Elon Musk Wants to Change How (and Where) Humans Live

Making spaceships and electric supercars isn’t enough for Elon Musk. Meghan Daum meets the entrepreneur who wants to save the world.

The name sounds like a men’s cologne. Or a type of ox. It sounds possibly made up. But then, so much about Elon Musk seems the creation of a fiction writer—and not necessarily one committed to realism. At 44, Musk is both superstar entrepreneur and mad scientist. Sixteen years after cofounding a company called X.com that would, following a merger, go on to become PayPal, he’s launched the electric carmaker Tesla Motors and the aerospace manufacturer SpaceX, which are among the most closely watched—some would say obsessed-over—companies in the world. He has been compared to the Christian Grey character in Fifty Shades of Grey, though not as often as he’s been called “the real Tony Stark,” referring to the playboy tech entrepreneur whose alter ego, Iron Man, rescues the universe from various manifestations of evil.

The Iron Man comparison is, strangely, as apt as it is hyperbolic, since Musk has the boyish air of a nascent superhero and says his ultimate aim is to save humanity from what he sees as its eventual and unavoidable demise—from any number of causes, carbon consumption high among them. (As it happens, he met with Robert Downey, Jr., to discuss the Tony Stark role, and his factory doubled as the villain’s hideaway in Iron Man 2.) To this end he’s building his own rockets, envisioning a future in which we colonize Mars, funding research aimed at keeping artificial intelligence beneficial to humanity, and making lithium-ion electric batteries that might, one day, put the internal-combustion engine out to pasture.

There are signs that he’s succeeding. Despite its average price tag of $100,000 and the inherent complications of owning an electric vehicle, Tesla’s Model S is now among the best-selling luxury sedans in North America (a sport-utility vehicle called the Model X has been breathlessly awaited for years and will be introduced September 28th). Musk’s detailed concept for a high-speed transportation system dubbed the Hyperloop, which could conceivably move passengers between Los Angeles and San Francisco in 30 minutes, has become a source of great public anticipation and fascination—even though it remains largely theoretical at this point. A very real energy-service company called SolarCity, which Musk helped get off the ground and for which he serves as chairman, has been described as a possible existential threat to big utility companies.

Of all his ventures, though, it’s SpaceX, which Musk founded because he was frustrated with the pace and cost of government-sponsored space exploration, that feels the grandest and, by definition, the most otherworldly. Even with a string of setbacks (most recently the doomed launch of the Falcon 9 cargo rocket, which blew apart shortly after takeoff last June—on Musk’s forty-fourth birthday, no less), the company seems poised to grow into a major force in the aerospace industry. This is thanks largely to a pair of contracts with NASA totaling up to $5.7 billion to deliver cargo (which SpaceX has done seven times) and eventually crew members to the International Space Station.

“From a financial perspective, SpaceX is probably the most secure of his companies,” says New York Times business writer and longtime Musk observer Andrew Ross Sorkin. “And that is because the government is handing over real hard cash for it to do what it does. Even if it turned out to be a company that just worked for the government, could it be the next Lockheed Martin? It’s not out of the realm of possibility.”

I meet Musk in his office pod in the nearly 500,000-square-foot, white slab of a building in Hawthorne, California, that houses SpaceX’s headquarters and factory. Dwarfed only by the looming presence of nearby LAX airport, the facility is a paean to the discipline required to maintain the clean lines of minimalism while also running a mega-scale manufacturing operation. The factory floor is a gleaming, grinding explosion of moving pieces. Work happens around the clock, with robots zinging tirelessly back and forth on assembly lines, 3-D printers carving out metal sections for rocket engines, and engineers sitting at monitors in a mission-control room preparing for upcoming launches. There are 3,500 employees here and a discernible air of secrecy. No photos are allowed. Outside in the lobby, every time a visitor or employee presses through the glass doors, a watchful janitor steps in to wipe away any print marks.

Musk’s physical presence is a bit like the building’s—blocky and imposing, tidy without being fussy. Well over six feet tall, he’s broad in the shoulders, giant in the hands, and appears not just clean shaven but thoroughly scrubbed. He’s dressed in jeans and a black T-shirt. His desk, which is made of a polished aerospace-grade aluminum, is immaculate and uncluttered save for photos of his five sons from his first marriage, to Justine Musk—eleven-year-old twins and nine-year-old triplets. (His current wife is the English actress Talulah Riley.)

“Hopefully when they grow up we’ll be in the process of becoming a multiplanet civilization,” he says of his boys. “Hopefully we’ll have a small base on Mars. . . . Going there slowly would take six months. I think we can shorten that journey to three.”

This is how Musk talks—like a science-fiction writer, or at least the science-fiction fan he was as a kid and remains today (current reading: the late Scottish writer Iain M. Banks). Friends and observers often talk about him operating on a massive scale, as though his life’s perimeter exceeds normal human bounds.

“He is the most impressive out-of-the-box thinker I know,” says the writer Walter Isaacson, president of the Aspen Institute. “There’s no shortage of people with a vision for the future,” adds Bill Gates. “What makes Elon exceptional is his ability to make his come true.”

The outsize visions Musk entertains make an odd juxtaposition with his manner, which is soft-spoken, precise, and, above all,considered. Though he sometimes comes across as not entirely comfortable in his own skin—he fidgets when not engaged in deeply concentrated work—he appears to be remarkably at ease with silence and will take long pauses to think before he speaks.

The pauses are especially long when the conversation turns to his private life. His marriage to Riley, whom he wed in 2010, divorced in 2012, and remarried in 2013, almost came to an end yet again when the couple filed for divorce last New Year’s Eve. But they reunited over the summer, just days before the divorce was finalized. “Right under the wire,” Riley says when I speak to her. “We told the lawyers we’d changed our minds. It was the same lawyers we’ve had all along, so I think they’re used to us by now.”

A recently published biography by tech writer Ashlee Vance, which Musk participated in reluctantly and minimally, has drawn attention for portraying Musk as Asperger’s-ish in his interpersonal dealings (on the subject of dating, Vance wrote that Musk asked him, “How much time does a woman want a week? Maybe ten hours?”) and occasionally tyrannical as a boss. One ex-employee claimed Musk upbraided him in an email for missing work in order to attend the birth of his child. Musk tells me he did no such thing and that the employee has never been able to produce the alleged email.

“If anything, I’ve always been incredibly supportive of people having children,” Musk tells me. “Before the companies grew so large, I actually personally wrote notes of congratulations to employees who had babies.” Musk also takes issue with the book’s depiction of the way his former assistant left the company—“It seems I summarily fired her after twelve years, and that simply is not true”—and is in the process of composing a response, possibly for The Huffington Post, setting the record straight.

Amid the chatter around the biography, Musk’s first wife, Justine, posted an observation to the Web forum Quora that quickly went viral: “Extreme success results from an extreme personality and comes at the cost of many other things.” There was little doubt about whom she was writing, and the media buzzed with speculation into Musk’s personal affairs. But Musk has no quarrel with her basic premise. “You’re not going to create revolutionary cars or rockets on 40 hours a week,” he tells me. “It just won’t work. Colonizing Mars isn’t going to happen on 40 hours a week.”

That Musk has managed to parlay a tableau of boyhood fantasies—cars, rockets, the idea of life on other planets—into a billion-dollar enterprise is, of course, integral to his mystique. So is the fact that in 2008, when both companies were in free fall during the stock-market crisis and auto bailout, he shocked investors and the tech world by pouring his entire personal savings into rescuing Tesla. Despite a firm rooting in the Silicon Valley ecosystem—Tesla’s factory is in Fremont, California, and Musk spends two to three days a week in the Bay Area—his interests occupy a notably different sphere from the market-driven preoccupations of many tech entrepreneurs.

“He gets tagged as the industrialist,” says SpaceX COO Gwynne Shotwell, who’s been Musk’s right-hand woman at the company nearly since its inception. “But he never starts out saying, ‘I want to make a billion dollars.’ He says, ‘We have to fix the fossil-fuel industry.’ He is all about making a world—and not necessarilythe world—better for humans.”

As with most comic book–hero origin stories, Musk’s childhood was shadowed in some measure of darkness. Growing up in apartheid-era South Africa, he was profoundly intelligent and ambitious—at age fifteen, he started an arcade business with his brother and cousin; they got it all the way to the city zoning phase before their parents found out and pulled the plug—but also socially awkward at school. He had a terrible time with bullies and was once beaten up so badly that he was taken to the hospital.

“South Africa was quite a violent place,” he says. “There was a level of violence growing up that wouldn’t be tolerated in any American school. It was like Lord of the Flies. There were a couple of gangs that were pretty evil, and they picked their victims and I was one of them. I think part of what set them off was that I ended up sticking up for this one kid who they were relentless on. And that made me a target.”

His parents divorced when he was nine, and Musk and his brother, Kimbal, eventually went to live with their father, Errol, an engineer. (His sister, Tosca, remained with their mother.) Though Kimbal told Vance that their father gave them “a very emotionally challenging upbringing,” the Musks keep discussions about Errol to a minimum.

“Everyone has tough parents,” Kimbal tells me from his home in Boulder. “The public seems interested in our experience with our father, but people should let it go. We’ve let it go. We’ve gotten past it.”

Asked what Elon was like as a child, his mother, Maye Musk, says only that he was “happy” and “a normal boy with his siblings and cousins.”

Musk himself tells a different story, saying that he was in an “existential crisis” from roughly the ages of eleven to fifteen, struggling with “What’s the point of it all?” kinds of questions. “I read a lot of books, and it didn’t sound like anything really had the answer to what’s the meaning of life,” Musk says. “And then it’s like, ‘Is it all meaningless?’ I was reading Schopenhauer and Nietzsche, and it was terrible. No one should read them. It’s too depressing. They were not happy people.”

The answer eventually came (as it does for many disaffected teenage boys, even those not reading Nietzsche) through the cult 1979 novel The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams, a writer known, perhaps not coincidentally, for his interest in both environmental conservation and fast cars.

“I thought Adams was actually quite good because he was making the point that the question is the real difficulty,” says Musk. “The universe is essentially the answer, so what’s the question? As we strive for enlightenment, we better understand what questions to ask about the nature of the universe. It seems like there’s a fundamental good in that. So that seemed like a good way to apply my efforts­—to strive for greater enlightenment.”

In 1989, Musk left South Africa for Canada, where he attended Queen’s University in Ontario before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied economics and physics. At Penn he roomed with Adeo Ressi, now also a highly successful entrepreneur and investor. Eager to escape their barracks-like student housing, they rented a large house and, in order to pay the rent, turned it into a nightclub that attracted as many as 1,000 patrons. Ressi says that although Musk was already a capable businessman, his interest in the parties themselves was often negligible.

“There were some nights where I’d be like, ‘Where’s Elon?’ and I’d go up to his room and pound on the door and he’s in there alone playing a video game,” Ressi recalls. “And I’m like, ‘There are 500 people out there who need our attention!’ I’m not even sure that he was aware that the party was going on.”

After Penn, Musk entered a Ph.D. program at Stanford in applied physics but dropped out after two days to join his brother in starting Zip2, the online city directory whose proceeds would beget X.com, which in turn would beget him the rest of his life.

