Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.
This is our new dog Kira, a cross between a water dog and a Podenko. She has been with us since February 7, 2024 and is busy winning our hearts. She is a sweet, affectionate dog who quickly adapted to us within a week. She is very quick and curious, a very different dog than Noleke.

"Of considerably greater interest from a long-term viewpoint would be fusion propulsion. Fusion is the nuclear process involving the combining of light nuclei to make heavier nuclei and, as in fission, convert a small amount of mass into a huge amount of energy. It is the primary process by which energy is produced in most stars and in so-called hydrogen bombs. Ellen Lloyd - MessageToEagle.com - The origin of the Ainu people in Japan is unknown. Although the word Ainu means "human", it has to be stated that these people speak a language that resembles no other language on Earth.
The great majority of the Ainu live on Japan's second largest island, the Hokkaido, but they also inhabit the Northern island of Hokkaido as well as the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin.
The Ainu people are unique in many ways. In contrast to the Mongoloid tribes of Far East, the Ainu are light-skinned, blond, their eyes are not slanted, and they often wear heavy wavy beards.
Scientists have no been able to determine where these people come from.
Some speculate that the Ainu are descendents from the same race as the native people of North America. Other scholars are of the opinion that they are primordial East Asian race, that gave rise to the Japanese themselves. A third and rather simple solution offered by the scholars is that the Ainu migrated from some eastern part of the world.
The ideas are many, but there is lack of evidence to support any of these claims.
Ainu are light-skinned. Some have red or brown hair and green or blue eyes.
The Ainu had no writing system but memorized their history and legends in never ending epic chant known as the Yukara. This kind of poetry was performed by Ainu professional memorymen with elaborate display and ritual.
Ainu culture has a rich oral tradition, complex religious views, beautiful art, and rituals intimately related to nature and the natural resources that sustained them.
To the Ainu, everything in the natural world represents a god or spirit that leaves the land of gods and takes on a physical form to visit the land of the Ainu.
Fire, mountains, valleys, the ocean, animals, plants, even tools and clothing the Ainu make and use, all are kamuy (gods).
It was believed that every day of life was made possible, and that peaceful harmonious life was ensured only by the gods' protection and supply to man of food for subsistence. Therefore, the Ainu dedicated various dances to the gods by holding various festivals that would enable families and "kotan " (villages) to live peacefully.
What do the Ainu themselves think about their true origins?
According to the Ainu themselves, their ancestors came from the heaven. Their god Okiki Rumi Kumi came down to Earth in a bright-lit shinta, which means, "cradle" in the language of Ainu. Ainu say that their god was a very good-hearted person who taught them the difference between right and wrong and instructed them in "the right way."
During his stay on Earth, he also helped the inhabitants to get rid off an evil demon.
Even today, in our modern times, when a cradle is built the Ainu always depict a Sun on its surface. It is because the Ainu believe their creators are from beyond the Sun. In other words, the Ainu say they are of extraterrestrial origin.
Ainu say some of their gods had blue skin.
Blue gods are usually associated with Hinduism, but interestingly, the Ainu also speak of blue gods. Did the same blue gods visit Japan? Discoveries made on the island indicate that Ainu had a connection with beings from another world. In a cave on Hokkaido have some interesting cave drawings been discovered, which are dated back to 2,000 BC.
One of these drawings depicts a man wearing an outsized headdress. He is raising his hands as if he wants to welcome the seven spheres, which hover in the air above his head.
Are the seven spheres a representation of the sevens sisters, the Pleiades or sevens UFOs visiting our planet in ancient times?
We do not know, but what we can say with certainty is that the true origins of the Ainu people still remain a big mystery.

Port Douglas is on yowie watch after a man reported a terrifying run-in with an unknown creature last week.
Sightings of yowies – or bunyips and quinkans, as they are known by Aboriginal people – have been reported since early European settlement and appear in ancient Australian cave paintings.
But Wonga Beach man Brad Brown is still shaken after his encounter last week with something resembling an ape.
“I was driving home from work about 10.30pm and I was on the Rocky Point range going around a bend when suddenly something ran in front of my car,” he said.
“I didn’t know what I saw, it was big and really hairy with an oblong-shaped head.
“Its arms were hanging behind it as it ran.”
In another incident just over a year ago, a Port Douglas man, who did not want to be named, said he and a mate still can’t explain what they saw.
“We were fishing at Mowbray (7km south of Port Douglas) about 2am,” he said.
“It was all quiet when suddenly we heard this noise. It was a noise I had never heard in my life – like a growl but not like any animal I know.
“I freaked out. I went to cut the line and actually cut my rod in half. I started the ute before my friend even moved.
“We reversed out as quick as we could onto the road and I had the spotlight on.
“Then suddenly it was on the bridge going very fast.
“It had dark brown hair, coarse and thick like a dog’s, its arms were flying behind it.
“When I got home, I locked the door and the made sure the kids were safe and locked in their rooms. My partner at the time didn’t quite believe me, but she could see something had rattled me.”

