Solved: Highbury Fields UFO mystery that baffled the tabloids

NATIONAL newspapers were excited this week over claims that visitors from outer space had been spotted over Highbury Fields.

Even though the UFO images posted online were by an anonymous blogger – and none too conclusive – they were nevertheless plastered all over The Sun and Mirror, as well as internet sites such as the Huffington Post.

The Tribune, however, believes the mystery of the “flying saucer” has a down-to-earth explanation – it was probably a child’s balloon or possibly a remote-controlled helicopter hovering over Shoreditch.

After it was spotted by an unnamed photographer “floating” towards Highbury and Islington, a series of photos were posted to the Facebook page Mixtris UFO Images on Monday afternoon.

The images were claimed to be a collection of stills from a video the photographer vowed to put up on YouTube the following day, though no such footage had been uploaded at the time of going to press yesterday (Thurs).

Just a few weeks ago a similar-looking object hovering over Shoreditch was captured on camera by a Tribune reporter but it turned out to be a remote-controlled helicopter.

Other theories advanced include the suggestion that the Highbury UFO was a helium-balloon in the shape of a shark.

The picture of the Highbury UFO was captioned: “I captured this object a couple of streets away from where I live.

"The object appeared black in colour and was rotating as it moved along. I captured nearly five minutes of video before I lost sight of it floating in the direction of Highbury and Islington. I’m not sure what this object is. I thought it was a balloon, but there appears to be a light on it...

“I guesstimate the object to be half a mile away and possibly 500-1,000ft high.”

A spokesman for the Royal Astronomical Society said: “The pictures are best described as unconvincing. Looking at them I think they depict a child’s balloon, just possibly a remote-controlled helicopter or, less likely, a kite.

“A common difficulty is estimating the size and distance of objects but, even with the figures given, a balloon would easily reach that altitude.

"It looks the right shape to be consistent with that suggestion. Strictly speak­­ing, these are images of an ‘unidentified flying object’ in that we can’t be completely sure what it is, but there’s no reason whatsoever to believe this has an extra-terrestrial origin.”

Finding ET May Be Harder Than Thought

Hopes of finding evidence of life on far off alien worlds by studying their atmospheric chemistry have been dashed by a new study that concludes it's almost impossible.

The research, reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found atmospheric spectral readings from distant exoplanets will never be good enough to be useful in the search for life.

The findings support an underlying view among astronomers that it was always going to be difficult to take the spectrum of an Earth like exoplanet, according to the study's lead author Hanno Rein of the University of Toronto.

"I was a bit pessimistic when I calculated these numbers for the first time, they were not what I was expecting," said Rein. "We're not going to get any useful spectra at all."

Astronomers determine the chemical composition of a gas, by looking for specific signatures in light from a star shining through the atmosphere of a planet passing in front of it. The strongest indicators of life on another planet would be chemical signatures for molecules of methane and oxygen in that planet's atmosphere.

"We think these two molecules are likely to be produced by life on Earth and also on other planets," said Rein. "There are few geological mechanisms which produce molecules of methane and oxygen in large quantities. To be really sure, we want both molecules together at the same time, then we can be more certain that there's life on that planet."

Too far away

However, most of the exoplanets being found by astronomers are too far away to provide useful spectra.

"The spectral resolution is so low, that we can hardly say anything about them," said Rein. "It's a fundamental physical limit, even if we had perfect technology that measures every single photon we receive from an exoplanet, there's just not enough photons reaching us to say whether there's life on the planet or not."

The problem would be even worse if the exoplanet was orbited by a moon.

"From a long way away an exoplanet and moon system would appear so close together that they couldn't be separately resolved, and would look like a single atmosphere to us," said Rein. "If one had oxygen and the other had methane, it would suggest an oxygen-methane atmosphere, providing a false positive for signs of life when none exists."

Astronomers have successfully collected spectra from distant exoplanets, but these were hot Jupiters, gas giants very close to their host stars, nothing that looks similar to the Earth.

"Earth is much smaller than a gas giant, so the combination of finding an Earth-sized planet, in the habitable zone, and then taking its spectra, is just very hard," said Rein.

On the positive side, Rein believes looking for the right objects would allow good atmospheric spectra to be taken.

"Planets that NASA's Kepler spacecraft detects are hundreds and thousands of light years away, but if we search for planets closer to our solar system, we might be able to take spectra with a good enough resolution," said Rein.

Another option involves looking for planets around small red dwarf stars.

"These stars would be fainter and easier to take a spectrum because the light from such a star is not as bright," said Rein.

Are we ready for more UFO and other disclosure? Yes and no

It’s a question on the minds of many people and has been for several decades now: Can the American and international public deal with information about visitors from other planets and maybe other dimensions?

It probably depends on who you ask. It also may depend on how much and what kind of information we are talking about.

We don’t need to look very far to see that some people apparently prefer to be in total denial about visitors from elsewhere. For example, even when presented with solid evidence and strong indications that advanced spacecraft (not ours) are flying in our skies, many people choose not to face facts.

However, maybe that’s understandable.

There have been decades of efforts to label people as kooks and nuts if they are interested in UFOs, extraterrestrials and other kinds of unconventional topics.

