fragment shows colorful clays that might include complex organic compounds. Water may have recently flowed within meteorites, suggesting the asteroids they broke off from may bear ice, a new study finds.
Water may have recently flowed within meteorites, suggesting the asteroids they broke off from may bear ice, a new study finds.
Researchers analyzed carbon-rich meteorites known as carbonaceous chondrites. These rare space rocks are one of the most ancient types of meteorites, whose parent bodies formed in the early days of the solar system. Previous research suggested that carbonaceous chondrites raining on Earth likely helped deliver water and organic matter to our newborn planet.
Prior work found that a number of minerals seen in carbonaceous chondrites likely formed due to chemical reactions involving flowing liquid water. However, scientists had thought such activity halted about 4.5 billion years ago, within the first 4 million years or so of the solar system's history.
Now, scientists in a new study have discovered signs of far more recent liquid flow within these meteorites, occurring less than a million years ago.
In this study, researchers examined carbonaceous chondrites collected from around the world. They focused on variations of the elements uranium and thorium known as isotopes. (Isotopes of an element each have different numbers of neutrons in their atomic nuclei. For instance, uranium-234 atoms are uranium isotopes with 142 neutrons, while uranium-238 atoms each have 146 neutrons.)
The levels of different uranium and thorium isotopes within these meteorites should have depended on how long the isotopes usually last before they begin to radioactively decay. Instead, the scientists found unusually high levels of the relatively short-lived isotope uranium-234, compared with longer-lived uranium-238, in all the carbonaceous chondrites they looked at. Most of the samples also had unusually high levels of uranium-238 compared with thorium-230, an isotope that results from the radioactive decay of uranium-234.
The most likely explanation for these findings, they found, was that liquid water flowed within the parent bodies of these meteorites, likely when the collisions that broke the meteorites off those carbonaceous asteroids melted ice within those rocks, the researchers said.
They think this because Uranium and thorium isotopes respond in different ways to liquid water — uranium is soluble in water, whereas thorium is not — which would explain the unusual isotope levels seen within these meteorites.
The anomalous isotope levels seen within the meteorites should disappear within a million years due to radioactive decay, the scientists noted. This suggests these meteorites possessed liquid water during that time.
All in all, this discovery suggests "these asteroids still contain ice, and that means that they could, at any time, have delivered both water and organics, which combined are critical for life," study lead author Simon Turner, an isotope geochemist at Macquarie University in Australia, told Space.com.
Previous research has detected water ice on asteroids such as Themis. "Carbonaceous asteroids might be frozen mud balls rather than rocky bodies as commonly thought," Turner said. "Our data provides strong evidence to support that."
The scientists detailed their findings in the Jan. 8 issue of the journal Science.

The star system of Trappist-1 is home to the largest group of Earth-like planets ever discovered elsewhere in the Universe by astronomers. This means that investigating these seven rocky worlds gives us a good idea of how common exoplanets with similar compositions to our own are in the Milky Way and the wider cosmos.
New research has revealed that these planets, which orbit the Trappist-1 star 40 light-years away from Earth, all have remarkably similar compositions and densities. Yet, all are less dense than Earth.
The results could indicate these are worlds with much more water than is found on earth, or possibly even that these planets are composed almost entirely of rust.
An artist’s view of the TRAPPIST-1 system. The TRAPPIST-1 star is home to the largest batch of roughly Earth-size planets ever found outside our solar system. An international study involving researchers from the Universities of Bern, Geneva and Zurich now shows that the exoplanets have remarkably similar densities, which provides clues about their composition (NASA/JPL-Caltech)
This similarity between the exoplanets makes the Trappist-1 system significantly different from our own solar system which consists of planets with radically compositions and densities. Trappist-1’s worlds are dense, meaning they are like the rocky planets in our solar system, Earth, Mars, Venus, and Mercury. The system seems to be lacking larger gas dominated planets like Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
The finding, documented in a paper published in the Planetary science Journal shows how the system, first discovered in 2016, offers insight into the wide variety of planetary systems that could fill the Universe.
This chart shows, on the top row, artist concepts of the seven planets of TRAPPIST-1 with their orbital periods, distances from their star, radii, masses, densities and surface gravity as compared to those of Earth. On the bottom row, the same numbers are displayed for the bodies of our inner solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. (NASA/ JPL – Caltech)
“The new observations allowed us to use transit data from a much longer time span than was available to us for the 2018 calculations,” explains Simon Grimm of the University of Bern, who as well as being involved in the current study, was part of a 2018 team that provided the most accurate calculation of the masses of the seven planets thus far. “With the new data, we were able to refine the mass and density determinations of all seven planets.
