In 1974 probeerde ik nog altijd mijn verzameling met soulvolle hits uit de jaren zestig te vervolledigen. Gelukkig was er de compilatie van Motown-hits die onder de naam 'Oldies Collection Volume 4/The Early Hits of Tamla Motown' verschenen was in 1973. Enkele maanden later, in de zomer van 1974, kon ik die kopen voor slechts 200 BEF.

'Behind A Painted Smile' is altijd een persoonlijke favoriet geweest!
Na de film 'American Graffiti' gezien te hebben in 1974 besloot ik de soundtrack, uitgebracht op een dubbel verzamelalbum, aan te kopen. Er stonden niet minder dan 41 rock-'n-roll-hits op uit de jaren vijftig. De inbreng van DJ Wolfman Jack vond ik geweldig. De aankoopprijs was toen 300 BEF.
De film uit 1973 werd geregisseerd door George Lucas en de producenten waren Francis Ford Coppola en Gary Kurtz. Lucas wilde ook nummers van Elvis Presley opnemen in de soundtrack maar kreeg daarvoor geen toestemming van platenlabel RCA.
Ron Howard zou in 1974 op televisie verschijnen in de formidabele reeks 'Happy Days'!

Twee nummers uit die geweldige soundtrack van mijn prille jeugd!
Geen muziek uit de jaren vijftig of zestig voor mijn volgende elpee maar eigentijdse jazz/funk met toch hier en daar een knipoog naar het verleden zoals die cover van 'Eleanor Rigby' van Lennon/McCartney en de knappe jazzbewerking van Carole King haar mooie compositie 'So Far Away'. Het paradepaardje van Wilton Felder 'Way Back Home' staat op bijna al hun elpees.
'Scratch' uit 1974 kon ik al vrij snel na de uitgifte aankopen tegen de prijs van 225 BEF. Het is een live album opgenomen in The Roxy.

In 1974 trad Barry White op de voorgrond met achter hem zijn Love Unlimited Orchestra. De massieve zanger, componist en orkestleider kreeg al vrij snel de bijnaam "The Walrus of Love"!
De elpee 'Rhapsody in White Arranged And Conducted By Barry White featuring 'Love's Theme'' kon ik in 1974 kopen voor 269 BEF.
