Fifty years of strange encounters in Weston
Fifty years of strange encounters in Weston
Recently photographed UFOs have been regularly reported
Slideshow: a collection of photographs that show an unnatural orange light moving across the Saugatuck Reservoir in Nov., 2013. Each picture is an eight-second exposure, taken one-after-another, meaning each photograph shows the distance traveled by the light in eight seconds. (Note: an earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the time-lapse pictures were taken in October.)
In the fall of 1966, a dentist driving down Route 53 through Redding and Weston noticed something unexplainable hovering over the Saugatuck Reservoir.
The dentist, Dr. Harry Neilsen of Darien, later described what he saw as “a large, triangular glow bearing red and white lights” just above the horizon near the large reservoir, a news wire service reported in December of that year.
This event would prove to be the first of many published reports of strange, often red-orange lights in the skies above both Redding and Weston. The reports, found in old newspaper articles and on UFO reporting sites, have been compiled and today, almost 50 years since the first report, Hersam Acorn Newspapers has what may be the first photographic evidence of the phenomenon.
Taken in November and December of 2013, the digital photographs by Wilton Bulletin reporter Christopher Burns show an unnatural orange light moving horizontally and slowly just above the tree-line on the southeast side of the Saugatuck Reservoir, near the Easton/Weston town line.
The light is so bright in the photographs that a clear reflection of it can be seen in the water of the reservoir.
Andrew Flynn, a Reddingite who was with Mr. Burns while he took the pictures, said the light was bright and immediately unfamiliar.
“Living just outside of New York City, planes and helicopters are seen quite often. When I first saw this light I was with a group of people and it was immediately identified as something out of the ordinary,” Mr. Flynn said.
And it didn’t happen just once, Mr. Flynn said. During the winter of 2013, he “continued to see it time and time again.”
The Saugatuck Reservoir was constructed in the late 1930s on the site of a hamlet known as Valley Forge. In the 1700s, Valley Forge was made up of farms and swampland. In the 19th Century, the village was a vital industrial center, boasting iron and steel mills and factories along the Saugatuck River.
But in the early part of the 20th Century, Bridgeport Hydraulic Company bought up most of the land, dammed the Saugatuck River and flooded the valley to create the reservoir to serve the city of Bridgeport to the south.
The majority of the reservoir is located in Weston, where 75% of the town’s land is protected from development in perpetuity. In fact, the entire eastern shore of the reservoir borders Centennial State Forrest, where no development has been allowed.
A map shows the point on the reservoir where the photos were taken, and the estimated location of the lights. (Click the maps to enlarge)
Historical sitings
In addition to the 1966 lights siting, a string of Redding Pilot articles from the mid-1970s report a very similar phenomenon.
“Moving in a straight path across the sky was a large yellow globe, the brightest thing in the clear evening. It moved from west to east above the tree line at a fairly good speed and then disappeared over the horizon,” one Pilot editorial from 1976 reads. “[The woman] explained how the bright sky-thing had kept pace with her car as it moved north into Redding; then it suddenly changed direction and headed east.”
In the editorial account, the light would later return to the home of the woman, where she and her husband saw it hovering again.
Another story in The Pilot, “Encounters Too Close for Comfort” from 1978, goes into even greater detail.
Leon Adams reported seeing a strange light as he drove to work the midnight to 8 a.m. shift in the boiler room at the Gilbert and Bennett Wire Mill in Georgetown.
The article reads, “At first the light was stationary and looked as if it hung directly over the factory, Mr. Adams said, but as he approached it, he realized the UFO was more distant. He estimated its location as above the Saugatuck Reservoir because the brightness lit up the trees … He tried to think of likely explanations for the object, but the light had been too bright, particularly when it began to spin and show colors, to have been a helicopter, a plane, or a search light.”

More recent reports
At least two more Redding Pilot articles from the 1970s discuss strange lights in the skies above Redding, Weston, and even Easton. Such grouped sitings might have beeen written off as the work of a prankster had the orange lights not continued to be reported from that time up until today.
Four reports of lights in the sky were published by the National UFO Reporting Center in the early 2000s. One, from February 2011, discusses a light above Devil’s Den, a nature preserve near the Weston/Redding border.
“Last night at 8 p.m. I looked out [of] my living room window and noticed a flashing bright red light low on the horizon a mile or so away over the Devil’s Den area on the Weston/Redding border. It was low in the sky and unusually bright, much brighter than any airplane lights, flashing and drifting very slowly.”
Weston’s Animal Control Officer Mark Harper grew up on the reservoir and often works in the area, but told Hersam Acorn last year that he has never heard of the orange lights.
Weston Police Chief John Troxell, who has been with the Weston Police Department for 34 years, said he can’t recall any reports regarding lights over the reservoir.
On the other hand, a former Redding Pilot reporter told the newspaper that even 40 years after he saw the lights on BlChampignons snijdenack Rock Turnpike, he still remembers them. The Weston Forum has decided to keep his report anonymous at this time.
“In my mind, definitely UFO(s),” he wrote in an email Feb. 16 of this year. “Years later, someone suggested the possibility they were helicopters from Sikorsky. But they changed direction too quickly and moved way too fast. Never seen anything like it before or since.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------eston Forum Reporter Patty Gay contributed to this story.

