Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

Waarom stuurt de ESA (European Space Agency) een dure ruimtesonde naar een afgelegen komeet?
Dit is geen toeval, maar heeft alles te maken met radiosignalen die ruim 20 jaar geleden zijn opgevangen.
67P/Tsjoerjoemov-Gerasimenko is een periodieke komeet waarvan de omlooptijd rond de zon 6,44 jaar bedraagt.
De komeet werd in 1969 ontdekt en men stelde vast dat dit object af en toe een merkwaardige omloopbaan heeft gevormd.
In een artikel uit 2014 schreven wij het volgende over deze komeet en de missie van de ruimtesonde Rosetta.
Er is een reden dat de Europese ruimtesonde Rosetta een gedetailleerd onderzoek gaat uitvoeren naar komeet 67P.
Volgens een ESA (European Space Agency) klokkenluider ontving NASA al twintig jaar geleden vreemde radiosignalen van deze komeet; die er niet uitziet als een komeet.
Enkele weken geleden schreven wij een artikel over de Europese ruimtesonde Rosetta en de komeet die deze moet gaan onderzoeken.
“Rosetta is een ruimtesonde die wordt gefinancierd door de ESA. Zij zal zich in 2014 in een baan om de komeet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko plaatsen en deze bestuderen.
De sonde Rosetta kwam op 6 augustus aan bij de komeet 67P. Zij aan zij vliegen ze richting de zon. Dat is nooit eerder gedaan.
De verkenner Philae moet het komende jaar onder meer gaan boren in het oppervlak, om vast te stellen waaruit de komeet bestaat.”
In hetzelfde artikel lieten wij foto’s zien van een witte cirkelvormige ufo boven het oppervlak van deze komeet.
Er schijnt echter nog veel meer aan de hand te zijn met deze komeet.
De bekende videomaker op Youtube BP Earthwatch ontving een e-mail met het volgende nogal schokkende bericht:
Het bericht is afkomstig van iemand die werkt binnen ESA (European Space Agency). Deze zegt dat de belangstelling voor deze komeet zo’n twintig jaar geleden werd gewekt doordat NASA radiosignalen ontving, afkomstig van deze komeet.
Dat niet alleen, maar ergens in de afgelopen twintig jaar schijnt 67P ook van koers te zijn veranderd.
Veel wetenschappers hebben ook al hun verbazing uitgesproken over het uiterlijk van deze komeet omdat men een soort sneeuw en ijsklomp had verwacht. Iets waarbij in het geval van 67P absoluut geen sprake is.
Besloten werd volgens de klokkenluider om deze “komeet” met een bezoek te vereren. Om de aandacht af te leiden en dit zo geruisloos mogelijk te doen, werd een samenwerking aangegaan tussen NASA en ESA, waarbij de laatste een missie zou organiseren onder de noemer van onderzoek naar een komeet.
De klokkenluider zegt verder: "Jullie zijn toch niet zo gek om te geloven dat ze deze Rosetta missie die al in 2004 werd gelanceerd en miljarden Dollars kost, zomaar gaan doen om een stukje rots in de ruimte te onderzoeken? Nee, ze doen dit omdat er iets aan de hand is met 67P en omdat ze vandaar radiosignalen hebben opgevangen".
Wat 67P ook moge zijn, volgens de klokkenluider is het zeker dat het geen komeet is.
Ook schijnt hij bij de e-mail een aantal onbewerkte foto’s te hebben meegestuurd waaruit duidelijk zou blijken dat we hier met wat anders dan een komeet van doen hebben.
Zo is er op een deel van de “komeet” een soort toren zichtbaar en iets dat lijkt op een gebouw.
Een komeet die er niet uitziet als een komeet, waarop vreemde constructies te zien zijn én een ufo en waar ESA miljarden aan spendeert om hem van dichtbij te kunnen bekijken.
En dan wordt er nu door een oplettende internetgebruiker iets ontdekt op één van de door ESA gepubliceerde foto’s dat verdacht veel lijkt op een antenne.
Zou dit de antenne zijn die twintig jaar geleden is gebruikt om een radiosignaal vanaf de komeet te versturen?
Er zijn meer opvallende dingen ontdekt op deze komeet zoals een soort vreemd uitziend rotsen die in een formatie liggen die exact overeenkomt met die van de piramides van Gizeh.
Kortom, alle tekenen wijzen erop dat P67 iets meer is dan een kaal uitziend rotsblok dat door de ruimte zweeft.