“It turned out that the derived densities of the planets are even more similar than we had previously expected.”
The similarity in densities observed in the Trappist-1 exoplanets seen by the astronomers hailing from the Universities of Bern, Geneva and Zurich, indicates that there is a good chance they are composed of the same materials at similar ratios.
These are the same materials that we believe form most terrestrial planets, iron, oxygen, magnesium, and silicon. But there is a significant difference between our terrestrial world and the Trappist-1 exoplanets.
Comparison of TRAPPIST-1 to the Solar System: A planet’s density is determined by its composition, but also by its size: Gravity compresses the material a planet is made of, increasing the planet’s density. Uncompressed density adjusts for the effect of gravity, and can reveal how the composition of various planets compare. (NASA/JPL-Caltech )
The planets in the Trappist-1 system appear to be about 8% less dense than the Earth. This suggests that the materials that comprise them exist in different ratios than they do throughout our home planet.
This difference in density could be the result of several different factors.
One of the possibilities being investigated by the team is that the surfaces of the Trappist-1 exoplanets could be covered with water, reducing their overall density. Combining the planetary interior models with the planetary atmosphere models, the team was able to evaluate the water content of the seven TRAPPIST-1 planets with what Martin Turbet, an astrophysicist at the University of Geneva and co-author of the study describes as “a precision literally unprecedented for this category of planets.”
For the Trappist-1 system’s four outermost planets, should water account for the difference in density, the team has estimated that water would account for 5% of their overall masses. This is considerably more than the 0.1% of Earth’s total mass made up of water.
Rust Nevers Sleeps for the Trappist-1 Planets
Another possibility that could explain why the Trappist-1 exoplanets have lower densities than Earth is the fact that they could be composed of less iron than our planet is–21% rather than the 32% found in the Earth.
It’s also possible that the iron within the seven exoplanets could be bonded with oxygen forming iron oxides–commonly known as rust. This additional oxygen would reduce the planet’s densities.
Shown here are three possible interiors of the TRAPPIST-1 exoplanets. The more precisely scientists know the density of a planet, the more they can narrow down the range of possible interiors for that planet. All seven planets have very similar densities, so they likely have a similar composition (NASA/ JPL – Caltech)
Iron oxides give Mars its rust-red colour, but they are pretty much confined to its surface. Its core is comprised of non-oxidized iron like the solar system’s other terrestrial planets. If iron-oxide accounts for the seven exoplanet’s lower densities it implies that these worlds are rusty throughout and lacking solid non-oxidized iron cores.
“The lower density might be caused by a combination of the two scenarios – less iron overall than and some oxidized iron,” explains Eric Angol, an astrophysicist at the University of Washington and lead author of the new study. “They might contain less iron than Earth and some oxidized iron like Mars.”
Angol also points out that the Trappist-1 planets are likely to have a low-water content, an idea supported by previous research. “Our internal and atmospheric structure models show that the three inner planets of the TRAPPIST-1 system are likely to be waterless and that the four outer planets have no more than a few per cent water, possibly in liquid form, on their surfaces,” says Turbet.
This seems to favour the theory that the lower density of the Trappist-1 planets is a result of one or both of the iron scenarios suggested by the researchers.
There’s Still a Lot to Learn from Trappist-1
Since its discovery in 2o16, the Trappist system has been the subject of a wealth of observations made by both space and ground-based telescopes alike. Before it was decommissioned at the start of January 2020 the team used the Spitzer Space Telescope to collect their data. This telescope, operated by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, alone has clocked in more than 1,000 hours of targeted observations of the exoplanets.
This new study demonstrated the importance of studying systems such as Trappist-1 for extended periods of time.
Caroline Dorn, an astrophysicist at the University of Zurich also highlights the fact that studying systems like this could answer questions about the habitability of exoplanets and the possibility of life elsewhere in the Universe.
“The TRAPPIST-1 system is fascinating because around this one star we can learn about the diversity of rocky planets within a single system,” concludes Dorn. “And we can actually learn more about an individual planet by studying its neighbours as well, so this system is perfect for that.”
“The night sky is full of planets, and it’s only been within the last 30 years that we’ve been able to start unravelling their mysteries, also for determining the habitability of these planets.”

