MUFON's mission is the analytical and scientific investigation of the UFO- Phenomenon for the benefit of humanity... Je kan ook hun site bekijken onder www.mufon.com. Ze geven een maandelijks tijdschrift uit, namelijk The MUFON UFO-Journal. Since 02/01/2020 is Pieter ex-president (=voorzitter) of BUFON, but also ex-National Director MUFON / Flanders and the Netherlands. We work together with the French MUFON Reseau MUFON/EUROP.

Q&A: The Anthropology of Searching for Aliens

Before we can understand an alien civilization, it might be useful to understand our own.

To help in this task, anthropologist Kathryn Denning of York University in Toronto, Canada studies the very human way that scientists, engineers and members of the public think about space exploration and the search for alien life.

From Star Trek to SETI, our modern world is constantly imagining possible futures where we dart around the galaxy engaging with bizarre alien races. Denning points out that when people talk about these futures, they often invoke the past. But they frequently seem to have a poor understanding of history.

For instance, in September at the 100 Year Starship Conference — a symposium created by DARPA for thinking about long-term spaceflight goals — Denning noted that the conference was framed as an extension of old traditions of exploration, for example mentioning Ferdinand Magellan as an exemplary hero who circumnavigated the globe. Not only did Magellan not circumnavigate the globe (he was dismembered in the Philippines before finishing the task), his mission was not entirely laudable.

“It’s easy to forget that it’s also a story of slavery, war, betrayal, hardship, violence, and death — not just to those who signed up for the journey, but a lot of innocent bystanders,” Denning said during a talk March 30 at the Contact Conference, an annual meeting dedicated to speculation about SETI and space exploration. The misuse of the past matters when thinking about the future, she added, because it deludes people, giving them a poor understanding of how history actually moves.

Wired spoke to Denning about contact with extraterrestrials, the rhetoric of the Space Age, and what it means to be human in the universe.

Wired: What does the field of anthropology bring to thinking about space exploration and SETI?

Kathryn Denning: Anthropologists are good at looking at discourses, and the stories that people tell to structure their lives and their behavior. So there are anthropologists working on the discourse surrounding interstellar flight. And anthropologists have always worked on the phenomenon of UFO abductions and aliens on Earth and that sort of stuff.

With respect to SETI, one of the main contributions is just grounding all of that speculation about other civilizations in actual physical data. In terms of civilization or civilizations, we only have one example — Earth.

And there’s a lot of data here, which has been very poorly mined so far. If people are drawing generalizations about civilizations elsewhere in the universe that don’t even hold here on Earth, then maybe we should throw them out.

Wired: What are some instances of wrong ideas about civilization that get invoked in talking about extraterrestrials?

Denning: I think one good example is the variable of L, the lifetime of civilizations, which dominates the Drake equation. [An estimate of the number of intelligent extraterrestrials that could exist in our galaxy.]

The speculation on this has been frankly goofy sometimes. I mean you can make up basically any value of L that you like and justify it in some way. So people say we should try to use Earth’s data to look at it. We should ask what really does cause civilizations to collapse or revert to a lower order of complexity or technological regime.

And, well, we’re still working that one out actually. We have so much work to do and I think that’s important for people to understand that our models of civilization here on Earth are not as solid as popular culture frequently assumes them to be.

Similarly, many people hold outdated ideas regarding scenarios of contact. We have our iconic case studies, such as Columbus landing in the Americas or Cortez and the Aztecs. But most of those have been revamped with additional historical work in even just the last 30 or 40 years.

So when I hear that standard model of Columbus or Cortez, frankly I want to roll my eyes. For example [Steven] Hawking says — interminably and repeatedly — that when Columbus showed up in the Americas, well, that didn’t turn out very well for the Native Americans. And therefore we should similarly be worried about trying to attract the attention of an alien civilization.

The problem is that it tends to misrepresent Earth’s history. These stories get invoked in models of contact with an alien society, but it’s a biased retelling of Earth’s history and it’s usually not a very good one.

The underlying narrative there is that it went poorly for the Native Americans because they were the inferior civilization. And, by extension, it would go poorly for us because the other party would be the superior civilization. But that simply wasn’t the case for the Native Americans.

One of the reasons I do the work I do is to try and have people get the history a little bit straighter.

Wired: There is an oft-heard narrative for alien contact: after we find a signal, it would revolutionize everything, and humanity would put aside their differences and come together as one. How do you take that narrative as an anthropologist?

Denning: One way to read that, in the most general sense, is that it’s a narrative that makes us feel better.

One of the things that astronomy and space exploration in the 20th century has done is force us to confront the universe in a way that we never did before. We had to start understanding that, yeah, asteroids impact the earth and can wipe out a vast proportion of life, and our planet is a fragile spaceship Earth.

I think this has given us this sort of kind of cosmic anxiety. And it would make us feel a whole lot better if we had neighbors and they were friendly and they could enlighten us.

One of the things that runs through the whole SETI discussion is our problems with technology. There is an inherent assumption that the equipment needed for communication across interstellar space would necessarily evolve in tandem with weapons of mass destruction. Therefore any society that survived long enough to make contact with us would have solved their technological problems.

I think that’s a very hopeful take on it. These stories of contact and what it would do for us, they’ve emerged in concert with these anxieties about the universe and questions about our technology. I think in some way it’s almost like a coping mechanism.

Wired: In terms of space exploration, you’ve said that it’s like we’re entering a new Space Age. Why do you say that and what does it mean?

Denning: I think the biggest difference from the past is the role of corporations. Obviously nation-states have always used contractors, but they’re now achieving a degree of independence that is unprecedented.

When you have private companies that are planning on flying not just to the moon but also to Mars, that’s new and that’s different. We don’t have the government systems in place to deal with that sort of stuff because the outer space treaty and all our international agreements are geared toward nation states.

There are new legal discourses emerging but nothing moves as fast as private enterprise. It’s been specifically set up to move quickly, so nothing moves as fast as, say, the X prize.

Wired: The 1950s/60s Space Age often invoked the rhetoric of colonization or frontierism in thinking about their goals. How do these ideas play out in modern space exploration?

Denning: The ideological stages of colonization are still well underway. As soon as you have technology on another world, that constitutes a de facto claim of some kind. So, in a way, everyone watching Spirit and Opportunity are watching Mars through these robot’s eyes.

That’s not just an interesting kind of little jaunt; it’s a way of making Mars not only human but also American. When you’re naming features on other worlds after people here, these things constitute claims.

For example, NASA renamed the Mars Pathfinder lander the “Carl Sagan Memorial Station.” Any archeologist or anthropologist will tell you that one of the most effective ways of colonizing territory, at least ideologically, is through your dead.

Wired: Is there something you’d like to see as the narrative of the new Space Age?

Denning: I’m going to borrow a term here from a scholar named Bill Kramer. He spoke at the 100-Year Starship Conference and he suggested that instead of boldly going, we humbly go.

To me that really encapsulates it. Instead of getting out there as quickly as possible and using the systems that we used here on Earth, like extracting resources as quickly as possible in order to fuel whatever it is that we’re trying to do. What if we went instead with a collaborative, conservationist stewardship in mind?

What if instead of making messes that we don’t know how to clean up, what if we slowed down a little bit? Because the urgency is manufactured. I mean, I want to see space continue to be explored. It’s cool, and there’s stuff out there that we would like to know.

It doesn’t have to be the answer to all of our needs. Sure, we can harvest sunlight from solar arrays in orbit around the Earth but that’s going to have its own technological problems and geopolitical implications.

But the main problem with energy and resources here on Earth isn’t always that we don’t have enough: it’s that the distribution is unequal, and simply harvesting more is not going to resolve that. Chances are it’s just going to continue to increase inequity, and that doesn’t work well for anyone.

I think what everybody should be learning is that these immense disparities cause profound instabilities, which you have to continue to have to deal with. So I just don’t see it as the answer.

Space colonization is held up as being the natural next stage in our social evolution. Not only that, it’s an absolute necessity for the survival of the species. But if we are our own existential threat, then how does that follow? Wherever we go, there we are.

So the suggestion that ever increasing technology is the solution to problems that have been created by our technology is barking mad.

Wired: In some sense, we have a deterministic view of history when it comes to space exploration: We will go from airplanes to spaceships to conquering the galaxy. Where does that narrative come from and what do you see as some of the downsides of it?

Denning: I think it comes from two places. One is a specific version of history that’s quite progressivist and techno-philic. It’s a version of history that says we just increase in our energy consumption, we increase in our complexity and we increase our goodness. It all ratchets up together, and it’s a kind of Singularity argument.

But it’s combined with this fundamentally apocalyptic view that the current order of things will one day be superseded by another. That’s kind of a Judeo-Christian thing. And it’s sort of a funny coincidence that the future is up there [points skyward]. In many popular space narratives, the heavens and Heaven really swap out. It sounds pretty glib but it’s so frequently suggested that it’s hard to dismiss.

The idea is that longevity – immortality, in fact — the future and our destiny are all up there. And there’s simply no logical reason that should be the case. We have no evidence suggesting we can live anywhere for long periods of time other than on this planet. In fact, the evidence is steadily accumulating that’s it’s going to be really hard to do anything else.

We have problems with bone loss and blindness. Plus we have no evidence that we can reproduce safely in space. These are fairly big stumbling blocks and so this vision of a happy shiny future in space, it’s just so mythic.

Wired: Do you see that as changing, do you think people are coming to understand the problems with the previous narratives?

Denning: I think some are and this is one of the glories of humanity. But we’ll always have a tremendous diversity of opinion.

You’re always going to have these people who think Heaven and the heavens are interchangeable. And they’re going to be looking toward the stars for all kinds of religious or quasi-religious purposes.

Then you’re going to have the extension of the planetary protection mode of thinking. The people who are fundamentally thinking about environmentalism and stewardship and inequity. And then you’re going to have the people interested in militarization, and so on.

You’re always going to have this diversity of viewpoints, of motivations, and behaviors, and I mean: Welcome to Earth.

Wired: You write in a paper (.pdf) that someone in “the physical sciences might say ‘aha, here you have X which, by analogy, means that you must have Y, which means you have Z.’” On the other hand, “a scholar in the human sciences will often not venture past X.”

Denning: Right, we rarely get as far as Z. Most of the time, anthropology is not working as explicitly with a predictive model, it’s a much more descriptive model.

Wired: How do you see that difference between the physical and social sciences play out in the SETI discourse?

Denning: I think there’s been a lot of interesting discussion around the question of whether or not decipherment of an extraterrestrial signal would be possible.

Anthropologists tend to assume the answer is, basically, no. Unless you’re in direct contact, it would be very difficult to establish enough common language. Whereas the physicists and mathematicians tend to say, ‘Well all you need is math.’

And then the anthropologists laugh and it goes on. Maybe that tells you more about the various disciplines than about whether or not contact is possible, but that’s an entertaining and interesting problem.

Wired: What do anthropologists say when they look at the enterprise of SETI? That is, what does it say about us as humans that we are searching for others like ourselves in the universe?

Denning: It’s an interesting question and you can look at it in different ways. In one sense, its just the extension of a long tradition on thinking about what might be out there, which has just gone through a new technological manifestation.

Some people ask me: When did we first start thinking that there might be extraterrestrial life? And my reply is: When did we start thinking that there might not be? The sky has always been very busy, and the default position has always been that it’s populated. That doesn’t mean anything but that ideological substrate has always been there.

Only 200 years ago, we thought there could be people on the moon. Then, we got a good look at the moon and saw, well there’s no Lunarians there. And then there were the Martians — Lowell and all that — and it wasn’t very long ago, less than 100 years ago. As our range of vision keeps on moving outwards, the aliens keep on moving outwards too. And that’s one way you can look at SETI; it’s the logical trajectory of an idea that’s always been around.

And, of course, you can look at it within a religious framework. Our 20th century western culture includes Christianity and beings populating the Heavens. But anthropologically speaking, SETI also could be seen as being a reaction to the collapse of traditional religion.

In a universe where you’re no longer expecting God to provide the order, we are forced to ask: where is the order? Where’s the sense to it all and what are we then a part of?

    Dyatlov Pass incident

The Dyatlov Pass incident resulted in the deaths of nine ski hikers in the northern Ural mountains on the night of February 2, 1959. It happened on the east shoulder of the mountain Kholat Syakhl (Холат Сяхл) (a Mansi name, meaning Mountain of the Dead). The mountain pass where the incident occurred has since been named Dyatlov Pass (Перевал Дятлова) after the group's leader, Igor Dyatlov (Игорь Дятлов). The lack of eyewitnesses has inspired much speculation. Soviet investigators determined only that "a compelling unknown force" had caused the deaths. Access to the area was barred for skiers and other adventurers for three years after the incident.[1] The chronology of the incident remains unclear because of the lack of survivors.[2][3]

Investigators at the time determined that the hikers tore open their tent from within, departing barefoot into heavy snow and a temperature of −30°C. Although the corpses showed no signs of struggle, two victims had fractured skulls, two had broken ribs, and one was missing her tongue.[1] Their clothing, when tested, was found to be highly radioactive.[1]

    [edit] Background

A group was formed for a ski trek across the northern Urals in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Свердло́вская о́бласть). The group, led by Igor Dyatlov, consisted of eight men and two women. Most were students or graduates of Ural Polytechnical Institute (Уральский Политехнический Институт, УПИ), now Ural State Technical University:

    1. Igor Alekseievich Dyatlov (Игорь Алексеевич Дятлов), the group's leader, born January 13, 1936
    2. Zinaida Alekseievna Kolmogorova (Зинаида Алексеевна Колмогорова), born January 12, 1937
    3. Ludmila Alexandrovna Dubinina (Людмила Александровна Дубинина), born January 11, 1936
    4. Alexander Sergeievich Kolevatov (Александр Сергеевич Колеватов), born November 16, 1934
    5. Rustem Vladimirovich Slobodin (Рустем Владимирович Слободин), born January 11, 1936
    6. Yuri Alexeievich Krivonischenko (Юрий Алексеевич Кривонищенко), born February 7, 1935
    7. Yuri Nikolaievich Doroshenko (Юрий Николаевич Дорошенко), born January 12, 1938
    8. Nicolai Vasilievich (Vladimirovich?) Thibault-Brignol (Николай Васильевич (Владимирович?) Тибо-Бриньоль), born June 5, 1935
    9. Alexander Alexandrovich Zolotariov (Александр Александрович Золотарёв), born February 2, 1921
    10. Yuri Yefimovich Yudin (Юрий Ефимович Юдин), born 1937

The goal of the expedition was to reach Otorten (Отортен), a mountain 10 kilometers north of the site of the incident. This route, at that season, was estimated as "Category III", the most difficult. All members were experienced in long ski tours and mountain expeditions.