A man’s camera battery went empty even though it was fully charged after he tried to record a spooky event in the sky over Great Shefford, Berkshire.
The man was walking his dog when he noticed three shining orbs hovering above a UK forest. The thirty-two-year-old dog walker kept seeing them through the hills near Great Shefford in Berkshire.
The next time he went back to the area, he had a camera with him in a bid to capture the strange objects. He was hoping to identify the bizarre objects after he viewed them thoroughly in the video. However, after less than two minutes of video recording, his camera stopped to operate all of a sudden despite being fully charged.
Fellow residents of the forest village in West Berkshire revealed that they also left baffled about the identity of the orbs after they have been observed many times over the past three months. The video shows unusual objects hovering in the sky at around 7:45 pm on Monday.
The witness, who chose not to be named, said there’s no pattern of the time of their appearance, but he had seen them about four times already.
He saw them in the same position, and there was a time when the lights became six at most. He added that these lights usually stayed for a maximum of 15 minutes before disappearing.

Here’s one interesting footage of a bright unidentified flying object flying across the daytime sky above Southfield (northern suburb of Detroit), Michigan. This was filmed on 24th July 2016.
Witness report:
During a break at work, I noticed an object hovering above a nearby tree. After approximately 15-20 seconds of observation, I pulled out my phone and started recording. I knew that what I was seeing was unidentifiable to me. The object looked very fuzzy at times and nearly transparent, other times it looked like a large white bag that was filled about 75% and slowly tumbling in the air. The object appeared to pulse light on its surface or reflect flashes of sunlight. The top of the tree in the video is about 125-150 feet from my position.

Many supermassive black holes in the centers of galaxies possess a thick ring of material known as a torus. Appearing like a supersized doughnut, astronomers have long thought that these features were created by churned-up material from the galactic core itself, falling into the black hole's gravitational well.
However, according to powerful new observations by the the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile, this conventional model is, apparently, far too simple.
While studying the environment surrounding the supermassive black hole in the core of the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1068 47 million light-years away, ALMA was able to track clouds of material being flung outwards by the black hole, creating its own torus rather than material falling in.

"Think of a black hole as an engine," said astronomer Jack Gallimore, of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, in a statement. "It's fueled by material falling in on it from a flattened disk of dust and gas. But like any engine, a black hole can also emit exhaust."
Black holes consuming matter possess accretion disks, which are basically flat and hot features that swirl around the black hole's event horizon. The innermost section of the accretion disk is so hot that it generates X-ray and ultraviolet radiation, but further out, the disk is cooler and emits infrared and millimeter wavelength radiation. ALMA is very sensitive to the latter, allowing the observatory to track the motion of the gases in the outermost portion of NGC 1068's accretion disk.

While following cool clouds of carbon monoxide gas inside this cooler accretion disk region, Gallimore's team saw the clouds lift off the disk. As they become ionized by the superheated portion of the accretion disk, the clouds started to interact with the black hole's powerful magnetic field. The gas was then flung away from the accretion disk at high speed, far faster than the rotational speed of the disk itself.
"These clouds are traveling so fast that they reach 'escape velocity' and are jettisoned in a cone-like spray from both sides of the disk," said Gallimore. "With ALMA, we can for the first time see that it is the gas that is thrown out that hides the black hole, not the gas falling in."
The vast majority of galaxies are known to contain supermassive black holes in their cores. They have a symbiotic relationship and the activity of black holes are known to have a powerful influence over the galaxies as a whole, even impacting the rate of star formation. Now, with observatories like ALMA, we're beginning to see the intricacies of this relationship and their impact on the hearts of galaxies.

The star cluster Terzan 5 has two different kinds of stars, with ages 7 billion years apart. This shows that the cluster formed from a very large cloud of gas with enough raw materials to produce both sets. Spacefarer delays
A new report from the NASA Office of Inspector General described technical delays for SpaceX and Boeing, pushing off the possibility of the companies flying regular crewed flights until late 2018. The two companies partnered with NASA to ferry astronauts to the International Space Station; right now, the only craft that can carry crew there is Russia's Soyuz. To the asteroid!
NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission lifted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Thursday (Sept. 8), blazing a path to pluck a sample from asteroid Bennu. The first detection of Pluto in X-rays has been made using NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory in conjunction with observations from NASA’s New Horizon spacecraft.

A team studying data from NASA's Chandra Observatory has detected X-ray light coming from Pluto. This finding indicates a complex interaction between Pluto's leaking atmosphere and the solar wind coming from our Sun.
UNEXPECTED X-RAYS
Since we stopped calling Pluto a planet, we continue to discover more and more about it. Findings from the New Horizons probe and other studies on Pluto have already reshaped our ideas of the favorite dwarf planet.
The team used data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory — which pointed at Pluto a total of four times from February 2014 to August 2015 — and detected low energy photons of X-ray light.
“We’ve just detected, for the first time, X-rays coming from an object in our Kuiper Belt, and learned that Pluto is interacting with the solar wind in an unexpected and energetic fashion,” said Carey Lisse, team leader of the study, in a statement.
The amazing thing is the X-rays aren’t of the regular solar variety. If X-rays from the Sun were simply bouncing off Pluto’s atmosphere, they would have a temperature of several million Kelvin.
Instead, the low-energy photons might come from solar wind passing through an escaping atmosphere. The mix of nitrogen, carbon, and oxygen could be stripping away photons of the solar wind, creating an X-ray flare.