Some people certainly can be mentally unsound in various ways. Yet, reasonable interest and normal curiosity about UFOs, visitors from elsewhere and other subjects are probably healthy and can indicate that a person is thinking logically and intelligently.

SAFETY AND INTELLIGENCE

Actually, it seems like common sense. In the case of UFOs, objects in the sky (sometimes at low altitudes) and on the ground have been clearly seen and reported by highly-reliable witnesses. These objects, some appearing to be advanced spacecraft, have appeared on radar.

It seems somewhat kooky to pretend that these things do not exist.

These kinds of apparent spacecraft have reportedly been on the radar of our defense communities both literally and in terms of possible or probable national security issues.

One of these national security issues may be how information about the situation might affect our people in the U.S. and around the world. So, it’s not just a national security matter, it’s a global security situation.

As such, it’s serious business. And serious security measures have allegedly been implemented over the years. “Need-to-know” protocols, “operational security (OPSEC)” and other concepts used in defense activities reportedly may have played important parts in keeping certain information secret.

At the same time, according to some claims, efforts were made to start getting the American and international public ready for more information about this situation.

But how much information should the public know? What kind of information should be released? And how should such information be presented? This is where we get into details that could be interesting and hopeful, or scary and worrisome. Or, maybe all of the above.

DISCOVERIES AND UNDERSTANDING

If some visitors are friendly and want to help us, great. And what if some are hostile or just don’t have our best interests at heart, but have their own agendas and priorities? What if some of these different kinds of visitors don’t get along among themselves?

Are there conflicts, battles, cold wars or hot wars and spy operations going on behind the scenes, or in our future? Are extraterrestrials or other unconventional beings among us?

Maybe some of these visitors are basically human like we are. And what if some of them are so different-looking and different-behaving that we have a hard time dealing with those elements of the situation?

Some related developments and discoveries could be so unconventional or far out that we might naturally have trouble wrapping our minds around them. These include wormholes and star gates, time travel, telepathy and ESP, other dimensions including what we call the afterlife or Heaven, angels and other kinds of beings that are not simply from another planet, forgotten ancient histories of the human race and Planet Earth, and other subjects that we can hardly imagine or understand.

How would we, or how will we deal with more solid information about these kinds of topics? Will we be fearful? Will we be disoriented and confused?

Or, will we handle increased information and understanding about these kinds of things fairly well and adjust to them in healthy ways?

As we consider all the many moving parts of the UFO situation, along with other discoveries, maybe we can see why certain information may have been held back from the general public.

And as more such information comes to light, we will probably need to continue to be aware of potential problems and dangers, while also trying to move forward and adjust to greater acceptance about the situation at hand.

What Has Bill Clinton So Stressed About UFOs?

Bill Clinton’s appearance earlier this month on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” – where he was asked about his interest in UFOs – has been subjected to body-language analysis by an investigator of paranormal claims, who says the former president exhibited signs of “significant apprehension, stress, and guarded behavior.”

Clinton’s inquiries, after he became president, into what information the government held on UFOs and space aliens, has been widely reported.

Following the first portion of Kimmel’s interview and prior to a commercial break, Kimmel announced he would be asking about UFOs upon return. While Clinton concluded he found no evidence they exist, he said, “if we were visited someday, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

That wasn’t enough for Ben Hansen, host of the TV show “Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files.” His program features interviews with people claiming they’ve had paranormal encounters in order to confirm or debunk their stories. Following Clinton’s appearance on Kimmel, Hansen said he was barraged by fans with questions.

 Hansen, who has a background in law enforcement and degrees in criminology and sociology, analyzed video of the interview, noting non-verbal cues of stress and evasiveness from Clinton’s posture, eye contact and use of his hands. While Hansen acknowledged he is not an expert in non-verbal communications, he uses the skills regularly in his work.

Clinton — who had been using both hands as he talked, sitting with both feet on the floor — immediately adopted what Hansen described as a defensive stance, indicative of intention to conceal, when first asked about UFOs. Clinton began gripping firmly both arms of his chair and crossed his legs. For most of the remainder of their conversation about UFOs, Clinton’s right hand stayed firmly anchored to the arm of the chair.

Are we alone? And, if not, what’s REALLY behind UFO encounters?

 Asked if he had investigated UFOs as president, Clinton said he had “sort of” during his second term, but then appeared to backtrack on the chronology, changing the topic to Area 51, the federal government’s super-secret site in the Nevada desert. Clinton claimed Americans thought aliens were kept at Area 51 because workers there were required to wear special uniforms. But Hansen noted a leading Area 51 expert he consulted said Clinton’s claim was novel and had never been made before.

Hansen identified incongruence between what Clinton was saying and his body language when asked about the Roswell incident, where a “flying saucer” allegedly crashed on a New Mexico ranch in July 1947. While telling Kimmel he had “everything” checked, Clinton was shaking his head no. Further, Hansen pointed to a 1995 General Accounting Office report that stated all administrative and communication files between 1946 and 1949 from Roswell Army Air Field had been destroyed.