But unlike Christian Grey, who lets it be known to his bonny submissive that he earns around $1 million a day (hearing this, Musk asks, “That’s all?” and collapses into a protracted fit of laughter, saying, “I’m joking! I’m joking! That was a joke!”), Musk has a relationship to money that is, like many of his relationships, notably aloof. When he arrived in Silicon Valley in 1995, he says, he was more interested in “figuring out how to be part of building the Internet” than in getting rich. Besides, no one was getting rich yet.

“I think he always just assumed the money would come,” says Justine Musk, whom he met during his stint at Queen’s University and married in 2000 and who is, fittingly, not your average ex-wife of a mogul. A novelist and prolific blogger, she speaks of Musk with equal measures of frankness and fondness, calling him “not the most demonstrative person” and “certainly not a normal father” but a committed parent who’s deeply interested in his kids. “He’s not taking them to soccer games,” she says. “He’s taking them to Shanghai. Even though there are all of these advantages and he has this very unusual lifestyle, I think they see what he does for a living and how difficult it is.”

During their early courtship, Justine recalls, “the brilliance was obvious,” but Musk’s personality bore traces of the social obtuseness that had dogged him in childhood. She says he had a habit of calling her and letting the phone ring endlessly if she didn’t answer. Then he’d hang up and call right back. Every Valentine’s Day he sent her red roses with a note that read, “I like you.”

“People have always referred to him as robotic,” Justine says. “My best friend in college would always comment about how he didn’t really know how to hug. She’d try to hug him goodbye and he’d just kind of stand there. He’s since learned to be a better hugger.”

A set of twins and a set of triplets—all boys, no less—is in many ways a quintessentially Elon Musk kind of brood. But it was tragedy that shaped the family’s trajectory. The Musks’ first baby, a boy named Nevada, died at ten weeks of a SIDS-related incident. After he spent three days on life support, the Musks made the decision to turn off the machines. Devastated yet determined to get pregnant again as quickly as possible, Justine sought fertility treatments that eventually resulted in the twins. She and Elon were thrilled.

“After that we were like, ‘Yes, let’s do it again!’ ” Justine says. “We didn’t expect to get triplets. That was our attempt to get one girl. It didn’t work that way. . . . But there are a lot of boys in his family. I think he’s a Y-chromosome kind of guy.”

When Musk became less than satisfied with the schools his sons were attending, he created a new one for them last year. With an enrollment of fifteen elementary-age kids, the school, called Ad Astra (“to the stars”), has three teachers and is situated in a house he purchased a few years ago.

“It has all these funny nooks and crannies and cute cupboards,” says Musk. “It also feels quite like a little schoolhouse on the prairie—except in Bel-Air on a golf course.”

Though none of his kids are reading Schopenhauer—“I’d never introduce anyone to Schopenhauer!”—Musk says one of the nine-year-olds is reading books of poetry as well as Flannery O’Connor and Charles Dickens. He’s about to take them camping for the weekend, he tells me in a slightly weary voice, admitting he’d never go camping of his own volition. “I do it because I think they should have occasional arduous things. They have to cook and clean up: camping things.”

A week later, Musk is in Silicon Valley, where he’s just addressed Tesla’s shareholders at the annual meeting. The shareholders, not all of whom actually own the vehicles, represent a cross section of well-heeled, progressive types. The mood in the room is palpably earnest. He takes a question from a young man identifying himself as a tenth-grader who, “due to some pretty fortunate investments,” has been able to purchase a Tesla. His question has to do with autopilot software the company is currently testing and whether it will effectively turn the car into a self-driving vehicle so that passengers can relax. The boy’s precociousness produces a titter from the audience, but Musk answers the question as though he were talking to any adult. He explains that the autopilot isn’t designed to be used without human oversight, at least not yet.

“Several years from now,” he says, “there will be a fail operational autopilot with redundant sensors and everything that’s needed for someone to actually literally go to sleep and wake up at their destination.”
Next question.

“I just treat all questions equally,” Musk says a few hours later. He’s in a private dining room in the restaurant of a luxury golf resort in Menlo Park. He orders a cappuccino and an enormous spread of food—flatbreads, cheeses, tuna ceviche. I carefully broach the subject of his recent romantic history with Riley, whom he first met on a trip in London in 2008, noting that he was wearing a wedding band at the shareholders’ meeting, though he didn’t have it on when we met last week, nor does he have it on now. He tells me he tends to fidget, so he puts it in his pocket so he doesn’t lose it.

I ask if I can see it and he takes it out of his pocket and hands it to me for inspection. It’s a simple titanium band, practically weightless. This is when he reveals to me for the first time that he and Riley are not officially divorced yet and, in fact, are kind of back together. He then puts the ring back in his pocket.

“I’m the flighty one; I’m the one who does all the leaving and divorcing,” Riley says when I call her later. “But we are now totally solidly together.”

All the drama aside, Riley may in fact be the perfect partner for Musk. They plan to have kids, she says, but she’s also prepared to let her husband go to Mars someday if he needs to. It’s a trip that would likely require being gone for two years at a minimum.

“If Elon gets everything up and running, I can’t imagine him not going,” she tells me. “We joke around the house all the time about who’s going to Mars first and who will take care of the kids while the other person is gone. I kind of jestingly say, ‘No, you can’t go,’ but this is his life’s work. I wouldn’t want to stop him.”

As far as Musk is concerned, this decision isn’t that far off on the horizon.

“I hope we’ll be able to send the first people to Mars in about ten years,” he says.

The first settlers, he explains, would be scientists and engineers building some kind of pressurized dome. Terraforming, or making the planet’s surface and climate inhabitable by humans, would be the next step, though it could take centuries.

“You can only go there every two years because the orbital synchronization of Earth and Mars is about every two years,” he says. “But I think it would be an interesting way for the civilization to develop. People would meet each other and be like, ‘What orbital synchronization did you arrive on?’ ”

It’s not a bad way to start a conversation.

The CIA Confirms There’s Extraterrestrial Activity on Our Planet

A wave of recently declassified UFO files and statements of high rank officials are slowly turning the UFO phenomenon into reality.

Believing that we are the only civilization in the physical Universe – which scientifically speaking is infinite – shows not only an immense ego, but also an unfathomable ignorance. But what happens when high rank officials

On December 2012, the Russian prime-minister Dimitri Medvedev gave a live interview aired simultaneously on five television channels. After that, the Russian ex-president revealed to a journalist that every leader of the Kremlin is handed two folders with classified information regarding the visit of extraterrestrial beings.

At that time, Medvedev’s statement was a worldwide premiere, since it was the first time when a high level official publicly acknowledged the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations during the presidential mandate.

A riveting news article was published in 1980 in the “Sputnik” magazine about the perceptions and experiences of UFOs. This article contains reports from ten Soviet and American astronauts. Only one of these astronauts refused the possibility of UFOs getting in and out of our galaxy.

Ievgheni Krunov declared that it’s actually impossible to deny the presence of UFOs, and we should admit that these are more than simple optical illusions, even some of their characteristics like the rapid change of flight course at a 90 degrees angle offers us a lot of food for thought.

Astronaut Ghenadi Strekalov mentioned that he witnessed numerous strange and inexplicable phenomena, but hesitates to classify these events in any way. Still, he described a phenomenon observed on September 28 1980, during his day shift on the Mir space station: a flying sphere above the Earth, at an altitude of 20-30 km, around Newfoundland. The atmosphere was clear and the visibility was perfect, so he could watch for about 10 seconds how the sphere was shifting beautiful vivid colors, and afterwards disappearing almost instantly.

Strekalov remembered that the UFO had a perfect oval shape. He claimed that he reported the event to the Mission Control Center, but it did not classify as a UFO, concluding that he must be more precautious in the relation with his superiors.

According to publicly released documents, in the year of 1952 alone have been checked and confirmed over 100 UFO phenomena with no logical explanation, that were registered and labeled in the CIA archives as “inexplicable”.

“Almost 100 believable confessions remain inexplicable at the moment. However, the CIA monitoring will continue and no reports will be made public.”, the report notes.

To the disappointment of ufologists around the world, the declassification of those 10 documents coincides with the relaunch of the “X Files” series and apparently those documents do not contain any information regarding crashed UFOs, encounters or kidnappings.

According to the CIA spokesman, the organization believes that the public will find the information extremely fascinating:

“We have decided to release to publicity a few files that even the most skeptical individuals will find appealing. Five of these files are fit for “X Files” agent Fox Mulder, but the other 5 files are perfect for his skeptical partner, agent Dana Scully.”

Conspiracy theorists believe that CIA’s decision to make these documents public does not coincide with the relaunch of the new X Files series, but rather are an attempt to warm-up the audience for later disclosures.

“Apparently, the CIA used the rebirth of the X Files franchise to remind the people that the agency has agents investigating these cases.”, declares Stephen Basset, executive director of Paradigm Research Group, an organization that militates at the White House in order for the government of the United States to admit that aliens are real.

If the world will eventually accept the UFO reality we are yet to find out, but hopefully it won’t take long until our governments will spill the beans about the existence of extraterrestrials.

The man who chases aliens on ‘America’s paranormal highway’

The rancher called Chuck Zukowski in a panic.

“I think it’s happening again,” the farmer named Miller said nervously on Aug. 8, 2011.

“I’ll be right there,” Zukowski reassured him.

The 58-year-old alien investigator threw on his tactical vest, jumped into his black Ford truck and sped over to Miller’s farm two hours away in Trinidad, Colo.

The spooked cattleman greeted Zukowski with a solemn stare and pointed toward the carcass of a cow plopped in the dirt.

The mutilated red angus was missing its ears, tongue and genitals, similar to the previous two incidents at Miller’s ranch.

Each body part was dissected in a clinical way, leaving cauterized surgical wounds, but the earth surrounding it was left completely undisturbed.

Zukowski had no doubt that this was the work of aliens. And they were once again operating on the 37th parallel.

“I started to realize the cattle mutilations, UFO sightings and major events like Area 51 all lined up,” Zukowski said, referring to the 37th degree of latitude, which forms the borders between Utah and Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico, and Kansas and Oklahoma.

The true believer had investigated more than 1,000 paranormal incidents over 30 years — and 200 of them landed on the 37th parallel.

“It’s America’s paranormal highway,” the self-described “UFO nut” proclaimed.

Zukowski believes the aliens have a predilection for places with a proximity to underground water and a high level of hydrogen, which they use for energy.

He became fascinated with ETs as a kid, but began to get serious about his “research” in the late 1980s.

On weekends, he’d pile his three kids and his wife, Tammy, 56, into a beat-up RV to go UFO hunting. Like the “Ghostbusters,” Zukowski is always fully strapped for action.

“I never go anywhere without a tactical vest, a gun, a full-spectrum camera, a handheld metal detector, binoculars, a range finder and glass tubes for samples,” boasted Zukowski, who also works as a microchip designer.

When he moved his family out to Colorado Springs in 1998, he latched onto the phenomenon of mutilated animals.

“They all look as if someone has cut them up with a surgical knife,” he said.

