Dit is ons nieuw hondje Kira, een kruising van een waterhond en een Podenko. Ze is sinds 7 februari 2024 bij ons en druk bezig ons hart te veroveren. Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

In ons zonnestelsel komen twee soorten planeten voor. Dichter bij de zon bevinden zich de kleinere rotsachtige planeten zoals de aarde, verder weg van de zon bevinden zich de gasreuzen zoals bijvoorbeeld Jupiter. Nu blijkt dat er bij de meer dan duizend gekende exoplaneten ook nog een derde soort voorkomt, de zogenaamde gasdwergen.
Het gaat hier om planeten met een rotsachtige kern die een bijzonder dikke gasmantel bezitten. Deze soort van planeten vormt zo'n beetje de overgang tussen de twee andere soorten. Verder blijkt ook dat de samenstelling van de ster bepalend is voor welke soorten planeten er rond een ster kunnen voorkomen. Naarmate er meer zware elementen voorkomen in een ster, zal deze ook meer gasreuzen bezitten.
Deze rubriek kwam tot stand in samenwerking met het Europlanetarium.
MODÈLE. Europe est un astre des plus fascinants pour les astronomes. Ce satellite de Jupiter est en effet couvert d'une couche de glace sous laquelle pourrait se trouver de véritables océans à l'état liquide.
De plus, son atmosphère, quoi que très ténue, est riche en oxygène (provenant de la décomposition chimique de la glace par les rayons UV). Bien que la température à sa surface voisine les -150°C, ce satellite est donc l'un des endroits de notre système solaire où l'on aurait le plus de chance... de trouver une vie extraterrestre.
100 millions "d'Europe" dans notre galaxie
S'agit-il d'un cas exceptionnel dans l'Univers ? Pas vraiment. Rien que dans la Voie lactée, il existerait au moins 100 millions de planètes au moins aussi "accueillantes" qu'Europe, sur laquelle la vie pourrait avoir une chance de se développer.
SOUS-REPRÉSENTÉES. Et elles pourraient être en réalité encore plus nombreuses car "les planètes semblables à la Terre (par la masse) sont sous-représentées dans l'échantillon étudié car elles sont trop petites pour être facilement détectées avec les instruments actuels" précise des chercheurs dans la revue scientifique suisse Challenge.
Ce chiffre étonnant est en effet issu d'une étude publiée le 28 mai 2014. Pour l'obtenir, les scientifiques de plusieurs universités américaines (universités du Texas, de Porto-Rico et l'université Cornell), allemandes (université technique de Berlin) et espagnoles (centre d'astrobiologie de Torrejón de Ardoz) ont passé en revue 637 exoplanètes découvertes depuis la Terre.
Un indice de complexité biologique
À partir des données collectées par les différentes agences spatiales, les chercheurs ont établi pour chacune de ces planètes un "indice de complexité biologique" (BCI en Anglais). Cet indice est calculé à partir de paramètres tels que la température de l'exoplanète, l'énergie qu'elle reçoit de son astre, ses caractéristiques orbitales, son âge ainsi que sa nature rocheuse ou non.
Classement des 29 premières planètes (extrait de la publication) en fonction de l'indice de complexité biologique (le plus à droite dans le tableau).
Sur cette échelle, la Terre obtient un score de 0,97, et Europe se classe à la 14e place avec un score de 0,71. Mars est entre les deux avec un score de 0,83.
D'après les calculs des chercheurs, 98,4% des exoplanètes étudiées ont un indice de complexité biologique inférieur à celui d'Europe. Mais tout de même 10 sur les 637 étudiées présentaient un indice au moins équivalent.
EXTRAPOLATION. Ils ont ensuite posé comme hypothèse que ce rapport d'habitabilité potentiel (10 sur 637) est constant dans l'Univers.
"Si nous estimons qu'il existe entre 10 et 100 milliards d'exoplanètes dans la voie lactée et que seulement 1% d'entre elles présentent des caractéristiques compatibles avec l'évolution d'organismes complexes, alors cela nous fait tout de même 100 millions de planètes candidates au développement de la vie telle que nous la connaissons dans notre galaxie" chiffrent les chercheurs.