DEEPER MEANINGS
The X-ray detection also provides new insights into how Pluto works. If the X-rays are born out of a disintegrating atmosphere, it means Pluto’s atmosphere is slowly burning into space.
The findings could also show a new way of looking at X-ray radiation in general. The discovery could help explain much — if not all — of the X-ray “background noise” we detect in the Universe.
These X-rays from Pluto reveal the complex systems at play for even the smallest members of our cosmic neighborhood. If Pluto is harboring secrets, who knows what else we could find in Kuiper belt.

De NASA heeft er opnieuw flink van langs gekregen van alien-jagers. Die stellen dat het Amerikaanse ruimteagentschap de aanwezigheid van ruimteschepen bij de zon verdoezelt, meldt het Russische staatspersbureau Sputnik.
Het zonneobservatorium SOHO heeft volgens de alien-jagers een gigantische UFO vastgelegd die energie onttrekt aan onze ster. Een soortgelijk object werd in 2011, 2012 en eerder dit jaar ook al vastgelegd door de NASA.
Geen commentaar
De ruimtevaartorganisatie weigert commentaar te geven op de beelden. Is het simpelweg een artefact of ruimtepuin? Hoe dan ook is het object in de afgelopen vijf jaar meermaals gespot door camera’s van SOHO.
SOHO is een ruimtetelescoop die de zon observeert. Het is een samenwerkingsproject van de ESA en de NASA. Er zijn ook al meer dan 1000 kometen met SOHO gevonden.
Vermenigvuldigen
De beelden van de mysterieuze UFO werden eerder deze week op YouTube geplaatst door UFO-jager Streetcap1. “Waarom blijft de NASA deze foto’s vrijgeven zonder een verklaring te geven voor deze onregelmatigheden?” vraagt hij zich af.
Sommigen menen dat het gaat om een buitenaards ruimteschip dat in een baan om de zon draait om energie op te ‘zuigen’ en zich op die manier te vermenigvuldigen. Deze theorie doet denken aan voormalig NASA-wetenschapper Norman Bergrun die stelt dat buitenaardse ruimteschepen energie halen uit de ringen van Saturnus om zich te vermenigvuldigen.

Terwijl ons land volkomen was afgeleid door een stel brabbelende en puberende Turkensuisde een asteroïde rakelings langs de aarde.
Niemand had asteroïde opgemerkt, terwijl deze een fiks deel van de mensheid had kunnen wegvagen.
Het was de tweede keer binnen een maand dat een fikse asteroïde rakelings de aarde schoot en niet één van alle wetenschappelijke programma’s op aarde was in staat dit naderende object te detecteren.
Hiermee wordt pijnlijk duidelijk dat als het een keer mis gaat, de slachtoffers waarschijnlijk nooit zullen weten hoe ze van het ene op het andere moment in de hemel terecht zijn gekomen.
NASA heeft de afgelopen week een missie gelanceerd om te proberen een gigantische meteoor onschadelijk, waarvan wetenschappers vermoeden dat die ergens in de komende 150 jaar voor een massavernietiging van de mensheid op aarde zou kunnen zorgen. Dat is natuurlijk prachtig en de mensen die over 100 jaar op aarde wonen zullen daar ook heel blij mee zijn, maar de objecten die ons nu bijna raken zien ze niet.
De asteroïde die ons dit keer bijna raakte, passeerde de aarde op een afstand van ruim 38.000 kilometer en in ruimtetermen spreken we dan van rakelings. Dit is ongeveer de afstand van de communicatiesatellieten die om de aarde cirkelen en deze asteroïde was de meest gevaarlijke sinds mensenheugenis.
De asteroïde heeft de grootte van een touringcar en reist met een snelheid van 29.000 kilometer per uur door de ruimte.
Te bedenken dat het de tweede keer binnen een maand is dat de aarde is ontsnapt aan een ramp.
In beide gevallen kwam de wetenschappelijke wereld er pas achter nadat de objecten de aarde rakelings hadden gemist.
Naast asteroïden die steeds vaker gevaarlijk dicht bij de aarde komen, hebben we nog een toenemende dreiging vanuit de ruimte en dat zijn de meteorieten, ook wel vuurballen genoemd omdat de meeste opbranden op het moment dat ze de atmosfeer van de aarde binnen komen.
Anderen exploderen zoals we enkele jaren geleden hebben kunnen zien boven Rusland en weer andere komen op aarde terecht.
Deze vuurballen nemen jaar na jaar toe, zoals te zien is op de volgende grafiek die van de afgelopen jaren het verloop van vuurballen laat zien in de periode januari tot augustus.
Een toename die door de wetenschap en de mainstreammedia niet wordt genoemd. Niet zo vreemd natuurlijk als je weet dat de toename van dit soort objecten samenhangt met de komst van een mini zonnestelsel.
Dit zonnestelsel zwiept als het ware een enorm veld van ruimtepuin voor zich uit, waarin wij nu zo’n beetje terechtkomen.
Zo kan het bijvoorbeeld dat NASA op 27 augustus meldde dat ze op één dag 200 vuurballen hadden waargenomen in één nacht, terwijl het gebruikelijke aantal ergens tussen de 15 en 45 ligt. Deze vuurballen vormden geen onderdeel van een bekende meteorenregen, ze waren er gewoon, van het ene moment op het andere.
Het zal dan ook niet voor niets zijn dat er de afgelopen tientallen jaren miljarden euro’s en/of dollars zijn uitgegeven aan het bouwen van ondergrondse schuilplaatsen.
Aangezien ze bij ons klaarblijkelijk volledig zitten te slapen voor wat betreft gevaarlijke asteroïden is het dan ook niet zo vreemd dat in China dit soort objecten wel worden ontdekt.
Of de asteroïde waar in onderstaande video over wordt gesproken en waarvoor waarschuwingen schijnen te komen uit China daadwerkelijk een groot gevaar is, is op dit moment niet geheel duidelijk.