SCIENTISTS DISCOVER THE REASON FOR UNEXPLAINED ACTIVITY ON MARS
The answer may lie just beneath the surface of the Red Planet.
FOR CENTURIES AFTER GALILEO made the first observations of Mars in 1610, the planet appeared to our Earth eyes as a quiet, dusty, and ultimately, dead planet.
But in the last 50 years, scientists have sent multiplespacecraftto observe the Red Planet up close, revealing Mars is very much an active planet, wracked by continuous geological activity and riven with subsurface canals.
One piece of evidence for this activity is the fact the Martian landscape regularly experiences a form of natural disaster which, here on Earth, has the potential to level cities and block roads: Landslides.
For as long as we have known they occur on Mars, so too have scientists not known their cause. But a new study may have uncovered the reason why this Earth-like feature also occurs on Mars lurking beneath the planet's surface. The findings have major implications for future human missions to explore Mars.
The study was published Wednesday in the journal Science Advances.

HERE'S THE BACKGROUND
In September, 2018 NASA's Mars Reconnoissance Orbiter caught a glimpse of what appeared to be a recent landslide in a crater near a region of the planet called Nili Fossae.
The landslides were formed by large amounts of rock and soil moving downslope at a speed of up to 360 kilometers per hour, and extending for over tens of kilometers.
However, scientists were not sure what caused the landslides to form.

WHAT'S NEW
Janice Bishop, senior research scientist at the SETI Institute and lead author behind the new study, was studying the unusual chemical processes which take place beneath Antarctica's ice when she noticed a strange similarity to Mars.
"Antartica is a cold and dry environment like Mars," Bishop tells Inverse.
"So we started looking at other analogs as well to try to understand this chemistry."
Bishop and her team studied both the Dead Sea in Israel and Salar de Pajonales in the Atacama Desert, in addition to conducting experiments in the lab, to glean further insights as to what may be occurring on Mars to cause changes in the planet's topography.
Through their observations, they found that specific chemical salts interact with gypsum, or water underground, and this causes disruptions on the surface, including ground collapse and landslides.
"The chlorine salts are very deliquescent, they absorb a lot of water like a sponge so they become a liquid," Bishop explains. This is similar to a more terrestrial, and familiar process you can see in your own kitchen, she says.
"If you leave your salt shaker out, it absorbs water, and becomes sticky."
Similarly, the chlorine salt and sulfate found in the icy underground water beneath Mars' surface creates an unstable, liquid-like slush which causes disturbances in the above ground surface.

This same process may have also caused landslides to take place on Earth millions of years ago. However, since then, our planet was covered by oceans and plants which covered its surface, preventing us from observing the markings leftover by early processes on the planet.
WHY DO WE STUDY MARS?
"I think Mars is really interesting because it's kind of a window to our origins on early Earth," Bishop says. "On our planet, life took off and we have plants and bacteria, we have highways and roads but on Mars you get to see the rocks, the planet isn’t contaminated by all the things we have here so you can see its history."
Mars may be a dry and desolate planet today, but scientists believe that it may have had a similar start to Earth, beginning as a warm and wet world. However, gradually over time, the planet lost its atmosphere.
"The evolution of the planet was kind of frozen in time, its not that it would’ve been the same as Earth but there could’ve been a lot of similarities," Bishop says.
WHAT'S NEXT
The new study suggests that the subsurface of Mars holds a lot more clues to the history and evolution of the planet than scientists previously believed.
Bishop suggests that more efforts need to be concentrated on drilling beneath the surface of Mars.
"So far, we've only seen the surface," Bishop says.
NASA's Mars rovers have poked at rocks, and the space agency's Insight mission, which has been attempting to drill on the Red Planet, recently called it quits. However, the upcoming European Space Agency's ExoMars mission, which is scheduled to launch in 2022, will dig two meters beneath the surface.
From there, Bishop hopes to get a better understanding of the processes that are taking place beneath the surface.
"Understanding the processes on Mars helps us understand what happened on Earth since our history was erased," she says.
