Extraterrestrial Life: Ancient & New. Proof of it Would be Incredible

In the December 1960 / January 1961 issue of the NICAP UFO Investigator journal, a small article was published under the heading of Space-Life Report Could be Shock. It read as follows: “The discovery of intelligent space beings could have a severe effect on the public, according to a research report released by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The report warned that America should prepare to meet the psychological impact of such a revelation. The 190-page report was the result of a $96,000 one-year study conducted by the Brookings Institution for NASA’s long-range study committee. “Public realization that intelligent beings live on other planets could bring about profound changes, or even the collapse of our civilization, the research report stated. ‘Societies sure of their own place have disintegrated when confronted by a superior society,’ said the NASA report. ‘Others have survived even though changed. Clearly, the better we can come to understand the factors involved in responding to such crises the better prepared we may be.’
“Although the research group did not expect any immediate contact with other planet beings, it said that the discovery of intelligent space races ‘could nevertheless happen at any time.” NICAP – the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena, which was a public UFO research study group – continued: “Even though the UFO problem was not indicated as a reason for the study, it undoubtedly was an important factor. Fear of public reaction to an admission of UFO reality was cited as the main reason for secrecy in the early years of the AF [Air Force] investigation. “Radio communication probably would be the first proof of other intelligent life, says the NASA report. It adds: ‘Evidences of its existence might also be found in artifacts left on the moon or other planets.’”

NICAP further noted that the document gave weight to “…previous thinking by scholars who have suggested that the earth already may be under close scrutiny by advanced space races. In 1958, Prof. Harold D. Lasswell of the Yale Law School stated: ‘The implications of the UFOs may be that we are already viewed with suspicion by more advanced civilizations and that our attempts to gain a foothold elsewhere may be rebuffed as a threat to other systems of public order.’” NICAP concluded: “The NASA warning of a possible shock to the public, from the revelation of more advanced civilizations, support's NICAP’s previous arguments against AF [Air Force] secrecy about UFOs. All available information about UFOs should be given to the public now, so that we will be prepared for any eventuality.”
The document to which NICAP was referring was titled Proposed Studies on the Implications of Peaceful Space Activities for Human Affairs. It was a document written by an employee of the Brookings Institution named Donald N. Michael. The report was contracted by the Committee on Long Range Studies, which was an arm of NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The document was completed and provided to the House of Representatives in the 87th United States Congress on April 18, 1961. What is particularly, intriguing, though, is that a copy of this particular document – on extraterrestrial life – was made available to personnel at the Nevada Test and Training Range. We know this, as a photocopy of the NT&T copy is now in the public domain. This raises a very important question: if the personnel at Area 51 are only working on programs relative to high-tech weaponry and secret aircraft, why, in the early 1960s, did they have a seemingly pressing need to learn all about the latest theories and data on extraterrestrial activity? With that important question in mind, let us now take a closer look at the document at issue.
More than half a century after it was completed, the document is still noted for its intriguing and controversial content, much of which has potential impact on the UFO phenomenon. One of the most notable entries reads: “While face-to-face meetings with it will not occur within the next twenty years (unless its technology is more advanced than ours, qualifying it to visit earth), artifacts left at some point in time by these life forms might possibly be discovered through our space activities on the Moon, Mars, or Venus.” It has been suggested by UFO theorists that this “artifacts” statement might imply Brookings and NASA had already uncovered data on – and secured photographs of - the controversial “Face on Mars,” which is discussed in an earlier chapter. The report then makes what can only be interpreted as a thinly veiled threat, regarding what the future might bring, if the presence of intelligent, extraterrestrial life in our midst was confirmed:

“Anthropological files contain many examples of societies, sure of their place in the universe, which have disintegrated when they have had to associate with previously unfamiliar societies espousing different ideas and different life ways; others that survived such an experience usually did so by paying the price of changes in values and attitudes and behavior.” On this very issue, in 2004 Mac Tonnies told me: “If our own history is any example, technologically robust civilizations inevitably subsume less sophisticated cultures, not merely by violently dismantling them, but by introducing a virulent strain of apathy. The infamous Brookings report to NASA, recommending that the discovery of extraterrestrial artifacts be covered up for fear of paralyzing research and development enterprises, stands as perhaps the most explicit elucidation of this idea.” The Michaels paper continued: “Since intelligent life might be discovered at any time via the radio telescope research presently under way, and since the consequences of such a discovery are presently unpredictable because of our limited knowledge of behavior under even an approximation of such dramatic circumstances, two research areas can be recommended:
“Continuing studies to determine emotional and intellectual understanding and attitudes -- and successive alterations of them if any -- regarding the possibility and consequences of discovering intelligent extraterrestrial life. “Historical and empirical studies of the behavior of peoples and their leaders when confronted with dramatic and unfamiliar events or social pressures. Such studies might help to provide programs for meeting and adjusting to the implications of such a discovery. Questions one might wish to answer by such studies would include: How might such information, under what circumstances, be presented to or withheld from the public for what ends? What might be the role of the discovering scientists and other decision makers regarding release of the fact of discovery?” The questions were many. Granted they were theoretical, but they provoked raised eyebrows and concerned thoughts within NASA and the U.S. Government.
An individual’s reactions to such a radio contact, said Brookings, “…would in part depend on his cultural, religious, and social background, as well as on the actions of those he considered authorities and leaders, and their behavior, in turn, would in part depend on their cultural, social, and religious environment.” And, as the Brookings team also noted: “The discovery would certainly be front-page news everywhere; the degree of political or social repercussion would probably depend on leadership's interpretation of (1) its own role, (2) threats to that role, and (3) national and personal opportunities to take advantage of the disruption or reinforcement of the attitudes and values of others. Since leadership itself might have great need to gauge the direction and intensity of public attitudes, to strengthen its own morale and for decision making purposes, it would be most advantageous to have more to go on than personal opinions about the opinions of the public and other leadership groups.”
Brookings noted an important issue that the conformation of alien life might have on the Human Race, as a whole: “The knowledge that life existed in other parts of the universe might lead to a greater unity of men on earth, based on the ‘oneness’ of man or on the age-old assumption that any stranger is threatening. Much would depend on what, if anything, was communicated between man and the other beings.” One of the most controversial issues that occupied Brookings was that relative to the impact that the existence of alien life would have on the world of religion: “The positions of the major American religious denominations, the Christian sects, and the Eastern religions on the matter of extraterrestrial life need elucidation. Consider the following: 'The Fundamentalist (and anti-science) sects are growing apace around the world. For them, the discovery of other life - rather than any other space product - would be electrifying. Some scattered studies need to be made both in their home centers and churches and their missions, in relation to attitudes about space activities and extraterrestrial life.
“If plant life or some subhuman intelligence were found on Mars or Venus, for example, there is on the face of it no good reason to suppose these discoveries, after the original novelty had been exploited to the fullest and worn off, would result in substantial changes in perspectives or philosophy in large parts of the American public, at least any more than, let us say, did the discovery of the coelacanth or the panda.” The matter of extraterrestrial existence, and specifically its impact on religion, was still impacting on NASA in the 2000s. As evidence of this, in November 2009, NASA announced that: “This past week in Rome as part of the International Year of Astronomy, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences hosted a Study Week on Astrobiology. Their discussion ranges from what it would mean to the Church if alien life were found, to whether or not science needs religion.” This final sentence, from NASA’s November 2009 press release, is highly significant, since it extremely closely echoes the words and recommendations of the Brookings report of 1960. The Human Race stood a very good chance of having its collective ego bruised by a close encounter with aliens, Brookings advised NASA: “If super intelligence is discovered, the results become quite unpredictable. It is possible that if the intelligence of these creatures were sufficiently superior to ours, they would choose to have little if any contact with us. On the face of it, there is no reason to believe that we might learn a great deal from them, especially if their physiology and psychology were substantially different from ours.”

Ironically, Brookings noted, those most likely to be “devastated” by the discovery of extraterrestrial life might not be the general public, but the scientific community – the very people looking for the aliens. Brookings explained its stance on this matter thus: “It has been speculated that, of all groups, scientists and engineers might be the most devastated by the discovery of relatively superior creatures, since these professions are most clearly associated with the mastery of nature, rather than with the understanding and expression of man. Advanced understanding of nature might vitiate all our theories at the very least, if not also require a culture and perhaps a brain inaccessible to earth scientists. “It is perhaps interesting to note that when asked what the consequences of the discovery of superior life would be, an audience of Saturday Review readership chose, for the most part, not to answer the question at all, in spite of their detailed answers to many other speculative questions.
“A possible but not completely satisfactory means for making the possibility ‘real’ for many people would be to confront them with present speculations about the I.Q. of the porpoise and to encourage them to expand on the implications of this situation. “Such studies would include historical reactions to hoaxes, psychic manifestations, unidentified flying objects, etc. Hadley Cantril's study, Invasion from Mars (Princeton University Press, 1940), would provide a useful if limited guide in this area. Fruitful understanding might be gained from a comparative study of factors affecting the responses of primitive societies to exposure to technologically advanced societies. Some thrived, some endured, and some died.” It is, perhaps, this final sentence that humankind had – and still has – the most to worry about. If extraterrestrials – friendly or hostile – one day show themselves to us, en masse, there is a very good chance that, as the Brookings report noted all those decades ago, from a psychological perspective we might not survive the encounter, at least not intact. This is one of the reasons why Brookings made what turned out to be its most controversial statement of all. It was a statement that said NASA should think very carefully about not when it should reveal, to the public, the truth about confirmed alien visitation, but if it should do so.
When local police in Wyoming set up a camera to catch a possible mountain lion roaming the area, instead they were surprised to see that something else was caught. Here it seems an alien who disguises himself as human was caught walking past the hunting cam at night. But the digital infrared camera can see things the human eye cannot and it lets you see the true alien. Yes you heard me right, I do know that aliens walk, live and even work along side us. This is one of them. No human could detect infrared light emitted from this camera, however an alien eyes are superior to our and could in fact detect it easily. In the realm of UFOlogy, few incidents stir as much intrigue and skepticism as the Varginha UFO incident of Brazil. Often compared to the Roswell event, this case has been the topic of many debates, documentaries, and discussions over the years. This article aims to critically reassess the intriguing tales surrounding this incident, sifting through the multitude of witness accounts, conspiracy theories, and official explanations to provide a comprehensive picture of the event.
The Incident Unfolds
In January 1996, in the town of Varginha, located in southern Brazil, a series of unusual occurrences set the stage for what would later be known as the Brazilian Roswell. It began with the sighting of a UFO by a few local residents, followed by reports of strange, alien-like creatures being encountered in different parts of the town. The narrative of the incident was further fueled by the unfortunate death of a young military policeman, Marco Eli Chereze, who was allegedly involved in capturing one of these creatures.
The Witnesses
The narrative was primarily driven by the testimony of numerous witnesses. The first were three young girls who claimed to have encountered a strange creature, which they initially thought was a demon, near a vacant lot. This creature was described as being roughly humanoid, with oily, brown skin, red eyes, and a strong, unpleasant smell.

In subsequent days, other witnesses came forward, describing similar encounters or providing accounts of unusual military activity in the town. One of the key figures in these accounts was Eric Lopes, Marco Chereze’s partner, who was allegedly present during the capture of the creature and its transportation to the hospital. However, despite repeated attempts by UFO investigators to interview him, Lopes has consistently refused to discuss the incident.
The Skeptical Perspective
While the Varginha incident is often presented as a compelling case for the existence of UFOs and extraterrestrial beings, it is essential to consider the skeptical perspective. There is, to date, no physical evidence supporting the claims of alien encounters, and the entire narrative is based on witness testimonies, which have shown inconsistencies over the years.
One of the main counter-arguments presented against the alien theory is the possibility that the creature encountered by the girls was actually a local man, Luis Antonio de Paula, known as Mudinho, who suffered from physical and mental disabilities. Additionally, some skeptics suggest that the widespread attention given to the incident, including its coverage in international news, might have influenced the recollection of events by the witnesses, leading to unintentional embellishments or alterations in their stories.
The Official Explanation and Conspiracy Theories
As with any high-profile UFO incident, the Varginha event has been subject to an array of conspiracy theories. The Brazilian military released a detailed report countering the alien encounter claims, stating that the military activities in the area were part of a routine training exercise and that the creature was actually a dwarf couple visiting the hospital.
However, these explanations have been met with skepticism, especially given the timing and the alleged cover-up attempts. Speculations suggest that the Brazilian government, possibly in collaboration with the U.S., is concealing the truth about the incident, a sentiment echoed by numerous UFO investigators and enthusiasts.
The Unresolved Mystery
More than two decades later, the Varginha UFO incident remains an unresolved mystery. The refusal of key witnesses like Eric Lopes to speak publicly about the incident only adds to the intrigue and speculation surrounding the event. However, without concrete physical evidence, the debate on whether this was a genuine extraterrestrial encounter or a case of mistaken identity and mass hysteria continues to rage on.