At times, Clinton clinched his jaw, looked away from Kimmel and closed his eyes, all signs, said Hansen, that Clinton was experiencing stress or attempting to conceal his feelings. Other times, when UFOs were discussed, Clinton would stammer and change topic mid-sentence, something that disappeared when the topic changed.

Since Kimmel had announced Clinton’s appearance on the show and his intention to ask about UFOs two days prior, Hansen reasoned Clinton should have been prepared and not caught off-guard by the subject.

Clinton concluded by noting the vast size of the universe and recent discoveries of planets outside the solar system that might be suitable for life, saying it is “increasingly less likely that we are alone.”

Kimmel jokingly jumped on the line, and again, noted Hansen, Clinton’s answer showed stress and confusion.

“Oh, you are trying to give me a hint that there are aliens,” Kimmel said. 

“No,” replied Clinton, all the while nodding his head yes.

Hansen said while analysis of Clinton’s body language showed definite signs of evasiveness and intention to conceal and even deceive, it is impossible to say what the reason for it is.

Russians had contact with aliens in 1942?

There have been rumors floating around for many years that the first Russian contact with “grey aliens” allegedly took place in 1942. At the time, a series of diplomatic visits to discuss matters of mutual concern were planned, according to alleged Russian documents and a treaty was made, Voice of Russia writes.

In 1969 in the state of Sverdlovsky, a UFO was reported to had crashed and was recovered by the Russian military. There is an alleged video footage showing the recovery, with close-ups of the UFO itself. Allegedly, there was one dead alien found in the craft. The remains of the alien and the UFO debris were taken to a secure Russian site, where the saucer was analyzed, and an autopsy done on the alien.

According to Russian newspaper “Pravda”, the KGB has allegedly had a special unit designed to gather and monitor all pieces of information regarding mystical and unexplained phenomena reported inside and outside the Soviet Union.

Also according to Pravda, General A. G. Ponomarnko, head commander of the Urals military district, was to ensure that KGB agents be involved in the work pertaining to the UFO at all stages. The agents’ reports were promptly forwarded to Colonel A. I. Grigoriev, chief of the KGB scientific department.

According Billy J Booth on About.com there are unsubstantiated reports that a UFO crashed or was shot down near the city of Prohlandnyi, in the USSR at on August 10, 1989. Soviet military radar tracked an unidentified flying object and the Russian attempted unsuccessfully to contact the craft. The UFO was classified as “hostile.” Soviet defenses were alerted, and MIG-25s flew to find and identify the UFO.

There was obvious damage to the exterior of the craft. The retrieval team, wearing protective outer wear, moved to the site. There was a small amount of radiation, and some members of the team were effected.

A helicopter on the scene was hooked up to the craft, and the UFO was transported to Mozdok Air Base. Russians entered the UFO and discovered three alien bodies-two dead, one barely alive.

A team of doctors and other medical personnel made every effort to keep the alien alive, but failed. All three of the beings were about 3 1/2 to 4 feet tall, with gray outer wear. Underneath, their skin was a blue-green color with a reptilian texture. They had no hair, large black eyes covered with a protective lid, and web fingers ended their long, slender arms. The alien bodies were kept in glass containers and UFO taken to Kapustin Yar.

This information was first reported by three Russian investigators-Anton Anfalov, Lenura Azizova and Alexander Mosolov. However, they had no documentation to support their story.

UFO video in Ibiza baffles local astronomers

A remarkable video of a large white object falling out of the sky over the Spanish island of Ibiza has many authorities believing it to be space junk. However, local astronomers tracked the object and say its movement could only be explained if it were self-propelled.

The object was caught on camera on April 16, 2014 at approximately 7:30 pm. That is when Eduardo de Miguel spotted something unusual in the sky. He grabbed his camera and was able to record the object for 3 minutes before losing sight of the object.

The video was examined by the Astronomic Association of Eivissa who quickly ruled out a meteorite. They suspected that the UFO was a man-made object.

Local newspaper Diario de Ibiza then presented the video to the Ministry of Defense. The Spanish Air Force examined the video and agreed with the Astronomic Association of Eivissa that the object was most likely space junk. They ruled out the possibility of the object being anything military related.

The Air Force explained that it was likely a piece of a rocket or spacecraft that was in orbit for sometime before falling back to the earth. They point out that the object appears to be on fire and leaving a smoke trail, which is what happens as space junk renters the atmosphere and is heated by the friction in the air.

While this explanation seems likely, Ibiza astronomers said they tracked the object, and their findings show that the UFO was not merely space junk. The object was tracked by the Cala d’Hort Telescope, and according to Ignacio de la Cueva, who is also a member of the Astronomic Association of Eivissa, the object changed direction mid-flight. He says the change in direction they observed could only be explained if the object was self-propelled. He says the video itself show the object moving in a direction that is not the same as the direction it was headed when it was initially tracked.

Diario de Ibiza says that astronomers are seeking data from other observatories that may have tracked the object so they can triangulate the position of the object, and hopefully find out more about its size and where it might have come down. But as Diario de Ibiza points out, until more information is discovered, this object remains an Unidentified Flying Object.

Alien Abduction Attempt Described In MoD Files

A figure with a lemon-shaped head told two boys to follow it in an apparent close encounter with aliens in Staffordshire, government files say.