Abstract:
On Mars, seasonal martian flow features known as recurring slope lineae (RSL) are prevalent on sun-facing slopes and are associated with salts. On Earth, subsurface interactions of gypsum with chlorides and oxychlorine salts wreak havoc: instigating sinkholes, cave collapse, debris flows, and upheave. Here, we illustrate (i) the disruptive potential of sulfate-chloride reactions in laboratory soil crust experiments, (ii) the formation of thin films of mixed ice-liquid water “slush” at −40° to −20°C on salty Mars analog grains, (iii) how mixtures of sulfates and chlorine salts affect their solubilities in low-temperature environments, and (iv) how these salt brines could be contributing to RSL formation on Mars. Our results demonstrate that interactions of sulfates and chlorine salts in fine-grained soils on Mars could absorb water, expand, deliquesce, cause subsidence, form crusts, disrupt surfaces, and ultimately produce landslides after dust loading on these unstable surfaces.
Although some of them were leaked out from under the Iron Curtain of the Cold War days, and many more have been brought into the public arena since, many UFO incidents and conspiracies are still likely buried beneath the secrecy of political ideology and mutual mistrust.
Considering how vast a country Russia is – and how much more territory the Soviet Union took in during its reign – combined with over four decades worth of suppressed information to be accounted for, there is surely a treasure trove of encounters still to be investigated.
We have written of several of these strange incidents and reports before. The Boshich Space Wreckage for example is still one of the most intriguing reports on record. The strange Birdman of Pripyat is another bizarre series of encounters in the wake of the Chernobyl Disaster.
Alien Encounters From Behind The Iron Curtain
Perhaps one of the most intriguing UFO encounters is that of the Voronezh sighting in 1989, thought by some to be disinformation, either to see how seriously the west would take such reports or just to simply feed outright false information. It is arguably a little of both. The fact that the report would enter the mainstream courtesy of the Russian news agency, TASS would also seem to suggest so.
On 27th September 1989, according to the report, a huge, disc-like craft landed in full view of thousands of people on a busy day in the city of Voronezh. Several tall beings then exited the craft and took in their surroundings. They then re-entered the craft, taking off into the air, leaving a “strange residue” behind where their ship had been stationed.
The following month in October 1989, TIME magazine even ran a story on the incident, and more to the point, why the Soviet Union would have allowed such a release to go international. According to Howard G. Chua-Eoan, he believed that the story was a way of testing the “glasnost policy” – an agreement between the two nations to an open media. You can read this article in full here and check out the videos below for further viewing.
An even more bizarre encounter is that of an apparent battle between Soviet military and alien beings, at the bottom of the icy Lake Baikal in Siberia. The account would come to light due to an apparent leak of official documents by a former Soviet navy officer, Vladimir Azhazha.
According to Azhazha, in the winter of 1982, the Soviet military were monitoring reports of strange lights hovering over the lake (incidentally, the area is still considered a UFO hotspot). Military divers would venture down to the icy depths of the lake. They would witness several strange humanoid beings, each dressed in shiny silver clothing, and each wearing a small oxygen mask. The unit would launch an attack on the beings, who responded with a technology akin to a sonar weapon. Three of the unit were killed, and the four survivors had major injuries. You can read a little more of the encounter here, and you can check out the video below.
The Far-Reach Of The Cold War
Although the incident didn’t occur in Russia, it did take place in Soviet controlled Berlin in East Germany. Largely because the Soviet regime stated that UFO sightings were in fact weapons tests “of the evils of the United States”, Linke would keep the encounter to himself until he finally managed to escape the repressed existence on the east side of the Berlin Wall. To make it known of a belief in such sightings invited government “interest” in you that could result in imprisonment.
Once Linke settled in the west to begin his new life with his family, he would tell of his encounter to a Greek newspaper. Interestingly, the CIA would use the newspaper article as a source and put the incident on their own records.
In the summer of 1952, as he was making his way home with his eleven-year old daughter, Gabriella, the pair would spot something in the distance. Believing it to be a deer, the pair crept forward to get a better look. They soon realised it wasn’t a deer.
Settling around forty meters away from the scene, Oscar and Gabriella could see two men examining the ground in front of them with bright lights flashing from their “shiny, metallic clothing!” Nearby was some kind of craft that resembled a “huge frying pan” with a “black conical tower” on the top of it.
When Gabriella let out an involuntary gasp of shock, the two men quickly boarded the craft, which rose into the air, rotating as it did so, before vanishing straight up into the evening sky. For years Linke believed they had witnessed secret Soviet technology and feared having his “movements restricted!” He stated to the newspaper years after the incident that, “The Soviets do not want anyone else to see their work”, going further to say that many people had restricted movements, and even house arrest, because “they know too much!”
Maybe one of the most interesting UFO encounters is one experienced by an apparent Soviet war hero pilot, who “doesn’t exist” and “is no hero of the Soviet Union!” At least that is what UFO researcher, Timothy Good, was told when he questioned Soviet officials.