Recent kwamen onderzoekers tot de conclusie dat het hoog tijd wordt dat we de planeet Uranus en zijn manen eens van dichtbij gaan bestuderen. Maar stel dat we op korte termijn daadwerkelijk een sonde op deze planeet afsturen, wat voor instrumenten moeten we deze dan meegeven? Om die vraag te kunnen beantwoorden, moeten we eigenlijk een beetje kunnen voorspellen wat we daar gaan aantreffen. En in het blad Journal of Geophysical Research doen wetenschappers wat dat betreft nu een interessante duit in het zakje. Ze stellen namelijk dat zeker vier van de grote manen die Uranus rijk is mogelijk over een ondergrondse oceaan beschikken. Het gaat om Ariel, Umbriel, Titania en Oberon. Deze manen hebben een diameter van 1.160 tot 1.580 kilometer.
Met dank aan Voyager 2 De onderzoekers baseren hun conclusie op een nieuwe analyse van data die ruimtesonde Voyager 2 decennia geleden, tijdens een scheervlucht langs Uranus, verzamelde. Daarnaast maakten ze ook gebruik van observaties die vanaf het aardoppervlak van Uranus zijn gemaakt én bogen ze zich over de bevindingen van ruimtesondes Galileo, Cassini, Dawn en New Horizons (die stuk voor stuk ondergrondse oceanen op andere werelden ontdekten). Op basis van al die informatie maakten ze computermodellen, om daarmee vervolgens na te gaan hoe poreus het oppervlak van Uranus’ grootste manen is.
De modellen onthullen dat het ijzige oppervlak van deze manen waarschijnlijk weinig poreus is en als het ware dienst doet als een isolatielaag die voorkomt dat de warmte uit het binnenste van de manen ontsnapt. Op die manier is het intern warm genoeg om een oceaan te herbergen. Bovendien vonden ze een mogelijke warmtebron in de rotsachtige mantels van de manen, die hete vloeistof afgeven, waardoor de oceanen nog meer warmte kunnen vasthouden. Het is aannemelijk dat grote manen als Titania en Oberon ondergrondse oceanen hebben die warm genoeg zijn voor buitenaards leven.

Miranda valt buiten de boot Miranda – de vijfde grootste maan van Uranus – valt helaas buiten de boot. Miranda is één van de meest bijzondere manen in ons zonnestelsel en ziet er een beetje uit als een misbaksel. Mogelijk is de maan tijdens een botsing met een ander hemellichaam uit elkaar gespat, waarna de brokstukken weer samen zijn gekomen en Miranda vormden. Opmerkelijk zijn ook de gigantische valleien op de maan: sommige zijn wel twaalf keer dieper dan de Grand Canyon. Deze maan heeft een diameter van 470 kilometer en is te klein om oceaan te hebben. Wel zijn er op het oppervlak van Miranda sporen te zien van geologische activiteit. Mogelijk heeft deze maan in het verleden wel water vastgehouden, maar is deze oceaan inmiddels bevroren.

Antivries in de oceanen Een andere belangrijke ontdekking is dat er waarschijnlijk chloriden – net als ammoniak – aanwezig zijn in de oceanen van de grootste manen van de ijzige reus. Ammoniak is een antivries en heeft een laag vriespunt. Ook de aanwezige zouten in het water zouden een antivries kunnen zijn, waardoor de interne oceanen op deze natuurlijke satellieten in stand blijven.
Naar de tekentafel Nu kunnen de wetenschappers instrumenten ontwerpen die in staat zijn om de ondergrondse oceanen in kaart te brengen. Nu het aannemelijk lijkt dat ammoniak en chloriden aanwezig zijn onder het oppervlak, is het verstandig om het golflengtebereik van de spectrometers te verbreden, zodat het gereflecteerde licht van deze verbindingen kan worden opgevangen. Laten we hopen dat een ruimtevaartorganisatie in de nabije toekomst een missie naar Uranus aankondigt en dat we dan eindelijk meer te weten komen over deze buitenaardse werelden.
'We're thinking about rivers on a different scale than we have before.'

Ancient Mars may have had its share of raging rivers.
There are plenty of signs that liquid water flowed on the Red Planet long ago. But most of that evidence points to lakes, oceans or relatively gentle streams, such as the ancient creeks uncovered by NASA's Curiosity rover in Mars' huge Gale Crater.
But Curiosity's younger cousin Perseverance, which is been exploring a different Mars crater called Jezero, has rolled up on a long-dead riverbed that looks completely different. This one features coarse grains and cobbles, bulky stuff that couldn't be displaced by a mere trickle.
"Those indicate a high-energy river that's truckin' and carrying a lot of debris," Libby Ives, a postdoctoral researcher at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Southern California, which operates Perseverance, said in a statement(opens in new tab) on Thursday (May 11). "The more powerful the flow of water, the more easily it's able to move larger pieces of material."

Perseverance gathered some of this newfound evidence at a spot the mission team calls Skrinkle Haven (apparently in a nod to a beach in England(opens in new tab)). The site features curving bands of layered rock, which were almost certainly formed by powerfully flowing water, NASA officials said.
But the nature of the river that sculpted this landscape remains a matter of some debate. It may have been a snaking river whose banks shifted over time, or a "braided" one marked by protruding sand bars, mission team members said.
In either scenario, the rock bands were likely much taller initially but were cut down to their present size by the sandblasting Martian wind.
"The wind has acted like a scalpel that has cut the tops off these deposits," Perseverance science team collaborator Michael Lamb, a river specialist based at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, said in the same statement.
"We do see deposits like this on Earth, but they're never as well exposed as they are here on Mars," Lamb added. "Earth is covered in vegetation that hides these layers."
Further potential evidence of fast-flowing ancient water comes from Pinestand, a hill that lies about 0.28 miles (0.45 kilometers) from Skrinkle Haven. Pinestand features sedimentary rock layers, some of which rise as high as 65 feet (20 meters).
"These layers are anomalously tall for rivers on Earth," Ives said. "But at the same time, the most common way to create these kinds of landforms would be a river."
The 28-mile-wide (45 km) Jezero hosted a big lake and a river delta long ago. Perseverance will continue exploring and characterizing this intriguing environment, which researchers think was capable of supporting Earth-like life long ago.
"What's exciting here is we've entered a new phase of Jezero's history. And it's the first time we're seeing environments like this on Mars," Perseverance Deputy Project Scientist Katie Stack Morgan of JPL said in the same statement. "We're thinking about rivers on a different scale than we have before."
Perseverance landed on Jezero's floor in February 2021, along with NASA's tiny Ingenuity helicopter. The rover is studying Jezero's geology, hunting for signs of past Mars life and collecting samples for future return to Earth.

For years, Daniel Bowman, a senior scientist at Sandia National Laboratories, has relied on a few simple supplies for his research: tape, painter’s plastic, and charcoal dust. He uses these everyday items to create huge, inexpensive balloons that can sail into thestratosphere using only the power of the Sun.
But trash they are not. The balloons carry important devices that listen in on Earth’s sounds — from earthquakes to the rhythmic motion of ocean waves crashing. Sensing major events and natural processes from the stratosphere gives Bowman and fellow researchers an important way to document what’s happening on our planet. Similar balloons might one day sail through other planets’ atmospheres, too.
At the Acoustical Society of America conference this week, Bowman and colleague Siddharth Krishnamoorthy, a research technologist at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, presented their findings from ongoing research into Earth’s stratospheric sounds. They also outlined how similar techniques could be used to explore Venus’ hellish landscape.
EARS IN THE STRATOSPHERE
The stratosphere offers a unique respite from the rest of Earth’s atmosphere. It’s too high up for passenger airplanes and too low for satellites — meaning that there’s less sky traffic. And it’s still close enough to the ground to pick up sound waves with the right equipment.
Balloons can carry up super-sensitive microbarometers to this calm space and detect low-frequency sound waves happening all over the planet. Called infrasound, these noises are just outside the range of what we’re able to hear.
12 days worth of stratospheric sound compressed into a few minutes from a balloon survey several years ago. The rushing background noise is made of ocean waves colliding, while smaller blips of sound were largely unidentified noises at the time.
Despite the fact that we can’t sense it, Earth is full of infrasound. These frequencies are emitted by many natural processes, such as storms, ocean waves, and seismic events, emitting vibrations that can be picked up from miles above where they're happening.
“There's this incredible soundscape in the sky,” Bowman says, and researchers have only just begun to tune into it.
While some balloon-bound sensing tests took place during the 1960s, formal scientific efforts to record infrasound in the atmosphere didn’t happen until the past few decades. In fact, researchers are still learning exactly what sounds they’re hearing in stratospheric recordings.
“There are a lot of sounds that we record and we don't know where they're coming from,” Bowman says. It’s likely that many of these unidentified noises are mundane, created by sources like airplane turbulence, meteors, or even large industrial facilities with giant, rumbly fans.
Matching each of these sounds with their sources is an ongoing puzzle. But piecing it together could create a new way for researchers to detect events from the sky alone — which could be especially helpful for exploring planets where the ground is hard to reach.
BALLOONS ON VENUS
In the past few years, Bowman and colleagues have identified many noisy events from Earth’s stratosphere, using data from the ground to verify what they heard. They’ve pinpointed human-made sources like explosions and city noise, and identified the first earthquake from the sky in 2019.

Knowing that the balloon-based detection method works on earthquakes means that researchers could one day pick up on seismic events from other planets, too. Mars is known to have quakes of its own — appropriately called Marsquakes — which the InSight mission was able to detect in its lifespan on the Red Planet from 2018 to 2022.
Venus, on the other hand, is suspected to have Venusquakes just like its rocky cousins, but none of the spacecraft to land on the planet were ever able to detect one directly. Blame it on Venus’ harsh environment, which has a thick, suffocating atmosphere and surface temperatures around 900 degrees Fahrenheit. Back in the 1970s and 80s, the Soviet Union sent several landers to the planet’s surface, with the longest-surviving one lasting just over two hours.
“They actually got cooked from the inside, if we're going to talk about morbid deaths of robots on Venus,” Krishnamoorthy tells Inverse. “The landers went in a pressure vessel that kept the heat from the outside from coming in, but it also kept the heat from the inside [from] going out.”
The Soviets also sent a pair of balloons into the Venusian atmosphere during the 1985 Vega missions, which survived for about two days — a comparatively impressive feat. Since then, no balloons have made it back to the planet, but Krishnamoorthy says that they would be a powerful tool for future exploration.

