Saturn is now in the "September" of its lengthy year, and an iconic space telescope is watching the ringed planet's change of seasons.
Spring and autumn officially got underway here on Earth's Northern and Southern Hemispheres, respectively, just a few days ago with the arrival of the vernal equinox. The coming and going of seasons is possible when a planet has a tilted axis — and both Earth and Saturn have a lean in their spins.
But there's a big difference in their length of seasons. Earth takes one year to orbit the sun, during which our planet experiences the cold and dreary, the sunny and delightful, and every seasonal middle-ground in between. But Saturn, the sixth planet from the sun, takes 29 Earth years to go around our star once. Earth moves through all its seasons repeatedly all the while Saturn remains in just one season; it takes roughly seven Earth years for Saturn to begin and end one of its seasons.

Thankfully, lengthy space missions like NASA's Cassini mission and the Hubble Space Telescope got plenty of time to observe seasonal changes on Saturn.
On March 18, Hubble team members based out of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland published new images that show subtle shade differences to the appearance of Saturn's clouds over the last several Earth years. In these images taken by Hubble during 2018, 2019 and 2020, Saturn's northern hemisphere is experiencing summertime and approaching its autumn. Meanwhile, like on Earth, it was winter (ang going on spring) in Saturn's southern hemisphere.
"What we found was a slight change from year-to-year in color, possibly cloud height, and winds — not surprising that the changes aren't huge, as we're only looking at a small fraction of a Saturn year," according to Amy Simon, planetary scientist at Goddard, who commented in the NASA press release that describes the new images. "We expect big changes on a seasonal timescale, so this is showing the progression towards the next season."
The Hubble data show that, from 2018 to 2020, the equator brightened by about 5% to 10%, and some cloud bands that were visible during certain years do not appear at other times.
Wind speeds also changed, according to NASA. Back when Cassini observed Saturn during the years 2004 to 2009, winds near the equator were roughly 800 miles per hour (roughly 1,300 kilometers per hour), according to the release.
Hubble's 2018 observations show equatorial wind speeds became much faster, about 1,000 mph (roughly 1,600 kph). By 2019 and 2020, however, Hubble detected that those wind speeds dropped back to the Cassini speeds from more than a decade ago.

The Hubble Space Telescope has been operating since 1990. The 30-year old spacecraft went into safe mode briefly this month, but it has returned to its science work once again as of March 11.

The U.S. has evidence of UFOs breaking the sound barrier without a sonic boom and making maneuvers impossible with known technology, the former Director of National Intelligence has revealed.
The revelations increased excitement about a forthcoming report detailing what the U.S. government has observed.
John Ratcliffe, who served as Donald Trump's Director of National Intelligence, said that many of the incidents still have no easy explanation.
'There are a lot more sightings than have been made public,' Ratcliffe told Fox News.
'Some of those have been declassified.
'And when we talk about sightings, we are talking about objects that have seen by Navy or Air Force pilots, or have been picked up by satellite imagery that frankly engage in actions that are difficult to explain.
'Movements that are hard to replicate that we don't have the technology for. Or traveling at speeds that exceed the sound barrier without a sonic boom.'

Ratcliffe told host Maria Bartiromo that the sightings of 'unidentified aerial phenomena' had been observed all around the world.
'When we talk about sightings, the other thing I will tell you is, it's not just a pilot or just a satellite, or some intelligence collection,' Ratcliffe said.
'Usually we have multiple sensors that are picking up these things, and some of these are unexplained phenomenon, and there is actually quite a few more than have been made public.'
The government was, in December, given a 180-day deadline to disclose what it knew, meaning that the report should be out before June 1.
Ratcliffe said he had hoped to publish their findings before he left office on January 20.
'We weren't able to get it down into an unclassified format quickly enough,' he said.
The report was part of a $2.3 trillion COVID relief bill, which Trump signed into law in December.
The bill contained the Senate Intelligence Committee's Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 that had in it a 'committee comment' section that addressed 'unidentified aerial phenomena.'
The report, produced by the Pentagon and the intelligence agencies, must identify, among other things, any threats posed by unidentified aerial phenomena and whether they may be attributed to foreign adversaries.
'Weather can cause disturbances, visual disturbances,' Ratcliffe said.
'Sometimes we wonder whether or not our adversaries have technologies that are a little bit further down the road than we thought or than we realized.
'But there are instances where we don't have good explanations for some of the things that we have seen.'
Avril Haines is now the Director of National Intelligence in the Biden administration.
The Defense Department announced in September the creation of an Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force on August 4.
Videos from the Navy were released last year through the Freedom of Information Act that showed UFOs moving at incredible speeds and performing seemingly impossible aerial maneuvers.
One of the videos was shot in November 2004; the other two were shot in January 2015. The three videos were code-named 'FLIR1,' 'Gimbal,' and 'GoFast.'
In the 2015 videos, Navy pilots can be heard expressing disbelief. All three UFO videos were captured by Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets.
The videos were made public and published because of efforts by the New York Times, as well as through efforts by To The Stars Academy, which was founded by Tom Delonge, the founder and lead vocalist for the bands Blink-182 and Angels & Airwaves.
Ratcliffe said it would be 'healthy' for as much of this information as possible to be made public.
A week before Ratcliffe stepped down, in January, the CIA released a treasure trove of newly-unsealed records.
They showed chilling accounts of hundreds of UFO sightings across the globe dating back to the 1950s - along with the international intelligence community's efforts to understand them.
A dossier with nearly 3,000 pages of documents about Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs) - the government's official term for what are commonly called UFOs - was published on The Black Vault website.
Thousands of paranormal enthusiasts pored through the collection of more than 700 individual documents, according to Black Vault's founder John Greenewald Jr, who has spent the past two decades suing the CIA to release the records and then scanning the pages into his database one by one.
The CIA purports that the files account for its 'entire' collection of declassified UAP intel, but Greenewald cautions that there's no way to verify that claim and has vowed to continue searching for further records.
The documents also show correspondence about UFO sightings between CIA officers and members of the military.
Sometimes the officials brush off observers' stories as purely superstitious, even when another explanation isn't clear. But in other instances the officers show genuine concern that perhaps something dangerous is at play.

