Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.
This is our new dog Kira, a cross between a water dog and a Podenko. She has been with us since February 7, 2024 and is busy winning our hearts. She is a sweet, affectionate dog who quickly adapted to us within a week. She is very quick and curious, a very different dog than Noleke.

UFO mania: GOOGLE EARTH REVEALS STRANGE ANTARCTIC ENTRANCES – EVIDENCE OF SECRET UFO BASES?
On Google Earth one can find two large entrances that extend below the Antarctic surface and ice near the coastline. For some observers, they are natural caverns formed over time by the intense Antarctic weather conditions. Not so according to Scott Waring owner of the popular UFO Sightings blog. In a post, Waring claimed that they might be entrances to an alien base or a secret facility of some kind. He highlighted a video containing close-ups of the two large entrances. In the video, there is also an image of what Waring believes to be a huge saucer shaped object buried under melting ice near Antarctica. While there is no Google Earth image available of the mysterious buried UFO, the cave/base entrances are available for independent analysis. If the latter are indeed entrances to underground bases, then it would appear that claims that UFOs have bases in Antarctica, and may have even helped fleeing World War II Nazis escape a punitive U.S. Naval expedition, are not so far-fetched after all.
Let’s begin by examining the two large entrances discovered on Google Earth which are highlighted in a Youtube video uploaded on June 8 by Stephen Hannard showing various angles of the entrances. These entrances are available for independent confirmation at the following Google Earth coordinates (-66° 36′ 12.58″, +99° 43′ 12.72″ and -66° 36′ 12.58″, +99° 43′ 12.72″) They show entrances into the rocky underground. The first is approximately 30 meters high and 90 meters across. The video also shows a UFO allegedly found by Google Earth, but it is claimed that the image was removed and is no longer available.
According to Waring in his blog post:
Very interesting and intriguing images from Google Earth, which seem to show two possible entrances to an alien base or at least an entrance to something, and a huge saucer shaped object buried in the ice. If there are Alien bases in the Antarctic it would follow that there are ET craft their also.
Waring’s comments appear to accept a connection between the two large entrances and the alleged crashed UFO found in melting ice on South Sandwich Islands. The video shows no obvious connection other than all were allegedly discovered using Google Earth – the UFO, as mentioned earlier, is no longer available for independent confirmation. There is no independent confirmation that the UFO is genuine.
Nevertheless, the two entrances are clearly genuine and immediately raise the question over their artificiality. According to Hannard’s Youtube video, one of the entrances looks as though it has a metal canopy or dome covering it. This suggests that it is artificial. So if one or both of the entrances are artificial, then who built them? Are they recent, or some artifact from a bygone age when Antarctica was not covered by ice. Interestingly, the famous Piri Reis map show Antarctica without ice suggesting that its ice sheets are a geologically recent phenomenon.
One intriguing possibility is that the entrances are related to post-World War II events related to an alleged NAZI exodus to Antarctica, and a brief military confrontation between the US Navy and UFOs based under or near Antarctica.
An extraordinary 2006 Russian documentary revealed new information about the US Navy Antarctica expedition of 1946/47 – Operation Highjump. The Naval expedition was headed by famed polar explore Admiral Richard Byrd whose expedition ended after only 8 weeks with “many fatalities” according to initial news reports. Rather than deny the heavy casualty reports, Admiral Byrd revealed in a press interview in Chile that his Task Force had encountered a new enemy that “could fly from pole to pole at incredible speeds.”
After the Soviet collapse in 1991, the KGB released previously classified files that cast light on Operation Highjump. A 2006 Russian documentary made public for the first time a 1947 secret Soviet intelligence report commissioned by Joseph Stalin of the Operation Highjump mission to Antarctica. The intelligence report, gathered from Soviet spies embedded in the US, revealed that the US Navy had sent the military expedition to find and destroy a hidden Nazi base. On the way, they encountered a mysterious UFO force that attacked the military expedition destroying several ships and a significant number of planes. Indeed, Operation Highjump had suffered “many casualties” as stated in initial press reports from Chile. While there is a possibility the report resulted from US disinformation fed to a known Soviet mole, the more likely explanation is that the report exposes the first known historical incident involving a battle between US naval forces and an unknown UFO force stationed in underground facilities in or near Antarctica.
The mysterious entrances found in Antarctica by Google Earth may be nothing more than naturally formed entrances into caverns that extend under the Antarctic surface and ice. The entrances, on the other hand, may be artificially constructed entrances into underground UFO bases. If the latter option is correct, then perhaps we have an historical answer to where the mysterious UFO forces came from that attacked Admiral Byrd’s Operation Highjump expedition in early 1947.

