Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

As former NASA flight director Dr. Wernher von Braun said, “The laws for space flight found in the Hebrew scrolls, are so precise that we have no difficulty building a spaceship to fly to the moon and can time the flight with the precision of a fraction of a second”. These laws must have been set by somebody.” The planets in our solar system, also the stars in the entire universe, move at a rate that is more precise than most clocks designed and manufactured by man. The galaxy in which our solar system is located includes over 100 billion stars, and astronomers estimate that there are 100 billion such galaxies in the universe! One of the great mysteries of extraterrestrials and space flight as discussed in the Ezekiel document had to do with the Merkaba, Jehovah’s celestial time conveyance traditionally known as the “Divine Chariot” as documented by the prophet Ezekiel accompanied by the four-faced living creatures.

Kepler: The Planet Hunter
The Kepler telescope finds planets using the transit method. The telescope can detect tiny dips in a star’s light which may be due to a planet passing in front of the star from Earth’s perspective. Once those dips signifying possible planets are found in the data, scientists qualify them as “Kepler objects of interest” (or KOIs for short), which can then be validated as official planets after follow up observations confirm what Kepler saw. The new study potentially solves a major problem with gaining insights from Kepler, since it demonstrates a fully automated way of parsing the signal from the noise in the Kepler data. This will free up valuable time for the limited space telescopes around the world. Scientists will likely still need to do some follow-up observations with Kepler planets, but the new analysis is a good starting point for figuring out how many worlds the telescope has discovered. The technique researchers employed for this study relies on two different simulations to statistically verify the planets. According to Morton, the research team simulated the shape of transits in detail and also simulated how common they expect the false positives to be. If the “reliability score” combining those two simulations is more than 99 percent, then they were declared planets. Of the 4,302 possible planets in Kepler’s July 2015 catalog, the study found that 1,327 are “more likely planets” while 707 are “more likely imposters” with 1,284 validated and 984 that were previously confirmed, according to NASA. NASA Confirms Evidence That Liquid Water Flows on Today’s Mars
New findings from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) provide the strongest evidence yet that liquid water flows intermittently on present-day Mars.
Using an imaging spectrometer on MRO, researchers detected signatures of hydrated minerals on slopes where mysterious streaks are seen on the Red Planet. These darkish streaks appear to ebb and flow over time. They darken and appear to flow down steep slopes during warm seasons, and then fade in cooler seasons. They appear in several locations on Mars when temperatures are above minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 23 Celsius), and disappear at colder times. Temperatures reach 90 Fahrenheit in summer months around the equator.
“Our quest on Mars has been to ‘follow the water,’ in our search for life in the universe, and now we have convincing science that validates what we’ve long suspected,” said John Grunsfeld, astronaut and associate administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate in Washington. “This is a significant development, as it appears to confirm that water — albeit briny — is flowing today on the surface of Mars.”
These downhill flows, known as recurring slope lineae (RSL), often have been described as possibly related to liquid water. The new findings of hydrated salts on the slopes point to what that relationship may be to these dark features. The hydrated salts would lower the freezing point of a liquid brine, just as salt on roads here on Earth causes ice and snow to melt more rapidly. Scientists say it’s likely a shallow subsurface flow, with enough water wicking to the surface to explain the darkening. These dark, narrow, 100 meter-long streaks called recurring slope lineae flowing downhill on Mars are inferred to have been formed by contemporary flowing water. Recently, planetary scientists detected hydrated salts on these slopes at Hale crater, corroborating their original hypothesis that the streaks are indeed formed by liquid water. “It took multiple spacecraft over several years to solve this mystery, and now we know there is liquid water on the surface”, said Michael Meyer, lead scientist for NASA’s Mars Exploration Program at the agency’s headquarters in Washington. “It seems that the more we study Mars, the more we learn how life could be supported and where there are resources to support life in the future.” Website

Baltic Sea UFO
This is something that just came to light today thanks to Youtube UFO research. He found out that Titanium (Ti) was in high abundance in the Baltic Sea UFO and that it was in higher concentration that other most elements. Titanium seems like a great material to make a UFO out of since its stronger than steel and lighter. Not to mention that titanium is used today to make aerospace vehicles, missiles and jet engines, because it has a high heat resistance. New ‘Superhenge’? Remains found near Stonehenge
“Our high-resolution ground penetrating radar data has revealed an amazing row of up to 90 standing stones, a number of which have survived after being pushed over, and a massive bank placed over the stones,” said professor Wolfgang Neubauer, director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Archaeological Prospection and Virtual Archaeology.
“In the east up to 30 stones, measuring up to size of 4.5 x 1.5 x 1 meters (14.7 x 5 x 3.3 feet), have survived below the bank whereas elsewhere the stones are fragmentary or represented by massive foundation pits,” he said.
The newly discovered structures are believed to be 4,500 years old. Questions also arise about the landscape the builders of Stonehenge inhabited and how they changed this with the building of new monuments during the third millennium BC. “The extraordinary scale, detail and novelty of the evidence produced by the Stonehenge Hidden Landscapes Project, which the new discoveries at Durrington Walls exemplify, is changing fundamentally our understanding of Stonehenge and the world around it,” said Paul Garwood, an archaeologist and lead historian on the project at the University of Birmingham. “Everything written previously about the Stonehenge landscape and the ancient monuments within it will need to be rewritten.” Website
In Maria’s new book “Stonehenge’s Elongated Skulls”, the people with the long skulls built long structures and later at Stonehenge, Avebury and numerous English archeological sites. People with elongated skulls were rulers in Egypt, Sumer, and Peru and associated with royalty. The mummified remains of Pharaohs often have elongated skulls. Pharaoh Akhenaton and Queen Nefertiti in Egypt who believed in one God had elongated skulls.
Maria has evaluated the remains of the elongated skulls and determined they were all murdered and their long lost history lost. Apparently, a group of invaders decided to eradicate the people of the elongated skulls after they settled the area for hundreds of years and likely built Stonehenge. She has also discovered a Neolithic High Queen that was laid to rest in the largest and longest barrow ever constructed in prehistoric Britain. Her book explains the untold history of the elongated skulls and how it was hidden from the Western world. Website.
It is thought the elongated skulls found in the Stonehenge area may not be human. They could come from an entirely new species that fits outside of the known evolutionary tree with the capability of advanced technology.
Cosmic Energy Research reports the people of the elongated skull apparently were able to utilize the energy in the stones to create heat or to formulate them in some way. In Western Europe, sixty fortresses were built using technology that indicates they could melt or form stone. Arthur C. Clarke has experimentally proved that using the firewood available at that time they could not reach the necessary temperatures to melt the stone. Thus, we can speculate that transforming or accumulating some type of cosmic energy gained the necessary temperature to melt the stone. Cosmic Energy Research also claims it can be derived that by connecting energy sources in a suitable manner, the energy components could also be used for defense purposes. The frequent sightings of UFOs in the area suggest the craft may have also used this energy.
The skull shown with teeth was found at West Kennet Long Barrow not far from Stonehenge. The other picture is from NASA showing the skull or a sculptured rock from Mars that suggests Martians or other aliens had elongated skulls. Some areas of Mars have pyramids and Pharaoh like statues. The entire Stonehenge area has exceptional people with elongated skulls that may have come from Mars or some other planet. They built Silbury Hill the largest prehistoric man-made mound in Europe called the “Hill of the Shining Beings, We know that Mars atmosphere and water diminished with some type of catastrophe and that gravity there is much less than on Earth. Mars gravity is only one sixth of Earths and to launch a spaceship from Mars would be relatively easy compared to a craft leaving Earth. An elongated skull is shown at the right as found on Mars.
Some of the persons with elongated skulls were buried in the West Kennet Long Barrow a Neolithic tomb, situated on a prominent chalk ridge, near Silbury Hill. The construction of the West Kennet Long Barrow commenced about 3600 BC, which is some 400 years before the first stage Stonehenge, and it was in use until around 2500 BC. Archaeological excavations in 1859 and 1955-56 found at least 46 burials, ranging from babies to elderly persons with elongated skulls. Hundreds of elongated skulls have now been found of unarmed men killed at ages of 3 to 25 years old indicating genocide. Wiltshire is where many crop circles and UFOs are frequently reported. Some people claim Wiltshire is a portal where craft from other planets arrive.

Researchers L.A. Marzulli and Brien Foerster claim elongated human or humanoid skulls have been found on six continents, and some islands in the tropical areas of the Pacific Ocean and Malta. Archaeologists agree that in most cases these intriguing skulls were those of the nobility of the cultures in which they have been found, but are at a loss to explain why practices such as cranial deformation were performed. Could it be that there were people in the distant past that were born with elongated heads, and that through mixing with normal humans head boarding had to be performed on their descendants in order to maintain their distinct appearance? Certain ruling classes were often taller than their subjects were red-heads and a sub-race of people born with elongated skulls. We know there was a race of redheaded rulers all over the ancient world. A lot of nations are trying to hide this history today, like China, New Zealand and Egypt. Brian claims that perhaps all ancient cultures that practiced mummification might have had redheaded rulers during their early period. We’ve got redheaded giants in North America as well. So, that’s another sub-race. Foerster and Marzulli have seen hundreds of examples from all parts of the world.
Foerster claims that several races of people were discovered by the Conquistadors and through various means wiped them out. No major culture developed in isolation. This is why we have ancient temples dedicated to the Egyptian Isis as far as Great Britain, and how the story of a global flood is repeated in the mythology of an estimated 200 to 600 different cultures. If a redheaded ruling class existed, as the evidence infers, then surely the European Imperialists wiped them out so they could become the ruling class themselves. The biggest difference is that these redheaded people weren’t ruling thousands of years ago, but as late as the 15th to 17th centuries.

