NASA has quietly made a major move to defend the planet after the mysterious interstellar object displayed more strange and unexplainable behavior.

The supposed comet, dubbed 3I/ATLAS, has just been added to the list of threats tracked by a United Nations-endorsed group focused on planetary defense against near-Earth objects.

The International Asteroid Warning Network (IAWN) works alongside institutions across the world that detect, track, and study near-Earth objects (NEOs) to assess potential impact threats to Earth.

3I/ATLAS is the first interstellar object ever added to the list, triggering a worldwide drill aimed at improving detection skills for space rocks and preparing Earth for a potential incoming threat.

On Tuesday, officials with IAWN admitted that the object was causing 'unique challenges' for predicting its trajectory and decided to add 3I/ATLAS to the Comet Astrometry Campaign. 

The object has displayed several unusual features that defy the typical behavior of comets, including an 'anti-tail,' a jet of particles that points toward the Sun rather than away from it. 

According to the release, scientists will be running a special training exercise from November 27, 2025, to January 27, 2026. 

Telescopes and tracking systems around the world will focus on 3I/ATLAS to refine methods for pinpointing its exact location in the sky.

'They're calling it 'a test of improved astrometry methods.' In other words, the object isn't behaving like it should,' one person wrote on X.

'When every telescope from Mauna Kea to Chile is being synced on one object, that's not a drill,' another X user posted.   

The Daily Mail reached out to NASA on Wednesday, but the agency maintained that the entire space program is 'currently closed' due to the ongoing government shutdown and did not comment further.

It is part of IAWN, along with the likes of the European Space Agency, which are all helping to organize this as a team effort to keep Earth safe from nearby asteroids and comets.

NASA isn't launching rockets to defend the planet from 3I/ATLAS, with the announcement treating this major event more like a tip-sharing exercise for stargazers everywhere to take better pictures of the supposed comet.

While scientists claimed they do not plan to begin the worldwide watch party until late November, 3I/ATLAS is just days away from making its closest approach to the sun, slipping out of view. 

Harvard scientist Avi Loeb has theorized that this shocking 'maneuver' is a telltale sign of a spacecraft using the gravity of a large star to change its speed and course. 

Before its recent strange behavior near the sun, 3I/ATLAS was scheduled to make its closest pass by Earth in December, but skeptics claim that activating the planetary warning system is proof that government officials fear this is no harmless comet.

Loeb explained that in space travel, the best time to speed up or slow down a spacecraft is when it's closest to a large object, since firing the engine at that point, known as the Oberth effect, gives the biggest change in speed.

3I/ATLAS will reach its best window for an Oberth maneuver in one week when it comes within 126 million miles of our sun.

Whether it's a comet or something sent by an intelligence elsewhere in the galaxy, astronomers have concluded that it could be gigantic, with a diameter of more than 28 miles.

'If 3I/ATLAS is a massive mothership, it will likely continue along its original gravitational path and ultimately exit the Solar system,' Loeb shared in a Sunday blog post.

The professor has previously suggested that 3I/ATLAS could be a nuclear-powered craft after the Hubble Space Telescope revealed a picture that appeared to show the object generating its own light this summer.

During its closest pass by Mars on October 3, space probes sent back images which seemed to suggest that 3I/ATLAS was a giant cylindrical object coated in nickel, causing it to glow green.

This has fueled even more speculation that the comet is an extraterrestrial probe, as human spacecraft use nickel in the same way to protect them from super-hot rocket exhaust.

Top secret military firm confesses to sparking New Jersey drone hysteria that left America on edge

A private firm contracted by the United States military has taken responsibility for the mysterious objects seen flying above New Jersey last November.

The sightings sparked mass hysteria and concerns over the existence of UFOs after footage went viral of unidentified objects lighting up the night sky.

But a private contractor revealed at the Army's UAS and Launched Effects Summit at Fort Rucker in August that they had launched the objects to 'test out their capabilities,' according to NYPost.

'You remember that big UFO scare in New Jersey last year? Well, that was us,' an employee of the unnamed contractor allegedly told a crowd at the event.

According to a source at the summit, the employee went on to claim there was no need to disclose their work to the public because they had a private government contract.

The company reportedly offered a live demonstration of their manned aerial craft, which had an unconventional appearance.

Sharing details of the demonstration, which went for about 30 minutes above Fort Rucker in the controlled airspace, the source said:  'When it turned you almost completely lose sight of it.

'Which is why I think people were seeing this up in the sky and why there were reports of people seeing it and saying it disappeared.'

In a short 13 second clip posted to social media in November 2024, a white light blinked in the sky before suddenly vanishing, leaving onlookers stunned. 

In the footage, which was shot close near Atlantic City, family members were heard discussing what they witnessed before the object suddenly disappears.

'It just vanished!' one said. 'I just watched it through the telescope.'

Some 964 sightings of flying objects were logged in the state between November 19 up until December 13, according to statistics collected by the state’s Office of Emergency Management.

Former CIA operations officer Laura Ballman had warned that the drones lighting up multi-state skies may be a 'classified exercise.' 

She told Fox News Live that the drone sightings were 'extremely unsettling,' and shared her theory that they may be part of a technology 'test' orchestrated by the federal government. 

Ballman said: 'Now in terms of who is behind this, seeing the statements that have been made by John Kirby, who has said that these objects are not operating illegally.

'Coupled with the several op-eds that have been out there in the last 24 hours about the need to look at our detection systems, [it] makes me think perhaps this is actually a classified exercise to test either evasion technology or detection technology in urban areas.'

White House National Security spokesman John Kirby had confirmed the aircraft were not foreign.

'We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or a public safety threat or have a foreign nexus,' Kirby said.

'The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are investigating these sightings, and they're working closely with the state and local law enforcement to provide resources using numerous detection methods to better understand their origin.'

He said the agencies used 'very sophisticated electronic detection technologies' but  'have not been able to corroborate any of the reported visual sightings.'

'To the contrary, upon review of available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft being operated lawfully,' he said.

One such individual who had plenty of such stories to tell was an Ottoman explorer who traveled the ends of the earth to bring back many odd tales, including those of the decidedly supernatural. The Ottoman explorer, traveler, and writer Evliya Çelebi was born in 1611 in Constantinople, now Istanbul, Turkey, during the height of the Ottoman Empire, which was created by Turkish tribes in Anatolia (Asia Minor) and grew exponentially to be one of the most imposing and powerful states in the whole world during the 15th and 16th centuries. The son of the chief court jeweler, Celebi’s intelligence, wit, extensive knowledge of the Koran, and natural gift for music and languages, with him able to speak Arabic, Persian, Greek and Latin, captured the attention of the imam of Sultan Murad IV, and at just the tender age of twelve he was taken in as an apprentice to Sultan, excelling as a Koran reader and able to recite long passages perfectly from memory, by some accounts all of it. 

He did not start out as the intrepid traveler he would become; instead, he was absorbed in his studies of Arabic, calligraphy, and music at the Ottoman palace school, but at some point, he discovered his deep wanderlust when he began embarking on official travels that took him from Belgrade to Baghdad and from Crimea to Cairo. Even at this point, his ultimate goal was to be a member of the Imperial court; it was something his family also desperately wanted for him despite his urges to travel over the horizon, but one night, he was to have an epiphany that would change his life forever.

On the very night of his twentieth birthday, Celebi allegedly had a vision of the Prophet Muhammad, as well as His Companions and the four first caliphs of Islam in a vivid dream. In this dream, he was told to give up his designs of joining the court and rather spend his life traveling to the far corners of the world so that he might “compose a marvelous work” based on his adventures to far-flung exotic lands. The Prophet would tell him:

“Thou shalt travel through the whole world and be a marvel among men. Of the countries through which you will pass, of their castles, strongholds, wonderful antiquities, eatables and drinkables ... the extent of their provinces and the length of the days there, draw up a description which will be a monument worthy of thee.”

On the strength of this potent dream, Celebi decided to defy his parents’ wishes to be a member of the Imperial court and give up everything to follow what the Prophet had told him to do. And so he set off on a life of journeys that would span the next three decades, traveling with an entourage of mules, camels, travel companions, and up to a dozen slaves at any given time, on extensive travels that would take him from one end of the known world to the other, often returning to enthrall the court with tales of adventure and mystery. Along the way, Celebi would compile a vast, sprawling 10-volume tome of travel memoirs and notes called the Seyahatname, or the “Book of Travels,” also sometimes referred to as the Tarihi seyyah (“Chronicle of a Traveler”), which has been called “the longest and fullest travel account in Islamic literature, perhaps in world literature.” Within the many hundreds of pages of this vast masterpiece of travel literature are tales of strange customs and lands, exotic people and cultures, fantastical animals, and bloody battles and massacres, as well as the landmarks, ethnography, history, and geography of the lands he visited in Europe, Asia, Africa, and beyond, and all manner of bizarre and amazing tales of the things he had seen and done. It is an impressive and unique manuscript to be sure, with pages upon pages of amazing and spectacular adventures, but within these volumes, among the various exotic people, customs, and tales of far-flung lands beyond the understanding of the time are some stories that stand out as weirder than others, and here we get into all of the damn witches, vampires and zombies Celebi claims to have come across. 

Throughout the pages of the Seyahatname, Celebi makes frequent mention of magic, sorcery, the supernatural, and metaphysical beings, and one prime example of this is an incident he claimed happened to him on the night of April 26, 1666, in the tiny Pedsi village of the Caucasus. He claimed that one dark, moonless evening, there had been a sudden, very intense flash of lightning outside that had roused him from his writings. These flashes continued, and when Celebi asked some of the villagers what was going on, they told him that once a year, there was a night during which Circassian witches and Abkhaz witches flew to the sky and engaged in battle in a great war. Astonished by this, Celebi then went outside to see for himself, where he was met by quite the bizarre sight. 

He claimed that when he looked up he saw “witches on large trees, cubes, boats, carriage wheels and many other similar objects fighting witches on horses, cattle, carrion and dead camels, with snakes, horses and camel heads in their hands,” all behind the backdrop of intermittent flashes and swaths of bright light across the sky, now obviously not from lightning, but rather through the magical might of their sorcery. At one point, there was an enormous, thunderous explosion, after which “felt, poles, cubes, doors and carriage wheels, and parts of humans and animals such as horses” fell from the sky, followed by seven Abkhazian witches and seven Circassian witches hurtling to the ground, where they continued to fight. According to the account, the Circassian witches killed the Abkhazian witches by sucking their blood, after which they hurled the lifeless bodies onto a bonfire. After this, there was the crowing of roosters, and the remaining witches took flight to disappear into the night. Celebi makes it a point to mention that he would have never believed such a thing possible if he had not seen it himself, and we are left to wonder what was going on here.