Les prérequis pour que la vie apparaisse dans le cosmos sont courants.
"Cette étude constitue le premier argument quantitatif qui tende à prouver que les formes de vies complexes, quoi que très rares en fréquence sur les planètes, pourraient être très nombreuses en nombre absolu rien que dans notre galaxie" s'enthousiasme l'étude.
PROTOPLANÈTES. "Des molécules organiques ont été découvertes un peu partout dans l'Univers : dans les régions où se forment les étoiles comme dans les disques des protoplanètes en passant par les météorites, les comètes ou l'espace profond, rappellent les chercheurs. L'eau est une molécule très répandue dans l'univers, tout comme le sont les sources d'énergie (telles que les rayonnements ou la chaleur). Les prérequis pour que la vie apparaisse sont très courants dans le cosmos".
Un indice qui ne mesure par la probabilité d'apparition de la vie
Toutefois, ces chiffres méritent d'être relativisés. Tout d'abord parce qu'une planète "dont les caractéristiques sont compatibles avec le développement de la vie" ne signifie aucunement que cette planète est habitée (même uniquement par des bactéries).
D'ailleurs, aux dernières nouvelles, et même s'il existe dans notre système solaire des candidats prometteurs, nous n'avons pas encore trouvé de vie ailleurs que sur Terre.
PRÉCAUTION. Les chercheurs le reconnaissent dans leur étude : "l'indice BCI doit être utilisé avec précaution. Il ne s'agit pas d'un indice de probabilité d'y trouver la vie, mais donne juste un classement des planètes les unes par rapport aux autres, et leur compatibilité avec des scénarios évolutifs complexes."
Autrement dit, la planète Gliese a beau tenir le haut du pavé en présentant un indice de complexité biologique supérieur à celui de la Terre, il n'est pas évident du tout qu'elle puisse réellement abriter de la vie.
Mais cette étude a au moins le mérite de nous donner une idée approximative du nombre de planètes qu'il nous reste à explorer pour espérer apporter une réponse définitive à cette éternelle question : sommes nous seuls dans l'Univers ?

The anomaly is located on the northwest corner of the Western Plateau of Mount Ararat (approximately 39°42′10″N 44°16′30″ECoordinates: 39°42′10″N 44°16′30″E) at about 15,500 ft (4,724 m), some 2.2 km (1.4 mi) west of the 16,854 ft (5,137 m) summit, on the edge of what appears from the photographs to be a steep downward slope. It was first filmed during a U.S. Air Force aerial reconnaissance mission in 1949 — the Ararat massif sits on the former Turkish/Soviet border, and was thus an area of military interest — and was accordingly given a classification of “secret” as were subsequent photographs taken in 1956, 1973, 1976, 1990 and 1992, by aircraft and satellites.
Six frames from the 1949 footage were released under the Freedom of Information Act to Porcher Taylor, a professor at the University of Richmond in Virginia, and a scholar at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies specializing in satellite intelligence and diplomacy, in 1995.
A joint research project was later established between Insight Magazine and Space Imaging (now GeoEye), using the IKONOS satellite. IKONOS captured the anomaly on August 5 and September 13, 2000. GeoEye has constructed a computerized video of the imagery it captured of the anomaly. The structure appears at approximately halfway through the video. A controversial “bird’s eye view” satellite image, taken by IKONOS later in 2003 for the same research project, was released to the public in 2006.
The Mount Ararat area also has been imaged by France’s SPOT satellite in September 1989, Landsat in the 1970s and NASA’s Space shuttle in 1994, as well as military satellite images captured by the CIA’s KH-9 (Keyhole 9) in 1973 and KH-11 in 1976 and 1990–1992.

An enormous asteroid – approximately the size of an aircraft carrier – is due to zip past Earth on Sunday. Dubbed “The Beast,” the huge space rock is estimated to fly past our planet, no closer than around 3.2 lunar distances.
The asteroid 2014 HQ124 was discovered by NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer on April 23. The sky-mapping telescope was deployed to perceive the glow of hundreds of millions of never before seen objects, from near-Earth asteroids to luminous galaxies. It was hoped the telescope could generate a catalogue of images that could help astronomers understand some of the fundamental mysteries surrounding the origins of planets and stars.
