Historic Gravitational Waves Rippled, But Left No Fireworks
Historic Gravitational Waves Rippled, But Left No Fireworks
By Nola Taylor Redd, Space.com Contributor
Before confirmation of the first direct observation of gravitational waves rippled through the world, the search had already begun for visible signs of the event that generated the powerful waves in space.
Two separate groups scanned the sky in the region where the historic discovery originated, in hopes of spotting light generated by the event.
"This first attempt to detect visible light associated with gravitational waves was very challenging, but it paves the way to a whole new field of astrophysics," Edo Berger of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics said in a statement. [Stirred, Not Shaken - How Colliding Black Holes Make Waves]
Berger was the principal investigator of a team that used the 4-meter Blanco telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile to make a detailed search for the origination of the gravitational waves identified by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO).
Einstein's general theory of relativity predicts that the movement of massive bodies distorts the space-time through which they travel. Last week, scientists announced the first confirmed detection of such waves, produced by colliding black holes. The detection was kept under wraps until the results were verified and published in a scientific journal. But before announcing the news to the world, the scientists contacted two other teams already in place to follow up on any potential gravitational wave observations.
Berger's team made a detailed search of the region of sky where the preliminary signal was detected. The size of the area was daunting — 700 square degrees of sky, or about 2,800 times as large as the full moon — but astronomers combed the area thoroughly over a period of three weeks hoping to find a visible signal that corresponded to the crashing black holes. Although they did not detect any unusual bursts of visible light, their observations were used to place constraints on the brightness for future attempts.
At the same time, a second team used the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) in Hawaii to search for changes in the night sky. The instrument rapidly mapped the part of the sky where the signal originated. Computers then compared the new map to one made previously and identified any changed objects.
"We didn't find anything in our data that was likely related to the gravitational wave source," Stephen Smartt, director of the Astrophysics Research Centre at Queen's University Belfast and leader of the Pan-STARRS follow-up team, said in a separate statement. "We discovered over 50 new sources that are normal supernovae — exploding stars that we find all the time. We didn't see any hint of unusual behavior."
Back in September, researchers didn't yet know that the gravitational waves detected by LIGO were from two merging black holes, Berger told Space.com in an email. Black holes don't radiate light directly, and LIGO scientist Vicky Kalogera told Space.com that it seems unlikely there would be any matter near a black hole binary that would give off secondary light. But that doesn't mean people aren't looking.
There are "several new papers that come up with exotic scenarios" that could produce light from a double black hole merger, Berger said in an email.
"These papers are mainly driven by the LIGO discovery and I expect that more will show up in the coming days and weeks," he said. "Whether any of these theoretical ideas turn out to be correct is unclear at the present. We will continue to observe future [binary black hole] mergers from LIGO to find out."
Like the observations made at Cerro Tololo, the Pan-STARR search will give scientists a little more information about what happened when the pair of black holes collided. Both teams stand ready to search again when LIGO makes its next detection. Gravitational waves can come from other sources besides a double black hole mergers, like exploding stars or the collision of two neutron stars (the dense, left-over cores of dead stars). Scientists know that most of those scenarios will generate light that telescopes could potentially detect.
"LIGO has opened a brand-new field of astronomy, and confirmation from facilities like Pan-STARRS will be very important to understanding them," Pan-STARRS Director Ken Chambers, an astronomer at the University of Hawaii, said.
When I was young, the only planets we knew about were the ones in our own solar system.
Astronomers presumed that many of the other stars in the night sky had planets too, but this was sheer speculation. We could never know for sure, the thinking went, because such planets were ridiculously small and faint. To ever see or study them seemed a complete impossibility. "Extrasolar planets," or "exoplanets," were a staple of science fiction, but not of professional astrophysics.
But while the golden age of exoplanets has barely begun, an exciting additional chapter is also taking shape: the hunt for exomoons.
Beyond Earth-like planets to exomoons
An exomoon is a moon orbiting a planet, which in turn is orbiting another star. You may not have ever heard of exomoons before now. But if you're a fan of films such as "Avatar," "Return of the Jedi" or "Prometheus," this should be familiar territory: in all three cases, most of the action takes place on an exomoon.