The Earth’s Magnetic Field Could Flip Within Our Lifetime
Earth’s magnetic field is constantly shifting, and roughly every 200,000 to 300,000 years it flips north and south completely. We’re currently overdue for a switcheroo—and scientists now say it could happen in a time as short as 100 years, potentially altering life in unexpected ways.
It was long thought that these reversals took as many as 7,000 years to completely switch, according to a 2004 study funded by the National Science Foundation. But over the past few years, other scientists have suggested that the shifts have occurred at speeds previously unimagined. And a brand-new study published in the Geophysical Journal International by a team of scientists from Europe and the U.S. sheds even more light on these speedy changes—suggesting that the last 180-degree flip only took about 100 years.
How did they discern changes in the magnetic field that date back hundreds of thousands of years? By testing layers of ash deposited by volcanic eruptions over the course of 10,000 years, found in a lakebed near Rome. According to a release from Berkeley, the magnetic field directions are “frozen” into these layers of ash, which could be reliably dated to find out when the reversals occurred and how long they took to complete. “We don’t know whether the next reversal will occur as suddenly as this one did, but we also don’t know that it won’t,” said Berkely’s Paul Renne, one of the study’s authors. Starr, SC – 10/13/2014: I was in my bedroom sleeping and awoke. I looked up and saw an 5ft being on my wife’s side of the bed. Greenish gray skin like a prune in texture with dark wrinkles, large white eyes with large black pupils. The head shape reminded me of a prune it had only molars and a dark colored robe.
I wasn’t frightened for some reason. I kept opening and closing my eyes to make sure of what I saw. On my side of the bed on the top of the wall and ceiling there was an spider like robot about 2 feet in diameter. I felt like it was some type of observation device. I wasn’t frightened of this ether. The being looked at me and moved its lower jaw and that is when i saw its teeth then they both slowly vanished away in a few seconds. Oddly i felt like i was sedated and fell back to sleep.