Celebi would write of other encounters with witches as well. In one incident, he was staying in the Çalıkkavak village of Bulgaria when he claimed to have come across an “old miserable woman with messy hair and an ugly face and seven children.” This woman and her children entered the non-Muslim house where he was staying and gathered around the fire, where the women gathered up some ashes and performed some kind of arcane spell. After this, the old hag and the children allegedly transformed into chickens right before the eyes of Celebi and other members of his expedition. Celebi would write of what transpired next:

“The next thing we knew, a heathen was peeing on chickens. At that moment, they all turned into human beings. Some other people grabbed the woman and the children by the arms and beat them. We went and saw that the church was where they arrived later. They handed the woman over to the priest, and the priest excommunicated her. My men swore an oath after this incident. They all saw this incident and witnessed that the chickens turned into humans. That night, my nosebleed did not stop out of fear. The bleeding stopped in the morning.”

His other stories of witches seem to imply something we would be more familiar with as vampires. Celebi claimed that the Caucasus region was particularly infested with such creatures. He told of bloodsucking witches prowling remote villages and drinking the blood of the terrified populace, after which any villager who was fed on in such a way would become sick, die, and then rise from the dead to do the same thing as some sort of undead abomination. These terrifying entities were said to return to sleep in the ground during the day, and according to Celebi, the villagers would sometimes unearth one to find it flushed and the eyes bloodshot from having fed. This “witch” would then be dispatched with a long stake of blackberries that was “nailed to her belly,” and her body then burned to ashes in a fire. If this were done, then any of the other blood-drinking revenants that the witch had spawned would supposedly revert to normal human form. On other occasions, a blood-drinking witch would be captured, put in chains, and forced to confess her black magic, after which she would be killed with a stake and immolated, but not before some of her blood was taken to rub it on her victims to cure them of their affliction. If some of the details here sound familiar, it is because such tales are considered to be some of the earliest vampire stories, and are even thought to have influenced Bram Stoker for his book Dracula.

Is any of this true? That is a tough question to answer. The veracity of anything written in the Seyahatname has long been debated, as while Celebi claims that his work is the will of Allah and an honest chronicle, it is peppered with numerous stories and claims that seem like they can’t possibly be true. Interspersed throughout the vast tome are countless embellishments, flourishes, and just stuff he made up, such as inaccurate geography or descriptions of places he had obviously never been to, battles that could not have possibly happened as described, and numerous fantastical animals, people, and plants, including giant avian monsters, humans with animal heads, chimeras, dragon-like beasts, giant waxen plants like nothing known, a strange yellow tree whose leaves miraculously cured syphilis, and many other strange anomalies. 

What makes it harder to weed out the fantasy, fairy tale elements is that there are also long passages that are actually incredibly accurate, matching up perfectly with what we now know about the places and people he encountered, as well as accurate and meticulous transcriptions of languages that were unknown at the time, while other stories are almost certainly tall tales and then there are those that incorporate elements of both. There could be an otherwise honest and sober, accurate depiction of history that will feature a jarring inclusion such as a cat freezing in midair as it jumps from roof to roof, a virgin woman giving birth to an elephant, or some other obvious flight of fancy. 

This has all posed a bit of a conundrum for historians, as it is sometimes nearly impossible to parse fact from fiction in this hodgepodge of the real and imagined, and reading it is akin to trying to solve a puzzle. Indeed, some experts have claimed that only about 50 percent of the entire text is factual, while the other is heavy exaggeration or pure bunk. Some passages are obvious truths, while others are obvious lies, but there are also large swaths in which the lies are not particularly obvious, a sort of blurring of the line between reality and fantasy, making it even harder to tell if what you are reading is true or not and hiding possible tantalizing insights into history behind a murky lense. Edward White, author of The Tastemaker: Carl Van Vechten and the Birth of Modern America, has said of it:

“In the Seyahatname, pages can whistle by without an honest word in sight, though Evliya emphasizes that he is upholding the will of Allah. Typically, “Evliya the unhypocritical” reminds us of his pious commitment to scrupulousness just before he launches into an obvious lie about, say, an encounter with a woman from the Black Sea who gave birth to an elephant, the rhinoceros-riding tribes of the Sudan, or the man-eating Buddhists of Kalmyia. “God is my witness that this took place,” he says before one such tale—cast-iron evidence that it didn’t. Historians debate whether these fairy-tale inventions are intended as satirical barbs at the hyperbolic travel writers or an homage to the fantastical stories of Arabian Nights on which Evliya had grown up. Likely, it was both. But it’s also pretty clear that every now and then he simply got bored with faithfully recording reality and decided to amuse himself by splicing the mundane with the phantasmagorical. The fun for the reader comes in trying to spot the moment when empirical truth ends and one of Evliya’s campfire yarns begins.”

If he is lying, then it seems strange, considering he was such a devout Muslim, to the point that he routinely referred to non-Muslims as "infidels" and "heathens," swearing to Allah that it was all true, that he would defy that faith to tell tall tales. Celebi would settle in Cairo near the end of his life, dying in 1684 to leave behind this fascinating and frustrating historical travel account, with no notes or indications from the author himself as to where reality ends and the tall tales begin. Indeed, as far as he was concerned, it was all a completely true and honest account of his travels; he insists so on many occasions, even swearing to Allah that it is so, and so we are left with this lengthy text that harbors tantalizing historical facts mixed in with a lot of question marks. Unfortunately for many who would study it, while the Seyahatname is very well-known in its native Turkey, it is more obscure in the West. Indeed, there currently is no complete English translation of the entire work, just certain parts, and the only other language it has been translated into to an appreciable degree is German, leaving much of it in the dark to those not up to speed on their Turkish. 

We are left with an epic piece of travel literature that has fascinated and puzzled historians right up to the present, perpetually stuck in a limbo of interpretation and debate. How much of these accounts is true and what is false? Did this explorer ever really come across the supernatural creatures he claims he did? What are we to make of all this? It seems that in the end, Evliya Çelebi and his strange texts on his mysterious travels and encounters will likely forever remain in the shadows, cryptic and misunderstood. 

Moving along, in the 19th century, the wealthy and eccentric English naturalist and explorer Charles Waterton traveled the world collecting an eclectic mix of specimens that he then used his formidable skills in taxidermy to create exhibitions for his estate, a sort of museum of the strange and macabre. He was, by all accounts, a rather odd individual, known for his remarkably eccentric behavior and myriad odd claims. For instance, he was known to prowl about his estate acting like a dog and biting strangers on their legs, dressing like a scarecrow and sitting in trees, pretending to be his own butler, and making a myriad of bizarre claims such as that he could “navigate the atmosphere,” but he was still nevertheless respected for his writings on natural history and conservation, which were groundbreaking at the time.

In 1804, Waterton made his way to the South American country of Guyana to take control of some of his uncle’s estates there, and he would branch out to explore and collect various specimens of the wildlife there as well, as he was wont to do. Between 1812 and 1824, he would make various journeys and expeditions out into the unexplored areas of the country, all the while collecting numerous specimens of wildlife, which he would put on display in his home, amassing an enormous menagerie of stuffed birds and animals in the process. He was known for his unique method of taxidermy, in which he would use a mercury-based chemical to harden the skins and make them hollow, yet very lifelike simulacrums of the animals they had been. One of the most famous of all of these was a curious little exhibition that concerned an anomalous head of a monkey-like creature that Waterton simply referred to as “The Nondescript.”

The origins of this peculiar specimen were written of in Waterton’s 1825 travel memoir Wanderings in South America, a fairly influential work which is said to have even captured the imagination of a young Charles Darwin, and turned out to date back to an expedition to the jungles of Guyana during which he came across a rather odd beast indeed. During the journey, the expedition allegedly came across a rather peculiar humanoid creature that was covered with thick hair and possessed a tail and a face with strikingly human features. The group did the human thing and promptly shot and killed it, after which Waterton claimed he had been forced to preserve merely the head and neck of the beast. Waterton would say of this:

“I also procured an animal which has caused not a little speculation and astonishment. In my opinion, his thick coat of hair and great length of tail, put his species out of all question; but then, his face and head cause the inspector to pause for a moment before he ventures to pronounce his opinion of the classification. He was a large animal, and as I was pressed for daylight, and moreover, felt no inclination to have the whole weight of his body upon my back, I contented myself with his head and shoulders, which I cut off, and have brought them with me to Europe.”

Since the weird specimen looked so incredibly human, albeit with a hairy body, there were all kinds of theories orbiting the find. One was that Waterton had actually shot, killed, and stuffed the corpse of a native tribesman, which he had then snuck into the country through bribing customs officials, which Waterton himself vehemently denied, claiming that it had been some sort of unidentified ape-like creature. Another theory was that the creature on display was exactly what Waterton claimed it to be: some sort of new type of primate.

The specimen itself was just the head and shoulders, with a strikingly human countenance with a hairless face and large eyes surrounded by a thick, red mane, sort of reminiscent of an orangutan. The specimen drew flocks of gasping, puzzled onlookers, but some were aware of Waterton’s skill with taxidermy and began to suspect that this was some sort of cleverly crafted fake. It was suggested that he had merely taken the corpse of a howler monkey, in particular its hindquarters, and modified it to make it more human in appearance. Indeed, he had already shown a propensity for using taxidermy for satire and to make a political point, such as using lizards to craft into likenesses of various famous Protestant figures (Waterton was a devout Roman Catholic), and he had indulged in creative taxidermy on many occasions before.

It was even pointed out that the “Nondescript” bore an uncanny resemblance to a customs official who had given Waterton some trouble on his return to England from Guyana. Apparently, when he had docked, there had been a customs inspector named Mr. Lushington, who had seen the mass of animal specimens and demanded that Waterton pay a premium tax on the haul. Waterton had fought the import tax, but had invariably been forced to pay it, which had apparently irritated him to no end.

