Dit is ons nieuw hondje Kira, een kruising van een waterhond en een Podenko. Ze is sinds 7 februari 2024 bij ons en druk bezig ons hart te veroveren. Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.
This is our new dog Kira, a cross between a water dog and a Podenko. She has been with us since February 7, 2024 and is busy winning our hearts. She is a sweet, affectionate dog who quickly adapted to us within a week. She is very quick and curious, a very different dog than Noleke.

Astronomers have detected yet another extraterrestrial signal coming from outer Space
The nature of the radio bursts is still unclear, but there are two hypotheses.
Australian Astronomers have managed to pick up yet another set of fast radio bursts thanks to the Microvariability and Oscillations of Stars telescope, better known simply as MOST. Deputy director of the Center for Astrophysics and Supercomputing of Swinburne University of Technology, Matthew Bailes wrote on Facebook about the new fast radio burst which remains a mystery. From 2007 until today, 17 of these anomalous radio signals have been discovered by astronomers who remain perplexed by the origin of the signals. Each one of the FRBs (Fast radio bursts) comes from space lasting a few milliseconds at most, but emitting as much energy as our sun does in 10,000 years.
While ‘Alien civilizations’ are among the favorite explications of the mysterious radio signals among many, scientists have no idea what causes these mysterious bursts. In order to establish their exact origin, scientists had to estimate the distance to the ‘object’ where the FRBs originated from, which was achieved not long ago. While researchers still have no idea what causes the mysterious phenomenon, they hope that future studies will allow them to understand the nature behind the FRBs.
At the moment, there are two theories. According to the first, the radio burst has an extragalactic source and comes from a blitzar, a massive neutron star whose rotation speed prevents it from becoming a black hole. The second hypothesis states that the radio burst have a galactic origin. In particular, among the possible sources are magnetars, which are neutron stars with a strong magnetic field.
However, these radio signals have become more frequent throughout the years. Not long ago, the Parkes radio Telescope in Australia detected five radio bursts that could potentially indicate intelligent life elsewhere in the cosmos. According to reports from arXiv.org, an unprecedented double burst has recently shown up together with four more of the anomalous flashes. According to statements from the team of scientists, the double burst FRB (called 121002) discovered last year, had a “clear two-component profile”. Interestingly, the five signals detected follow the same pattern as its predecessors with one SMALL exception: one of them flashed twice, this little fact is extremely important since there has never, until now, been a double blast.
The twin-blast signal was separated by 2.4 milliseconds coming out of some sort of ‘eruption’ that happened, according to studies, 9 BILLION years ago in the Constellation Octans.
Last year, Michael Hippke of Germany’s Institute for Data Analysis set out to measure 11 radio bursts finding something extremely odd: The dispersion measures seem to follow a mathematical pattern. Hippke found that he dispersion measures are integer multiples of the same number, 187.5. The team calculated a 5 in 10,000 chance of the pattern being pure coincidence.
What is even more odd is the fact that NO ASTROPHYSICAL SYSTEMS that we know of can produce a similar stepwise distribution of dispersion measures.