In December it emerged that two Pentagon reports had been produced, providing detailed classified information about strange sightings.
The DoD's Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force issued the two classified intelligence 'position reports' in 2018 and summer 2020, and they circulated widely in the U.S. intelligence community, according to a detailed account from The Debrief based on interviews with multiple intelligence sources.
The position reports' startling contents included a leaked photo that has never before been made public, accounts of 'Unidentified Aerial Phenomena' (UAP) emerging from the ocean and soaring through the sky, and an admission that extraterrestrial origins for the objects cannot be ruled out.

The leaked photo was was captured in 2018 off the East Coast of the United States by a military pilot using his cell phone camera, the sources said.

It appears that the image was captured by the backseat weapons systems operator of what appears to be an F/A-18 fighter jet.
Experts were baffled by the photo, but noted that the object somewhat resembles a GPS dropsonde, an atmospheric profiling device designed to be dropped from aircraft, typically over a hurricane.
'These revelations are extraordinary, and give the public a genuine peek behind the curtain when it comes to how the US government is handling the UFO issue,' Nick Pope, who investigated UFOs for the UK Ministry of Defence, told DailyMail.com.
'What this new information does is confirm that the US government is taking the UFO phenomenon more seriously than ever before,' he added. 'I anticipate further revelations shortly.'
The Pentagon has not confirmed the existence of the two position reports, as well as the authenticity of a leaked cockpit photo included in one of the reports.
Even more shocking were the revelations contained in a second, revised report issued by the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force in early 2020.
The report delved deeply into the possibility that UAP are able to freely move both through the air and underwater, zipping through the ocean undetected and emerging into the air at incredible speeds.
The report contained an 'extremely clear' photograph of an unidentifiable triangular aircraft that emerged from the ocean in front of a F/A-18 Hornet fighter pilot, sources told The Debrief.

That photo has not been leaked publicly, but artist and researcher Dave Beaty's recreation shows it as described by sources: a large equilateral triangle with rounded or 'blunted' edges and large, perfectly spherical white 'lights' in each corner.
The encounter occurred off the East Coast in 2019, according to officials who had seen the latest report.
Two officials said said the photo was taken after the triangular craft emerged from the ocean and shot straight upwards.
Officials say the latest report focused specifically on the possibility of 'transmedium' craft that are able to operate both underwater and in the air.
'Tic Tac' UFO: US Navy pilot made visual contact with the object on November 14, 2004
At least six Super Hornet pilots made visual or instrument contact with the UFO on November 14, 2004.
The encounters, which are documented in numerous interviews with first-hand witnesses, remain a mystery, and the object's incredible speed and movements have led to speculation that it was extraterrestrial in origin.
The original FLIR video from the USS Nimitz encounters leaked online as early as 2007.
Witnesses say that clips of the video had been circulated widely on the Navy's intranet - used to communicate between ships in the carrier group - and an unknown sailor in the group likely first leaked it.
The clip became one of the most-touted pieces of evidence in the UFO community when the Pentagon confirmed its authenticity in 2017.
In January, Chad Underwood, the former Navy aviator who shot the famous leaked video clip, broke his silence in an interview with New York Magazine.

He said the oblong, wingless 'Tic Tac' shaped object was spotted off the coast of Mexico over the Pacific.
He also revealed that for about two weeks, the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Princeton, part of Carrier Strike Group 11, had been tracking mysterious aircraft intermittently on an advanced AN/SPY-1B passive radar.
The radar contacts were so inexplicable that the system was even shut down and restarted to to check for bugs - but operators continued to track the unknown aircraft.
Then on November 14, Commander David Fravor says he was flying in an F/A-18F Super Hornet when he made visual contact with the object, which seemed to dive below the water, resurface, and speed out of sight when he tried to approach it.
As Fravor landed on the deck of the Nimitz, Underwood was just gearing up to take off on his own training run.
Fravor told Underwood about the bizarre encounter, and urged Underwood to keep his eyes open.
He recalls how he suddenly saw a blip on his radar before tracking it on his FLIR camera.

'The thing that stood out to me the most was how erratic it was behaving,' Underwood told the magazine.
'And what I mean by 'erratic' is that its changes in altitude, air speed, and aspect were just unlike things that I've ever encountered before flying against other air targets.'
Underwood said the object wasn't obeying the laws of physics and dropped from 50,000 feet altitude to 100 feet in seconds, which he says, 'isn't possible'. He added that he saw no signs of an engine heat plume or any sign of propulsion.
The pilot refuses to speculate as to whether the object is an alien spacecraft or not, however.
'That's not my job. But I saw something. And it was also seen, via eyeballs, by both my commanding officer, Dave Fravor, and the Marine Corps Hornet squadron commanding officer who was out there as well.'
In a Fox News interview, Trump's former intelligence director said the sightings are difficult to explain.

More inexplicable sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) will be released for public scrutiny in June — including a UFO that broke the sound barrier without producing a sonic boom.
Speaking on Fox News, the former director of National Intelligence, John Ratcliffe, said Saturday (March 20) that the sightings are "difficult to explain." Ratcliffe, who served in the Trump administration, said he'd hoped to declassify the reports during his tenure but that they will be released by the Pentagon by June 1.
It's not the first time the military has released strange reports, and even videos, of UFOs, known in military parlance as unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs). In April 2020, the U.S. Navy released three videos appearing to show aircraft flying faster than the speed of sound. And Senate intelligence reports reveal that the Pentagon is still on the hunt for UFOs or UAPs. But check your excitement, Fox Mulder — the military is generally more concerned about whether UAPs might be secret aircraft or weapons developed by other nations than it is about finding evidence of ET in our midst.
According to Newsweek, Ratcliffe said the upcoming Pentagon report will include more sightings and reports of objects moving in seemingly impossible ways or breaking the speed of sound without an accompanying sonic boom. The unexplained sightings occurred all over the world, he said, and include events picked up on automated sensors and not just by human eyes.
"There are instances where we don't have good explanations for some of the things that we've seen," Ratcliffe told Fox News.
The report and declassification is required under the Intelligence Authorization Act for 2021.
However, the sightings may not even represent advanced Earth technology. Debunkers have suggested that the apparent extreme speed of the aircraft in the videos released in April 2020 could be an optical illusion called parallax. This effect occurs when an object close to a camera lens appears to be moving, sometimes quite quickly, as the camera moves, just because it's closer to the lens than objects in the background. (A video example is available at SyfyWire.) Thus, the objects in the video could be as mundane as passenger planes or weather balloons. Some of the sudden movements in the videos may be artifacts of the camera zooming or sharpening the image, Vice reported.
There are also declassified experimental aircraft that can do things like break the speed of sound without the enormous "crack" of a sonic boom. NASA's X-59 Quiet SuperSonic Technology aircraft, which is under construction and not yet in flight, is designed to fly faster than sound without making more than a gentle thump to listeners on the ground. It's unknown if governments have similar, secret technology in testing or use.
Whatever the to-be-released videos show, it's a time of unprecedented document release around UFOs. In January, the CIA unveiled three decades' worth of documents about mysterious incidents reported to or investigated by the agency.

