Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

Another geographical triangle, located in the middle of Lake Michigan. It, too, is the site of mysterious disappearances of both land and sea craft….similar characteristics of the Bermuda Triangle, including ghost ships, strange disappearances and even UFO sightings. “There’s been some strange disappearances out there, there’s been many ships that have been lost that haven’t been found.” Bill Wangemann is a historian from Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He’s spent a lifetime gathering tales about the Lake Michigan triangle. the legend doesn’t end with sunken ships; nearly 40 planes have disappeared over Lake Michigan too. Probably the most famous is northwest airlines flight 2501 that took off from New York City headed for Minneapolis in June of 1950 and plunged into Lake Michigan just off Benton Harbor. No one survived. Then, there are the sightings of UFO’s and other strange anomalies in the sky. In fact there have been so many sightings of strange objects and phantom planes that the Federal Aviation Administration created a special lake reporting service to catalog the reported sightings. And yet still, thousands make the journey through the Triangle every season. “There’s dozen’s of these stories about different things that have occurred out there and people that have been lost and sailors that have disappeared off of ships and some people claim that there is something supernatural going on out on the lake,” says Wangemann.
The wreck of the schooner Rosa Belle and the loss of 11 crew members and passengers, all members of the Benton Harbor cult House of David, shocked the nation in the fall of 1921. The wreck was discovered on Oct. 30, floating upside down by the Grand Trunk car ferry Ann Arbor No. 4. The captain of the ferry said it appeared as if the schooner had been in a collision with another vessel. But no other ship was found to have been in a collision that week. The aft section was smashed, the cabin was wrenched away from the deck and the ship’s rigging was floating loosely about the hull. The mystery of what happened to the Rosa Belle was never solved. Strange too was the fact that it was the second almost identical wreck for the Rosa Belle. The vessel capsized in the same area and drifted ashore near Grand Haven, Michigan, in August, 1875. Ten crew members were lost. The wreck was recovered at that time and rebuilt. Among the strangest of the mysteries was the disappearance of the schooner Thomas Hume, which disappeared without a trace in a Lake Michigan gale on May 21, 1891, while sailing empty from Chicago to Muskegon, Michigan to pick up a load of lumber. Seven sailors, including Captain George C. Albrecht, were lost with the ship. Even though the lake was searched thoroughly, not a stick of lumber or piece of flotsam from a wreck was ever found. Old sailors speculated that the Hume, a wooden vessel, could not have sunk without some wreckage floating away. To this day, the Hume’s disappearance remains unsolved. Cave Creek, AZ – 7/20/2003: We were on a camping trip in the black mountains about 45 miles north of downtown Phoenix. We first felt an abundance of static electricity in the calmnight air. We stepped out of our tent to get some air when we saw numerous swirling lights. We were all very startled and stayed close together not knowing what to expect. We watched intensely as we saw the lights merge intoone and slowly descend into a clearing approximately 75 feet away. We walked towards the object and saw three beings walk out and slowly look over their craft as if something was wrong with it. They beings looked man like but walked in an exaggerated upright way and very stiffly. It was at this moment that wewere noticed and we all walked toward the beings against our wishes. It felt like we were on a treadmill being drawn toward the craft. The next 45 minutes are very hurtful and make me sick to even think about. World’s Oldest Underground Fire Has Been Burning For 6000 Years In Australia
A subterranean coal seam fire in Australia has been burning continuously for more than six millennia.
The region is known as ‘Burning Mountain’, a hill North of Sydney that was first documented by European explorers. Originally believed to be volcanic in nature, the smoke rising from the ground on the hill wasn’t recognized as a coal seam fire until 1829.
It isn’t clear exactly what sparked the fire in the first place however possibilities include a lighting strike, a forest fire or even aboriginal burning practices.
In some regions coal seam fires are actually quite common, especially in places where coal mining has exposed the seams to heat and oxygen. Often extremely difficult to put out the fires can last for a long time, but 6,000 years is still a record that is unlikely to be broken any time soon. Read more at Gizmodo
Nine newfound penny-sized pieces of parchment belonging to the Dead Sea Scrolls laid unopened for nearly six decades before they were rediscovered in Israel.
The scrolls went unnoticed for years until one scholar came across them while searching through the Israel Antiquities Authority’s (IAA) storerooms, the Times of Israel reported.
“Either they didn’t realize that these were also scrolls, or they didn’t know how to open them,” the IAA’s head of artefact treatment and conservation Pnina Shor explained.
The tiny scrolls were found inside three phylacteries, small leather boxes with Biblical versus written on them (called tefillin) that are worn by Jews during their morning prayers. Their discoverer, Yonatan Adler, had the boxes scanned by CT at a hospital in Israel in hopes there would be parchment inside.
He was right.
Once unopened, the scrolls are expected to shed new light on the religious practices of the Jewish people during the Second Temple Period between the years of 530 BC and 70, an era named for a holy place of worship for the Jewish people that was constructed by the builder of ancient Jerusalem King Herod. The Dome of the Rock stands today where the Second Temple purportedly once stood.
At least two dozen phylactery scrolls were discovered in the 1940s and 50 along with the rest of the Dead Sea Scrolls in a limestone cave in the West Bank’s Qumran in Israel.
“[I] found a number of fragments of tefillin cases from Qumran Cave 4, together with seven rolled-up [phylactery] slips,” Adler told the Times of Israel.
Until now, the scrolls remained bound inside the phylacteries for approximately 2,000 years.
The IAA has been tasked with the difficult job of unrolling the scrolls without damaging them.
“We’re going to do it slowly, but we’ll first consult with all of our experts about how to go about this,” said Schor, who would not reveal when the process would start. “We need to do a lot of research before we start doing this.”
Remains of more than 900 religious manuscripts were found in 11 caves near the Dead Sea in the 1940s and 50s in Qumran. – Fox News

