Hypersonic Missiles May Be a Reality in the Next Decade

The United States Air Force is developing hypersonic technology, and hypersonic missiles are expected in the next decade. Faster-than-sound drones and even manned vehicles may be a reality in the decades beyond.

Exploring the Hypersonic Frontier

After a half-century hiatus, hypersonic research is about to make a comeback in a big way.  And that means super-fast missiles, surveillance drones, and even manned vehicles.

As early as 2020, the Air Force may have a series of prototypes ready for shakedown tests and operational experiments.  According to Major General Thomas Masiello, commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory, the focus will be on incremental, progressive steps building to a viable infrastructure for hypersonic technology.

This represents a more prudent, restrained approach for the Air Force, in contrast to earlier attempts that aimed for a kind of spectacular “moonshot” to create a manned hypersonic system all at once.

“We’re looking for more singles, base hits, versus trying to go for a home run,” Maj. Gen. Masiello explains.

For example, in recent years, the Air Force has been experimenting with the X-51, a hypersonic cruise missile.  Four test flights were conducted, with only a 50-50 success rate.  Not terrible, but not great either; however, Maj. Gen. Masiello sees the two failed flights as more instructive and ultimately fruitful than the successes.  “You have to build an environment that allows failure, because if you don’t, you’re not going to be pushing the boundaries of technology.”

So the failures have contributed to a greater understanding of the significant challenges attending hypersonic research.  It means we’re getting closer to a functional, reliable hypersonic engine.

The Future of Warfare

Further down the road, in the 2030s (it is estimated), the technology will have matured from merely delivering warheads, to hypersonic autonomous surveillance and even armed drones, and fast, high-flying reconnaissance flights.

An even greater development would see manned fighters, bombers, and other Air Force assets outfitted with hypersonic engines, which could usher in a revolution in strategic warfare.  Aircraft carriers, for instance, the backbone of American military might, would be rendered obsolete; floating air bases would no longer be required, since virtually anywhere in the world would be directly accessible in only a few hours from any land base in the United States.

Of course, that raises the specter of other powers developing the same technology, and having the same long reach and strategic capability.  The United States is not the only player at the hypersonic game.  Russia and China have their own programs underway, and it’s understandable why: it would change the strategic arithmetic.

America once led the way in hypersonic research, but the X-15 program was abandoned in the 1960s, and allowed to languish.  So the new programs by the Air Force, if belated, are very welcome to the nation’s war-planners.

“Hypersonic capabilities are inevitable, they are going to happen,” Maj. Gen. Masiello warns.  “If they don’t happen in the United States, they will happen in other countries first.”

Physicist Gerald Jackson thinks he can build an antimatter drive capable of taking us to the stars in less than a decade; all that’s needed is a little ready cash. To that end, his company, Hbar Technologies, is crowdfunding this lofty ambition with a Kickstarter campaign.

Have Antimatter, Will Travel

Gerald Jackson, a former physicist at Fermilab, has a big dream. He thinks that, given unlimited funds, we could have a fully demonstrable, antimatter-propelled spacecraft prototype ready in less than a decade.

But since he doesn’t possess unlimited economic resources, and since the likelihood of any government underwriting a prohibitively expensive program in antimatter propulsion technology is pretty remote, he’s decided to turn to the guerrilla funding tactics of the 21st century: He’s starting a Kickstarter campaign.

The idea is to raise $200,000 to crowdfund initial antimatter propulsion research for Jackson’s company, Hbar Technologies.

It’s an ambitious goal, but the potential rewards are staggering.  The creation of a functional antimatter engine would mean drastically reduced travel times for space probes, both within the solar system and in the interstellar spaces beyond.  With potential velocities of 40% of the speed of light, it would mean that the stars would suddenly come within our reach; a journey lasting as long as the voyage of the New Horizons probe to Pluto would take us, not merely to the outermost bodies in our solar system, but to whole systems of planets circling nearby stars.

Some experts assert that a more realistic estimate of such a spacecraft’s speed would be about 0.10c (10% of the speed of light), but even this would represent a fantastic speed that is utterly beyond anything we have today, and it would still put a probe in the Alpha Centauri system (the closest alien system to our own) in just 40 years.

The problem is twofold: devising a lightweight propulsion system that doesn’t outweigh the payload by orders of magnitude; and actually getting one’s hands on significant enough quantities of antimatter, a notoriously difficult substance to come across (which, incidentally, is fortunate for those of us made of normal matter).

Jackson thinks he has a solution to the first problem.  “[M]y Hbar partner, physicist Steven Howe, and I came up with a very light propulsion system whose mass was comparative to the payload—an antimatter sail,” he explains.