Not only would the planet’s harsh environment be easier to tolerate from above, but sound also travels better through Venus’ dense atmosphere. “The same event on Venus would produce a signal on the surface that is about 60 times stronger than the Earth,” Krishnamoorthy explains.
And even though the design and materials of a Venus-bound balloon would be a lot different than the ones used on Earth, they would carry similar equipment to detect the signals of seismic events that are analogous to ones on our home planet.
DECODING SIGNALS
Balloons could provide a wealth of knowledge beyond seismology, Krishnamoorthy says. Being in the atmosphere, they could also detect chemical compounds, probe the planet’s magnetic field, or map out its geology, as long as they’re carrying the right tools.
And balloons could be useful to study other elusive bodies in the Solar System, as well. One potential target is Saturn’s moon, Titan, due to its dense atmosphere.
For the time being, no future Venus missions are slated to carry balloons. But Krishnamoorthy and colleagues will keep building up the library of detectable sounds from Earth’s sky and work on prototype balloons to prepare for future opportunities.
“Anything that flies on a mission honestly has … usually, like a 20-year journey behind it,” he says. “So that's basically where we are. We're just trying to get into a place where, when the opportunity comes, we're ready to do that.”
Government denial and cover up but civilians witnessed the Varginha UFO Crash
The Varginha UFO incident involves a series of events in 1996 when residents of Varginha, Brazil claimed seeing one or more strange creatures and at least one unidentified flying object (UFO).
The North American Air Defense Command, known as NORAD, was established in 1958. It was to provide early warning and defense against Soviet bombers and missile launches.
But it wasn't long before NORAD would be monitoring skies around the entire planet.
Early in the morning, on January 13th, 1996, NORAD contacted Brazilian Air Defense to report an object entering the Earth's atmosphere about 200 miles Northeast of Sao Paolo.
When asked what type of object, NORAD said it was "unidentified". A few minutes later, it crashed somewhere near the town of Varginha.
The Brazilian Army and Air Force quickly scrambled to get to the crash site before any civilians did. But they were too late. The craft was seen and the beings driving the craft we're gone, though one or more aliens are said to have been captured by Brazilian authorities.
Over the next few days, a series of events would unfold that would change the lives of the people in Varginha forever.

Mysterious Lights Over La Plata: A UFO Phenomenon?
On the eve of May 9th, 2023, the usually calm and serene night sky over La Plata, Argentina, was interrupted by a baffling spectacle. Thousands of residents from this bustling city witnessed an extraordinary occurrence that has set tongues wagging and speculation flying. Two bright, flame-like lights appeared in the night sky, stationary and seemingly unaffected by the overcast weather, providing a visual spectacle that was nothing short of surreal.
An Unforgettable Night
Shortly after 10 pm, the peace of the night was punctuated by a flurry of activity. As if drawn by an unseen force, people congregated in the open spaces of La Plata, their eyes fixated on the western area of the city. Walter Romero, a member of the FAO La Plata, was among the first to bring attention to this peculiar sight. Friends of his quickly shared photographs of the event, depicting the strange luminous phenomena in the vicinity of Olmos.
Reports flooded in from various parts of southern Greater Buenos Aires, each describing the same sight: Two large, fiery tongues of light, standing still against the night sky. In spite of the almost overcast conditions, the lights were clearly visible, adding an element of ethereal beauty to the unusual spectacle.
In an even more puzzling twist, a similar phenomenon was reported in various parts of Mexico on the same night. This synchronicity further fuelled the mystery, leading to a wide range of theories. From a possible supernova explosion to the re-entry of space debris, the luminous gassing of a launch, and yes, even the possibility of UFOs, all hypotheses were entertained.
Could this be evidence of extraterrestrial life, or merely a strange atmospheric event? While some initially thought these might be “torches” from the YPF refinery reflecting against the overcast skies — a known occurrence — this theory was soon dismissed.
The Search for Answers
As we wait for the appropriate explanations, the night of May 9th, 2023, will certainly be etched in the collective memory of La Plata’s residents. Teams of experts are currently investigating this event, looking for clues in the shared photographs and witness accounts. While there are many theories, they are committed to finding a scientific and rational explanation for this event.
However, until an explanation is found, the incident continues to captivate the imagination of the residents of La Plata and indeed the world at large. The two bright lights that painted the night sky of La Plata have certainly sparked curiosity and a sense of wonder, reminding us of the vast, unexplored expanse of our universe, and the mysteries it continues to hold.
No matter the ultimate explanation, this event underscores the fascinating unpredictability of the cosmos. While we may not yet know what those lights were, the image of them hanging in the night sky, burning bright against the darkness, is a sight that will not soon be forgotten.
In the 1940s, the CIA first became involved in UFOs. Since then, a number of former US military personnel and CIA officers have advanced UFOlogy by making stunning remarks. Former CIA and US military officials including R. James Woolsey, John Brennan, Jim Semivan, Lue Elizondo, and others have described how the existence of reality all around us that we are unable to perceive could be a major aspect of the UFO phenomenon.
Since 2021, John Ramirez, who spent 25 years in the CIA, has been providing truthful insights into the UAPs that he learned in his career. He is a highly intelligent individual who has an immense amount of knowledge and experience regarding the U.S. intelligence apparatus and the UAP subject. He has made an impressive social media presence after he revealed many UAP-related mysteries that had never been discussed in public by any government official.
CIA retired John Ramirez, who specialized in ballistic missile defense systems, worked for the CIA from 1984 to 2009, holding positions in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Directorate of Science and Technology, and the Directorate of Intelligence. He attained GS-15 grade, which indicates that he worked for the agency in a relatively senior capacity.
His appearance on the highly acclaimed Witness Citizen podcast on October 17, 2021 created a huge burst in the UFO community. Later, Ramirez made an appearance on Project Unity, where he delivered a series of slides to assist researchers in navigating the FOIA process. Ramirez was particularly helpful in identifying the appropriate agencies to contact when requesting particular types of information.
The slides, which are available online, also include historical information about UFOs and current statements made by prominent former U.S. intelligence officials, including John Ratcliffe, a former director of national intelligence. He stated a schematic on how to investigate a UFO in the CIA style:
Establish a group to investigate and evaluate sightings; Determine the objectives of your investigation; Consult with experts; Create a reporting system to organize incoming cases; Eliminate false positives; Develop a methodology to identify common aircraft and other aerial phenomena often mistaken for UFOs; Examine witness documentation; Conduct controlled experiments; Gather and test physical and forensics evidence and Discourage false reporting.
Ramirez made assumptions regarding the current UFO disclosure procedure, and it appears that his opinions may have been influenced by members of the intelligence community, either current or former, or perhaps by individuals connected to the Department of Defense. During his interview with Project Unity, Ramirez claimed that the US government does not currently discuss the UFO craft’s occupants. This is a significant comment from Ramirez, who has asserted his opinion that UFOs may indeed represent a form of non-human intelligence.

Ramirez is not the first CIA agent to make the assertion that UFOs might be non-human intelligence. John Brennan, a former CIA director, suggested that UFOs might be “a different form of life.” Brennan said: “You try to ensure that you have as much data as possible in terms of visuals and also different types of maybe technical collection of sensors that you have at the time. Also, I believe, it’s important to reach out into other environments and find out, were there any type of weather phenomena at that time that might have, in fact, created the appearance of the phenomenon that you’re looking at? Were there some things that were happening on the ground, or other types of phenomena that could help explain what seems to be quite a mystery as far as what is there? You really have to approach it with an open mind, but get as much data as possible and get as much expertise as possible brought to bear.”
Ramirez made an intriguing statement in response to the rumor that the US government is reluctant to discuss the potential UFO occupants. The U.S. Air Force may be partially to blame for this current stance, according to Ramirez. However, not for obvious reasons. He commented:
“The air force and their exploitation of that type of technology made a mess of things, as when people see the triangular craft, and they’re not flying in space but in our atmosphere, it points to the fact that we know what the triangles are and we want people to think they’re seeing UFOs because then people won’t know exactly what they’re seeing.”
Some speculated that Ramirez suggests that the USAF may be responsible for sightings of triangular aircraft, which some have dubbed the TR3B. On the Joe Rogan Experience, Tom Delonge implied that the United States government owned such vessels, but also said that some of them belonged to other intelligence. Delonge claimed that triangle-shaped craft, assuming they contain tail fins, symbolize human technology.
According to a member of the US House of Representatives Tim Burchett, it may all have started after the government recovered crashed alien vehicles. During an interview for On Balance With Leland Vittert, Burchett was asked about the Navy’s possession of more videos of UFOs that it is not willing to release to the public for reasons of National Security.
If anti-gravitic crafts exist, then potentially, such technology will be disclosed throughout the disclosure process. Former senator Harry Reid has already asserted that Lockheed Martin may have UFO materials, thus perhaps technology does exist. Ross Coulthart, an investigative journalist, in his tweet shared a link to a YouTube video (which is now private), stating John Ramirez tells IUFOC the agency’s weird desk investigations into UAP never stopped from the 1940s. “These are ongoing programs from the very beginning. They are still there.” It’s “more than” just the Pentagon’s AAWSAP-AATIP. Check the below Twitter thread to understand the context Coulthart is trying to explain.
“There for them to ask me questions. But it was very clear to me that AATIP was not the first of its kind effort. There was an organized effort back in the 80s to do exactly this as well. Now how far they got, I don’t know because what was told to me, verbatim,” Elizondo said.
Ramirez also experienced what might be considered alien abduction-type experiences, including being placed on an examination table in a circular craft. Interestingly, a number of his counterparts in the CIA and NSA also had UFO experiences, he revealed. In his job related to missile defense, he became aware of times when Russian radar would detect unusual craft, and in one instance, he said they tried to lure a UAP into landing.
Ramirez noted that CIA historian Gerald Haines wrote about the agency’s study of UFOs from 1947 through the 1990s, for a division that was initially called the Office of Scientific Intelligence. What was particularly intriguing to Ramirez is that the division had life sciences and medical people on staff, indicating possible interest in alien bodies.
He also described how an Air Force pilot on the plane that flew near Kamchatka to monitor Russian tests observed a massive “milky white wall” of light flying toward him at 6,200 mph, though the Air Force assumed it was some kind of countermeasure by the Russians. Regarding the military sightings of “trans-medium” UAP like the Tic Tacs, Ramirez said he does not believe that Russia or any other foreign country has the capabilities to produce this kind of antigravity technology.
Elizondo made these points in several interviews, but in this one, he was asked to elaborate on his comments about how our senses are reductive and limit our reality, and how this might be relevant to the phenomenon.
In his interview with Project Unity, Ramirez opined that Humans are hybrids. According to him, Elizondo is unable to use the word “hybridization,” but the Pentagon employees are counting on him to do so eventually. Elizondo discussed the possibility that non-human intelligence have been in contact with humans for a very long time on the Theories of Everything podcast. This would imply that we have all forgotten about our own past, which would hide the possibility that we are hybrids of humans and extraterrestrials.
Something is coming in 2027
On Podcast UFO with Martin Wills, Ramirez claimed that government is aware of an impending event in 2027 which will reveal something quite significant so people are being prepared. He has been stating that there is a presence on Earth (which he refers demonic) who are just projecting their own belief systems to make us disbelieve in what we believe. Wills asked Ramirez what would happen if there was mass Landing? would we just simply prepare for a conflict or would we actually initiate something? (Source)

“I think the dialogue we have now in this country, even with the recent legislation that passed through the legislature and is on its way up to the president’s desk, is preparing the U.S population, and by extension the world population, for the reality that there is a presence here that we need to explain. If they show up and we continue to do what we did before in previous decades, there will be mass panic. However, if we understand that these are real and we have five years from 2022, or maybe now four years, if they come in 2027, for the US government to prepare the people about what is up there.
In many ways, I think the word got out within the government that they’re showing up in 2027, and we better be prepared. If not, there’s going to be a lot of explaining to do. So, I think that dialogue has happened within certain areas inside the government, that we need to prepare.
That’s why in 2017, that set a clock of 10 years, and why Lou Elizondo earlier in this year said, “Just find a hobby for five years, and it’ll all be out in five years,” and he said that this year, so that was 2027. I’ve heard 2027 in an official capacity, and I can’t reveal, so I would say that people in the government are aware of something happening, and there’s limited time, a few more years to prepare the people. That’s what’s wrapping up this acceleration from the previous seven decades of not even acknowledging it to now acknowledging it at a faster and faster pace.”
A bizarre 'ultraluminous X-ray source' shines millions of times brighter than the sun, breaking a physical law called the Eddington limit, a new study finds.