The figure told the boys: “We want you, come with us,” according to a report from 1995 which has been released by the Ministry of Defence.

The boys told police they had seen the figure in a field just before midnight on 4 May in Chasetown.

However the farmer who owned the field later told police he had seen nothing.

The boys had run to the police station and asked the officers to come outside and look across the distance at a glowing red saucer-shaped object.

The officers thought it was an aircraft.

Their report said they boys appeared “agitated and distressed” after gazing at the alleged UFO.

They said it had emitted an intense heat before zig-zagging off east to west.

“They stated the object was about four houses high in the sky and about 40ft away from them,” said the report.

“They then, reluctantly, went on to say that a voice which came from a lemon-like head, which appeared beneath the machine, said ‘we want you, come with us’.

“Both appeared upset and shocked and as such it was increasingly difficult to obtain detailed information from them.”

The police sent the boys home and told them to write up their account.

One said he was drawn to the field off Rugeley Road, Burntwood, by an intense heat.

He said when they walked into the field there had been a flash of light and a spaceship allegedly appeared, which had sent his friend’s face “the colour of beetroot”.

His friend said after hearing the command to go with the lemon-headed figure, he “just said ‘run’”.

He added: “I could hardly breathe and we turned around, it just shot off in the air and the sky didn’t light up.

“It just went. Vanished.”

He said the boys did not want to tell anyone because they thought they would not be believed.

The report said police visited the site two days later and found a farmer spraying his crops.

He said he had seen nothing unusual.

Alien Abduction / Mutilation – Sacramento Valley, CA

In July, 1976 a friend and I, who is now a dentist and a no nonsense kind of guy, were cruising between Lincoln and Auburn, CA on a quiet country road. We drove over the top of a hilly road and we were descending I noticed a bright bluish-white light shining down on the road about 200 yards in front of us. It was coming from a point over a large group of scrub oak trees. The trees came to a point over the road creating a canapé effect over the road. What was strange is there were no street lights and none of the light shining down on the road was being blocked out by the trees.

As we approached the light my car began to sputter and lost power, then the headlights went out. As we were approaching the light I was flashing my bright lights on and off before the car shut down. As soon as the car rolled to a stop, I opened the door to step out… the light disappeared while leaves were floating down below where the light had been falling onto the road in front of us. During July in the Sacramento valley it is still about 80 degrees with no wind. It gets very hot here in the summer.

The thing that really shocked me was 4 days later we took 2 of our cats to the vets, which was about 3 miles out of town. When the vet drove up he was acting confused and was stuttering, which he did when he got excited. He had been called out to a ranch to look at a dead cow. He explained to me and my mom that the cow had been cut up in a very strange way with a missing eye ball, utter and entrails. It’s hind quarters had been drilled or board out. He also said therewere no flies, no bugs and no predator bite marks anywhere on the cow. The cow was located 50 yards from the very spot we saw the lights over the trees. My doctor friend said his mother was upset with him for getting home so late the night we saw the lights. However we were only out there in the country for an hour and a half. He claims it was 4am when we got home.

After dropping him off that night, I was really tired and just went home to bed and didn’t pay any attention to the time. He claims we lost 3 hours. To this day I have no idea what we saw or what happened. He refuses to talk about it with me or to anyone else. I have seen other lights and strange things over the years but this situation has always made me scratch my head and I wonder what really happened that night to us and that poor cow. Nothing was ever said to the police or to the news media regarding the mutilated cow or the lights we saw.

After years of hearing about abductions and cow mutilations, I believe we may have been part of something that cannot be explained with science or rational thought. My interest in UFO’s has been very strong for years and I am sure there are other things going on around us that we cannot explain or can we make sense of them because we are not allowed to by those conducting such intrusive examinations of humans and animals.

Well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it because I can remember it like it happened yesterday. We were not drinking, smoking or doing any drugs as my doctor friend was always against such activities due to his medical training and personal beliefs. On the other hand, I know something happened beyond the norm and will take it to my grave as a real and unexplained experience.

“I am a 58 yr. old professional woman of color who has had visitations since I was a child. I know what happened to me and only want to discuss my events for research purposes. The first case listed happened at night around 1986/7. It is still a vivid memory of waking up on an examination table with several aliens of different heights around me under a bright light. At first I didn’t feel afraid even know I knew I was not at home and believed I was on a spaceship. I thought I had been there several times before. They spoke to each other and myself through thought. The next thing I remember, I was still on/near the table but I felt very sad and was crying. I don’t know why. When I woke up in the morning and went to work, I felt uneasy and nervous which, is not my nature. I was casually discussing the incident with a co-worker to further calm myself down when another employee who had come in started listening to what I was saying. Suddenly, she became very excited and said that she was there also and saw me on the exam table. It freaked us all out and we stopped talking about it. I was a deputy-director at this agency and I remember the name of the co-worker who also saw me.”

