Publisher's Note:I found this article in my Google Alerts. It concerns an object spotted and phototgraphed by many people across Gloucester, UK. The article by citizenmike appeared on the Gloucester Citizen website. It is interesting in that many people have photographs but still don't know what the object was: aliens, ufos and meteors have been ruled out. Enjoy Dirk
Aliens and meteors have strangely enough been ruled out as an explanation for the phenomenon seen in Gloucestershire’s skies on Sunday evening.
Tongues are wagging as to what the object was that was caught on camera by people all across Gloucestershire.
More readers have submitted their own snaps of the mysterious sight.
Andrew Hill, from Tuffley, spotted the phenomenon from Haresfield Beacon. He said: “It looks like falling debris with fire or flames at the front of the trails.
“In the image there are four trails. I hope we will get some reason for this phenomenon soon.”
Reader Paul Hooper also wrote in to say that he was in South Worcestershire when he saw what looked like a ‘UFO falling to earth’.
Astronomer John Fletcher, who runs the Mount Tuffley Observatory from his Tuffley home, ruled out anything falling from space such as a meteor or UFO.
He said: “This is likely to be a distortion of a vapour trail from a jet airliner as it enters the twilight zone in the atmosphere.
“If it was a meteor then it would have been much faster. I can rule out it being anything falling from space.”
As we journeyed through Peru we arrived at Ollantaytambo, Peru some 60 kilometers northwest of the city of Cusco. It is located at an altitude of 2,792 meters (9,160 feet) above sea level in the district of Ollantaytambo, province of Urubamba, Cusco region. At the time of the Spanish conquest of Peru it served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui, leader of the Inca resistance. Nowadays it is an important tourist attraction on account of its Inca buildings and as one of the most common starting points for the three-day, four-night hike known as the Inca Trail. Tourists from all over thw world gather to not only trek into Machu Picchu but also to take a vistadome train car to Aguas Calientes via PeruRail.
i will write an entire article about Ollantaytambo in the weeks ahead.
Here is my ticket from PeruRail.
A small town called Aguas Calientes or Machupicchu Town is the tourist jumping off point for Machu Picchu. According to Wikipedia: Aguas Calientes (Spanish for “hot water” or “hot springs”), sometimes referred to as Machupicchu Town, is a town in Peru on the Urubamba (Vilcanota) River. It is the closest access point to the historical site of Machu Picchu, which is 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) away or about a 1.5 hours walk. There are many hotels and restaurants for tourists, as well as natural hot baths, which give the town its name. The baths were destroyed by floods several years ago, but have been rebuilt.
Machupicchu is built almost entirely on the side of a mountain.
This street full of shops and restaurants rises from the valley floor and climbs high into the mountains evenually arriving at the famous hot springs the town is known for.
Local Incs's walk the very steep paths and live is small homes along the mountain side.
As mentioned previously Aguas Calientes is known for its hot springs. Many of our group including Carolyn and myself walked the several miles uphill to experience the delights of the mountain water.
See the river below. It runs the entire way from the top of this mountain to the town below.
Here I am struggling to climb continuously uphill to visit the hot springs my partner insisted that we visit.
After spending a day relaxing we took a bus up the side of this mountain to Machu Picchu. The bus hugged the mountain and the curves as buses passed buses, inches from drops that could literally shallow up tourist buses. As I mentioned in a previous article buses came to a stop to let others safely proceed.
These photos were taken at Machu Picchu.
Here I am taking a break, relaxing out of the sun next to a water fountain.
Walking along this trail one can see the terraces hugging the sides of the mountain descending to the valley below as well as the trail hugging the mountain and leading to other towns along this the famous Inca Road which stretches between 25,000 – 30,000 miles.
Most groups of visitors arrange to have a government regulated Tour Guide accompany them and explain the historical signifiance of the many sacred buildings and sites throughout. This was the case for our group at Machu Picchu. These tour guides are university trained and licensed by the Peru Tourism Bureau. From what I learned the remunertion was very good.
My partner Carolyn taking a photo break with the Inca ruins in the background.
This is a close-up of the famous Condor head which uses the sides of the walls to depict the Condor's wings.
This ends my series on Peru although other photos and videos could occur diuring the weeks and months ahead. Hope you enjoyed it. Dirk

On April 17, 1897, a mysterious airship is said to have crashed in the town of Aurora, Texas…exploding into many small fragments. Reportedly, the occupant was child-sized and greenish, and the craft contained papers covered with hieroglyphics. The pilot’s body is supposed to be buried in the local cemetery.
Legend has it that residents of Aurora, TX, had their own alien encounter more than 100 years ago. Just north of Fort Worth, Aurora has a population of 376. Something about it is different…mysterious, and some say, down-right weird.
“It’s just a legend,” said Barbara Brammer, Aurora Historian.
April 19, 1897 would change this town’s identity forever.
“They said, ‘Have you heard of the Martian that crashed his aircraft into a well site in Aurora?,’” Brammer said. “And I said, ‘No.” A former mayor, Brammer first heard the story of the UFO crash shortly after her arrival in the 1950s. “I kept the legend going whenever I was teaching or when we had new people in to the community,” she said.
Legend has it that in 1897 a number of reports came in from across the country of a cigar-shaped flying machine. An article in the “Dallas Morning News” reported that the craft came crashing down in Aurora. Today, the “crash site” is an old well, sealed with concrete. “About noon, the fire had gone out enough that they could get in there and see what really happened,” Brammer said.
According to a report filed by an Army officer from nearby Fort Worth, in the crash debris was the body of the pilot said to be badly disfigured and ‘not of this world.’ “They scraped up all the stuff that they could find, brought it down here to the cemetery and gave him a Christian burial,” Brammer said.
The grave site remains today under a tree in the old section of the cemetery. “They eventually came down and put a marker on it,” Brammer said. “The marker has been gone for several years.” It was stolen, Brammer believes, by souvenir hunters. The cemetery has been designated a “Texas Historical” site for, among other things, the legend of the UFO pilot.
No one has ever been able to prove the story or rule it out. In the 1970s, The Texas Mutual UFO network asked to dig up the grave but was denied. “The cemetery board said, ‘You’re not going to touch that,’” Brammer said. Board members denied the request, she said, because they were worried Spotted Fever, which wiped out much of Aurora around the time of the incident, would rear its ugly head again.
In 2008, another group of UFO hunters used ground-penetrating radar and did find a mysterious, unmarked grave. But the grave was so deteriorated, the radar simply could not identify what was there. So, the alien mystery continues, and the legend of Aurora is the only real thing that remains.
“It’s a good story,” Brammer said. “It’s got to be a good story. It’s been around 112 years.”
The old “Judge Proctor” place in Aurora, Texas, site of the crash, is still locatable, and the town square is still in its original position, but unfortunately most of the original buildings of the town, those dating to the 1890s, are long gone. Some evidence, however, does endure to the present day. The original article, reporting the Aurora,Texas Incident, as written in 1897, in the April 19th edition of the Dallas Morning News reads as follows:
By E. E. Haydon – “About 6 o’clock this morning, the early risers of Aurora, Texas were astonished at the sudden appearance of the airship which has been sailing around the country. It was traveling, due north, and much nearer the earth than before. Evidently some of the machinery was out of order, for it was making a speed of only ten or twelve miles an hour, and gradually settling toward the earth. It sailed over the public square and when it reached the north part of town, it collided with the tower of Judge Proctor’s windmill and went into pieces with a terrific explosion, scattering debris over several acres of ground, wrecking the windmill and water tank and destroying the judge’s flower garden. The pilot of the ship is supposed to have been the only one aboard, and while his remains were badly disfigured, enough of the original has been picked up to show that he was not an inhabitant of this world.
