There are many sorts of depression in life. I tell you about one form of depression, which occurred to Eliah and about which is told in 1 Kings 19.
Eliah had done great things on mount Carmel, chapter 18. But the following day he was 'nowhere' after this glorious but exhausting day . ONE woman, Jizebel, threatened him and he ran away, (3) And in his flight after some time he was so depressed , that he was thinking of doing nothing more and lay down to die, ( 4).
But though he was in a deep depression, the Lord did not forget him. He sent an angel and Eliah got courage to get up and go to mount Horeb. And there the Lord showed him new tasks and Eliah was out of hias depression.
There are great thoughts in this whole story. But I should like to point only to these aspects, referring to depression.
Also now, when we have perhaps done great things for the Lord, ( of course by his grace), sometimes a deep feeling of depression comes over us. In our days we know, that we have to struggle in the name of Jesus against the demon, that brings this depression over us, but it is just the difficulty, that in times of depression we don't have the strength to struggle.
Eliah was 'nowhere', but the Lord is 'everywhere'. 2 Chronicles 16 v 9 says: " The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen rhose whose hearts are fully committed to him".
And when a Christian is in a time of depression through whatever reason and he has not the strength to stand up...... he lies 'under some broomtree' ( 1 Kings 19 v 4 ) and has only one wish: to be and to think and to have: NOTHING ...... then certainly God will help and give power to the powerless, ( v 8) and later on comfort.
Now my advice to people in depression is: try to call to God for help. Tell him, how hopeless your situation is and that you have nothing left to stand up. And the Lord of Eliah is still the same. He will do for you what he did for Eliah.
One time I myself was at a loss what to do. I shall not say I was depressed, but my wife was ill and we had stranded in the republic of South Africa and we had to go to Botswana and those states were enemous at that time and there seemed no possibility to cross the border. And I lay down in my room in Bloemfontein, (Flower fountain) and wept and said : "Oh Lord...oh Lord" and nothing more, for I was at the end of all my words and of all my possibilities. And then the Lord sent help and the evening of the following day we crossed the border.
So....when you are so depressed, that you cannot , as you always do at other times, resist satan ( James 4 v 7), the eyes of the Lord....... he will help you and set you on your feet.
Alles was Jesus hat lehren wollen an seine Gemeinde , wird in diesen Jahren vollkommen gelernt .

Du beiden denkst vielleicht, dasz es hier um grosze Namen geht. Aber wir in Holland kennen viele dersolchen,die ganz einfach und im gröszeren Kreis unbekannt sind. Sicherlich habst du in Deutsch;land ettlichen, die dieselbe Lehr haben.
Das ist nun diese Lehre: - jeder Mensch musz sich wirklich reuen von seiner Sünde und sich persönlich kehren zu Jesus, Gott und Mensch, Erlöser,(Ichtus), (Iesus Chrestos Theos, Uios, Sotèr). - Es ist gut um sich nach 'seelischer' Bekehrung zu vertiefen durch das andächtig und mit geöffnetem Herzen die Bibel gründlich und überall zu lesen. Infolge 1 Petrus 1 v 23 gibt Gott dann den Gnaden, dasz man wiedergeboren wird. - Wenn ein Folgling wiedergeboren ist, so bedeutet das, dasz er 'eingebohren ist' in der unsichtbaren Wirklichkeit Gottes und dasz er geistliche Augen bekommt um einen Beginn von Begriff zu haben für die geistliche Welt. - wenn dieses Glück gekommen ist, da steht in der Schrift, dasz man "voll Geistes" werden soll, ( Eph 5 v 1. - Wie das wohlmal geht, kannst du lesen in Apg 8, 10 und 19. - wenn man weiter geht mit diesem Tauf in den Heiligen Geist, so lernt man allmählig aus 1 Korinther 12, was die bekanntesten Gaben des Heiligen Geistes sind. Diese Gaben üben ist ein herrlicher Durchbruch nach mehr Kenntnis der unsichbaren Welt - Aber auch die Frucht ist unvermiszbar, wie sie in Galater 5 v 22 genennt wird. - Man kommt nur weiter mit den Gaben, wenn man auch die Frucht übt. - In Epheser 6 v 12 wird der eigentliche Feind genannt. Aber in Markus 16 v 17 lesen wir dasz Auswerfen von Dämonen herrlicher Pflicht ist.