Italian Village Plagued by Mysterious Fires Has Been Puzzling Scientists for Years
For 10 years, the residents of the Sicilian village of Canneto di Caronia have been utterly spooked by hundreds of mysterious, unexplained fires that seem to erupt out of nowhere. The bizarre phenomenon, which has seen a sudden surge this year, includes spontaneous combustion of mattresses, beds, cars, and devices like fridges and mobile phones, even when switched off.
The episodes have attracted the attention of geologists, physicists and volcanologists for several years, but no one has been able to provide an accurate scientific explanation so far. Naturally, the villagers are blaming supernatural entities like UFOs, poltergeists, or other demonic forces. And with no other logical reason in sight, one tends to wonder if they actually might be right.
It all began in January 2004, when, without any apparent cause, appliances (including a cooker and a vacuum cleaner) in several houses began to catch fire. Wedding presents, random pieces of furniture, and even a water pipe erupted into flames. In response, the local electric company tried cutting off the power supply to Canneto, but that made no difference. The village was evacuated and a through investigation was conducted, but the experts and authorities simply failed to locate the problem.
Even with the arrival of volcanologists from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, and a team of experts from the Italian Navy, no viable solution was found. Understandably, the villagers were terrified, and a few of them even suggested calling in a priest to conduct an exorcism. Months went by, and a period of calm followed, when most of the villagers returned to their homes.
Unexplained fires still occur from time to time, and the villagers have pretty much learned to live with them. Other bizarre events have taken place as well – there were unexplained leaks from water pipes of three different houses, a vanity mirror in a bathroom caught fire three times in 35 hours, and an entire plantation of eggplants developed rainbow-like colors, making them unfit to be sold.
Air conditioners have spontaneously melted, car glasses have imploded, hard drives have been erased, automatic gates started opening and closing randomly, and animals have died mysteriously. Without any science to explain these events, it’s easy to see why the whole affair appears sinister. I’d be pretty terrified too if I were living in Canneto.
In April 2005, the Italian government created a special Task Force (of high-ranking army officers, engineers, architects, geologists and physicists) to investigate the situation in the sleepy little village. The group conducted an extensively thorough analysis – aerial photo-remote sensing, assessment of geophysical and geochemical data, detection of magnetometric and electromagnetic fields, radio-electric spectrum monitoring, and more. The results, however, were inconclusive.
In 2007, an Italian newspaper published a leaked interim report from the Civil Protection Department, concluding that the only plausible explanation was ‘aliens’, because the fires were ‘caused by high power electromagnetic emissions which were not man-made and reached a power of between 12 and 15 gigawatts’. A year later, the case was dismissed following further investigation – they just attributed it to an ‘unknown electromagnetic radiation’.
But in the absence of tangible evidence, people have returned to supernatural theories. Sicily’s council member for health and safety, Vittorio Alfieri, said in an interview that the fires were caused by ‘an entity’ that ‘transfers from one house to another’. “A house on the ground floor caught fire then it was the turn of objects on the first floor,” he said. “Consequently, the fire moved to a nearby house. It was like moving.”
Now, after a period of respite, the inexplicable fires have returned to plague the citizens of Canneto. On September 30th, a series of fires were reported throughout the otherwise peaceful settlement. First, a chair covered in cellophane caught fire for no apparent reason. Hours later, someone else called the fire department to report a stack of folded clothes had burst into flames, and then an entrepreneur who was getting ready to drive away in his car but returned to get something he had forgotten from the house, found his vehicle burning. A book and a sofa were also found scorched for no apparent reason in different areas of the town.
According to media reports, the locals have once again been evacuated, while a small team of fire fighters have been assigned to control the small fires.
Several fantastical theories exist – some have even gone as far as claiming that this could all be the work of a single individual who suffered strong emotional distress at a young age (a lot like Stephen King’s Carrie), and is now attracting the curiosity of UFOs. Peru: Greenish, Shapeshifting Object Over Peru Seen Two Days Earlier in Canada?
PERU – A few days ago, on October 5th, a woman witnessed an incredible sighting: a mysterious object hovering voer the skies of the Peruvian capital, Lima.
The UFO was greenish and changed shape. Sometimes it resembled a saucer, and at other moments it had an aspect similar to a “boomerang”. The witness thought she was seeing the maneuvers of a remotely guided airplane, but it had no intermittent lighting. Furthermore, a remotely-controlled airplane must have anti-collision lights, by law.
Two days earlier, during a live broadcast by TVA News, a Canadian network, a mysterious greenish object similar to this one appeared behind reporter Colette Provencher. Could it be the same object? The fact is that the mysterious object seen over Lima changed shape readily and was in a sky lit by a glowing moon.
It was an interesting article which I will post under my article on my blog however for me it was obvious that the flashes of light were part of the memory altering that takes place when humans are taken and abused by whatever or whoever is doing the abducting.
It is by no way a coincidence that human scientists are now using light in this way nor should we be surprised. I doubt there is anyone out there who does not at least suspect if not clearly know that the human race has been given or stolen a great deal of technology from the other life forms that have been visiting this planet most likely from the birth of the planet. Reading that a form of memory control and light is connected should have been obvious to me before. I laugh when I realize it was part of every Men in Black movie made. The fact they used the light flash may have been a joke on society placed in the movies by those who knew long ago that it was indeed the exact way our visitors control our memories.
I am sure there is a part of humanity, those elite few, who do know what is going on in this universe that know a great deal if not most of what happens to not only lost time abductees, but all those who are taken or have close encounters.
These elite few understand and freely approve of and go along with all types of abductions that take place to all the living creatures of earth including humans. The only ones kept in the dark are the mass of the world’s population that remain at the will and hands of the few and those who visit and do as they please with us.
At this point in my life I have learned by both research and personal experience that we know little yet live in a world filled with unknowns and unexplained events that we continue to ignore and let happen without questioning or are even normally curious about.
I believe in many things that seem impossible as I have lived and witnessed the impossible first hand. I also know we are being walked down a dishonest path by the powers that control this planet and realize we are simple pawns in a game none of us have any idea is being played out much less understanding.