Moon exploration will remain one of the biggest achievements by humans in the field of science. But were the astronauts being observed by aliens? Yes, suggests one of the archived photos of the Apollo missions.
The first Apollo mission was launched in 1969 by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This was a great accomplishment for the world as it was for the first time that humans stepped on the surface of the moon. Post this, several manned missions took place until 1972.
But, Apollo 15 was the first of the Apollo 'J' missions that was able to stay on the moon for a longer period of time, showing greater surface mobility. The aim of the project was to explore the Hadley-Appenine region of the moon and also to perform some lunar scientific experiments which can help understanding the subject better.
There was another objective of the mission – to make engineering evaluations of the new Apollo equipment, carry out lunar orbital experiments and also to take shots of the area.
Quite a few unidentified flying objects, or UFO sightings were reported across the world around the same time. However, when some researchers were browsing through the archival images of Apollo 15 mission, one of them spotted an unidentified object lingering over the lunar region, Tech Times reports.
This latest news of a UFO comes after Streetcap1 posted a video on YouTube. The original picture was taken on the moon's surface during the Apollo 15 mission between 30 July, 1971 and 2 August, 1971.
Some say that the things spotted in the image could be some debris, while others say it could be a result of the photo's developing process.
"It could be anything, a scratch on this particular camera lens, a piece of dust flying up, since there is very low gravity, things tend to move around a bit up there. It could even be a blocked out, bad picture of earth from the moon. Nothing about this still picture proves that it is a UFO, since whatever it is, is not flying, its stationary since it is only a picture. My best guess, it's a bad picture, and that's a spot left from bad developing," a comment on the YouTube video states.
But UFO believers and enthusiasts are firm that the image is of an alien that was observing human explorers as they might have been fascinated by the astronauts.

Through the ages, people have always feared various forms of evil. Folklorist Alan Dundes, in his edited volume The Evil Eye: A Casebook notes that "the victim's good fortune, good health, or good looks — or unguarded comments about them — invite or provoke an attack by someone with the evil eye. If the object attacked is animate, it may fall ill. Symptoms of illness caused by the evil eye include loss of appetite, excessive yawning, hiccups, vomiting, and fever. If the object attacked is a cow, its milk may dry up; if a plant or fruit tree, it may suddenly wither and die."
People believed, and still believe, that some people possess the evil eye. Their glance or gaze results in loss of energy. They spread negativity wherever they go. They feed on other people’s energy. The concept of witch and vampire has its origins in this idea. Then there are people who grant energy copiously; these are the saints and the gods and the holy men, even performers and film stars, who attract vast crowds.
When children fall sick for no apparent reason, when things suddenly start to go wrong or when road blocks come your way repeatedly, people say, the evil eye has struck. The idea is prevalent in almost every corner of the world. Ancient Irish legends speak of the evil eye of Balor, the one-eyed giant which inspired the concept of the Eye of Sauron in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. The evil eye havoc, stemming from neighbor's envy, is called a curse or 'hex'.
The best way to understand the concept of evil eye is to accept the idea of auras. All human beings have an aura around them, known as the subtle body. It is a kind of energy shield emerging from our physical and mental health status. A beautiful or healthy object has positive aura, which is why looking at them makes us happy; they energize us. An ugly or unhealthy object has a negative aura, which is why looking at them makes us unhappy; they sap us of energy. It is possible to draw energy from positive aura objects and lose energy to negative aura objects.
An evil eye, on the other hand, can cause us to lose our aura, feel drained and powerless.
Ancient Egyptians believed that the 'Eye of Horus' protected one from the evil eye. Ancient Romans used phallic images to keep away bad luck. In Turkey, the blue 'Nazar' amulet is sold everywhere. In many Arab countries, one finds the hand of Fatima or Khamsa or Hamsa, which is a palm-shaped amulet to ward off the evil eye. Many Muslims believe that saying 'Mashallah,' or 'God wills it' creates a protective shield from the evil eye. The apparently modern idea of keeping your fingers crossed has its origin in using the Crucifix to keep away evil and ensure success.
In Edwin and Mona Radford's Encyclopedia of Superstitions they note that in many places "a cross-eyed or squinting person was almost universally feared. To meet one on the way to work is still regarded as a bad sign by miners, fishermen, Spanish bullfighters, and others who follow dangerous trades." Though such an affliction is clearly not the person's fault, nonetheless "any visible defect in the eye is readily associated by the superstitious with the evil eye." The evil eye is also said to be prevalent among the Roma (formerly known as Gypsies).