De onderzoekers van de Event Horizon Telescope brachten de eerste afbeelding van het zwarte gat in april 2019 naar buiten. Daarop is een ring van licht rond een donker centrum te zien. Het gaat om een gat in het midden van Messier 87 (M87), een sterrenstelsel in het sterrenbeeld Maagd, op 55 miljoen lichtjaar afstand van de aarde. Het zwarte gat heeft een doorsnee van 40 miljard kilometer en is ongeveer 6,5 miljard keer zo zwaar als onze zon.
Zwarte gaten zijn plekken in het heelal waar de zwaartekracht zo groot is, dat niets eraan kan ontsnappen, zelfs licht niet. Alles wat in de buurt komt, wordt opgeslokt en verscheurd. Bij dat verzwelgen schiet het zwarte gat stralen van energie en materie de ruimte in. Die worden jets genoemd. Die komen bij het zwarte gat in M87 tot minstens 5.000 lichtjaar ver.
NASA verstopte stukje van eerste vliegtuig van gebroeders Wright in Marshelikopter
Marshelikopter Ingenuity maakt zich op voor zijn eerste vlucht op de rode planeet. Die is gepland voor begin april. In de aanloop ervan verklapte NASA gisteren dat Ingenuity een stukje stof van het eerste gemotoriseerde vliegtuig van de Amerikaanse luchtvaartpioniers Wilbur en Orville Wright aan boord heeft.
De expeditie van Marsrover Perseverance (Volharding), die op 18 februari op Mars is geland, draagt een soort matroesjka-component in zich, zo blijkt. Onder de robotjeep hangt de minihelikopter Ingenuity (Vindingrijkheid), die op of rond 8 april zijn eerste testvlucht op Mars zal afwerken. En onder het zonnepaneel van deze kleine helikopter - eerder een drone - zit dan weer een lapje stof van het eerste gemotoriseerde vliegtuig van de gebroeders Wright uit 1903 verborgen. Symbolisch, uiteraard. Bobby Braun, directeur voor planetaire wetenschap bij het Jet Propulsion Laboratory van NASA, omschreef de aanstaande poging van Ingenuity om de eerste gemotoriseerde, gecontroleerde vlucht op een andere planeet uit te voeren als een “gebroeders Wright-moment”.
Op vraag van NASA schonk het Carillon Historical Park in Dayton (Ohio), de geboorteplaats van de gebroeders Wright, het meegereisde stukje textiel uit de linkerondervleugel van hun eerste vliegtuig met kleine motor. Een overgrootnicht en -neef van de twee broers gaven hun zegen om het lapje stof de trip van zo’n 480 miljoen kilometer naar Mars te laten maken. “Wilbur en Orville Wright zouden blij zijn te horen dat een klein stukje van hun Wright Flyer I uit 1903, het toestel dat het ruimtetijdperk lanceerde met amper een kwart mijl (400 meter, jv), weer de geschiedenis zal inzweven op Mars”, aldus Amanda Wright Lane en Stephen Wright.
Op 17 december 1903 maakte Orville Wright als eerste piloot in de geschiedenis een geslaagde vlucht met een gemotoriseerd vliegtuig. Het toestel, dat de naam ‘Wright Flyer’ en later ook ‘Flyer 1' kreeg, kwam van de grond in het dorp Kitty Hawk op de Outer Banks in de staat North Carolina.
Van de Wright Flyer vlogen eerder al fragmentjes hout en stof mee naar de maan, samen met Neil Armstrong in de Apollo 11 in 1969. Ook astronaut John Glenn had in 1998 wat mee van de Flyer 1 toen hij op 77-jarige leeftijd met de spaceshuttle Discovery als oudste persoon ooit de ruimte invloog. Glenn en Armstrong kwamen allebei, net als de broers Wright, uit Ohio.
Voorlopig blijft Ingenuity nog even vastgehecht aan de buik van Perseverance. Dit weekend viel een beschermingsplaat weg, zodat je de kleine helikopter nu al wel kan zien hangen. De eerste vlucht op Mars van de miniheli, die amper 1,8 kilogram weegt, is voorzien voor ten vroegste 8 april. De Ingenuity stijgt dan verticaal op tot een hoogte van drie meter, blijft daar dertig seconden stationair hangen, maakt een rotatie rond zichzelf, en daalt dan weer af naar het Marsoppervlak. De heli krijgt zijn instructies enkele uren op voorhand, maar analyseert zelf zijn positie ten opzichte van de grond en neemt ondertussen dertig foto’s per seconde.
De vlucht wordt volgens de NASA geen sinecure, want de dichtheid van de atmosfeer van Mars is maar één procent dan die van de onze. Bovendien krijgt het oppervlak van Mars gedurende de dag slechts de helft van de zonne-energie die wij ontvangen, terwijl het ‘s nachts tot min negentig kan worden, wat onbeschermde elektrische componenten kan doen bevriezen en stuk gaan.
In een maand tijd zullen nog vijf andere vluchten volgen, telkens op grotere hoogte. Alles zal vlak naast de landingsplaats van Marsjeep Perseverance in de Jezerokrater gebeuren. De rover zal de testvluchten observeren vanop afstand, om daarna weg te rijden om zijn eigen missie te volbrengen. Perseverance gaat onder meer op zoek naar tekenen van vroeger leven op Mars.