The group arrived by train at Ivdel (Ивдель), a city at the center of the northern province of Sverdlovsk Oblast on January 25. They then took a truck to Vizhai (Вижай) - the last inhabited settlement so far north. They started their march toward Otorten from Vizhai on January 27. The next day, one of the members (Yuri Yudin) was forced to go back because of illness.[1] The group now consisted of nine people.

Diaries and cameras found around their last camp made it possible to track the group's route up to the day preceding the incident. On January 31, the group arrived at the edge of a highland area and began to prepare for climbing. In a woody valley they cached surplus food and equipment that would be used for the trip back. The following day (February 1), the hikers started to move through the pass. It seems they planned to get over the pass and make camp for the next night on the opposite side, but because of worsening weather conditions, snowstorms and decreasing visibility, they lost their direction and deviated west, upward towards the top of Kholat Syakhl. When they realized their mistake, the group decided to stop and set up camp there on the slope of the mountain.

    [edit] The search

It had been agreed beforehand that Dyatlov would send a telegraph to their sports club as soon as the group returned to Vizhai (Вижай). It was expected that this would happen no later than February 12, but when this date had passed and no messages had been received, there was no reaction—delays of a few days were common in such expeditions. Only after the relatives of the travelers demanded a rescue operation did the head of the institute send the first rescue groups, consisting of volunteer students and teachers, on February 20.[1] Later, the army and police forces became involved, with planes and helicopters being ordered to join the rescue operation.

On February 26, the searchers found the abandoned and badly damaged tent on Kholat Syakhl. A chain of footprints could be followed, leading down toward the edge of nearby woods (on the opposite side of the pass, 1.5 km north-east), but after 500 meters they were covered with snow. At the forest edge, under a large old cedar, the searchers found the remains of a fire, along with the first two bodies, those of Yuri Krivonischenko and Yuri Doroshenko, shoeless and dressed only in their underwear. Between the cedar and the camp the searchers found three more corpses—Dyatlov, Zina Kolmogorova and Rustem Slobodin—who seemed to have died in poses suggesting that they were attempting to return to the tent.[1] They were found separately at distances of 300, 480 and 630 meters from the tree.

Searching for the remaining four travelers took more than two months. They were finally found on May 4, under four meters of snow, in a ravine in a stream valley further into the wood from the cedar tree.

    [edit] Investigation

A legal inquest had been started immediately after finding the first five bodies. A medical examination found no injuries which might have led to their deaths, and it was concluded that they had all died of hypothermia. One person had a small crack in his skull, but it was not thought to be a fatal wound.

An examination of the four bodies which were found in May changed the picture. Three of them had fatal injuries: the body of Thibeaux-Brignolle had major skull damage, and both Dubunina and Zolotarev had major chest fractures. According to Dr. Boris Vozrozhdenny, the force required to cause such damage would have been extremely high. He compared it to the force of a car crash. Notably, the bodies had no external wounds, as if they were crippled by a high level of pressure. One woman was found to be missing her tongue.[1] There had initially been some speculation that the indigenous Mansi people might have attacked and murdered the group for encroaching upon their lands, but investigation indicated that the nature of their deaths did not support this thesis; the hikers' footprints alone were visible, and they showed no sign of hand-to-hand struggle.[1]

Although the temperature was very low (around −25° to −30°C) with a storm blowing, the dead were only partially dressed. Some of them had only one shoe, while others had no shoes or wore only socks.[1] Some were found wrapped in snips of ripped clothes that seemed to have been cut from those who were already dead. However, up to 25 percent of hypothermia deaths are associated with so-called "Paradoxical undressing".[4] This typically occurs during moderate to severe hypothermia, as the person becomes disoriented, confused, and combative. They may begin discarding their clothing, which, in turn, increases the rate of heat loss.[citation needed]

Journalists reporting on the available parts of the inquest files claim that it states:

    • Six of the group members died of hypothermia and three of fatal injuries.
    • There were no indications of other people nearby apart from the nine travelers on Kholat Syakhl, nor anyone in the surrounding areas.
    • The tent had been ripped open from within.
    • The victims had died 6 to 8 hours after their last meal.
    • Traces from the camp showed that all group members left the camp of their own accord, on foot.
    • To dispel the theory of an attack by the indigenous Mansi people, Dr. Boris Vozrozhdenny stated that the fatal injuries of the three bodies could not have been caused by another human being, "because the force of the blows had been too strong and no soft tissue had been damaged".[1]
    • Forensic radiation tests had shown high doses of radioactive contamination on the clothes of a few victims.[1]

The final verdict was that the group members all died because of a "compelling unknown force". The inquest ceased officially in May 1959 as a result of the "absence of a guilty party". The files were sent to a secret archive, and the photocopies of the case became available only in the 1990s, with some parts missing.[1]

    [edit] Controversy surrounding investigation

Some researchers claim some facts were missed, perhaps ignored, by officials:[2][3]

    • 12-year-old Yury Kuntsevich, who would later become head of the Yekaterinburg-based Dyatlov Foundation (see below), attended five of the hikers' funerals and recalls their skin had a "deep brown tan".[1]
    • The hikers' clothing was found to be highly radioactive.[1]
    • Another group of hikers (about 50 kilometers south of the incident) reported that they saw strange orange spheres in the night sky to the north (likely in the direction of Kholat Syakhl) on the night of the incident.[1] Similar "spheres" were observed in Ivdel and adjacent areas continually during the period of February to March 1959, by various independent witnesses (including the meteorology service and the military).[1] These were later proven to be launches of R-7 intercontinental missiles by Eugene Buyanov.[5]
    • Some reports suggest that there was a great deal of scrap metal in the area, leading to speculation that the military had utilized the area secretly and might have been engaged in a cover-up.[1]

    [edit] Aftermath

In 1967, Sverdlovsk writer and journalist Yuri Yarovoi (Юрий Яровой) published the novel Of the highest rank of complexity (Высшей категории трудности)[6] which was inspired by this incident. Yarovoi had been involved in the search for Dyatlov's group and at the inquest, including acting as an official photographer for the search campaign and in the initial stage of the investigation, and so had insight into the events. The book was written in the Soviet era when the details of the accident were kept secret, and Yarovoi avoided revealing anything beyond the official position and well-known facts. The book romanticized the accident and had a much more optimistic end than the real events – only the group leader was found deceased. Yarovoi's colleagues say that he had alternative versions of the novel, but both were declined because of censorship. Since Yarovoi's death in 1980 all his archives, including photos, diaries and manuscripts, have been lost.

Some details of the tragedy became publicly available in 1990 following publications and discussions in Sverdlovsk's regional press. One of the first authors was Sverdlovsk journalist Anatoly Guschin (Анатолий Гущин). Guschin reported that police officials gave him special permission to study the original files of the inquest and use these materials in his publications. He noticed that a number of pages were excluded from the files, as was a mysterious "envelope" mentioned in the case materials list. At the same time photocopies of some of the case files started to circulate among other unofficial researchers.

Guschin summarized his research in the book The price of state secrets is nine lives (Цена гостайны - девять жизней).[3] Some researchers criticized it due to its concentration on the speculative theory of a "Soviet secret weapon experiment", but the publication aroused the public discussion, stimulated by interest in the paranormal. Indeed, many of those who remained silent for 30 years reported new facts about the accident. One of them was the former police officer Lev Ivanov (Лев Иванов), who led the official inquest in 1959. In 1990 he published an article[7] along with his admission that the investigation team had no rational explanation of the accident. He also reported that he received direct orders from high-ranking regional officials to dismiss the inquest and keep its materials secret after reporting that the team had seen "flying spheres". Ivanov personally believes in a paranormal explanation - specifically, UFOs.

In 2000, a regional TV company produced the documentary film The Mystery of Dyatlov Pass (Тайна Перевала Дятлова). With the help of the film crew, a Yekaterinburg writer, Anna Matveyeva (Анна Матвеева), published the fiction/documentary novella of the same name.[2] A large part of the book includes broad quotations from the official case, diaries of victims, interviews with searchers and other documentaries collected by the film-makers. The narrative line of the book details the everyday life and thoughts of a modern woman (an alter ego of the author herself) who attempts to resolve the case.

In September 2011, Ancient Aliens ("Aliens and Evil Places"; S03E10) on the History Channel featured a lengthy segment on the Dyatlov Pass incident.

Despite its fictional narrative, Matveyeva's book remains the largest source of documentary materials ever made available to the public regarding the incident. In addition, the pages of the case files and other documentaries (in photocopies and transcripts) are gradually published on a web forum for enthusiastic researchers: [2].

The Dyatlov Foundation has been founded in Yekaterinburg (Екатеринбург), with the help of Ural State Technical University, led by Yuri Kuntsevitch (Юрий Кунцевич). The foundation's aim is to convince current Russian officials to reopen the investigation of the case, and to maintain the "Dyatlov Museum" to perpetuate the memory of the dead hikers.

Exploring the mystery of the Majestic 12

    | Mar 21, 2012

MAJIC men teaser (credit: Bryce Zabel)

In the whirlwind of the alleged Roswell incident cover up lies a secret set of government documents that compiles a 12-man list of our nations finest scientists, military leaders, and government officials. These men were allegedly authorized by President Truman to investigate the Roswell incident, and were called the Majestic 12. The report of the Majestic 12 lurks in the shadows of UFO accounts, and its story woven through a web of top-secret memos, highly classified meetings, and clandestine operations.

Don Most, best remembered as Ralph from Happy Days, notions himself as an amateur ufologist. He is partnering with TV producer Bryce Zabel and Bridget Healey to produce a film surrounding the mystery of the Majestic 12, and the people who research it. Currently in the development stage, they hope this film will bring to light the mystery that surrounds this top secret government group.

    Incredible UFO Footage over Turkey:

This is the top of someone's garage (aerodrome/curved roof style) - or a similar building - filmed with a shaky camera so it looks like it's moving - note how the thing never changes shape or illumination (likely because it's a few feet off the ground and the light you see is a security lamp or flood lamp reflecting off the front)

I question references to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UFO_sightings) which censors too much and is inaccurate - I hope it eventually closes down as it comes up all too readily in web searches.

MAURY ISLAND NO LONGER A MYSTERY: A UFO HOAX EXPOSED! by Anthony Bragalia

Copyright 2010, InterAmerica, Inc. (Permission needed to print this in its entirety, but Fair Use and blog links are allowed as usual)

    maury.jpg

After six decades the truth has emerged about the infamous Maury Island UFO incident of 1947. It was a hoax. It finds its roots in fiction and fantasy, as revealed in candid and damning interviews with Maury Island UFO "witness" Harold Dahl's own son and daughter. The hoax is further detailed in a careful re-examination of the "mysterious" figure Fred Crisman.

It is alleged that in June of 1947, seaman Harold Dahl was with his son scavenging for drifting logs near Maury Island in Puget Sound in Washington State when Harold sighted several "donut shaped objects" flying in formation over his boat. He claimed that one of the discs appeared to lose control after being tapped by another disc, spewing out slag and strange pieces of light metal material which hit his boat. The falling UFO debris supposedly injured Harold's son Charles and killed the family dog. His story was reported to his co-worker Fred Crisman and was later promoted by publisher Ray Palmer.

The event -which has stirred the imaginations of many over decades- was itself born of imagination. It simply never happened. Harold Dahl's own family and the sage perspective of history now reveal: The only reality about the "incident" was that it was conjured up in the mind of an enterprising and attention-craving 27 year-old schemer and amateur fiction writer.

    MAURY ISLAND REVISITED

    beach.jpg

    A MAURY ISLAND BEACH

Though this incredible sighting was alleged to have occurred on June 21, 1947 (just days before pilot Kenneth Arnold's seminal sighting and just weeks before the Roswell crash) no real verification exists of this except the say-so of Crisman and Dahl. It was not until July 22 that Kenneth Arnold himself received a letter from Ray Palmer, publisher of Amazing Stories, requesting that he investigate the incident, that it became publicly known. It was later still when Army Air Corps officers came to investigate the event at the behest of Arnold.

Dahl reports (depending on the source) having observed between 4-6 donut shaped metallic discs about 100 feet in diameter. He said that he could see circular portholes around them, with blue sky showing through the craft's center holes. The UFOs, Dahl said, had been flying together in a pattern from about 2000 feet down to just 500 feet above. He said that one appeared to have been in distress when bumped by a nearing disc. After the hot slag from the crippled disc rained unto the boat, boy and dog, the damage was assessed. The dead dog was buried at sea and the boy had apparently sustained a burned arm.

Rather than calling an official resource, Dahl elected to immediately contact his co-worker about the incident. The co-worker (with whom he retrieved errant floating logs for return to a sawmill to be used as raw lumber) was one Fred Crisman.