Researchers connected with NASA’s Asteroid Watch program at JPL in Pasadena, California, claim Asteroid 2014 HQ124 is over 1,000 feet in width. On Sunday, the asteroid will be travelling at speeds of up to 31,000 miles per hour when it is closest to the Earth.
Although astronomers predict the asteroid will miss the Earth, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has classified The Beast as a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (PHA).
The Slooh Space Camera started broadcasting the spectacle at 2:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, June 5. Slooh’s astronomers streamed the event from Australia, using time-lapse video footage from their robotic observatory in Chile. The webcast included commentary from host Geoff Fox, Slooh community observatory astronomer Bob Berman and a specialist in asteroid impacts, Mark Boslough.

Ruim 50 jaar geleden verdween de eeuwenoude stad Shi Cheng, ook bekend als de Leeuwenstad, in de Chinese provincie Zhejiang onder water. De overheid had toen namelijk plannen voor een nieuwe waterkrachtcentrale waarvoor deze 1800 jaar oude stad moest wijken.
Om deze mysterieuze gezonken stad te bezichtigen moet je nu 26 tot 40 meter duiken. Een gewilde attractie zo blijkt, want enkele investeerders maakten er een avonturenpark voor toeristen van.
Heracleion
Meer dan 1200 jaar geleden verdween Heracleion, een stad in de buurt van Alexandrië, in de Middellandse Zee. De Franse onderwaterarcheoloog Franck Goddio kwam de ooit bruisende havenstad enkele jaren geleden op het spoor.
De ruïnes van de verzonken stad werden ruim negen meter onder het wateroppervlak ontdekt, in de baai van Aboekir, gelegen aan één van de mondingen van de Nijldelta. De wetenschappers blijven in het ongewisse over de precieze ondergang van Heracleion, maar aan archeologische ontdekkingen ontbreekt het hen niet.
De afgelopen 13 jaar legden ze al 64 scheepswrakken bloot, evenals ruim 700 ankers, gouden munten, gewichten uit Athene en gigantische stenen tafels met opschriften in het oud-Grieks en –Egyptisch. Er werden ook resten van metershoge beelden gevonden.
Yonaguni
Bij het Japanse eiland Yonaguni zijn ruïnes gevonden van constructies die vermoedelijk voor het einde van de laatste ijstijd zijn gebouwd. Ook zijn sporen van landleven aangetroffen. Men schat dat de ruïnes zeker 8000 tot 14.000 jaar oud zijn.
Voor de kust van het eiland is een piramide van bijna 200 meter breed en zo’n 30 meter hoog gevonden. Het bouwwerk bestaat uit vijf verschillende verdiepingen. In het gebied zijn ook onbekende hiërogliefen aangetroffen. De meeste archeologen houden echter vast aan de stelling dat de onderwaterconstructies geologische eigenaardigheden zijn.
Nan Madol
De stad Nan Madol bestaat uit een aantal kleine, kunstmatige eilanden, die met kanalen verbonden zijn. Op de eilanden treft men netjes opgestapelde hopen basaltblokken aan die vaak een paar ton per stuk wegen en waarvan de oorsprong nog niet achterhaald is. De naam Nan Madol betekent letterlijk ‘ruimte tussen’, wat duidt op de kanalen tussen de deeleilanden.
Een gangbare theorie is dat dit eiland een overblijfsel is van een heel oude cultuur en dat de bouwsels een rituele bestemming hadden. De oorspronkelijke bevolking van Nan Madol is in de 19e eeuw volledig uitgestorven.
Khambhat
Enkele jaren geleden werd in de Golf van Khambhat aan de westkust van India een 9500 jaar oude verzonken stad ontdekt. Lange tijd werd gedacht dat het gebied 5500 jaar geleden pas werd bewoond. Wetenschappers vermoeden dat de beschaving is verdwenen na prehistorische overstromingen. De stad bestaat uit meerdere straten en is uitgerust met een riool.