Babies and children are said to be especially susceptible to harm from the evil eye, and in many countries including Greece, Romania and India, praising a child publicly is sometimes considered taboo, for the compliment will draw the attention of the evil eye. In order to counteract the evil eye, parents of a thoughtlessly praised child may ask the person who gave the compliment to immediately spit in the child's face. Because the momentarily exalted youngster has been brought down a peg, any harm by the evil eye is unnecessary; this spittle salve is harmless yet insulting enough to negate the compliment.
The buri nazar (evil eye) is a big deal in India. It comes from the idea that a gaze can cause harm and commonly believed that, should someone curse you with it, the negative energy will bring about all kinds of illnesses and misfortunes. Anyone can possess an evil eye transiently. This follows envy, or even adoration, of something pretty or beautiful, like a child, who is most susceptible to nazar. Inadvertently, even a mother's gaze, can drain the child of positive aura resulting in sickness. The threat of this prompts people into taking enthusiastic protective actions ranging from drawing big black dots, the nazar ka tika, on babies’ foreheads to chanting mantras, and engaging the services of Hindu priests and astrologers, to ward it off.
The best way to deal with the evil eye is to avoid it in the first place, but there are ways to protect oneself. The method varies by culture, geographic region, and personal preference. Amulets can be worn to deter the evil eye, often using the color blue (symbolizing heaven or godliness) and an eye symbol. Charms, potions, and spells can also be prepared; garlic can be used to deter the evil eye, and some believe that just saying the word "garlic" offers protection.
Some shops sell nothing but talismans designed to ward the eye off. Often, people will hang up chilies, limes, and lemons as a homemade alternative. There are even places online that sell fruit-based wards to protect homes and offices against the evil eye, should you desire to improve your lot.
Alan Dundes notes, we "should keep in mind that the evil eye is not some old-fashioned superstitious belief of interest solely to antiquarians. The evil eye continues to be a powerful factor affecting the behavior of countless millions of people throughout the world."
Fair warning...before seeking retribution, seriously weigh if a suspected misfortune is actually from an evil eye attack or simply non-supernatural bad luck. The consequences can be deadly.
Arthur Lampitt discovered that the bizarre object had been embedded in his left arm for over 51 years.
The 75-year-old's remarkable story started back in 1963 when he had been involved in a car accident while driving to work. He broke his hip and suffered minor injuries from flying debris but went on to make a full recovery.
Around 10 years ago however Lampitt had been visiting a courthouse with his wife Betty when he inadvertently set off the metal detector. Confused, he went to a hospital and had an x-ray done which revealed a metal object lodged in his left arm.
The anomalous item was around the size of a pencil but hadn't caused him any noticeable harm or discomfort so he decided to take no further action to have it removed or examined.
A few weeks ago however Lampitt ended up back in hospital when the object unexpectedly shifted inside his arm, prompting doctors to recommend he have it removed as soon as possible.
When the object was finally extracted however everyone was amazed to discover that it was the metal turn signal lever from the car he had been driving when he crashed over 51 years earlier.
"We see all kinds of foreign objects like nails or pellets, but usually not this large, usually not a turn signal from a 1963 T-Bird," said Dr. Timothy Lang who performed the operation.

ON SUNDAY, JULY 21, 2013, Dottie Rust and her hiking partner, Regina Clark, made their way from Carrabassett River to Poplar Mountain, part of an ambitious hike across a section of the Appalachian Trail in western Maine. The terrain was challenging, but conditions were good that day: sunny skies, cool temperatures. The two hiked down Lone Mountain, crossed a couple logging roads and streams, then began a steep ascent up Poplar Ridge. Clark is a faster hiker, but Rust is more experienced, so the latter would call out periodically, reminding her partner to look for the white blazes delineating the trail.
Near the top of Poplar Ridge, they stopped and took in the topography. Thick vegetation walled the trail on either side. Beyond it, precipitous cliffs dropped more than a hundred feet into caves and boulder gardens deep enough to swallow a truck. “My gosh,” Clark said to her friend, “if you were six inches off the trail here, you’d be gone. And no one would ever find you.”