Researchers L.A. Marzulli and Brien Foerster have new findings and theories about the mysterious elongated skulls from Peru. While many of the ancient skull elongations are due to intentional deformations through head binding, a group of elongated skulls from Paracas on the south coast of Peru have 25% more cranial volume. Preliminary DNA testing of material from five of the Paracas skulls shocked a major geneticist in the United States, Foerster reported. “There are segments from the DNA of at least one sample, if not more, that are not found in the GenBank, which is the global database of human and animal DNA,” and they don’t match anything Homo Sapiens, Neanderthal or Denisovan, he continued.
Foerster postulated that the elongated skulls of Paracas were a part of a lost race/royal bloodline that lived around 2,000 years ago, and initiated the Nazca Lines in Peru, before their race was wiped out by the people living at Nazca. Marzulli discussed the testing of a hair sample from the Paracas skull which turned out to have surprising similarities to a strand of hair said to be from an alien hybrid. He believes that the large-skulled Paracas might have been a branch of the ancient Nephilim, who appear in modern day as alien abductors.
Tom Reed’s Abduction
SHEFFIELD, Mass.(NEWS10) – My good friend Tom Reed is the man behind the discovery of an UFO encounter is being honored with a monument. The commemorative monument is dedicated to the official induction of our nation’s first off-world UFO incident. The monument was installed and funded by a coalition of witnesses present on that fateful night in 1969. Thomas Reed was one of those witnesses. Reed says he was his family’s station wagon adjacent to the Old Sheffield Covered Bridge in Sheffield, Massachusetts. Reed says after his mom drove over the bridge, they started seeing lights. The car came to a stop. The sound of frogs and crickets that had filled the night air just moments before dissipated. Lights filled the station wagon, silence, and then a loud bang reverberated through the night air. “You could see the lights flickering through the trees,” says Reed. “We were all just no longer in the vehicle anymore.”When Reed regained consciousness, he says his family was in a spacious industrial building. Something grabbed him from his left, guided him through a door and into a room on his right. “I ran at that point,” said Reed. “I came into a large intersecting hallway.” “I was covered with an apparatus,” he said. “I was put back into this room. I could hear my mother’s voice, my grandmother; at least I believe it was them.”Reed explained that he heard women’s voices calling out to him. The next thing he knew, he was back in his family’s car. The same night of the encounter, others reported similar experiences to WSPS Radio. Jesse Stewart, an employee of WSPS Radio, reported hearing from an 81-year-old woman who had been driving out to Stockbridge that evening. Following a recent call with Reed, Steward says she followed-up again.“It puts a chill down your back,” Reed explains. “It gives you a little bit of an upset stomach, because it was a strange night forus”
It is interesting that the monument has been vandalized as the Police reported.

Arizona Rectangle
Phoenix — I was on Southwest Flight 1912 about 25 minutes out of Phoenix on April 28, 2016, and I was sitting in window seat on left side of plane as you look forward. I was enjoying the view and noticed the brilliant while rectangular shape in the distance. It was slightly lower than our altitude, and appeared miles away. My first thought was another plane, but the shape and brilliant and did not make sense. Neither did the lack of motion. When I realized it wasn’t a plane, I turned on my iPhone and took several pictures.
I zoomed the camera in as far as I could and located the object in the screen. The auto-focus was not ready for the first picture, but the second two were in focus. What is really odd is the object was brilliant white in the view screen, but came out dark and a different shape in the pictures. As I was looking at the pictures the object went out of my vision. Yosemite National Park — I did not notice the object as I was taking a series of photos in Yosemite National Park in California at 12:15 PM, on April 15, 2016.To my surprise when I recently reviewed the photos I discovered the object.

Huron— This was recorded from my dash cam on May 7th 2016 about 3:00 hours. On I-5 around the 325 mile mark, heading south. I was traveling with three other trucks that also saw this craft. I first saw a light sweep the sky on the right side of this video frame. One swept across the sky and a second one occurred a few seconds later. A couple more second passed and we saw bright white lights maybe two miles out in front of us, very low to the ground. It crossed the interstate and climbed and started to circle heading east and returned to roughly the same place it crossed the interstate and crossed back going west, and then the lights disappeared.
I was talking on the CB with the other driver about the strange way the object was maneuvering at such a low altitude. I noticed lights reflecting on my passenger window and I saw this craft coming straight at me. I thought it was going to crash into me. It had three very bright white spotlights across the front. As it approached it slowed and banked almost in place and came up over my truck. It had no wings, no marking lights, no fuselage, and no tail. Note: check out the video here Website. Richmond Heights – On May 3, 2016, my family and I just left the St. Louis Cardinal game, we were driving west on Highway 40, and was the first to see it. About four miles southwest, I could see an extremely bright row of lights. Four round, very large set of lights were side by side. I pointed it out to my husband and son. My husband said “It’s just lights on top of a building or crane, no big deal”… As we got closer to it we realized there were NO buildings or cranes around! The lights were straight forward like headlights. As soon as we got onto Highway 270 my husband pulled to the shoulder so I could try and get some better pictures of this “floating light tower”. It seemed like it was less than a quarter of a mile to the right of us at that point. Since we were stopped and now looking up at this thing we realized it was moving really slow. We could now see its triangular shape with two in front toward the outer tip of the wings and two toward the top center. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Manahawkin — Home security system sounded an alarm on May 8, 2016, when viewed, it showed a white orb about the size of a grapefruit moving in an intelligent way on top of our vehicle.
It reappears again 34 seconds in video then vanishes. This is not a hoax or a joke or an effort to gain fame fortune or any notoriety.
I would like an explanation! I have never seen a UFO in my life. The video must be viewed and was captured by the security system not by me and is untouched and not modifies in any way whatsoever. Thanks to MUFON CMS
New Mexico Sightings
Sunland– On May 7, 2016, I was recording a video outside my house just for fun. The video was recorded with an iPod 5th generation. I had put my iPod down still on recording and seconds later it fell down due to the wind and it led the device to aim at the sky. When I watched the video 10 minutes later I realized that when it was recording the sky it caught a really fast moving object.
At first I thought it was just a bird, but then I thought how could a bird fly that fast. I took a screenshot at the screen at the exact moment the object appeared. I zoomed in and it looked very much like a UFO. The video was uploaded to YouTube, I slow motioned it and added the zoomed in images. Thanks to MUFON CMS
Aztec– On Tuesday May 3rd, 2016 at 8:50 am, I was outside of my house photographing buzzards as they flew past my home. After I snapped off a few images of one particular bird, they flew off. After they were out of sight I decided to take a quick peek at the panel on my Canon Rebel T3i camera. When I opened the viewer on my camera I came across this one.
The bird itself was not carrying anything as I tracked the same bird for a few minutes and never noticed anything other than the bird and a blue beautiful sky. I was photographing in a northwest direction with no sound. All other frames have nothing in them but the bird. After 16 years behind the lens, I am just really stunned at this object in the frame.
I have run this image through a series of filters; a standard light monochrome, blue and green filters. Separately, each has revealed a great portion of the detail in that object. The object in a monochrome tone reveals a disc like object moving at what seems an incredible speed. My camera shutter was set at 1/250 and I was tracking the bird and the UFO at very different speeds in different directions. Thanks to MUFON CMS
New York Lights
Clinton Park — This thing freaked me out because it was ejecting orbs drones out of it. Once I broke out the camera it disappeared…I have never seen this type of anti-gravity air-craft in person before. This thing looks like a plane without wings. It made no sound –

North Carolina Orb
Boonville – I went outside to walk my dog around 2:40 am on May 8, 2016, and initially heard a hum. I went around the side of house and noticed an orb was not moving north in a normal fashion. It was not a helicopter.
I hurried back in to get my camera 300 mm lens and got fairly good pictures and video. When I got back out the object had hardly moved it was maybe a mile away but up less than 1500 feet.
My flash went off a few times as the wind picked up and they were causing uncontrollable movements, like I had to lock down to keep from over steering my body as I was swaying and twisting. Also I had an unusual strong sex drive while I was filming and the object started moving side to side, east then west.

Springfield— This was found, while I was doing a simple Google search of a house my family was looking into buying. The address listed in the details of this report is where the object can be seen, while doing a simple Google search.
Below this I will list a direct link that should bring you to the site in which the said house is listed as sold. Just simply use the street view to look at the sky and follow a “streak” at the end is some kind of “red object”.

Nathalie – I could not clear the picture on April 28, 2016, the object was very visible to me and two other people with me. It was about two weeks ago, It was triangle shaped object moving very slow and appeared to hover just above the tree line.
It was being followed by a regular shaped jet, also black. They circled around the area about three times. Not sure if it was a UFO or military but it just seemed very strange. As it seemed to hover I took a picture as it slowly turned to the north and slowly pulled away.
That is when I noticed the regular craft behind it. I thought I took a video but must have gotten excited and forgot to hit record. It was so low to the ground I was scared. We were being invaded by another country. All I know is that it was large and posted it on Facebook and another friend saw it. I did not get a good picture either, just red light. And another friend posted that it landed in a field behind her home.

Washington Triangle
Turnbull — My friends and I go to school at Eastern Washington University which is about 5 to 10 minutes away from where we saw this UFO on April 28, 2016. We decided to take a late night drive down to Turnbull Wildlife Refuge. We parked the car on the side of the road where it opened up from thick woods to an open grassland. We were talking and see a bright light rotating like a lighthouse light. We found this odd since it was so high up in the sky and as it got closer we realized the object had a beam of light coming off of it like a searchlight and it was scanning the ground like it was looking for something. It looked like a spotlight of some sort. The object kept moving quickly in all sorts of directions like it was dancing in the sky and this is what freaked us out the most. It was so agile in its movements that it almost didn’t seem possible for something to move so quickly with such sudden change in direction. It kept getting closer and eventually stopped and hovered about 500 feet in the sky and about a half mile away from us. Its search beam kept scanning and eventually the beam crossed paths with our parked car.The beam pointed straight in front of the object and the object started moving forward towards us and we were in a panic. The object gracefully flew over us at a very slow speed and it made very little sound and its light beam pointed straight like a normal plane. We had the sunroof open and it flew directly over us and stopped what it was doing and tried to fly over us like a normal plane. It was a giant triangle about the size of 4 school busses put together and it had a green light at each of the triangles points along with its very bright search beam. Note Depiction of Triangle. Note: The witnesses quite likely did not see a helicopter. Helicopters would be louder and the object flew right over their vehicle. Also the triangular shape and green lights would rule out a helicopter sighting. I have received similar reports from “spooked motorists” in remote locations in Eastern Washington. Saint Catherines– On May 9, 2016, I was parking a truck out back and got out I looked up and saw this light. It was not a white light but more of an orange glow the plane travel to Buffalo was behind me going east. This thing was going south I didn’t see blinking lights like the planes going by and the hazy cloud cover it disappeared.
I waited to see if it was going to keep its slow direct travel path to clear skies but it never did. I started taping b/c I couldn’t recognize it. I’m a us vet and worked for five years at Detroit Airport. I know what a plane looks like I said I need to tape this and took a picture of before and after. It made no noise as later I could hear planes afterwards.

