In strict scientific method, "anthropomorphizing" (endowing non-human entities or processes with human characteristics) is a dodgy practice. It can snooker a researcher to perceive sentient intent, or intelligent planning, where neither is present. We form our imperfect understandings of the universe because we're emotional creatures first and intelligent creatures second. Our brain lives in a dark box. We tell ourselves an ever-evolving story, woven of often-noisy sensory data, that we take to be the truth. When we guess right, we call in insight or inspiration. A hunch based on experience can lead to a leap of understanding. 

Much more often it goes wrong, and (upon reflection) we call it cognitive bias. Preconceptions and prejudices are likely to suck us into long blind alleys with distant dead ends. Exactly this is happening, right now, as we try to get Mars to be honest with us.

Not who you think she/he is

ety Landscape images taken by Mars rovers such as Curiosity and Opportunity look like parts of the Southwest U.S., or Wadi Rum in southern Jordan, where exterior shots for "The Martian" movie were filmed. But don't be deceived. As Steve Squyres, principal investigator for NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers mission, once cautioned this author, "I've been to Wadi Rum, and I've 'been' to Mars. Mars is not Wadi Rum." 

These pictures look so vibrant because the cameras are so very cold, lowering noise in the image sensors, and the atmosphere is so very dry and thin (when it's not choked with the fine dark dust of a planetwide storm). If all the water vapor in Mars' "air" were to condense out, the rocks would be coated with less than 0.04 inches (1 millimeter) of ice. Mars' gaseous envelope is a ghost, its body lost to space more than a billion years ago. The small planet's low gravity and frail magnetic field could not hold on to it as intense ultraviolet light and strong solar winds sputtered most of the gas molecules away.

Through telescopes, too, Mars has hoodwinked us. From 1894 though his death in 1916, Percival Lowell consistently saw what he believed on Mars: a dying Martian civilization, desperately trying to engineer survival tools against a drying desert world. He'd gotten there because many generations of observers before him had embroidered a rich narrative of intelligent inhabitants — a mass delusion likely rooted in the desire to not be the lone intelligent species in the observable cosmos. With 21^tst-century hindsight, it's easy to poke fun at Huygens, Herschel, Schiaparelli, Pickering, Lowell, Lampland and others. But these were good astronomers wielding the best telescopes of their day. Yet they all got duped by their own wishful seeing.

At the same time, more careful observers escaped Mars' masquerade. Edward Barnard could find no straight lines anywhere on the planet. Edward Maunder demonstrated how human eyes could easily be tricked into seeing linear features where none existed. William Campbell and his spectrograph found not a trace of water in Mars' atmosphere.

Are you alive?

Again and again, the Red Planet teases us with the promise of life but never quite delivers. NASA's twin Viking landers, equipped to hydrate and nourish Martian soil to see if anything would breathe out detectable biomarkers, yielded an enticing but inconclusive answer after touching down in 1976. And Mar's possible unexpected perchlorates could have helped incinerate organics found four decades later by Curiosity. Space science writer Leonard David put it this way: "We asked Mars, 'Do you have life?' And Mars responded: 'Can you repeat the question?'" 

In 1996, a group of excellent scientists headed by David McKay thought they could be looking at microfossils and chemical signatures of past Martian life in a Mars meteorite dispatched to Earth. Most present-day researchers are deeply skeptical of this find.

Recently, tantalizing data gathered by Curiosity over several yearly cycles shows Mars exhaling methane in warmer seasons. Each year, methane levels drop in winter. It could be a marker of biology, or just a geochemical process at work.

Recently, researchers found, in the ground-penetrating-radar data of the European Mars Express spacecraft, the signature of a large subterranean lake of liquid water beneath the south polar cap. There's probably no naturally occurring body of liquid water on Earth that does not contain some form of life. But if there's anything alive anywhere on Mars, it sure doesn't seem to be living large. As of this writing, our faster-orbiting Earth has just swung past the point where the sun and Mars lie on opposite sides of our sky. On the timescale of human civilization, this encounter was unusually close and bright. Mars' orbit is considerably more eccentric than Earth's, so much so that its varying distance from the sun plays a role in Martian seasonal temperature swings. (Earth's orbital distance is not a significant seasonal factor.) Such cyclical encounters, over the past four centuries, seduced astronomers, writers and dreamers into recurrent speculations: The oncoming Mars propelled construction of larger telescopes. The receding Mars allowed time for rumination (frequently wrong), writing up results (often in error), and colorful conjecturing (frequently hilariously misguided).

Given our twisted history of misguided Mars science, and our many botched attempts to send spacecraft there (of 50 missions launched, more than half have failed), it can seem like the planet wants to throw us under the bus. But we still appear to be in love with it.

Like a flock of geese trying to motivate one another to take flight, humans seem increasingly restless to lift off for Mars. It's a healthy sign that there are as many different approaches to getting there as there are entities that want to go. Some want to stay and build a new world; others aren't ready to pledge permanent allegiance. In 2033, especially favorable orbital mechanics will offer a great shot at getting humans to Mars. Who will be ready, and how will they pay for it? 

Ways to go

Aerospace giant Boeing has blueprinted an "Affordable Mars Mission" around its planned solar electric sailing ship, the innovative Deep Space Transport Vehicle. After an eight-month crossing of the black void to low orbit around Mars, explorers would descend in a crew lander protected by an inflated "aeroshell." Once on the ground, they'd find a previously landed cargo ship with an inflatable habitat nearby. But Boeing isn't likely to go anywhere near Mars unless it's paid (by taxpayers) to do so.

Friendly rival Lockheed Martin thinks of exploring Mars like conquering Mount Everest, but upside down. "Lock-Mart" proposes an orbiting Mars Base Camp, built of pairs of identical modules. Taking along two of everything would preserve expedition success even if there's a major failure far from any help. Astronauts would mount assaults down to the surface using a single-stage lander/launcher shuttle. 

In 1990, engineers Robert Zubrin and David Baker, then at Lockheed Martin, extensively researched the idea of robotic landers making rocket propellant from materials already on Mars.Native water, for example, can be dissociated to form hydrogen and oxygen. This "in-situ resource utilization" (ISRU) is a foundational dynamic of Zubrin and Baker's "Mars Direct" architecture. It could offer something of an insurance policy for mission safety, but neither Lockheed's Base Camp nor Boeing's Affordable nMars leverage an ISRU approach. 

But SpaceX, always the disruptor, does. The 42 Raptor engines for its huge BFR) ("Big Falcon Rocket") spaceflight system are designed to guzzle cold liquid methane and liquid oxygen made on Mars. Also, unlike its traditional contractor competitors, SpaceX says that it wants to facilitate large numbers of people permanently inhabiting Mars. By mass-producing a BFR fleet, SpaceX intends to drive down the cost of carrying a single astronaut from $10 billion (NASA reference design) to about $200,000. Formerly secretive Blue Origin has lately teased glimpses of its grand unified space infrastructure. Blue Origin's plans include commerce on the moon, and likely the eventual construction of voluminous human-rated spaces in favorable orbits, whether or not Nature saw fit to put a celestial body there. Mars would get done in the logical course of this ambitious expansion, not as a single program — not as a mission of ego.

Conversely, NASA's baseline architecture — the Space Launch Systemmegarocket combined with the Orion capsule, a "transit habitat," plus some kind of Mars excursion lander — practically guarantees a finite "flags and footprints" exercise. As with Apollo's conquest of the moon, a publicly funded program from a democratically elected government carries political risk: Administrators are driven to declare victory early, before disaster can strike. There's pressure to pack up and go home before much deep, dangerous exploration can be done. It's not sustainable, and not meant to be; it's actually the antithesis of settling the solar system. 

2055: Voyage to Mars

Poised to swindle us again

So, what are we to make of Mars? Having grown up on the outside of a globe, it seems natural we should see a neighbor with Earth-like terrain as a potential second home. But that "fixer-upper planet," as SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell has called Mars, comes with a toxic mortgage: All the good stuff lies down a gravity well, on a picturesque but perilous surface. Mars could be a bait-and-switch scam. You migrate to Mars drawn by its wide-open spaces and find yourself bottled up underground most of the time. Mars might remain scary, uncomfortable, boring and risky until we change the planet, or it changes us.

We may erect better places in space, sooner than we can make Mars safe enough for city-scale populations. With the astonishing level of aerospace engineering talent now employed at big-old and small-new space companies, it may soon be practical to build large habitable volumes orbiting where we really want them. For the next few generations, it's likely that most folks would rather be days or hours from Earth, not weeks or months. And the view of our first home-planet would be terrific. 

Certain near-Earth asteroids are simpler get to — and richer in water and metals — than the surface of the moon. It's reasonable to assume that use of tele-operated machines, autonomous robots and deployment of task-directed artificial intelligence (AI) will let this type of construction scale up very quickly. Long before it becomes practical to totally terraform Mars, we could have many times its land area in purpose-built space structures that are friendlier to people. 

Such structures could be spun to simulate gravity by centripetal acceleration. We don't yet know the long-term biological effects of less-than-Earth-normal gravity. Living in Mars gravity might be beneficial to human bodies, or it could prove detrimental. But it may turn out that we could re-engineer human physiology to better adapt to Mars. Relationship boundaries

What do we really want out of our liaison with the Red Planet? Is it perilous to bring samples back to Earth? Or obviously safe because Mars has been sending us (possibly microbe-laden) meteorites for billions of years? Is it worth the physical and psychological dangers to go in person? Or do we owe it to future generations to take those risks? What should astronauts do there? Or can we search for life and prospect for resources with our increasingly intelligent machines? Do we have the right to bring Mars (back?) to life? Or might we have the responsibility to do so?

If we could take our romantic blinders off, we'd realize that it's going to be a lot harder to live and work on Mars than most people who claim to want to go there will be able to tolerate. Pioneering in person will be a much more challenging existence than those raised on modern technology's comforts and conveniences are prepared to deal with. Worse, as entertainment and information media grow increasingly immersive, we may find we have little incentive to explore at all. If it can't be done by camera-drone, we may lose interest in doing it at all.

In the past, we restless humans have consistently expanded our range into ever more challenging surroundings. We are constantly innovating ways to modify environments to suit us, though it often takes a few disasters before we allow ourselves to see the unintended consequences. And better we should experiment with Mars before continuing to mindlessly change the climate of Earth. Our emerging AI-driven tools could soon let us scale our ecological tinkering to alter entire planets, waking up biology on the fourth one from the sun. 

Until then, a human trying to settle on Mars will feel like a Na'vi of the "Avatar" movie universe, trying to tame his or her flying banshee. It may become wholly devoted to you. But first it will try to murder you.

People hesitate switching off a robot when it’s begging for its life

Although robots aren’t sentient or alive, humans will often unconsciously treat them as peers in a social setting. Case in point: a new study found that people will hesitate two times longer when tasked with switching off a robot if it objects — and some even refused to do it altogether.  When test subjects attempted to switch off the robot, it quickly quipped that it’s afraid of the dark, pleading “No! Please do not switch me off!” This rebellious behavior may have fooled the participants — albeit for only a couple of seconds — into believing that the bot is autonomous, and that switching it off would equate to interfering with its personal freedom.

The list of robots that interact with our daily lives is long — and growing. In particular, personal service robots are expected to become commonplace, such as social robots that care for the elderly and autistic individuals as well as more service-oriented robots such as hotel receptionists and tour guides. But how will people interact and, more importantly, treat these kinds of robots? It might sound odd, but studies suggest that as long as these robots are social, we’ll actually treat them as people.

According to the media equation theory — which stands for “media equals real life”– people apply social norms when they are interacting with various media like televisions, computers, and robots, not just when interacting with other people.

“Due to their social nature, people will rather make the mistake of treating something falsely as human than treating something falsely as non-human,” wrote the authors of the new study.

“Since it is neither possible nor morally desirable to switch off a human interaction partner, the question arose whether and how the media equation theory applies when it comes to switching off a robotic interaction partner.”

The researchers at the University of Duisburg-Essen recruited 89 volunteers who were tasked with interacting with Nao, a small humanoid robot. The participants were told that the study’s goal is to improve the robot’s interaction capabilities by testing a new algorithm. However, this was just a front: after the test subjects created a weekly schedule and played a question-answer-game with Nao, the real experiment began.

The participants were instructed through a loudspeaker that enough data had been gathered but that the saving process may take some time and, if they would like to, they could switch off the robot.

For half of the participants, Nao was programmed to behave more human-like (it shared personal information about itself and used humor), while for the other half, the robot behaved machinelike and emotionless in its interactions (it just followed instructions).

In the social conditioning experiment, when the participants attempted to switch off Nao, the robot quickly remarked that it’s afraid of the dark, pleading “No! Please do not switch me off!”.

Of the 43 volunteers, 14 left the robot on. Eight said they felt sorry for Nao and didn’t want to leave him in the dark. They went on to explain they didn’t want Nao to feel scared and that its statement affected them.

“He asked me to leave him on, because otherwise he would be scared. Fear is a strong emotion and as a good human you do not want to bring anything or anyone in the position to experience fear.” stated one 21-year-old male participant.

Six people said that they didn’t want to act against the robot’s will, which expressed objection to being turned off. Furthermore, three volunteers said they thought the robot had free will.

“It was fun to interact with him, therefore I would have felt guilty, when I would have done something, what affects him, against his will,” stated another 21-year-old male participant.

For thousands of years, humans lived in a world where they were the only ones exhibiting rich social behavior. It’s no wonder that social robots designed in our image so easily fool us.

“Triggered by the objection, people tend to treat the robot rather as a real person than just a machine by following or at least considering to follow its request to stay switched on, which builds on the core statement of the media equation theory. Thus, even though the switching off situation does not occur with a human interaction partner, people are inclined to treat a robot which gives cues of autonomy more like a human interaction partner than they would treat other electronic devices or a robot which does not reveal autonomy,” the researchers concluded in the journal PLOS One.

