China Reveals That a Massive Alien Outpost and Mining Facility is Operating on the Moon
China Reveals That a Massive Alien Outpost and Mining Facility is Operating on the Moon
Ever wondered why no one has set foot on the Moon for decades? And why there’s no permanent outpost already established there? Is it because the Moon is not a viable celestial body to harness, or maybe because all of the above mentioned are already happening, but we are not being told about it?
The answer to these questions may be easier than first anticipated, but complex at the same time. Dr. Michael Salla has pointed out that there is a military industrial extraterrestrial complex (MIEC) on the surface of our ‘natural satellite’, and there’s a strong possibility of an alien regime currently operating on the moon in tandem with humans.
To support his claims and those of many others, the Chinese have released an intriguing photo of what appears to be an artificial complex operating on the lunar surface. The image represents yet another confirmation of secret operations carried out up there, and it may also reveal that the Chinese government has been in touch with otherworldly visitors. That, in turn, would also explain why China has been investing massively in radio telescopes.
The following report will bring further clearance into this matter:
“I was sent some pictures by a source who claims China will be releasing Hi Res images taken by the Chang’e-2 moon orbiter, which clearly show buildings and structures on the moon’s surface. He also claims NASA has deliberately bombed important areas of the Moon in an effort to destroy ancient artefacts and facilities.
Pictures yet to be released clearly show nuclear impact craters and building debris caused by explosions in an effort by NASA to destroy the truth. China is moving toward full disclosure of the Extraterrestrial reality, if these images and future ones are verified genuine then NASA should be investigated for fraud and treason. China will be releasing all the data and images from the Chang’e-2 in the coming weeks and months, let’s hope this is the beginning of a new era.“
There’s a chance that the world governments have a secret pact to exploit the moon for its minerals. This pact may be signed by other ET species residing in the Universe, which could explain why this alliance has a secretive nature. However, since greed is a common trait among humans, there shouldn’t be long until someone is excluded out of this alliance, and eventually disclose this secret project to humanity.
Countless rumors speak of an alien base located on the dark side of the moon – the side we never get to see, and it’s no secret that, in 2009, NASA publicly bombed a portion of the moon for unclear reasons. Other leaked images originating from NASA’s headquarters reveal different structures found up there that are likely to be artificial in nature.
Among the most renowned people to speak of this Moon conspiracy is Milton Cooper, a Naval Intelligence Officer who disclosed that the US Navy Intelligence Community knows of the alien base. The term used to describe it is “Luna,” and according to Cooper, its main objective is to mine the underground for certain materials. He also speaks of a massive mother ship found in the vicinity of the moon used by the aliens to store up materials, and also travel to Earth in small “flying saucers” found on the main ship.
“LUNA: The alien base on the far side of the Moon. It was seen and filmed by the Apollo astronauts. A base, a mining operation using very large machines, and the very large alien craft describing in sightings reports as mother ships exist there,” Milton Cooper revealed.
So, is it possible that what the Chinese revealed is in fact a small fraction of the mining operation facility called Luna? After all, it strongly resembles the drilling devices used by our own species, and there is no one to debunk it as being a natural formation.
For everyone who sees space as the final frontier, is a specific voyage that has opened new doors to discovery. NASA, one of the leading space discovery arenas, is one that has helped to provide new insights to those interested in space. Not only is this a part of the current events, but also invites discovery into the events that are designed to help with the discovery of the history of space science. Unidentified Flying Objects had long been the subject of conspiracy theories in which governments are intentionally concealing the alien existence by removing physical evidence of their presence. There are versions of this story; while others overlap with various other conspiracy theories, some are exclusive.
In a footage, it shows the appearance of a diamond-shaped object nearby the space station. The footage was broadcast live by NASA. However, the live feed was cut suddenly as the object appears to focus. The shocking video has sent UFO hunters and conspiracy theorists into meltdown. Despite being far, it looks massive. As the clip continues, the strange object appears to grow larger.
Suddenly, the screen suddenly turns blue. As soon as the feed restarts, it shows the space station focusing on a different angle. Supposed if the new angle covers up the spacecraft, it failed because the object can still clearly be seen. Therefore, the change of camera shows the existence of the object and not just on the lens. According to Youtube uploader, it is a form of the unexplained object. In an interview, he saw a UFO at the station. The strange object has a diamond-shaped and is changing its shape. Speaking over the footage, when you play this footage quickly, it looks like the object changes its position. NASA was established more than 50 years ago and has been a world leader in studies of our home planet.
Here are new photos of a 8-shaped object hovering high in the sky above Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. This was photographed on 19th April 106.
Witness report:It came so close we all could make out the shape of it the ascended. We, a group of us where sitting at the picnic table talking when one of our group noticed an object approaching from the south east, so I went to my apartment a got my digital camera, when I returned the group where telling me that when it was overhead they could make out the shape of it, which was in a figure eight and solid black in color, I asked where it was and they pointed it out to me just north east of us now. so I started talking picture of it at max zoom of 126x and then it stopped moving and started going up and down in one spot for about five minutes then changed directions and started climbing higher and headed east out of sight. I have pictures but one of them is the clearest.
A color scan of the original computer printout of the "Wow!" signal as detected by the Big Ear Radio Observatory in 1977. Credit: Big Ear Radio Observatory and North American Astrophysical Observatory (NAAPO)
The story behind the famous "Wow!" signal has an eerie quality that has inspired countless science fiction alien encounters and is often lauded as one of the strongest pieces of evidence that we are, in fact, not alone in the universe.
However, its "alien intelligence" authenticity has been questioned since that fabled night on Aug. 15, 1977 at 10:16 p.m. ET when astronomer Jerry Ehman used the Ohio State University’s Big Ear radio telescope to sweep the skies for signals that may have originated from an extraterrestrial civilization.
On that night, Ehman found something. And since that night, astronomers have been trying to figure out what it means.
While pointed in the direction of 3 star systems named Chi Sagittarii, in the constellation of Sagittarius, Big Ear detected a 72 second radio wave burst, a signal far stronger than background noise. On the observatory’s computer printout, Ehman circled the burst with the infamous annotation "Wow!"
This excitement wasn't an overstatement, it was this kind of signal he was looking for, the kind of signal astronomers thought a technologically-capable alien civilization would produce.
The Big Ear printout contains a bunch of apparently random numbers and letters, but Ehman’s red pen circles a cluster of digits "6EQUJ5" with other circles around a "6" and "7" on separate columns. This particular code first uses the numbers 1-9 and then the alphabet A-Z to denote signal strength. As the burst suggests, the signal strength hit "6" and then blasted through the letters reaching a peak of "U" before subsiding back into the numerical scale at "5." There was then a slight wave trailing the main signal (hence the circled "6″ and "7"). The wave profile of the "Wow!" signal is graphically envisaged here.
However, since that day in 1977, a detection of a signal of that strength has not been replicated. Even after the SETI Institute was founded in 1984, and countless efforts have been made to find another radio burst like the "Wow!" signal, astronomers have been faced with silence in the cosmos; a problem that has only served to intensify the Fermi Paradox unease.
Now, Antonio Paris of St Petersburg College, Fla., an ex-analyst of the US Department of Defense, hopes to solve the mystery and he suspects that an entirely different cosmic phenomenon is to blame.
In an interview with TheGuardian.com, Paris says that his investigative background sent him on a mission to find another possible explanation for the "Wow!" signal and he tracked down two "suspicious" comets that may have been in the vicinity of Chi Sagittarii on Aug. 15, 1977. Interestingly, these comets, called 266P/Christensen and 335P/Gibbs, were only discovered in 2006 and 2008, so weren't considered as possible reasons for the signal in 1977 as no one knew of their existence.
But what have comets got to do with errant radio bursts?
The "Wow!" signal was recorded in the 1420MHz radio frequency band. It just so happens that cosmic neutral hydrogen naturally radiates at this frequency — it is therefore an abundant signal that is commonly used in astronomy. This is no coincidence; through alien-hunting logic, should there be an extraterrestrial species wanting to make contact, what frequency would they use? Firstly, as we only have ourselves to use as an alien template, we have to assume that hypothetical aliens will likely use radio waves. Secondly, if they are using radio waves to communicate with us, they would likely use a frequency that other intelligent aliens would be naturally tuned into. 1420MHz is the "universal water cooler," where intelligent life could check into and potentially chat.
The bummer is, however, that comets contain copious amounts of hydrogen in their atmospheres. Say if the "Wow!" signal was actually caused by the chance passage of a comet through the radio telescope's field of view, packing a powerful radio surge?
In 2017, Comet 266P will once again orbit in front of Chi Sagittarii and Comet 335P will do so the following year and Paris wants to test this hypothesis. Unfortunately, existing radio telescopes are already booked, so he has to buy or build his own radio antennae in time for the cosmic encounters. He has a crowdfunding campaign set up to raise the $20,000 he needs and is most of the way there.
It may be a long shot, but as is the way with many astronomical studies, all possible phenomena need to be ruled out before a discovery is made and, should Paris' experiment prove the "Wow!" signal was in fact caused by interference by an undiscovered comet, the universe will get quieter once again, making the Fermi Paradox even more bewildering.
The dinosaurs — the so-called tyrants of the Mesozoic era — weren't exactly thriving during their last few million years on Earth, a new study finds.
The new analysis of the dinosaur family tree reveals that dinosaurs were disappearing even before the asteroid hit about 65.5 million years ago. Roughly 24 million years before that impact, dinosaur extinction rates passed speciation rates, meaning that the animals were losing the ability to replace extinct species with new ones, the researchers said.
The findings suggest that these striking extinction rates made the dinosaurs vulnerable to drastic environmental changes, such as the asteroid collision, the researchers said. [Wipe Out: History's Most Mysterious Extinctions]
"This implies that any group of animals that is under prolonged periods of high extinction rate can undergo mass extinction should there be a catastrophic event," said study lead researcher Manabu Sakamoto, a postdoctoral research assistant of biological sciences at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom.
The study isn't the first to suggest that dinosaurs were in a major decline before the asteroid event. In previous studies, scientists have recorded the number of species in each geological age and compared those levels to the subsequent ages (each age lasts for millions of years) to get a sense of how diverse the dinosaurs were, Sakamoto said.
But that method focuses on snapshots in time and doesn't take into account the extinction and speciation rate within each branch of thedinosaur family tree. So the researchers of the new study looked at the dinosaur fossil record and the family tree to get a robust picture of when new dinosaur species came onto the scene, Sakamoto said.
"Our study is the first to incorporate such phylogenetic [family tree] information when studying speciation and extinction in dinosaurs," Sakamoto told Live Science. "This is what has allowed us to build a more nuanced and certain picture of dinosaur speciation than has ever before been possible."
Dinosaur detectives
The researchers separately analyzed the three major groups of dinosaurs: the ornithischians (such as Stegosaurus), sauropodomorphs (the long-necked, long-tailed herbivores) and theropods (bipedal, mostly carnivorous dinosaurs, such as T. rex and Albertosaurus).
The sauropodomorphs had the most prominent downturn, the scientists found. The research showed spikes in new species of this type of dinosaur emerging during the Triassic and early Jurassic periods, until about 195 million years ago, when that speciation rate began to slow down. At 114 million years ago, during the early Cretaceous period, species of sauropodomorphs were going extinct faster than new species were emerging, the researchers found.
"The subsequent originations of [the] titanosaurian [group] were not nearly enough to compensate for the continuous loss of sauropods throughout the remainder of the Cretaceous," the scientists wrote in the study.