“Later Incident: Somehow, I believe this incident is connected to the first one described. I lived in Queens, NY and had several visitation memories from that location as an adult. The one I will discuss happened around 1993. I woke up in the morning and there was a stillness in the room that had me feel uneasy. I had two dogs at the time and neither one was in the room with me which was strange. I stepped off the bed and everything that had happened to me the night before came back in a rush and extremely detailed. I woke up to see very alien-like people entering my bedroom. I was not afraid at first because the first person who entered the room was my general Dr. I saw on regular basis. The second he appeared to come in, he stepped to the side and there were several aliens who also entered. I immediately became scared and the next thing I remember was being pushed up against the wall in my room and one of them was trying to exam/look for something through my private area. My Dr. seemed to be gone as I was calling out for him but the other aliens were on my left side and talking calmly and telepathically to each other. They were 4 or 5 of them in the room and by their voices, some were female. They all seemed to be some type of Dr/medical staff and wore white type clothes. The ones off to the side were about 6ft, very slender and almost angelic looking with minor interest in me. The one examining me was short, very rough, wearing a hood, about 4’5″. I kept trying to see his face but he was trying to hide himself from me though he appeared the most non-human looking. There is more graphic detail to this but for the sake of space, in the end the alien found what he was looking for and removed it. I blacked out and then woke up as stated earlier. Thank you”

Trucker Missing Time in Nevada

Event date: 7/16/1978: I was headed westbound on hwy 80 as I’ve done many times before, taking a load to San Francisco. It was about 0200-0230 as I was approaching the tunnel, located about halfway through Nevada, when I started to feel really strange. I remember entering the tunnel and then…nothing. The next thing I knew I was in McCarran 76 truck stop, coming up off the steering wheel, feeling completely disoriented, and wondering what had just happened. What astounded me even more is that when I looked at my “el-cheapo” truck stop Timex I noticed it had stopped…it’s battery was new and was working before! I somehow had arrived at the truck stop approx. 4 hours earlier than expected, and by all means the truck I was driving could only run a max speed of 68 mph. This happened about July of 1978. This was my first experience. Since then I have had several encounters with “outworlders” or their spacecraft.

Can alien life develop around hotter stars?

Scientists searching for life as we know it on alien worlds typically focus on planets around stars like our own G-type sun. And some scientists believe that life can also develop on planets orbiting smaller, cooler stars. But a recent study suggests that alien life could flourish on worlds around hotter stars too.

A paper published in the International Journal of Astrobiology asserts that scientists should not limit their exploration for life to stars similar to our sun. University of Texas at Arlington physics professor Manfred Cuntz, the paper’s co-author, explained to Astrobiology Magazine,

It has been argued that the most likely host candidates for exobiology should be K-type or even M-type stars based on their relatively long life spans and high frequency compared to the other types of main sequence stars . . . But the only case known for life to exist is the environment of our sun, identified as a relatively hot and massive G-type star . . . Therefore, it appears to be fully appropriate to explore the possibility of exobiology for stars even hotter and more massive than the Sun.

F-type main sequence stars have approximately ten to sixty percent more mass than our sun, and have a surface temperature ranging from 10,500 to 12,500 degrees Fahrenheit (in comparison to our sun’s surface temperature of approximately 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit).

Although the scientists involved with this study surmise that F-type stars are likely at the upper range of where life can survive, they believe that these solar systems once considered inhospitable could be prime candidates for habitability. As the Daily Mail reports, “The study suggests beings on a planet in orbit around an F-type star would receive up to 7.1 more radiation damage than we receive on Earth. But an atmosphere or ocean could provide sufficient protection to allow the alien life to survive.” Yes, too much radiation is bad. But Cuntz explains, “Broadly speaking, UV should be considered both a friend and a foe to the principal possibility of life. At the present stage of Earth in regard to many of its life forms, the lack of an ozone layer would be truly harmful to most types of surface life. On the other hand, in regard to life’s origin and early stages of evolution, a notable UV intensity could be important for facilitating the onset of life by triggering relevant early-stage biochemical reactions.”

Another promising aspect of F-type stars, as the Daily Mail points, is that their solar systems could have larger habitable zones, providing more planets that might have liquid surface water.

Sonar scan picks up ‘image’ of Loch Ness monster

A startling sonar image from the depths of Loch Ness is set to spark further speculation that Nessie may be about to make a long-awaited reappearance.

Captured on underwater scanning equipment aboard a luxury cruise vessel, the reading appears to show a large object in the deep waters below.

The screenshot is set to cause fresh excitement among frustrated Nessie hunters, following a lack of sightings in over a year.

The image was recorded by sonar equipment aboard the Jacobite Queen which is owned by Inverness-based Jacobite Cruises.

Skipper, John Askew, said: “This image certainly grabbed our attention.

“The Jacobite Queen spends every day sailing up and down the loch with the sonar on and this reading is the most unusual we have seen for quite some time.

“It’s impossible to tell what we’ve picked up here, but along with those satellite images, you can’t help feeling that reports of the Loch Ness Monster’s demise may be premature.

“Nessie captures the imagination of people all over the world and, if anything, the speculation around lack of recent sightings has increased that interest.”

‘Monster fish’ thought to be extinct washes ashore

A 7-foot Atlantic Sturgeon washed up in Lyme … why it died is still a mystery, but the biggest question is why it was 8 miles up the river from the mouth of the Long Island Sound.

