Dit is ons nieuw hondje Kira, een kruising van een waterhond en een Podenko. Ze is sinds 7 februari 2024 bij ons en druk bezig ons hart te veroveren. Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.
This is our new dog Kira, a cross between a water dog and a Podenko. She has been with us since February 7, 2024 and is busy winning our hearts. She is a sweet, affectionate dog who quickly adapted to us within a week. She is very quick and curious, a very different dog than Noleke.

New amazing video footage of a flashing UFO light recorded over Oregon on 26th August2014.
Witness said: The flashes were observed over two nights in the oregon skies. They remain in a general location and sometimes flash brighter or dimmer between 8-10 seconds apart. The object flashes/pulses for over an half-hour and shortly after is no longer visible. This is a strange one indeed and one of my friends just reported seeing the same event. He lives about 7 miles away.
Believers van buitenaards leven kicken massaal op dit beeld dat werd geschoten door de marsverkenner Curiosity. Voor hen staat het vast: dit zijn de fossiele resten van het dijbeen van een marsmannetje. Tot het tegendeel is bewezen gaan we er evenwel best van uit dat het gewoon een steen is.
Het beeld werd onlangs gespot op UFO-blogger.com en al snel deden de wildste speculaties de ronde. "Het is erg waarschijnlijk dat er ooit leven is geweest op de planeet Mars", weet een blogger. "Het is dus bijgevolg niet uitgesloten dat er fossielen van die uitgestorven wezens worden gevonden".
Water Het onbemande voertuig Curiosity landde twee jaar geleden op Mars. Het kan bodemmonsters analyseren op sporen van leven. Op 27 september 2012 stuurde de Curiosity foto's naar de Aarde waaruit bleek dat er ooit op Mars water moet hebben gestroomd. Kiezelstenen waren dermate geërodeerd dat zij lang in stromend water hadden gelegen. In maart van vorig jaar maakte het Amerikaanse ruimtevaartagentschap NASA bekend dat onderzoek van een rotsmonster had aangetoond dat in vroeger tijden leven op Mars mogelijk is geweest.
Eerder deze week deelde de Amerikaanse astronaut Reid Wiseman deze foto op Twitter. Vanuit het internationale ruimtestation ISS fotografeerde hij de Golf Thailand. Op de afbeelding is Bangkok, de hoofdstad van Thailand, duidelijk te zien. Naar de oorsprong van de groene lichten op het water was het gissen. Toch vanuit de ruimte...
Eens aan land wordt snel duidelijk dat het om tientallen vissersboten gaat. Die beschikken over honderden heldere groene ledlampen om plankton aan te trekken. Het ultieme doel is het vangen van inktvissen. Zij volgen het plankton dat door het licht wordt aangetrokken en zijn zo een makkelijke prooi.
De Europese Ruimtevaartorganisatie ESA heeft bijzondere beelden vrijgegeven van het noorderlicht. De Duitse kosmonaut Alexander Gerst legde de natuurpracht vast op video en goot de shots in een verbluffende timelapse. Gerst en zijn collega's zagen het schouwspel vanuit het ISS. John Greenewald, Jr. of The Black Vault was successful in getting a Mandatory Declassification Review (MDR) of the Yeates affidavit; a Top Secret explanation on why the NSA was withholding the release of the hundreds of UFO documents. It was created during the Citizens Against UFO Secrecy (CAUS) v NSA court case which took place in 1980 and has largely remained blacked out since it was redacted and released to the general public.
This record convinced the judge of the case, that the NSA, along with the COMunication INTelligence (COMINT) reports which were not released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), should remain hidden and not released to the public. They were many years later, however, they were nearly entirely blacked out — with only a few words legible on many of the pages. Despite the records entering the public domain, the fact that many were heavily redacted, proved to many that the NSA was actively engaged in a UFO cover-up.
The MDR was filed by Greenewald back in July of 2013, and took over a year to process. MDR’s can be requested under the FOIA, and by law, the agency will “declassify information that no longer meets the standards for classification.”However, the allegation of a cover-up deepened with the fact that under the the same MDR filed by Greenewald, the NSA was also requested to review the hundreds of blacked out UFO COMINT reports that have eluded the public’s eye with being primarily classified and blacked out.
However, this portion of the request was denied. Ironically, the NSA claimed they could not find a single one, unredacted, to do a review.
In essence, the ‘originals’ were destroyed or lost when they blacked out the records many years ago — and now in 2014 — they are missing and can not be further reviewed for declassification and release. The history, whatever it may be, is lost forever.