Theropods had an "early burst" of speciation followed by a speciation slowdown from the late Triassic to the early Cretaceous (about 215 million years ago to about 120 million years ago), when extinction rate exceeded speciation rate, the researchers found.
Likewise, ornithischians show an early increase followed by a speciation slowdown at about 114 million years ago, when extinction rate surpassed speciation rate. But there were a few success stories within this group. The hadrosauriforms (duck-billed dinosaurs) and ceratopsids (the horned dinosaurs, such asTriceratops) did well, likely because they had developed jaws that helped them munch on new food, possibly flowering plants, the researchers said. [Dinosaur Detective: Find Out What You Really Know]
When the researchers considered the three dinosaur groups separately, "We found unequivocal evidence that dinosaurs were in decline up to 50 million years prior to the mass extinction event 66 million years ago," Sakamoto said.
Extinction lessons
It's unclear why the dinosaurs started going extinct so early, but there are clues as to why speciation increased during certain periods, the scientists said. One idea is that rising sea levels cut into the land, fragmenting dinosaur habitats and nudging the beasts to evolve separately into new species in different areas, the researchers said.
However, after dinosaur extinction rates began to rise, another group of animals started thriving: mammals.
"The decline of the dinosaurs would have left plenty of room for mammals, the group of species which humans are a member of, to flourish before the impact, priming them to replace dinosaurs as the dominant animals on Earth [after the impact]," study co-author Chris Venditti, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Reading, said in a statement.
The new findings may help scientists understand the possible consequences of today's extinctions, the researchers added.
"We live in a time when species are undergoing unprecedented levels of extinctions," Sakamoto told Live Science. "This means that if some major catastrophe hits, then it is highly possible that whole groups of animals [will] be completely wiped out off the face of the Earth."
The study is an interesting one, said Alan Turner, an associate professor of anatomical sciences at Stony Brook School of Medicine in New York, who was not involved in the research.
"Through modeling of speciation dynamics, it appears that dinosaur diversity was declining well in advance of the end-Cretaceous extinction event that killed off all nonavian dinosaurs, as well as numerous other vertebrate groups," Turner told Live Science in an email.
Synchronicity Happens For A Reason — There Are No Accidents And No Coincidences
Synchronicity Happens For A Reason — There Are No Accidents And No Coincidences
by Hellen Elizabeth Williams
Have you stumbled upon an old friend? Seeing someone doing the same thing or speaking the same words as you? Or maybe experienced an accident? Are you thinking ‘Oh! What a coincidence!’ or ‘I could skip accidents like this…’ Well, you shouldn’t, because every single coincidence brings a message to you. In fact, there are no coincidences and accidents — there’s only synchronicity, and everything happens for a reason.
Revealing Synchronicity — The Science Behind Coincidence
The truth is, everything in our life is linked. From the past, to the present and future — every single coincidence or accident we stumble upon is linked. No matter how small or big of a movement is, it is all about synchronicity.
Whether you feel like you are having a perfect day and everything goes smoothly, or experience a bad period in which ‘a lot of coincidences happen,’ the universe is sending you a message. People and things happening in an exact moment is nothing but synchronicity and, fortunately, there is a way to accept it.
Do you know the saying “When the student is ready, the master appears”?
That is exactly how synchronicity is explained. Whenever you are synchronized with something you truly want, you are more likely to meet that thing, which is why similar people meet ‘accidentally’. The thing is, they are tuned in to the exact same frequency, and synchronicity does its best to match them.
Yes, There Is A Way To Create Synchronicity
Now that you understand how the spiritual sync works, it’s time to tell you that…
YOU CAN CREATE SYNCHRONICITY.
‘How on Earth do I do that?’, you may be asking yourself.
Well, synchronicity works best for people who believe it to be true. So, for starters, you should believe in it and stop saying that every event is an accident or a coincidence. The thing is, if you are saying this, you are sending a weak spiritual signal to the universe, as opposed to the strong signal that the universe sends you by syncing everything around you.
By understanding synchronicity and seeing things not as an ordinary, but a committed person, you are able to connect more deeply with your inner sync, and actually don’t work hard to make the things you want happen. Instead, you will just believe in them and let them happen, without any force whatsoever.
So, let’s face it…
Synchronicity is just like a mirror and whatever you commit to and believe in, will reflect back to you.
That being said, if you agree with the law of syncing, you will be able to connect deeply and send strong messages on a spiritual level. Aside from this, you will be a better person, more confident and committed towards every action you bring.
Ina nutshell, understanding synchronicity translates to establishing harmony in everything that you seek — and being ‘consciously aware’ of everything happening around you.
Turning The Tide – And See Chances Work For You instead Of Against You
If you have ever heard of the Murphy’s Law and believe in it, you are on a good way to understanding synchronicity. Yes, it’s a common fact that when something goes wrong, it may just continue going wrong over time.
The idea behind this is that synchronicity can also work against you. However, if you expect bad things to happen and continue believing in the Murphy’s Law, you are syncing with your inner negativity.
The Science Behind The Chance Meeting — Not A ‘Coincidence’
Bumped into someone somewhere? Thinking it’s a coincidence, luck or chance? The real answer in this ‘accident’ is the science of chance meeting.
Moreover, it is the reason for something to happen. There is always a reason and a connection to see someone and experience something. Coincidence is only an illusion.
Our past, present and future are all linked. And although we may not understand everything that happens to us, there is always a reason — and that reason becomes apparent at some point in time.
A Final Word
Synchronicity is an ever present reality for those who have the eyes to see. — Carl Jung
You can start notice synchronicities with people, numbers, events etc.Remember to accept synchronicity in its real form, as a way of spiritual and universal intelligence constantly trying to teach us, reach us and share love, support and guidance.
Learn to be open to synchronicity and start living a meaningful life!