Atlantic Sturgeon native to Connecticut were believed to be wiped out due to over-fishing.

Even though the D.E.E.P ( Connecticut’s Department of Energy & Environmental Protection) said it was a female, at least 12 years old, carrying eggs, the sturgeon was still too young to actually lay its eggs.

If baby Atlantic Sturgeon are actually discovered in the river, that would be the sign marine scientists need to prove that that type of fish is making a comeback.

“That would be like the holy grail, finding evidence of that again,” Tom Savoy, a D.E.E.P. Fisheries Biologist, said.

The D.E.E.P. believes tissue samples will help prove if the Atlantic Sturgeon found in Lyme is unique to the Connecticut River, or if it’s just part of another population from a river outside the state. – AOL

‘Munsters’ star Butch Patrick plans to save a haunted mansion

MACON, Mo., April 17 (UPI) — The Munsters star Butch Patrick plans to save an old Victorian mansion he says is haunted.

The 60-year-old actor portrayed Eddie Munster on the spooky 1960s show, and says he is no stranger to the supernatural. He plans to save his late aunt’s home in Macon, Mo., and has reportedly discovered the house is haunted.

“Every 20 years or so I would drive by the house to visit and last time I went by, I found it was in foreclosure and it was close to being wrecked,” Patrick tells FOX News. “I’m working with the banks to try and save it and lo and behold, it turns out it’s haunted.”

The star says his grandmother and sister have both experienced paranormal activity in the house, but he himself never noticed anything unusual… until now.

“I had some experts come in and they found, like, 13 entities in the house,” Patrick reports.

The actor has an avid interest in the supernatural, and has visited several haunted locations in the U.S., including the Roosevelt Hotel and the Whaley House. He says he has “felt some interesting things going on” — including “something [passing] through” his body — but has “never actually physically seen something.”

Experts Think The Missing Malaysia Jet Recordings Were Edited

Voice experts believe the audio recordings from missing Malaysia jet 370 were edited, according to Elizabeth Chuck of NBC News.

At least two different audio sources recorded the tapes, the experts concluded, and one of those recordings may have been a digital recorder held up to a speaker.

The recordings were published for the first time on Thursday, and analysts who listened to the recordings told NBC that they noticed at least four clear breaks in the audio that indicated edits.

“It’s very strange,” audio-video forensic expert Ed Primeau of Primeau Forensics told NBC. “At approximately 1:14 … it sounds like someone is holding a digital recorder up to a speaker, so it’s a microphone-to-speaker transfer of that information. That’s a pretty big deal because it raises the first red flag about there possibly being some editing.”

Primeau and forensic audio examiner Kent Gibson detailed several other irregularities.

Gibson said that the tapes indicated that “Malaysian authorities or whoever presented this made edits for whatever reason.” He added that “it’s not the way to handle evidence,” but it also doesn’t necessarily imply anything about the investigation.

“Unfortunately, there are no smoking guns, except there are edits. And there are clear edits,” Gibson told NBC.

At 1:30 a.m. on March 8, the plane carrying 239 people dropped off air-traffic-control screens, less than an hour into a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. No one knows where it went after that. Investigators think it’s somewhere off the west coast of Australia. – Business Insider