Making antimatter

As far as the antimatter production problem—that may be a bit more difficult.  Antimatter on Earth can only be found where humans have created it, deep in the hearts of the world’s most powerful particle accelerators—one antiproton at a time.

Jackson and Howe estimated that only 17 grams of antihydrogen would be required to power their antimatter drive, which doesn’t sound like much; however, less than one gram of the stuff has been produced, and none of it has been contained for much more than a day.  So to sum: It’s very difficult to store, and its production would require a multi-billion dollar particle collider solely dedicated to churning out antimatter day after day—a fantastically expensive project.

Still, Jackson continues to dream, and it is of such stuff that the future is built.  He thinks he’s solved the containment issue, and he wants cash to build a proof-of-concept.  The rest, he hopes, will follow in due time.

Meet The Craft

Briefly, the spacecraft design outlined by Jackson and Howe is as follows—the probe will consist of four parts: A carbon “sail” coated with depleted uranium, a storage unit containing the requisite antihydrogen in solid form, an antiproton-powered electrical energy system, and a robotic imaging and instrument package (the science payload).

The actual motive principle behind the antimatter drive is a curious one.  The antihydrogen is used to induce fission, and will produce 2 GeV (2 billion electron volts) of power—far in excess of anything standard chemical rockets generate.  Upon striking a depleted uranium foil within the spacecraft, the antiprotons cause the uranium to fission, producing two “daughter” byproducts which are emitted in opposite directions.

One of these byproducts slams into the uranium-coated sail, imparting its momentum to it like wind bellying the cloth sails of a terrestrial clipper ship.  The other byproduct is exhausted like a conventional rocket propellant—that process of “leaving something behind” quoted in the film Interstellar as the only way mankind has ever found of getting from one place to another in space.  So there are really two propulsive engines at work simultaneously, which (theoretically) cause the spacecraft to accelerate rapidly to appreciable fractions of the speed of light.

It’s an interesting proposal, and well worth investigation.  Perhaps, with Kickstarter funding, Jackson and Howe can start the serious business of making this science fictional technology a reality. That said, they estimate a further $100 million is needed to develop an Earth-based test to prove that the technology actually works…so that may only be something our progeny get to see.

“Crowdfunding may be a good way to show interest in the project when it comes time to find bigger investors or governmental support,” says Jackson.

After that, with sufficient will, and a couple of billion dollars burning a hole in one’s pocket, dispatching antimatter probes capable of 0.40c to the near stars shouldn’t be a problem at all.

The KGB Discovers Mummified Body of Ancient Alien ‘God’

In 1961, the KGB launched Project ISIS, a top-secret program designed to obtain alien technology. It culminated with the discovery of a 13,000 year-old alien body inside a tomb in the Giza Plateau in Egypt.

 

In the early years of the Cold War, Russian military officials feared the United States had gained a tactical advantage through reverse-engineering alien technology, presumably by studying UFOs such as the one that crashed near Roswell. Determined to possess advanced technology themselves, the Russians used their intelligence services to locate several places where extraterrestrial artifacts might be found.

 

 

One of these places was an ancient tomb located in the Giza Plateau in Egypt. They based their search on an old legend about the Tomb of the Visitor God.

 

As the story goes, two Bedouins accidentally stumbled upon the ancient resting place of an alien visitor. Immediately after entering the tomb, the two men fell ill and were hospitalized. Before they succumbed to the mysterious illness, they were able to give details about the tomb’s whereabouts.

 

The Egyptian authorities traded this information with their Russian allies, who wanted to reach the Tomb of the Visitor God before the CIA found out about it. As a result, they quickly organized a Project ISIS expedition. A group of Soviet Egyptologists, scientists and military personnel were assisted by their Egyptian counterparts in locating the tomb. This information is verified by Russian scientist Viktor Ivanvich, who had access to classified KGB documents:

 

There is no doubt that a small group of Russian scientists with military experts have discovered a tomb in Egypt in 1961. But in the documents it has never been revealed exactly what was found inside the sarcophagus. Only sources of the highest ranks of the KGB know that we have found the remains of an alien creature that died in Egypt 10,000 before Christ.”

 

The Russian-Egyptian expedition managed to uncover the tomb and reportedly secured numerous artifacts. According to a report to a senior officer of the KGB, 15 boxes of artifacts were taken from the Tomb of the Visitor God.

 

 

Hieroglyphic inscriptions were copied and translated. Among the inscriptions was a prophecy foretelling about the return of a winged alien god. The report also mentions the presence of a protective barrier:

 

During the inspection of the walls we noticed a strange repulsive force coming out of the walls. We could not find any scientific explanation.”

We thought we were finally getting a basic understanding of Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) as rare and one-off events, and then Mother Nature decides to throw us a curve ball and hit us with the first repeating FRB.