UFO-MANIA : "Now here's a Real Ufo"
UFO-MANIA : "Now here's a Real Ufo"
"This is a video I saved from YouTube back in May, 2012. The video was uploaded with the same title, without quotes. I was not able to find the original upload. *I have no further information regarding the origin of this video.* - - - Personally, I've never been able to settle on whether these are even "flying objects," or an unusual but interesting atmospheric effect being created by someone/something. If you look closely, there do seem to be vague silhouettes of what might be buildings "above" the mountain range. Or maybe they're other mountain tops? At 0:51, one of the objects exhibits an interesting blinking effect. I don't believe it's CGI, but I'm no expert on that. I've sure as hell never seen anything like it, even online. I'm all ears for explanations, but I'll admit that I tend to lean more toward it being an atmospheric phenomenon. What do you think?"

A woman recorded video of a UFO over Lewisburg, Mississippi in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 26.
The witness, Angela Ashton, says she was in bed when she saw a “bright blinding light” through her large bedroom window just after midnight. She raced outside with her camera to record the unusual aerial object.
(Credit: Angela Ashton/WMC)
She describes the UFO as triangle-shaped and extremely large. She thinks the object was “at least the size of a football field.”
The object was completely silent as it hovered for approximately twenty minutes over a nearby field. According to the witness, the UFO then shot straight up into the sky and disappeared. Unfortunately, the disappearance wasn’t captured on video. Ashton says she only managed to capture a few seconds of video because it was cold outside.
Local NBC affiliate WMC-TV contacted purported drone expert Robert Estes for his opinion. After watching Ashton’s video, Estes doesn’t believe the object in the video is a drone because most drones “don’t have lights like you see in the video.”
(Credit: Angela Ashton/WMC)
Estes also opined that the UFO could simply be a plane.
But Ashton, who is a “certified Paranormal Investigator” with Cryptic Shadows Paranormal Research, and claims to have researched UFOs for more than fifteen years, is convinced that what she observed was extraterrestrial.
UFO Buzzes Nuclear Plant In Mexico, Latest Of Many UFOs Seen Hovering At Nuke Facilities
A UFO filmed hovering over nuclear power plant in Veracruz, Mexico, and posted to YouTube November 7 is just the latest in a long series of UFO sightings over and near nuclear facilities — as history of ominous sightings that stretches back six decades, to the earliest days of nuclear energy production.
The UFO video from Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant, a 24-year-old nuke owned and operated by the Mexican government, was purportedly shot with a cell phone camera on November 5 by an engineer at the power plant. The 91-second-long video, viewable above, definitely shows something hovering over the nuclear reactors. But what?
While technically a UFO because the object is “unidentified” and flying, speculation among commenters on the video’s YouTube page, which as received more than 40,000 views so far, ranges from “toy,” to “party balloon,” to the more sinister “Russian spy thing.” By “thing,” the commenters mean a drone, that is, an unmanned aircraft of some kind. But a drone could be anything from a harmless toy to a military surveillance or attack aircraft.
Or is the video simply a hoax? So far, no experts have examined the Mexican UFO video closely enough to weigh in. Of course, some viewers of the video see it as an authentic recording of an alien spacecraft. Scott Waring, of the popular UFO Sighting Daily blog, speculates that “aliens are interested in our technological advances and how we make energy, while impacting the Earth with pollution.”
Another possibility, Waring believes, is that he video shows a damaged alien spacecraft “harvesting” energy from the Laguna Verde nuke to “get home.” While Waring’s speculation will likely be taken with a grain of nuclear powered salt by most observers, the fact remains that nuclear power plants have been unusually common sites for UFO sightings.
The phenomenon dates back to 1950, when a number of scientists working on a then-secret nuclear energy project at Los Alamos spotted a disc-shaped UFO zig-zagging across the sky at an altitude of about 2,000 feet. Two years later, similar UFO sightings were reported UFOs hovering over newly-built nuclear plants in Washington and South Carolina.
More recently, a 2012 UFO video from Mexico was also captured at a nuclear power plant. And in April of this year, a series of UFO sightings were reported at McGuire Nuclear Station in North Carolina.
The Salem Nucelar Power Plant in New Jersey has also been the site of numerous UFO sightings, which like all UFO incidents, may have an innocent explanation, but one has not yet been forthcoming.

AMAZING PHOTO OF A TRIANGLE CRAFT OVER VALLEY FORGE PENNSYLVANIA JANUARY 7, 2015
VALLEY FORGE PENNSYLVANIA On this particular evening I was driving home from work.
Because of where I live, I always take Gulph Rd through Valley Forge Park to and from work. I was driving NW on Gulph Rd towards Phoenixville away from King of Prussia, when I noticed three very bright lights just over the tree line in the distance (I think I noticed them just about the time I passed the Washington Memorial Chapel).
The lights were side by side. At first glance it looked to be an airplane of some sort. But as I drove closer I realized whatever it was, was too bright and too low to be a plane.
I actually started to think that maybe they had built a tower in the park with lights at the top of it, but I knew that wasn’t logical because I would have seen this tower/monument by now. I also started to realize that whatever it was, wasn’t stationary.
It was moving, but slowly. When I was finally back on a straight part of the road, I had decided that this was just too weird and started snapping pictures. As I got closer it was more apparent to me that this wasn’t a plane or a helicopter.
I considered pulling over, but had someone behind me. It was also very dark and 17 degrees outside. But after my car had finally passed the lights (I couldn’t describe anything beyond that because of how bright the three lights were) I decided to look back at it out my driver side window.
