UFOs: When Secret Documents Go Conveniently – Or Mysteriously – Missing
UFOs: When Secret Documents Go Conveniently – Or Mysteriously – Missing
Over the years and decades, a large number of UFO-themed government documents have been declassified into the public domain thanks to the Freedom of Information Acts of various nations. There is, however, another aspect to this: namely, the files that should have been released but that can’t be found. Anywhere. We’ll begin with the Roswell affair of July 1947. When, in the 1990s, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (previously the General Accounting Office) dug deep to try and find any documentation on Roswell, many researchers of the still-mysterious case thought that at least some degree of answers would be found. Not so. There’s no doubt that the GAO did a very good job when it came to the search for the Roswell files, but even they couldn’t find what turned out to be a significant body of files. As the GAO said: “In our search for records concerning the Roswell crash, we learned that some government records covering RAAF activities had been destroyed and others had not. For example, RAAF administrative records (from Mar. 1945 through Dec. 1949) and RAAF outgoing messages (from Oct. 1946 through Dec. 1949) were destroyed. The document disposition form does not indicate what organization or person destroyed the records and when or under what authority the records were destroyed [italics mine].” The mystery is still not clear. Now, onto another famous (or infamous) case.

Roswell: Files that can’t be found
In 2011, the BBC ran an online article titled “UFO files reveal ‘Rendlesham incident’ papers missing.” The BBC’s Neil Henderson wrote: “Intelligence papers on a reported UFO sighting known as the ‘Rendlesham incident’ have gone missing, files from the National Archives reveal. The missing files relate to a report of mysterious lights from US servicemen at RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk in 1980. The disappearance came to light with the release of 8,000 previously classified documents on UFOs. Officials found a ‘huge’ gap where defense intelligence files relating to the case should be, the papers show.” The files also referred to a “deliberate attempt” to “eradicate the records covering this incident.” Hmm.

When documents vanish…
Now, onto the matter of the Contactees of the 1950s. Or, rather, one particular Contactee: Orfeo Angelucci, who came on the UFO scene in the early 1950s.. It’s a fact that nearly all of the UFO Contactees had files opened on them by J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI. The list included George Adamski, George Van Tassel, Wayne Aho, and George Hunt Williamson. Some of those FBI surveillance files ran to more than 300 pages. By the mid-1950s, Angelucci had moved on from his job at Lockheed and he and his family were now based out of Twentynine Palms, San Bernadino County, California. And, with his book The Secret of the Saucers on the bookshelves, he was becoming a familiar face at UFO lectures and conferences. It was in this period that Angelucci caught the attention of the FBI – and for a very curious reason. As he became more adept at public speaking, and more comfortable about discussing his claimed encounters with aliens, Angelucci revealed something disturbingly eye-opening. It was something which soon had the Feds on his tail. According to Angelucci, as his profile as one of the Contactees grew and grew, he found himself approached on several occasions by what he described as a “subversive element.”On occasion, those approaches were made at Giant Rock, California, near to George Van Tassel’s Integratron.
(Nick Redfern)
George Van Tassel’s Integratron
This small group – “foreigners,” as he worded it – first approached Angelucci while he was engaged in a series of lectures along the east coast in the 1950s. Regular UFO enthusiasts, they were certainly not. They did their very best to try and encourage Angelucci to suggest to his listeners and readers that his alien comrades were communists. In correspondence with Jim Moseley, who, as we have seen, spent time addressing the matter of a communist plot to manipulate the U.S. UFO scene, Angelucci claimed that this “gang of four,” as we might describe them, bought him dinner on three occasions and plied him with plentiful amounts of booze, in plush, New York hotels and bars. Angelucci admitted to Moseley that he was “flattered” by the attention, but remained very uneasy about the agenda. Angelucci would later say of this curious affair: “Failing in their desperate attempts to convert me to communism and slant my talks along the Party Line, they invariably defiantly demanded: ‘Well, then, just what do you think is wrong with Communism?'” Angelucci was a scared man.
(Nick Redfern)
Shortly before Angelucci publicly revealed that a certain “subversive element” was mixing and stirring left-wing, extremist politics with extraterrestrials, the FBI came knocking on the front-door of the Angelucci home. While we don’t know the full story, we do at least have the bones of it, thanks to Jim Moseley. According to what Angelucci told Moseley, a pair of FBI agents visited Angelucci at his Twentynine Palms home, telling him that they had heard of the actions of this east coast group – from who, though, was something that the FBI was not prepared to reveal. The questions posed to Angelucci were many: How did he first meet the group? Did they give their names? Were they Americans? Did they offer him money to slant his tales down a politically-driven path? The list of questions went on and on. Angelucci – admittedly scared out of his wits by the fact that the FBI was onto him, even though he hadn’t really done anything wrong – blurted out just about all that he could. The group had first approached him, in an overly friendly fashion, at a lecture in New York, he told the special-agents. No names were ever given to him, but all four were well-dressed, all seemed to be around the forty-mark, and all had overseas accents. No money ever crossed hands. They invited Angelucci to dinner, which he accepted, admittedly intrigued by the prospect of developing new contacts. It was over dinner that the matter of communism surfaced its head. This mysterious group wanted Angelucci to present his lectures in a fashion that suggested the aliens were communists – and that communism was a good thing. No wonder the FBI opened a file on the man. There’s something else, though: on October 24, 2017, the FBI informed UFO researcher John Greenewald that Angelucci had indeed been the subject of a Bureau file, but that it was destroyed on October 30, 2009.
For whatever reasons, some places seem to draw to them more UFO activity than others. These places log in more sightings than other places, often by a fair margin, and it is not easy to ascertain just exactly why that should be. One place that is perhaps little known to the outside world as a UFO hotspot is the wilds of South Australia, consisting of largely of sparsely inhabited arid and semi-arid rangelands, with several low mountain ranges. It is a wild, remote place in many areas, and it is here where the dark rural roads that meander through the outback have long been seemingly plagued by UFOs.
Our earliest report here comes from the files of UFO Research South Australia (UFORSA), in the year 1955, near the town of Tintinara. On April 22 of that year, a young, unnamed man was driving along a dusty rural road at around 7:45 a.m. when he was startled to see something hover across the road in front of him. He would describe it as a “three metre diameter silvery sphere, surrounded by a flange,” with a total diameter of around 10 meters. According to the witness there were no external portholes or markings, the entire thing completely smooth and metallic. The object crossed over the road, hovering about 1 meter above it, after which it circled around and crossed behind the vehicle before taking a parallel course beside it, matching the speed of the astonished man’s car. The mysterious object reportedly followed him for about 25 kilometers before it either lost interest or found something better to do, launching straight up into the sky at phenomenal speeds.
Continuing into the 50s, according to a report in the Adelaide “Advertiser, on March 13, 1959, two men were in a truck near a place called Purnong Landing when they crested a hill and were astounded to see a “dome illuminated by colored lights,” measuring around 10 meters in diameter. They were so in awe of the object that they stopped the truck to watch it. The object eerily hung there in one place, flashing through a pattern of alternating hypnotic sequences of different colored lights, before it without warning went completely dark. The men approached out of curiosity, the thing now just a black, indefinable shape, but it then sped off silently without illuminating again. In that same month, on March 31, witness Barry Neale was driving near Port Elliott when he passed a strange object resting about 100 meters off the road, which he described as 2 meters wide and looking like a “a glowing reddish orange object with a row of portholes.” Neale drove off onto a dirt side road through the trees to try and get closer, but the object then took off at an incredibly high speed.
Moving into the 1960s, there are several notable reports. On May 19, 1963, a 17-year-old local mechanic was driving home near Mount Gambier and noticed a strange metallic object travelling along near the road. As he approached it, the object allegedly flashed him with a blinding light before hovering directly above his vehicle. At this point he could see that it was oval-shaped, about 6 meters long, and with an array of lights as bright as “the arc lights in electric welding.” It apparently followed him for several miles before drifting off into the distance. The very next day there was another report from the same general vicinity, this time given by a witness who says he was followed for 3 miles along a desolate stretch of barren road by a mysterious silent object that was “bright red/white and shaped like a bull-dozer.” The object apparently only flew off when another car appeared coming the opposite direction. The following month, on July 28, 1963, a witness was near a place called Sandy Creek, making his way towards the town of Gawler when he was forced to slam his brakes when he almost collided with a “blood-red colored object extending across the roadway” as he rounded a bend. The object had a concave top and a flat base, the whole of it bathed in that eerie red glow. It then ascended, the color of its light changing to yellow as it did, then turned on its side and flew off, streaming a trail of vapor behind it.
In July of 1967, a witness was driving near Murray Bridge on his way to Karoonda through thick fog when his radio began to go haywire, distorting and morphing until it became an ear-piercing, high pitched whine, causing him to turn it off. Shortly after this, his engine died for no apparent reason and a warning light came on telling him his key was not in the ignition, even though it was. As the car rolled to a stop he noticed a patch of fog suddenly clear to reveal a “large dark shadow” about 120 feet wide and with a greyish-blue glow above it hovering 20 feet above the road. As he looked on in amazement, the hole in the fog suddenly closed again, making it appear as if the enigmatic object had just vanished into thin air. As soon as it was gone, his car jumped back to life and the radio worked normally.
In the 1970s we have first a report of a Mr. Boyce, who on August 8, 1971 was on his way from the town of Wallaroo to Kadina when he was bathed in an orange glow as his car died. He guided the powerless car to the side of the road and got out of the vehicle to see “an oval shape with three to four windows” hovering almost directly over his car and emitting a low buzzing noise. It allegedly hovered there motionless and silent for around 3 minutes before moving off out of sight, his car coming back on when it did.
In February of 1972, a witness named Hunt was driving outside the town of Kimba with a passenger called Finkler, when Hunt saw a “red and orange rectangle of light” hovering nearby about 3 feet over the ground. In this case he could allegedly see the occupant of the craft within the light, which appeared to be a 6-foot-tall humanoid decked out in “a white space suit with a mask over the head and face.” Hunt woke his passenger, who had been sleeping, who also saw it, and they reported it to police. Authorities would then find out that two other independent witnesses had reported seeing the orange light in the same location within a 15-minute period, although no one else reported the alien figure. In February of 1974 there was another sighting of a humanoid being in conjunction with a UFO in the same area, when four people in three separate vehicles saw an orange lighted rectangular object sitting in a clearing off the road. There was also allegedly seen a “two-meter-tall ‘man’ in a white space-suit” hovering within the rectangular light like an insect in amber.
In the 1980s we have the strange case of two young men only known as “Messrs P.” and “J”, who were driving outside of Port Lincoln when they saw an odd bright light in the sky. After that they apparently drove into a “white endless space,” after which they woke up in their car on the dark road several hours later with no memory of what had happened after entering that white landscape. Under hypnosis they would recall fragments of walking into a big room and a tall, humanoid figure, but nothing else could be dredged up from their subconscious. Perhaps the most famous case of all occurred on January 20 of 1988, in the barren badlands of the remote Nullarbor Plain. In the early morning hours, the Knowles family was travelling from Perth to Melbourne when they were aggressively chased by a glowing object “like a big ball” that would reportedly terrorize them for the next 90 minutes. At one point, the object landed right on top of their car to spew smoke into their windows before picking the vehicle clear up into the air. They then felt the car shake violently and noticed that their screams of terror were distorted and slowed down as if they were in some sort of time warp, after which they were dropped so hard back onto the road that one of their tires burst. They ended up running into some brush to hide until the marauding UFO went away. Police would later examine the car to find it scratched and dented, but no radiation or any other evidence of the bizarre encounter could be found.