Pavlopetri
Pavlopetri is een stad die volledig onder water ligt en bevindt zich ten zuidwesten van Laconië in de Griekse bestuurlijke regio Peloponnesos. De onderwaterstad wordt beschouwd als één van de oudste ter wereld en is uniek omdat bijna de gehele topografie inclusief wegen, gebouwen en graven nog intact is.
De archeologische vindplaats heeft een omvang van ongeveer 9000 vierkant meter. In de jaren zestig werd de stad ontdekt en in kaart gebracht door Nicholas Flemming.
Galilea
Een enorme rotspartij in het Meer van Galilea deed de geleerden afgelopen jaar versteld staan. De 10 meter hoge structuur heeft een diameter van 70 meter en bestaat uit zo’n 60.000 reusachtige basaltstenen. Archeoloog Yitzhak Paz van de Ben-Gurion Universiteit van de Negev is van mening dat het stenen gevaarte door mensenhanden is gemaakt en tenminste 4000 jaar oud is.
Israëlische archeologen ontdekten de rotspartij al in 2003 bij een sonaronderzoek. De rotspartij, die mogelijk een gigantisch grafmonument is, ligt op zo’n 1,5 kilometer ten noorden van de prehistorische stad Khirbet Kerak. Volgens experts had de stad destijds zo’n 5000 inwoners en was hij ingericht met geplaveide straten en vestingswerken.

Domingo de la Cruz Horta, better known as “El Hilario” had taken his sheep herd for a night walk on some fields near the village. At the time there had been an unrelenting drought in the area which forced Domingo to walk the herd late at night or early morning and into some fields which he had been p…rohibited from visiting by the owner. On this night, against his better judgment, Domingo was accompanied by a young helper. Around 2am after the animals had finished drinking water Domingo decided it was time to return to his farm. Exiting a small eucalyptus forest they noticed a very bright light coming from a field on a nearby farm. Domingo and his helper immediately thought it was the owner of said farm looking for trespassers. They could see a figure that was carrying the powerful beam of light. Suddenly and to their immense surprise the figure suddenly shot up into the air arriving at a very high altitude in a matter of seconds and silently. He didn’t appeared to be aided by any machinery or apparatus that they could see. Suddenly the hovering figure fell back to the ground. Thinking that whoever the person was it was now hurt or severely injured both men ran towards the location where he had been seen to fall to the ground. But suddenly they saw the figure appear from behind some bushes and shoot up into air this time flying in their direction. The figure illuminated the stunned witnesses with the beam of light which now seemed to be less potent. The strange flying man then descended slowly to the ground landing close to the witnesses and began to look around illuminating the area with the beam of light. Domingo noticed that the stranger wore a dark outfit with dark pants and a shiny “crown-like” hat. As Domingo approached the stranger in an attempt to speak to him, the man completely ignored him, turned around and walked back to the location where he had descended to earth before, once there he took off again to the sky, and as he did the beam of light he carried became much brighter. According to the witnesses the flying man hovered over the area for about 15 minutes and around 03:00 a.m. he left the area in the direction of Portugal.