This is when I realized that it was literally just above the tree line and shaped like a Triangle. Once I was past the lights I could distinguish the shape vividly.
After my experience I was a little shaken up. I called my mom, who thought I was just pulling her leg. But after I sent her the pictures, she was convinced. She even went as far as to research sightings in Valley Forge. She came up with two interesting stories.
One, was of George Washington, who had reported witnessing a UFO in the now park. And a few years ago someone else had reported a very similar story to mine, which made me feel less crazy. I have been living in the area for almost 5 years now, and I visit the park often.
I know this park in and out. I know what the planes flying overhead look like. And I’ve seen my fair share of helicopters and drones. This to me was just so weird and unexplainable.
It took me almost a week to even send in my story.
I’m open-minded about unexplainable events, but I personally do not come to conclusions without thinking about it first.
Even if this was totally explainable, it was still weird and definitely a story worth sharing.
This case is under investigation by MUFON Pennsylvania investigators.

UFO neergestort in Canada? ( update+ video )
UFO neergestort in Canada? ( update+ video )

A Canadian witness at Markham, Ontario, recalled a daylight sighting from the spring of 1987 where an object described as a “black door” hovered in the sky, according to testimony in Case 63531 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The reporting witness was a 9-year-old in 1987 playing with her cousin in a field behind her home during daylight hours with a clear sky.
“I looked up at the sky and saw a black, vertical, rectangle hovering above, just south of where we stood,” the witness stated. “I remember looking over at my cousin who was also staring at it and asked her if she saw it too. She said yes.”
The witness described the object.
“We both thought it looked like a black door or doorway. We stared at it for several minutes waiting to see what would happen. It barely moved, although it did appear to be shaking or vibrating slightly.”

The witnesses’ mother called from their backyard asking the kids to come inside for dinner.
“We left the field and the ‘black door’ and went back to my house. We never discussed it with my parents and I’ve never seen anything like it since.”
The witness is hoping someone has a similar incident to share.
“The reason why I decided to share my story is because I want to know if anyone else has a similar story to mine or can shed some light on what we saw. Recently I asked my cousin if she remembered what we saw in the field behind my house when we were kids. She responded immediately saying, ‘Do you mean the door in the sky? I’ll never forget it!’”
The witness said the black rectangle was hovering between 75-100 yards above the ground.

Markham is a city in the Regional Municipality of York, lies within the Greater Toronto Area of Southern Ontario, Canada, population 301,709.
Please remember that most UFO sighting can be explained as something natural or man-made. The above quotes were edited for clarity. Please report UFO activity to MUFON.com.
UFO Sightings and Videos: Are They Fake or Genuine?
UFO Sightings and Videos: Are They Fake or Genuine?
Extraterrestrials have been identified through strange shadows in the sky, flying saucers, or even unusual marks left on fields. Countless of UFO sightings have been reported by different individuals around the world over the years. Unidentified flying objects or UFOs have been involved in many conspiracies and controversies. Nobody can actually prove how true they are since nearly all traces disappear throughout the course of history. While many would find UFO and alien stories true, many others are still in doubt. So, how will you know if you see something extraordinary? Here are some incidences that will serve as your reference.
McMinnville UFO (Oregon)
A UFO appeared on the lens of the camera from an Oregon farmer couple in May 1950. According to wife Evelyn Trent, she first saw the object before it sped off out of their view. Evelyn described the object as a silvery, metallic disk.
Most UFO sightings happened near US Air Force bases, so it has been many times mentioned in UFO sighting reports. Perhaps, the most popular until today is still the Edward’s Air Force Base Sighting. An astronaut, at the same time a test pilot, filmed a classic saucer. The UFO was a silver and a smooth saucer that was approximately 30 feet in diameter. It had 3 legs that believed to be a landing gear. However, as the witness was about to submit the photo, it apparently disappeared.
A group of friends claimed they saw glowing, diamond shaped object that was about the size of a water tower blocking their way. Known as the Piney Woods Sighting, it brought emotional, mental and physical trauma to the group due to chemical poisoning in the area. They claimed to have seen helicopters escorting the UFO away from them.
Some have attributed these incidences to government conspiracy, but nobody knows what these occurrences tell, and one can only guess.
An unknown radio signal, which may have come from a black hole, colliding neutron stars (or – for those who ‘believe’ – alien life), has been picked up by astronomers live for the first time ever. Its origins remain mysterious.
The fast radio bursts are quick, bright flashes of radio waves that last only milliseconds, but still emit as much energy as the sun in an entire day.
This is the first time that these radio waves have been spotted live. The first burst was picked up in 2007 by sifting through old data at the Parkes Radio Telescope in Eastern Australia. Only seven others have been seen since then.
This time, the mysterious waves were picked with the use of 12 telescopes in Australia, Chile, Germany, Hawaii, India, California and the Canary Islands.
Because they observed the radio waves in real time, they were also able to try and find other wavelengths, like x-rays or infrared to find out their source…but remained unable to find anything.
“The fact that we did not see light in other wavelengths eliminates a number of astronomical phenomena that are associated with violent events such as gamma-ray bursts from exploding stars and supernovae, which were otherwise candidates for the burst,” Daniele Malesani, of the University of Copenhagen, told Astronomy Magazine.
The radio waves were polarized, which suggests that they were near an object with a large magnetic field.