Mr. T. J. Weems, the U. S. Army Signal Services officer at this place and on astronomy, gives it as his opinion that the pilot was a native of the planet Mars. Papers found on his person. evidently the records of his travels. are written in some unknown hieroglyphics and cannot be deciphered. The ship was too badly wrecked to form any conclusion to its construction or its motive power. It was built of an unknown metal, resembling somewhat a mixture of aluminum and silver, and it must have weighed several tons. The town, today, is full of people who are viewing the wreckage and gathering specimens of strange metal from the debris. The pilot’s funeral will take place tomorrow”.
The Aurora crash was, in fact, the culminating event in a rash of “airship” sightings in East and Northeast Texas, Oklahoma, North and Central Louisiana in the period between 1895 and 1898. Robert Atkinson, of Center, Texas, a veteran of the Spanish American War, often told of seeing, as a teenager, strange, “flashing lights” in the sky, as did Polk Burns of the same city. Similar incidents were recountered by Bud Knight, a prominent resident of San Augustine, Texas, who died in 1981 at the age of 108. Lee Choron, who died in 1976 at the age of 94 recalled seeing “moving lights flashing in the sky” while living in Swift, Texas (near Nacogdoches) while in his “teens”. Nor, were civic records and town newspapers of the time completely silent on the matter. Reports, although not common, do exist. On April 22, 1897 in the small central Texas town of Rockland, John M. Barclay was intrigued when his dog barked furiously and a high-pitched noise was heard. He went out, saw a flying object circling about 20 feet above ground. He described it as having an elongated shape, with protrusions and blinding lights, it went dark when it landed, only a short distance from his home. Barclay was met by a man who informed him that his purpose was peaceful and requested some common hardware items to repair the craft. He paid with a ten-dollar bill and took off “like a bullet out of a gun.”
On that same day, April 22, 1897, some one hundred miles away, in the community of Josserand, Texas, Frank Nichols, who lived some five miles east of Josserand, and was one of its most respected citizens, was awakened by what he called a “machine noise”. Looking outside, he saw a heavy, lighted object land in his wheat field. He walked toward it, but was stopped by two men who asked permission to draw water from his well. He then had a discussion with half a dozen “short, dark men” men, apparently the crew of the strange machine. He was told how it worked but could not follow the explanation.
Three days later, on April 25, 1897, in Merkel, Texas. People returning from church served a heavy object being dragged along the ground by a rope or cable, attached to a “cigar shaped” lying craft. As the assembled crowd watched, the line managed to get caught in a railroad track. The craft was too high for its structure to be visible but protrusions and a light could be distinguished. After the craft hovered in place for about 10 minutes, a man came down along the rope cut the end free, and went back aboard the craft, which flew away toward the northeast. The man was described by all witnesses, as being small and dressed in a light blue uniform.
The next day, late in the evening of April 26, 1897, near the town of Aquila, in South Texas. A local lawyer, whose name was not reported by the press, was surprised to see a lighted object fly quietly overhead as he was riding from his office to his home, just outside the city limits. His horse was scared and nearly toppled his carriage. The object was large, and “oblong”, and sported a bright light that was observed to be sweeping the ground below the object. When the main light was turned off, a number of smaller lights became visible on the underside of the dark colored, metallic craft, which revealed an elongated, transparent canopy. It continued forward, toward a hill, some seven miles to the south of Aquila. When the witness passed the same way, approximately one hour later, he saw the object rising. It reached the altitude of the cloud ceiling and flew to the northeast at a fantastic speed with periodic flashes of light.

A 1986 movie, The Aurora Encounter produced by Charles B. Pierce, tells the tale. The official historical marker was installed by the State of Texas, and although nobody knows exactly where the grave is located, it is certain that the alien was, in fact, buried in the Aurora Cemetery, after the efforts of the local doctor failed to save it’s life following the crash. There is, unfortunately, no sign of the tombstone. It was stolen some years ago and never recovered. There are, however, picture records of its existence.
There is currently a renewed movement in town to exhume the body of the alien, replace the headstone and do a complete search for remains of the crash. Also, there have been several interesting pieces of metal found in the area that have been confiscated for analysis by the military and never returned.
News of the Aurora incident remained dormant for almost a century, until May 24, 1973, when newspapers around the country published the following United Press International account:
“Aurora, Tex. — (UPI) — A grave in a small north Texas cemetery contains the body of an 1897 astronaut who “was not an inhabitant of this world,” according to the International UFO Bureau. The group, which investigates unidentified flying objects, has already initiated legal proceedings to exhume the body and will go to court if necessary to open the grave, director Hayden Hewes said Wednesday.
“After checking the grave with metal detectors and gathering facts for three months, we are certain as we can be at this point [that] he was the pilot of a UFO which reportedly exploded atop a well on Judge J.S. Proctor’s place, April 19, 1897,” Hewes said. He was not an inhabitant of this world.”
NOTE: I’ve been told by investigators of this incident that they believe the government retrieved the body and the original tombstone in 1973…sometime during the period of legal wrangling between the owner of the cemetery and the Texas Mutual UFO Network MUFON…Lon
Senator Nelson must be reading UFO Digest. I have been writing about how US government is in a real pickle with Russia.
Nelson flew on the Space Shuttle so he should have understood the ramifications of retiring the shuttle with no other alternative means of human space travel. What were they thinking? The vulnerability of America is showing.
Nelson recognizes that Russia is our only way up to the trillion dollar ISS. Tickets are 70 million per astronaut. Russia might change its mine on how much it will cost for that ticket. Capitalism is all about making money and right now Russia has a monopoly on human space travel.
The United States is allocating needed assets to deter Russia from annexing Crimea by imposing economic sanctions against their leaders. This may be the time not to pay Russian millions of dollars to get our astronauts up into space but rather invest that money into our own private space programs.
Our Congress and Presidents have let the American people down. Senator Nelson is pointing this fact out too. Wouldn't it be better not to outsource our space program to Russia and to pay Americans instead?
On the bright side, the newspapers and NASA has reported its work as usual on the International Space Station (ISS). Some people think they should get the Nobel Peace Prize for showing how the two countries can achieve peace. It has to be a bit nerve racking up there when you see headlines like “Russia will make US into nuclear ash” threatens military.
America used to be at the forefront of space travel. Our national security has become vulnerable and Russia has proven that. America is working on the SpaceDragon X program, which should be running in 2017. NASA is working on a new space launch system but we need it today. Putin has shown America that it's vulnerable. We should never be at the mercy of a foreign power by being seduced by outsourcing.
We need to invest in America for goodness sake its American's money.

Space Shuttle was retired in 2011 and now Americans pay 100 million for each Astronaut ticket to ISS
Two days after Lady’s body was found a Denver pathologist named John Henry Altshuler, M.D. [4] examined the horse’s carcass. According to testimony he provided years later:
“When I got to the horse, I could see that it was cut from the neck down to the base of the chest in a vertical, clean incision. At the edge of the cut, there was a darkened color as if the flesh had been opened and cauterized with a surgical cauterizing blade. The outer edges of the cut skin were firm, almost as if they had been cauterized with a modern day laser. But there was no surgical laser technology like that in 1967. … I cut tissue samples from the hard, darker edge. Later, I viewed the tissue under a microscope. At the cell level, there was discoloration and destruction consistent with changes caused by burning. …Then inside the horse’s chest, I remember the lack of organs. Whoever did the cutting took the horse’s heart, lungs and thyroid. The mediastinum (central chest compartment for organs) was completely empty – and dry. How do you get the heart out without blood? It was an incredible dissection of organs without any evidence of blood.” [5]
Dr. Altshuler also discovered that hemoglobin located at the edge of the cutting site had somehow been cooked.
“The animal mutilation excisions do NOT show any carbon residue. But Earth life is carbon-based and all tissue exposed to the heat of a normal laser should show carbon residue that looks like black pepper grains under microscope magnification.” [5]
Portal incisions through which internal organs are removed are found to be uniformly smooth and bloodless with serrated edges similar to those produced by a tailor’s pinking shears, or from the impression made by a cookie cutter in dough.
