Unidentified Aerial Phenomena sightings were reported over Arizona, California, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Michigan, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Washington. Sightings of UFOs were also reported in Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Slavonia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

The purpose of these files is to report the UFO eyewitness and photo/video evidence that occurs on a daily basis around the world and in space. These Files assume that extraterrestrial intelligent life not only exists, but my hypothesis is that the over a thousand UFOs reported each month represent technologically advanced spacecraft conducting surveillance of Earth. I personally became interested in UFOs when London Control ordered me to intercept one over England while flying for the US Air Force. Under Project Blue Book, the US Air Force investigated UFOs for more than twenty years; and we continue this research. I believe the God of the universe has spread life throughout the cosmos and UFO's are visiting us in ever-increasing numbers.

US and Britain 'Most at Risk' for Asteroid Strikes

Anissa Haddadi writes, "Experts at Southampton University have drawn up a list of countries most likely to suffer severe loss of life or catastrophic damage, should a large asteroid hit Earth. The news comes days after UFOs were apparently spotted flying over the BBC building in London .

The countries most at risk from an asteroid strike are Brazil, Britain, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Nigeria, the Philippines and the U.S. Any of these countries could mean millions of deaths. Canada, the U.S., China, Japan and Sweden are rated most at risk in terms of potential damage to their infrastructure. The report comes after a rock the size of a house came within 7,500 miles of Earth earlier this week. "The threat of Earth being hit by an asteroid is increasingly being accepted as the single greatest natural disaster hazard faced by humanity," said Nick Bailey, of the University of Southampton, who developed the NEOimpactor software."The consequences for human populations and infrastructure as a result of an impact are enormous."

Bailey also pointed out that an asteroid which landed in a remote spot near the Tunguska River in Russia in 1908 devastated a very large perimeter and the impacts would have been catastrophic if the area had been populated. "While it only flattened unpopulated forest, had it exploded over London it could have devastated everything within the M25," he said.

Scientists think that 65 million years ago, an asteroid was responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs as a rock up to 10 miles in diameter hit Earth at 25,000 miles an hour with a force of 100 megatons, the equivalent of one Hiroshima bomb for everyone on the planet. The Apophis asteroid is expected to bring in Doomsday in 2036?

Many also insist that if Earth has until now managed to avoid being hit by such a large asteroid, it is partly due to Jupiter's gravitational field -- which limits our exposure to asteroids. Thanks to http://uk.ibtimes.com/

North Dakota Dogfight With a Ufo

FARGO -- An aerial dogfight between a pilot of the North Dakota Air National Guard and a UFO took place in the skies over Fargo on Oct. 1, 1948. The Air Guard pilot, George Gorman, was a seasoned flier, not knowing the intention of the pilot of the object, Gorman, in his P-51 Mustang, decided to engage the object. The 27-minute dogfight between the P-51 and the UFO was witnessed by two air traffic controllers in a tower at Hector Airport in Fargo and the pilot of a Piper Cub who witnessed it.

Gorman was born July 7, 1923, and grew up in Fargo, where his father was a Cass County agent. During World War II, Gorman became a B-25 instructor for French aviation students. When the war was over, he returned to Fargo and was employed as the manager of a construction company. He joined the 178th Fighter Squadron as a second lieutenant. On October 1, 1948, Gorman was flying cross-country with other Guard members. Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the other pilots landed at Hector, but Gorman decided to get in some extra flying time. Gorman was notified by the control tower that a Piper Cub was in the area. He could see the smaller plane 500 feet below him. Five minutes later, he spotted a dimly lit disk-shaped object slowly circling the city. Gorman contacted the tower asking about another plane and was told there were only two planes in the air over Fargo. Gorman approached the object to investigate and it suddenly brightened and accelerated. The object had been traveling "about 250 miles per hour, but as Gorman began the chase, it speeded up to "about 600 miles per hour. The P-51 could only travel 400 mph, so the object quickly outdistanced Gorman. It then made a "180-degree turn and came straight at him. Gorman "attempted to crash into it, but as they neared, it veered upward and passed over him.

When Gorman continued his pursuit, the object climbed to 14,000 feet, the P-51 in its chase went into a power stall, and Gorman temporarily passed out. At this point, the object turned in a northwest direction and disappeared. Observing this action were Lloyd D. Jensen and H.E. Johnson, two air traffic controllers in the tower at Hector. Another eyewitness was Dr. Cannon, a Fargo physician, who was the pilot of the Piper Cub. Both controllers noted the object's rapid rate of speed and how it easily outdistanced the P-51. Gorman was so shaken up he had difficulty landing his P-51. He then contacted his commanding officer, Major D.C. Jones and gave him a signed statement and referred the incident to U.S. Air Force intelligence. On October 4, an intelligence unit headed by Maj. Paul Kubala arrived in Fargo and questioned Gorman, Cannon and the two controllers.

Gorman signed another sworn statement on Oct. 23, stating: "I am convinced that there was definite thought behind its maneuvers. "I am further convinced that the object was governed by the laws of inertia because its acceleration was rapid but not immediate and although it was able to turn fairly tight at considerable speed, it still followed a natural curve. "When I attempted to turn with the object I blacked out temporarily due to excessive speed I do not believe that there are many if any pilots who could withstand the turn and speed effected by the object and remain conscious."The object was not only able to out turn and out speed my aircraft, but was able to attain a far steeper climb and able to maintain a constant rate of climb far in excess of my aircraft.

The Air Force concluded that the object was a weather balloon but weather observer George Sanderson stated,- "the time and altitudes didn't fit, and the wind direction was wrong. With this evidence, Gorman insisted that it was not a weather balloon.

The Air Material Command then warned Gorman not to divulge any more information or he would be subject to a court-martial.

Gorman maintained his silence. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of lieutenant colonel. After retiring, Gorman was a building contractor and talked publicly about his experience with the UFO. UFOs at Nuclear Missile Sites in 1967-68

Robert Hastings writes, Last night I revised part of my book, I am working on the second edition--and integrated some new material I received from a former Minuteman launch officer.

In 2005, I posted a series of messages on the Yahoo missile_talk group's bulletin board, summarizing the testimony of former and retired USAF sources who had reported their UFO-related experiences at various nuclear missile sites over the years. My hope was that some of the group's members, come forth and discuss their own experiences. A few of them, including Larry Manross wrote,

"Robert, you are right on. As a launch crew commander at Minot AFB from 1966-1970, I will tell you that there were UFO incidents. In one [during which I was present] the security team upstairs went into a defensive posture with lights turned out. They had called in a UFO sighting to the base and radar was tracking it. All of a sudden it buzzed the launch control center and that was when they cut the lights and took a defensive position.

During 1967 or 1968, I was a 1st Lieutenant and a junior officer in the capsule. The security team kept us informed of their concerns; especially the buzzing of the Launch Control Center. I wish I had been upstairs when the incident took place, but as you know the launch crews were down in the capsules for 24 hour uninterrupted stretches. But Base Ops did confirm that they were tracking an unidentified object on radar.

I later asked Manross to elaborate on these statements. He responded, --

As a missile launch officer we had numerous UFO incidents that seemed to be all around us. I was in the 742nd Strategic Missile Squadron, and we manned Kilo, Lima, Motel, November, and Oscar. I was primarily assigned to Kilo or Lima with the commanders Capt. John Deresky and later Capt. Charles Brickley. Neither of them was with me that night. Later I moved up to the commander role. I was attempting to sleep while the commander was dealing with security upstairs and the base headquarters regarding some unidentified [flying] object. It was when his board lit up like a Christmas tree for a moment that he got scared and asked for back-up. The lit-up board signals that the missiles have launched. It was a false signal but correlated with the incident taking place upstairs. It all happened quite fast. Then things returned to normal.

[Anyway,] that was when I became engaged. The commander was rattled and so was the security team upstairs. The security team reported that something had buzzed the LCF and that they had gone into a defensive posture, turning out the lights and drawing their weapons. They indicated it was very bright and traveling at a high rate of speed. They did not describe any shape, etc., other than it was bright. [Then] base headquarters reported that the unidentified object was no longer on radar and that was the last we heard of it.

There was no debriefing—nada. Just another day pulling an alert at Minot. I do remember the senior officer saying something about how I should not talk about the incident without getting authorization. [In spite of that,] all the officers talked about UFOs and what was going on. As you can imagine there was quite a range of opinions. The common assumption among many [officers] was that the objects were somehow drawing power from the missile warheads.

A security team was stationed at one of the missile launchers because the radar surveillance was out. A UFO hovered over the launch pad and they discharged their weapons and claim they heard plinks as the bullets hit the object. Every security team I worked with said it was a true story and had taken place at Minot AFB. The number of UFO incidents at the time, during 1966-'70, were so frequent, that in the summer the security team sometimes would put chairs in front of the building, or on the roof of the building, to watch for UFOs. Can you believe it?

I had heard nearly identical stories from other former or retired USAF personnel who had been stationed at Ellsworth, F.E. Warren, and Malmstrom AFBs during that era. This particular side show is almost humorous: Nuclear missile security guards sitting outside Minuteman Launch Control Facilities at night looking for UFOs because the objects appeared above the missile field so frequently! Babylonian Creation Story of Enuma Elish

The Enuma Elish is a Babylonian creation story contrasting the forces of creation and chaos. The fragments of these seven clay Akkadian Cuniform tablets were found by Austen Henry Layard in 1849 at the ruins of Ashurbanipal, Nineveh. There is a discrepancy regarding the original date of the tablets; with an estimate of anywhere from the 18th century BCE to the 11th century BCE.

George Smith published the Enuma Elish tablets in 1876 as The Chaldean Genesis. These tablets were similar to the book of Genesis in that they both depicted a creator god that brought organization to a universe filled with chaos. Did the authors of the book of Genesis rewrite the Enuma Elish and claim it as their own? Of particular interest is the fifth tablet. Many of the lines are missing; but enough are left to suggest that the Babylonian hero god named Marduk created star stations for other gods to dwell upon.

He constructed stations for the great gods, fixing their astral likenesses as the stars of the Zodiac. (2) He founded the station of the pole star [Nebiru] to determine their bounds, (6) that none might err or go astray.

