NASA astronauts who have bravely violated nondisclosure agreements to discuss the technologies of the alien craft that almost all of them have encountered during the course of their missions are patently dismissed .

Military  movies and still photos taken by gun cameras from aircraft around the globe provide irrefutable evidence but debunkers argue the reality of alien technology and visitations.



People have  hubris to deny that many alien races visit Earth and suggest instead that we and our military are the sole creators of the craft that  violate us and the nightly airspace of our world, a  hubris, of arrogance from "wannabees," as in "I wanna be the ONLY one."

Many Worlds, Interacting

Quantum mechanics, though firmly tested, is so weird and anti-intuitive that famed physicist Richard Feynman once remarked, “I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics.” Attempts to explain some of the bizarre consequences of quantum theory have led to some mind-bending ideas, such as the Copenhagen interpretation and the many-worlds interpretation.

Now there’s a new theory on the block, called the “many interacting worlds” hypothesis (MIW), and the idea is just as profound as it sounds. The theory suggests not only that parallel worlds exist, but that they interact with our world on the quantum level and are thus detectable. Though still speculative, the theory may help to finally explain some of the bizarre consequences inherent in quantum mechanics, reports RT.com.

The theory is a spin-off of the many-worlds interpretation in quantum mechanics — an idea that posits that all possible alternative histories and futures are real, each representing an actual, though parallel, world. One problem with the many-worlds interpretation, however, has been that it is fundamentally untestable, since observations can only be made in our world. Happenings in these proposed “parallel” worlds can thus only be imagined.

MIW, however, says otherwise. It suggests that parallel worlds can interact on the quantum level, and in fact that they do.

“The idea of parallel universes in quantum mechanics has been around since 1957,” explained Howard Wiseman, a physicist at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, and one of the physicists to come up with MIW. “In the well-known ‘Many-Worlds Interpretation’, each universe branches into a bunch of new universes every time a quantum measurement is made. All possibilities are therefore realised – in some universes the dinosaur-killing asteroid missed Earth. In others, Australia was colonised by the Portuguese.”

“But critics question the reality of these other universes, since they do not influence our universe at all,” he added. “On this score, our “Many Interacting Worlds” approach is completely different, as its name implies.”

Wiseman and colleagues have proposed that there exists “a universal force of repulsion between ‘nearby’ (i.e. similar) worlds, which tends to make them more dissimilar.” Quantum effects can be explained by factoring in this force, they propose.

Whether or not the math holds true will be the ultimate test for this theory. Does it or does it not properly predict quantum effects mathematically? But the theory is certain to provide plenty of fodder for the imagination.

For instance, when asked about whether their theory might entail the possibility that humans could someday interact with other worlds, Wiseman said: “It’s not part of our theory. But the idea of [human] interactions with other universes is no longer pure fantasy.”

UFOs: Spy satellites or visitors from far-away galaxies?

It was 1964. Late at night. The Northern California man had lost his hunting buddies in the woods near Lake Tahoe and climbed a tree to sleep.

Awakened by a glowing object landing on a nearby ridge, the man was soon fighting for his life against two neckless creatures and a robot before the beings emitted a noxious gas and knocked him out.

A tall tale? Drunken binge? Drug-induced hallucination (it was the '60s, after all)? No matter. That Placer County UFO sighting and thousands more were studiously collected and meticulously researched as part of the Air Force's strange, long-shuttered Project BLUE BOOK, a government program on the hunt for little green men -- or perhaps Soviet spies; no one is saying for sure.

For 22 years, the military seemed to spare little expense in chronicling humans' reported otherworldly encounters with glowing orbs, spinning spheres, flying ice cream cones, and more.

All of it had been hidden away in archive files until a UFO enthusiast posted 130,000 documents worth of BLUE BOOK material in a free online database for the first time last month. Dozens of Bay Area close encounters were included in the trove.