Wittenberg/SA– Twelve years ago, my girlfriend and my best friend and I, were sitting in a field near the Elbe River on August 10, 2004. I heard on tv that a meteorite shower could be seen in Eastern Germany and told it to my friends. After midnight we counted 30 glowing meteorites, and then my girlfriend stands up and said, “Hey guys there are three red lights and they are coming in direction to us.” At this moment my friend and I could see a triangle-formed black thing with three lights that was pulsating. This thing became bigger and bigger on its way to us.And I remember that I saw this form also in a tv-documentation about the Belgium UFO-events! It was very slow, maybe a speed of 10 km/hour, or more! When the UFO was directly in front of us the UFO became slowly and its lights changed their colors-red-orange-yellow-green-blue-white, and we were overwhelmed. Now the UFO was standing still above us! I began to speak: Hey i’m peaceful and your friend, please take me with you. We got a little scared as the dark triangle UFO is above us. And then after a few minutes, two different lights in the middle of the UFO began pulsating in red and white. Prilep — The witness writes, “I took a photo of a UFO object on April 17, 2016. Cylinder shaped subject was below the Moon at 3:07 PM.”
Palmerston — A man reports a sighting north of Palmerston of an object he could not identify. It was widely reported in the NZ media as a number of people saw it. I am pretty sure it was in the early months of 1985. It was a lovely, quiet, still summer night. I saw it while driving up the Stockton Millerton Mines Road where I lived in the Millerton village. I had a witness in the car with me. This was about 10.45 PM. The Stockton mine and the Millerton village is in Northern Buller. I do remember my head felt a bit weird the next morning. Taiwan Lights
Taroko National Park — I was getting a military course in Taiwan, when we visited the, started taking pictures of the mountains on April 20, 2008. There are monasteries that are nestled on the mountain but I did not notice anything strange on a fairly clear day. It is noteworthy that these mountains are mostly granite.
Once I returned to my country Costa Rica my children downloaded he digital camera photos and passed to the computer noticing two boxes where it is observed what appears to be two objects in motion are surrounded by a circle lights. Thanks to MUFON CMS
UK England Light
East Preston — Light in the sky was not visible to the naked eye but was caught in a photograph on 6th May 2016 one of the hottest days of the year on the south coast of England. At 2052 local time, my wife and I were standing in our back garden at twilight. I decided to take a photograph of our blossoming cherry tree with my Kodak FZ151, 16 Megapixel camera. As I took the photo I noticed a very bright white dot on the camera’s LCD screen. I looked up but there was nothing visible there.
I took another photograph about 5 – 10 seconds later, but could not replicate this white light so I assume that it could not been a reflection. I was very surprised when I looked at the photograph on my laptop’s screen.
The white dot was considerably bigger than I expected. Upon zooming in, it appears that the light is shaped like a “V” on its side. I note that one “leg” of the “V” is not as bright as the other. The position of the light in the image is above the English Channel. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Why We Must Explore the Final Frontier: An Interview with Alan Stern

Alan Stern, the man who brought us to Pluto, explains the value of venturing beyond the bounds of Earth and entering the unknown.
Every species has a special trait, an evolutionary advantage that allows them to survive and thrive…to keep ahead of the predators and on top of the prey. Our special trait should really come as no great surprise: It’s the human brain.
More specifically, it is our ability to explore and discover, to seek out new information and then communicate what we learn to others of our kind who can build upon (and improve) it. Ultimately, there are few who understand the importance of this knowledge and exploration better than Alan Stern.
After all, Stern is a man who (quite literally) took humanity to new worlds.
PLUTO: A VOYAGE INTO THE UNKNOWN
For over 70 years, Pluto was the 9th planet in our solar system. Then, in 2003, the International Astronomical Union decided to reclassify this tiny world as a dwarf planet. But the demotion didn’t make it any less interesting.
It lives some 5.8 billion km (3.6 billion miles) out in our solar system. For comparison, Earth is just 150 million km (92 million miles) from the solar surface—meaning that Pluto is a staggering 40 times farther from the center of the solar system than our own planet.
Stern is head of the New Horizons mission to Pluto, which had its historic flyby just a year ago (in the summer of 2015). Recently, I met with Stern at the 2016 Edison Awards. There, he highlighted the value of knowledge and of exploring the unknown—and he emphasized the monumental feats that we can accomplish when, as a society and as a world, we truly invest in these things.
WHY LEAVE HOME?

When asked about the value of venturing out into the cosmos to explore, Stern was quick to note that such enterprises are worthy for a number of reasons, but that, for him, two stick out in particular: “Beyond the obvious—that we’re creating new knowledge—we create a greater society. We do something which is, in the case of great exploration, historic. It’s something people read about, not just days and weeks later, but decades and centuries later. It makes a mark for our time of what we aspire to be, which is a greater society.”
In short, the things that we invest in (whether that is sports, or war, or science) are a direct reflection of both the values that we hold and the society that we are currently building.
Stern adds that, while globe spanning enterprises obviously impact society as a whole, they also have a great influence on individuals. He asserts, “It inspires. Particularly, it turns young people on to science, technology, engineering, and math careers, and it inspires them to be a part of the knowledge and the tech economy.”
Stern continues by highlighting the significance of such encouragement: “Nothing in what we do with the technology, the management, the innovation, nothing in the science that we can accomplish is as important…nothing is as important as the way that we can touch people with inspirational projects like this.”
He concludes by noting that, in these respects, through such exploration and discovery, “We do something a little larger than life, we create the future.”

Of course, there is still a lot of space left to explore, but when I asked Stern the next great project that he’s most excited about, he didn’t mention a trip to Europa to search for alien life or the first off world colony—he spoke about humanity.
“On the very largest front, the things that I’m most excited about have to do with life extension, because when people can live two or three times the current lifespan, I think it’s going to change our society in fundamental ways,” Stern asserts. And he continued by noting the ways in which longevity will fundamentally alter how we think and live: “The way that we care about the environment because we have stick with it over a lot longer period, the way you care about the future, and about how we all get along with each other…I think all those things are going to be radically transformed by life extension. I think it’s one of the most exciting frontiers in science.”
And in the end, this is really what all science and discovery is about—making us better humans.

CONFIDENTIAL government reports into Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) sightings - dubbed the "British X-Files" - could be made publicly available within DAYS.
Will the files reveal the truth about aliens visiting Earth?
Alien hunters, who believe the files kept secret by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for more than 30 years could shed new light on the infamous Renbdlesham UFO case, were given the a boost after officials confirmed the records would transfer to the National Archives this month.
UFO researchers, backed by a House of Lords peer, have been fighting for the release of 18 top secret Ministry of Defence (MoD) files about UFO sightings and government investigations.
The Government has long faced claims of an alien cover-up from conspiracy theorists when their release was stalled at the end of 2013. They were again stalled this March.
Some investigators claim the files could provide key evidence of extra-terrestrial life visiting the UK and of specific information about famous controversial sightings such as the Rendlesham Forest incident - a series of reported sightings by military officers of unexplained lights and the alleged landing of one or more craft in Suffolk in late December 1980.
The Redlesham Forest incident, which is alleged to have taken place near RAF Woodbridge, Suffolk, in 1980, saw US Airman First Class John Burroughs, who was stationed there, exposed to radiation after a mystery "UFO visitation".

The files could be with the National Archives within days
I can confirm that we are currently negotiating a date around the 25th of this month for transferring these files which are in the DEFE 24 series.
MoD spokesman
Last summer he asked in a Parliamentary question: "In relation to the 18 Ministry of Defence files on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) that have yet to be released to the public, what is the originating division of the file reference M9/18; what is the remit of that division in relation to UAP; and what is their latest estimate of when the 18 files will be passed to the National Archives, and then released to the public."
Defence Minister Earl Howe replied: "The originating branch of file reference MO9/18 relates to ministers' private offices. The latest estimate of when the 18 files will be delivered to the National Archives is before March 2016.
"The National Archives will make the necessary judgement about when they release these files to the public."
Nick Pope, who used to investigate the existence of UFOs for the MoD, said the files should contain some fascinating sightings.
However, referring to what is often called the most famous UFO claim in history - sparked by claims an alien spaceship crashed in New Mexico, US, in 1947 - Mr Pope added the soon-to-be-released files are probably not a "UK Roswell-style UFO in a hangar style cover up".
He has since won damages from the American military, but still wants answers about what happened and hopes they will be in the new files.
Alien hunters are confident these records could prove if extra-terrestrial life actually exists, as these were the most secretive files held in the private offices of various Cabinet ministers.
Although the files are being released to the National Archives, it is not yet clear when they will be available for public inspection.
Lord Black of Brentwood has been fighting for their release.
When the release of the files were stalled in 2014, which the MoD blamed on "additional processing requirements", Mr Pope sympathised with alien researchers.
He said at the time: "This massive delay will have conspiracy theorists up in arms. It looks like the MoD is stalling."
Mr Pope worked at the MoD for 21 years, but was specifically assigned to investigate UFOs for a three-year period.
He said: "Having worked on the MoD's UFO project I'm sorry to say that we don't have any crashed spaceships hidden away in some RAF hangar, as some believe, but we do have some fascinating and unexplained cases in our files."
The latest news of the files was revealed by alien hybrid researcher Miguel Mendonça via Facebook today.
He posted: "I just received this update on the release of 18 formerly classified UK UFO files from the MOD FOI Team:
"'Thank you for your request regarding an update on the remaining UFO files due to be transferred to the National Archives (TNA).
"I can confirm that we are currently negotiating a date around the 25th of this month for transferring these files which are in the DEFE 24 series.
"The files should be available to view once TNA’s accession team have completed their processes.'"