The event discussed here took place a little over a year ago. Due to personal reasons, the protagonist wished to keep her identity a secret and I shall refer to her as “Patricia” in this narrative.
On Friday, 1 March 2013, Patricia – age 27 at the time – was in the kitchen of her house. The time was around 17:15 hours and having completed some chores, she was taking a break. Patricia's kitchen has a window from which the trees of neighboring houses can be seen. Specifically, a palta (avocado tree) located in the back yard of a neighboring property.
She was looking at the bough of this tree when something caught her attention.
According to her story, she saw what she described as “a little man staring back at me” from between the branches and leaves of the tree. The “entity” in question (according to Patricia) was in a squatting position and staring at her fixedly. Alarmed, Patricia ran and called for her husband, who was in another part of their home, to show him what was on the tree. When the husband reached the kitchen and looked through the window, he saw nothing unusual. He tried to calm her down (Patricia was excited and kept repeating “I swear I saw it, it was in the trees, looking at me”), and a few moments later, knowing my interest for events of this sort, she came to my home to tell me the experience.
Some hours later I asked her what she'd seen and asked her to give me as faithful a description as possible of the “little man” (as she called him), and to produce a sketch of the “being”. She told me at first that it reminded her of the character “Gollum” from The Lord of the Rings saga. She estimated its height at around one meter, despite not having seen the figure upright. It was very thin, hairless and with whitish eyes, “huddled” between the branches of the palta tree. She stressed the fact that it stared fixedly at her.
Patricia is quite certain about what she saw. I have known her for many years. She is a person with no interest whatsoever in the UFO phenomenon or in strange “events”, and is not in the least bit fantasy-prone. I am remarking this in my blog specifically because of the degree of trust she inspires in me.
I do not think the following has anything to do with what Patricia claims to have seen (and I do not know it for a fact), but in the months following the apparition, one of the residents of the house adjacent to the palta tree (a neighbor, known to me) contracted a serious disease. Weeks later, in 2014, I learned that this person had committed suicide on account of this malady.
I remain in contact with Patricia. Her life proceeds normally to this day and she has not seen anything out of the ordinary again, for the time being.