These are just some of the many other UFO reports from the remote and desolate roads that meander through South Australia, and indeed the region in general has gathered about itself a reputation as a UFO mecca. Why should this be? What is it about this place that should attract so many such stories? Is it something about the land itself? There have been theories that this place lies upon some sort of earth energy line, or that it possesses certain geographical features that may attract such strange forces, so could that be it? Why are they so keen to patrol the roadways here and terrorize vehicles? No one really knows, and South Australia remains a pretty active and strange UFO hotspot, where it might be best to keep your eyes to the sky the next time you are driving through.
Just about everyone with an interest in the world of UFOs will know of the primary theories for what happened at Roswell, New Mexico in July 1047: A UFO crash, a secret military experiment, a weather-balloon, and a Mogul balloon. There are, however, some lesser known scenarios for what happened. So, with that said, here are my top weird theories for the Roswell affair. Here’s number one: The late Jim Keith was the authorof a number of conspiracy/UFO-themed books, including Casebook on the Men in Black; The Octopus (co-written with Kenn Thomas); and Black Helicopters Over America. In a small article titled Roswell UFO Bombshell, Keith described his clandestine meeting with “a longtime researcher / instructor of engineering at a school in New Mexico” who claimed to know the truth of Roswell.
As for what Keith was told, it goes like this:
“According to my source, the true story behind the alleged UFO crash was that there was an accident involving a B-29 flying from the Army Air Force Base in Sandia (Albuquerque) to Roswell…my source states that either an atomic bomb or what is termed a ‘bomb shape,’ or ‘test shape,’ the shell of a nuke lacking explosives and atomic capability, and sometimes filled with concrete to add weight, was accidentally or purposefully jettisoned above Corona, New Mexico, directly on the flight path between Sandia and Roswell. Along with the bomb, metal foil used for radar jamming, termed ‘chaff,’ may have also been dropped.”
In 2010, Anomalist Books published the final title from the late Mac Tonnies: The Cryptoterrestrials. Highly thought-provoking and deeply controversial in equal measures, the book focused on the idea that UFOs are not the products of alien races, but of very ancient, terrestrial people that dwell deep underground and who masquerade as extraterrestrials to camouflage their true identity. Tonnies speculated that the Cryptoterrestrials are likely very impoverished, but utilize subterfuge, hologram-style technology, and staged-events to suggest otherwise to us. He even theorized they may have made use of large, balloon-style craft, too. And on this very matter – of the Cryptoterrestrials using balloons in covert missions – Tonnies said: “Maybe the Roswell device wasn’t high tech. It could indeed have been a balloon-borne surveillance device brought down in a storm, but it doesn’t logically follow that it was one of our own.”

The Collins Elite is a quasi-official group within the U.S. Government that believes the UFO mystery is one of demonic origins. Yes, fork-tails, horns, fiery pits, and maybe even spinning heads – that kind of thing. It must be stressed that the conclusions of the group were chiefly belief-driven, rather than prompted by hard evidence. One of the conclusions of the group was that Roswell was nothing less than a brilliant Trojan Horse. For the members of the Collins Elite, deceptive demons had, essentially, used a kind of “cosmic alchemy” to create both (A) the so-called “memory-metal” found by Mack Brazel on the Foster Ranch; and (B) the curious bodies – or body-parts – also located on the ranch. In other words, Roswell – perceived by the Collins Elite, at least – was an ingenious ruse, a staged-crash, designed to have us believe vulnerable ETs are in our midst, when it’s really the all-powerful minions of Satan.
Timothy Cooper provoked a wealth of controversy in the 1990s, thanks to an enormous body of allegedly leaked, and, supposedly highly secret, documentation in his possession on everything from crashed UFOs to alien autopsies and from sinister deaths in the UFO field to alien viruses. One such document –titled UFO Reports and Classified Projects – offers a non-UFO-themed explanation for what occurred at Roswell. The relevant extract reads as follows: “One of the projects underway at that time incorporated re-entry vehicles containing radium and other radioactive materials combined with biological warfare agents developed by I.G. Farben for use against allied assault forces in Normandy in 1944. When a V-2 warhead impacted near the town of Corona, New Mexico, on July 4, 1947, the warhead did not explode and it and the deadly cargo lay exposed to the elements which forced the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project to close off the crash site and a cover story was immediately put out that what was discovered was the remains of a radar tracking target suspended by balloons.”
While studies on wildlife have linked plastics to several health problems, their effects in humans are still mostly unknown. Now, a new study has found evidence that human organs and tissue absorb both nano- and microplastics, which could help us understand their impact on our health.
Plastics are one of the most severe environmental problems of our time. They are very durable, even in the most extreme environmental conditions, making them the worst kind of material to be floating around the ocean or washing up on pristine beaches.
But that’s not all; they can also easily break down. Researchers define microplastics as plastic fragments less than 5 mm, or about 0.2 inches, in diameter. Nanoplastics are even smaller, with diameters under 0.001 mm. Exposure to such plastic in wildlife can lead to cancer, infertility, and inflammation/
“You can find plastics contaminating the environment at virtually every location on the globe,” said Charles Rolsky, co-author of the study, in a statement.
“There’s evidence that plastic is making its way into our bodies, but very few studies have looked for it there. And at this point, we don’t know whether this plastic is just a nuisance or whether it represents a human health hazard.”
Rolsky and a group of researchers from Arizona State University wondered if the tiny particles accumulate in human organs. To find out, they analyzed 47 samples from lungs, liver, spleen, and kidneys, organs likely to be exposed to plastics, obtained from a repository of brain and body tissues.
The team created a technique to extract plastics from the samples and analyze them. They also developed a computer program that converts information on plastic particle count into units of mass and surface area. The tool will be shared with other researchers so all results can be reported in a standardized manner.
The method can detect dozens of types of plastic components within human tissues, including polycarbonate (PC), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polyethylene (PE). The team found plastic contamination in all the analyzed samples. Bisphenol A (BPA), used in food containers, was found in all samples.
“We never want to be alarmist, but it is concerning that these non-biodegradable materials that are present everywhere [may] enter and accumulate in human tissues, and we don’t know the possible health effects,” Varun Kelkar, one of the researchers that participated in the study, said in a statement.
Going forward, the researchers hope to compare the levels of microplastics in the tissues of donors with information about their lives, which is typically collected along with the tissue itself. This could draw some links between certain activities, foods, even jobs, and the prevalence of microplastics in each person’s tissue.
‘Super Blue Blood Moon’ Will Force NASA to Shut Down Lunar Spacecraft Instruments
‘Super Blue Blood Moon’ Will Force NASA to Shut Down Lunar Spacecraft Instruments
The combination of a supermoon, a blue moon, and a full lunar eclipse on January 31 means NASA scientists will temporarily turn off instruments aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Here’s why.
While skywatchers in North America, Asia, and Europe watch a bigger-than-usual lunar eclipse on January 31, NASA engineers will shut down the instruments aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO).
Eclipses put a strain on the spacecraft because it uses the sun for power. If the moon is in the Earth's shadow, sunlight can't reach it and LRO switches to batter power, principal investigator Noah Petro told Seeker. The LRO team is a veteran group at keeping the spacecraft safe, as total lunar eclipses have occurred seven times since the orbiter’s launch in 2009.
"We did a small [engine] burn to put us in an as optimal position as possible — to be able to keep the spacecraft in illumination for as long as we could. In other words, we did a small tweak to minimize the time we were in shadow," Petro said. As with past eclipses, the team will also "preheat" the spacecraft before it goes into the eclipse, so it's warmer and there is less strain on the instruments.
While LRO has seen many other eclipses, the eclipse, know as "super blue blood moon eclipse," is a rare combination of several phenomena.
A "supermoon," occurs when the moon is full and is at its closest approach to Earth in its 29 1/2-day elliptical orbit around the planet. Supermoons are 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than the moon at its furthest distance from Earth, according to NASA.
When two full moons occur in a single month, the second event is called a "blue moon." It has no special astronomical significance, but blue moons are still interesting because they occur only once every 2 1/2 years.
A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth passes between the moon and the sun, and the shadow of Earth falls across the moon's surface. Partial and full eclipses are possible. A full eclipse occurs when the moon is fully covered in shadow — which will happen January 31. The combined light of all of Earth's sunrises and sunsets creates a ruddy glow on the moon's surface. Some people call this the "blood moon."
Petro said shut down LRO’s instruments is just an extra precaution to ensure the 8-year-old spacecraft remains safe during the event. During past eclipses, however, LRO continued to collect data.
The spacecraft is designed to take high-resolution pictures of the moon: It's even seen the Apollo landing sites where astronauts undertook moonwalks in the 1960s and 1970s. Other instruments probe lunar ice reserves. LRO data recently helped to identify underground pits of polar ice, which might provide future moon missions with water. And LRO's Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment (DLRE) looks at regolith — aka soil — temperatures.
During a few eclipses, LRO engineers left Diviner on to see what it could find. Normally, the instrument examines temperatures in the top layer of soil — approximately a few tens of centimeters. During an eclipse, however, only the layer just below the surface — about 1 cm to 2 cm — changes temperature rapidly. So eclipses provide a rare opportunity for Diviner to focus its observations on soil just below the surface.
Diviner focuses, whenever possible, on the moon’s youngest craters. Investigators are interested in the lumpiness of the regolith: What is the size of grains of soil near the surface, or is the soil rocky or fine-grained soil? Petro said this is important because "it gives us a better understanding of how impacts modify the surface."
That's not only exciting for moon science, but solar system science in general, Petro said. There are all sorts of "airless" bodies around the solar system covered with craters. Examples include the planet Mercury, dwarf planets Ceres and Pluto, and asteroids such as Vesta. Learning about soil grain size on the moon can help scientists better understand how regolith works on these other worlds.
While NASA will shut down Diviner during the eclipse, Petro said the regolith science will continue. He is in talks with two astronomers in Hawaii who will monitor the regolith temperatures from the ground using infrared instruments.
There are seven instruments aboard LRO and they remain in good health, according to Petro. The spacecraft is currently slated to end operations in 2019, but Petro and his team are preparing a proposal to extend LRO's mission by another three years.
Petro said LRO's mission to the moon has already yielded interesting long-term science, such as how often craters appear on the surface. That's why he's an advocate for keeping the mission running as long as possible.
"It's really a new era for studying the moon," Petro said. "With this long baseline of observations, we're able to see how the moon changes."
A recent Freedom of Information request featured in a UK newspaper states that British police officers responded to eight UFO reports in the last two years.
While no evidence was found by the officers, police were dispatched to emergency calls in Pendle Hill, Burnley, Fleetwood, Lytham St Annes, and several other places in 2015. In March of 2016, officers were also sent to investigate a suspected alien abduction in Accrington, and they were also notified that a UFO landed in Marsden Park, Nelson.
Alleged UFO video still taken over Holmfirth at 8:50 p.m. on October 6, 2016. Image by Gary Heseltine.
Police encountering UFOs while on duty is not a strictly British phenomenon. Many cases in the United States, and across the world, have the fuzz engaging with strange lights in the sky. In August of 2014, police officers were dispatched to a call in Lower Paxton, Pennsylvania, where a witness watched a UFO for 20 minutes. The officers arrived at the scene, contacted the local airport and military base, and made an official report that the object they saw that night was totally out of the ordinary.