Humans Come From Another Place in the Universe, Expert Determines
The idea of humanity evolving elsewhere in the universe and migrating to Earth and different corners of the galaxy in spaceships may be a reality after all. Are we the aliens on this planet? If so, where do we really come from?
Dr. Ellis Silver, a leading ecologist and environmentalist has gathered certain evidence pointing towards the hypothesis of humans originating from another place in the universe. In his book “Humans are not from Earth: a scientific evaluation of the evidence,” he describes 17 ideas why humans are not from earth and also reveals information about the place of origin and an alternative human timeline.
An interesting aspect highlighted by Dr. Ellis Silver is the unique psychology of human beings which suggests that we were designed elsewhere in the cosmos, most likely on a planet with low gravity.
“Mankind is supposedly the most highly developed species on the planet, yet is surprisingly unsuited and ill-equipped for Earth’s environment: harmed by sunlight, a strong dislike for naturally occurring foods, ridiculously high rates of chronic disease, and more, “Dr. Silver told Yahoo news.
“The Earth approximately meets our needs as a species, but perhaps not as strongly as whoever brought us here initially thought. Lizards can sunbathe for as long as they like – and many of them do.”
Do we really come from another star system or planet?
”We are dazzled by the sun, which is also odd, most animals are not.”
Other facts from the book speak about how chronic illnesses that trouble the human race, such as bad backs, may prove we developed on a world with low gravity. The doctor also considers the fact that humans have an extra 223 genes, according to a study published by Dr. Francis Crick.
According to a paper from bibliotecapleyades, “Collaborative research from a gathering of exo-scientists postulate that there are genes from over 20 extraterrestrial civilizations in human DNA. These exo-scientists have continued the work of Nobel Prize winner Dr. Frances Crick, and other scholars in this area. Current findings are consistent with reports of Professor Sam Chang, who discreetly released information on his own apparent findings, in association with the Human Genome Project.”
Dr. Silver considers the human race has some odd traits which are clearly out of this world. According to him, the human body can’t find the perfect conditions to function flawless.
“We are all chronically ill,” says Dr. Silver. “Indeed, if you can find a single person who is 100% fit and healthy and not suffering from some (perhaps hidden or unstated) condition or disorder (there’s an extensive list in the book) I would be extremely surprised – I have not been able to find anyone.”
Other interesting ideas from the book
“I believe that many of our problems stem from the simple fact that our internal body clocks have evolved to expect a 25 hour day (this has been proven by sleep researchers), but the Earth’s day is only 24 hours. This is not a modern condition – the same factors can be traced all the way back through mankind’s history on Earth.”
At the opposite pole lies another theory of Doctor Silva, suggesting that if we didn’t reach the Earth in spaceships, then early humans could have been crossbred with another species creating modern humans. The most probable star system from where humans could have arrived is Alpha Centaury, the closest system to our own.
“Mankind is supposedly the most highly developed species on the planet, yet is surprisingly unsuited and ill-equipped for Earth’s environment: harmed by sunlight, a strong dislike for naturally occurring (raw) foods, ridiculously high rates of chronic disease, and more. Plus there’s a prevailing feeling among many people that they don’t belong here or that something “just isn’t right.”
“This suggests (to me at least) that mankind may have evolved on a different planet, and we may have been brought here as a highly developed species.”
Another interesting idea from the book sees the Earth as a prison planet, where a naturally violent species such as ours is condemned to live until it learns to behave. However, Dr. Silver advices his readers to treat the topics discussed in the book lightly since he embraces various possibilities in life, and there are countless possibilities.
“Humans are not from Earth” was published mainly to gauge reaction from readers and to provoke thought, particularly among those who might not have considered such a possibility before.”
The book is sure to rise some question marks. It offers an interesting perspective over things and encourages everybody to research on their own until eventually finding the truth. He also encourages readers to send all relevant opinions to further analyze them.

Miljoenen toeristen hebben er gestaan. Duizenden wetenschappers deden er onderzoek. Elk detail in de grafkamer van Toetanchamon, de grootste archeologische vondst uit de geschiedenis, onderzochten ze minutieus. Maar een meter verderop, aan de andere kant van een beschilderde muur, lag al die jaren een misschien nog wel grotere schat: twee verborgen kamers met nog onbekende inhoud. 3300 jaar lang bleef hun bestaan een geheim. Tot nu.
"Het is buitengewoon, een geweldige vondst,'' zegt archeoloog Jorrit Kelder, verbonden aan de Universiteit Leiden. "Een ruimte waar 3 millennia lang geen mens is geweest, terwijl de hele wereld er langsliep. Een tijdcapsule, misschien wel vol schatten en geheimen. Wetenschappers blijven meestal rustig, maar dit is bijzonder opwindend.''
Scepsis Zo groot als de opwinding nu is, zo groot was de scepsis een halfjaar geleden, toen de Britse onderzoeker Nicholas Reeves zijn ontdekking bekendmaakte. Reeves, een freelance onderzoeker, roept wel vaker iets. De vondst werd nog eens opgepompt door de Egyptische overheid, die het toerisme ziet instorten en op zoek is naar verhalen om weer wat buitenlanders naar het Dal der Koningen te lokken.
"Eerlijk is eerlijk: Reeves heeft ons allemaal verrast,'' zegt Olaf Kaper, hoogleraar egyptologie aan de Universiteit Leiden. Want uitvoerige scans van de ruimte toonden aan dat achter de beschilderde muren van de grafkamer wel degelijk twee verborgen ruimtes bestaan. Die ons misschien wel veel meer gaan vertellen over Toetanchamon, de legendarische kindfarao die al op zijn 19de overleed. Kaper: "Zijn koningskronen zijn nooit gevonden, over zijn familie is weinig bekend. We weten niet eens wie zijn moeder was. Wie weet wat we nu meer over hem gaan leren.''
Ontdekker Reeves gaat inmiddels nog verder: hij is ervan overtuigd dat de verborgen ruimtes het graf zijn van koningin Nefertiti, de beroemde stiefmoeder van Toetanchamon, wier grafkamer nooit is gevonden. Wishful thinking, zegt Kaper. "Reeves is geobsedeerd door Nefertiti, hij schiet door. Maar goed: zonder hem waren deze kamers misschien wel nooit gevonden.''
Wat we dan wél gaan vinden? De eerste scans van de ruimte duidden op metaal en organisch materiaal. Dat kunnen gouden maskers zijn, maar ook een beitel en een dode vleermuis. Kelder: "De ruimte is 3300 jaar geleden verzegeld, en dat was vast niet voor niets. We mogen er echt op hopen dat we hele bijzondere dingen gaan vinden.''
Behoedzaam Daar zullen we in elk geval nog even geduld voor moeten hebben. Want het openen van de kamers zal met de grootste voorzichtigheid moeten worden uitgevoerd. Al is er angst dat Egypte, wanhopig op zoek naar goed nieuws, te snel gaat: dat Egyptische onderzoekers binnenkort al de ruimtes binnenvallen, zonder goede voorbereiding.
"Ik ben er niet bang voor,'' zegt Kaper. "De huidige minister van Cultuur gaat behoedzaam te werk. Ik denk eerlijk gezegd dat ze het ook wel mooi vinden, die kleine stapjes: het levert elke keer weer nieuws op. Vandaag zal de hele wereld horen wat voor ruimtes er precies zijn. Dat wordt een persconferentie die elke tv-zender in de wereld gaat halen. En over een tijdje horen we dan weer de eerste feiten over wat er ligt. Een betere pr-campagne voor Egypte kan ik niet bedenken.''
A Virginia witness at Norfolk reports a possible alien abduction after experiencing lost time and personal items that were moved, according to testimony in Case 75365 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness was in her bedroom at 1:47 a.m. on March 3, 2016, preparing to go to sleep, when the incident began.
“I know the exact time because I told myself that I was still going to be able to get up early despite the time,” the witness stated.“I was sitting on my bed, then the next thing I know I am walking from my kitchen to the bathroom. I remember thinking to myself, ‘Why was I in the kitchen?’ I didn’t have food or anything in my hands.”
Events continued to be out of the ordinary.
“On the way down the hall to the bathroom I passed my bedroom door. And as I walked past I looked in the room as I always do passing doors,took two more steps, then stepped backward and looked in the room again.”
The witness may have seen an alien being.