The project launched in 1947, two years after the end of World War II and just as the Cold War was gearing up. It concluded in 1969 without offering definitive proof of either aliens visiting Mother Earth or advanced spycraft launched by our enemies. But the goldmine of reports -- witness names redacted -- provides a snapshot of a nervous, suspicious era that drove our government to consider even the most fanciful reports.

"UFO investigations were taken very seriously," said Alejandro Rojas, editor of Open Minds magazine, who points to a 1947 report of an unidentified flying object near Mt. Rainier in Washington by private pilot Kenneth Arnold as the mother of modern UFO sightings.

"He was a credible person, and it hit the press and became a really, really big story," Rojas said.

Add a dash of post-war paranoia, and the Air Force dove in head first, he said.

"The public's imagination went wild with (UFOs)," agreed Jeff Underwood, historian of the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. "It was a serious attempt to find if there was any validity to a UFO crisis or just mass hysteria.

"For the Air Force, it was driven more over concerns the Soviets created a super secret weapon than if there were little green men," he said.

In the end, many of the more than 12,000 sightings diligently investigated by the Air Force were chalked up to weather phenomena, meteors, satellites, a bright planet, balloons, birds or overactive imaginations.

The latter category would seem to fit the story told in 1964 by the lost hunter near Lake Tahoe, who swore he spent the night in a tree, firing arrows at three white "robot"-looking creatures, setting scraps of his clothing afire and hurling the pieces at the glowing aliens below.

Although the BLUE BOOK documents suggest the military's time commitment was considerable, it wasn't enough to please everyone. In 1966, then-Michigan congressman and future president Gerald Ford complained that the Air Force was dismissing scores of UFO sightings from his constituents as "swamp gas," and called for a Congressional inquiry into the phenomena.

He wasn't the only famous politician to get an earful from his constituents about UFOs. In a letter to President John F. Kennedy, 63-year-old Alice Reynolds of San Mateo said she was out feeding bread to the birds when she saw two stationary white balls, one with a tail, in the early morning sky on Nov. 13, 1961.

She complained that she tried to contact the Civil Defense Control Center in Belmont, but it wasn't open, so she called the police: "They were more curious as to why I (was) up at that time than what I called about," she wrote to the president.

The UFO witnesses ranged from grandmothers to amateur astronomers and even military pilots, who should have known a weather balloon when they saw one.

Several reports included sketches, charts and purported photographs of the objects.

Bay Area newspapers had a field day with one mysterious craft spotted by dozens of people as it drifted over the region on Feb. 7, 1950, including two nurses who swore they were "non-drinkers."

"Flying 'Ice Cream Cone' Reported Over Alameda," a San Francisco Chronicle headline screamed. The article featured a cartoon drawing of the flying confection with a Navy officer looking through binoculars yelling "Vanilla!" while a young boy said: "I say it's chocolate!"

A San Jose man eventually wrote to the Air Force explaining that his own close look at the object revealed a single-engine airplane with a reddish vapor trail behind it. Mystery solved, concluded investigators.

Popular culture drove the reports, Underwood said, and it ultimately slowed them down in the late 1960s.

"As soon as Star Trek started, I lost interest in UFOs," he laughed.

He wasn't alone. On Dec. 17, 1969, the Air Force terminated the project, citing conclusions from a University of Colorado report titled, "Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects." Researchers determined there was no threat to national security, additional scientific knowledge or extraterrestrial vehicles uncovered by Project BLUE BOOK. However, 701 sightings remain "unidentified."

‘Alien’ Image Raises Questions of the Terrestrial Kind

There has been a lot of buzz in recent weeks about what are being called “the Roswell slides,” a series of Kodachrome images recovered by a group of UFO researchers that include Don Schmitt, Tom Carey and Adam Dew. The images purportedly show an extraterrestrial biological entity, and there are some insinuations (well, several) that the creature is also somehow related to the Roswell Incident of 1947, and that the film stock matches the same period.