This “Tesla baby” can produce enough power matching all power generation facilities in Russia when lightning is discharged onto a platform.
A team of Russian scientists are already working on the restoration of the “Tesla tower” for wireless power transmission, developed by Tesla in 1901-1902. The Wardenclyffe Tower, also known as the Tesla Tower, was built near the island of Manhattan (USA) at the beginning of the 1900’s but was not completed for reasons unknown so far. Some speculate that the original Tesla tower was closed due to the lack of funding. Tesla believed that this project was, if completed, one of the most effective electric systems in the world allowing him to produce and transmit electrical energy across great distances.
Nikola Tesla was a genius, a brilliant inventor and the pioneer of wireless power transmission who in 1891, developed the principles of an antenna which is capable of supplying electricity to ANY device without the use of cables or connectors.
Tesla’s project was based on variations in the magnetic flux and, despite the incredible potential of the project, he apparently never managed to thrive beyond mere trials.
The Russian version of Tesla’s tower is located about 40 kilometers from Moscow. Currently, the research complex dubbed as the “High Voltage Marx and Tesla Generators Research Facility” is truly one of a kind and its generators can meet the energy demand for the entire country, although only for a period of around 100 microseconds.
In Russia, experiments or practices related to energy are anything but new. In the 1980’s the Soviets built a tower which “channeled” the energy created from lightning storms and use it for numerous purposes.
this incredible Russia project is unique, and it is something that you probably won’t find anywhere else in the world. Why? Because of its incredible design and even greater charging capacity.
As we described above, this “Tesla baby” can produce enough power matching all power generation facilities in Russia when lightning is discharged onto a platform. Given the high maintenance cost, this “secret” Russian Tesla facility is not operational 24/7 but is only turned on on special occasions.
According to Rossiya-1 TV; When the facility is operating, the static charge in the “hot zone” is so large that the hair of anyone present bristles.
To find out more about this “crazy” electrical facility check out this video where you can appreciate, from the air, the elaborate design of this super-cool facility.