According to the account put forward by Good, Arkady Ivanovich Apraksin was one of the most highly decorated pilots in Soviet history. So much so, that in the years after the Second World War, he would become the finest test pilot for the Soviet military, putting the cutting edge of Soviet aviation technology through their paces.
On one such test flight on 16th June 1948, he would witness a “cucumber-shaped” craft in the skies in front of him. It was heading straight for him. When it got within ten kilometres of his plane, it vanished out of sight. At the same time, Apraksin’s plane failed and he was forced to make an emergency landing.
He would have another encounter just short of a year later in May 1949. Again, the craft would interfere with his plane, and this time, although he managed to land again, he sustained substantial, injury. It appeared at this point, the Soviet regime were putting his removal from history into action. He would be sent for “re-evaluation” and then eventually registered as “Group One Disabled” – this basically meant he was not fit for active service.
Apraksin literally vanished in the years following his time as a test pilot. Was this due to embarrassment on the regime’s part of a pilot speaking of such “crazy” things. Or was he being removed from official records for another reason?
The Conspiracies Of The Lost Cosmonauts
Perhaps one of the most outlandish and chilling conspiracies said to have played out behind the wall of the Soviet Union during the Cold War is that of the Lost Cosmonauts. While there is no solid proof that the recordings said to have been intercepted by the Judica-Cordiglia brothers in 1961 are one-hundred percent genuine, the battle for the stars between the United States and the Soviet Union was very real, and so does lend a little bit of credibility to the claim. It is really that much of a stretch of the imagination to think that in their desire to score a huge propaganda victory over the United States (and the west as a whole), tragedies were downplayed and essentially kept out of the history books altogether?
The brothers claimed to have intercepted a total of nine such recordings altogether, but one in particular was especially harrowing. Claimed by the brothers to have been recorded in May 1961, the two minute audio is of a female cosmonaut communicating her concerns that her pod is about to burn up upon re-entry. Incidentally, there is no reply from the assumed control tower, despite the woman’s pleas that “I can see a flame! I can see a flame! I feel hot!” You can read a full transcript of the encounter here.
One last point worth mentioning here is, despite the Soviet government (at the time) and the Russian government denying there being any truth to the claims, is an apparent report from the old Soviet news agency TASS, who claimed an “unmanned satellite” had come back to Earth on 26th May 1961. Many believe this unmanned satellite was actually the remains of the unfortunate female cosmonaut. You can read a little more about that here and here.
If there is any truth at all to the Judica-Cordiglia brother’s claims, then somewhere in space – possibly still in the Earth’s orbit – there are several early 1960s space pods-turned-floating tombs containing the bodies of several unknown space pilots. Perhaps one of them was the aforementioned Arkady Ivanovich Apraksin.
Check out the videos below. The first looks at the alleged recording of the unknown female cosmonaut, while the following videos look at the Lost Cosmonauts conspiracy in a little more detail. The video below those looks at the conspiracy of Soviet UFO files.
Warp Drives, Space Manipulation, And The Pentagon’s UFO Program
Talk of wormholes and other dimensions outside the parameters of science fiction are usually greeted with nervous looks and uncomfortable sniggers from most. The fact is, however, that many intelligence agencies, in particular, the United States’ Defense Intelligence Agency, has at the very least, experimented and researched the logistics of these theories, as well as the technology required to embark on such endeavors. A “treasure trove” of documents was recently released in the United States following requests by a media outlet in Las Vegas including one, which we will look at in a moment, that looks in depth at not only the prospect of wormholes for space travel but how this could be accomplished. As will also look at a little later, these “projects” appear to have been taking place behind closed doors for over a decade, at the very least, with the roots of them going back to the years following the Second World War and the drastic and urgent increase in UFO activity across the planet – in particular, in the United States.
Warp Drive, Dark Energy, and the Manipulation of Extra Dimensions
Although the paper was dated 2nd April 2010, it was only very recently cast back into the public arena by Las Vegas-based media platform KLAS-TV who, incidentally, share close connections with respected UFO researcher, George Knapp.