Alongside it he set up the stations of Enlil and Ea. (8) having opened up the gates on both sides, He strengthened the locks to the left and the right. (10)

The epic myth in the Enuma Elish is about a civil war between the gods. The god Marduk is chosen to lead the rebellion against Tiamet, the dragon of the primordial sea and against the leader of the Anunnaki. Marduk was renowned as the god of Mars with the symbol of the snake-dragon. Snake-dragons to this day appear on many royal crests, and many ancient societies venerated snakes and dragons. Billions Found at Hindu Temple in Southern India

A treasure trove of gold and silver jewelry, coins and precious stones said to be worth 500 billion rupees ($11.2 billion) has been found in a Hindu temple in southern India.

Thousands of necklaces, coins and precious stones have been kept in at least five underground vaults at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple which is renowned for its intricate sculptures.

The temple, dedicated to Hindu lord Vishnu, was built hundreds of years ago by the king of Travancore and donations by devotees have been kept in the temple's vaults since.

In June, California had 42 UFO reports leading the nation, Illinois had 27 reports; Texas 25 reports; Indiana 22 reports; and New York 21 reports. MUFON received 462 sightings last month.

Alabama Glowing Orbs

Birmingham -- I saw three amber glowing orbs in a triangle formation from the drive thru at McDonalds over the Hibbetts Sports Store southwest. The just hovered in one place and did not move until they disappeared.

California Orbs and Silver Object

El Monte -- On June 26, 2011, 4:35 PM, the witness was outside by her swimming pool when she noticed silver objects in the sky. At 4:35 PM, the first object moved eastbound and five minutes later, three objects stopped close by the first one forming a triangle facing west. At 4:48 PM, the last one moved east and now the triangle is facing east. At 5:05 PM, Now the head of the triangle moved slowly and went under the first object. Note: The witness videotaped an unknown silver object that was hovering in the day sky. He uploaded the video to YouTube. Several frames shows a jet and others can be heard. It is unclear if the jets were pursuing the object. The object does not appear to be a balloon, blimp, kite or any other "flotation device." Venus was barely visible. Idaho Rectangle

Carey -- A rectangular object was observed for three minutes on June 25, 2011, at 4:40 PM, that instantly vanished. As a skeptic regarding UFO sightings, this is not easy to report. We were traveling 14 miles east of Carey eastbound on Idaho State Highway 20. The object was ahead of us and appeared stationary for about three minutes and then was instantly gone.

Illinois Red Light

Chicago Ridge -- At about 10:06 PM, on July 4, 2011, I looked west out of my balcony doors to a clear sky and fireworks were going off. I thought at first it was fireworks, but it was the same red light I saw two nights ago. It was bright red light that hovered high in the sky. An airplane happened to fly below it slowly, so I know for sure it wasn't an airplane. It starts getting smaller and smaller then just disappears quickly! Two nights prior on July 2, 2011, my friend and I were driving at 10 PM, at night and we saw the same light. It just hovered there and then disappeared in Palos Park. On July 3rd that same friend called me and said he saw the light again at 8 PM, over Alsip, Illinois.

MELROSE PARK -- I was outside looking at building the lights that I just turned on, when the circuit breaker popped off as large light in the clouds caught my attention on July 5 2011. It was a solid orange red color heading east. It took about 5 to 8 seconds flying over head as it past it turned black and I could then see it was circular in shape against the clouds. A few seconds later a loud plane flew over head with its lights blinking and smaller than the object. I realized the orange red light was silent. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Indiana Glowing Red Object

Auburn -- My wife and I were standing in our yard looking east when we spotted a glowing red object flying northeast. We watched it fly silently at a slow pace. As it was becoming obstructed from view by my neighbor's house, I ran around to the other side to watch it. As it flew across the sky I happened to look straight up and I saw a large white object flying southeast over head. We were lucky enough to catch it on video as it flew off and faded away to nothing. Maryland Star Brightens

Haystack Mountain -- My girlfriend and I sat down to relax on my parent's patio on June 29, 2011, facing southeast towards Haystack Mountain. We saw a light like a very bright star gliding southeast. I said, "I hope they come for us!" The object was just moving through the same space in the trees as it had just moved. It was like a glitch in the Matrix. Like in the movie, "The Matrix when the cat walks in front of the door twice, like it's on a loop. It seemed brighter and bigger than before.

It was moving fast enough that it should have kept going over the mountain and out of sight, but it was like magic. I ran to get a closer look and it wasn't in the part of the sky I expected, it was further down the mountain towards Cumberland. It was moving faster and becoming 10 or 20 times bigger, then faded to a dim red star and vanished. There was no sound. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Michigan Flying Object

HOWELL-- I was in my swimming pool with my two children at about 9 PM on July 5, 2011, when my 6 year old daughter pointed, "Look it's a space shuttle. I grabbed my glasses and I could see no wings and there was no noise. It was a white cigar shaped object from my perspective. My 7 year old son, who has much better vision than I do, said it had three windows and he drew this picture of the object. I would guess it to be 500 feet above us. It was a very bright white color and reminded me of a blimp but going much faster than that. It flew south over the trees and out of sight. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Missouri Object Photographed

Wentzville -- On June 27, 2011, around 7:30 PM, I was on phone talking to a classmate and looking southwest when I noticed a round black dot in the sky. The object performed linear maneuvers, up, down and left to right. It seemed very controlled and deliberate. I was able to determine that the object was moving independently. I told my classmate what I was seeing and it drew closer. I tried to take a photo with my cell phone camera but it was unable to focus so I grabbed my digital camera. I snapped a photo as the object made a backwards letter J swoop and shot outward and disappeared beyond the horizon.
The object was round and black, solid, possesses detail such as a domed top, maybe a flat bottom, circular in shape. Thanks to MUFON CMS

New Jersey Huge Pulsing Colors Object

Newark -- I was relaxing on my back stoop on June 29, 2011, at 10:16 PM, and spotted a ball of light rising in front of me from the west, and tracking nearly straight up. I live in the traffic lanes of Newark Liberty Airport, and have seen and photographed many planes going overhead. I had my cell phone nearby, and videotaped a very bright ISS, at magnitude -3.7.

I reviewed the footage and glanced back at the area where the ISS had emerged and saw an oval, canted, glowing jellyfish, about half the width of my outstretched index finger, slowly drifting silently south on the western horizon. It was like a bubble with white top and bottom of the ellipse, with red pulsing light on the bottom tip that changed colors, and a few other greens and blues in the top end.

I caught a few seconds of video and pictures before the object brightened, then moved out of sight. The object reappeared in a hole between two trees. I posted this to Facebook, and a witness in a nearby town claims she heard engines and it was an advertising blimp. A second witness in the same town claims he saw the same object at 3AM that morning. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Point Pleasant -- Barbara Broughlette writes, "I have never seen or reported anything even remotely like a ufo before. I saw something on June 29, 2011, with many red unblinking lights emanating from the sides and bottom, and possibly the top. It was about maybe 1,000 to 1,500 feet high with no sound. The sky still had a bit of light in it, and I could see that the "body" was matte black or dark in color. Although I was seeing it mostly from the underside, it did seem to have a compact roundish shape, and I think there was some sort of dome on the top - again, like maybe a helicopter might have.

The stars were out already and it was a clear night so I got a good look at it traveling in a large arc going from west to southeast. I saw it for several minutes and was shaking so I couldn't take my eyes off it. I saw it again around 10 PM, and didn't remember to look at the clock. It was hard to concentrate on anything after the experience. It was not traveling too fast, maybe about 100-150 miles an hour. The way it moved reminded me of a helicopter, but there was no sound, and only the non-blinking red lights and lots of them. I also did not see any propeller on top. It seemed to fly south over the ocean. Then as I watched all the lights went off except one non-blinking red light. A few seconds later, it disappeared. I can't imagine that one of the military bases in the area would let something fly at night with lights that would be confusing to other pilots. And there are lots of small planes around here and higher above where I saw the thing is a path that is used routinely by jets. Oh, and I'm not crazy. I'm a grandmother, ex-corporate fortune 500 management people. Last night I was up at the beach around 10 to see if it was coming back. It's really bothering me. Thanks to Barbara Broughlette

Oklahoma Streak

On July 2, 2011, it was wobbling around high in the sky. It was somewhat reminiscent of an eye. Very bright white in the center like a star but brighter than any other star. There were four yellow rays fanning down and four yellow rays pointing up. It slowly drifted up and to the south all the while wobbling side to side and up and down.

The oddest part is when I viewed it through binoculars it appeared completely different. It was like a triangular emerald with the point down and shooting out from the point was a yellow bolt like lightning. Directly under the bolt was a white chevron. At first I was excited to again see a UFO, but then I felt let down as nothing more happened. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Pennsylvania UFOs

Warren -- I was fishing by myself on the Alleghany River, at 9:17 PM; and I looked above the refinery across the river to see it start to move slowly. I flashed them the cross sign with my L.E.D. flashlight, to let them know I could see them. The ufo moved very slowly then in about two minutes it accelerated fast and was gone. Five minutes later, the Ufo appeared above me and vanished. At 9:30 PM, I noticed two stars that look like they're coming out, and the right star started to move slowly to the right and I saw another UFO above me hovering at about 1000 feet. I pulled out my light and gave them my flash sign as it started to move slowly down fast towards me. It gained in size and brightness about five times. They flashed me back with their ship and they were coming down and went back up to the right slowly following the other UFO buddy. Thirty seconds later they vanished. I caught a nice 14 inch catfish right after the UFO. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Rhode Island Flying Road Flare

Portsmouth -- While at a cookout party close to midnight on July 1, 2011, I noticed a reddish orange flickering light similar to that given off by a road flare moving across the northwest quadrant of the sky. It flew out of the airport flying north just above the tree line. It was moving slowly and climbing slightly taking perhaps a minute to cross a 45 degree arc of sky. Then it came closer silently to out location near the Greendale Vineyards. I called my friend's attention to it trying to figure out what it was. We observed it as it came closer, then rose almost vertically out of sight. We made several UFO jokes afterwards. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Tennessee Bright Object

PINEY FLATS -- I was driving home from my boyfriend's house on December 2, 2011, and the sky was a pretty pink color and it was close to sunset and so I took out my cell phone and took a picture of the horizon. Later as I looked at the picture, I realized there was an object in the upper right corner that I did not notice when I took the picture. I zoomed the object in and could not come to any explanation as to what it might be. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Texas Triangular Craft Descends Alarmingly Low

RED OAK -- Three members of my family and I were sitting in our backyard on June 10, 2011, at 9 PM, when we noticed an object in the northwestern sky. We kept our eyes trained on it as it descended lower and lower. As it continued to descend we recognized it to be a metallic triangular craft having three white lights affixed to each of its corners. The craft continued to descend to about 500 feet, or less, above us. It was DEFINITELY aware of our presence, and at this altitude to get a closer view of us. The natural outdoor lighting around this time wasn't optimal, so scant details of the craft's exterior were acquired. We could however make out that it was metallic. The craft's lights were jarringly bright. It hovered, silently, above us at this altitude for about a minute and then silently disappeared. The craft exited at an out-of-this-world speed into the northeastern sky. We have seen strange lights in the corn-field behind our house for years, but no experience can equate to this encounter. My family claims to have experienced encounters of the fourth kind as well, resulting in possible implantation of seemingly metallic objects no larger than a centimeter. We have lost four hours or more at a time during these encounters. I feel they are more common than people report or admit.