“There it was standing in front of my patio door almost as tall as the door. I froze and my jaw dropped. It turned its head, looked at me, and vanished through the door. I shook my head and went to the bathroom.”
The witness then realized there was a loss of time.
“When I walked back into the bedroom I looked at the clock and it was after 3a.m. I sat on the bed and tried to recall walking to my kitchen or what I had been doing this whole time, but couldn’t remember anything except a strange bracelet.”
The witness then felt compelled to draw the creature and the bracelet in hopes of clearing her mind and getting back to sleep.

“I told my husband about this in the morning. That’s when we noticed the furniture. I have my heavy jewelry box and it had been pushed away from the wall right where the creature had been standing. My husband and I felt that the stand having been moved was extremely odd. There would be no reason for us to have done it nor would either of us do it at random.”
The witnesses husband felt somewhat unusual too.
“My husband also recalled having slept heavier than normal that night. Though many things of this nature have occurred throughout my life I have never spoken out about them for fear of ridicule. I have many experiences, but only recently began to document what I remember as it happens currently. I hope by sharing this I can inspire others to come forward, or spark a memory of a similar event in someone else.”

An Ohio witness at West Carrollton reported watching and videotaping two spinning UFOs with a gem shape that appeared to move in formation, according to testimony in Case 72295 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside smoking when two lights were noticed rising above the tree line about 6:30 p.m. on November 7, 2015.
“The two craft traveled a straight and level flight path from northwest to southeast,” the witness stated.“They appeared to be a spinning gem shape, with no sound. Both were spinning in unison, and appeared to be flying in formation. Recon definitely came to mind.”
The witness with a military background could not identify the objects.
“They were not traveling at an unusual speed, or did not make any abnormal maneuvers. They did, however, disappear shortly after passing my position as I faced south. I have been an aircraft mechanic for over 30 years, including four years in the USAF at Edwards AFB. These were absolutely not aircraft that I know of, and unlike any of the unusual things I saw at Edwards. I live about a 15-minute drive from Wright Patterson AFB.”

The witness used the only video resource on hand at the time.
“In the short video I managed to get on my phone, I tried zooming in and out a little to maintain focus. I didn’t have my reading glasses on. You will note towards the end, as tree branches become visible, the lead craft disappears, the second one travels a little further, and then disappears as well. One thing I noted, was the spinning in unison. I do not have the means to enhance video, and would love to see what you can bring out in the video.”
The case was reported to MUFON on November 8, 2015. Ohio MUFON Field Investigator Tom Smith investigated and closed this case as an Unknown.