The 34-page file titled, Warp Drive, Dark Energy, and the Manipulation of Extra Dimensions goes into intricate details of exactly what the title suggests. The document is just one of a plethora of “scientific studies of UFOs” by the Pentagon in 2007. As the opening lines of the document states:
“If one is to realistically entertain the notion of interstellar exploration in time-frames of a human lifespan, a dramatic shift in traditional approach to spacecraft propulsion is necessary. It has been known and well tested since the time of Einstein that all matter is restricted to motion at sublight velocities, and that as matter approaches the speed of light, its mass asymptotically approaches infinity. This mass increase ensures that an infinite amount of energy would be necessary to travel at the speed of light, and, thus, this speed is impossible to reach and represents an absolute speed limit to all matter traveling through spacetime."
IT quickly concludes that even if such a propulsion method was developed and utilized, the nearest star would still take multiple decades to reach from the start point of Earth. It then, however, speaks of recent developments in that “physicists have discovered two loopholes to Einstein’s ultimate speed limit – the Einstein-Rosen bridge (commonly referred to as a ‘wormhole’) and the warp drive. Fundamentally, both ideas involve manipulation of spacetime!” Furthermore, this would allow for “Faster-than-light (FTL) travel!”
The report continues that the wormhole will “connect two potentially distant regions of space”, essentially creating a “shortcut!” This would, in theory, result in the craft being “instantaneously be transported” from one point in space to another. The paper states that “observational evidence” suggests that wormholes don’t exist – at least not locally. They can, however, be manipulated into existence. The warp drive, the report states, “involves local manipulation of the fabric of space in the immediate vicinity of the spacecraft”. This manipulation creates “an asymmetric bubble of space that is contracting in front of the spacecraft while expanding behind it”.
According to the projections, it would be possible to reach Mars in just over three minutes, while reaching as far as Neptune would take only four hours. With regards to more distant destinations, the Orion Nebula, which is 1,599 light years away, could be reached in just over a year utilizing such wormhole-like technology.
It then talks about how the “spacecraft remains stationary inside this ‘warp bubble’ and the movement of space itself facilitates the relative motion of the spacecraft”. This is remarkably similar to how apparent whistleblower, Bob Lazar, spoke about the propulsion systems of alien crafts that he had back-engineered for the United States shadow government in the 1980s.
He would state that UFO crafts had “waveguides” that in turn connected to antimatter reactors that would create a gravity field which makes “manipulation of space and time possible!” He would further describe this manipulation was though the spacecraft in question was a “big stone on a sheet of rubber!” Upon turning on the gravity drives it would “pull the desired destination to it!” When the gravity drive was shut off, space (the rubber sheet) would return to normal, with the craft (the big stone) riding the wave of space-time – essentially, a wormhole. You can read a little more about Lazar and UFO propulsion here. The video below features Lazar speaking about UFO propulsion in a little more detail. You can also view the aforementioned files in full here or here.
The Pentagon and UFOs
According to a report in the New York Times in December 2017 (which you can read in full here), the Defense Department spent $22 million on the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program. That is, however, all that is known. The records do not show how the money was spent, where it went, or why. Only that the figure of $22 million was allocated to this particular platform. In reality, this money would appear to have been earmarked for “black budget” projects – at least according to those who keep an intense eye on government spending.
Like the above research into “warp drives” and creating wormholes, this project was first set up in 2007 by the Pentagon. Luis Elizondo would run the project until its closure in 2012. However, according to some, its closure was for public consumption, and behind closed doors, the project continues – as does the (now) secretive funding. Elizondo would go public with what he knew about the continued interest and funding the Pentagon had regarding the existence of UFOs. At the same time, US authorities would release two previously classified videos from their files showing UFO activity.
In 2008, the Defense Intelligence Agency would put parts of its research out to the highest bidder. Only weeks later, Bigelow Aerospace, owned by millionaire investor, Robert Bigelow, was awarded the contract. This contract came only weeks after Bigelow shut down what appeared to be one of the most promising independent studies of strange and paranormal phenomena in history at Skinwalker Ranch.
Part of the contract would require Bigelow to “provide a facility that qualified for top-secret work!” Skinwalker Ranch today, is completely off-limits to the general public. Perhaps also interestingly, given the above information regarding the creation of warp drives in order to travel through space in hours instead of years, is Bigelow’s chosen area of interest following the public closure of Skinwalker Ranch. As well as the contract work with NASA, Bigelow Aerospace would look to venture into “space tourism” in the near future.
Whatever the details of the situation, it appears certain that the study of UFOs and the technology they utilize continues by the US government, only now it appears to continue under the cloak of absolute secrecy. Perhaps, as we will look at in a moment, those advances in technology have more than mere human ingenuity at their core.