Zukowski sharpened his investigative skills while working for the El Paso County, Colo., Sheriff’s Department, earning him the nickname “Mulder of El Paso,” after the “X-Files” character Fox Mulder.

But eight years later, he was booted from the squad for his paranormal leanings.

“They thought it hurt the integrity of the department and were embarrassed,” he said.

Not so for writer Ben Mezrich, whose book “The Accidental Billionaires” was adapted into the movie “The Social Network.”

When Mezrich caught wind of Zukowski’s quest “to find the truth,” he flew to Colorado to meet the subject of his forthcoming book “The 37th Parallel: The Secret Truth Behind America’s UFO Highway” (Atria Books), out Friday. The movie rights have been snapped up by New Line Cinema.

“He swept me up from the airport, gave me a bulletproof vest and a gun and said, ‘Let’s go investigate UFOs!’ ” Mezrich said of his first encounter with Zukowski. “I was blown away by his obsession.”

Lots of people ridicule UFO researchers, but Mezrich was infatuated with Zukowski’s commitment to finding aliens.

For the following six months, Mezrich dove head-first into Zukowski’s theory.

“Over the course of my research, I’ve determined it’s incredibly likely that we have been visited by aliens at least once,” he said.

1. Area 51 — Lincoln County, Nev. (37.6150857, -115.8593802)

This US Air Force facility about 90 miles north of Las Vegas has been shrouded in mystery since the late 1940s. UFO investigators believe alien remains and spacecraft are kept at Area 51 — including a wrecked spacecraft and alien remains supposedly found in 1947 in Roswell, NM. Chuck Zukowski got his first look at Area 51 in 1995, when he hired a guide to take him to Tikaboo Peak. From there, he could view Area 51 from 20 miles away. During his visit, he snapped a photo of what he believes was a flying saucer. “I was ecstatic,” he said.

2. Dulce underground base — Dulce, NM (36.939465, -107.000368)

Many believe an underground military and alien base exists under the small New Mexican town. Since 1979, a number of people have come forward claiming to have worked at the facility. One released a bundle of documents — known as “The Dulce Papers” — purporting to contain details about the base. Numerous area residents have reported seeing alien spacecraft. Zukowski has visited Dulce several times over the last decade, and has spoken with members of the Jicarilla Apache Nation about their experiences with aliens. “It doesn’t matter who you speak with — everyone agrees there is an underground base nearby,” Zukowski said.

3. Taos hum — Taos, NM (36.414099, -105.572145)

A mysterious humming noise is said to have plagued the town of Taos since the early 1990s. Zukowski is among those who believe the hum comes from construction of an underground human and alien base. Residents find the noise annoying. Some claim it causes dizziness, insomnia, sleep disturbance and headaches. Researchers determined that about 2 percent of the population in Taos were “hearers.” However, there has been no evidence to prove that the humming really exists. Zukowski visited the town in 1996, but he and his family were unable to hear the hum. “Even though we didn’t hear it, I was able to speak with a few residents who did,” he said.

4. Miller mutilation — Trinidad, Colo. (37.16940, -104.2110)

On Aug. 8, 2011, Zukowski was called to the Miller ranch to investigate the grisly mutilation of a 5-year-old cow. The cow was missing its udder and teats, tongue and left ear and had oval-shaped holes between its forelegs and rear. The dirt surrounding the animal seemed undisturbed and there were no footprints to be found, according to Zukowski. “What was particularly odd about this one was when I came back a few weeks later, I noticed the bottom ribs were cracked. The only explanation is that it was dropped on the ground from a high distance,” he said. The Las Animas County sheriff investigated the death, but was unable to determine a cause.

5. Sanchez mutilation — San Luis, Colo. (37.07373, -105.27406)

Zukowski investigated a spine-tingling mutilation on Manuel Sanchez’s ranch on Nov. 17, 2009. A 5-month-old calf had its guts completely hollowed out, its legs broken and bent backwards, and its body twisted like a corkscrew. It was the fourth calf on Sanchez’s ranch viciously mutilated over the previous three weeks. “The rancher was so distraught, that he took the rest of his calves to auction,” Zukowski said. He figured selling them was better than losing more to mutilation.

6. Garren mutilation — Walsenburg, Colo. (37.6242, -104.7803)
On March 22, 2009, rancher Jim Garren found his 2-year-old chocolate brown cow with its udder sliced off. Garren immediately called Zukowski to investigate the disturbing incident; he found no blood in the area and the ground untouched. “I don’t see how any human could have possibly done this,” Garren told Zukowski. “It looks to like she just laid down and died.”

7. UFO sighting — Wichita, Kan. (37.6872, -97.3301)

An anonymous Wichita resident claimed to see a UFO “radiating its own light” on May, 29, 2011. “I saw a light in the sky. The only way I can describe it is the light was different from a star,” the man told the National UFO Reporting Center. He spotted the peculiar light around 2 a.m. while he was outside smoking a cigarette a few miles from McConnell Air Force Base. “I studied it for about 10 minutes and noticed it was oscillating slightly and making very small, rapid movements,” he continued.

8. Piedmont UFO phenomenon — Piedmont, Mo. (37.1558012, -90.6957447)

Since February 1973, hundreds of Piedmont residents have reported seeing flying objects and mysterious lights in the sky. A local high school basketball team supposedly witnessed a bright shaft of light beaming down from the atmosphere and noticed an object hovering in the distance. As the sightings continued, residents started to gather at a nearby landfill to watch the lights together, according to Zukowski. Zukowski has visited the area numerous times and has talked to locals about what they saw. “The most recent time I was there, I talked to two women who actually saw the craft,” he said.

9. UFO crash and retrieval — Cape Girardeau, Mo. (37.3152755, -89.5164931)

A Baptist minister was called to an apparent plane crash in 1941 to perform last rites for the deceased. But at the crash scene, the minister supposedly didn’t see humans at all. Instead, he saw a disc-shaped object surrounded by tiny gray people. After the minister prayed for them, he was escorted away by the FBI. Zukowski believes he has discovered the crash site, which is now a gravel pit. “The gravel pit had destroyed any topography evidence of a crash,” he said.

10. Mantell UFO incident — Owensboro, Ky. (37.7737, -87.111626)

Capt. Thomas Mantell was pilot for the Kentucky National Guard in 1948 when he received orders to fly after an unusual aerial object. The 25-year-old pilot took off after the craft in a P-51 Mustang fighter plane. Supposedly he crashed and died as he pursued the UFO. Believers say Mantell reported by radio that he could see tiny creatures in the mysterious aircraft. The Air Force announced that his death was a result of oxygen deprivation and that he was chasing after the planet Venus. Zukowski believes the announcement was a government attempt to “keep real information from the public.”

11. UFO sighting — Roanoke, Va. (37.247656, -80.002376)

On Dec. 10, 2010, a Roanoke resident reported seeing a disc-shaped orb zipping through the clouds. The witness was seeking a shortcut down a country road that turned out to be a dead end. As the car retraced the route, its passenger saw the mysterious aircraft “moving westward at a very fast pace.” The object also gave off a “light blue aura and moved up and down without sound,” the report to the National UFO Reporting Center reads.

RUIMTEVAART De Europese ruimterobot Philae, waarmee alle contact verloren was na diens turbulente landing in november 2014 op de komeet Tchouri, is door een hogeresolutiecamera van de ruimtesonde Rosetta gelokaliseerd. Dat heeft het Europese Ruimtevaartagentschap ESA vandaag meegedeeld.

De kleine robot had sinds de zomer van 2015 niets meer van zich laten horen. Sinds 27 juli had Rosetta geen pogingen meer ondernomen om weer met Philae in contact te komen.

Philae werd bijna twee jaar geleden door Rosetta op de komeet gedropt. Nog geen zestig uur na de landing viel de landingsrobot stil omdat de batterij leeg was.

De komeetlander stuurde in 2014 korte tijd foto's en data over zijn locatie. Ook vorig jaar gebeurde dat, maar de onderzoekers konden aan de hand daarvan niet achterhalen waar de robot zich precies bevond. Vandaag verscheen Philae ineens voor de camera van Rosetta, die in een baan rond komeet 67P Tchouri zweeft. "We zijn zo blij dat we Philae eindelijk hebben gevonden", zegt een onderzoeker van ESA. De komeetlander is net op tijd gevonden: over een maand wordt ruimtevaartsonde Rosetta buiten dienst gesteld.

Philae was de eerste robot in de geschiedenis die een gecontroleerde landing uitvoerde op een komeet. De bedoeling was dat de lander monsters uit de bodem zou nemen. Maar de batterij was al snel na de landing leeg. De robot is alleen in de zomer van 2015 nog twee keer kort aan geweest.

Onherstelbaar beschadigd
De komeetlander is onherstelbaar beschadigd en keert niet meer terug naar de aarde. De robot bleek nog maar twee van de drie poten te hebben. Ook andere onderdelen zijn kapot gegaan door de extreem lage temperaturen in de ruimte.

Toch zijn de onderzoekers blij dat ze weten wat er met Philae is gebeurd. Nu ze weten waar de komeetlander ligt, kunnen ze de data en foto's die de robot tijdens zijn korte dienstverband stuurde beter in kaart brengen.

Mysterieuze vuurbal gespot aan hemel in Oregon - HLN.be

Ruim 130 mensen hebben vrijdagavond gemeld dat ze een enorme vuurbal hadden gezien aan de nachtelijke hemel in Oregon en Washington, aan de westkust van de Verenigde Staten. Het licht verscheen even voor middernacht en was een tiental seconden te zien, terwijl het van west naar oost schoot.

De waarnemingen kwamen uit het gebied tussen Port Angeles, Washington in het noorden en Medford, Oregon in het zuiden. Maar zelfs in Canada werd de mysterieuze vuurbal gespot. De meeste waarnemingen werden gedaan aan de kust van Oregon en in de Willamette Valley. 

Meteoor
Het is nog niet duidelijk of het om een meteoor gaat of resten van ruimtetuigen. "De vuurbal was heel fel en bewoog vrij snel. Hij had een helder witte tot blauwe kleur en leek uiteen te vallen in kleinere stukken", aldus Jim Todd, directeur van de afdeling ruimtevaart van het Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. "Als er nog stukken op de aarde terecht zijn gekomen, moet dat in de Rocky Mountains geweest zijn."

Alien megastructure mystery deepens for Tabby’s Star (KIC 8462852)

In 2011 and 2013 the light shining from a distant star dropped by an unprecedented 20 percent.

Some say the star’s brightness has been gradually dimming over the last century. Other suggest large comets, huge dust cloud or a massive ‘alien megastructure’ could be blocking the light.

 

There is something very, very big blocking Star KIC 8462852, also known as ‘Tabby’s Star’, from Earth’s view. But nobody knows what.

 

 

KIC 8463852 is located in the Cygnus constellation, about 1,480 light years from Earth.

 

Some say the star’s brightness has been gradually dimming over the last century. Others suggest that large comets or a huge dust cloud could be blocking the light. A number of people think a massive ‘alien megastructure’ is to blame.

 

New study, new questions

 

Results from a new study that observed Tabby’s Star over four years confirmed that the star has dimmed continuously. But this new study also reveals some new mysteries.