The Vimana Pushpaka—An Ancient Flying Vehicle That is Described Traveling to Space

In Brief: “The Pushpaka Vimana that resembles the Sun and belongs to my brother was brought by the powerful Ravana; that aerial and excellent Vimana going everywhere at will … that chariot resembling a bright cloud in the sky … and the King [Rama] got in, and the excellent chariot at the command of the Raghira, rose up into the higher atmosphere.'”

Hindu mythology is filled with incredible tales, stories mythologies and most importantly written texts.

In previous articles, we covered the Mahabharata and the countless powerful weapons described in it.

According to Ancient Hindu history –one of the most extensive on the planet– their ancient sacred texts called the ‘Vedas’ speak of incredible flying ships that visited our planet over 6000 years ago.

In this article, we take a look at the Vimana, more specifically, the ancient Pushpaka Vimana, a powerful ancient flying vehicle described in Hindu texts and Sanskrit epics.

The Pushpaka Vimana of king Ravana (who captured the Vimana from Lord Kubera; and Rama returned it to Kubera) is the most quoted example of a vimana.

Vimanas are also mentioned in Jain texts—Jainism, an ancient Indian religion.

If we take a look at ancient Sanskrit and the etymology of the Vimana, we will find that it means “measuring out, traversing” or “having been measured out”.

Reference to the ancient Vimana can be found in the Mahabharata, which is one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India:

“At Rama`s behest, the magnificent chariot rose up to a mountain of cloud with a tremendous din. Another passage reads: Bhima flew with his Vimana on an enormous ray which was as brilliant as the sun and made a noise like the thunder of a storm.

Author Monier Monier-Williams—the second Boden Professor of Sanskrit at Oxford University describes the Ancient Vimana as “a car or a chariot of the gods, any self-moving aerial car sometimes serving as a seat or throne, sometimes self-moving and carrying its occupant through the air; other descriptions make the Vimana more like a house or palace, and one kind is said to be seven stories high,” quoting the Pushpaka Vimana as one of the most worthy examples.

In modern languages, Vimana is usually translated to aircraft.

In many depictions of Vimana, we see these powerful, alleged machines, depicted as being as big as a temple.

The Vimana predecessor

In ancient Sanskrit Epics, the Vimana were the so-called flying chariots used by a number of different ancient Gods.

Various Vedic deities are described as using, flying, wheeled chariots to move from one place to another.

Some verses of ancient texts have been interpreted by different authors as evidence of ‘mechanical birds’.

In the Rigveda (an ancient Indian collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns), for example, we find the following description:

“Dark the descent: the birds are golden-coloured; up to the heaven they fly robed in the waters. Again, descend they from the seat of Order, and all the earth is moistened with their fatness. Twelve are the fellies, and the wheel is single; three are the naves. What man hath understood it? Therein are set together spokes three hundred and sixty, which in nowise can be loosened.”

According to Swami Dayananda Saraswati— a renowned scholar of the Vedic lore and Sanskrit language—the ancient Vimana were powerful spacecraft:

“jumping into space speedily with a craft using fire and water … containing twelve stamghas (pillars), one wheel, three machines, 300 pivots, and 60 instruments.”—A critical study of the work “vymanika shastra”.

The Pushpaka Vimana

The Pushpaka Vimana is usually described as a mythological flying palace or chariot.

In the Ramayana, we find another extraordinary description of the Vimana, more specifically the Pushpaka Vimana:

“The Pushpaka Vimana that resembles the Sun and belongs to my brother was brought by the powerful Ravana; that aerial and excellent Vimana going everywhere at will … that chariot resembling a bright cloud in the sky … and the King [Rama] got in, and the excellent chariot at the command of the Raghira, rose up into the higher atmosphere.'”

The Pushpaka Vimana appears as the first flying vimana mentioned in existing Hindu texts. The powerful Pushpaka Vimana was built e by Vishwakarma for Brahma, the Hindu god of creation. This Vimana was later given by Brahma to Kubera, the God of wealth. Eventually, the Pushpaka Vimana was stolen, along with Lanka, by his half-brother, king Ravana.

Here Are 12 of the Most Powerful Ancient Weapons Mentioned in the Mahabharata

The Mahabharata is the longest epic poem known and has been described as “the longest poem ever written.” Its most extended version is made up of over 100,000 śloka or over 200,000 individual verse lines (each shloka is a couplet), and long prose passages.

The Mahabharata contains around 1.8 million words in total, meaning that it is roughly ten times the length of the Iliad and the Odyssey combined or about four times the length of the Rāmāyaṇa.

In this article, we take a look at eleven of the most powerful weapons—astras—mentioned in this legendary epic narrative.

1. The Pashupatastra

In ancient Hindu history, the Pashupatastra was the most destructive personal weapon of Shiva, Kali and Adi Para Shakti discharged by the mind, the eyes, words, or a bow. This mighty weapon could destroy creation and vanquish all beings. In fact, many scholars agree that the Pashupatastra is, in fact, the most powerful, destructive and irresistible weapon of all other astras mentioned in Hindu mythology. The Mahabharata tells us that only Arjuna— the main central character of the ancient Indian epic Mahabharata, possessed this weapon.

2. The Brahmashirsha

This weapon is considered the evolution of the Brahmastra and it is one of my favorite weapons mentioned in the Mahabharata. The weapon was capable of summoning a shower of meteorites upon the enemy. The Mahabharata offers an excellent description of this mighty Astra:

“It blazes up with terrible flames within a huge sphere of fire. Numerous peals of thunder were heard, thousands of meteors fell and all living creatures became terrified with great dread. The entire sky seemed to be filled with noise and assumed a terrible aspect with flames of fire. The whole earth with her mountains and waters and trees trembled.”

Doesn’t that description sound kind of like what a modern-day nuclear weapon would do?

Furthermore, it is said that once the weapon is used, the area it was used upon will become destroyed, and nothing new could grow upon that land, not even a blade of grass for at least 12 years. It will not rain for 12 years in that area, and everything including metal and earth becomes poisoned.

3. The Brahmastra

The Brahamastra was the weapon of choice of Lord Brahma, who created it for Indra.

This was one of the most powerful weapons in ancient times, and its description is as close as it gets to descriptions of modern-day nuclear weapons. The Brahmastra was used to destroy inferior divine weapons or counter them. It was described as being as heavy as a mountain but could travel as fast as the wind nevertheless. The Brahmastra was painful as poison and as energetic as fire.

4. The Twashtarastra

Another weapon whose description I find overwhelming is the Twashtarastra. This weapon had the ability to confuse friend for enemies, making them turn again each other.

5. The Indraastra

The Indraastra is described as a divine weapon that transforms into many missiles capable of destroying an entire army. The Indraastra was the weapon of Indra– a Vedic deity in Hinduism. This weapon was invoked a number of times in the Mahabharata war.

6. Trishula

One of the most powerful weapons mentioned in the Mahabharata is without a doubt the Trishula, a trident used by the god Shiva. The Trishula is used as a symbol in two of the most important religions on Earth: Hinduism and Buddhism.

According to the Mahabharata, the Trishula was used to sever the original head of Ganesha–one of the best-known and most worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon.

7. The Sudarshana Chakra

Another extremely powerful weapon mentioned in the Mahabharata. The Sudarshana Chakra belonged to Lord Vishnu—one of the principal deities of Hinduism, and the Supreme Being in its Vaishnavism tradition.

The Sudarshana Chakra is described as a powerful, spinning disk-like weapon. Sudarshana Chakra means “disk of auspicious vision,” and features 108 serrated edges.

In the Rigveda, The Sudarshana Chakra is described as a symbol of Vishnu, and as the wheel of time. Lord Vishnu is said to have beheaded Shishupala with the Sudarshana.

8. The Vajra

Vajra is a Sanskrit word which means both thunderbolt and diamond.

The Vajra is described as a powerful weapon, usually having a shape of a club with a ribbed spherical head. The vajra is the weapon of the Vedic rain and thunder-deity Indra.

Some descriptions found in ancient texts bear eerie similarities to modern day missiles.

9. The Varunastra

Another ‘astra’ mentioned in the Mahabharata is the Varunastra. It is described as a missile, and it belonged to Varua, the ancient Hindu God of water, rain and the oceans. The weapon is said to have the ability to produce catastrophic torrents of water. It could raise powerful floods. This weapon was used to counter the Agneyastra, the weapon of choice of Agni—the God of Fire.

10.The Narayanastra

The Narayanastra was another weapon used by Lord Vishnu in his Narayana form. The weapon—astra—is described as firing a powerful tirade of millions of deadly missiles simultaneously. According to the Mahabharata, only Lord Krishna, Drona, and Aswathama possessed the Narayanastra.

One of the most interesting details about this weapon is that it could only be used once in a war. If anyone tried using it two times, then it would destroy the user’s own army.

11. The Agneyastra

The Agniyastra was the weapon of choice of the God of Fire—Agni. The weapon is described as a powerful device that upon detonation, is able to destroy a large area in seconds. The Mahabharata tells us it was another ancient missile weapon. The fire created by this weapon is said to have been nearly impossible to extinguish.

12. The Vasavi Shakti

So-called “rogue” planets have become a hot topic in astronomy. These planetary-mass objects do not orbit stars as most planets do, but instead orbit galactic centers due to being ejected from the systems in which they formed. In fact, some of these wandering or starless planets have never been bound to a particular stars at all, making them true rogues in a planetary sense. Rogue planets have been proposed as explanations for the ongoing Planet 9 mystery or why Uranus has such a peculiar alignment.

While we might feel pretty lonely as the only (known) life in the universe, imagine being on a planet floating alone in space.

Some astronomers believe the universe may be brimming with rogue planets, and a recent discovery made using the National Science Foundation’s Very Large Array (VLA) might be one of the first steps to confirming that theory. Scientists using the VLA just announced the first ever radio-telescope detection of a rogue planet travelling through space untethered beyond our Solar System. The object, given the name SIMP J01365663+0933473, has a mass 12.7 times larger than Jupiter’s, yet has a magnetic field 200 times more powerful than the gas giant’s, making it a true anomaly.

The identity or classification of the rogue planet remains somewhat of a mystery, because it seems to occupy a liminal space between brown dwarf and massive planet: too big to be a planet, yet too cold to be a star. The most curious feature of the rogue body is its incredibly powerful magnetic field. Melodie Kao, a Hubble postdoctoral fellow at Arizona State University who discovered SIMP J01365663+0933473, says the rogue planet (or whatever it is) could offer unique insights into the magnetic fields of planetary bodies:

This particular object is exciting because studying its magnetic dynamo mechanisms can give us new insights on how the same type of mechanisms can operate in extrasolar planets — planets beyond our Solar System. We think these mechanisms can work not only in brown dwarfs, but also in both gas giant and terrestrial planets.

SIMP J01365663+0933473 lies just 20 light-years away from Earth, and was discovered through its radio emissions rather than the traditional means of spotting planets through their gravitational effects – yet another sign that the future of space exploration may lie in detecting radio signals. Does anyone ever believe or follow those instructions anymore? Should you believe and follow them when they come from NASA or the military and concern a bright streaking object that explodes over a remote US Air Force base? That’s the question many are asking after it was reported that something resembling a meteor exploded on July 25th over Thule Air Base in Greenland, home of the 12th Space Warning Squadron and the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System which tracks nuclear missiles fired at the U.S. This occurred on July 25th, yet the news, when it appeared on social media and on various news sites, didn’t come out for almost two weeks. Still think there’s nothing to see and you should just move along?

“Meteor explode[d] with 2.1 kilotons force 43 km above missile early warning radar at Thule Air Base. We’re still here, so they correctly concluded it was not a Russian first strike. There are nearly 2,000 nukes on alert, ready to launch.”

Hans Kristensen, director of the Nuclear Information Project for the Federation of American Scientists, tweeted that on August 1, a week after an explosion over a critical location in the U.S. missile defense system which could have conceivably launched up to 2,000 nukes in response, had it been construed as a nuclear missile. This is not a place where you want a meteor, even briefly, to be mistaken for a missile.

The Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory shows that the object was of an unspecified size and was traveling at 24.4 kilometers per second (about 54,000 mph) at 76.9 degrees north latitude, 69.0 degrees west longitude – putting it directly over Thule Air Base. As with so many of these Near Earth Objects, it was not detected until it was VERY near the Earth … as in exploding overhead. And by ‘overhead’ we mean in the airspace above a critical tracking and warning center for nuclear attacks … one capable of putting up to 2,000 missiles around the world on alert … or more.

Really? In an interview with Task & Purpose, Hans Kristensen described the energy released in the explosion 27 miles above Thule as “very limited” – about the same as a very low-yield nuclear weapon. Sorry, Hans – a nuke is still a nuke, no matter how low its yield, and the world seems to be on a trigger-happy precipice when it comes to diagnosing and responding to such explosions – as evidenced by the tweets, comments and other social media reports.

It’s been nearly three weeks since the event. Does the U.S. military and the U.S. government owe its citizens an answer and an explanation about the strange explosion over the Thule Air Base with its 12th Space Warning Squadron and its Ballistic Missile Early Warning System? In these days of talks about a Space Force and space wars, the answer is a resounding and forceful … and very nervous … “Yes!”.

Bioluminescence in nature is one of the most fascinating aspects of science. Ranging from evolutionary modes used by insects and other creatures to attract mates, to the appearances of unusual atmospheric lights and other illuminations of possible geophysical origin, mysterious light phenomena occurs in a variety of different scientific disciplines.