The shimmering atmospheric lighting displays known as auroras have never looked sharper than in a new ultra-high-definition video that was shot in space.
The stunning time-lapse footage was captured from the International Space Station in 4K ultra high definition (UHD), a video format with a resolution of 3,840 pixels horizontal by 2,160 pixels vertical. (For comparison, full-HD resolution is 1,920 pixels by 1,080 pixels.) The eye-catching video was uploaded by NASA TV to YouTube on April 17.
Auroras are produced when solar particles that are ejected from the sun and carried to Earth by solar winds collide with electrically charged particles in Earth's magnetic field, triggering reactions in the upper atmosphere that release light.
They are most commonly glimpsed on Earth at high latitudes, in the Northern and Southern hemispheres. While auroras are typically green, they can also appear violet, red, blue, while or pink, according to NASA.
To produce the auroras video, NASA partnered with media infrastructure experts at Harmonic, with whom they also launched a new UHD channel featuring 4K content — the first noncommercial UHD channel in North America — the agency said in a statement.
And the auroras are just part of the dynamic activity captured in NASA's videos. The agency has also released 4K UHD footage of lightning flashes, the setting moon, expanses of clouds spread over the oceans, and the sprawl of city lights at night.
This is one video you're going to want to watch as large as possible — trust us, it'll be worth it.

Date of discovery: Feb 2014 Location of discovery: Fangliao, Taiwan base Google coordinates: 22°20'09.40”N 120°37'28.33”E Google has done it again. I have reported UFOs on Google Earth, about 6 and all have them have been deleted. This one I reported 2 years ago and no, its photo wasn't updated. This UFO is on Google street view and its just gone. (Click here to see my old 2014 post of it.) The location is the same, the trees, leaves, lighting, even the reflection in the mirror on the corner of the road, but the UFO has beed photoshoped out by US government controlled Google. Yes, Google does work with secret organizations in the US govt and they do delete all UFOs found. Thats why every UFO must be recorded on Video. If you see any of the 6 videos I made with UFOs on Google you know they are real, but also that Google has deleted them. Now...using a Google browser? Using a google phone? Trust them that much? Faster Than Light! Incredible Illusion Makes Images 'Time Travel'
Faster Than Light! Incredible Illusion Makes Images 'Time Travel'
by Tia Ghose, Senior Writer
Scientists have observed a bizarre phenomenon called time reversal in which light waves seem to travel backward in time. Credit: bunnavit pangsuk /Shutterstock.com
Using a weird phenomenon in which particles of light seem to travel at faster-than-light speeds, scientists have shown that waves of light can seem to travel backward in time.
The new experiment also shows other bizarre effects of light, such as pairs of images forming and annihilating each other.
Taken together, the results finally prove a century-old prediction made by British scientist and polymath Lord Rayleigh. The phenomenon, called time reversal, could allow researchers to develop ultra-high-speed cameras that can peer around corners and see through walls. [In Images: The World's 11 Most Beautiful Equations]
Backtracking sound waves
Lord Rayleigh — the brilliant British physicist who discovered the noble gas argon and explained why the sky is blue — also made a bizarre prediction about sound waves nearly a century ago. Rayleigh reasoned that, because the speed of sound is fixed, an object traveling faster than that while spewing out sound would result in sound waves that would seem to travel in the opposite direction of the object and thus seem to be reversed in time orientation. For instance, a phonograph on a plane traveling at Mach 2, or twice the speed of sound, would seem to play the music backward.
No scientists really doubted this notion, but there was no easy way to test it.
"Using sound, it's something that's really hard to verify and actually hear," said study co-author Daniele Faccio, a physicist at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland.
Sound travels at 761.2 mph (1,225 km/h), but that means that, to hear a 3-second clip of music going backward, a supersonic jet traveling at Mach 2 (or twice the speed of sound) would start replaying the music more than a mile from the listener's location. The scattering and absorption of the sound waves in the air would make the music completely inaudible by that time, Faccio said.
Light reversal
But Faccio and his colleagues realized that if Rayleigh's predictions held true, the same effect would occur in other types of waves, such as light waves. Light travels much, much faster than sound, at 670 million mph (1.1 billion km/h). And the wavelengths themselves are tiny, meaning the time reversal can be demonstrated in a normal-size room.
The researchers were also interested in studying this idea because they were developing ultra-high-speed cameras that could peer around corners, and the phenomenon could affect their algorithms.
There was just one problem with testing Rayleigh's prediction with light: Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light.
To create a faster-than-light source, the team used a strange phenomenon called illumination fronts, which had previously been described in a series of fascinating thought experiments.
The trick behind illumination fronts is that, while an image may be traveling faster than light, the photons themselves never exceed light speed.
Here's how Illumination fronts work. Imagine taking a laser pointer and flicking the point across a vast and distant wall. While the photons traveling from the laser pointer to the wall are moving at their ordinary speed, because the light hits the wall at an angle, the dot on the wall (the illumination front) always moves faster than that. [Science Fiction or Fact? The Plausibility of 10 Sci-Fi Concepts]
Freezing photons in midair
Next, however, the team had to find some way to capture the speedy paths of images as they zoomed across a wall.
"The key piece of equipment was the camera that allows us to essentially freeze light in motion," Faccio told Live Science. [Video: How to Freeze Light]
To catch time reversal in the act, the team created an illumination front by projecting a single line of light on a screen and moving that line across the screen faster than the speed of light. At the same time, they captured the reflected light in motion using a super-high-speed camera. The camera snapped photos in a few picoseconds, or trillionths of a second, during which time photons travel just a few feet.
Sure enough, the camera captured the line on the wall moving in the opposite direction from the way they moved the line, as if it had traveled backward in time.
Self-annihilating twins
In a second experiment, the team verified an even more bizarre effect, called pair creation and annihilation. (Robert Nemiroff, a physicist at Michigan Technological University, predicted this effect for astronomical objects in a study posted online in May 2015 in the preprint journal arXiv.)
Faccio and his colleagues had an illumination front travel across a curved screen. As the speed of the projected lines exceeded light speed, a pair of lines was created, and the two lines moved away from each other. Using a different curvature, the pair of lines moved toward each other, merged and then annihilated each other, the researchers reported Friday (April 15) in the journal Science Advances.
The findings may have implications for the researchers' corner-peering cameras. This kind of "supersight" requires scientists to analyze the paths that light particles take as they bounce and scatter off various objects. Normally, light travels so fast that, to the human eye, the light coming from many different locations seems to appear instantaneously, making it impossible for the eye to resolve these different light paths and "see" behind corners.
But because high-speed cameras can capture the light in motion, researchers can reconstruct the shape of objects that might not be in the immediate line of sight. However, the mathematical calculation of these paths would need to account for the possibility that some of the light rays they see are time-reversed, because they are coming from an illumination front, Faccio said.
The new findings apply to any type of wave, Faccio said. For instance, there may be certain instances when a seismic wave bounces off a slanted piece of rock deep below Earth's surface, pointing to earthquake activity in one direction, when, in fact, the temblor occurred in the opposite direction, Faccio said.
The new paper also has some other interesting implications, said Nemiroff, who was not involved in the current study.
"I am not sure that either Lord Rayleigh nor [the paper's authors] were aware that sonic booms are the sound equivalent of illumination-front pair-creation events," Nemiroff told Live Science in an email. "With light, you first see a flash when a pair event is created, but with sound, you hear a boom."