Soft tissues removed from the cavity of mutilated carcasses include those associated with the digestive, reproductive, endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic and respiratory systems.
Bodies Found in Trees and Power Lines
In addition to the actual physical mutilations, other strange factors are consistently related to these incidents. For example, in some cases the ground beneath a carcass is markedly depressed suggesting that the animal was dropped from a considerable height. Consistent with this impression, the limbs, ribs, and other bones of the dead animals often show fractures consistent with trauma caused by sudden impact. In a few cases, trees in close proximity to the dead animal show evidence of broken boughs and branches again suggesting the carcass had been to the ground. A related observation is that occasionally, the carcasses of large wild animals like dear, elk and rams are inexplicably found in trees or entangled in high voltage power lines necessitating their removal by utility companies.
Then there is the factor of carcass avoidance. Contrary to official belief, Dr. George E. Onet [6], a doctor of veterinary microbiology and cattle mutilation investigator, claims that the carcass of mutilated cattle are consistently avoided by large scavengers such as coyotes, wolves, foxes, dogs, skunks, badgers, and bobcats. Furthermore, even domesticated animals are “visibly agitated” and “fearful” of a mutilated carcasses. This observation is frequently reported by cattle owners but is apparently disregarded by officials as being too anecdotal to warrant consideration.
Bias for Younger Victims?
Statistical analysis of mutilated animals has thus far been very limited. However, Dr. Howard Burgess [7] has reported from the study of a limited survey of mutilated reports that nearly 90 percent of cattle are between four and five years of age. Since their average longevity is between 15 and 25 years, it would appear that the perpetrators of these acts have a bias for younger bovines. Unfortunately, Dr. Burgess’ finding has not as yet been replicated.
The only consistent clue regarding the cause of these mutilations are reports of UFOs, strange nocturnal lights, and occasionally of dark, unmarked helicopters operating in the vicinity of where mutilated cattle are later found. Such sightings have fueled suspicion among ranchers that either UFOs or some secret government agency is responsible for the loss of their livestock. One must wonder why the military or covert government agency would so boldly experiment on domestic cattle when such activities could be carried out far more discretely at a private government facility. Interestingly, over the course of nearly half a century, law enforcement agencies have not been able to identify a single person responsible for carrying out these acts.
Circular Depressions Left Behind
While no tracks are evident at mutilation sites, other strange physical traces are occasionally observed. These traces consist of large discolored circular rings in the soil which defies any normal growth of vegetation for long periods of time. They are in fact quite similar to, if not identical, with physical traces left behind by known UFO landings. Occasionally smaller triangular depressions are also found. Their shape would suggest possible landing gear. Obviously, these clues should be carefully followed up by investigators.
Animal mutilations are not limited to the western states and Canadian provinces. They are found wherever cattle are herded throughout the world. It is now well established that these events are global in scope. Since the publication of Lady’s mutilation, thousands of similar cases have emerged from around the world. Recognized “hot spots” of activity include such divergent regions as Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, parts of Europe, the Canary Islands, China, Southeast Asia and Australia. Needless to say, many other mutilation sites have not been investigated or made public. While the number of reported cases is not easy to estimate, approximately 10,000 have been collected dating back to the mid-1960s.
One European country prominently involved in the private investigation of mutilation cases is the United Kingdom (U.K.). There a group known as the Animal Pathology Field Unit (APFU) which has been diligently investigating such cases since 2002. Their work and findings have been brought to the public’s attention though the lecturing efforts of Richard D. Hall [8]. The APFU is now prominently involved in a continuing investigation of sheep mutilations affecting many rural areas of the British countryside. But while sheep mutilations have dominated their concern, investigations have also been conducted on a wide range of other domestic and wild animals.
An Array of Animals Mutilated
The mutilation pattern found in sheep is very similar but not identical to those reported in cattle. Occasionally cats and dogs and other small domestic animals are found cut in half with their internal organs gutted out. The APFU has also found many wild creatures such as badgers, groundhogs, and even small deer are often decapitated with the heads dispersed a great distance from their torsos. Another unusual mutilation pattern has been noted in foxes and small deer. Their mutilations consists of a small hole is bored through the upper skull from which the animals brains are mysteriously removed.
Land animals are not the only creatures found mysteriously mutilated. In the northern U.K., large numbers of seals and dolphins have been discovered mutilated in a strange corkscrew pattern. Initially government officials attributed these findings to accidental deaths caused by contact with propeller blades of large ships. However, investigations by the APFU have failed to pinpoint any association with any known watercraft or other mechanical devices found at sea. Furthermore, the remains of these sea creatures are often found some distance inland far from where these animals would presumably wash ashore.
As in the U.S., British sheep herders have turned to law enforcement for assistance in determining the cause of mutilations in their flocks. So far the results have been mixed. By and large, law enforcement officials have been frustrated by their inability to either determine the source of these crimes or to capture those responsible for the mutilations. In turn, law enforcement has sought the assistance of veterinary pathologists for forensic clues. Thus far veterinary findings have been inconclusive. The unusual nature of these mutilations has led most veterinarians to refrain from drawing any conclusions over the precise cause of the mutilated animals’ deaths.
Even so, a small number of law enforcement officers and concerned veterinarians have ventured to offhandedly state that the mutilations must be extraterrestrial in origin. This view has not been well received by their respective organizations, the scientific community, and especially governmental authorities. Even the media has generally “pooh poohed” the notion that extraterrestrials are involved. Reluctance of authorities to carry out more comprehensive investigations of the phenomenon has only exacerbated the situation. To date nothing has been resolved. All the while cattle, horses, sheep and a host of other domesticated and wild animals continue being mutilated.
Noting more examples of these mutilations would add little to what has already been presented. But cases similar to those seen in the U.S. and U.K. are being reported throughout the world. The only significant correlation to these mutilations has been their association with unidentified nocturnal lights and dark, unmarked aerial vehicles. Quoted below is a typical example of such reports. This report is dated July 15, 1984, from the Sunday Times in Perth, Australia:
“Cover-up alleged over UFO-linked animal slaughter: Many reports of UFOs and strange lights in the sky. Farmers in the Adelaide Hills have discovered mutilated animal corpses and burn marks on the ground. … In one incident, researchers say a farmer discovered four cows with holes drilled into their skulls and the brains removed…” [9]
A Review of the Evidence
At this point it would be worthwhile reiterating a number of consistent facts relating to the mutilation phenomenon. They are:
1. For the past five decades horses, sheep, goats, and a variety of other domesticated animals, as well as a wide range of wildlife and even aquatic creatures have been found mutilated throughout the world.
2. These mutilations have been carried out in a premeditated fashion with great efficiency and precision.
3. One of the most common characteristics of these mutilations is the complete absence of blood in and around the dead carcasses.
4. A common mutilation pattern in cattle and sheep consists of: (1) a jaw swipe whereby all muscle and tissue are removed down to the bone usually on one side of the jaw, (2) the removal of one or both eyes and ears, (3) excision of the tongue deep at its root, (4) removal of internal and external genitalia, and (5) removal of digestive and other soft internal organs through small circular orifices cut through the flesh.
5. Circular or tear shaped orifices to the inner viscera show a laser-like cauterization on their borders leaving what resembles small “cookie cutter” like serrations.
6. Other reported mutilations include decapitation, bifurcation of the torso with all internal organs removed, small portals bored through the skull from which the brains have been removed, and in the case of seal and porpoises, deep corkscrew lacerations running along the entire length of their bodies.
The third and final installment of this article will be published tomorrow Sunday, March 23, 2014!
It was twilight on a warm Sunday evening in mid-June 1970 in East Aurora, NY. Patrick’s mom and sister were fussing with something in the garage, but eleven year old Patrick didn’t care about that. He was blissfully involved with shooting baskets in the driveway before bedtime.