The 23-year old witness (himself and family members involved in other encounters) had on December 4 2011 at around 15:30 had seen whirling in the sky four diamond-shaped lights moving quickly from east to west. He was able to capture the luminous phenomenon with the game console since a camera is integrated with the system.
On the above date the witness woke up in the middle of the night and felt a presence in the room, after about 10 minutes he hears a low scintillating sound “tic tac ….accc” resembling “the buttons of the fax machine being operated” and then a faint red light floats towards him, as the light approaches he sees within the light a short robotic silhouette, in fact he realizes that there are two robotic figures standing near his bed. Soon the figures approach the witness and grab him by the wrists telling him “Come with us quietly” and then immediately repeat “Come with us outside without making a sound”. Is too dark for him to see their feet, while his clip-shaped hands are metallic and cold. Even though there are eight other people in the house is unable to scream while they drag him down the main corridor of the house. He is then surprised to see the front door of the house already wide opened, this frightens him. Upon leaving the house he sees a black diamond-shaped vessel sitting on a vacant lot next to the house, the vessel is supported on four leg-like supports. As they approached the object he sees a lighted row of portholes and a row of bright yellow glowing lights, he also sees strange symbols on the craft, one which he describes as resembling “L7”. The vessel seems larger than when he first saw and he estimates it to have been about 24 meters wide and 30 meters high. However once inside the craft the witness somehow realizes that it was much larger inside than outside, (this strange time displacement affect has been noted on numerous occasions).
His next memory is of lying strapped on what appeared to be an operating table. When the witness woke up on the table he noticed an abnormal environment surrounding him. All the walls and furniture were gray or black in color, comparable to the size of the two small robot-like creatures that initially kidnapped him. His hands and feet are hurting. Suddenly a door opens and four ‘people’ enter the room. One of them is wearing larger than the others and is wearing a different (uniform), he presents himself as the ‘leader’. He points at one of the others who was apparently now standing guard at the entrance of the door holding what appeared to be some sort of ‘weapon’ and tells the witness to calm down since ‘there was no escape’. The leader then reassures the witness that everything was going to be alright. There appears some sort of device attached to the leader’s head which seems to act as a translation device. Shortly after other individuals speak to him, these wear shoulder borne translation devices. He also sees the entities communicate among themselves using some sort of murmur with some discernible syllables. The communication with the witness is described as both telepathic and spoken.
The leader then presses a button on a console next to the table which releases the witness’ straps. He sits up and then stands upright. The floor feels soft and he is wearing some sort of slippers. He is then asked to move to the corner of the room where a ‘screen’ appears. He is guided there by his arm by one of the entities. Passing by a yellow window on the floor he sees numerous other similar beings apparently busy at some sort of warehouse facility, some using equipment which resembles backhoes, etc. They then ask him to put on a pair of “glasses” so he could ‘understand’ the presentation that he was about to watch. These glasses reflect the unknown language he sees on the screen, they translate into Arabic, the language of the witness. In the half hour or hour that followed, the abductee witnessed some sort of film presentation. The leader also explains that their ‘race’ is called “Cytrommes” and (supposedly) come from the planet Kepler-22b (in Cygnus) and they had been on Earth since 2002. The Cytrommes are amphibian humanoids from a cold climate.
After this very interesting presentation the witness is led out of the “examination room” (as he called it) and taken through what seemed to be a central corridor where there were a lot of doors. At that time the witness was able to observe closely the mechanism used to close the doors, he also notices that despite the fact that all the walls were gray and black in colors and the furniture and even the uniforms of the aliens were also black and gray given him the impression that they lived in a “world without colors” there was still a strong luminosity coming from the instruments. He went in another door where a guard stood into another room much larger than the “examination room” which appeared to be the “control room” of the vessel in which he saw a large ‘star chart’. The two entities there belong to ‘another unit’ and were distinguished by their blue suits (he was told that there were 18 units of social or functional categories in the society of the Cytrommes). The entity at the controls explained to the witness that on screen directly above them they could see the location of “allied ships and enemy ships”. They showed him on the screen two blue dots which indicated the presence of two allied vessels which were hovering near the airport north of Oujda. After this visit to the “control room”, the two ‘robots’ grabbed him again and brought him to a gateway. The leader then stood on the threshold and said, “See you on February 15 2020 in the forest of Sidi Maafa (south of Oujda).” Surprised he asked how was this possible, the leader then explained that they will build a new base that would be undetectable to humans since it would be in “another dimension” (!).
The robot-like humanoids then returned him to the threshold of the door of his house returned him his slippers (which seemed cleaner than ever) and returned to the vessel, the door closed and the vessel rose slowly, letting out a faint smell of smoke. The next day he told his family what had happened and was told that it had been just a dream (despite their previous experiences).

ALIEN CRAFT SPOTTED IN THE PUERTO RICO RAIN FOREST

Freddie, his wife and their young child were taking a drive around the rainforest area on Route 191. After cruising the area the road took a turn and the pair inadvertently took a detour deep into the forest. After a while they came up to a camouflaged gate deeper into the forest and after inspecting it they decided to drive through it. As they drove on the path in the woods they noticed that it was well lit by blue light bulbs on each side of the road. They drove through some hills for about 2 miles when the road abruptly ended. At it’s end there was a large metal gate and a building on the other side of it. At that moment two six-foot tall man-like figures appeared and ordered the pair to stop and asked who they were. The men wore tight-fitting black one-piece suits, resembling diver’s outfits, a wide black belt, black gloves, and large black boots with gold-colored metallic straps. They also wore large dark oval shaped helmets with dark visors. Their faces were not visible.  In eerie metallic-electronic sounding voices the strangers ordered the witnesses to step out of the car. The child remained sleeping in the back seat. One of the men took a long thin metallic tube with a mirror like tip and examined the vehicle. The figures asked the witnesses how they got there and then looked at the sleeping child inside. They then held a short conversation in a grave guttural language resembling German. One of the “men” then left the area and a blue pickup truck now arrived at the scene. Two men wearing blue coveralls were in the vehicle and spoke in Spanish to the witnesses, again asking them how they got there. The men then looked at the child and commented something in a low tone of voice to the strange figure in black that remained on the scene.At that moment Freddie noticed a glint of light coming from what appeared to be a rectangular shaped hollowed out area in the nearby wooded slope of a hill. There appeared to be several huge glass like doors and inside there was a disc shaped object, that was encircled in rectangular shaped windows and was 30 ft in diameter, it appeared metallic & aluminum in color. Thinking that he was seeing something he was not supposed to see, he quickly averted his gaze. The men did not appear to notice that Freddie had seen anything. The men in the blue pickup then ordered the couple and their child to follow them out of the area in their vehicle. They were quickly escorted out onto the main road.

The Strange Case Of The ‘Time Travel’ Murder

The strange case of the ‘time travel’ murder

A woman’s body is found in London. DNA turns up a hit, yet the suspect apparently died weeks before the alleged victim. Here, forensic scientist Dr Mike Silverman tells the story of one of the strangest cases of his career.