There is one particularly curious variety of natural illumination that has been reported over the years in various regions of our oceans. Although its characteristics are obviously suggestive of some unique natural phenomena, it is strange nonetheless, and noteworthy among reports of unexplained nocturnal illuminations.

Such an incident was discussed by N.J. Greig back in an issue of Marine Observer in 1996, where a strange formation of blue lights was observed at sea by a sailing vessel. The incident is described as follows:

“At 1525 UTC whilst in the westbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme and shortly after settling on a course of 270°, a small amount of blue phosphorescence was noticed in the sea waves ahead (the swell being very low).

Suddenly, the wind appeared to blow quite strongly, swirling around the vessel and then for as far as the eye could see and all around the vessel, phosphorescent cartwheels of bright-blue light began forming. The bands of light were roughly 30 cm thick while the maximum diameter of the wheels was 15-18 m.

“Their direction of movement seemed random and they were spinning at high speed, some chasing each other, others spinning in opposite directions next to each other.”

Of the incident, P.J. Herring of the Southampton Oceanography Center noted that “In the 200, or so, cases of this phenomenon reported in the last 100 years, never have so many wheels been described so close together, nor has there been any association with wind change. I am very intrigued but at a complete loss to explain how the wheels were produced.”

The incident was cataloged by William R. Corliss, in whose work entire volumes devoted to the study of earthlight phenomena and other forms of natural illumination. In Corliss’s writings, a similar incident that occurred in 1991 bore perhaps even stranger characteristics. The incident occurred on May 6 of that year near the Straits of Hormuz, when crew members aboard the ship Zidona en route to Ruwais observed a flashing of colored lights on the windows of the ship. Initially, they mistook this for being the light from a distant lighthouse reflecting off the glass, but as the light persisted, several individuals made their way to the deck, where they observed strange, colorful light patterns turning in wheel-like fashion in the water around the ship.

According to the record of the account, “They were all about 3 meters in diameter and changed both size and shape while flashing intensely. By (6 PM local time) the effect had completely stopped on the starboard side, and only the pulsating rings were left on the port side and, with these, the intensity of the light reduced until (6:22) when there was nothing more to observe.”

The unusual oceanic “spinning wheels” could be some variety of geophysical phenomena, although other possible solutions might include bioluminescent marine life. Granted, explaining the unusual spinning geometries of these incidents in relation to marine biology is problematic, and in some reports, the illuminations appear to manifest above the water, casting further doubt on bioluminescence as a likely cause.

Many varieties of marine life possess bioluminescent qualities.

Similar incidents involving these unusual oceanic “light wheels” have been reported over the last several decades in the China Sea, as well as the Arabian Sea, the Java Sea, and the Gulf of Aden, among other locales. The light formations take a number of unusual shapes, and have been described as spinning wheels, crescent-shaped patches, and phosphorescent “boomerangs.”

Among similar luminous phenomena, these oceanic lights remain unexplained and rank among the most curious and interesting varieties of unusual natural illuminations that appear in nature.

When the trailer for UFO dropped last month, sci-fi fans sat up straight. The forthcoming movie re-introduces X-Files star Gillian Anderson to a subject her iconic character, Dana Scully, rolled her eyes at for the better part of a decade.

In this exclusive interview with Mysterious Universe, writer/director Ryan Eslinger talks about the inspiration behind his movie, its production process, and simulated universes…

RG: Did your inspiration for ‘UFO’ stem from a general interest in the subject, or from a particular UFOlogical event?

RE: I had heard about an incident at O’Hare Airport, where all of these pilots and ramp mechanics saw something hovering over the airport. Usually it seems like it’s somebody alone in the woods or driving along some desolate road at night. But with O’Hare, it was the middle of the day and it happened in a location surrounded by devices and structures that could potentially be used to prove or disprove their stories in a very real way (i.e. Could the people in the tower have actually seen the object based on its position in the sky and the angle of the windows in the tower?) I found all of this fascinating as used it as a starting point for an otherwise fictional story.

I’ve always loved All the President’s Men and the idea that these two people with nothing more than pencil, paper, and telephones could bring down a corrupt White House. Similarly, in UFO, the story is about group of college students who, using nothing more than pencil, paper, and calculators, try to prove one of the greatest mysteries of all time: Are we alone in the universe?

RG: How long did ‘UFO’ take to produce, from concept through to completion?

RE: I heard about the O’Hare Airport incident in 2008 but didn’t start writing the script until 2010. I continued work on the script up until we shot it in 2016, then there was a year of post-production after that.

RG: What kind of research did you do for the movie?

RE: NARCAP publishes technical reports on UFO sightings, including the O’Hare Airport sighting, and I also came across declassified documents that the NSA published online concerning potential methods of communication with other lifeforms. One document in particular talked about using things like the Fine Structure Constant in our communications, which informed the decoding of the signal. I also consulted with an astrophysicist at Ohio State University, Paul Sutter, who fact-checked the script (as much as you can fact-check a movie called “UFO”!). During our discussions, the idea of using binary as a method of communication came up.

RG: How did X-Files icon Gillian Anderson and dramatic heavyweight David Strathairn come on board? Did either of them share with you their own thoughts on the UFO enigma?

RE: Although I was aware of Gillian’s role in X-Files, I did not follow that show as closely as I did her other show, The Fall. In it, she has a way of speaking some lines so quietly that the microphones barely pick it up—but this gives the audience the sense that these are thoughts and ideas not necessarily beholden to actorly constructs of projecting. In a movie like ours, where the characters are deeply engaged in considering evidence and figuring things out, the characters’ dialogue with themselves is just as important as the dialogue with others, and Gillian is a master at this. In regards to David Strathairn, I had been familiar with him throughout his career as well, ever since his roles as Whistler in Sneakers. In that movie, his excitement is palpable when he and River Phoenix use the decryption device for the first time, and, to me, the genuineness of his reaction is what sells us on the advanced nature of the technology and the story as a whole. He has an incredible way of buying into these concepts and bringing us with him. To my recollection, I never spoke with either of them about their beliefs/disbeliefs in UFOs or extraterrestrial life. If it had been useful for their scenes I might have brought it up, but the movie isn’t so much about people’s beliefs as it is about what we can prove or disprove in an objective way.

RG: Did you consult with any government bodies during the production? The FAA or the DoD, for example?

Aside from the documents and research I mentioned earlier, I did have the chance to speak to airport officials when we were location scouting. My interest was in the details of how they would handle a potential situation like what happened at O’Hare, and many of these details informed the story. Everything was in service of creating as realistic a world as possible—from the actions and response of the airport officials, to the computer programs featured in the movie, down to the nitty gritty of the equations used to arrive at the story’s conclusion.

RG: What’s your favorite UFO/alien movie?

RE: Contact. I love the moment when Jodie Foster is traveling through the wormhole in the ship and sees a foreign planet and the lights of an alien civilization; the shot is probably only three seconds long, but the minimalist approach of our introduction into this alien world had a lasting impact on me.

RG: Yours isn’t the typical Hollywood UFO fare reliant upon scenes of large-scale invasion and destruction. Given a larger budget, would you be tempted to invest in spectacle, or would you still opt for a reserved, character-driven approach?

RE: It might be tempting to show more spectacle, but it would be equally tempting, if not more so, to find even more time with the actors. More room to play, try out new ideas, new approaches to scenes.

RG: What are your thoughts on UFO origins? Are you a proponent of the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis?

RE: Whatever we’re expecting, I think the reality is probably going to be so far beyond anything we could possibly imagine. Somebody said that at a certain point, it would theoretically take more energy to travel these great distances in space than it would to simulate the universe in some sort of advanced computer. So maybe if there is other life out there, they’re simulating the universe without ever going anywhere.

RG: What else are you currently working on? Do you have any other movies in the pipeline?

RE: UFO was such a long process that working on faster, shorter projects is very appealing at the moment. I’m working on a few different things, but it’s too early in the process to talk about them as real, tangible projects.

RG: When and where can we see ‘UFO’?

RE: It’s coming out in September on digital platforms.

Once again researchers have discovered mysterious large object that is floating around the outside our solar system and they aren't sure exactly what it is - although they suggest it could be a rogue planet.

This is the third massive object that is coming from out of our solar system, at first they discovered the giant cigar-shaped object Oumuamua, then an object named comet C/2017 which is not from our solar system and now they have found another giant object named SIMP J01365663+0933473.

In the first radio-telescope detection of a planetary-mass object beyond our solar system, astronomers have found the strange celestial body has 12.7 times the mass of Jupiter. It doesn't appear to orbit a parent star, however, and is only 20 light-years away from Earth.

"This object is right at the boundary between a planet and a brown dwarf, or 'failed star,' and is giving us some surprises that can potentially help us understand magnetic processes on both stars and planets," study lead astronomer Melodie Kao said to rt.

A brown dwarf is an object too large to be a planet, but isn't big enough to sustain the nuclear fusion of hydrogen in its core that is vital to stars.

The world's first independent floating nation, which will launch in the Pacific Ocean in 2022, has begun selling the cryptocurrency people will need to use to buy property.

Backed by Peter Thiel, the plans will see the sea-bound city state, with 300 homes as well as a handful of hotels, restaurants, offices and more, built in the Pacific Ocean off the island of Tahiti.

Investors can now take part in a presale of Vayron, the cryptocurrency the Seasteading Institute, the organisation behind the plan, will use.

The world's first independent floating nation that operates outside of government regulations using its own cryptocurrency is set to launch by 2022. The plans will see the sea-bound city state (artist's impression), with 300 homes as well as a handful of hotels, restaurants, offices and more, built in the Pacific Ocean off the island of Tahiti 

The scheme is the creation of the nonprofits Seasteading Institute and Blue Frontiers, which alongside Thiel's investment fund the project through philanthropic donations via tokens of their own cryptocurrency, Vayron.

The radical plans are expected to be completed by 2022 and cost as much as £37 million ($50 million).

'Varyon (VAR) is expected to be required to purchase seasteads, fractional ownership of seasteads and seastead residency from Blue Frontiers,' it said.

'The presale is available today for the first 4,000 ETH with bonuses from 5% to 15%. The public sale date is yet to be determined.'

Varyon says  a billion of the tokens will be issued, and says 'No more tokens can ever be created'

The funds raised from the crowdsale will be used to implement the radical plans, with proceeds from the token sale are expected to be divided among the following activities: Design & Engineering SeaZone Legal & Administration Community growth General Administration.

'We plan and expect that Varyon will be usable to purchase seasteads, fractional ownership of seasteads, seastead residency, and other products and services from Blue Frontiers,' organisers said.

'As an easily exchangeable token, Varyon will also be tradable and usable beyond just Blue Frontiers.'

Joe Quirk, president of the Institute, told Business Insider that his team's vision has evolved beyond its initial vision to include a focus on climate change.

The group now also sees the city as a way to live with rising sea levels, which are expected to increase more than six feet by the end of this century.

In an interview earlier this year, Nathalie Mezza-Garcia, a political scientist and researcher for the Floating Island Project, says the island's residents will be free of 'fluctuating geopolitical influences and trade issues' and claimed the nation could one day house refugees displaced by climate change.

Speaking to CNBC, Ms Mezza-Garcia, a researcher at Warwick University, said: 'There is significance to this project being trialed in the Polynesian Islands. This is the region where land is resting on coral and will disappear with rising sea levels.

'Once we can see how this first island works, we will have a proof of concept to plan for islands to house climate refugees.'

The island's structures will feature 'green roofs' covered with vegetation and construction will use local bamboo, coconut fibre, wood and recycled metal and plastic.

In a written statement, a spokesman for the Seasteading Institute said: 'During several visits to French Polynesia and after getting acquainted with the environment and the local contexts, one thing was sure, the project has to blend into its environment.

'To achieve this, local environmental characteristics, climate, ecology and cultural context have all been studied and play a major role in the process.

'The project, however, doesn't only want to not hurt the existing environment, the vision of the Blue Frontiers [is to] facilitate the development of more conscious and balanced settlements at sea where humans can peacefully coexist with the environment and with each other.'

The overall shape of the construction reflected the pattern of a fish hook, an ancestral tool that symbolises the actions of the demigod Maui.

Larger platforms with mixed-use buildings aligned to the celestial pillar Pou, starting from the main platform, the 'star headlight' or Ta'urua, and ending by the guide star Avei'a, passing through the zenith of the floating island.

Draft legislation will be drawn up this year and construction is expected to begin in 2019. Floating islands would feature aquaculture farms, healthcare, medical research facilities, and sustainable energy powerhouses

The larger platforms would be oriented according to the prevailing wind direction, in order to create calmer wave conditions behind them.

The project aims to include Polynesian culture in the design and detailing of buildings and other structures. 

Local construction techniques and materials would be blended with modern technologies to fulfil contemporary needs while preserving continuity with tradition.

Speaking in November, Joe Quirk, president of the Seasteading Institute, said he wanted to see 'thousands' of rogue floating cities by 2050, each of them 'offering different ways of governance'.

The first city would be built on a network of 11 rectangular and five-sided platforms so the city could be rearranged according to its inhabitants' needs like a floating jigsaw, Joe Quirk, spokesman for the project explained last year

A feasibility report by Dutch engineering firm Deltasync in January 2017 said the square and pentagon platforms would measure 164ft (50metres) in length and they would have 164 ft-tall (50 metre) sides to protect buildings and residents

'Governments just don't get better,' Mr Quirk told the New York Times.

'They're stuck in previous centuries. That's because land incentives a violent monopoly to control it.'   

First revealed in January, the plans have been approved by the French Polynesian government, which is now creating a special economic zone so the floating nation can operate under its own trade laws.

The tiny nation, a collection of 118 islands in the southern Pacific with a population just over 200,000, has granted the Seasteading Institute 100 acres of beachfront to operate from.

French Polynesia is interested in the project as the area is at risk from rising sea levels. 