He was dribbling back to his shooting position when he noticed an odd light coming toward him. His first impression was that it was just a low flying airplane or maybe a helicopter. He thought to himself, that’s no big deal.
1970 UFO – TWO BEINGS IN THE COCKPIT
He shot another basket retrieved his ball and while returning to position he glanced back at the bright object. That’s when he realized that this thing wasn’t making any sort of noise; this puzzled him. He kept watching the object as it slowly and silently flew over the tops of the neighborhood’s tall maple trees.
Adult Patrick recounts to us “that he sort of felt helpless.” He just stood there and stared at this thing as it silently glided over the tree tops toward him. When the object got to within a football field length from him he was able to make out that it was spherical in shape and had a yellowish color but not glowing. As the object hovered at tree top level a mere few houses away he was able to make out a “cockpit.”
“That’s when I saw them!” Patrick said. He clearly saw two occupants silhouetted by the cockpit light. He tells us “the being on the right was apparently standing up; arms spread apart apparently standing at a control panel.” Then he clearly remembers, “The other occupant was sitting down, as I could only see its shoulders and head.” He could make out that the beings had round looking heads and slim bodies.
He’d been observing this thing for what seemed like 10 minutes when finally the object passed overhead. That’s when he “stuttered a call” to his sister to come see. But before she could reach him, Patrick glanced back at the object, just in time to see it rapidly climbing high into the night sky.
He says his sister, “Didn’t see it, but due to my excitement, she knew he had just seen something.”
Patrick jumped on his sister nearby bicycle and quickly rode to the school parking lot in an effort to catch another look at this amazing thing. “I didn’t see anything but stars.”
As we all know the weather in New York the past few months has been horrid. As a result sighting reports are down significantly, so let’s look at some NY sightings from the early 1970’s:
9 August 1970: at about 1 p.m. a Rotterdam resident was in front his house with family and saw an object nearby that clearly wasn’t a conventional aircraft. Upon closer observation he says they saw a saucer shaped object hovering in the neighborhood; suddenly it flew away at tremendous speed.
10 July 1971: sometime in the evening a Bayside Queens resident and family witnessed a glowing flying disk hovering near the utility poles.
Summer 1972: at about 6 p.m. a Merrick resident was out riding a bike and witnessed a ball of fire light travelling at 90 degree angles.
September 1972: at about 9 p.m. eight Katonah residents witnessed a strange bright object hovering at tree top height in a nearby field. The report states that the object was changing colors then silently took off at great speed.
10 July 1973: at about midnight a number of Geneseo residents observed a cigar shaped UFO object was slowly moving just above tree line and was being followed along county roadway by two town police, a state trooper, and civilians in their vehicles for about seven miles.
August 1975: sometime in the evening a Sanborn family was motoring on State Route 31 when a bright object descended from the sky and hovered over the car, terrifying the passengers. The account was only recently reported by the family for fear of ridicule.
1 July 1975: at about 10 p.m. some Bethpage residents were having a summer night’s conversation when they noticed a strange object fly and hover close to or over Grumman Aerospace site. It was a disk shaped object with a rim of flashing lights around its border.

Gila Bend, AZ – 3/20/14 – unedited: On our way home from San Diego, California to Tucson, Arizona, my boyfriend and I were driving on Interstate 8. First I witnessed what I thought was a plane, then I realized the lights were much bigger and there was no aircraft, there were 3 round orb-like and orange lights in the shape of a triangle that were moving/flying rapidly upward then suddenly disappeared. At first I was very confused at what it was that I saw and why/how it disappeared, and if it was a plane how this was possible? I was totally perplexed and almost wanted to disacknowledge what just took place. What made me notice this was the size and triangular shape of the object and how quickly it was flying upward.
After 30 minutes later my boyfriend and I were having a conversation when I noticed in my peripheral vision one giant orange circular/orb like light to the right of my vision (South of Gila Bend – seemed to have been outside of Ajo, Arizona). This light was not moving in any direction it was staying still in one spot but it was almost the size of a penny, and was about 20-35 degrees above a mountain. We continued to watch it for 2 & 1/2 minutes until we watched it dissolve into nothing, dissolving from bottom first then top. It almost appeared to look like a mini sun, in the middle of the night, I compare it to this because of how bright it was and the intense aura of light it was emitting, the light was a very bright orange hue and it was sparkling almost like a fireball or star in the sky but much more intensely than anything I’ve ever seen. It appeared out of thin air, there was no trail or streak of light before it appeared, nor was there anything left behind when it disappeared. It just slowly faded away and was gone. While watching this I just had no idea what I was seeing, I knew it wasn’t a plane or a flare because it would have left a streak or trail, I felt in shock at this point and awe at how bright this object was. I almost felt afraid because I had no way to explain what my eyes were witnessing.
Then about ten minutes later after we had driven away from the place we had stopped to watch it, we noticed that 4 more of these orbs appeared in a line. At this point we were further away from them, but they were the same color and shape ( bright orange orbs floating in same spot radiating intense light) then a minute later a 5th one appeared, and for the next 2-5 minutes these orbs continued to appear and disappear across different positions in the sky. Out of nowhere once again, it was as if someone flicked a light switch when they just disappeared. However, when they were still in the sky it did look like they changed shape at one point into a diamond like shape, but then they returned back into orb/circular shapes flickering immensely almost like extremely bright stars/suns. At this point I felt extremely happy/excited that I had seen something out of this world and unexplainable I was just happy and calling everyone I knew sharing that I was witnessing some crazy lights radiating this intense orange light. Then as I drove away I felt afraid and in shock for the unknown. At this point today I would just like to know what I had seen. – MUFON CMS
Researcher Albert Rosales forwards another interesting report:
Provo, Utah: In the summer of 2009 (May-July), my boyfriend and I woke up early one morning, around 6AM I think, and went outside onto the porch of our trailer, to smoke a cigarette. The porch had a metal overhang that covered the entire porch, except the steps. We were sharing a cigarette, standing on the porch under the overhang, facing the steps (South). I walked down one or two steps and looked up at the sky.
I remember it was a nice, warm, clear morning. It was mainly a clear blue sky, and when I looked up I saw something flying, which was odd because it seemed like it just appeared, I didn’t notice anything in the distance before that. I was facing south, and at first I thought it was a plane because it looked pretty big to me. But then I realized it wasn’t a plane.
I heard no noise from it. I thought I could see a rounded, long beak/nose and a giant body. I would maybe compare it to a bat or a pterodactyl, I didn’t see any feathers. It was hard to tell because it was kind of shadowy, I guess, is what I would describe it as. Or blurry, like it was blending in with the sky or surroundings. But it wasn’t invisible, it was just hard to see details. It’s coloring was grayish brown, dark, maybe even black, which I think helped the shadowy, blurry camouflage thing it did. It’s wings looked like a bats wings and it was pretty big, not as big as a plane like I first thought. Maybe the size of a small plane, like one that sprays pesticide on crops, or a little smaller.
I was facing south, standing on the bottom steps of my porch, and it was flying over my neighborhood, above the treetops, heading north. I ran out, about 2-4 ft. away from the porch, so I could see over the overhang and trailer, and had a more clear view of the sky, facing north. The strangest thing about it was how it flew. It looked like it was swimming through the sky, kind of gliding. It undulated through the sky, and I think it was going pretty fast, although the way it seemed to just swim through the sky made it look like it was going slow, leisurely.
My boyfriend saw it about the same time I did, I can’t remember who actually saw it first, but we both ran out, away from the porch steps, to get a better view of the sky. Another strange thing happened once we were no longer on the porch, under the overhang. As soon as we got out in the open and were watching this thing swim through the air, we both got this feeling of fear. I don’t know if it was just because I saw this strange, unknown object/creature flying above my house, but as soon as I moved away from the porch I got extremely scared, like I knew it could see me now, and could feel it watching me. The feeling intensified, getting much worse, until I looked at my boyfriend for a second, and we both freaked out, ran up onto the porch, and inside the door.