In regards to the UK police sightings, while it might seem like a waste of money and resources to send police officers to a UFO sighting, there is some justification to entertain such calls.
A police spokesman stated that officers are only deployed when the emergency call operator feels that the sighting or event may pose any risk, threat or harm to people in the area.
Sometimes these calls are not what they may seem so a potential UFO call could be a suspicious light or suspicious movement that could mean any number of things and we would assess and deploy officers if required, or there could be a concern for the caller’s welfare.
Whether it is fact or fiction, strange lights in the sky seem to be pretty common, but actually having police officers show up to a 911 call concerning a UFO is definitely rare.
On the 11th of February 2017 a man from Normandy, France was walking around in the village where he lives, when he suddenly spotted a unusual object hovering in the sky above him. He took his smartphone to film this object. He captured as much footage as he could until his battery was flat. The object appears to be a very large structure with several lights connected to it. It did not make any sound.

First Black Hole Orbiting a ‘Spinning’ Star
Spanish scientists have discovered the first binary system ever known to consist of a black hole and a ‘spinning’ star — or more accurately, a Be-type star. Although predicted by theory, none had previously been found. The observations that led to the discovery were performed with the Liverpool and Mercator telescopes at the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (Canary Islands, Spain). The discovery is published today in Nature.
Be-type stars are quite common across the Universe. In our Galaxy alone more than 80 of them are known in binary systems together with neutron stars. ‘Their distinctive property is their strong centrifugal force: they rotate very fast, close to their break-up speed. It’s like they were cosmic spinning tops,’says Jorge Casares of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) and La Laguna University (ULL). Casares is the lead author and an expert in stellar-mass black holes (he presented the first solid proof of their existence back in 1992).
The newly discovered black hole orbits the Be star known as MWC 656, located in the constellation Lacerta (the Lizard) — 8,500 light years from Earth. The Be star rotates so fast that its surface speed exceeds 1 million kilometres per hour. ‘We started studying this star back in 2010, when space telescopes detected transient gamma-ray emission coming from its direction,’ explains Marc Ribó, of the Institut de Ciències del Cosmos of Barcelona University (ICC/IEEC-UB). ‘No more gamma-ray emission has subsequently been detected, but we found that the star was part of a binary system,’ he adds.
A detailed analysis of its spectrum allowed scientists to infer the characteristics of its companion. ‘It turned out to be an object with a mass between 3.8 and 6.9 solar masses. An object like that, invisible to telescopes and with such large mass, can only be a black hole, because no neutron star with more than three solar masses can exist,’ states Ignasi Ribas, of CSIC in the Instituto de Ciencias del Espacio (IEEC-CSIC).
The black hole orbits the (more massive) Be star and is fed by matter ejected from the latter. ‘The high rotation speed of the Be star causes matter to be ejected into an equatorial disc. This matter is attracted by the black hole and falls on to it, forming another disc — called an “accretion disc”‘. By studying the emission from the accretion disc we could analyse the motion of the black hole and measure its mass,’ comments Ignacio Negueruela, a lecturer at the University of Alicante (UA).
Scientists believe this object to be a nearby member of a hidden population of Be stars paired with black holes. ‘We think these systems are much more common than previously thought, but they’re difficult to detect because their black holes are fed from gas ejected by the Be stars without producing much radiation, in a “silent” way, so to speak. However, we hope to detect other similar binary systems in the Milky Way and other nearby galaxies by using bigger telescopes, such as the Gran Telescopio Canarias,’ concludes Casares.
Also participating in the study with Jorge Casares, Ignacio Negueruela, Marc Ribó and Ignasi Ribas are Josep M. Paredes , of Institut de Ciències del Cosmos of Barcelona University (ICC/IECC-UB) and Artemio Herrero and Sergio Simón, both from the IAC and ULL.
Black holes, an ongoing challenge
The detection of black holes has been a challenge since their existence was first surmised by John Michell and Pierre Laplace in the 18th century. Given that they are invisible — their enormous gravitational force prevents light from escaping — telescopes cannot detect them. However, black holes can occasionally trigger high energy radiation from the environment surrounding them and can thus be traced by X-ray satellites. This is the case with active black holes, fed by matter transferred from a nearby star. If violent X-ray emission is detected from a place where nothing but a normal star is seen, a black hole might be hiding there.
Using this method, researchers have discovered 55 potential black holes over the last 50 years. Seventeen of them have what astronomers call a ‘dynamic confirmation’: the feeding star has been localised, allowing for the mass of its invisible companion to be measured. If it is above three solar masses, then it is considered to be a black hole.
The biggest problem is put forth by ‘dormant’ black holes, such as the one found by the Spanish researchers: ‘Their X-ray emission is almost absent, and so it is very unlikely that our attention would be drawn to them,’ Casares explains. Researchers believe there are thousands of black hole binary systems across the Milky Way, some of them also with Be-type stellar companions.
Legend has it that the alien grave in Aurora lies underneath the bent arm of an old tree, far left, in the Aurora Cemetery. Requests to exhume the body in the past have been denied by the cemetery board.
Aurora UFO crash remains a Texas alien mystery
By John Boyd
Aurora, Texas was Roswell before Roswell: a middle-of-nowhere town that suddenly became surrounded by legend when an alleged alien visitor crash-landed from outer space.
On this date in 1897 the alien UFO allegedly smashed into a windmill belonging to Judge J.S. Proctor. It’s pilot, who an officer from a local Army outpost described as a “Martian” and “not of this world” died and was buried in the cemetery nearby.
The reported crash was one of several American alien mysteries of the mid-1890s, but the most notable one (if not only) recorded in Texas.
Today, the only reminder of the visit, which occurred on this date in 1897, is a small historical marker near the Aurora Cemetery.
Buried deep in its stories of town founders and war heroes is a single line about the visitor supposedly buried in an unmarked grave there:
“The oldest known graves, here, dating from as early as the 1860s, are those of the Randall and Rowlett families. Finis Dudley Beauchamp (1825-1893), a Confederate veteran from Mississippi, donated the 3-acre site to the newly- formed Aurora Lodge No. 479, A.F. & A.M., in 1877. For many years, this community burial ground was known as Masonic Cemetery. Beauchamp, his wife Caroline (1829-1915), and others in their family. An epidemic which struck the village in 1891 added hundreds of graves to the plot. Called “Spotted Fever” by the settlers, the disease is now thought to be a form of meingitis. Located in Aurora Cemetery is the gravestone of the infant Nellie Burris (1891-1893) with its often-quoted epitaph: “As I was so soon done, I don’t know why I was begun.” This site is also well-known because of the legend that a spaceship crashed nearby in 1897 and the pilot, killed in the crash, was buried here. Struck by epidemic and crop failure and bypassed by the railroad, the original town of Aurora almost disappeared, but the cemetery remains in use with over 800 graves. Veterans of the Civil War, World Wars I and II, and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts are interred here.”
The single line seems about as interested as Aurora is in becoming famous from the supposed crash.
On the 110th anniversary of the crash, former Houston Chronicle writer Eyder Peralta (now with NPR)visited Aurora, 30 miles north of Fort Worth and found the townsfolk mostly apathetic about the alien visitor then, or the scores of new human visitors who have come to visit the infamous crash site.
The visitors had been fun at first, but when they began trampling the cemetery and stealing headstones and other artifacts from the city museum, the town’s notoriety became a nuisance.
In the 1970s, a group from the International UFO Bureau showed up to exhume the body – media in tow – but were turned away by angry residents.
“There was quite a mess,” one resident, Karen Tedrow, told Peralta. “The residents had guns and everything, because they didn’t want them to do it. And I understand, because my parents are buried there, and I don’t want them digging around. Earthly body or not, they ought to let it rest in peace.”
China is planning to build an enormous underwater lab for research purposes; however, the country notes that "it will carry some military functions."
China plans to build a huge sea lab 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) below the surface of the South China Sea. This project is part is China’s thirteenth five-year economic plan, and it is ranked two in the country’s top 100 science and technology priorities. The purpose of this project is to help China find minerals in the waters…but it may also have military purposes.
Only a little information is available for the public as of the moment.
The platform will be movable, as noted in the recent presentation by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The deep-sea station is spearheaded by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. It will have a dozen crew on board and could stay underwater for about a month.
So. Just how feasible is this? Well, general location faces both geological and technical challenges, such as frequent occurrence of typhoons. The area is estimated to have around 125 billion barrels of oil and around 500 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. China already spent 1.42 trillion yuan ($216 billion) on research and development in 2015. So they are investing big in the project.
Notably, China previously proved that they can live up to their deepsea ambitions by setting a world record when they sent their submersible Jiaolong to descend 7 kilometers (23,000 feet) into the Indian Ocean.
Interestingly, the “Underwater Great Wall Project,” a network of sensors to help detect US and Russian submarines, has also been proposed.
Several impressive photos of alleged UFOs over the arctic captured on camera by the Navy in 1971 have been leaked to UFO researchers, and their discovery has been getting worldwide media attention.
UFO researcher Alex Mistretta claims that the images were originally given to him by an anonymous source in Europe. Later, he discovered that they were also published in a French paranormal magazine called Top Secret.
Two of the images from the French magazine Top Secret. The caption reads: “(Top) On this photo, we identify without a doubt a triangular-shaped UFO. It seems to be in trouble. (Bottom) If the order that we have chosen for these pictures is correct, the UFO here seems to now go sideways before plunging into the ocean…” (Credit: Top Secret/TheBlackVault.com)
To further investigate, Mistretta enlisted the help of John Greenewald, who runs the websiteTheBlackVault.com. He asked Greenewald to post the pictures in hopes that Greenewald and others may be able to find out more about the images.
After posting the story last week, it began getting international headlines. A Reddit user that goes by the name SqizCat was also able to find higher resolution copies of the images.
The images are fantastic. They seem to be of large objects aloft over the ocean, some, if not all, taken from the periscope of a submarine. The big question is are they real, and if so, what are they?

Alleged UFO photo taken from the USS Trepang in March 1971.
In his email to The Black Vault, Mistretta listed what his anonymous source told him.
The photos were taken from a United State Navy submarine.
The location was between Iceland and Jan Mayen island in the Atlantic Ocean. (Jan Mayen belongs to Norway, and is only inhabited by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and the Norwegian military.)
They were taken in March of 1971.
The Submarine was the Navy’s USS Trepang (SSN 674) and the Admiral on board was Dean Reynolds Sackett. Obviously, the next step is to try and locate this Admiral Dean Reynolds, if he exists.
The Submarine came upon the object by “accident,” as they were in the region on a routine joint military and scientific expedition. Officer John Klika was the one who initially spotted the object with the periscope.
Greenewald looked into these claims and he says that he found that Admiral Sackett was onboard the USS Trepang at the time listed. He also found that Officer Kilka was also aboard. Further, he found that the USS Trepang was in the area the source claimed at the time the pictures were allegedly taken.

Mistretta wrote: “[Kilka] found the investigation interesting reading, and doesn’t know what the pictures represent. I believe them. I feel confident in saying the Trepang was not involved in the taking of the photographs.”
Although Mistretta now believes his source’s information to be inaccurate, Greenewald found clues that indicate the images may still be real, albeit not extraterrestrial.
Greenewald says, “When I first saw these, I noted there was something very Zeppelin-like about some of the photos, but, unlike the actual Zeppelin’s, it did not have a carrier for the occupants.”