Something in outer space is breaking the law — the laws of physics, that is.
Astronomers call these lawbreakers ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs), and they exude about 10 million times more energy than the sun. This amount of energy breaks a physical law known as the Eddington limit, which determines how bright something of a given size can be. If something breaks the Eddington limit, scientists expect it to blow itself up into pieces. However, ULXs "regularly exceed this limit by 100 to 500 times, leaving scientists puzzled," according to a NASA statement(opens in new tab).
New observations published in The Astrophysical Journal(opens in new tab) from NASA's Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR), which sees the universe in high-energy X-rays, confirmed that one particular ULX, called M82 X-2, is definitely too bright. Prior theories suggested that the extreme brightness could be some sort of optical illusion, but this new work shows that's not the case — this ULX is actually defying the Eddington limit somehow.
Astronomers used to believe ULXs could be black holes, but M82 X-2 is an object known as a neutron star. Neutron stars are the leftover, dead cores of stars like the sun. A neutron star is so dense that the gravity on its surface is about 100 trillion times stronger than that of Earth. This intense gravity means that any material pulled onto the dead star's surface will have an explosive effect.
"A marshmallow dropped on the surface of a neutron star would hit it with the energy of a thousand hydrogen bombs," according to NASA(opens in new tab).
The new study found that M82 X-2 consumes around 1.5 Earths' worth of material each year, siphoning it off of a neighboring star. When this amount of matter hits the neutron star's surface, it's enough to produce the off-the-charts brightness the astronomers observed.
The research team thinks this is evidence that something must be going on with M82 X-2 that lets it bend the rules and break the Eddington limit. Their current idea is that the intense magnetic field of the neutron star changes the shape of its atoms, allowing the star to stick together even as it gets brighter and brighter.
"These observations let us see the effects of these incredibly strong magnetic fields that we could never reproduce on Earth with current technology," lead study author Matteo Bachetti(opens in new tab), an astrophysicist at the Cagliari Astronomical Observatory in Italy, said in the statement. "This is the beauty of astronomy … we cannot really set up experiments to get quick answers; we have to wait for the universe to show us its secrets."

Meanwhile, UFO enthusiasts are waiting for the Pentagon to release a 23-minute video that will reportedly leave viewers “rattled.” Luis Elizondo claimed that it shows UFOs moving in a strange pattern.
It is more than 4 years since the New York Times article revealed the existence of the secret program (AATI) funded by the United States Army to investigate UFOs. Luis Elizondo ran the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATI) from 2007 to 2012. Since then, he has spoken about various incidents that happened to the US pilots and possibilities of alien existence.
Elizondo, who resigned from the Pentagon in 2017, has made several bold statements since then. His claims literally change the US government’s perspective on viewing UFOs. Moreover, he refused to talk more as he is afraid of being arrested.
In 2021, he stated to have seen the UFO footage, describing it as showing unidentified floating objects for 23 minutes. He made this revelation while talking to the YouTube channels Fade to Black and Witness Citizen UAP. During the talk, Elizondo revealed that the UFO video was extremely compelling.
According to Elizondo, the video is said to show multiple UFOs which are moving in ways and strange “patterns” that humans do not conventionally understand – with data recorded using US military systems.

He also mentioned this video in his interview with GQ. He stated: “It was the overwhelming weight of evidence and data. I was talking to pilots routinely. There’s videos out there [in government, that the public haven’t seen] – there’s one that’s 23 minutes long. There’s another one where this thing is 50 feet away from the cockpit. I mean, it ain’t ours. We know that. Sometimes you just couldn’t believe it – you’d have seven or eight incidents in a single day. I’d get these emails from an admiral or a ship’s captain saying, ‘Lue, what do you want me to do? I can’t keep people below deck forever. These things are swarming my ship, they’re all over the place.’ That’s tough. I kept promising the cavalry was coming and I’d have answers for them and the cavalry never came. Senior leadership didn’t want to deal with it.”
While discussing the 23-minute UFO video, Elizondo mentioned that it is a very compelling footage. “I did not say what it was. I sent it out to some highly trained experts in the ISR (Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) community. And when they came back to me, the title of the email was quote unquote ‘that UFO video’.”
He added: “It is definitive and its perplexing, every time you think you are like ‘thats what I am looking at’ – bang, it changes.”
When quizzed by host Jimmy Church on the way the object moved, its speed and if it was “beyond our capabilities,” Elizondo said it was enough to make officials “raise our eyebrows and say woah.”

Elizondo: You know, the problem is that this battle isn’t over. We won a major battle with the report coming out of the UAP report, it was historic like you said, in the very first sentence of the very first paragraph. It says this is a preliminary report which means there are other reports, you know, congratulations, you won, you got it, right? And then it said that there were 144 incidents and only one they were able to identify. By the way, that was only in the last year and a half, it was from November 2019 and forward. By the way, it only involved the navy, right, so yeah, so people say, well there was one from the Nimitz, okay.
Sean: That equipment sucks or…

Elizondo clarifies that his job was never intended to study UFOs. It was to hunt terrorists and spies – and then use those same skills to hunt UFOs. “It’s the same thing,” he said. The images of Mars were released by the China National Space Administration (CNSA) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) at an event marking China's national space day, held April 24 in the city of Hefei, in eastern China's Anhui Province.
The products from Tianwen 1 include an orthographic projection of Mars' eastern and western hemispheres and other types of sphere-to-flat surface projections. The images have a spatial resolution of 249 feet (76 meters) per pixel.
The images were produced using data collected by Tianwen 1's medium-resolution camera over an eight-month period from November 2021 to July 2022, according(opens in new tab) to the China National Space Administration (CNSA). During this time, the spacecraft completed 284 orbits and captured 14,757 images of the surface.
"This full-color image of Mars not only provides a better-quality base map for our country's follow-up Mars exploration projects and scientific research, but also for our international colleagues' Mars exploration projects and scientific research," Zhang Rongqiao, chief designer of China's Mars exploration program, told Chinese broadcaster CCTV.
"I believe this is an important contribution Tianwen 1 made for deep space exploration, for all humankind,” Zhang said.
China's next Mars mission will be an audacious and complex sample return mission, expected to launch around 2030. The data from Tianwen 1 will help inform landing site selection for the mission.
Zhang also provided an update on the fate of the Tianwen 1 mission rover, Zhurong, revealing that the team believes the robot has experienced a greater than expected accumulation of dust on its solar panels and possibly may never be able to reactivate itself.
Additionally, 22 geographical features near the Zhurong landing site on Mars have been named after historic Chinese villages and formalized by the International Astronomical Union.
NASA joined the UFO investigation in 2022, the year which is said to be the “Year of UFOs,” as the UFO hearings have established a significantly new path to look into the “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” (UAP).

UFO cover-up by Timothy Good
In 1987, British UFO researcher Timothy Good wrote a book entitled “Above Top Secret: The Worldwide U.F.O. Cover-Up,” in which he stated that Neil Armstrong saw “other” spacecraft. It has been the most bizarre claim ever made. Is there any truth in Mr. Good’s book?
Timothy Good was once called “Britain’s leading UFO researcher” by British weekly newspaper Observer. After presenting his book, he was involved in the initial publication of the purported Majestic 12 documents. Later, according to skeptic Phil Klass, Good questioned the authenticity of at least some of the documents. In 2007, the CIA cited Above Top Secret as one of the sources contributing to “the idea that CIA has secretly concealed its research into UFOs”. Besides, in May 2019, Tom DeLonge of Blink-182 credited Good’s book with “opening his eyes” into UFOs, leading to DeLonge’s development of To The Stars.
Fortunately, the myth of 70 years that UFOs do not exist has ended. Mr. Good clarified in his book “Above Top Secret” that UFOs do exist and that the governments of the world have been hiding evidence of this fact. His study is worth examining the facsimile copies of confidential and secret documents from the U.S., Canada, and Europe, as well as the controversial MJ-12 documents.
Did Neil Armstrong find aliens on the moon?
According to Mr. Good, a former female MI6 agent told him that Neil Armstrong suggested to her that there were “other” spacecraft on the Moon when Apollo 11 landed in 1969. In his book “Above Top Secret,” Good wrote that there are certain people (whose identities are still questionable) who claimed that Armstrong did in fact encounter UFOs on the Moon.
Otto Binder, Maurice Chatelain, and Dr. Vladimir Azhazha are some names Mr. Good mentioned in his book who had worked for NASA during Apollo 11. According to Mr. Good, they all have claimed that some radio hams received the message from NASA in which Armstrong said that he had seen other spacecraft.
Binder’s statement in Mr. Good’s book: “These “Babies” are huge, Sir! Enormous! OH MY GOD! You wouldn’t believe it! I’m telling you there are other spacecraft out there, Lined up on the far side of the crater edge! They’re on the Moon watching us!”
Unfortunately, there is no information about Binder in NASA archives, but there is a great article [click here] that discusses what it took to overhear the Apollo mission directly, including a contemporary article about it.
“Baysinger’s wife and daughter watched the Apollo 11 landing on TV while Baysinger and Rutherford listened via Baysinger’s equipment. The signal on the home-built equipment came through approximately 5-10 seconds earlier than the signal on TV. Baysinger figures NASA or the TV network [I assume it was probably CBS] put in a delay in case they needed to edit out anything embarrassing.
The signal the lunar eavesdropping equipment picked up was noisy, but Baysinger says you could hear what was going on. Baysinger made tapes of the transmissions, which he still has. In September 2009 he transferred salvageable sections of the tapes to MP3 format for this project. You can hear them for yourself via the links below.
I asked Baysinger whether he found anything that NASA edited out – comments about things going wrong, the astronauts being loose with their language, or exclamations about meeting aliens! He said no – absolutely everything was transmitted to the public on TV. In fact, he said, “that was kind of disappointing”. Part of the idea of this project was to hear the unedited “real story”, and it turned out there was nothing edited out. Indeed, Rutherford’s story makes no mention of hearing anything unusual.”
In July of 1969 a Louisvillian by the name of Larry Baysinger accomplished an amazing feat. He independently detected signals from the Apollo 11 astronauts on the lunar surface. Fortunately, his accomplishments were recorded and promptly published in the Louisville Courier-Journal, by another Louisvillian by the name of Glenn Rutherford, in an article entitled “Lunar Eavesdropping: Louisvillians hear moon walk talk on homemade equipment”. Is there any Maurice Chatelain, former chief of NASA Communications Systems who also confirmed that Apollo 11’s radio transmissions were interrupted on several occasions in order to hide the news from the public?
Unfortunately, again Chatelain’s identification cannot be confirmed. Interestingly, instead of “NASA Communications Systems,” Apollo did have the position of “Chief of Communications and Frequency Management,” held by Paul A. Price. However, there are counter-claims that Maurice Chatelain worked for a NASA sub-contractor and had been fired before Apollo 11 happened.
Did Dr. Vladimir Azhazha, a physicist and Professor of Mathematics at Moscow University also confirm that the message was sent to NASA but was censored? Again, there is no public information about this person. It is difficult to say if he ever existed or his identity is confidential.
It is worth noting that the original higher-quality video from Apollo 11’s time on the moon has been lost. What’s available now was produced by pointing an NTSC-based camera at a monitor displaying the original SSTV signal. However, the lack of original video is hardly the “most mission tapes” that was originally claimed, and the original audio from the moon landing is still available.
Apart from Armstrong, the second man on the Moon, Buzz Aldrin might add some light to the alleged Apollo 11 UFO encounter on Moon. Documentary filmmaker James Fox stated on a podcast that he had met with Fay Ann Aldrin, a sister of the second man on the Moon, Buzz Aldrin. According to Ann, Buzz Aldrin said that “something followed them to the Moon.”
Fox claimed that Aldrin was ready to tell his story, before pulling out of an interview at the last moment out of fear of being labeled a “UFO nut”. Although he did not tell his story to James Fox, Aldrin spoke publicly to the Science Channel, asserting that objects were following Apollo 11, to which NASA responded by issuing a statement, claiming Aldrin was taken out of context and that objects seen by the crew were “panels from the separation of the spacecraft from the upper stage.”
Aldrin has previously asserted that there is a monolith on Mars’ moon, Phobos. He said: “We should visit the moon of Mars, there’s a monolith there, a very unusual structure on this little potato-shaped object that revolves around Mars once every seven hours. When people find out about that they are going to say, “Who put that there? Who put that there?” Well, the universe put it there, or if you choose, God put it there.”
Buzz’s participation in the Phobos’ monolith mystery encouraged UFO hunters and other researchers to search for the sign of alien life on Mars. NASA has been exploring the universe for decades and plausibly encountered UAP on many occasions, otherwise, they would never switch off live video when strange objects enter the screen.
The Inca were an illustrious ancient civilization, whose sprawling empire stretched from Ecuador to the north, to central Chile in the south. Many of the remnants of their incredible civilization are found today in Peru, both along its coasts, and in its rugged highlands. The Inca were enigmatic in many ways - possessing incredible architectural skills that often defy all sense of logic. They were true ancient engineers - and many of their secrets are forever lost to time. Here are 10 of their most famous engineering marvels.
1. The Lone Jewel on the Mountaintop, Machu Picchu
Perhaps the most famous of all Inca ruins is the magnificent Machu Picchu , the self-sufficient citadel and royal residence. Today, it is considered as the most recognizable symbol of the Inca, and for years it was called their “Lost City”. The site is situated on a 2,430-meter (7,970 ft) mountain ridge, in inhospitable terrain where one would never imagine a settlement to stand. And yet, the ingenious Incas managed to create a thriving community so high up in the mountains.