“The theories are now that the radio wave burst might be linked to a very compact type of object – such as neutron stars or black holes – and the bursts could be connected to collisions or ‘star quakes,’ he added.
The radio signals originated up to 5.5 billion light-years away, from outside our Milky Way Galaxy and that they were caught by astronomers possibly up to a decade after they happened.
The catch took place in May 2014, but the results of the study got published this week in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
No one knows where exactly such waves come from, or what causes them. Astronomers have postulated that the mysterious signals might be emitted by exploding stars or supernovas; a collision of binary neutron stars or binary white dwarf star could also be a source.
One more possible reason could be a blitzar – a supermassive neutron star that should have become a black hole, but is spinning so fast that it is temporarily prevented from collapsing.
“We found out what it wasn’t. The burst could have hurled out as much energy in a few milliseconds as the Sun does in an entire day. But the fact that we did not see light in other wavelengths eliminates a number of astronomical phenomena that are associated with violent events such as gamma-ray bursts from exploding stars and supernovae, which were otherwise candidates for the burst,” Malesani said.
Having set “the trap,” the team is now waiting to catch another burst and maybe get some answers to the mystery.
There are a number of things that come to mind when I posted this article. Could these radio waves be coming from an intelligent life form? Is it possible that they’re being emitted from Saturn (aka Satan in astrotheology)? Do they have anything to do with the collapse of the matrix? Are they possibly distress signals from the ongoing Orion Wars, signifying an end to universal tyranny?
One thing we can be sure of is that science çand the mainstream media will write this off as “nothing to see here”.
Humans should start sending messages to planets in habitable zones in the hope that alien life-forms might hear us, scientists have said.
Space experts at the Search for Extra Terrestrial Life (SETI) project said the time has come to stop passively listening for signs of intelligence in other worlds and actively start seeking contact.
Kepler Space Telescope captured tens of thousands of stars in the constellation of Cygnus and Lyra
SETI was founded 20 years ago to monitor the cosmos for signals of alien life and involves astrophysicists from institutions like Harvard University and the University of California. However as early 1960 scientists were scanning space for clues to other civilizations.
Douglas Vakoch, the Director of Interstellar Message Composition at the SETI Institute, said we should now start devising a message to send to planets which have recently been discovered in the "goldilocks zone" – areas of space where it is neither too hot nor too cold for life to exist.
Kepler-186f, the first validated Earth-size planet to orbit a distant star in the habitable zone
"For over a half century, scientists engaged in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence have sought evidence of the existence of other civilizations by searching for intentional radio signals," he said
"As we move into the next half century we should expand our strategies, so we are not only passively listening, but also transmitting intentional, information-rich signals.
"With recent detections of Earth-like planets in the habitable zones of other stars, we have natural targets for such transmission projects.
"We should repeatedly target a set of nearby stars over the course of several months or years.”
The Kepler Telescope
NASA’s Kepler Telescope has so far found more than 3,800 planets in habitable zones which could hold liquid water, and life. Experts say targeting them with a signal is the best hope of making contact with new worlds.
However the content of a message has been hotly debated. To find out what humans would like to say to aliens, SETI founded a site called Earth Speaks and asked people to devise an interstellar message.
The smallest-ever planet outside our solar system has been spotted by NASA's Kepler space telescope - a rocky planet similar in size to the Earth
While women tended to offer friendship, and even coffee and biscuits in their missives, men were more likely to talk about science and inquire about their civilisation. Overall the main theme was asking for help from aliens rather than seeking to impart the wisdom of Earth.
Mr Vakoch said humans have a "cosmic inferiority complex" and automatically assume that extra-terrestrials will be more technologically advanced than us and so have nothing to learn.
But he added: "Humankind has a range of experiences and insights that cannot be imagined by any other civilization.
"Though extraterrestrials may be more technologically advanced we are, they will never be more human. It’s the breadth of our human experience that we should be conveying in our interstellar messages."
The experts at SETI say that governments must start working together to devise the message. The equipment to send basic messages already exists and scientists say that reluctance ‘more political than technical.’
Seth Shostak, Senior Astronomer and Director, Center for SETI research, said some people resisted the approach, fearing it could alert our presence to dangerous extra-terrestrial races.
"It’s very controversial,” he said, “There are some people who think this might be dangerous.
"The idea that you are somehow endangering Earth I don’t think holds any water because we have been broadcasting into space willy nilly since the Second World War – televisions, FM radio and radar.
"These signals have been going into space for 70-somethng years so they are quite far out and any society that could come to Earth and incinerate Belgium, if they think they deserve it, is fully capable of picking up these broadcasts.”
But he admits that it is a gamble whether visiting aliens will come in peace.
“Nobody knows if they are friendly or not,” he added.
“You could be optimistic and think they are all friendly or figure they are like ones in the movies and hellbent on destruction. I suspect there is a whole range.
“Earth has been sitting around for 4 billion years with life on it and nobody’s thought to destroy it.
“It may be they want to proseltyse. The other thing is that they are just interested in the culture – that’s what’s special about us. Maybe they are interested in rock ‘n’ roll. Maybe they want Cliff Richard.”
However American scientist and futurist David Brin believes it is a mistake to try and contact alien worlds.
"We are the youngest of all technological races in the cosmos, like an orphan child who suddenly finds herself wandering a strange jungle that’s quiet, too quiet,” he said.
"Perhaps you have the kind of personality that says: "What the heck! I might as well shout and see what happens!"