Er verschijnen meer en meer berichten in de mainstream media over onbekende planeten in ons zonnestelsel.
Dat gebeurt dan net op een moment dat er een aantal grote meteorieten inslaan op de planeet Jupiter.
Het zal menigeen zijn opgevallen dat er vooral het laatste jaar steeds meer wordt gesproken over onbekende planeten in ons zonnestelsel.
Zo verschijnt er nu weer een stuk in de Engelse krant The Independent waarin een onderzoeker stelt dat de grote rampen die de aarde in het verleden hebben getroffen en waardoor grote delen van de bevolking werden weggevaagd, zijn veroorzaakt door een onbekende planeet in ons zonnestelsel.
Het gaat in dit geval om Daniël Whitmire, een astrofysicus die na uitgebreid onderzoek ervan overtuigd is dat toen grote rampen de aarde in het verleden troffen dit werd veroorzaakt door een onbekende planeet.
Een planeet die door zijn omloopbaan door de zogenaamde Kuiper Gordel reist en daar verantwoordelijk is voor het ontstaan van kometen en dergelijke die dan uiteindelijk de aarde raken en zorgen voor dood en verderf.
Bovenstaand artikel lijkt wederom op een stukje conditionering van de mensheid voor de komst van de planeet Nibiru, die allang niet meer onbekend is en steeds vaker wordt waargenomen.
Eerder deze maand deed zich bij de planeet een situatie voor dat als dat op aarde was geweest, we hier met recht hadden kunnen spreken van een zogenaamde ELE. Extinction Level Event, een gebeurtenis waarbij er nog maar heel weinig kans is dat de mensheid dit zou overleven.
Grote meteorieten raakten de planeet en hiervan werden bij toeval opnames gemaakt door een amateurastronoom.
Het zal op Jupiter ook niet dagelijks voorkomen dat er dergelijke objecten op het oppervlak botsen en wie weet zijn deze brokstukken ruimtepuin ook wel richting Jupiter geslingerd door de aanwezigheid van Nibiru.

Date of sighting: March 26, 2016 Location of sighting: Thames, London, England This mysterious creature was recorded for only a few seconds, but if gives the impression that its much larger than we see. The objects shadow below the water is very long and gives me the impression of being much longer than we see on the surface. The Thames is connected to the ocean, so this could be some lost whales, or even a Russia submarine. The Russians are known for sneaking their subs into tight places in other countries. This location is turning out to be pretty prolific when it comes to sightings of UFOs. I could never see what was going on in detail here until I got the night vision camera. It exposes much more and in this video, there are three strange objects including the bright light that always shows up in this particular spot. Using Google Earth I can tell this spot is very close to Blue Diamond which is alleged to be an underground saucer base. The second and third objects to appear came from the same location which should be the Blue Diamond area.

We tellen in dit artikel terug van de nummer 10 naar de nummer 1. De foto bovenaan dit artikel is – helaas – net buiten de top 10 gevallen en toont het oppervlak van de dwergplaneet Pluto, waar de New Horizons-ruimtesonde in juli langs vloog.