Machu Picchu is located above the Sacred Valley, 80 kilometers (50 mi) northwest of Cusco, with the important Urubamba River flowing past it. The important citadel was likely built as a royal estate for Emperor Pachacuti, also called Pachacutec (1438–1472), sometime around 1450 AD. However, it was abandoned just a century later, as the Spanish Conquistadors ravaged the Inca Empire .
The entire citadel of Machu Picchu is an engineering marvel in itself - a pitch-perfect commune that was created on top of a steep mountain point. And even so, it had all the comforts of life - storage buildings, housing, incredible agricultural terraces, as well as a stunning Temple of the Sun. For centuries all of these structures were hidden beneath dense foliage, until their rediscovery in 1912. Today, it remains an incredible window into the ingenuity of the ancient Incas.
2. The Impregnable Citadel of Sacsayhuamán
The vastness of the Inca empire had to be defended from any would-be attackers. The mighty citadel of Sacsayhuamán is a mind-boggling archaeological site located on a hill overlooking the city of Cusco, Peru. The site is believed to have been built by the Inca civilization during the 15th century, during the reign of Sapa Inca Pachacuti, and served as a military fortress and religious center.
The thing that Sacsayhuamán is most noted for are its massive stone walls, which feature impressive stonework and some truly awe-inspiring engineering feats. The impregnable citadel walls were constructed using massive stone blocks that weigh up to 200 tons, and were fitted together so tightly that it is said a piece of paper cannot fit between them. How did the Incas achieve such an incomprehensible architectural feat? Many theories exist, but none can say for certain how the process looked like. The site also features a number of other structures, including temples, palaces, and fountains, all of which captivate with their grandeur.
Today, Sacsayhuamán is a popular tourist destination and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is an incredible feat of human skill, and one of the most renowned Inca sites.
3. Qhapaq Nan, The Great Inca Road
In order to control such a large empire and to make everything function as it should, the Inca had to create a reliable road network. It wasn’t an easy task, but they did it, nevertheless. The result is Qhapaq Nan , also known as the Great Inca Road - a vast network of roads and footpaths that spanned more than 20,000 miles (more than 32,000 km) throughout the Andes Mountains of South America. The road system served as a vital communication and transportation network for the Inca civilization and connected many of their major cities and settlements.
The Qhapaq Nan was built over several centuries, beginning around the 15th century AD, and was constructed primarily using stone and gravel. The road system features numerous impressive feats of engineering, including suspension bridges, tunnels, and switchbacks. The roads were also lined with waystations and storage depots, which provided food, water, and shelter for travelers. The Great Inca Road connected the coastal and the mountainous parts of the empire, making traveling easy and less dangerous.
Today, many sections of the Qhapaq Nan are still in use, centuries later - it was that well-made. And it only serves as proof of incredible Inca skill.
4. Ollantaytambo and its Impregnable Walls The Inca city of Ollantaytambo is an archaeological site located in the Sacred Valley of Peru , approximately 72 kilometers (45 miles) northwest of the city of Cusco. It is believed to have been built by the Inca civilization during the 15th century AD and served as a military, religious, and agricultural center.
Ollantaytambo is renowned for its truly impressive fortress, which features massive stone terraces and walls that rise up to 60 feet high (18 m). And once again, science was baffled by the skill and mastery with which these stone walls were built. Some of the pieces are incredibly heavy, but still placed with absolute precision and a tight fit. The site was strategically placed as to defend against attacks from hostile neighboring tribes, and played an important role in the Inca resistance against Spanish conquistadors. Its position and impregnable walls made it an easily defendable site.
In addition to the fortress, Ollantaytambo features a number of temples, palaces, and other structures, all of which showcase the remarkable engineering and architectural skills of the Inca civilization. The site also features a sophisticated system of canals and aqueducts, which were used for irrigation and water management. In its heyday, Ollantaytambo was a sprawling Inca city that had all the comforts of life, and was also well protected. It is a bustling city today as well, and many original Inca structures, houses, and doorways are still in daily use.
Ollantaytambo is a very popular tourist destination and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. When traveling to the area, you cannot miss visiting it.
5. The Stunning Terraces of Moray
One of the foremost accomplishments for which the Inca were praised was their mastery of agriculture in an otherwise inhospitable and rugged terrain. With their unique system of terraces and irrigation, they became the true masters of growing crops. And the Inca city of Moray is an ideal example of this. It is an archaeological site located in the famed Sacred Valley of Peru, approximately 50 kilometers (31 mi) northwest of the city of Cusco. It consists of several terraced circular depressions in the ground, which were used by the Incas for agricultural experimentation and research.
The circular depressions at Moray range in depth from approximately 30 to 150 feet (10 to 45 m) and are arranged in a series of concentric rings. The terraces were likely used to simulate different microclimates, which allowed the Incas to experiment with different crop varieties and growing conditions. The temperature difference between the top and the bottom levels of these terraces can be as much as 5 °C (9 °F), allowing for different growing conditions. Furthermore, the terraces are connected by a complex system of channels and canals, which allowed for precise control of water flow and irrigation.
Moray is believed to have been built during the 15th century AD by the Inca civilization and served as an important agricultural research center. The site is considered a remarkable example of Incan engineering and agricultural innovation and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Did you know that the Incas also mastered hydraulic engineering ? Their majestic city of Tipon is a remarkable example of this. This archaeological site is located in the Cusco region of Peru, approximately 15 kilometers (10 mi) southeast of the city of Cusco. It is situated on a hillside at an altitude of about 3,400 meters (11,154.86 ft) above sea level and covers an area of approximately 6.5 hectares. Tipon was built by the Inca civilization around the 15th century AD and likely served as a royal estate and an agricultural center. The site contains a sophisticated system of terraces, canals, and aqueducts, which were designed to irrigate the crops and gardens that grew on the terraced hillsides. The engineering prowess of the Incas is evident in the precision of the stonework and the complexity of the hydraulic system. The terraces are so well built that they remain incredibly well preserved today.
One of the most impressive features of Tipon is the extensive system of water channels and fountains, which were used for both irrigation and aesthetic purposes. The channels are made of finely cut stone and are carefully aligned to maximize water flow. The fountains are adorned with intricate carvings and were likely used for ceremonial purposes as well.
7. Raqch’i Venerated Viracocha
Religion played a great role in the daily lives of the Incas. Their once-majestic city of Raqch'i is located in the southern highlands of Peru, and is believed to have been built by the Inca civilization during the 15th century AD and served as an important administrative and religious center.

Raqch'i is renowned for its massive temple complex, which features a rectangular courtyard surrounded by a series of impressive, titanic stone walls. The temple is truly enormous, and measures 92 meters (302 ft) by 25.5 meters (84 ft). It is dedicated to Viracocha, the great creator God of the Inca, and their most important deity. The temple complex also includes a number of smaller buildings and structures, as well as a sophisticated system of irrigation canals and terraces.
The site is also notable for its extensive agricultural terraces, which were used to grow crops such as potatoes, quinoa, and corn. The terraces feature a complex system of irrigation channels and are a testament to the impressive engineering skills of the Inca civilization - in all spheres of their lives.
8. Pisaq, The Royal Estate and its Irrigation Canals
Built in the Inca heyday during the 15th century AD, Pisaq (Písac) was an important royal estate and city, which served as a religious and agricultural center. Its ruins are situated some 20 miles (33 km) northeast from Cusco.
Pisaq is renowned for its truly impressive agricultural terraces that leave every visitor in awe. They were used to grow crops such as corn, potatoes, and quinoa (the staples of Inca diet) - with incredible success. The site of Pisaq is also notable for its monumental stone structures, which include a series of temples, palaces, and other buildings. It was an important city of the Inca. Alas, it was completely devastated and destroyed in the 1530s by the Spanish conquistadors, headed by Francisco Pizarro . The modern settlement of Pisaq arose in the shadow of these noble ruins.
Nestled in the breathtaking Andes Mountains of Peru, just a stone's throw away from the world-famous Machu Picchu, lie the majestic ruins of Choquequirao, an ancient Incan citadel city whose lofty position and ambience won’t fail to invoke a sense of wonder and grandeur. 10. Tambo Colorado, the City of Colored Houses Tambo Colorado is an Incan archaeological site located in the Pisco Valley of Peru, and was built during the reign of the Inca emperor Pachacutec in the mid-15th century. This unique city served as a strategic administrative and military center for the Inca Empire, after the region was annexed from the Chincha culture.
The name Tambo Colorado means "Red Tambo" in Spanish, referring to the red color of the adobe walls. It is likely that all the buildings in the town were adorned with bright colors, and many of them can still be seen today. The site covers an area of about 6 hectares and includes several well-preserved buildings, including a large central plaza, residential quarters, and administrative buildings. Observing these majestic ruins, we can understand the complexity of the Incan Empire, and the importance of keeping the coastal and highland regions connected and controlled.
One of the most notable features of Tambo Colorado is the complex network of channels and canals that were used for irrigation and agriculture. Wherever the Incas chose to settle, they brought their advanced knowledge of agriculture with them. The site also includes a number of rooms and chambers that were used for storage and as living quarters. This means that Tambo Colorado had all the necessities for the thriving life of many citizens.

The US Congress now suggests that some UFOs are non-human in origin. This is the most significant assertion made in UFOlogy to date. Several insiders have openly acknowledged the existence of UFOs over the past few decades and implied that the phenomenon is always present around us and that our limited senses prevent us from being able to see it.
A few months ago, former CIA officer Jim Semivan made a shocking statement, saying “there’s a whole other reality that surrounds us that we just simply don’t have the ability to see or interact with.” He had worked with the CIA for 25 years before joining Tom Delonge’s “To the Stars Academy” with other ex-government insiders. The “To The Stars Academy” is an organization that claims to have been responsible for the release of the now-famous Pentagon UFO videos.
He described how he joined the CIA and acquired years of specialized training in spycraft. Since the CIA operates under the “need-to-know” premise, Semivan was not specifically informed of any UFO-related study, despite the fact that CIA analyst Kit Green was well-known for exploring the paranormal.
According to him, “There is a force out there that can control our environment, that can put thoughts into our heads.” In fact, Mr. Semivan has previously stated that UFOs sighted by the Navy are from another world. He made shocking assertions regarding unidentified flying objects in an interview with James Iandoli, saying that the occurrence can be startling, especially to children.
“When we started TTSA, we had discussions about this all the time. Are we sure we want to disclose this information? I mean, you know, are we going to scare eight-year-olds?”
“I had some friends who were like, ‘Oh, my daughter wants to know all about UFOs. Can we talk to you about that?’ And I said no. I’m not going to talk to you about that. What am I going to tell her or him, these 10-, 11-year-olds? Could such a reality kill them psychologically for the rest of their lives?”
“Yes, that there is a force out there that can control our environment and put thoughts into our heads. That they can lie to you, deceive you, and that you are not in control of your life. Tell this to a 12-year-old,” while succinct, Semivan suggests that the “rabbit hole goes much deeper” when it comes to the UFO phenomenon.
Moreover, in his recent podcast appearance on “Calling All Beings,” he fiercely said that non-human intelligence is living with humans on Earth. “There’s an entity out there! There’s some kind of non-human intelligence that’s living with us on this F**KING planet,” Semivan said.
Semivan spoke about his own experiences with alien-like beings that started happening to him and his wife in their bedroom in 1990 on Coast to Coast AM. He insisted that the event was real and that it was not a hypnagogic or dream state. The couple thereafter had intermittent poltergeist activity in their home, and more recently, he claimed to have seen a hooded figure that resembled the Death Eater from the Harry Potter series, who perhaps materialized to herald the death of a close friend.