But what about real life? How many exomoons do we know of? At the moment, zero.
But the race is on to find the real-life analogs of Endor and Pandora.
You might think searching for tiny rocks orbiting distant planets around faint stars hundreds or thousands of light years away is the ultimate example of an obscure academic pursuit. But exomoons are poised to become a big deal.
The whole reason exoplanets are exciting is that they're a path to answering one of the grandest questions of all: "Are we alone?" As we find more and more exoplanets, we eagerly ask whether life could exist there, and whether this planet is anything like Earth. However, so far we've yet to find an exact match to Earth, nor can we yet really know for sure whether any exoplanet, Earth-like or otherwise, hosts life.
Enter exomoons in the search for life
There are several reasons why exomoons, these little distant worlds, may be the key to finding life elsewhere in the universe.
The Earth's axis is tilted by 23.5 degrees relative to its motion around the sun. This tilt gives us seasons, and because this tilt is relatively small, seasons on Earth are mild: most places never get impossibly hot or unbearably cold. One thing that has been crucial for life is that this tilt has stayed the same for very long periods: for millions of years, the angle of tilt has varied by only a couple of degrees.
In contrast, Mars only has two tiny moons, which have negligible gravity. Without a stabilizing influence, Mars has gradually tumbled back and forth, its tilt ranging between 0 and 60 degrees over millions of years. Extreme changes in climate have resulted. Any Martian life that ever existed would have found the need to continually adapt very challenging.
Without our moon, the Earth, too, would likely have been subject to chaotic climate conditions, rather than the relative certainty of the seasons that stretches back deep into the fossil record.
Overall, as we continue to hunt for another Earth somewhere out there, it seems likely that a twin of Earth, but without a moon accompanying it, would not look familiar. Finding exomoons is a key part of finding somewhere like here.
Meanwhile, we shouldn't be discouraged by the fact that most exoplanets found so far are bloated gaseous beasts, with hostile environments unlikely to support life as we know it. What we don't know yet, crucially, is whether these exoplanets have moons. This prospect is exciting, because exomoons are expected to be smaller rocky or icy bodies, possibly hosting oceans and atmospheres.
This is hardly speculation: Titan (a moon of Saturn) has a thick atmosphere even denser than Earth's, while underground oceans are thought to exist on Enceladus (another moon of Saturn) and on Europa and Ganymede (both moons of Jupiter). Thus, if there is any other life out there somewhere, it may well not be found on a distant planet, but on a distant moon.
The hunt is on. While exomoons are too faint to see directly, astronomers are deploying ingenious indirect techniques in their searches. Those moons are assuredly out there by the billions – and soon we will find them. It won't be too much longer before these tiny worlds help us answer huge questions.

'Telescope' Documentary Gives Inspirational View of NASA's Next Space Telescope
'Telescope' Documentary Gives Inspirational View of NASA's Next Space Telescope
By Calla Cofield, Space.com Staff Writer
A new documentary airing on the Discovery Channel tomorrow (Feb. 20), looks at the construction of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, and its place in a long line of universe-changing instruments.
"Telescope," a one-hour documentary, features interviews with many of the scientists involved with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), and footage taken at NASA's Goddard Spaceflight Center, where the movie's director, Nathaniel Kahn, has been filming and doing research for about two years.
The documentary succeeds in a task that is often taken for granted in science-oriented communications: It generates excitement in its audience. Viewers who may not have heard of JWST prior to viewing the film will likely walk away with a newly ignited curiosity about this massive telescope, what it might reveal about the cosmos and how it might change humanity's view of our place in the universe. [Photos of Hubble's Successor, the James Webb Space Telescope]
The impact of telescopes
"It's hard to predict the impact that [JWST] will have [on astronomy], because I think it's going to be so big," Amber Straughn, an astrophysicist at NASA Goddard, told Space.com.
Straughn, who is interviewed in "Telescope," is an extragalactic physicist, which means that she studies how stars and black holes form in distant galaxies. JWST, which is scheduled to launch in 2018, will help scientists study the very first galaxies to ever form in the universe, Straughn said.