Crisman seemed to control the information about the incident from the beginning- and allegedly even wrote letters to inquirers about the incident on behalf of Dahl or even pretending to be Dahl. Crisman -whom it will be shown was a hustler and pathological deceiver- held a strange hold on the meeker Dahl. This is especially interesting in that it has been confirmed that it was Crisman who actually worked for the older Dahl. Little-appreciated is that Crisman was an adventuresome 27 year old at the time of the "incident." It was in fact Dahl who had title and owned the vessel used for salvaging (which was in fine condition and not decrepit, as some have erroneously reported.) Dahl was an independent businessman sometimes working in tandem with the Harbor Patrol Association.

Still, Dahl was somehow induced to go along with a lot of things said by Crisman. Dahl even later stated that he had taken photos of the saucers. When asked by Kenneth Arnold to produce them, Dahl went out to his car where he said that he had stored them in his glove compartment, but reported back that he could not find them. Crisman would state some twenty years later that he too had copies, but could not find them.

Dahl also stated that he was visited the day after his UFO sighting by a man in a black suit driving a 1947 black Buick. The mystery man told Dahl that he best keep silent about the incident if he knew what was good for him. Upon learning that the two Army Air Corps officers whom Arnold brought to investigate had perished in the plane taking them back, Dahl made himself very scarce for some time. He later would say that the whole story was made up, but seemed to recant that in later years when reached for comment.

    slag.jpg

ONLY KNOWN PHOTO OF MAURY ISLAND UFO DEBRIS - AUGUST, 1947 TACOMA TIMES

When evaluated, the flying saucer debris material itself was found to be totally terrestrial. It was likely volcanic or mill slag. It possessed no unusual characteristics to make anyone seriously believe that it was from another world. Pilot Kenneth Arnold -though not a trained investigator- said that the metal part of the debris reminded him of aluminum scrap and that he even had noted a square rivet on one piece!

THE WITNESS WHO WAS NOT: CHARLES DAHL'S DENIAL

    mauryisland.jpg

In all retellings of the Maury Island tale, it is said that Harold Dahl's then 15 year old son Charles Dahl had "come along for the ride" on one of the log retrieval expeditions. It is further alleged that during the encounter, one of the saucers had ejected a slag material that hit and severely burned Charles' arm, requiring medical treatment.

There is only one problem with this stunning scenario: Charles Dahl himself said that it never happened! The very child who was supposedly struck by slag from a saucer -as an adult says that he was never even there! He was likely as perplexed as all of us about why his father would ever have involved him in such a tall tale. But he gives a clue as to why this may be so in describing an amateur Svengali named Fred Crisman. And it is now known that Harold's claims and sudden change in behavior were upsetting to the Dahl family.

Some time ago a husband and wife research team located Charles Dahl and conversed with him about the incident. Kalani Hanohano is a long-time UFO researcher. Back in the late 1960's he was MUFON Washington State Director, a civilian UFO research organization. Having lived in Hawaii, WA and CA, Hanohano is now an ex-pat retiree living on Spain's Canary Islands with his wife Katiuska. Hanohano and his wife still remain UFO enthusiasts though are not as active in the field as they were many years ago.

Hanohano, having lived in Washington State, had long been fascinated by the Maury Island story. He and his wife had undertaken to closely examine the lives of Fred Crisman and Harold Dahl. He and his Katiuska had in fact had even managed to locate Harold Dah's son Charles, who has since passed. When found and reached at his home in Hammond, LA, Charles Dahl spoke sparingly and cautiously to the Hanohanos. But he did confirm for them that Crisman, "was a smooth-talking con artist" for whom he had no respect- and Charles directly and unequivocally confirmed to them that "the Maury Island incident was a hoax." It is evident that Charles Dahl did not like Crisman for having involved him and his father in the whole thing.

Likely embarrassed by his father Harold having been so easily and so fully "taken in" and influenced by Crisman, Dahl rarely spoke about the"event" - even to family. Charles Dahl was curiously never interviewed at the time of the event. He appeared to have been kept away from it all by the adults, including by Crisman. There appears to be no hospital records to verify Charles medical treatment for being struck and burned by falling hot slag.

On the very face of it, the account makes no sense: If a child suffered the horrendous impact of rock and metal raining down upon him from hundreds of feet above -so hot that it burned skin and falling so fast that it killed an animal- the child would have been killed. Minimally the boy would have been permanently disabled. And there appears to be no police, fire, or property or accident insurance records that would support the occurrence of the incident as described. As will be shown next, Charles own sister said that her brother was never maimed in such a way.

Based on his research and his interview of Charles Dahl, Hanohano says: "If there is a term that continually characterizes Fred Crisman, that term would be con man." Hanonhano's professionalism and accuracy is apparently vouched for by respected researcher Jerome Clark, who also briefly notes this Hanohano-Dahl interview in Strange Skies.

Little known too is that a stringer and informant for the FBI met with Dahl at his house. Dahl's wife was very upset and perplexed by her husband's tall tale and was heard to say "Quit lying about this!." She then attacked Dahl with a knife! The father's lies -and Crisman's scheming- were obviously not welcome by Dahl's wife and his son. The father's behavior under Crisman's "spell" seemed to have brought them to the breaking point.

DAHL'S DAUGHTER: "MY BROTHER WAS NOT BURNED BY A UFO"

    chard.jpg

More recent confirmation comes from Harold Dahl's own daughter, who is still living. She too says that "nothing ever happened."

She echoes the information obtained by the Hanohanos' interview with her brother Charles. Louise Bakotich (maiden name Louise Dahl) of Aberdeen in Grays Harbor County in Washington State is now nearly 80 years old. She has stated flat out to a Seattle Post Intelligencer (Seattle PI) reporter on April 23, 2007 that her brother Charles did not have such an encounter.

Still clear-headed, she told journalist Casey McNerthney -and others who have inquired- that her brother never mentioned anything at all about a mysterious death of their family dog or that he was ever injured by hot slag in such an incident. It would have been a traumatic event that she surely would have remembered had it happened to one of her own brothers. Charles was not ever rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment of burns. Louise was just a couple of years older than Charles at the time of the Maury Island sighting, and knew nothing of her brother's "involvement." She dismisses the whole thing as ridiculous.

It is likely Louise Dahl is telling the truth. She should be supporting the Maury story in support of her father, not denying it. And Dahl's daughter did not come forward with this information, rather she was sought out and approached. So untainted was she in speaking about this that one person had to mail to her details on an event she never knew or believed to have happened.

And it is of course inconceivable that -had such an event really transpired- Louise would not recall the loss of her own family dog knocked dead at sea! It is equally inconceivable that she would not remember the simultaneous burning and wounding of her own kid brother's body! If such events had truly occurred, it would have mentally scarred her for life. Perhaps out of respect for a now elderly lady, no one has seemed to dare ask Louise why she thinks that her father told such a strange story in the first place.

Given the venomous characterization of Crisman by her own brother Charles, we likely have the answer: When she much later learned all of the details and hoopla surrounding the "incident" Louise probably realized just how impressionable, trusting and easily "drawn in" her beloved father was as a young man. Like her late brother, she surely wishes her Dad had never gotten involved in anything involving such a man as Crisman. Someone who would take advantage of someone for self gain.

FRED CRISMAN: WALTER MITTY PROVIDES THE ANSWER TO MAURY ISLAND

    crisman.jpg

    FRED CRISMAN

Over the years many authors have tried to make Fred Crisman "mysterious." And Fred Crisman himself liked to appear "mysterious." He has been variously linked to the JFK assassination, to having been one of the "three tramps" at the Grassy Knoll and to have been at the center of other "conspiracies." None of this is true- and nothing could be further from the truth than Fred Crisman.

    mitty.jpg

Fred Crisman's story of Maury Island was told in 1947. And 1947 is also the very year that the movie "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" was released. It starred Danny Kaye as a daydreamer who wanted to be somebody other than himself...and Fred Crisman was a real-life Walter Mitty.

A critical review of Crisman's life reveals an individual who indulged himself and others in his fantastic daydreams of personal triumphs and intrigue. There was nothing "official" about Fred Crisman. He was a self-promoter and teller of tall tales. He was similar to such later-day con men as Richard Doty, Bob Lazar, Phil Corso and Gordon Novel. All of these types feel compelled to insert themselves into history and have others play into their Mitty-like "mysteries." They are not "official" disinformers acting under government auspice- nor do they have any "special knowledge" about the UFO's "core story." They are simply jesters and underachievers who crave attention. They often play off of "six degrees of separation" relationships with people of real accomplishment. The only thing "deep" about them is perhaps their mental pathology.

The sad truth is that Crisman was a lonely "only child" and the son of an old-school salesman. Like many "only children" Crisman probably developed a rich fantasy life early on in his life. This is surely in evidence by his 20s when he was a hobbyist fantasy writer. And Crisman needed the attention as an adult that he had received when growing up as a child without siblings.

He mastered his mad skills in con-manship from his promoter-father, whom he idolized. The power of persuasion and over-claiming was learned well by young Crisman. It was his Dad whom he was named after and for whom he named his own son. In 1947, Crisman was a young man, 27 years old and hungry to make a name for himself - and maybe a little money while he was at it. How could a young college grad -reduced to picking up scrap for lumber - combine his dull life scavenging logs on the water with his penchant for fiction writing (see below) into something more exciting? He could tie it in to a spectacular flying saucer event seen from the boat that he worked on!

A man of minor achievement when older, Fred Crisman was a failed politico and media wannabe who had loose and accidental connections to some in government and intelligence. He used alias names, such as "Jon Gold" and imagined himself as more important than he ever would be in reality. He hosted a poorly-received and short-running radio talk show under this name on the KAYE radio station in tiny Puyallup, WA. He also wrote a dreadful book under the name Jon Gold on imagined conspiracies in Tacoma politics called "The Murder of a City, Tacoma." One reviewer described Crisman's writing like this: "He manages to tie corruption in Tacoma to everything from Communist infiltrators to the Kennedy assassination." The reviewer laments Crisman's "paranoid tone of the writing and shameless personal attacks."

Some uncritically conspiracy-minded say that Crisman himself was at the scene of the JFK murder. But records clearly indicate that Crisman was actually teaching high schoolers at Ranier High. Researcher Larry Hancock found the principal of the High School that briefly employed Crisman. In fact Hancock states that the principal truly disliked Crisman and that he even had sought to have him dismissed.

Crisman held many jobs, and none for long and none done well. He ran for City Council once and lost big, but was once given a seat on the board of the local library by the Mayor (Crisman's only "government appointment.") He worked at schools, libraries and radio stations. He was in the scrap business and he ran record promotion schemes. If you shift jobs and if you scheme for dollars and attention long enough, you are bound to run into all kinds of "intriguing" players. And Crisman did. But when critically examined, any "associations" that Crisman may have developed with politicians, the underground or other "colorful characters" were just coincidental, casual or embellished connections- or resulted from tangential relationships. There was nothing "mysterious" about Fred Crisman, just sad.

Researcher Larry Hancock has done a deep study of Fred Crisman. He observes: "There was a clear pattern of Crisman trying to create mysteries around himself, anything to give himself visibility. He was also a devotee of picking up government stationary and writing 'official' letters (author: like Rick Doty.) In one of his efforts he appears to try to associate himself with a mysterious domestic intelligence network." Hancock notes that Crisman even tried to scheme and dream up international plots of infiltration and influence of local Washington State school boards! Crisman appeared to enjoy creating controversy and conflict, playing strange roles in even local matters like schools and city government.

    deros.jpg

EXTREMELY RARE PHOTO OF "DERO" CREATURES SEEN BY CRISMAN, DEPICTED IN SHAVER'S "ROCK BOOK"

But the most telling things about this fantasy-prone, sorry man are the childish letters that he had written to publisher Ray Palmer that were composed before he had had ever even reported to Palmer on the Maury Island UFOs. In fact, when he was just 25 years old, Fred Crisman had written stories for publication in fiction pulp magazines about encountering an evil cave-dwelling race called "Dero." Like asylum patient Richard Shaver -a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic- Crisman promoted fantastical stories about "inner earth creatures" that dwell beneath us like devils, seeking to do us harm. Crisman wrote Palmer in the mid-1940s in published, delusional "Letters to the Editor" that -like Shaver- he too was fortunate enough to have successfully fended off these underground raygun-wielding beings! Crisman even claimed that he had fought his way out of a cave in Burma during WWII with a submachine gun, fighting off the underground meanies! So craven for attention was Crisman that he would support the certifiably insane (Shaver) and even involve his own boss Dahl and his family to get that attention. No wonder Dahl's son Charles loathed him. No wonder Dahl's daughter does not believe the tale he told.

Little-known is that Crisman (writing under a pseudonym) published an article in Palmer's Flying Saucers magazine in 1958 -more than a decade after the Maury Island "sighting." He claimed that the Air Force had since installed armed military who were still guarding Maury Island! Of course this is a Crisman "fact" that was untrue, if checked! Even as late as 1967 he was trying to milk the Maury Island myth that he had created by lecturing to a small Seattle UFO group. He said that he still had the Maury Island UFO photographs- but he never could produce them, even after two decades had passed. Crisman died young at 56 in modest circumstance and in relative obscurity in 1975.

CRISMAN'S PLAN UNVEILS: CREATING THE MAURY ISLAND HOAX

The key to the answer to the Maury "question" is this: Crisman was an opportunist. He saw the "Shaver Mystery" with its "Dero" as a big attention-getting opportunity, so he latched on to Shaver and Palmer. He spun his own, grander tale about Deros to build on Shaver's. Crisman wrote to Palmer, "You can imagine my fright when I picked up my copy of Amazing Stories and see you spashing words about on the subject." Crisman then "one-upped" Shaver in recounting a terrifying episode. Crisman said that he was inflicted with "two 9 inch wounds" from a Dero weapon- and that he still had the scars to prove it! Crisman had developed a hackneyed literary device-he had a "thing" about non-humans inflicting wounds on humans. Remember that Harold Dahl's son Charles was also "wounded" by the actions of ET.