Check out the short videos below. The first looks at one of the recently released Pentagon UFO sightings, while the second looks at some of the conspiracies surrounding Skinwalker Ranch.
Alien At The Pentagon?
While the idea of top-secret, prolonged interaction between a shadow government operating out of the Pentagon is absurd to some, it isn’t the first time that such claims have been made. The strange tale of Valiant Thor tells of an apparent alien craft landing in a field in Alexandria, Virginia, in March 1957. A lone policeman witnessed the events purely by chance as he went about his routine patrols. A humanoid, very much human-looking, if not a little taller, emerged from craft and approached the policeman. He had, he claimed, been sent by the “High Council” to speak with President Eisenhower. His name was Valiant Thor.
The account was written about extensively by Frank Stranger in the book, Stranger At The Pentagon. Within these pages were several pictures claiming to show Valiant Thor. Whether it is of importance or not, no US official, serving or former, has stepped forward to discredit these photographs.
According to the accounts, Thor did meet with the President, as well as various other high-ranking US officials. He would remain at the Pentagon for three years as a “VIP”. He would be involved in numerous in-depth discussions with US officials during his stay. You can check out the short video below that looks at this claim in a little more detail, and you can read a little more about it here.
Of course, there are many who claim there are secret deals between aliens and top-secret shadow governments. The great-granddaughter of President Eisenhower, who some believe made “secret deals” with grey aliens in 1954 following offers of advanced technology for “access” to American citizens (you can read more about this here), would state that such deals came to fruition “in a world most of us don’t realize existed”. She would continue that the “Second World War was still being fought behind the scenes. It’s like there is this whole other reality going on that we don’t hear about. These timelines and the deeper history connected to secret societies, connected to these deeper ET agendas that have been around for thousands of years!”
Furthermore, according to Laura Eisenhower, not only did these deals result in greater technology, they would also result in secret space programs and unofficial missions. Of course, if there is any degree of truth to the claims, it would also result in the abduction of, and experimentation on, thousands of US citizens, as well as thousands more worldwide. Assuming for a moment these claims are true, we have to ask, how much clout and say in the decision making would Eisenhower really have had? It is likely a decision already made that he, as the President of the United States, had to put his name to. His great-granddaughter would state decades later that her great-grandfather “was instrumental in warning us about the military-industrial complex!”
The videos below features Laura Eisenhower speaking a little further about such notions of secret alien involvement in human affairs. Perhaps such technologies as “warp drives”, only now coming into the public arena for dissection, is the result of such secret deals that took place over half-a-century ago.
Sodom and Gomorrah, Mohenjo-Daro – Do The Ancient Texts Describe Nuclear Explosions And Weapons?
Nuclear power and the weapons that followed it, are developments of the twentieth century, right? But were they invented, or re-invented?
As preposterous as it may be to some, there are people who firmly believe that nuclear power was possessed in the distant past, and what’s more, they say, there is evidence still to this day, that this power was utilized and weaponized.
Forty skeletons were found "scattered" around the streets.
Ancient Civilizations Destroyed?
The ancient cities of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa were discovered in the 1920s in what is now modern-day Pakistan.
Their discovery essentially proved the truth, albeit in part, in ancient writings and texts that claimed the cities were once home to a great civilization right across the Indus Valley – a civilization so great as to rival those of ancient Egypt and even those of Mesopotamia – and one that had mysteriously vanished almost overnight.
Further discovery demonstrated that the cities boasted great planning and even “modern day” amenities. The houses were furnished with brick built baths and even toilets, while the sewer and drainage system were also sophisticated – with generous supplies of “public” drinking water.
However, as is seen in any modern day metropolis today, the clean streets and exceptional architecture ran alongside a seemingly darker and unsavory part of the city. In the uppermost levels, there were found basic “make-shift” housing that appeared to be set up around various industrial sites.
Ruins of Mohenjo-Daro
The ancient city showed sophisticated planning and amenities.
Perhaps most notably though, was the discovery of forty skeletons that were scattered around the streets – as if they had died instantly and without warning – all indications being they had suffered a violent and painful end.
British researcher and writer, David Davenport, spent more than a decade researching Mohenjo-Daro and it’s sudden demise, which resulted in the bookAtomic Destruction In 2000 BC– a book in which he claimed what was responsible was nothing less than a nuclear explosion!