The second we got inside, the feeling of fear lessened, and my boyfriend immediately ran back outside, and I followed him. He went off the porch so he could see over the trailer and I hid behind him, but we did not see it. Afterwards, he said he got the same feeling of fear, like it was watching us, and intensified until it made him run for cover, too. It had to of been moving pretty fast, because we should have been able to see it flying for awhile, the skies were clear and it was easily visible over the treetops, with a large area of sky visible in the direction it was going.
The last I saw of it, I was a few feet out from my porch steps facing north, looking up at the sky. It was already pretty far out past my porch and trailer, probably 5-6 trailers away, steadily swim/flying north, and it seemed to be staying at the same altitude, above the trees. It took about 5-10 seconds to run inside, then back out to where we last saw it, probably less time for my boyfriend because I was being cautious, staying back behind him, and he just ran back out to where we last saw it. The entire incident took maybe a minute. I saw it for maybe a total of 30 seconds, and it travelled from right past the porch overhang, above the steps, to nearly the other side of the neighborhood.
The entire time it still had that weird blurry, shadowy, blending thing going on, which could have had something to do with the way it flew. The way it moved, it did not look like anything flying, whether bird or plane, it looked like it was swimming through the air, like a snake or jellyfish would swim through water. I could almost put it off as a plane or bird that I had the wrong perspective of, or the sun shining made it look different, except for the way it flew. I’ve never seen anything seem to appear and literally swim through the sky like it’s water, cause intense fright, then disappear. It may have flown off in a different direction or landed somewhere instead of disappearing, and the fear may have been natural. But I don’t know what I actually saw, if it was some type of creature or aircraft? I think some creature, but what was the blending thing it did? I just don’t know. – MUFON CMS
The civil protection department has declared a level of uncertainty because of seismic activity in the volcano Hekla in South Iceland as announced by the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police and chief of police in Hvolsvöllur shortly after 11 am this morning.
The announcement states that the Icelandic Met Office informed the civil protection department about unusual seismic activity in Hekla. The Icelandic Met Office also raised the surveillance level of Hekla to yellow because of air traffic, which means that the volcano is showing unusual activity.
The level of uncertainty means that the course of events, which in latter stages could lead to the health and safety of people, the environment and inhabited areas being compromised, will be followed closely.
The level of uncertainty is declared to inform the parties who would help with evacuating areas near Hekla to be prepared and is part of the civil protection department’s planning. It is the lowest of three levels.
The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police and chief of police in Hvolsvöllur warn people against traveling to Hekla while the level of uncertainty is active.
Many tens of thousands of alien abductees the world over awaken in bed exhausted, to experience copious nosebleeds, yellow stains on their pillows, scars and scoop marks on their skin, subcutaneous implants and fearful, vivid recall of large eyed bug- like nonhuman entities, eyeball to eyeball, who are nighttime bedroom intruders and who pilot UFOs.
What could be worse?
Well, some lone, isolated people simply do not return after alien abductions.
If the alternate truth weren't so very scary, I'd say that there are no things worse than murder, than death, at the hands of these elusive, malicious reptilian-grey alien creatures.
What could be worse than death at their hands?
THE DEVIL'S WORK
What IS much worse then, is birth, again, at the hands of these creatures.
A very different endgame is unnaturally inherent after an alien abductee's death.
People, after physical death, go on to that other dimension that we all come from and go to, a dimension that we call, ” Heaven “.
As spirits, we see Earth as a 'school' where we briefly reside, repeatedly, in a succession of many lifetimes in a physical body, to learn ” lessons ” that refine and hone our spirits.
But, as if lifetime abductions by aliens weren't enough, imagine many series of lifetimes, husbanded by greys, which interfere with our soul's transit.
They collect and garner souls and transfer them into soulless bodies that they've created, bypassing the God – natural recycling, planning of HEAVEN, _EARTH, _HEAVEN, _EARTH for our soul's designed evolution.
There is no intermediary Heaven for such souls, no reunion of kindred spirits, no blueprint of lessons drawn up by the soul, itself and approved by the Council of Elders, all under God's aegis.
Imagine struggling to awaken spiritually again in another body, with imposed amnesia again, but this time after time, no Heaven between lifetimes.
Your only spirit unseen guides and helpers are reptilians and greys who orchestrate joys and create horrors for you so that you're always their productive property for their 'milking'.
And at our death, rather than return to our home, Heaven, we are again still their property, a means to an end, an inherent spiritual nightmare.
When greys say; “WE HAVE THE RIGHT”, in a response to abduction related complaints, it's because they've invested so very much time in us; that's exactly why they know so much about our previous lifetimes, when they are asked.
They are more interested in our spiritual essences than we are aware of our spiritual essences.
They can and do implant their own electromagnetic alien energies within humans, as 'puppeteers, merge their soul energy with ours.
'Where do you COME from?” asked by many abductees is blithely answered with, 'We come from within.”
Callously, they repeatedly and habitually implant alien-reptilian energies along abducted human spinal columns, referring to humans as mere “containers.”
An arrogant proprietary timbre, that we 'belong' to them, that we are someone else's very valuable property, prevails.
Just how is this demonic possessive-like alien magic accomplished?
In this case, I awaken to find myself placed, bolted and strapped into a large heavy padded metal chair in a round dimly lit room about 20 ft wide.
The small round room contains four such chairs in a circle with large van de Graaff Generator looking poles with round heads, about ten feet high and two feet thick, all standing tall between the chairs.
I can see across the room.
A huge hulking form of a man wearing a dark suit, sits opposite dead or me looking switched off. He hunches into another heavily padded metal chair and faces me.
Spectacular displays of what looks like white firework sparkler-like sparks fly straight up from these poles, high into the air.
These sparks are quickly circled, cycled into a growing faster larger circle of white sparks above both of our heads, anticlockwise into a growing circle of more solid dazzling lights.
Parts of our soul energies are merged.
Then the sparkling circle of rotating lights is siphoned off into another hulking machine just beyond my sight.
Our energies have been stolen; parts of our souls have been stored for creating another soul into an alien created body form.
And worse, implanted alien energies, immature reptilians, feast from our energies.
A ghost, after all, is an electromagnetic fog of memory and personality.
This alien agenda gives new meaning to the concept of “a silent invasion”.
When humans see UFO craft in the skies above our cities they dully forget to evaluate the true purposes of the pilots within but focus instead on the craft itself as though some devious alien mind control were at play.
They could squash us like bugs but prefer to be elusive such that we are in a proverbial hall of mirrors with a quicksand floor when it comes to any clearer understanding of their motives for incessant abductions.
What we do know is that we are mere sheep for shearing, to them; we are used by them in the same way that remora and lamprey use prey, parasitic denizens of the oceans.
It is the Devil's work.
Afterward:
Director of CIA, Admiral R.H. Hillenkoetter: “It is time for the truth to be brought out in open Congressional hearings. Behind the scenes, high-ranking Air Force officers are soberly concerned about UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense. To hide the facts, the Air Force has silenced its personnel.” p. 58, quoted from New York Times, February 28, 1960, p. L30
BIO:
Abductions and their remnant elusive memories have opened all this for Paul, a confirmed atheist, UNTIL Paul saw aliens float him out of his body, in his bed, at night.
Then, he knew that they were interested in an essence that he never suspected that he had, a nonphysical soul.
Our spiritual powers that interest and addict interdimensionals are the very powers that can be used to thwart further attacks.
They infect auras with attachments to themselves and ride the reincarnation roller coaster with human beings, as a sanctuary, to avoid the death that they fear and to steal the spiritual recycling that we have.
Souls are garnered, detoured from our natural spiritual evolution in Heaven.
These joyriding grays can be sinister, discorporate alien souls, stuck to our energies, which bring a new meaning to the concept of a silent invasion.
Le sens des termes, les exemples et les explications sont clairs, pourtant. On n'est pas obligé de redéfinir civilization et collapse, si?