The thing is, while with all of his other, more creative designs, he had readily admitted to the whole thing, with the Nondescript, he not only firmly denied any tampering with the specimen, but actually provided a full back story to capturing it. He always maintained that the specimen was real, and there were plenty of people who believed him. Why would he do such a thing? It has been suggested that he was trying to test his skill by presenting a hoax as real and seeing how well it stood up to scrutiny, or that it was even meant to be a beacon to try and draw more exploration to Guyana, or even a satirical jab at other naturalists of the time. Others think that this was just a long-running practical joke that he had thought up for the fun of it all, or merely a stubborn dis of the customs official who had irked him. To this day, the specimen is exhibited at the Wakefield Museum in England, and still generates controversy as to its origins and reality. In the end, it is unknown.

Finally, we get to the adventures of anthropologists. Like in any science, the anthropologist looks for studies of human activity through investigation of physical evidence, through stringent protocols, and fact-based research. Yet also, as in many sciences, the researcher sometimes hits a wall of bafflement in which they are no longer penetrating into the unknown, but groping along the edges of it, trying to make sense of it and find a way in. There have been a handful of these explorers and researchers who have come up against something they truly do not understand and which their training has not prepared them for, brushes with forces beyond their comprehension. So next up we will look at a selection of instances in which respected, highly seasoned scientific anthropologists in Africa had supernatural experiences that would challenge their beliefs and the very fundamentals of what reality is.

First off is American cultural anthropologist and professor of anthropology at West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Paul Stoller, who is one of the most respected in his field, over his more than 30 years of field work earning many accolades, numerous academic awards, and grants from Wenner-Gren Foundation, Fulbright-Hays, the National Science Foundation, the American Philosophical Society, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as receiving a prestigious John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. The American Anthropological Association named him the recipient of the Robert B Textor Award for Excellence in Anthropology, and he has also won the coveted Anders Retzius Medal in Gold, given once every three years by the King of Sweden, for his scientific contributions to anthropology. He has written numerous ethnographies, biographies, memoirs, and novels, as well as countless articles, many of which have been nominated for various awards. He is highly respected in his field, and is also interesting in the fact that much of his fieldwork and studies relate to magic, sorcery and spirit possession.

Stoller was long interested in various ritual practices, specifically in Africa, and far from just sitting in his study reading about such things, he really went the whole hog. In the 1970s, he travelled to the Republic of Niger and Mali in order to live among the Songhay people and study their culture and linguistics. It was here that he would cultivate an interest in actual magic and sorcery, and he has said of the evolution of this interest in magic in the workshop, Weaving the World: Writing Evocative Ethnographies:

“I think that the topic chooses the anthropologist rather than the other way around. In Songhay they say that if you want to seek out sorcery or magic, you will never discover it. You might approach it, you might talk about it, you might meet some people, but it will never grab you. So, what happens according to them is, if you eat magic, which is, you eat the substances to transform yourself, then magic eats you. If you consume history, you are consumed by it. It is the larger force of things that focuses on you. In my case, my initial fieldwork was in linguistic anthropology and I was interested in Friday mosque sermons. I never sought out to learn about sorcery. But then – I described this in my book In Sorcery’s Shadow (1987) – there were these two birds living in a rafter of the house where I was living. They were pooping on my floor and I got all irritated with these birds so I would knock their nest down. They would fly away, but then build another nest and get closer and closer to where my desk was. So after a while I just stopped paying attention to them. One day one of the birds pooped on my head in the presence of a guy that I thought was a rice farmer. But he turned out to be a Songhay healer. He said, “I’ve seen a sign, you’ve been pointed out to me. Come to my house and begin to learn.” That is how I got into the topic of sorcery. For me at least, things have sought me out. I have stumbled into sorcery.”

Stoller would jump fully into the world of Songhay sorcery and magical practices, living in a hut and studying under a man named Adamu Jenitongo, considered to be one of the most knowledgeable and powerful Songhay sorcerers of his era, as well as under the apprenticeship of another sorcerer called Hamidou Salou. This took him into a murky world of strange powers, dark forces, and mysterious spirits that most outsiders have never even heard of, much less become a part of. Among his studies of various spells and rituals, he had some particularly odd experiences. One of these was a time he tried to help a friend bless his house, as it was apparently being terrorized by a powerful evil spirit called Dongo, which was greatly feared by the local people to the point that they did not dare even so much as invoke its name. The ritual involved the sacrifice of a black rooster, but Stoller apparently botched the spell and angered the spirit and causing it to plague him with misfortune. He would say of this:

“Things began to unravel a few days later. After a short trip to Tillaberi, Adamu Jenitongo’s village 75 miles north of Niamey, I returned to the capital city and was in a car accident, bruising my forehead when it slammed against the sun visor. The evening after the accident, I attended a wedding ceremony and developed a pounding headache, blurry vision, and a high fever – telltale signs of the onset of malaria. Complaining about my symptoms, his in-law, a physician, gave me sulfa drugs to teach the ‘malaria’. The drugs quickly produced an allergic reaction – a severe rash that spread over my torso and down my legs. I became more feverish and was soon too weak to walk. At night I had disturbing ‘malarial’ dreams, all of which were about my difficult death. After several days of suffering, I somehow gathered the strength to get out of bed, dress myself and hail a taxi, which I took to Hamidou’s hut. I told Hamidou my tale of transgression.”

His mentor chastised him, calling him a “foolish boy,” telling him that his attempt to banish Dongo had greatly angered the spirit, especially since he had tried it as just a lowly and unworthy apprentice. Stoller was sent on his way back to the United States to recuperate from his illness, along with a satchel of magical herbs, medicine, and resin to help him. Oddly, although he was very sick, doctors could find nothing physically wrong with him and no reason why he was ill. It wasn’t malaria or any other known disease; doctors were stumped. However, after burning the resin every day and taking the herbs and medicine he had been given by the sorcerer, he made a full recovery within a few days. Stoller would write several books on his experiences with the Songhay, including In Sorcery’s Shadow, The Burden of Writing the Sorcerer’s Burden: Ethnography, Fiction and the Future of Anthropological Expression, and Fusion of the Worlds: Ethnography of Possession Among the Songhay of Niger, the latter of which would be nominated for the prestigious J.I. Staley Prize. He continues to do anthropology work and fill halls for his numerous lectures, as well as blogging regularly on culture, politics, and higher education for The Huffington Post.

Another anthropologist who experienced some odd things during fieldwork in Africa was English anthropologist E. E. Evans-Pritchard, who was a pioneer in the development of social anthropology, President of the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland from 1949–51, Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Oxford from 1946 to 1970, and also the recipient of numerous honors, including the Rivers Memorial Medal and of the Huxley Memorial Medal, and he was even knighted in 1971. In short, he was no quack. He is best known for his work on various religious practices among African tribes, particularly in Sudan and among the Azande people of the upper Nile in the 1920s. While studying their ways, he did much research on their magic and witchcraft, and although he mostly did this through a scientific lens, he reportedly had some strange experiences that he would not be able to easily explain. In his book Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic Among the Azande, he writes of one particularly odd incident:

“I have only once seen witchcraft on its path. I had been sitting late in my hut writing notes. About midnight, before retiring, I took a spear and went for my usual nocturnal stroll. I was walking in the garden at the back of my hut, amongst banana trees, when I noticed a bright light passing at the back of my servants’ huts towards the homestead of a man called Tupoi. As this seemed worth investigation I followed its passage until a grass screen obscured the view. I ran quickly through my hut to the other side in order to see where the light was going to, but did not regain sight of it. I knew that one man, a member of my household, had a lamp that might have given off so bright a light, but next morning he told me that he had neither been out late at night nor had he used his lamp. There did not lack ready informants to tell me that what I had seen was witchcraft. Shortly afterwards, on the same morning, an old relative of Tupoi and an inmate of his homestead died. This event fully explained the light I had seen. I never discovered [the light’s] real origin, which was possibly a handful of grass lit by someone on his way to defecate, but the coincidence of the direction along which the light moved and the subsequent death accorded well with Zande ideas.”

What was going on here? Finally, we have the English-American anthropologist Edith Turner, who, among the various far-flung people she studied, covering such places as Mexico, Israel, Japan, Brazil, India, Sri Lanka, and Korea, also spent much time doing fieldwork among the Ndembu of Zambia and the Bagisu of Uganda. She was known for her interest in the various rituals, shamanism, and especially the magical healing practices of these places, and it was during her time in Africa that she would allegedly witness this type of magic firsthand. In 1985, as she was living among the Ndembu people, she was invited to attend a spiritual healing ceremony for a woman named Meru. Leading the ritual was a witch doctor by the name of Singleton, who had deemed the woman’s sickness to be caused by possession by a malicious spirit called an ihamba. After covering the victim and others present with red clay to protect themselves from the ihamba jumping into their bodies and taking some herbal concoction, the bizarre ritual began with trying to guide the spirit out of the body, which would supposedly take the form of a tooth, and Turner would describe what unfolded next in her book Experiencing Ritual:

"Clap, clap, clap – Mulandu was leaning forward, and all the others were on their feet – this was it. Quite an interval of struggle elapsed while I clapped like one possessed, crouching beside Bill amid a lot of urgent talk, while Singleton pressed Meru’s back, guiding and leading out the tooth. Meru’s face in a grin of tranced passion, her back quivering rapidly. Suddenly Meru raised her arm, stretched it in liberation, and I saw with my own eyes a giant thing emerging out of the flesh of her back. An opaque ‘plasma’ might describe it. This thing was a large gray blob about six inches across, a deep gray opaque thing emerging as a sphere. I was amazed-delighted. I still laugh with glee at the realization of having seen it, the ihamba, and so big! We were all just one in triumph. The gray thing was actually out there, visible, and you could see Singleton’s hands working and scrabbling on the back, and then the thing was there no more. Singleton had it in his pouch, pressing it in with his other hand as well. The receiving can was ready; he transferred whatever it was into the can and capped the castor oil leaf and bark lid over it. It was done. I did not merely intuit the spirit form emerging from Meru’s back but saw it, saw it with my own eyes. This is different from intuition or imagination; it is nearer to seeing a ghost."

Rather oddly, Turner would claim to have psychic experiences and occasionally go into strange trances for the rest of her life. Such cases are curious because they come from trained scientific professionals and blur the line between the reality we know and the world beyond our normal senses. 

What is going on in these cases? These are people who have gone out to faraway places that most of us could never imagine going to, getting peeks into cultures far removed from our everyday lives, and although expecting to see the strange, coming across things that they were perhaps not ready for and which challenged their beliefs. Whatever they experienced out there on their travels, it just goes to show that in some ways, no matter how much our knowledge of the world has increased, there are still dark pockets of the unknown lying out in the shadows.