How did a guy from Puerto Rico who claimed he was abducted by aliens know about a New World Order in 1988? An abduction tale that included a post-Apocalyptic Earth one world government run by aliens living on an artificial island in the middle of a dark, dirty black sea. The video posted below is a 1991 interview with a man named Amaury Rivera Toro--we'll call him 'Rivera'--who claimed he was abducted by aliens in Puerto Rico on May 14, 1988. Rivera was interviewed in 1991 by Jim Cunningham at the First international UFO Conference at the Riveria Hotel in Las Vegas. Along with his fantastical tale of an alien abduction including half-human demon-like beings, an 'extraterrestrial human' and holographic projections Rivera produced photos of a UFO and a fighter jet Rivera claimed he took immediately after his Close Encounter of the Third Kind. Along with the video we found a written account from Rivera that revealed more details.
Is Rivera's alien abduction tale false and the photos a hoax? In the video a UFO investigator claimed he spoke with other Puerto Ricans who claimed they came in contact with a 'Man in Black' similar to the one in Rivera's close encounter.
If we were conspiracy theorists we'd wonder whether Rivera's close encounter was with humans who planted, in 1988, the seeds of a False Flag alien invasion; evil humans bent on building a one world government, New World Order. If we believed in Biblical prophecies we'd wonder if the 'beings' Rivera encountered were demons and fallen angels; one of the holographic 'projections' Rivera saw, a vision of a post-Apocalyptic future-a 'New World Order' run by the Antichrist from a island located in a Hades type sea. Rivera claimed he came across a thick blanket of fog while driving home at 4:30 am on a lonely stretch of a country backroad: "Suddenly I heard what I initially thought were the sounds of hooves on the paved road. In Rivera's written account Rivera claimed he and his car wound up in what he described as an underground parking lot: "When I woke up I had no idea of my whereabouts. I was still seated in my car but I was no longer on the road. I found myself in a strange place where there were other cars. These other cars were empty. I distinctly remember looking around for a sign that would read "Exit." There were none in this place that looked like an underground parking lot. There were no doors that I could see; no windows either. The colors of the walls were a non metallic light gray." Rivera claimed he saw one of the beings who reached out and touched Rivera's forehead with it's 'tiny hand' rendering Rivera unconscious. Rivera awoke in a room with 14 other terrified people; a light grey illuminated room. Out of nowhere the 'man in black' and two beings appeared. Video interview: "From here another human being showed up, he claimed to be from a distant planet. He was dressed in black, had dark skin but he was not a Negro. The alleged UFO crash at a ranch in Roswell, New Mexico has opened the doors to alien existence. Today, many conspiracy theorists consider the Roswell incident as one of the conspicuous evidence that US government has covered up the truth about extra-terrestrial life’s presence on Earth. Following the crash, several whistleblowers have given their respective testimonies indicating that corpses, alien technological artifacts, and debris were being recovered and that they were transported to Hangar 18 situated in Area B of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, just northeast of Ohio.
For additional information, the Wright-Patterson AFB was established since 1948 through a merger of Wright and Patterson Fields. These two are the sites of experimental flights conducted by the Wright brothers, Wilbur, and Orville. The trend of cattle mutilation is one of the most mysterious at the same time far-reaching stories brought in this modern age. For the past 70 years, more than 10,000 horses and cows have been mutilated and killed in a brutal fashion. The cattle were lying on their sides, and their organs were removed in precise wounds. What is more mysterious is the organs removed from the animals are tongues, hearts, eyes, and lungs. To worst scenario is the carcasses found that have been completely drained of blood.
Despite the petitions and investigations for ten years involving agents, they found absolutely nothing. Since no suspect was found, no probable cause to arrest a particular person. To this end, no conclusions have been found and so the case remains a mystery. Chuck is beginning to wonder if the mutilation he was investigating was a result of the UFO’s activity. The Apollo Program officially ended in 1972 with the Apollo 17 being the last mission to the Moon and back.
However, NASA had planned three more missions, Apollo 18, Apollo 19 and Apollo 20. According to conspiracy theorists, the Apollo missions had discovered ancient artificial structures on the Moon and wanted to explore them without public knowledge.
Apollo 20 is considered one of the most controversial UFO cover-up in history. In 2007, several videos were uploaded to YouTube and the user who provided them claimed they were footage from Apollo 20.