Media coverage of what has come to be called the “Hillary Clinton UFO story” has gone from quiet mentions in lesser known publications to bodacious stories from major news organizations.
In the past 48 hours, both The New York Times and The Times of London have addressed a complicated, mystifying narrative which has emerged in past months. Mrs. Clinton, former President Bill Clinton, senior advisor John Podesta and even President Obama have publicly acknowledged UFOs, extraterrestrials and other topics previously confined to the X-Files realm.
“UFO fans are rooting for Hillary Clinton to win the White House, hoping that her avid interest in theories of alien life will lead to secret U.S. files on the subject being made public,” the New York paper noted Tuesday.
On Thursday, the news out of London was this: “Mrs. Clinton has vowed that barring any threats to national security, she would open up government files on the subject, a shift from President Obama, who typically dismisses the topic as a joke. Her position has elated U.F.O. enthusiasts, who have declared Mrs. Clinton the first ‘E.T. candidate’.”
MSNBC, Discovery Channel, The Boston Globe, The London Daily Telegraph, The Weekly Standard and a dozen other publications also covered the story Thursday. This year alone, the topic generated some 350 news accounts.
Stephen Bassett, a registered lobbyist and “disclosure” activist who has urged the White House, military and federal government to release official records about such phenomena, deems the “political media coverage of the extraterrestrial presence issue” unprecedented.
Mr. Bassett has followed Mrs. Clinton’s link to it all since 2001, his intense interest punctuated by press conferences, public events and congressional outreach. He also founded a research group and XXPAC - the “Extraterrestrial Political Action Committee.”
Mr. Bassett, along with increasing cadre of journalists now following the story, say the former secretary of state’s interest in the subject can be traced back 21 years ago to her personal meeting with billionaire Laurance S. Rockefeller, who had long urged U.S. leaders to disclose some facts about the reported crash of a UFO in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947.
“Secretary Clinton will not make it into the White House without discussing the Rockefeller initiative with the American people,” Mr. Bassett said in an interview.
The press, meanwhile, is now covering the Clinton/ET connection from a unique political angle, rather than as a sensational novelty designed to titillate the public and ramp up social media.
“Trust me. This is not about ‘clicks,’” said Mr. Bassett, referring to the goal of many journalists who seek to increase the online reader “clicks” for their work.
In a recent development that could easily be part of a Men in Black movie, a woman claiming to be a former Nasa employee revealed that she saw humans on Mars in 1979.
According to a Yahoo News report, the woman, called ‘Jackie’, called in to American radio station Coast to Coast AM with the claim – which reignited gossip over a ‘secret space programme’ kept from the general public.
Jackie claims to have seen space-suited humans via a live video feed from Mars – but apparently, the information was covered up by Nasa bosses.
Jackie claimed to have been part of a ‘downstairs’ team working on downlink telemetry from the Viking Lander – the first vehicle to send back images from the surface of Mars.
“I wonder if you could solve a 27-year-old mystery for me,” she asked the presenter. “That old Viking rover was running around. Then I saw two men in space suits – not the bulky suits we normally used, but they looked protective. They came over the horizon walking to the Viking Explorer.”
As per Jackie, she along with six others rushed to the main Nasa office to report what they had witnessed, only to have the door shut in their faces.
“We ran upstairs – but they locked the door, and taped paper over the door so we couldn’t see. My question is – were they our guys?”
None of the other employees who were allegedly with Jackie when she spotted the aliens have corroborated this story – but UFO sites have joined it with other reports of a ‘secret space programme’ which began when humans landed on Mars in 1968.
“Conspiracy theorists believe that this is being kept from the ordinary public for various sinister reasons – and that NASA and other governments are covertly in contact with aliens,” states the Yahoo report.
“In November 2005, a contact called ‘anonymous’, who said they worked for the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) started sending information about an extraordinary alien exchange programme, called Project Serpo. Basing his claims on a 3,000-page document written in the late 1970s, he boldly claimed that six aliens were recovered from the Roswell crash.
“Claims that aliens living and/or dead were recovered from the Roswell crash are nothing new, but in this case it was stated that an alien survivor from the crash, called EBE 1, helped to organise twelve specially trained people to visit his home planet Serpo in the Zeta Reticuli solar system. This mission occurred in 1965 and they remained there until 1978. During their stay two of them died, two remained on the planet and the rest, after returning to Earth, have died because of the high levels of radiation they were exposed to on Serpo.”

In 1961, the KGB launched Project ISIS, a top-secret program designed to obtain alien technology. It culminated with the discovery of a 13,000 year-old alien body inside a tomb in the Giza Plateau in Egypt.
In the early years of the Cold War, Russian military officials feared the United States had gained a tactical advantage through reverse-engineering alien technology, presumably by studying UFOs such as the one that crashed near Roswell. Determined to possess advanced technology themselves, the Russians used their intelligence services to locate several places where extraterrestrial artifacts might be found.
One of these places was an ancient tomb located in the Giza Plateau in Egypt. They based their search on an old legend about the Tomb of the Visitor God.
As the story goes, two Bedouins accidentally stumbled upon the ancient resting place of an alien visitor. Immediately after entering the tomb, the two men fell ill and were hospitalized. Before they succumbed to the mysterious illness, they were able to give details about the tomb’s whereabouts.
The Egyptian authorities traded this information with their Russian allies, who wanted to reach the Tomb of the Visitor God before the CIA found out about it. As a result, they quickly organized a Project ISIS expedition. A group of Soviet Egyptologists, scientists and military personnel were assisted by their Egyptian counterparts in locating the tomb. This information is verified by Russian scientist Viktor Ivanvich, who had access to classified KGB documents:
There is no doubt that a small group of Russian scientists with military experts have discovered a tomb in Egypt in 1961. But in the documents it has never been revealed exactly what was found inside the sarcophagus. Only sources of the highest ranks of the KGB know that we have found the remains of an alien creature that died in Egypt 10,000 before Christ.”
The Russian-Egyptian expedition managed to uncover the tomb and reportedly secured numerous artifacts. According to a report to a senior officer of the KGB, 15 boxes of artifacts were taken from the Tomb of the Visitor God.
Hieroglyphic inscriptions were copied and translated. Among the inscriptions was a prophecy foretelling about the return of a winged alien god. The report also mentions the presence of a protective barrier:
During the inspection of the walls we noticed a strange repulsive force coming out of the walls. We could not find any scientific explanation.”
Most presidential candidates spend much of their time talking about policy issues, making campaign promises, or impugning their opponents. However in the current race both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have gone somewhat off-topic and into fringe beliefs including conspiracies.
While Trump has outright endorsed several conspiracy theories—President Obama’s “fake” birth certificate being a prime example—Clinton has been more non-committal, but she has made public statements about UFOs, including recently on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
The “New York Times” noted that Clinton’s “unusual knowledge about extraterrestrials struck a small but committed cohort of voters. Mrs. Clinton has vowed that barring any threats to national security, she would open up government files on the subject…. Her position has elated U.F.O. enthusiasts, who have declared Mrs. Clinton the first ‘E.T. candidate.’”
Previous government officials have made efforts to bring any extant UFO files to light. New Mexico Congressman Steve Schiff, for example, made efforts in the 1980s to find out what the Air Force knew about possible alien visitation.
In March Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta was quoted in a “Huffington Post” story as saying he’d convinced the candidate to declassify UFO files: “I’ve talked to Hillary about that. There are still classified files that could be declassified. I think I’ve convinced her that we need an effort to kind of go look at that and declassify as much as we can, so that people have their legitimate questions answered. More attention and more discussion about unexplained aerial phenomena can happen without people—who are in public life, who are serious about this—being ridiculed.”
Podesta added that “the American people, quite frankly, can handle the truth.”
Podesta is referring to an unanswered question that has vexed UFO believers for decades: If extraterrestrials have in fact visited Earth why would the world’s governments bother to hide evidence of it? With so many photos, videos, eyewitness reports, and other evidence (of varying credibility) why not just acknowledge people’s suspicions?
The typical conspiracy theorist answer is that the world’s governments have hidden evidence of extraterrestrial life because the public “isn’t ready to know” or “can’t handle the truth,” that somehow knowledge that aliens have been abducting people, inserting anal probes in them, making designs in wheat fields, and so on is too psychologically or socially shocking for the public. UFO conspiracy theorists claim that if the U.S. government revealed what it knows about aliens the public would panic and society would crumble. Or something.
However there’s no reason to think that’s true. The fact is that most people already think that extraterrestrials not only have visited Earth but may even be secretly living among us. According to a 1997 CNN poll, “80 percent of Americans think the government is hiding knowledge of the existence of extraterrestrial life forms. About 54 percent believe intelligent life exists outside Earth. Sixty-four percent of the respondents said that aliens have contacted humans, half said they’ve abducted humans, and 37 percent said they have contacted the U.S. government.”
In other words, if Hilary Clinton’s administration fessed up to having clear evidence that aliens had been in contact with Earthlings, the most likely result would not be worldwide, crazy-eyed panic but instead a collective shrug, another in a long list of things the government finally admitted to, from the top-secret Project Mogul spy balloon that crashed in Roswell in 1947 to NSA spying.
If the government really is hiding UFOs, the cat’s out of the bag and most people suspect that’s the case anyway. Perhaps the next president will reveal what the government knows about aliens, but the irony is that no matter what Clinton does if elected president—no matter how much she reveals (short of compromising national security, of course)—she will not satisfy the conspiracy theorists.
If she investigates and finds that there are in fact no alien bodies or crashed saucers being studied, she will be accused of continuing the decades-long government cover-up. If, on the other hand, she declassifies all the information and opens up Area 51 to public tours, UFO buffs still wouldn’t believe a word of it, instead dismissing it as a disinformation campaign designed to hide the real truth.
Revised estimates of the size of a dwarf planet show that it’s actually the third-largest dwarf planet in the outer Solar System. It’s about two-thirds the size of Pluto, and completes a rotation once every 45 hours.
SIZE MATTERS
Sometimes astronomers make mistakes. It happens.
Case in point, a team of astronomers have learned that the size of an object in the far reaches of the outer Solar System, called 2007 OR10, was significantly underestimated—by about 250 km (155 mi).
Of course, they can be forgiven for such mistakes. First, this is how science works. Second, objects in these dim depths of the Solar System are notoriously difficult to measure. The immense distances involved are one problem, and so are the (frequently bizarre) surface compositions of these planetoids. They can often have a very low albedo, or reflectivity, which can make them seem smaller than they really are.
2007 OR10, which was discovered (unsurprisingly) in 2007 by a team scouring the outer Solar System for new members, has quite an erratic orbit, coming almost as close as Neptune but swinging as far away as its current orbit, which is twice the distance to Pluto.
Original estimates suggested the object had a diameter of 1,280 km (795 mi); but by combining data from the ESA/NASA infrared Herschel Space Observatory and the current K2 phase of the planet-hunting Kepler Space Telescope, the team was able to revise that number. They now peg the diameter to 1,535 km (955 mi), which makes 2007 OR10 the third-largest dwarf planet in the outer Solar System.
It’s about 100 km (60 mi) larger than Makemake, the next largest icy runt in that neck of the woods; and it’s about a two-thirds the size of Pluto, which has a diameter of 2,374 km (1,475 mi). The second-largest object, Eris, is only slightly smaller than Pluto, coming in at 2,326 km (1,445 mi).