"That’s all very well if the only one you are putting at risk is yourself. But when that risk is also imposed upon our children -- all of humanity and our planet – is it too much to ask that we discuss it first?"
The scientists were speaking at the annual Association for the Advancement of Science AAAS annual conference in San Jose.
Well...here we go again. Another round of pleas that our government disclose what they know about UFOs and extraterrestrial life. The political parties have started the process of whittling down their nominees for president...thus, the question of disclosure becomes a part of the rhetoric.
But, of course, some of us realize that it will never happen. Better stated, a true disclosure will never be offered to the public...unless it become so obvious that there really are non-terrestrial beings and advanced interstellar craft. Then an announcement of some kind may be forthcoming.
I found the following article this morning:
Push is on for 'comprehensive' extraterrestrial hearings on Capitol Hill
We’ve recently seen a drone crash a congressional hearing on drones, but what would happen if there was a hearing on extraterrestrial life?
Stephen Bassett, executive director of Paradigm Research Group and founder of the Extraterrestrial Phenomena Political Action Committee would like to find out.
While he’s pushed for congressional hearings on the topic in the past, Bassett is launching a new effort to overcome the “truth embargo” about the government’s involvement with alien life forms.
It comes in the form of “The Congressional Hearings Initiative.”
“Once this evidence is properly looked at, the way it should be, any reasonable person will come to the same conclusion,” Bassett told Roll Call.
Bassett is flooding approximately 180 members of Congress with meeting requests.
And if Basset gets his way, he doesn’t just want some skimpy meeting done for show.
“The goal is to get one of the committees to commit for comprehensive hearings,” Basset said. “Not three witnesses, come up [to] the Hill for half a day and give ’em a spiel. I’m talking about 25, 30, 35 witnesses, at least, testifying over a week, two weeks if possible. The reason is we’ve got those witnesses and the issue is not an issue that you can dispense with something trivial.”
Two people Bassett should get in his corner: John Podesta, President Barack Obama’s counselor, and former President Bill Clinton.
Considering Podesta’s comments that his “biggest failure” was not securing the disclosure of UFO files, it’s a natural fit.
And as far as Clinton, he did once tell Jimmy Kimmel that maybe the only way to united the world would be with an alien invasion.
So really, a congressional hearing on extraterrestrial life could also double as a world peace hearing.- Sun Times
So now we should have a former U.S. President and former White House insider 'helping' to find the truth. Mmm...are we to believe that President Clinton never reviewed any information pertaining to UFOs and alien beings while he was in office? The same question goes to John Podesta. Why didn't they make the effort to disclose the information at that time? Yeah, that's right...they wouldn't have dared chance it. I'm sorry that I seem cynical...but this shell-game, in my mind, is absurd.
During the 36th annual Kennedy Center Honors in 2013, President Barack Obama joked that he was making history for going where no president had gone before.
While honoring Oscar-winning actress Shirley MacLaine, who claims she has seen UFOs before, including "a mothership", Obama mentioned Area 51, a secret military installation north of Las Vegas that many in ufology believe is home to crashed flying saucers and alien bodies.
"Now, when you first become President, one of the questions that people ask you is, 'what's really going on in Area 51?'" Obama said. "When I wanted to know, I'd call Shirley MacLaine."
"I think I just became the first President to ever publicly mention Area 51," Obama added. "How's that, Shirley?"
I want to state that I truly believe that it is rational to assume that non-terrestrial beings exist and that these beings, in some capacity, may currently inhabit this planet. I have interviewed many experiencers and have seen some incredible evidence as an investigator. I'm totally convinced that humanity is being observed and manipulated by these highly advanced species...a process that has continued for millennia. There has been speculation that our species is a hybrid of human and alien DNA. This may very well be true but it has yet to be to be confirmed scientifically. Then again, our DNA strain may be so ancient that distinct human and alien genes may be impossible to isolate. Nevertheless, this is not what I want to write about at this time.
Since the 1950’s, Hollywood has been producing movies that deal with UFOs and alien beings. Most of the early films were full of hokey costumed creatures, tinfoil covered spacecraft and ridiculous story lines. On the other hand, we were given the impression that these aliens were either malevolent or were here to make sure the human species did not destroy itself.
Eventually, these B-movies science fiction thrillers evolved into high priced, computer enhanced mega productions that garnered millions of fans (ex. ‘Star Wars', ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, etc.). Technology provided instant gratification with the ability for anyone to pop in a tape, then later a DVD, into the player at their convenience. We just sit back, relax and watch in high definition (and sometimes in 3D) wondrous interstellar craft and amazing alien beings interact with our species, either in the present time or long into the future. The plots and stories are a multiplicity of good vs. evil...and everything in between.
Yes...I fell into the same trap. My interest in the UFO and extraterrestrial phenomenon was exacerbated by Hollywood’s magic and the ability to make me wonder if what they portrayed may actually be close to the truth. Whether we are just being entertained or witnessing a primer for what we can expect is the real question. In other words, are we being conditioned...programmed, brainwashed or however you want to phrase it. Are we being made ready for the inevitable?
In the summer of 1996, Twentieth Century Fox released the film Independence Day It projected the tale of an alien mothership with a mass one-fourth of that of the Moon, that entered Earth’s orbit and deployed several dozen saucer-shaped destroyer spacecraft. Each of these craft are 15 miles in width and positioned over some of Earth's major cities. These destroyer craft coordinate and eventually deploy a WMD capable of leveling large cities, as well as dispatching the inhabitants. The U.S. President and most of his Cabinet reach safety at Area 51 where they discover that the aliens had visited Earth previously. Three dead aliens, as well as a complete attack craft, had been recovered and were stored underground. At the end of the day, which happened to be July 4th, the humans figure out how to destroy the aliens worldwide and ultimately become independent again.