Dies alles habe ich nun schon Jahre lang geübt. Und der Gnade Gottes hat mir geholfen. Und ich bin mit dieser Lehre ganz glücklich.
You all wrote so gladly and optimistically about the gifts of the Lord.
Of course you all know the gifts, mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12 v 7-11. And all of you know the fruit of the Lord, mentioned in Galatians 5 v 22.
Talking of them would be: `carry coals to New Castle' We in Holland say: "water naar de zee dragen", ( " carry water to the sea").
But I mention some other, less known gifts, mentioned in Romans 12 v 6- 8: " We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is PROPHESYING, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7: if it is SERVING, let him serve, if it is TEACHING, let him teach. 8: If it is ENCOURAGING, let him encourage. If it is CONTRIBUTING TO THE NEEDS OF OTHERS, let him give generously; if it is LEADERSHIP, let him govern diligently if it is SHOWING MERCY, let him do it cheerfully.
Don't you think this to be great!! But there is more!
Ephesisans 4 v 11- 12 talks of quite an other sort of gifts: "It was our dear Lord Jesus, who gave some to be APOSTLES, some to be PROPHETS, some to be EVANGELISTS, and some PASTORS and TEACHERS 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up"
In the dutch bible the word ENCOURAGING from Romans 12 v 8 is given as ADMONITION. So this can also be a gift. And still there is more !
Romans 12 v 13 says: "Practice HOSPITALITY".
1 Corinthians 12 v 28: " God has appointed ....those ABLE TO HELP OTHERS.."
2 Corinthians 1 v 11: "Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many", ( INTERCESSION)
A lady this morning said to me during our weekly 'church-informal party': " I am going to do intercession for Obama". A good advice for all Christians, I think.
Oh boys and girls !!!.....how many possibilities to serve the Lord and serve our dear Jesus Christ.
Eine gute Richtlinie gibt Galater 5 v 22: Die Frucht des Geistes ist Liebe, Freude, Friede, Geduld, Freundlichkeit, Gütigkeit, Glaube, Sanftmut, Selbstbeherrschung".
Das sind schöne Sachen. Aber: es ist 'die Frucht des Geistes'. Das bedeutet also, dasz man diese Sachen nur BLEIBEND haben kann, wenn man erfüllt ist mit dem Heiligen Geist von Gott.
Michi, - du hast dich einmal dem Herrn Jesus zugekehrt in deiner Bekehrung. - Und du bist darin weitergegangen, auch wenn die Glaube an den liebven Herrn Jesus Widerstand aufrief. - und da wurde diese Glaube stärker im Kampf. Es war nicht mehr eine Sache der Seele, aber des menschlichen Geistes. - und du hast die Bibel danach gelesen mit mehr Fleisz und Liebe. - Und dann ist geschehen, was in 1 Petrus 1 v 23 steht: "....wiedergeboren nicht aus vergänlichem Samen , sondern aus unvergänglichem Samen, nämlich aus dem lebendigen Wort Gottes, das da bleibt".
Du bist also jetzt wiedergeboren. Aber es sind noch herrlicher Sachen. Leset darübet - Apostelgeschichten 8, zumal 15- 17, die Leute aus Samaria - Apg 10, zumal 44- 46, Cornelius und seine Freunde usw - Apg 19, zumal v 6, die zwölf Männer in Ephesus.
Und wenn du getauft bist mit dem Heilgen Geist, so ist es erst richtig möglich um als guter Christ zu leben.
Sundaymorning we had Kees 'Goodheart' in the congregation. This preacher, very respected in our circles, I lile to hear for some 48 years up to now. (Little warning: his preaches are a bit complex. Just read the mentioned scripture places intensely in their context).
Now he amalgamated in a matchless way: - Psalm 133, song of praise regarding 'unity amongst believers' - that 'round loaf of barley bread' of Gideon, that annihilated the Midian camp , (Judges 7 v 13) - this enigmetical text from Ecclesiastes about 'cast your bread upon the waters , for after many days you will find it again' , 11 v 1 - and still more.....