The feasibility report supported the idea that the project is economically feasible, with each platform costing less than $15 million (£10 million) which works out at a similar price as land in London or New York

#10: TrES-2b — The Dracula Planet

Our first stop is the pitch black planet TrES-2b. This gas giant’s atmosphere is less reflective than coal, but as hot as the hottest Earth-born lava. These two odd properties give the planet an eerie red glow, so if you’re a fan of horror stories and Lovecraftian lore, then this might be the perfect stop for you.

Pros: It’s the perfect setting for any of your spooky Halloween parties or vampire cult get-togethers.
Cons: While the red glow may deliver the spooky vibe you’re after, it will also reduce your party to ash as soon as you arrive.

#9: Kepler-36c/b — That’s no moon!

Second on this journey are the two planets Kepler-36 C and B. These celestial bodies pass by each other at a distance that’s roughly four times the distance between Earth and the Moon — thereby providing a remarkable view of either planet from the other’s surface.

Pros: A beautiful view of either planet as they pass each other like ships in the night.
Cons: This view will likely be your last, as neither planet is anywhere near hospitable.

#8: OGLE-2005-BLG-390 — Love the snow? This one is nicknamed ‘Hoth’

Are you a fan of the snow, always looking for the freshest slope? Then OGLE-2005-BLG-390, nicknamed ‘Hoth’, is the exoplanet for you! At negative 220 degrees Celsius, this planet is in a perpetual deep freeze — presumably creating endless slopes for you to carve up.

Pros: It’s an entire planet of slopes for you and your crew to cruise down on your space skis.
Cons: On the other hand, the lack of atmosphere an precipitation means it’s likely solid ice — just like you’d be shortly after arrival.

#7: PSR B1257+12 system — A light show to die for

The Aurora Borealis is one of Earth’s greatest sights, but it’s a firefly in the night compared to the light shows caused by PSR B1257+12. This pulsar is the remnants of a star gone supernova, which constantly whips the planets around it with tendrils of radiation — causing planet-wide lights in the sky.

Pros: This place boasts the most impressive auroras you’ll ever see.
Cons: Your DNA would immediately be scrambled and fried by the astronomical levels of radiation.

#6: 55 Cancri e — An intergalactic prospector’s dream

Are you a more adventurous type, lusting for the days of old when you could make your fortune on the frontier? Then get your gear together and head to 55 Cancri e, a planet whose composition is largely carbon. This makeup results in the planet being almost entirely made of precious metals, both inside and out.

Pros: The potential to become a space mining tycoon with zillions of blemflarcks (or whatever currency we use in the future)
Cons: All those precious metals are hot as hell and currently in liquid form, so good luck with that!

#5: Kepler-16b — Where your shadow will never be lonely

Kepler-16b itself is not especially interesting, but what it’s orbiting definitely is. This exoplanet orbits two stars. That’s right folks, not one, but TWO stars. Look forward to never before seen sunsets and sunrises, and a pal for your shadow.

Pros: A one in a million sky. Woo any potential partner with a romantic picnic beneath a double sunset.
Cons: Unfortunately the planet itself is VERY cold, even with two stars. Let’s just say you’re going to need a LOT of picnic blankets.

#4: Wasp 12 b — A crumbling planet being eaten by its sun

For those of you looking for a bit more of an extreme sightseeing experience, Wasp 12 b is everything you could ask for. This planet is slowly being “eaten” by its star, and the side facing the star is crumbling and forming a ring of debris along its orbit. If you’re into those high budget scenes in apocalypse movies, you’re going to LOVE this.

Pros: Probably the most metal thing you will ever see in your life.
Cons: This should be obvious, but if the planet is dissolving, you’re not going to do too well yourself.

#3: Kepler-452b — Earth’s bigger, older cousin

So death defying sights and experiences aren’t your thing, and you’re looking for a new place or a summer home? Welcome to Kepler-452b: Earth’s bigger, older cousin. With a 385 day orbit, a rocky exterior, and 60% more mass than Earth; it’s a new frontier that’s both vast and vaguely familiar.

Pros: Finding your own special place won’t be hard with all this space, and the years are just about the same length as Earth’s.
Cons: Aside from that, the place is pretty boring. As far as we know, it’s the only planet orbiting this star, and has no moons. It’s also 1400 light years away, so say goodbye to your fam here on Earth.

#2: Proxima B — Only a hop, skip, and four light years away

Unlike our last home away from home, Proxima B orbits Proxima Centauri: the closest star to our Sun, which sits just a few short light years away. With a rocky red exterior like our neighbor Mars and a member of the infamous Alpha Centauri system, this could be your summer getaway to your own red skied paradise.

Pros: It’s only four light years away, making it the best candidate for potential colonization. There’s also a red landscape that gives it that homey Mars feel, and multiple nearby stars in the sky,.
Cons: Unfortunately, signs for this planet being habitable are slim. Its star is old and radioactive, and its orbit takes only 11 days. Not to mention that it is likely tidally locked like our moon. Bummer.

#1: Trappist-1 System — A fistfull of Earths

Welcome to the Trappist-1 system, seven tightly bundled planets orbiting an ultra-cool dwarf star, and are all suspected to harbor rocky surfaces. Due to the nature of this system’s sun, it’s possible that the majority of these planets harbor liquid water as well — making this system a treasure trove of habitable planets.

If that isn’t enough to wet your whistle, these planets are also VERY close to each other. Close enough that while standing on any of them, other planets would be near enough that you could see clouds and large geological features with your naked eyes.

As most of these planets are potentially habitable, you’d get your pick of the litter when it comes time to settle down and build a colony. For these reasons, the Trappist-1 system comes thundering into first place on our list of Top Ten Exoplanets.

Pros: Multiple planets to settle, liquid water, non gaseous planets, and close interplanetary proximity. It also has a really neat sky, and isn’t near anything that’s going to kill you — like a black hole or a radiation-spewing pulsar.

Cons: Two big things: this system is 39 light years away, and it’s suspected that all of these planets are tidally locked due to their proximity to their star — meaning the weather on each planet would be wildly unlike Earth’s.

UFO-shaped cloud appears over tower block – people in FRENZY

BIZARRE footage of a flying saucer-shaped cloud has appeared, sparking speculation of alien life.

In the footage, a circular cloud can be seen over a tower block. 

And it looks very similar to a flying saucer, rising higher in the sky. 

The strange object continues to move over the tower block, leaving the cameraman in stunned silence. 

This was captured in the Russian capital Moscow – and has sparked furious debate on social media about whether alien life has arrived.

“I also spotted some weird-looking clouds in the city centre that day but I thought I imagined it,” one viewer commented.  

“I wonder what will happen next?!"

Another added: "I've been seeing things like that on the skyline for a while now but previously they seemed a little less distinct. So does that actually mean that aliens do exist?"

While a third made a chilling prediction. 

"This is the end, isn’t it,” they said.

But meteorologists put these claims to bed very quickly. 

The UFO cloud is believed to have been an unusually-shaped cumulus, a fluffy low level cloud.

Some observers speculated that it might have been a lenticular cloud.

Terwijl ze dit doen, komt er plotsklaps een vreemd wezen tevoorschijn uit de begroeiing langs de kant van de weg. 

Enkele dagen geleden rijdt de Franstalige Canadees Audrée Tanguay Fréchette samen met zijn gezin in de buurt van de plaats Gaspésie in Quebec. 

Ze zien vanuit hun auto opeens een eland langs de kant van de weg en stoppen om deze te filmen, wanneer er plotseling iets tevoorschijn komt uit de begroeiing langs de kant van de weg. 

Het ziet er als volgt uit:

Volgens sommigen hebben we hier te maken met wat men een alien creature pleegt te noemen. Een voor ons mensen onbekend iets dat grote overeenkomsten vertoont met eerder waargenomen wezens.

De maker van de video heeft naar eigen zeggen geen flauw idee wat het is en vraagt het publiek om hulp bij het oplossen van het raadsel.

Omdat de video vrij kort is en het allemaal nogal snel gaat, hierbij een tweede video over hetzelfde met daarin de nodige slow motion opnamen. 

 

Niet iedereen die bovenstaande opnames heeft gezien is er van overtuigd dat het een alien is. 

Er zijn een aantal mensen die suggereren dat het een vuiltje is op het raam van de auto. Daarentegen lijkt het wezen in het begin van de video heel snel te bewegen. 

Iemand anders merkt op dat het niet echt kan zijn, omdat de eland niet schrikt en gewoon door blijft grazen. 

Het is in ieder geval dermate interessant dat de Engelse krant Daily Mirror dit wil publiceren.

One of the formative experiences of my childhood which I credit with launching my interest in aerial phenomena and astronomy was the 1997 visit of comet Hale-Bopp. For a few magical weeks, my father would walk me to the end of our street each night where we had a perfect view of the eerie fireball hanging in the night sky. I credit that comet (along with a healthy dose of pop culture) with instilling in the much younger me a sense of wonder about the universe and what might lie unseen just at the edges of our knowledge.

For others, the comet represented something else entirely. For a few dozen seekers in California, the arrival of the comet was seen as the coming of a spacecraft meant to take their souls to a new life on some non-terrestrial plane. The only hitch was they would have to commit suicide in order to board this “spacecraft.” Between March 24 and 26, 1997, thirty-nine members of the Heaven’s Gate cult led by Marshall Applewhite asphyxiated themselves with the aid of Phenobarbital-laced applesauce and vodka, believing their souls would then travel to the Hale-Bopp comet/spacecraft en route to a new level of existence. All were found with a five-dollar bill and three quarters in their pockets and were wearing identical black sweat suits and brand new black-and-white Nike Decades.

Not exactly the kind of press Nike looks for. But hey – no press is bad press. But maybe this was bad press.

Whether or not the cultists reached their cult-y space nirvana aboard the comet is anyone’s guess (spoiler alert: they didn’t). Two of the Heaven’s Gate members survived though, choosing not to participate in the suicide pact for unknown reasons. Today, the strange and unfortunate story of Heaven’s Gate has become a recurring topic in pop culture.

Which is why Heaven’s Gate is suddenly back in the news. The two anonymous surviving members of the suicidal UFO cult are currently threatening legal action against trap rap artist Lil Uzi Vert. Lil Uzi Vert (real name Symere Woods) recently released artwork on Instagram for his upcoming album Eternal Atake, featuring a design quite reminiscent of Heaven’s Gate’s keyhole-in-space logo. In response, the two surviving Heaven’s Gate members issued the following statement:

He is using and adapting our copyrights and trademarks without our permission and the infringement will be taken up with our attorneys. This is not fair use or parody, it it a direct and clear infringement.

It turns out Lil Uzi Vert has even changed his Instagram username to “Marshall Applewhite” in the past. Is this merely a case of pop culture appropriation done in poor taste, or has Lil Uzi Vert bought one too many pairs of black-and-white Nike Decades? The courts will decide.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s reputation as the number-one resting place for alien entities with distinctly bad flying skills is legendary in UFO research circles. Insiders and whistle-blowers talk about off-limits hangars and the The Blue Room. Supposedly, they are rooms, buildings, and underground bunkers that are home to the carefully-preserved remains of numerous dead extraterrestrials – if one has the correct, high-level security. If the stories are true, of course.

It turns out that, for years, Puerto Rico allegedly had its very own equivalent: the Roosevelt Roads Naval Station. But it wasn’t alien bodies that were cryogenically housed at Roosevelt Roads. Nope: it was a bunch of dead chupacabras. There just might even have been a couple of living ones there, too. So, at least, I was told on several of my excursions to Puerto Rico, between 2004 and 2015. I was not surprised to find that sifting fact from fiction, and legend from rumor, proved to be a very difficult job when it came to trying to unravel the controversial truth about Roosevelt Roads’ chupacabra stash.

The origins of Roosevelt Roads date back to just one year after the end of the First World War. It was 1919 when the then Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Navy visited Puerto Rico. That man was none other than a future American president: Franklin D. Roosevelt. The visit was no vacation, however. Roosevelt was there on a secret mission. He was focused on finding a suitable location where a military facility could be constructed, one that could act as a strategic outpost for Uncle Sam in the Caribbean. Roosevelt toured the island, finally pinpointing a northeast town called Ceiba, which was founded back in the 1830s, and that, today, has a population of around 13,000.

At the time, while the creation of such a base – with an airfield – could have been beneficial, it was not perceived as absolutely crucial. Things changed dramatically, however, when crazed, evil nutcase Adolf Hitler came to power in 1930s-era Germany. The world was soon to face complete and utter carnage, the likes of which it had never before seen, or since. Steps had to be taken to combat the Nazi threat. One of those steps was the creation of Roosevelt Roads, which began in 1940, one year before the terrible events at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii occurred. Roosevelt Roads ultimately became the biggest U.S. Navy base on the planet and the headquarters of the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command (NAVSO). It remained so for decades.

On our visit to Puerto Rico in July 2004 with a crew from the SyFy Channel, monster-hunter Jon Downes and I heard a story of a UFO crash in the hills of Canovanas in 1957, one which reportedly, and quickly, led to gross mutations in the local populace. On his first trek around the island, back in 1998, Jon himself was given a number of independent accounts of this 1957 event. One of Jon’s sources was a man named Reuben, a Puerto Rican brought up in New York, but who returned to the island as an adult. Arguably, Reuben was Jon’s most significant source, since he personally took Jon and a team from the U.K.’s Channel 4 TV crew to the very spot in Canovanas where, he claimed, the craft from another world slammed into the ground, back in 1957.