A Cleveland, TX, witness reported watching and photographing both a “tornado-looking cloud” just over nearby tree tops as well as “five bright colored orbs moving in a straight line,” according to testimony in Case 52015 closed as an Unknown Aerial Vehicle (UAV) March 3, 2014, from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness looked outside and first noticed a “white, tornado-shaped cloud” over tree tops about 7:50 p.m. on August 20, 2013.
“It was stationary and hovered over the treetops,” the witness stated. “I thought we were going to have a storm, but sky was blue and clear with no rain or thunderstorms. I thought it was strange how long it hovered over trees so I took some pictures.”
But then the witness noticed other strange objects that could not immediately be identified.
“As I took the pictures I noticed under the cloud were five orb-shaped objects that moved slowly under the cloud in a straight line and moved along until they were gone. Te cloud stayed for 15 minutes and then slowly disappeared.”
The case was investigated by Texas MUFON STAR Team Member Charles Stansburge. The case was closed as an Unknown UAV. Cleveland is a city in Liberty County, TX, population 7,954.

Various possible reasons of the missing jet and its location have filled in online aviation forums.

The most extreme explanation goes to UFO or alien theory. Some believe that extra-terrestrial might be the culprit of the missing Malaysian Airlines flight. They say that the plane, together with the passengers, was transported into an outer space wormhole.
UFO enthusiasts and believers are aware that Government has been hiding the truth about extra-terrestrials or UFOs since 1947. The plane took off in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and headed to Beijing, China but the flight did not reach its destination as it lost contact somewhere over Vietnam. The plane just disappeared in radar screens from nearly an hour after takeoff in a good weather condition. There are unconfirmed reports about two oil slicks off the coast but no other signs of the plane. Still no wreckage being found.
There have been many reports about alien abducting ships and planes in the Bermuda Triangle and this incident is believed to continue as long as people sail those seas. Could the extra-terrestrials abducted another plane from another place?
According to Malaysia Airlines chief executive officer Ahmad JauhariYahya, they’re considering all the possibilities as of the moment as they still have no clue on the reason of the disappearance.

A little over a month ago, Facebook and other social media blew up with a photo showing a strange, crab-like humanoid standing by the side of the road between Lybrook and Counselor, NM…very close to the Jicarilla Apache reservation.
The story that accompanied the creepy photo was that a geologist working in the area noticed something strange, and decided to take a heat signature of it. The geologist promptly quit the next day under mysterious circumstances and the photo of the alleged skin walker surfaced on the internet, causing a huge sensation, being shared thousands of times within mere hours. Many believed that the creature was indeed a Skin Walker, or a magical person with the ability to transform into an animal-like creature. However, it didn't take long for the web warriors to put an end to the speculation! It was quickly discovered that the photo in question was actually a still from a MOVIE!
That movie would be the 1982 low-budget gruesome British sensation, Xtro. Released in the U.S. in 1983 and directed by Harry Bromley Davenport, Xtro is a sci-fi horror involving a man who was abducted by aliens, only to be returned three years later. Only…he wasn't the same when he returned.
Xtro became somewhat of a cult classic, spawning two sequels that had nothing to do with the original plot. As late as March 2011, Davenport claimed to be working on the next movie in the installment, Xtro IV. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything past that date confirming whether or not the movie was ever made…but it seems like this mysterious picture that no one is taking credit for posting might have been the perfect viral marketing ploy! It's definitely sparked an interest in the original movie with a generation who wasn't even born when it came out.
It's also an example of something I blogged about awhile back; the importance of cinematic research! As researchers, its SO important to keep up with pop culture…and how people can use pop culture to relate to, or in this case mimic, a paranormal event! So, go watch some horror films…even some really bad, cheesy 80s gems…and don't feel guilty about it; you're doing legitimate research.

