China’s Planning A Massive Sea Lab 10,000 Feet Underwater
China is planning to build an enormous underwater lab for research purposes; however, the country notes that "it will carry some military functions."
China plans to build a huge sea lab 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) below the surface of the South China Sea. This project is part is China’s thirteenth five-year economic plan, and it is ranked two in the country’s top 100 science and technology priorities. The purpose of this project is to help China find minerals in the waters…but it may also have military purposes.
Only a little information is available for the public as of the moment.
The platform will be movable, as noted in the recent presentation by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The deep-sea station is spearheaded by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. It will have a dozen crew on board and could stay underwater for about a month.
So. Just how feasible is this? Well, general location faces both geological and technical challenges, such as frequent occurrence of typhoons. The area is estimated to have around 125 billion barrels of oil and around 500 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. China already spent 1.42 trillion yuan ($216 billion) on research and development in 2015. So they are investing big in the project.
Notably, China previously proved that they can live up to their deepsea ambitions by setting a world record when they sent their submersible Jiaolong to descend 7 kilometers (23,000 feet) into the Indian Ocean.
Interestingly, the “Underwater Great Wall Project,” a network of sensors to help detect US and Russian submarines, has also been proposed.

Medewerkers van de NASA hebben geknoeid met beelden die bewijzen dat er buitenaardse activiteit op de maan is. Dat heeft voormalig astronautentrainer van de NASA Ralph Kennedy Johnston sr. gezegd.
De oud-adviseur van de NASA zegt met eigen ogen te hebben gezien hoe mensen van de NASA beelden bewerkten die tijdens de Apollomissies zijn gemaakt. Hij heeft besloten zijn hele archief te doneren aan het International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell.
Het gaat onder meer om kopieën van drie boeken die NASA-beelden bevatten en interviews die hij heeft gedaan. Het meeste materiaal is uniek en nooit eerder vertoond, hoewel sommige foto’s inmiddels ook online te vinden zijn en gedeeld zijn met onderzoekers.
Details wegpoetsten
Het museum beschikt over één van de grootste verzamelingen informatie over buitenaardsen en UFO’s ter wereld. Ieder jaar mag het zo’n 180.000 bezoekers verwelkomen. Er ligt ook materiaal over UFO’s opgeslagen van het Smithsonian Institution, een Amerikaans onderzoeksinstituut.
Toen Johnston in 1971 astronauten trainde in het Lunar Receiving Laboratory in het Johnson Center van de NASA, zag hij naar eigen zeggen hoe medewerkers van de Amerikaanse ruimtevaartorganisatie bepaalde details wegpoetsten op maanfoto’s.
Vernietigen
Volgens Johnston zit er een groot verschil tussen de oorspronkelijke foto’s en videobeelden en wat door de NASA beschikbaar is gemaakt voor het publiek. Hij heeft onder meer een Apollo 14-film gescreend voor een NASA-astronoom waarin vijf koepelvormige lichten in een krater te zien zijn.
Hij kreeg de opdracht om de foto’s van de maanmissies te vernietigen, terwijl hij vond dat de beelden gedoneerd moesten worden aan universiteiten of onderzoeksinstituten.
Hij gaf een aantal foto’s aan een universiteit, maar zei dat de meeste foto’s zijn verdwenen. De oud-piloot geeft geregeld lezingen en interviews over wat in zijn ogen bewijs is voor buitenaardse activiteit op de maan. Op zijn website Kenjohnstonmedia.com zijn een aantal foto’s te zien.