A new generation of muon telescopes has been built to detect the presence of secret structures and cavities in Egypt's pyramids, a team of researchers announced on Friday.
Built by CEA (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission) the devices add to an armory of innovative, non-destructive technologies employed to investigate four pyramids which are more than 4,500 years old. They include the Great Pyramid, Khafre or Chephren at Giza, the Bent pyramid and the Red pyramid at Dahshur.
The project, called ScanPyramids, is scheduled to last one year and is being carried out by a team from Cairo University's Faculty of Engineering and the Paris-based non-profit organization Heritage, Innovation and Preservation (HIP Institute) under the authority of the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.
Launched by Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities, a project called Scan Pyramid aims at scanning the largest pyramids of Egypt in order to detect the presence of any unknown internal structures and cavities.
The technique could lead to a better understanding of the pyramids' structure and how they were built.
The project uses a mix of technologies such as infrared thermography, muon radiography, and 3D reconstruction to look at the inside of four pyramids, which are more than 4,500 years old. They include Khufu, or Cheops, Khafre or Chephren at Giza, the Bent pyramid and the Red pyramid at Dahshur.
Several thermal anomalies were observed on all monuments, but one, particularly remarkable, was detected on the eastern side of the Great Pyramid, also known as Khufu or Cheops, at the ground level.
International researchers from Nagoya University and KEK (High Energy Accelerator Research Organization) in Japan and Laval University, Quebec, Canada, have also joined the project, which is separate from the search for the secret room in King Tut's tomb.
"Now we welcome new researchers from the Irfu, a CEA fundamental research team," Mehdi Tayoubi, co-director of the ScanPyramids mission with Hany Helal, professor at Cairo University's Faculty of Engineering and former minister of research and higher education, said.
Irfu, which stands for Institute of Research into the Fundamental Laws of the Universe, gathers almost 800 researchers on astrophysics, nuclear physics and particle physics.
"These scientists have built dedicated muon telescopes for our mission. They are actually under construction and being tested in the CEA laboratories at Saclay, France," Tayoubi told Discovery News.
"It is really exciting to see how a technology that just came out from a fundamental research laboratory can help us understand 4,500-year-old massive monuments with non visible physics particles," he added.
The new muon devices rely on micro-pattern gas detectors called Micromegas. Extremely precise, they are used to reconstruct particles tracks in high energy physics. For example, CEA's Micromegas have been installed in the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.
Such muon telescopes will be used in addition to the infrared thermography, muon radiography, and 3-D reconstruction technologies that have already been employed to investigate the pyramids.
So far the researchers have detected striking thermal anomalies on the eastern and northern side of the Great Pyramid at Giza, which could possibly indicate an unknown cavity or internal structure.
A team led by specialist Kunihiro Morishima, from the Institute for Advanced Research of Nagoya University, Japan, installed 40 muon detector plates inside the lower chamber of the Bent pyramid at Dahshur in an attempt to capture cosmic particles.
The technology relies on the muons that continually shower the Earth's surface. They emanate from the upper layers of Earth’s atmosphere, where they are created from collisions between cosmic rays of our galactic environment and the nuclei of atoms in the atmosphere.
"Just like X-rays pass through our bodies allowing us to visualize our skeleton, these elementary particles, weighing around 200 times more than electrons, can very easily pass through any structure, even large and thick rocks, such as mountains," Tayoubi said.
Plate detectors placed inside the pyramid allow researchers to discern void areas — these are places where muons cross without problem — from denser areas where some muons are absorbed or deflected.
While the Japanese muon detectors are used inside the pyramids, the new moun telescopes, using gas detectors, will be used outside the pyramids.
"In this way, we can for example better understand some thermal anomalies that have been spotted," Tayoubi said.
"We are not in a hurry to make discoveries as we rather want to build this project step by step. Our goal is to inform about all the actions we take. We hope that other labs with very innovative technologies will join us," Tayoubi said.
The researchers have detailed their findings so far in this video.
The next step will be to announce the first results from the moun detectors placed inside the Bent pyramid at Dahshur.

Afbeelding: NASA / JPL-Caltech / UCLA / MPS / DLR / IDA / PSI.