Nasa-funded study: industrial civilisation headed for 'irreversible collapse'?
Natural and social scientists develop new model of how 'perfect storm' of crises could unravel global

A new study sponsored by Nasa's Goddard Space Flight Center has highlighted the prospect that global industrial civilisation could collapse in coming decades due to unsustainable resource exploitation and increasingly unequal wealth distribution.
Noting that warnings of 'collapse' are often seen to be fringe or controversial, the study attempts to make sense of compelling historical data showing that "the process of rise-and-collapse is actually a recurrent cycle found throughout history." Cases of severe civilisational disruption due to "precipitous collapse - often lasting centuries - have been quite common."
The research project is based on a new cross-disciplinary 'Human And Nature DYnamical' (HANDY) model, led by applied mathematician Safa Motesharrei of the US National Science Foundation-supported National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center, in association with a team of natural and social scientists. The study based on the HANDY model has been accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed Elsevier journal, Ecological Economics.
It finds that according to the historical record even advanced, complex civilisations are susceptible to collapse, raising questions about the sustainability of modern civilisation:
"The fall of the Roman Empire, and the equally (if not more) advanced Han, Mauryan, and Gupta Empires, as well as so many advanced Mesopotamian Empires, are all testimony to the fact that advanced, sophisticated, complex, and creative civilizations can be both fragile and impermanent."
By investigating the human-nature dynamics of these past cases of collapse, the project identifies the most salient interrelated factors which explain civilisational decline, and which may help determine the risk of collapse today: namely, Population, Climate, Water, Agriculture, and Energy.
These factors can lead to collapse when they converge to generate two crucial social features: "the stretching of resources due to the strain placed on the ecological carrying capacity"; and "the economic stratification of society into Elites [rich] and Masses (or "Commoners") [poor]" These social phenomena have played "a central role in the character or in the process of the collapse," in all such cases over "the last five thousand years."
Currently, high levels of economic stratification are linked directly to overconsumption of resources, with "Elites" based largely in industrialised countries responsible for both:
"... accumulated surplus is not evenly distributed throughout society, but rather has been controlled by an elite. The mass of the population, while producing the wealth, is only allocated a small portion of it by elites, usually at or just above subsistence levels."
The study challenges those who argue that technology will resolve these challenges by increasing efficiency:
"Technological change can raise the efficiency of resource use, but it also tends to raise both per capita resource consumption and the scale of resource extraction, so that, absent policy effects, the increases in consumption often compensate for the increased efficiency of resource use."
Productivity increases in agriculture and industry over the last two centuries has come from "increased (rather than decreased) resource throughput," despite dramatic efficiency gains over the same period.
Modelling a range of different scenarios, Motesharri and his colleagues conclude that under conditions "closely reflecting the reality of the world today... we find that collapse is difficult to avoid." In the first of these scenarios, civilisation:
".... appears to be on a sustainable path for quite a long time, but even using an optimal depletion rate and starting with a very small number of Elites, the Elites eventually consume too much, resulting in a famine among Commoners that eventually causes the collapse of society. It is important to note that this Type-L collapse is due to an inequality-induced famine that causes a loss of workers, rather than a collapse of Nature."
Another scenario focuses on the role of continued resource exploitation, finding that "with a larger depletion rate, the decline of the Commoners occurs faster, while the Elites are still thriving, but eventually the Commoners collapse completely, followed by the Elites."
In both scenarios, Elite wealth monopolies mean that they are buffered from the most "detrimental effects of the environmental collapse until much later than the Commoners", allowing them to "continue 'business as usual' despite the impending catastrophe." The same mechanism, they argue, could explain how "historical collapses were allowed to occur by elites who appear to be oblivious to the catastrophic trajectory (most clearly apparent in the Roman and Mayan cases)."
Applying this lesson to our contemporary predicament, the study warns that:
"While some members of society might raise the alarm that the system is moving towards an impending collapse and therefore advocate structural changes to society in order to avoid it, Elites and their supporters, who opposed making these changes, could point to the long sustainable trajectory 'so far' in support of doing nothing."
However, the scientists point out that the worst-case scenarios are by no means inevitable, and suggest that appropriate policy and structural changes could avoid collapse, if not pave the way toward a more stable civilisation.
The two key solutions are to reduce economic inequality so as to ensure fairer distribution of resources, and to dramatically reduce resource consumption by relying on less intensive renewable resources and reducing population growth:
"Collapse can be avoided and population can reach equilibrium if the per capita rate of depletion of nature is reduced to a sustainable level, and if resources are distributed in a reasonably equitable fashion."
The NASA-funded HANDY model offers a highly credible wake-up call to governments, corporations and business - and consumers - to recognise that 'business as usual' cannot be sustained, and that policy and structural changes are required immediately.
Although the study is largely theoretical, a number of other more empirically-focused studies - by KPMG and the UK Government Office of Science for instance - have warned that the convergence of food, water and energy crises could create a 'perfect storm' within about fifteen years. But these 'business as usual' forecasts could be very conservative.
A full trailer for the upcoming extraterrestrial-themed film Earth to Echo was released on Wednesday, March 19.
Earth to Echo poster. (Credit: Walt Disney Studios)
The plot of this movie might sound familiar. Movie news website /Film states, “Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: suburban kids who like to ride bikes find a cute little alien, then try to help the little guy get home even as adult Earth authorities close in on their discovery.” Based on the preview alone, there appears to be hints of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, The Goonies, and Super 8. And maybe even a little Batteries Not Included too, because the extraterrestrial appears to be some sort of intelligent robot.
The film’s full synopsis details:
After a construction project begins digging in their neighborhood, best friends Tuck, Munch and Alex inexplicably begin to receive strange, encoded messages on their cell phones. Convinced something bigger is going on, they go to their parents and the authorities. When everyone around them refuses to take the messages seriously, the three embark on a secret adventure to crack the code and follow it to its source. But taking matters into their own hands gets the trio in way over their heads when they discover a mysterious being from another world who desperately needs their help. The epic, suspenseful and exciting journey that follows will change all of their lives forever.
This movie is yet another addition to the found-footage genre. In the film, the kids decide to document their adventure, so the illusion is created that everything the viewer sees on screen was filmed by the kids.
Paul Dean, a UFO researcher in Australia, has been scouring the online digitized files of the National Archives of Australia for UFO reports, and he has found a few. His latest hit has been in the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. He has come across a file of scanned letters from 1972 to 1981 that contains UFO reports.
The file, titled Observations – general by outside authorities (including UFO) [Commonwealth Bureau of Meteorology], mostly contains reports of weather phenomenon, such as tornadoes or dust clouds. There are also astronomical reports, such as of meteorites. However, there are either UFO reports, or questions regarding UFOs. For instance there are a couple of requests by students on information about UFOs for papers they are writing. One frustrated fifth grader complains that it is hard to get information on UFOs because not many people believe in them.
As for the UFO reports, many come from UFO groups. One interesting response to UFO photos, sent to the Meteorology Bureau in February of 1981, said their negatives were sent to “Flight Lieutenant Rod Bencke of RAAF Pearce who has an authoritative interest in these manners.”
Dean made a list of files he thought were interesting:
1. Mr G Neads of Kelmscott, WA took a picture in New Zealand about 979. In the picture were bright circles of light. The Bureau passed the photograph to RAAFBase Pearce.
2. 14 Mar 979. The Bureau sent a letter to a G Hume of UFOResearch Group, Perth. It said that the photograph you forwarded “…does not appear to show any object which could be recognised as part of a balloon train…I am not able to offer any alternative meteorological explanation of the object in the photograph.” The associated letter from PUFORG dated 28 Feb 979 stated that the object was photographed at Ceduna, SA in Dec 1977. The photo is not on file.