Sherry and I have found this a consistent factor in our own research. Sherry, herself of Swedish/Chippewa heritage, has been privileged to spend time with Hopi Elders and such Medicine teachers as Rolling Thunder. I was initiated into the Seneca Wolf Clan Teaching Lodge, and I appropriated the name for our Star People research from the Chippewa legends that told of beings who descended in Sky Baskets to take of themselves husbands and wives from the Native American tribes.
In 1971, James C. Wyatt of Memphis, Tennessee, sent me a copy of his grandfather's journal which contained fascinating and startling entries, written in straightforward fashion, which, appears to indicate that an association between Bigfoot-type creatures and UFOs has existed for quite some time.
In a journal dated 1888, Wyatt's grandfather records that he was somewhere along the Humboldt Line in the “Big Woods Country” where his father and several cowhands had wintered with a local tribe after delivering some cattle to a fort further north. Grandfather Wyatt was fluent in many tribal languages, proficient in sign language, and partook of most of the tribal activities.
One day he came upon a man from the tribe carrying a large platter of raw meat.
At first the man seemed afraid to answer Wyatt's questions concerning his errand, but he finally bade the cattleman to follow him.
In a shallow cave in a cliff face dwelt a beast with long, shiny black hair that covered its entire body, except for its palms and an area around its eyes. The humanlike creature did not seem wild or vicious; it sat cross–legged, Indian-style, to wolf the raw meat. Wyatt described the creature as built like a big, well-developed man, except for its lack of neck and its long body hair. The creature's head seemed to rest directly on its shoulders.
Wyatt visited the man-beast in the cave more than a dozen times. After much questioning, and receiving two pounds of tobacco, a compass, and an axe, one of the men from the tribe took Wyatt to a high pinnacle of rock one clear night to tell him of the creature's origin.
“Crazy Bear,” as the thing was called by the Indians, had been brought to the “Big Woods” from the stars. A “small moon” had flown down like a swooping eagle and had landed on a plateau a few miles away from the tribe's encampment. The beast in the cave and two other “crazy bears” had been flung out of the “moon” before the craft had once again soared off to the stars.
The man told Wyatt that other “crazy bears” had been left in the vicinity over the years. Wyatt's guide and several of his fellow villagers had occasionally seen the “men” who put the crazy bears off the small moons. They did, nor look like the giant hairy ones, but appeared to be more like men such as themselves. The men from the small moon had much shorter hair than the tribespeople, though, and they wore shiny clothing. They always waved to the Indians in a friendly manner before they closed the door in their small moon and flew back to the stars.
The crazy bears had been led to the village by the Indians, and at no time had the hairy giants offered any resistance to their benefactors. The Indians believed that the crazy bears from the stars had been sent to bring them powerful medicine, and they would not permit the creatures to stray away lest they be captured by rival tribes.
In a lengthy letter to me, James Wyatt speculated: “Who is to say the Crazy Bears weren't exiled to our planet for some crime or other infraction of the laws of another planet [or dimension, we might add]?
“On the other hand, it is not inconceivable that the hairy ones are the food animals of some distant world and have been planted here on Earth to produce herds, just as the old shipmasters used to place pigs and goats on islands to multiply and furnish food for later voyagers.
“That they have not proliferated in great numbers may be due to their inability to provide for themselves, especially if they have been kept as produce animals for generations.
“Or, perhaps, the climate, the atmosphere, or the food available to them is against their best survival purposes. Who knows?”
Who, indeed? I do know that I have spent nearly 50 years attempting to find out. After researching the possible connection between Bigfoot and UFOs for nearly five decades, I am left with no clear conclusion, but I have come strongly to doubt if Bigfoot even exists as a physical entity. If we should arrive at some kind of compromise that the creature fits into some category of beingness, then I would tend to argue that the shaggy monsters are more likely to be multidimensional interlopers and that there is a direct tie between UFO's and Bigfoot.
In recent years a good many UFOlogists have argued the possibility that the mysterious giant bipeds, the “crazy bears” that haunt our woods could be experimental creatures from spacecraft left loose on Earth. It may be a bit unnerving to suggest that Bigfoot may be the property of some other-dimensional interlopers. By the same token, so may we fit into a similar category–and I find that infinitely more unnerving.
A flash of light in northern Brazil was so bright that it illuminated the sky, temporarily making the dark night sky as bright as day.