Scientists will often talk about the "impact" that a new instrument will have on science, or even on all of humanity. But illustrating that point and convincing an audience that it is true can be extremely difficult, either because the answer is long and complex, and takes time to sink in, or because the "impact" isn't necessarily relevant to the viewer.
"Telescope" succeeds in showing that the use of telescopes has affected all of humanity, not just scientists, by changing what we know about the universe and our place in it.
"People take for granted that [the telescope], more than any other instrument in the history of innovation, has changed our sense of ourselves," Kahn told Space.com in an interview. "And it's done it not once, but many, many times."
Examples of this that are brought up in the film include the fact that telescopes played a critical role in showing humans that the Earth is not the center of the universe (or even the solar system). It wasn't until the 20th century that scientists had telescopes powerful enough to reveal the presence of other galaxies, providing the first real grasp of just how mind-bogglingly huge the universe is. It was telescopes that revealed evidence of the Big Bang, which at least partly answered the question, "Where did we come from?" or at least, "How long have we been here?" It was telescopes that revealed the presence of planets around other stars, and telescopes that may answer the question, "Are we alone?"
"The history of telescopes is to teach us that we're not that special. It makes us less and less special every time we look at the universe and we learn there's much more out there than we thought before," Jason Kalirai, a project scientist for JWST says in the documentary.
Many documentaries cover this territory, but the central point can get lost amid too much additional information about the science or history of these events. "Telescope" doesn't bite off more than it can chew, or more than a "general" audience can swallow. While going over this telescopic history, it weaves in information about JWST, and illustrates how it will be another rung on this ladder from which humans can better see the size of the universe and their place in it.
The aspect of JWST's science plan that has just about everyone on the edge of his or her seat is the study of exoplanets, and specifically, their atmospheres. JWST is an important part of the journey toward answering the question, "Are we alone?" and it will do amazing things. But I do harbor some concern that the documentary overhypes JWST's exoplanet-studying abilities, especially whether or not it could identify signs of life on an exoplanet.Astrophysicist Sara Seager says in the film that for JWST to detect signs of life on an exoplanet (which depends partly on what the telescope can do and partly on what is out there for it to find), is like "winning the lottery five times." To be clear, that is an effective "No," and viewers shouldn't misunderstand those odds. On the other hand, maybe there's nothing wrong with playing the lottery once in a while; maybe hoping for extreme odds is even essential in order for people to willingly invest in major projects like this one.
Thankfully, JWST has much higher odds for what it will accomplish in other scientific pursuits, such as studying the very first galaxies to form in the universe. Because the light from the most distant galaxies in the universe takes billions of years to reach Earth, scientists see those galaxies as they looked billions of years ago — meaning that in some cases, the scientists will be able to see the very first galaxies in the universe, just as they were in the very early stages of their formation.
"The goal of studying those early galaxies is to sort of put together a picture or a story over time," Straughn told Space.com. "You're trying to progressively see how galaxies change over time. … We know that the earliest galaxies must be different from galaxies in the present-day universe."
Only hydrogen and helium (plus very small traces of a few other elements) existed in the early universe, so the first stars must have been made purely of hydrogen and helium. What kind of impact would that have had on how those galaxies looked and how they evolved?
"That epic of the first stars and galaxies is really what we're after with JWST," Straughn said.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
"The really great thing about telescopes like Webb is that they're such general-purpose observatories," Straughn said. "It's an observatory that will cover the entire breadth of the universe, from our own cosmic backyard of the solar system, all the way out to the most distant things that we can't even see yet."
The segments featuring people like Straughn, who speaks passionately and excitedly about JWST, are another strong point of "Telescope," and another element of science documentaries that can be taken for granted.
"As a documentary filmmaker, what you look for is people who are able to talk about what they know about, but who are also able to convey their humanity," Kahn told Space.com. Referring to the scientists he interviewed for the documentary, Kahn said, "Their passion [for] their subject and their life study is so infectious and so wonderful. When you start to probe that part of the scientists' minds and hearts, you suddenly open up this wellspring of marvelous drama, which is very exciting from a filmmaking standpoint to get at. Too often, science programming is trying to get all the information in — which is terribly important, we have to get that, too — but sometimes the emotion of the scientists themselves doesn't make it."