The grainy videos were apparently caught on 16 mm film and show the inside of the Apollo 20 command module as well as what appears to be the intricate architecture of a long-deserted lunar city.
He identified himself as former astronaut William Rutledge and according to him, the mission took place in 1976 as a secret Soviet-American joint venture.
He was chosen to be part of the team due to being an atheist, which was a rarity among astronauts in the 1970’s.
Why would NASA require someone who didn’t believe in God for this mission? Would a believer have lost his faith?
Rutledge said that the Apollo 14 mission had passed over the southern polar region of the Moon, observing numerous abandoned space ships and cities comprised of towering structures.
The Apollo 20 landed near the Delporte Crater and its mission was to explore a cigar-shaped mother ship that had been abandoned for 1.5 million years.

Once inside it, the astronauts found two alien bodies. The male was dead but preserved so they recovered the female, dubbed Mona Lisa.
She had a humanoid body, six fingers and her features were similar to those of a human, although she had no nostrils.
Rutledge described her as being in a state of suspended animation, neither dead nor alive. She was attached to the pilot controls of the spaceship, with several tubes going into her body and she was covered in a wax-like substance.
She was brought back to Earth and he suspects that she was revived and is kept somewhere secret to this day. The male was also brought to Earth and an autopsy was performed on him.
The astronauts recovered what technology they could and started their trip home.
William Rutledge is 78 years old and currently living in Rwanda. Due to his age, he says he no longer feels threatened by the secrecy he was sworn to at the time of the mission.
He also stated that it’s not up to NASA or anyone for that matter to keep things of this magnitude hidden from the rest of the world.

While clearly in the realm of fiction, the technologies and equipment presented in Star Trek inspired generations. Who didn’t want their own Holodeck or personal communicator?
But now, real life advancements in computing and robotics have become so robust that we are anticipating the “Singularity,” and NASA has actively been pursuing projects like warp ships. So, just how excited should you be about all of this work? Is the world of Star Trek really that far off?