Davenport essentially stated that according to the Mahabharata texts the cities were destroyed using a weapon called “Agneya” – the following is text that Davenport quoted from the ancient writing:
“White hot smoke that was a thousand times brighter than the sun rose in infinite brilliance and reduced the city to ashes. Water boiled…horses and war chariots were burned by the thousands… the corpses of the fallen were mutilated by the terrible heat so that they no longer looked like human beings…”
Do the ancient texts describe the use of nuclear weapons in the past?
Davenport stated there were indications of solids being fused at the site – something that would take a temperature of 1500 degrees Celsius to achieve before quickly cooling after, and all around where he claimed the epicenter of the blast took place there was further evidence of fusion and crystallization. This he said was proof of an explosion – a nuclear explosion.
According to Davenport “at least one of the skeletons” that were tested had extremely high levels of radiation – something that led him to compare the site to Nagasaki in Japan following the dropping of the atomic bomb at the end of the Second World War.
His theory was met with much interest and almost reserved “support” – perhaps most notably Professor Antonio Castellani, a space engineer in Rome who said, “it's possible that what happened at Mohenjo-Daro was not a natural phenomenon!”
If what Davenport claims is true, then it raises the question of how advanced some of the ancient civilizations actually were. If it had indeed been a weapon and not an accidental explosion that brought this civilization to a screeching halt, who created that weapon, and why? And where did the technology and the civilization that allegedly unleashed it disappear to?
It is not that Mahenjo-Daro is an isolated incident – at least in theory.
The Bible, to some, clearly describes a nuclear assault on the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and even tells why – the towns had turned into what was seen by “The Lord” as a pit of "sexual depravity", including the perceived sin in such times of homosexual relations, as well as bestiality. Whether you agree with this theory or not, you can do a little more readinghereabout alleged recent finds concerning the ancient cities.
Painting showing Lot and his daughters escaping the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Descriptions Of Nuclear Weapons In The Bible?
“Genesis 19”, tells of “two angels” who arrive at Sodom and are greeted by a man called Lot. Lot takes them to his house to offer them food and shelter for the night. However, as described in verse 4, the townsfolk had soon descended upon his house:
“(4)Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. (5) They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can know (have sex) with them.”
Lot spoke with the crowd and begged them to leave the men alone, even offering the crowd his daughters who had “never slept with a man. Let me bring them to you and you can do whatever you like with them” – to which the crowd demanded he get out of their way before trying to break into the house.
Verse 10 describes how the “angels” blinded the crowd with one device or another:
“(10) But the men inside (angels) reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door. (11) Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness so that they could not find the door.”
They then went on to inform Lot to gather his family and leave the city as “The Lord” was going to destroy it:
“(12) The two men said to Lot, “Do you have anyone else here—sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here, (13) because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the Lord against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it.”
Lot did as instructed and with the “angels” his family fled the city before dawn – they instructed Lot to run away from the cities and into the mountains so that he would not “be swept away” in what was coming. Lot asked the angels if he might be able to instead flee to a small town (Zoar) which might be spared. The angles agreed and as the “sun came up over the land” and with Lot now in Zoar the “Lord rained sulphur on Sodom and Gomorrah” as he “destroying all those living in the cities—and also the vegetation in the land.”
Is this the "pillar of salt" that Lot's wife was turned to?
Verse 26 also speaks of the death of Lot’s wife, who despite being told not to, “...looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.” What is interesting here is that if someone was to be caught up in a nuclear assault this is how they would essentially end up, while heading to the mountain would be what anyone hoping to survive the aftermath of a nuclear blast would be best off doing.
Verse 28 speaks of Abraham viewing the remains of the city
“(28)He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.”
Was the Bible describing a planned nuclear assault on the two cities? Could homosexual behavior and so-called other depraved sexual acts really be the reason for this, and if so why? Why was Lot spared and seemingly immune to the “behavior” of the rest of the town? Maybe it is worth noting that the following verses speak of Lot’s own daughters disguising themselves and getting their father drunk in order to become pregnant with his child to “preserve their bloodline!” And was the device the “angel” used to blind the crowd some kind of advanced technology?
If there is any truth at all to Davenport’s claims of Mohenjo-Daro, then you might think there would be some truth to the claims in the Bible of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Perhaps it is worth noting this response from Robert Oppenheimer, known as the “father of the atomic bomb.” He was known to study ancient Hindu and Vedic texts, and when asked, after the first nuclear bomb detonated if this was indeed “the first” nuclear explosion, responded, “Yes, in modern times.”