The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, October 15 in Brazil’s Recife region. At approximately 10:20 p.m., witnesses saw a UFO streaking through the sky. As many as ten traffic cameras captured the event. And these videos show the object exploding with an impressive multi-colored light show, filling the sky with blue, pink, purple and red light.

Perplexed and worried witnesses posted photos to social media looking for answers to explain what they had seen. “The flash lasted about five seconds with intense light coming from the object. It was beautiful!” one witness posted to the Recife Astronomy Society Facebook page. “A flaming ball broke apart as it fell towards the ground.”
Although the intense explosions of color shown on some of the videos strongly resemble an exploding electrical transformer, experts from the Recife Astronomy Society believe the spectacular light show was caused by “a meteor falling from a meteor shower,” according to the Mirror.
Ten West Virginia witnesses near Marmet working a coal plant evening shift reported watching three triangle-shaped UFOs the size of football fields silently moving under 500 feet, according to testimony in Case 60631 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The incident occurred at 10 p.m. on October 12, 2014, at the coal plant along Winifrede Hollow Road.

“The plant was down and there was no noises anywhere,” the reporting witness stated. “Me and nine other guys had just finished doing pipe repair and were standing outside leaning against trucks. One of the guys pointed up and said, ‘What is that?’”

The group of workers looked up to see the first object.
“We all looked up and saw a triangle-shaped object outlined in white lights the size of a football field coming up the hollow from the southwest [Beckley, WV area]. It might have been 300 to 500 feet above us. It was moving very slow and made no noise. We watched for about 3 or 4 minutes as it disappeared over the trees.”
The group watched as two more objects appeared.
“A few minutes later another one showed up behind it – the same shape and size and no noise. Another one showed up after that, same as before.”
Then a smaller fourth object was seen.
“After these three went by a small object with lots of red flashing appeared at the end of the line formation. They were all headed northwest towards Charleston, WV.”
The witnesses were amazed that there was no sound.

Veel aandacht voor een mysterieus object dat twee astronauten tijdens een ruimtewandeling in de gaten lijkt te houden. De beelden, die zijn gemaakt door NASA, tonen een ‘UFO’ in de buurt van het internationale ruimtestation ISS.
In het filmpje van vijf minuten, dat op YouTube is geplaatst, zijn astronauten Reid Wiseman en Alexander Gerst van de Europese ruimtevaartorganisatie ESA te zien. Het tweetal voerde een aantal reparaties uit.
Vijf seconden lang is op de achtergrond een mysterieus vaartuig te zien. Kort daarvoor was het object nog niet waarneembaar. NASA heeft nog niet gereageerd op de waarneming.
Wiseman en Gerst verplaatsten een kapotte koelingspomp en werkten aan een robotarm. Woensdag gingen Reid Wiseman en Butch Wilmore de deur uit om reparaties te verrichten. Ze hebben een spanningsregelaar en een camera vervangen. Door de reparatie moet het volledige elektrische vermogen van het ISS worden hersteld.
De regelaar ging in mei al kapot, maar door problemen met de ruimtepakken werden er ruim een jaar geen ruimtewandelingen gemaakt die niet strikt noodzakelijk waren.
Volgende week staat er voor de kosmonauten Maxim Suraev en Alexander Samokutyaev een klus buiten de deur op het programma. De twee Russen gaan niet langer gebruikte onderdelen verwijderen en foto’s maken van de buitenkant van het ISS.