Het lijkt er sterk op dat scubaduiker Allen Sutten echt een ‘verloren stad’ heeft gevonden voor de kust van Tanzania. Door een ongewoon lage waterstand werden de resten van een vier kilometer lange muur blootgelegd.
Onderzoekers zeggen dat het zou kunnen gaan om Rhapta, een meer dan 2000 jaar oude stad. De verloren stad Rhapta wordt ook wel omschreven als de eerste metropool van Afrika. Het zou één van de rijkste steden van zijn tijd en een handelsknooppunt voor ijzeren wapens en schildpadden zijn geweest. Verder is er maar weinig over Rhapta bekend.
Kijk op geschiedenis veranderen
Sutten spotte de ruïnes vanuit een helikopter en besloot ze van dichtbij te bekijken. Het duurde liefst drie jaar voordat hij de exacte locatie had gevonden.
Na de ontdekking besloot professor Felix Chami van de Universiteit van Dar es Salaam naar de plek af te reizen. Hij zegt dat de vondst onze kijk op de Afrikaanse geschiedenis weleens zou kunnen veranderen.
Onderzoek verricht
Er wordt nog steeds onderzoek verricht op de plek waar de ruïnes zijn gevonden, dus op dit moment is er nog weinig bekend over de verloren stad voor de kust van Tanzania.

A UFO hunter in Vancouver caught an orange orb on video recently, using his specially outfitted UFO spotting cameras and lenses. He says the object was able to be filmed using his night vision camera, but it did not show up on his thermal, heat-sensing camera.
Charles Lamoureux has been hunting UFOs for a long time. He uses a system he calls his Skywatcher’s Mobile Unit (SMU). He says it is “fitted with Night vision, thermal camera, and regular camcorder, etc.”
Lamoureux is not one to call every light in the night sky a UFO. Often he points out birds, planes, satellites, and other more mundane objects that often get mistaken for UFOs. However, what he captured on the night of June 3rd, 2016, he cannot explain. He sent the video (seen above) to OpenMinds.tv, and gave us some information on how it was obtained.

According to Lamoureux, he first spotted the object on night vision at around 11:45 pm. It was about 2 hours into his skywatching session.
“I noticed 1 orange fuzzy object and realized it was within 200 feet from me since I had to focus the camera,” Lamoureux explained via email. “I know this because of my camera is usually set for infinity and if I have to focus when I know the object must be within 200 feet as per experience using this camera over the years.”
He says the object appeared to be sphere shaped, and he began attempting to identify what the objectwas.
“Most night vision captures I see, I can easily see wings if it’s a bird, bug or any other mundane object,” Lamoureux continued. “This object was semi translucent, so I ruled out balloon. I then followed it, and since it was fairly close, I looked directly at the sky and did not see anything.”
Lamoureux’s SMU unit also includes a thermal camera for picking up heat signatures, but the object was not being detected with it. A small bird, or other heat-emitting object, was able to be seen on the unit above the orb he was tracking. This can be seen in the video. However, although the bird can be seen in the thermal and the night vision, the orb is only seen on the night vision.
Thermal imaging shows objects that are different temperatures as different colors. Lamoureux concluded that the orb could not be seen on the thermal camera because it was either the same temperature as the air around it or colder.
Lamoureux estimates the object was at about 80 degrees over the horizon to the southwest of him. The object passed in front of buildings towards the end of his video, so using their height, he estimated the object was about 30 stories high. He says there was no wind – “not even a breeze” – leading him to believe it was not an object being carried by the air.
Lamoureux is convinced the object is unusual. He wrote, “It’s been 15 months since my last witnessed event, and I skywatch almost every clear night since. This is the real deal and for sure 100 percent spherical.”
In order to get another opinion from an experienced skywatcher and “UFO” video analysts, I asked the Mutual UFO Network’s chief video and photo analyst Marc D’Antonio to take a look.
“I looked at the video, and noticed that he is using the Luna Optics full-color MicroLux camera. The sensitivity is about 0.3 lux so it is an interesting camera,” wrote D’Antonio. “As for what he caught on the footage, it’s not very far away, it’s only about 100 feet away from him by his own admission.”

D’Antonio continued, “It appeared to me to be more like a plastic bag flying around in the air. I am not saying that is what it is, but that would account for the reason why there is no thermal signature which he thought was very important.”
D’Antonio notes that the object was filmed in a city, and there is a lot of trash blowing around. He has seen trash floating around in a city be mistaken for UFOs before.
However, D’Antonio wanted to be clear that he is not making any final conclusions, just suggesting another possibility. He also points out that the video does not provide any evidence that puts it in the “extraterrestrial category” either.
D’Antonio gave me a similar conclusion to a video I was given many years ago of an object floating around the Las Vegas strip.
Although, D’Antonio feels the object might be trash floating around the city streets, the object does appear to be spherical in shape, as Lamoureux has pointed out. At one point, it also appears to change direction.
Lamoureux’s UFO research is being featured in a French-Canadian documentary titled (translated) “Lights in the sky.” He says it is a “Very unbiased look at [UFOs],” and that “the film follows me in my travels to find answers.”
He says a French version will be aired on Canadian television soon, and an English version of the documentary is in the works.