‘Independence Day’ was written/directed by Ronald Emmerich and written/produced Don Devlin, the same pair who had previously created the film Stargate Not only did ‘Independence Day’ rejuvenate the science fiction genre in films but visually introduced us to alien forces plotting a strategic and tangible invasion against earth.
In today’s ufology, it’s my opinion that a majority of witness comments and theories, certainly the most well-known accounts, are usually based on film narratives produced in the 90’s and beyond. There are popular notions that predate this period, namely famous UFO crashes and retrievals. But after some analysis it seems the bulk of the modern UFO lore can be traced to the last two decades, as well as to a handful of individuals.
I’m not implying that the UFO and extraterrestrial phenomenon is somehow a myth. As I stated earlier, I believe there are beings of equal or higher intelligence that not only travel to this planet or dimension, but may also inhabit it as well. On the other hand, these beings and their appearance, mannerisms and mode of transportation are most likely not the same as our popular culture describes them. I’ll admit that I am as guilty as others in using some of these popular descriptions when I post on my blog, though I try to avoid it as much as possible.
We can debate the arguments for disclosure and if the world is ready for that reality, but at the end of the day, those arguments are still based on assumptions that still lack credible evidence. Even if there was some evidence that supported the theories that the government had intimate knowledge of alien beings, disclosing the existence or visitation to our planet of non-human entities would certainly qualify as a ‘world after’ event (ex. ‘world after 9/11’). I think the government knows more about UFOs and alien beings than it publicly acknowledges, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are covering up secret agreements, underground bases, genetic hybridization or any knowledge of where extraterrestrials come from.
Those people who are interested and involved in the study of UFOs and extraterrestrials need to look at the logical evidence that is provided and not compare it to the computer generated flash and stories used for entertainment. As well, an absolute need for disclosure serves only as security for our conscience. Real disclosure will not be on human terms. Disclosure will be on their terms, the non-terrestrials, whether we can accept that or not...Lon
For all UFO enthusiast and UFOologists alike, today is the 73rd anniversary of the Battle Of Los Angeles otherwise known as The Great LA Air raid, which has gone down history as the most mysterious events of World War II.
Back in 1942 on this very day, Los Angeles was panic stricken by an invasion of what was believed to be a Japanese aircraft hovering over the city. The US army reacted by firing 1400 shells into the skies but to no avail, no aircraft was ever recovered.
Nobody really knew what they had just seen, there was no evidence of downed craft, there where some explanations that centred around weather balloons, but that would have been feasible if there had been material of that kind recovered.
The other explanation was that it could well have been ships of extraterrestrial origin. In the original Times photograph, the picture show glowing round spheres hovering int he night sky, the incident ignited the Americas first ever UFO sighting by mass public eyes, and this was even before the 1947 Roswell crash.
Nick Pope, Ex employee British Government's Ministry of Defence told Neon Nettle: "Believers think this was nothing short of an alien invasion, while skeptics say it was a combination of mass hysteria and war nerves, with people shooting at balloons. Whatever the truth, it shows that people can and do see and film UFOs not just in remote areas, but over major cities".
Amazingly, since the sighting all those years back, there is still no rational explanation. To mark the anniversary, the UFO world have been treated to a trailer for the UFO Diary today. The Full version of UFO Diary is set to be released soon and will feature special effects from Antony Vannapho (The Twilight Saga), Kiel Figgins (Avengers: Age of Ultron) Sean Dollins (Prometheus), Rini Sugianto (The Hunger Games), Delano Athias (Polis), Bren Wilson (Paradise Lost) and many others.
The question still remains, however, did a UFO(s) really hover above Los Angeles all those years ago? Its is something to think about.

The 1947 Kenneth Arnold UFO Sighting
The 1947 Kenneth Arnold UFO Sighting
Date: June 24, 1947 Location: Near Mt. Rainier, Washington, United States
The modern phenomena of UFOs and “flying saucers” began in Washington state on June 24, 1947, when Kenneth Arnold spotted nine mysterious, high-speed objects “flying like a saucer would” along the crest of the Cascade Range near Mount Rainier. His report made international headlines and triggered hundreds of similar accounts of “flying saucers” locally and across the nation.

Edward Ruppelt, The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects
Although a formal project for UFO investigation wasn't set up until September 1947, the Air Force had been vitally interested in UFO reports ever since June 24, 1947, the day Kenneth Arnold made the original UFO report.
You will not find any conventional history book that even so much as mentions that on this date the human race first became aware of a phenomenon that could well be the most important discovery of the last century, or even in the history of mankind: the presence of "Other Intelligences" (Non-Human Intelligence). This document, the "ultimate Arnold" history and analysis, is an edited and updated version of my presentation at the 1997 MUFON Symposium.
The following story of what I observed over the Cascade mountains, as impossible as it may seem, is positively true. I never asked nor wanted any notoriety for just accidentally being in the right spot at the right time to observe what I did. R
In the Skeptics UFO Newsletter (SKUFON), #46 of July 1997 Philip Klass has proposed, in conjunction with Keay Davidson, a new explanation for the flying saucer sighting by Kenneth Arnold. One wonders why it took 50 years for this explanation to be proposed. R
The June 24, 1947 sighting by private pilot Kenneth Arnold was not really the first recorded UFO sighting. However, it was the first sighting to be publicly reported and it attracted worldwide interest. It also attracted many more than its share of explanations.