Among the recent announcements about this strange affair is that a press conference will be held in May that will feature the images publicly, along with more details about their backstory and possible implications.

Even more recently, however, one of the purported images has now appeared online, as my colleague Nick Redfern had pointed out in an article featured here at MU, where he offered only this on the matter:

• “Of course, now, and as of a couple of days ago, you can see one of the images right here. What it shows, I don’t know. Many who have looked at it are underwhelmed. From what I see too, I can’t say I’m particularly excited either.”

I certainly don’t mean to be unfairly critical of the matter, since I don’t have the full back story on it at present, and few of us in the research community will have that story, apart from those directly involved with the purported “find”, at least until later this year.

However, if I had to base my expectations on the history of claims very similar to these–and their obvious dubious nature–I would have to agree with Nick that this is not particularly exciting. If anything, I would say that if the photo linked above (in Nick’s excerpt) is indeed one of the slides the group will be showcasing in May, then I am already beyond skeptical.

Now let me explain why.

The comments thread on the post Nick links to (which takes us to the UFO Conjecture(s) blog) also includes a link to a German language forum, which includes the original photo from which the “alien” image was taken. That image is a still capture from a trailer that had already been circulating the web, which actually depicts one of the slides in question as it is being examined (that image also presents a better context for the otherwise blurry image of the supposed “alien”, and I recommend viewing it here if you haven’t seen it already).

Looking at the image, the first thing I thought of (despite the blurriness of the picture) had been that the body of the purported “alien” bears strong resemblance to a child born with hydrocephalus, an abnormal condition where the amount of cerebrospinal fluid flowing to the brain increases, either due to the brain producing too much of it, or perhaps due to a blockage, or an absorption problem with the blood vessels in the region of the body. This often leads to swelling of the brain, and thus, an enlarged cranium with the infants in question (although the condition is not exclusive to infancy).

An undated photograph (described only as “very old”) from the archives of the University of Rochester shows a more extreme example of the condition in an infant, as depicted at the Wikipedia entry for Hydrocephalus:

An online image search will offer even more extreme examples of the condition than what we’ve featured above, but for illustrative purposes this image does give readers an idea of the physical appearance of an infant afflicted with the condition.

One thing we know about the purported “Roswell slides”, as written about by researcher Kevin Randle, is that there are still questions about who took the photos, and where… but that, at very least, the names of the individuals who had owned the images are indeed well known. Randle notes:

• Tom (Carey) says something that I’m not sure he is going to be able to retreat from and I’m surprised that it was in the video clip. He said, “…We don’t know where the picture was taken. It’s taken indoors [so Ray or whoever, didn’t stumble across the body in the desert]… We don’t know exactly what circumstances the photographer was being a part of to take those pictures.”
• They don’t know who took the pictures, only that they were found as a house was being prepared for an estate sale. The house had been owned by Bernerd and Hilda Ray and was in a collection of slides from the late 1940s and 1950s. They don’t seem to know who took the pictures or when they were taken or how Ray ended up with them and with that, the trail grows cold.

Coming back to the article at the UFO Conjecture(s) blog that features the photo, another commenter on the thread below the image notes something that is very interesting, although little background data is presented to support it. Nonetheless, I feel it is relevant to the present controversy, and submit it now for the reader’s consideration:

• Hi, this is a photograph taken at a local museum in Colombia. The Rays were great travelers. We see the leg and the bottom of the skirt of a woman in the reflection of the glass. The arms of the creature are short, it is probably a child. It is well known that the EBE arms are long and come up to the knees. It is also possible that these two photographs have never been discovered in the trunk in the attic, but adds after. Moreover if we removed the idea that these two photographs were hidden in the lining of the chest, it completely changes the interest of this story. These are just pictures of the trip.