 

Astronomers Ben Montet and Joshua Simon recorded a slight decrease in light from the star at first before a dramatic plummet of 2.5 percent in just 200 days – after which the drop in light returned to a steady fade.

 

And astronomers couldn’t believe their eyes: The part that really surprised me was just how rapid and non-linear it was. We spent a long time trying to convince ourselves this wasn’t real. We just weren’t able to.

 

Tabby’s star continues to defy easy explanation.

 

These intriguing new findings suggest that none of the considered phenomena can alone explain the observations. Of course, the star doesn’t have to abide by our hope for a single explanation. In the end, figuring out this puzzle may require accounting for a combination of effects.

Witness Claims UFOs Performed Multiple Late Night Reconnaissance Flights Over A City In Arizona

Orb-shaped bright light UFOs were spotted in the sky conducting multiple low-altitude flights. The incident reportedly took place over Chandler City in Maricopa County, Arizona in a three-hour period on the evening of August 19-20, 2016.

The unnamed witness reported the sighting to Mutual UFO Network, which filed it as Case 78571. He believes that the spaceships of alien origin may have performed five separate reconnaissance flights over the city on the evening of August 19 and early hours of August 20. The two UFOs may have been extraterrestrials as they were not something he had ever witnessed.

The witness recorded his encounter and submitted a report to MUFON along with three separate videos showing strange aerial activity in the sky.

The first sighting took place at around 9:15 p.m. PST, northeast direction. He was then with friends during the sighting that lasted approximately seven minutes. Together with friends, he watched the UFO hovered in the night sky very brightly.

As they tried to get abetter position to see what was just transpired, they noticed two smaller lights below the larger UFO.

The strange UFO lights hovered on the same spot for few minutes before one of the smaller objects disappeared. The other smaller UFO also vanished moments later, leaving only the unidentified flying object with a large bright light in the sky.

The remaining lone UFO then started to drift in the sky towards west until it also vanished, according to the reporting witness.

Because they were apparently overwhelmed on their first sighting, it did not come to their mind to record it on video.

They saw the same UFO about an hour later and this time, the witness managed to record two videos of the sighting that lasted approximately five minutes, but, as the witness admitted, they were of poor quality.

Fortunately, the witness was able to record a better video on the third sighting. The third clip shows an airplane flying with blinking navigational lights at first and then the mysterious UFO becomes visible. The strange object appears to fly at a lower altitude than the plane as it moves slowly westward.

As he tried to zoom in the object, the orb UFO changed into a doughnut-shaped circle. After the UFO had disappeared, it reappeared again after 30 minutes and accompanied this time by another UFO. But, he missed recording the sighting on video and did not give any reason in his report.

Jupiter's Wild North Pole, Southern Auroras Photographed for 1st Time

NASA's Juno spacecraft has beamed home the first-ever photos of Jupiter's north pole, and scientists can hardly believe their eyes.

Juno captured the images on Aug. 27, when the probe skimmed just 2,600 miles (4,200 kilometers) above Jupiter's cloud tops during the first of three dozen close flybys of the solar system's largest planet.

"First glimpse of Jupiter's north pole, and it looks like nothing we have seen or imagined before," Juno principal investigator Scott Bolton, of the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, said in a statement. [Photos: NASA's Juno Mission to Jupiter]

"It's bluer in color up there than other parts of the planet, and there are a lot of storms," Bolton added. "There is no sign of the latitudinal bands or zone and belts that we are used to; this image is hardly recognizable as Jupiter. We're seeing signs that the clouds have shadows, possibly indicating that the clouds are at a higher altitude than other features."

Saturn has a huge hexagonal storm swirling at its north pole. But Jupiter lacks such a vortex, the new photos show.

"There is nothing on Jupiter that anywhere near resembles that," Bolton said. "The largest planet in our solar system is truly unique. We have 36 more flybys to study just how unique it really is."

The $1.1 billion Juno mission launched in August 2011 and reached Jupiternearly five years later, on July 4 of this year. But Juno's instruments were turned off on this latter date, because mission team members wanted to focus on executing the make-or-break, 35-minute orbit-insertion burn.

So the Aug. 27 approach marked the first opportunity for the Juno team to photograph Jupiter up close and make detailed measurements with its suite of eight science instruments. (The spacecraft is currently in a highly elliptical, 54-day orbit around the planet.)

One of these instruments, the Jovian Infrared Auroral Mapper (JIRAM), captured views of Jupiter's north and south poles in infrared light, revealing hot spots that had never been seen before, mission scientists said.

Like Earth, Jupiter has auroras — dramatic light displays that dance above the planet's north and south polar regions. JIRAM got unprecedented looks at the powerful Jovian southern aurora, Juno team members said.

"We were amazed to see it for the first time," JIRAM co-investigator Alberto Adriani, of the Istituto di Astrofisica e Planetologia Spaziali (Institute of Astrophysics and Space Planetology) in Rome, said in the same statement.

"No other instruments, both from Earth or space, have been able to see the southern aurora," he added. "Now, with JIRAM, we see that it appears to be very bright and well-structured. The high level of detail in the images will tell us more about the aurora's morphology and dynamics."

Juno also managed to "hear" Jupiter's auroras, using the spacecraft's Radio/Plasma Wave Experiment (also known as Waves).

"Waves detected the signature emissions of the energetic particles that generate the massive auroras which encircle Jupiter's north pole," said Waves co-investigator Bill Kurth, a research scientist in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Iowa. "These emissions are the strongest in the solar system. Now we are going to try to figure out where the electrons come from that are generating them."

Next month, Juno is scheduled to perform another engine burn that will shift the probe into a 14-day-long orbit. The spacecraft will continue gathering data — especially during its close flybys over the planet's poles — before ending its mission with an intentional death dive into Jupiter's atmosphere in February 2018.

Juno's observations should help scientists better understand Jupiter's composition and structure, including whether the giant planet harbors a core of heavy elements. This information should, in turn, shed light on the formation of Jupiter, the solar system and planetary systems in general, NASA officials have said.

Interstellar Space Travel: 7 Futuristic Spacecraft To Explore the Cosmos

INTRO. To the stars

Astronomers recently announced strong evidence of an Earth-like alien planet around Proxima Centauri, the star closest to our sun, making it the closest exoplanet found to date. Though the star system is our cosmic neighbor, it is still located 4.2 light-years, or 25 trillion miles, away from Earth. At such distances, could we ever visit the newfound planet?

Even the nearest stars would takes tens of thousands of years to reach using conventional spacecraft, such as the robotic probes being used now to explore the solar system. These spacecraft are driven by a combination of chemical rockets, low-thrust ion drives and gravity-assisted trajectories — including so-called "slingshot maneuvers" around the sun or large planets that give them a big burst of speed.

But if we're going to travel beyond our solar system, we're going to need something a little faster than that — perhaps something like the giant Project Daedalus fusion rocket, shown here to scale with NASA’s Saturn V rocket in an illustration by graphical engineer and space artist Adrian Mann, whose work is featured in this countdown of futuristic space technologies. Here are seven ways that robots, or even human explorers, could visit the Proxima Centauri system or other cosmic neighborhoods.

1. Project Daedalus

Project Daedalus is a concept design for an interstellar probe, developed in the 1970s by a group of technical specialists for the British Interplanetary Society. The target destination was Barnard’s Star — a red dwarf about 6 light-years away, in many ways similar to Proxima Centauri, where astronomers now report they have found signs of apotentially habitable planet. When Project Daedalus was conceived, some astronomers thought a gas giant planet might be in orbit around Barnard's Star, but since then, no planets have been found in the star system.

The result of the five-year project was the design of the Daedalus spacecraft, a two-stage, 54,000-ton nuclear rocket that would boost a 400-ton robotic probe to around 12 percent of the speed of light. This would enable the probe to make the 6-light-year journey to Barnard’s Star in around 50 years.

The rockets of the Daedalus spacecraft would be powered by nuclear fusion, using electron beams to detonate a stream of pellets of fuel such as helium-3, which could be mined from the surface of the moon. Even so, the engines would consume tens of thousands of tons of fuel to get the spacecraft up to its top speed in about 4 years — and because there wouldn’t be any fuel left to slow down, the end result of the 50-year journey would be just a 70-hour flyby of the destination system, before the spacecraft speeds past into interstellar space.

The Daedalus would be much too large to lift off from the Earth’s surface, so it would have to be built in orbit, which means spacecraft like this couldn’t be built without a capacity for construction in space that doesn’t exist today, said space scientist Ian Crawford, a professor of planetary science and astrobiology at Birkbeck College in the United Kingdom.

While Crawford thinks the science behind the Project Daedalus concept is better understood now than when the spacecraft was designed, he said the immense cost and enormous technical challenges likely mean it would be more than 100 years before something like the Daedalus sets out for the stars.µ

2. Project Icarus

The Project Daedalus concepts from the 1970s are the inspiration for Project Icarus, an ongoing joint project by the British Interplanetary Society and the Icarus Interstellar organization, an international network of scientists, engineers and enthusiasts who hope to develop the capabilities for interstellar spaceflight by the year 2100.

Project Icarus is designed to reach any star within 22 light-years of Earth that has a potentially habitable exoplanet, meaning if a planet is confirmed around Proxima Centauri, it could become a target destination.

Project Icarus aims to update the Daedalus design with new technologies and ideas. Among the refinements proposed are fusion rocket engines that use a different nuclear fuel, which would be detonated by lasers instead of electron beams — a technology that could draw from recent advances in laser-ignition fusion at the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, Crawford said.

The Icarus probe could also be smaller than the 400-ton probe envisioned for Project Daedalus,  thanks to advances in electronic miniaturization and robotics, and future nanotechnologies — which would mean the spacecraft would need to carry less fuel to reach its full speed.

3. Light sail

Our best bet for interstellar travel may be to not use a rocket at all, Crawford said. Light sails, which use the pressure of light to propel a payload, are already being considered for interplanetary space probes, and in 2010 Japan’s experimental IKAROS spacecraft successfully used its 60-foot-wide (20 meters) light sail to maneuver during a six-month journey to Venus.

But although light sails driven by sunlight are already an effective way to explore the solar system, they are not fast enough to cover interstellar distances in a reasonable amount of time.

Crawford said the answer may be to use powerful lasers to push the light sail to very high speeds with bursts of light at the start of the journey, until the spacecraft is too far from the laser source to gain more thrust from the light beam.

Since the driving lasers would be built on Earth or in orbit, interstellar light-sail spacecraft would not need to carry fuel for the journey, and so the mass of the spacecraft could be kept small.

Laser-driven light sail spacecraft are the basis of the Breakthrough Starshot project that was announced this year by investor Yuri Milner and physicist Stephen Hawking. The project aims to build a working prototype by 2036 at a final mission cost of around $10 billion dollars.

The project envisages a swarm of around 1,000 stamp-size "StarChip" spacecraft, each weighing a few grams and attached to a light sail measuring 13 feet (4 m) across, which would be deployed from a "mothership" in orbit before being accelerated by ground-based lasers to speeds of around 15 to 20 percent the speed of light.