A New York witness at Saranac Lake reported watching a sphere-shaped UFO move overhead the size of a “football stadium,” according to testimony in Case 76535 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The sphere-shaped UFO moved directly overhead under 500 and appeared to be the size of a football stadium.

The witness had gone out with friends to see a band play and the group was sitting around smoking cigarettes afterwards at 2:30 a.m. on May 13, 2016, when the incident occurred.
“I saw it coming very slowly, at first looking like something out of ‘Doctor Who’ or ‘Star Wars,’” the witness stated. “I stared at it in awe for a good 15 seconds before my brain kicked in and I realized I should point it out.”

The object had now moved directly overhead at under 500 feet.
“I could see the most beautiful blue color I’ve ever seen forming thick circles, smaller ones around the edges. At this point the ship looked spherical, like a glass planet. I saw what looked like hundreds of observation windows. I told my friends to look up, and we all watched as it very slowly, noiselessly continued onward.”
One of the friends commented that the object looked like a shuttle.
“It kind of did by the three very bright lights visible on its backside. If I hadn’t of looked up, it would have buzzed us and we would never have seen it. I live in the mountains near Canada and have spent many years searching a light pollution-less sky. I have never seen anything like this. It was comparable to having a football stadium pass right over your head, slowly and silently.”

The group watched the object until it was out of sight – about five minutes of total viewing time.

Het komt niet iedere dag voor dat je te maken krijgt met NASA klokkenluiders. Vandaag is er zo iemand en wel Dr. Ken Johnston Sr.
Een vroegere marinepiloot en één van de vier civiele consultants voor astronauten die bij NASA hebben gewerkt.
Dr. Ken Johnston heeft als consultant bij diverse afdelingen van NASA gewerkt. Zo trainde hij onder andere de astronauten die de Lunar Module moesten bedienen bij de landingen op de maan tijdens de Apollo-missies.
Johnston is getuige geweest van de manipulatie van beeldmateriaal door NASA in Houston tijdens de Apollo-reizen.
Soms komen er beelden boven water uit de privé-verzameling van Ken Johnston, zoals de volgende, waarbij duidelijk te zien is dat er zich op de maan, links van de Lunar Module, een basis bevindt.
Deze foto is gemaakt tijdens één van de Apollo missies, is door Ken onderschept bij NASA en deze foto zul je dan ook niet terugvinden in de NASA archieven. Ken heeft ook een periode gewerkt in het Lunar Receiving Lab, de plek waar de astronauten en datgene wat ze hadden meegenomen van de maan een tijdlang in quarantaine werden gehouden.
Wanneer er iets meer contrast wordt toegevoegd, wordt het beeld een stuk duidelijker en zie je ook duidelijk de structuren van gebouwen.
Enkele dagen geleden heeft Johnston Sr. op zijn website bekendgemaakt dat hij zijn complete archief met fotomateriaal zal doneren aan het UFO Museum & Research Centre in Roswell, New Mexico.
Hij doet dit omdat Ken de stad Roswell ziet als een bijzondere plek, waar heel veel mensen samen komen die belangstelling hebben voor buitenaardse zaken.
Wie belangstelling heeft voor bijzondere dingen raden wij aan te kijken naar het volgende interview dat Project Camelot aan het begin van dit jaar had met Ken Johnston Sr.
De man die zegt dat hij hele duidelijke foto’s heeft gezien van koepels en andere gebouwen op de maan en zeker weet dat er bases zijn zowel op de maan als ook op Mars.