Less than an hour later, the two southbound hikers arrived at the Poplar Ridge Lean-to, a covered camping shelter. There they met Geraldine Largay, a 66-year-old hiker from Tennessee heading north. Gerry had a big smile, a warm disposition, and an energy that belied her age. Rust and Clark were spending three weeks hiking a stretch of the Appalachian Trail, but Gerry was a thru-hiker: She intended to hike all 2,100 miles of it. Three months into her journey, she had completed nearly 1,000 miles and, by all accounts, was having a great time.
Other hikers would spend that Sunday night at the Poplar Ridge shelter — a northbound female hiker who kept to herself, two young men heading south — but the three women hit it off. They spent their evening together, cooking their dinners over compact backpacking stoves. Rust and Clark were instantly enamored. Here was a woman who had been an Air Force nurse, who had banded seabirds on a Pacific atoll, and taken her family on trips to Costa Rica and Spain. “She was just full of confidence and joy — a real delight to talk to,” recalls Rust.
The three women shared trail gossip; they talked about work; they compared husbands. Gerry said that George, her husband of 42 years, had been running support throughout the hike and would be waiting for her in his SUV at the trailhead near Route 27, about 22 miles away, on Tuesday. That impressed the hikers. So did Gerry’s level of preparation.
On Monday morning, Rust and Clark awoke after Gerry, just in time to watch her down an instant breakfast drink and then don her backpack. She was planning to spend that night at the Spaulding Mountain Lean-to, about 8 miles north, then hike an arduous 13 miles more in time to meet George by Tuesday evening.
There was a chill in the air, and Gerry was wearing a bright red fleece. She was absolutely beaming — so much so, in fact, that Rust asked if she could take her picture. “It’ll make the perfect Christmas card,” she told her new friend. Gerry mugged for the camera, waved goodbye, and then turned toward the same challenging half mile of trail Rust and Clark had traversed the previous day. A few seconds later, they watched Gerry disappear into the heavy foliage.

11. Nature is not FOR us, it is a PART of us. They are part of your worldly family.
12. Children are the seeds of our future. Plant love in their hearts and water them with wisdom and life’s lessons. When they are grown, give them space to grow.
13. Avoid hurting the hearts of others. The poison of your pain will return to you.
14. Be truthful at all times. Honesty is the test of ones will within this universe.
15. Keep yourself balanced. Your Mental self, Spiritual self, Emotional self, and Physical self – all need to be strong, pure and healthy. Work out the body to strengthen the mind. Grow rich in spirit to cure emotional ails.
16. Make conscious decisions as to who you will be and how you will react. Be responsible for your own actions.
17. Respect the privacy and personal space of others. Do not touch the personal property of others – especially sacred and religious objects. This is forbidden.
18. Be true to yourself first. You cannot nurture and help others if you cannot nurture and help yourself first.
19. Respect others religious beliefs. Do not force your belief on others.
20. Share your good fortune with others. Participate in charity.

Infant Worlds Could Provide Clues To Alien Life In The Universe
The existence of alien life isn’t a matter of “if”, but “where”. With the new research, finding of which distant planets host or can host life beyond Earth is now easier than decades ago. The so-called habitable zone of young planets have been discovered by scientists to be wider than previously imagined, making Earth-like planets more evident.
Astronomy professor Lisa Kaltenegger from Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences said that searching for new, inhabitable worlds is one of the most exciting activities human beings are currently doing, and finding infant Earth-like planets adds another piece to the puzzle. Kaltenegger explained that surprises in the search for planets like Earth make it so exciting. Astrophysical Journal Letters will publish a new study on the January 1, 2015 issue.
Habitable zones are planets that are not too hot and not too cold. They also have an indication of the presence of water, one of the essential ingredients of life to exist. Astronomers are now focusing on star-orbiting planets and hope to find some at their young age. Research associate at Cornell, Ramses M. Ramirez, said that next generation ground-based telescopes could make finding young stars less difficult because they are easier to recognize when the Habitable Zone is farther out.
Astronomers have already reached distance regions of the universe, but there are a lot of galaxies to cover. Billions of stars are estimated to exist in the universe, and it is a challenge for the researchers to determine which among them have signs of life, which involves a set of complex equations, intuition, and sometimes luck.
Determining the size of a planet and its distance from a star are just two of several techniques at astronomers’ disposal for locating planets with conditions suitable for life. In a report by the Telegraph, scientists can find planets 3 to 5 times the mass of Earth as of the moment, but time will come in the near future that planets much smaller than Earth could also be observed.
According to an estimate by scientists, tens of billions of planets are candidates of supporting life in Milky Way alone. However, they don’t believe that every Earth-like planet has alien life because other conditions should be met, such as the atmosphere should be just sufficient for life.