Almost three years after the famous June 24, 1947 sighting in the Cascades of the state of Washington, Edward R. Murrow engaged the pilot/witness Kenneth Arnold in a conversation about his historic experience. Portions of that conversation are reproduced here in an exact transcript of the broadcast as it was heard nationwide on the evening of April 7, 1950.
The 50th anniversary of the flying saucer phenomenon is upon us, and thoughts time-warp back to the case that started it all, Kenneth Arnold's sighting of nine objects speeding by Mount Rainier on a sunny June afternoon. R
Funny how your life can get turned upside down just because you see something. Kenneth Arnold's story is the story of a pretty straight guy. He was an Eagle Scout when he was a teen-ager. He worked for the Red Cross. He was an All-State football player in high school, with hopes of being a college star until a knee injury cut his football career short.
After college, Arnold became a salesman and learned to fly, combining the two by flying from small town to small town selling fire control equipment, eventually owning the Great Western Fire Control Supply Company. He was a member of the Sheriff's "aerial posse"of Ada County, Idaho, he was a relief U.S. Marshall, and he sometimes flew prisoners to the Federal Penitentiary. Flying his light plane, a Callair, was the basis of his livelihood.
In other words, he was the perfect UFO witness: a solid citizen, honest and trustworthy, married, with two daughters.
On June 24, 1947, he was returning home from a business trip when he made a detour into the Yakima, Washington area to help in an aerial search for a missing C-46 marine transport plane that was believed to have gone down in the area.
At around 3:00 in the afternoon, he was flying at about 9,000 feet, near Mount Rainier, when a flash of light caught his eye. He turned and saw a procession of nine very strange objects flying from north to south in front of his plane. They were flat and rather heel-shaped, very shiny, and they moved erratically, like a "saucer would if you skipped it across water." You can see Arnold's drawing of what he saw here. Arnold estimated their size at about two-thirds that of a DC-4, and he calculated their speed at over 1500 mph by timing their travel between two mountain peaks of known distance.
When he arrived at Yakima, Washington, Arnold told several other pilots about his sighting. The consensus among them was that it was some type of military "secret weapon". However, Arnold would later find that the U.S. military was as mystified by the objects as he himself was.
In Pendleton, Oregon, Arnold went to make a report to the FBI, but the local office was closed, so he talked to the editor of the East Oregonian newspaper instead and it was the editor who put the story on the newswires. Because of Arnold's background and reliability as a witness, the story got wide circulation. Here's Arnold's report in his own words.
What did Arnold see? Skeptics said everything from clouds to blowing snow on the mountain, to droplets of water on his airplane window. Here Martin Kottmeter shoots down some of the early theories of what Arnold saw. More recent explanations include Phil Klass' meteorite fragments and James Easton's white pelicans.
The June sighting and the resulting hoopla were not the end of Arnold's association with UFOs. On July 5th, 1947, Arnold was introduced to Captain E. J. Smith, who, along with his co-pilot and a stewardess, had seen a formation of UFOs over Emmett, Idaho. They hit it off well and became good friends.
In the middle of July, Arnold received a letter from Raymond Palmer, editor of the pulp magazine Amazing Stories. Arnold didn't know who Palmer was, since he didn't read the pulps. Palmer wanted Arnold to write down his experiences for publication in the magazine and he offered to pay. Arnold didn't particularly care about the money and sent Palmer a copy of what he had already told the newspapers and the Army Air Corps.
Later in July, a couple of Army Air Force intelligence officers named Lt. Frank M. Brown and Capt. William Davidson had a friendly meeting with Arnold. He gave them an account of his sighting and they asked him to report any further incidents to them. Lt. Brown filed a report giving his impression of Arnold's story. Arnold, Smith, Brown, Davidson, and Palmer were later to become involved in the Maury Island hoax.

The Hudson Valley Boomerang Sightings
The Hudson Valley Boomerang Sightings
Date: , 1981 Location: Hudson Valley, New York, United States
Between 1982 and 1995, more than seven thousand cases were investigated and documented by a team of investigators led by Philip J. Imbrogno, a high school science teacher and astronomer in Greenwich, Connecticut. The heaviest period was between the end of 1982 and 1986, when more than five thousand people reported seeing the object.

A good, brief overview of the Hudson Valley UFO sightings. "In a place you would hardly expect, just one hour north of New York City, lies the site of one of the most widely observed and yet most unexplainable set of UFO sightings ever seen. R
In the Hudson Valley area alone, there has been more than 7,000 reports of UFOs over the past seven years. To my surprise many people in the area felt that they had contact with a non-human intelligence from another world. R
The Hudson River valley of New York state was the site of one of the most widely witnessed and extended episodes of UFO activity ever.

Summary: An overview of the Hudson Valley sightings by Bob Pratt, co-author of Night Siege (with J. Allen Hynek and Philip Imbrogno), one of the primary books on these sightings.
Huge triangular or V-shaped UFOs have been reported countless times throughout the world over the past thirty to forty years, with one of the most active areas being the Hudson River Valley just north of New York City.