Colombia is cited as the (very general) location here, due to the belief that Bernard and Hilda Ray, whose former home had been the source of the discovery of these slides, had been travelers who might have visited a museum in that country, or perhaps some other country in Latin America, during the 1940s or 50s. Similar discussions about this possible connection have been brought up in commentaries that appear at the Paracast Forums, as well as an update that appeared on Tuesday, again at Kevin Randle’s blog. In that post, Randle features comparisons with a small human body provided to him by Gilles Fernandez, which “shows a small body that looks similar to that in the slide.”

Honestly, the image we have of the purported “alien” which researchers Schmitt, Carey and others are touting as final “proof” of an extraterrestrial body found at Roswell appears to be anything but. There is no need for harsh criticism here, although in the opinion of this researcher, a few questions that follow philosophical logic are warranted:

1) How can anything appearing solely in a series of photographs, without a physical specimen to match, offer “proof” that would meet the requirements of science? No biologist, chemist, or physicist would look at a photograph–blurry or not–as being representative of good, physical evidence.

2) Much like the argument with regard to the “Atacama Humanoid” featured in Stephen Greer’s documentary Sirius, how would anything that was discovered on Earth, let alone something  so obviously resembling mummified human remains, offer “proof” of extraterrestrials? What evidence can conclusively present any connection between the two? At least with “Ata,” we had a physical specimen (Note that, as many reading this will already be aware, the Atacama humanoid was proven, despite apparent anomalies, to be human.)

3) When confronted with extraordinary claims of “alien life,” logic would further dictate, rather than making un-objective guesses that exert a bias equivalent to wish fulfillment, that prosaic explanations would be offered instead, and, if deemed necessary, either accepted or ruled out before leaping to otherwise illogical presumptions (Example: in likelihood, this image shows a case of hydrocephalus, rather than an alien being for which we can account for no known organism (i.e. an alien) against which we can make such an illogical comparison).

The problems here are indeed many, and in likelihood, from what we’re seeing already, the Roswell slides probably aren’t going to present that “smoking gun” that many in the UFO community have been long hoping for.

A UFO Photographed Over Leeds A Day After A UFO Report In Neighbouring Bradford

A man, who identifies himself as Martyn, said he spotted a UFO in Leeds. This sighting happened after a bright circular object was caught on video from the sky in a neighbouring city a day before.

The witness said that he noticed a brilliant white light at around 6:30 in the evening on February 8 at Kippax, Leeds. He said that the unusual aerial object changed in colours, which brought excitement to him while he was also overwhelmed by the sighting. He wanted to continue observing the odd aerial object, but he also thought of his wife who was waiting for him.

He said that his wife, as well as her brother, believed him when he told about his sighting. He said that his wife didn’t see any reason he would lie.

The images taken by Martyn look like a circular object caught by another person a day before in Bradford. But that was not the first time Martyn saw a UFO.

Martyn said he saw a bright light on 14 August 2014 at around 11 in the evening above the M62, heading towards the A1 in Castleford/Pontefract.

He said that he found a bright light while driving together with his partner’s brother. They tried to know if the object was moving, but it was hard for them because they were driving.

They concluded, however, that the object was moving slowly. They both believed right there that they saw something unusual and convinced that it was not a plane. Martyn said that they could distinguish an aircraft from a UFO because there were many planes in the area too. Martyn added that the object was not moving fast enough to be considered as a plane. The object then ascended and disappeared after two or three seconds.

Mysterious Giant Clouds Spotted On Mars, 150 mile High Plumes Coming Off The Red Planet (Video)

Amateur astronomers have spotted two strange, cloud-like plumes high over Mars, deepening the mystery of what constitutes the Red Planet’s atmosphere, a study said Monday.

The phenomenon was observed on March 12, 2012 over the “terminator”, the boundary between day and night on Mars. A second was spotted nearby on April 6, 2012, and lasted about 10 days

One of the plumes developed in around 10 hours and lasted for about 11 days, shifting shape from “double blob protrusions” to pillars which merged into a “finger”, the study authors wrote.