Zapata -- On June 24, 2011, I was riding in back seat as we drove from Laredo to South Padre, when our driver saw a craft and pointed it out to us."To my amazement there was a round object moving westbound no higher than two to three stories over our head next to the road, that flew silently and just disappeared out of my sight. My cousin, who saw it first approaching our vehicle, described it as a silver triangle."

"When I was able to see it more clearly, it was already overhead and it looked like a disk with a lot of lights underneath. I couldn't identify the object as aircrafts I have ever seen." Thanks to MUFON CMS

Virginia Triangle

Chicahominy -- On July 1, 2011, I was looking outside and saw a squadron of three lights flying over the house. I walked outside with my camera twice and again saw lights. This time upon closer inspection I captured a triangle on film. After the triangle seemingly disappeared over the tree line I sat outside and waited. Soon I saw a flashing orb with 2 white and one red light flying over I observed said object for about 4 minutes until it faded over the river. (I live on the Chicahominy River) I acquired an overwhelming feeling of excitement and anxiety and as noted on the tape I cursed many times. I do not want this to be exposed to the media! Bonney Lake -- We saw 15 to 20 red lights moving in a pattern towards Mt. Rainier on June 25, 2011, at 10:09 PM. The witness reported his sighting using our report form. He provided a link to the video that he uploaded to YouTube. The video was downloaded and brightened some to better reveal detail. Several lights can be seen on the video although they don't show up as bright. One still image is posted above. The video above has been clipped, but shows the most revealing frames. Users wishing to view the entire video can view on YouTube at the address supplied in the description above. Some portions of the video do show erratic moving lights. One light appears to a reflection of ground lights, but that does not explain the other lights. No frames show 15 to 20 lights as described by witness. However, this not unusual given that the video was taken with a cell phone (IPhone).

Bremerton -- These all happened on June 28th at 10:03 PM. The lights lasted just 30 seconds and they vanished. The photos are all in order. This happened in Bremerton, Washington on the east side at the apartments.

Note: The weather report showed that winds were light and scattered clouds were measured at 10,000 feet. The streaking of the lights in the photo is probably due to a combination of motion of the lights and camera movement.

Bulgaria UFO Flies over the Power-Vested

Sofia's -- A UFO flew over the homes of important men in the VIP neighborhood of Boyana. Late Friday evening, July I, 2011, a flying object accompanied by a dozen lights appeared in the sky over Boyana. The Bulgarian National Television broadcast the shocking images taken by a witness to the event. "It was about 10:30 PM, when a UFO flew silently east from Vitosha. Assen Yovov spoke live on TV. "I saw the large discs as bright-red as fire, and have not seen anything like this before. I do not know what it is but I want this disc to go to a laboratory and be researched. I do not want people to think I am mad. Nobody from the residences of the Bulgarian President and Prime Minister commented on the UFO appearance. Thanks to Bulgarian TV.

Canada Flashing Lights

Penticton, B.C. -- At about 10:30 PM, on June 28, 2011, I looked out the doorway and saw what looked like a star that was flashing red and blue intermittently. Upon closer inspection it seemed to be moving ever so slightly like a firefly. I called my roommate to look and as soon as she came it started releasing little white glowing orbs. Then two glowing objects shot across the sky at high speed zigzagging along. They covered the entire sky in three seconds and made an abrupt 90 degree turn without slowing down. Also three balls of light formed a triangle then became one, and then disappeared reappearing a short distance away. It almost looked like projectiles were being fired back and forth between different objects, but they were too far away to tell for sure. This went on for hours before I went to bed at about 4 AM. Prague -- My girlfriend was taking pictures of the castle in Prague, on holiday with her sister on February 20, 2011. When I reviewed the pictures I saw a metallic disk in the top right hand corner of the picture. At first I was reminded of Billy Meier's Plejaren Beamships as I research a great deal into UFO and our relations with the ancients. Then because I am from a military background (specialist soldier) and currently work with former specialist troops. I asked the opinion of some helicopter pilots. They said they couldn't tell what it was which fueled my suspicion of what it was. One pilot thought it could be a bird. I have no doubt it probably is a UFO because I saw many as a boy in Scotland. Sweden Bright Teardrop

Heby -- A very big, very bright (whiter than white) flash-bulb shaped thing with no tail was observed falling very fast from the sky on June 27, 2011, at 11:45 PM. It was faster than any plane but not as fast as a "falling star". It made no sound and fell into a forest where it is not possible for me to go to. UK/England Two UFOs

Borehamwood Herts -- My partner and I were out in the back garden last night and we both saw two UFOs. The first was at 10:25 PM, which was a spherical, shimmering yellow-orange object travelling north. It stayed in position for about 30 seconds as it faded and disappeared. The second appeared at 10.40 PM, and was much smaller as it was much further away but similar in appearance. The Bragalia Files

Annie Jacobsen’s recently released bestseller Area 51 has stirred global interest. She has been featured numerous times on many networks and websites. Her book was reviewed last week by the New York Times. Jacobsen’s biggest “scoop” concerns the Roswell crash. She learned from an early executive of one of our nation’s largest defense contractors that the Roswell crash of 1947 was resultant from a scheme by Russia’s Josef Stalin and escaped Nazi mad-scientist Josef Mengele to “hoax” the Americans by staging UFO sightings. The plan was to induce panic and psychological warfare in the manner of the Orson Welles War of the World broadcast aftermath. They would launch unusually-designed craft from a “mothership” (located near Alaska.) These were single-wing, remote-controlled “UFOs” with “alien-like” children on board. The craft were of Nazi German design (captured by the Soviets at the close of the War) and the “aliens” were actually 13 year olds. The grotesque child aviators were biologically engineered by Mengele with strange large heads and oddly spaced eyes. The craft and pilots had crashed near Roswell in July of 1947 and were flown to Wright Field. In 1951, Jacobsen’s source maintains, the crashed vehicle and the two still-surviving deformed children were taken to Area 51 and to the facilities of defense contractor EG&G (now URS Corporation)

This author has identified and located Annie Jacobsen’s anonymous source. I have also decided, after much consideration, to “out” him. In this article I will openly name him. I have also contacted him very recently. He reluctantly spoke with me for some time. I believe that the source was indeed told this bizarre story by officials. But just why this is so will stun readers, and is not for the reasons that you may think.

EG&G’s Scientist Alfred O’Donnell in 1955

Ms. Jacobsen’s source about this Roswell story is unnamed by her in the blockbuster book. He wanted to remain anonymous. Annie Jacobsen kept her promise. I did not learn her source from her or from anyone associated with her publishing company. His identity and his background is revealed here and now:

Alfred O’Donnell is nearly 89 years old and he is one of Annie Jacobsen’s key sources about this Roswell crash story “interpretation.” O’Donnell is indeed exactly who he claims to have been. In the early 1950’s he was at the “Nevada Test Site” where atomic bombs were tested regularly. O’Donnell was indeed part of the nucleus of top management and engineers for EG&G- one of our nation’s top defense contractors. Founded as Edgerton, Germeshausen and Grier (EG&G) the company was acquired by URS Corporation some years ago. URS employs over 50,000 and is the leading designer and builder of federal classified facilities in the United States. They work with military as well as with the Intelligence Community (particularly the NSA) in constructing and operating some of our nation’s most sensitive and secret facilities.

O’Donnell joined EG&G in 1947 when the company employed only 15 people. He worked alongside the company’s founders and obtained Top Secret Clearance to work on our nation’s nuclear arsenal. He helped to develop explosives research protocols and optimized the firing systems of bomb devices. O’Donnell – a Bostonian - is a brilliant man who made significant contributions to EG&G and to our nation’s defense for many years. EG&G – and O’Donnell - had specialized expertise in electronically capturing and measuring the energy that was emitted from DOE nuclear blasts in the remote Nevada desert.

Hi Mr. O’Donnell, my name is Tony Bragalia, a freelance journalist in Florida..How are you doing?

Fine, and who are you again? (I repeat above)

I’m a researcher, including of things like military history and the history of science. I happened to see an online article about an ‘Alfred O’Donnell’ that was from the Review-Journal. It’s called “100 Men Who Shaped Southern Nevada” It discusses your early work at EG&G in the 50s in nuclear blast testing and measurement.

Oh, oh, yes… I do remember that. I recall that very well.

It was written by a “ K.J. Evans”…

Yes, he’s dead now. That article was written some time ago. Some years ago.

It’s found its way onto the Internet so the story is everywhere now, forever…So I do have the right Alfred O’Donnell who was with EG&G in the ‘40s and 1950s?

Yes, that’s me.

Well, of course you must be aware then of the recent bestseller by Annie Jacobsen that is entitled Area 51?

I am. (silence/pause)

You know Annie?

I do know Annie.

Well you said something to Annie Jacobsen about the subject that I’d like to talk with you about…

I don’t talk about my work at Area 51.

Well, EG&G does not seem to be the kind of place that would be reverse engineering a Soviet craft and also doing biological experiments and analysis, there were better places….

What do they know more about all of this than you do?

They don’t. But I’m not saying anything…

Tony, how…how did you find me?

I am a researcher of some of these things. I think sort of like a computer when I am investigating. I googled key words. I happened across the article on you. I knew intuitively that you are Annie’s source, Alfred. And of course you are, so…

Alfred, you must realize that you have an obligation to truth and to history to come forward publicly. This is a much larger issue. It is about having people understand what really happened -if this is what really did- and to not believe in fantasies..things that aren’t scientific or historical truth…

I know…I understand… what you’re saying, Tony.