Witness report: I saw the same object as seen in the video ‘Amazing UFO video: Flying saucer over eastern Australia?’ We were travelling along the Hume Highway towards Sydney. The object was geo-static for at least 30 minutes after I first noticed it. I did not see it fade away. We pulled off the Highway and I took a couple of still photo’s. According to the local TV news, three students have allegedly seen the entity circling Argentine city Santa Cruz before making the dramatic landing. According to a report on Notivision, locals claimed that a UFO is an extraterrestrial creature descended from its ‘vessel,’ before exerting efforts to get back on board.
It was believed that three students witnessed the EL Dorado sighting as they returned home from school. It started with a bright light when the unimaginable object occurred. Another witness claimed to have heard a very loud sound. Unfortunately, the sounds cannot be recorded because the signals went out. While there are no other ways to keep a track on the sound, it was caught on the camera before it landed. According to the reporter, a mysterious object was seen by the residents. The strange sighting was crashed on the district’s Calle 2 describing a mysterious creature that climbed a tree. Another witness told reporters that couple of eyes constantly looked at him.
It was son Friday that the strange event took place in the El Dorado district around 10 pm local time. Please remember that El Dorado district is situated in the El Bastión sector of the city. Whether or not the encounter and sighting is a genuine one has not been concluded yet, but witnesses firmly admit that it did happen. In fact, there is one resident that provided a layout of what it looked like.

A video has brought many commotions among experts after it shows an activity analogous to aUFO sighting in 1980.
The footage shows a UFO in a diamond shape, which is observed from inside a plane flying 43,000 feet above Texas in the U.S.
A man only identified as Steve was the one who recorded the video. He reportedly works as an aircraft maintenance director for a corporate jet fleet in the nation.
He apparently sent the video to SecureTeam10, a group of people who love to spend time analysing UFO sighting videos and share their findings on their YouTube channel.
Tyler of SecureTeam said that after they had watched the clip, they realised that the diamond-shaped UFO looked the same to the Cash-Landrum incident in December 1980 involving two women Betty Cash and Vicky Landrum. Cash and Landrum were on their way to their home from dinner with Colby, the seven-year-old grandson of Vicky. While travelling, they saw a large diamond object in the sky.
According to the reporting witnesses, the mysterious aerial object emitted flames from underneath and Betty got terrible burns as she got out to investigate.
Both of them said the unknown thing started to move away when 23-military-type helicopters appearedto approach it.

Richard’s letter to David Cameron asks for an interview
Chartered electrical engineer, Richard D Hall, interviewed Cameron in 2009 (before he became Prime Minister) and asked him about Dr. Edgar Mitchell, who said on a British radio station that the American government have had contact with aliens on multiple occasions and still happening at present.
The Tory chief poked fun at the question at first saying that alien life forms have been visiting Earth, and one of them was the trade secretary Peter Mandelson.
However, it looked like he changed his tone when he found out that Richard, who hosts the television show Rich Plane and runs the Rich Planet website, was serious about it.
David Cameron’s polite reply
According to Cameron, he has no idea whether ET intelligent life exists or alien sightings that have happened have any basis in truth.
He adds that UFO or alien sighting reports tend to have rational explanations and show that they are not what people who believe in UFOs suggest. However, he notes that the government should be as open as possible. He is happy to give the public a guarantee that he is open and frank about it because it‘s not something that any government should hide from anybody.

The truth is, there has been a sequence of famous sightings by politicians and celebrities. Boxing and world’s heavyweight champion Muhammed Ali claimed to have spotted strange objects on different occasions. This boxing legend was an avid alien believer and claimed to have spotted and encounter beings that were shrouded in mystery and secrecy. Ali even claimed to have seen a huge alien Mothership that bears a resemblance to the ETs He also believed that alien visitations were very much relevant to the whole world. Though aliens have a blank space regarding who they are and what they are, Ali believes that they are friendly visitors from another world.
In a tribute online, Mr. Green Beckley used extracts from a book about celebrities with extraterrestrial experiences to discover Ali’s thoughts on them. Beckley had four meetings with the legend boxer when they discussed aliens. In the book, it stated that Ali spotted one in the park and later at his home in New York City. The second sightings reportedly had a glowing red trail behind it. In his book, he continued that he brought the attention to his trainer, who was standing nearby. Both of them watched behind the skyline, which moved slowly across the sky for at least 15 minutes. Later on, he finds out there were other sightings on that same night, including the Newark Airport sighting. Due to the numerous times he spotted strange objects, he wrote in a book saying how the aliens were playing tag among the stars. At the end of the day, both Ali and the author had one final formal, but short meeting about the aliens. Mr. Beckley recalled that Ali always speaks his mind.