Their trails were vast, extending between 500 and 1,000 kilometers (300 to 600 miles).

According to AFP, the “clouds” — if that is indeed what they were — were seen at high altitude, at about 200-250 kilometres, roughly above Terra Cimmeria, which is part of Mars’ rugged southern highlands, according a paper published in the journal Nature Geoscience by a team led by Agustin Sanchez-Lavega of the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao, Spain.

Over 10,000 Declassified UFO Case Sightings Hit the Web

 Since the 1940s, the U.S. Air Force has kept records of all of its investigations into extraterrestrial phenomena in one extensive report called Project Blue Book. This massive catalog of thousands of UFO and extraterrestrial reports from the 1940s to the 1970s has just been released online. The UFO enthusiast John Greenwald is the man responsible for bringing these UFO documents to the public. He’s spent the last decade collecting and digitizing the files through his web site The Black Vault. Greenewald believes these documents are only the “tip of the iceberg with what the military and U.S. government is hiding behind the UFO phenomenon, [though] they claim that this is it,” Greenewald says. But there are thousands of documents missing from the files including the infamous Roswell UFO incident.

De Goden wonen in de berg ( Video)

De wereldbevolking lijkt het allemaal maar niets bijzonders te vinden dat er een stroom UFO’s de Popocatépetl vulkaan in Mexico in en uit vliegen.

De Azteken wisten wel beter want wat zij de “Rokende Berg” noemden was de vulkaan waarin de Goden woonden.

Toen de Spanjaarden onder leiding van Herman Cortez aan het begin van de zestiende eeuw Mexico veroverde op de Azteken, kwamen ze tot de ontdekking dat er twee bergen waren die heel speciaal waren voor het verslagen volk.

Twee bergen die zelfs in de maand augustus nog bedekt waren met sneeuw en waarvan de belangrijkste de “De Rokende Berg” werd genoemd welke dezelfde is als de Popocatépetl vulkaan.

Deze en de iets noordelijker gelegen Iztaccíhuatl waren heilig voor de Azteken. Dat was glashelder voor de Spaanse veroveraars.

Een en ander werd opgetekend door een Franciscaanse monnik die eveneens constateerde dat de Azteken regelmatig pelgrimstochten naar de toppen ondernamen om (menselijke) offers te brengen aan de Goden. Het is nooit duidelijk geworden welke Goden dat nu precies waren.

Wanneer we kijken naar wat er nu gebeurt bij de Popocatépetl dan wordt alles een stuk duidelijker. We zien op regelmatige basis UFO’s verdwijnen in de krater van de vulkaan. Dit is in lijn is met wat de Azteken zeiden, namelijk dat de Goden in de berg woonden.

Voor hen was het duidelijk. De Popocatépetl was heilig omdat dit de berg was waar de Goden in woonden. Tot op de dag van vandaag wonen diezelfde Goden daar nog steeds.

De UFO’s die verdwijnen in de vulkaan zijn meestal de grote sigaarvormige en ook nu is er weer een waargenomen vlakbij de krater. 

Of de Azteken contact hadden met deze Goden/buitenaardsen is niet duidelijk. Wel dat ze er zodanig veel ontzag voor hadden dat ze zelfs bereid waren om (menselijke) offers te brengen.

Erich von Dänichen heeft in deze context decennia geleden een boek geschreven met de titel "Waren de Goden Kosmonauten".

Er staan honderden argumenten in om zijn redenering te staven. Von Däniken gaat ervan uit dat ruimtereizigers van een andere planeet onze planeet aarde hebben bezocht en op die manier de mens heeft gecreëerd. De aanwijzingen daarvoor zijn niet alleen te vinden in de archeologie maar ook in de scheppingsverhalen van de Soemeriërs, UFO-achtige voorwerpen op petroglyphen; rotstekeningen uit de steentijd, UFO's op de Egyptische en Soemerische hiëroglyphen, Indiase en Tibetaanse boeken met een handleiding voor het bouwen van een ruimteschip voor andere sterrenstelsels, en nog veel meer.