In the same way that he had copied Shaver's Dero concept, Crisman saw the Kenneth Arnold UFO sighting as an opportunity to again gain personal attention, but now in an even bigger way. He quickly latched on to the then-emerging flying saucer mystery, and to saucer celebrity Kenneth Arnold (and again, to receptive Palmer.) He told them lies that his associate Dahl was involved in a sighting of flying saucers that even pre-dated Arnold's and that was even more dramatic!

    shaver-palmer.jpg

CON MEN RICHARD SHAVER AND RAY PALMER: RUNNING A CIRCUS

The dimunitive publisher Ray Palmer thought big. He relished such fantastic stories as Shaver's and Crisman's. It did not matter to Palmer that he mixed credible accounts like Arnold's with incredible accounts from those like Richard Shaver and Crisman/Dahl. The only thing that mattered was the money made from increased sales to a gullible and eager readership. His stories and magazines were tailored to target adventure-loving teenaged boys. Crisman himself was an overgrown kid, an immature adult.

In Crisman's scheming mind, the Maury Island UFO sighting would have to be "bigger than Arnold's." It was important to Crisman that "his sighting" was seen as even more spectacular than Arnold's- and that it had occurred even before Arnold's. Of course, the incident did not happen before Kenneth Arnold's sighting because the Maury Island UFO incident never happened. The Maury Incident did not pre-date Kenneth Arnold sighting or the Roswell crash, rather it's false story was inspired by them and then backdated.

STEALING STORIES FROM ARNOLD AND ROSWELL

Crisman drew upon elements of genuine UFO encounters such as Arnold's and Roswell's because Crisman was good at copying. Crisman was not capable of such an original recounting as would be found in a real UFO sighting. Instead, he stole elements of Arnold's story (and likely from elements of the Roswell crash) and built on them- inserting his easily-persuaded co-worker into the tale. Note that the UFOs reported by Dahl were circular saucers. They were not curved all-wing shaped like Kenneth Arnold's. It was only after the Arnold sighting was reported that the "saucer" term was used to describe UFOs. This shows that the Maury Island "UFO motif" was derived from "saucer" descriptors that were used after the Arnold sighting, though Dahl's sighting was supposedly from days before Arnold's sighting.

    NOT SINISTER, BUT STUPID

And Crisman was no "secret agent" either. Crisman's own son said that he did not believe that his father was "CIA" or in intelligence- because they never had enough money for that to have been true! The most "sinister" thing about Crisman is that he needlessly involved others in his attention-grabbing schemes. Crisman's folly caused two people to get involved in his hoax who were were killed in an air accident in so doing. These officers, Captain William Davidson and Lt Frank Brown, lost their lives when the aircraft that they flew back after investigating Maury Island had crashed. More than a prank gone wild, this prank had killed.

    donuts.jpg

It is now time to "kill" the Maury Island flying saucer story. Charles Dahl -like his father Harold Dahl- got entangled in a web woven of lies. And the son's own words offer the simple solution to the Maury Island UFO mystery: It was a mystery imagined "by a smooth-talking con artist" named Crisman.

President Harry Truman Realized That UFO'S Were Real.

President Harry Truman: "I can assure you the flying saucers, given that they exist, are not constructed by any power on Earth."

Several months ago, a group of ex-military officers came forward to discuss their experiences when UFOs reportedly tampered with American nuclear missile sites. While Alexander acknowledges the events, he suggests why there was no intense intelligence investigation of these incidents.

"They absolutely happened, but when it's a one-time event, the attitude of investigators is: If it happens again, we'll get nervous, but since it didn't happen, put it aside."It's sort of an indictment that says, despite overwhelming evidence of interaction with strategic systems, nothing was done. And in my view, it is put, like a number of things, in the too-tough-to-handle bin."

In his new book, "UFOs: Myths, Conspiracies and Realities," Alexander writes, "UFOs are real! With no prevarication or qualification of terms, there are physical objects of unknown origin that do transit our universe. The evidence that supports those statements is simply overwhelming."The evidence he speaks of includes the hard data of sensor technology that has frequently confirmed the reality of physical craft and the high quality of extremely reliable eyewitnesses who are "neither misreporting facts nor delusional."

"The problem is, when you discuss UFOs, we are talking everything from little balls of light to hard craft a mile or more across, and everything in between. So what is it?" Alexander asked."I argue that, not only are we not solving the problems yet, we're not even asking the right questions, because we approach this wrong. I suspect that consciousness is a piece of the puzzle. We talk about UFOs, saying it's a technology that's 1,000 years in advance, but it really isn't. If you follow the history of these things, usually it is somewhat in advance, but not beyond our comprehension by any stretch of the imagination.

"The conundrum you get into is, yes, they are seen by sensors; however, at other times, they are not seen by sensors that should've seen them, and that's one I can't answer." Thanks to Ken Pfeifer MUFON NJ www.worldUFOphotos.org

TPTB are building a monster radio telescope for detect an alien invasion

Fox News Reports a joint team of 20 countries led by the USA, is building a monster radio telescope formed by 3,000 50-foot-wide dishes, with a 50 light-years range, for detect a hostile alien invasion, according to Allison Barrie, the baby-face poster girl of the Illuminati, for military defense public relations. It costs $ three billion dollars and reaches out to 50 light years to detect a possible alien invasion. An artist's interpretation of the Square-Kilometer Array, a huge radio telescope currently under development in Australia. (SPDP/Swinburne Astronomy Productions)

If there are space invaders out there, it won’t be long before they can no longer stage a sneak attack, thanks to a project to build the most sensitive radio telescope ever -- one that’s the size of a continent.

Known as The Square Kilometer Array (SKA), it will explore the universe, identify any potential alien threats to our planet and hopefully answer some fundamental questions from astronomers. Its thousands of receptors, spaced roughly one kilometer apart, will be linked across an entire continent.

They’ll be arranged in five spiral arms like a galaxy, 3,000 50-foot-wide dishes that extend out from a central core at least 1,860 miles (3,000 kilometers) -- about the distance from New York City to Albuquerque, N.M.

The board of directors behind the telescope met for the first time in late January to kick off the project. Their first decision: where to house such a beast. After all, if it’s located in Australia, the antennas could span the entire continent. If it’s in South Africa, another location being considered, they would stretch to the Indian Ocean islands.

Optical telescopes can reveal only so much of the universe. The SKA’s radio telescopes, on the other hand, pick up radio-frequency signals unobscured by, say, cosmic dust. They will survey the sky 10,000 times faster than any other telescope and with 50 times the sensitivity and 100 times the survey speed of current imaging instruments.

Among the SKA’s missions: finding an answer to the question, “Are we alone?”

From a defense perspective, that’s a coy way of asking whether there are aliens out there with the capacity and appetite to attack us.

The SKA will be able to detect very weak extraterrestrial signals and search for complex molecules, the building blocks of life. Many new planets outside our solar system have been discovered in recent years, but it’s not clear whether they host life.

The search for extraterrestrial transmission has been underway for a long time, but the SKA’s sensitivity will provide a key advantage.

For the first time, it will even be possible to detect the relatively weak signals of televisions and radars from nearby stars. Spying such an artificial transmission from a planet around a star would be a pretty good clue that we’re not in this by ourselves.

The SKA will also look at how galaxies evolve and investigate the nature of dark energy. By mapping out the cosmic distribution of hydrogen, it will study the expansion of the universe after the Big Bang. Such a map will also allow researchers to track young galaxies.

How were stars born and black holes formed? The SKA will study the very first ones, as well as stars and galaxies that shaped the development of the universe. It will even be able to detect black holes forming during the Dark Ages.

SKA will also take on Einstein. The board of directors speculates that it may challenge the theory of general relativity and probe the nature of gravity.

Initial construction is due in 2016, and the SKA is expected to be fully operational by 2024. By 2019, well before the full array is completed, the team expects some exciting science results will be achievable.

All that science won’t come cheap, of course. The SKA is expected to cost approximately $2.36 billion.

But those bucks buy an awful lot of power: The SKA’s central computer will have the processing power of approximately 1 billion PCs, and it will produce enough raw data to fill 15 million 64GB iPods every day. The SKA dishes will produce 10 times as much data the world’s Internet traffic.

In fact, one of the largest design challenges was how to relay the huge amount of data across such large distances.

The solution: Enough optical fiber to wrap twice around the Earth -- and take the Earth’s defense to an entirely different scale.

George, check out nicap file # 470709...this object was the same type I saw may 3rd 2010...The objects I saw entered the cloud in a side to side motion like fish swimming up stream...Same as sighting #470709...man claimes it stairstepped into the cloud...The objects I saw reacted to the sun..As soon as the sun made a reflection the objects immediatly flew side to side back in..I truley believe there is more out there than unidentified aircraft...There are unidentified creatures flying in our skies..

    Sincerly,
    Benny Garfield.

Take a look at the enclosed. Play it in slow motion and watch the streaks. They are no more than one frame duration (15 frames per second) and even in such a short time their movement already causes a streak. I don’t think it is wise to talk about where I filmed it but I did film it and it is another bit of evidence that something is going on which we are being kept in the dark about. If we were to force the governments to admit existence of these craft in our 21st century (the Torah already did) by asking everyone to video the skies an hour a day and publicize the evidence then maybe we can start forcing a disclosure an end to dirty energy and an end to the need for feeding the military industrial complex through staged wars....

    Intelligent Design?

Time Magazine reports that George W. Bush expressed support for the idea of combining lessons in evolution with a discussion of "intelligent design"-- the proposition that some aspects of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause or agent, as opposed to natural selection. It is a subtler way of finding God's fingerprints in nature than traditional creationism. "Both sides ought to be properly taught," said the President, who appeared to choose his words with care, "so people can understand what the debate is about ... I think that part of education is to expose people to different schools of thought."

The President's position seems supremely fair-minded particularly if he has inside classified information on alien visitation for centuries.

Hellyer Former Canadian Minister of Defense Blasts UFO Cover-Up

Last year I spoke with Paul Hellyer at the UFO Congress and the former Canadian Minister of Defense, is talking about his belief that UFOs are from another planet and that the U.S. Government has kept it covered up. As Canadian Minister of National Defense in 1963, Hellyer was responsible for integrating and unifying the Royal Canadian army, navy and air force into a single organization, the Canadian Armed Forces. He is outspoken about UFOs visiting Earth and the US Banking System that he feels is greatly responsible for the present economic hard times. He feels we are naive and fail to understand we are being visited by alien life forms.

When Hellyer was Canada's Minister of National Defense he stated, "I got periodic reports on sightings and I looked at them very casually, and it was decided that about 80 percent of them were natural phenomena of one sort or another, and the other 20 percent roughly were unexplained, and therefore unidentified.

While spending last Thanksgiving north of Toronto, Hellyer and his wife spotted an unidentified flying object.

"The two of us stood there transfixed for 20 minutes, looking up at this thing moving first in one direction, and then another. By process of elimination, we determined it wasn't a star or satellite and it wasn't the space station, so there was really no explanation for it other than it was, in fact, a UFO."

"It looked like a star, but it maneuvered in a way that stars don't. I must admit that when I saw this one, I wondered whether it was extraterrestrial or American. And I guess the thought that occurred to me was that if it is American, then they have learned some pretty big secrets about acceleration, because it accelerated at a pace that nothing I've ever known about that was built here is capable of."

In his book " Light at the End of the Tunnel: A Survival Plan for the Human Species" (Author House), Hellyer claims that an American "shadow government" is behind this activity.

The purpose of these files is to report the UFO eyewitness and photo/video evidence that occurs on a daily basis around the world and in space. These Files assume that extraterrestrial intelligent life not only exists, but my hypothesis is that the over a thousand UFOs reported each month represent technologically advanced spacecraft conducting surveillance of Earth. I personally became interested in UFOs when London Control ordered me to intercept one over England while flying for the US Air Force. Under Project Blue Book, the US Air Force investigated UFOs for more than twenty years; and we continue this research. I believe the God of the universe has spread life throughout the cosmos and UFO's are visiting us in ever-increasing numbers.

The US bomber force is destroyed on the ground and the Minuteman missiles in their silos in this highly realistic dramatization filmed with the unprecedented cooperation of the US Air Force. The people shown are the actual men and women of the US Air Force and Navy who would have been targeted. This is a short version of the scenario used in the 1979 documentary film, FIRST STRIKE, which examined how the Soviet SS-18 missile force together with submarine launched missiles might be used to destroy our strategic forces in a surprise, preemptive attack.

Stephen Bassett’s UFOs and Nukes Press Release: Journalists Beware!

    By Robert Hastings
    www.ufohastings.com
    3-30-12
Exopolitics guru Stephen Bassett has just issued a press release trumpeting a petition he recently created in which he urges the Obama administration to investigate and make public information about UFO incursions at nuclear weapons sites, as revealed by seven U.S. Air Force veterans at my September 27, 2010 press conference in Washington D.C. which CNN streamed live:

Over the past four decades, I have interviewed more than 130 ex-U.S. military personnel who have reported ongoing UFO activity at ICBM sites, nuclear weapons depots, and nuclear detonation test ranges. The seven individuals who participated in the press conference—co-sponsored by former USAF Captain Robert Salas—have provided affidavits relating to their still-classified experiences. Those, as well as several declassified documents reporting UFO activity at nuclear weapons sites since the late 1940s, may be read here:

In his March 28, 2012 press release, Bassett provides his contact information for journalists who might wish to interview him about the petition. Unfortunately, Bassett simply is not a reliable source of information on the nuclear weapons-related UFO incidents. Indeed, many researchers question his basic credibility as a spokesman on the topic of UFOs in general. I am among that group, however, I will confine my remarks here to addressing the factual errors and imprecise language found in the release.