One of the many bizarre encounters from Italy in 1978
Location: Near Gastagh, Vicenza, Italy Date: November 24 1978
Time: 11:45 a.m. Taking advantage of the fact that, though cold, it was a sunny day, the witness, Signor Angelo D’Ambros, aged 61 had gone to gather firewood in a copse in the nearby locality of Gastagh. The time was just about a quarter of an hour before noon when, turning around to set down a branch which he had just been chopping up, he was gripped with horror at the terrifying sight that met his eyes, for there, extremely close to him, and watching him, were two “beings” with only approximately human-like features. They were suspended in the air at about 40cms from the ground. One of them, he estimated, was about 1m 20cms in height, and the other about 1m. They were extremely thin, and a yellowish skin that was stretched out on the head and hands of the bigger creature, which was the nearer to him of the two. Their heads were bald, with enormous ears that rose straight up and ended in a point. They had great white eyes, sunken and without eyelids, set above a nose of pronounced dimensions which almost reached down beyond the lower lip, the latter being pretty fleshy, and large mouths, displaying, at their extremities, two long, pointed “tusks.” From immediately below the knee right up to the neck, the two creatures appeared to be clad in dark very closely-fitting overalls, which also covered the arms down as far as the wrists, leaving the hands and the rest of the legs and the feet uncovered. The hands and feet were of a remarkable size and out of proportion to the rest of the body, with extremely long fingers and long nails. At first the two creatures were side by side but, straight away, the shorter of them began shifting constantly between the right side and the left side of D’Ambros, in very rapid leaps and without moving its long feet, almost as though it were gliding on an invisible surface, and making, with these constant movements a very faint sound of air displacement and a rustling of the vegetation as the tips of its long ears brushed the lowest branches of the nearby trees. Trying to overcome his terror, which had almost literally frozen the blood in his veins at the sight of these two beings—these ‘monsters’ as he termed them during the investigation—he shouted, “Help!” at the top of his voice, and then managed to summon up the strength to ask them repeatedly who they were and what were their intentions towards him. But it was all totally useless. From the mouth of the shorter creature came only incomprehensible mumblings. Suddenly after the witness had fixed his gaze attentively on the taller creature, which had remained virtually motionless in the same position, shifting only slightly, and always at a distance of about a meter from him, the creature attempted to get hold of his machete or billhook (axe), seizing it by the part at the tip which has not cutting-edge. D’Ambros was resolved not to let him have it, it being his sole means of self-defense in the event that the creatures should demonstrate clearly hostile intentions. So he gripped it very firmly by the handle, which is enveloped in a thick sheath of solid leather, and has a hook on the end for hanging the tool up on a wall or on a belt. The creature again tried to seize the billhook, grasping it this time a little lower down, with the result that the witness seemed to feel a slight electrical shock, then, perceiving that D’Ambros still had hold of the tool, the creature returned to the attack, this time using both hands to grasp the machete lower down and much more fully, still by the non-cutting edge. In this, its third attempt, the creature employed exceptional force, which D’Ambros was able to resist thanks only to the fact that his own strength had been so considerably increased by the sheer desperation that had overtaken him as he realized that his cries for help had brought nobody to aid him, and the result was that once again he felt—and this time pretty clearly—an electrical discharge in his hand and up his arm. At this point the witness got really furious, as it seemed that the creature was absolutely unwilling to desist from its attempts to get the machete off him, so, with the other hand, he grabbed a large branch that he had previously cut, determined to hit the creature with it and put an end to a situation that had brought him to the very brink of panic. The two creatures presumably recognized the threat inherent in this gesture for they fled instantly. The witness, completely recovering his normal calm, now felt impelled by such an irresistible curiosity as to the provenance of the two “dis-human” creatures, with their so ‘near human’ features (apart from their height) that he even found enough strength to pursue them, and ran as fast as he could along the mule-track along which they had come. As the track takes a sharp turn he soon lost sight of them until finally, in a nearby clearing, at a distance estimated by him to be from twenty to thirty meters, he beheld a strange oblong “object” standing on four landing feet straddled fairly widely apart with their ends thrust some centimeters into the ground. On the middle of the top, the object, which was discoidal, was surmounted by a small dome. The ‘disc’ of a solid, metallic, and extremely substantial appearance, was of a bright red color on the upper part, including the dome and blue on the lower half, with a white middle band clearly separating the two differently colored halves. The legs were of an aluminum grayish shade. The mysterious craft was about four meters wide and about two meters high at the center where the dome was, without including the legs. Scarcely had he caught sight of the craft when he saw one of those long hands closing, from inside the dome, a sort of trap-door by drawing it backwards. A few seconds later the disc took off slantingly at a staggering speed and in total silence, producing a burst of red flame and vanished from his sight in an instant behind high fir-trees. D’Ambros returned home at once, keeping to himself the secret of this ‘strange episode’ which had left him distinctly disturbed, and turning it over and over in his mind to such a pitch that he had no desire to eat his lunch, till finally he decided to talk about the even to his son in law, Luciano Munari. Signor Munari decided to get somebody to accompany him next day to the scene of the alleged unwonted happening. And in the clearing he found an almost completely circular area about 3.5m in diameter, in which the grass looked black, not so much black with burning as from oil, and was distinctly flattened and rotated in anticlockwise fashion. When he ventured to touch the blackened grass his hands remained quite clean. He also found two U-shaped impressions some 20cms long and about 3cms wide and 3cms deep.