The source, FRB 121102, was discovered first in 2012. Last year, an international team of researchers used the Arecibo Observatory radio telescope to look at the same region and they were surprised to find 10 additional bursts. As cataclysmic events don’t repeat themselves, the team believes that these bursts were produced by a highly magnetized, extragalactic neutron star.

FRBs were only discovered about a decade ago, and there are only a handful of known examples. These phenomena are isolated and rare, making it very difficult for scientists to understand their causes. The emission regions are estimated to be just a few hundred kilometers across, and it is thought that these signals are from another galaxy. These two qualities indicate that whatever is behind these events must be very bright.

Hypernovae and colliding binary neutron stars, or even black holes, have all been proposed as potential explanations. These events are all incredibly powerful but they would be a one-off occurrence, not a multiple-burst event like the one observed.

"Not only did these bursts repeat, but their brightness and spectra also differ from those of other FRBs," notes Laura Spitler, first author of the new paper, in a statement.

The research, published in Nature, comes in a big week for FRBs. Last week it was announced that scientists had pinpointed the location of an FRB for the first time, but now that claim is being questioned. Being able to pinpoint the exact location is paramount to understanding better these astrophysical events. To find the exact location of this unusual burst event, scientists will need to study the source in more detail.

"Once we have precisely localized the repeater's position on the sky, we will be able to compare observations from optical and X-ray telescopes and see if there is a galaxy there," says Jason Hessels, associate professor at the University of Amsterdam and the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy. "Finding the host galaxy of this source is critical to understanding its properties."

Blue Origin: Quiet Plans for Spaceships

Blue Origin is a company best known for being the first in the world to successfully land a reusable rocket on a landing pad. As of early 2016, the company has flown and landed a reusable rocket twice in space; in fact, it was the same rocket making the journey.

Aboard each flight was a prototype of the New Shepard spacecraft, which will carry up to six people and will be used for suborbital flights into space. The firm has funding from Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos. Previously, NASA provided Blue Origin with more than $25 million in contracts (payment was based upon milestones completed) for the Commercial Crew Development program, which is working to develop privately funded space vehicles to bring people to the International Space Station. Ultimately, however, NASA chose to support SpaceX's Dragon and Boeing's CST-100 spacecraft for the flights.

Quiet beginnings

Blue Origin is known in the space industry for not releasing much information about its flights and aspirations ahead of time, unlike companies such as SpaceX and Virgin Galactic. Blue Origin was registered as a company in 2000, and first made it into public attention in 2006 after Bezos made a series of land purchases in Texas.

According to the Wall Street Journal, these purchases were made under names such as "James Cook L.P.," "Jolliet Holdings," "Coronado Ventures," and "Cabot Enterprises," which all traced back to the same address. The corporate names, incidentally, all were based on famous explorers.

In January 2007, according to MSNBC, Blue Origin's website opened for business, featuring videos and photos from such milestones such as a November 2006 test flight.

Blue Origin received two rounds of funding from NASA: $3.7 million in 2010 for the first round of the Commercial Crew Program, and $22 million for the second round in 2011.

The company's most major disclosed setback came in 2011, when it lost a development vehicle around 45,000 feet during a flight test.

"A flight instability drove an angle of attack that triggered our range safety system to terminate thrust on the vehicle. Not the outcome any of us wanted, but we're signed up for this to be hard," wrote Bezos in a Sept. 2, 2011, update to the company's website.

He added that the company was already working on another development vehicle. The next "short hop" took place in November that year.

October 2012 saw tests of the crew capsule escape system; the company dubbed the event "a great day in Texas" on its website. The system soared to 2,307 feet (703 meters) before returning by parachute.

"The progress Blue Origin has made on its suborbital and orbital capabilities really is encouraging for the overall future of human spaceflight," NASA Commercial Crew Program manager Ed Mango said in a statement. "It was awesome to see a spacecraft NASA played a role in developing take flight."

However, as the Commercial Crew program continued, NASA chose rival systems SpaceX Dragon and Boeing CST-100 to provide crew flights to the International Space Station. This left Blue Origin reliant on finding other customers to eventually support its work.

Reusable rocket flights

One of the frontiers of space exploration right now is creating reusable rockets. SpaceX is another company that has been working on the concept for years, but Blue Origin beat them to the punch in landing on solid ground several weeks before SpaceX.

On Nov. 23, 2015, New Shepard flew just past the boundary of space (62.4 miles, or 100.5 kilometers). The rocket and vehicle separated as usual, but the rocket did not fall back to Earth. Instead, it moved toward a landing pad and softly touched down with the assistance of its engines.

"Rockets have always been expendable. Not anymore," stated a blog post on the company's website written by Bezos. "Now safely tucked away at our launch site in West Texas is the rarest of beasts, a used rocket. This flight validates our vehicle architecture and design."