The object discovered by miners in Western Australia on Saturday is of extraterrestrial origin. Experts identified it as a fragment of a Chinese Jielong-3 rocket stage. Its fall once again highlights the importance of solving the problem of space debris. 

Mysterious burning object

On October 18, workers at a mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia discovered a mysterious burning object lying on the ground. At first, it was assumed that it had fallen from space, so specialists from the Australian Space Agency arrived at the site. After inspection, they confirmed that the object was indeed connected to Earth’s orbit, but its origin turned out to be terrestrial.

To be more precise, the object turned out to be a fragment of a stage of the Chinese Jielong-3 rocket. Most likely the one that launched 12 communications satellites into orbit in September this year. More precisely, the space agency has determined with certainty that it is a fuel tank, while the rest are details that still need to be confirmed.

But if it is indeed a fragment of a Chinese rocket, then according to the international agreement on space, they have to be fully responsible for the consequences of its fall. But the debris should be returned to them.

Space debris

This time, the fuel tank crash in Australia did not have any consequences. But overall, this is a huge problem. The space around Earth is becoming increasingly crowded. There are more than 10,000 active satellites and possibly up to 40,000 pieces of space debris larger than 10 cm. By the end of this decade, approximately 70,000 satellites could be in low Earth orbit, at an altitude of less than 2,000 km.

And of all the space debris, fuel tanks and rocket stages are the most problematic. If satellites are initially designed to burn up completely in the atmosphere, then the tanks have to be made of a more heat-resistant material that can easily survive re-entry into the atmosphere, allowing them to reach the surface.

A report presented at the International Astronautical Congress in Sydney earlier this month lists the 50 most dangerous pieces of space debris in low Earth orbit, 88% of which are rocket bodies. 

Usually, to avoid problems with spent stages, enough fuel is left in them to ensure their descent into an uninhabited area over the Pacific Ocean. But the Chinese often fail to do so, resulting in their rocket stages falling in random locations.

The idea was advanced by a pair of researchers in a new paper, which argues that the trajectory of NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft and the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Hera spacecraft could allow them to pass directly through the trail of ions left in 3I/ATLAS’s wake.

Doing so might offer astronomers a rare opportunity to collect samples of material from other worlds, which the odd interstellar comet has ejected during its unprecedented visit.

Mission Into an Interstellar Object’s Odd “Ion Tail”

Between October 30 and November 6, 2025, the trajectories of the Europa Clipper and Hera space missions may briefly align with the ion trail left by 3I/ATLAS, allowing their instruments to collect information through detections of charged particles carried outward from the object by the solar wind.

“During the period 30 October – 6 November 2025, it is predicted that Europa Clipper will potentially be immersed within the ion tail of 3I/ATLAS, providing the opportunity to detect the signatures of an interstellar comet’s ion tail, write authors Samuel Grant and Geraint Jones in their paper, which appeared on the preprint arXiv.org server on October 15, 2025.

“Characteristic changes to the solar wind are also expected to be observed,” the authors say, which will likely include what they characterize as “a magnetic draping structure” potentially emanating from the comet.

Even prior to Europa Clipper’s potential passage through the mysterious ion tail of 3I/ATLAS, Grant and Jones believe that the ESA’s Hera spacecraft “will possibly be immersed within the ion tail of 3I/ATLAS during the period 25 October – 1 November 2025.”

Neither spacecraft will be endangered during their potential transit of the interstellar comet’s tail of charged particles, although the implications of doing so could end up being profound, in that they may offer the first opportunity to make indirect observations of material samples from another star system.

A Fortuitous Cosmic Alignment

Grant and Jones are uniquely placed to make such predictions about these space missions and their path in the ion wake of 3I/ATLAS, as they are the ESA researchers behind Tailcatcher, a computer model that tracks how packets of solar wind interact with comets.

According to their calculations, Europa Clipper may be equipped to detect very subtle changes in the plasma environment in space as the comet’s material sweeps by it, moving at speeds of several hundred miles per second.

The Rarity of Interstellar Visitors

One reason 3I/ATLAS captivates astronomers is its origins beyond our solar system, which likely helps explain several of its odd characteristics. Unlike comets from within our solar system, objects like 3I/ATLAS and its predecessors 2I/Borisov and 1I/Oumuamua hail from stars in vastly distant regions in space, and therefore carry with them material they obtained during these interactions that occurred eons ago.

Because of this, current observations about 3I/ATLAS estimate that it is not only the fastest comet ever observed by astronomers, but also potentially the oldest they have ever seen.

Given their rarity, we have been able to collect virtually no data about the composition of these interstellar objects. All the information we have comes from telescopic observations or those made using camera systems on board various space probes, like those currently orbiting Mars.

As recent attempts at visualizing 3I/ATLAS have shown, at times these observations can prove to be especially challenging—not to mention the fact that amid the U.S. government shutdown, NASA has been unable to release what could be some of the most important visuals yet obtained of 3I/ATLAS, believed to have been made by the HiRISE camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) earlier this month.

3I/ATLAS’s “Hidden” Tail

Like the interstellar object itself, the dust trail produced by 3I/ATLAS is also well out of reach of any current space missions. However, the same can’t be said of the ionic tail the object produces while being bombarded by solar winds during its approach near the Sun.

Driven by this constant and extremely powerful flow of highly charged particles that disperse throughout our solar system from the Sun, particulates ejected from 3I/ATLAS, apart from the dusty material that immediately surrounds it, are carried away from the object in the same direction as the solar wind, producing a secondary ion tail.

Given the challenges that collecting data about these objects presents, an opportunity to sample ions left in its tail of highly charged particles, even indirectly, could provide us with the closest look at the chemistry of an alien solar system that astronomers have ever obtained.

A Missed Opportunity?

It is frustrating, therefore, that amid the ongoing U.S. government shutdown, Europa Clipper currently remains in cruise mode as it makes its way toward Jupiter and may not be able to activate its scientific instruments before this rare encounter approaches.

Hence, while we await seeing whether the MRO’s HiRISE camera was able to obtain imagery of 3I/ATLAS in its near approach to Mars on October 3, it also remains in question whether the Europa Clipper spacecraft could be activated in time for it to collect any data from the ion tail emanating from 3I/ATLAS.

For any useful data to be obtained, precision measurements will be required to discriminate between the interstellar comet’s ions and those emitted by the Sun. Fortunately, there are several ways to identify ions from comets, including the chemicals they contain, such as those related to water. In contrast, ions originating from the Sun can be expected to exhibit more helium.

Even if Europa Clipper manages to engage the ion tail of 3I/ATLAS with its instruments in operational mode, astronomers will still have to rely on the solar winds flowing strongly enough and in the right direction at the time of the encounter. Even a relatively minor angular deviation could result in the ionic stream coming from 3I/ATLAS missing the spacecraft entirely.

Hope on the Horizon

However, one promising aspect of the idea proposed by Grant and Jones is that 3I/ATLAS will reach its closest approach to the Sun, known as perihelion, on October 29. This happens to occur just prior to the predicted alignment with Europa Clipper’s path, and as the comet’s activity peaks as it nears the Sun, the ionic tail it produces will widen, which increases the chances that it may be able to detect material being ejected from it.

Additionally, the ESA’s Hera spacecraft may also pass through the solar wind streams carrying material from 3I/ATLAS between late October and November 1. However, unlike Europa Clipper, Hera is not equipped with the scientific instruments capable of measuring any charged particles it encounters.

Even if astronomers miss out on this exciting opportunity, the Tailcatcher mission has already succeeded in predicting an ion tail crossing in 2020 that led to the ESA’s Solar Orbiter detecting particles from comet C/2019 Y4. While 3I/ATLAS will likely remain out of range of such spacecraft, Tailcatcher may be able to make additional predictions based on future visits by interstellar objects that visit our solar system.

Additionally, in 2029, the ESA’s Comet Interceptor will take its position in space to await future candidates that may include an interstellar object similar to 3I/ATLAS and its predecessors, which can be targeted for a close flyby that could obtain far more than just detections of ions pulled away from the object by the solar wind.

In the near term, the upcoming alignment between 3I/ATLAS and NASA’s Europa Clipper mission offers a tantalizing advance look at future discoveries astronomers hope to be able to look forward to in the coming years, at the very least.

Or, if NASA can resume operations in time—along with the rest of the U.S. federal government and its workforce—in the days ahead, Europa Clipper may be uniquely positioned for a chance to collect information about the faint chemical fingerprints of another world0

The interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, which is currently flying through our Solar System, continues to present astronomers with new mysteries. Initially, it was thought to be a typical icy comet. However, recent observations have revealed a surprising and rare anomaly—a so-called “anti-tail” pointing toward the Sun. This phenomenon challenges conventional wisdom about comet behavior and fuels scientific debate.

Mysterious “anti-tail”

Last August, the powerful Keck II telescope in Hawaii targeted 3I/ATLAS when it was 2.5 times farther away than the distance from Earth to the Sun. The data confirmed the presence of cyanide and nickel emissions. However, the strangest thing was that these emissions were produced not only in the usual direction away from the Sun, but also in the opposite direction, i.e., toward it.

Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb, who described the observations in detail, noted that the classic comet tail, formed by dust repelled by solar wind, was virtually invisible in the images taken in normal light. However, this mysterious “anti-tail” is clearly visible.

Nature or illusion?

Scientists offer several possible explanations for this phenomenon. 

1. Optical illusion. Due to the Earth’s unique position in its orbit, the comet’s wide dust tail can appear to “split” from our perspective, creating the impression of two structures diverging in different directions.
2. Large dust particles. The rapidly rotating nucleus of a comet can eject not only fine dust, but also larger, heavier debris. The solar wind easily repels fine dust, forming a normal tail. However, large particles remain in orbit around the nucleus, distributed both in front of and behind it. This trail of dust, directed toward the Sun, is perceived by us as an “anti-tail.”

As planetary astronomer Michael Bush explains, it doesn’t matter which side of the nucleus the ejection starts from. Small particles fly away from the Sun, while large ones remain in orbit, creating the appearance of two tails.