10. Buitenaards landschap op komeet 67P
Ooit gedacht dat een komeet er van dichtbij zo uitziet? Wij in ieder geval niet! Op deze foto is het buitenaardse landschap van komeet 67P/C-G zichtbaar. De foto is gemaakt door de Rosetta-ruimtesonde, toen het ruimtevaartuig acht kilometer van het oppervlak van de komeet verwijderd was. Hierdoor zijn kleine rotsblokken duidelijk zichtbaar. 9. Stellair vuurwerk bij Westerlund 2
De Hubble-telescoop vierde zijn 25ste jaar in de ruimte met deze schitterende foto van Westerlund 2. Dit is een groep met 3.000 jonge sterren. Met het blote oog zouden wij niet kunnen zien wat er zich in deze nevel afspeelt, maar Hubble kan door het donkere stof kijken. De pilaren in de nevel zijn stofzuilen, waarin sterren worden geboren. Iedere pilaar is enkele lichtjaren hoog. Krijg je geen genoeg van deze foto? Hier vind je de hoge resolutie-versie (let op: 7 MB).
8. Duinen op Mars
Voor het eerst worden buitenaardse duinen verkend door een robotwagentje. Curiosity arriveerde eerder deze maand bij de Bagnold-duinen op de noordwestelijke helling van Mount Sharp. De duinen verplaatsen een meter per aards jaar. Het marswagentje gaat de duinen nu nader bestuderen en zal daarna zijn beklimming van Mount Sharp vervolgen. De foto hierboven is een uitsnede van deze foto.
7. Uitbarsting op komeet 67P
Ruim 300 mensen vonden deze foto van een uitbarsting op komeet 67P dé astrofoto van 2015. Helaas voor hen geen eerste plek voor dit kiekje, al is deze foto wel de mooiste Rosetta-foto van 2015. De foto is gemaakt op 29 juli, toen de afstand tussen de komeet en de zon bijna het kleinst was. Hierdoor nam de activiteit flink toe. Hoe het precies werkt staat omschreven in dit artikel. En hier zie je precies hoe de uitbarsting is verlopen (hoge resolutie). Dat is toch mooier dan vuurwerk op aarde?
6. Bergen op Pluto
Eindelijk weten we hoe Pluto eruitziet. Dit jaar scheerde de New Horizons-ruimtesonde langs de dwergplaneet op vele miljarden kilometers van de aarde. Het oppervlak van Pluto is verrassend dynamisch. Op deze foto zien we een fascinerend landschap van bevroren bergen, ijzige vlakten en wolken. De bergen op deze foto hebben een hoogte tot 3.500 meter. Dit uitzicht is vastgelegd op een afstand van 18.000 kilometer van Pluto. Bekijk deze foto ook op hoge resolutie. Is de zesde plek terecht? Misschien niet, want deze foto verdient minstens een podiumplek, maar er zijn nóg mooiere ruimtefoto’s gemaakt dit jaar.
5. Tethys speelt verstoppertje
De maan Tethys speelt verstoppertje en schuilt achter de maan Enceladus. Deze maan is echter veel kleiner, waardoor Tethys makkelijk te spotten is. De twee manen zijn te zien boven de beroemde ringen van de planeet Saturnus. Dit portret is ‘geschilderd’ door de Cassini-ruimtesonde die al ruim tien jaar in een baan om Saturnus draait. In iedere editie van deze jaarlijks terugkerende rubriek is minstens één Cassini-foto te vinden, dus dit jaar weer! De foto staat net in het linkerrijtje en is hier te downloaden.
4. Sluiernevel
Ongeveer 8.000 jaar geleden explodeerde er een ster op een afstand van zo’n 2.100 lichtjaar van de aarde. Sindsdien reist er een schokgolf door het interstellaire gas, waardoor er een flinke nevel is ontstaan: de Sluiernevel. Deze nevel is 110 lichtjaar groot en gefotografeerd door de Hubble-ruimtetelescoop. Hubble kiekte de nevel al eens eerder in 1997. In twintig jaar tijd is de nevel zichtbaar groter geworden, zoals in deze video wordt getoond. Bijzonder dat we de groei van een nevel zo duidelijk op aarde kunnen volgen. We moeten dan direct denken aan het bijzondere object V838 Monocerotis in het sterrenbeeld Eenhoorn. Deze rode veranderlijke hyperreus verloor in 2002 de buitenste gaslagen, die sindsdien uitdijen. 3. De aarde achter de maan
Het brons gaat dit jaar naar deze foto van de aarde achter de maan. Hier kon je niet op stemmen, omdat de foto na de start van de stemronde is verschenen. Omdat we veel mails kregen van bezoekers die graag deze foto kozen als astrofoto van het jaar, hebben we besloten om de foto op de derde plek in de top tien te zetten. Overigens kregen we ook verschillende mails over deze foto – van een ‘dubbel lichtzwaard’ in de ruimte – maar die geven we bij deze een eervolle vermelding. De foto van de aarde achter de maan is gemaakt door de Lunar Reconaissance Orbiter, terwijl het ruimtevaartuig 134 kilometer boven de krater Compton vloog. Als je heel goed kijkt, zie je een deel van Nederland, waaronder de Zeeuwse en Zuid-Hollandse eilanden. Op de website van NASA tref je de grote versie van deze foto aan.
2. De Arendnevel
Eén van de mooiste astrofoto’s van het jaar is in de eerste week van januari al verschenen. Het gaat om de beroemde Arendnevel. De stofpilaren zijn vereeuwigd door de Hubble-ruimtetelescoop. Hoewel de zuilen al in 1995 door deze telescoop zijn gefotografeerd, is de nieuwste foto veel scherper. De telescoop gebruikte namelijk zijn high-end Wide Field Camera 3, die in 2009 op de telescoop is geïnstalleerd. In de pilaren van de Arendnevel worden nieuwe sterren geboren. Deze sterren produceren warmte, waardoor de pilaren in de toekomst langzaam van binnen uit worden vernietigd. Dit zullen wij overigens nooit meemaken, omdat het hele proces tienduizenden jaren duurt. 1. Pluto in volle glorie
Er kan maar één foto dé astrofoto van 2015 zijn en dat is dit jaar dit prachtige exemplaar. We zien hier de planeet Pluto in volle glorie. De foto is gemaakt door de New Horizons-ruimtesonde. Op de foto is het witte hart van Pluto duidelijk zichtbaar. Dit hart is 1.600 kilometer breed, oftewel even ver als de afstand van Amsterdam naar Barcelona. Het hart wordt Sputnik Planum genoemd: een relatief gladde, bevroren vlakte met een oppervlak dat niet ouder is dan honderd miljoen jaar. Het is een schitterende foto en het benadrukt de grootsheid van de New Horizons-missie. De New Horizons-ruimtesonde stuurt ook in 2016 nog foto’s van Pluto en zijn manen naar de aarde, dus de kans is groot dat we volgend jaar opnieuw foto’s van Pluto tegenkomen in de astrofoto top 10 van 2016. Daarna blijft het even stil totdat New Horizons in 2019 aankomt bij het Kuipergordelobject 2014 MU69.
En Ceres dan? Vorig jaar voorspelden we dat een foto van Ceres in de top 10 van 2016 zou eindigen. Helaas kreeg Ceres niet genoeg stemmen voor een top 10-positie. Misschien komt dit omdat Ceres – qua oppervlak – niet zo interessant is als Pluto. Toch is Ceres geen open boek, want er zijn mysterieuze witte vlekken op het oppervlak van Ceres gespot. Bij deze willen we als redactie Ceres nog wel even noemen, omdat ook de Dawn-ruimtesonde zeer succesvol is geweest in 2015.