Location: Near Yurimaguas, Alta Amazonas Peru Date: middle of May 1983
Time: about 1300 Francisco Concha Layango, a local farmer, was alone at his tent in the middle of the jungle eating a snack when he suddenly noticed two “men” standing 5 meters away. The men wore “beige colored jeans”, laced boots, sleeveless & collarless shirts, all of the same color. One of the men was about 1.90 meters in height, blond hair, a dark beard, and thick eyelashes. The other one was somewhat shorter, about 1.80 meters in height. The second one had darker hair and was beardless. Both men had large slanted eyes, large noses, and mouths. The taller man approached the witness, while the other stayed behind. The tall man was holding an object resembling a flashlight that gave off an intense red light, with a long silvery antenna about 3 meters in length. He asked Francisco what he was doing there, to which he replied that he was not alone, that his sons were returning soon from town. At this same moment the tall man entered the tent inserted his hand inside the pocked of the witness’s pants that were hanging on the wall and took out Francisco’s “false teeth.” Thinking that the tall stranger was about ready to attack him, the witness took out a machete and attempted to strike the man, but was suddenly immobilized and was unable to move. Out of the corner of his eye, the witness saw the tall stranger enter the hut and inscribe some strange symbols on one of the support logs; the witness was unable to tell how the stranger performed this task. At this point the other shorter man now spoke and told his companion that somebody was approaching.
Francisco attempted to look but was still paralyzed. Seconds later he was suddenly able to move again, but as he turned around, the two strangers had mysteriously disappeared without making any noises. Soon after the strangers disappeared the witness’s horse, which had remained still during the encounter, suddenly began running around as if mad. Days after the encounter the witness had a dream that the tall stranger had returned his false teeth, indeed he did find the teeth in the same pants pocket where the stranger had originally taken them from. During June there were numerous UFO incidents in the area.