Object anomaly

For Avi Loeb, the 3I/ATLAS anti-tail remains an anomaly that requires attention. He wonders why experts continue to consider this object a normal comet, ignoring such strange behavior. Loeb even rated 3I/ATLAS at 4 out of 10 on his “Loeb Scale,” which measures the likelihood that an interstellar object could be the product of extraterrestrial technology. This assessment indicates the “increasingly abnormal characteristics” of the object.

Fortunately, science will have another chance to solve this mystery. Soon, 3I/ATLAS will return to Jupiter, providing a unique opportunity for NASA’s Juno and ESA’s Juice spacecraft to conduct closer observations. Perhaps they will provide the definitive answer to the question of the nature of this strange interstellar visitor.

Earth has a second MOON: NASA confirms new cosmic companion will be with us until 2083

It has been our constant celestial companion for the last 4.5 billion years.

But the moon is no longer the only cosmic body keeping Earth company, experts say.

NASA has confirmed the Earth now has two moons – at least until 2083.

Experts at the Pan–STARRS observatory in Hawaii first announced the presence of a 'quasi–moon', called '2025 PN7', last month.

They explained it is actually an asteroid that has been orbiting the Sun on a similar trajectory to our planet since the 1960s.

The tag–along is just 19 metres (62ft) wide and is the 'smallest and least stable' of the six quasi–moons that have had Earth–like orbits.

Unlike our moon, which can usually been seen with the naked eye, this rock is only visible through good telescopes.

And although it may appear to be orbiting Earth it is not gravitationally bound to our planet and will eventually drift away back into open space.

Scientists have been aware of quasi–satellites since 1991 when they first discovered '1991 VG' – which some believed to be an alien probe at the time.

'Over three decades later, it is now widely accepted that such objects are natural and constitute a secondary asteroid belt that occupies the region in which the Earth–moon system orbits around the sun,' researchers behind the newest discovery said.

While it may sound like this neighbour has been 'following' Earth for quite some time, it's relatively short compared to another famous quasi–moon, Kamo'oalewa, which has an Earth–related orbit lasting around 381 years.

Quasi–moons are part of a special category of space objects called Arjunas, that move in sync with our planet's journey around the sun.

2025 PN7 maintains a wide range of distances from Earth – anywhere between around 2.8 million miles (4.5 million km) and 37 million miles (59 million km).

These quasi–moons in Earth–like orbits are 'full of surprises' co–author Carlos de la Fuente Marcos, from the Complutense University of Madrid, said last month.

This new quasi–moon is 'small, faint and visibility windows from Earth are rather unfavourable, so it is not surprising that it went unnoticed for that long,' he explained.

The latest discovery was recently published in Research Notes of the AAS.

Alongside quasi–moons, the Earth is sometimes joined by 'minimoons' – objects that do orbit our planet but only temporarily.

Only four have ever been discovered, and none are still orbiting Earth.

Experts from The Planetary Society said: 'Quasi–moons and minimoons are pieces of our neighbourhood in space, and they carry information about where they come from. They might originate in the main asteroid belt, from impacts on the Moon, or from the break–up of larger objects on similar orbits — scientists don't know for sure.

'Answering that question, and finding out what these almost–moons are made of, can help researchers learn more about asteroids and how they threaten Earth.'

The phases of the moon

Like Earth, the Moon has a day side and a night side, which change as the Moon rotates. 

The Sun always illuminates half of the Moon while the other half remains dark, but how much we are able to see of that illuminated half changes as the Moon travels through its orbit.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the phases of the moon are:

1. New Moon

This is the invisible phase of the Moon, with the illuminated side of the Moon facing the Sun and the night side facing Earth.

2. Waxing crescent

This silver sliver of a Moon occurs when the illuminated half of the Moon faces mostly away from Earth, with only a tiny portion visible to us from our planet.

3. First Quarter 

The Moon is now a quarter of the way through its monthly journey and you see half of its illuminated side. 

4. Waxing Gibbous

Now most of the Moon's dayside has come into view, and the Moon appears brighter in the sky. 

5. Full Moon

This is as close as we come to seeing the Sun's illumination of the entire day side of the Moon.

6. Waning Gibbous

As the Moon begins its journey back toward the Sun, the opposite side of the Moon now reflects the Moon’s light. 

7. Last Quarter

The Moon looks like it’s half illuminated from the perspective of Earth, but really you’re seeing half of the half of the Moon that’s illuminated by the Sun ― or a quarter. 

8. Waning Crescent

The Moon is nearly back to the point in its orbit where its dayside directly faces the Sun, and all that we see from our perspective is a thin curve.

Scientists have discovered a giant granite body hidden beneath the West Antarctic Ice Sheet.

At 62 miles (100 km) wide and over four miles (seven km) thick, the massive rocky structure is roughly half the size of Wales.

Scientists from the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) say the enormous slab of granite is buried underneath the Pine Island Glacier and likely formed during the Jurassic period.  

However, finding the massive structure was only possible thanks to a handful of mysterious pink boulders scattered over the continent's frozen volcanic peaks.

The unusual boulders, perched on the high mountaintops, had baffled scientists for decades. 

Now, researchers have realised the rocks are actually tiny parts of the granite giant, dropped on top of mountains by glaciers in the distant past. 

Dr Tom Jordan, lead author and geophysicist at BAS, says: 'It's remarkable that pink granite boulders spotted on the surface have led us to a hidden giant beneath the ice.

'We've not only solved a mystery about where these rocks came from, but also uncovered new information about how the ice sheet flowed in the past and how it might change in the future.'

This granite body is hidden beneath the Pine Island Glacier (pictured) and is believed to be 62 miles (100 km) wide and over four miles (seven km) thick, making it roughly half the size of Wales.

When scientists first started finding pink granite boulders on the tops of the Hudson Mountains, it raised an obvious question: where were these rocks coming from?

'The pink granites we found in the Hudson Mountains were a total contrast with the underlying black basalts, meaning it was instantly clear that they had been transported from elsewhere,' says Dr Jordan.

By looking at the radioactive decay of minerals trapped within microscopic crystals, scientists discovered that they were formed around 175 million years ago.

That made them about 75 million years older than most of the rock in the western part of Antarctica.  

However, it was only when researchers started making aerial surveys of the region that the full picture started to emerge.

Flying aircraft over the Hudson Mountains, researchers from the BAS measured subtle changes in the Earth's gravitational field.

Dr Jordan explains: 'Gravity is the attraction between you and everything underneath your feet, so for example, if you stand on a slab of lead, there is more mass pulling you down than if you stand on a slab of wood.

'These variations are so tiny you can never feel them directly, but the very precise sensors we have on the survey aircraft can.'

Researchers from the British Antarctic Survey found the granite body by flying aircraft over the ice to measure subtle changes in the Earth's gravitational pull

By flying over the area in a grid pattern, the researchers were able to build a map of where dense and less dense rocks could be found.  

These gravitational surveys revealed an unusual geological signal coming from beneath the Pine Island Glacier, one that was consistent with buried granite.

Linking these findings to the mysterious granite boulders, the scientists had finally discovered where the rocks had come from.

In the distant past, when the ice sheet was much thicker, the Pine Island Glacier had plucked the boulders out from the rocky bed and deposited them on the tops of nearby mountains. 

Since the pink boulders were only found on half the mountains, this also shows that there were two distinct rivers of ice that transported material up into the mountains.  

Co-author Dr Joanne Johnson, a geologist for the BAS, says: 'Rocks provide an amazing record of how our planet has changed over time, especially how ice has eroded and altered the landscape of Antarctica. 

'Boulders like these are a treasure-trove of information about what lies deep beneath the ice sheet, far out of reach.'

However, beyond solving an interesting geological puzzle, this discovery could also have big consequences for understanding the continent's future.

By understanding the underlying geology of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, the researchers say they will be able to make better computer models of how continent's ice will move, melt, and impact global sea levels 

Understanding how ice flows have changed since the last ice age, around 20,000 years ago, helps scientists predict how the ice sheet will respond to climate change in the future.

Likewise, underlying geology is one of the biggest factors affecting how ice slides over the bed and how meltwater drains beneath it.

In the Pine Island Glacier, which has seen some of the fastest ice melt in Antarctica over the last few decades, the presence of a massive granite body will have a big impact on the region's future. 

The scientists hope that their discovery can be used to improve computer models of the ice flow that are used to project sea level increases. 

Dr Johnson says this finding gives scientists 'clues about how the West Antarctic Ice Sheet may change in future – information that is vital for determining the impact of sea level rise on coastal populations around the world.'

A swarm of UFOs was seen flying over an active volcano in Mexico this week, reviving a wild theory that the natural landmark could be an alien portal to space. 

A webcam pointed at Popocatépetl volcano unexpectedly captured what appeared to be multiple glowing objects streaking past the site near Mexico City on Monday.

In a time-lapse video that covered 30 minutes of surveillance, viewers could see dozens of small lights speeding by in all directions like shooting stars as Popocatépetl billowed with smoke.

The famed UFO hotspot has been a constant source of extraterrestrial speculation, with witnesses photographing strange objects appearing to fly into and around the volcano for decades.

While some on social media have dismissed the strange lights as insects in the camera's way, others pointed out that the objects could be seen flying behind the volcano's smoke clouds, arguing that proves they were much farther away.

However, Alejandro Rojas, an advisor at Enigma Labs, which analyzes reports of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), was not convinced the light swarm was an actual UFO sighting, noting that the nature of the video means everything caught on camera will seem strange.

'What looks to be moving swiftly is actually moving much more slowly. So, airplanes, satellites, or anything else coming into the frame will appear to be zipping past when they are not,' Rojas told the Daily Mail.

He added that those claiming it was just a trick of the light caused by insects may be right as well, explaining that webcams emit invisible infrared light at night, which often illuminates bugs and birds that fly close enough to the camera.

'You can see the stars in the background moving quickly, whereas their movement in relation to the Earth is not discernible to the naked eye,' Rojas continued.

'That means everything is moving much faster than its actual speed. I do not see anything in this video that is particularly anomalous that could not be explained,' the UFO investigator declared.

Despite skepticism that the light show over Popocatépetl was a fleet of alien craft, the sighting adds to a literal mountain of evidence that has been caught on camera at the volcano.

In 2023, Luis Guerra was in his backyard when he heard a blast from the volcano and looked up to see a saucer-shaped object hovering over the opening of Popocatépetl.

It's one of several reported UFO sightings when Popocatépetl was active, prompting UFO conspiracy theorists to claim extraterrestrials were studying Earth's geothermal activity to understand how it works.