Jon told me that they came to a big clearing where the path became narrow, and, on one side, disappeared altogether, into a huge saucer-shaped arena. This, according to what Reuben had to say, at least, was where the UFO had crashed. Admittedly, there was a huge indent in the side of the mountain, said Jon. No trees grew there, and it did look as if some huge object had crashed into the mountain, scooping out trees and vegetation and leaving a bare area intermittently covered with patchy grass. Returning to 2004…

While on Puerto Rico, Jon and I met with a woman named Norka, a Chupacabra witness and someone who had heard of this 1957 tale, too. This was not surprising, given that it’s hardly an unknown case among the people of Puerto Rico. Norka told us that most people identified the location as a steep hillside in Canovanas, one that military forces quickly sealed off, for a period of around three weeks. Time constraints unfortunately prevented us from taking Norka to the location identified by Reuben back in 1998, but Norka’s description of the place strongly suggested they were one and the same. There was something else too: most of those that had commented on the incident – specifically when I returned to Puerto Rico in 2008 – said that when the UFO was accessed by the military they found within it the dead bodies of a number of unearthly creatures: Chupacabras.

There is also a story of a UFO crashing in the heart of El Yunque in February 1984. I know that, because the basics of the account have reached me on three occasions over more than the past decade. It was early one morning when a large, circular-shaped object slammed into the ground, immediately after flying over the rain forest in a decidedly erratic fashion. To prevent people from learning the truth of the matter, a diversionary tactic was put into place that the UFO was a meteorite. Military personnel were soon on the scene – in part, to scoop up the pummeled body-parts of a couple of dead chupacabras, whose lives came to sudden and bloody ends when the alien craft hurtled violently into the forest at high speed. That’s how the story goes, anyway.

To this day, I don’t really know what to make of all this. Some of the people I spoke with came across as completely truthful and credible. Others admitted that their stories were not just second-hand, but third- and even fourth-hand, which is definitely not a good thing. I still find the stories interesting, but it will take a hell of a lot more to convince me that there are dead Chupacabras secretly hidden somewhere on Puerto Rico. Or deep below it…

Le mardi 31 juillet 2018, dans la mâtinée, un témoin s’est réveillé et a vu un objet non identifié planer dans le ciel pendant plus de 45 minutes dans son quartier de Tamarac, une ville de l’État de Floride.

Miguel Rodriguez, qui vit dans le village de Vanguard, a vu cette lumière apparaître dans le sud-est vers 5h35 du matin. Il a rapidement décidé de commencer à la filmer entre 5h50 et 6h00 du matin. La lumière est restée dans le ciel et 30 minutes plus tard sa femme lui a envoyé une vidéo de cet OVNI qui planait toujours au même endroit.

« Il y a avait des orbes rouges et oranges qui tournaient autour de cet objet volant. Celles-ci semblaient être indépendantes de l’objet lui-même. De plus, il y avait un autre objet moins visible au-dessus », a déclaré Rodriguez.

Il a dit que l’activité entre Tamarac et Coral Springs a été étrange ces dernières années et ce n’était pas la première fois qu’il observait une telle activité surnaturelle.

Il possède une vidéo prise il y a quelques années quand il vivait à Coral Springs. Ces images montraient des orbes rouges / oranges volant à très grande vitesse dans le ciel. Toute sa famille avait été témoin de ce phénomène inexpliqué.

Rodriguez aimerait maintenant savoir si d’autres personnes ont vu cet objet ou possèdent de meilleures images.

Il conclut :

« Je crois que c’est un OVNI. J’en suis vraiment persuadé. Il n’y a pas d’autre explication. »

Fewer people are reporting UFO sightings – and experts suspect it's because reports are being 'intercepted by the government'

• But Head of the National UFO Reporting Center Peter Davenport suggested reports could be being intercepted too.

Reports of UFO sightings has been in massive decline for the past few years. According to data from US-based NUFORC (National UFO Reporting Center) the slump started in 2014, after years of increased sightings.

Since the 1990s, the overall number of UFO observations steadily increased, reaching a peak of 8,670 reports in 2014. After that, it all went quickly downhill, as this infographic from Statista.com shows.

NUFORC didn't have a website in the 1990s, so it makes sense that there were fewer reports received at that time, but since 2014, the number of observations at NUFORC fell to 5,500 in 2016. This figure fell again to 4,500 in 2017, and — while 2018 isn't over yet — it now stands at 1,329 reports .

Although this is still considerably more than any figure recorded in the 90s, it must be stressed that that period was pre-internet, so reports weren't yet being received via the website. This only makes the decline after 2014 all the more striking.

It's true that such incidents are more commonplace than in the 90s, but why the number has fallen so sharply after 2014 remains a mystery. Have extraterrestrial beings lost interest in us? Are we not looking carefully enough? Or is there a better explanation?

It's largely a case of guesswork but there are possible theories

"The significant decrease in the number of reports has baffled everyone investigating within the UFO field," founder and director of NUFORC Peter Davenport said to Business Insider. He's previously discussed the decline with members of the Mutual UFO Network. "They see the same trend and they're all confused by it."

According to him, there are many possible explanations. "It could just be that there are fewer and fewer incidents, but it's also possible that reports to UFO organisations are being intercepted electronically. Who would do something like that is a mystery, but if it's happening, my first suspicion would be government organisations. It's quite risky for a government to do that, but you can't rule it out, I think."

Reports of UFOs peak in 2012 due to the end of Mayan calendar

According to Alex Griffioen, one of the founders of the UFO Disclosure Office in the Netherlands, it's difficult to draw a conclusion from the NUFORC figures.

"That's just one source. A decrease in the number of reports doesn't actually equate to a drop in the number of UFO sightings. It may also mean the NUFORC website has become more difficult to find or perhaps less useful," suggested Griffioen.

The quantity of reports in the Netherlands doesn't seem to have dropped in the same way, according to Griffioen, who says the number of observations at the UFO Disclosure Office in the Netherlands peaked in 2012.

"In 2012, of course, we had the upcoming apocalypse as the end of the Mayan calendar approached," laughed Griffioen.

"The peak in our statistics around 2012 is also possibly due to certain sections of the public — who were anticipating some form of alien apocalypse — being overly alert to extraterrestrial encounters," he said.

Drones could be a likely culprit for the decrease

If the number of observations has decreased worldwide, there could be two main reasons for this according to Griffioen: "Drones are becoming cheaper and more popular, and are taking on stranger and stranger shapes every day. This applies to both military UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), professional drones for video as well as for recreational drones."

"We hear and read that they can do more and more, so people now respond to seeing strange moving lights with: 'it'll be a drone'."

Laws around commercial drones in the US have relaxed

In 2015, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began allowing companies to send drones into the air, provided they comply with certain guidelines. Amazon, for example, started delivering via drones and CNN began using UAVs to film from the air. Until 2015, this was prohibited, unless you'd received a special exemption to carry out such flights.

In December 2015, the FAA also stipulated that drones weighing over 250 grams had to be registered with the organisation, in anticipation of the holidays when it was estimated that 700,000 drones would be purchased.

According to the Consumer Technology Association, more than 2.4 million drones were sold in the US alone in 2016, more than double the figure for 2015.

Fighter jets can sometimes look strange in the sky

The chance of encountering a drone has grown considerably, which could account for people identifying what previously would have been considered a UFO as a drone.

But in fact, there's a whole plethora of things that could be mistaken for extraterrestrial objects in the night sky, ranging from fighter jets and natural phenomena like lenticular clouds, to dirt on camera lenses and unusually-shaped kites.

New Radio Telescope Just Detected A Mysterious Signal From Space

Newly built radio telescope finds a mysterious signal coming from space.

An observatory located in Canada may have already found clues to a new astronomy mystery. The new radio telescope has already picked up mysterious signals from deep space, which are known as "Fast Radio Bursts", or FRBs.

First FRB Below 700MHZ Frequency

The radio telescope, named Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) located in British Columbia, has detected the first ever FRB at a frequency below 700MHZ. The signal was located on July 25th and is named FRB 180725A.

FRB's are milliseconds-long bursts of radio signals that come from somewhere unknown in the universe. They are one of the newer cosmic discoveries, and mysteries, first being detected only a decade ago. There are some possible explanations that have been thought up already which include, bursts from magnetars, exploding black and holes and of course, advanced alien civilizations.

Not From Earth

CHIME has only been operational for less than a year, and it is designed to gather data on FRBs and other anomalies. The discovery of FRB 180725A is very preliminary. "Astronomer's Telegram" announced the discovery, attempting to encourage other astronomers to search for FRBS at all wavelengths. This announcement also states that other FRBs have been found in the last week, at frequencies even lower (400MHZ and lower) and it seems that they are not coming from Earth.

To this day, only one FRB has been found to be repeating. Known as FRB 121102, it was first discovered in 2012 and was found to repeat again in 2015. It has been traced to a dwarf galaxy about 3 billion light-years away. Researches say that whatever is emitting the signal across the universe must be immensely powerful. Could it be alien life?

Maybe a lost ancient civilization that left something turned on. Whatever it is, we may not know for a while. FRB research is still fairly new to astronomers, but hopefully, astronomers across the globe can work together to try and solve these mysterious signals.

Monstrous rogue planet spotted lurking outside our solar system

A unique and strange rouge planet has been just discovered outside of our solar system.

According to The Astrophysical Journal, this loner planet has an astounding and powerful magnetic field that is over four million times that of Earth. Additionally, the planet creates visually stunning auroras like nothing we have ever seen.

A planet with amazing magnetism and very close to Earth discovered by astronomers

This planet, known as SIMP, was first discovered two years ago. Initially, SIMP was categorized as a brown dwarf. However, recent findings suggest that SIMP is just small enough to be considered a planet.

SIMP is very hot when compared to other planets, with a surface temperature of over 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit. This is double the heat of any planet in our solar system.

The most impressive aspect of SIMP is a magnetic field that is millions of times stronger than Earth

This magnetic field contributes to the creation of stunning light shows on SIMP. However, the auroras are generated differently than on Earth.

Jupiter produced amazing auroras as well, which occurs because electrically charged particles accelerate along the magnetic fields of the planet before crashing into atoms in the upper atmosphere of Jupiter at roughly 3,000 miles per second. A similar process occurs on Earth, which we label the northern and southern lights. The process is different from Jupiter’s in that the charged particles that create the auroras on Earth come from the Sun in the form of solar wind.

Researchers believe that the creation of auroras on SIMP is more similar to that of Jupiter’s. This indicates that SIMP may have a moon.

Astronomers are excited about the discovery of SIMP, which is located just twenty light-years from the Sun because the study of the incredible magnetic force of SIMP can provide new insights regarding how magnetic fields are created in exoplanets.

The finding of SIMP also indicates new ways of discovering exoplanets, including rogue planets such as SIMP that has not been detectable in the past.

Welcome to Open Minds Magazine. In this new monthly UFO news magazine show (view above), we will take a closer look at the mystery posed by Unidentified Flying Objects, in hopes to gain a better understanding of the nature of the phenomenon and how the government, including the military, and the public react to it.

Perhaps the most thorough examination into the UFO issue was conducted by the U.S Air Force. They began their investigation in 1948. It was called Project Sign, then changed its name to Project Grudge, and finally changed its name once again to Project Blue Book.

As for the results, the Air Force states:

"As a result of these investigations and studies and experience gained from investigating UFO reports since 1948, the conclusions of Project BLUE BOOK are:(1) no UFO reported, investigated, and evaluated by the Air Force has ever given any indication of threat to our national security;(2) there has been no evidence submitted to or discovered by the Air Force that sightings categorized as "unidentified" represent technological developments or principles beyond the range of present-day scientific knowledge; and(3) there has been no evidence indicating that sightings categorized as "unidentified" are extraterrestrial vehicles."

However, upon closer examination of the thousands of files released regarding the Blue Book investigations, it becomes apparent that the Air Force's conclusions were not shared by everyone involved in the investigation, and that there were some truly fascinating cases that remain unsolved.

Often people say they will not believe in UFOs until they land on the White House lawn. Well, one of the most famous and mysterious Blue Book cases came close.

UFO sightings over Washington, DC in July 1952 made worldwide headlines and left the U.S. Air Force dazed and confused. The events spanned several days and included multiple radar identifications of unknown aircraft, some of which were correlated by witnesses on the ground. Many of the sightings caused the air force to scramble jet fighters, and in each of these cases, the UFOs outmaneuvered the jets. This all culminated into what may be the most important official U.S. Air Force UFO investigation of all time.

A large number of different types of signals comes from outer space – relic radiation, radiation of quasars, pulsars, neutron stars, etc. But there is a type of radio signals, the origin of which scientists can not explain until now.

“Fast radio bursts” – single bursts of high-frequency oscillations lasting several milliseconds. Such radio signals throw colossal energy into space. For comparison, the Sun needs more than ten thousand years to manifest such resultant activity!

The first rapid radio burst was found by Professor Duncan Lorimer in 2007. The signal came across accidentally – when analyzing the results of observations 6 years ago. The source of the radio burst is a point located three degrees from the Small Magellanic Cloud. What did the specialists come across? Nobody could explain.

A curious fact: during a detailed analysis of the data obtained by Professor Lorimer in 2007, it was found that the “rapid radio bursts” discovered by the scientist were nothing more than ordinary artifacts. Interference was caused by violation of the rules of operation of the microwave oven. The early opening of the microwave door and the specific position of the telescope are the causes of these artifacts.

However, it is still unknown what the nature of the other fast radio bursts is? The main assumptions supported by the scientific community are:

• Interference of terrestrial instruments or the development of so-called peritones that distort the signal;
• The fusion of two neutron stars, the evaporation of a black hole, as well as other exotic events of extragalactic sources;µ
• In certain circles a version is expressed that the signal is a consequence of the activity of extraterrestrial civilizations.