Het SETI-instituut dat op zoek is naar buitenaards leven heeft haar jachtgebied uitgebreid en wel met 20.000 rode dwergen!
Het SETI-instituut is al jaren op zoek naar radiosignalen afkomstig van buitenaardse wezens. Maar die zoektocht – die tot op heden vruchteloos is – was eigenlijk altijd gericht op zonachtige sterren en hun omgeving. Maar nu gaat het instituut het over een andere boeg gooien: SETI richt de pijlen op 20.000 rode dwergen en hun omgeving.
Zonachtige sterren “Rode dwergen hebben in het verleden weinig aandacht gekregen van SETI-wetenschappers,” erkent onderzoeker Jon Richards. “Dat komt doordat wetenschappers aannamen dat andere intelligente soorten zich zouden bevinden op planeten die draaien rond sterren die vergelijkbaar zijn met onze zon.”

Twee redenen Er zijn twee redenen waarom onderzoekers lang dachten dat de omgeving van rode dwergen niet geschikt is voor het ontstaan en in standhouden van (intelligent) buitenaards leven. Beide redenen hebben alles te maken met de leefbare zone rond een rode dwerg. De leefbare zone is een denkbeeldige zone rond een ster. Eventuele planeten in deze zone ontvangen precies genoeg licht en dus warmte van hun ster om ‘leefbaar’ te zijn, dat wil zeggen: vloeibaar water te bevatten. Omdat rode dwergen veel kleiner zijn en minder licht en warmte afgeven dan bijvoorbeeld onze zon, zou je denken dat de leefbare zone rond een rode dwerg smaller is en de kans dat er een leefbare planeet rond zo’n ster draait ook kleiner is. En dan de tweede reden: zelfs als er in die smalle leefbare zone een planeet te vinden is, dan is deze waarschijnlijk toch niet leefbaar, zo stelden onderzoekers. Omdat een rode dwerg weinig warmte afgeeft, bevindt de leefbare zone zich dicht bij de ster. Dat betekent dat ook de afstand tussen een planeet in die leefbare zone en de ster vrij klein is. Zo klein dat de planeet waarschijnlijk een synchrone rotatie kent. Dat wil zeggen dat altijd dezelfde zijde van die planeet op de ster gericht is. Het resultaat: de ene kant van de planeet is gloeiend heet en de ander zijde is veel kouder. Niet direct de beste plek voor het ontstaan en in standhouden van leven.
Oceanen en atmosferen Maar toch gaat SETI nu dus op jacht naar leven nabij rode dwergen. Waarom? Recent onderzoek toont aan dat er op planeten rond rode dwergen leven mogelijk is, zelfs wanneer ze continu dezelfde zijde op die rode dwerg gericht hebben. Zolang die planeten maar oceanen en atmosferen hebben. Die atmosfeer of oceanen kunnen namelijk hitte van de dagzijde (de zijde die continu op de ster gericht is) naar de nachtzijde verplaatsen, waardoor toch een groot deel van de planeet leefbaar is.