Here follows an incomplete compilation of what he said, as 'it came to me'. ................ Real unity.
- When you are One in your heart with Jesus Christ, God and man, redeemer... - when you can look over all sorts of 'no-kernel differences' ....then you are in fact one with all others, who also have this attitude...; then your hands find each other on the throne of Jesus.
The oil of the Holy Spirit...... the example of the high priest from Psalm 133 transponed to the spiritual sphere ....who flowed over Jesus as firstling an covered his whole spiritual being, will fall also upon you, for you are the spiritual body of Jesus.
(Judges) That same experience forges you together to ONE.... to that 'round loaf of barley bread'..... Jesus and his congregation , baked together to an unbreakable unity ....that 'round loaf of barley bread' , that firstling of the harvest, rolling down and rolling down from Golgotha, annihilating all resistance.
(Ecclesiastes) :And - in that unity then you can- really efficient- 'cast your bread upon the waters' of the whole wide world. And also then you are guaranteed to find positive resulsts back ------- I relished and hope you do also enjoy.
Letszen sonntag ist in der Kirche die geschichte von Noha mit seiner Atche vorgelesen worden, der pastor hat auch darueber eine Prdicht gehalten doch hatt er es mehr wie ein Maerchen erzaelt. Doch ich finde so einfach ist es garnicht das zu verstehen...wenn ich richtich verstanden habe dann hat Gott dort im laufe der Geschichte sich zweimal geirt : Zu erst sagt Er das es ein Feler war uns ueberhaubt zu erschaffen und dann endert ehr nach der sindfluht wieder seine Meinung und sagt das es nicht unsere schuld ist das wir so ein kaos veranstalten, weil wir von gebut auf Boese sind. Ich hab das jetz nicht so gut wieder gegeben ...wie versteht ihr diese Geschichte?

Die Geschichte mit der Sintflut und der Arche ist eben kein Märchen. Wenn späterhin die Volke der Welt nach allen Seiten hinweg gingen, so nahmen sie alle diese Geschichte mit und die lebt noch überall, in allerlei Formen. Und die ältesten Geschichten , kommen dicht an die biblische Geschichte hinan, wiewohl es so ist, dasz eine Geschichte, das Giljam-epos aus Babel, ganz unwahrscheinlich ist wenn man es vergleicht mit der Geschichte aus der Bibel. So wird in 'Giliam' sieben Tage gebauet und dann war die Arche fertig. Aber die Bibel erzählt dasz es sich handelte um viele Jahrzehnte.
Nun sagst du, Gott hätte sich geirrt. Aber das steht so nicht in 1 Mose 6 v 6. Da steht eben: 5: Als aber der Herr sah, dasz des Menschen Bosheit grosz war auf Erden und alles Dichten und Trachten ihres Herzens nur böse war immerdar, 6: da reute es ihn, dasz er die Menschen gemacht hatte auf Erden und es bekümmerte ihn in seinem Herzen".
'Reuen' ist etwas andres als ' sich irren'. Und das ist hier auch sehr ' menschformig' ausgedrückt. Denn Numeri (Mose 4) 23 v 19 sagt: "Gott ist nicht ein Mensch, dasz er lüge, noch ein Menschenkind , dasz ihm etwas gereue".
Aber es ist hier nur so, dasz die eigentliche Meinung ist, Ausdruck zu geben an den entsetzlichen Bruch , der in den Verhältnissen zwischen Gott und Mensch geschlagen war durch die vernichtende Wirkung der Sünde.
Man musz sich hierbei auch denken, dasz von den 120 Jahren, an die Menschen gegeben um sich zu bekehren, die meisten vorbei waren. Die Arche hatte schon Form bekommen und Noah hatte schon 120 Jahre hindurch gesprochen als Lehrer der Gerechtigkeit, ( Hebräer 11 v 7). Und wenn so ein kräftiger Predigt ist ausgegangen in -sag- fast 120 Jahren und wenn da ein Schiff liegt auf einer Hochebene, dann ist die Gnadezeit vorbei. Und da 'weint'der Herrgott, wenn die Leute so unbereulich sind.