It has a very dark, very ruddy surface. It’s much darker than expected, in fact, because it’s still reflecting the same low levels of light from what’s been found to be a much larger surface area. This distinguishes 2007 OR10 from most other objects of its particular species, as they’re usually brighter. Its red color, which some think might be caused by methane ices on the surface, puts it firmly in the august company of its bigger brothers, Eris and Pluto, which display a similar hue. This suggests its gravity is strong enough to retain volatile methane, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen ices.
It also has a very slow “day,” taking about 45 hours to complete one rotation.
By using the Kepler telescope to research the planetoid’s properties, the team has shown that the K2 mission can do some very important work outside of its primary mission of extrasolar planet hunting—it can tell us a little about what’s going on right here in our own neighborhood.
Meanwhile, it’s about time to give poor, overlooked 2007 OR10 a proper name. That’ll be up to its discoverers—Meg Schwamb, Mike Brown, and David Rabinowitz.
“The names of Pluto-sized bodies each tell a story about the characteristics of their respective objects. In the past, we haven’t known enough about 2007 OR10 to give it a name that would do it justice,” Schwamb observes.
“I think we’re coming to a point where we can give 2007 OR10 its rightful name,” and it’s about time.
After many decades of studying the red planet, scientists now actually admit that there is a very high possibility that an impact of a asteroid or comet altered the the Red Planet completely!
Compared to Planet Earth, Mars has many impact craters which isn’t that strange since Mars is in a very uncomfortable position in our solar System, right next to the Asteroid belt. Because of this Mars is constantly being bombarded by asteroids, unlike Earth Mars does not have a bigger moon to shield it against incoming asteroids! (the moon is kind of like earths very own Goal Keeper!).
So looking back into our home planets history we know that the Earth has been impacted in the past by large space rocks, and even some of those immense impacts have possibly changed the history of our planet too! I guess one of the best examples of this is the Chicxulub impact crater located in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico (see image below) which many leading scientists believe to have been the number one reason for the extinction of theDinosaurs.

So lets get this right people, if this happened here on Planet Earth, could something similar of happened on Mars? In fact on the red planet we can find an extremely interesting impact crater located in the Lyot region, and it is approx. 125 miles in diameter (that is one BIG crater!). The sheer area of this huge impact crater tells us just how powerful the impact must of been which could have been one of the main causes why Mars today is literally just a “desert”. A comet strike like this may very well of caused a profound disruption to Mars’ very own planetary system. A hit like this would have been an absolutely devastating planet climate-changing event.

So lets put this into perspective and the main question has to be “is it possible that long before losing its atmosphere, Mars sustained life??” Even potential civilizations that once called the red planet their “home”? If this is what happened, then where did the Martian’s go? and most importantly did they survive? Did they possibly escape before these cataclysmic events? And if this is all true then does this mean that Mars could be connected in any way to Earth? These are just some of many questions that desperately NEED to be answered.
July 20, 1976 – after a ten-month journey from Earth, Viking I reached its destination, the red planet. The images that Viking I sent back to Earth were pretty damn amazing, and some of the impressive images showed that Mars really was not that different from Earth. Many regions on Mars resemble places on Earth, like the Death Valley. But where the story about Viking I gets really interesting is after it performed several tests in search for life on the red planet. Viking I returned back some very controversial results. Dr. Gil Levin designed one of the tests that the Viking probe performed, a relatively “simple” test. He explained that Microorganisms breathe just like you or I or anything else, and then they give off carbon dioxide. What NASA did is, they took a small sample of Martian soil, placed it inside a small container and this container was monitored for a week for signs of “bubbles” inside of the tube, and after seven days, the unexpected happened. The test for life on Mars was positive by criteria accepted by NASA as “bubbles” were registered inside the Viking I container – this was/is huge news!
But here is the funny/predictable thing, whilst this test had returned positive for life, other tests with different criteria came up negative. But guess what guys!? Yep good old NASA were very cautious in this matter and opted to say: “There is no proof of life on Mars“. (shock horror!).

– Many top scientists have suggested that Mars may have had an atmosphere very much similar to Earth’s atmosphere, and it got annihilated about 65 million years ago. Some have also stated that it could of possibly been some kind of ‘made’ weapon that destroyed this planet, perhaps some kind of Nuclear Weapon like we have here on Earth! Adding to these suggestions, ideas have been put together in the recent past which tell the possibility that the civilization that once inhabited Mars, very possibly fled to Earth in search for refugee. So guys does this make us the Human Race the actual “Martians” we have desperately tried to find for many years? There are some scientists that say they’ve found powerful evidence of lost civilizations on the red planet and in fact, they believe they may have discovered a nuclear signature in the Martian atmosphere that matches Earth’s after a nuclear test like I mentioned before!? According to the scientists involved there are very large traces of Xenon-129 on Mars and the only process that we know of that produces Xenon-129 is a nuclear explosion. Is this just yet another coincidence that shows how similar Mars is to Earth? Or does this actually provide evidence that Mars was very different in the past?
Perhaps all of these images on Mars of supposed statues and ‘made’ objects are very real and evidence of the Red Planets past!

EM effects are a pretty intriguing aspect of the UFO subject and there have been plenty of very strange UFO cases where electromagnetic interference with avionic systems, motors, headlights, radios (and even weapons systems) have been reported at the same time the UFO has been witnessed.
Richard Thieme brings up the subject in the presentation and the NICAP document below, ‘Electromagnetic Effects Associated with Unidentified Flying Objects’ does a good job of cataloging cases through the 1950s and exploring the subject in general – it’s said the report was circulated to several hundred interested parties including scientists and members of Congress and concluded that ‘the evidence was sufficient to warrant a more thorough investigation of UFOs, and an attempt to learn more about the E -M phenomenon through deliberate instrumentation for that purpose’.
The purpose of this booklet is to explore this one aspect of the UFO mystery: Electromagnetic effects which occurred at the same time a UFO was seen.
NARCAP’s Richard Haines has also conducted some scientific research on aircraft EM effects in the paper below and for more in depth reading then Chapter five of John McCampbell’s book ‘Ufology’ goes into more detail about stalling of vehicle motors, dimming and extinguishing of car headlights/house lights, fading or loss of radio/television reception and malfunction of compasses and watches.

He claimed that “men in black thugs” scared off mainstream US MoD officials, of which the French officials ignored these threats, which apparently led to nasty contact from aliens.
Dr Greer then made a call to arms to paranormal enthusiasts to try and make contact with aliens to get the authorities off his back. He confirmed: “If we all do it they can’t keep tracks on us all.”

U.I.P SUMMARY – First things first us guys at U.I.P have an incredible amount of respect for Dr Greer and are hopefully lining him up for an interview in late October, live from his ranch in the states. But, interestingly Dr Greer was recently accused of actually working for the CIA by an unnamed leading counter-conspiracist.
It was written in a recent post by Alien Embryo on Unexplained-mysteries.com, who wrote:
“Steven Greer is not who he claims to be, he is working for the CIA. The CIA knows people want answers and wants this technology made public.”
“The disclosure project is to slow people down, it was created to give people a false hope for “disclosure”. If we leave “disclosure” up to the disclosure project it will never happen.”
The newspaper that was running with this breaking news story, the Express.co.uk has actually put Dr Greer’s claims to the French MoD…..And Guess what? Yep they still have not given a response, which in itself confirms A LOT in U.I.P’s eyes!
Personally I see Dr Greer as a great leading figure in the search for the Truth about Planet Earths contact with the ET Beings and if anything we do not believe that he would ever work for the Government, if anything he could be working for the Alien Beings who are keeping a watchful eye on Planet Earth – and helping him PUSH for the TRUTH!
Some people even believe that the increase in UFO sightings around the world is caused by Dr Greer!?

Cosmic Dust on Earth Reveals Clues to Ancient Atmosphere

These micrometeorites consist of iron oxide minerals that formed when dust particles of meteoritic iron metal were oxidised as they entered Earth's atmosphere, indicating that the ancient upper atmosphere was surprisingly oxygen rich.

The oldest space dust yet found on Earth suggests that the ancient atmosphere of Earth had significantly more oxygen than previously thought, a new study finds.
Although oxygen gas currently makes up about one-fifth of Earth's air, there was at least 100,000 times less oxygen in the primordial atmosphere, researchers say. Oxygen easily reacts with other molecules, which means it readily gets bound to other elements and pulled from the atmosphere.
Previous research suggests that significant levels of oxygen gas started permanently building up in the atmosphere with the Great Oxidation Event, which occurred about 2.4 billion years ago. This event was most likely caused by cyanobacteria — microbes that, like plants, photosynthesize and release oxygen. [Infographic: Earth's Atmosphere Top to Bottom]
Most evidence regarding how much oxygen there was in Earth's air in the past concerned the lower atmosphere. Until now, scientists had no way to sample oxygen levels in Earth's ancient upper atmosphere.
In a new study, scientists analyzing tiny meteorites found that the upper reaches of the early Earth's atmosphere may not have been oxygen-poor as once thought. Instead, the ancient Earth's upper atmosphere may have possessed nearly the same amount of oxygen as it does today, the researchers said.
"With this project we have opened up a new way of investigating Earth's ancient atmosphere," said study lead author Andrew Tomkins, a geoscientist at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

The researchers analyzed 60 microscopic meteorites from samples of ancient limestone collected in the Pilbara region in Western Australia. These cosmic dust particles are 2.7 billion years old, the oldest yet found.
"We weren't certain that the project was going to work," Tomkins told Live Science. "The project started out as a student research project, and it was a bit of a risk to try and find micrometeorites when few other people had tried it before. I had some backup plans, but the extra tension made for a lot of excitement when we found our first micrometeorites."
The micrometeorites ranged from two to 12 times thinner than the width of an average human hair. They are cosmic spherules — remnants of meteorites the size of sand grains that broke apart during atmospheric entry. Previous research suggested that these kinds of particles melt at altitudes of about 45 to 55 miles (75 to 90 kilometers).
The scientists analyzed the micrometeorites using electron microscopes and high-energy X-rays from the Australian Synchrotron. They found that a significant portion of the iron in these meteorites had reacted with oxygen to form iron oxide minerals, which suggests that the thin upper atmosphere in which they melted was richer in oxygen than thought.
"Once we recovered the first micrometeorites, I realized that the minerals inside them were telling us that they had been oxidized in the upper atmosphere," Tomkins said. "These were essentially the first samples of our Earth's ancient upper atmosphere." [Fallen Stars: A Gallery of Famous Meteorites]
This finding was unexpected, "because it has been firmly established that the Earth's lower atmosphere was very poor in oxygen 2.7 billion years ago," study co-author Matthew Genge, a professor in the Department of Earth Science & Engineering at Imperial College London, said in a statement. "How the upper atmosphere could contain so much oxygen before the appearance of photosynthetic organisms was a real puzzle."
What could have happened?
One possible origin of this oxygen is that sunlight broke apart water vapor in the lower atmosphere into hydrogen and oxygen — the oxygen could have risen to the upper atmosphere, while the lighter hydrogen would have escaped Earth's atmosphere into outer space. Another possibility is that sunlight broke apart sulfur dioxide gas emitted from volcanoes into sulfur and oxygen — the sulfur could have condensed to form particles that fell to Earth, leaving oxygen behind, the researchers said.
"A caution — it's important to understand that the density of the atmosphere at the very high altitudes sampled by micrometeorites is extremely thin," Tomkins said. "We are not talking about generating large amounts of oxygen here, but rather elevated proportions of oxygen relative to the other gases."
It remains uncertain how the ancient upper atmosphere could have stayed oxygen-rich while the ancient lower atmosphere remained oxygen-poor. The researchers suggest that a methane haze layer may have existed between the upper and lower atmosphere, reducing mixing between them.
"Methane is thought to have been produced by early single-celled organisms known as methanogens. These exist today as well," Tomkins said. "There has been a lot of debate as to how much methane there might have been, and when it might have first arisen. The general thought is that the methane, combined with carbon dioxide, may have created an organic haze if the conditions were right."
The next step "is to try and extract micrometeorites from rocks of a range of ages, to examine how the chemistry of Earth's upper atmosphere might have changed over very long periods of geological time," Tomkins said. "It should be possible to use micrometeorites to investigate changes in atmospheric composition across very broad periods of time."
"It should also be possible to find micrometeorites on Mars," Tomkins added. "If the rovers can find them, and somehow determine their age of atmospheric entry, they could be used to investigate changes in Mars' atmosphere."
The scientists detailed their findings in the May 12 issue of the journal Nature.