Roswell was not aliens - it was the Nazis, according to a German documentary
The Roswell Incident was reported on July 8 1947 in the town of the same name in New Mexico.
Initially thought to be the crash landing of a flying saucer, military authorities later said it was a downed weather balloon, but conspiracy theorists down the years have always insisted that the military was covering up an alien visitation.
But now a documentary entitled 'UFOs in the Third Reich' claims the incident was linked to testing of the 'Bell,' a copper coloured aircraft three metres in diameter, the core of which was a futuristic propulsion unit using electric particles.
The documentary screened on the N24 channel claims the craft was the forerunner of the Stealth fighter of today and was crafted by scores of V2 rocket experts who were spirited to America at the end of the war to give the USA the edge over the Soviet Union in rocket technology.
One of them was allegedly a mass Nazi killer, S.S. general Hans Kammler was head of construction and defence projects´in the Third Reich and as such planned the forced labour factories at Auschwitz and the secret V-2 rocket plants inside Germany.
The German documentary draws on a vast wealth of archival material. One of the experts is Igor Witkowski, a Polish former journalist and historian of military and aerospace technology.
In his book, 'Prawda O Wunderwaffe' in 2000, he wrote extensively of the "bell-shaped craft" that was being created by the Nazis, and that Hitler wanted the best scientists and engineers at his disposal.
German engineer Georg Klein claimed that such designs had been developed uring the Third Reich.
Klein, who went on to have a distinguished postwar career as an aeronautical engineer, said; "I don't consider myself a crackpot or eccentric or someone given to fantasies.
"This is what I saw, with my own eyes; a Nazi UFO."
British and American bomber crews, who ranged free in the skies over Germany towards the end of the war to deliver their lethal cargoes, also reported strange sightings over enemy territory when debriefed back at their bases - now thought to have been test flights of the Bell.
The programme explores the possibility that the Roswell Incident may have been the crash of another Nazi-era flying saucer known the Schriever-Habermohl model.
Rudolf Schriever was an engineer and test pilot, Otto Habermohl an engineer.
This project was centred in Prague between 1941 and 1943, but the plans for it was taken to America at war's end.
Initially a Luftwaffe project, it eventually fell under the auspices of armaments minister Albert Speer before being taken over once again in 1944 by Kammler.

A team led by astronomers from the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy has created the first three-dimensional map of the 'adolescent' Universe, just 3 billion years after the Big Bang. This map, built from data collected from the W. M. Keck Observatory, is millions of light-years across and provides a tantalizing glimpse of large structures in the 'cosmic web' – the backbone of cosmic structure.
On the largest scales, matter in the Universe is arranged in a vast network of filamentary structures known as the 'cosmic web', its tangled strands spanning hundreds of millions of light-years. Dark matter, which emits no light, forms the backbone of this web, which is also suffused with primordial hydrogen gas left over from the Big Bang. Galaxies like our own Milky Way are embedded inside this web, but fill only a tiny fraction of its volume.
Now a team of astronomers led by Khee-Gan Lee, a post-doc at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, has created a map of hydrogen absorption revealing a three-dimensional section of the universe 11 billions light years away – the first time the cosmic web has been mapped at such a vast distance. Since observing to such immense distances is also looking back in time, the map reveals the early stages of cosmic structure formation when the Universe was only a quarter of its current age, during an era when the galaxies were undergoing a major 'growth spurt'.
The map was created by using faint background galaxies as light sources, against which gas could be seen by the characteristic absorption features of hydrogen. The wavelengths of each hydrogen feature showed the presence of gas at a specific distance from us. Combining all of the measurements across the entire field of view allowed the team a tantalizing glimpse of giant filamentary structures extending across millions of light-years, and paves the way for more extensive studies that will reveal not only the structure of the cosmic web, but also details of its function – the ways that pristine gas is funneled along the web into galaxies, providing the raw material for the formation of galaxies, stars, and planets.

Using the light from faint background galaxies for this purpose had been thought impossible with current telescopes – until Lee carried out calculations that suggested otherwise. To ensure success, Lee and his colleagues obtained observing time at Keck Observatory, home of the two largest and most scientifically productive telescopes in the world.
Although bad weather limited the astronomers to observing for only 4 hours, the data they collected with the LRIS instrument was completely unprecedented. "We were pretty disappointed as the weather was terrible and we only managed to collect a few hours of good data. But judging by the data quality as it came off the telescope, it was clear to me that the experiment was going to work," said Max Plank's Joseph Hennawi, who was part of the observing team.
"The data were obtained using the LRIS spectrograph on the Keck I telescope," Lee said. "With its gargantuan 10m-diameter mirror, this telescope effectively collected enough light from our targeted galaxies that are more than 15 billion times fainter than the faintest stars visible to the naked eye. Since we were measuring the dimming of blue light from these distant galaxies caused by the foreground gas, the thin atmosphere at the summit of Mauna Kea allowed more of this blue light to reach the telescope and be measured by the highly sensitive detectors of the LRIS spectrograph. The data we collected would have taken at least several times longer to obtain on any other telescope."
Their absorption measurements using 24 faint background galaxies provided sufficient coverage of a small patch of the sky to be combined into a 3D map of the foreground cosmic web. A crucial element was the computer algorithm used to create the 3D map: due to the large amount of data, a naïve implementation of the map-making procedure would require an inordinate amount of computing time. Fortunately, team members Casey Stark and Martin White (UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab) devised a new fast algorithm that could create the map within minutes. "We realized we could simplify the computations by tailoring it to this particular problem, and thus use much less memory. A calculation that previously required a supercomputer now runs on a laptop", says Stark.