Kepler Candidate Planets Searched for Signs of Intelligent Life

A recent Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) effort studied 86 candidates in the Kepler space observatory's field for radio signals that could potentially indicate the presence of an intelligent civilization.
Of course, no radio signals were found, but the search did identify the most promising Kepler objects for wide-band observations using the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia.
"The 86 target stars were selected because they hosted planets discovered by [the year] 2011 with properties that could be conducive to the development of life," said Abhimat Gautam, of the University of California, Berkeley. [10 Exoplanets That Could Host Alien Life]
Gautam, who recently completed his senior undergratuate year at the University of California, Berkeley and was part of the Berkeley SETI Research Center, presented the results at the 224th summer meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Boston, Massachusetts in June.
Widening the search
By 2011, Kepler had revealed 1,235 planetary candidates (as of Dec. 31, 2014, that number stands at 4,183, with 996 of them confirmed as planets). Gautam worked with Andrew Siemion and other scientists of the Berkeley SETI Research Center to select 86 planetary candidates that had surface temperatures between minus 50 and 100 degrees Celsius (minus 58 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit), a radius smaller than three times that of Earth, and an orbital period of more than 50 days. Such conditions placed the objects within the habitable zone around their stars, the region where liquid water can exist on the surface and where life might best be able to develop on a planet.
The Green Bank Telescope (the world's largest fully steerable radio telescope, located in Green Bank, West Virginia) targeted the parent stars using a wide-band signal. Scientists had performed previous searches of the Kepler field in the narrow band with no success. Only 5 Hertz (Hz) wide on the radio spectrum, narrow-band signals are only known to arise from artificial sources on Earth, Gautam said. The narrow-band range is commonly used in SETI searches.
By switching to wide-band, Gautam hoped for a number of benefits. Wide-band signals cover 2.5 Megahertz (MHz), which is half a billion times wider than previous searches. Increasing the region of the radio spectrum observed means that listening scientists can search for broader signals than those previously observed. [13 Ways to Hunt Intelligent Aliens]
The interstellar medium — the gas and dust between stars — can spread the signal out as it travels through the material, causing a delay that could provide a rough estimate of the distance to any detectable source and allowing SETI astronomers to track potential communications back to their origins.
In addition, a wide-band signal may be more commonly used for intentional signaling, Gautam said.
"An advanced alien civilization may even use a pulsar for signaling, which can be more easily and effectively detected in a wide-band search."
Gautam, who is now pursuing a doctorate in astronomy at the University of California, Los Angeles, first took interest in SETI through the SETI@Home project while still in high school. He contacted Dan Werthimer, chief scientist for SETI@Home, in search of available research projects.
"When UC Berkeley undergraduate students majoring in the physical sciences express an interest in continuing on for a graduate degree in their field, one of the first suggestions they receive is to seek out research opportunities," SETI’s Andrew Siemion told Astrobiology Magazine in an email.
Gautam presented the results while he was still an undergraduate student because "it was all his work," Siemion said. "Abhimat was a fantastic member of our research group."
Scanning the skies
The SETI search focused both on active signals deliberately broadcast by a potential civilization, as well as passive signals such as those created by Earth's television shows and airport radars.
"We expect intentional, active signals to be brighter and easier to detect than non-intentional, passive signals," Gautam said.
With the Green Bank Telescope pointed at each target star, the radio beam would span approximately 4.2 light-years, wide enough to engulf the planetary system, including unknown bodies.
According to Siemion's SETI blog, the search also covered a region of the radio spectrum known as the "terrestrial microwave window," which can travel through both interstellar space and Earth's atmosphere with little distortion. Within that window, the SETI search covered the "water hole," a region of the radio spectrum bounded by the two products of water — hydrogen and hydroxyl.
"Some scientists have suggested that if an extraterrestrial intelligence were to deliberately signal other intelligent beings, they might chose this band," Siemion wrote.
The team found no sign of an intelligent civilization. They concluded that less than 1 percent of the stars in the region produce a radio signal greater than 60 times that of the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico.
"The Arecibo Planetary Radar is the most powerful radio transmitter on Earth," Gautam said. "This provides a good estimate for calculating estimates of the detectability of Earth-like technology in our search."

Venus may have once possessed strange oceans of carbon dioxide fluid that helped shape the planet's surface, researchers say.
For years, we've believed that around 2 billion planets in the galaxy are able to support alien life. But what if we were wrong? Anthony discusses how new knowledge of the 'Goldilocks Zone' could mean life on up to 60 billion planets.