By researching the USS Trepang’s whereabouts, he also found this on the site Hullnumber.com: “From 22 February to 22 March [1971], the nuclear attack submarine operated beneath the northern ice cap, conducting extensive tests to provide data for her weapons systems, as well as carrying out scientific experiments concerning the movement, composition, and geological history of the cap itself.”
This lead him to research test balloons. He searched the Library of Congress and found images of test balloons that look very similar to what is in some of the images.

Greenewald’s discovery makes it possible, if not likely, that the images are from test balloons being fired upon by Navy submarines. The images he found were from the early 1900s, so the question remains as to whether similar balloons were still being used in the 70s, or are the images colorized version of much older pictures. Given the misinformation that accompanied the images in the first place, it is also possible they are Photoshopped hoaxes.
Although the media has picked up on the story, few, if any, have mentioned the investigation work done by Mistretta, Greenewald, and Murillo. By leaving out this part of the story, they leave out the fact that many UFO researchers are more than just wild-eyed believers, as the media often portrays. Some are actually doing all they can to look for the truth.
Murillo’s UPARS organization will be hosting Mistretta to discuss this case on July 21, 2015 in Los Angeles. You can find more information on the UPARS Meetup site.
Nasa beefs up its team of ‘alien hunters’ – and says we may be on the verge of finding extraterrestrial life.

Nasa beefs up its team of ‘alien hunters’ – and says we may be on the verge of finding extraterrestrial life.
Nasa claims we’ll find aliens in the next 10 to 20 years – and now the agency is revving up its efforts to track them down.
The group has put together a team of ‘extraterrestrial experts’ to see if any of the planets discovered outside our solar system are habitable.
And it says that the amateur astronomers could help with its ‘unprecedented’ search for ET by access research data online.
The initiative, dubbed Nexus for Exoplanet System Science (Nexss), will include scientists from 10 universities including Stanford, the University of California and Yale.
The study of exoplanets is a relatively new field with discovery of the first exoplanet around a star like our sun was made in 1995.
Since the launch of the Kepler space telescope six years ago, more than 1,000 exoplanets have been found, with thousands of additional candidates waiting to be confirmed.
Nasa has set up a website for the public called Planet Hunters which allows anyone to search the data gathered by Kepler, since launching six years ago.
Scientists are also developing new ways to confirm the habitability of these worlds and search for biosignatures, or signs of life.
By applying a ‘system science’ approach, the team hopes to understand on an alien planet’s biology interacts with the atmosphere, geology, oceans, and interior of a planet.
The announcement comes just weeks after Nasa’s top scientist predicted we could be on the verge of finding life on one of them.
During a talk in Washington last month, the space agency announced that humanity is likely to encounter extra-terrestrials within a decade.
THE NEXSS TEAM OF ‘ALIEN HUNTERS’: WHAT WILL THEY DO?
Alien hunters from the University of Berkeley, California and Stanford are tasked with answering the question: ‘What are the properties of exoplanetary systems, as they relate to their formation, evolution, and potential to harbour life?’ They will combine astronomical observations of exoplanets and forming planetary systems with powerful computer simulations and cutting-edge microscopic studies of meteorites. The team from Arizona State University in Phoenix will take a similar approach. This research group will place planetary habitability in a chemical context, with the goal of producing a ‘periodic table of planets.’ Researchers from Hampton University, Virginia, will be exploring the sources and sinks for volatiles on habitable worlds. This research will help determine the past and present habitability of Mars and even Venus. The team centered at Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies will investigate habitability on a more local scale. It will examine the habitability of solar system rocky planets through time. The team from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, will design new spectrometers – optical instruments that measure the spectrum of light – with the stability to reach Earth-detecting precision for nearby stars. A group led the University of Nebraska-Kearney will explore the existence and evolution of exospheres around exoplanets, the outer, ‘unbound’ portion of a planet’s atmosphere. From the University of California, Santa Cruz, a group will investigate how novel maths equations can be used to extract information from light that is emitted and reflected by planetary atmospheres.
‘I believe we are going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth in the next decade and definitive evidence in the next 10 to 20 years,’ Ellen Stofan, chief scientist for Nasa, said.
‘We know where to look, we know how to look, and in most cases we have the technology.’
Jeffery Newmark, interim director of heliophysics at the agency, added: ‘It’s definitely not an if, it’s a when.’
‘We are not talking about little green men,’ Stofan said. ‘We are talking about little microbes.’
The announcement was prompted by the recent discovery of water by Nasa in surprising places.
Jim Green, director of planetary science at Nasa, noted that a recent study of the Martian atmosphere found 50 per cent of the planet’s northern hemisphere once had oceans a mile deep.
Signs of Alien Life Will Be Found by 2025, Chief Scientist Predicts
The same study found that water had been present on the red planet for up to 1.2 billion year.
‘We think that long period of time is necessary for life to get more complex,’ Stofan said.
Nasa associate administrator John Grunsfeld said he is excited about seeing what form life beyond Earth may take.
‘Once we get beyond Mars, which formed from the same stuff as Earth, the likelihood that life is similar to what we find on this planet is very low,’ he said.
‘I think we’re one generation away in our solar system, whether it’s on an icy moon or on Mars, and one generation [away] on a planet around a nearby star.
At the same conference last year, Nasa Administrator Charles Bolden made a more conservative estimate.
He claimed that we will find life within the next 20 years – with a high chance it will be outside our solar system.
Nasa next Mars rover, scheduled to launch in 2020, will search for signs of past life and bring samples for a possible return to Earth for analysis.
Nasa also hopes to land astronauts on Mars in the 2030s, which Stofan says is crucial key to the search for Mars life.
‘I’m a field geologist; I go out and break open rocks and look for fossils,’ Stofan said. ‘Those are hard to find.
‘So I have a bias that it’s eventually going to take humans on the surface of Mars — field geologists, astrobiologists, chemists — actually out there looking for that good evidence of life that we can bring back to Earth for all the scientists to argue about.’
The space agency is also planning a mission to Europa, which may launch as early as 2022. It hopes to find out whether the icy moon is habitable.
Meanwhile, the agency’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), will launch in 2018 to scope out the atmospheres of nearby ‘super-Earth’ alien planets.
UFO hunters claim they have discovered a massive alien base on the moon nine miles wide. And while scientists say its just a crater, barmy space fanatics insist it’s in fact a huge glass dome. You Tuber Tony Wilke spotted the shape in a photo of the lunar landscape taken during NASA’s Apollo missions. It comes after satellite photos of the Mars revealed unnatural shapes hailed as entrances to an underground base. “Scientists have mislabeled it as a crater, when obviously it’s a dome.”
According to Tony, who runs the YouTube channel Earth Files Earths History, the dome is approximately 250 million years old. During that time it’s suffered damage, he said, but it still stands because of a supporting beam more than two miles long. The structure is some nine miles across and at least two miles deep, it’s claimed. Quite why the aliens needed to build a giant extra-terrestrial 02 Arena out of glass is not guessed at. Scott C Waring, who edits the website UFO Sightings Daily, hit out at scientists for dismissing the find. “As you can see for yourself this is a dome on Earth’s moon,” he said. “Scientists have mislabeled it as a crater, when obviously it’s a dome. “This is mislabeled in astronomy as Harden Crater. I don’t blame the scientists. It’s just the way education goes in school.” Tony said that when the domes were first built aeons ago, the class would have been completely transparent. “When these domes were constructed and completed they were completely clear,” he said. “You could take a hundred foot by hundred foot block of glass that they make you could see perfectly clear to the other side without any distortion at all. “But this is just the result of deterioration after millions and millions of years.”
NASA Scientists & What They Say About The Moon
Moon Pyramid
Multiple NASA personnel have made some pretty shocking claims about the Moon. George Leonard, a NASA scientist and photo analyst who obtained various official NASA photographs of the Moon, many of which he published in his book titled Somebody Else Is On The Moon, is just one of these personnel. Although the photos are small in size and their resolution is not up to today’s standards, they show details of original prints which were huge. While Leonard published the identifying code numbers of the photos in his works to back up their source, we still can’t say for sure that they were real, and their poor resolution only makes matters worse. Far more compelling than these photos are his statements about what was found on the Moon, along with his verified NASA credentials. Leonard was not the only one with a credible background trying to tell the world the truth regarding the Moon and the photos that were taken from the Apollo missions. “Ladies and gentlemen, my government, NASA, which many of us in the United States say stands for Never A Straight Answer, proceeded to erase 40 rolls of film of the Apollo Program — the flight to the Moon, the flight around the Moon, the landings on the Moon, the walking guys here and there. They erased, 40 rolls of film of those events. Now we’re talking about several thousand individual frames that were taken that the so-called authorities determined that you did not have a right to see. Oh, they were ‘disruptive,’ ‘socially unacceptable,’ ‘politically unacceptable.’ I’ve become furious. I’m a retired Command Sergeant Major. I was never famous for having a lot of patience.
Moon Strutures
The quote above is from Bob Dean, who was speaking at a conference in Europe. Bob is a retired US Army Command Sargent Major, and he also served at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) of NATO as an intelligence analyst. When it comes to the UFO phenomenon, we now have public disclosure of thousands of documents along with hundreds of credible witness testimonies. It’s also important to note here that the Russian government recently called for an international investigation into the U.S. moon landings regarding the disappearance of film footage from the original moon landing in 1969. They are also referring to the (approximately) 400 kilograms of lunar rock that was obtained during multiple missions between 1969 and 1972. Leonard argued that NASA knew about extraterrestrial activity on the Moon and attempted to hide that information. He’s not the only one to make such an assertion. “Read the books, read the lore, start to understand what has really been going on, because there is no doubt that we are being visited. . . . The universe that we live in is much more wondrous, exciting, complex and far reaching than we were ever able to know up to this point in time. . . . [Mankind has long wondered if we’re] alone in the universe. [But] only in our period do we really have evidence. No, we’re not alone.” – Dr. Edgar Mitchell, ScD., NASA astronaut (6th man to walk on the moon) Here is a clip of NASA astronaut Dr. Brian O’Leary saying the same thing.
Leonard is not the only NASA scientist to say some strange things about the Moon. Recently, a plasma scientist by the name of Dr. John Brandenburg said the same thing. He was the Deputy Manager of the Clementine Mission to the Moon, which was part of a joint space project between the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) and NASA. The mission discovered water at the Moon’s poles in 1994.
Moon Glass Tower
It was (the Clementine Mission) a photo reconnaissance mission basically to check out ifsomeone was building bases on the moon that we didn’t know about. Were they expanding them? He then went on to state that: Of all the pictures I’ve seen from the moon that show possible structures, the most impressive is a picture of a miles wide recto-linear structure. This looked unmistakably artificial, and it shouldn’t be there. As somebody in the space defense community, I look on any such structure on the moon with great concern because it isn’t ours, there’s no way we could have built such a thing. It means someone else is up there. If you were to tell the average person that you think another civilization, advanced enough to have mastered space travel, had been to the Moon before we got there and is possibly still going there, you would, without a doubt, receive some very peculiar looks in return. On the other hand, if that other person were to decide to hear you out, you would probably get their attention pretty quickly. For some, this type of information can be overwhelming, even terrifying, and that’s okay. Many people are not ready to open their minds up to these possibilities, but the truth of the matter is, it’s something we are going to have to confront eventually. We are clearly heading towards the inevitable reality of extraterrestrial contact — that is, if we smarten up and start taking care of our planet to the best of our ability. Perhaps we can make it long enough to realize this future, or maybe it’s coming sooner than we think. That being said, there is a good deal of evidence to suggest that extraterrestrial contact is already happening.