NASA Gears Up Its Initial Plan To Search For Extraterrestrial Life In Europa

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has announced a new project during the “State of NASA” speech by administrator Chris Bolden. The U.S. space agency seems preparing for first ever Europa mission. NASA is planning to send a probe to the moon of Jupiter.

NASA will request an additional $30 million to finance preliminary studies for the Europa mission. The amount will add up to the $100 million that the American agency already received in 2014.

Discovered 390 million miles away from Earth, Europa is an icy moon believed to hold massive oceans below its frozen surface. Scientists estimate the moon to harbor two or three times more liquid water than Earth.

The space agency has been working on mission concepts for 15 years and seems it already found the right one that is not too small or too expensive. According to one of the senior research scientists Robert Pappalardo, they call the concept, Europa Clipper.

Pappalardo revealed that the concept involves a spacecraft projected to orbit Jupiter and perform several fly-by’s of the planet’s moon for approximately over three years.

Somewhat similar project is already done by NASA in Saturn when they successfully orbited the planet with Cassini spacecraft. Cassini is still performing flybys of the planet’s moon Titan, which help scientists make a map of the moon’s surface. Researchers also collected data about the unique atmosphere of Saturn’s moon.

The Europa Clipper could perform the same mission with a focus on the analysis of the icy world’s potential for life. Europa measures slightly smaller than Earth’s moon with a diameter of 1,900 miles. Aside from its liquid water, scientists also thrilled with Europa’s heat source and nutrient cycling.

According to Kevin Hand, JPL deputy chief scientist for solar system exploration and an astrobiologist, Europa Clipper’s mission is to know whether Europa could be habitable, or it presents the elements required for life to flourish.

The images taken by Martyn look like a circular object caught by another person a day before in Bradford. But that was not the first time Martyn saw a UFO.

Martyn said he saw a bright light on 14 August 2014 at around 11 in the evening above the M62, heading towards the A1 in Castleford/Pontefract.

He said that he found a bright light while driving together with his partner’s brother. They tried to know if the object was moving, but it was hard for them because they were driving.

They concluded, however, that the object was moving slowly. They both believed right there that they saw something unusual and convinced that it was not a plane. Martyn said that they could distinguish an aircraft from a UFO because there were many planes in the area too. Martyn added that the object was not moving fast enough to be considered as a plane. The object then ascended and disappeared after two or three seconds.

Physicist Shows ‘Time Travel’ Is Possible

February 16, 2015 - Time travel is possible, but only under very particular circumstances according to Brian Cox, a physicist at the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Manchester.

Professor Cox experiments with a light showing that time moves faster for a stationary clock than a moving clock, which appears to move more slowly over the same length of time.

His conclusion is that time travel is possible, but only into the future.

Ten Amazing and Mysterious Geoglyphs from the Ancient World

Recent research revealed that an enormous geoglyph of a moose in the Ural Mountains, Russia, is among the oldest examples of land art in the world, dating back some 6,000 years.  The moose measures approximately 275 meters (900 feet) in length (at its longest point), and was formed by ditches 30 centimeters (12 inches) deep and between 4.5 meters (15 feet) and 10 meters (32 feet) wide. The ditches were dug out and then filled with stones, with larger stones usually placed along the edges and smaller stones used to fill in the middle. The hooves of the moose were filled in with a mixture of clay and crushed stones. An analysis of stone tools found at the site revealed a style of lithic reduction that corresponds to the period between 3,000 and 4,000 BC. Perhaps one of the most interesting discoveries to emerge from recent excavation work at the site, is that an examination of more than 150 tools found around the geoglyph suggests that children were involved in its construction, as well as adults.  “But it was not a kind of slave labour of children,” said Stanislav Grigoryev, a senior researcher from the Chelyabinsk History and Archaeology Institute. “They were involved to share common values, to join something important to all the people.”