Sometimes called the “Westchester Boomerang” because some of the earliest reports came from Westchester County in New York State, it was huge and often flew close to the ground, so low that gray superstructure could be seen linking numerous multi-colored lights.
Numerous sightings were also reported in neighboring New York counties as well as in nearby Connecticut.
One awed witness, an IBM program manager, said: “If there is such a thing as a flying city, this was a flying city… It was huge.”
It was enormous, awesome and spectacular. It moved slowly and silently and was easily as big as a football field; some witnesses said as big as three football fields. That would make it anywhere from three hundred to nine hundred feet long, far larger than any aircraft manufactured in the world.
Thousands of people, many of them highly educated professionals, went on record as saying that the Boomerang was undeniably very real to them. The great majority of people interviewed had no previous interest in UFOs. They were taken completely by surprise.
FAA DENIED ANYTHING HAPPENED
Many witnesses were separated geographically and were unknown to each other at the time of the sightings. Police records show that countless residents phoned their local police stations in concern, and police officers themselves witnessed this strange spectacle.
From the nation's scientists, to whom these events should have been of breathtaking concern, nothing was heard.
Hundreds of people living in the affluent suburbs within commuting distance of one of the world's largest and most cosmopolitan cities were astonished, awestruck, and frightened by what they could only regard as a very bizarre event. But the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which monitors the air lanes through which the boomerang-shaped object flew repeatedly, persisted in denying its existence.
There may have been more than one object because several times sighting reports came in about the same time from towns some distance apart.
Witnesses came from all walks of life, including housewives, office workers, aircraft designers, truck drivers, construction workers, nurses, doctors, pilots, engineers, bookkeepers, technicians and scientists. Many skeptical police officers changed their minds when they saw the Boomerang themselves.
Many times it hovered or moved ever so slowly. Once, a man was able to jog underneath and keep up with it. At times it hovered or drifted very slowly over major expressways, causing traffic to come to a confused halt.
At other times it moved with incredible speed. One husband and wife said it was six stories tall and that it shot off to the far horizon and immediately came back to the same spot in barely a second.
One night, a policewoman sitting in her cruiser watching for speeders was astonished to see a string of white lights in a half-circle hover over her vehicle for twenty seconds. She was so surprised that she never thought to aim her radar gun at it.
UFO FLASHES LIGHT AT CROWD
In another town on another night, a policeman responding to a phone call found ten people standing watching a circle of flashing red, blue and green lights hovering about five hundred feet overhead. The object appeared to be three hundred feet wide.
The officer turned his spotlight on it – and the object immediately projected a brilliant flash of white light down on him and the spectators. Seconds later it shot off out of sight.
On the night of July 24, 1984, twelve security guards watched as a boomerang-shaped object hovered for more than ten minutes directly above one of the reactors of the Indian Point nuclear power plant. This is located on the Hudson River at Buchanan, twenty miles north of Manhattan.
It was so large that one officer had to pan a security camera on the plant’s roof 180 degrees to take in the whole object. Inside the security console, the computer that controlled all the security and communication systems shut down.
The incident was so shocking that the commander contacted a nearby National Guard unit and asked that a helicopter be sent to shoot the object down. Before the action could be carried out, the UFO moved away. Later, authorities denied anything happened.
During the unusually long period of sightings and encounters, numerous witnesses reported having had contact with some kind of extraterrestrial intelligence. More than sixty people said they had had been abducted, with women between the ages of twenty five and thirty representing the largest number of cases.
Philip Imbrogno reported that among witnesses who said they’d had multiple contacts, a very high percentage had B-negative type blood, although what the significance of that is has not yet be determined.
MEDIA REMAINS LARGELY SILENT
Initially, it was thought the Boomerang was seen primarily in the half dozen counties of New York and Connecticut immediately north of New York City. But later it was learned that the object had visited a much larger area to the west, north and east.
Sightings tapered off after the heavy 1982-1986 period but have never stopped. They have continued sporadically ever since.
The United States has perhaps the most extensive, sophisticated and freest mass communications system in the world. Trivial events are often flashed everywhere. Yet, news of this astounding happening was carried on only one network.
The American media has remained largely silent about this spectacular phenomenon, either from ignorance or, more likely, on purpose. Area newspapers, radio and television stations did carry stories, but there was little in the way of national coverage.
The authorities, for the most part, were no help. Some police departments were sympathetic to witnesses and investigators and some weren’t. A few were outright antagonistic.
The FAA denied anything unusual was happening in the skies over the Hudson Valley, even though some air traffic controllers privately acknowledged tracking unknown objects on radar.
Some authorities tried to explain the sightings as simply small planes flying in formation – even at times when strong winds were blowing – and even ultra lights, which rarely fly at night because it is too dangerous and are almost impossible to fly in formation.
Many people believed the Boomerang was a spaceship from another world. Wedo not know. We can only speculate.
It definitely was not a secret weapon, nor a hologram, nor a formation of planes, helicopters or blimps, nor, we believe, anything else man-made. There is no conventional explanation for the Hudson Valley UFO.
These investigations are described in two books, NIGHT SIEGE: The Hudson Valley UFO Sightings (Ballantine, 1987) by Dr. J. Allen Hynek, Philip J. Imbrogno and Bob Pratt, NIGHT SIEGE Second Edition (Llewellyn, 1998), and CONTACT OF THE FIFTH KIND, by Philip J. Imbrogno and Marianne Horrigan (Llewellyn, 1997).