Mr. Semivan said he agreed with the statement made by Colm Kelleher, a researcher at Skinwalker Ranch, that the UFO phenomenon is much more than just mechanical parts and devices because psychic and biological factors also contribute to the event’s extreme strangeness. He stated that To the Stars was still looking into “metamaterials” with unusual isotope ratios that may be connected to UFOs.
In the first half of the interview, Semivan said:
“I think they mention that the phenomenon is a natural part of our universe, and we’re living in it but we don’t recognize it. The same way that insects and animals don’t recognize the human universe. A cat and a dog could be running through a library, but they don’t have the faintest idea what the books are all about and what libraries are all about. We might be walking through our existence and there’s a whole other reality that surrounds us that we just simply don’t have the ability to see or interact with.”
“It seems to be peeking inside our little consensus reality. As I explained to somebody once, it comes close, it teases us, it cajoles us, it lies to us, but you can never take it home to meet the parents. It won’t allow you to do that. There’s no formal introduction. Add on top that there’s no ontology, which is just a fancy word, it basically means there’s no structure to even discuss this. We don’t have a common lexicon. Somebody said we have dots but no connections. I don’t even think we have dots.”
George Knapp: What about now? Upper echelons of the intelligence community? Possible reactions? Jim Semivan: Speculating here. Now people in the IC are willing to take it on. We briefed senior people on the topic. They wanted it to be out in the open. It is truly a national security issue. Don’t like – the military/government doesn’t own the topic. The phenomenon shows up everywhere. I want to know what the hell it is. Let’s take it private.
GK: Big picture stuff. Anyone know the full picture? JS: Don’t think anyone knows the true picture. Col Kelleher said it’s a lot more than nuts and bolts. There is a biological side to it – high strangeness and scary. When started TTSA we discussed this. Do we really want to know?

In 2003 and 2004, a series of unexplained fires broke out in Canneto di Caronia, Sicily, Italy. These fires were seen in household objects such as fridges, TVs, and mobile phones. A leaked interim report by the Italian Civil Protection Department, conducted with the involvement of a NASA scientist and ordered by the government, concluded that the most likely cause of the fires was “aliens.” The report estimated the cost of the two-year investigation at $1.2 million.
According to the report, the fires were caused by high-power electromagnetic emissions with a power of 12 to 15 gigawatts, which were not man-made. The report also cited a possible unidentified flying object (UFO) landing near the village, with burnt imprints found in a field that could not be explained.
Francesco Mantegna Venerando, Sicily’s Civil Protection chief, stated that they were still working on their conclusions. He noted that while they were not claiming little green men from Mars caused the fires, they were considering the possibility of unnatural forces producing a large amount of electromagnetic energy. Another possibility being explored was the testing of top-secret weapons by an unknown power capable of producing an enormous amount of energy.
In April 2004, when a series of mysterious fires broke out, the Italian Military became involved since there had been several reports by fishermen of luminous objects at night flying over and going into the sea. The Military detected a UFO on the radar, but they could not make visual confirmation from the ground. So, they sent a helicopter to investigate everything.

Lt. Col. Clarbruno Vedruccio of the Italian Navy’s Special Forces shared a story about a series of spontaneous fires in Sicily in 2004 and how a UFO approached the helicopter and fired a beam forced the pilots to make an emergency landing.
“In 2004, in Sicily, a craft appeared a few hundred meters behind the copter tail and it shot an (electromagnetic) ray that destroyed the helicopter wings. The signal was absolutely directional. Once the helicopter approached the coordinates, the UFO revealed itself, coming out of stealth mode. Officials said the helicopter was chased by a saucer-shaped UAP that shot a powerful, focused electromagnetic beam at its rotors. It fried them enough to disable the helicopter and force it to crash land. They figured out that the source of the spontaneous fires was an electromagnetic frequency from the sea. About 80 kilometres offshore and deep underwater really surprised Elizondo, as he was quite aware of underate sightings.
Elizondo said: “They were very pointed, in a matter of fact, that these things had been kind of plaguing them for some time. One individual, in particular, provided some very, very detailed information to include some analysis on frequency. I hate to say it, but they may have more information than we do, even in the US potentially.”

Another incident involved Captain Achille Zaghetti and his co-pilot, who encountered a 10-foot-long, khaki-colored UFO while flying from Milan to Heathrow. Capt. Zaghetti, recounting the 1991 event above Lydd, Kent, told Italian journalists: “It was shaped like a cigar and passed very close about 300 meters on the right, or 1,000ft.” (Source)

“It could have caused a terrible accident. If you’re flying at 700 kilometers an hour, hitting an object of 1kg is like hitting something which weighs 700kg.” Air traffic controllers at Heathrow spotted the UFO on the radar while directing a British Airways jet into the airport.
Capt Zaghetti claimed the object was not a weather balloon and resembled instead the sort of long-distance fuel tanks that fighter aircraft sometimes carry.
He was later contacted by a counter-terrorism official from an American agency who asked for more details about the encounter. He said he was glad his co-pilot had seen the UFO as well, because he did not want to be accused of being a fantasist. “And we had to visit the doctors every six months,” Capt Zaghetti added, saying there were no doubts about his health at the time.
“Had any foreign adversary attacked a military helicopter of another nation, that could surely be a sign of aggression, and maybe potentially an act of war. So that’s a big deal,” Elizondo said. So are the world militaries engaged in combat with UFOs? It was not the first time UFO attacked man-made crafts and missiles.
For 18 years, Robert Jacobs, a former US Air Force officer, had been participating in the official United States Government-ordered UFO cover-up. De verhalen van mensen die bijna dood zijn gegaan, maar het toch overleefden, hebben zoveel elementen gemeen en komen van zulke verschillende culturen dat wetenschappers vermoeden dat er een biologisch mechanisme aan ten grondslag ligt. In een nieuwe studie vonden onderzoekers van de University of Michigan daar opnieuw bewijs voor: bij twee stervende patiënten traden er pieken op in de hersenactiviteit, die kunnen wijzen op bewustzijn.
Piek in hersengolven Het is niet de eerste keer dat hier onderzoek naar wordt gedaan, wel is het voor het eerst dat dit bewustzijn in zoveel detail is aangetoond. De onderzoekers keken de EEG (elektro-encefalogram) terug van vier patiënten die overleden aan een hartstilstand. Ze lagen alle vier in coma. Toen bleek dat er geen verbetering meer zou optreden, is de beademing stopgezet.
Daarna gebeurde er bij twee van de vier patiënten iets opmerkelijks. Bij een vrouw van 24 en een vrouw van 77 ging de hartslag omhoog én waren er pieken in de hersengolven te zien in de gammafrequentie. Dat zijn de sterkste hersengolven die voorkomen bij intensieve cognitieve activiteit, zoals studeren of problemen oplossen.
Per toeval EEG Eerdere studies vonden ook al pieken in de gammagolven bij mensen die bijna dood gingen. Zo is er een belangrijk onderzoek uit 2022 van een 87-jarige man die na een val epileptische aanvallen kreeg en daarom gemonitord moest worden. De man kreeg onverwacht een hartaanval, waardoor hij stierf. Maar per toeval hadden de artsen dus zijn hersenactiviteit rond het sterven geregistreerd. En ook toen zagen ze pieken van gammagolven rond het tijdstip van overlijden.

Kruispunt De onderzoekers gingen nu een stap verder: ze wilden weten welke delen van de hersenen precies oplichten. Het bleek te gaan om het kruispunt van de temporale, pariëtale en occipitale kwab achter in de hersenen. Dit hersengedeelte heeft te maken met dromen, visuele hallucinaties bij epilepsie en een veranderde staat van het bewustzijn. “Als dit deel van het brein oplicht dan betekent dat, dat de patiënt iets ziet, iets hoort en mogelijk iets voelt in het lichaam”, zegt hoofdonderzoeker Jimo Borjigin, die benadrukt dat dit hersengebiedje ‘in vuur en vlam’ stond.
De activiteit van de hersenen en het hart werd nauwkeurig gemonitord, seconde voor seconde, in de laatste uren van het leven van de patiënt. Zo ontstond een zeer gedetailleerd beeld van de hersenactiviteit rond het moment van sterven.
Epilepsie Het is natuurlijk de vraag hoe het kan dat de hersenen zo overactief worden rond het overlijden, maar ook: waarom ervaren sommigen dit wel en anderen niet? Bij deze studie ervoeren maar twee van de vier patiënten een dergelijk ‘verborgen bewustzijn’. Mogelijk heeft dat ermee te maken dat hun hersenen anders werken doordat ze eerder al epileptische aanvallen hebben gehad, speculeert Borjigin.
Vanwege het beperkt aantal onderzochte patiënten, waarschuwen de onderzoekers voor al te grote conclusies. Ook stellen ze dat ze niet zeker weten of de patiënten écht dingen hebben gezien, aangezien ze het niet konden navertellen. “Dat gezegd hebbende: de geobserveerde bevindingen zijn geweldig en leveren een nieuw inzicht op voor ons begrip van het verborgen bewustzijn bij stervende mensen”, zegt de onderzoeker.

Een BDE komt zelfs niet alleen voor bij mensen die bijna doodgaan. De bijzondere verschijnselen, zoals het licht aan het eind van een tunnel of het uit het lichaam treden hebben waarschijnlijk te maken met de staat van de hersenen tijdens een verlaagd bewustzijn. Ook is het zo dat na een hartstilstand de hersenen nog minder dan 30 seconden actief blijven. Mogelijk treden dan de bekende verschijnselen op van de BDE.
Neuroloog Kevin Nelson omschrijft de BDE als een moment waarop het bewustzijn zijn oriëntatie kwijtraakt. Het lijkt op wat er in de hersenen gebeurt als je droomt of een epileptische aanval krijgt. De visuele ervaringen zouden kunnen ontstaan doordat het deel van de hersenstam dat de cortex aanstuurt, de hersenen omschakelt naar het droombewustzijn, waarbij iemand uiteindelijk de oriëntatie ten opzichte van het eigen lichaam kwijtraakt.