SB: Washington, DC -- A petition calling attention to extraordinary testimony from former ranking members of the United States Air Force has been posted on the White House website.

RH comments: “Ranking members, Mr. Bassett? This inaccurate statement demonstrates your reportorial incompetence and/or your tendency to hype the facts. While the USAF officers to whom you refer include a retired colonel and lieutenant colonel, as well as former captains and a former enlisted man, none of these individuals can accurately be called a “ranking member” of the U.S. Air Force.

These persons’ testimony is of course tremendously important but to misrepresent, intentionally or not, their previous standing in the U.S. Air Force hierarchy only complicates the issue by providing ammunition to UFO debunkers who will seize any and every opportunity to discredit their statements based only on secondary, inaccurate commentary about them by persons such as yourself. (At least you didn’t call them all “generals” as one incompetent reporter did.)

SB: “The petition reads as follows: WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO ask Defense Secretary Panetta to respond to mounting evidence for nuclear weapons tampering by extraterrestrial craft.”

RH comments: Okay, Mr. Bassett, that’s my own opinion as well, although I would have said, “…tampering by those presumably aboard extraterrestrial craft.” As I write in my 2008 book UFOs and Nukes:
“After researching the UFO ‘phenomenon’ for 39 years, I must conclude that the technology involved is so advanced that a human origin for it can be automatically ruled out in almost every bona fide sighting case. The radar data alone substantiate the presence of unknown craft in our atmosphere whose capabilities are vastly beyond our own aircraft and which defy known aerodynamic principles.

Therefore, the available facts suggest to me that extraterrestrial visitation, by one or more races of beings, is occurring. I further contend that such visitation accounts for all of the nuclear weapons-related incidents presented in this book, as well as the secrecy surrounding those events. In my view, the essential message being conveyed by our visitors is this: As long as nuclear weapons exist, they remain a potential threat to the future of humankind and to the planet itself. Get rid of them!”
However, Mr. Bassett, I am careful to say in my book, “While overwhelming empirical evidence is not yet available, at least in the public domain, to confirm an extraterrestrial origin for UFOs, it can at least be said that some as-yet unexplained mystery has been thrown in the faces of those who planned, and still plan, to use these terrifying weapons.”

I understand that my nuanced summation of the available evidence will go over the heads of those who view the UFO phenomenon in black-and-white terms but given that I am, as you say, the principle researcher on the UFO-Nukes Connection, my criticism of your imprecise commentary on my findings is valid and noteworthy.

SB: Since 1992 government witnesses of high rank have been coming forward with evidence regarding incidents in which extraordinary craft of unknown origin have tampered with nuclear weapons facilities around the world.

RH comments: 1992? Oh really, Mr. Bassett? Actually, my first ex-USAF sources—including a couple of retired colonels—agreed to be interviewed in the early 1970s. In 1981, when I first embarked on the college lecture circuit, those persons’ testimony became a matter of public record.

SB: …One of the incidents addressed took place at a Malmstrom Air Force Base nuclear missile launch complex in March of 1967. Former ICBM launch officer Salas testified to missiles being shut down in silo after a craft of unknown origin hovered directly over the complex. Other testimony dealt with the 1986 RAF Bentwaters base incident in the United Kingdom.

RH comments: Actually, the events at RAF Bentwaters occurred in December 1980, not in 1986. But considering the other inaccuracies found in your press release, I suppose I am belaboring the point.

    Robert Salas’ Input

My co-sponsor at the UFOs and Nukes press conference, former USAF Captain Bob Salas, has written an article about Bassett’s dubious contributions to the UFO debate titled “The Idiocy of the Disclosure Movement” in which he said:
“Stephen Bassett’s (or Steven Greer’s depending on which one is talking) Disclosure Project has been ineffectually trying to penetrate [the] door of secrecy since 2001. They have presumably tried to achieve disclosure by enticing speakers (myself among them) to tell as many stories, theories, philosophies, reports, and conjectures as possible during these conferences. I say presumably because these pointless exercises have been so ineffective in gaining serious public attention that one might conclude they were intentionally designed to keep disclosure from happening.

They seem to have achieved one probable objective of those who would maintain the secrecy, i.e., ‘to keep the public confused and unsure about the subject.’ The hallmark of these Exopolitics Conferences is generally unsupported statements and conjecture—lots of conjecture.

The mainstream media has not gotten on the bandwagon because there is little substance to talk about...The Exopolitics groupies are simply hurling whatever they can get their hands on in every direction.”
Salas has many other relevant comments and his brief, well-argued article should not be passed-by, at least by anyone seriously interested in the important issues involved with the inevitable announcement of the UFO reality by world governments.

(I will note here that another incompetent commentator on the UFO-Nukes Connection, Expolitics big-wig Dr. Michael Salla, has already muddied the waters by endorsing a hoax perpetrated by notorious con-artist Bill Knell, relating to veteran newsman Walter Cronkite’s supposed witnessing of a nukes-related UFO incident. After I publicly took him to task, Salla eventually recanted his endorsement of the hoax but then wrote a scathing article saying that I and other longtime ufologists were unfairly criticizing the Exopolitics movement—I guess because, unlike the Exos, we require credible, vetted sources and, as often as possible—given the high-level classification assigned to national security-related UFO events—verifiable documentation that supports our sources’ statements, before we publish our findings.)

In any case, Mr. Bassett, I agree in principle that ongoing efforts should be made by U.S. citizens to push for our government’s disclosure of the UFO reality and, in particular, the incidents involving nuclear weapons. As I say in my book:
For me, one of the most important UFO-related issues has always been political and philosophical in nature. Our country’s government has been proclaimed to be ‘of the people, by the people, and for the people.’ If this is indeed the case—and democratic principles do in fact guide our national policies—then a relative handful of people at the Pentagon, CIA, NSA, and the other intelligence agencies, must not be permitted to retain full and unchallenged discretionary power in a matter so momentous as the reality of UFOs. While the official disclosure about our visitors’ existence and presence here must be handled with great care and consideration, it is nevertheless advisable and ultimately unavoidable. The basic question is whether a secret as important as alien visitation should continue to be hidden from the American people, and the rest of humanity, decade after decade.

As I see it, the ongoing UFO intervention in U.S. strategic affairs is now a tale that needs to be told, in unflinching terms, to our legislative assemblies, if possible, but from the rooftops if necessary. All bold endeavors bear both planned-for and unintended consequences. The inevitable admission by U.S. government officials that our nuclear weapons have long been monitored, and at times compromised, by those of unknown origin and objectives, is not without its perils. But the facts will—and should—become known, sooner or later, by one means or another, in a society such as ours. And that’s a good thing. After all, isn’t that how a democracy is supposed to operate?”
Of course, implicit in my position is the fundamental premise that those who are publicly petitioning our government representatives and/or shouting from the rooftops, so to speak, by posting information about the cover-up on the Internet, be competent, informed spokespersons for the Disclosure cause.

Linking well-documented UFO activity at nuclear weapons sites with the nonsense routinely offered up the Exopolitics crowd—such as the supposedly-verified knowledge of who our Visitors are, what their game plan is, how they would interact with humans if only their reality were to be acknowledged by the government, etc.—only serves to degrade the integrity of the important nukes-related evidence found in declassified documents and ex-military witness testimony. This is the key reason I am writing such a highly-critical article, to warn people, especially journalists, to steer clear of Stephen Bassett when it comes to the topic of the UFO-Nukes Connection.

When I telephoned Bob Salas earlier today, prior to writing this, he told me that he was concerned that Bassett was trying to make himself the “point of contact” for any journalists who wished to learn more about the revelations divulged at our press conference or in our two books, UFOs and Nukes and Faded Giant. We both agreed that this would be a very worrisome development, given Bassett’s non-involvement with the research, his apparent inability to accurately report the facts we have gathered, and the great likelihood that he would try to entwine our well-documented material with his mostly-bogus Exopolitical notions and claims.

Of course, no matter what I or anyone else says, there will always be some number of people who will gobble up the Exopolitics party-line without a giving a second thought to whether the occasionally valid but mostly unfounded “facts” offered by the group really have merit or actually provide any genuine insights into the coming paradigm-shift that will ensue once Disclosure occurs.

Regardless, Mr. Bassett, if any members of the media actually contact you in response to your latest press release, please remember to tell them 1) you had nothing to do with UFOs and Nukes press conference, 2) your release’s summation of the event and the research underlying it is factually-flawed, 3) your attempts to ingratiate yourself with me prior to the event were quickly rebuffed and 4) I think your approach to promoting UFO Disclosure is lacking in credibility and, therefore, counterproductive. As I once told you in an email, I consider you to be part of the problem, not part of the solution.

UFO Encounter Revealed After Almost 40 Years By Ex-Military Pilot: Exclusive

On the night of Feb. 6, 1975, Marine Reserve Squadron Capt. Larry Jividen was piloting a T-39D Sabreliner (see image above) combat trainer and utility aircraft with five Naval officer pilots on board for a special training flight. He didn't know the evening would evolve into a game of "tag" with an unidentified flying object.

Jividen hasn't spoken about that experience from nearly 40 years ago -- until now.

The nine-year Marine Corps officer -- and later commercial airline pilot -- had taken off at twilight for a two-hour roundtrip that began and ended at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla.

"At about 9 o'clock, we were descending from a high altitude -- around 33,000 feet -- and I looked off to the right side of the airplane where I saw a solid red light at our 1:00 o'clock position and altitude," Jividen told The Huffington Post.

"It was not flashing like normal anti-collision lights flash on airplanes. I thought it might be some other traffic, but I wasn't sure, so I called Pensacola Approach Control and said, 'Understand we're cleared for the approach, but we have traffic off to our right, and who's first for the approach?"

The traffic that Jividen and the other five crew members saw was mutually described as "a solid, circular object about the relative size of a kid's marble held at arm's length," Jividen recalled.

When they were informed that ground control had no other traffic in their vicinity, Jividen became concerned that the mysterious object hadn't shown up on radar. So he asked for clearance to deviate from their approach and turn directly toward the bright red UFO "just to see what it does."

As he turned toward the object, Jividen says it turned toward his plane.

"It suddenly flew from right to left, across the nose [of our plane], and just stopped at our 11:00 o'clock position. At that point, I started to speed up to see if I could close on the object, and as I [did that], it was pacing me in front. In other words, as I'd speed up, he'd speed up.

"So, I decided to descend to place the object against a star field to make sure that it was actually solid, and then I climbed so that I could silhouette the object against the Gulf of Mexico."

Jividen says the five-minute encounter came to an end when the reddish UFO flew away at a very high rate and disappeared over the horizon in the direction of New Orleans.

After the crew returned to Pensacola, Jividen filled out an incident form and that was the last he heard of the episode.

And nobody else heard about it for more than three decades.

Jividen's story is now being told in a new edition of "UFOs: Myths, Conspiracies and Realities," written by retired Army Col. John Alexander.

"I did some background checks on [Jividen] and one of the first things that came back was his distinguished flying crosses for doing really heroic things. He is who he says he is and very straightforward," Alexander told HuffPost.

"I don't think there's any doubt that it was something. I take him as a highly credible witness, much more so than many other ones."

Alexander's unique top-secret clearance granted him by the U.S. government gave him access in the 1980s to a variety of official documents and first-person UFO accounts. He also created a special group of top-level government officials and scientists who studied the UFO phenomenon.

In the end, Alexander determined that the U.S., indeed, had evidence pointing to UFO reality, but he couldn't find any signs that the government deliberately kept this information from the public, or that contact had been made with alien life.

"One of the things we are seeing are physical characteristics that we don't understand, capabilities that are beyond our technological options at this time, i.e. extremely fast acceleration and high-G turns that living organisms, as we know it, would not survive," he explained.

Watch these amazing pilot close encounters with UFOs:

A larger issue going on with regard to UFOs seen by military, commercial and private pilots may turn out to be potential safety hazards, says at least one respected scientist.

"My friends who are scientists say, 'Well, there's nothing to UFOs. If there were, we would have the data and we'd look at it.' That's partly a valid statement, and it's pilots who are unwittingly preventing us from getting the data to analyze scientifically," said Richard Haines, a former research scientist from NASA's Ames Research Center.

Haines -- who prefers to use the term unidentified aerial phenomena, or UAP, to UFO -- is a former UFO skeptic who now heads the National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena, or NARCAP.

"Our objectives are to make flying safer for the flying public, specifically in regard to UAP, and we're convinced there's a potential threat posed by nearby UAP to commercial and private airplanes," Haines told HuffPost.

Working with a staff of nearly 40 people, including international affiliates, Haines is NARCAP's chief scientist. He addresses the issue of pilots who have a fear reporting UFOs or UAPs while they're still actively flying.

"To me, that's a serious inhibiting factor for scientists like myself to collect the data."

Haines suggests that the fear factor surrounding pilots doesn't have as much to do with them being afraid of the objects they encounter as it does with the fear of losing their jobs if they talk about it.

"Exactly. I don't think it's a physical fear. NARCAP comes along with the objective of trying to make flying safer for the public, and the airlines don't want to hear that because it implies it's not safe! For obvious reasons, many of the reports I have are from retired pilots."

Like the one from Jividen, who filed a report with Haines last year -- almost 40 years after the fact, but it was still impressive.

"First of all, it had a number of witnesses," said Haines. "There were six guys on board and they're not all going to mistake a common illusion.