Here’s one new footage of a bright unidentified flying object hovering in the sky above Mesa, Arizona.
Witness report: On Saturday night, 16 March 2013, starting at 2150 to 2209, I recorded the following lights crossing the Mesa, Arizona skyline. I was on the second floor of an apartment complex on Lindsey and US-60. I was going to close the blinds in my daughter’s room when the incident occurred. The reason I find this interesting is that there are 2-red vertical lights that slowly moved from the North-West to the East. Possibly coming from the Anthem, Cave Creek Area headed toward Superstition Mountains. An aircraft is supposed to have green lights on this side. Red was the only light visible throughout the whole recording and it was steady and never rotated or moved out of position. At about 11-minutes into filming the top light begin to fade than went out. At 15-minutes 20 seconds the second light began to fade than went out. Near the end of the filming I do show an aircraft landing at Falcon Field. I have 21-years in Naval Aviation as an Aviation Ordnanceman working on Fixed & Rotary Wing aircraft and there weapons; and 6-years in the Aerospace Industry. Three of those were manufacturing Military Helicopters and three were in Iraq & Afghanistan as a Contractor with numerous Army Medivac Units. I have been in combat situations both in the Navy and as a Contractor. With all this said, I know for a fact these are not Military Flares or other ordnance. As far as an Air Ship, Balloon or other type of aircraft, I am 99% sure it is not. I do not know of any aircraft like this or that has formation lights like this and/or then extinguishes itself. There were no clouds or haze this night. It was a comfortable cool air. As far as a shape, I could not tell. I did try to look for something that would identify its shape and transparency but did not find any evidence of it. It was too far away to determine if it had a sound. I can only guesstimate the object(s) were 8-10 miles from me.
More than 100 people are said to have seen a UFO fleet make a triangle formation.
Yesterday Express.co.uk exclusively revealed how a female pilot claimed she and her boyfriend were left with a "life-changing" experience after seeing "four UFOs" in the desert during the Contact in the Desert conference in the Joshua Tree National Park, California, which is one of the world's biggest ET conferences.
The woman, who is also a lawyer and has yet to be named, said the possible alien spacecraft appeared on Saturday evening during a special skywatch event in a report to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) which investigates UFO cases across the globe.
Now a second report about the incident has been filed with MUFON, claiming there were MORE UFOS, and that more than 100 people witnessed the strange triangle formation.
Kristie Cowans has filed a report to MUFON, claiming there was an attempt by the skywatchers known as CE-5 contact, to summon the presence of UFOs through meditation, before the phenomenon.
She said it took place at 10pm local time on Saturday and she had stargazing binoculars and a green laser.
She pointed out there was a small airport to the south and a Marine Base north-east of them, but all the "UFO" activity came from the west going due east.
She wrote: "As we began I was able to spot many stars, planets, planes and satellites as part of the process of really looking at what was above us-then the unexpected happened.
"There was a parade of seven orbs/UFOs flying faster than satellites and as high as planes & helicopters from west over the mountains and disappearing to the east.
"The colours of the orbs were bright, but a diffused soft green, diffused soft red, and diffused soft lilac blue, with the blue one being larger than the others."