I was sleeping in my room when my dog started growling and barking! My window was open and I heard what sounded like a person outside my house walking in the gravel. I very quietly got out of bed and snuck into a area in my house to where I noticed something pass in front of a outside light casting a child size shadow. I then tried to sneak to the window and peer out and I couldn't see anything! I then went into the garage open the garage door thinking that there was someone outside my house trying to steal or do something that they shouldn't be doing around 330am. Teenager Meghan LaPlante discovered the crustacean while checking lobster traps at the weekend.
The bright blue lobster, which scientists say is a 1 in 2 million specimen, demonstrates a vivid shade of blue due to a genetic defect that leads to the excessive production of a certain protein.
14-year-old Meghan, who helps her parents out during the summer at Miss Meghan’s Lobster Catch in Old Orchard Beach, is no stranger to finding unusual catches in her traps but admits that she has never seen anything like this one before.
The blue lobster has since gained the attention of marine experts across the United States and will be donated to the Maine State Aquarium for further study.
Despite its rarity however there have been some even more unusual shades of lobster hauled up from the depths of the ocean over the years. The odds of finding a bright red lobster for instance are 1 in 10 million whereas a yellow one is even rarer at 1 in 30 million.
Rarest of all however is an albino lobster with no coloring at all with odds of 1 in 100 million. - Boston Globe
Scientists: Mysterious Kennewick Man looked Polynesian and came from far away
The mysterious Kennewick Man, who died 9,000 years ago in the Columbia River Valley, was a seal hunter who rambled far and wide with a projectile point lodged in his hip, five broken ribs that never healed properly, two small dents in his skull and a bum shoulder from the repetitive stress of throwing spears.
He came from somewhere far away, far up the Pacific Northwest coast, possibly Alaska or the Aleutian Islands. He might even have come to North America all the way from Asia.
Scientists have told their story of Kennewick Man before in lectures and interviews, but the new book represents the most detailed account of research that came about only after scientists sued for access to the bones. The Army of Corps of Engineers, which has custody of the bones, had pressed the scientists to publish their research. Now it has finally arrived, in a volume as thick and heavy as a textbook. Joseph Stillwell (involved in a previous encounter) was awakened by an odd noise, a low toned “pop”, and immediately opened his eyes. He was lying on his back and although his face was exposed, the bedding was pulled upward and piled at his chin, in a pyramidal shape, so high that he could only see the ceiling directly above. The pointed apex of this form was an arms-length high and the sides descended, arrow straight, to either side of his shoulders. Looking up, left or right, the edge of this structure was even with his chin and perfectly aligned, vertical and flat, as if cut with a knife.
Nothing was supporting this structure and it was only touching his shoulders. The void between his torso and the peak of the bedding was several feet high yet the sides of the structure, though descending at significant angles to either shoulder, remained straight and vertical as if solid. He stared with wonderment at the sky blue light that was pulsing across the ceiling. It was lit in a dim, pulsating, blue glow, across the width of the room and down the walls, the source of which was toward the foot of the bed, obscured from his view by the bizarre mound of blankets. He brought both arms up from his sides and grasped the pile and pulled it down as he raised his head. There was no resistance. The ceiling at the end of the room was brightly lit, brilliant blue and moving. It looked like the agitated surface of a swimming pool, with randomly forming intertwining light patterns against a bright blue background. It was three-dimensional, projecting off of the plane where the ceiling should be. It also had depth, with the “water-like” medium visible well above where the ceiling, attic, and roof should have been. It appeared that the affected portion of the ceiling and house was gone. This moving portion of the ceiling spanned the width of the room, with crisp termination at the three walls it was touching. It projected about eighteen inches out from the far wall and the border that was an open ceiling was different. It was fuzzy, or blurred and quite different from the other edges. It made no sound even though that section of ceiling was moving rapidly. He was mesmerized by this display as he lifted his head.
There was someone standing at the foot of his bed, directly at his feet. The blue band on the ceiling waned and the thing at the foot of the bed started glowing blue. Its head shone, beautiful blue, flickered twice and went dark. It was big and it was not human. It was at least six feet tall, with a head twice the size of a man and enormous black eyes. It was wearing a dark cape that was cinched at the chin with a short collar that had a small “V” opening at the front and ran up to the jaw line on either side. It was looking slightly to its right as the witness raised his head and either seeing him move or sensing movement it turned its head and looked straight at him. That was the only time he saw it move. Its head was much wider than where its’ shoulders should be. The portion of the cape just below the collar could not have been more than eight inches in breadth. The cape covered its entire body and splayed outward as it hung below the foot of his bed, out of his field of view. It had numerous vertical folds and appeared to be flexible, as cloth. He did not see it move.
At some point the blue band on the ceiling reappeared and though he never took his eyes off of this creature he did not see it happen. It was just there much larger than before, covering about 40% of the ceiling from the far wall to the foot of his bed. From the edge on open ceiling hung a vertical, transparent, “curtain” of moving light. It appeared as a giant pane of glass spanning the breadth of the room, wall to wall and from ceiling to floor. Contorting rays of blue and white light rippled across and down this plane and gave it the appearance of movement (as in a windblown flag). The ceiling was moving much differently than before and because of the increase in area affected was illuminating the entire room in bright blue. The ceiling pattern was now not random rippling but row upon row of undulating blue tubes, about one and a half inches in diameter, moving across the width of the room. The edges of each tube were shadowed with gray and the entire affected area of the ceiling was slightly out of focus, fuzzy. There were scores of rows of these things, side by side, apparently touching and undulating up and down with no synchronization to each of the others movement. They emanated from the left wall and disappeared into the right side wall, endlessly. The display was also three-dimensional with the tubes curving down below the ceiling plane and then up beyond where the ceiling and roof should be. It was as if the ceiling in the lit portion of the room was, again, gone. The witness was in awe and kept thinking, “remember everything”.