"After several minutes [the object] didn't change size, shape or intensity, which means that it not only accelerated in front of him and stopped at his 11:00 o'clock position, but it then maintained his forward velocity. We have to ask what kind of natural phenomenon can do that?"

Former NASA scientist Richard Haines describes a harrowing pilot encounter with a UFO:

Haines still isn't sure what these unusual objects are that so many pilots over decades have reported.

"I honestly don't know, and as a scientist, I want to keep all the doors open until I've got sufficient evidence, but until that time, I'm not going to speculate."

Alexander's research leads him to at least one important conclusion about the truly unexplained UFO or UAP cases.

"If you get to the fundamental issue -- if there is an intelligence behind this, and it certainly appears to be true -- things like energy have to be key. Certainly understanding a different form of energy would be incredibly useful."

Whatever the red circular object was that Jividen and his crew encountered that night in 1975, two things made a lasting impression on him.

"First, there was no radar contact with it. Clearly, by the silhouette and movement of my aircraft, this was a solid, self-propelled object.

"I don't think our physical science is advanced enough to evaluate what these things are. There's some physical phenomena going on that we just can't clearly interpret or evaluate -- it's obviously intelligently controlled, but it may not be ET."

(A Criticism of Scepticism and Relativism)

The Day the Skeptics Society Wasn't Skeptical - "Best Evidence for UFOs"

Normally the Skeptics Society is a pretty reliable source of information concerning paranormal and pseudo-scientific claims. So imagine my surprise (and dismay) to read in the weekly E-Skeptic of March 28, 2012 a totally uncritical review of Leslie Kean's book UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go On the Record. Titled "Best Evidence for UFOs" by George Michael, it praises Kean's "numerous credible eyewitnesses to UFO encounters and authoritative sources." He thinks she makes an " impressive case," and praises her "academic rigor." Plainly, either Michael did not read the same book I did, or he was entirely hornswoggled by the way that the crafty Kean disguises her hard-core UFO belief as respectable agnosticism.

Michael is totally uncritical of  the claims and statements in Kean's book. Given that the title of the magazine is "Skeptic," why did it never occur to him to question any of the assertions made by Kean, instead of just accepting each and every one as Gospel truth? Did it not occur to him that, in a book written by a hard-core UFO believer (Kean's mentor in UFOlogy was the late Budd Hopkins), one needs to verify the accuracy of the picture the author is trying to paint? Are all these UFO cases really unexplained? What have we skeptics been doing, sitting on our hands, or scratching our heads, during the decades since these Oldie-But-Moldy UFO claims were made?

The author is obviously totally clueless about the history of the UFO controversy. Otherwise, he would realize that many of Kean’s “unexplained” cases have been explained in detail by Philip J. Klass and others, years ago. Kean simply ignores all explanations and commentaries that she doesn’t like. To me that does not constitute "academic rigor," as Mr. Michael seems to think. But he apparently has never read any of Klass' UFO books, and I suspect doesn't even know who Klass was (or else he would have asked himself, "What did Klass write about this case during the 70s or 80s?"). I have already written a review of Kean's book, “‘Unexplained’ Cases—Only If You Ignore All Explanations,” that was published in the Skeptical Inquirer, March/April, 2011. I have now placed a copy of that review on my website, for those who would like to see what a critical analysis of Kean's dubious pro-UFO claims might look like.

The British UFO skeptic Ian Ridpath wrote:
In his review of Leslie Kean’s book, George Michael too readily takes the author’s word for various UFO cases that have turned out, on investigation, not to be quite as the author describes them. A case in point is the Rendlesham Forest incident of 1980, which he calls “Perhaps the most notable reported military case involving a UFO”. A little research (even a glance at Wikipedia, for example) would have shown that explanations for all major aspects of that case have been in print for over 25 years. To address the points he raises: No unusual radiation was detected at the site, the supposed landing marks were made by forest animals, and the story of examining a landed craft for 45 minutes is something that was made up many years after the event by one of the witnesses, apparently bent on becoming a UFO celebrity. I would not expect to learn that from a book by an uncritical UFO proponent such as Leslie Kean, but I would have expected to hear it in a review on these pages... There are quite a few other cases he needs to learn about, too.
Peter Brookesmith, longtime paranormal researcher and regular contributor to Fortean Times, says
This review contains what must surely be the most distorted version of the Rendlesham Incident to see the light....where was the wary & informed editorial control? It's not even as if this worthless tract has never been kicked in the fundament (and not only in hard-line skeptical journals) by other reviewers: it's been out & about for a while. So the real question is, how come the review was published by E-Skeptic at all?
    (The correct spelling is "Oberg")
As far back as August, 2010 skeptic James Oberg wrote for MSNBC that Kean's book was based on a "questionable foundation." He quickly glanced at a list of supposed "unexplained" cases given by Kean, and immediately pulled out ten that he knew to be caused by Russian space launches.
E-Skeptic is probably unaware that Kean's book was also made into an equally bad one-sided pro-UFO documentary on the History Channel. I have also written a critique of the misrepresentations made on this show.

Apparently Mr. Michael is also unaware that the big controversy underway in UFOlogy at the moment involves Kean promoting a video of a fly buzzing around as being possibly "the case UFO skeptics have been dreading."   Even many of the UFO proponents are choking on that one, as her position is so obviously illogical. Had Michael known that Kean was vigorously defending such an obvious absurdity, I cannot imagine how he possibly could have written such a fawning review.

Unfortunately, now Leslie Kean will be able to boast to reporters that her book has been given the 'seal of approval' of Skeptic magazine for its "academic rigor." As Ian Ridpath noted, if Michael had even bothered to check Wikipedia, he would have seen the problems in Kean's version of the Rendlesham case. Let us hope that in future articles concerning UFOs, the Skeptics Society will utilize the services of authors and reviewers whose understanding of the UFO controversy is better than paper-thin, and who will check out the validity of pro-UFO claims before credulously swallowing them.

This Week's Episode: Gene and Chris present author and longtime UFO investigator Chris Lambright, author of "X Descending," and special guest Ray Stanford to discuss how how a private study of UFO films may have influenced amazing new developments in aerospace propulsion. Our guests will also discuss the mysterious Paul Bennewitz case and how he succumbed to possible government disinformation and dirty tricks.

The “Shadow Figures” of the UFO Field
    By Gene Steinberg

It has long been speculated that U.S. government agents have infiltrated the UFO field, and have caused all sorts of mischief. From the very earliest days of the modern era, we’ve heard reports of all sorts of peculiar government behavior.

In 1953, UFO researcher Albert K. Bender shut down his flying saucer club, claiming that three men wearing black suits, supposedly government operatives, visited him and told him to shut up because he knew too much about UFO reality. Thus began the legend of the MIB, although such alleged shenanigans occurred even earlier.

Take the 1947 Maury Island UFO case. As described in the book UFO pioneer Kenneth Arnold wrote with Ray Palmer, “The Coming of the Saucers,” when he traveled to Tacoma, WA to investigate the sighting, his hotel room was tapped, and his overheard conversations were being relayed to members of the press.

Even stranger: When Arnold first arrived in Tacoma, he discovered that pretty much all the hotel rooms in that city were occupied. Despite that uncomfortable fact, a room had already been reserved in his name at the last hotel he called. Were these the acts of government spies, or individuals trying to play a prank on Arnold?

With Bender, there is good reason to believe his alleged MIB encounters was due to other causes, perhaps more personal in nature. Some years later, Bender even wrote a book, “Flying Saucers and the Three Men,” heavily edited by legendary UFO author Gray Barker, in which he claimed his visitors were extraterrestrial.

As chronicled in books and magazine articles by John Keel and others, supposed MIB have been infiltrating UFO research for a number of years. Pranksters? Government operatives? ET? Or maybe some people just became a little too paranoid when people began to contact them in the wake of a UFO or other offbeat encounter.

More recently, a key figure in the investigation of the purported UFO crash in Roswell, NM, William Moore, confessed to being a willing participant in alleged government disinformation. Some years earlier, he wrote “The Roswell Incident” with Charles Berlitz, a world traveler who had also written hot-selling books about the Bermuda Triangle and other subjects. Nuclear physicist and UFO lecturer Stanton T. Friedman also heavily contributed to the Roswell book, but didn’t earn a byline.

In passing, I knew Berlitz fairly well in those days, and offered him lots of guidance on two of his books in exchange of a couple of credits and free lunches.

Moore was also instrumental in promoting the infamous MJ-12 documents, which supposedly describe a small group of scientists and military leaders formed to investigate Roswell and other UFO incidents.

Everything fell apart for Moore when he appeared at a Las Vegas MUFON conference 1989, and confessed his willing participation in disinformation activities involving such people as Paul Bennewitz, a businessperson who found himself immersed in an “X-Files” sort of odyssey after giving a report about his UFO encounter, which included films and photographs, to the Kirtland Air Force Base.

Moore claimed that he had worked with such curious fringe UFO figures as Richard Doty, a former Air Force Sergeant and possible government agent, in making Bennewitz believe that he had proof that ETs were present on Earth, and of the existence of a cover-up. In those days, Doty was allegedly working with a team of intelligence agents who gave themselves bird-like nicknames and called their little group, “The Aviary.” Part of Moore’s activities may have included the MJ-12 episode, although Stanton Friedman and others believe they can prove that at least some of those documents are genuine.

Obviously, Moore’s credibility went out the window with that confession. Doty and other alleged “Aviary” members are still around, but it’s hard to say whether any of them can be believed. One would think that, if their activities were officially sanctioned, they wouldn’t be so free and easy to reveal the dirty details. Indeed, they’d be directed to say nothing in the interests of national security; that is, assuming these activities really happened, and that they didn’t just go rogue.

These days, reports of such unsavory activities are almost non-existent. I suppose it’s possible that Moore, Doty and the rest of that crowd are little more than glory seekers who told these tall tales in the quest for fame and fortune. If that was their true motive, they failed.

I dare say few people remember these characters nowadays. Sure, someone who has read the original Berlitz/Moore/Friedman book might be curious about Moore’s fate, but little more. Moore is still around, though he hasn’t participated in the UFO field since feeding information to author Greg Bishop for his 2005 book, “Project Beta: The Story of Paul Bennewitz, National Security, and the Creation of a Modern UFO Myth.” Berlitz died in 2003. Stanton Freidman is still an active and respected member of the UFO community.

The Bennewitz affair is also covered extensively in a new book by UFO investigator Chris Lambright, “X Descending,” which is featured on this weekend’s episode of The Paracast.

Unidentified Aerial Phenomena sightings were reported over Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Massachusetts. Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Sightings of UFOs also occurred in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, and England and Scotland in the United Kingdom.

    Special Reports

India – Vimanas (UFOs) Flew in 4,000 B.C.

In Indian ancient Vedic writings the topmost authority in the material universe are known as Brahma, and he lives in the highest material planetary system, called Brahmaloka. In these writings they describe UFO like craft called Vimanas flown by angelic like alien beings. Numerous temples are topped with UFO like architecture or Vimanas.

Mukteswar Temple Bhubaneswar, India and many others have Vimana (UFO) shapes sitting at the top of the Temples.

These extraterrestrial angelic visitors are real and not simply myths, but are based on actual visits by angels, visitors, watchers, or ET, or whatever you choose to call them. They are given credit for bringing writing and civilization to Earth.

According to Dr. V. Raghavan, retired head of the Sanskrit department of India's prestigious University of Madras, contends that centuries-old documents in Sanskrit (the classical language of India and Hinduism) prove that aliens from outer space visited his nation. "Fifty years of researching this ancient works convinces me that there are livings beings on other planets, and that they visited earth as far back as 4,000 B.C.,” The scholar says. "There is a just a mass of fascinating information about flying machines, even fantastic science fiction weapons, that can be found in translations of the Vedas (scriptures), Indian epics, and other ancient Sanskrit text.

"In the Mahabharata (writings), there is notion of divine lighting and ray weapons, even a kind of hypnotic weapon. And in the Ramayana writings, there is a description of Vimanas or flying machines that navigated at great heights. "These were space vehicles similar to the so-called flying saucers reported throughout the world today.

Photo courtesy of Commander Graham Bethune.

The Ramayana even describes a beautiful chariot which 'arrived shining, a wonderful divine car that sped through the air'. In another passage, there is mention of a chariot being seen 'sailing overhead like a moon.' "The references in the Mahabharata are no less astounding: At Rama's behest, the magnificent chariot rose up to a mountain of cloud with a tremendous din. Another passage reads: "Bhima flew with his Vimana on an enormous ray which was as brilliant as the sun and made a noise like the thunder of a storm." In the ancient Vymanka-Shastra (science of aeronautics), there is a description of a Vimana: "An apparatus which can go by its own force, from one place to place or globe to globe."

Dr. Raghavan points out, "The text's revelations become even more astounding. Thirty-one parts of which the machine consists are described, including a photographing mirror underneath. The text also enumerates 16 kinds of metal that are needed to construct the flying vehicle: "But only three of them are known to us today. The rest remain untranslatable." Thanks to the India Daily.

In India it was, and still is, believed that man descended from gods who flew fiery crafts. The ancient Indian Vedic texts refer to Vimanas or craft that match our descriptions of UFOs. The Mahabharata ancient religious writing claim the gods, in cloud-borne chariots, and bright celestial cars flew in the sky. The Indians built thousands of temples with amazing objects sitting at the top that depict how the gods flew aboard their craft called Vimanas.

The Vedas are sacred scriptures believed by Hindu tradition to be not of human origin, but composed by the gods from a previous age. The Mysore International Academy of Sanskrit Studies says the Mahabharata and Ramayana manuscripts describe automatic ships adapted for travel on land, sea or in the air.

They flew from planet to planet.