There is a space-time vortex around Earth, and its shape precisely matches the predictions of Einstein’s theory of gravity. Researchers confirmed these points at a press conference at NASA headquarters where they announced the long-awaited results of Gravity Probe B (GP-B). “The space-time around Earth appears to be distorted just as general relativity predicts,” says Stanford University physicist Francis Everitt, principal investigator of the Gravity Probe B mission. ”This is an epic result,” adds Clifford Will of Washington University in St. Louis. An expert in Einstein’s theories, Will chairs an independent panel of the National Research Council set up by NASA in 1998 to monitor and review the results of Gravity Probe B. “One day,” he predicts, “this will be written up in textbooks as one of the classic experiments in the history of physics.” Time and space, according to Einstein’s theories of relativity, are woven together, forming a four-dimensional fabric called “space-time.” The mass of Earth dimples this fabric, much like a heavy person sitting in the middle of a trampoline. Gravity, says Einstein, is simply the motion of objects following the curvaceous lines of the dimple. If Earth were stationary, that would be the end of the story. But Earth is not stationary.
Our planet spins, and the spin should twist the dimple, slightly, pulling it around into a 4-dimensional swirl. This is what GP-B went to space in 2004 to check. The idea behind the experiment is simple: Put a spinning gyroscope into orbit around the Earth, with the spin axis pointed toward some distant star as a fixed reference point. Free from external forces, the gyroscope’s axis should continue pointing at the star–forever. But if space is twisted, the direction of the gyroscope’s axis should drift over time. By noting this change in direction relative to the star, the twists of space-time could be measured.
The results of Gravity Probe B give physicists renewed confidence that the strange predictions of Einstein’s theory are indeed correct, and that these predictions may be applied elsewhere. The type of space-time vortex that exists around Earth is duplicated and magnified elsewhere in the cosmos–around massive neutron stars, black holes, and active galactic nuclei. “If you tried to spin a gyroscope in the severely twisted space-time around a black hole,” says Will, “it wouldn’t just gently precess by a fraction of a degree. It would wobble crazily and possibly even flip over.” For readers who are not experts in relativity: Geodetic precession is the amount of wobble caused by the static mass of the Earth (the dimple in space-time) and the frame dragging effect is the amount of wobble caused by the spin of the Earth (the twist in space-time). Both values are in precise accord with Einstein’s predictions. -NASA http://theextinctionprotocol.wordpress. … und-earth/
Note: Our visitors have explored the space-time vortex that exists around Earth that is duplicated and magnified elsewhere in the cosmos. This concept may explain extraterrestrial space travel from distant planets to Earth in a relatively short time.

THE Hungerford UFO mystery has deepened as a man claiming to be a former Ministry of Defence policeman has broken ranks to declare: “I saw it too.”
The retired officer said an object, identical in appearance to that photographed by Vanessa Cloete over the town’s Charnham Park area last year, terrified him and a colleague as it swooped down on them above the Greenham Common nuclear missile silos.
He said an American officer dressed in black later swore him to secrecy and he has not spoken of the incident publicly until now.
We have agreed to withhold his identity because the man, who signed the Official Secrets Act for life, was warned never to speak of what he and colleagues saw that night during the late 1980s.
But the retired officer said: “It looked exactly the same as the photograph in the paper.
“I want the people in Hungerford and Lambourn who saw it to know they’re not alone and that someone believes them.”
Ms Cloete snapped this image, and many more like it, of an unidentified aerial phenomenon above her home in June last year.
Since then, others have reported seeing a similar object above the town and, subsequently, above Lambourn.
The retired officer, now in his 70s, said: “I was on patrol near the missile silos with a colleague when we tried to fill up with fuel from the pumps.
“They suddenly failed for no apparent reason and then we saw it – just like the photograph, a big, glowing ballbearing with a halo round it.
“It swooped down and my colleague said: ‘What the hell is that?’
“I know what aircraft and balloons look like. It was neither.
“It was just floating above the runway.”
After the object sped off at “an impossible speed” the officer reported it to the control room.
He said: “The control room immediately said: ‘Right – have you seen a UFO?’ before I could even tell them. How the hell did they know?”
He said the following day he was grilled by a senior army official and warned never to speak of the incident.
He added: “As I left the room I heard voices, looked back and saw a high-ranking Royal Air Force officer in conversation with a man with an American accent, wearing a black suit and carrying a black briefcase.
“They looked at me and I knew they were discussing what I’d seen.”
The retired officer said a young colleague on patrol later confessed he had seen it too and had been so terrified he had jumped over a wall and hidden.
He added: “That man told me that, when it left, it was like watching the dot on the television screen disappear – that’s how fast it went.
“It’s been on my mind ever since and the photograph brought it all back.”
Greenham Common was used by both the RAF and the United States Army Air Forces and stored nuclear warheads in silos there.

UFO Hunters ‘Discover’ Crashed Alien UFO Drone In NASA Mars Rover Photo
Online alien and UFO hunters claim they have sighted a UFO drone in a photo of the Gale Crater region of Mars captured by a NASA Mars rover. According to the YouTube UFO hunter Paranormal Crucible, a photo of the Martian terrain snapped by a Mars rover — presumably Curiosity — on Sol 64 shows an object that looks like a metallic chunk of machinery dumped on the Martian surface. Paranormal Crucible notes that the discovery was first made a few years back. But in a new set of photos uploaded to YouTube on November 1, 2015, the UFO hunter revisits the remarkable discovery that set the entire online UFO community buzzing with excitement when it was first discovered. This time around, Paranormal Crucible attempts to “clean up the photo” by enhancing features of the alleged metallic object that could help UFO researchers gain fresh insights and “shed new light” into its nature and construction. UFO Sightings Daily editor Scott Waring points out that the “cleaned up photo” gives a “new perspective” by enhancing features that give clues about what the object looked like when it was made, and what it was probably used for.
“I really like his cleaned up photo of the object and his new perspective. It gives us a chance to look at it as it was when it was made, and how it might have been used.”
Scott Waring agrees with Paranormal Crucible that the photographic evidence suggests an object of “intelligent design,” photographed presumably by Curiosity rover, in the Gale Crater region.
According to Paranormal Crucible, “In my opinion this object is an extraterrestrial drone possibly built by the indigenous Martian populace or perhaps it was deployed by an off world alien species who were exploring the Martian surface.”
However, other UFO enthusiasts who have studied the image claim that the object could be part of a bigger spacecraft, such as a component of a spacecraft’s engine or propulsion system.
Is This A UFO Drone Crashed On Mars? (Image via NASA)
Regardless, UFO and Mars anomaly hunters are unanimous that millions of years ago, Mars was home to indigenous alien races with advanced culture and civilization. While some Mars anomaly hunters believe that the ancient civilizations reached sufficient levels of scientific and technological development to build flying machines and possibly space ships, others insist that ancient Mars civilizations attained only modest standards of scientific and technological development.

But all anomaly hunters agree that ancient Martians created a young bustling civilization that generated sufficient “noise” to attract the attention of hostile aliens possessing advanced nuclear technological culture. The hostile aliens wiped out the bustling Mars civilizations by detonating a series of powerful thermonuclear devices.

These startling claims about Mars civilization were first made by a U.S. physicist, Dr. John Brandenburg, who obtained his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.
In a paper, titled “Evidence of Massive Thermonuclear Explosions in Mars Past, The Cydonian Hypothesis and Fermi’s Paradox,” presented at the 2014 Annual Fall meeting of the American Physical Society Prairie Section in Monmouth, Illinois, Brandenburg argued that data from gamma ray spectrometry conducted by NASA orbiters show evidence of radiation fallout consistent with two massive nuclear explosions on Mars. The explosions occurred on two sites on Mars where two civilizations — the Cydonian and Utopian — flourished millions of years ago, according to Brandenburg.
“Taken together, the data requires that the hypothesis of Mars as the site of an ancient planetary nuclear massacre must now be considered. Fermi’s Paradox, the unexpected silence of the stars, may be solved at Mars. Providentially, we are forewarned of this possible aspect of the cosmos.”
Mars anomaly hunters claim that evidence of eroded archaeological remains on Mars — including technological artifacts — support Brandenburg’s claim that Mars was the site of bustling ancient civilizations and culture.
UFO hunters have reported discovering remains of crashed UFOs on different sites on Mars.
In March, Mars anomaly hunters Mars Moon Space Photo Zoom Club (MMSPZC) reported sighting a flying saucer UFO abandoned on rugged Martian terrain in the Aram Chaos region of the planet.
In August, 2015, Waring reported that he sighted in a photo of the Martian terrain, snapped by NASA’s Mars Curiosity rover, a black object that looked like a space shuttle.
Some UFO enthusiasts compared the alleged spacecraft to a Star Destroyer from the Star Wars movie franchise.
ENVIRONMENTAL SPACE SCIENCES was a book taught at the Air Force Academy and written by Professor and Colonel who was the Commander of the SPACETRACK Radar Site at Shemya, Alaska. He was the originator of the Space Science Course at the USAF Academy. Col. Carpenter was kind enough to send Eastern MUFON the book he edited and wrote with six other officers. Most of the book pertains to science of space, the sun, planets, plasmas, magnetic fields, radiation, meteors, planets, space dust, Cosmo chemistry, the planets and moons. George Filer copied this chapter manually for you the reader, because I felt it was of importance, so I hope you enjoy it. All the chapters are of interest to the Ufologist, such as the Search for Extraterrestrial Life, but most important is:
CHAPTER XXXIII
THE UFO MYSTERY
Credible observers reporting incredible objects,”
said USAF General J. A. Samford in the year 1952… and his comment is still true today. Honest and intelligent people are still reporting strange objects that are difficult, and sometimes impossible, to relate to known physical phenomena. Enough attention has been brought to this serious problem that the US Government officially took action on two separate occasions. The first time was when it was thought that UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) might possibly be evidence of the technological capability of a foreign, but Earth based, power, In reaction to that possibility, the US Air Force Foreign Technology Division located at Wright Patterson Air Force Base) was given the tough job of determining whether or not the mysterious UFOs were a threat to the security of the United States. Unfortunately, many people thought that the job was to determine exactly what the UFOs were. In the years which have followed, the Air Force has been unjustly maligned for supposedly “covering up” the “real truth” about UFOs. In actuality, the Air Force did precisely the job to which it was assigned. . . it determined the extent to which the UFOs threatened national security. The extent was found to be zero! However, the public was so unhappy with the lack of any real conclusions as to the nature of the UFOs, that the Government took further actions to resolve the issue. The extent was found to be zero! However, the public was so unhappy with the lack of any real conclusions as to the nature of UFOs, that the Government took further actions to resolve the issue. As one of those actions, in 1966 it contracted for an independent scientific study to determine the real nature of UFOs. This chapter does not restrict itself to only that study but instead covers the UFO problem from a broader view.