SpaceX landed its Falcon 9 rocket successfully on land in December. Then Blue Origin followed up its world first on Jan. 22, sending the same New Shepard rocket and a vehicle up into space to 63.2 miles or 101.7 km. Following the flight, Bezos wrote that the company may soon have plans to share for a more powerful orbital system.

“We’re already more than three years into development of our first orbital vehicle," he wrote. "Though it will be the small vehicle in our orbital family, it’s still many times larger than New Shepard. I hope to share details about this first orbital vehicle this year."

Witness report: i see things in the sky regularly in richmond nsw australia ,i was filming and taking pictures of the chem trails over my house,i was on facebook and looking for a cover pic to post, so i decided to post one of the chem trails as i was searching for one that did not have my house in the picture , i zoomed in to look at the planet next to the sun then i look over to the right and saw a object, so i took a closer look and saw it was a UFO, if you look above the sun on the right you will see it last year my youngest child and myself saw two ufos they looked like cheese burgers with windows i didn’t get a pic of that sorry but will next time i did film a cat in the sky well it is a face it looks like a cat or alien i put on YouTube last year will have to find the original file i have a few

And noticed this particular object when zooming the picture at the rainbow to see if the picture I took was okay.
It had just stopped raining but noting was flying around I mean like jets.I just cut the original picture to locate the object to what I refereeing to.
This place 25-30 kms south of Muscat International Airport.

Australian UFO Sightings Are On The Rise‏

Through the course of 2015 there has been an increase in ufo sightings in Australia.
The start of the year had a great photograph from a government storm watch time lapse camera outside Boonah in southeast Queensland. The disc is a high altitude and an excellent capture and impossible to debunk.

As the year progress there where a couple of excellent captures of orbs in quick succession from separate sources of what I believe is the same craft.
The interesting thing of these two sightings is they are similar to a sighting and capture made by MWV from England.

Then as the year progressed there was  amazing footage released of an orb moving across the sky. Then the release in Australia of the DOJO film Australian skies.
I’m always interested in seeing new material and being a Aussie how could I not have a look at this home-grown documentary.

Firstly this film is about Damien Mott from the perspective of Don Meers. Damien is what is described as a photographic contactee who has 300 to 350 ufo events. He recalls from his early childhood being followed by red orbs and witnessed these orbs on dozens of occasions through his lifetime. He has also captured on video and photographed more frequently the bright white orbs we all know.

Daniel travels from his home town Duneedo in New South Wales to southeast Queensland glasshouse mountains and bribe island. A beautiful area. Don Myers director objective is to interview Damien and other witnesses and hopefully have an experience of his own. During the film they do a few night watches for craft  and show some excellent footage taken by Damien.

I made contact with Damien and he was kind enough to issue a statement exclusive to U.I.P

“My interest in the subject of UFOs and the paranormal began back in 1988 after an up close and personal sighting of a glowing red spherical object about 20 ft. above my head. This particular sighting, along with a sighting I had with my step-brothers when I was twelve, launched me into a world of fascination and intrigue with anything related to the phenomenon. Over the past 26 years I have been reading and researching everything and anything that is related to the subject, while sporadically witnessing anomalous lights and even ghost related phenomena at home”. He said.

“I moved to a property in a place called Dunedoo N.S.W. for ten months back in August of 2012. The anomalous action really started to pick up around this time. Soon enough I purchased a camera and began to film the objects that myself and other members of the community were witnessing. People were soon coming in from all over Australia to witness the ‘lights’ for themselves. Journalists from the Sun Herald newspaper also witnessed two lights travelling together across the sky on our property and wrote a story about it. The phenomenon was also witnessed by Presidents of UFO research groups, police officers and pilots. My story appeared on Channel 7 news, Today Tonight (Current Affairs Program), Channel 9’s Today Show live and Sunrise on Channel 7”. 

“After moving to Taree N.S.W. I continued to witness and document strange phenomena. It was during this time that I began to do the lecture and interview circuit in the UFO scene. In 2013 I started up A.A.P.I. (Australian Aerial Phenomena Investigations) to bring together other people who were seeing and filming objects on a semi regular basis. The Ancient Egyptian Text That CONFIRMS Aliens Visited Earth In The Past

It has been believed for quite some time now that the ‘Tulli Papyrus’ is probably the best evidence ever of ancient flying saucers in the distant past, but leading historians have questioned its authenticity and meaning and constantly dismiss it as evidence that Earth has been visited by Extra-terrestrials – But this factual piece of historic evidence should NOT be ignored.

Like many other ancient texts around the world, this ancient piece of evidence appears to tell an amazing story, one that could potentially change the way that we look at ourselves (past, present and the future), our history and the entire Universe!