Because the room was so brightly lit it was easy to see detail in the creature standing before him. With his head raised, the distance from his face to the creature was maybe five feet. It was standing just behind the “curtain of light” and never passed through it. Its face was the size of a human size and shape. The mouth was narrow, no lips, and remained as a straight slit the entire time. The nose was small and had two nostrils. Ears were smaller than ours, but not tiny, and flat against the sides of its head. It’s eyes were huge and jet black, and though they appeared wet and glossy he never saw it blink, nor did he detect eyelids. Its cranium was startling in its size and shape. It was twice the size of an adult human and when he originally raised his head as it was looking to its right he could see that the back of its head cantilevered dramatically over the back of its neck. It had no hair, but where the position of a forehead hairline would be, was instead, a crease in its skull that ran around its entire head. The top of its head was flattened and where that surface met the curved sides of the head it formed a ridge or edge where the two dissimilar surfaces met. He noticed something about its eyes when it first turned to him when he moved. Its eyes were black and identical as it turned, but when it set its gaze on him its right eye caught the light differently than the left. He could actually see through the external membrane into the back of the eye. There was an area of vertical, silver striation that appeared to be part of its inner eye. Its expression never changed. It made no sound. It did not move. At some point, the “curtain of light” and the undulating tubes in the ceiling were gone. He never looked away, but he did not see them disappear. They were just gone.
Something appeared on the eyes of the creature. Again, though he did not avert his gaze he did not see it materialize. It was just there. It looked similar to “netting” but with a crude and randomly spaced and shaped weave. The color was light brown and both eyes were affected. This “netting” transformed from a narrow brown matrix to a much broader, crisp, gray and white, glossy material. The pattern remained the same but the appearance of the substance forming the pattern changed dramatically. He was staring into its eyes from five feet away and did not see the transition. He has no explanation for this. He lay back on the pillow, never breaking his gaze. He did not move. He doesn’t know if he was able but no part of him moved. He recalled having no sensation. He felt no fear. There was no sound. The creature displayed no alarm at him waking and showed no aggression. At some point the “curtain of light” and moving blue ceiling reappeared and increased dramatically in brightness, so quickly and so bright that he raised his head and had to squint his eyes to see. He was trying to see the true color of the creature through the blue and white light, which at this point, was swirling around the being. The “light curtain” still existed across the room but a “cyclone” of light encircled the creature. Myriad white and blue bolts of light created a sparkling cascade of “glitter” as they randomly crossed through each other, surrounding this being in a cocoon of sparking light. The room was brilliant with flashing and swirling blue and white light, enabling him to easily see detail of the creatures head. Its skin was not blue, but a very light gray mottled with purple. The color reminded him of how a human, exhibiting cyanosis, looks. There were vessels coursing across its face and head, some exceptionally large, primarily on its forehead. They were blue, with many easily visible bifurcations, and looked like the vessels we see on very pale humans. There was one especially large vein above its right eye that ran vertically; split at the skull crease, with the largest section running up onto the top of its head and a smaller, yet very prominent branch, running left laterally just below the crease. Despite the intense light being generated in the room he never saw this creature blink, yet its eyes remained as glossy as polished lacquer. It seemed to be emanating light and the “glitter” effect became almost blinding as the cyclonic swirls surrounding this creature increased in speed. There was no sound.
He has a clear memory of the creature being in the air, off the floor, encased in light, with its left side toward him. It is the only postural change that he remembers but he never saw it happen. He only remembers that it was in the air. He was looking right at it and did not see it rise. It somehow got in the air, surrounded by swirling light. The creature was still in its position at the foot of his bed, behind the “light curtain” (having never crossed through it) when the witness had a sudden awareness that his feet were almost touching the transparent vertical surface. He could feel that his heels were over the end of the mattress, but he could not move them. To this point he had felt no fear, only a sense of amazement and wonder. But suddenly, he was gripped with a sense of terror. It was immediate and crippling in its intensity. The creature did nothing that he could recall that would have prompted his fear. However his curiosity and sense of enchantment instantly turned to a feeling of impending doom. This is the point where he remembers sensing his body. He could physically feel and his emotion was hopelessness. It is the only time in his life that he knew something was about to happen to him and that the outcome was not only going to be dire, but he could not stop it. His arms moved and he rolled onto his left side. His eyes closed. He doesn’t know why. There was no sound. He thinks that he was lying there for about a minute. His eyes opened and he looked over his shoulder to where the creature stood. It was gone, as was the transparent “curtain”, and the blue light. He was disoriented, confused. He did not appear to be in his room and it was not as dark as it should be. The walls to his left and ahead of him were not where they should have been. They were both too far away. He sat up and did not recognize the room. The walls were not where they should be. The room was too big. He was dizzy and did not know where he was. He leaned back on his left arm, feeling like he was going to fall over. He was certain he was in his room and kept looking around trying to orient himself. The wall to his left and at the foot of the bed seemed to be moving away from him. He could not explain how in one instant he was conscious and lucid, and the next, groggy, disoriented, and weak. He fell onto his back and wondered why it was lighter than it should be. It appeared to be almost morning. Everything seemed different, foreign. His last thought was resignation that this must be his room.
He woke up in the morning. His memory of this event is disjointed and he cannot explain why. When he last saw the creature it was standing at the foot of his bed. He has a vivid, detailed memory of its face being so close to his that he could only see its right eye. Its face would have had to be almost touching his for this to have occurred. He never saw it move toward him. There was a time when a significant part of the bedroom ceiling appeared to be gone. Large undulating, blue tubes were where the ceiling should have been and their movement and height was well up beyond where the plane of the ceiling should have been. He failed to notice any relationship between that phenomenon and the display moving across the transparent panel. Like much of what happened that night, he may have been looking directly at it but did not see it happen. He has no explanation for those lapses.