3. 27 May 1978. Kings Rocks, Hyden, WA. 2050hrs. Dull orange object, low on the eastern horizon travelling north to south. Faster than an aircraft, slower than a meteor. No sound. Duration 1.5 to 2 minutes. Moved from north-east to south-south-west. Above clouds. Long orange tail. 3-4 weeks before, at dusk, a similar object was seen travelling in the opposite direction in the eastern sky.
4. 19& 20 May 1977. Letter from Unexplained Phenomena Investigation Bureau of Bunbury, WA. Re sightings between 0930 and 1200 hrs on both days. The observations were labelled as Venus. “Through binoculars it seemed to be spinning on an axis and two disk like shapes which seemed to be joined, merged into a ball at intervals.
5. 1 May 1977. Pingaring, WA. Letter reporting a light in the sky between 1930 and 2030hrs in the north-eastern sky for the last 6 weeks.
6. Letter dated 29 Mar 1977 from UPIB, Bunbury re three reports:
a. 26 Feb 1977. 2215hrs. Withers, WA. 5 mins. 15 degrees elevation. Stationary light in the sky for 15-30 seconds then moved across the sky.
b. 2 Feb 1977. 2100hrs-2130hrs. Bunbury. Fuzzy light in the sky moving around yellow/white colour.
c. 15-18 Feb 1977. 2000hrs. Perth, WA. Domed object with red and green lights.
7. Letter from UPIB with two reports:
a. 20 Feb 1977. Collie, WA. 1700hrs. A white ball with a white tail, burst through clouds in the sky and was lost to sight behind a hill.
b. 4 Mar 1977. 2300hrs. Brunswick Junction, WA. 10mins. Two witnesses saw an object in the north-western sky. It was bright ball with a blazing tail, brighter than the Moon. It appeared to speed up, slow down and later, at one point, almost faded away.
8. 16 Dec 1976. 1225WST. Kalgoorlie meteorological office. M Winterbourne saw a object travelling north-est to south-west. It passed south of overhead. It was white in colour, glowing, fuzzy at the edges and slightly pulsating. The shape was like a rugby ball, with an angular size of about half a degree. Sighting duration was 10-12 seconds. When at about 50 degree elevation in the south-west it seemed to stop for five seconds then dissolved in the same spot.
On the same day at 1330WST Winterbourne received a telephone call from Dave Bower at the Scotia Mine, near Kalgoorlie reporting a “Strange object in the sky which was hardly moving. He gave me the bearings, but I failed to locate it at that time.”
The same day at 1445WST Winterbourne saw the same object as at 1225hrs. This one flashed across the sky from east to west. It was lost to sight as it diminished in angular size apparently due to distance. Duration 12 seconds.
You can find these files here, or read more about Dean’s results at this blog.

Mystery SETI Signal Set Rules of Engagement
Mystery SETI Signal Set Rules of Engagement
Inthe Fall of 967, a small team of radio astronomers came face-to-face with a profound mystery that they didn’t want to be true.
At one point they half-seriously thought about destroying the data and staying stone silent. That’s because announcing it to the world could open a Pandora’s box for science, and derail at least one astronomer’s PhD thesis.
A small group of radio astronomers in the United Kingdom had stumbled upon clock-precision radio pulses coming from deep space. The signal was unlike anything ever seen before or even predicted in astronomy. In the absence of a natural explanation, the researchers pondered, for three long weeks, whether this was really a “hello” from an extraterrestrial civilization.
The team faced a cultural black hole with regard to the public response. How do you verify the signal? How do you announce it to the world? Do you send a reply to the stars, or is that too dangerous?
As is the case in our compulsive universe, nature was cleverer than imagined. This story of mistaken identity, as recently researched by Alan Penny of the University of St. Andrews, set the stage for preparing a SETI protocol for how to announce the discovery of the real deal sometime in the future.
Little Green Men
In July 967, a novel long-wavelength radio telescope, the largest of its time, began operations at the Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory in Lord’s Bridge, Cambridgeshire, U.K.
Antony Hewish built the array to study radio emissions from quasars, a very distant, energetic and utterly mysterious newly discovered class of object (today we know they are the black hole powered cores of active galaxies). Graduate student Jocelyn Bell took home a 98-foot long paper strip chart of the telescope’s observations (this was a time before microcomputers and wide use of digital data processing and storage by astronomers).
While marking up the chart in her attic, she noticed a peculiar source that was flickering like a police car strobe light. As any good scientist would do, she checked for instrument noise, malfunction or man made clutter. (In 1963 the all-sky glow of the cosmic microwave background was first suspected to be radio contamination from pigeon droppings in a radio communications antenna.)
Bell realized that the source moved with the Earth’s rotation. The source really is in the sky and somewhere out there in the galaxy!
The telescope’s builder, Hewish, was intrigued and installed a faster strip recorder. The ghostly source reappeared in On Nov. 28 and the astronomers recorded pulses that lasted a fraction of a second but recurred precisely every 1.3 seconds. The eye-opener was that the pulses were so short in duration that they had be coming from something smaller than a few thousand miles across. This might place the source on an Earth-sized planet rather than a star!
What’s more, the unusually narrow frequency of the signal mimicked the signature of man made radar transmissions.
In the absence of a physical explanation, the astronomers toyed with the possibility that the signal could be coming from an alien civilization.
The planet hypothesis was easily testable. If the source was orbiting a star, the signals should show a rhythmic frequency shift as the planet approached and then receded from us along a racetrack orbit. This is the high water mark in the team’s taking the E.T. hypothesis seriously. As far back as September, the phenomenon was nicknamed LGM for Little Green Men (just as spurious mechanical malfunctions are dismissed as “gremlins”).
What if a planet’s motion was detected? Should the British government be alerted to hold a press conference announcing something so momentous as an “hello” from space aliens? Or should the data be trashed in favor of protecting Earth from being tempted to talk to E.T.? What if a hostile, invading civilization was “fishing” across interstellar space for a response to their beacon?
By the end of December, the LGM hypothesis quickly evaporated after astronomers learned the source is not orbiting anything.
The final nail in the coffin came when a second, and then a third pulsating source was found in December. It is very improbable that civilizations at three different stars widely separated in space and time should be simultaneously targeting us at exactly the same radio frequencies.
Finally, in February 1968, Hewish published a paper in the journal Nature that described the phenomena as a signal from a neutron star — the crushed remnant of a massive star.
The details of the mechanism were not then known — only later astrophysicists described the signal as being a rotating beacon of radiation from the whirling neutron star, or pulsar.
In late 1968, a different team identified the pulsar as being in the center of the Crab Nebula, a supernova remnant (shown at top).
Dress Rehearsal
This story offer parallels to what might happen when astronomers someday stumble across real evidence for E.T.
The SETI folks have set up and published a protocol for how the receipt of an artificial signal would be confirmed and then openly announced to the world. But as with the pulsars, a strange phenomenon may appear when a new window on the universe opens up.
This could, perhaps, be some kind of future neutrino telescope, or a gravity wave detector. A non-SETI team of researchers could pick up a signal that cannot be explained by any known phenomena. It could take years to rule out any imaginable astrophysical processes.
Meanwhile, in the age of the Internet and social media, I think rumor and speculation would spread vastly faster than it could in 967. Such a detection could not remain as tightly under wraps as it did back then.
What’s more, if a government funded facility found the signal, it would invite conspiracy theories that the signal is either a fake (for obscure and nefarious political reasons) or, equally, that even more information about the aliens is being covered up — such as sending us blueprints for building a Death Star.
Despite the impact of such a cultural game-changer, I doubt anyone would be tempted to burn the data. There’s a Nobel Prize waiting for the lucky researcher!

A Brief Education on Crop Circles
A Brief Education on Crop Circles
Summary: ‘So it’s all done with planks and bits of string, is it?’ A crash course on crop circles for beginners.
Crop circles are not a modern phenomenon.