In India the temples are usually shown with disc shaped objects perched at the top. Here in Bhubaneswar the Temple City of eastern India in a literal sense means the 'God's World.' The city has 600 temples many have with what looks like a typical disc perched at the top. Bhubaneswar is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Orissa that depicts a unique pattern of construction showcasing the way of Hindu architectural splendor. The temple walls are artistically carved out of numerous sculptures depicting the scenes from courtiers, celestial dancers, birds, divine animals or scenes from religious epics and legends.

The Lingaraj temple - the largest of these is an outstanding specimen of the Orissa style of temple building.

The temple, dedicated to Tribhuwaneswar or 'Lord of the Three Worlds'(Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva). Lord Brahma is the first member of the Brahmanical triad, Vishnu being the second and Shiva, the third. Brahma is the god of creation and he is traditionally accepted as the Creator of the entire universe. Lord Vishnu holds a discus which always returns by itself after being thrown. He rides a huge flying creature, called Gandara. His home is in a heaven. Many religions throughout the world have beliefs indicating God and his messengers ride in space ships.

Mr. Prabhu said. Sanskrit epics are the flying chariots employed by various gods in the Error! Hyperlink reference not valid.: such as the Sun chariot and several other Vedic deities are transported by flying wheeled chariots.

    Mukteshwar Temple, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India

Mukteshwar Temple, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India II.jpgIndia on October 22, 2008, launched its moon rocket called Chandrayaan-1 — which means "Moon Craft" in ancient Sanskrit — from the Sriharikota space center for a mission aimed at laying the groundwork for further Indian space expeditions. A close and careful study of the Vedic literature tells of a collection of primeval poetry but a varied literature of a powerful and dynamic society where the people had the knowledge of meteorological concepts and the strength of the wind blowing at high speed. The spacecraft could become invisible using the lead alloy Thamogarbha loha. The craft would absorb light around it in a photo chemical reaction that would make it disappear. On testing the metal mentioned in the formula in the laboratory of Birla Institute of Science, Mr. Prabhu found the metal absorbed 78 per cent of laser light, and could easily absorbed, giving ample proof that there existed a technology to make things invisible.

Also the use of an alloy of copper, zinc and lead made the spacecraft's body resist corrosion by 1000 times over that of the current levels. Using Ararakamra material for the axle and wheels it was possible for the craft to make `U' turns and serpentine movements.

As the spacecraft had to be capable of resisting high temperature, on reentering our atmosphere from outer space, the craft was made with a metal called `Raja Loha Its special feature was that apart from resisting heat, it converted light from lightning into energy. The solar power, when coupled with gamma rays produced nuclear energy that had the power to propel a rocket', Mr. Prabhu observed.

The Ramayana describes a Vimanas as a double-deck, circular flying cylindrical craft with portholes and a dome. It flew with the speed of the wind and gave forth a melodious sound.

Mr. Prabhu said he had submitted the model and some more information on the `super metal' to the Indian Metal Society Conference and further claimed that the advisor to the government on scientific affairs. He has proposed a project called `Bharadwaja Institute of Vedic Science and Technology', the objective of which was to derive, decipher and reproduce advanced methodologies and processes from Vedic and post-Vedic Sanskrit texts, for which he sought government's support.

Only a few years ago, the Chinese discovered some Sanskrit documents in Lhasa, Tibet and sent them to the University of Chandigarh to be translated. Dr. Ruth Reyna of the University said recently that the documents contain directions for building interstellar spaceships! Their method of propulsion, she said, was "anti- gravitational" and was based upon a system analogous to that of "laghima," the unknown power of the ego existing in man’s physiological makeup, "a centrifugal force strong enough to counteract all gravitational pull."

Dr. Reyna said that on board these machines, which were called "Astras” by the text, the ancient Indians could have sent a detachment of men onto any planet, according to the document, which is thought to be thousands of years old. The manuscripts were also said to reveal the secret of "antima"; "the cap of invisibility" and "garima"; "how to become as heavy as a mountain of lead." Naturally, Indian scientists did not take the texts very seriously, but then became more positive about the value of them when the Chinese announced that they were including certain parts of the data for study in their space program! This was one of the first instances of a government admitting to be researching anti-gravity.

The hundreds of ancient pyramids in China and Tibet indicate a huge work force was used to build these structures to launch flying vehicles. The Chinese claim they were built by extraterrestrials with white skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. It’s logical they flew south to India just over the Himalayan Mountains. The pyramid height helps in collecting electrical and anti-gravity energy for the craft. http://www.indiaserver.com/

    Fifteenth Century Art Shows UFOs

A typical example is the Madonna con Bambino e San Giovannino (Madonna and Child with the Infant Saint John) attributed to Sebastiano Mainardi. The object in Mainardi's painting is a "radiant cloud” The painting is from the end of the fifteenth century and is now on display in the Sala d'Ercole in Palazzo Vecchio, Florence.

Examining it, we see in the upper background, behind the Madonna, a strange oval shape suspended in the sky. Some UFOlogists describe it as "an airborne object, leaden in color, inclined to port, sporting a 'dome' or 'turret,' apparently identifiable as an oval-shaped moving flying Object.

Kepler to be Presented at the 28th National Space Symposium

COLORADO SPRINGS --March 7, 2012) - The NASA Kepler Mission has been selected as the 2012 recipient of the Space Foundation’s John L. "Jack" Swigert, Jr., Award for Space Exploration. The award will be presented April 16 during the opening ceremony of the 28th National Space Symposium at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The NASA Kepler Mission is being recognized for the discovery of 61 confirmed extrasolar planets and over 2,300 planet candidates in the first 16 months of observations from May 2009 to September 2010.

The Kepler Mission findings contain well over 200 Earth-size planet candidates and more than 900 that are smaller than twice Earth-size. Of the 46 planet candidates found in the habitable zone, the region in the planetary system where liquid water could exist, ten of these candidates are smaller than twice Earth-size. The cumulative catalog includes: 246 Earth-size, 676 super Earth-size, 1,118 Neptune-size, 210 Jupiter-size and 71 candidates that are larger than twice the size of Jupiter.

The Mission's planet confirmations include these firsts: The first unquestionably rocky planet (Kepler-10b), The first six-planet system (Kepler-11), The first small planet in the habitable zone (Kepler-22b), habitable zone, The first Earth-size planet discoveries (Kepler-20e&f), The smallest exoplanets ever detected (KOI-961.01, KOI-961.02, KOI-961.03), Three worlds (Kepler-16b, Kepler-34b, Kepler-35b) that orbit around two stars, establishing a new class of planetary system

The Kepler Mission's objective is to survey a portion of the galaxy to determine what fraction of stars host Earth-size and smaller planets in the

The progression toward smaller planets at longer orbital periods suggests that Earth-size planets in the habitable zone are forthcoming if, indeed, such planets are abundant. Kepler-22b Planet

“With the rapid pace of space-related scientific study, we sometimes fail to realize just how extraordinary missions like Kepler are,” said Space Foundation Chief Executive Officer Elliot Pulham. “They are fundamentally changing what we know about our universe and reshaping our understanding of planetary structure and formation.”

The John L. "Jack" Swigert, Jr., Award for Space Exploration honors astronaut Jack Swigert, a Colorado native who served with Navy Captain James A. Lovell, Jr., and Fred Haise on the legendary Apollo 13 lunar mission, which was aborted after the perilous rupture of an oxygen tank en route to the moon and returned safely to Earth.

    Star Wars Operational?

More than 25 years ago, President Ronald Reagan challenged the U.S. scientific community to develop antiballistic missile technologies that would improve our national security and reduce reliance on nuclear weapons. Today, the Missile Defense Agency, or MDA, is answering that challenge.

The MDA has fielded an initial capability to protect the U.S and our allies against limited ballistic missile attack.

The Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) is becoming more integrated, robust, and global every day.

It is the policy of the United States to deploy as soon as is technologically possible an effective National Missile Defense system capable of defending the territory of the United States against limited ballistic missile attack with funding subject to the annual appropriation of funds for National Missile Defense.

On Feb. 14, 2012 - The Airborne Laser Test Bed's (ALTB) final take off from Edwards Air Force Base, California as it transitions into long-term storage at Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona.

NATO Will Switch On Its (Tiny) Missile Shield in May

Spencer Ackerman writes, “This is what years of development, revamp and acrimony have yielded: Starting in May, Europe will have the beginning of an operational shield against ballistic missiles, courtesy of NATO. The system will be modest at first, not much more than SM-3 interceptor missiles aboard the U.S.S. Monterrey, a ship enabled with the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system and stationed in the Mediterranean. It’ll be aided by an early-warning radar system Turkey’s hosting at its Kurecik base.

But together, they form what a senior NATO official told reporters on Wednesday was an “interim capability” to stop incoming missiles — the first, ever, in Europe. NATO will formally announce it in May at its big summit in Chicago, and when defense chiefs meet here on Thursday, they’ll get updated on its progress.”

There’s a long, long way to go in what the Obama administration calls its “phased adaptive” approach to the Euro missile shield. The SM-3 interceptors aboard the Monterrey — the first of many such ships headed to the Mediterranean can only stop short- to intermediate-range missiles. It will take years to add even the entire easternmost parts of the continent to the shield — the “phased” part of “phased adaptive” — as its first ground-based anti-missile missiles, which will be hosted in Romania, won’t be operational until 2015. And the shield won’t stop intercontinental missiles until 2020.

The Bush administration pushed for a ground-based missile shield on the continent early in its tenure, primarily aimed at blocking incoming Russian missiles. The Obama administration transformed the plan into one based, at first, at sea, maneuverable to address missile threats from different countries as they emerged.” It was based on the idea that Iran is the greatest missile threat to Europe right now, not Russia, but it got Obama slammed for allegedly selling out Eastern Europe to Moscow.

NATO officials here are big on portraying the SM-3 as a proven technology. MIT and Cornell scientists found that “ in eight or nine of the 10 SM-3 intercept tests from 2002 to 2009 ,” the interceptor failed to destroy an oncoming warhead. The Pentagon has rejected this claim.

NATO also wouldn’t discuss how Iran would react to an announcement of an infant missile shield. “It’s aimed at incoming missiles, not a [specific] country,” said the senior NATO official , but the White House its designed to stop Iranian missiles — and Iran, is still making threats to close a crucial waterway .

    Sightings in the United States

    Alabama Triangle

MUSCLE SHOALS -- I had just come on duty at the security gate for Wise Alloys on December 28, 2011, when I noticed off in the distance a helicopter slowly traversing a field a mile away. I watched it as it came closer to the plant and realized it did not make noise. I began to examine it more closely as it came toward some new construction; a new smelter building. It disappeared behind the building, and then came right over the top and I realized that I had no idea what it was. I took out my cell phone and tried to get the camera function on; my hands were shaking pretty badly. I got it on, looked up, and it was almost directly over me at about fifty feet altitude. I took a couple of shots as it began to ascend. It got up pretty high; I'm not sure maybe a thousand feet, and then it just vanished.

The object had three distinct lights on the underside that changed in intensity as it took off... very blue and slightly violet. It was a circle cut in half with the flat side down. Thanks to UFO Casebook and Thanks to Ken Pfeifer MUFON NJ www.worldufophotos.org

    California Burning Cloud

Ludlow -- My wife, daughter and I were traveling east-bound on Interstate 40 at 2:30 PM on March 20, 2012, ten 10 miles west of Ludlow. I was driving and noticed a cloud that was rapidly expanding and blowing off giant trails of hot burning debris all over the desert. The cloud seemed to be about 500-1000 feet above the desert floor, stationary and literally exploding in mid-air. There were no fire trucks or other human activity to explain the event. My Wife filmed as we traveled past and we have incredible footage. The only discernable object around the area was a bright white orb about the size of a large beach ball. It was intermittently in and out of the area surrounding the exploding white cloud. The cloud continued to expand to over a mile wide over the mountains as we drove away. We cannot make out what was inside the cloud or why it had massive explosions. Thanks to MUFON CMS

    Colorado Lights

Northglen – On March 24, 2012, while at a Chili cook off with some of my wife’s friends, one of them looked up into the sky and said, “ What’s that?” a group of us looked up and saw a orb like object high moving north quickly at 1000 feet. It had a greenish/yellow/ orange glow and we saw it for only ten seconds on St Patrick’s Day. Thanks to MUFON CMS

    Connecticut Lights

Simsbury -- I live in a small town with my grandparents 15 miles from Bradley Int'l Airport and on March 25, 2012, my grandfather and I went out to walk our dog. At 11:10 PM were two very close together sets of lights at nearly a standstill. The lights were too close for any airplanes to be together, which was what made me realize it was something very abnormal.

The lights slowly started accelerating away, maintaining a perfect "golf ball’s width at arm's length" for about 2 minutes and 45 seconds. Then, all of a sudden, the lights broke their distance, increased speed, and started rapidly descending until they disappeared.

I had this vague growing feeling that these lights were part of a larger object that was unseen. What compounded my belief that this was an actual UFO sighting was that I believe I saw two military aircraft fly overhead just before and after the sighting. Thanks to MUFON CMS

    Florida Orb

Tampa -- I was heading east on Hillsborough Avenue at 50th Street and noticed a strange red ORB/light in the sky on March 26, 2012, at 9 PM. The ORB was 300 feet high heading southeast slightly pulsating and the speed of a helicopter.

When I stopped at the light I took three pictures. I pulled into a driveway and pointed my green laser well in front of the ORB that immediately slowed down. As I was switching my camera to video it started pulsating faster and started dimming until I could no longer see it. Thanks to MUFON CMS

    Kansas Orbs

This random photo caught orbs in the sky on March 25, 2012, during morning with planes, contrails and chemtrails.