Albert K. Bender was in his den at exactly 6.00 pm, he then proceeded to take part in an experiment (to contact the UFO aliens) he had planned. He put out the lights in his room and then quietly laid down on his bed. After studying the ‘saucers’ for eleven years, he felt that he would try anything that might help sol…ve the mystery. Saucer investigation had become the biggest part of his life, and he had worked diligently to reach a solution. As soon as he was comfortably situated on the bed, he closed his eyes and began to repeat the message over and over, three times to be exact. It was after the third attempt that he felt terrible, a cold chill hit his whole body. Then his head began to ache as if several headaches had saved up their anguish and heaped it upon him at one time. A strange odor reached his nostrils, like that of burning sulfur or badly decomposed eggs. Then he partly lost consciousness as the room around him began to fade away. Then small lights seemed to swim through his brain and they seemed to blink like the flashing lights of an ambulance. He seemed to be floating on a cloud in the middle of space, with a strange feeling of weightlessness controlling his entire anatomy. A throbbing pain developed in his temples and they felt as if they might burst. The parts of his forehead directly over his eyes seemed to be puffed up. He felt cold, very cold, as if he were lying naked on a floating piece of ice in the Antarctic Ocean. He opened his eyes and to his amazement he seemed to be floating above his bed but looking down upon it where he imagined he could see his own body lying there. It was as if his soul had left his body and he was hovering above it about three feet in midair. He could hear a voice which permeated him but in some way did not seem to be an audible sound. The voice seemed to come from the room in front of him, which remained pitch dark. “We have been watching you and your activities. Please be advised to discontinue delving into the mysteries of the universe. We will make an appearance if you disobey.” He replied in words, though his lips did not move. “Why aren’t you friendly to us, as we do not mean to do any harm to you?’ “We have a special assignment,” came the reply, “and must not be disturbed by your people.” As he tried remonstrate, he was interrupted by another statement. “We are among you and know your every move, so please be advised we are here on your Earth.” With this the voice faded away, but he could sense that something was watching him. His body seemed to drop suddenly and he once again regained his senses and realized he was on his bed. The room was filled with yellow mist. Not far from his bed was a shadow, resembling that of a man, but as he made a move to rise from the bed it disappeared. The yellow mist was gradually fading and his room was becoming normal. He rubbed his eyes in bewilderment. As he sat on the edge of his bed he grew sick to his stomach, he felt as if he had eaten something spoiled. After a while he got up from the bed and walked about the room. He heard a humming and notice that his radio was on. He turned it off, as he realized he had not turned it on when he came into the room.
According to this information the Russians have known about alien civilizations for several decades, to many this comes as no surprise, there have been rumors floating around for many years. Well respected military and government scientist have been trying to speak out on this issue for sometime now. In the vast majority of cases the mainstream media either treats this like a non event, or they treat it like the information is coming from very unreliable sources. This information is a big step in disclosure process for mankind.
In Soviet times, the Ministry of Defense was working on a secret project aimed at creating a superhuman with paranormal abilities. Under this project, a group of scientists managed to get in touch with a foreign(read alien) civilization. The head of this top-secret project shared some details with reporters for the first time.
On a regular winter day in Moscow, in the comfort a room with a fireplace, journalists were given a real sensation. A senior retired official of the Ministry of Defense, lieutenant-general in reserve, PhD, a fellow of the Academy of Natural Sciences Alexey Savin said that in the late 1980′s a group of researchers from the Expert Management Unit of General Staff managed to make a contact with representatives of another civilization.
Interestingly, none of the journalists were particularly surprised but, rather, relieved with the “confession.
Vasily Yeremenko, a Major General of FIB in reserve, academician of the Academy of Security, Defense and Law Enforcement, was the first to speak to the press. In Soviet times he served in the KGB and supervised the Air Force and development of aviation technology.
Among his assignments was collection of information by the Air Force of the facts of appearance of unidentified flying objects. According to Vasily Yeremenko, by that time there was an ample amount of such information.

"We can say that we learned to summon UFOs in Vladimirovka. To do this, we dramatically increased the number of military flights and movement of the equipment. If the intensity on our side increased, UFOs appeared with the probability of 100 percent," explained Yeremenko. After six months of tests the authoritative commission came to three main conclusions. First, modern science was not yet able to identify such phenomena. Second, it could be reconnaissance equipment of the U.S. or Japan. Third, it could be an impact of an extraterrestrial civilization. "The UFO topic today is ubiquitous. Precisely because of its scandalous nature serious scientists are not willing to identify their position on this issue. Pilots often see such objects, but they have a veto on this topic, so do astronauts. In confidential conversations they talk about their experiences meeting with UFOs, but they are afraid to speak publicly about this," said Vasily Yeremenko.
He believes that this subject requires a serious approach because it is a security issue. Yet, it is still a closed topic both in the U.S. and in Russia. Lt. Gen. Alexey Savin proceeded to reveal some aspects of the engagement of the Ministry of Defense. He headed the Expert Management Unit of the General Staff, whose task was to examine various unusual phenomena.