Venus is often described as Earth's twin planet because it is the world closest to Earth in size, mass, distance and chemical makeup. However, whereas Earth is a haven for life, Venusis typically described as hellish, with a crushing atmosphere and clouds of corrosive sulfuric acid floating over a rocky desert surface hot enough to melt lead.
Although Venus is currently unbearably hot and dry, it might have once had oceans like Earth. Prior research suggested that Venus possessed enough water in its atmosphere in the past to cover the entire planet in an ocean about 80 feet deep (25 meters) — if all that water could somehow fall down as rain. But the planet was probably too warm for such water to cool down and precipitate, even if the planet did have enough moisture. [The Weirdest Facts About Venus]
Instead of seas of water, then, scientists now suggest that Venus might have once possessed bizarre oceans of carbon dioxide fluid.
Carbon dioxide is common on Venus.
"Presently, the atmosphere of Venus is mostly carbon dioxide, 96.5 percent by volume," said lead study author Dima Bolmatov, a theoretical physicist at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
Most familiar on Earth as a greenhouse gas that traps heat, helping warm the planet, carbon dioxide is exhaled by animals and used by plants in photosynthesis. While the substance can exist as a solid, liquid and gas, past a critical point of combined temperature and pressure, carbon dioxide can enter a "supercritical" state. Such a supercritical fluid can have properties of both liquids and gases. For example, it can dissolve materials like a liquid, but flow like a gas.
To see what the effects of supercritical carbon dioxideon Venus might be, Bolmatov and his colleagues investigated the unusual properties of supercritical matter. A great deal remains uncertain about such substances, he said.
Scientists had generally thought the physical properties of supercritical fluids changed gradually with pressure and temperature. However, in computer simulations of molecular activity, Bolmatov and his colleagues found that supercritical matter could shift dramatically from gaslike to liquidlike properties.
The atmospheric pressure on the surface of Venus is currently more than 90 times that of Earth, but in the early days of the planet, Venus' surface pressure could have been dozens of times greater. This could have lasted over a relatively long time period of 100 million to 200 million years. Under such conditions, supercritical carbon dioxide with liquidlike behavior might have formed, Bolmatov said.
"This in turn makes it plausible that geological features on Venus like rift valleys, riverlike beds, and plains are the fingerprints of near-surface activity of liquidlike supercritical carbon dioxide," Bolmatov told Space.com.
The researchers found that depending on the pressure and temperature, clusters of gas-like supercritical carbon dioxide [Michael D1] might have formed in this supercritical carbon dioxide on Venus that "looked like soap bubbles," Bolmatov said. "A bubble of gas that is covered by a thick layer of liquid."
Bolmatov and his colleagues said they now hope to conduct experiments to detect this shift from gaslike to liquidlike properties in supercritical carbon dioxide. The scientists detailed their findings in the Aug. 21 issue of the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters.
The Astronomical Society of the Caribbean captured images of an impressive and slow meteor visible from Puerto Rico on the early hours of sunday, december 28, 2014. The biggest Astronomical Society on Puerto Rico and the Caribbean (Sociedad de Astronomía del Caribe) had reports confirming the meteor was visible from all the Island.
There is an investigation about the possibility of space junk being related, because a Proton-M Russian rocket was launched carrying the Astra-2G communications satellite on December 27.
Another Russian rocket was launched on December 26 with the Resurs-P2 Earth observatory.
Because the meteor was seen for 44 seconds, it is possible that one of these rocket bodies reentered Earth’s atmosphere over Puerto Rico’s skies.
However, it can be a small asteroid and the incident was reported to NASA’s Ames Research Center in California for further investigation.
The meteor was moving from SW to E-NE and the video below shows the meteor in real (actual) speed.
The Astronomical Society of the Caribbean said that this event IS NOT related to another incident in Brazil, which also occurred on December 28.
According to the news site campograndenews.com.br the second incident on December 28 was another rocket reentered the atmosphere causing impressive sightings in the sky.
After three consecutive bangs, an object similar to a household gas tank fell in a yard of Santa Maria in Brazil. The farm owner’s friend, Marcelo says that the piece has 1.70 meters tall and weighing 50 pounds.
The lights were also seen in the sky by residents of several cities such as Campo Grande, Antonio João and South Fatima, and similar reports in Paraná and Paraguay. First, it was classified as meteor shower, but according to campograndenews.com.br the most likely is that it is space junk as a meteor has greater speed.