Kahn is an amateur telescope maker, and he got to know Matt Mountain because of his homemade telescope. Mountain, among other things, is the telescope scientist for JWST, and he is featured prominently in the film. Kahn began filming at Goddard two years ago, he said. During that time, he received some funding from the Northrop Grumman Foundation (Northrop Grumman is NASA's primary contractor for building JWST). Kahn began development of the documentary with Discovery channel about a year ago, a Discovery representative said.
"Telescope" is a well-done promotion for JWST that will convey to just about any viewer the reasons why people, not just scientists, should be excited about this instrument. While it is not an in-depth look at the science, technology or history of JWST, it does discuss the many, many ways that the mission could fail — for example, the telescope has to unfold from its cramped payload fairing, unfurling like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon. If any part of that unfolding process goes wrong, the telescope could be effectively useless. In addition, it orbits too far from home to be repaired by a space shuttle mission (if there were still any space shuttles). And the documentary does not pursue this question any further: What would it mean for NASA if an overbudget, multibillion-dollar project did not operate optimally, or not at all?
But those are heavy questions, and the consequences of a mission failure are best-explored when the potential benefits of the mission are fully understood as well. As I've said before in this essay, the ability to fully convey the potential awesomeness that JWST could beam down to Earth is not always easy. If "Telescope" seems like a simple look at this mission, it's because sometimes the simplest things take the most care to convey.
"I think to reach out into the dark and to discover things, one has to take risks," Kahn said. "I think that that's what great nations do, and what great scientists do: take risks. So of course it’s a high-stakes mission. But nothing dared, nothing gained.
"I think that it is missions like this that teach us to be bold, Kahn said. "Observing these people working together — it's given me courage, really honestly, in my own life. It's given me courage to be bold. Because I think that when you see people willing to spend years of their lives to build something that pushes the limits of what is possible, it's infectious. It's not enough to just get by. It's not enough to do what you did before. You have to push the limit of what you yourself are capable of," Kahn said.
"Telescope" will air on the Discovery Channel on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 9 p.m./8 p.m. Central. Check local listings.
Continuing what seems to be a spate of strange events afflicting small towns lately, residents of Forest Grove, Oregon are being tormented by a mysterious sound that no one can seem to identify.
The incredibly loud, prolonged wail almost defies description, making it all the more befuddling and maddening as it randomly erupts during the day and night.
Those who have been victims of the obnoxious noise say that it has been happening for weeks, disrupting their sleep and generally being an enormous nuisance.
A myriad of theories have been offered as to the origin of the sound, including a gas leak alarm or a train, but these possibilities have been ruled out by local officials.
Up until now, authorities have been forced to rely only on the accounts of witnesses who were unlucky enough to have experienced 'the sound.'
However, one resident in the area managed to record the now-infamous noise, which should hopefully lead to someone being able to identify it.
Until that happens and, more importantly, the noise can be stopped, it appears that residents of Forest Grove will have to keep enduring the acoustic anomaly and offering guesses as to what it might be.
Whether they have it better or worse than the folks in Niagara Falls who keep hearing the Iowa Fight song on a continuous loop depends on which type of torture you prefer
Earth and the far side of the moon, where the Apollo astronauts encountered the strange music-like radio transmissions.
The crew of an Apollo mission to the moon were so startled when they encountered strange music-like radio transmissions coming through their headsets, they didn't know whether or not to report it to NASA, it's been revealed.
It was 1969, two months before Apollo 11's historic first manned landing on the moon, when Apollo 10 entered lunar orbit, which included traversing the far side of the moon when all spacecraft are out of radio contact with Earth for about an hour and nobody on Earth can see or hear them.
As far as the public knew, everything about the mission went smoothly.
Almost four decades went by before lost recordings emerged that revealed something unsettling that the three Apollo astronauts had experienced while flying above the far side of the moon.
The taped recordings contained "strange, otherworldly music coming through the Apollo module's radio," according to the upcoming Science Channel series, "NASA's Unexplained Files."