This would allow the spacecraft to make the 4-light-year journey to the Alpha Centauri system — a triple-star system that includes the star Proxima Centauri and its possible planet — in between 20 and 30 years.

The concepts behind the Breakthrough Starshot project have been studied by Philip Lubin, a professor of cosmology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, who says the biggest challenge remaining is to create sufficiently powerful lasers to drive the light sail spacecraft.

4. Bussard ramjet

The Bussard Ramjet concept, proposed by physicist Robert Bussard in 1960, combines the high thrust of fusion rockets with the low fuel requirements of light sails.

Instead of carrying its own fuel, a Bussard Ramjet would scoop up the very thin traces of gas and dust found in interstellar space, known as the Interstellar Medium, using a vast funnel-shaped electromagnetic field that extends for thousands of miles in front of the spacecraft.

Hydrogen from the Interstellar Medium would then be compressed and used as fuel in a fusion rocket at the rear of the spacecraft that drives it forward.

In theory, a spacecraft driven by a Bussard Ramjet could continue to accelerate as long as there is enough interstellar gas in its path to provide enough thrust, and could reach a high fraction of the speed of light.

As a result, the venerable Bussard has seen long and honorable service in many works of science fiction, notably Larry Niven’s "Known Space" series of novels and short stories, including the "Ringworld" books; and the 1970 Poul Anderson novel "Tau-Zero" (Doubleday, 1970), in which an interstellar crew push their stricken Bussard spacecraft to relativistic speeds to avoid destruction.

Unfortunately, the Interstellar Medium around our solar system and the nearby stars is especially thin, and scientist have calculated that there’s just not enough hydrogen there to fuel a Bussard Ramjet. "It's not the ideal part of the galaxy," Crawford said.

But he explained that several ideas have been proposed to get around this limitation, including a concept known as a “Ram Augmented Stellar Rocket”, which uses collected matter as reaction mass to drive the spacecraft forward, using energy beamed to it by a laser; and an "Interstellar Runway," which would use deposits of fuel positioned in advance in the path of an accelerating Bussard spacecraft.

5. Antimatter rocket & black hole drive

Beyond light sails, giant lasers and fusion rockets, a few even more exotic options for interstellar travel have been proposed, such as rockets powered by the extremely violent (and supremely efficient) annihilation reaction of matter and antimatter.

"Antimatter would be an excellent rocket fuel, because its energy density is so high," Crawford said. "But, of course it doesn't exist in nature, we have to make it. And it's very difficult and expensive to make, and very dangerous once you've made it — so who knows whether it could ever be used as a rocket fuel?"

Another proposal for using exotic physics to drive a spacecraft is the "Schwarzschild Kugelblitz" drive, which would use a microscopic, artificial black hole contained within its engines as its power source.

One idea for a ship equipped with the so-called "SK Drive," shown above, would trap Hawking radiation from the rapid and extremely violent decay of the tiny black hole, and convert it to energy that can be used it to propel the spacecraft.

Each of the artificial black holes would only survive for a few years, so new black holes would need to be created on demand, possibly by compressing pellets of matter with gamma-ray lasers.

According to a 2009 research paper, an SK-drive starship powered by a microscopic black hole with the mass of a modern supertanker could accelerate to 10 percent of the speed of light within 20 days. The black hole would last around 3.5 years before it decayed entirely, and would output more than 160 petawatts, or 160 quadrillion watts, of power in its lifetime.

6. Human "Slow Boats"

Even with super-fast rockets traveling at speeds of 10 percent or more of the speed of light, it would take many human lifetimes to reach all but the very nearest stars. And although Crawford is an advocate of human exploration of the solar system, he said that interstellar distances are too vast to make a human voyage conceivable within the next few hundred years.

"I think humans can explore the planets more effectively than robots, and I also think there are cultural reasons for sending humans into space, to broaden our range of experiences and enrich human culture," he said. "Now, it’s true that all of that would apply on the interstellar scale as well — it’s just that the distances are so large and the technical difficulties so great that advocating it at this stage is almost inconceivable."

Even so, several ideas exist for what are known as "Slow Boat" concepts that might one day take humans to the stars, including:

Sleeper Ships, in which human crewmembers are kept in a state of "deep sleep" or "suspended animation" for the duration of the very long voyage. This idea has featured in several science fiction movies, including Stanley Kubrick’s "2001: A Space Odyssey" made in 1969, Ridley Scott's "Alien" in 1979 and James Cameron's "Avatar" in 2009.

World Ships, also known as generation ships or interstellar arks, would be giant self-contained space habitats carrying large populations of humans and other species from Earth on a relatively leisurely journey to colonize exoplanets — journeys that would take many centuries to complete. Entire generations would live and die during the voyage, and only the descendants of the original population would arrive at the destination.

Embryo Ships would send cryogenically frozen embryonic humans, instead of sleeping or living humans, to a distant colony planet, where they would be "hatched out" and educated on their mission by a crew of protective robots.

7. Faster than light?

Wherever astronomers look in the universe, the Theory of Relativity holds fast. As Albert Einstein showed, it's not possible to accelerate a mass to the speed of light in space, nor past it.

But Einstein's equations may yet hold a few tricks that could someday let science do an end-run around the known laws of physics and achieve faster-than-light (FTL) travel — a Holy Grail for generations of science fiction fans.

The best known scientific concept for FTL travel is the Alcubierre drive, proposed by theoretical physicist Miguel Alcubierre in 1994.

The proposed drive operates by using intense gravitational forces, generated by two rotating rings of dense exotic matter, to shrink the physical dimensions of space in front of the spacecraft while expanding the space behind it, at a rate that could appear to exceed the speed of light.

In Alcubierre's proposal, which requires a type of exotic matter for the rings that is not known to exist, the spacecraft inside the "warp bubble" created by the drive would never travel faster than light in its local space, and so would not violate the laws of relativity.

Other speculative ideas for FTL travel include using trans-dimensional wormholes — also theoretically possible, but not known to exist — to travel between entangled but distant regions of space; or to daringly skim the edges of a large, spinning black hole, as depicted in Christopher Nolan’s 2014 movie "Interstellar."

But Crawford notes that the concept of faster-than-light travel is rife with unknowns and apparent contradictions, such as violating the principle of causality, in which events are caused by other events that happened earlier in time, and not the other way around. So, it's likely the proposals would prove impossible, even if they were technologically feasible to attempt.

"I don't want to sound overly pessimistic, because I can see huge benefits of being able to travel to the stars, but the laws of physics are the laws of physics, and it is going to be really difficult," Crawford said.

VIDEO De Amerikaanse ruimtevaartorganisatie NASA heeft een primeur te pakken. Ze kon voor het eerst de noordpool van de planeet Jupiter gedetailleerd op foto vastleggen. De afbeeldingen werden genomen door de ruimteverkenner Juno en dit weekend door de NASA vrijgegeven.

"Het lijkt op niks dat we ooit eerder hebben gezien", zegt Scott Bolton van het Southwest Research Institute (Texas). Ook de zuidpool van de gasreus werd vereeuwigd, maar het is vooral de noordpool die de aandacht van de onderzoekers trekt. Ze kleurt immers blauwer dan de rest van het hemellichaam en het is er schijnbaar veel stormachtiger dan verwacht. 

De ruimtesonde maakte ook infraroodbeelden van de grootste planeet van ons zonnestelsel. Zo is op een van de foto's het morgenrood op de zuidpool te zien.

Juno stuurde eerder al foto's van Jupiter door naar de aarde, maar de afbeeldingen die de NASA onlangs op haar website plaatste, zijn veel scherper. 

De verkenner vloog vorige week 'dicht bij' de planeet op een afstand van circa 4.000 kilometer. Er volgen de komende maanden nog tientallen vluchten rond de gasreus om meer data te verzamelen. In 2018 is de missie afgelopen en zal Juno vergaan in de atmosfeer.

Wetenschappers denken op dwergplaneet Ceres, die ronddraait in een asteroïdengordel tussen Mars en Jupiter, een inactieve vulkaan te hebben ontdekt.

Ruimtesonde Dawn van de Amerikaanse ruimtevaartorganisatie NASA bestudeerde de berg op Ceres de afgelopen maanden. De vulkaan is half zo hoog als de Mount Everest. De laatste uitbarsting vond vermoedelijk honderden miljoenen jaren geleden plaats. 

"Het is onwijs cool en onverwacht", zei Christopher Russell van de University of California vandaag. Ceres stond ooit te boek als een volwaardige planeet, maar werd later gedegradeerd tot asteroïde. Tegenwoordig valt Ceres in de categorie dwergplaneet, net als Pluto. 

Ruimtesonde Dawn is de eerste die de dwergplaneet van dichtbij observeert. De sonde cirkelt als sinds maart 2015 rond Ceres.

Ufojagers spotten deze vreemde lichtgevende objecten aan internationaal ruimtestation - HLN.be

Deze keer zijn ze er honderd procent zeker van dat ze het bewijs hebben dat we niet alleen zijn in het heelal. Ufospotters hebben op YouTube een filmpje gedeeld waarop het internationaal ruimtestation ISS te zien is. Op de beelden is plots twee keer een lichtgevend object waar te nemen dat passeert.

De beelden zouden afkomstig zijn van de NASA volgens StreetCap1, de ufojagers die het filmpje hebben gedeeld. Het ruimtestation is immers 24 uur per dag te volgen via een livefeed van de ruimtevaartorganisatie. Je kan de Russische Progress Capsule zien, die zich aan het ISS heeft vastgemaakt voor bevoorrading. Achter de capsule is tot twee keer toe een lichtbol waar te nemen. 

Volgens Scott Warring van de website UFO Sightings Daily gaat het om het ultieme bewijs dat buitenaardse wezens het ruimtestation in de gaten houden. Onder het filmpje - dat intussen al 15.000 keer werd bekeken in enkele dagen tijd - zijn nog meer enthousiaste commentaren te lezen. En af en toe een kritische noot van iemand die er niets van gelooft en de spotters een dokter aanraadt.

A FAMILY out walking on a Yorkshire moorland claim to have captured a Star Trek-shaped UFO flying overhead.

The dark grey object, which appears to have a halo around it, was snapped by Nicole Smith, 19, on her smartphone during a family day out to Bronte waterfalls, in West Yorkshire.

She was with her parents Catherine and Shane at the time and was shocked when she discovered the UFO on one of her photos.

Her mum Catherine, 49, from Normanton, said: “We went for a day out in Haworth and decided to drive to the moor and parked near a footpath leading to Bronte waterfalls.

“It was a good two and a half mile walk from where the car was parked.

“My daughter was taking random pictures of the sheep and scenery on our way back from the falls. It was around 5.30pm when she took the picture on her mobile phone.

“It was only when we were on our way home she was scanning through the photos she had taken, she noticed the object in the picture.”

The picture has been studied by an American optical physicist formerly employed by the US Navy.

Dr Bruce Maccabee, who is now a leading Ufologist, said: “I’m not aware of anything that looks like this. The image is too small for good resolution.

“It was not seen at the time so no information on distance. It might be some sort of insect within ten feet from the camera.”