You know Alfred, I communicated with Dr. Stirling Colgate at Los Alamos recently and he made a recent confession about a UFO hoax that he was aware of from many, many years ago.

Oh…

Colgate is in his 90s and he’s still at Los Alamos. He confirmed to me that the famous Socorro, NM case involving a policeman in 1964 was a hoax by some of his students from New Mexico Tech. But it took him over 40 years to really say something! Colgate took to a real long time to tell the truth. And he still is reluctant…but his allegiance was in the wrong place for too long. It was to his kids at the college!…

(Laughs) So how did you find out about him?

Through a letter that I had found in some archives from Stirling Colgate to his friend Linus Pauling, who had an interest in UFOs I found out. In his reply, Colgate told Pauling the truth that it was a hoax.

Who is that he wrote to?

Linus Pauling.

Oh! Yes…

So my point is that we will all pass. And because of this we all have larger obligations as we get older. As a scientist you must understand this, truth is it. It’s really all that we want have in the end.

Will you leave anything - a document in writing to benefit history and science on all of this before you pass, including your name?

I don’t know. I don’t think so.

I think you must forget about your oaths and clearances. The Soviet threat is no longer. It is more than six decades on Alfred! I sometimes almost get emotional about all of this…doesn’t, does not truth mean anything? Why have our children’s children believe in fantasy, if this is what it was?

I will think about it. I will give it some consideration…

Alfred, have other people called you about this?

I’m not going to say anything at all about that.

Well, people come to very different conclusions that you do on all of this. The Air Force says that it is a Mogul balloon, others say it was a terrestrial secret experiment by German Paperclip scientists…

Yes, I have heard about that one.

Well, I will level with you Alfred. I come down on the side of truth - it was an extraterrestrial vehicle that crashed. And frankly I think that you know this and that you were “played with.”

I am certain that the craft was constructed of materials that were not known to science in 1947. I based this on many things including on my study of the history of Shape Recovery Alloys. They had reported they found “memory metal” at Roswell that was tough and would return back to its original shape. I found that in the months immediately following the crash that Wright Patterson contracted Battelle Memorial Institute to begin work on what we now know as Nitinol. I traced the scientific documents on Shape Memory metals to the incident. When you are reverse engineering, it is always easiest to begin with the ‘materials of construction’ –what is it made of- not the propulsion or navigation systems…

Yes..I follow.

And, Alfred, I will be candid with you: you must come forward. You are a man of science. You have lived for the discovery of truth. Why do you care now? Say what needs to be said. I mean I know you have. But openly. You know Annie is taking a beating on this. I frankly would like to know, as someone who believes in truth and accurate history…you are a man who honors science…you must know what I mean…

Tony, look, I will say this to you: if the Federal Government really wanted to have all of this released, why would they not have already done it themselves?

I don’t know. But you do Alfred. And I do respect your respect for your oath and your security clearances.

If we could get you a release from the Department of Defense to speak of this- of the truth of Roswell- would you then be open to speaking openly?

No. I would not. I just…I just cannot get involved like that.

Oh, one more last thing…

Yes.

Do you think that when URS acquired EG&G a few years back that they also got all of the early scientific and historical records from EG&G? I mean would they even know now? Many of the people there at URS now weren’t yet even born when this happened…

I don’t know. I really have no idea.

Again, Alfred, I have an understanding of the Intelligence Community –IC- and of the Defense communities, so I do understand where you are coming from. Thanks for all of your time, I really do appreciate it very much…

THE STRANGE STORY HE TELLS – AND WHY HE WAS TOLD IT




I found Alfred O’Donnell to be telling the truth as he remembers it – and likely as he himself claims to have witnessed it. He was extremely lucid, deliberate and controlled in his responses to me. Frankly he seemed years and years younger on the phone. Like author Annie Jacobsen, I find O’Donnell to remain a bright and believable person.

However, I do not believe that the “essence” of what he was told was true. O’Donnell says that he viewed a hoaxed UFO by Stalin that was used to scare us - and that used a former Nazi’s eugenics skills to create the aviators. O’Donnell told Jacobsen that they were “grotesque.” O’Donnell also told Jacobsen that he and his other scientist cohorts at EG&G were “prepared” for the sight of them. They were told in advance that “seeing the bodies would be a shocking and disturbing experience.”

But the truth is this: It was all “staged.” O’Donnell was indeed “exposed” to what he says he was- but this “exposure” was planned, it was for a reason - and the accompanying story that he was told was not genuine.

He was told that it was of Soviet origin. But “exotic technology” that has been recovered by military are often studied by using the “subterfuge” or “cover” of being told that they are of “Russian origin.” And this holds especially true for the Roswell crash. There are numerous times when the “Soviets” or the “Russians” were used to describe where such artifacts came from. They were a convenient and ideal “excuse” or reason for the study of such things:

1) When Elroy John Center (the Battelle scientist who confessed to analysis of ET metal debris and who co-authored the first “memory metal report” for Wright Patterson) was told to analyze the unusual “piece”- he was told by his Battelle supervisor that it was recovered in a crash from “the Soviets.” Center knew this not to be true and he believed the material could not have been made by man. (See prior articles on the Battelle-Roswell connection archived on the Iconoclasts site to learn more.)

2) General George Schulgen, in a 1947 secret memo, instructed his officers to be aware of UFO’s and their “Items of Construction.” He indicated that the discs could be of possible Soviet origin. Schulgen was of course using this as a cover. Forthcoming information on Schulgen will show that this top Pentagon Intelligence official of the time knew that the material of which the discs were comprised was not known to science- and were engineered by those from another world.

3) When RAAF Base Commander Butch Blanchard told his wife and daughter Dale of the crash, he kept on repeating to them: “those Russians have some amazing things.” New information from researcher Tom Carey indicates that the exact opposite was true: Blanchard actually believed that it was an ET craft at Roswell, something he related to his second wife and others later in life.

The deepest recesses of Government were testing key personnel at emerging EG&G to see if they could be entrusted with such “remarkable secrets.” Would they say anything to anyone about this made-up Russian-Roswell scenario? They did not (at least not until a half-century later, and then only anonymously.) They could be entrusted with anything. And today the company is rewarded as the largest infrastructure firm to Federal government in the nation.

More importantly this author maintains that:

- Those in Government who knew about Roswell wanted to confuse the ET truth of the event to others with whom they may work by alluding to things “Russian.” It may have even been used as a “code word” of sorts.

- They felt that it was also a perfect way to have studies performed on actual ET crashed disc material by private contractors. Tell them these strange things were Russian. Fold the research into existing defense related technology research.

- They wanted to see if organizations that they would bring into the fold would keep such a pretend ‘Secret.’ And point to the Russians, feared and hated.

- They would occasionally and selectively “test” individuals within government (and its contractor community) to measure the “reactions” and coping skills of learned men when exposed to such bizarre things

- They “orchestrated” cover stories on Roswell to purposely confuse and obfuscate the issue. They sought to blur the ET truth of Roswell with layers of plausible deniability. They officially issued (and in other ways spread) many possible “real reasons” for the Roswell crash. In this way the actual extraterrestrial nature of the Roswell event will become “muddled.”

O’Donnell was shown an American-hoaxed UFO and “aliens” for one (or some) these reasons. But it was not a “Soviet” thing that he saw. That he saw these things is likely true… but the associated story that he was told about their origin was not.

The most telling reason that this is so is this: The story told to O’Donnell those many years ago –in historical hindsight- is ludicrous on the face of it. I will not detail those reasons. Many others (including the New York Times) have pointed out the many “holes” found like Swiss cheese within the story. These include fundamental logistical, technological and historical issues associated with the cover tale told O’Donnell.

And there is this clue: O’Donnell told Jacobsen that “Cyrillic writing” found around a rim area in the craft had led he and his EG&G associates to confirm that the craft was of Soviet origin, so that the story that they were told by their superiors made complete sense.

However, the fact is that the Russians would never have made such alleged “hoax overflights” of the US using anything like “Cyrillic writing” that would reveal the craft’s true Soviet origin. It would defeat the entire purpose of having our people believe that we were being invaded by “aliens” as O’Donnell maintains, like “Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds”- and so O’Donnell should never have found such writing.

It was, rather, placed there by US military intelligence to encourage the belief that it was Russian. And O’Donnell was just 29 in 1951 when he states that he saw all of this at EG&G at Area 51. He was impressionably young, as were his EG&G colleagues. They would go on in their defense contracting careers believing all the while (and repeating late in life) the lie that they had been made to believe that these things were “Russian.” How very “Cold War-ish.”

But given the context of the timeframe of the late 1940s and early 1950s (and the fear of Russians, with “War of the Worlds” having aired only 10 years prior) it is easy to understand why O’Donnell and his EG&G colleagues “bought in” to this scenario fed them. Given the “tenor of the times” and the initiation of the Cold War, anything related to the devious Soviets could be believed at that time.

And, tellingly, the “Russian” explanation that had been told by these EG&G retirees reminds one of the famous Kecksburg, PA UFO case of 1965. Some in Government offered the (now discredited) explanation that this crash incident was resultant from a Russian launch as well. That one though was explained away as the crash of an advanced Soviet satellite. Always the Russians…

The story is strange. And the reasons that I have offered that I “believe” the old scientist may seem even stranger to some. I have more to report on this and I hope to release other findings soon…

Roswell is an onion. We continue to peel away at its layers. But it still stinks and dizzies with the stench of disinformation, even after decades.

Edgar Mitchell, Former Astronaut, Sued By NASA For Trying To Sell Apollo Camera

The space shuttle isn't the only old piece of NASA equipment that's making headlines. The space agency has filed suit against Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell in an attempt to reclaim a 40-year-old camera.

A federal lawsuit filed Wednesday in Miami claims that Mitchell, the lunar module pilot and sixth man to walk on the moon, illegally tried to auction off a camera he used during his 1971 lunar mission.

"Defendant Edgar Mitchell is a former NASA employee who is exercising improper dominion and control over a NASA Data Acquisition Camera," NASA alleged in court documents obtained by The Palm Beach Post.

Not so, says Mitchell.