“Stratoscrapers” and Underwater Villages: Meet the City of the Future
“Stratoscrapers” and Underwater Villages: Meet the City of the Future
Taylor Herring/Samsung
IN BRIEF
“Earth-scrapers” will tunnel 25 stories or more underground, further extending the vertical dimensions of our reach, and floating cities will drift on the waves while towers stretch kilometers into the atmosphere. These are the cities of the future.
Samsung has released its “SmartThings Future Living Report.” It’s a serious look at the topography of the future, at least in terms of its technological promise, and what that will mean for our lives and how we live them. It’s an extrapolation of current technological trends, as all such predictions inevitably are; but it’s less extravagant than most, more restrained and rooted in scientific realities, and it has a convincing ring of truth to it.
Which is exciting, because if the folks at Samsung are right, it means that over the next century or so we’re going to be in for a very interesting ride.
URBAN EVOLUTION
What will the cities of 2116 look like? Spectacular, beautiful, terrifying, and big…really, reallybig.
A future mega-city. Credit: Taylor Herring/Samsung
The metropolis of the future won’t be a far cry from Fritz Lang’s vision: it will culminate that urban trend that began thousands of years ago—the ultimate descendant of Ur and Memphis, Alexandria and Rome.
Advances in lightweight, super strong building materials, such as carbon nanotubesand diamond nanothread, will allow future cities to flout the laws of gravity—enormous “stratoscrapers,” kilometers high, will dwarf the likes of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa and Saudi Arabia’s projected Kingdom Tower.
Throw in the fact that these colossal edifices may be 3D-printedin situ by swarms of drones, rather than laboriously and dangerously built up through human toil, and there is a great likelihood that the shapes and architectural aesthetic of these huge buildings may conform to nothing we would recognize.
In reality, due to the pressures of population and the constraints of space, these buildings will be “arcologies” (“architectural ecologies”), whole vertical cities unto themselves—complete with residential, business, shopping, agricultural, entertainment, and other districts. A cloud of drone-cars will flit around them like bees about a hive, carrying us to different levels; forget sidewalks and dangerous streets.
What about powering these monstrous urban environments? We’ll likely see the arrival of newer, cleaner, and more exotic forms of energy—nuclear fusion, for instance, that long-awaited dream of harnessing the power of the sun, or geothermal or tidal energy stations, or even immense solar panel farms on the moon, beaming power wirelessly to a hungry earth through microwave transmissions.
And it’s not only the heavens that our urban architecture will seek to colonize.
“Earth-scrapers” will tunnel 25 stories or more underground, further extending the vertical dimensions of these future arcologies. The oceans, however, will form the most coveted frontier for urbanization. Think of giant, self-contained, undersea cities floating in the water column; not rooted to the sea floor like the sessile corals or sea lilies, they’ll drift in the oceans like jellyfish, avoiding storms and seeking more congenial climates.
An undersea city. Credit: Taylor Herring/Samsung
They’ll generate fuel and breathable atmospheres through electrolysis—“cracking” seawater to produce hydrogen (for fuel cells and nuclear fusion power) and oxygen for air.
Mechanical energy, from wave action, and solar power will further augment these cities’ reserves, and desalination will distill drinkable water. They’ll be fully independent, beholden to no one, and that raises its own problems—problems of jurisdiction and sovereignty.
Is it possible to have nations and city-states that don’t possess an inch of surface territory?
Predicting the Future: Here’s What Our Homes May Be Like in 100 Years
Predicting the Future: Here’s What Our Homes May Be Like in 100 Years
Taylor Herring/Samsung
IN BRIEF
Samsung SmartThings has released its “Future Living Report,” a forecast of the next 100 years. Among its many predictions are “smart homes,” undersea cities, “synthetic telepathy,” and 3D-printed gourmet meals.
TIME AND AGAIN
Forecasting the future has been one of humankind’s favorite pastimes. We’re usually pretty bad at it, but there’s always been a Cassandra or a Delphic oracle, a Sibyl or a Nostradamus willing to make the attempt.
Images of a futuristic city from Metropolis(1927).
But in more recent times, the art of predicting the future has almost become a kind of mathematics—very disciplined and scientific.
In the early decades of the last century, a number of scientific prophecies were made about what the future—our present—would be like; some of these were naively optimistic, a few were dead-on accurate, others hopelessly wide of the mark.
It’s always been fun to see how these old dreamers envisioned their future. For example, in Fritz Lang’s 1927 silent masterpiece Metropolis, the future was an immense urban jumble of Art Deco architecture, complete with multi-tiered highways and giant machines run by an oppressed working class. The famous science fiction pioneer H. G. Wells, in his 1933 novel The Shape of Things to Come, imagined that we would be living under something called the “Air Dictatorship”—a kind of technocratic world state ruled by air power.
Others focused more on the technological aspects of the future, and the many scientific wonders and gadgets to come. The old comic strip Buck Rogers in the 25th Century had some interesting things to say about this—predicting, among other things, text messaging, cell phones, surveillance drones, and even the Hyperloop, the pneumatic transport system proposed by Elon Musk.
And it is along these lines—though with a more official and academic imprimatur—that Samsung has released its “SmartThings Future Living Report.” It’s a serious look at the topography of the future, at least in terms of its technological promise, and what that will mean for our lives and how we live them.

SMART LIVING
According to the report, we can expect some pretty remarkable changes to our homes and our personal spaces, to say nothing of those ordinary, overlooked things that make up so much of our daily routine. As human populations soar, our cities and homes will have to adapt; interior living spaces will change as a cloud changes, easily reconfigured and rearranged to suit our fickle tastes, or accommodate different purposes.
Imagine walls and floors made of a malleable “skin,” and embedded with tiny sensors and actuators so that the shape and size of living spaces can quickly change, or even be divided into smaller rooms; imagine fully programmable “smart homes” that can be controlled remotely, and provide feedback to their owners—yes, there’ll even be an app for that.
Virtual decorations will alter with changing tastes, moods and whims; and the entire interior surface of the home will be implanted with LED technology—television screens and computer displays will form and unform in any room, as needed. Even our furniture will be adaptable, molding to custom fit our bodies, responding to changes in posture, or disappearing altogether when not needed.
A drone flying house. Image credit: Taylor Herring/Samsung
It will be the ultimate evolution of the “Internet of Things.” Misplaced something? Can’t find your keys? No problem. Just use an online search function to find it. Hate the color of that accent wall? Delete it. Need more storage space? Watch new shelves appear, as if by magic.
And the amenities are fantastic. Every home will come standard with a 3D printer; they’ll be able to churn out just about anything you could wish, using downloadable patterns, probably including even complex electronic devices. They may even print out your meals, designed and programmed by the world’s master chefs.
Walk-in “medical pods,” meanwhile, will contribute to the decentralization of healthcare—their imaging sensors will diagnose your ills and, for the more easily treatable maladies, dispense drugs, inject antibiotics, and recommend health regimens. It may even be possible to undergo remote, robot-mediated surgery, in the comfort of your own home.
This barely scratches the surface. Imagine homes whose very building material is salted with dormant limestone-producing bacteria, which awaken upon contact with moisture and repair any cracks or structural damage.
There will be “digestion tanks” full of anaerobic bacteria, to dispose of our waste; and our homes will produce, store, and reuse their own energy, using “microbial fuel cell stacks” and more efficient solar panels to generate electricity, and power-banks like the Tesla powerwall to store it against future use. Personal homes will be almost fully independent of a dangerously overtaxed energy grid.
One hundred years in the future, our houses will be, in almost all respects, semi-living, artificial organisms—closed systems with a metabolism, sensory apparatus, immune response, and an approximation to a nervous system.
We’ll be living in homes that are practically alive. An uncanny thought.

An Antimatter Drive In Less Than a Decade? It’s Not as Far-Fetched as You Might Think
An Antimatter Drive In Less Than a Decade? It’s Not as Far-Fetched as You Might Think
Artist’s concept of Hbar Technologies’ antimatter probe.