The conversation between the three astronauts indicated they heard sounds like they had never heard before:
"It sounds like, you know, outer space-type music."
"You hear that? That whistling sound? Whooooooooo!"
"Well, that sure is weird music!"
The unexplained "music" transmission lasted almost an hour, and just before the astronauts regained radio contact with Earth, they discussed whether or not to tell Mission Control what they had experienced:
"It's unbelievable! You know?"
"Shall we tell them about it?"
"I don't know. We ought to think about it."
"The Apollo 10 crew was very used to the kind of noise that they should be hearing. Logic tells me that if there was something recorded on there, then there was something there," Apollo 15 astronaut Al Worden says on the Science Channel program. "NASA would withhold information from the public if they thought it was in the public's best interest."
The transcripts of the Apollo 10 mission were classified and untouched in NASA's archives until 2008, producing an ongoing debate as to the nature and origin of the strange sounds heard by the astronauts.
"You don't hear about anything like that until years after the incident occurs, and then you kind of wonder, because it's such an old memory of those things that you get concerned about if they were making something up or was there something really there? Because you never really know," Worden told The Huffington Post.
"If you're behind the moon and hear some weird noise on your radio, and you know you're blocked from the Earth, then what could you possibly think?" Worden said.
"We'd had a lot of incidents where guys who flew in space saw and heard things that they didn't recognize, and you wonder about all of that. I have a very open mind about what could've happened. It's somebody's hearsay evidence -- it's only a visual or audio event, which is hard to pin down. Recollection is one thing, but actual proof is something entirely different."
Watch this entire incident unfold on Science Channel's "NASA's Unexplained Files." A sneak preview of the the third season premieres Sunday, Feb. 21 at 10 p.m. and the regular season returns Feb. 23. Check your local listings.
If there really are aliens out there, we sure do spot a lot of them in Wales
If there really are aliens out there, we sure do spot a lot of them in Wales
There have been 25 UFO sightings logged with the Mutual UFO Network (Mufon) in Wales since January 2015.
The sightings range from a white dot travelling three times faster than a jet, to a craft as wide as a street, to a grounded UFO in a field near the RAF base at St Athan... according to the people who say they have spotted them.
And although many are sceptical about whether strange white dots in the sky are anything more than unexplained matter floating through the atmosphere, the descriptions are certainly intriguing.
One sighting in Ebbw Vale on May 13, 2015, described an object that seemed to separate and join together again before disappearing with an orange tail.
'I locked the door just in case'
Another sighting, in Conwy on September 27, involved two bright orbs which were photographed through a window.
The witness, who reported it to Mufon, said: “I was at home looking after the dog. I looked up to look at the moon. I saw the two objects and thought it was weird so I took a picture. I then shut the blinds and locked the door just in case.”
'There was barely, if any, noise'
On May 21, a Cardiff resident said they saw a UFO with a wingspan “nearly the width of the street”.
“I saw there was another identical one just behind it that appeared to be following it.
“There was barely any, if any, noise.
“I was transfixed as they were so big. I was the only car driving down the street and it/they must have seen me.”
There are no photographs of this sighting, but the witness did manage to draw a helpful sketch.
A witness from Pontypool also had a spooky experience after taking a picture of the night sky on February 21 last year.
When they looked at the photo later, they said they saw a strange hovering object below the moon.

Top Secret UK Documents Which Prove ‘Aliens EXIST’ To Be Released In Days?
Top Secret UK Documents Which Prove ‘Aliens EXIST’ To Be Released In Days?
Apparently confidential government reports into UFO sightings – dubbed the “British X-Files” – could be made publicly available within days!
The long-awaited boost for alien hunters follows years of campaigning by the British disclosure movement, who want all world Governments to release all their alien files.
UFO researchers, backed by a House of Lords peer, have been fighting for the release of 18 top secret Ministry of Defence (MoD) files about UFO sightings from more than 30 years ago.
The Government faced claims of a cover-up from conspiracy theorists when their release was stalled at the end of 2013.