Anthropologists know of at least two ancient species of tiny humans that lived on the islands of southeast Asia over 50,000 years ago. The origin of these extinct humans is unknown, but new research suggests they’re more closely related to Denisovans and Neanderthals—and, by consequence, modern humans—than previously thought.
New research published in Nature Ecology & Evolution has found no evidence of interbreeding between modern humans (Homo sapiens) and two extinct species of short-statured humans, Homo floresiensis (commonly known as the Flores Island “hobbits”) and Homo luzonensis (found in the Philippines). Fossil evidence of these two species, described in 2004 and 2019 respectively, suggests these island-dwelling humans stood no taller than around 3 feet and 7 inches (109 centimeters), a possible consequence of insular dwarfism—an evolutionary process in which the body size of a species shrinks over time as a consequence of limited access to resources.
At the same time, the new paper, led by João Teixeira from the University of Adelaide, provides further confirmation of interbreeding between the Denisovans and modern humans, specifically modern humans living in Island Southeast Asia, an area that encompasses tropical islands between east Asia, Australia, and New Guinea. Denisovans—a sister group of Neanderthals—reached the area some 50,000 to 60,000 years ago, but archaeologists have yet to uncover a shred of fossil evidence related to these so-called “southern Denisovans.” That’s obviously weird, given the overwhelming genetic evidence that they lived in this part of the world, but it means there are important archaeological discoveries still waiting to be found. At least in theory.
So, the new paper, co-authored by anthropologist Chris Stringer from the Natural History Museum in London, suggests modern humans interbred with Denisovans but not H. floresiensis or H. luzonensis. That’s an important result, because it could help to explain the presence of the diminutive humans, who died out around 50,000 years ago, in this part of the world. Excitingly, it could mean that these “super-archaics,” in the parlance of the researchers, “are not super-archaic after all, and are more closely related to [modern] humans than previously thought,” explained Teixeira, a population geneticist, in an email.
In other words, H. floresiensis or H. luzonensis might actually be the elusive southern Denisovans.
Unknown Species of Tiny Ancient Human Discovered in Philippine Cave

Given that present-day human populations in Island Southeast Asia have retained a significant amount of Denisovan DNA, the authors wondered if H. floresiensis and H. luzonensis also interbred with modern humans. It was also possible, though unlikely, that another ancient human called H. erectus, which lived in Java until around 117,000 to 108,000 years ago, might’ve also contributed to modern human ancestry. Indeed, one possible scenario is that the super-archaics were descended from H. erectus.
To that end, the scientists studied the DNA of 400 modern humans, of which more than half were of Island Southeast Asia ancestry. The team searched for key genetic signatures indicative of interbreeding events related to “deeply divergent hominin species,” said Teixeira. Island Southeast Asia is the “most likely geographic region where such events could have occurred due to the aforementioned presence of H. floresiensis and H. luzonensis, and perhaps H. erectus as well,” he added.
It’s important to note that scientists do not have genomes for the two short-statured species, nor H. erectus for that matter.
“There are no ‘first-hand’ genomes of the kind we have from Neanderthals and Denisovans, but there are ‘second-hand’ bits of DNA in the Denisovan genomes that seem to come from them having interbred with a super-archaic population,” explained Stringer in an email. “These can be recognised by their greater-than-average divergence within the genome and also, if there has been recent interbreeding, the strands of DNA will have been shuffled up less, and hence found in larger and more ‘pristine’ chunks.”
To be clear, the scientists are not looking for specific species-related genomes, but evidence of interbreeding, which leaves a pronounced genetic signature across the entire genome.
Results showed that modern humans did not interbreed with the two small human species, but the team did confirm Denisovan ancestry among individuals from Island Southeast Asia. As Stringer put it, “the DNA of local populations shows signs of ancestry from the Denisovans, who are currently only known from fossils in Asia, but no genetic evidence deriving from the ancient humans whose bones have actually been found in the area.”
Indeed, fossil evidence of Denisovans is non-existent in Island Southeast Asia, and the evidence that does exist elsewhere is sparse. Aside from genetics, the presence of this human species is known from a finger bone, several teeth, and skull fragments found in Siberia, as well as a 160,000-year-old jawbone found in a cave on the Tibetan Plateau.
The new research confirms that the two super-archaic species “did not contribute ancestry to modern human populations,” or if they did, they’re “not so divergent as currently assumed based on morphological comparisons,” said Teixeira. These short-statured humans may seem very different from modern humans, and thus very divergent, but that could be an illusion, as their DNA may actually be very similar to ours and especially to that of Denisovans, according to this line of thinking.
For Teixeira, the absence of this interbreeding combined with the widespread Denisovan ancestry means the two super-archaic species might represent the missing Denisovans in Island Southeast Asia, or some kind of offshoot.
“The ISEA fossil hominins are thought to represent a much older split (approximately 2 million years ago). But those estimates rely on morphological comparisons to, and the assumption they descend from, H. erectus,” he explained. “Our results show that such super-archaic species did not interbreed with modern humans in ISEA—but what if we’re wrong? What if hominin occupation in ISEA was not continuous? What if Denisovan ancestry in ISEA comes from these groups?”
To which he added: “No one knows for sure what a Denisovan is supposed to look like nor how much morphological variation existed within different Denisovan populations,” he explained. “If that is the case,” the revelation that the super-archaics are actually the southern Denisovans “could have serious implications for paleoanthropology.”
Stringer, on the other hand, isn’t so sure, as his interpretation of the evidence suggests a different lineage for the tiny human species.
“The known fossils of H. erectus, H. floresiensis, and H. luzonensis might seem to be in the right place and time to represent the mysterious ‘southern Denisovans,’ but their ancestors were likely to have been in place in Island Southeast Asia long before the Denisovan lineage had evolved,” and possibly as long as 700,000 years ago, Stringer explained.
“George, co-authors do not always agree on everything,” Teixeira told me when I queried him about this apparent inconsistency.
Regardless, theco-authors believe that interbreeding between southern Denisovans and modern humans happened in Island Southeast Asia.
“The presence of the largest amounts of Denisovan-like DNA in regions like Papua New Guinea and Australia suggests that the interbreeding occurred in ISEA or, much less likely in my opinion, a place like Papua New Guinea,” explained Stringer in his email. “My guess is that Sumatra, Borneo, and Sulawesi were the homelands of the missing ‘southern Denisovans’ and will most likely yield up their fossils.”
Stringer said these results depend on the samples analyzed and that more samples are likely to provide a fuller picture.
The new paper, while illuminating, raises some very important questions. First and foremost, where are the Denisovan fossils in Island Southeast Asia? And, as Teixeira asks, “have we already found them but assumed these fossils represented much more distant relatives?” In other words, maybe the “hobbits” were the southern Denisovans all along.