More than 50 years after weird radio echoes were detected coming from Earth's upper atmosphere, two scientists say they've pinpointed the culprit. And it's complicated.
In 1962, after the Jicamarca Radio Observatory was built near Lima, Peru, some unexplainable phenomenon was reflecting the radio waves broadcast by the observatory back to the ground to be picked up by its detectors. The mysterious cause of these echoes was sitting at an altitude of between 80 and 100 miles (130 and 160 kilometers) above sea level.
"As soon as they turned this radar on, they saw this thing," study researcher Meers Oppenheim, of the Center for Space Physics at Boston University, said, referring to the anomalous echo. "They saw all sorts of interesting phenomena that had never been seen before. Almost all of it was explained within a few years." [In Photos: Mysterious Radar Blob Puzzles Meteorologists]
Peculiar radar echoes
Though the other phenomena detected by the observatory got explanations, these radar echoes continued to baffle scientists.
To see what was happening at that altitude, researchers at the time sent rockets, equipped with antennas and particle detectors, through the region. The instruments, which were designed to detect radar waves, "saw almost nothing," Oppenheim said.
Adding more peculiarity to the puzzle, the phenomenon showed up only during daylight hours, vanishing at night. The echo would appear at dawn every day at about 100 miles (160 km) above the ground, before descending to about 80 miles (130 km) and getting stronger. Then at Noon, the echo would start to rise back again toward its starting point at 100 miles above the ground. When plotted on a graph, the echoes appeared as a necklace shape.

And in 2011, during a partial solar eclipse seen over the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory in India, the echo went silent.
"And then there was a solar flare, and it sort of went a little nuts," Oppenheim said. "There was a solar flare, and the echo got really strong."
The sun takes charge
Now, with a lot of supercomputing effort, Oppenheim and Yakov Dimant, also at the Center for Space Physics, have simulated the bizarre radar echoes to find the culprit — the sun. [Infographic: Explore Earth's Atmosphere, Top to Bottom]
Ultraviolet radiation from the sun, it seems, slams into the ionosphere (the part of Earth's upper atmosphere located between 50 and 370 miles, or 80 and 600 km, above sea level), where the radio echoes were detected, they said. Then, the radiation, in the form of photons (particles of light), strips molecules in that part of the atmosphere of their electrons, resulting in charged particles called ions — primarily, positively charged of their electrons, resulting in charged particles called ions, primarily positively charged oxygen — and a free electron (a negatively charged particle that is not attached to an atom or molecule).
That ultra-energized electron, or photoelectron, zips through the atmosphere, which, at this altitude, is much cooler than the photoelectron, Oppenheim said.
Making waves
Using a computer simulation, the scientists allowed these high-energy electrons to interact with other, less energized particles.

Because these high-energy electrons are racing through a cool, slow environment in the ionosphere, so-called kinetic plasma instabilities (turbulence, in a sense) occur. The result: The electrons start vibrating with different wavelengths.
"One population of very energetic particles moving through a population of much less energetic particles — it's like running a violin bow across the strings. The cold population will start developing resonant waves," Oppenheim explained.
"The next step is that those electron waves have to cause the ions to start forming waves too, and they do," Oppenheim said.
Though this last step isn't clearly understood, he explained that periodic waves of ions bunch up with no dominant wavelength winning out. "It's a whole set of wavelengths; it's a whole froth of wavelengths," he said.
That "froth" of wavelengths was strong enough to reflect radio waves back to the ground and to form the mysterious radar echoes.
"The reason it wasn't figured out for a long time is that it's a complicated mechanism," Oppenheim said.
As for why the rockets missed the bizarre echoes, Oppenheim pointed to the messy nature of the waves.
"Turns out, it looks like what the rockets saw is what we see with our simulation," he said. "You don't see strong coherent waves. What you see is sort of a froth of low-level waves, above the noise of thermal material," and those waves are sort of like "foam on the top of sea waves," he added.