Ouder Nu recent onderzoek aantoont dat leven rond rode dwergen helemaal niet uitgesloten is, is dit eigenlijk de beste plek om op zoek te gaan naar intelligent leven. Rode dwergen zijn gemiddeld miljarden jaren ouder dan zonachtige sterren. “Oudere zonnestelsels hebben veel meer tijd gehad om intelligente soorten voort te brengen,” benadrukt onderzoeker Seth Shostak. Bovendien heeft recent onderzoek aangetoond dat ongeveer een zesde tot de helft van alle rode dwergen een planeet bezitten die zich in de leefbare zone bevindt. “Ongeveer driekwart van alle sterren zijn rode dwergen,” legt Shostak uit. “Dat betekent dat wanneer je een groot aantal van deze sterren bestudeert – laten we zeggen de dichtstbijzijnde 20.000 – deze gemiddeld de helft dichterbij staan dan de dichtstbijzijnde 20.000 zonachtige sterren.” En dichterbij betekent dat een eventueel signaal van die sterren en hun omgeving sterker is.
Naar verwachting gaat het onderzoek naar de 20.000 rode dwergen zo’n twee jaar in beslag nemen.
The flyby of asteroid 2013 TX68 is the closest ever predicted Earth approach for an object this large. The 150 feet (45 meters) rock could pass 11,000 miles (17,000km) from Earth on March 5th which is 21 times closer to our planet than the moon, although NASA admits it might also pass nine million miles away as the asteroid’s orbit is highly uncertain (condition code 7) and the distance of its pass is not precisely known at this time experts say.
However, if the asteroid passes at its closest possible distance of just 11,000 miles (17,000 km), the flyby will be an exceedingly close one and If that were the case, the asteroid would come even closer than orbiting communications satellites.
Asteroid 2013 TX68 has an estimated mass of about 130,000 metric tons. The space rock is traveling at about 32,211 miles per hour (51,839 kilometers per hour), relative to Earth.
According to NASA, if an asteroid of a size similar to that of 2013 TX68 were to impact Earth, it would release approximately 2.5 megatons of energy in the atmosphere and would be expected to cause regional devastation.
A comparison to the impact potential of an asteroid the size of 2013 TX68 could be made to the impact of a near-Earth object that occurred in 1908 in Tuguska, Siberia.
Known in the asteroid community as the “Tunguska Event,” this impact of an asteroid just slightly smaller than 2013 TX68 (approximately 100 – 130 feet/30-40 meters across) is believed to have flattened about 825 square miles (2200 square kilometers) of forest in and around the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in what is now Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia.
The asteroid was discovered by the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey on Oct. 6, 2013, as it approached Earth on the nighttime side. After three days of tracking, the asteroid passed into the daytime sky and could no longer be observed. Because it was not tracked for very long,
Although scientists cannot predict its precise orbit around the sun, they say that it cannot impact Earth during its flyby next month.
Furthermore, it seems cosmic rays are rising rapidly and the Earth is tilting North, which is a physical Pole Shift combined with a magnetic polar shift. A drone, originally designed for testing the atmosphere on Mars, is being used by NASA to inspect natural gas pipelines. Test flights will show whether the tech can be used for large-scale monitoring that will contribute to climate change studies.
Inspecting natural gas lines for leaks is a never-ending (and potentially dangerous) job—not for a drone though. To that end, a drone that was originally designed for testing the atmosphere on Mars is being used by NASA to inspect natural gas pipelines.
Methane is not easy to detect. And that’s putting it mildly. It’s a colorless, toxic, and by the time you can detect it (usually by smell), it’s often too late. It’s also devastating to the environment.
Developed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California, the Open Path Laser Spectrometer (OPLS) is able to detect methane in parts per billion by volume, and it is small enough to be installed in a quadcopter.

Currently, the OPLS-equipped drone is undergoing flight tests. The project will also carry out flight tests of fixed-wing drones, which can fly faster and farther than the copter and may be more practical in remote settings.
“These tests mark the latest chapter in the development of what we believe will eventually be a universal methane monitoring system for detecting fugitive natural-gas emissions and contributing to studies of climate change,” says Lance Christensen, OPLS principal investigator at JP

A 17-year-old has been arrested for stealing a model spaceship close to the most famous place on earth for alien sightings.
He was caught on CCTV at the International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico.
It's believed he had two accomplices who are still on the loose.
The model was taken on 19 March and was later found in pieces just outside Roswell.

'Bizarre' star may show alien civilisation
The International UFO Museum and Research Center is not home to any real UFOs. Instead, it houses literature and memorabilia related to the infamous incident of 1947, when a military spy balloon crashed on a ranch just outside the town.
The local paper at first reported that a "flying disc" had crashed, but the air force issued a press release in response saying it was a weather balloon.
Suggestions of a cover-up didn't come until years later, when a group of UFO enthusiasts got hold of documents related to the crash, which they say prove that the object was actually a spacecraft and that alien bodies were recovered.