In this video, a bright, white object can be seen hurtling through the air at breakneck pace. It was recorded on a CCTV camera on an industrial site in Prokopyevsky, Russia.
This clip shows a triangular shaped airborne object open fire on an insurgent position. Explosions can be seen and a huge plume of smoke soon rises up in to the sky.
A series of photographs showed a black, rotating object complete with a light in the skies above the capital. It later floated off in the direction of Highbury and Islington.

De afgelopen jaren heeft fotograaf Steven Hirsch zich verdiept in verhalen van mensen die zeggen contact te hebben met buitenaardse wezens. Van een aantal van hen maakte hij een portret. Hij kwam met het fenomeen in aanraking tijdens een conventie in de Amerikaanse staat Connecticut. “Het was een verbijsterende ervaring die me nog tientallen jaren is bijgebleven,” vertelde Hirsch aan nieuwssite Business Insider.

ABC 27 in Harrisburg reported on a UFO sighting in Lower Paxton Township Monday night. Resident Stephanie Wilkerson says she was enjoying a glass of wine when she spotted a strange light.
She told ABC 27, “I thought it was a plane until I realized it wasn’t moving. I watched it for about 20 minutes and I started noticing it changing colors.”
She called to her husband to come outside and also called a neighbor. She says her neighbor was amazed and got a pair of binoculars to get a closer look. At first the neighbor thought it was a planet, but he says it changed colors, turning yellow, which made him rule that out.

The almost complete set of pristine fossils were uncovered in May when Marty McEwen and his grandson Ethan Beasley were digging at the family business in Texas.
After Mr McEwen hit a 6ft-long (1.8m) tusk with an excavator, the pair alerted nearby palaeontologists who carefully removed layers of mud which are millennia old.