However, noted UFO researcher Jaime Maussan has come up with an even more astounding theory of what's happening at Popocatépetl: aliens have been using the volcano as a 'wormhole' to a distant point in space.

According to Maussan, UFOs seen flying directly into the volcano have been entering an 'interdimensional portal' which could both leave our planet and serve as a doorway to return to Earth later.

The controversial journalist from Mexico cited years of webcam footage and photos showing glowing orbs and discs entering the crater, which would be too hot for any human technology to survive.

Backed by NASA's research on magnetic 'X-points' around Earth, Maussan's theory suggested the volcano's magnetic fields create a portal that allows UFOs to phase through space and time. 

There has been no confirmation of Maussan's claims about the Popocatépetl volcano.

The journalist has been tied to several debunked theories, including multiple incidents where Maussan claimed to have evidence of real UFO sightings, only for it to be debunked as a comet or star in the night sky.

Maussan has also claimed to have discovered physical evidence of mummified alien corpses on three separate occasions, but none of the incidents have been proven true.

'I have not seen anything that would lead me to believe there is something mysterious going on,' Rojas said regarding Maussan's wormhole claims.

'The Popocatépetl volcano is an exciting place, and it feels magical, but I don't think it is a portal to another world. The magic we see is the result of the standard mechanics of our amazing planet and its natural wonders,' he added.

Clear and startling images of what appears to be a UFO were captured over Los Angeles, sparking fresh debate about what's flying over America's biggest cities.

A pair of Los Angeles residents were on their balcony when they spotted a black, V-shaped craft covered in lights moving slowly over the city on August 28.

The sighting went on for roughly 25 minutes, with the UFO flying south until the witnesses eventually lost sight of it around 11:38pm local time (2:38am ET).

The pair was able to capture both pictures and clear videos with a cellphone camera, zooming in to see nine white lights along the UFO's hull.

UFO researcher and filmmaker Mark Christopher Lee told the Daily Mail he believes the craft was not an alien spaceship, adding it was likely an unmanned drone testing out new technology for the US government or some other world power.

However, Lee made one stunning claim based on his analysis of this sighting and several famous UFO incidents throughout the UK, suggesting that the US military has created technology many would think was still only science fiction in 2025.

'I'm convinced that a lot of famous UFO incidents are basically highly advanced terrestrial technology that is 30 to 40 years ahead of what we think they have,' Lee explained.

Regardless of where the craft came from, it's the latest report of a strange V-shaped craft, or chevron, flying over the US in recent months.

This UFO report was submitted to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) on August 30, a volunteer-operated nonprofit group that's been collecting UFO reports since 1974.

The latest sighting was the 34th chevron spotted throughout the country in 2025.

According to NUFORC, there have been several reports this year which specifically mention seeing a V-shaped wedge or triangle with multiple lights along its surface flying over the US.

'It stayed in the same area for about 25–30 minutes for the first time I saw it,' the witness in LA said in their report.

'It moved around a little bit but didn't go too far. At the end it just flew off in the south direction until I couldn't see it anymore,' they added.

The boomerang-shaped object also appeared to have a small body at its center, making it look similar to a F-117 stealth fighter.

However, that plane, built by the US Air Force, never had large lights on the outside of the craft.

'It's definitely not flares and is in my opinion a structured craft, most likely a top secret drone,' Lee declared.

Lee noted that he thought the witness's video was genuine, adding that the poor quality coming from the cellphone at that time of night rules out the use of AI and CGI special effects.

NUFORC added a one-word note as a possible explanation for the sighting, writing 'Ultralight?'

An ultralight refers to a type of small, lightweight aircraft, often just a motorized hang glider or powered parachute, that's popular among recreational flyers.

These are super basic machines, having a minimal frame, no heavy engine, and being generally quiet and slow-moving.

Los Angeles has a storied history with UFO sightings, going all the way back to the infamous 'Battle of Los Angeles' in 1942 when the US military shot at what they thought were could have been alien ships invading the West Coast.

Lee also noted the claims that Catalina Island, just off the California coast, could be the location of a secret underwater alien base.

Lee thinks LA isn't actually an alien hotspot, but a hotbed of activity by super-advanced human technology being launched from nearby facilities such as Vandenberg Space Force Base, Edwards Air Force Base, and the infamous Area 51.

Three Minneapolis police officers spotted a spherical Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) with six glowing rings that changed colors. 

The anonymous witnesses filed a report with Americans for Safe Aerospace, a non-profit led by former US Navy pilot and whistleblower Ryan Graves, saying they observed the object from a parking garage using binoculars.

According to the report, one officer drove toward the UAP in a squad car while the other two continued watching from the garage. 

The officers described the object as hovering at 10,000 feet, moving with both slow and hypersonic speeds, and generating lift without any sound.

Even more striking, the report described a near-proximity encounter between the UAP and a civilian helicopter. 

The observation took place in the vicinity of Minnesota's Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant, a detail that has raised eyebrows among UFO researchers, given the site's strategic significance. 

The incident occurred in February, but Graves shared the report on X on Monday. A similar sighting was recorded on July 7 in Anoka, about a mile from the witness. 

That UFO reportedly traveled along the Mississippi River at around 460mph, then abruptly slowed and silently descended behind nearby trees.

They were on patrol when they spotted the UAP hanging in the night sky. They said it was also near a nuclear facility in the area

While believers view the report as yet another sign of advanced unknown technology, skeptics argue the sighting likely has a conventional explanation, perhaps one already orbiting high above Earth.

Alejandro Rojas, an advisor at Enigma Labs, which analyzes reports of UAPs, told Daily Mail that the sighting may have been NASA's International Space Station (ISS).

'The ISS has flown over the area for the last few days and was very bright. What we see in the video could be the ISS, but we will need more details to rule it out,' he said.

'The video also doesn't look like 'six interlocking rings of colored lights.' A small point of light in the distance can appear to be multiple colors when it is not, due to the atmosphere between the witness and the object. 

'This is called scintillation and is the same thing that makes stars twinkle.'

Rojas added that on both February 19 and July 7, the ISS had several bright flyovers in the area.

Americans for Safe Aerospace advocates for transparency in UAP research and collects reports from credible witnesses, including military and law enforcement personnel. 

Graves posted on X that the platform has nearly 1000 reports, noting that more are set to be released.

However, some people have said that it was likely NASA's International Space Station that was shining brightly over the area

He is a former US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet pilot who became one of the first military aviators to speak publicly about routine UFO encounters during training missions off the East Coast.

Graves first drew national attention after revealing that Navy pilots regularly encountered unidentified craft off the US East Coast between 2014 and 2015, objects that appeared to defy known flight physics. 

These objects were detected both visually and on radar, appeared to hover against strong winds, and could accelerate instantly without visible propulsion.

In one incident, a pilot nearly collided with a cube-shaped object encased in a clear sphere. 

Graves later said the encounters were so frequent they became part of pre-flight safety briefings. 

He later testified before Congress about the risks these unidentified objects pose to flight safety.

Graves said the incidents were so common that pilots began discussing them as part of pre-flight safety briefings. He emphasized that whatever these craft are, advanced foreign tech or something else, they represent a serious aviation safety concern.

Blijkbaar zullen mensen in 2026 in nog grotere mate hun baan verliezen, aangezien AI-technologie belangrijke sectoren begint te veroveren en te domineren. En dit kan zelfs gelden voor technologie die verder gaat dan eenvoudige AI.

Te midden van chaos eindigen de verzen van Nostradamus niet in wanhoop, maar in vernieuwing. Hij schreef: "Schaduwen zullen vallen, maar de man van het licht zal opstaan, en de sterren zullen hen leiden die naar binnen kijken."

Is there life beyond the stars? This is one of those questions that have existed for centuries, and intrigued societies and great thinkers from the dawn of civilization. “Surely there is someone else out there in the distance,” they thought, and spoke in hushed tones about the mysteries that they could not explain. And so, generation by generation, century by century, the myths of the aliens remained, until a quite peculiar theory was born - the theory of the ancient aliens. Its adherents claim that extraterrestrial beings do exist, and that they visited our planet at the dawn of mankind, influencing its development and creating many ancient relics whose provenance cannot be explained today. These enduring mysteries are a dividing wedge between the scientific world and those who believe in something beyond the stars. But at the end of the day, is there truth to these beliefs?

Ancient Aliens or Ancient Artisans?

The theory of ancient aliens remains quite popular, even in our modern age when we think we have answers for many things around us. Ancient alien theorists claim that there is ample evidence of extraterrestrial visitations, scattered throughout human history. They point out mysterious artifacts, stunning architectural wonders, and traditional myths that - in their view - cannot be explained by the capabilities of ancient societies and civilizations.

But there are many who oppose these ideas, always siding with mainstream society, urging people to observe things from an empirical point of view - if there isn’t sufficient evidence to support it, the theory should be disregarded.

And then there are those who go to the extremes, claiming that we are a freak of nature, and are the only living beings in the universe, and that the places beyond the stars are simply barren.

And so the war of views continues. It has been going on for many decades now. The ancient aliens theory and the concept of extraterrestrials visiting ancient peoples gained major popularity in the 1960s and 1970s. Controversial authors such as Erich von Däniken popularized the idea during this decade. Däniken’s best-selling book, “Chariots of the Gods?”, published in 1968, became a major hit and the theory quickly gained many adherents. The author proposed that many of the world’s best-known wonders are linked to extraterrestrial visitations, such as the enormous Naza Lines in Peru, the Great Pyramids in Egypt, the Stonehenge in England, and many others. Without direct proof that they were built by humans - and without an explanation how they would do it in the first place - Däniken quickly pinned them on the aliens.

Following the release of this book, the ancient alien theory gained momentum. Further books, such as “Gods from Outer Space” and “The Gods Were Astronauts”, as well as a number of documentaries, movies, and popular series all gave their own distinct views on these theories. In time, the theory incorporated claims that not only great structures were alien-made, but also religions, mythologies, and many innovations in history. And most of all, the theory posits that the Gods of ancient civilizations were actually alien beings, misinterpreted as deities by the primitive humans. And so came to be the theory of ancient aliens.

But can it be proven?

Is There Evidence of Ancient Aliens?