The main project of the unit was a state program on the discovery of intellectual human resources. The goal of the program was to identify ways to make the human brain work in a special regime of super-powers, making a person a superhuman. The Scientific Council of the program was led by an Academician Natalya Bekhtereva, who until her death served as a scientific director of the Institute of Human Brain of RAS.
Over two hundred highly skilled professionals from across the country participated in the program. "In the process of research, we came to the conclusion that a human was an energy and information system that receives information from outside. This is precisely why a human can manifest paranormal abilities," said Alexey Savin. In order to identify this external source of information, three groups were created. One group was formed from scientists, another - from military, and the third one was composed of women.
The group of women made the most significant progress in the research. Savin explained that they "wanted to make a contact with representatives of other civilizations. And we did it." According to him, a special method has been developed that allowed the human brain to tune into a contact. "We had to tune energy-contour of the human brain to a particular wave, like a radio," Alexey Savin explained.
No hypnosis, drugs, or other similar methods were used in the course of the experiment. A special system of testing was also developed to separate the incoming reports from hallucinations and insanity of the experiment participants. The experimental results were impressive: six participants were given a chance of physical contact, and two of them even managed to visit an alien ship. According to Savin, representatives of extraterrestrial civilizations revealed themselves gradually, giving away the information as they saw fit.
In particular, they talked about their government structure and education system. No information on the military could be obtained. The only thing they agreed to share was a scheme of the equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. The head of the experiment explained that humans were like small children to them. "Our civilization is too young to be of interest to them as a subject for a dialogue. Because we are also a part of the universe, we may harm ourselves and other civilizations with our foolish actions, so they are looking out for us. "
The program of communication with extraterrestrial intelligence had been developed for several years until politics intervened. In 1993, the study was stopped and the unit disbanded. According to Savin, he was able to retain only a small number of documents, most of them, including photo reports, are still in the archives of the Ministry of Defense. Incidentally, the unique method for the development of the phenomenal abilities of an individual, until recently, was used in the Academy named after Gagarin until it was disbanded by the former Defense Minister Serdyukov. Yet, the core of the research team was preserved. "Four years ago we tried to repeat the experiment, and we were successful," said Alexey Savin. According to him, today this work continues, and the "brains and talented people are still present in the defense industry." Answering the question of Pravda.Ru why it was decided to announce it to the media Savin replied: "Why hide something from people? Instead, they need to prepare for new challenges."
He believes that there are two global challenges today: climate change and shortage of drinking water. Russia has a special role in this process. "When we pass the point of bifurcation, people from all over will run to us. How will we meet them, with weapons? Ofcourse, we will have to negotiate." Maybe all this is a puzzle from the "textbook" for young civilizations? Perhaps, aliens have arranged an experiment to see how we would handle it

Amateur prospector Steven Michalak was hunting for minerals and gems alone in rocky terrain when his attention was drawn to something behind him and, turning around, he saw two scarlet red oval shaped objects descending rapidly toward the ground.
One landed about 160 ft away on the rocky surface of the ground but the other hovered nearby for several minutes before leaving at high speed. For 30 minutes, the UFO simply changed colors (red to gray-red to light gray to hot stainless steel.) Then he saw a square shaped opening appear in the side of the craft from which a brilliant purple light was emitted along with wafts of warm air in waves and the odor of sulfur. Upon walking carefully toward the object, he reached a distance of about 60 ft where he thought he heard human voices coming from it.
Michalak, Polish born, shouted out at the object using English, German, French, Russian, Polish, Ukrainian, and Italian to try to obtain a response. He heard no reply at all. Now standing within a foot of the UFO, the witness decided to take a look inside it, donning green protective lenses, which he used during rock prospecting Michalak craned his neck into the opening. He saw a maze of lights moving horizontally and diagonally, and several series of flashing lights. The UFO suddenly and without warning tilted slightly and he felt a scorching pain in his chest. He reflexively touched the surface of the object and his rubber-coated glove melted and his shirt caught fire. He ripped his shirt off and watched as the UFO rose upward with a sudden rush of air. It was soon lost from sight. Michalak suffered numerous physiological symptoms including chest burns in the pattern of a grill. He became nauseated and got a strong headache. He lost over 20 lbs. over the next few days.