It’s believed that this ancient piece of documentation, which in fact isn’t a papyrus actually, offers the earliest proof ever of flying saucers on planet earth – The Tulli “papyrus” is a translation of a modern transcription of an ancient Egyptian document.

The Pharaoh that ruled over Egypt was Thutmose III and according to this intriguing ancient text, this mass UFO sightings happened back in 1480 BC. At this time this incredible event was recorded in history as a day of significant importance – the day that something unexplainable and shocking occurred.

“In the year 22, of the third month of winter, sixth hour of the day […] among the scribes of the House of Life it was found that a strange Fiery Disk was coming in the sky. It had no head. The breath of its mouth emitted a foul odour. Its body was one rod in length and one rod in width. It had no voice. It came toward His Majesty’s house. Their heart became confused through it, and they fell upon their bellies. They [went] to the king, to report it. His Majesty [ordered that] the scrolls [located] in the House of Life be consulted. His Majesty meditated on all these events which were now going on.

After several days had passed, they became more numerous in the sky than ever. They shined in the sky more than the brightness of the sun, and extended to the limits of the four supports of heaven […] Powerful was the position of the Fiery Disks.

The army of the King looked on, with His Majesty in their midst. It was after the evening meal when the Disks ascended even higher in the sky to the south. Fish and other volatiles rained down from the sky: a marvel never before known since the foundation of the country. And His Majesty caused incense to be brought to appease the heart of Amun-Re, the god of the Two Lands. And it was [ordered] that the event [be recorded for] His Majesty in the Annals of the House of Life [to be remembered] for ever.”

This simply amazing historical event was described as being silent, but with incredible views of mysterious flying disks highly reflective, shining like the sun. According to this ancient text, the departure of the otherworldly visitors was marked by a mysterious event, as fish rained down from the heaven, almost as if some kind of unknown force affected the surroundings!

This ancient text clearly does not mention whether the ancient Egyptians did actually establish contact with these otherworldly Beings, but it is nonetheless an extremely important day in planet earths history – that is for both humanity and the ancient Egyptian Civilization at the time of this incredible event.

One VERY important thing to remember is that the Ancient Egyptians were extremely experienced and rather gifted astronomers, and it was by the year 1500 B.C, that they were already experts in this field, which means that they would not have mistaken these “fiery disks” with some kind of strange astronomical or weather phenomena – they would have described an astronomical phenomena in a completely different way.  It is also rather important to remember that in these ancient documents, the “fiery disks” are described very clearly as they changed directions in the skies above the people who witnessed them, so it is very clear that we know that these objects didn’t fall, but remained in the Egyptian Sky ~this is not normal for an astronomical event (obviously).

In order to truly understand this ancient text this evidence would ideally need to be studies again in more detail.  But isn’t it interesting that the original papyrus is gone!? But guess what people, top Researcher Samuel Rosenberg has already requested from the Vatican Museum an official opportunity to examine this mysterious/unknown important document, but the reply he received pretty much confirmed that ‘somebody’ does not want ANY interest shown in this key area and he had a response of:

”The Papyrus Tulli not property of Vatican Museum. Now it is dispersed and no more traceable.” Said the VATICAN museum.

Deux univers au lieu d'un ont-t-ils été créés lors du Big-Bang ?

Et si deux univers, au lieu d'un seul, étaient nés à l'issue du Big Bang ? Deux univers dont l'un verrait le temps avancer, et l'autre le temps reculer ? Une nouvelle théorie suggère que le Big-Bang n'aurait pas créé un seul univers (le notre), mais deux univers, évoluant parallèlement : alors que notre univers avancerait dans le temps, ce deuxième univers... reculerait dans le temps.

Des physiciens ont réalisé une expérience qui suggère l'idée pour le moins fascinante que le Big Bang aurait créé deux univers parallèles, au lieu d'un seul : l'un de ces deux univers avancerait dans le temps (c'est notre univers), tandis que l'autre… reculerait dans le temps.

Or cette hypothèse, pour l'instant évidemment bien difficile à démontrer, intéresse au plus haut point les physiciens. En effet, elle les aiderait à résoudre une énigme majeure de la physique moderne : pourquoi le temps ne va-t-il que dans un seul sens ?

De fait, toutes les lois fondamentales de la physique, telles que la relativité restreinte et générale d'Einstein, fonctionnent tout aussi bien si le temps s'écoule avant... ou en arrière. Et d'ailleurs, les modèles physiques créés par les physiciens pour simuler de façon simplifiée le fonctionnement de notre univers ne nécessitent généralement pas qu'une direction préférentielle soit affectée à l'écoulement du temps (sauf si des conditions initiales spécifiques doivent être fixées).