Those who staunchly believe that our distant ancestors came face-to-face with beings from outer space often point to what they consider compelling evidence that this is, in fact, true. However, this evidence is often based on the interpretation of texts, ancient artifacts, and major architectural feats. One evidence that they offer is the collection of Nazca Lines in Peru. These enormous geoglyphs, situated in the deserts of southern Peru, can only be seen from a great height. Those believing in ancient aliens claim that these lines were created as “landing strips” or messages for extraterrestrial visitors, exactly because they can only be seen from the air. Could the ancient Nazca people have observed spacecraft high above them, leaving these drawings as a message?

And, of course, the unexplained architectural marvels are always offered as clear evidence of alien visitation. For example, the site of Puma Punku in Bolivia is always mentioned. It is made of enormous stone blocks, some of which weigh well over 100 tons, all of which were carved with incredible precision and fitted precisely without the use of mortar. How was such precision achieved? These theorists say that the stones could not be carved like that, not without the use of very advanced machinery and technology, which could have only arrived from beyond the stars.

Without a doubt, the myths of the Anunnaki are the most frequently offered evidence of extraterrestrial ancients. These ancient Sumerian texts speak of the so-called Anunnaki, a group of deities described as arriving on Earth to create humanity. Ancient alien theorists propose that this is the unopposable evidence that extraterrestrials genetically engineered humans for their own purposes and pushed forward the formation of the world’s first civilizations.

The same goes for the Great Pyramids of Giza, which are usually the first to pop-up in talks of ancient aliens. The sheer size, perfect alignment with the cardinal directions, and incredible precision with which it was made and aligned with the celestial bodies, could have only been achieved with extraterrestrial assistance.

Science v. Belief: Who Wins?

The ancient alien theory became a proper trend in the recent years, but even so modern science continues to adamantly discredit it, unconvinced. Most scholars simply dismiss these claims, pointing out that they were built upon misinterpretation of evidence, misunderstanding, and underestimating our ancestors. A key counter argument to these theories is simply human ingenuity and ability. Archaeologists have long pointed out that our ancestors were not as primitive or clueless as we might think, and when presented with ample time and workforce, they could have achieved some truly stunning achievements. Are we simply underestimating them?

Many engineers and archaeologists stepped forward and demonstrated the construction techniques that were used to build many ancient structures, such as Stonehenge or megaliths. They all agree that such structures were well within the capabilities of ancient societies. Even though they used rudimentary materials and tools, they were still capable of organizing a massive workforce for their projects and coming up with innovative methods that would make their work easier and feasible.

Scholars also try to provide a logical interpretation and explanation of the texts and myths that are commonly seen as connected to aliens. For example, they argue that many of the ancient religious and mythical texts are symbolic or metaphorical, and not literal descriptions of events. And many of the similarities that are shared amongst ancient cultures, such as their ideas, myths, beliefs, gods, and art, are not necessarily explained by extraterrestrial meddling. Instead, we can safely conclude that they were spread through cultural diffusion, through migration, trade, and conquest. There is also the independent invention of the same thing - in completely different cultures. This explains the appearance of pyramids in many ancient civilizations: this is a common architectural form that advanced cultures could have “invented” without anyone’s intervention.

Skepticism and Inquiry

To those who teeter at the edge, not knowing what to believe at the end of the day, it is crucial to offer advice. Sure, the idea of ancient alien visitors and superior high-tech innovations in the neolithic is definitely captivating. But it should still be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism. After all, such extraordinary claims require equally extraordinary evidence. However, much of the evidence that ancient alien theorists provide is rooted in speculation, conjecture, assumption, or free interpretation. And it always ends on the note that our ancestors were simply incapable of achieving any great feats, even when presented with ample time and many laborers.

But it is important to note that science bases everything on evidence - and truth is its only driving force. Repeatedly it has proven many things from our history and given explanations for many things that we previously had no knowledge on. From the secrets of the universe to the relics of our past, science seemingly pierced every mystery. But some evidence simply does not exist, even in the scientific world. And that is the evidence that extraterrestrials exist, and that they visited planet Earth in the past.

In the ongoing clash between the scientific world and the adherents of the ancient alien theory, the former always urges the latter to view our ancestors in a different light. To give credit where credit is due, and to understand that ancient humans were great thinkers, and observed the nature around them in a logical and innovative way, which allowed them to come up with many great inventions and creations. The Baghdad battery, the Antikythera mechanism, the hydraulics, navigation, sailing - the list of ancient achievements is never-ending, and the idea of extraterrestrial involvement is completely unnecessary in any of them. That is simply because those that came before us were not so feeble after all.

The Masters of Past and Future Earth

When there is something which we cannot explain, we cannot understand, or cannot comprehend at all, we often reach for the stars to find the answers, as if all the truth of the world lies in that distant space. And yet, the answers never come - only speculation, only daydreams, and only imagination. The scientific world fires back with its factual data, the sheer evidence, and the unearthed, tangible history. In it, there are never extraterrestrials. There are only the achievements of mankind, fueled by natural knowledge gathered for hundreds of thousands of years before the emergence of the first civilizations.

Yet even so, there are those things from history that not even science can confirm or explain. There are those creations that defy all sense of reason and logic, leaving us neither amongst the stars nor on the hard ground - but somewhere in between. Where, then, do we search for answers, if not in the great beyond?

Now this is interesting. Not only did I find a face on Mars, but is of an alien species that I have never encountered before...I have found thousands of faces and yet...never this type of species. It's sitting upright so that it can look out over the land from the hillside. It has an extended forehead...with extends out to the back of the head in a sharp bumpy triangle. The ridges above the eyes are thick and primitive looking. Its ears are gills or small fins. ITs nose is very small like cats, its mouth has no lips and it has a long chin. This creature which once lived on Mars was...aquatic.

The Grays and the CIA’s hidden time travel program

New evidence and declassified CIA files suggest that the Grays, the mysterious gray aliens seen in UFO encounters, may not be extraterrestrials at all, but future humans traveling back in time to prevent their own extinction. 

After the death of genius inventor Nikola Tesla in 1943, U.S. agents seized his private papers. Rumor has it that inside those files were detailed notes on space-time manipulation, blueprints for technology far beyond its era. 

Not long after, both the CIA and DARPA quietly began experiments in what they called “quantum displacement.” These classified efforts eventually became known as Project Pegasus, a covert government program exploring teleportation and time travel. 

Whistleblower Andrew Basiago, a former participant, claims that during the 1970s he was part of these top-secret trials. According to Basiago, the CIA used “chronovisors”, holographic portals capable of sending people through time. Even more extraordinary, he alleges the agency made contact with human beings (Grays) from the future during these experiments. 

The shocking theory is that the Grays are us. 

Many believe they could be the evolutionary result of humanity’s distant future, a time when we’ve advanced technologically, but lost our emotions, creativity, and ability to reproduce. 

In this theory, the Grays are not invaders, they’re biologists and geneticists from the future, traveling back to collect human DNA. Their goal? To fix the genetic decline that threatens their existence. 

That would explain why so many alleged abduction cases revolve around medical procedures, reproductive samples, and hybrid programs. They’re not attacking us, they’re trying to save themselves. 

Leaked CIA files mention “non-terrestrial biological entities”, yet curiously never call them extraterrestrials. Some insiders suggest that’s because they were classified as “temporally displaced humanoids”, meaning, humans out of time. 

If these beings are indeed our descendants, their presence could be a desperate cry for help. They may be returning to warn us of the path we’re on, a future of ecological collapse, over-reliance on artificial intelligence, and genetic decay that strips away what makes us human. 

Maybe the Grays’ emotionless appearance isn’t alien… it’s a mirror of what we become if we don’t change course. 

For decades, governments have hidden the truth behind UFOs. But what if those strange craft aren’t from another world, they’re time machines from our own? 

If the CIA really did experiment with time travel through Project Pegasus, and if the Grays truly are future humans, then the question isn’t 'Where are the aliens? It’s 'What have we become?' 

Perhaps every UFO sighting, every abduction, and every cover-up isn’t about extraterrestrials at all but about humanity’s struggle to save its own future. 

The “Grays are Future Humans” theory may sound unbelievable, but so did time travel, teleportation, and quantum physics once. 

If these beings truly are our descendants, then their message is clear: The future isn’t set in stone. It’s still ours to change. 

The truth isn’t “out there” — It’s ahead of us.

The Cortex

The cerebral cortex maps what the brain perceives in space. When we focus on our surroundings, theta-frequency waves sweep across them, searching for visual anomalies that might demand attention. Using animal subjects, the researchers sought to understand why performance in visual working memory tasks varies and why memory capacity appears limited.

Their work builds on previous studies identifying theta waves as being strongly correlated with attention—particularly during tasks requiring the brain to track multiple points at once. Miller’s earlier research supported the theory that different brainwave frequencies act as carriers for distinct forms of neural computation. The new study takes this a step further, revealing how those traveling waves may actively drive such computations.

“It shows that waves impact performance as they sweep across the surface of the cortex,” said Professor Miller, also of MIT’s Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. “This raises the possibility that traveling waves are organizing, or even performing, neural computation.”

Brainwaves and Video Games

For their experiments, the team trained animals to play a simple video game: an array of colored squares appeared briefly on-screen, followed by a second array in which one square had changed color. The animals’ task was to look at the altered square as quickly as possible. Researchers tracked their eye movements and reaction times while recording brainwave activity in the frontal eye fields—a region of the cortex responsible for mapping visual information from the retina.

After analyzing hundreds of trials, the researchers found that both theta brainwave activity and the vertical location of the changed square were strongly correlated with how accurately and quickly the animals detected changes. Certain horizontal bands of the cortex appeared tuned to specific theta frequencies, meaning that a subject’s performance depended on whether the brain’s internal rhythm aligned with the position of the visual change.

“The optimal theta phase for behavior varied by retinotopic target location, progressing from the top to the bottom of the visual field,” the researchers wrote in Neuron. “This could be explained by a traveling wave of activity across the cortical surface during the memory delay.”

Continuing to Understand Visual Scanning

From this data, the team concluded that the brain’s ability to spot visual changes follows a distinct rhythm. The closer a visual change occurred to a band’s optimal theta phase, the faster it was recognized. The team says continued research will be needed to understand how this rhythmic mechanism evolved.

Scientist issues chilling warning as interstellar visitor slips behind the sun TOMORROW

A Harvard scientist tracking the interstellar visitor in our solar system has issued a warning about its move behind the sun on Tuesday.