The W. M. Keck Observatory operates the largest, most scientifically productive telescopes on Earth. The two, 10-meter optical/infrared telescopes near the summit of Mauna Kea on the Island of Hawaii feature a suite of advanced instruments including imagers, multi-object spectrographs, high-resolution spectrographs, integral-field spectroscopy and world-leading laser guide star adaptive optics systems.
The Low Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (LRIS) is a very versatile visible-wavelength imaging and spectroscopy instrument commissioned in 1993 and operating at the Cassegrain focus of Keck I. Since it has been commissioned it has seen two major upgrades to further enhance its capabilities: addition of a second, blue arm optimized for shorter wavelengths of light; and the installation of detectors that are much more sensitive at the longest (red) wavelengths. Each arm is optimized for the wavelengths it covers. This large range of wavelength coverage, combined with the instrument's high sensitivity, allows the study of everything from comets (which have interesting features in the ultraviolet part of the spectrum), to the blue light from star formation, to the red light of very distant objects. LRIS also records the spectra of up to 50 objects simultaneously, especially useful for studies of clusters of galaxies in the most distant reaches, and earliest times, of the universe.
Travis Walton’s alleged UFO sighting and subsequent abduction, is one of the strangest, most credible, and most famous alien abduction stories. His experiences were the focus of the 1993 movie Fire in the Sky. Now, 39 years after the event, Walton is inviting the public to join him for a nighttime sky watch at the site where it all went down.