Mais alors, pourquoi notre univers se déplace-t-il vers l'avant dans le temps ? Pourquoi les étoiles émettent de la lumière plutôt que d'attirer cette lumière à elles ? Pourquoi encore nous souvenons-nous du passé, plutôt que de l'avenir ?

A l'heure actuelle, pour expliquer l'aspect directionnel de la fléche du temps qui caractérise notre univers, les physiciens font principalement appel à l'idée que la direction de la flèche du temps est contrôlée par les lois de la thermodynamique, et plus particulièrement par l'entropie.

L'entropie ? Il s'agit d'une mesure du niveau de désordre dans un système : un système à faible entropie est sera un système extrêmement organisé et prévisible, alors qu'un système à haute entropie sera beaucoup moins prévisible.

Or, les lois de la thermodynamique stipulent que l'entropie d'un système isolé, comme notre Univers par exemple, ne peut que croître. En d'autres termes, notre univers ne peut pas passer d'un état de forte entropie à un état de plus faible entropie. Dit autrement, cela signifie que notre univers se dirige inéluctablement vers un état de désordre toujours plus important, et cela de façon totalement irréversible.

La plupart des physiciens acceptent généralement l'idée que l'entropie explique pourquoi la fléche du temps est dirigée dans un seul sens, et donc pourquoi le temps avance. En gros, la vision de la majorité des physiciens consiste à poser qu'à la naissance de notre Univers, tout était très ordonné : de ce fait, le sens du temps est le même que le sens d'une entropie croissante (c'est à dire d'un niveau de désordre croissant).

Mais pour que cette vision soit valide, encore faudrait-il prouver que des conditions de faible entropie étaient réellement présentes au début de l'Univers. Or, il s'agit précisément de quelque chose que les physiciens ne savent actuellement pas montrer...

Face à ce mur théorique, de nouvelles théories émergent, suggèrant que l'entropie n'est peut-être pas la seule façon d'expliquer pourquoi le temps ne s'écoule que dans un seul sens.

Parmi ces théories, on trouve les travaux de Julian Barbour (Université d'Oxford, Royaume-Uni) et de son équipe, récemment publiés dans la prestigieuse revue Physical Review Letters, et qui suggèrent que la direction de la flèche du temps ne serait en réalité par contrôlée par la thermodynamique, mais par la gravité.

Que dit le modèle de Julian Barbour et de ses collègues ? Il avance qu'il n'est pas besoin de postuler que l'Univers était à ses début un système à faible entropie pour expliquer le fait que le temps ne s'écoule que dans un seul sens : selon ces chercheurs, l'écoulement du temps ne serait que le résultat inévitable... de la gravité.

Pour parvenir à cette conclusion, Julian Barbour et ses collègues ont étudié un modèle physique très simple, simulant notre univers, et composé uniquement de 1000 particules. Via des simulations informatiques, ils ont analysé comment ces particules interagissent uniquement sous l'influence des lois de la gravité.

Résultat : Julian Barbour et ses collègues ont découvert que, quelque soit le niveau initial de désordre (faible ou élevé), les particules finissaient de toute façon toutes par se retrouver serrées les unes contre les autres, et cela donc sous le seul effet des lois de la gravité.

Sur la base de ce résultat, Julian Barbour et ses collègues ont émis l'hypothèse selon laquelle il n'est pas nécessaire de convoquer des conditions de faible entropie pour que la flèche du temps se dirige dans un seul sens : les lois de la gravité suffisent pour cela.

Mais ce n'est pas tout. Car lors de ces simulations, un phénomène étrange s'est produit : après cet état très condensé où les particules étaient serrées les unes contre les autres, le système s'est élargi vers l'extérieur... dans deux directions différentes, chacune des deux parties ayant sa propre flèche du temps, dont la direction était symétriquement opposée à celle de l'autre partie. En d'autres termes, un système où le temps pouvait aller dans les deux sens, du passé vers l'avenir, et de l'avenir vers le passé.

De ce constat, les auteurs de ces travaux en ont tiré cette deuxième hypothèse, selon laquelle deux univers auraient été créés lors du Big Bang, chacun dotés d'une flèche du temps pointant dans une direction opposée à l'autre. En d'autres termes, ce que nous pensons comme notre passé serait en réalité l'avenir de cet autre univers. Et de la même manière, en imaginant que des êtres intelligents habitent dans cet autre univers et qu'ils prennent conscience de l'existence de ces deux univers aux flèches du temps opposées, ils réaliseraient alors que ce qui se dessine comme notre avenir n'est en fait que leur lointain passé...

Evidemment, cette hypothèse est actuellement totalement indémontrable. Mais en attendant, elle ouvre le débat sur le rôle de la gravité dans la direction de la flèche du temps. Avec peut-être à la clé, d'ici quelques années, la possibilité de produire des prédictions issues de cette hypothèse, et testables expérimentalement.