"The type of glow was unlike anything I have ever seen in my research on military drones as my skeptical mind considered this possibility.
"They did not look like drones - I saw no structures connected to the glowing lights, the glowing light floated independent of any structure."
The unnamed pilot previously independently reported seeing five of the coloured UFOs.
She described how the first UFO zipped overhead, followed by a third, fourth and fifth, the three of which then formed a triangle formation.
The woman and her boyfriend said they have been left profoundly affected by what they saw and estimated around 30 people in total would have witnessed the event.
Contact in the Desert is a four-day annual event held in the remote desert with several UFO and alien expert speakers and the opportunity for skywatching.
Their sighting and a short video showing the triangle formation is now being investigated by MUFON.
In her report to MUFON, the woman said: "We are both highly educated, professional people with an interest in UFOs.
"He is a Management Consultant and I am an attorney. I am also a private pilot."
She said the pair queued for about an hour for the "Night Vision Experience" which involved scouring space with military grade night vision goggles from around 10pm local time.
She said: "There was a yell from another participant.
"We swung our goggles to look in the northerly direction. I focused on a white, glowing object which looked like a ball of light with fuzzy edges coming over the horizon rather fast, traveling west to east and then slowlydisappearing.

The formation was said to be similar to this one previously snapped by UFO chasers.
"Process of elimination set in: Not a plane, helicopter because no blinking lights.
“Fuzzy edges, ball shaped.
“Not a satellite because too low on the horizon and moving too fast. These objects were large enough and bright enough to be seen with the naked eye."
She said as they watched, a second object, blue in colour, "came out of the west and traveled rapidly to the east”.
It was ball shaped, glowing, with fuzzy edges, and slowed down, she said.
She added: "The third object then came from the west, this time green in colour. Same shape, characteristics as above. This one slowed down also.
"The fourth, object, I'm uncertain about the colour as people were now very excited and many thoughts were racing through my mind.
"Now, the second, third and fourth object had slowed to a triangle formation. With the apex of the triangle facing up. They did not stop but kept moving to the east."
"Ever since that evening, my boyfriend and I have been processing this event.
"Since then, we have not stopped thinking about what we saw. We are both logical, sane people.
"Neither one of us has ever experienced anything like it in our lives.
"We cannot stop thinking about what we saw at Joshua Tree."
Sceptics suggest that at events where many people attend, particularly when they want to see something, mass hysteria can kick in, an the memory becomes distorted or embellished.
Others have said that drones could be the cause of the sighting, and with it being a UFO conference taking place, it could have been pranksters flying them overhead at the time of the skywatch.
The meteor, which was filmed on phones and dashcams, prompted calls from shocked locals to police and even paranormal UFO investigators.
The fireball was seen streaming over Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky and Michigan.
Videos of the meteor have been uploaded to social media after sightings across the USA mid-west, with claims it was "a flash that fell from the sky".
Even the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), the world's biggest organisation for investigating alleged alien and UFO sightings, was contacted by open-jawed witnesses, claiming to have seen the fireball in Arizona, where one was reported just three days earlier.

Tom Stolze, who runs the website O'Fallonweather.org, posted a video showing the bright light soaring over houses in O'Fallon, Missouri.
While a witness from Wendelin, Illinois, wrote on the American Meteor Society (AMS) website: "It looked like one of the more expensive fireworks shooting down instead of up. I could have sworn it landed in the field I was driving by."
Another user added: "I saw a streak of white light followed by a burst of yellow/orange before the object disappeared."
The sightings came just days after a fireball lit up the skies and was captured in fantastic footage over Arizona.
According to the AMS several thousands of meteors fall each day, but most cannot be seen in daylight, and many more fall over the ocean where no one can see them.
The website said: "Additionally, the brighter the fireball, the more rare is the event."

Le phénomène a été immortalisé par plusieurs témoins ce mercredi. La question était sur toutes les lèvres: que se passe-t-il dans le ciel carolo? Une fusée? Une boule de feu? Une comète? Selon RTL, qui a interrogé des spécialistes de l’IRM, il pourrait s’agir d’une météorite ou pourquoi pas «de déchet de l’espace».