IN BRIEF
Physicist Gerald Jackson thinks he can build an antimatter drive capable of taking us to the stars in less than a decade; all that’s needed is a little ready cash. To that end, his company, Hbar Technologies, is crowdfunding this lofty ambition with a Kickstarter campaign.
HAVE ANTIMATTER, WILL TRAVEL
Gerald Jackson, a former physicist at Fermilab, has a big dream. He thinks that, given unlimited funds, we could have a fully demonstrable, antimatter-propelled spacecraft prototype ready in less than a decade.
But since he doesn’t possess unlimited economic resources, and since the likelihood of any government underwriting a prohibitively expensive program in antimatter propulsion technology is pretty remote, he’s decided to turn to the guerrilla funding tactics of the 21st century: He’s starting a Kickstarter campaign.
The idea is to raise $200,000 to crowdfund initial antimatter propulsion research for Jackson’s company, Hbar Technologies.
It’s an ambitious goal, but the potential rewards are staggering. The creation of a functional antimatter engine would mean drastically reduced travel times for space probes, both within the solar system and in the interstellar spaces beyond. With potential velocities of 40% of the speed of light, it would mean that the stars would suddenly come within our reach; a journey lasting as long as the voyage of the New Horizons probe to Pluto would take us, not merely to the outermost bodies in our solar system, but to whole systems of planets circling nearby stars.
Some experts assert that a more realistic estimate of such a spacecraft’s speed would be about 0.10c (10% of the speed of light), but even this would represent a fantastic speed that is utterly beyond anything we have today, and it would still put a probe in the Alpha Centauri system (the closest alien system to our own) in just 40 years.
The problem is twofold: devising a lightweight propulsion system that doesn’t outweigh the payload by orders of magnitude; and actually getting one’s hands on significant enough quantities of antimatter, a notoriously difficult substance to come across (which, incidentally, is fortunate for those of us made of normal matter).
Jackson thinks he has a solution to the first problem. “[M]y Hbar partner, physicist Steven Howe, and I came up with a very light propulsion system whose mass was comparative to the payload—an antimatter sail,” he explains.

MAKING ANTIMATTER
As far as the antimatter production problem—that may be a bit more difficult. Antimatter on Earth can only be found where humans have created it, deep in the hearts of the world’s most powerful particle accelerators—one antiproton at a time.
Jackson and Howe estimated that only 17 grams of antihydrogen would be required to power their antimatter drive, which doesn’t sound like much; however, less than one gram of the stuff has been produced, and none of it has been contained for much more than a day. So to sum: It’s very difficult to store, and its production would require a multi-billion dollar particle collider solely dedicated to churning out antimatter day after day—a fantastically expensive project.
Still, Jackson continues to dream, and it is of such stuff that the future is built. He thinks he’s solved the containment issue, and he wants cash to build a proof-of-concept. The rest, he hopes, will follow in due time.
The glare of Alpha Centauri, one of the brightest stars in planet Earth’s night sky, floods the left side of this southern skyscape.

MEET THE CRAFT
Briefly, the spacecraft design outlined by Jackson and Howe is as follows—the probe will consist of four parts: A carbon “sail” coated with depleted uranium, a storage unit containing the requisite antihydrogen in solid form, an antiproton-powered electrical energy system, and a robotic imaging and instrument package (the science payload).
The actual motive principle behind the antimatter drive is a curious one. The antihydrogen is used to induce fission, and will produce 2 GeV (2 billion electron volts) of power—far in excess of anything standard chemical rockets generate. Upon striking a depleted uranium foil within the spacecraft, the antiprotons cause the uranium to fission, producing two “daughter” byproducts which are emitted in opposite directions.
One of these byproducts slams into the uranium-coated sail, imparting its momentum to it like wind bellying the cloth sails of a terrestrial clipper ship. The other byproduct is exhausted like a conventional rocket propellant—that process of “leaving something behind” quoted in the film Interstellar as the only way mankind has ever found of getting from one place to another in space. So there are really two propulsive engines at work simultaneously, which (theoretically) cause the spacecraft to accelerate rapidly to appreciable fractions of the speed of light.
It’s an interesting proposal, and well worth investigation. Perhaps, with Kickstarter funding, Jackson and Howe can start the serious business of making this science fictional technology a reality. That said, they estimate a further $100 million is needed to develop an Earth-based test to prove that the technology actually works…so that may only be something our progeny get to see.
“Crowdfunding may be a good way to show interest in the project when it comes time to find bigger investors or governmental support,” says Jackson.
After that, with sufficient will, and a couple of billion dollars burning a hole in one’s pocket, dispatching antimatter probes capable of 0.40c to the near stars shouldn’t be a problem at all.
Evidence for the existence of a “new” Ninth Planet, 10 times the Earth’s mass and lurking on the outer rim of the Solar System, just got a little bit firmer with the announcement of a new KBO.
But this distant world would be no pipsqueak, like the other icy, planetary embryos that we’ve discovered in the Kuiper Belt.
In fact, Brown and his team calculated a mass for the object of approximately 10 times the Earth’s, suggesting that it was the incipient core of a giant planet (like Jupiter or Saturn) that was jostled in the early phases of the Solar System’s formation, and rudely ejected into an astonishing 149 billion-kilometer (92 billion-mile) orbit, or nearly 75 times more distant than Pluto.
That means the hypothetical planet’s “year” can last anywhere from 10,000-20,000 terrestrial years.
Now, the evidence for the existence of such an object is indirect—specifically, the effect it seems to be having on neighboring outer Solar System bodies, called Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs). Six of these objects had been detected with wildly eccentric orbits, including the large planetoid Sedna, with an orbital period of 11,000 years.
Image of a slide showing the orbits of the KBOs suspected of betraying the presence of a Planet Nine. The orbit of the newly discovered, seventh KBO is the largest (“uo3L91”). Credit: OSSOS via Mike Brown’s Twitter feed.
“Hey Planet Nine fans, a new eccentric KBO was discovered. And it is exactly where Planet Nine says it should be,” Mike Brown tweeted. Furthermore, he says, the new object “takes the probability of this being a statistical fluke down to ~.001% or so.”
Whether this hypothetical, 10 Earth-mass planet is the famed “Nemesis” object, said to be responsible for cometary influxes that cause mass extinctions on Earth, remains to be seen (though astronomers are, understandably, skeptical); but with the detection of uo3L91, the case for something massive lurking in the outer Solar System, and affecting the orbits of distant planetoids, just got a little bit stronger.
But we’ll have to wait and see. Perhaps more such detections will let us nail down the giant planet’s orbital path; maybe then we’ll be able to snap a picture of it with some next-gen Earth-based telescope.
Till then, keep your eyes peeled for more eccentric KBOs.