"The thing had been sitting in my safe for 40 years -- I got it right after the mission," Mitchell told AOL.

The camera in question, used to photograph a variety of aspects of the Apollo 14 mission, was estimated to have been worth between $60,000 and $80,000 by Bonhams auction house.

According to the lawsuit, any equipment used on board Apollo missions remains the property of NASA and the space agency had no record of giving the camera to Mitchell.

The astronaut disagrees.

"The lunar modules didn't come back from the moon and everything in them -- all the equipment -- was considered government throwaways and it was deliberately crashed into the moon to ring seismometers that we set up to get data from inside the moon. However, we had an agreement with NASA management at that point that little things, like the cameras, could be kept," said Mitchell, a trained engineer and scientist and author of "The Way of the Explorer," who founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences in 1973. "That was standard practice and it was approved by NASA as incentive stuff."

He says that until he put the camera up for auction with the intention of raising cash for his research organization, Quantrek, the government never asked him to return it.

Mitchell Using Camera on the Moon

"I thought the extra money from that would help," he said.

Mitchell believes at some point in between the Apollo and space shuttle programs, NASA regulations were modified.

"Apparently, they changed the rules after I left NASA's service. Since the shuttle was a reusable spacecraft, it didn't include throwaway material, like we had in the lunar module. So, they quit allowing crew members to take stuff from the flight."

Why does Mitchell think the government even cares if he sells the camera?

"Because they want it back," he explained. "I consider it my property. Once we were given it, it's our property and we could do with it what we please, and that's what we're going to have to show in court."

The threat of a lawsuit from the federal government reportedly convinced the auction house to remove the camera from a recent sale.

"It's a fiasco and so unnecessary," said Mitchell. "We thought this was all resolved a long time ago and we were clearly not doing anything outside the rules, and all the things given to us were presented as incentive gifts and thank-yous for serving on the mission. And I've got several items all given to me by NASA when I served on different missions."

While Mitchell hasn't even officially been served with legal papers yet, he's feeling pretty confident about the outcome of the case.

Unidentified Aerial Phenomena sightings were reported over Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Washington. Sightings of UFOs were also reported in Australia, Canada, Columbia, Ireland, Mexico, Russia, and the United Kingdom.

The purpose of these files is to report the UFO eyewitness and photo/video evidence that occurs on a daily basis around the world and in space. These Files assume that extraterrestrial intelligent life not only exists, but my hypothesis is that the over a thousand UFOs reported each month represent technologically advanced spacecraft conducting surveillance of Earth. I personally became interested in UFOs when London Control ordered me to intercept one over England while flying for the US Air Force. Under Project Blue Book, the US Air Force investigated UFOs for more than twenty years; and we continue this research. I believe the God of the universe has spread life throughout the cosmos and UFO's are visiting us in ever-increasing numbers.

Gold-mine worm called nematode shows life could be living on Mars

If complex life forms are able to survive inside cracks deep inside Earth, it raises the possibility that they might have survived undetected in similar environments on Mars.

Carl Pilcher , director of NASA's Astrobiology Institute in Moffett Field, California, points out that Tullis Onstott has previously discovered a bacterium living 2.8 kilometers underground, completely isolated from all other ecosystems on Earth ( Science , DOI: 10.1126/science.1127376 ). The bug gets its energy from the radioactive decay of elements in the surrounding rocks. "The significance was that you could imagine an ecosystem existing in the subsurface of a planet that didn't have a photosynthetic biosphere, like Mars," he says.

Until now, it was thought such an ecosystem could be made of bacteria only. But Tullis Onstott's new findings have completely changed that. "It has extended the [earlier] work to an animal," says Pilcher.

"These nematodes are grazing on microbes. So now you could imagine that if animal life had ever developed on a planet, and the surface of that planet became lifeless," Pilcher explains, "you could imagine that animals [small enough to fit in tiny cracks] could coexist with microbial ecosystems all powered by radioactivity." Due to the expense and contamination associated with coring from the surface, few microbial rock and water samples have been collected from depths greater than 0.5 kilometers. These few samples, nevertheless have demonstrated that microbial communities do exist in a variety of subsurface rocks and sediments down to 2.8 kilometers below the surface

Mars Structures, Water, and Food

Norman Bryden writes, "Located in the circled area of this Mars Global Surveyor image is what appears to be a twin-columned tower straddling an overpass for some kind of travel system. Some of the road-like or tube structures seem to be elevated. Please observe other building-like structures along the sides and in the corners of the crossroads and intersections. In various images probable road or travel systems show a coloration of segmentation. This could suggest the roads and tube systems are in use, as we see the same type of segmentation in images of our modern roads and highways. Opportunity Rover Finds Strong Evidence Meridiani Planum Was Wet

On March 2, 2004 JPL scientists announced the part of Mars that NASA's Opportunity rover is exploring was soaking wet in the past as we have predicted for several years. The rover found evidence in a rock outcrop and the presence of sulfates, and niches where crystals grew. The scientists are convinced that liquid water once flowed through these rocks. It changed their texture, and it changed their chemistry," said Dr. Steve Squyres of Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, principal investigator for the science instruments on Opportunity and its twin, Spirit. "NASA launched the Mars Exploration Rover mission specifically to check for water and an environment that could possibly have been hospitable to life. Today we have strong evidence for an exciting answer:

Mars -- Evidence of Geysers and Flowing Water

Sir Charles W. Shults III reports, "Data from Opportunity, Sol 183 shows a typical Martian geyser or periodic spring." The only image data there is to work with is from L2, L5, and R1. This is a left infrared image, a left green, and a right violet. I have been able to assemble the following false color image that is merely an approximation. The top left of the stone slab shows a deep depressed slot outlining the stone. The sand around it is extremely clean and all debris is missing from the area. This is one of the signs of sand that has been washed and then vacuum dried.

The water emerged, sluiced through the sand, some ran back down into the slot, and the thin air vacuum dried the sand. By contrast, to the upper right we can see where the spherules have gone. They have washed over to the other side of the slab. Notice how concentrated they are. In this magnified view, we see the slot which is like a periodic spring and the results of water flow. Notice how the sand is "cleaned" and has no spherules or small particles. All the small particles have been washed over to the upper right area of the image. The spherules have also been sorted by water flow and are much denser in the right of the image. Notice the rippled character of the sand inside the slot itself. Mars Blueberries May Be Vegetation

Dr. Annamarie Johnstone writes, "The blue berries in the Opportunity Rover image may be fruticose type rock lichens (symbiotic plants composed of fungi and algae.) Forming a mutualistic relationship, the dense skin of the fungus protects the interior algal cells from desiccation, in turn, the photosynthetic algae, using sunlight, and produce food for the fungus. Lichens are brightly colored pioneer plants in an ecosystem, capable of "shutting down" metabolically, when subjected to unfavorable environmental conditions. As a result, they are able to survive extreme heat, cold and drought.

Lichens grow only when moisture is available, so the amount of moisture governs their rate of growth. Composed mainly of carbohydrates with a small percentage of protein, rock lichen species can be a food source for animals, man, and perhaps Martians. The frigid community is made up mostly of primitive creatures called Cyanobacteria, which live in tightly-woven groups called microbial mats. The microbes produce chemicals that act as anti-freeze and UV shields, protecting them from frigid temperatures and from sunlight. I remain convinced that the Mars "Blueberries" are fossilized Cyanobacteria (also known as blue green algae) in an inclusion layer of mineralized sediment that can be sectioned and observed. Ancient Carolina, South Africa Gold Mining Cities 200,000 years old

Over the past 20 years, people like Cyril Hromnik, Richard Wade, and a handful of others have discovered that these stone structures are not what the seem to be. In fact these are now believed to be the remains of ancient temples and astronomical observatories of lost ancient civilizations that stretch back for many thousands of years located near 25 55' 53.28" S / 30 16' 13.13" E

These circular ruins are spread over a huge area. They can only truly be appreciated from the air or through modern satellite images. Many of them have almost completely eroded or have been covered by the movement of soil from farming and the weather. Some have survived well enough to reveal their great size with some original walls standing almost 5 feet high and over a meter wide in places.

Looking at the entire metropolis, it becomes obvious that this was a well planned community, developed by a highly evolved civilization. There are numerous ancient gold mines suggesting the reason for the community being in this location. Robert Hastings: Unidentified Aerial Object Sighted During October 2010 Nuclear Missile Incident

TAOS -- Robert Hastings writes, "On October 23, 2010, F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming temporarily lost the ability to communicate with 50 of its Minuteman III missiles. The five Missile Alert Facilities responsible for launching those ICBMs—Alpha through Echo, comprising the 319th Strategic Missile Squadron—would have been unable to do so during the period of the disruption.

This dramatic story was leaked to Mark Ambinder, a contributing editor at The Atlantic, which published it three days later. The U.S. Air Force then quickly acknowledged the problem, saying that a back-up launch system could have performed the task and claiming that the breakdown had lasted a mere 59 minutes.

The confidential Air Force sources also report that their squadron commander has warned witnesses not to talk to journalists or researchers about "the things they may or may not have seen" in the sky and has threatened severe penalties for anyone violating security. Consequently, these persons must remain anonymous at this time

According to two missile technicians stationed at F.E. Warren, the communications issue, while intermittent, actually persisted over several hours. Significantly, these same individuals report sightings by "numerous teams" of an enormous, cigar-shaped craft that maneuvered high above the missile field on the day of the disruption. The huge UFO appeared similar to a World War I German Zeppelin, (shown here) but had no passenger gondola or advertising on its hull, as would a commercial blimp.

It woke me from my sleep and, lasted about 40 seconds, on my way to anchorage you could see the cracks in the highway. I believe the ground has been moving a bit up here. Arizona Fifteen Objects and Light Swiggle

GLENDALE -- On June 11 2011, I was outside with my nephews playing football when my cousin looked up and said, "What is that? There were 14 to 15 objects in the sky so my nephew ran inside and got my camera. Soon after that I took a few pictures. They slowly moved all together but one that stayed right over above for about 15 minutes some say balloons some say ufo you be the judge. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Sedona -- I brought my Canon 5D Mark II 21.1 Megapixel Camera and tripod to do some photography of the stars. One setting allowed longer exposures to get better light into the camera. The temperature is about 25 degrees Fahrenheit. We didn't notice the object until we got home and uploaded it to my Mac. A friend noticed the objects. I lost sight of object when I turned the camera and continued fishing, towards north towards the Sedona Airport.