The object, dubbed 3I/ATLAS, will be exactly on the opposite side of the sun relative to Earth, constituting a so-called `solar-conjunction,' tomorrow, which Avi Loeb said would be 'an opportune time for technological action.'

Loeb explained that in space travel, the best time to speed up or slow down a spacecraft is when it's closest to a large object, since firing the engine at that point, known as the Oberth effect, gives the biggest change in speed.

'If 3I/ATLAS is a massive mothership, it will likely continue along its original gravitational path and ultimately exit the Solar system,' the professor shared in a Sunday blog post.

'In that case, the Oberth maneuver might apply to the mini-probes it releases at perihelion towards Solar system planets.'

3I/ATLAS will reach its best window for such Oberth maneuvers just eight days after it slips behind the sun, which will  put it the closest to the sun at about 126 million miles away, he added.

While Loeb has floated the idea that 3I/ATLAS could be of extraterrestrial origin, NASA has long maintained that the object is simply a comet from a distant galaxy. 

However, that conclusion has not stopped Loeb from calling for more data before the case is closed.

'As of now, 3I/ATLAS appears most likely to be a natural comet,' Loeb shared on hist Medium post.

'But the remote possibility of an Oberth maneuver must be considered seriously as a black swan event with a small probability, because of its huge implications for humanity.'

The professor added that he has identified several anomalies that have suggested the object could be of alien origin. 

The trajectory of 3I/ATLAS is aligned within five degrees of the ecliptic plane, which is the same plane in which the planets orbit the sun, he shared.

Unlike typical comets, it displayed a sunward jet, or anti-tail, that is not a mere optical illusion caused by viewing angle. 

This stream of gas and dust is unusual because comet tails are typically pushed away from the sun by solar radiation and wind. 

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope observed a similar phenomenon, capturing an extended glow aimed sunward in late July.

Loeb explained that the glow stretched roughly ten times longer than it was wide, forming what he described as the geometry of a jet directed at the sun, a pattern unlike any known comet.

The object is also far more massive than previous interstellar visitors, measuring about a million times heavier than 1I/'Oumuamua and a thousand times heavier than 2I/Borisov, while moving even faster than both, he explained.

Loeb also highlighted 3I/ATALS' arrival timing, allowing it to pass within tens of millions of miles of Mars, Venus and Jupiter, yet remain unobservable from Earth at perihelion. 

Spectral data further showed that the gas plume surrounding 3I/ATLAS contains much more nickel than iron, similar to industrially produced nickel alloys, with a nickel-to-cyanide ratio far exceeding that of any known comet. 

Loeb noted that it also contains only four percent water by mass, a striking contrast to the water-rich makeup of ordinary comets. 

Adding to the mystery, 3I/ATLAS exhibits extreme negative polarization, a property never before seen in any comet, and it entered the solar system from a direction within nine degrees of the famous 'Wow! Signal' detected by radio astronomers. 

'Gladly, we expect to get data on 3I/ATLAS shortly after perihelion. On November 4, 2025, ESA’s Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (Juice) will pass within 40 million miles of 3I/ATLAS,' Loeb said.

'If 3I/ATLAS maintains a trajectory shaped by gravity alone, it will come closest to Earth on December 19, 2025, at a distance of 167 million miles.

'On March 16, 2026, 3I/ATLAS will pass within 34 million miles of Jupiter and be observable to sensors in the UV, infrared, and radio bands onboard the Juno spacecraft.'

Living Nostradamus issues doomsday warning about 'the global order'

A psychic has issued a warning about a shocking shift in global dominance following an 'unprecedented' military meeting held in the US this week. 

Athos Salomé, 39, from Brazil, who is known as the 'Living Nostradamus,' earned his title after he accurately predicted dozens of world events. 

Those included the Microsoft global outage, the coronavirus pandemic and Queen Elizabeth II's death. 

Salomé told the Daily Mail US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth's gathering of around 800 of America's highest-ranking military officers on Tuesday 'revealed an imminent crisis or strategic urgency.' 

Hegseth called the meeting last week, requiring high-ranking admirals and generals in the US and worldwide to attend at the Quantico base in Virginia, where he fired a direct message to America's generals: 'No more DEI, dudes in dresses, or gender delusion .... prepare for war.' 

'This meeting could result in new alliances, unexpected cuts or even changes in the global order,' Salomé said. 

'The next three months will be decisive in understanding whether we are facing merely an administrative reorganization or preparation for a much broader geopolitical transformation.' 

He also suggested that the meeting was not routine, but 'a test of collective loyalty.' 

Athos Salomé warned that the Pentagon is waiting for the right moment to act, and so officials are promoting a series of changes, including the emergency meeting called for this purpose

Hegseth said that there would be a male standard of fitness for all troops, stating that he was 'tired of seeing fat troops.' He also said these new rules are 'not about preventing women from serving.'

But he added that the physical standards needed to be gender neutral.

'If women can make it, excellent, if they cannot, then so be it ... it will also mean that weak men won't qualify. This is combat.'

The Secretary of War said standard training guidelines will be restored 'to what they should be — scary, tough disciplined,' and one where drill sergeants 'can put their hands on recruits.'

Hegseth slammed the political softening of the armed forces, including concerns over bullying and hazing, and wokeness.

'This event marks a historic turning point: it is not just a meeting, it is a test of obedience,' Salomé warned.

'Those who fall in line will remain; those who resist may fall. This means that the civil authorities are seeking to redefine the military chain of command, creating a new pact of loyalty.'

The location of the meeting also appeared as a warning, as 'Quantico is no ordinary address,' Salomé said.

'It's a base associated with special operations and intelligence, quite different from the traditional spaces where meetings of this size take place,' he added.

'This points to a sensitive topic, possibly linked to cybersecurity or the development of next-generation weapons. 

The psychic also revealed key developments he foresaw following the meeting, including a mass purge in the Pentagon. 

'After the meeting, there will be forced retirements, silent dismissals, and strategic replacements. It will be the largest purge of officers since World War II,' Salomé said.

He also believes a major shift is coming to the US, which will be less global presence in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and a focus on domestic defense, borders, and the Western Hemisphere.

'It is the transformation of America into a continental fortress,' he warned. 

However, the attendance of President Donald Trump at the event was 'the most symbolic gesture.'

'Trump in front of hundreds of generals. It's not just a speech. It's the construction of an image of absolute power over the Pentagon,' Salomé explained, adding that Hegseth was not seeking practicality, but visual impact.

'It is the first public rehearsal of collective submission by the military elite,' he added.

'The audiovisual recording will be proof of institutional loyalty to the government. This is the unprecedented element.'

The implications are significant, as internally, there is a risk of a civil–military rupture, with officers split between those who accept the new direction and those who resist quietly, he explained.

Externally, allies may fear the abandonment of international commitments, while rivals could interpret the move either as weakness or as a sign of internal hardening. 

Politically, Trump and Hegseth are reinforcing their authority and promoting a narrative of discipline and cohesion, but this also fuels accusations of militarization and the cultivation of personal loyalty.

According to Salomé, the coming months may bring discreet purges and the symbolic use of images from the meeting, along with the announcement of command mergers and a new National Defence Strategy. 

These steps would likely consolidate an aligned military elite while imposing tighter restrictions on transparency at the Pentagon.

As 2025 draws near, the writings of Nostradamus continue to captivate, and unsettle, those who study them.

Perhaps the most chilling theme in his quatrains is the specter of war, as one passage, referencing Mars ruling among the stars and sanctuaries stained with blood, has been linked by modern interpreters to the possibility of World War III.

Surveys from the Atlantic Council and RAND Corporation estimate up to a 30 percent risk of major global conflict by 2026. 

Rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait, the ongoing war in Ukraine, and friction between NATO and Russia feed this narrative.

Nostradamus wrote: 'When Mars rules his path among the stars, human blood will sprinkle the sanctuary. 

'Three fires rise from the eastern sides, while the West loses its light in silence.'

These lines have been linked to emerging powers in the East, while the West 'losing its light in silence' is interpreted as a decline in Western influence and stability.

The French astrologer also foresaw new wars, plagues, and a cosmic fireball falling from the sky, what some believe could be an asteroid or atomic bomb.

The 'three fires' rising from the East are often interpreted as conflicts or the emergence of powerful nations in Asia, while the West's fading light indicates weakening influence or power.

Trained as a physician, he gained experience treating plague victims, which earned him a reputation for medical knowledge. 

Later, he became known for astrology, divination and prophetic writings, most notably Les Prophéties, first published in 1555.

Les Prophéties is a collection of 942 poetic quatrains, written in a cryptic, allegorical style, covering war, natural disasters, political upheavals and societal changes.

Nostradamus is often cited for having 'predicted' major historical events, including the rise of Adolf Hitler, the French Revolution, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy, though these interpretations are largely retrospective.

His writings have also been read as foreseeing a cosmic threat: 'From the cosmos, a fireball will rise, a harbinger of fate, the world pleads. 

'Science and fate in a cosmic dance, the fate of the Earth, a second chance.' 

Some interpret this as an asteroid or comet, while others suggest it could refer to an atomic bomb, the ultimate intersection of science and destiny.

He predicted that resources would run dry, a scenario eerily reflected in Ukraine's current situation, PennLive reported.

'Through long war all the army exhausted, so that they do not find money for the soldiers; instead of gold or silver, they will come to coin leather, Gallic brass, and the crescent sign of the Moon,' he wrote.

This year, reports confirmed that soldiers in ongoing conflicts are increasingly drained, making Nostradamus' vision of depleted resources eerily resonant.

After relying heavily on US aid since the war began, recent reductions have forced European allies to fill the gap, placing even greater strain on an already stretched coalition.

Nostradamus also foresaw that as one war ends, another could erupt in England, accompanied by a deadly plague: 'The kingdom will be marked by wars so cruel, foes within and without will arise. 

'A great pestilence from the past returns, no enemy more deadly under the skies.' 

Some interpret this as fallout from Brexit or potential conflict over the monarchy.

He even anticipated climate-related disasters in Brazil, home to the Amazon rainforest: 'Garden of the world near the new city, in the path of the hollow mountains: it will be seized and plunged into the Tub, forced to drink waters poisoned by sulfur.'

Another recurring motif is the rise of a 'mysterious leader' who may establish an 'aquatic empire,' possibly symbolizing shifting alliances or new centers of power in strategic maritime regions, especially relevant in today's unpredictable global landscape.