Microplastic aangetroffen in nieuw ontdekt kreeftje op 7 km diepte
Britse onderzoekers hebben microplastic gevonden in een nieuw ontdekte kreeft, op bijna 7 kilometer diepte in de Marianentrog ter hoogte van de Filipijnen. Dat meldt het Vlaams Instituut voor de Zee (VLIZ) vandaag. Er werden resten van vermoedelijk een PET-fles aangetroffen in de darm van het diertje.
Onderzoekers van Newcastle University ontdekten in de reuzenvlokreeft een vezel polyethyleentereftalaat of PET, afkomstig van een plastic fles. Het is niet zo ongewoon dat dieren microplastics binnenkrijgen, maar deze kreeft bevond zich op 7 kilometer diepte in de Marianentrog, de diepste onderwatertrog ter wereld.
Het diertje van anderhalve centimeter leeft van aas dat neerdwarrelt vanuit hogere waterlagen en kreeg daarom de naam Eurythenes plasticus. Eerder werden al microplastics gevonden in andere diepzeekreeftjes in de tot 8 km diepe Peru-Chilitrog, aan de westkust van Zuid-Amerika.

Instrument met Belgisch tintje achterhaalt hoe Mars deel van water verloor
Mars heeft het grootste deel van zijn hoeveelheid water verloren. Dankzij een co-Belgisch instrument op de Europese sonde Mars Express hebben wetenschappers een tip van de sluier gelicht hoe dit is kunnen gebeuren, zo meldt het Europese Ruimtevaartbureau ESA.
Dat er ooit veel water op de Rode Planeet is geweest en mogelijk evenveel als bij ons, is ondertussen voldoende duidelijk geworden. Maar Mars heeft over enkele voorbije miljarden jaren heen veel water in de atmosfeer zien opgaan en dat is nog steeds het geval.
Hoe dit kon gebeuren was onduidelijk, maar onderzoek met de deels Belgische SPICAM-spectrometer (instrument dat de chemische samenstelling en de evolutie van de atmosfeer van Mars bestudeert, nvdr.) op de in juni 2003 gelanceerde Mars Express zijn enkele processen duidelijk geworden.
Waterdamp
De atmosfeer vormt de sleutel, zo bleek. Wetenschappers onderzochten waterdamp in de atmosfeer van de grond af tot een hoogte van 100 km, over acht Marsjaren heen (zo'n vijftien Aardse jaren).
Anna Fedorova van de Russische Academie voor Wetenschappen en collega's vonden dat die waterdamp beneden 60 kilometer hoogte bleef wanneer de planeet zich ver van de Zon bevond, maar tot 90 kilometer klom wanneer Mars het dichtst tot onze ster stond. De baan van de planeet schommelt tussen 207 en 249 miljoen kilometer van de Zon.
Nabij de Zon zorgden de hogere temperaturen en meer intensieve circulatie in de atmosfeer ervoor dat het water op een zekere hoogte niet bevroor. De bovenste laag van de atmosfeer raakte vochtig en gesatureerd met water. Dit verklaart waarom water tijdens dit seizoen sneller ontsnapt: het water komt hoger, wat ertoe bijdraagt dat het in de ruimte verdwijnt.
Stofstorm
Dan is er nog een tweede mechanisme. Het bleek dat in de jaren waarin er een enorme stofstorm op Mars woedde, de atmosfeer nog vochtiger werd en dat er zich water accumuleerde op meer dan 80 kilometer hoogte. De Franse onderzoeker Jean-Yves Chaufray schatte dat het waterverlies met een factor 100 kan variëren wanneer er zich een stofstorm voordoet.
Mars verliest aldus elk miljard jaar het equivalent van een laag van twee meter water. Maar geaccumuleerd over de vier miljard jaar dat de planeet bestaat, is dat nog geen verklaring voor waar al het water op de planeet naartoe is. Mogelijk is het onder de grond verdwenen of is er vroeger veel sneller water ontsnapt, suggereert Chaufray.
Een studie in het wetenschappelijk tijdschrift Science bracht vorige week al aan het licht dat heel wat water werd opgezogen door de bodem van de planeet. Daar ging het onomkeerbaar deel uitmaken van de moleculaire structuur van mineralen.
Government Agencies Are About To Disclose What They Know About UFOs, And That Will Be A Dramatic Paradigm Shift
Do you believe in UFOs? Decades ago, if you answered yes to such a question many would have considered you to be a nutjob. But at this point UFOs are not a “conspiracy theory” any longer. In fact, even the U.S. government is admitting that they exist, and in just a few weeks we may learn a whole lot more about what the U.S. government really knows about this phenomenon. When President Trump signed a 2.3 trillion dollar COVID relief bill last December, it contained a provision which requires all U.S. intelligence agencies to submit an unclassified report to Congress that reveals all that they know about UFOs…
In December 2020, President Trump signed a coronavirus relief bill that included an interesting stipulation – the bill set into motion an 180-day time frame in which US intelligence agencies must tell Congress everything they know about UFO sightings, via an unclassified report.
Remarkably, in what sounds like the opening crawl of an unimaginative sci-fi film, the report must also include an analysis as to whether or not UFOs pose a threat to national security (perhaps, one day, our puny, primitive weapons will be used to “bring democracy” to a space-faring civilization).
Unfortunately, U.S. intelligence agencies insisted that 180 days did not give them enough time, and so now the report is expected to be released somewhere around June 1st.
But it is coming, and the COVID relief bill was very specific about what it must include…
The report will include all data found through “geospatial intelligence, signals intelligence, human intelligence and measurement and signals intelligence.” Classified information held by the Office of Naval Intelligence, the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force and the FBI will be included as well.
It will be fascinating to see what actually ends up in this report.
Personally, I don’t think that the intelligence agencies will come even close to revealing everything that they know. But the fact that former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe was willing to share so much information during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Friday seems like a good sign. According to Ratcliffe, there have been “sightings all over the world”…
Ratfcliffe said some UFO sightings have been declassified in the past, but a report to be released by the Pentagon and other federal agencies will present more information to the American people.
“There have been sightings all over the world,” Ratcliffe said. “And when we talk about sightings, the other thing I will tell you, it’s not just a pilot or just a satellite or some intelligence collection. Usually, we have multiple sensors that are picking up these things.”
Yes, it is definitely quite true that there have been sightings all over the planet, but Esri has released an animated map that shows that more UFO sightings happen in the United States than anywhere else by a good margin.
During his interview, Ratcliffe also admitted that some of the things that UFOs do are “difficult to explain”, and that includes “traveling at speeds that exceed the sound barrier without a sonic boom”…
“Frankly, there are a lot more sightings than have been made public. Some of those have been declassified. And when we talk about sightings, we are talking about objects that have been seen by Navy or Air Force pilots, or have been picked up by satellite imagery, that, frankly, engage in actions that are difficult to explain, movements that are hard to replicate, that we don’t have the technology for, or traveling at speeds that exceed the sound barrier without a sonic boom.”