UFO Fleet Caught Passing Over A Suspected Alien Base

Incredible footage of multiple massive UFOs has emerged recently – bringing the theory of an alien base anew. A suspected alien spaceship moves through the clouds over the Yellowstone National Park in the U.S. The space vessel is believed to be over 100 meters across.

A gigantic super-volcano is a notable natural structure in the Yellowstone National Park. While staying dormant for 70,000 years, a potential eruption of this massive volcano could kill 90,000 people and spark a nuclear winter, experts have warned.

Flying saucers were seen in a live camera observing the park. YouTube user Jeanette Forestershared the video to the video sharing site. She regularly posts short videos of the park, but this is the first time she posted a clip of her UFO sighting, which she describes as once in a lifetime.

Many space alien enthusiasts believe the U.S. knows about an active alien base or bases in the Yellowstone Park because the government allotted 3,468 miles of land for the park.

Last October, footage of a giant halo in an overcast sky over Moscow surfaced on YouTube. The video had everything needed to ignite UFO rumors. It's grainy. At one point, a dark pointy object appears to bolt out of the ring. There's even a panicked-sounding Russian radio broadcast in the background.

Cool-headed meteorologists were quick to put the story to bed: It was just an optical illusion, the cause of sunlight hitting a cloud disturbed by wind or plane traffic in just the right way. Most likely it was what is known as a hole-punch cloud. These occur in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds, which are often composed of ice crystals and super-cooled water droplets water that is below freezing temperature, but still in liquid form. The physical properties that hold these clouds together are delicate, and when disturbed by a jet plane, wind or even cloud seeding efforts the droplets can freeze instantly or evaporate, the latter of which will form the hole.

To viewers on Earth, the second planet from the sun appears as a bright light that hangs in the sunset sky, seeming to slowly hover in the twilight as it outshines every star except for the sun. Here's proof that anything funny-looking in the sky can cause an uproar. This past Monday, most of the U.S. woke up to reports that a mystery missile had launched off the coast of California. The sightings were spurred by video of a condensation trail, or contrail, streaking through clouds lit up by the rising sun. No one could conclusively say what it was at the timeofficials at the Department of Defense reported no scheduled missile launches, NORAD and USNORTHCOM detected no foreign activity and the FAA hadn't cleared any commercial space launches in the area. After a thorough investigation, many experts now believe that the streak was a wait for it a run-of-the-mill jet aircraft contrail that happened to hang around longer than usual. Contrails appear most vivid around sunrise or sunset, and it's not uncommon that one showing up in an unexpected location will generate whispers of a UFO or experimental military aircraft.

Lights in the sky, especially when viewed by pilots, can also cause a stir, but are almost always revealed to be running lights of other aircraft, or flares dropped by weather research craft.

1. Military Experiments

The late 1940s and early 1950s were a great time for spotting UFOs and aliens in New Mexico, primarily because that's where the Air Force was conducting some of its top-secret research. One such program was known as Project Mogul and involved floating microphone-carrying balloons to high altitudes in an attempt to pick up the sound waves generated by Soviet atomic bomb tests. The Air Force has since confirmed that a 1947 crash of one of those balloons created the debris that birthed the Roswell UFO Incident.

Another military experiment provided the bodies for that UFO. In the 1950s, Air Force scientists dropped several dozen anthropomorphic dummies from planes to test new high-altitude parachutes and determine whether the bodies would enter a dangerous spin as they fell. Results from these studies contributed to designs for the parachutes and pressurized suits that fighter jet pilots and early astronauts would wear. The Air Force was more than happy to allow Russian spies to think New Mexicans were a little kooky than to reveal the true military origin of the sightings.

In May 2015, researchers using a radio telescope in Russia detected a candidate SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence) signal that seems to originate from HD 164595, a star system that lies about 94 light-years from Earth, the website Centauri Dreams reported over the weekend.

The astronomers have not yet published a study about the detection; they plan to discuss it next month at the 67th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Guadalajara, Mexico, according to Centauri Dreams' Paul Gilster, who wrote that one of the team members forwarded him the IAC presentation. HD 164595 is known to harbor one planet — a roughly Neptune-mass world that orbits too close to the star to support life as we know it. However, it's possible that other worlds lurk undiscovered in the system, said astronomer Seth Shostak of the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California, who is not part of the detection team.

To be clear: Nobody is claiming that aliens beamed out this signal. But that is one of the possible scenarios at the moment, Shostak told Space.com.

The scientists who made the detection are respected researchers, and the signal is strong enough that it's probably not just random noise, Shostak said. Furthermore, the signal is consistent with something an alien civilization might send out — and if aliens did indeed do it, they are certainly far more advanced than we are, he added.

Based on the received signal's characteristics, aliens would have to generate about 100 billion billion watts of energy to blast it out in all directions. And they'd still have to produce more than 1 trillion watts if they beamed it only to Earth for some reason, Shostak said.

"The first number is hundreds of times more than all the sunlight falling on Earth," he said. "That's a very big energy bill."

The SETI Institute focused the Allen Telescope Array (ATA), a system of radio dishes in Northern California, at HD 164595 Sunday night (Aug. 28) and plans to do so again tonight (Aug. 29), Shostak said. He certainly hopes the ATA finds something that would suggest ET is behind the signal, but he said he suspects there's a more prosaic explanation.

For example, it's possible that interference by an Earth-orbiting satellite or something else close to home is responsible, Shostak said. Indeed, he said that such "terrestrial interference" would be his bet, if we ever do learn what caused the signal.

But, sadly, it's very possible that we'll never know. The Russia-based team apparently observed the HD 164595 system 39 different times and only detected the signal once, Shostak said. If nobody sees it again, it will probably remain a mystery, much like the famous "Wow!" signal of 1977.

"Without a confirmation of this signal, we can only say that it's 'interesting,'" Shostak wrote today in a blog post about the candidate signal detection.

The SETI Institute focused the Allen Telescope Array (ATA), a system of radio dishes in Northern California, at HD 164595 Sunday night (Aug. 28) and plans to do so again tonight (Aug. 29), Shostak said. He certainly hopes the ATA finds something that would suggest ET is behind the signal, but he said he suspects there's a more prosaic explanation.

For example, it's possible that interference by an Earth-orbiting satellite or something else close to home is responsible, Shostak said. Indeed, he said that such "terrestrial interference" would be his bet, if we ever do learn what caused the signal.

But, sadly, it's very possible that we'll never know. The Russia-based team apparently observed the HD 164595 system 39 different times and only detected the signal once, Shostak said. If nobody sees it again, it will probably remain a mystery, much like the famous "Wow!" signal of 1977.

"Without a confirmation of this signal, we can only say that it's 'interesting,'" Shostak wrote today in a blog post about the candidate signal detection.

Alien abductions at Area 51 army base: Ex-soldier reveals secrets from inside joined HQ

Brooks claims he was also subjected to a series of mind-control experiments in the army at secretive government military science base Porton Down near Salisbury.

He was claims he was fed mysterious substance on a sugar lump, which he believes was LSD, and began to have psychedelic episodes – he had never used drugs before.

The experiments featured a large black spiral moving on a white wall while the two captors shouted out him as he felt he was being drawn into the spinning object.

Feelings of hyper-aggression gripped Brooks after the experiments.

He believes he unknowingly signed up to the programme after getting into trouble for “scrapping with the lads” and being told if he agreed to join the experiments it would “all go away” and he would get two weeks extra leave.

Brooks reveals his lifetime of experiences in his new book called ’44: Based on an Ex-Soldier’s True Story of Life-Long Encounters Involving Alien Abduction’ – which is avaliable now.

It was co-authored by alien abductee expert Joanne Summerscales, founder of the ET Newsroom – a UK based project which offers support for experiencers. 

Summerscales focuses on helping those who have had alien encounters of any kind or who have undergone mind control experiments.

She said: “His whole life is incredible. The most amazing thing is someone can live two thirds of their life, until they are 44, without realising what has happened to him.

“It was like a near death experience, he saw every detail of these things that happened to him, and it seemed to come out of nowhere.”

Mr Brooks’ first major encounter with alien life came in 1960 while lying in a crop of corn.The then 10-year-old witnessed the creation of a crop circle before he was approached by a family of four Nordics – tall blonde humanoid aliens which are commonly described by alien abductees.The Nordics told him “Earth was in trouble” and asked “would he help?” before taking him for a ride on their ship.The younger aliens showed him how to use his mind to command movement of small spheres, which he did, and then the adults showed him the propulsion system and tried to explain it to him. He also had a dramatic encounter with grey aliens while working as a truck driver after he had left the army.Brooks was eating fish and chips in his van and preparing to bed down for an overnight stop when he noticed a light in a field – looking over to see a cow being levitated by an alien craft.But when the aliens noticed him, surrounding his van and taking him up through an orange light, passing through the windscreen as if it were not there.When he was aboard the craft he saw the greys were dumping the cow, fearing for his life the one grey told him “No, you’re human”.

After being subjected to experimentation aboard the craft, Bill awoke the next day with no memory of what had happened to him.

Dumped behind the van, parked in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, was the butchered corpse of a cow – showing trademark signs of the cattle mutilation phenomena which is often linked to alien experimentation.

After getting home to his wife, he discovered he had “lost a day” during the incident and had been left without his wedding ring.

He also had two implants in his nostril and mouth which he expelled – only for them to disappear during another UFO event the following night.

The Kardashev Scale – Type I, II, III, IV & V Civilization

We have reached a turning point in society. According to renowned theoretical physicist Michio Kaku, the next 100 years of science will determine whether we perish or thrive. Will we remain a Type 0 civilization, or will we advance and make our way into the stars?

Experts assert that, as a civilization grows larger and becomes more advanced, its energy demands will increase rapidly due to its population growth and the energy requirements of its various machines. With this in mind, the Kardashev scale was developed as a way of measuring a civilization’s technological advancement based upon how much usable energy it has at its disposal (this was originally just tied to energy available for communications, but has since been expanded).

MEET THE KARDASHEV SCALE

The scale was originally designed in 1964 by the Russian astrophysicist  Nikolai Kardashev (who was looking for signs of extraterrestrial life within cosmic signals). It has 3 base classes, each with an energy disposal level: Type I (10¹⁶W), Type II (10²⁶W), and Type III (10³⁶W). Other astronomers have extended the scale to Type IV (10⁴⁶W) and Type V (the energy available to this kind of civilization would equal that of all energy available in not just our universe, but in all universes and in all time-lines). These additions consider both energy access as well as the amount of knowledge the civilizations have access to.

First, it is important to note that the human race is not even on this scale yet. Since we still sustain our energy needs from dead plants and animals, here on Earth, we are a lowly Type 0 civilization (and we have a LONG way to go before being promoted to a type I civilization). Kaku tends to believe that, all things taken into consideration, we will reach Type I in 100 – 200 yearstime. But what does each of these categories actually stand for in literal terms?

A Type I designation is a given to species who have been able to harness all the energy that is available from a neighboring star, gathering and storing it to meet the energy demands of a growing population. This means that we would need to boost our current energy production over 100,000 times to reach this status. However, being able to harness all Earth’s energy would also mean that we could have control over all natural forces. Human beings could control volcanoes, the weather, and even earthquakes! (At least, that is the idea.) These kinds of feats are hard to believe, but compared to the advances that may still be to come, these are just basic and primitive levels of control (it’s absolutely nothing compared to the capabilities of societies with higher rankings).