33-1 ACQUISITION OF VALID DATA
Unidentified Flying Objects
Part of the broader view is to recognize that, in any scientific endeavor, the first step is to acquire data. The second step is to categorize the data (to portray it in systematic fashion) so that any existent relationships revealed, and the third step is to form the hypothesis. The hypothesis so formed are then tested by using them to develop and carry out experiments that yield more data. The new data are then used as a new starting point for the entire process, and the process is repeated over and over until (hopefully) adequate understanding is achieved. The UFO phenomenon frustrates this approach because the data taken so far exhibits both excessive variety and vagueness. The vagueness is caused in part by two things: (1) lack of preparation by the observer and (2) lack of timeliness by the investigator. The observer leaves his home, in only rare cases anticipating an encounter with a UFO. Photographs are overexposed or underexposed, and rarely in color. And very few people carry around a radiation counter or a magnetometer. On the other hand, the investigator may have all these tools and more with him but he arrives after the phenomena have vanished. In addition to the foregoing problems, there is a very high level of “noise” in the data. The noise consists of mistaken reports of known natural phenomena, hoaxes, reports by unstable individuals and mistaken removal of data regarding possible unnatural or unknown natural phenomena (by overzealous individuals who are trying to eliminate all data due to known natural phenomena).
An example of this type of elimination is revealed on page 141 of the ‘Bantam edition of the Condon Report (the report on the Government financed scientific study referred to earlier and headed by Dr Edward U. Condon). In one paragraph a sighting is describes as follows: Observers in the CAA (now FAA) control tower saw an unidentified dark object with a white light underneath, about the ‘shape of an automobile on end.’ That crossed the field at about 1500 feet and circles as if to come in for a landing on the E-W runway. This unidentified object appeared to reverse direction at low altitude, while out of sight of the observers behind some buildings, and climbed to about 200-3000 feet, heading away from the field on a 120-degree course. Then it went into a steep climb and disappeared into the overcast.” The Condon Report agreed with the Air Force view that this was a case of a small, powerful private plane, which almost landed at the wrong airport.
However, Dr James E. McDonald of the University of Arizona became curious about the explanation. He contacted the observers personally and found that the foregoing report was in error. The UFO did not go out of sight behind any buildings. Instead, it stopped and hovered in the air for 20 seconds or more, during which time the two observers took a good look at it with a pair of 7x binoculars. At that time the UFO was over a landmark, approximately 3,000 feet east northeast of the tower. It in no way resembled an aircraft. Both of the observers were surprised to learn that there was a Condon Project . . . no one from the Project had contacted them to verify the Air Force file data on this case. Thus, a Report, which comments strongly against many other people for not adequately investigating UFO reports before repeating them, is itself open to criticism for exactly the same thing. Such unfortunate actions raise questions as to the validity of the Report’s conclusions.
As has been just shown so dramatically, it requires considerable care to recognize and acquire valid data. In addition, those data, which do appear to be valid, exhibit an excessive amount of variety relative to the statistical samples, which are available. This has led to very clumsy classification systems, which in turn provide quite infertile ground for formulation of hypothesis.
33-2 CLASSIFICATION CATEGORIES
The very first problem you encounter, when attempting categorize data, is deciding which data pertains to the matter of interest. After all, you don’t wish to include mistaken information, which pertains to a different phenomenon. Such an action could block any chance at understanding. Therefore, you must remove all non-relevant information from your database. After that has been done to the best of your ability, you must then select a system for categorizing the remaining data. Unfortunately, no effective system has yet been devised for UFOs, although a number of such systems have been proposed. The net result is that almost all UFO data are either treated in the form of individual cases, or in the forms of inadequate classification systems. However, these systems do tend to have some common factors, and a collection of these factors follows:
Physical Characteristics
Size; shape (disc, square, ellipsoid, football, etc.) Color or colors, luminosity.
Behavior:
Number of UFOs, formation of UFOs, location (altitude, direction, etc.) patterns of paths ( climbing, zig-zagging, etc.), flight characteristics (wobbling, fluttering, etc.) time duration, periodicity of sightings, avoidance, hostility, curiosity or inquisitiveness, touch ground.
Associated Effects:
Ground disturbance (standing peaks on surface of water, dust stirred up, leaves moved, etc.). re-action to acceleration, (cars shoved backwards, etc.)
Radiation (burns, induced radioactivity etc.) Electromagnetism (compass, radio, ignition systems, etc.) . Sound (none, hissing, humming, roaring, thunderclaps, etc.) Vibration (weak, strong, slow, fast) Smell (ozone or other odor) Flame (how much, where, when, color) Smoke or cloud (amount, color, persistence) debris (type, amount, color, persistence) Inhibition of voluntary movement by observers, . Sighting of “creatures” or “beings”
After Effects:
Depressed or flattened areas, Burned areas or animals, Dead or “missing animals”. Mentally disturbed people, Missing items.
33.3 TYPES OF THEORIES
There are very few cohesive theories as to the nature of UFO’s. Those theories that are advanced do not always take into account the evidence that UFO’s are a global phenomenon, which may have persisted for many thousands of years. Such persistence is well reported, and will be commented upon shortly. Of course, the more ancient the reports the less sophisticated the observer. Not only were the ancient observers lacking the terminology necessary to describe complex devices (such as lasers or helicopters) but they were also lacking the concepts necessary to understand the true nature of such things as television, spaceships, rockets, nuclear weapons and radiation effects.
To some, the most advanced technological concept was a war chariot with knife blades attached to the wheels. By the same token, the very lack of accurate terminology and descriptions leaves the more ancient reports open to considerable misinterpretation and much more may be unintentionally read into such reports than is actually there. Therefore, if a theory does not account for the existence of UFOs over a long period of time, that does not mean that the theory is automatically wrong. On the other had, a UFO theory which does not account for the worldwide sighting of UFOs is almost certain to be in error.
As examples of some ancient and world wide evidence of UFOs, we might start with the discovery made by Tschi Pen Lao of the University of Peking. He discovered astonishing carvings in granite on a mountain in Hunan Province and on an island in Lake Tungting. These carvings have been evaluated as 47,000 years old, and they show people with large trunks. Some consider those trunks to be evidence of beings wearing breathing apparatus; however, do not forget that humans often in the past , have represented their gods as animal heads on human bodies.
Only 8,000 years ago, rocks were sculpted in the Tassili plateau of Sahara, depicting what appeared to be human beings but with strange round heads (helmets? or “sun” heads on human bodies?) And even more recently, in the Bible, Genesis (6:4) tells of angels from the sky mating with women of Earth, who bore them children. Genesis 19:3 tells of Lot meeting two angels in desert and his later feeding them at his house. The Bible also tells a rather unusual story of Ezekiel who witnessed what has been interpreted by some to have been a spacecraft or aircraft landing near the Chebar River in Chaldea (593 B.C.).
Even the Irish have recorded strange visitations. In the Speculum Regali in Konungs Skuggsa (and other accounts of the era about 956 A.D.) are numerous stories of “demonships” in the skies. In one case a rope from one such ship became entangled with part of a church. A man from the ship climbed down the rope to free it, but was seized by the townspeople. The Bishop made the people release the man, who climbed back to the ship, where the crew cut the rope and the ship rose and sailed out of sight. In all of his actions, the climbing man appeared as if he were swimming in water. Stories such as this makes one wonder if the legends of the “little people” of Ireland were based upon imagination alone.
About the same time, in Lyons (France) three men and a women supposedly descended from an airship or spaceship and were captured by a mob. These foreigners admitted to being wizards, and were killed. (No mention is made of the methods employed to extract the admissions.) Many documented UFO sightings occurred throughout the Middle Ages, including an especially startling one of a UFO over London on 16 December 1742. However, we do not have room to include any more of the Middle Ages sightings. Instead, two “more-recent” sightings are contained in this section to bring us up to modern times.
In a sworn statement dated 21 April 1897, a prosperous and prominent farmer named Alexander Hamilton (Le Roy, Kansas, U.S.A.) told of an attack upon his cattle at about 10:30 PM the previous Monday. He, his son, and his tenant grabbed axes and ran some 700 feet from the house to the cow lot where a great cigar-shaped ship about 300 feet long floated some 30 feet above his cattle. It had a carriage underneath which was brightly lighted within (dirigible and gondola?) and which had numerous windows. Inside were six strange looking beings jabbering in a foreign language. These beings suddenly became aware of Hamilton and the others. They immediately turned a searchlight on the farmer, and also turned on some power which sped up a turbine wheel (about 30 ft diameter) located under the craft. The ship rose, taking with it a two-year old heifer which was roped about the neck by a cable of one-half inch thick, red material. The next day a neighbor, Link Thomas, found the animal’s hide, legs and head in his field. He was mystified at how the remains got to where they were because of the lack of tracks in the soft soil. Alexander Hamilton’s sworn statement was accompanied by an affidavit as to his veracity. The affidavit was signed by ten of the local leading citizens.
Thus, UFO sightings not only appear to extend back to 47,000 years through time but also are global in nature. And despite the occasional hoaxes , there does exist a large body of information that appears to be valid. However, it is very difficult to advance a theory that is well supported by the erratic, and often apparently unrelated, data.
In any event, the theories that have been advanced can be collected into five groups. These are:
a. Mysticism b. Psychological Phenomena c. Advanced Technologies d. Natural Phenomena e. Aliens
Mysticism
It is believed by some cults that the mission of UFO’s and their crews is a spiritual one, and that all materialistic efforts to determine the UFO’s nature are doomed to failure.
Psychological Phenomena
Some have suggested that all UFO reports were the results of pranks and hoaxes, or were made by people with unstable personalities. This attitude was particularly prevalent during the time period when the Air Force investigation was being operated under the code name of Project Grudge.
A few airlines even went as far as to ground every pilot who reported seeing a “flying saucer.” The only way for the pilot to regain flight status was to undergo a psychiatric examination. There was a noticeable decline in pilot reports during this time interval, and a few interpreted this decline to prove that UFO’s were either hoaxes or the result of unstable personalities. It is of interest that NICAP (The National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena) even today still receives reports from commercial pilots who neglect to notify either the Air Force or their own airline.
Hoaxes have been perpetrated on numerous occasions but we will not discuss any of them in this subsection. All of us are aware that this undesirable situation exists. What we may not be aware of is that some cases are difficult to ascribe as being in either the mistaken hoax categories.
There are a number of cases which we could use to illustrate that point. One such case is the Socorro, New Mexico sighting made by police Sergeant Lonnie Zamora.
Sergeant Zamora was patrolling the streets of Socorro on 24 April 1964 when he saw a shiny object drift down into an area of gullies on the edge of town. He also heard a loud roaring noise which sounded as if an old dynamite shed located out that way had exploded. He immediately radioed police headquarters, and drove out toward the shed. Zamora was forced to stop about 150 yards away from a deep gully in which there appeared to be an overturned car He radioed that he was investigating a possible wreck, and then worked his car up onto the mesa and over toward the edge of the gully. He parked short, and when he walked the final few feet to the edge, he was amazed to see that it was not a car but instead was a weird egg shaped object about fifteen feet long, white in color and resting on short, metal legs. Beside it, unaware of his presence were two humanoids dressed in silvery coveralls. They seemed to be working on a portion of the underside of the object. Zamora was still standing there, surprised, when they suddenly noticed him and dove out of sight around the object. Zamora also headed the other way, back toward his car. He glanced back at the object just as a bright blue flame shot down from the underside. Within seconds the eggshaped thing rose out of the gully with “an earsplitting roar.” The object was out of sight over the nearby mountains almost immediately, and Sergeant Zamora was moving the opposite direction almost as fast when he met Sergeant Sam Chavez who was responding to Zamora’s earlier radio calls. Together they investigated the gully and found the bushes charred and still smoking where the blue flame had jetted down on them. About the charred area were four deep marks where the metal legs had been. Each mark was three and one half inches deep, and was circular in shape. The sand in the gully was very hard packed so no sign of the humanoids’ footprints could be found. An official investigation was launched that same day, and all data obtained supported the stories of Zamora and Chavez. It is rather difficult to label this episode a hoax, and it is also doubtful that both Zamora and Chavez shared portions of the same hallucination.