Bei Seite: In Offenbarung 9 v 20 wird gesprochen über Mensche in der Endzeit, die auch viele Warnungen bekommen und sich trotzdem nicht bekehren. "Und die übrigen Leute .....taten doch nicht Busze für die Werke ihrer Hände , dasz sie nicht mehr anbeteten die bösen Geister...." Sieht das nicht den vor- Sintflutmenschen ähnlich ?
Un am Ende der Sintflut sagt Gott in 1 Mose 8 v 21: " Ich will hinfort nicht mehr die Erde verfluchen um der menschen Wille, denn das Dichten und Trachten des menschlichen Herzens it böse von Jugend an"
Man kann die Worte auch wie folgt lesen : "Ich habe die Erde verflucht mit der Sintflut um der Menschen Wille, weil das Dichten und Trachten des menschlichen Herzens böse war von Jugend an. Aber wiewohl das auch jetzet noch so ist.....ich werde die Erde nicht mehr mit einer Sintflut verfluchen".
Aber. ....wenn in der Endzeit die Mensche - natürlich nicht alle- noch ein schlechtes und böses Herz haben, so wird doch nicbt mehr eine Sintflut kommen. Aber der Herr bleibt der selbe. Er wird auch dann alle Schlechtheit strafen.
Natürlich hat Noach , als er opferte, gebeten: "Ach lieber HerrGott....dies niemals wieder".
Die Antwort des Herrn is eine Gebets-erhörung , aber auch nichts mehr. Von Ewigkeit an ist alles bei Ihm bekannt.
Wir verstehen dies alles nicht mit unserem Menschenvernunft. Aber Jesaja 55 v 8 sagt: " Denn meine ( Gottes) Gedanken sind nicht eure Gedanken und eure Wege sind nicht meine Wege, spricht der Herr; sondern so viel der Himmel höher ist als die Erde, so sind auch meine Wege höher als eure Wege und meine Gedanken als eure Gedanken.
Aber....es kommt keine Sintflut mehr, aber ' leben mit dem Herrn Jesus' gibt uns eine überherrliche, ewige Zukunft.
I am strongly against the idea, that there should be a - so called- rapture- BEFORE the 'heavy things', called in Revelation 13, will take place.
The congregation of Lord Jesus ought to grow so far, that they are ready for the fiercest fight, as decribed in Revelation 11.
Some people say, that Moses and Eliah will come down from heaven to have this fight and be killed in the end ( Rev 11 v 7). But this idea is absolutely wrong. And it is also much too easy. For in these textes are also mentioned Joshua, the High Priest and Zerubbabel, the stadtholder, from Zechariah 4. And it is only ´shallow reading´, that made that these persons are not mentioned. No...these people of the Old Testament are only mentioned as examples.
The temple, the eternal temple must been built....and in the visible world Joshua and Zerubbabel had this task. And the congregation has this same task in the end-times.
And the last struggle is like this, that the children of God have power to do great things by the gift of miraculous works, (1 Corinthians 12 v 10), because they are filled with the Holy Spirit.
These people, mentioned up here, are WE..... the congregation of the end times. This will be demanded from US.
We will have spiritual power to kill spiritually our opponents, mostly backsliders - ex Christians, ( v 5). This was long ago done by Eliah in the visible world. We will make it like this that 'waters change into blood', like Moses did one time in the visible world. But we will do it in the invisible world, so that all sources of good things are away for the people, who want to drink from the waters of the antichrist. For them there is only horrible blood in all their ideas. And we get the power 'to strike the earth with every plague, like it was in Egypt', ( v 6).
And after these happenings the Antichrist will kill 'US, the warriors of the cross' (7)
And because we have become 'Jesus- alikes', the Lord will give 'a breath of life in US and we will stand on our feet and we will go to heaven in a cloud, ( 12).
But not all the warriors of the Lord were present then and there. And a short time afterwards we read in 1 Thessalonians 5 v 15: "According to Lord Jesus' own word , we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left to the coming of the Lord......when the Lord will come down from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God....will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air...".
So Danny...make yourself ready for the total fighting of the end time. When you have fully conquered all enemies, through the grace of the Lord, then is your rapture.
This rapture so is not at a moment, when all these things begin to occur, but only AFTER, when you have proved to be a brave warrior in the hardest times to come.