In some respects, we have actually surpassed the gizmos producer Gene Roddenberry and the writers of the show originally thought up. Our cellphones, laptops, and tablets can stream video, images, and text. Moreover, our network of satellites means that, thanks to things like Skype, you can have an instantaneous video call with anyone anywhere on the planet.
In contrast, the crew’s communicators could only do verbal reports. True, their larger computers were capable of a lot more, but as far as handheld devices go, our cell phones are a lot more than what the early creators of Star trek seemed to imagine.
Similarly, the handheld, portable tricorder from Star Trek was essential to the crew. It was able to scan and record biological data from almost anything, and (like the communicators) it could do it anytime and anywhere.
Ultimately, recent technology seems to have been pulling the device out of science fiction and turning it into reality. Take, for example, the tech developed by British company Oxford Nanopore Technologies, which aims to bring portable DNA sequencing into everyday reality. They have made significant advancements in processing the information contained within an object’s genetic code, but while the early work is notable, we’re not there yet. Known as the MinION, production was a disappointment to many scientists due to manufacturing delays, inaccurate results, and lack of truly significant features (but we’re taking baby steps).
And what about warp drive? Well, to begin, the core idea behind this travel is not the propulsion we are familiar with. You don’t accelerate at all. Instead, this method utilizes the flexibility of the fabric of space itself.
The most practical design thus far has been a ring built around a smaller craft that could expand space behind it and shrink it in the front. This essentially creates a warp bubble that would shift space-time around the craft. From the inside, it would appear as though you were racing through space, when in fact there would be no acceleration whatsoever!
But there are problems. Sean Carroll, a theoretical cosmologist famous for his popular science books, went on record saying;
The Alcubierre warp drive is a very interesting arena for thought experiments to try to better understand general relativity and quantum field theory, but it should give you zero hope for actually building a spaceship some day. Some of the many problems are discussed on Wikipedia.
In short, it requires negative energy densities, which can’t be strictly disproven but are probably unrealistic; the total amount of energy is likely to be equivalent to the mass-energy of an astrophysical body; and the gravitational fields produced would likely rip any ship to shreds. My personal estimate of the likelihood we will ever be able to build a “warp drive” is much less than 1%. And the chances it will happen in the next hundred years I would put at less than 0.01%.
And, of course, there is more. Take technology like the Holodeck. Arthur C. Clarke’s Third Law says, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” But, as NASA notes, “we can’t assume every magical feat could be accomplished, given sufficiently advanced technology. Holograms are images that appear to have three-dimensional structure. We can’t yet imagine a way to assemble matter in the same way as the light in a hologram.”
While many Star Trek technologies are in the works in one way or another, we still haven’t got around to making the big stuff real. Warp and ion drives, Mr. Data, fusion engines…and a whole lot of other major projects are still major engineering challenges. In fact, even sending signals over astronomically short distances (like to Mars) still results in lag—while they may be based on shreds of actual math, subspace communications of the Star Trek Variety are still rather impossible.
But as was noted, a number of these technologies are already in the works, and we have surpassed Star Trek in several different areas. So although we might not have Klingons and interstellar travel, we have instantaneous global communication; we have computers that we speak to, and they speak back; we have people living in space…so in some ways, we already are living in a Star Trek-esque world.
And it’s that combination of real science and creative imagination that keeps us all coming back to Roddenberry’s world.

The remarkable characteristics of Damascus steel became known to Europe when the Crusaders reached the Middle East, beginning in the 11th century.
They discovered that swords of this metal could split a feather in midair, yet retain their edge through many a battle with the Saracens. The swords were easily recognized by a characteristic watery or ”damask” pattern on their blades.
Such blades were reputed to be not only tough and resistant to shattering, but capable of being honed to a sharp and resilient edge.
The original method of producing Damascus steel is not known. Due to differences in raw materials and manufacturing techniques, modern attempts to duplicate the metal have failed.

Dating back to 4th century A.D., the pillar bears an inscription which states that it was erected as a flagstaff in honour of the Hindu god, Vishnu, and in the memory of the Gupta King Chandragupta II (375-413). How the pillar moved to its present location remains a mystery. The pillar also highlights ancient India's achievements in metallurgy. The pillar is made of 98 per cent wrought iron and has stood 1,600 years without rusting or decomposing.

Hundreds of stone spheres have been documented in Costa Rica, ranging in size from a few centimeters to over two meters in diameter. Almost all of them are made of granodiorite, a hard, igneous stone. These objects are not natural in origin, unlike the stone balls in Jalisco, Mexico that were described in a 1965 National Geographic article. Rather, they are monolithic sculptures made by human hands.
The spheres have been endangered since the moment of their discovery. Many have been destroyed, dynamited by treasure hunters or cracked and broken by agricultural activities. At the time of a major study undertaken in the 1950s, fifty balls were recorded as being in situ. Today, only a handful are known to be in their original locations. Theories abound about who made them and how but the bottom line is no one really knows.

Local legend speculates that Mt. Baigong in the Qinghai Province of China is an ancient extraterrestrial laboratory. Aside from the mysterious pyramid that crowns the mountain, three triangular entrances at the mountain’s base lead the way to hundreds of decrepit metal pipe-like structures of unknown origin.
The rusty tubes, ranging from needle-size to 16 inches in diameter, reach from deep inside the mountain to a saltwater lake 260 feet away. Many of the hollow pipes are uniform in size and seem to be placed purposefully. The ancient objects are embedded deep enough into the mountain wall and floor to preclude modern human handling. The inhospitable environment surrounding the mountain sees only the occasional nomad. Unless these wanderers developed secret advanced metallurgy skills, the pipes were not formed by 'human' hands.
What is astonishing is inside for there is a half-pipe about 40 centimeters in diameter tilting from the top to the inner end of the cave. Another pipe of the same diameter goes into the earth with only its top visible above the ground. At the opening of the cave there are a dozen pipes at the diameter between 10 and 40 centimeters that run straight into the mountain in what appears to be a sophisticated mounting technique. About 80 meters away from the caves is the shimmering Toson Lake, on whose beach 40 meters away, many iron pipes can be found scattered on sands and rocks. They run in the east-west direction with a diameter between 2 and 4.5 centimeters. Oddly there are pipes located in the lake, some reaching above the surface and some remain buried below, scattered across the beach are similar pipes with the same shape and thickness.