The Infamous Alien ‘Element 115’

With atomic numbers of 113, 115, 117, and 118, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) announced the addition of these four elements to the periodic table, but one of them, Element 115 was already announced in 1989 when Bob Lazar, famous area 51 whistleblower revealed to the public that the UFOs possessed by the government were powered by a mysterious ‘Element 115.’ Of course at that time, the claims made by Lazar were tagged as absurd as the scientific community had no knowledge of ‘Element 115’.

In 2003, his statements gained more credibility when a group of Russian scientists managed to create the elusive element, and now, twelve years after that achievement, the discovery of ‘Element 115’ was finally confirmed after numerous tests which verified its existence.

However, the scientific version of ‘Element 115’ drastically differs from what Lazar has described over the years, since according to reports, the element decays in less than a second and cannot be utilized for anything. Unununpentium, the temporary name for Element 115, is an extremely radioactive element; its most stable known isotope, ununpentium-289, has a half-life of only 220 milliseconds.

In 2014, Lazar was interviewed by Geroge Knapp where they discussed ‘Element 115’ or Ununpentium where Lazar dismissed early findings surrounding Element 115, statig that he was confident that further testing will produce an isotope from the element which will match his initial description.

“They made just a few atoms. We’ll see what other isotopes they come up with. One of them, or more, will be stable and it will have the exact properties that I said,” Lazar told Knapp.

Bob Lazar, who was ridiculed because of his sensationalistic claims, states that he worked in the past at Area 51, where top secrets projects are being developed. Interestingly, on several occasions he was subjected to a polygraph: The testing confirmed his statements regarding the secret researcher facilities and alien technology present inside some of the most infamous bases in the United States.

According to Lazar, the so-called “UFO’s” were not built by humans, the cabins inside of the craft were extremely small and only a child could fit into them. Lazar claims that these “Flying saucers” were built and piloted by extraterrestrial beings. Mysteriously, it seems as if the UFO’s were made out of one single piece, they did not have a welding point and were made from a material unknown on Earth.

In addition to ‘Element 115’, scientists introduced 113, 117, and 118. Interestingly, all of these four elements are super heavy, lab-made and VERY radioactive.

“The chemistry community is eager to see its most cherished table finally being completed down to the seventh row,” said Professor Jan Reedijk, president of the Inorganic Chemistry Division of IUPAC.

“IUPAC has now initiated the process of formalising names and symbols for these elements temporarily named as ununtrium, (Uut or element 113), ununpentium (Uup, element 115), ununseptium (Uus, element 117), and ununoctium (Uuo, element 118).”

The morning after I contacted the Defense Department, I got a voice mail message. "Man, we were looking at your query from yesterday on the UFO stuff," the public affairs officer said. He sounded as if he was trying not to laugh. "You're killing us."

He read aloud some of the questions I'd sent: "Which presidents have asked about UFOs? Does the president have the security clearance to know about UFOs? What happens if extraterrestrials show up?" He alternated between chuckles and exasperated sighs. "Which office handles UFOs? Dude, really? I don't know how to—we don't have that." He trailed off laughing. "I don't know how to answer these questions, man."

Most people in Washington don't know how to answer those questions—or at leastsay they don't. But Stephen Bassett, America's only registered lobbyist on UFO and extraterrestrial issues, is convinced that the government has this information and it's only a matter of time before the president "announces to the American people that we're not alone." This much-anticipated mind-blowing moment, known among some UFO enthusiasts as the "disclosure," will officially confirm that "there are extraterrestrials, not only elsewhere, but engaging us now."

"It's solid," Bassett says about the proof that aliens have visited Earth. We are having lunch at the National Press Club, and his piercing blue eyes are fixed on me. "Not going to apologize for that. Facts are facts." Bassett is dressed in a crisp black shirt and black pants; he is almost always dressed in all black. He has spent the last 20 of his 69 years working the Hill, barraging politicians and journalists with letters, faxes, emails, and, more recently, tweets urging them to force the government to reveal its interplanetary secrets.

"The nature of what I do almost demands that the person that gets into it has pretty much nothing going for them," Bassett explains. "You can't have a wife. You can't have kids that have got to go to college."

Bassett's turning point came in 1995, when he read Abduction: Human EncountersWith Aliens, by the late Harvard psychiatry professor John Mack, who counseled people who claimed to have had contact with aliens. After a short stint volunteering for Mack's Program for Extraordinary Experience Research, Bassett concluded that there was already enough scientific evidence "to confirm the ET presence many times over. The problem was political."