Giant stone circles in the Middle East puzzle archaeologists

Huge stone circles in the Middle East have been imaged from the air, but researchers remain puzzled as to why they exist, and who made them. Eleven big circles dot the landscape across Jordan and Syria. They date back at least 2,000 years, but may even be pre-historic, created in a time before the invention of writing.  The geoglyphs are very large, some of them approximately 1,300 feet in diameter, and are composed of short, stone walls built from local rocks. Researchers say the circles would have required some planning, as many of the circles are very precise. It was likely there was some sort of “architect” to head up each project.  Researchers question whether the circles were used to maintain animal herds, or may have been areas of burial, but so far no contemporary remains – or any obvious practical uses – have been recovered or gleaned from the sites. Thousands of other ancient structures have been found across the Middle East, such as wheels, walls, pendants (lines to and from burial cairns) and kites (stone walls used to drive animals into kill areas). Much like the enigmatic Nasca lines of Peru – giant geoglyphs half a world away from Jordan – the intentions of the builders, and the purpose of the designs remain, for now, a very baffling mystery.

The unknown origins of the incredible Sajama Lines of Bolivia

In Western Bolivia, thousands and thousands of perfectly straight paths are etched into the ground, creating an amazing sight. These lines were carved into the ground over a period of 3,000 years by indigenous people living near the volcano Sajama. It is unknown exactly when or why they were constructed, and it is hard to imagine how the construction of something of such magnitude could pre-date modern technology. The Sajama lines cover an area of approximately 22,525 square kilometers, or 8,700 square miles. They are perfectly straight lines, formed into a web or network. Each individual line is 1-3 meters, or 3-10 feet wide. The longest lines measure 20 kilometers, or 12 miles in length.  The creation of these lines without the aid of modern technology is a marvel. They were etched into the ground by scraping vegetation to the side, and scouring away dark surface material consisting of soil and oxidized rock, to reveal a light subsurface. The precision of the Sajama lines is remarkable. While many of these sacred lines extend as far as ten or twenty kilometers (and perhaps further), they all seem to maintain a remarkable straightness despite rugged topography and natural obstacles. Some believe that the indigenous people used the lines as a navigational tool during sacred pilgrimages. Wak’as (shrines), chullpas (burial towers) and hamlets are interspersed among the lines, creating a cultural landscape.

The mysterious prehistoric geoglyph of the Paracas Candelabra

The Paracas Candelabra is a prehistoric geoglyph found in the Paracas Peninsula at Pisco Bay, Peru. With a large, branchlike appearance, the purpose and meaning of the Candelabra remains unknown. The Paracas Candelabra is estimated to be approximately 595 – 800 feet tall and can be seen from as far as 12 miles out at sea. The geoglyph was created by cutting two feet deep into the hardened soil, with rocks placed around the figure.  The shape of the geoglyph is mysterious and somewhat difficult to describe. Some have likened it to a cactus plant, while others believe it looks more like a three-branched candlestick, hence the name “candelabra.” The meaning and purpose of the Paracas Candelabra are unknown to this day.  The Conquistadors supposedly believed the geoglyph represents the Holy Trinity, and took it as a good omen and a sign that they should proceed with their quest to conquer and Christianize the locals, although no clear historical records authenticate this assertion. Some believe the Paracas Candelabra is a representation of a hallucinogenic plant called Jimson weed, while others have suggested that the geoglyph represents a lightning rod of the god Viracocha, who was the great creator god in the pre-Inca and Inca mythology in the Andes region of South America. The true meaning and purpose of the Paracas Candelabra remain elusive to this day, and may be forever lost to history. Nevertheless, the enormous geoglyph continues to attract people from all over the world who marvel at its sheer size and wonder about its origin and creation.