However, near-death experiences are common across the world, and experiments have found that dying lab animals experience bursts of brain activity. Now, scientists have revealed they detected the same kind of brain signals in dying comatose patients in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The new study, the most detailed yet on the dying human brain, may shed light on mysterious phenomena such as near-death experiences.
What we know about cardiac arrest
After "cardiac arrest" — that is, the heart stops—people typically appear to lose consciousness. However, researchers have long questioned whether consciousness actually continues in some covert manner during the dying process.
Previous research suggests 10 to 20 percent of cardiac arrest survivors report near-death experiences, which often involve a feeling of leaving the body, love and light, and spiritual beings. A number of scientists even claim near-death experiences can occur when electrical activity has apparently stopped in the brain.
Experiments on lab animals undergoing cardiac arrest reveal they can experience a surge of so-called "gamma activity." Brain waves are the rhythmic activity of brain cells; they come in a number of frequency bands named after Greek letters. Gamma waves have frequencies ranging from about 20 to 80 cycles per second and are linked with the coordinated brain function seen in people who are awake.
"The word coordinated here is important, as random activity would be more the signature of a dying dysfunctional brain than a brain that is able to produce the rich experience of the near-death experience," Peter Fenwick, a neuroscientist and neuropsychiatrist recently retired from King's College Hospital and the Institute of Psychiatry in London, told Inverse.
What the researchers did
In the new study, researchers used electroencephalography (EEG) to analyze electrical activity in the brains of four dying comatose patients in an intensive care unit before and after doctors withdrew life support with the approval of the patients' families.
Although scientists have previously recorded the activity of a dying human brain, this new work is a first in many ways, study senior author Jimo Borjigin, a neuroscientist at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, tells Inverse. None of the prior studies monitored and analyzed both brain and heart signals second-by-second during the entire dying process, nor did they investigate brain signals and their patterns across space and time in as much depth, he explains.
Previous work on the dying brain "comes mainly from animals, which is unhelpful as it has never been taken to this degree of analysis, with multiple electrodes and proper placing of the electrodes to show the widespread nature of the activity," says Fenwick, who did not take part in this research.
Prior research on dying human brains also fell short, "as there has not been comprehensive electrode coverage of the scalp or detailed computer frequency analysis," Fenwick adds. "This study thus opens a new door."
What brain activity reveals about near-death experiences
Two of the four patients experienced a rapid, massive surge of gamma activity in the brain as they died. This burst took place in the temporo–parieto–occipital junctions, which are linked to vision and hearing, and there’s evidence to suggest these junctions are linked to out-of-body experiences too, Borjigin says.
"They show quite clearly that as the life support goes, brain activity continues for a few minutes. The activity is very widespread and involves many of the areas which you might expect to be active in underpinning the consciousness of the near-death experience," Fenwick says.
Gamma rhythms were also seen between temporo–parieto–occipital zones and contralateral prefrontal areas. This may suggest whatever these patients experienced may have been encoded in the form of memories, Borjigin says. If they had survived, this meant they potentially could have recalled these experiences, he explains.
"They show quite clearly that as the life support goes, brain activity continues for a few minutes. The activity is very widespread and involves many of the areas which you might expect to be active in underpinning the consciousness of the near-death experience."
All in all, these findings suggest the human brain can indeed be active during cardiac arrest. "At last, we have been able to follow the dying brain's activity in detail," Fenwick says. "I know of no other study that is as comprehensive as this one."
Still, this new work does raise a number of caveats. "These findings must be very carefully interpreted because there is no evidence whatsoever that these brain activities were correlated with conscious experiences in those dying patients or that these findings could be compared with prospective near-death experience studies in patients who have survived a cardiac arrest and who reported a near-death experience," Pim van Lommel, a cardiologist at Rijnstate Hospital in Arnhem in the Netherlands, who did not participate in this study, told Inverse.
In addition, all four patients had brain damage during previous incidents of cardiac arrest. "Thus, their brains may have been damaged in a particular way which would invalidate this work," Fenwick says. The two patients in whom the gamma surge was seen also had a history of seizures, and so one might argue this gamma activity was related to seizures and not to a near-death experience, he adds.
This was a small study, Borjigin cautions. More studies are needed to determine what brain activity may be linked with near-death consciousness that might explain near-death experiences, he says.
"Perhaps we will no longer be so phobic about including the study of death as a proper scientific subject," Fenwick says.
In 2019, Former Polish President Lech Walesa shocked everyone with a story about aliens and UFOs. He had been serving as the president of Poland from 1990 to 1995. While addressing a public group in the city of Krosno, the retired politician said that he became a supporter of the idea that rational aliens not only exist but can also be dangerous to the Earth.
Walesa believes that there are 3 levels of intellectual development in other galaxies. Unfortunately, humanity is at the lowest level. He warned that the visit of incredibly advanced and intelligent creatures could be a threat to the security of our planet. “What are they doing here?” he said. “If we threaten to destabilize here with Macron, P[u]tin there, they will interrupt us, cut us in half, the Earth will collapse, everyone will crush,” said Walesa.
The former president suggested that such an invasion scenario could push humanity back for 5,000 years. It would take the restoration of civilization from scratch “to the very moment when we are today.”
Walesa also said that perhaps, similar situations had already occurred. There have been 5 or 4 civilizations like ours that had reached the same technological advancement that we are today. They made the same mistakes that we are doing now. They collapsed due to a lack of peaceful communication.

Regrettably, it is not easy to find complete translations of the speech given by the former politician who has since retired. However, one section of the speech provides a glimpse into Wałęsa’s views on extraterrestrial phenomena. These views include vague references to what might be construed as the work of Zecharia Sitchin or Erich von Däniken.
“The higher civilization can hold us that way for five thousand years. They will send Adam and Eve and we will build the world again,” he said. “People find things, dig in stones, these pyramids … no answer, where did it come from?”
Lech Walesa expressed his belief that there have been civilizations in our history that have reached similar levels of technological advancement to modern civilization but ultimately collapsed due to war and a lack of peaceful communication. This idea is not uncommon among those who believe in the possibility of extraterrestrial civilizations, as many speculate about the potential dangers of advanced technology in the absence of moral and ethical guidance.
The ex-politician also pointed to a variety of archaeological puzzles. He used them as examples of a potentially advanced human race that was destroyed many years ago. “People find things, dig in stones, these pyramids… no answer, where did it come from?” he said.
The media has often shown interest in and made fun of public officials who express their belief in the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence, and Wałęsa is not the first one to do so. Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera, a Florida congresswoman claimed to have been abducted by tall blonde aliens when she was a child.
While her claims were met with ridicule by many, her beliefs in extraterrestrial intelligence are not uncommon. In fact, many people around the world claim to have had similar experiences or encounters with alien beings, although their accounts are often met with skepticism and criticism.
Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid also advocated for a serious investigation of the UFO phenomenon. Reid believed that the government has not taken the UAP Phenomena seriously enough and that there is more evidence to suggest the reality of extraterrestrial life than many people realize. Reid’s beliefs are shared by many who believe that there is a cover-up surrounding the issue of UFOs and that the truth about extraterrestrial life has been kept from the public.
In March 2022, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory posted a paper on arXiv.org that detailed a new design for a message intended for extraterrestrial recipients. Is revealing Earth’s location to aliens a good idea? Physicist Stephen Hawking said that they could even destroy us. He spoke publicly about his fears that an advanced alien civilization would have no problem wiping out the human race the way a human might wipe out a colony of ants.
Considering Hawking’s statement, is there any hostile alien civilization out there? Recently, a research paper published on arXiv.org has explained the consequences of contacting extraterrestrial civilizations. The paper attempts to provide an estimation of the prevalence of hostile extraterrestrial civilizations through extrapolation of the probability that we, as the human civilization, would attack or invade an inhabited exoplanet once we became a Type-1 civilization in the Kardashev Scale capable of nearby interstellar travel.
The author of the paper Alberto Caballero admits that although there are some limitations, there are roughly four “malicious extraterrestrial civilizations” in the Milky Way.
Mr. Caballero suggests that the probability of invasion by a malicious extraterrestrial civilization is lower than the probability of a planet-killer asteroid collision. He researched the number of times invasions happened on Earth and applied it to the number of known and estimated exoplanets.
He concluded that sending radio messages to potentially habitable exoplanets has an extremely low probability of invasion. He mentioned that only one malicious extraterrestrial civilization in the Milky Way that has mastered interstellar travel is likely, making them the so-called “Type 1” civilization. The fear of alien invasions is mostly created due to the hostile behavior of aliens shown in Hollywood movies.
A former CIA pilot John Lear dedicated part of his life to serve in the US Air Force and then worked for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He believed that a significant number of alien civilizations visiting Earth are hostile or have a different set of morals than humans. Lear also referred to a 26-page document made by Bruce Maccabee, a physicist employed by the Naval Surface weapons laboratory, which he claims provides evidence of the UFO sighting over Anchorage. It’s the ultimate cosmic face-off: a pair of supermassive black holes (SMBHs), each with a mass of millions of Suns, warily circling each other and spiraling toward a titanic clash. Such mergers are thought to culminate in the universe’s most energetic blasts of gravitational waves, and they must be common to explain how SMBHs, found at the hearts of most galaxies, grow so big. But despite decades of searching, not a single SMBH binary has been conclusively identified. “We’ve been in a long dry spell of stuckness,” says Jenny Greene of Princeton University.
At a meeting this month at the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) in London, researchers reported on ongoing searches that have found tantalizing hints of SMBH binaries from across the electromagnetic spectrum. None have been confirmed, but growing data sets and new instruments could finally catch SMBHs in their lumbering dances. “I hope one of these things will break through,” Greene says.
The challenges are many. By definition, black holes emit no light of their own. The gravitational waves from SMBH collisions are at frequencies beyond the reach of current Earth-based detectors. And SMBH duos would emit other detectable signals only when they are close together, separated by a few light-years or less in orbits lasting at most a few decades. At that separation, even those black holes with bright “accretion disks” of matter being sucked into the hole would be too close to be distinguished by today’s sharpest eyed telescopes.
Astronomers look instead for odd, periodic behavior in light from SMBH accretion disks. One signature might originate in the cooler gases just beyond a disk’s edge. They emit light at specific wavelengths, which the gases’ swirling motion smears into “broad emission lines” through the Doppler effect.
If each SMBH in a duo had an accretion disk, however, they would produce two distinct sets of broad emission lines, displaced from each other by the motion of the black holes. Repeated observations might reveal variations in the position of the lines as the SMBHs circle each other. “They are only tiny fractions of an orbit, but they should be measurable,” Greene says.
More than a decade ago, Greene and her colleagues searched in data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, which has logged spectra from millions of galaxies since 2000. Although their trawl turned up seven galaxies with duplicated broad emission lines, none has showed clear signs of shifting since then. “Time scales are too short,” Greene told the RAS meeting. “If [Sloan] goes for another 10 years … we may see signals.”
Another tactic is to look for periodic flaring in the overall brightness of an accretion disk, which could be a sign of a disturbance from an SMBH companion. For example, an SMBH on a close but tilted orbit around a companion with an accretion disk might crash through the disk twice per orbit, causing it to flare.
Last year, in a preprint posted on arXiv, a team reported seeing just such periodic flaring in a galactic core spied by an optical survey telescope in California, and it was speeding up: from yearly to monthly. The team believed it was the final death spiral of an SMBH binary and predicted a merger within the year. “Unfortunately, it did not turn out to work that way,” says team member Huan Yang of the Perimeter Institute: The flaring rhythm became erratic.
Another prime candidate, known as OJ287, has flared every 11 or 12 years since the 1970s. But its latest flare failed to appear when expected in October 2022. “OJ287 could still be a binary, but we also cannot rule out that it is no binary at all,” says Stefanie Komossa of the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (MPIfR), whose team has been monitoring it since 2015.
Greene says she isn’t surprised that the hunt for periodic flares hasn’t paid off. Accretion disks are inherently noisy and can flare from other events, such as the SMBH swallowing stars or gas clouds. “There are many candidates, but nobody believes them,” she says.
Another way that SMBHs announce their presence is via jets, narrow beams of ionized gas fired out from the black hole’s poles at close to the speed of light. The ions gyrate around the SMBH magnetic field lines, producing synchrotron radiation at many wavelengths. If the SMBH producing the jet is orbiting in a binary, it may wobble like a top and blast out a helical jet, leaving ghostly corkscrew trails of glowing gas visible at radio wavelengths. Maya Horton of the University of Hertfordshire says the gas trails can persist for thousands or millions of years.
By combing through archives of radio images, Horton and her colleagues have compiled a list of 20 candidates with oddly shaped jets. They hope to find more when the Low Frequency Array (LOFAR), a set of radio antennas stretching across Northern Europe, releases a new data set in the coming months. LOFAR has asked citizen scientists in the Radio Galaxy Zoo project to look for curves in the galaxy images.
But a solitary SMBH can also mimic that signature if its accretion disk is tilted compared with the spin of the black hole. Through a process known as frame-dragging, the black hole causes the disk’s axis of rotation to swing round, or “precess.” And because jets are thought to align with the axis of the disk, a precessing disk should also produce a corkscrew jet.
In addition, theorists don’t yet fully understand how jets operate, let alone how interacting SMBHs might affect them. “They can hardly be modeled at the moment,” says MPIfR’s Silke Britzen. So she and other observers can’t be sure a curvy jet signals a black hole pair. “We’re more or less guessing.”
In search of a more definitive signal, Britzen’s team zoomed in with high-resolution radio observatories to the base of the jet, to see whether it varies over time. They targeted the flaring galaxy OJ287, whose jet is thought to be aimed almost directly at Earth. In 2018 they published an analysis of 120 images made over more than 2 decades with the Very Long Baseline Array, a set of 10 radio dishes stretching across the United States whose data are combined to achieve very high resolution. They found that OJ287’s jet changed shape in a way that seems to repeat every 22 years. Its brightness followed the same pattern. Recent, unpublished results show OJ287’s distribution of energy across frequencies also pulses over a 22-year cycle.
The three synchronous phenomena are evidence for a wobbling jet, Britzen argues. “The jet is working like a clock,” she says. Although she and her colleagues can’t rule out a precessing disk around a single SMBH, they favor a binary explanation, and have identified another 11 galactic cores showing similar patterns.
Britzen hopes that someday astronomers will be able to zoom in even further and see the binary SMBHs themselves with an upgraded version of the Event Horizon Telescope—an array of radio dishes spanning the globe that in 2019 produced the first image of an SMBH. The array might need to be expanded with radio dishes in space to get the resolution needed to discern an SMBH pair at galactic distances, but the payoff would be worth it, she says. “It would be fantastic to really see the two cores rotating.”