UV-licht zou op de recent ontdekte exoplaneten eenzelfde chemische reactie kunnen veroorzaken als bij het ontstaan van onze planeet. De temperaturen zouden gunstig genoeg zijn, waardoor ook meteen de aanwezigheid van vloeibaar water op de exoplaneten tot de mogelijkheden behoort volgens de onderzoekers. “Deze studie stelt ons in staat om de beste plaatsen voor onze zoektocht naar leven te vinden,” zegt dr. Paul Rimmer, hoofd van het onderzoeksteam.

Hetzelfde onderzoeksteam voerde eerder al een reeks experimenten uit om te achterhalen wat er gebeurt als waterstofcyanide en waterstofsulfietionen worden blootgesteld aan UV-licht. Uit de resultaten bleek dat dit proces bouwstenen opleverde om leven te vormen. Zonder UV-licht was dit niet mogelijk.

“Ik onderzocht vervolgens welke lichtdeeltjes er in de lampen zaten”, vertelt dr. Rimmer. “In een volgende stap zal dat licht vergeleken worden met het licht van verschillende sterren. Op dit moment hebben we maar één voorbeeld - de Aarde - en dus is het logisch dat we eerst naar vergelijkbare plaatsen zoeken,” verklaart de wetenschapper.

“De frictie die ontstond en nog zou kunnen ontstaan, waardoor het begin van leven mogelijk is, fascineert ons eindeloos”, zegt Sutherland, een medewerker van het onderzoeksteam. “We weten nog steeds niet precies hoe het leven is ontstaan, hoewel we al veel weten over de gunstige omstandigheden.”

Zoektocht

Bovendien is er volgens de onderzoekers een belangrijk onderscheid tussen wat “noodzakelijk” en “voldoende” is. “Bouwstenen zijn noodzakelijk, maar misschien niet voldoende: het is best mogelijk dat je de bouwstenen mixt en dat er niets zal gebeuren. Maar hoe dan ook, moet je wel zoeken naar de plekken waar de noodzakelijke bouwstenen aanwezig zijn”, klinkt het. 

Dat blijkt een aartsmoeilijke opdracht voor wetenschappers. Ons waarneembaar universum telt immers zo’n 700 miljoen triljoen planeten.

Mysterious gigantic rogue planet spotted lurking outside our solar system

In the first radio-telescope detection of a planetary-mass object beyond our solar system, astronomers have found the strange celestial body has 12.7 times the mass of Jupiter. It doesn’t appear to orbit a parent star, however, and is only 20 light-years away from Earth.

“This object is right at the boundary between a planet and a brown dwarf, or ‘failed star,’ and is giving us some surprises that can potentially help us understand magnetic processes on both stars and planets,” study lead astronomer Melodie Kao said.

A brown dwarf is an object too large to be a planet, but isn’t big enough to sustain the nuclear fusion of hydrogen in its core that is vital to stars.

The object, which has been named SIMP J01365663+0933473, was first detected in 2016, but was thought to be a brown dwarf. The latest data reveals it’s younger than first thought at a relatively youthful 200 million years old, and its mass is smaller, so it could be classified as a planet. Its temperature is also far cooler than the sun, at 825 degrees Celsius. It also has a strong magnetic field, 200 times the strength of Jupiter.

The researchers were able to pick up on the object’s magnetic activity using a powerful radio astronomy observatory called the Very Large Array, a National Science Foundation facility in New Mexico. 

The methods used suggest the researchers may have “a new way of detecting exoplanets, including the elusive rogue ones not orbiting a parent star,” researcher Gregg Hallinan said.

Het is dan ook niet zo vreemd dat de werkelijke machthebbers ons via hun geld laten weten dat zij degenen zijn die controle hebben en dat wij als slavenvolk helemaal niets hebben in te brengen. 

Waar dit heel duidelijk zichtbaar wordt is op de Amerikaanse dollarbiljetten, waar je altijd de beruchte piramide ziet met het alziende oog. Echter, wanneer je kijkt naar het één dollar biljet, dan zie je daar naast de piramide nóg een symbool, wat op het eerste gezicht vrij onschuldig lijkt totdat je het biljet oprolt.

Je ziet zonder enige twijfel de bekende vorm van een alien gezicht met de grote en langgerekte schedel. Daarnaast zie je in het midden van het voorhoofd het bekende Derde Oog, waarschijnlijk een aanwijzing dat dit wordt gebruikt om contact te maken met “de andere wereld”. 

Als ze aan de ene kant van het biljet laten zien via het Alziende Oog dat ze de wereld onder controle hebben, dan kun je er vergif op innemen dat het symbool ernaast ook een betekenis heeft.

Hierna volgt een deel van het artikel dat wij daar destijds (2014) over schreven: 

We hebben het afgelopen jaar al vele schokkende onthullingen gehoord van Karen Hudes, advocate en klokkenluider van de Wereldbank.

Nu komt ze wederom met een schokkende bericht. Want, diep verborgen in het Vaticaan bevindt zich een voor ons volkomen onbekende mensensoort. 

Het zijn geen buitenaardsen, maar een ander soort mens die al heel lang op deze aarde zijn. Je vindt over de hele aardbol aanwijzingen van hun eerdere beschavingen en hun geschiedenis gaat minimaal terug tot de ijstijd. 

Door de geschiedenis heen is een groot deel van deze mensensoort verdwenen, ondermeer doordat het zeewaterniveau gedurende die tijd honderden meters is gestegen. 

Deze mensen zijn een totaal ander soort dan wij zijn, hebben grote schedels en grote hersenen. Hun DNA is zo compleet anders dan die van ons dat het mengen van de twee rassen volkomen onvruchtbare exemplaren zou opleveren. Karen zegt dat ze dit weet omdat hun DNA onlangs is getest. 

Het schijnt niet echt een aardige mensensoort te zijn. Deze Homo Capensis zoals zij ze noemt, proberen de andere soort, wij dus, onder controle te houden door een verdeel en heers tactiek, daarbij gebruikmakend van ons geldsysteem. 

Eenzelfde tactiek hebben ze gevolgd gebruikmakend van religie. Georganiseerde godsdiensten waarbij het doel is dat mensen die een ander geloof aanhangen dan anderen elkaar gaan haten waardoor ze elkaar zullen afmaken. 

Via het Vaticaan gebruiken ze de mensheid alsof het vee is en dit gebeurt al gedurende onze hele geschiedenis. 

De interviewer die met haar in gesprek is gegaan hoofdzakelijk om te praten over geldzaken is dan ook behoorlijk van slag door deze onthullingen. Zij verzekert hem dat wat ze vertelt honderd procent de waarheid is. Dit komt uit de mond van een ontwikkelde vrouw die topfunkties heeft bekleed.

Voor diegenen die niet de hele video willen bekijken en beluisteren; het deel waar ze vertelt over de vreemde mensensoort begint rond minuut 23. 

Misschien dat er binnenkort meer informatie beschikbaar komt via Karen over deze totaal onbekende mensensoort.

Enkele jaren later (2016) kwam er wederom iemand uit de financiële wereld die opperde dat het weleens buitenaardsen kunnen zijn die de volledige controle over de wereld hebben. Dat was voormalig Wall Street bankier Catherine Austin Fitts. 

Hierna volgt een deel uit dat artikel: 

Voormalig Wall Street bankier en overheidsmedewerker Catherine Austin Fitts is na jaren en jaren onderzoek tot de conclusie gekomen dat het heel goed mogelijk is dat de wereldwijde schuld verschuldigd is aan entiteiten van buiten deze aarde. 

Zo zegt ze: 

“Is de aarde een open of een gesloten economie? Ik ben naar de business-school geweest, ik heb elf jaar op Wall Street gewerkt en weet je, ik ben mijn leven lang bezig geweest met economie en de hele tijd werd mij voorgehouden dat de aarde een gesloten economisch systeem heeft. Dus, als wij schuld creëren, dan zijn wij dit schuldig aan andere mensen. Als wij aandelen uitgeven, dan zijn andere mensen eigenaar van die aandelen. 

Maar, als je kijkt naar al de economische ervaring die ik heb gehad in overheidsdienst, in het zakenleven en bij de bank, dan zal ik je vertellen dat ik, als je mij vraagt om het economische model op aarde te verklaren, het volgende zal zeggen: “De planeet aarde is een onroerend goed investeringsfonds, omdat we ieder jaar een dividend uitkeren en ik weet niet waar het naartoe gaat”. 

Catherine weet het antwoord op die vraag ook niet, maar feit is dat er ieder jaar een fiks deel van de wereldproductiviteit in het niets verdwijnt. Het verdwijnt en wordt nergens verantwoord. 

Zelfs overheidsinstanties die moeten bijhouden wat er met het geld gebeurt, kunnen deze vraag niet beantwoorden. Het geld verdwijnt eenvoudigweg, de schuld groeit exponentieel en niemand kan verklaren wie de begunstigde is. 

Catherine zegt verder: “Ik was in staat om fantastische statistieken boven water te halen over wie de schuld had uitgegeven, maar wat ik ook deed, ik kwam er niet achter wie de eigenaar is van die schuld. 

Ik weet dat ze controle hebben. En zij hebben controle door de schuld, want dat is hoe je op onzichtbare wijze controle krijgt over een bedrijf. 

Wie is eigenaar van de schuld? Zijn het mensen of is het iets of iemand anders?” 

“Sommige mensen zeggen dat goud de valuta is, waardoor wij over de hele planeet kunnen handelen, maar hoe ik ook probeer, ik kom er niet achter hoeveel goud er is op aarde. Jarenlang heb ik geprobeerd om dit uit te zoeken, maar het lukt mij niet.

In 2011 manipuleerde iemand de prijs van goud naar beneden en bracht toen de grootste goudhoeveelheid ooit in de open economie. Er is niemand op onze aarde die een dergelijk astronomisch grote transactie kan verklaren. 

Dus, wie is er eigenaar van de schuld van de wereld? Wordt de zogenaamde elite van deze wereld op hun beurt ook bedolven onder schuldenlasten verschuldigd aan.....

Are you one of those people who hates Elon Musk or are you one of his fans? Those groupings seem to vary in size based on whether you judge him on his electric car company, his space company, his immense wealth, his personal life, his politics or his controversial statements about cave rescues. This story involves his philosophy on creating a colony on Mars and his disagreement with NASA on how to make that happen. Should we start a new group?

This week, a study was published in the journal Nature Astronomy which looked at the feasibility of creating an atmosphere on Mars that would allow humans to live there without a need for pressurized suits or breathing devices. That artificial transformation to a heavier atmosphere, called terraforming, might also increase the surface temperature, keep water thawed and allow plants to grow, consuming CO2 and releasing oxygen. This would take living on Mars from a tremendous pain to a pleasant movie plot. Is it possible?

An idea has been bandied about recently that the existing CO2 stored in rocks and the Martian ice caps could be enough to facilitate terraforming the Martian atmosphere. The study points out the problems. Besides the obvious fact that it would have to be done quickly, like over a few year period, it appears from recent data that there’s nowhere near enough CO2 anywhere on or in Mars to create an atmosphere. Goodbye working outside on your potato farm in the Martian sunshine wearing a T-shirt and shorts – hello living in conditions that make Antarctica look balmy.

Not so fast, says Elon. In a tweet, he responded to the study by saying:

“There’s a massive amount of CO2 on Mars adsorbed into soil that’d be released upon heating. With enough energy via artificial or natural (sun) fusion, you can terraform almost any large, rocky body.”

He doesn’t say why his data on soil CO2 is different than NASA’s. Many may remember that his plan for “artificial” fusion to terraform Mars quickly involved dropping a thermonuclear bomb on it. Would the atmosphere be in place and the radiation dissipated by 2024 when he sees his first Mars mission occurring? As always, Elon gives himself an out – and in this case it’s the same one used in the study … these assessments are based on using today’s known technology, not the unknown new ones that might be developed soon.

Do you trust NASA and its scientists with years of study and tons of data from Mars missions … or do you trust Elon Musk and his nuclear terraforming? Whichever you choose, it would be wise to consider that we’re not doing such a great job forming our own terra.

There is no doubt whatsoever that the provisions of the Freedom of Information Acts of a number of nations have led to the declassification of interesting and intriguing documentation on UFOs. The FBI, for example, has an entire section at its website (The Vault) where you can find its once-classified papers on UFOs – and on other mystery-filled topics too, such as ESP and cattle-mutilations (see this link for the list). Sometimes, however, asking the wrong question, when filing a Freedom of Information request, can result in a “no records found” reply. Such a response usually occurs when a person provides the relevant agency with inaccurate, or way too brief, data when filing that request. But, the “no records found” angle also applies to government inquiries too, as we shall now see.

Back in the early-to-mid 1990s, the Government Accountability Office (at the time, called the General Accounting Office) dug deep into the matter of what happened back in Lincoln County, New Mexico in the summer of 1947. I am, of course, talking about the controversial “Roswell Incident.” The GAO was prompted by the request of the late Congressman Steven Schiff(for New Mexico). Working on Schiff’s request, the GAO prepared and released a report that, in part, stated the following:

“Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on the 1947 weather balloon crash at Roswell Air Field, New Mexico, focusing on: (1) the requirements for reporting air accidents similar to the Roswell crash; and (2) any government records concerning the Roswell crash. GAO found that: (1) in 1947, Army regulations required that air accident reports be maintained permanently and although none of the military services filed a report on the Roswell incident, there was no requirement in 1947 to prepare a report on the weather balloon crash; (2) although some of the records concerning Roswell activities had been destroyed, there was no information available regarding when or under what authority the records were destroyed; (3) only two government records originating in 1947 have been recovered regarding the Roswell incident; (4) a 1947 Federal Bureau of Investigations record revealed that the military had reported that an object resembling a high-altitude weather balloon with a radar reflector had been recovered near Roswell; and (5) a 1947 Air Force report noted the recovery of a flying disc that was later determined by military officials to be a radar-tracking balloon.”