Scientists Discover Quasar That Emits Jets Reaching 18 Trillion Degrees
NASA
IN BRIEF
New observations show temperatures in the jet of quasar 3C 273 in a distant galaxy were able to reach 18 trillion degrees Fahrenheit.
18 TRILLION°
Despite their name, black holes can actually light up the sky with huge bursts of radiation that shine brighter than all the surrounding stars. Astronomers believe these jets come from a ring of hot material around the black hole, called a quasar.
Artist’s concept of RadioAstronm the telescope that measured the black hole jets.
We’ve always thought there was a limit to how bright these jets could shine, and consequently how much heat they could produce. As the electrons inside the jet would heat up to over 170 billion degrees Fahrenheit, the jet would produce X-rays and gamma rays, which would interact with each other and then cool down the emissions.
Now though, new observations show temperatures in the jet of quasar 3C 273 in a distant galaxy were able to reach 18 trillion degrees Fahrenheit.
“This result is very challenging to explain with our current understanding of how relativistic jets of quasars radiate,” astronomer Yuri Kovalev said in a statement.
Scientists are still pretty shocked, and the team will need to do more research to figure out just how the quasar got so hot without cooling down. Luckily, they have some impressive technology on their side.
The team credits these results to interferometry, which occurs when multiple telescopes are linked together to get fine resolution of a distant object. Specifically, the team used a radio space telescope linked to several ground telescopes. They’re collectively called RadioAstron, and when they’re linked together, it’s equivalent to using a telescope the size of eight Earth diameters. Their resolution is about 1,000 times finer than the Hubble Space Telescope.
Thanks to this highly-detailed view, researchers actually discovered something else about 3C 272. It had previously unknown visible distortions to its substructure, as seem from Earth, caused by peering through the interstellar medium in our own Milky Way.
As our telescopic technology continues to improves, who knows what we might find next.

According to legend -- and a Texas historical marker -- early in the morning on April 17, 1897, something strange happened in the small town of Aurora, about 30 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
A cigar-shaped airship was seen falling from the sky when it crashed through a windmill and exploded. The airship, it is said, was not of this world. The pilot – from Mars, people thought at the time – was allegedly buried with Christian rites at the nearby Aurora Cemetery.
The Wise County town recently hosted a conference to commemorate the UFO crash. Folks have different opinions about what happened nearly 120 years ago.
Toni Wheeler first heard the story of the crash when she was a kid growing up in Aurora. An older neighbor would sit on his porch and tell stories.
“Then I started asking my grandfather about it and he would snicker about it,” Wheeler said. “And my grandmother said 'it’s hogwash.' But my uncles would discuss it. Especially my uncle Marvin. He loved to tell tall tales anyway, and he really got on telling all kinds of stories, and Ned’s story was one of them.”
They call him Ned
Many folks in Aurora call the alien Ned. He's the extra-terrestrial pilot that is said to have been buried in in the town. Wheeler came up with the name -- and it stuck.
Wheeler’s family has been in Aurora for several generations. She’s been Aurora’s city administrator for more than a decade.
On Saturday, Wheeler spent the day leading bus trips to the crash site and the old town cemetery. It was part of the Aurora Alien Encounter conference she helped organize.
Researchers have looked into the story for years, testing water in the well where the wreckage was said to be stored, digging metal out of trees at the crash site as proof something exploded, and using radar to see if there really is a Ned in Ned’s grave. In the 1970s, Wheeler says people even tried to exhume the remains.
“You cannot exhume a grave unless you notify the next of kin,” Wheeler says with a smile. “And that’s how the cemetery association got the court injunction in 1972 to keep them from exhuming the remains.”

Texas a UFO hotbed
This wasn’t the only UFO sighting in Texas in the spring of 1897. New telescope technology had allowed people to see the face of Mars more clearly than ever, though maybe not quite clearly enough.
An Italian astronomer in 1888 announced he’d seen evidence of canals on the red planet.
“People kind of freaked out,” says E.R. Bills, an author who wrote about the Aurora incident in his book Texas Obscurities. “It was the first serious discussion of maybe there being life. So when this crash happened here, you know, people had heard of that, and that’s why they assumed the pilot was from Mars.”
The Dallas Morning News, taking at face value that it was indeed an extra-terrestrial event, linked Ned's ship to a series of UFO sightings around the country and quoted a U.S. signal service officer who“gives it as his opinion that he was a native of the planet Mars.”
“Papers found on his on his person – evidently a record of his travels – are written in some unknown hieroglyphics, and cannot be deciphered," the newspaper reported.
“The ship was too badly wrecked to form any conclusion as to its construction or motive power. It was built of an unknown metal, resembling somewhat a mixture of aluminum and silver.”

Embracing the alien story?
There were lots of theories about what happened back in 1897. There still are. Some thought it was a man-made dirigible that crashed, others called it a hoax. Some at the time saw it as a sign of Judgment Day approaching.
These days, in Aurora, there’s more tension over whether the city should embrace the alien story.
"There’ve been people that are a part of our city council, that are a part of other committees throughout the city who have threatened resignation for us being involved in this,” says Amanda Smith, Aurora Historical and Preservation Commission secretary. “It is that serious.”
The conference is just one way the town is cashing in on its lore. There are plans for an alien-themed haunted house this fall. A statue is in the works -- featuring a broken windmill and the flying saucer Ned crashed.
“I live not far from here, and every day – every day – there are people lined up at the cemetery looking around,” Smith says. “And from a business standpoint, and a marketing standpoint, that is an asset we’re not capitalizing on.”
More than just a business opportunity, though, she says embracing the town’s quirky history is a way to preserve its unique identity as it is enveloped into the outer suburbs of Fort Worth. Without that history, she says, “our heritage goes away, and [Aurora] becomes just another part of the conglomerate.”
Smith says she was pleased with the conference’s turnout. The venue, she said, was at capacity. Conference organizers say they want this to be a yearly tradition.
'We're not the only ones out here'
Like a lot of attendees, Richard Wall says he’s had his own UFO encounter. Several years back, he says he saw glowing spheres in the night sky that flew off with a sonic boom. As for the 1897 crash, though, Wall is skeptical.
“I’m sure somebody saw something, and they’re trying to make something plausible of the story behind what they saw,” he says.
His wife, Dolly Moravitz- Wall, shook her head at her husband’s disbelief.
“I believe it,” she says. “I really do. Because there are other beings out there. We’re not the only ones out here.”
The two together share the views that so many people who turned out to learn more about the event: That even if Ned didn’t crash land in Aurora in 1897, it doesn’t mean Ned’s cousins aren’t out there.