Of course videos that the U.S. Navy has previously released have already confirmed the fact that UFOs often perform aerial feats that human pilots simply cannot match…
Videos from the Navy were released last year through the Freedom of Information Act that showed UFOs moving at incredible speeds and performing seemingly impossible aerial maneuvers.
One of the videos was shot in November 2004; the other two were shot in January 2015. The three videos were code-named ‘FLIR1,’ ‘Gimbal,’ and ‘GoFast.’
In the 2015 videos, Navy pilots can be heard expressing disbelief. All three UFO videos were captured by Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets.
If UFOs can perform “seemingly impossible aerial maneuvers”, that would seem to suggest that whoever is piloting them is even more technologically advanced than we are.
I am entirely convinced that the U.S. government knows a great deal about UFOs and those that are flying them, and millions of Americans are very much looking forward to the release of the upcoming unclassified report.
U.S. government agencies will certainly not tell us everything, but I do believe that they will reveal more details than they ever have before.
Ultimately, I believe that the stage is being set for a great deception of epic proportions, and that is why I am starting to write more about the UFO phenomenon.
As more information is shared with the public, the narrative will be that UFOs are “spacecraft” that contain “aliens” from another planet.
And I think that it is quite likely that officials will insist that they are “friendly” and that we should be open to “learning” from them.
But the truth is that they are definitely not our “friends”.
As humanity moves into the darkest hours that it has ever known, people will become increasingly desperate for someone to come along and save us.
And if “aliens” were to show up with technology that we do not currently possess, many would be tempted to embrace them as “saviors”.
For decades, Hollywood has been relentlessly priming us for such a scenario, and now the U.S. government is starting to publicly acknowledge that UFOs aren’t just science fiction.
This is a story that is going to become increasingly important over the next few years, and it isn’t going to end well.
AMAZING DETAILED ALIEN CRAFT CLOSE ENCOUNTER OVER NEW GUINEA
JUNE 26, 1959…………………PAPUA NEW GUINEA
According to renowned UFO investigator, Dr. J. Allen Hynek, one of the most well-documented “close encounters of the third kind” occurred in the Anglican mission village at Boianai, Papua, New Guinea, which was, at the time of the incident, still a territory of Australia. The Australian Anglican Church was very involved in missionary work, and ardent in sending its heralds to the island nation.
One of these was the Father William Booth Gill. Gill was highly thought of by his co-hearts, and all those who knew him. As far as the occurrence of extraordinary events was concerned, Gill was skeptical, to say the least, especially being a devoted Church worker.
The first hint of the events to come, began on April 5, 1959, when Gill saw a light on the uninhabited Mount Pudi. This light, Gill stated, moved faster than anything he had ever seen. A month or so later, his assistant, Stephen Moi, saw an “inverted saucer-shaped object” in the sky above the mission. Gill dismissed these sightings as some sort of electrical or atmospheric phenomena.
Little did he know, that these events, whatever they were, had drawn their attention to the sky above them, and soon William Gill would have one of the most celebrated UFO sightings to ever be documented, which was validated by a whole group of additional witnesses.
This extraordinary event would take place at 6:45 P.M.,June 26, 1959. Father Gill saw what he described as a bright white light to the Northwest. Word of the sight spread quickly, and within a few moments, Gill was joined by no less than thirty-eight additional witnesses, including Steven Moi, Ananias Rarata, and Mrs Nessle Moi.
According to sworn statements, these thirty-plus individuals watched a four-legged, disc-shaped object approximately the size of 5 full moons lined up end to end. This unbelievable craft was hovering over the mission!
To their utter surprise, they saw four human-like figures that seemed to be performing a kind of task. Now and then one of the figures would disappear, only to reappear in a moment or two.A blue light would shine up from the craft at what seemed to be regular intervals. The witness watched the craft and its activities for a full forty-five minutes, until the shining ship rose into the sky, and disappeared at 7:30 P.M.
Glued to the sky, the witnesses would see several smaller objects appear at 8:30, and twenty minutes later, the first craft reappeared. This phenomenal occurrence would last an incredible four hours, until cloud cover obscured the view at 10:50. Father Gill prepared a full written report of this event, and 25 other observers signed the document.
This first sighting, a once in a lifetime occurrence, would incredibly be followed by another sighting the very next night. At 6:00 P.M., the larger object appeared again, with its occupants. It was shadowed by two of the smaller objects.
In William Gill’s own words: “On the large one, two of the figures seemed to be doing something near the center of the deck. They were occasionally bending over and raising their arms as though adjusting or “setting up” something. One figure seemed to be standing, looking down at us.”
(In a moment of anticipation, Gill raised his arms and waved to the figure.) “To our surprise the figure did the same. Ananias waved both arms over his head; then the two outside figures did the same. Ananias and myself began waving our arms, and all four seemed to wave back. There seemed no doubt that our movements were answered… “
Gill and Ananias continued to occasionally wave, and their waves were returned. Another witness, Eric Kodawara, waved a torch, and there were acknowledgments from the craft. Gill went inside to eat, but when he came back, the craft was still there, only farther away (smaller).
After a Church service, at 7:45, Gill again came outside to look for the craft, but clouds had appeared, and there was no sight of the object. The very next evening, the shining craft would make one more appearance.
Gill counted eight of them at 6:45. At 11:20, Gill heard a loud bang on the roof of the mission. Going outside to see what had happened, he spied four UFOs in a circle around the building. These four craft were extremely high in the sky. The roof was checked for damage the next morning, but none was found.
“Gill’s reports constitute the most remarkable testimony of intensive UFO activity ever reported to civilian investigators. They were unique because for the first time, credible witnesses had reported the presence of humanoid beings associated with UFOs.” NOTE: The above image is CGI.