When reviewed my photos I saw orbs in one of my photos. Thanks to MUFON CMS

    Massachusetts Triangle

Weymouth – I saw a triangle shaped black metallic craft with lights on each corner and a slow pulsing light in the middle on the underside of the craft on March 14, 2011. The lights were all whitish looking and it had an upside-down cockpit similar to what F-22s use. The craft had a gun-metallic design, and it made no noise and hovered over a vacant field nearby. My wife and I observed it rotate in an odd manner; making a complete 270 degree turn to turn right and then proceeded to move off slowly.

Then it moved at a gradual pace until it was out of sight. After chasing it and losing it, we returned home where we found it again hovering nearby as if it was waiting for us. We chased it again and it did the same thing and towards Boston. It came along side us, backing straight up (the long end of the triangle rather than the point. I had always liked the thought of UFOs, but doubted they truly existed; now I think differently. Thanks to Peter Davenport, Director National UFO Reporting Center http://www.UFOcenter.com

    Michigan Lights

Detroit -- While driving east on Eight Mile Road near Woodward Avenue at 8 pm, on March 7, 2012, my cousin and I saw a bright glowing object. It glowed too much to be a plane, and was too low and too bright to be a star.

We followed to get a better view and once we had a clear view, I stopped the car and filmed when another glowing object, blinking on and off appeared alongside it.

I also took a quick video of Venus and Jupiter in another part of the sky to show that is not what we saw. As bright as Venus and Jupiter were that night, they did not glow nearly as bright as these glowing lights. Thanks to MUFON CMS

New York World War II UFO

I am forwarding UFO picture with my dad. (See above his head.)

I think the year was 1942 and the location was a military base in New York. My father was 17 or 18? I just found the object in photo a week ago. I have also had other UFO sightings: Dad worked at the Hanford plant in Washington State in 1952. There were 1,000 people living there working at the plant. They all sighted objects hovering over the plant for 20 minutes. I was 5 and heard later about it.

Note: The color and lines in the enlargement of the object are due to the scanning process that was used to scan the photo and therefore do not define the object. Contrast increased. Thanks to William Puckett, Director http://www.UFOsnw.com

    North Carolina Light

DUNN -- On March 25, 2012, I was cooking dinner when my husband came inside telling me to come out and look up at the sky. I pulsing object getting extremely bright and then fading away to blackness before coming up again. There were storms in the area but the light was so bright that it had no problems shining straight through the clouds where the stars around it appeared dim and were covered completely when the clouds passed over. There seemed to be projections that came off of it like plumes. My husband took some 30-second time lapse shots on his Nikon D80 as a plane passed above the object. About 30 minutes later it was now just visible through the top of the big pine tree to the left of our house. It had previously been well above the top of that tree and was perceptibly moving around. You can see that the trail of the object does not move in the same direction as the stars around it. Thanks to MUFON CMS

    Ohio Triangle

SANDUSKY – Standing on my back porch on March 19, 2012, I looked toward the northern sky and noticed red-orange objects beginning to ascend from behind the trees. At first, the objects appeared to be fireworks; but the cluster began to include several ascending objects, all to a particular area of the sky. None of the objects fell toward the ground; instead, they all ascended and subsequently faded into the perfectly clear night sky. There was no sound coming from the objects. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Cincinnati -- On the way into downtown my friend and I saw a triangle shaped object hovering in the clear night sky. We drove towards it at 65 MPH for five minutes and the object did not appear to move relative to our position. It had four bright white lights with one on each corner of the delta and one in the center. It also seemed to have something like a fin on the bottom in between the center corner light and central light. We drove directly under it and could not see it while it was above us. I put the side window down the object could not be located anywhere in the sky. It was just gone. Thanks to CMS MUFON

http://www.mufoncms.com/files/36671_submitter_file1__ufo.jpg Bainbridge tOwNSHIp – I was sitting on the back deck visiting with a friend looking at Jupiter on March 17, 2012. I turned and saw a circular like falling star with at rainbow trail falling fast. It was much larger than a star and the front was half-moon shaped. It just vanished before my wife and Brother-in-law could see it. I never saw anything like that in my life. Then afterwards, thought of what it could have been. Meteorite burning up; and it just vanished. Thanks to CMS MUFON

    Pennsylvania Large Triangle

Johnstown -- On March 13, 2012, four miles from town at 9:30 pm, I spotted a 400 foot black triangle with three lights on ends moving slowly south. The triangle was clearly visible not and not an outline. This was a huge craft that made no sound. Thanks to Peter Davenport, Director National UFO Reporting Center

    Texas Lights

Seguin -- I was driving home from shooting some landscape photography on March 25, 2012, on Texas 46 just north of US 90 about 8:35 PM. I was looking at the crescent moon lined up with Jupiter and Venus when I noticed what I thought were tail lights reflecting on my windshield. I pulled over and saw three red lights in a triangle formation with a fourth light off to the left. They hovered for about 15 seconds and I pulled out my camera and managed to get one picture as they started to move north and suddenly disappeared. Thanks to MUFON CMS

    Wisconsin Three Triangles Spotted

West Allis -- I saw a triangle with lights at the points traveling in the clouds, and then two more followed about 15 seconds later on March 7, 2012, at 7:40 PM. Twenty seconds later I saw two more moving the same way "inside the clouds" that were bigger than planes or at least looked like they were. They came from the west heading east towards Lake Michigan. AustraliaAdelaid17March12.jpgAustralia Photo

Adelaide -- I took this photo of a helicopter in front of my place on of March 17, 2012, at around 3:55 pm. It was a police helicopter flying around western side of Adelaide. Again, to my surprise it shows an object to the right of the helicopter. What is it??? I have no idea but would love to know. If anyone can analyze photos my email address is: bonza1311@hotmail.com and I can send the original photo to you. Thanks to TT.

    Brazil Creatures

São Paulo – The boys saw and photographed three creatures in the woods that were gray, with three protuberances on their heads. They emitted blue light. This happened in Jardinópolis in the city, Thanks to CMS MUFON

    Canada Lights

Sarnia , Ontario -- I was outside on my 2nd story balcony on March 25, 2012, when I noticed a particularly bright star that flashed multicolored and very random brightness. It definitely didn't look like any of the other stars, or planets. The altitude was roughly above the tree tops. This is the second time I’ve seen it in almost the same spot within a couple weeks. I believe it’s a UFO. I took some pictures the first time I saw it and they didn't turn out so great, so I took some more tonight and they turned out weird... it doesn't look like a star at all. It seems to be constantly moving. I’m using a Kodak easy share m531 digital camera with 14 mega pixels and 3x optical zoom. VMS

    Colombia UFO

Medellin -- an object was videotaped moving from right to left, or north to south on January 1, 2012,

    New Zealand Calls...

Carole Hunter writes, “The western world, excuse typically "Economics dictates"...as they have done here, dismantled their "UFO" units within their defense structures...now no reporting points, only Police or Civil Aviation agencies wasted effort. So BRAVO, to Chile, and I guess we should show appreciation to General Bermudaz and the government of Chili for investigating UFOs, there is still hope out there. I can personally attest to the concern, that there is a danger to aviation near-contact...not just a collision, but knowing personally of the likelihood of high energy emissions, exactly what type burnt my face, eyes, eyelids, arms...Caused an egg like skin membrane to form over the eyeballs (had to be peeled off) a radiation of sorts. The real danger for modern aircraft is the "Saturation" of the "Fly-by wire" computer controls such as on the AIRBUS A320. Close contact could result in loss of aircraft control. I have notified our Air Force about this, after filing what I captured on camera here, and closely following WW2 vintage aircraft, two years ago..Their response?" It wasn`t in controlled airspace"...Thanks to Rick Pinfold...

    Portugal Unidentified Object

I became aware of the UFO in the photo after reviewing the picture on the screen. At the end of the year when I was at a gathering of friends, one friend said he saw lights in one of the last nights of the festival, over the dance floor. Until then, he did not know about the photo I picked up in the morning of the festival.

Despite the photo, I have not seen any kind of phenomenon. I wonder what you have to say about the picture. Thanks to MUFON CMS

    Spain Light

Benidorm -- On March 14, 2012 around 11 pm, I was in my bedroom looking out of my window when this big light appears that was stationary. So I quickly rushed to get my Sony H70 digital camera, and tried to shoot a video of the object but the 10x optical zoom could not get close enough, so I switched it to photo mode using VGA quality so I was able to zoom in using 72x special zoom. I managed to take just one photograph of the light and then it completely disappeared. I’m the original owner of the photo and it my Copyright. Thanks to MUFON CMS

    UK/Scotland Photo

GLASGOW – My two friends and were out looking to take photos of the incoming lightning storm on August 1, 2009. We went to a vantage point and took several shots. Yesterday, I was going over the photos in Photoshop saw the image on the left hand side in the clouds. I can say there is no way it could be a known aircraft.1st thing is the size, then the faint out line. The order of the lights is not what I am aware of as standard configurations. It had me more than a little shocked at what I think I may well be seeing. I can’t say what it was doing since it was long time ago. Thanks to MUFON CMS

    UK/England Saturn Shape

Scarborough -- Shortly after 7 pm on March 20, 2012, in the North Bay on a beautiful clear night about 15 independent people witnessed a UFO. From an initial flash which appeared like a six light flare that ran along the sky horizontally in white and red colors and extremely bright about a mile out to sea! The lights in the sky seemed to have two central brighter and larger lights which panned-out to form a straight line of light with three smaller lights either side. In the distance way above the horizon line was a permanent light which seemingly randomly changed from green, to orange, and to white stationary light in a non-sequential manner no this wasn’t a star, helicopter or aircraft.

This light seemed stationary for at least five minutes then disappeared, reappeared then two other smaller lights appeared at varying stages adjacent to the initial light. A 2nd horizontal light burst was witnessed by all there. Several of the witnesses were local fishermen and one of them stated he seen one of the lights zip along the sky and abruptly halt, then seemed to disappear shortly before we arrived at just after 7 pm. We all witnessed the lights start moving, stop, appear randomly, and move in diagonal line at previously unobserved speeds for a known aircraft. There was also no noise. If this was a military aircraft exercise, it surpassed all expectations of what military aircraft can do! It was a very eye-opening, interesting observation for all those who saw this strange & exciting spectacle. Thanks to CMS MUFON

http://www.mufoncms.com/files/36664_submitter_file1__P3220202.JPG MANCHESTER – I was coming home from a football match on March 21, 2012, and saw an object much bigger than a plane. My son saw it first and said, “

What the hell is that?” We have never seen anything like it before, it was like Saturn in shape but silver and smaller, it made no noise, and it had lights flashing. I was excited to have seen one. It disappeared in the distance.
I took a photo a bit too far away and the window glass reflection makes it look nothing like it was.

I was sitting at my desk, pondering how I could get people interested in getting my work of the last thirteen years. I have put together a DVD of Filer's Files with hundreds of great photographs and UFO sightings.

Additionally, I have decided to include my book within the DVD that includes George Ritter's exciting abduction story by Linda Moulton Howe. Broadcaster David E. Twichell has also included much of his excellent dialog for a donation of only $50.

We also include a year's subscription. Please include your e-mail address and mailing address.

    Van: "Starchild Project" <contact@starchildproject.com>

Every once in a while I am blown away ....

....with a website someone sends me. That happened today. As some of you may know, I am a huge fan of the book "The First American" by Christopher Hardaker because it details the absolute rotten corruption at the heart of archeology in the U.S., and basically around the world.

Archeology pretends to be a science, but it's more like a group of jokers who have gotten together to play huge pranks on the rest of us. One of their many pranks is that humans are "new" to the Americas, and they distort or suppress all of the contrary evidence that goes counter to their current paradigm.

I know, you often hear me say the same exact kind of corruption is at work to suppress wider awareness and knowledge of the facts regarding the Starchild, and because you hear that only from me, it's easy to think I'm some kind of disgruntled wannabe who couldn't make it as a "real" archeologist, so I take out my frustration and bitterness on those who did what I couldn't do.

This how I am often portrayed by critics, but nothing could be further from the truth. When I was in college, I never once thought of getting into archeology. Psychology was my major, and if I had specialized in any form of science, it would have been as a therapist of some kind. Later, my interest in hominoids led me to become a critic of archeology, and their behavior regarding the Starchild has only solidified my deep disdain for them.

Here is the website, if you want to go straight to it, and below the link is a quote from inside the body of it, which comes from archeologists who are dissatisfied with the corruption in their field and who speak out about it, even if they have to do so in pseudonyms to avoid retribution from their peers.

In the past several years not only have researchers battling suppression questioned the objectivity behind mainstream science and anthropology, but so has an increasingly Internet-savvy general public. Online researchers are less inclined to simply trust science once they realize that a single ideology rather than scientific objectivity has been driving interpretations of evidence in areas as important as human origins or human prehistory.

Prior to the Internet, the peer review system in anthropology so effectively blocked conflicting data from publication that the general public had no way of knowing that conflicting data even existed; it believed that mainstream science was giving them a true and balanced interpretation of all known evidence. However, the Internet has changed everything; more people are privy to the fact that dissenting evidence—awareness of which is an absolutely crucial part of critical thinking and objectivity—is being withheld in anthropology while selected evidence is being presented as unchallenged and in the context of what is increasingly being recognized as a belief system or worldview.

As a response, more and more people have joined together to form discussion groups to weigh out the evidence for themselves, express doubts, and otherwise openly challenge proclemations in anthropology presented as science that would never pass as science in any other field. This page will contain links to various such groups. It should make no difference to readers whether these groups are motivated by science alone, or contain members whose concerns include religions or philosophies. What matters, and what skeptics should pay attention to, is that these groups have mounting impirical reasons to doubt the veracity and objectivity of what is presented to them as fact by mainstream science.