I noticed the "star" like object that moved in 3 different frames, all time delayed 6 seconds. No other stars or the Airplane even look like this. Thanks to MUFON CMS

California Sphere

Woodside -- I am a delivery driver in the Bay Area. After completing a deliver y on June 24, 2011, I was on Woodside Road when I saw a cluster of silver or blackish sphere/circular objects. I pulled into the parking lot of Karakade Thai Cuisine and these objects were hovering in formation for several minutes. At first, they were headed towards me but headed back north to Redwood City where they were coming from.

As I watched and tried to record one of the balls it flew semi-low reflecting red light from the sun looking like the ball of a sheet flapping in the air. It was a solid object but it looked like it had waves in it. It was not a balloon. The reflections were intense and many disappeared over time. The final three were lined up in an "Orion's belt" shape across the sky, and then faded to white lights. Only one out of 20 objects showed up in one photo. Colorado Air Traffic Controller Reports a UFO

TIMNATH -- Three circular, translucent craft in triangle formation were observed moving west for a period of 15 seconds on May 26, 2011. I was standing outside when I saw what appeared to be a faint shooting star moving toward me at high speed maintaining a constant altitude with no sound. As an air traffic controller, I've spent twenty years observing aircraft and they passed directly overhead at 8,000 feet and 1500 knots. The three circular craft were in a perfect triangle formation, and made absolutely despite their fast speed and passing directly overhead.

They were translucent, and displayed the night sky on the bottom of the craft. The only reason I saw the craft is because they were glowing orange due to their speed and proximity to the ground. They had no lights of any kind typical to other aircraft. I watched them approach from the east, pass overhead, and head west. I believe it was three separate craft. Florida Diamond

BOCA RATON -- I was with my boss and his wife when I saw a diamond shaped object heading west after sundown on Saturday, June 18, 2011. The object had what appeared to be a flame emitting from the center but it made no noise. I could only make out the shape of the outline due to the shimmering from the center. It appeared to be descending possibly due to damage to the craft, hence the fire. We were directly east of the Florida Everglades so the object headed into a sparsely populated area. Crystal Lake -- On June 22, 2011, I was on my morning bike ride around 7:30 AM, and I stopped to take a break, before I turned to go back home. I noticed the sun looked inspirational peeking thru the clouds so I took a picture. When I came home I opened the picture to show my wife how pretty the sun was. It was then I noticed this oval amber light.

Greenwood -- On June 21, 2011, around 11 PM, I went into my back yard to have a smoke and noticed a strange light moving north. It kept getting bigger and brighter and pulsed in shades of orange. I knew something was extremely odd, so I ran and got my camcorder and started filming. I zoomed in as close as I could go and then I realized this thing was not right. It had what looked like circular swirl marks in or on it and they would change and then it just vanished. The object was filmed with a Sony Handy cam Dcr-Sr68 over a farm field. Kansas Fat Missile

TOPEKA -- My wife and I were outside standing on the porch on June 22, 2011,, when I noticed from the southeast a strange shining object. I said to my wife would you look at this it's weird. There's no sound at all and no contrails like a plane, I think it's a UFO. She tried to take a picture with her camera phone, but couldn't get it in frame. My neighbors were trying to figure out what we were seeing right in front of us in broad daylight!! It was moving pretty slow so m y neighbor went in her home and retrieved her binoculars. It was shaped like a short fat missile with 2 large circular lights beneath it. We watched it travel from east to west until it was no longer visible. About five minutes later it returned heading from the east to west. On June 23, 2011, about 3:10 PM we witness three or more military choppers flying the same direction as if they were tracking something in the air. They flew back and forth for about 45 minutes. Kentucky Disc

Berea -- We were having severe storm warnings all day on June 23, 2011. That evening the clouds begin to break up and there were some beautiful cumulus clouds behind the house with the sun's rays shining through the clouds. So I decided to get my camera and take some pictures. These pictures were taken within 1 minute and 30 seconds. When I went back into the house and down loaded the pictures onto my computer I notice there were some objects in several pictures. One object was disc shape and the other was shape like a cigar/ cylinder shape. Thanks to MUFON CMS

The big ship was the size of a football field long and half a football field wide and there all difference like of light under the ship. In the middle the ship there was like a window that goes all around it. I look like to me hovered over the trees cross the country road that is. I can tell you more if you like to know more. Maine Green Glowing Flying Tad Pole

Caribou -- I just got off of work on June 23, 2011, at 12:38 AM, and was heading north on Route 1 towards Van Buren when I saw green objects that lasted maybe three seconds. I had a green tail/middle with a white tip at the head. It looked almost like a glowing flying tad pole that lasted three seconds and vanished. This wasn't a planet, plane or helicopter. I considered maybe a shooting star. This was short, fat and didn't leave any type of trail behind as they do in the photos. I'm lucky I was able to view this as it happened so fast. In 41 years I have never seen something like this while driving. It was dark green and glowing at the end and the middle. This happened so fast I wouldn't have been able to take a photo. New Jersey Gigantic UFOs Triangle

Glassboro -- This is Lewis B, "I saw something for five minutes on Monday June 20, 2011, about 7:45 pm. I was at work as the sun was about to set under the large awning of the store I work at. I noticed first a "glare" in the sky ... from the angle I saw it, it could have been between anywhere from southwest Philadelphia to maybe West Deptford, NJ. At first the setting sun was gleaming off it, I went out to look they were in a triangular form ... it was significant in size for the area ... they were dull in color ... but VERY visible ... Three dark grey to silver, circular, "balls" ... just sitting in front of the grey cloud ... in the form of a perfect triangle ... I couldn't see if there was mass in between the shapes ... but it was definitely there ... by the time I got to my car to take pictures, it was down to one again and was gone before I could get the camera on ... as the grayish balls disappeared, so did the cloud cover ... Twin Rivers -- It's 12:46 am, on June 22, 2011, my name is Pete Hilker, and I just saw the most gigantic thing in the sky I have ever seen. I was driving home from Route 33 in Twin Rivers and I started seeing a light through the trees that I thought was the moon because of its size. As I got closer and to a treeless section, I saw this gigantic object that was four lights across. I really couldn't make out the shape but it was huge. It had two lights in front that were lighting the front of it. I was terrified; I had an ominous feeling, that there was a car behind me. I just saw it like thirty minutes ago I didn't snap a picture because of my fear and raced to my house. I opened my garage door with the clicker to see the craft pass right over the top of my house. I saw the bottom of the craft had a red blinking light. I couldn't see the shape, but it was flat and had four lights in a line. Like o O O o and the O were like the bright headlight type lights. East Windsor -- On June 22, 2011, I'll start by saying I was coming from the Shell Gas Station on Route 33 in Twin Rivers, and started driving for my road. I can see the moon light through the trees in the eastern skies. I was listening to the ESPN radio and in an open area I can see it. It was gigantic. It was at the height of when you see a low flying plane. It was four lights across in a row about the size of half a football field. The two in the middle were very bright almost like it's headlights but the light was very diffused.

The craft was going NW and moving incredibly slow. I really couldn't tell its shape, because the lights were like so bright. They were very close bright headlights and I couldn't make out the object behind them. I have never seen an airplane creep along in the sky so slow and so damn huge. New Mexico Photo Analysis

AlbuquerquE --Don Burleson, State Director New Mexico writes, "Hi, George-- Attached is an enhancement I did (just some cropping and re-contrasting) on a photo submitted recently, taken of a sunset in Albuquerque, (witness name Bill Hawley, not asking anonymity) and showing what seems to be an object in the upper glow of the sun, not noticed by the photographer at the time. There appears to be the same sort of "aura" around the object as around the setting sun itself, which seems more likely for a solid object than for, say, a tuft of cloud. New York Silver Egg Boomerang

NEW YORK CITY -- I was walking home from Soho on June 26, 2011, and saw a silver egg shaped object while traversing Bowery Street. I pointed it out to my friend and it changed colors and went behind a building. We stopped and waited for it to fly past the building and when it emerged it was a black boomerang shape approximately 1cm in length to the naked eye from where we were standing. Two elderly men also saw the UFO and we were staring at it for about five minutes. It just stayed in the sky at the same spot so it couldn't have been a weather balloon, then it slowly changed back into a cigar shape and then into a small egg shape. It was still for another five minutes, we began walking back downtown and never took our eyes off it, but then it started getting smaller and smaller. Then there was an airplane that flew past, but when the airplane got close the UFO just disappeared. Thanks to MUFON CMS

North Dakota Tear Drop

I was driving from Fargo to Bismarck, and around the western edge of Stutsman County I saw something egg or tear dropped shaped going straight down. It came from the very top of my windshield and disappeared into some clouds so was only visible for a few minutes, but more than enough time to see that it was something I have never seen before. I was on the phone with a friend while this was happening and they suggested taking a picture, but because it was so small and white looking compared to the blue of the sky, I figured my phone camera wouldn't work. My windshield also had bug splatters, but what I saw was definitely not bug debris. It was white in appearance, like what you see when a jet goes overhead, though this was much larger. Ohio Object Engulfed in Light

Cleveland -- I live near Hopkins Airport and see planes take off and land from my chair. At around 9:30 PM, on June 24, 2011, I noticed a bright light heading my way from south to north. It moved in a straight line until it reached the southwest end of the airport, then went northeast over the airport. I watched it until it was just a dot. At first I thought it was a plane until it got closer and looked at it clear as day to be engulfed in light, or ablaze. It looked as though it was checking out the airport. After getting up to look at this thing, I didn't know what think about what I just saw. About ten minutes later, here it comes again, from the same direction and flight path, except this time there happened to be a plane just taking off from CLE. The pilot had to have seen this. The object then followed the same flight path as the first time. That evening there was a lower cloud deck. It also seemed the object was flying just under that cloud deck. Oregon Odd Cloud

Albany -- On June 21, 2011, at 2:26 PM, my friend's wife called him east of I-5 on Highway 20. She told my friend to check out the odd cloud formations just to the south. At 2:26 PM he took this picture with his cell phone. It is interesting to see the apparent discoloration and turbulence in the cloud near the object.