I watched this video and I noticed that the object slowed down at times and even changed its shape. The dark object almost looks like a person as it moves across the sky. And as it was over the mountain top, I noticed that it seemed to pull something into itself. That happens at 30 seconds into the video and that why I said it changes shape. This UFO was headed to an alien base located below the mountain ridge, about 6km below the surface.

Sunday, March 14th at approx. 19:00 I stepped out of my snowcat to stretch, noticed object in the corner of my eye. Thought it was maybe a bird, but it was way too big, so I grabbed my phone and started to video the object. There was no sound coming from object so that eliminates a plane or helicopter. It was too windy for glider or paraglider. A significant storm was rolling in that night and the object maintained its path. I could kind of see a mist or aura around the object, especially in the video. It seemed like it would level out or turn 360 degrees back and forth and was moving as it was flying. As you can see, I was in a valley so if there was sound, I would have heard it. There were no lights but appeared to have some of aura and path. This video was taken just before sundown as the time had changed that morning. March 17th, days later, around 2100, I was in my snowcat at the highest point of the trails I groom when the speakers in the snowcat started to crackle and music started to mesh with itself. I was listening to a downloaded song on my iPhone since there was no service out there. It was a very calm night when suddenly, snow and wind abruptly surrounded my cat. This continued for about a minute and then went back to being calm again and music went back to normal. This could have been a coincidence, but I had a strange feeling.

As we were leaving from our night shift noticed long bright light crossing sky. It was super long and was traveling slower than a meteor and faster than a air plane took about 3 to 4 min to cross sky and it appeared to split. When we could look and see what looked like the tail of the two split objects the rear of the object was very bright sorta appeared to have like fire coming out the back
Back in 1996, I received a number of stories – some from retired, British military personnel – suggesting that if I wanted to find out what the British Government really knew about UFOs – and particularly so crashed UFOs – I would be wise to focus my attentions not so much on the work of the Ministry of Defense, but on that of the Home Office.
Although the Home Office is chiefly known for its work in the fields of counter-terrorism, immigration, and crime policy, there are indications that its work delves into far deeper, and much more mysterious, areas, too.
According to several of the accounts provided to me back in ’96, the Home Office oversaw the security surrounding a number of secret, underground bunkers located across the south and southwest of England.
They were built as fortified havens for senior military and government personnel, in the event of a nuclear strike on the UK by the Soviets during the Cold War. I was advised, however, that deep within two of the bunkers were stored the remains of a number of alien bodies – all preserved in cryogenic states.
Of course, there is nothing new about such controversial claims. There are numerous accounts – particularly within the United States – of retired military personnel supposedly having seen extraterrestrial corpses in “secret hangars” or in “classified vaults.” And, indeed, many people with an interest in Ufology will know of the rumors surrounding the supposed “Hangar 18″ and the tales of dead aliens at Area 51.

What makes the stories about the Home Office and UFOs so interesting and different, however, is the noted lack of attention they have received over the years. That’s not to say there isn’t an intriguing body of data available. Quite the contrary: there actually is an intriguing body of data on this matter. According to researcher and author Timothy Good, in his 1987 book, Above Top Secret:
“A close friend of mine whom I have known since 1952 witnessed the landing of an unidentified flying object in Derbyshire in September 1963, and subsequently came into contact with its operators. Four years afterwards two men with Home Office identification cards turned up at my friend’s flat and politely asked a number of questions which clearly indicated that they were familiar with aspects of the incident.”
Similarly, in 1982 Good interviewed an eye-opening interview with a retired police inspector, in an attempt to determine if the UFO issue was subject to the constraints of the British Government’s Official Secrets Act – a piece of legislation utilized to muzzle government employees when deemed necessary by officialdom. According to Good’s source: “What I can say to you, is that I know the subject itself was the subject of a Home Office directive.”
Further data that suggested a link between the world of the UFO and that of the Home Office came from the late Graham Birdsall of UFO Magazine, who informed me that he had spoken with one George Wild – a prison officer at Armley Prison in the English city of Leeds – on a highly controversial matter of a UFO nature.
Wild informed Birdsall that a “senior Home Office prison official” had once let it slip to him that on the first night of the famous series of UFO incidents at Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk, England in December 1980, high-level orders had arrived at the nearby High Point Prison advising staff to prepare for a possible evacuation of the inmates due to a matter of national security.
I also learned in 1996, from a now-retired UK government official, that the Home Office had extensive guidelines in place in the event that a space satellite decayed from its orbit and crashed on British soil.
“You could equally apply those guidelines to a crashed UFO,” he said, with a smile of the knowing kind. Acting on this information, in December 1996, I telephoned the Home Office and asked to be put through to their Press Office.
I explained the situation: I was interested to know what the Home Office’s response would be if a large, metallic object from space – such as a satellite – crashed to earth on the UK. I considered it wise not to mention UFOs, even though that was my primary area of interest.
I was transferred to a helpful man who informed me that the responsibility for monitoring satellite movements over the British Isles was predominantly the domain of the tracking station at RAF Fylingdales, Yorkshire.
If it appears there is a possibility, however remote, that a satellite in a decaying orbit might impact on the UK, Fylingdales had standing orders to keep the Ministry of Defense informed, who in turn were obliged to advise the Home Office of the unfolding situation. As the Press Officer explained to me:
“The Home Office has responsibility for emergency planning, which obviously isn’t specific, necessarily, to satellites. But the situation is they only really become a matter for the Home Office when they’ve landed, because that’s when the emergency services come into play.”
He continued: “For example, there was one recently – a Chinese satellite which came down. That was one we were kept well informed of and were aware of. We were advised of the expected time it was going to land and all that kind of stuff. We don’t really take much actual action; our side would be more the policy angle; ensuring that all the right contingency plans are in place.”
My next stop: RAF Fylingdales.
“You want the Space Information Officer,” I was advised by the switchboard operator at Fylingdales when I detailed my quest to her. A few moments later the SIO was on the line: “We track satellites all the time. When there are predictions for satellite decays – this is maintained by US and UK authorities – and if there is one which is potentially going to cause problems, the Ministry of Defense and the Home Office are the people who get involved.
“We would just track it and keep those people up to date with what was happening with the satellite at the time. The Home Office and the MoD do all the coordination. Accurate predictions as to where something is going to crash are very difficult: it depends exactly on what the satellite’s doing – if it’s rolling or if it’s got high drag in one part or another. It also depends on what angle it enters the upper end of the atmosphere.
“There are experts that are able to calculate to within an hour or so when it’s coming down. We can advise the Home Office and the MoD of the position of the satellite, how it’s moving, whether it’s speeding up, slowing down, or whether it’s changing its attitude, or whatever.”
In addition, and also in 1996, I received a newly-declassified Home Office directive of 1979 titled Home Office Circular No. ES 5/1979, Satellite Accidents. It dealt with Home Office guidelines for dealing with the possible recovery of stricken space vehicles on the British mainland. The document stated:
“It is for the Government to decide whether, and if so by what means, a public warning of danger from radioactivity should be given. In reaching that decision, the need to prevent unnecessary alarm would be carefully considered. Chief Officers should therefore ensure that nothing is done locally to anticipate a Government statement.
“When reports of suspected or actual locations have been received the police should take such steps as may be needed locally to prevent people entering areas which may be dangerous because of radioactive material. Some larger pieces of debris might have radiation fields of significance over distances of the order of 100 meters.”
The document then went on to illustrate the many and varied divisions within the British Government that had jurisdiction in the area of fallen spacecraft. As well as the Home Office, this included: the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment at Aldermaston; the National Radiological Protection Board; the Ministry of Defense; Chief Officers of Police and Chief Fire Officers in the UK; and representatives of the “NAIR Scheme” – the National Arrangements for Incidents Involving Radioactivity.
Clearly the directive – and the testimony of the staff at the Home Office and at RAF Fylingdales – was relative to the Home Office’s involvement in the recovery of crashed space vehicles of terrestrial origin.
But what of the Home Office’s link with objects of possible non-terrestrial origin? I have to admit that, although I have a number of stories on-file concerning alleged Home Office involvement in crashed UFO events in the UK, nothing concrete or definitive has ever surfaced. Nevertheless, where there is smoke there is often a degree of fire, too…