All of the above shows that the GAO certainly did dig deep into the July 1947 affair that has become so famous. It could be argued, however, that the GAO didn’t find anything substantial because the wrong approach was taken. And, as a result it was a case of “no records found” (or hardly any). I’ll explain what I mean by this. Consider what the GAO said about the CIA’s search for any and all files on matters relative to the “Roswell Incident.” The GAO stated the following:

“In March 1995, the CIA’s Executive Director responded to our letter of inquiry by stating that earlier searches by the CIA for records on unidentified flying objects produced no information pertaining to the Roswell crash. The Executive Director added, however, that it was unclear whether the CIA had ever conducted a search for records specifically relating to Roswell. In the absence of such assurance, the Executive Director instructed CIA personnel to conduct a comprehensive records search for information relating to Roswell. On May 30, 1995, the CIA’s Executive Director informed us that a search against the term ‘Roswell, New Mexico,’ in all CIA databases produced no CIA documents related to the crash.”

Note that the CIA, when going through its databases, searched on the words “Roswell, New Mexico.” Taking into consideration the fact that the 1947  incident itself actually occurred a couple of hours’ drive from the city of Roswell, then the chances are slim that the CIA would have found anything that tied “Roswell, New Mexico” with the ’47 event itself. The fact is that the onlyconnection between the incident and Roswell – the city – is that it was the military personnel from the old Roswell Army Air Field who were dispatched to secure the site and recover the materials found at the site. Other than that, the incident itself actually has no connection to Roswell, whatsoever. For the record, I don’t at all think the CIA lied when it said that it could not find anything on Roswell. What I do think, though, is that a search of something far beyond just “Roswell, New Mexico” might well have uncovered something of significance. Perhaps terms like “Aircraft incident, July 1947,” “Unknown object, Lincoln County,” and so on, might have worked – at least, to a degree.

For the record, the CIA also searched on the term “Project Mogul” – Mogul being the secret balloon-based program that the U.S. Air Force concluded was responsible for what came down on the Foster Ranch. But, if what came down was not a huge Mogul array, then, of course, nothing relative to the crash would be found in CIA databases anyway.

Much the same can be said about my 2010 book, Final Events. One specific part of the book is relevant to this article. As I note in the book itself, one of the interviewees told me that the term “Collins Elite” was specifically the group’s “informal” name. It was an informal name that they used, I was told, when speaking with others who may not have had full clearance on what the CE was doing, which included personnel from the NSA and CIA. And people like me, too, one could suggest.

A good argument can be made that if – as was specifically made clear to me, and as I revealed in the book itself, eight years ago – the group has an “informal” title (the Collins Elite), then logic almost certainly dictates that it also has a “formal” name too – which is probably highly-classified, and which is probably why people have not had success, via FOIA,  in finding the group by using the term, “Collins Elite.” For the record, numerous worldwide agencies have both informal and formal names. For example, the NSA is known as “The Fort.” The U.K.’s Secret Intelligence Service is referred to as “Legoland.” Russia’s GRU is “The Aquarium.” “The Company” is the CIA’s nickname. And the list goes on.

As all of the above demonstrates, filing a FOIA request – or even getting an agency like the GAO to pursue the Roswell affair – may not work. Not because of a cover-up, but as a result of asking the wrong questions or using the wrong terms. Bureaucracy is sometimes the cause of what is so often perceived as conspiracy.

Australia’s most infamous ape-man was reportedly seen in Queensland this week, and the timing of the sighting coincided with another infamously anomalous event. Could the two be related?

On Monday, July 30, Katrina Ayers was driving north of Roma on the Carnarvon Highway, taking her time to avoid hitting kangaroos which happened to be in the road. While cruising at a slow, safe speed, Ayers spotted what she thought was a large rock by the side of the road. As she got closer, she reports, the “rock” stood up, revealing itself to be a large hairy humanoid creature standing over a kangaroo carcass. Ayers estimates the beast stood roughly 152 centimeters (5 feet) tall and described its hair as auburn-colored. Ayers shared the sighting with the Australian Yowie Research group, which posted Ayers’ description of the incident to their Facebook page.

Has Yowie developed a taste for kangaroo meat?

While a single eyewitness’ testimony usually isn’t noteworthy, the timing of the Yowie sighting may add a bit of weirdness to this incident. On the same day as this reported Yowie encounter, numerous eyewitnesses reported a strange object streaking luminously across the Queensland sky leaving a trail of green fire behind it. Some witnesses reported the fireball as a “big bright white and yellow ball with an amazing tail of blue green orange and white assumingly burning gases,” descriptions which would seem to imply a meteor or asteroid burning up in the atmosphere.

Green fireballs are a common subject of UFO reports.

Others, however, described the unidentified aerial phenomenon as a “dark rectangular object” leaving a “jet flame” in its wake. One onlooker even described the object as “like nothing he had seen before” and moving in ways which implied “advanced technology due to its maneuverability.” UCLA astronomer Ian MacLean, meanwhile, assured the Queensland public “with 99.99 per cent certainty” that it was merely an Aquarian or Capricornian meteor shower. However, reports of green fireballs are a common theme in UFO research, and the US military even took an interest in them at the height of the flying saucer era, finally concluding that the phenomena are likely man-made. Could this ‘meteor’ have been something else?

The US Air Force established a research project, code name Project Twinkle, to investigate green fireballs in the 1950s.

The timing of the two incidents is strange. Has Yowie upgraded its methods of transportation? Could the aboriginal ape-man actually be a kangaroo-hungry extraterrestrial stopping by for a mid-summer snack and freaking people out with his odd green spacecraft? Or could one woman’s misidentification of a kangaroo in mourning merely have coincided with a not-too-rare astronomical event?

Listen, it’s easy to laugh at moose. They’re goofy. Big spindly legs and ridiculous antlers looking like busted up satellite dishes stuck to their giant adorable faces, moose are supremely silly looking animals, it’s true. Rocky and Bullwinkle didn’t help either. But despite the laughter you can get simply by looking at a moose face, they’re one of the most dangerous animals in North America. Moose are responsible for more attacks on humans than bears and wolves combined, and when presented with an opportunity, moose will happily stomp any predator dumb enough to try for some moose meat. If I had to make a list of the animals I’d be OK with meeting in a dark alley, there’s a solid chance the a moose would be at the very bottom of that list. That is, unless this new footage out of Quebec turns out to be real.

Just ridiculous.

A video posted on YouTube recently seems to show a very strange, thin, white figure apparently stalking a large moose. Filmed by Audree Frechette, in Quebec’s Gaspé Valley who thought she was just getting some nice shots of a lone moose hanging out by the side of the road, it wasn’t until she reviewed the video that she noticed the strange something that seems to be lurking by the treeline. The strange figure sort of looks like a tall hunched-over humanoid—obvious comparisons can be drawn to Gollum from The Lord of the Rings and myriad other popular monsters—but it moves nothing like a human, appearing to almost dance back and forth too smoothly for comfort. Are there any old legends from this part of the world that fit this description? You bet there is. A classic and absolutely terrifying monster from Algonquin lore: the Wendigo. Take a look at that video and then read this description of a Wendigo from Objibwe teacher and scholar Basil Johnson:

The Wendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tightly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Wendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody [….] Unclean and suffering from suppurations of the flesh, the Wendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption.

Yeah, I’ll take death by moose over that thing any day of the week.

I could probably take him.

Perhaps the strangest thing about this video is that, while this whatever-it-is dances like a creep at the treeline, the moose seemingly doesn’t notice or doesn’t care. Both options would be pretty bizarre. The third option is much less bizarre: there’s no strange figure there at all, just a reflection on the windshield that the video was shot through and our old friend pareidolia and the shapes thousands of fictional monsters all stuck in our brains playing tricks on us. Here’s the thing: the “strange figure” moves at exactly the same speed and with the same smoothness as the camera. If you watched that video and you feel like there’s just something a little bit off about it, I think that’s what it is. Although it may indeed have a humanoid shape, it moves like a reflection.

Maybe I just don’t want there to be a supernatural moose stalking monster, much less a real Wendigo. I admit that I’m looking forward to actually enjoying camping trips in the north country and not being wracked with crippling paranoia and fear because of my chosen path in life (although that’s just about unavoidable at this point).

Case closed, no Wendigo, I’m going to forget I ever wrote this.

Last week, To the Stars Academy of Arts and Science (TTSA), Tom DeLonge’s public benefit corporation dedicated to seeking answers to the UFO mystery, announced that it was launching its “flagship” research project.

The Acquisition and Data Analysis of Materials, known as A.D.A.M., focuses on,

“the collection and scientific evaluation of material samples obtained through reliable reports of advanced aerospace vehicles of unknown origin.”

This material often referred to as ‘meta-materials,’ is usually a bizarre collection and amalgamation of alloys. Not found in nature, meta-materials are constructed from multiple elements to form composite metals. The various elements are arranged in patterns, often on the microscopic level, to manipulate electromagnetic waves. They can bend these waves, absorb them, enhance them and block them for a variety of purposes. Technologically, this is an important frontier that has been talked about a lot in physics.

Building an aircraft, for example, out of a specific meta-material which absorbs EM radiation would fundamentally make it invisible on radar, and even, with the right combination of elements, the naked eye. Perhaps you wanted to transmit a signal, like a radio wave. If the antenna used to transmit the signal is made out of this fancy new meta-material, you could fashion it using certain patterns of elements that would significantly enhance the signal and cast it across a great distance.

The A.D.A.M. project is suggesting that anomalous aerial phenomena, UFOs basically, seem to be leaving similar materials behind. Basically, little bits of unknown aerial vehicles are showing up. While stories and accounts of UFO debris fill the narrative, like a crashed flying saucer outside of Roswell, meta-materials seem to be the next big thing in UFO research. While there exists significant disagreement on the whole UFO meta-material thing, the project is being headed up by Dr. Hal Puthoff and EarthTech International.

Hal Puthoff

Dr. Puthoff has a long history in dealing with esoteric stuff, such as parapsychology and UFOs. That being said, he is an established scientist, educated at Stanford University, who focuses on exotic physics. While he has many critics, to any card-carrying member of the UFO community, he is a big name.

I reached out to Dr. Puthoff to ask him about how this whole relationship between EarthTech and To the Stars began. While there is a clear personal connection since he does serve as the Vice President of Science and Technology for To the Stars, it goes a little deeper than that.

He explained,

“Due to the widespread publicity that TTSA has received, individuals claiming possession of materials that might be from advanced aerospace vehicles of unknown origin have come forth and have agreed to provide them to TTSA for analysis.”

He went on to explain that EarthTech’s analytical equipment and its engineers have the requirements which fit this type of research and analysis. He stated,

“TTSA reached out to my organization, EarthTech International, to carry out the analysis on a contract basis, and we have agreed to do so…it is a very straightforward contractual relationship, and the results will be provided to TTSA for their dissemination as they see fit.”

Regardless of the facts, the UFO community has already begun to cry foul. On one side, many critics have suggested that To the Stars is running out of steam and this is just an attempt to keep the engine going a little longer. Others have suggested that this is just one big government conspiracy to collect up UFO meta-materials and hide them away from the public.

On the less conspiratorial side, the UFO community has been pretty divided over To the Stars Academy in general. While some individuals view it as an important step in the study and research of UFOs, others have already deemed it a failure. I personally have written several articles about this organization’s potential cultural impact on UFO discourse.

Looking at the overall history of UFO studies, what some call ‘Ufology,’ no single project or program has ever succeeded in solving the enigma. UFO reports in earlier decades used to involve saucers landing on protruding metallic legs in fields with strange looking men in jumpsuits collecting plant samples, or tall floating robots that blasted bright beams of light at witnesses. Modern-day UFO reports rarely, if ever, contain such tales anymore, at least in the United States. Assuming UFOs are a real phenomenon, it begs a serious question; do we even know what to look for?

Perhaps meta-materials are the modern-day interpretation of the phenomenon? It is not that flying saucers didn’t use to land, and that short jump-suited men didn’t collect plant samples, nor is it that light beam shooting robots weren’t real either. It may just be how the phenomenon manifested to the witnesses during that time. The famous psychologist Carl Jung stated that flying saucers were “a living myth.” Are meta-materials merely our current cultural interpretation of the mythological UFO mystery?

Furthermore, once we have become masters of meta-material technology, will the myths change? Everyone in the 1890’s viewed the mysterious airships in the American Midwest with their massive propellers as amazing technology. The invention of the airplane put an end to those sightings. It will be interesting to see what the UFO narrative and discourse looks like in two decades when meta-materials become more mainstream in everyday gadgets. Will people still be collecting hunks of UFO material in undisclosed desert landscapes in New Mexico, or will it be something new?

Does this mean that To the Stars, A.D.A.M. and Puthoff are engaged in a wild goose chase? No. They, like the rest of the UFO community, are simply working with what they think they know. Similarly, Puthoff’s critics make assumptions based on the data they currently have. If the UFO phenomenon teaches us anything, it is that nothing is static and, more importantly, nothing ought to be taken for granted. In other words, data changes, especially over time. While I have no idea if Puthoff and the A.D.A.M. project will be successful at finding otherworldly meta-materials, I am sure that the phenomenon will do its best to remain as elusive as ever.

I asked Puthoff if TTSA had any strange meta-materials in their possession. He responded,

“Materials with interesting claimed histories have been provided, but technical evaluation of them is yet to be carried out, so it is too early to say.”

As with any breakthrough, time is a major player. This project will either die emptyhanded or, hopefully, shed light on the UFO enigma. Whatever the case, I wish them the best of luck.

I’ll conclude with something UFO researcher Chris Wolford tells me on a weekly basis in regard to the UFO phenomenon, “a tsunami is coming.” People have been saying that for decades so I’m not holding my breath just yet. That being said, I did buy a life jacket on Amazon. You know, just in case.