Note: It is difficult to do much analysis on the photo because the cell phone photos are of low resolution. However, zooming in reveals a circular object, not a bird but I don't know what they would be? The "RAINBOW" effect is most likely to be a reflection of sunlight in primary wavelengths. Tennessee Triangle of Lights

MEMPHIS -- It was about twelve midnight, on June 23, 2011, I was driving east, when I noticed two bright lights in the distance off to the North. They appeared as though they were stationary, so I thought they must be helicopters or possibly stars. I didn't think anything of it at first, but I noticed one of the lights was slowly getting closer. As it gradually came nearer I noticed it was a cluster of lights. The object appeared to have three distinct lights on three corners of the vehicle. It appeared to have red lights and faint pulsating dim lights on the underbelly. I wanted to believe it was an airplane, but it moved like no other vehicle I have seen before. The object appeared to be extremely low for an airplane, and it was completely silent.

Washington Sightings

Chehalis -- On December 31, 2010, at 11:55, three adults, two children and I were outside getting ready to light fireworks and we all saw the objects hovering for about two minutes. They took off one by one towards the southwest. I apologize about the picture. It was taken with a cell phone.

Marysville -- Weather conditions were low overcast with cloud heights varying between 300 and 900 feet on June 18, 2011, about10:15 PM. Winds were light and variable and visibility was 8 miles and. The witness reports seeing a huge Mothership flying low joined by smaller UFOs.

The witness's observation that the dark object (Mother Ship) was the size of aircraft carrier is probably accurate considering how close he was to the object. This is the first report that our organization has ever received of UFOs that later joined a larger object. Many of these type of sightings occurred in the 1940s and 50s. Kimberley -- My name is Sandra Hill and I live in Western Australia and took this picture from the cabin window of the Kimberley Quest 2 early morning on June 6, 2011, when we were cruising along the Kimberley coast of Western Australia. Going through my photos on Iphoto, I thought it was odd that six pictures had this weird cloud formation that seemed to just dissipate.

Then something in the clouds to the left of the centre caught my eye... There's no denying what that is!! It's behind the clouds and it's there. The cabin lights were off and the camera was up flush with the window to be able to get the shot in. A long time professional art photographer said it was not a reflection and that the water drop stains on the window confirms that the lens of the camera had to be very close to the window pane to be able to see them on the shot which means that it was too close and the outside light too strong to be able to capture any reflection from the interior of the cabin. There is something there.

Vancouver, BC -- My digital camera indicates the image was taken September 14, 2010, at 5:56 PM. It is not the first time I have seen odd unidentified objects in BC, but this is the first time I just happen to be shooting pictures and a shiny object caught my eye in the camera and was able to take pictures.

Note: The witness sent multiple photos. Several of the photos show the object highlighted. The date and time listed would only be correct if the date and time were correctly set on the camera. Ireland Zipping White Light

Bray, Wicklow -- Ian states, "I stepped outside to the back garden for a cigarette at about 11:30 PM, on June 23, 2011. From the south I spotted a brilliant white light zipping across the sky at a remarkable pace. I have never seen a plane in the far off distance cover this much ground so quickly. I managed to view it for a few seconds through my binoculars it seemed to be almost bullet like in shape. It vanished after about 1 minute as it had gone so high up into the sky it was literally impossible to see anymore. About thirty seconds after I had lost sight of this I spotted another object coming from the south over some houses and it then arced off towards the west. This one wasn't moving very quickly, just slowly across the sky with an altitude that never seemed to change. We saw the objects two nights in a row. On June 22, I also spotted a brilliant white object flying east a couple of hundred feet from the ground. The ISS would have been possibly in view much earlier. Thanks to www.uk-ufo.co.uk

Russia Alien Invasion Alleged

Alexandra Bruce comments that there claims that there are rumors that Russia is preparing to surprise the whole world with the announcement of an "alien invasion."

Some Russian commentators say that this could be a UFO that crashed near the Siberian town of Irkutsk. Others say it's a hoax. There's a lot disinformation on the Internet coming out of Russia. I don't know what to make of this footage but it is definitely an interesting shot! Uploaded by FlorykT

3.30 PM, I was in my garden when I happened to look up and saw a fast moving jet black object. I can only describe it has looking like a small version of a stealth bomber. Hornchurch, Upminster Bridge -- On June 22, 2011, a huge white light came over our house heading northeast at 11 PM. When it was above me at least seven red flashing objects appeared and were triangle shaped with a white light in each corner. They were under the cloud and made no noise moving very fast. These objects were so fast I'm pretty sure it's not a plane. It was moving at very tight angles. The big white light faded to nothing but the others were around for a few hours. The cameraman claims, "It—took over a week to get it but finally managed to get these critters on camera on a clear day, and even get a close-up, the video's accompanying explanation outlines. "It seems to be attracting quite a crowd now when they appear.

Whitefield Manchester -- I was walking my dog with my three year old son in the local park on May 31, 2011, on a very clear warm sunny evening with a few clouds and blue sky. I sat down on the grass with my son and took some photos with my Blackberry. I didn't notice anything in the sky and heard no sound but looking at the pictures I noticed a strange object and upon zooming in on the pic i noticed the strange cloud formation like a triangle and an arrow shape. Generally, “photographs” that accompany said reports that have been reproduced from microfilm, as one might imagine–are not the best in quality; accordingly, this one was a pleasant surprise. Additionally, and with great perplexity, there was "no accompanying report." I thought perhaps it got separated; however in doing a thorough database search, I came up empty. This morning, I searched alternate databases and still nothing. The only attribution was a preceding page and it read: File 11683 4-16-1967 Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico 1 Photo It can “only be speculation,” since we have only the photograph to go by; however, it would appear that it was an airborne shot, presumably taken from a plane. One has to wonder if the shot was taken by military personnel–given the Ramey AFB provenance. Because the pic was so pristine, it evoked the memory of another like photo, this one taken over Roswell, New Mexico shortly before the Lonnie Zamora sighting (also from the BB Files). Folks, Read All About It [In MIJI]!