The next step up – a Type II civilization – can harness the power of their entire star (not merely transforming starlight into energy, but controlling the star). Several methods for this have been proposed. The most popular of which is the hypothetical ‘Dyson Sphere.’ This device, if you want to call it that, would encompass every single inch of the star, gathering most (if not all) of its energy output and transferring it to a planet for later use. Alternatively, if fusion power (the mechanism that powers stars) had been mastered by the race, a reactor on a truly immense scale could be used to satisfy their needs. Nearby gas giants can be utilized for their hydrogen, slowly drained of life by an orbiting reactor.

What would this much energy mean for a species? Well, nothing known to science could wipe out a Type II civilization. Take, for instance, if humans survived long enough to reach this status, and a moon sized object entered our solar system on a collision course with our little blue planet–we’d have the ability to vaporize it out of existence. Or if we had time, we could move our planet out of the way, completely dodging it. But let’s say we didn’t want to move Earth… are there any other options? Well yes, because we’d have the capability to move Jupiter, or another planet of our choice, into the way – pretty cool, right?

So we’ve gone from having control over a planet, to a star, which has resulted in us harboring enough “disposable” energy to essentially make our civilization immune to extinction. But now, onto Type III, where a species then becomes galactic traversers with knowledge of everything having to do with energy, resulting in them becoming a master race.  In terms of humans, hundreds of thousands of years of evolution – both biological and mechanical – may result in the inhabitants of this type III civilization being incredibly different from the human race as we know it. These may be cyborgs (or cybernetic organism, beings both biological and robotic), with the descendants of regular humans being a sub-species among the now-highly advanced society. These wholly biological humans would likely be seen as being disabled, inferior, or unevolved by their cybernetic counterparts.

At this stage, we would have developed colonies of robots that are capable of ‘self replication’; their population may increase into the millions as they spread out across the galaxy, colonizing star after star. And these being might build Dyson Spheres to encapsulate each one, creating a huge network that would carry energy back to the home planet. But stretching over the galaxy in such a manner would face several problems; namely, the species would be constrained by the laws of physics. Particularly, light-speed travel. That is, unless they develop a working warp drive, or use that immaculate energy cache to master wormhole teleportation (two things that remain theoretical for the time being), they can only get so far.

Kardashev believed a Type IV civilization was ‘too’ advanced and didn’t go beyond Type III on his scale. He thought that, surely, this would be the extent of any species’ ability. Many think so, but a few believe there is a further level that could be achieved. (I mean, surely there is a limit?) Type IV civilizations would almost be able to harness the energy content of the entire universe and with that, they could traverse the accelerating expansion of space (furthermore, advance races of these species may live inside supermassive black holes). To previous methods of generating energy, these kinds of feats are considered impossible. A Type IV civilization would need to tap into energy sources unknown to us using strange, or currently unknown, laws of physics.

Type V. Yes, Type V might just be the next possible advancement to such a civilization. Here beings would be like gods, having the knowledge to manipulate the universe as they please. Now, as I said, humans are a very, very long way from ever reaching anything like this. But it’s not to say that it cannot be achieved as long as we take care of Earth and each other. To do so, the first step is to preserve our tiny home, extinguish war, and continue to support scientific advances and discoveries.

Remarkably Strange Object Found Orbiting Backwards Beyond Neptune

A new object past Neptune has been found orbiting the Sun, nearly perpendicular to the planets in the Solar System. The newly found object, named Niku, was discovered by a team of astronomers using the Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) telescope in Haleakala, Maui. And it has astronomers scratching their heads.

“I hope everyone has buckled their seat belts because the outer solar system just got a lot weirder,” Michele Bannister, an astronomer at Queens University, Belfast tweeted.

Niku, which is around 200 kilometers (124 mi) in diameter, isn’t conforming to the Solar Systems norms: it’s not moving from East to West, but upwards. It orbits the Sun on a plane tilted 110 degrees above the orbital plane of the planets in the Solar System. But the weirdest thing about this finding is that this object is not only tilted, but also orbiting backwards, opposite the orbital direction of the planets. This is abnormal because the rest of the planets and objects in the Solar System orbit the sun counter-clockwise, or prograde.

“Angular momentum forces everything to have that one spin direction all the same way,” says Bannister. “It’s the same thing with a spinning top, every particle is spinning the same direction.”

Two planets in the Solar System, however do not follow this norm either. Venus and Uranus were believed to have been hit by another celestial body, thus altering their rotation. Initially, a similar collision was suspected to have caused Niku to orbit the sun backwards, which would also explain the object’s 110-degree inclination.

But while Niku could have easily been dismissed as just another collision victim, additional findings have astronomers throwing that logic out the window and scratching their heads even more. They found that Niku is not alone. Apparently, Niku is a part of an entire group of objects orbiting the Sun in this inclination, and in this direction.

THEORIES?

The mysterious and still mythical (as of now) Planet Nine was also a primary suspect to the alteration, but further scrutiny concluded that Niku is too close to the center of the Solar System—beyond a hypothetical Planet Nine’s gravitational reach.

“It suggests that there’s more going on in the outer solar system than we’re fully aware of,” Matthew Holman, a senior astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center told The New Scientist.

So do scientists have any hypotheses as to what, how, and why these objects are moving around us the way they do?

“We don’t know the answer,” says Holman.

Although there are no solid explanations at the moment, and the study is still up for peer review, astronomers are very excited.

“Whenever you have some feature that you can’t explain in the outer solar system, it’s immensely exciting because it’s in some sense foreshadowing a new development,” says Konstantin Batygin at the California Institute of Technology.

Bannister enjoys the confusion that comes with it: “It’s wonderful that it’s so confusing,” she says. “I’m looking forward to seeing what the theoretical analysts do once they get their hands on this one.”

Free Science: NASA Just Opened Its Entire Research Library to the Public

NASA is opening up its research library to the public in the newly launched web database PubSpace…and it’s absolutely free.

From here on out, any NASA-funded research articles in peer-reviewed journals must comply to its new policy. This requires that papers be published and uploaded to the portal within one year of publication so that they are freely accessible to anyone. The only exception is studies that involve patents and material governed by personal privacy, proprietary, or security laws.NASA Chief Scientist Ellen Stofan believes that this move will benefit fellow scientists and engineers and accelerate innovation. “Making our research data easier to access will greatly magnify the impact of our research,” she said. “As scientists and engineers, we work by building upon a foundation laid by others.”

VIDEO: Ontploffing SpaceX-raket veroorzaakt door UFO?

Er zijn beelden opgedoken van een object dat langs het lanceerplatform in Cape Canaveral in Florida vliegt op het moment dat daar een Falcon-testraket van SpaceX ontploft. Dat melden Britse media.

SpaceX sprak op Twitter van ‘een anomalie’ op het lanceerplatform. Deze term wordt door overheden vaak gebruikt voor UFO’s. Volgens sceptici is het gewoon een insect of een vogel.

De Falcon 9 had een satelliet voor Facebook moeten lanceren. De satelliet kostte 195 miljoen dollar en was gemaakt door Israel Aerospace. Facebook wil in de toekomst internettoegang aanbieden in afgelegen en arme delen van Afrika. Dat project heet internet.org.

Tot in de wijde omgeving waren grote zwarte rookpluimen te zien. Gebouwen stonden te schudden op hun grondvesten van de zware klap. SpaceX is het belangrijkste commerciële ruimtevaartbedrijf. Tegen betaling brengt het satellieten in een baan rond de aarde. Daarnaast brengt het voorraden naar het internationale ruimtestation ISS.

Druk gediscussieerd

De explosie is een nieuwe tegenslag voor SpaceX. In januari viel vlak voor een lancering een raket om. Ook werden lanceringen regelmatig uitgesteld door problemen.

Het filmpje waar het allemaal om te doen is, werd door Graphics King op YouTube geplaatst en is inmiddels ruim 100.000 keer bekeken. Onder de video wordt druk gediscussieerd over de herkomst van het mysterieuze object.

VIDEO: Is element 115 het geheim achter de buitenaardse voortstuwing?

Het Amerikaanse leger heeft lange tijd ontkend dat in 1947 iets anders dan een weerballon is gecrasht nabij Roswell. In 2011 openbaarde de FBI echter een memo gericht aan J. Edgar Hoover over de berging van drie ‘vliegende schotels’, zo meldt tv-zender History.

Sommigen zeggen dat Roswell slechts het topje van de ijsberg is en dat wereldwijd nog veel meer UFO’s op aarde zijn neergekomen. De wrakstukken zouden verborgen worden gehouden op geheime legerbases zoals Area 51 in Nevada, Kapoestin Jar in Rusland, Pine Gap in Australië, Rudloe Manor in Engeland en zelfs in afgelegen gebieden in China.

In 2013 bevestigden wetenschappers van de Universiteit van Lund in Zweden het bestaan van een nieuw element. De Zweedse onderzoekers voerden experimenten uit die hen in staat stelden de ‘vingerafdruk’ van het nieuwe, zeer zware element waar te nemen.

Negen buitenaardse ruimteschepen

Element 115

Het nieuwe element kreeg de naam ununpentium mee, maar die naam – die refereert aan de 115e plaats in het periodiek systeem – is slechts tijdelijk. Hoewel wetenschappers nog maar weinig weten over dit element, lijkt het verband te houden met plutonium, dat onder meer gebruikt wordt voor experimentele raketbrandstof.

In mei 1989 verklaarde een man genaamd Bob Lazar op de Amerikaanse televisie dat hij in Area 51 had gewerkt aan de ontmanteling van UFO’s. In één van die UFO’s ontdekte hij naar eigen zeggen het geheim van de buitenaardse voortstuwing: element 115, een voor aardse fysici toen nog onbereikbaar onderdeel van het periodiek systeem.

Enkele jaren later, in mei 1993, zei Lazar tijdens een bijeenkomst dat de Amerikaanse overheid negen buitenaardse ruimteschepen in bezit had, waarvan er tenminste één operationeel was.

Speciaal soort metaal

Eind 2015 ontwikkelden wetenschappers van de Universiteit van Californië een speciaal soort metaal dat extreem sterk en tegelijkertijd extreem licht is. Het metaal is bovendien erg flexibel en bestand tegen extreme hitte.

Volgens sommigen vertoont dit metaal veel gelijkenis met het metaal dat tijdens de Roswell-crash zou zijn verzameld door majoor Jesse Marcel. “De meeste voorwerpen waren buitengewoon licht. Het ging om erg dun en sterk materiaal dat vrijwel niets woog,” zegt de Canadese kerngeleerde Stanton Friedman.

“De Amerikaanse overheid liegt al zeven decennia over Roswell,” verklaart de Canadese oud-minister van Defensie Paul Hellyer. “De Verenigde Staten doen nog steeds alsof het hen niet interesseert en ze er niets over weten. Niets is minder waar.”