Is het Eddy Wally zaliger die uit een vliegmachine springt? Of toch een UFO? Het geheimzinnige voorwerp dat gisteren boven Charleroi werd gefilmd was een raadsel voor velen. Maar aan alle mensen die in buitenaards leven geloven: de Koninklijke Sterrenwacht liet zopas weten dat het niet om E.T. en zijn volgelingen gaat, maar om een vliegtuig.
Gisteren vloog er een vreemd voorwerp in de regio rond Charleroi. Was het een meteoor, een komeet of een UFO? Da's moeilijk in te schatten, zei Jan Cuypers van de Koninklijke Sterrenwacht deze morgen nog aan VRT Nieuws.
"Het is niet onmogelijk dat het gaat om een meteoor of restanten van een satelliet, maar het is wel erg onwaarschijnlijk", vertelt Jan Cuypers. "Eerst en vooral hebben we enkel weet van meldingen in dezelfde - kleine - regio, terwijl een meteoor op veel meer plaatsen zou moeten te zien zijn. Op de beelden zien we ook dat het verschijnsel zich boven de wolken heeft voorgedaan en dat je bovenaan een einde ziet aan het traject. De kans dat het iets uit de ruimte is, is dus klein."
Tip brengt uitsluitsel
Na een nieuwe tip deze namiddag is het bijna zo goed als zeker wat ons zo in de ban hield, vertelt Cuypers aan VRT Nieuws. Het zou gewoon om een vliegtuig gaan. "De zon zat op sommige plekken echter op een goede plaats waardoor de schaduw van het vliegtuig op de condensstreep viel, die zo op rook leek. Honderd procent zeker ben je in deze gevallen nooit, maar die verklaring lijkt mij zeer waarschijnlijk."

Tientallen mensen maakten woensdagavond melding van een "mysterieus voorwerp" boven ons land. Vooral de inwoners van Charleroi zagen de "oranje vuurbal" duidelijk aan de hemel. Sommigen dachten dat het een komeet was, anderen hadden het over een ufo. Na onderzoek komt de Koninklijke Sterrenwacht van België met een verklaring.
Enkele inwoners van Charleroi meldden het vreemde voorwerp woensdagavond aan RTL. Meteen deden geruchten de ronde dat het om een meteoor zou gaan of een stukje puin van een raket. Sommigen dachten zelfs aan een ufo.
De Koninklijke Sterrenwacht van België ging op zoek naar de juiste verklaring. Daar werd al meteen duidelijk dat het zeker geen komeet was. "Daarna bekeken we of het misschien een meteoor was", zegt astronoom Jan Cuypers. "Ook die optie konden we uitsluiten. Een meteoor is meestal maar korte tijd zichtbaar en er is zelden tijd om foto's te nemen. Bovendien hing het voorwerp te laag in de lucht en bewoog het te trag om een meteoor te zijn."
Daardoor werd al snel gedacht dat het om een "aards voorwerp" ging. Een brandende wensballon, een raketje dat gelanceerd was vanop de aarde of een drone... Alle mogelijkheden werden bekeken.
"We hadden er echt het raden naar, tot we telefoon kregen van een man uit Oudenaarde", aldus Cuypers. "Hij vertelde ons dat hij het voorwerp ook gezien had, maar dat het er helemaal niet zo vreemd uitzag vanuit zijn standpunt. Een man uit Charleroi zei bovendien aan RTL dat hij het voorwerp vijf minuten gevolgd had."
Daardoor werd de echte aard van het voorwerp ontdekt. "Het "mysterieuze voorwerp" was gewoon een vliegtuig", klinkt het. "Een vliegtuig laat normaal witte condenssporen achter. Door de stand van de zon werd echter een uitzonderlijke schaduw op het vliegtuig en het spoor geworpen. Daardoor leek het even op een "oranje vuurbal"."

A UFO enthusiast has shared footage which he believes shows a massive unidentified craft hidden in a cloud formation.
Scott Wareing has put this video online after he said he though the cloud rectangle, captured on May 12, was impossible.
He believes the cloud, recorded in Belgium, was hiding a "weird, giant saucer", and has even shared other instances of this on his website, UFO Sightings Daily.
Scott, who lives in Taiwan, wrote: "It is a well known fact that not only do UFOs hide in clouds, but they actually create the cloud around them.
"...The 1957 Fort Belvoir, Virginia, incident is an example of this. Back then a soldier took photos of a black UFO ring that headed over the base, but change from a ring to a disk cloud in just under a minute."