Some investigators claim the files could provide key evidence of extra-terrestrial life visiting the UK and of specific information about famous controversial sightings such as the Rendlesham Forest incident – a series of reported sightings of unexplained lights and the alleged landing of one or more craft in Suffolk in late December 1980.
Lord Black of Brentwood, who asked the Government for an update through a Parliamentary question last summer, was assured the files would be released by the MoD to the National Archives by March this year.
This could very well be HUGE news for Disclosure – A huge can of worms is about to be opened it appears!
The top-secret files could be declassified within days
This very long-awaited boost for Truth seekers follows years of campaigning by the British disclosure movement, who want all world Governments to release all their alien files.
Leading UFO researchers, backed by a House of Lords peer, have been fighting for the release of 18 top secret Ministry of Defence (MoD) files about UFO sightings from more than 30 years ago!
The British Government faced claims of a cover-up from conspiracy theorists when their release was stalled way back at the end of 2013.
Many leading investigators and researchers believe that these important files could provide key evidence of extra-terrestrial life visiting the UK and of specific information about famous controversial sightings such as the Rendlesham Forest incident – which is a series of reported sightings of unexplained lights and the alleged landing of one or more craft in Suffolk in late December 1980.
Lord Black of Brentwood, who asked the Government for an update through a Parliamentary question last summer, was assured the files would be released by the MoD to the National Archives by March this year – BUT will they stick to this promise!?
Lord Black of Brentwood DEMANDS the truth from the UK Government about the UFO’s in the skies above us!
Truth Seekers around the world are VERY confident that these records could very well prove if extra-terrestrial life actually exists, as these are the most secretive files held in the private offices of various Cabinet ministers – Although the files are being released to the National Archives, it is not yet clear when they will be available for public inspection and many people expect intentional delays, this is because the archive organisation can set its own release date!
In his Parliamentary question, Lord Black asked:
“What is the latest estimate of when the 18 files will be passed to the National Archives, and then released to the public.” He said.
Defence Minister Earl Howe replied:
“The latest estimate of when the 18 files will be delivered to the National Archives is before March 2016.
“The National Archives will make the necessary judgement about when they release these files to the public.”
A large number of older UFO files held by the UK government have already been released, including details of sightings by officials and police.
U.I.P’s friend Nick Pope, who actually used to investigate the existence of UFOs for the MoD, said the files should contain some extremely fascinating sightings.
However, referring to what is often called the most famous UFO claim in history – sparked by claims an alien spaceship crashed in New Mexico, US, in 1947 – Nick Pope added the soon-to-be-released files are probably not a “UK Roswell-style UFO in a hangar style cover up”.
When the release of the files were stalled in 2014, which the MoD blamed on “additional processing requirements”, Mr Pope sympathised with alien researchers and also believed that these were potential ‘delaying tactics’.
He said at the time:
“This massive delay will have conspiracy theorists up in arms. It looks like the MoD is stalling.
“The suspicion will be that there’s a bombshell in these files and that the Ministry does not know how to handle it.
“I can understand why conspiracy theorists will be angry and suspicious.”
Nick Pope also demands the TRUTH.
Nick Pope worked for the British MoD for at least 21 years, but was specifically assigned to investigate UFOs for an intriguing three-year period!
He said:
“Having worked on the MoD’s UFO project I’m sorry to say that we don’t have any crashed spaceships hidden away in some RAF hangar, as some believe, but we do have some fascinating and unexplained cases in our files.”
The ‘Redlesham Forest incident’, which is alleged to have taken place near RAF Woodbridge, Suffolk, in 1980, saw US Airman First Class John Burroughs, who was stationed there, exposed to radiation after a mystery “UFO visitation”.
He has since won damages from the American military, but still wants answers about what happened and hopes they will be in the new files.
Pat Frascogna, his lawyer, said:
“We know there is information contained in these MoD files about the Rendlesham Forest incident because the MoD clearly indicated so in responding to a Freedom of Information request by John Burroughs last year.”
Check out this incredible sighting at Rendlesham recently involving a British Apache Gunship and an Orb:

Stealth Alien Invasion Of Earth Under Way?
Stealth Alien Invasion Of Earth Under Way?