Advanced Technologies
A few individuals have proposed that UFO’s are actually advanced weapon systems, and that their natures must not be revealed. Very few people accept this as a credible suggestion.
Natural Phenomena
It has also been suggested that at least some, and possibly all of the UFO cases were just mis-interpreted manifestations of natural phenomena. Undoubtedly this suggestion has some merit. People have reported, as UFO’s, objects which were conclusively proven to be balloons (weather and skyhook), the planet Venus, man-made artificial satellites, normal aircraft, unusual cloud formations, and lights from ceilometers (equipment projecting light beams on cloud bases to determine the height of the aircraft visual ceiling). It is also suspected that people have reported mirages, optical illusions, swamp gas and ball lightning (a poorly-understood discharge of electrical energy in a spheroidal or ellipsoidal shape…some charges have lasted for up to fifteen minutes but the ball is usually no bigger than a large orange.) But it is difficult to tell a swamp dweller that the strange, fast-moving light he saw in the sky was swamp gas; and it is just as difficult to tell a farmer that a bright UFO in the sky is the same ball lightning that he has seen rolling along his fence wires in dry weather. Thus accidental mis-identification of what might well be natural phenomena breeds mistrust and disbelief; it leads to the hasty conclusion that the truth is deliberately not being told.
One last suggestion of interest has been made, that the UFO’s were plasmoids from space…concentrated blobs of solar wind that succeeded in reaching the surface of the Earth. Somehow this last suggestion does not seem to be very plausible; perhaps because it ignores such things as penetration of Earth’s magnetic field.
Aliens
The most stimulating theory for us is that the UFO’s are material objects which are either “Manned” or remote-controlled by beings who are alien to this planet. There is some evidence supporting this viewpoint. In addition to police Sergeant Lonnie Zamora’s experience, let us consider the case of Barney and Betty Hill. On a trip through New England they lost two hours on the night of 19 September 1961 without even realizing it. However, after that night both Barney and Betty began developing psychological problems which eventually grew sufficiently severe that they submitted themselves to psychiatric examination and treatment.
During the course of treatment hypnotherapy was used, and it yielded remarkably detailed and similar stories from both Barney and Betty. Essentially they had been hypnotically kidnapped, taken aboard a UFO, submitted to two-hour physicals, and released with posthypnotic suggestions to forget the entire incident. The evidence is rather strong that this is what the Hills, even in their subconscious, believe happened to them. And it is of particular importance that after the “posthypnotic block” was removed, both of the Hills ceased having their psychological problems.
The Hill’s description of the aliens was similar to descriptions provided in other cases, but this particular type of alien appears to be in the minority. The most commonly described alien is about three and one half feet tall, has a round head (helmet?), arms reaching to or below his knees, and is wearing a silvery space suit or coveralls. Other aliens appear to be essentially the same as Earthmen, while still others have particularly wide (wrap around) eyes and mouths with very thin lips. And there is a rare group reported as about four feet tall, weight of around 35 pounds, and covered with thick hair or fur (clothing?). Members of this last group are described as being extremely strong.
If such beings are visiting Earth, two questions arise: 1) why haven’t they attempted to contact us officially? The answer to the first question may exist partially in Sergeant Lonnie Zamora’s experience, and may exist partially in the Tunguska meteor discussed in Chapter XXIX. In that chapter it was suggested that the Tunguska meteor was actually a comet which exploded in the atmosphere, the ices melted and the dust spread out. Hence, no debris. However, it has also been suggested that the Tunguska meteor was actually an alien spacecraft that entered the atmosphere too rapidly, suffered mechanical failure, and lost its power supply and/or weapons in a nuclear explosion. While that hypothesis may seem far fetched, sample of tree rings from around the world reveal that, immediately after the Tunguska meteor explosion, the level of radioactivity in the world rose sharply for a short period of time. It is difficult to find a natural explanation for that increase in radioactivity, although the suggestion has been advanced that enough of the meteor’s great Kinetic energy was converted into heat (by atmospheric friction) that a fusion reaction occurred.
This still leaves us with no answer to the second question: why no contact? That question is very easy to answer in several ways: 1) we may be the objects of intensive sociological and psychological study. In such studies you usually avoid disturbing the test subjects’ environment; 2) you do not “contact” a colony of ants, and humans may seem that way to any aliens (variation: a zoo is fun to visit, but you don’t “contact” the lizards); 3) such contact may have already taken place secretly; and 4) such contact may have already taken place on a different plane of awareness and we are not yet sensitive to communications on such a plane. These are just a few of the reasons. You may add to the list, as desired.
Perhaps this is a good time to discuss another case, which also deals with aliens, although this time the case has to do with the ancient past. Let us discuss and intriguing story in one of the oldest chronicles of India . . .. the Book of Dzyan.
The book is a group of “story-teller” legends which were finally gathered in manuscript form when man learned to write. One of the stories is of a small group of beings who supposedly came to Earth many thousands of years ago in a metal craft which orbited the Earth several times before landing. As told in the Book “These beings lived to themselves and were revered by the humans among whom they had settled. But eventually differences arose among them and they divided their numbers, several of the men and women and some children settled in another city, where they were promptly installed as rulers by the awe-stricken populace.
“Separation did not bring peace to these people and finally their anger reached a point where the ruler of the original city took with him a small number of his warriors and they rose into the air in a huge shining metal vessel. While they were many leagues from the city of their enemies, they launched a great shining lance that rode on a beam of light. It burst apart in the city of their enemies with a great ball of flame that shot up to the heavens, almost to the stars. All those who were in the city were horribly burned and even those who were not in the city – but nearby – were burned also. Those who looked upon the lance and the ball of fire were blinded forever afterward. Those who entered the city on foot became ill and died. Even the dust of the city was poisoned, as were the rivers that flowed through it. Men dared not go near it, and it gradually crumbled into dust and was forgotten by men.”
“When the leader saw what he had done to his own people he retired to his palace and refused to see anyone. Then he gathered about him those warriors who remained, and their wives and children, and they entered their vessels and rose one by one into the sky and sailed away. Nor did they return.”
Could this foregoing legend really be an account of an extraterrestrial colonization, complete with guided missile, nuclear warhead and radiation effects? It is difficult to assess the validity of that explanation…just as it is difficult to explain why Greek, Roman and Nordic Mythology all discuss wars and contacts among their “Gods.” The immediate thought is that each group recorded their parochial view of what was actually a global conflict among alien colonists or visitors? That concept is chilling. . .but it (the Book of Dyzan) is not true! The entire foregoing legend is a modern day hoax that was concocted in 1965 –1966. It did not appear in the Book of Dyzan as claimed. But even if it had , that would not change things, for the Book of Dyzan is itself thought to be a hoax. The book was apparently first written in 1886 by an occultist. The reason for including this hoax at this point in this chapter is show you, in a way that you will remember, that just because someone tells you that something is true does not make it really true. You must be skeptical of all information presented both by UFO buffs and UFO detractors. As of right now there is no conclusive evidence for either side.
33.4 HUMAN REACTIONS
We have already considered some of the reasons aliens might not be too eager to contact us humans but there is another reason that ought to be brought out also. The reason is that contacting humans is downright dangerous. Think about that for a moment! On the microscopic level our bodies reject and fight (through production antibodies) any alien material; this process helps us fight off disease but it also sometimes results in allergic reactions to innocuous materials. On the macroscopic level (psychological and sociological) we are antagonistic to beings that are “different”. For proof of that, just watch how an odd child is treated by other children, or how a minority group is socially deprived, or how the Arabs feel about the Israelis (Chinese vs Japanese, Irish Catholic vs Irish Protestants.) In applying this concept to the treatment of aliens let me point out that in very ancient times, possible extraterrestrials may have been treated as Gods but in the last two thousand years, the evidence is that any possible aliens have been ripped apart by mobs, shot and shot at, physically assaulted, (in South America there is a well documented case)and in general treated with fear and aggression.
In Ireland about 1,000 AD, supposed airships were treated as “demonships.” In Lyons, France, “admitted” space travelers were killed.
More recently, on 24 July 1957 Russian anti-aircraft batteries on the Kouril Islands opened fire on UFO’s. Although all Soviet anti-aircraft batteries on the Islands were in action, no hits were made. The UFO’s were luminous and moved very fast.
We too have fired on UFO’s. About ten o’clock one morning, a radar site near a fighter base picked up a UFO doing 700 mph. The UFO then slowed to 100 mph, and two F-86’s were scrambled to intercept.
Eventually one F-86 closed on the UFO at about 3,000 feet altitude. The UFO began to accelerate away but the pilot still managed to get within 500 yards of the target for a short period of time. It was definitely saucer shaped. As the pilot pushed the F-86 at top speed, the UFO began to pull away. When the range reached 1,000 yards, the pilot armed his guns and fired in an attempt to down the saucer. He failed, and the UFO pulled away rapidly, vanishing in the distance.
This same basic situation may have happened on a more personal level. On Sunday evening 21 August 1955, eight adults and three children were on the Sutton Farm (one-half mile from Kelly, Kentucky) when, according to them, one of the children saw a brightly glowing UFO settle behind the barn, out of sight from where he stood. Other witnesses on nearby farms also saw the object. However, the Suttons dismissed it as a “shooting star”, and did not investigate. Approximately thirty minutes later (at 8:00 PM), the family dogs began barking so two of the men went to the back door and looked out. Approximately 50 feet away and coming toward them was a creature wearing a glowing silvery suit. It was about three and one-half feet tall with a large round head and very long arms. It had large webbed hands, which were equipped with claws. The two Suttons grabbed a twelve-gauge shotgun and a .22 caliber pistol, and fired at close range. They could hear the pellets and bullet ricochet as if off of metal. The creature was knocked down, but jumped up and scrambled away. The Suttons retreated into the house, turned off all inside lights, and turned on the porch light. At that moment, one of the women who was peeking out of the dining room window discovered that a creature with some sort of helmet and wide slit eyes was peeking back at her. She screamed, the men rushed in and started shooting. The creature was knocked backwards but again scrambled away without apparent harm. More shooting occurred (a total of about 50 rounds) over the next 20 minutes and the creatures finally left (perhaps feeling unwelcome?) After about a two hour wait (for safety), the Suttons left too.
By the time the police got there, the aliens were gone but the Suttons would not move back to the farm. They sold it and departed. This reported incident does bear out the contention though that humans are dangerous. At no time in the story did the supposed aliens shoot back, although one is left with the impression that the described creatures were having fun scaring humans.
33.5 SMALL SCALE SCIENTIFIC EFFORTS
Almost all-scientific efforts to date have been small scale; that is, one or two people would work on an idea, usually without either adequate time or resources. Such efforts are commendable, but rarely very successful. The nature of the problem is that adequate data can only be obtained by a large-scale effort by many investigators, and, with adequate data, real progress is almost impossible to make. We will discuss three small-scale efforts here. They are 1. ORTHOTENY (i.e., UFO sightings fall on “great circle” routes). 2. The Moon ILLUSION, and 3. The frequency plot.
Orthoteny looked promising for a time. At first, plots of sighting seemed to verify the concept but recent use of computers has suggested that even random numbers yield “great circle” plots as neatly as do UFO sightings.