Arizona UFO returns multiple times same night

An Arizona witness at Chandler reported watching a sphere-shaped UFO appear and disappear five times over a three-hour span, according to testimony in Case 78571 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness broke down the three sightings and provided three video clips from the events that began about 9:15 p.m. on August 19, 2016.

“Sighting #18/19/16 (around 9:15p.m. -9:22p.m. PST) – no video,” the witness stated.“The first event occurred northeast of Chandler, Arizona, where I, along with two of my friends noticed an extremely bright light radiating in the sky. As we positioned ourselves better to see what was going on, we noticed two smaller lights below the larger one in the shape of an equilateral triangle.”

The witness described movements of the lights.

“After a few minutes of hovering without movement, the light on the bottom left disappears, followed by the bottom right light, leaving only the larger light, which slowly began moving and creeping towards the west until it too disappeared after a minute.”

The witness did not record the first event.

“We were in absolute awe over what we just saw, that is until one hour later when it returned.”

“The following is a description of each video I recorded, along with time stamps for verification. Sighting #2 8/19/16(10:22p.m. -10:27p.m. PST). I recorded two videos of the second sighting. Unfortunately, I did a fairly poor job recording this particular event, but I have two videos of even #2 where you can definitely see the object. Sighting #3 8/19/16 (10:47p.m. -10:52p.m. PST). Okay, this is where you can really start seeing the weird that’s going down. You can see in the beginning a plane flying overhead, clearly moving faster and with the lights blinking like a normal plane, yet the object below is either hovering, or just moving slowly to the west. At 0:56, I zoomed into the object, but the craziest part was at 1:04 when the light flashes then changes from a whole orb into an eerie, doughnut-shaped circle (I did not change the zoom at the moment it changed shape and turned from a single orb into its doughnut-shape).”

The witness did not notice the change.

“I didn’t even notice the doughnut shape until I watched it afterwards since I was holding the phone above my head. During the last minute or so it had moved out of my line of sight so I’m pretty sure the blinking object during or around 4:20 was just a plane.”

The witness details the next sighting.

“Sighting #4 8/19/16 (11:09p.m. -11:12p.m. PST). Almost 30 minutes later it came back, except unlike with Sightings #2 and #3, there was a second light.They hovered side-by-side for a couple minutes. Unfortunately for this one, I missed recording the craziest part, when after two minutes of hovering still, one of the lights suddenly orbits behind the other, and then disappears. Sighting #5 8/20/16 (12:11a.m. -12:13a.m. PST). An hour later, the light returned, but this time back as one light again. We wanted to get a better view so we walked around the neighborhood to find a better angle. None of the videos were edited, altered, or tampered with in any way. I’ve been searching online all day today trying to find other people who witnessed one or more of the events. I truly want to believe that what I saw was extra-terrestrial, however, I can’t for sure prove that it was. I would love to know if anyone else has recordings, an idea of what this was, or can help breakdown this footage to provide a more rational explanation.”

Het ‘hakenkruis’ is opgebouwd uit die twee ‘essen’- SS. Alle volken in alle culturen en beschavingen zijn op de hoogte van de aanwezigheid van die tweede ster met zijn planeten.

Ik struikel sinds ik het weet met regelmaat over de vele vele aanwijzingen (getuige al dat materiaal voor zo veel afleveringen). 

Helemaal onderaan een gewas formatie uit 2015 in Engeland (nabij Ox drove - geen toeval uiteraard want een Ox is een Os en dat is een Stier en dat heeft weer alles met de stierster te maken)... 

De Nazi’s wisten vast en zeker dat de ster in aantocht was maar het was nog niet hun tijd om de wereld over te nemen...

Dat willen/moeten de Chazaren ook, dus werden de Duitsers twee maal in een vernietigende oorlog gezogen en vernietigd... 

Der is meer maar met onze nieuwe inzichten waren de ‘deutschers’ en dan doel ik op de leiders misschien helemaal niet zo fout als wij denken en moeten we de ellende van twee wereldoorlogen zoeken bij de Chazaren die zich voordoen als de Joden maar dat niet zijn... 

Vergeet niet dat de Nederlanders/Duitsers de taal van de Anunnaki spreken.

Dat is geen toeval omdat de blanken het laatste door Enki verbeterde subras zijn. Wij zijn zijn zaad en daarom wil Enlil alles wat blank is nu definitief uitwissen. 

Dat zal en moet nu gebeuren. Handlangers bovengronds zoals eerder aangehaald; de Chazaren. Die worden al in boek Genesis genoemd voor er sprake is van de twaalf stammen Israëls (die wij ook zijn). 

Ze hebben haast en eigenlijk weten ze al dat ze het niet redden... en daarom roepen ze; ‘Wir schaffen das’!

AUSTRALISCH GEZIN SCHRIKT ZICH EEN HOEDJE DOOR EEN ENORME UFO (VIDEO)

Een vader is op een vroege avond met zijn twee zoontjes aan het spelen in de tuin, wanneer ze opeens een enorm object in de lucht zien hangen. 

Volgens de omschrijving van de man uit Queensland in Australië was het object driehoekig van vorm en 100 keer groter dan een vliegtuig. 

Een afgelegen en wild gebied is de hoogvlakte Atherton Tableland in de Australische deelstaat Queensland. 

Het Atherton Tableland is een hoogvlakte ten zuidwesten van Cairns in de Australische deelstaat Queensland. De hoogte van het Atherton Tableland bedraagt tussen de 600 en 900 meter. Het Atherton Tableland maakt deel uit van het Groot Australisch Scheidingsgebergte, dat parallel aan de Australische oostkust loopt. De belangrijkste rivier in het gebied is de Barron river, met een stuwdam waarachter het Tinaroomeer ligt. 

Het is hier dat er enkele dagen geleden iets gebeurde waardoor een gezin de stuipen op het lijf werden gejaagd. 

Kyle Mathiot en zijn partner Deborah wonen met hun twee kinderen in het plaatsje Herberton in Queensland. 

Kyle was afgelopen zaterdagavond rond een uur of half acht in de tuin met zijn twee zoontjes toen ze iets vreemds ontwaarden in de lucht.

“We zagen opeens een vreemd licht in de lucht en dat was veel te groot om een ster te kunnen zijn”, zei Kyle. 

“Ik greep de telefoon van mijn partner en begon met het nemen van foto’s en toen plotseling waren er nog twee lichten in de vorm van een driehoek met voorop een groot licht en twee andere aan het einde. 

Het object bleef ongeveer een half uur stil hangen in de lucht en dat gaf Kyle de gelegenheid om nog wat foto’s te nemen.

“Het object vloog heen en weer zoals een vliegtuig of een drone dat nooit zou kunnen doen. In de lucht leken de lichten een paar centimeter van elkaar verwijderd. Het was absoluut geen drone en het was wel honderd keer groter dan een vliegtuig”. 

Kyle zegt dat hij volkomen overdonderd was door de grootte van het object. Iets dat in de slechte kwaliteit foto’s niet tot hun recht komt omdat er referentiekaders ontbreken. 

Volgens het Australische ministerie van Defensie was er op dat moment geen enkel toestel van hen in die regio in de lucht. 

De plaatselijke UFO organisatie die een onderzoek instelt, heeft ook geen verklaring, behalve het feit dat de waarneming echt is omdat alle getuigen dit ook met het blote oog hebben gezien. 

UFO’s hoeven niet altijd buitenaards te zijn, ze kunnen ook afkomstig zijn uit geheime militaire, aardse (reversed) technologie. 

Misschien betreft het bovenstaande geval wel de TR3B Astra.

De mysterieuze vliegende zwarte driehoek wordt waargenomen op verschillende locaties over de hele wereld.

Veel mensen verwarren dit vliegend object met een UFO, terwijl het dat niet is, wel zit er UFO technologie in verwerkt. 

Van de TR-3B wordt algemeen aangenomen dat het een product is van het "Aurora" zwart-project. Volgens verschillende bronnen is dit de top van de geheime projecten. Dit geheime project van de V.S. kost $ 3 miljard per object en onlangs zijn er 3 TR-3B Astra’s aan Israel verkocht. 

De TR-3B is een nucleair aangedreven vliegende driehoek, in staat tot fenomenale snelheden. Het toestel kan door reactieve elektrische stimulatie van kleur en van uiterlijk veranderen en een andere vorm aannemen of onzichtbaar worden voor het menselijk oog. 

De TR-3B Astra bevat een plasmaveld versneller annex magnetisch veld verstoorder ('disruptor') , waardoor de massa van het toestel incl. inzittenden met 90% verkleind zou kunnen worden, zodat de zwaartekracht nauwelijks invloed heeft op de prestaties van het toestel. 

Mede hierdoor zou de snelheid boven Mach 50 uit komen, ter vergelijking: de meeste gevechtsvliegtuigen hebben Mach 2. (Mach 1 is gelijk aan de snelheid van het geluid). 

Daarnaast zou de Astra uitgerust zijn met een deeltjesversneller/pulselasers, 'scalaire' wapens (waardoor de vijand zo verward wordt, dat men vrijwillig de wapens neerlegt) en tevens 40 neutronenbommen. 

Menselijk of buitenaards, het gezin in Australië is zich een hoedje geschrokken.

Alien UFO DESTROYS Space X Rocket On Launch Pad, Sept 2016, Video, UFO Sighting News.

A UFO was seen above the Space X rocket, upon there very second of its massive explosion. The UFO had no wings and looks similar to a car size disk. If aliens are responsible for destroying this rocket, you can sure as heck believe its for a higher level reason. 

This makes me wonder if Elon Musk has betrayed the publics trust by allowing the US gov to load a spy satellite or weapons satellite on board this rocket. You know, when you see aliens involved in an explosion of a rocket, that the rocket could have had massively bad implications on humanities future. It looks like Space X is becoming an arms dealer of weapons of mass destruction. Just lucky the aliens destroyed it, before it started WWIII.

Here is a great close up of a metallic classic disk, which are common among the W56 alien base at Rocca Pia, and also was seen at Cape of Good Hope, all the way to a UFO I found in an Apollo 14 NASA photo. 

 

UFOs are often seen during sunset, due to the angle of the sun and the eyewitness, but this one was also seen in a storm cloud, which could mean it was causing the storm itself from its propulsion.

I was on my deck, right after a rain storm, taking pictures of the skyline. I didn't see anything until I uploaded my photos and noticed a gray streak in one of the pictures. I enlarged the area and was amazed by what I saw. It was a clear image of what looked like a flying saucer. You could see three lights/windows on the top of the craft.

UFOs often try to cloak in plain site by making themselves appear as clouds...which some are...but then...others are not. Its possible that these UFOs came from within the mouth of Fuji volcano and began forming a disk cloud around them to wait for other UFOs to exit Fuji. Once all UFOs have exited and all are cloaked, they will slowly move off and up until out of sight. The UFO themselves are not as big as the cloud around them...instead they are usually about 5-10% the size of these large clouds, but the clouds sometimes continue to expand around them until they decide the comfortable size to hide within.

A baby cloud had born at dawn. The baby cloud had grown bigger and bigger than before. When it came the time of the morning glow, It had grown to many huge lenticular clouds. It looked like UFO formation.