It was a real-life mystery that could have come straight from the pages of a modern-day detective novel. 

A woman had been brutally murdered in London and biological material had been found under her fingernails, possibly indicating that she might have scratched her attacker just before she died.

A sample of the material was analysed and results compared with the National DNA database and quickly came back with a positive match.

The problem was, the “hit” identified a woman who had herself been murdered – a full three weeks before the death of her alleged “victim”.

The killings had taken place in different areas of the capital and were being investigated by separate teams of detectives.

With no sign of a connection between the two women and nothing to suggest they had ever met, the most “likely” scenario was that the samples had been mixed-up or contaminated at the one obvious place that they had come together – the forensic laboratory. A complaint was made by the senior investigating officer.

It was 1997 and I was the national account manager for the Forensic Science Service at the time, so it was my responsibility to find out if a mistake had been made at the laboratory.

My first thought was that perhaps the second victim’s fingernail clipping had been mislabelled and had actually come from the first victim all along. As soon as I started to look at the samples, I could see this wasn’t the case.

DNA testing

• Forensic profiling examines six to ten specific variations, called markers, to create a DNA profile
• The chance that two unrelated people have identical profiles is less than one in one billion

The victim had painted her nails with a distinctive leopard skin pattern and the cuttings that had been taken bore the exact same pattern. There was no doubt that they were the correct ones.

I then checked through the laboratory records to see if there was any way the samples could have been accidentally mixed-up.

This too turned out to be a non-starter as the two sets of samples had never been out of the lab’s exhibit store at the same time. In any event, several weeks had passed between the analysis of the first and second clippings and different members of staff had been involved.

Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, I decided to look more closely at how the clippings themselves had come to be collected and discovered that both bodies had undergone an autopsy at the same mortuary, though they had arrived there several weeks apart.

Forensic autopsies – those carried out in the case of murder or suspicious death – are far more detailed and involved than standard, non-criminal autopsies. Among other examinations, blood and organ samples are collected for toxicological testing, stomach contents are collected and analysed and fingernails are scraped and clipped.

It was while I was examining the mortuary records that I came across a possible answer. It transpired that the body of the first murder victim had been kept in the freezer for several weeks while the police carried out their initial investigation.

It had been removed from the freezer to allow the pathologist to take additional nail clippings the day before the body of the second murder victim had arrived at the mortuary.

The following day, the same pair of scissors had been used to cut the nails of the second murder victim. Although the scissors had been cleaned between uses, I couldn’t help but wonder whether sufficient genetic material had survived the cleaning process to transfer onto the second victim’s nails and then produce a DNA profile in the subsequent analysis.

I had started my career in forensic science during the late 1970s and back then, the idea of being able to identify someone from a few tiny drops of blood seemed like something out of science fiction.

In those early days, we rarely wore protective clothing at crime scenes or worried about potential contamination because there was no method to analyse any biological material that was as small as the eye could see.

Today, everyone entering a crime scene has to don a new, clean paper over-suit and overshoes as well as gloves since DNA retrieval techniques are now so sensitive that simply lightly touching an object – such as a door knob or knife handle – can leave enough of a trace to carry out a successful DNA analysis.

In 1997, the time of the mystery murder, DNA profiling was only a few years old and, as I was about to discover, the technology was improving so quickly that previously unforeseen problems were beginning to occur.

I arranged for the nail scissors from the mortuary to be analysed and discovered not two but three separate DNA profiles were present. Further examination found DNA contamination on several other mortuary instruments but it was only ever going to present a problem when it came to fingernail scissors.

The autopsy knives, for example, were found to have traces of DNA of several different people on them, but because incisions were never sampled for DNA, cross contamination was not an issue.

I immediately sent out an urgent memo to all coroners, mortuaries and forensic pathologists in the country, highlighting the problem and suggesting that, in the future, all nail clippings should be taken with disposable scissors and that the scissors should then be placed in the evidence bag with the nail clippings to confirm they had only been used once. It’s a system that remains in place to this day. 

Modern DNA analysis is now so sensitive that contamination is a major issue, with the potential to send criminal investigations spiralling off in the wrong direction.

In Germany in 2007, traces of DNA belonging to an unknown female were found at the scene of the murder of a police officer.

When run through the German database, identical DNA was found to have been present at the scene of five other murders in Germany and France, along with several burglaries and car thefts. In total, the woman’s DNA was found at 40 separate crime scenes.

The German authorities spent two years and thousands of hours searching for the culprit, only to discover that the DNA had in fact been present on the swabs the crime scene investigators had been using to collect their samples. The swabs had been accidentally contaminated by a woman working at the factory that produced them.

For years DNA has been seen as the ultimate crime-fighting weapon with successful convictions arising from ever smaller traces, but in many ways DNA analysis has become a victim of its own success.

Now that we have the ability to create a DNA profile from just a few human cells, traces can be found almost everywhere.

But as we are all depositing DNA everywhere we go, the significance of finding and analysing these traces will become increasingly open to interpretation unless there is sufficient DNA material present to eliminate the possibility of secondary contact or cross-contamination, or additional evidence supporting direct involvement in the crime.