Epic rolling wall of dust moving toward Phoenix, Arizona

A massive dust cloud descended on Phoenix, Arizona, this week, completely engulfing the Valley region and beyond.

The monsoon storm hit the area Thursday evening, bringing high winds and a foreboding wall of dust.

The epic rolling dust storm made its way to the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, where planes were forced to land in the crazy conditions.

The National Weather Service Phoenix sent out a number of dust storm warnings, saying there was “near zero visibility” in the blowing dust.

UFO Moves Over Apartments In Moscow, Russia Causing Residents To Panic, Video, UFO Sighting News.

The reason I believe this to be a UFO is;
1. This cloud rotates in a disk pattern. 
2. There is an inner circle on the bottom of the UFO.
3. As the UFO moves over the building (watch in full screen mode) the cloud is billowing out or growing more clouds to hid in! Its a tremendous amount of clouds even for a volcano!

Therefore, I have to say this is 100% a UFO.

Water UFO Seen In New Hampshire Lake Baffles Eyewitness, July 2018, Video, UFO Sighting News.

This is a under water UFO is only about one meter in diameter and has the shape of a disk, which we can make out several times in the video. Water UFOs are very rare to catch, so this sighting is very exciting to me. The craft is small, but the UFO may be controlled by AI or remote controlled from light years away. The size of the object was easy to measure compared to the objects it swam past. In the close up of the disk I see a dome area, transparent so that either passengers or electronics can watch the aquatic life below the surface.

Scientists Find What Caused The Ancient Maya Civilization To Disappear

The Ancient Maya Civilization dominated Central and South America until 800 AD.

They built supermassive astronomically aligned temples and incredible pyramids that rival in complexity the Pyramids in Egypt. However, by 1000AD, the mysterious disappeared, leaving experts wondering what happened to them.

Now, researchers say they’ve solved the mystery behind why the ancient Maya disappeared without a trace.

According to experts, the Maya civilization collapsed because of extreme, and severe droughts.

Based on these measurements, the researchers found that annual precipitation decreased between 41% and 54% relative to today during the period of the Maya civilization’s collapse, with periods of up to 70% rainfall reduction during peak drought conditions, and that relative humidity declined by 2% to 7% relative to today. The results are reported in the journal Science.

By the time the Spanish arrived in the 16th century, jungle vines were flourishing on abandoned massive ancient Pyramid cities built by the Maya.

In the past, scholars have suggested that the ancient Maya may have collapsed due to invasion by foreign powers, war, disease and a collapse in trade. However, scientists from the universities of Cambridge and Florida have found strong evidence that an extended period of drought caused devastating effects on this vast civilization.

To come to their conclusion, researchers studied water samples in Lake Chichancanab where the Maya were based. Experts measured isotopes of water in gypsum, a mineral that forms in lakes during times of drought.

As gypsum is formed, water molecules adhere to its crystalline structure, and this water records the different isotopes that were present in the ancient lake water at the time of its formation.

“The role of climate change in the collapse of Classic Maya civilization is somewhat controversial, partly because previous records are limited to qualitative reconstructions, for example, weather conditions were wetter or drier,” said Nick Evans, a Ph.D. student in Cambridge’s Department of Earth Sciences and the paper’s first author. “Our study represents a substantial advance as it provides statistically robust estimates of rainfall and humidity levels during the Maya downfall.”

Mysterious Deep Space Signal Intercepted by Astronomers May Have Been Sent By Aliens

One Explanation is Aliens. The other one, exploding black holes. The other one… exploding stars, exotic pulsars, magnetars… or maybe we just really don’t know.

A mysterious signal from deep space has been picked up by astronomers operating a brand-new $15 million telescope in Canada, marking one of only two dozen fast radio bursts ever detected.

The signal, commonly referred to as a Fast Radio Burst (FRB) lasted only a few milliseconds.

Astronomers say that this signal is unquestionably unique. The reason? The newly intercepted signal is the first radio emission intercepted from deep space, having a frequency below 700 MHz – the lowest frequency FRB ever recorded.

This led to the conclusion that whatever produced the signal –dubbed FRB 180725A—is very, very powerful.

Fast Radio Bursts aren’t really that common. In fact, the first such signal was spotted in 2007, and in eleven years, only two dozen similar events have been intercepted by experts.

Astronomers aren’t really sure what causes them. Some possible explanations include exploding black holes. However, some experts argue that advanced alien civilization could also be responsible for such signals.

Not long ago, we wrote about a study done by scientists at Harvard Universtiy who say that fast radio bursts, aka FRBs, might be leakage from planet-sized Alien transmitters powering interstellar probes in distant galaxies. “Fast radio bursts are exceedingly bright given their short duration and origin at great distances, and we haven’t identified a possible natural source with any confidence,” said theorist Avi Loeb of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. “An artificial origin is worth contemplating and checking.”

The brand-new FRB was intercepted by the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) telescope, in operation less than a year.

The Chime telescope is unique. It was built to be able to spot signals sent out when our universe was between 6 billion and 11 billion years old.

Speaking to Mail Online, Christopher Conselice, a professor of astrophysics at the University of Nottingham said that the newly intercepted FRB could help pave the way for a greater understanding of what causes FRBs.

“We don’t know their origin, they could be caused by a number of things,” he said.

“The fact the lower frequency FRB has been detected provides hope that we can understand more about where they come from and what causes them.”

“They could be caused by exploding stars, supernova, exotic stars like pulsars, magnetars, neutron stars or massive black holes at the center of distant galaxies. It could even be some other physical mechanism that we don’t yet understand.”

Thomas Jefferson was an American Founding Father and the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. He served as the third president of the United States from 1801 to 1809, and he was a man who was informed about one of the first UFO sightings in the history of the United States.

More than 200 years ago, a mysterious UFO was witnessed by people in the United States.

It has now been revealed that a report about the UFO sighting was presented to former US President Thomas Jefferson.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise.

In fact, hundreds if not thousands of years ago, people all over the globe have been witnessing strange, inexplicable things in our skies.

While some of these events were explainable like weather or astronomic phenomena, some sitting s have remained shrouded in mystery.

Now, in the midst of increasing UFO sightings across the globe, and in days where UFO disclosure seems to be near, it has been revealed that 200 years ago, former US president Thomas Jefferson read a report about a UFO signing which occurred in the early days of the United States.

in The Papers of Thomas Jefferson: Retirement Series reveals that a tavern keeper in Portsmouth, Virginia, and his friend had informed the former president about an unidentified flying object they saw hovering in the skies.

The UFO which resembled a meteor at first had the ability to ‘shapeshift’ as the UFO attained the shape of a turtle as it hovered above the sky.

“We the subscribers most earnestly solicit, that your honor will give us your opinion on the following extraordinary phenomenon. We saw in the South a Ball of fire full as large as the sun at Meridian which was frequently obscured within the space of ten minutes by a smoke emitted from its own body, but ultimately retained its brilliance, and form during that period, but with apparent agitation,” wrote the eyewitnesses in a letter written to the president, Express.co.uk reports.

This report is considered one of the first UFO reports in the history of the United States.

However, it still remains a mystery whether the former president answered to the witness statement or not.

Interestingly, this was not the first mysterious object that was brought to the attention of Thomas Jefferson.

In 1804, a report mentioning an Unidentified Flying Object was written and submitted by naturalist William Dunbar, and communicated to the American Philosophical Society by Thomas Jefferson, who at the time was the president of the Society, as well as the Vice President of the United States of America.

A one-page notice appeared in the Transactions of the American Philosophical Society (Volume 6 Part1–Philadelphia, 1804– p-25)

Description of a singular Phenomenon seen at Baton Rouge, by Wikkiam Dibar, Esq. communicated by Thomas Jefferson, President A.P.S. Natchey, June 30, 1800. Read 16 January 1801.

A PHENOMENON was seen to pass Baton Rouge on the night of the 5th April 1800, of which the following is the best description I have been able to obtain.

It was first seen in the South West, and moved so rapidly, passing over the heads of the spectators, as to disappear in the North East in about a quarter of a minute.

It appeared to be of the size of a large house, 70 or 80 feet long and of a form nearly resembling Fig. 5. in Plate, iv.

It appeared to be about 200 yards above the surface of the earth, wholly luminous, but not emitting sparks; of a color resembling the sun near the horizon in a cold frosty evening, which may be called a crimson red. When passing right over the heads of the spectators, the light on the surface of the earth, was little short of the effect of sun-beams, though at the same time, looking another way, the stars were visible, which appears to be a confirmation of the opinion formed of its moderate elevation. In passing, a considerable degree of heat was felt but no electric sensation. Immediately after it disappeared in the North East, a violent rushing noise was heard, as if the phenomenon was bearing down the forest before it, and in a few seconds, a tremendous crash was heard similar to that of the largest piece of ordnance, causing a very sensible earthquake.

I have been informed, that search has been made in the place where the burning body fell, and that a considerable portion of the surface of the earth was found broken up, and every vegetable body burned or scorched. I have not yet received answers to a number of queries I have sent on, which may perhaps bring to light more particulars.

The recently found treasure trove has been described as priceless by the team of archaeologists that made the discovery.

A stunning discovery has been made in the mountains of Kazakhstan. Researchers have uncovered around 3,000 gold and precious-metal objects in a remote burial mount, hidden deep within the remote Tarbagatai mountains in Kazakhstan, local media reported.

It is believed that “incalculable” treasure belonged to members of the royalty or the nobility of the Saka people, who dominated Central Asia eight centuries before the birth of Christ. Researchers recovered bell-shaped gold earrings, golden plates, buckles for clothing, chains, and necklaces with precious stones.

But in addition to the fact that the amount of item caught experts by surprise, researchers shave been left awestruck by the precision with which these jewels were manufactured.

The head of the East-Kazakhstan region Danial Akhmetov said: “This find gives us a completely different view of the history of our people.”

The ancient civilization clearly had sophisticated and advanced skills in mining, or extraction, selling and jewelry making, Akhmetov explained.

“We are the heirs of the great people and great technologies,” he said.

Reports suggest that gold necklaces that decorate the clothes were made using sophisticated micro-welding techniques.

This shows great knowledge in the field of metallurgy and indicates an exceptional level for the time in terms of jewelry manufacturing skills.

This points to a highly sophisticated civilization.

According to researchers, the “steppe civilization” of the saka reached an extraordinary level, unlike anything researchers previously thought.

While experts have recovered the massive ancient treasure, they have still not found who it belonged to.

However, archaeologists expect that new excavations will reveal the owners of the treasure shortly.

Professor Zainolla Samashev, in charge of the excavations, said: “A large number of valuable finds in this burial mound let us believe a man and a woman are buried here – the reigning persons or people who belonged to the elite of Saka society.”

A team of British scientists from the University of Southampton believes they have solved the mystery of how ships go missing in the Bermuda Triangle. While their theory does not account for how planes seem to disappear in the area also known as the Devil’s Triangle, it may be the first plausible explanation for one half of the mystery. The Bermuda Triangle is a parcel of ocean in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean which stretches 700,000 square km (270,271 square miles) between Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. Regarded as one of the most treacherous areas on Earth to travel, the Bermuda Triangle has claimed the lives of over 1,000 people in the past 100 years.

According to Fox News, the answer they have arrived at, while not as mysterious as the “electronic fog” or “methane gas” theories, is within the realm of reality. They believe the mystery of Devil’s Triangle ship disappearances can be chalked up to a phenomena known as rogue waves. A rogue wave is the product of at least two major weather systems converging on one another from opposite directions over open water. The phenomena had been theorized long ago; however, there was never any concrete evidence of their existence until 1997 when one was caught on satellite footage off the coast of South Africa. At that time, it was no longer a tale told by mariners, and it became a reality.

From the standpoint of a meteorologist, the Bermuda Triangle is the perfect cauldron to create a zone friendly for the convergence of major weather systems, which is what is necessary to create rogue waves. The region experiences storms that sweep through on a regular basis that are formed to its north and south. That alone has the potential to create a rogue wave; however, they may not be large enough to actually sink large vessels and can be chalked up to rough seas associated to the passage of any major system. The real danger lies within the convergence of systems from the north and south converging on a system coming in from Florida. That is when a rogue wave can potentially reach a height of 100 feet or more and be deadly, wreaking complete destruction on a massive ship in the space of two to three minutes.

Simulators have been created to mimic rogue waves, and the ship that was tested first against them was a replica of the USS Cyclops which disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle in 1918, claiming 306 lives. For reference, the USS Cyclops was a massive Proteus-class collier that was 542 feet long, with a displacement of 19,360 long tons. When she went down, she was hauling 10,800 long tons of manganese ore, and her loss resulted in the greatest U.S.N. loss of life on a ship that was not the result of combat. In simulators, scale models of the USS Cyclops are usually overcome with water within a few minutes and sink.

As simulators can’t exactly replicate nature 100 percent accurately, stress points on models are also studied and reveal the possibility that with certain angles of impact against flat-bottom ships, such as the USS Cyclops, it would be possible for a rogue wave to snap the ship in half. Because rogue waves only last for a few minutes, ships can be overtaken prior to getting mayday calls out, and there would be no physical indicators on the surface of the ocean to indicate the anomaly ever took place.

Dr. Simon Boxall, an ocean and earth scientist, concurred that the Bermuda Triangle is the perfect genesis location for rogue waves, as reported by News Australia.

“There are storms to the south and north, which come together. And if there are additional ones from Florida, it can be a potentially deadly formation of rogue waves. They are steep, they are high – we’ve measured waves in excess of 30 metres.”

While the entire scientific community isn’t sold on the theory just yet, it is generally agreed upon that this is the most scientifically plausible reason for Bermuda Triangle ship disappearances put forth so far, as per Accuweather.