The Antikythera Mechanism is one of the world's oldest known geared devices. It has puzzled and intrigued historians of science and technology since its discovery. It was recovered in 1900–01 from the Antikythera wreck, a shipwreck off the Greek island of Antikythera. The device seemed to have a range of interlocking gears made of bronze and a hand crank to give a turning movement to the geared mechanism, plus a display that showed information about the moon, sun and planets against a background of stars. Taking all the available facts into account, the prevailing theory at the moment is that the device was a clockwork-like mechanism designed to display the progress and positions of the sun, moon, and probably all five of the other planets known at the time (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn) over a period of 19 years. In other words: it’s an analog astronomical computer. It had apparently been built several years before the shipwreck - most likely in 82 B.C.
The levels of precision and astronomical understanding necessary to the functionality of the antikythera Mechanism perhaps attest to the strong possibility that this example of ancient genius in mechanics and science was not unique and that its designers and fabricators were capable of producing other examples of such, or similar, instruments.

The Voynich manuscript has been studied by many professional and amateur cryptographers, including American and British code-breakers from both World War I and World War II.No one has yet succeeded in deciphering the text, and it has become a famous case in the history of cryptography.
The mystery of the meaning and origin of the manuscript has excited the popular imagination, making the manuscript the subject of novels and speculation. None of the many hypotheses proposed over the last hundred years has yet been independently verified.
While each page displays plants, none of them has been identified but a more interesting aspect of this mystery is that the manuscript contains astronomical content.
One series of 12 diagrams depicts conventional symbols for the zodiacal constellations. Each of these has 30 female figures arranged in two or more concentric bands. Most of the females are at least partly naked, and each holds what appears to be a labeled star or is shown with the star attached by what could be a tether or cord of some kind to either arm. The last two pages of this section were lost, while Aries and Taurus are split into four paired diagrams with 15 women and 15 stars each. Some of these diagrams are on fold-out pages. The Voynich Manuscript is a true historical mystery but of what time and place is unknown.

Scientists found hashish, cocaine and tobacco in 9 Egyptian mummies, however, tobacco was unknown in the Old World until the Spanish brought it back from the Americas in the Sixteenth Century.
"Apart from an ongoing investigation of hallucinogenic drugs in ancient societies, this preliminary study reports the identification of cocaine, hashish, and nicotine in Egyptian mummies. We took samples of soft tissue, bone, and hair from nine mummies. Drugs were detected by radio-immunoassay and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry."
Ancient Egypt has confounded the experts for centuries and this discovery within the mummies only adds one more element of intrigue.
8. Bagdad Lights
The carvings show ancients using electricity that defy logic but make perfect sense.
One of the great mysteries of ancient Egyptian architecture is how were so many things built without electricity. Pyramids, tombs and temples had a vast network of hallways and tunnels, many were lined with painting and carvings. Was it all done in the dark? That is not very likely.
Some have speculated that it was done with a series of mirrors or copper that reflected light into the vast array of pitch black corridors. To the logical mind that is pretty far fetched.
Many still believe today that the only form of light the Egyptians used came from oil lamps, candles and torches. Well if that's the case where is the soot. Conspicuous by it absence is the soot or black grime or residue that these primitive forms of light emitted. So, how did they do it? Easy, electricity A Norwegian electrical engineer noticed that the object shown on the relief in the photo just above could work as a lamp. An Austrian scientist was able to construct a working model, and two well known authors in the AAS, Peter Krassa and Rainer Habeck, could even work out a real theory based on it. What we see is without question a form of bulb, with two arms reaching into it near its thick end, and a sort of cable at the other end, from where a snake is leaping out to touch the arms on the other side. The whole ensemble really looks like a lamp.
9. San Pedro Mountain Mummy

Oral traditions of many Native American tribes, including the Arapaho, Sioux, Cheyenne, and Crow, tell of "little people” who stand from just 20 inches to three feet tall. In some tribes they are known as "tiny people eaters,” in others they were known to have been spirits and healers, and some believed them to be magical, similar to leprechauns or fairies. In any event, the legends were well known among Indians across the nation, long before the Europeans set foot upon the Americas.
Though many believe these "little people” to be only the stuff of legends, several discoveries point to the contrary, the most significant of which, was a 14” inch fully formed mummy found in 1932. Called the Pedro Mountains Mummy, he was discovered when two men were digging for gold in the San Pedro Mountains about 60 miles southwest of Casper,Wyoming .
Many screamed hoax and scientist assembled to perform test. Anthropologists would soon be surprised to see that x-rays displayed a perfectly formed, manlike skeleton. The examines also showed that the mummy had been killed violently, as the spine was damaged, a collarbone broken, and the skull had been smashed in by a heavy blow. The soft substance at the top of the head exposed brain tissue and congealed blood. After the tests were complete, the scientists estimated that the mummy was a full grown adult who was approximately 65 years old at the time of his death. One odd finding was that its teeth were overly pointed, having a full set of canines.