Walton says, “I am kind of nervous about it, because it is the first time I go back on the site at night.”
He is right to be nervous, because the events that he and his six fellow crew members describe are quite frightful. In a nutshell, the men say they saw a bright light in the forest that they believed to be a fire. They rushed to the site only to find a large metallic disc-shaped object hovering above the forest floor.
Walton, being a bit of a show-off, ran off to get a closer look, despite his friends calling for him to get back into the truck. The object shot out some kind of beam at him, and Walton flew several feet in the air. Believing him to be dead, and scared out of their wits, his co-workers took off.
Once they came to their senses, they went back for Walton, but he was gone. They reluctantly reported the incident to the police, who thought they had actually killed Walton and made up the UFO story as a cover.
Walton was gone for several days, and everyone believed him to dead, when he ended up calling his family from a pay phone near where the UFO was seen. He had thought only a few hours had passed. Walton later remembered strange events taking place while he was gone. He seemed to be aboard the craft they had seen in the forest. Although what he experienced had similarities to other alien abduction accounts, Walton says he can’t say for sure he had any interaction with extraterrestrial beings. For obvious reasons, Walton says he avoided the UFO site for many years. He says he went back during the day at the request of a TV show, because he felt “There is safety in numbers, at least the allusion of safety.”
As for nighttime visits, Walton says, “I was there one time at night with National Geographic, but other than that I steer clear of there.”
Walton says the few times he has visited the site since 1975, he has not experienced anything too unusual.
He says, “The weirdest one was when I went back after the forest fire had moved through. They closed out the woods and shut down the roads and didn’t want anyone going in there. But as soon as it opened up, me and my son went out on my motorcycle, and strangely enough, right when we got to the Turkey Spring contract area the motorcycle just cut off like you turned the switch off.”
Walton says they hid the bike behind some bushes and walked around. When they returned to the motorcycle, it started right up and he has had no problems with it since.
There has been some investigation done in the area to look for physical traces left in the area. He says researchers have found that the trees near where the UFO was seen do show accelerated growth during the time of the sighting. He says he has been told it is similar to that which has been recorded due to radiation. Trees in the area which had fallen prior to the UFO event do not show the same effect.
The sky watch event will be held on the anniversary of the UFO event, which was November 5, 1975. This year November 5, falls on a Wednesday night. It will be hosted by Ben Hansen, co-host of SyFy’s Fact or Faked. He will be bringing night vision equipment from his company Night Vision Ops. The next day there will be a press conference at the Holbrook County Courthouse with some of the crew members who saw the UFO in 1975, and the son of the man who owned the local newspaper.
All of this is part of the pre-conference events taking place before the Skyfire Summit that weekend in Overgaard, AZ, near the UFO site. Walton is helping to organize the conference which is focused around his experiences.
Walton says the conference was not his idea. He was approached by a man who offered to sponsor it, and talked him into it. Walton says at first he thought it would be too much work, but then he says he “got to thinking.”
Walton explained, “Once I had given a talk at the local college here and we had standing room only. People in this area are really hungry to get the real facts, and they need an education. So that’s the thrust of the conference. The speakers I chose, and the topics I signed are designed to be kind of the foundation. The ground floor of sort of a Ufology 101.”
He envisions the conference as his opportunity to educate the people in the area where the UFO event took place, and the place he still calls home. In fact, he says almost all of the witnesses to the event still live in the area. It is also a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend time at ground zero of one of the most compelling UFO stories with a man who may have spent several days aboard an alien spacecraft.
Open Minds will be there with our cameras. If we all get abducted we’ll catch it all on video. Although, Walton says he hopes that doesn’t happen.
Either way, we will get some interviews and footage for those of you who can’t make it, and those of you who are too scared to make it. But for those of you who are adventurous, come and join us. A German witness recalls an incident that occurred at the former Kriegsfeld Army Depot that housed nuclear weapons, according to testimony in Case 60648 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was on guard duty Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1982, in tower #5 in what was then West Germany.
“I observed a very dark triangular-shaped craft fly from the southwest over the valley, over the town of Gerbach, and directly over my watch tower flying in a northwest direction,” the witness stated. “I observed the craft for over 10 minutes as I picked it out over the horizon to the southwest.”
Spotting aircraft was a common event.
“It was a natural occurrence to see military aircraft on a normal basis during hours of daylight. I often observed A-10, F-4f, F-111 and OV-10 aircraft in the area and was quite familiar with all military aircraft of the era. It was a hobby for me to watch aircraft and could easily identify aircraft by sight and often just by the noise of their engines.”
But this object was different.
“This dark aircraft peaked my attention because it was flying very slowly and very straight. It was normal to see the aircraft that flew in that area to have some movement, however slight on all three axis of movement. This unknown craft flew as if it were on rails – slow, steady with no appreciable movement outside of the northwest direction of travel until it actually flew above me.”
The witness estimated the object’s distance.
“I would estimate that due to the height of my watch tower and the location of the Army depot on the highest hill in the area and perched at the edge of the hill where I could observe the valley that stretched out in front of me that I first saw the aircraft at least 15 km distant to me, possibly even further. It took at least 7 to 10 minutes for the craft to fly that distance until it was directly above me.”
The witness took a position to see the object better.
“As it flew directly overhead, I stepped out onto the tower landing with M-16 in hand and looked straight up at this object. I could not identify its manufacture as any aircraft I had ever seen. It made no noise of any type. I noticed a marked absence of noise of any kind at that moment.”
The witness noticed odd effects as part of the sighting.
“I later thought of it as a type of tunnel vision as I was concentrating so hard to identify the craft. The other notable event that no aircraft could do was as it flew directly over me. As it passed over, the craft rotated 360 degrees nose down. It pointed directly at me during this 360 degree rotation. It ended up pointing in the same direction it had originally been pointing after this 360 degree nose-down rotation. I must also note that the aircraft at no time lost its forward momentum of travel while undergoing this maneuver. I had the overwhelming feeling that it was acknowledging my presence with this maneuver or was ‘checking me out’ as it did it.”
The object moved away from the base.
“The craft continued in the northeast direction and made a slight direction change to the north that would have taken it over another ‘non-nuclear’ depot just up the road.”
The witness did not report the incident at the time.
“Because of my security clearance and status under the personal reliability program I just buried the incident and didn’t report it to anyone. I can only presume the other Military Policemen in towers 2, 3 and 4 either suppressed their sighting of the aircraft for the same reasons as I or they did not observe the craft because they were asleep. It was not uncommon for guards to sleep in the towers. The morale of the unit was very low and the duties there were tedious and at time quite harsh.”
A recent television show caused the witness to think about the incident and then file a report.
“I had long forgotten the incident until watching a program on the History Channel when the sighting in Brussels was brought up. I know aircraft very well and can easily identify types and makes visually. This was no aircraft known to me. It flew too perfectly. Had no noise of any kind and performed a 360 degree nose-over roll without any loss to forward momentum or altitude. It has been many years but I am sure I could trace the flight path over a map of the area. The Army depot is still there. It has been converted into a windmill power station now.”