They are mentioned in academic texts of the late 17th Century, and almost 200 cases- some with eyewitness accounts- have been reported prior to 1970. Since then, some eighty eyewitnesses as far flung as British Columbia and Australia have reported crop circles forming in under twenty seconds; cases are often accompanied by sightings of incandescent or brightly-coloured balls of light, shafts of light or structured flyingcraft.
Serious attention was given to the simple circles in 1980 in southern England. The designs appeared primarily as simple circles, circles with rings, and variations on the Celtic cross up into the mid-1980s. Then they developed straight lines, creating pictograms, not unlike petroglyphs found at sacred sites thoughout the world. After 1990 the designs developed exponentially in complexity, and today it is not unusual to come across crop glyphs mimicking computer fractals and elements that relate to fourth dimensional processes in quantum physics. Their sizes have also increased, some occupying areas as large as 200,000 sq ft. To date there have been over 10,000 reported and documented crop circles throughout the world, with some 90% emerging from southern England. While many still go unreported each year, the emegence of the phenomenon in the world media and the internet has allowed more information to be lodged.
If you happen to buy the story that all crop circles were originated by two sexagenarians armed with planks of wood, garden rollers and string, you are not in the minority. Once in a while, governments like to control public interest in unexplained phenomena by generating a disinformation method called ‘debunking’, a technique invented during the Cold War for the sad purpose of controlling mass opinion (this was the prime motive of the 1953 Robertson Panel, details of which are obtained under the USFreedom ofInformation Act). The method is very effective, particularly when the media provides little or no scientific or factual data with which the public can form an educated opinion on the subject. This absence of evidence is then replaced by ridiculing the subject through association with other ‘fringe’ topics; so-called experts are brought-in to explain away all the events as freak weather conditions or as the work of general pranksters, even sexually excited animals!
According to TV documentaries, all crop circles up to 1992 were made by two simple, elderly men called Doug and Dave. It has since been discovered by researchers such as George Wingfield and Armen Victorian that the D&D story may have originated at the British Ministry of Defense- in collusion with theCIA,amongothers.Evidence supplied by a high-ranking informant in the British Ministry of Defence suggested that the government had every intent to discredit the phenomenon by putting forward two hoaxers in an effort to quell growing public interest in crop circles (the full story appears in my book, Secrets In The Fields). When confronted to provide evidence on certain claimed formations, Doug and Dave changed their story, even reversing previous claims; or they simply could not explain unusual features found in the genuine phenomenon. When they claimed making all the formations around the English county of Hampshire, for example, it was pointed out that half the known formations had actually occured in another county- “Er, no, we didn’t do those either,” they replied. In the end, not even Doug and Dave knew which ones they had made. And although they claim to have made hoaxes since 1978- at the time the published date of the first design- unpublished evidence confirmed crop circles dating back into the 1890s. The public has never heard these retractions, nor been given the opportunity to compare the mess created by D&D with the mathematical elegance of the real phenomenon.
In 1998, however, the surviving member of the deceptive duo did make an incredible admission to British newspapers that he’d been guided by an unknown force.
Since Doug and Dave’s inauguration, many copycat hoaxers have appeared on the scene. Some do it to disprove or derail researchers, some for profit, some because they are sociopaths, some because they genuinely believe they can communicate back to the phenomenon (with very interesting results, I may add). Prior to 1989 the hoaxing problem was virtually unheard of. After 1990 designs of man-made origin vary by year- in 1992 and 1998 it was as high as 90%, in 996 as low as 20%.
That people with a good amount of training can go into a field and eventually create a coherent pattern has never been the issue- recently, a group of known hoaxers called Team Satan/circlemakers was paid to go to conveniently out-of-the-way New Zealand to make an elaborate formation for The Discovery Channel. The deceptive tactics used to trick a viewing public into accepting the hoax theory are dealt with here.
The real issue is that no man-made crop circle has satisfactorily replicated the features associated with the real phenomenon, and this has baffled scientists and researchers. Crop circles are created by a force seemingly at odds with modern science. Central to the hoax argument is that a physical object is required to flatten the crop to the ground, resulting in the breaking of the plant stems. In genuine formations the stems are not broken but bent (left), normally about an inch off the ground and near the plant’s first node. The plants appear to be subjected to a short and intense burst of heat which softens the stems to drop just above the ground at 90.

Roswell UFO Was Not Of This Earth And There Were ET Cadavers: Ex-CIA Agent Says
Happy anniversary, Roswell, N.M. It was 66 years ago that the Roswell Daily Record blasted an infamous headline claiming local military officials had captured a flying saucer on a nearby ranch. And now, a former CIA agent says it really happened.
“It was not a damn weather balloon — it was what it was billed when people first reported it,” said Chase Brandon, a 35-year CIA veteran. “It was a craft that clearly did not come from this planet, it crashed and I don’t doubt for a second that the use of the word ‘remains’ and ‘cadavers’ was exactly what people were talking about.”
Brandon served as an undercover, covert operations officer in the agency’s Clandestine Service for 25 years, where he was assigned missions in international terrorism, counterinsurgency, global narcotics trafficking and weapons smuggling. He spent his final 10 years of CIA service on the director’s staff as the agency’s first official liaison to the entertainment and publication industries. It was during this time, in the mid-1990s, that he walked into a special section of CIA headquarters in Langley, Va., called the Historical Intelligence Collection.
“It was a vaulted area and not everybody could get in it,” Brandon told The Huffington Post. “One day, I was looking around in there and reading some of the titles that were mostly hand-scribbled summations of what was in the boxes. And there was one box that really caught my eye. It had one word on it: Roswell.
“I took the box down, lifted the lid up, rummaged around inside it, put the box back on the shelf and said, ‘My god, it really happened!’”
What exactly did the box contain that had such a powerful impact on Brandon?

“Some written material and some photographs, and that’s all I will ever say to anybody about the contents of that box,” he said. “But it absolutely, for me, was the single validating moment that everything I had believed, and knew that so many other people believed had happened, truly was what occurred,”
None of this comes as a surprise to Stanton T. Friedman, a nuclear-physicist-turned-UFOlogist, who was the original civilian investigator of the RoswellUFOincident.
In the late 1970s, Friedman began to uncover former militaryeyewitnesses who had been involved with the original events that took place at Roswell in 947.

Despite the fact that the military changed its story overnight, saying on July 8, 947 that a flying disk had been captured but claiming on July 9 that a weather balloon had been recovered, Friedman’s early investigative efforts prompted many Roswell witnesses to come forward and tell their stories. Numerous researchers have dug up more facts in the years since.
“It’s been 65 years since things took place at Roswell,” Friedman told HuffPost. “How much more widely known could it be — everywhere I’ve spoken in the world, they ask about Roswell.”
“What we really need now is the Woodward-Bernstein of the UFO world to bring out the disclosure,” said Friedman. “Maybe Chase Brandon is a foresight of something going on.
“It’s time for the retirement of the mythical part — where we don’t have all the pieces — to be replaced by the true story of what happened, all the details, and we certainly don’t have them.”
Brandon is currently promoting his book, “The Cryptos Conundrum,” a science fiction story about the history of Earth, contact with extraterrestrials and imagined cataclysmic events on our planet.
He remains steadfast about the pieces of the Roswell puzzle he’s willing to share, and he emphasizes there’s no internal CIA policy that prevents him from revealing any details of what he saw in that box at the agency headquarters.
“Nobody tells any of us that we can’t say anything about sources, methods, classified information having to do with working for the Central Intelligence Agency,” Brandon said. “We all sign a secrecy agreement that says we understand we are forbidden to do that by law, and that is an inherent part of keeping and safeguarding what we do, how we do it, why we do it, out of national security concerns.
“I’m not reluctant to talk about it — I won’t talk about it. I’m telling you there was a box that had stuff in there having to do with Roswell, and I looked through it, and it validated everything I believed in, and that’s all I have to say about it. I will go to my grave being mindful of the two hats that I wear: My personal one and the one that will forever reside on my head as a former CIA officer.”