On the other hand, the “moon illusion” appears to be a solid advance in knowledge. Jacques and Janine Vallee have taken a particular type of UFO — namely those that are lower than treetop level when sighted — and plotted the UFO’s estimated diameter versus the estimated distance from the observer. The result yields an average diameter of 5 meters with a very characteristic drop for short viewing distances. This behavior at the extremes of the curve is well known to astronomers and psychologists as the “moon illusion.” The illusion only occurs when the object being viewed is a real, physical object. Because this implies that the observers have viewed a real object, it permits us to accept also their statement that these particular UFO’s had a rotational axis of symmetry. Please not though that a real, physical object does not have to be an artificial phenomenon… instead it can be natural phenomenon.
Another, less solid, advance made by the Vallee’s was their plotting of the total number of sightings per week versus the date. They did this for the time span from 1947 to 1962, and then attempted to match the peaks of the curve (every 2 years 2 months) to the
times of Earth-Mars conjunction (every 2 years 1.4 months). The match was very good between 1950 and 1956 but was poor outside those limits. Also, the peaks were not only at the times of Earth-Mars conjunction but also roughly at the first harmonic (very loosely, every 13 months). This raises the question why should UFO’s only visit Earth when Mars is in conjunction and when it is on the opposite side of the sun. Obviously, the conjunction periodicity of Mars is not the final answer. As it happens, there is an interesting possibility to consider. Suppose Jupiter’s conjunctions were used; they are every 13.1 months. That would satisfy the observed periods nicely, except for every even data peak being of different magnitude from every odd data peak. Perhaps a combination of Martian, Jovian, and Saturnian (and even other planetary) conjunctions will be necessary to match the frequency plot…if it can be matched.
A more practical possibility was raised by Lt. Col. Raymond Kelley (USAF, Ret). He pointed out that any civilization of aliens was more likely to be controlled by budgetary constraints than by physical location of the area of interest. He suggested that Economists might be able to tell a great amount about the possible aliens’ financial structure by examining the fluctuations in sightings. To that suggestion we should also add the possibility of religious constraints upon business and travel. Further data correlation is quite difficult.
There are a large number of different saucer shapes but this may mean little. For example, look at the number of different types of aircraft which are in use in the U. S. Air Force alone.
It is obvious that intensive scientific study is needed in this area; no such study has yet been undertaken at the necessary levels of intensity needed. Something that must be guarded against in any such study is the trap of implicitly assuming that our knowledge of Physics (or any other branch of science) is complete. An example of one such trap is selecting a group of physical laws, which we now accept as valid, and assume that they will never be superseded. Five such laws might be:
1. Every action must have an opposite and equal reaction.
2. Every particle in the universe attracts every other particle with a force proportional to the product of the masses and inversely as the square of the distance.
3. Energy, mass and momentum are conserved.
4. No material body can have a speed as great as c, the speed of light in free space.
5. The maximum energy, E, which can be obtained from a body at rest is E=mc2, where m is the rest mass of the body.
Laws numbered 1 and 3 seem fairly safe, but let us hesitate and take another look. Actually, law number 3 is only valid (now) from a relativistic viewpoint; and for that matter so are laws 4 and 5. But relativity completely revised these physical concepts after 1915, before then Newtonian mechanics were supreme. We should also note that general relativity has not yet been verified. Thus we have the peculiar situation of five laws which appear to deny the possibility of intelligent alien control of UFO’s, yet three of the laws are recent in concept and may not even be valid. Also, law number 2 has not yet been tested under conditions of large relative speeds or accelerations. We should not deny the possibility of alien control of UFO’s on the basis of preconceived notions not established as related or relevant to the UFO’s.
33.6 MEDIUM SCALE SCIENTIFIC EFFORTS
Only two medium scale scientific efforts have been carried out. The first effort was a 2 year long study
carried out by scientists and engineers of Battelle Memorial Institute in statistical analysis of 2,199 UFO reports. The second effort was the previously mentioned, Government-financed study headed by
Dr. Edward U. Condon at the University of Colorado. Condon’s group concentrated on an intensive case by case analysis of a relatively small number of UFO reports (about 90).
Unfortunately, credence in that effort’s scientific detachment was damaged by Condon’s ill-advised statement (made when the project was just starting); “It is my inclination right now to recommend that the government get out of the business. My attitude right now is that there’s nothing to it.” Condon did not change his mind during the project . . . and he has been the subject of criticism for apparently not taking part in any field efforts.
Another point, which weakens the credence placed in that effort, in that effort is that the final report on the project went to great length to chastise others foe not researching the cases adequately, yet the Report show that Condon’s group was guilty of that also (as discussed earlier in this chapter). Furthermore the Report was written in such a fashion so as to make the final statistics difficult to obtain. That might have been accidental but it looks strange when very positive conclusions are claimed on the basis of a two-thirds sample.
Most people may not realize it but out of about 90 cases, at least 31 (and possibly 34) were left in the unknown category. Such an action is peculiar for the same branch of science that identified the positron on the basis of very few samples compared to the electron samples available. Please do not misunderstand what I am saying. The Condon Reports conclusions may well be correct . . . but they may also be quite wrong. The evidence does not seem to warrant the formation of firm conclusions at this time.
Perhaps the last thing to weaken credence in the Report was Condon’s statement (within the Report) that “Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are so far from the sun that they are too cold for life to exist there.” Any good astronomer can tell you that Condon’s statement is only true for Pluto. There is one good thing that the project did accomplish though. It performed the first cut at sifting the data so that valid data would be available for correlation studies. However, not enough total data has yet been sifted to permit reliable research on correlation (such as the “moon illusion” work, or the study to be discussed next).
Despite the lack of large amounts of thoroughly sifted data, scientists and engineers at Battelle Memorial Institute (not using the Condon Report’s data) have conducted a detailed statistical analysis. That statistical analysis produced extremely interesting results; it was based on 2,1999 UFO reports, each of which was individually and carefully evaluated (but not investigated) and categorized. The distribution of UFO sighting reports among the selected categories was as shown below in Table 33-1
Table 33-1 UFO REPORT CATEGORIZATION
Category Number Percent
Unknown 434 19,7 Insufficient Information 240 10.9 Astronomical 479 21.8 Aircraft 474 21.6 Balloon 339 15.4 Other 233 10.6 TOTAL 2,199 100.0%
The first two categories contain those sightings whose causes could not be identified. (It is more than curious that the percentage of the first two categories adds up to 30.6% . . .essentially the same as remained unidentified in the Condon Report.) The first category of the two—the UNKNOWN category—consists of sightings where the description of the object and its maneuvers could not be fitted to the patterns of any known phenomenon. Almost 20% of the reports fell in the UNKNOWN category!
The second category consists of sightings, which did not have adequate information to disallow identification as a common object or known natural phenomenon. The next three categories (astronomical, aircraft, balloon) are self-explanatory. The last category consists of birds, hoaxes, searchlights on clouds, etc. It should be emphasized again that the UNKNOWNS were not categorized that way because of insufficient information. The 2,1999 UFO sightings reports were also grouped as to the quality of the sightings, as shown in Table 33-2. Below.
QUALITY DISTRIBUTION OF REPORTS
Quality Group ALL UNKOWNS INSUFF. INFO No. % of TOTAL No. % of GROUP No. % of GROUP
An exciting discovery revealed in Table 33-2 is that, the better the quality of the report, the greater the probability that the report will be classified as UNKNOWN. That finding is totally contradictory to the often-stated authoritarian position that adequate information would enable every report to be explained as an Earth-generated phenomenon. Further statistical analysis of the characteristics of the UNKNOWN versus the KNOWNS yielded another exciting result. The result was that there was a less than 1% probability of the UNKNOWN and KNOWN observations being of the same types of things.
However, it must be re-emphasized the study did not have the benefit of data sifted on a case by case basis. Therefore, the results should not be relied upon too heavily. Furthermore, even if the results are completely valid, other explanations are possible without invoking sentient aliens. But . . . the results are still quite provocative.
33.7 A POSSIBLE LARGE SCALE SCIENTIFIC EFFORT
As pointed out earlier, the case by case approach of Condon is an excellent way to sift data so that valid data can be made available for further work. This approach could be uses as the first phase of a massive effort identify perhaps 2000 cases for further work. Then, correlation studies could be performed on that remaining data, as was done at Battelle. It is possible that such studies might reveal more information about the UFOs . . . it is also possible that they might not. After all, there might not be anything to learn. However, because of the “Condon Report’s poorly-supported conclusions, it is doubtful that any such effort will be made in the near future.
33.8 THE PROPULSION PROBLEM
One of the strongest arguments against the UFOs being spacecraft is that no known propulsions system can operate the way the UFOs are supposed to. However, remember that mankind has a lot to learn, and that there may well be many propulsive systems possible of which we know nothing as yet. For example, there is a force, which to the best of my knowledge has not yet been named. It is produced by a high frequency, high voltage electric field (with a strong gradient) when it interacts with a charge particle or plasma. Also to the best of my knowledge, this force has not been investigated by any large organization. Yet, it would seem that something like that force would be required to propel any possible alien spacecraft, which exhibits the UFO characteristics.
33.9 CONCLUSION
From available information, the UFO phenomenon appears to have been global in nature for almost 50,000 years. The majority of known witnesses have been reliable people who have seen easily explained natural phenomena, and there appears to be no overall positive correlation with population density. The entire phenomenon could be psychological in nature but that is quite doubtful. However, psychological factors probably do enter the data picture as “noise.” The phenomenon could also be entirely due to known and unknown phenomena (with some psychological “noise” added in) but that too is questionable in view of some of the available data.
This leaves us with the unpleasant possibility of alien visitors to our planet, or at least of alien controlled UFO’s. However, the data are not well correlated, and what questionable data there are suggest the existence of at least three and maybe four different groups of aliens (possibly at different states of development). This too is difficult to accept. It implies the existence of intelligent life on a majority of the planets in our solar system, or a surprisingly strong interest in Earth by members of other solar systems.
A solution to the UFO problem may be obtained by the long and diligent effort of a large group of well financed and competent scientists, unfortunately there is no evidence suggesting that such an effort is going to be made. However, even if such an effort were made, there is no guarantee of success because of the isolated and sporadic nature of the sightings. Also, there may be nothing to find, and that would mean a long search with no profit at the end. The best thing to do is to keep an open and skeptical mind, and not to take extreme positions on any side of the question.

Extremely Good Presentation - Agree with all his suppositions or not, George is a honest man with a verifiable background. Whether his assumptions are correct is the question. An educated guess based on all data definitely intimates that he is being entirely honest about all these matters from his standpoint. Doesn't mean what he was told was true - be I believe he is recounting everything as he remembers.
George A Filer was an Air Force Intelligence Officer who not only had an extraordinary encounter with a massive UFO on radar over the United Kingdom but later, in the 1970s while he was at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, but also found out that an extraterrestrial biological entity had been shot at Fort Dix.
The Extraterrestrial purportedly fled to the adjacent McGuire Air Force Base, where it died on the tarmac. He testifies that this life form was then picked up and taken to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Afterwards, many of the key personnel on the base who had a connection with this event, were quickly transferred.
Major Filer also points out that the ridicule factor has been very effective at silencing people who have seen ETs or UFOs, and has helped to maintain secrecy.
Also, occasionally, he used to do briefings on the UFO sightings that had occurred around the world, to the generals. One that sticks out in my mind is 1976 — there was a famous encounter near Tehran. He thinks these are something alien: it is a non-human [craft] that has a different form of propulsion and is coming here and doing reconnaissance...