A new report came out in 1994 which said the wreckage wasn't, in fact, a spaceship or a weather balloon, but US spying equipment used for picking up Russian radio signals.
Despite most of the "aliens" in the photos that appeared at the height of the conspiracy looking suspiciously like something you might find in Toys 'R' Us, the theories are still going strong.
The truth, say the hardcore believers on the darkest corners of the internet, may be found in Area 51, the secretive military base in the Nevada Desert.
Nobody knows what's really in it. But people have a lot of fun guessing. Here are some of the wilder theories.
Crashed UFOs
Some people think that the whole weather balloon/secret spyware story is nothing more than a cover story, and that what really happened when the Roswell craft crashed was that the wreckage, and the aliens that died in the crash, were taken to Area 51 and hidden.
A New York Times article from 1996 features Glenn Campbell, a man who decamped to a trailer near Area 51 to sell maps of the area to tourists, and believes the government might be hiding UFOs there.
Another common belief is that scientists and military engineers on the base examine alien technology for us to copy on Earth. Basically, Snapchat might have been invented in Space. But probably not.

Real aliens that are definitely not fake
Just before his death in 2013, a man called Boyd Bushman revealed a collection of photos of "aliens", claiming they were taking during his time working at Area 51 as an employee of Lockheed Martin, an aerospace company. But not everyone is convinced that he ever went to Area 51 or that he worked for the firm.
The aliens in the photos look very similar to a cheap plastic toy. Chris Sereda, who calls himself a "spiritual explorer", reckons the toys were placed in supermarkets by the government after the photos were released as some sort of complicated double bluff.

Petite pilots with abnormal heads
In Annie Jacobsen's 2011 book Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base, she claimed that the Roswell craft was the result of an evil plan between the Russian dictator Stalin and a Nazi surgeon.
She says the alien bodies allegedly seen by eyewitnesses after the crash were actually "human guinea pigs that appeared to be children" created as part of a Cold War plot to send the US into a panic over an alien invasion threat.
Nuclear bomb testing and spy planes
The Telegraph reported in 2013 that the CIA had finally acknowledged "strange goings on" at Area 51.
A report was released under the Freedom of Information Act, which described the area as an "Atomic Energy Commission test site", and revealed that the U-2 and Oxcart spy planes were also tested there. Jeffrey Richelson, the researcher who got hold of the documents, suggested that the numerous reported UFO sightings around the base were actually the planes.
A fake moon landing
This one's actually true. National Geographic published a list of facts about Area 51, including the revelation that astronauts tested land rovers and life support equipment at the base before their real mission to the moon.
Apparently, there was also a tennis court and a bowling alley to entertain the employees stationed there - or was it so the aliens could keep fit?

Secret railways
Area 51 isn't small - in fact, it's over 23 miles wide. But some conspiracy theorists reckon the real business happens underground.
"A few claim the underground facility has up to 40 levels and that it is attached via underground railways to other sites in Los Alamos, White Sands and Los Angeles," claims darkgovernment.com.
But no-one's ever seen large amounts of concrete and other construction material enter the site.
A gift shop
Reddit user kiver16 did an AMA with his mum's boyfriend, who claims to have been to Area 51. Instead of being concerned with the threat of alien invasion, one poster just wanted to know if they'd be able to pick up a souvenir of their trip to Nevada.
"Area 51 has a gift shop?" Asked Texas_Hog. Kiver16 confirmed that yes, it does, but it's "somewhere outside the gate [and] nothing to do with Area 51."

Witness report: Driving towards the Village Commons in South Hadley, my friend and I could see two bright lights in the sky that kind of looked like head lights. They were just sitting in the same spot for a very long time. We could see them about a half a mile away. As we got towards the center of the village commons, it looked as though the UFO was now over us. The two lights that we had previously seen turned into three very bright lights. As we were freaking out I had climbed into the backseat of the car and stuck my head out the window. I could see the three very bright lights in a triangle shape and as I was looking at them, I could make out the circular shape of the craft. It looked very low and gigantic. Not long after it just sat above us and hovered, it started to move very fast and get far away. At this point, I needed to head home but my friend who witnessed it with me, continued to search for it after I left.
She found it again on 202 in South Hadley and followed it all the way to Memorial Drive in Chicopee. She called me freaking out saying how close she was to it and that she was going to pull over to try and capture a picture. As soon as she parked, she said she was underneath it like we were before, and then the phone started to act up. I started to lose her and eventually our call dropped. She called me back freaking out telling me she captured pictures and a video. I strongly believe that I saw a UFO tonight.