FBI releases document with detail of Alien bodies, spacecraft and planet

Numerous government around the world are slowly coping with the idea that the worldwide population has a right to know whether or not we are alone in the universe. In fact, the disclosure movement has never been as strong as it is today with countless Military officers, government officials, and astronauts speaking out about the existence of alien life and Alien spacecraft.
Among all of the governments on the planet, it is believed that the United States have a lot of disclosure to do. Presidential Candidate Hilary Clinton has stated that if she is elected President of the United States, she would disclose all alien related documents and get to the bottom of the UFO phenomenon.
Jon Podesta, who was President Barack Obama’s right man, and Chief of Staff under the Clinton administration tweeted not long ago that one of his biggest regrets of 2014 was his failure to “secure the disclosure of UFO files” and that “the time to pull the curtain back on this subject is long overdue. We have statements from the most credible sources, those in a position to know – about a fascinating phenomenon, the nature of which is yet to be determined.”
But despite serious attempts of disclosure, the government of the United States still maintains that they do not have knowledge of any information related to the Alien/UFO phenomenon.
However, many maintain that the reason why disclosure hasn’t happened yet isn’t because of the government. It’s very likely that such a subject might even go far beyond, extending into powerful corporations and a tight group of international elites.
Many governments around the globe have declassified a number of UFO-related documents which only proves that they have been extremely interested in the UFO phenomenon for years. However, not only have governments released classified information, agencies such as the FBI, NSA and CIA have also declassified some of their most secretive files on UFO’s and Alien life in the universe.

The declassified document was addressed to “certain scientists of distinction,” to“aeronautical and military authorities,” and to “a number of public officials.”
The declassified document is a letter sent to the director of FBI in Washington from their San Francisco office, detailing UFO’s and extraterrestrials.

Many things remain a mystery. While the above-mentioned documents give fascinating details about the visitations, it still leaves us with a umber of questions like: Is it possible that three are several races of aliens out there? Are they Physical or extra dimensional?

The board is set. The pieces are almost in motion. This week NASA provided the first shot of Ingenuity, a miniature Mars helicopter.
Here it’s seen stowed sideways, folded up and locked in place.The helicopter is nearly ready to make history with the first powered flight on another Planet.

The teams behind NASA’s Perseverance rover and Ingenuity helicopter have selected an airfield on Mars for the 4-pound (1.8 kilograms) chopper and are preparing to fly in the near future.
“Ingenuity’s test flights are expected to begin no earlier than the first week of April,” NASA officials wrote in a mission update on Wednesday (March 17). “The exact timing of the first flight will remain fluid as engineers work out details on the timeline for deployments and vehicle positioning of Perseverance and Ingenuity.”

During a press conference on Tuesday (March 23) at 1:30 p.m. EDT, NASA will provide an update on the Ingenuity flight plan (17:30 GMT). You can watch it live directly on NASA’s website.
Perseverance, which landed inside the Red Planet’s 28-mile-wide (45-kilometer) Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, still has ingenuity tucked away in its belly. Perseverance will deploy Ingenuity onto the red dirt and drive about 330 feet (100 meters) away once it arrives at the chosen airfield. According to mission team members, the six-wheeled rover will attempt to document the little chopper’s flights using its Mastcam-Z camera suite and two microphones.
Ingenuity is a technology demonstration designed to pave the way for future aerial exploration of Mars. It carries a high-resolution camera but no science instruments. NASA officials have stated that if Ingenuity’s flights are successful, future Red Planet missions may include helicopters that serve as scouts for rovers and/or gather data on their own.