Time: 1400
Harbor patrolman, Harold Dahl, his teenage son Charles, his dog, and two other crew members were patrolling the East Bay area close to the shore. This day the sea was rather rough and there were numerous low hanging clouds. As Dahl looked up from the wheel on his boat he noticed six very large doughnut shaped aircraft. They were about 2000 feet from the water and almost directly overhead. At first glance he thought they were balloons as they seemed to be stationary. However upon further observance, five of these strange aircraft were circling very slowly around the sixth one which was stationary in the center of the formation. It appeared to Dahl that the center aircraft was in some kind of trouble as it was losing altitude fairly rapidly. The other aircraft stayed at a distance of about two hundred feet above the center one as if they were following the center one down. The center aircraft came to rest almost directly overhead at about five hundred feet above the water. All onboard the boat were watching these aircraft with a great deal of interest as they apparently had no motors, propellers or any visible sings of propulsion, and to the best of their hearing, they made no sound. In describing the objects Dahl estimated that they were at least 100ft in diameter. Each had a hole in the center, approximately 25ft in diameter. They were all a sort shell-like gold and silver color. Their surface seemed of metal and appeared to be burled because when the light shone on them through the clouds they were brilliant; not all one brilliance, but many brilliance’s something like a Buick dashboard. All of the aircraft seemed to have large portholes equally spaced around the outside of their doughnut exterior. These portholes were from five to six feet in diameter and were round. They also appeared to have dark, circular, continuous window on the inside and bottom of their doughnut shape as though it were an observation window. All onboard the boat were afraid that the center object would crash into the bay. This center object remained stationary at about 500 feet from the water while the other five objects kept circling over it. After about five or six minute’s one of the aircraft from the circling formation left its place in the formation and lowered itself down right next to the stationary aircraft. In fact it appeared to touch it and stayed stationary next to the center aircraft as if were giving some kind of assistance for about 3 or four minutes. It was then that they heard a dull thud, like an underground explosion or a thud similar to a man stamping his heel on damp ground. Immediately following the sound the center aircraft began spewing forth what seemed like thousands of newspapers from somewhere on the inside of its center. These “newspapers” which turned out to be a white type of very light metal, fluttered to earth, most of them alighting in the bay, and then it seemed to hail on the witnesses, in the bay and over the beach, black or darker type of metal which looked similar to lava rock. They assumed that this metal was also coming from the craft. However since these fragments were of a darker color, they did not observe them until they started hitting the beach and the bay. All of these latter fragments seemed hot, almost molten. When they hit the bay, steam rose from the water. They ran for shelter under a cliff on the beach and behind logs to protect themselves from the falling debris. In spite of their protection, Dahl’s son was injured on the arm and the dog was hit and killed. They buried the dog at sea on their return to Tacoma. After this rain of metal seemed over, all of these strange aircraft lifted slowly and drifted out to the westward, which was out to sea. They rose and disappeared at a tremendous height. The center aircraft which had spewed the debris did not seem to be hindered in its flight and still remained in the center of the formation as they all rose and disappeared out to sea. The men attempted to pick up several pieces of the metal or fragments but found them very hot, but after some of them had cooled they loaded a considerable number of the pieces aboard the boat. They also picked up some of the metal which had looked like falling newspapers. Curious events followed this encounter. The next day, early in the morning, Dahl was visited and interrogated by a stranger who was driving a black Buick car to his house. Dressed in a dark suit, was around 40 years old and Harold Dahl described him as “an insurance agent”. Dahl got out his own car and drove downtown—with the stranger following him. Over breakfast in a hotel, Dahl was asked some curious personal questions: Stranger “Are you happy at your job, and in your family?” Dahl: “What the blazes are you getting at?” Then the stranger proceeded to tell Dahl of the events that occurred on Maury Island the day before. “Mr. Dahl, said the stranger still smiling, “you have better forget what you have seen, and stop talking. Silence is the best thing for you and your family. You have seen what you ought not to have seen!” The stranger then abruptly got up and left the hotel.

Comments:Dahl was later questioned by two Air Force intelligence officers, Frank Brown and William Davidson; when they set off by air to return to their base, the plane crashed and they were killed. Two days later Kenneth Arnold, who had also investigated the affair, was flying home when his engine cut out and he was forced to crash-land. It has become common for writers to say that Dahl admitted that they story was a hoax, but an August 1947 teletype from the Seattle FBI Special Agent George Wilson to J. Edgar Hoover stated that: “Please be advised that Dahl did not admit to Brown that his story was a hoax but only stated that if questioned by authorities he was going to say it was a hoax because he did not want any further trouble over the matter.”
Mrs Margaret Fry was being driven by her doctor, Dr Thukarta to collect some medication for her son, when as they turned into Chessington Avenue the light was obscured by a dark shadow and the car engine began to misfire. They encountered a light grey elliptical mass about 8m long, some 6m above their heads. There was a row of portholes around the base of a dome, and on the underside were three objects resembling ball bearings. These retracted as the object began to spin and rose up, as a group of children arrived. It rose up 30m, stopped and an opening appeared in it. It then rose up again at speed, with a swishing sound, rocking backwards and forwards and moving away. A 15 year old youth also saw the object and a group of 60 people around it. He observed it giving off powerful flashes of light that hurt his eyes. Some months later he noticed unusual marks on his body. A policeman visited the site later and saw a group of children talking to a man with a clip board.