The mysterious Giza Plateau is even more mind-boggling once you realize the ancient city of Memphis (modern-day Giza) is filled with subterranean passageways, shafts, a cavern system and chambers which hold in their walls, thousands of years worth of history together with countless artifacts. However, Egyptian authorities are not willing to reveal what is found beneath Giza to the general public, like many other discoveries made throughout the years in Egypt.
There is a lost history completely ignored by mainstream scholars when it comes to the Ancient Egyptian Civilization and the enigmatic Pyramids which according to many predates the Egyptian Civilization itself. In order to comprehend to the full extent the partial pieces of history we have been taught in school, we must understand that countless discoveries on our planet have been completely ignored by mainstream scholars.
One of those discoveries took place in Egypt, where a massive subterranean tunnel system with chambers and rooms was discovered below the surface of the Pyramid Plateau. A genuine history of what happened beneath the sands thousands of years ago is not present in mainstream teachings of our civilizations past, and reflection of that are the countless discoveries made in the last decades which clearly indicate, history as we know it is only partial.
In order to understand the enigmatic underground ‘city’ located beneath the Giza Plateau, we venture out the Fayum Oasis district located a few miles outside the Memphis Nome. It is noteworthy to mention that in the past, Lake Moeris bordered the Fayum Oasis and just at its shores was the enigmatic Labyrinth described by Herodotus as “an endless wonder to me.”
It is said that the mysterious ‘Labyrinth’ of impressive size, contained up to 1500 rooms and an equal amount of subterranean chambers which the Greek philosopher was not permitted to inspect. According to the keepers of the Labyrinth, “the passages were baffling and intricate”, created in order to keep the countless ancient texts and scrolls safe in the many underground chambers.
In fact, this ancient complex impressed Herodotus in such a way that he felt compelled to speak about the mysterious structure:
There I saw twelve palaces regularly disposed, which had communication with each other, interspersed with terraces and arranged around twelve halls. It is hard to believe they are the work of man, The walls are covered with carved figures, and each court is exquisitely built of white marble and surrounded by a colonnade. Near the corner where the labyrinth ends, there is a pyramid, two hundred and forty feet in height, with great carved figures of animals on it and an underground passage by which it can be entered. I was told very credibly that underground chambers and passages connected this pyramid with the pyramids at Memphis.
In fact, ancient Memphis (Giza) has a humongous underground system that combines a set of intricate man-made passageways and subterranean rivers and tunnels. While these were described thousands of years ago, the gigantic underground cavities were mapped since 1978 using ground penetrating radar thanks to explorations led by Dr. Jim Hurtak, who is said to have entered massive chambers that are larger than the largest cathedrals ever erected by modern man.
However, in addition to the above, he also spoke of the gigantic underground metropolis located beneath the Giza Plateau said to be at least 15,000 years old.
Interestingly, there are numerous ancient authors who supported Herodotus’ record of underground passages connecting major pyramids. It is important to mention that Iamblichus, also known as Iamblichus Chalcidensis, or Iamblichus of Apamea, a Syrian Neoplatonist philosopher recorded information about an entrance through the body of the Sphinx leading inside the Great Pyramid of Giza:
This entrance obstructed in our day by sands and rubbish, may still be traced between the forelegs of the crouched colossus. It was formerly closed by a bronze gate whose secret spring could be operated only by the Magi. It was guarded by public respect, and a sort of religious fear maintained its inviolability better than armed protection would have done. In the belly of the Sphinx were cut out galleries leading to the subterranean part of the Great Pyramid.
These galleries were so artfully crisscrossed along their course to the Pyramid that, in setting forth into the passage without a guide throughout this network, one increasingly and inevitably returned to the starting point.
Crantor (300BC) claimed that a set of underground pillars in Egypt contain written stone records of pre-history, Crantor too supported Herodotus’ writings.
However, even more,interesting is the fact that written on ancient Sumerian cylinder seals are the records of the Anunnaki and their secret abode, which was described as:
“an underground place… entered through a tunnel, its entrance hidden by sand and by what they call Huwana… his teeth as the teeth of a dragon, his face the face of a lion”.
This extremely ancient texts, fragmented into several pieces also records that “He [Huwana] is unable to move forward, nor is he able to move back” but they crept up on him from behind, and the way to “the secret abode of the Anunnaki” was no longer blocked. (source)
The Ancient Sumerian texts surprisingly provided a relatively good description of the lion-headed Sphinx at Giza, a monument that surely predates the Ancient Egyptian civilizations and was set in place to guard the Pyramids and countless chambers and tunnels located beneath Giza.
However, we find more evidence of vast underground chambers in the writings of first-century Roman historian Pliny, who documented that located beneath the mighty Sphinx there is a concealed “tomb of a ruler namedHarmakhis that contains great treasure.” Surprisingly, the Great Sphinx was once called “The Great Sphinx Harmakhis who mounted guard since the time of the Followers of Horus.”
Further proof supporting the existence of the subterranean vaults is documented by fourth-century Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus who documented the existence of passageways that lead to the interior of the Great Pyramid at Giza:
„Inscriptions which the ancients asserted were engraved on the walls of certain underground galleries and passages were constructed deep in the dark interior to preserve ancient wisdom from being lost in the flood.“
More evidence is found in a manuscript documented by Arab writerAltelemsani and preserved in the British Museum. Altelemsanidocumented the existence of an extensive square underground chamber located below ground, between the Great Pyramid and the River Nile.Altelemsani wrote there was something enormous blocking the entrance from the River Nile.
Altelemsani wrote:
“…In the days of Ahmed Ben Touloun, a party entered the Great Pyramid through the tunnel and found in a side-chamber a goblet of a glass of rare color and texture. As they were leaving, they missed one of the party and, upon returning to seek him, he came out to them naked and laughing said, “Do not follow or seek for me”, and then rushed back into the pyramid. His friends perceived that he was enchanted.
Upon learning about strange happenings under the Pyramid, Ahmed Ben Touloun expressed a desire to see the goblet of glass. During the examination, it was filled with water and weighed, then emptied and re-weighed. The historian wrote that it was “found to be of the same weight when empty as when full of water.” (source)
Interestingly during the 10th century, a writer by the name of Masoudi claimed that advanced mechanical statues were guardians of the subterranean galleries located under the Great Pyramid of Giza. His description, one thousand years ago can be compared in significance to computerized robots seen today. According to Masoudi, these robots were programmed to destroy all “except those who by their conduct were worthy of admission”.
He wrote:
“…written accounts of Wisdom and acquirements in the different arts and sciences were hidden deep, that they might remain as records for the benefit of those who could afterward comprehend them…”.
Masoudiconfessed:
“…I have seen things that one does not describe for fear of making people doubt one’s intelligence… but still I have seen them…”.
According to Herodotus, ancient Egyptian priests spoke of a long-held tradition of the creation of underground chambers by the original builders of ancient Memphis. Interestingly, these stories were confirmed when large cavities were discovered during a survey conducted at Giza in 1993.
Reports supporting the existence of vast chambers was documented by a newspaper report called “Mystery Tunnel in Sphinx“:
“Workers repairing the ailing Sphinx have discovered an ancient passage leading deep into the body of the mysterious monument. The Giza Antiquities chief, Mr. Zahi Hawass, said there was no dispute the tunnel was very old. However, what is puzzling is: who built the passage? Why? Moreover, where does it lead…? Mr. Hawass said he had no plans to remove the stones blocking the entrance. The secret tunnel burrows into the northern side of the Sphinx, about halfway between the Sphinx’s outstretched paws and its tail.” (source)
In 1935, incredible stories emerged after a decade-long clearing project took place. An article published the same year by Hamilton M. Wright described the existence of the areas under Giza. This information, like many other discoveries, are still denied by Egyptian authorities despite extensive evidence proving their existence.
The article read:
“…We have discovered a subway used by the ancient Egyptians of 5000 years ago. It passes beneath the causeway leading between the second Pyramid and the Sphinx. It provides a means of passing under the causeway from the Cheops Pyramid to the Pyramid of Chephren [Khephren]. From this subway, we have unearthed a series of shafts leading down more than 125 feet, with roomy courts and side chambers…”. (source)
The existence of the extensive underground chambers az Giza is extremely well documented, even though a few people around the world know of its existence. Media reports in the 1930’s described subterranean chambers and passageways located between the Temple of the ‘Solar-men’ located on the plateau and the temple of the Sphinx in the Giza Valley.
Located in the middle between the Great Sphinx and the Great Pyramid, four enormous vertical shafts, each approximately eight feet square, leading into inner chambers through solid limestone were alsodiscovered.
At the time of Herodotus visit, there were two large pyramids with colossal seated figures on top in the center of Lake Moeris. This is a pre-1851 engraving of one of those pyramids.
„…It is called “Campbell’s Tomb” on the Masonic and Rosicrucian plans, and “that shaft complex,” said Dr. Selim Hassan, “ended in a spacious room, in the center of which was another shaft that descended to a roomy court flanked with seven side chambers…”.
According to reports, inside of the secret rooms were huge, sealed sarcophagi of basalt and granite, 18 feet high.
In 1935, when Dr. Selim Hassan was exploring the area he wrote:
„…We are hoping to find some monuments of importance after clearing out this water. The total depth of these series of shafts is more than 40 meters or more than 125 feet… In the course of clearing the southern part of the subway, there was found a very fine head of a statue which is very expressive in every detail of the face…“. Chapel of Offerings, Enoch, and pre-historic accounts
In addition to the above, Dr. Selim Hassan also reported the discovery of three inner and outer courts and a room they called the ‘Chapel of offerings,’ cut into a massive rock outcrop found between Campbell’s Tomb and the Great Pyramid. Reports indicate that at the center of the chapel are three ornate vertical pillars positioned in a triangular-shaped layout. The pillars are extremely important points in the report since their existence is believed to have been recorded in the Bible.
It is believed that Ezra, the initiated Torah writer had knowledge of the existence of the passages and large chambers beneath Giza even before he wrote the Torah.
Interestingly, reports of ‘sophisticated moving machines’ discovered at Giza, together with a previously unknown subterranean city are found in an article written by the Sunday Express of 7 July 1935.
However, despite extensive ancient texts documenting the existence of vast tunnels, chambers and passageways underneath Giza, Egyptian Authorities have long denied the existence of these, together with a number of other incredible discoveries in Egypt.
According to reports, the now ‘inaccessible’ underground city can be accessed from inside the Sphinx (but other parts as well), with stairs cut into solid rock, leading down to the cavern system below the bedrock of the river Nile. The huge, complex, underground system below the Giza Plateau extends east, leading towards Cairo.
In an article written in 1972 the following statement was made:
“No one should pay any attention to the preposterous claims in regard to the interior of the Great Pyramid or the presumed passageways and unexcavated temples and halls beneath the sand in the Pyramid district made by those who are as associated with the so-called, secret cults or mystery societies of Egypt and the Orient.
These things exist only in the minds of those who seek to attract the seekers for mystery, and the more we deny the existence of these things, the more the public is led to suspect that we are deliberately trying to hide that which constitutes one of the great secrets of Egypt. It is better for us to ignore all of these claims than merely deny them. All of our excavations in the territory of the Pyramid have failed to reveal any underground passageways or halls, temples, grottos , or anything of the kind except the one temple adjoining the Sphinx.” (source)

The British Government is in the process of declassifying and releasing its entire archive of UFO files. Nick Pope worked on these files, wrote many of the documents in them, and – through his hundreds of media interviews – has been the public face of the release process. The following Q&A with Nick Pope is drawn from previous interviews. It gives an overview of the release of the files and is also designed to be a quotable resource for journalists covering the story (see especially the quotes at the end).
How much material has been released?
209 files and around 52,000 pages of documentation have been released so far. This is in addition to a number of UFO files that had already been released under the old Public Record Act, the best-known provision of which was the so-called 30-year rule, which said files could be considered for public release 30 years after the date of the most recent document contained in them.
Why were these files released?
There were three reasons. Firstly, the French Government released their UFO files in 2007, setting a precedent that would have been difficult for us to ignore. Secondly, the MoD hoped this would generate good PR about the Department’s commitment to open government and freedom of information, while helping to dispel rumours of a cover-up. But the third and biggest reason was that the MoD devised this as a means of dealing with the huge number of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests the Department was getting on UFOs. In 2005, 2006 and 2007, there were many months when the MoD got more FOIA requests on UFOs than on any other subject. The workload involved in responding to them on a case-by-case basis was huge. But once the decision had been made (in 2007) to release the files proactively, all future FOIA requests could be dealt with simply by saying that the Department was in the process of releasing the material. In this way, new FOIA requests would not require a substantive answer, because “information intended for future release” is one of a number of FOIA exemptions. Similarly, once all the files have been released, pretty much all FOIA requests on UFOs can be dealt with by a statement saying that all information held on the subject is available at the National Archives.
How exactly did the release take place?
Firstly, all of the material had to be scanned-in, so it was available electronically. The MoD then had to redact the files. That is, they went through them word by word and blacked out anything still classified, or anything covered by any of the other exemptions to the Freedom of Information Act. Then, the unclassified/declassified files were transferred to the National Archives. This was a slow and time-consuming process, so the files were released in separate batches. There have been ten batches released to date. The first batch was made public in May 2008, with successive batches following every 6 months or so. The most recent batch (the tenth) was released in June 2013. The remaining 18 files are likely to be made public later in 2015, or in 2016, either in a single, final batch, or possibly in two batches.