Recent multiple reports of mysterious glowing orbs dropping “landing pods” over locations across the U.S. have caused UFO researchers to raise the alarm that a stealth invasion of Earth by possibly hostile alien races could be under way.
The rumors intensified after the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), a U.S.-based organization that reports and documents alien and UFO sightings, received a slew of disturbingly similar reports from across the U.S. in which witnesses sighted and filmed glowing or flashing orbs hovering over the sky and releasing or dropping smaller orbs that fall to the ground.
Members of the alien and UFO community claim that the remarkably similar reports by unrelated witnesses from across the country provide convincing evidence that alien invaders are secretly planting and building up sleeper cells across the country in anticipation of a possibly pre-determined D-Day.
Open Minds-TV, a UFO reporting website linked with MUFON, recently reported an incident in which a stealth orb UFO was observed dropping a “landing pod” pod over Boise, Idaho (see video above).
The incident was reported by at least three unrelated witnesses, whose identical and mutually corroborating accounts prove the authenticity of the sighting, according to UFO enthusiasts.
In the first of the three independent reports filed as Case 52934 in the reporting database of MUFON, a witness driving home with his wife on December 24, 2013, looked up and saw a glowing red UFO in the sky. He drew his wife’s attention to the clearly visible red and glowing object in the sky, and she suggested that they pull over and observe.

Alles is eerder gebeurd. Wat wij meemaken is niet uniek voor deze wereld.
In 1969, two months before Apollo 11′s first manned landing on the moon, the crew of Apollo 10, Tom Stafford, Gene Cernan, and John Young become only the second crew in history to journey behind the far side of the Moon.
During this period of ‘LOS’ (Loss Of Signal), the astronauts encounter something truly incredible as they heard mysterious music-like radio transmissions.
Almost 40 years went by before lost recordings emerged and remarkable these tapes recordings contained besides the conversation between the astronauts also the mysterious ‘outer space’ music’ coming through the Apollo module’s radio.
Throughout the Apollo program, the CSM and LM spacecraft carried what were known as DSE and DSEA ‘black box’ flight data recorders. These instruments recorded the internal LM and CSM crew conversations while the astronauts were around the lunar far side and out of radio contact with Earth.
Here is an excerpt from the Apollo 10 DSEA audio transcript.
LMP You hear that? That whistling sound? That music even sounds outer-spaeey, doesn’t it? CDR Yes. LMP Whooooooo. Say your.. CMP Did you hear that whistling sound, too? LMP Yes. TRIANGLE CLOSE ENCOUNTER NEAR THE FLORIDA STATE LINE
AUGUST 10, 2014 ………… CHATHAM GEORGIA
My main purpose is to see if anyone else witnessed what I did, if someone could contact and let me know that would be great, also I could fill you in on better details, sorry for the spelling and grammar mistakes in advance. It was between the dates of august 5-10 of 2014, somewhere south bound between Savannah GA. And Jacksonville fl. On 95 south, sometime after midnight, no later then 1:30 am . The whole thing is strange , the sighting and my reaction to it, plus the event’s afterwards.
So I’m driving south bound on 95 there is no traffic from either direction and above the highway is a bright white light. At first thought it might be a helicopter or something, but quickly realized that is was not, the light was very bright. I turned my radio off, and began to slow down thinking something had to be going on up ahead on the road or air.
As I got closer the light just got bigger and brighter, too blinding to make out what it could be, but as I began to drive under the light I could see the underside of a large airplane sized triangle with three neon blue colored doughnut shaped lights. I was looking up through my windshield of my car while passing under the triangle and i could see this thing very clearly, it was only right over the highway directly over my car, but when I was driving towards it before going under it, all I could see was a bright light, never expected to be passing directly under a triangle. I immediately pulled over and by the time I came to a full stop and looked back and up it was gone, not a trace, and strangely I just drove off . I felt very calm, but at the same time something was not right. I felt like I was being watched or followed, just very strange feelings, and even now after all this time, a lot of strange things, ill talk more about that stuff another time, just a lot of unanswered questions, and feelings I cant begin to explain in text, so just have to report this in hopes of answers, and other witnesses. .. sincerely Christopher.