Experts believe the creature’s relatively small size – it would only have been around 9ft (2.7m) tall – shows it is a female mammoth.
Tom Vance, a palaeontologist from nearby Navarro College, Texas, believes the animal died after she fell on her left side.
Remarkably it appears as if the clearly visible skull, ribs and lower jaw have been relatively untouched bar a few missing leg bones.
Mr Vance said: ‘I am extremely excited about this outstanding find – it’s very unique for North Central Texas.

It is estimated that the skeleton could be between 20,000 and 60,000 years old. It will be transported to a permanent home at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas

To protect the precious fossil during this transition process, the museum and McEwen family have chosen not to disclose the excavation site.

‘This fossil is now part of the public trust, meaning scientists can describe it, study it, publish papers on it and display it from this time on.
‘Without their gift, this magnificent creature might have gone onto the auction block, never to be seen again.
Excavations conducted in a tomb in Casta, in ancient Amphipolis, have raised questions. The area is being guarded by the police while the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports is monitoring ongoing developments.
Archaeologists are wondering if they have discovered an ancient royal tomb. According to data presented by the department head of ancient monuments in northern Greece, Catherine Peristeri, excavations in Casta mound have revealed a unique world monument due to its size reaching a height of 3 meters and a total length of 497 meters.
The tomb dates back to 325-300 BC and reportedly bears the signature of famous ancient architect Dinocrates, a close friend of Alexander the Great.
According to Peristeri, major historical events had taken place in the area of Amphiboles during that period. Major generals and admirals of Alexander the Great are associated with the area, and it is there that in 311 BC Cassander exiled and then killed the wife of Alexander the Great, Roxanne, and his son, Alexander the Fourth.
The tomb consists of foundations, supporting columns, a top part and decorations of white marble from Thassos. It was destroyed during the Roman period and many architectural elements disappeared, some of which were discovered during excavations in the area where the famous Lion of Amphipolis is located.
Excavations in the mound of Amphipolis first started in the 1960s. Many have claimed that the tomb belongs to Alexander the Great. However, archaeologists and experts say that although the monument is really important, it is not attributed to him.
Samaras visits ancient Amphipolis Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, accompanied by his wife Georgia and Culture Minister Constantinos Tassoulas, is visiting the site of Ancient Amphipolis, in northern Greece. Samaras will also visit Kasta hill and will be guided through the ongoing archaeological excavation site.

Wilkerson says she then decided it was time to call the cops. An officer came by, and apparently he was also baffled by what he saw, especially after seeing the object move when he looked at it through the binoculars.
ABC 27 interviewed Lt. Gary Seefeldt of the Lower Paxton Township police, who said, “He went there, and apparently he saw them too. So he called his sergeant and his corporal to verify what he was seeing.”
The police called nearby Fort Indiantown Gap Army and National Guard post, and Harrisburg International Airport. Both said they had no aircraft activity in the area at that time.
The police wrote up an incident report, but were left baffled.
Seefeldt says, “Our officers saw something that was out of the ordinary for the night sky.”
ABC 27 reporter Mark Hall asked some of the neighbors if they had also seen the lights. He says one neighbor said her husband saw the “thing,” but thought it was a helicopter. Another neighbor said they saw the same “thing” Friday night.
Hall says for the most part, residents are not sure what that “thing” was they saw.
“All I know is I’m scared,” Wilkerson told Hall.
She says, “For me to see that, I am now a believer…in UFOs.”

