soft seventies
A collaboration of two French interior icons: After two successful capsule collections of prêt-à-porter and bridal wear, the story of La Redoute X Balzac Paris continues. La Redoute Intérieurs has combined forces and talents with Balzac Paris once more to establish a brand new collection for spring, naturally in line with La Redoute’s eco-responsible values. Soft materials, natural colours and timeless lines will brighten up your home. A new interior chapter of two French interior icons has been written.
Where it all began : Similar to the previous collabs, both brands were given the freedom of choice from the start. “We had a whole team of professionals with us and the possibilities were endless. While creating this collection, each and every one of us had their say. We really worked as a one, validating each other’s proposals.” – Chrysoline de Gastines, co-founder of Balzac Paris.
Common grounds : Despite Balzac’s bold shapes, softness is something both brands have in common. Both eager to give the collection that French sophisticated twist, the two brands have opted for a balance between soft and natural, unbleached Scandinavian tones and durability of the materials, while adding that specific je-ne-sais-quoi. The teams aimed to create a responsible collection, which means materials are not sourced outside European borders, such as the coffee table which is made of Italian materials.
The challenges: As so many more companies in the current context, and in the textile industry in particular, the two brands were faced with problems like sourcing materials. This resulted in the release being delayed by six months. Now that the La Redoute X Balzac Paris collection is final, it’s needless to say that it was worth the wait.
Another hurdle was the travertine table. The material is very pricey and the teams weren’t used to working with this material. But both brands are very pleased with the result: from the aesthetics to the round and linear shapes, the outcome looks amazing.
The seventies are calling : Inspired by Pierre Paulin, known for his love for roundness, the home collection invites you to curl up on the soft sofa or the bouclé chair. Furthermore, the nostalgic seventies were a huge inspiration while designing the line: colours like rust and terracotta define the capsule collection.
The beauty lies in the details : The fusion of the two French brands is carried through to the detail, such as the armrests of the khaki chair which were inspired by the shape of one of Balzac Paris’ earrings. The blue wallpaper features a salomé pattern that’s a best-seller at Balzac Paris. Matching cushions will arrive later this season.