http://thebiggeststudy.blogspot.com/2009/09/air-force-admits-again-that-ufos-are.html The Air Force Admits Again That UFOs Are Real and Nobody's Listening Admittedly it takes a lot of "listening" in the right places, but the military has regularly placed into their formal documents the admission that it knows perfectly well that the phenomenon of unidentified flying objects is real. This instance, however, is spectacular on both the level of the phenomenon observed and on the level of the clarity of the admissions. -------------------------------------------------------The incident took place over Tehran, Iran on September 19, 1976. This was seven years after the close of the UFO project, Blue Book, and the alleged ending of any interest in the UFO topic by the military. That evening, several citizens had called the local airport to report unusual lights in the sky. The supervisor ultimately went out and saw the object himself. [All this which will be reported here is, by the way, directly from documents released by the Defense Intelligence Agency in agreement with the National Security Agency (NSA) ]. After watching the "rectangular" object [with a small red light seemingly circling around it] for an hour, he finally decided to call the nearby airbase. The Commanding Officer of the Iranian Air Force Command sent up an F-4 Phantom jet. The pilot spotted the bogey easily and set to intercept. Once he was within 29 miles, his instrumentation [including communications] cut out.He abandoned the mission and headed back to base. The CO sent up another jet. There was again immediate visual perception and a radar lock-on. The object was judged to be the size of a Boeing tanker aircraft. It was extremely brilliant with colors flashing blue, green, orange, red in rapid sequence. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------Then the thing did something that the pilot evaluated as hostile. It "emitted" a small red object which flew directly at the F-4. The pilot began to arm and fire at the "missile". At that moment his whole control panel and his communications died. He initiated a violent evasive turn and flew off. The small object returned to the big cylinder, which then emitted another, which flew downward and seemed to land. The F-4 regained instrument function once it had gotten a certain distance away from the big object. The pilot watched the action from a safe distance before returning to base. What he saw he interpreted as a set of light signals which seemed coordinated between the the landed object and the big cylinder. During daylight hours an inspection of the area of the possible landing showed no ground traces. -----------------------------------------------This report leaked through Iranian Air Force sources, or we'd probably never have gotten it. Once "out" however, the retrieval of documents by FOIA or other requests [for instance through Congressmen] gets a little more likely. Ultimately the DIA/NSA decided to release the documents which confirmed everything. In those documents were phrases like "outstanding report", "case is a classic", "meets all the criteria for a valid study of the UFO phenomenon"...I kid you not. The document on the right was an added surprise. The NSA had given the case reports to one of their operatives [also an Air Force officer] to include in the classified "Secret" intelligence magazine, MIJI Quarterly. They apparently had decided that cases like this needed to be known by operatives in the field who were charged with dealing with problems of "electronic countermeasures" such as jamming, signal confusion, instrument interference, etc. Captain Shields tells the whole tale. But what is of greater interest is the casual admission written just below the title: "Sometime in his career, each pilot can expect to encounter strange, unusual happenings which will never be adequately or entirely explained by logic or subsequent investigation. The following article recounts just such an episode as reported by two F-4 Phantom crews of the Imperial Iranian Air Force during late 1976. No additional information or explanation of the strange events has been forthcoming: the story will probably be filed away and probably forgotten, but it makes interesting, and possibly disturbing, reading." Well, don't say we UFOlogists didn't tell you so. "Each pilot" can expect something like this sooner or later. But we'll just file it away and forget it, because, well, what else can we do? The intelligence community STILL believes that the citizenry "can't handle the Truth". How about you? http://www.brumac.8k.com/BennettBookReview/BennettBookReview.htm REVIEW OF REVIEW OF FLYING SAUCERS OVER THE WHITE HOUSE The Inside Story of Captain Edward J Ruppelt and His Official U.S. Air Force Investigation of UFOs  By Colin Bennett Cosimo Books 2010  Colin Bennett’s new book is a worthy addition to the burgeoning literature about UFOs. It is particularly welcome at the present time because it covers a portion of UFO history that many people who are newly interested in the subject are not familiar with. Indeed, if one looks superficially at the mass of presently available literature one might get the impression that the history of the subject consists of a few sightings and the Roswell crash (of something!) and moved immediately into abduction phenomenon. Bennett’s book shows that there was a lot more going on and helps to fill in the gap between Roswell and abduction reports.  Besides presenting a discourse on what might be called the philosophy of and problems with investigation of the paranormal, with an emphasis on UFOs, the book presents the history of one man’s introduction to and immersion in the schizophrenic, even chaotic, approach the Air Force took to the problem of “flying saucer” sightings. The Air Force was handed this sighting problem soon after pilot Kenneth Arnold saw and reported disclike objects flying past Mt. Rainier at much more than the speed of sound. Arnold’s report was widely publicized as were a number or other similar reports in late June and early July, 1947. The Air Force denied responsibility, not only to the general public through the newspapers but also to the FBI in private communications. Air Force Intelligence investigated as reports continued to be made during the summer of 1947 and at the end of the year the Air Force set up an investigation effort, “Project Sign,’ to find the cause of these reports. Project Sign lasted about a year and was replaced with Project Grudge. During this time Air Force Intelligence analysts discovered that there were sightings they could not explain so they essentially “covered up” these sightings with the mass of other sightings that they thought they could explain. For example, for public consumption they might say they could explain 90% of the sightings, therefore it is probable that with a little more information they could explain them all.  By the time Ruppelt became involved, in 1951, the public policy of the AF toward such sightings was that no AF flying device was responsible for sightings, that all sightings were probably explainable as misidentifications of known objects or phenomena, hoaxes of delusions and that they were not a threat to the United State. It is no wonder, then, that when Ruppelt was introduced to the subject, in early 1951, soon after he was stationed at Wright Field (later Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio), at the Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC), he was surprised to learn that at least some of the men at ATIC did not believe that all cases could be explained. Some of these intelligence analysts, while seemingly happy to treat sightings with disinterest and willing to poke fun at saucer reports during general multi-person discussions, actually treated the reports seriously in private conversations with Ruppelt. This “schizophrenic” situation was a result of the “higher ups” who were anti-saucer and thus one did not advance one’s career by being pro-saucer.  Bennett discusses how Ruppelt must have felt when confronted by this contradictory behavior of his compatriots in ATIC. Then he became more than just a casual observer in the late fall of 1951 when he was appointed to run the investigations project known then as Project Grudge. This came about after a meeting of the ATIC staff with their boss, General Charles Cabell, in early October, 1951. This meeting was convened by the general because of sightings that occurred during the 10th and 11th of September that involved radar tracking by personnel of the Fort Monmouth Army Radar School in New Jersey as well as visual sightings by Air Force pilots. The general was irked by the fact that he was not immediately informed by the Grudge staff about these important sightings. Instead, he learned about these important sightings from a newspaper story about two weeks after they occurred. As soon as he learned of them he ordered the Grudge staff to report to him the results of their analysis. Cabell had been told that Grudge was working smoothly to analyze and, if possible, to explain all sightings so, naturally, he expected that Grudge staff could tell him about the details of the sighting and the nature of what had been tracked on radar and seen by pilots. Instead, during the meeting he was told that Grudge was a mess and sightings were being treated like comedian Rodney Dangerfield who became famous for complaining “I get no respect.” This angered Cabell greatly and he complained that he had been “lied to” by the underlings who had told him that all sightings were being treated seriously. Cabell complained that the so-called “Grudge Report” published in late 1949 was a piece of “worthless tripe,” meaning that he could see through the poor reasoning and verbal obfuscation that make up that report. Cabell ordered the Grudge staff to revitalize the project because he wanted an answer, “a good answer” to the UFO mystery.  Bennett points out that this was probably a futile hope by Cabell. ATIC was set up to study foreign technology that would represent the state of the art in known science and technology, not to investigate something so far removed from presently known physics as to appear as “magic” (a la Arthur C. Clark). Thus the probable reason the sightings were treated so poorly was that, when you get to the bottom of it, “no one knew exactly what he or she was looking for in the first place.” In other words, whereas a competent scientist or research group might be able to make some sense out of this seemingly nonsensical, “liminal” phenomenon of flying saucer/UFO sightings, “the insular collective brain of the Air Force did not have the intellectual capacity to analyze the UFO situation.” General Cabell left his mark on UFO history by appointing the lead character in this play on science known as ufology by naming Ruppelt to replace a retiring staff member and thereby revitalize Project Grudge. The Cabell bowed out some weeks later as General John Samford became Director of Air Force Intelligence. This may have been a smart move on Cabell’s part, considering what was to come. Had he known what was coming he could have departed the UFO scene while uttering the famous phrase of Louis Quinze (Louis XV) of France, “Apres moi, le deluge” (after me, the deluge), because a few months later a flood of sightings would begin, which would reach a level which had not been seen before or since.  But before this flood began Ruppelt had about 6 months of “grace period” to upgrade the UFO investigation. He increased the staff size and hired experts in various fields as well as the Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio, to help analyze the sightings and evaluate the credibility of the people who made sighting reports. He required that sightings be treated seriously and that the staff members provide “unbiased evaluations” of reports., which meant providing reasonable explanations if possible and admitting the failure to explain if there appeared to be no reasonable explanation. Ruppelt began a process of briefing various Air Force technical advisors and others about the activities of the project and at the same time receiving recommendations for improvement in the nature of the sighting evidence. He was given good support in his efforts to turn the project, under its new name, Blue Book, into a real research and analysis effort. Ruppelt accepted the recommendations to try to get “accurate measurements of the speed, altitude and size of reported UFOs” because, as Bennett points out, “once some part of the UFO could be got into the objective Cartesian frame, the project would be getting somewhere.” However, because of its “now you see it, now you don’t” sort of non-repeatability it was difficult to obtain valid data on these “liminal” phenomena,  Bennett cites a number of cases in his book, among the most important of which are the sightings by the men who launched high altitude balloons (General Mills balloon project personnel). Bennett writes, “The experienced Mills crews, familiar with all kinds of sky lighting and atmospheric conditions, meteorology, aerodynamics and astronomy, said they saw so many UFOs they had long since ceased taking any notice of them.”  Another sighting that had a great impact on Ruppelt involved a fighter aircraft that chased a saucer until it “made a quite astonishing 180 degree turn, accelerated rapidly,” and left the aircraft behind. An attempt to explain the object as a balloon failed miserably and Ruppelt had to agree with the pilot’s own assessment that, “maybe it was a spaceship.”  These inexplicable sightings were, as Bennett says, a “massive blow to the ego.” We consider our culture to be advanced and yet we are faced with “the possibility (that we are) living alongside (as distinct from being invaded by) a culture whose nature is almost inconceivable.” As Bennett points out, the discovery that there is another culture “just as complex and multifarious as is (our) culture,” that is operating at a technical level above (way above?) our own could cause us to go into a “cultural shock” similar to that which happened to “the Australian aboriginals and the cargo worshippers of the Solomon Islands.” Bennett says that the strong possibility that this sort of culture shock would be detrimental to our society could be a justification for “skeptical blindness” to the sightings themselves and for “militant skepticism” as a means for maintaining control of our own society.  Bennett’s book recites the history of Project Blue Book as portrayed by Ruppelt with the climax occurring in late July, 1952, during the press conference of General John Samford. The buildup to that conference is “vintage ufology” as Bennett describes the interplay between the investigators and the analysts and the media people and, of course, the UFOs themselves. The period of time from January 1952 through August of that year should be studied by everyone seriously interested in coming to grips with this phenomenon. It long has been this reviewer’s opinion that if we really knew what happened during this period of time we would know much or maybe most of what is to be learned about the UFO phenomenon (barring abductions, which weren’t a recognized part of the phenomenon for at least another decade). It is to his credit, therefore that Bennett has devoted roughly half of his book to this period of time. I just wish that he had written a few pages more on the pre-Ruppelt days of Projects Sign and Grudge because the reader who is not familiar with the early history might think that little of import happened before Ruppelt took over the investigation.  As one example, Bennett did not mention the early involvement of the FBI, and involvement that became important for demonstrating the existence of a “cover up” that occurred on the day of Samford’s press conference. On that day General Samford, the voice of Air Force Intelligence, told the assembled media representatives that there was no evidence of a threat to the United States and that, as far as he was concerned, all the unexplained sightings, including those in the Washington, D.C. area (which led to the title of the book), resulted from weather phenomena. So, where is the cover up? Here it is: on that same day an FBI agent was told by one of the Air Force intelligence staff at the Pentagon, i.e., one of Samford’s employees, that roughly 2% of the sightings could not be explained and that “it was not entirely impossible that the objects sighted may possibly be ships from another planet such as Mars.” (quote from an FBI document dated July 29, 1952) It seems clear to this reviewer that if Samford had said that at the press conference he would have “blown the lid off” the cover up and the history of the UFO subject since then would have been different.  I was also somewhat disappointed to see that Bennett did not present the full impact of the several months leading up to the press conference. He does point out that by the middle of July ATIC was swamped with reports from the USA and around the world and was preparing for “an expected invasion of flying saucers.” However, he could have made this revelation even more astounding by “committing statistics” and also by citing some of the headlines in major newspapers. This portion of the “Year of the UFO” was truly amazing. It was equally amazing that, after it was over, thanks to “nothing there” Samford and the “ha ha” boys in the newsmedia (“flying saucers are hot air”), the events were quickly forgotten or at least pushed to the background of unimportant events in history. (Does anyone know of a conventional history book that mentions the “saucer craze” in 1952?) So, as a supplement to what Bennett has written about 1952, here are the numbers of sighted objects recorded by Project Blue Book by month which will give the reader an overview of this “saucer craze” : Jan. – 15, Feb. – 17, Mar. – 23, Apr. – 82, May – 79, June – 148, July – 536, Aug. – 326, Sep. – 124, Oct. – 61, Nov. – 50, Dec. – 42. Of these roughly 20% were considered to be unexplained. (Statistics from Blue Book Special Report #14 by the Battelle Memorial Institute.) In an Appendix Bennett summarizes the three chapters that Ruppelt added to the second edition (19 59) of his 1956 book. He points out that, although this is generally perceived as a radical change in attitude, being more negative than the first edition, the change is not really as much as one might think. To understand why, one should read this book.  Amusing aside: I knew that Colin Bennett has experience in electronic and other technologies so I was not surprised to see various erudite discussions of electronic devices. However, I was mildly “shocked” to see a reference to something I hadn’t thought about in many years. According to Bennett, the MIG 15 avionics package included “acorn-sized” “Gnom” type vacuum tubes. This brought to mind my own experience, about 50 years ago, with what are called “acorn tubes,” which were developed in the middle 1930’s for use in high frequency electronics and avionics.