Vervolgens lieten de onderzoekers de proefpersonen naar andere podcasts luisteren en in gedachten zelf een verhaal verzinnen om te zien in welke mate de artificiële intelligentie erin slaagde om weer te geven wat de drie gehoord of verzonnen hadden. Wat bleek? Het waren niet dezelfde woorden en zinnen, maar de betekenis bleef wel min of meer bewaard. De AI vertelde het verhaal dus in eigen woorden.
De proefpersonen moesten ook naar een stomme film kijken terwijl de MRI-scanner alles registreerde. Door de hersenactiviteit te analyseren kon de AI een ruwe samenvatting geven van wat de mensen gezien hadden.
Voor je schrik krijgt dat AI binnenkort gaat verklappen wat je écht van het nieuwe lief van je vriend vindt: zo ver zijn we nog niet. Voorlopig heb je nog altijd een dure MRI-scanner nodig om iemands gedachten te lezen en zijn de AI-modellen individueel: ze werken alleen voor de personen op basis van wie ze gemaakt zijn. Elk brein heeft met andere woorden een eigen manier om betekenis voor te stellen.
Proefpersonen slaagden er ook in om de AI te misleiden door aan andere dingen te denken.
Iconische ringen van Saturnus zijn aan het krimpen
Op dit moment bestuderen enkele van de krachtigste observatoria de ringen rond Saturnus. Al enige tijd weten astronomen dat de ringen langzaam eroderen en in de atmosfeer van Saturnus terechtkomen. Desondanks is het nog steeds onduidelijk hoe snel het ringsysteem krimpt. Gelukkig zal NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (Webb) binnenkort dit intrigerende fenomeen onderzoeken en mogelijk nieuwe inzichten bieden.

James Fox, a documentary filmmaker, recently appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast to discuss his documentary Moment of Contact and the topic of UFO sightings. During the podcast, Fox revealed that Paul is an enthusiast on the subject and may have obtained a copy of a notorious UFO video that was rumored to have been uncovered by UFO specialist Chuck Clark around 30 years ago.
According to Fox, the video was recorded by two men in the Nevada desert, and it shows them driving in their car when they capture a UFO very close to them. The original video was reportedly captured on a handheld camera, and the two men can be heard sounding scared and trying to crawl under the seats of the car. One of them even gets out of the car and videotapes a disc that was so low you could have hit it with a rock.
Fox claims to have seen the video himself and described the eerie scene in detail to Rogan. He explained that the skin on the craft was glowing like phosphorus on a beach, and it had a yellowy-orange color to it. The craft wobbled like it was unstable, and the camera guy exclaimed, “Oh my God!” before the video suddenly shut off.
While the video has never been widely shared, it has become the stuff of urban legend among the community of UFO hunters. Chuck Clark allegedly turned down $100,000 in cash for the tape, and it has remained hidden from the public eye ever since.
However, Fox alleges that Paul is now in possession of a copy of the infamous footage after covertly filming it. Paul has yet to comment publicly on the matter, but if he does have the video, it could be a game-changer for the UFO-hunting community.
Paul has a massive following, and his endorsement of the video could bring it to the attention of a wider audience. The footage could also be analyzed by experts and provide further evidence of extraterrestrial life.

It may be tough for these worlds to hold onto liquid-water oceans, new research suggests.

In 2021, astronomers proposed a new class of exoplanets that contain hydrogen-rich atmospheres and support vast liquid-water oceans, making these hypothetical worlds potential candidates in the search for alien life.
However, new research suggests that these "Hycean" planets would suffer from a catastrophic runaway greenhouse effect, thus limiting their potential for habitability.
Hycean worlds get their name from a combination of "hydrogen" and "ocean," because these worlds — which would be larger than Earth but smaller than any of the giant planets in our solar system — are covered in thick, dense layers of a hydrogen atmosphere and could support vast liquid-water oceans.
Although no Hycean worlds have been confirmed to exist, the massive exoplanet survey by NASA's Kepler mission identified several candidate worlds that, based on estimates of their size and density, might be Hycean planets.
Astronomers are very interested in Hycean worlds. Where there's liquid water, there's a potential home for life as we know it. And because of their thick atmospheres, these planets can potentially exist in a much broader range of orbits around their parent stars without sacrificing their habitability, so there's even the chance that life is more common on Hycean worlds than our own.
But current research on the habitability of Hycean worlds isn't very detailed, and it relies on relatively simplistic models of atmospheric dynamics to understand how these planets can work. To remedy this, a team of researchers developed a more sophisticated approach for studying how a more accurate treatment of Hycean atmospheres and oceans would change our understanding of their behavior around different kinds of stars.
'Supercritical' oceans
The researchers found that the presence of a thick, hydrogen-dominated atmosphere radically changes how these planets behave, compared with a world like Earth. Our planet has a thick atmosphere too, but that atmosphere is composed of heavier elements, like nitrogen and oxygen. The ability of those elements to block or allow in specific wavelengths of light affects how warm the surface is for a given amount of solar radiation coming in.
But hydrogen acts differently: It blocks and admits different wavelengths of light, which, in turn, changes how the surface responds to sunlight. For example, the researchers found that if a planet with an atmospheric pressure 10 to 20 times Earth's (which is typical for Hycean worlds) were to be placed in the same orbit as Earth, its oceans would become "supercritical." That means the planet's temperatures would rise beyond the boiling point, which would lead to the oceans' evaporation and complete disappearance.
The researchers also found that the mixture of water vapor and hydrogen in Hycean planets' atmospheres changes their habitability. Hycean worlds cannot receive nearly as much sunlight as we previously thought before their oceans become too hot to sustain themselves as a liquid.
Previous models had placed the inner edge of the habitable zone, the region where surface temperatures on a world are just right to sustain liquid water, right around one astronomical unit (AU), the distance at which Earth orbits the sun. But the new calculations push the inner edge to 1.6 AU for worlds with similar air pressures as Earth. For Hycean worlds with 10 times the air pressure, the inner edge of the habitable zone is now thought to be 3.85 AU.
This means that Hycean worlds cannot live close to their parent stars, thereby limiting their range of habitability. Indeed, the researchers concluded that all the known potential Hycean worlds exist inside these new habitable limits and, therefore, are unlikely to host liquid-water oceans — and any chance for life. The researchers have submitted their work for publication in The Astrophysical Journal, and a preprint is available via arXiv(opens in new tab).
But there's still hope for these exoplanets' habitability. Hycean worlds can exist and sustain liquid-water oceans far beyond the outer edge of the habitable zones for Earth-like planets, so we may still find new promising candidates. The researchers hope to continue their work with even more detailed simulations to capture the complex and fascinating dynamics of these mysterious hypothetical worlds.

We Can Now See Into the Permanently Shadowed Craters on the Moon
An instrument called ShadowCam is giving NASA’s planned Artemis missions to the Moon some advanced views of a landing site. It’s mounted to the Danuri Korea Pathfinder Lunar orbiter sent to the Moon last year. Lately, this amazing camera has been sending back some highly detailed images of the lunar north and south pole regions.
One view peers into the deeply shadowed Shackleton crater. It shows the track of a boulder that slid down from the rim. This impact crater lies smack on top of the south rotational pole of the Moon. It dates back to an ancient impact some 3.6 billion years ago. Shackleton’s 12-kilometer-deep interior is in perpetual shadow. That is, the Sun never shines inside it. However, the mountains on its rim are always in sunlight.

The ShadowCam is 200 times more light-sensitive than most other cameras used to study and map the Moon from orbit. Its high-resolution images will provide a great deal of information for Artemis mission planners.
ShadowCam is able to see inside Shackleton and other craters fairly well thanks to Earthshine. It also uses light reflected from nearby mountains and crater walls that do receive direct sunlight. Some of ShadowCam’s images were captured during New Moon when sunlight shining off of Earth’s surface reaches the Moon. These “reflected light” sources aren’t bright, but ShadowCam was able to detect them.
Shackleton: One of the Intriguing Lunar Craters
NASA and other agencies landing astronauts on the Moon want to explore the Shackleton crater polar region because there’s a good chance that it contains water ice deposits. Over the years, lunar orbiters have studied and mapped this region. They’ve investigated the radiation regime and physical properties of the rocks and craters there. There appears to be an abundance of hydrogen, oxygen, silicon, iron, magnesium, calcium, aluminum, manganese, and titanium in the area.

Future explorers could locate resource processing facilities in the region to mine materials needed for construction and other activities. In addition, thanks to its perpetual shadowed condition, this region offers a great place for astronomical observations in the future. All of that activity lies farther down the line, after Artemis III lands its astronauts on the surface. Their first mission will be only a few days, long enough to start an in-depth study of this fascinating area of the Moon.
The Artemis mission plans cover a variety of bases, from the chances for scientific discovery, and economic benefits, but also because new generations of explorers will be returning to the Moon, more than half a century after the last ones left. The Artemis missions are part of an international cooperative effort that includes NASA, Canada, ESA, and others. Not to be outdone, the China National Space Administration also has set its sights on the Moon. They recently announced missions that could take their first explorers to the lunar surface later on in this decade.
China Finally Tells us What's Going on With its Mars Rover
The Zhurong Rover has sat unmoving and unresponsive on Mars since May 20th, 2022, when one of the planet’s infamous dust storms forced the science team to switch the rover to hibernation mode. It was expected to wake in late December, but has yet to show any signs of activity. Last week, the Rover’s chief designer, Zhang Rongqiao, offered an update on the rover’s status.
“We have not had any communication from the rover since it entered hibernation,” Zhang said. “We are monitoring it every day and believe it has not woken up because the sunlight has not yet reached the minimum level for power generation.”
The culprit is likely the same villain that has ended the careers of many a Martian robot: dust on the solar panels. Dust accumulation killed NASA’s Opportunity rover in 2018, and more recently, forced a premature end to the InSight lander’s data collection mission in 2022. It may have spelled the end for Zhurong too.
“Based on our analysis,” said Zhang, “the most likely possibility is that an unpredictable accumulation of Martian dust has led to a decrease in the power generation capacity, which is insufficient to wake it up.”
Of course, this doesn’t mean the end of the rover’s career for certain. Changing seasons on the red planet are expected to strengthen the Sun’s rays at Zhurong’s location in the near future. A benevolent dust devil might also wipe the solar panels clean. Either of these could bring power levels back within operational norms.
If the overaccumulation of dust is 30 percent higher than engineers had planned for, it might be survivable for Zhurong, causing it to reawaken once the seasons shift. A 40 percent overaccumulation, however, would mean it is unlikely to wake up ever again.
For now, all there is to do is watch and wait.

Zhurong already spent 358 days active on Mars, far outliving its primary 90-day mission. It traveled just under 2000 meters across Utopia Planetia, a large impact basin in Mars’ northern hemisphere. Zhurong used ground penetrating radar to gather data, discovering evidence that the region was once the site of an ancient ocean. Its other instruments collected weather data, including surface pressure and wind speeds. The rover also found evidence of ‘recent’ water, recent in this case meaning 400,000 years ago.
Zhurong arrived at Mars in tandem with an orbiter, Tianwen-1, which is still in operation and collecting data from orbit above the Martian surface.
As part of the update, Zhang also commented on the next deep space mission in the Tianwen series. Tianwen-2 will be a sample return mission, intended to bring material back from a near-Earth asteroid named 2016 HO3. Tianwen-2 is expected to launch in May 2025.