Wetenschappers hebben voor het eerst waterwolken buiten ons zonnestelsel ontdekt. De wolken omringen een bruine dwerg op slechts 7,3 lichtjaar van de aarde. Het Jupiterachtige object is onlangs ontdekt met behulp van de WISE-telescoop. Dat meldt vakblad Science.
Op de bruine dwerg, WISE J0855-0714 genaamd, is het iets kouder dan op aarde: de temperatuur ligt er net onder het vriespunt. “Ik ben helemaal geobsedeerd door dit object,” zei astronoom Jacqueline Faherty van het Carnegie Instituut in Washington DC.
Het object is net zo groot als Jupiter en drie tot 10 keer zo zwaar. De bruine dwerg wordt niet verlicht door een zon en staat vlak bij ons: na Alpha Centauri, Ster van Barnard en Luhman 16 het dichtstbijgelegen stelsel.
Het object is klein en koud, waardoor het met behulp van sterrenwachten aan het aardoppervlak niet kon worden ontdekt. Drie avonden achtereen gebruikte Faherty de Magellan Baade-telescoop in Chili om infraroodfoto’s te maken van de bruine dwerg. “Ik ben helemaal in de wolken,” zei ze.
Haar team schrijft in The Astrophysical Letters dat de wolken rond de bruine dwerg niet alleen uit waterijs, maar ook uit natriumsulfide lijken te bestaan. “Dit is ongelooflijk interessant,” zei Jonathan Fortney van de Universiteit van Californië in Santa Cruz. Hij voegde toe dat dit het eerste bewijs is voor waterwolken buiten ons zonnestelsel.
In ons eigen zonnestelsel worden waterwolken alleen gezien op aarde en Mars. De reuzenplaneten Jupiter en Saturnus zijn zo koud dat er alleen ammoniawolken te zien zijn, terwijl de atmosfeer van Uranus en Neptunus het zicht belemmert.
Er werd eerder al waterdamp ontdekt in de atmosfeer van exoplaneten, maar waterwolken zijn een geheel nieuw fenomeen. Met instrumenten als de James Webb-ruimtetelescoop, die in 2018 gelanceerd moet worden, kan de ontdekking worden bevestigd.
A pilot and his co-pilot have spotted a mysterious orange and red glow over the Pacific Ocean.
The strange lights were spotted south of the Russian peninsula Kamchatka during the flight of a Boeing 747-8 from Hong Kong to Anchorage, Alaska.
And while no explanation has yet been given, it's thought that they may have originated from the explosion of a huge volcano under the surface of the ocean.

Dutch pilot JPC van Heijst explained on PBase how, five hours into the ten-hour flight, they spotted an intense flash of light like a lightning bolt, directed vertically up in the distance.
This was then followed by a deep red and orange glow 20 minutes later.
And the experience left van Heijst somewhat perturbed, owing to the lack of an explanation for what happened.
‘Last night over the Pacific Ocean, somewhere South of the Russian peninsula Kamchatka I experienced the creepiest thing so far in my flying career,’ he said.
There were no thunderstorms on their route or weather-radar, suggesting the lightning did not originate in a storm.
The glow is also a mystery; similar lights have been spotted from squid-fishing-boats, but van Heijst says this ‘would not make sense in this area’.
‘The closer we got, the more intense the glow became, illuminating the clouds and sky below us in a scary orange glow, in a part of the world where there was supposed to be nothing but water,’ he continued.
‘The only cause of this red glow that we could think of, was the explosion of a huge volcano just underneath the surface of the ocean, about 30 minutes before we overflew that exact position.’
He was then nervous of encountering an ash-plume in the middle of the night, but fortunately they did not encounter anything of the sort.
Before the flight they had heard via radio about earthquakes in Iceland, Chile and San Francisco.
But despite their being a few volcanoes on their route, they had had not been alerted to any new activity - although this doesn't necessarily include unseen underwater volcanoes.
WHAT CAUSED THIS MYSTERY GLOW?
After the initial vertical lightning bolt it was thought the phenomenon could have been a thunderstorm, but that was ruled out when none were reported in the area.
The predominant theory at the moment is that the lights were caused by an underwater volcano.
Such eruptions are not unprecedented; on 21 November 2013 an submarine volcano famously created a new 'island' off the coast of Japan.
Another explanation is they were caused by lights from fishing boats.
Last week astronaut Reid Riseman was left baffled by a similarly bizarre green flurry of lights (shown below) off the coast of Bangkok.
It is thought those lights were in fact created by fishing boats. The offshore illumination comes from enormous arrays of bright green LED lights used to attract squid and other sea life to the surface.
However that explanation has been ruled out for the latest mystery glow, as more than 50 boats would be needed to produce light of this magnitude - but no fleet of fishing boats was thought to be operating in the area.

Together with his co-pilot van Heijst says they felt ‘everything but comfortable’, while no other aircraft were nearby to confirm the sighting.
‘We reported our observations to Air Traffic Control and an investigation into what happened in this remote region of the ocean is now started,’ he added.
‘Now I'm just hoping that if a new island has been formed there [from the eruption], at least it can be named after me as the official discoverer.
‘That would be pretty cool!’

Around the Pacific Ocean is a region known as the Ring of Fire, where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur that may have been the origin of glow. The horseshoe shape is 25,000 miles (40,000 km) and, with 452 volcanoes, is home to more than 75 per cent of the planet's active and dormant volcanoes