Scientists have discovered a vast reservoir of water under the Earth's mantle they say could be larger than all the ocean's combined.
Canadian researchers say analysis of a rare mineral points to the huge store of water deep in Earth's mantle, 400-600 kilometres (250-375 miles) beneath our feet.
It echoes the hundred and fifty year old novel, 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth', in which French science-fiction forerunner Jules Verne pictured a vast sea that lay deep under our planet's surface.
The evidence comes from a water-loving mineral called ringwoodite that came from the so-called transition zone sandwiched between the upper and lower layers of Earth's mantle
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
The new theory, backed up by seismic data suggest that water is stored in the transition zone of Earth’s mantle.
It is thought to host minerals called ringwoodite and wadsleyite that can store water like a sponge.
If water does exists in huge volumes beneath Earth's crust, it is bound to have a big impact on the mechanics of volcanoes and the movement of tectonic plates.
The evidence comes from a water-loving mineral called ringwoodite that came from the so-called transition zone sandwiched between the upper and lower layers of Earth's mantle, they said in the journal Nature.
Analysis shows that 1.5% of the rock comprises molecules of water.
The find backs once-contested theories that the transition zone, or at least significant parts of it, is water-rich, the investigators said.
'This sample really provides extremely strong confirmation that there are local wet spots deep in the Earth in this area,' said Graham Pearson of Canada's University of Alberta, who led the research.
'That particular zone in the Earth, the transition zone, might have as much water as all the world's oceans put together.'
Ringwoodite is named after Australian geologist Ted Ringwood, who theorised that a special mineral was bound to be created in the transition zone because of the ultra-high pressures and temperatures there.
A piece of this mineral has been a long-sought goal.

It would resolve a long-running debate about whether the poorly-understood transition zone is bone-dry or water-rich.
But, until now, ringwoodite has only ever been found in meteorites.
Geologists had simply been unable to delve deep enough to find any sample on Earth.
Good fortune, though, changed all this.
In 2008, amateur gem-hunters digging in shallow river gravel in the Juina area of Mato Grasso, Brazil, came across a tiny, grubby stone called a brown diamond.

WHAT IS RINGWOODITE?
Ringwoodite is a form of the mineral peridot, believed to exist in large quantities under high pressures in the transition zone.
Ringwoodite has been found in meteorites but, until now, no terrestrial sample has ever been unearthed because scientists haven’t been able to conduct fieldwork at extreme depths.
It is named after Australian geologist Ted Ringwood, who theorised that a special mineral was bound to be created in the transition zone because of the ultra-high pressures and temperatures there.
Measuring just three millimetres (0.12 inches) across and commercially worthless, the stone was acquired by the scientists when they were on a quest for other minerals.
But the accidental acquisition turned out to be a bonanza.
In its interior, they found a microscopic trace of ringwoodite -- the very first terrestrial evidence of the ultra-rare rock.
'It's so small, this inclusion, it's extremely difficult to find, never mind work on,' Pearson said in a press release, paying tribute to the diligent work of grad student John McNeill.
'It was a bit of a piece of luck, this discovery, as are many scientific discoveries.'
The team theorise that the brown diamond rocketed to the surface during a volcanic eruption, hitchhiking in a stream of kimberlite, the deepest of all volcanic rocks.
Years of analysis, using spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, were needed in specialised labs to confirm the find officially as ringwoodite.
Scientists have debated for decades about whether the transition zone has water, and if so, how much of the precious stuff there might be.
None, though, has embraced Verne's fancy of a subterranean sea with a rocky coastline dotted with forests of giant mushrooms and petrified trees.
The $20 diamond that led to the discovery: Diamond sample JUc29, from Juina, Brazil, containing the hydrous ringwoodite inclusion. The rough diamond has been naturally sculptured to its unusual shape by corrosive mantle fluids during transport to the surface.
Hans Keppler, a geologist at the University of Bayreuth in Germany, cautioned against extrapolating the size of the subterranean water find from a single sample of ringwoodite.
And he also said the water was likely to be locked up in specific rocks, in a molecular form called hydroxyl.
'In some ways it is an ocean in Earth's interior, as visualised by Jules Verne... although not in the form of liquid water,' Keppler said in a commentary also published by Nature.
The implications of the discovery are profound, Pearson suggested./