If Nan Madol was anywhere else on the planet it would attract thousands of visitors a day. There truly is no other place on Earth like it. It is located in Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean. The city, constructed in a lagoon, consists of a series of small man-made islands linked by a network of canals.
According to Pohnpeian legend, Nan Madol was constructed by twin sorcerers Olisihpa and Olosohpa from the mythical Western Katau, or Kanamwayso. The brothers arrived in a large canoe seeking a place to build an altar so that they could worship Nahnisohn Sahpw, the god of agriculture. After several false starts, the two brothers successfully built an altar off Temwen Island, where they performed their rituals. In legend, these brothers levitated the huge stones with the aid of a flying dragon.
The technologies of ancient civilizations continue to baffle scientific explanation. Nan Madol is a ruined city that lies off the eastern shore of the island of Pohnpei and was the capital of the Saudeleur dynasty until about AD 1500. The Megalithic city consists of a series of small artificial islands linked by a network of canals and is often called the "Venice of the Pacific". The name Nan Madol means "spaces between" and is a reference to the canals that crisscross the ruins.The original name was Soun Nan-leng (Reef of Heaven).
Nan Madol required a tremendous effort and expertise so that the great number of stones, weighing anywhere from five to fifty tons, could be moved and raised to where they were needed. To erect walls 10 feet wide and up to 37 feet tall, 250 million pieces of rock(700 000 metric tons) had to be logged in from the quarry on the opposite side of the island. The locals say that the ancient builders used magic. A powerful magician living in the well inhabited region on the northwest of the island was solicited, With "sounds of varying pitch" he made basalt logs fly through the air like birds and settle down in their appointed places.

President Ronald Reagan said he had two UFO sightings, both in a plane, where he told the pilot to follow it, which they did for a few minutes. He constantly thought about this and had inside info from the CIA about the existence of aliens. He knew things...and his subconscious would never stop pushing him to tell the public the truth...but remember what the CIA did when Kennedy pushed the CIA to reveal to NASA the truth...he was killed one week later from the signing of a memo about it. There were four persons aboard the plane: pilot Bill Paynter, two security guards, and the governor of California, Ronald Reagan. As the airplane approached Bakersfield, California, the passengers called Paynter’s attention to a strange object to their rear. “It appeared to be several hundred yards away,” Paynter recalled. “It was a fairly steady light until it began to accelerate. Then it appeared to elongate. Then the light took off. It went up at a 45-degree angle-at a high rate of speed. Everyone on the plane was surprised. . . . The UFO went from a normal cruise speed to a fantastic speed instantly. If you give an airplane power, it will accelerate-but not like a hot rod, and that’s what this was like.”
A week later Reagan recounted the sighting to Norman C. Miller, then Washington bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal. Reagan told Miller, “We followed it for several minutes. It was a bright white light. We followed it to Bakersfield, and all of a sudden to our utter amazement it went straight up into the heavens.” When Miller expressed some doubt, a “look of horror came over [Reagan]. It suddenly dawned on him . . . that he was talking to a reporter.” Immediately afterward, according to Miller, Reagan “clammed up.”
Reagan has not discussed the incident publicly since.

News states: In October 1969, a young Georgia politician was leaving a fundraiser when he spotted a large object glowing in the sky. Four years later, in September 1973, he formally filed a UFO sighting report with the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). That politician was Jimmy Carter, who went on to become the United States' 39th president. A new episode of NASA’s Unexplained Files, which airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. on the Science Channel, explores Carter’s UFO filing. Author William J. Birnes said in the episode: "When he looks up in the sky and he sees an object, it is bigger than the moon. He says to himself, 'That is the darndest thing I ever saw.'" There is no reasonable explanation for what Carter saw that October night, but it continued to occupy his mind. During Carter’s 1976 presidential campaign, he brought up his UFO encounter. He promised that if he was elected, he would encourage the government to release “every piece of information” about UFOs to the public. While Carter did win the election, he later backed away from his promise, saying that the release of such documents would cause national security “defense implications." In a 2007 interview with CNN, Carter was asked about his UFO sighting, to which he replied: “It was unidentified as far as we were concerned, but I think it’s impossible in my opinion — some people disagree — to have space people from other planets or other stars to come to us. I don’t think that’s possible.”