So in 1996 he registered as Washington's first ET issue lobbyist. In 1999 he followed up by forming theExtraterrestrial Phenomena Political Action Committee. In 2002 he ran for Congress in Maryland as an independent* on a pro-disclosure platform. (He didn't make it past the primary.) He's hosted several conferences on "exopolitics," the study of relations between humans and extraterrestrials. In 2013, with a grant from a wealthy Canadian, he staged a mock congressional hearing on human-ET contact with six former members of Congress, including Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel. (They were each paid $20,000.) Bassett claims he has been in touch with unnamed staffers from 190 lawmakers' offices to push for alien hearings.

Though he's the only UFO lobbyist, Bassett is not the only earthling inside the Beltway intrigued by the concept of intelligent life from other worlds. Ronald Reaganand Jimmy Carter both claimed to have had UFO experiences. Ever since somethingcrashed in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947, the US government has investigated interplanetary craft with varying levels of official acknowledgment. In 1952, as flying-saucer mania gripped America, the Air Force launched Project Blue Book, which would become the most extensive official investigation of UFOs to date. It was mostly a public-relations effort, and the government officially got out of the UFO investigation business in 1969. But documents released since then show that the FBI, CIA, and Air Force kept up their own work on the matter.

Then there are the Clintons. During the early 1990s, the late philanthropist Laurance Rockefeller prodded the White House to release all federal UFO files. The Clintons appear to have humored the wealthy ET enthusiast; Hillary's former law partnerWebster Hubbell was tasked with digging up information on UFOs (before he was sent away for tax fraud). In 1994, the Air Force released a new review on the Roswell incident that concluded that a nuclear-detonation detection device, not a UFO, had crashed in the desert in 1947. In 1995, President Bill Clinton declassified millions of military and intelligence records. Most were not related to UFOs, but UFO buffs saw the move as an encouraging gesture.

"Secretary Clinton will not get to the White House without going through the extraterrestrial issue," Bassett predicts.

Bassett and other UFO fans find cause for optimism in the fact that Clinton's former chief of staff John Po­desta is chairing Hillary's presidential campaign. In his introduction to the 2010 book UFO s: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the Record, by journalist Leslie Kean, Podesta, an avid X-Files fan, wrote, "The time to pull the curtain back on this subject is long overdue." Bassett believes that with sufficient pressure, Hillary will reveal why her husband's administration avoided full disclosure. The ensuing controversy, he says, will then push Congress to hold new ET hearings. "Secretary Clinton will not get to the White House without going through the extraterrestrial issue," Bassett predicts.

Not everyone looking for answers about UFOs is on board with Bassett's belief in alien abductions and the existence of extraterrestrial bases on Earth. "For the assertions Mr. Bassett makes, proof is needed and he has none that would stand up to scientific or journalistic scrutiny," Kean wrote to me in an email. "Policy makers therefore cannot take his rhetoric seriously." Nick Pope, the former head of Britain's official UFO investigation efforts, says he respects Bassett's "persistence" but thinks the UFO lobbyist "just doesn't really appreciate how government works."

Bassett remains hopeful that Hillary will prove the skeptics wrong. And if that doesn't work? "It will be a bitter pill if I don't make it to disclosure," he says slowly. "That will be a bitch."

*Bassett ran against the Republican candidate Connie Morella and Democrat Chris Van Hollen. In October 2002, after Morella threatened not to participate in a televised candidate debate, Bassett was included and raised the issue of disclosure.

The strange mystery of North Sentinel Island

North Sentinel Island remains one of the most mysterious unexplored islands in the world.

 

North Sentinel Island is one of the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal. It lies to the west of the southern part of South Andaman Island. Most of the island is forested. It is small, located away from the main settlements on Great Andaman, surrounded by coral reefs, and lacks natural harbors.

 

A group of indigenous people, the Sentinelese, live on North Sentinel Island. Their population is estimated to be between 50 and 400 individuals. The Sentinelese reject any contact with other people, and are among the last people to remain virtually untouched by modern civilization.

 

Odd stories have now started to spread concerning mysterious and strange activities.

 

On 2 August 1981, the ship Primrose grounded on the North Sentinel Island reef. A few days later, crewmen on the immobile vessel observed that small black men were carrying spears and arrows and building boats on the beach to attack them with.

 

 

 

The captain of the Primrose radioed for an urgent drop of firearms so the crew could defend themselves, but did not receive them.

 

Heavy seas kept the islanders away from the ship. After a week, the crew were rescued by a helicopter working under contract to the Indian Oil And Natural Gas Commission (ONGC).

 

The Sentinelese apparently survived the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and its after-effects, including the tsunami and the uplifting of the island. Three days after the event, an Indian government helicopter observed several of them, who shot arrows and threw stones at the hovering aircraft with the apparent intent of repelling it