I’ve seen one or two ufologists claim they were responsible for the file release. Is there any truth in such boasts?
No. Such claims are either dishonest or incredibly naïve. Hundreds of people made UFO-related FOIA requests. Writing in 2006, on the MoD’s website, the Under Secretary of State for Defence, Tom Watson said this: “There is a real and enduring interest in Unidentified Flying Objects. By far the most popular topic of FOI requests has been UFOs, followed by recruitment enquiries, enquiries from staff, and historical events such as World War Two, the Falklands conflict and the Balkans. Recent freedom of information releases on UFOs have attracted media interest from as far away as Japan”. This was the main factor that led the MoD to decide to transfer its UFO files to the National Archives, so it's pretty insulting to the hundreds of other members of the public, journalists and ufologists who lobbied MoD on this issue and made FOI requests, if any individual ufologists try to take credit for this.
So what’s actually in the files that have been released?
Let me start by saying what’s not in the files: there’s no ‘spaceship in a hangar’ smoking gun that’s going to prove we’re being visited by extraterrestrials. If we have such a thing, I’m afraid they didn’t tell me! Now, as to what’s in the files, it’s a mixture. Firstly, there are policy documents, setting out how those of us charged with researching and investigating UFOs viewed the phenomenon. These papers set out the MoD’s strategy on the issue, so to speak. Secondly, there are the sighting reports themselves. This category is a mixed bag, because obviously the vast majority of sightings turn out to be misidentifications, so people have to wade through a lot of bland one or two-page reports of what are obviously aircraft lights or Chinese lanterns, before they get to the better material – it’s a classic example of the old saying that “the best place to hide a book is in a library”! To add to the frustration, the MoD’s investigations didn’t often generate the paper trail researchers would like. Thirdly, there are the public correspondence files. Fourthly, there are files showing how the subject was handled when raised in Parliament.
If there’s no ‘smoking gun’, what do the files show, taken collectively?
What’s readily apparent from a detailed study of all this is that the MoD was telling Parliament, the media and the public that the UFO phenomenon was of “no defence significance” and of limited interest to the MoD. However, the files show that behind the scenes, the subject was obviously taken more seriously than we let on, with many of the cases self-evidently being of great defence significance – e.g. when UFOs were seen in close proximity to military bases, were encountered by RAF pilots, or were tracked on radar by fighter controllers or air traffic controllers. Those of us working on this subject often found ourselves having to employ an Orwellian ‘doublethink’ in our handling of this issue.
Do the files cover other mysteries too?
The UFO files inevitably include some alien contact/alien abduction accounts, as well as some material on other mysteries that some people believe are linked to the UFO phenomenon, such as crop circles and animal mutilations. And occasionally – mainly because there was nowhere else in government to send such material – the UFO project received reports of ghosts seen at military bases, and approaches from psychics, offering to undertake ‘remote viewing’ for the MoD. The last batch of files that was released even contained some papers relating to interest in anti-gravity and gravity modification research expressed by MoD scientists. I wasn’t joking when I referred to MoD’s UFO project as being “the real-life X-Files”.
What has your personal involvement been with the release of these files?
Having worked on MoD’s UFO project, staff at the National Archives asked me to select some cases that could be highlighted to the media in the run-up to the release. The media could run whatever stories they liked, of course, but inevitably, most times they would pick the ones I suggested. I was asked to ensure that there were cases from all parts of the UK, so as to appeal to the regional press, and to ensure that the material selected catered to a wide cross-section of viewpoints, i.e. picking out some cases that were easy to explain, some that were genuine mysteries, some disturbing cases (e.g. near-misses between UFOs and commercial aircraft) and some of the more amusing cases in the files, such as the man who claimed that his car, tent and pet dog had been abducted by aliens. I was also asked to record a promotional video for the National Archives, drawing attention to the release and talking about it in positive terms. But my biggest involvement in all this was to do literally hundreds of TV, radio, newspaper and magazine interviews on the story (and write some of the features myself) and thus become the public face of the file release project. It was certainly a success and I appeared on a huge range of news programmes, chat shows and radio programmes, including Newsnight, BBC News, ITV News, CNN News, Larry King Live, Good Morning America, Sky News, This Morning, GMTV and Radio 4’s Today programme, to name but a few.
Nick Pope announces the release of another batch of government UFO files, in an interview that was syndicated to the world's media
What was it like for you on the actual days the files were released?
It was manic! As regard to the practicalities of a “file release day”, two days beforehand, an embargoed press release would be sent out to the world’s media. On a couple of occasions the embargo was broken, but we managed (just) to get the genie back into the bottle. On many occasions, I would be asked to write a feature article for a newspaper. I wrote several for The Sun, but also wrote for The Times, The Guardian and the Daily Mirror. Once the embargoed press release was sent out, I would receive requests for short, punchy comments that could be used in newspaper articles (that often ran in parallel to the features I wrote myself), as well as numerous TV and radio interview bids. I’d try to accept as many of these bids as possible, but inevitably, if I was at the BBC studios in White City for a live TV interview at 7am, I wasn’t going to be able to get to the Sky News studios in West London by 7.15am. I partly got around this by trying to stagger things, so that I would do, say, a BBC news interview at 6am, an ITV chat show at 7am and a Sky News feature at 8am. But inevitably, things got hectic and stressful, especially as the BBC, ITV and Sky studios are in different parts of London, and the traffic can be a nightmare. I’m pleased to say that I never once missed an interview, but there were certainly some very close calls. Things got even more hectic as new requests came in all the time, and there were some surreal moments, such as doing a down-the-line interview with a BBC radio station on my mobile phone, while sitting in the back of a courtesy car taking me to my next TV interview. Another way we got around these difficulties was by pre-recording things where possible. Before most file release days I would record a string of ‘to camera’ remarks about the files at the studios of ITN Productions, in Holborn. They would then produce 2 or 3 different news packages, which any media outlets could use. This was particularly useful for US networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox. If people Google “Nick Pope” & “ITN” they can watch a few of these. It became a tradition that after my final interview, usually in the late evening, the courtesy car would drop me off at my local sports bar for a well-earned cold beer.

What was your favourite interview or news feature?
I have several. Newsround and Blue Peter were great fun to do, as was The Alan Titchmarsh Show. One of the most unusual stunts involved my writing a science fiction story based on the files, for the BBC World Service show The World Today. I then had to judge the entries from listeners, who were invited to email in suggestions for continuing the story. I also enjoyed giving a talk about the file release at the Royal Albert Hall, in October 2010.
What’s your favourite story from the files?
It was good to see more papers released on ‘classic cases’ such as the Rendlesham Forest incident and the Cosford incident, though it was unfortunate that some Defence Intelligence Staff files containing documents on Rendlesham had been destroyed. There were also some interesting (and highly disturbing) reports of near-misses between UFOs and commercial aircraft. However, if readers will forgive me for highlighting a somewhat light-hearted story, I rather like the case of the man who placed a 100-1 bet that alien life would be officially confirmed by the Millennium, and then tried to enlist the help of the MoD to support his case against the bookmakers. Sadly, the man lost his bet.
How did you feel, seeing all this material again after so many years?
The whole file release project has been something of a ‘blast from the past’ for me, seeing material that I worked on (or wrote), when I never thought I’d see it again. Bear in mind that when I was working on MoD’s UFO project, the UK didn’t have a Freedom of Information Act, so the assumption was that none of the files I was working on would even be considered for public release until 30 years after a file was closed. So, there were mixed emotions really. I had some feelings of nostalgia, obviously, but also some feelings of pride at a job well done, and some regrets for the inevitable mistakes and missed opportunities.
Have all the MoD’s UFO files been released?
No. Firstly, many UFO files from the 1950s and 1960s were destroyed many years ago, before any decisions were made to retain files on this subject, or release them. Secondly, there are a number of exemptions to the Freedom of Information Act, which can exclude from public release material covering such areas as “defence”, “national security” and “intelligence”. Many exemptions in the UFO files are little more than deleting the names and addresses of witnesses, to protect their privacy, but there are cases where other exemptions have been used. The final report of an intelligence study into UFOs, codenamed Project Condign, is a good example of a publicly-released UFO document where a small (but significant) amount of information has been blacked out. Thirdly, and by the MoD's own admission, Defence Intelligence Staff files on the Rendlesham Forest incident were "inadvertently destroyed". Similarly, the MoD stated that a ship’s log for HMS Manchester, that might have contained details of a UFO seen during a NATO exercise, was lost after having been blown overboard by a “freak gust of wind”. Gun camera footage of UFOs taken by RAF jets in the Sixties has apparently “not survived”, while a spectacular UFO photograph that had been on my office wall for many years was "mislaid" – along with the negatives. I make no accusations of foul play here, but I can certainly understand the anger and frustration that has been expressed by some people in the UFO community and the conspiracy theory community. And finally, as I’ve mentioned earlier, despite the MoD and the National Archives stating to the media that the last of the files had been released in June 2013, there are, in fact, a further 18 files that have yet to be passed from the MoD to the National Archives.

What has been the reaction of the UFO community to the release of these files?
To be honest, the reaction was a little disappointing. True believers tended to dismiss the release as disinformation: "All the good stuff's been held back" was a frequent comment. The revelations concerning material that has been destroyed or lost didn't help, while my central role in publicizing the release project further fueled the fire: "He's still on the payroll" is a phrase that I often heard from true believers and conspiracy theorists, when they saw me in the media, discussing these files. The reaction from die-hard debunkers was equally disappointing. There was a sneering tendency to focus on the odd case which clearly involved a hoax or an eccentric, while ignoring or glossing over the sightings where the witnesses were police officers, pilots or military personnel, where UFOs were tracked on radar, or where a photo or video was analysed by MoD's technical wizards, with no evidence of fakery being found. The reasons for these reactions, of course, had to do with belief. Just as fascist and communist regimes are actually very similar, despite the apparent distance implied by phrases like “left-wing” and “right-wing”, so true believers and die-hard debunkers are actually chiseled from the same block, united by their dogma and their conclusion-led approach to the subject. The MoD files played to this, because they told neither group what they wanted to hear. True believers wanted definitive proof of extraterrestrial visitation and a government cover-up, while die-hard debunkers wanted confirmation that all sightings could be explained in terms of misidentifications, hoaxes, delusions, or people who’d had too much drink or drugs. But the files didn’t tell them this - they reflected a more subtle and complex truth about UFOs, i.e. that MoD isn’t covering up proof of extraterrestrial visitation, but that some UFO sightings appeared to defy conventional explanation, with even those of us in government not being aware of the true nature of the phenomenon.
So what happens now? Where do we go from here?
There was massive media and public interest on each of the days that the files were released, and for maybe a day or two afterwards, but memories fade quickly. There’s an old saying in the UK media that today’s newspaper is tomorrow’s fish and chip paper. Once the dust has settled, the UFO community turns its attention elsewhere. More sightings take place, new stories surface and things move on. MoD’s UFO files are a valuable resource, but in time they will doubtless become little more relevant to the ufological debate as, say, the Project Blue Book archive. In the final analysis, little will change. True believers and die-hard debunkers will occasionally cherry-pick cases, information and quotes that fit their existing worldview – a classic case of what cognitive science calls “confirmation bias”. Ultimately though, true believers will naïvely continue to believe every tall tale they hear, while die-hard debunkers will dishonestly ignore good data, or alter the facts of a case so as to shoehorn it into their pre-conceived views. The irony is that UFO phenomenon itself will endure, as it always has done, oblivious to the views of either faction.
Do you have any final comments to make on the release of these files?
Perhaps I can finish by restating two points I made when the June 2013 file release took place, as they were quoted in most of the media articles about this story. I think they encapsulate things quite nicely:
"I hope people have as much fun reading these real-life X-Files as I had working on them. These documents don't resolve the UFO mystery but they certainly show how the phenomenon was just as intriguing to the government as it is to the public."
“These are the real-life X-Files. Most UFO sightings had conventional explanations, but a small percentage remained unexplained. These included cases where UFOs were seen by police officers, chased by pilots and tracked on radar. Whatever you think about UFOs, the release of these files shines a light on one of the most intriguing subjects ever studied by the British Government”.

Scientists are sure how it works since the so-called EmDrive defies all known laws of physics
The ‘impossible’ fuel-free engine called EmDrive could transport astronauts to Mars in just 10 weeks has been proven to work, even though no one known how or why it works. The revolutionary engine creates thrust by bouncing microwaves in a closed chamber and is powered only by solar energy.
While researchers have pointed out the engine is an impossible concept since it defies all known laws of physics, the engine has turned out to be a feasible option for future spacecraft.
Now, scientists have come up with a theory that could explain how it can actually work. In the next coming months, the engine will undergo peer review as scientists hope it can become a reality shortly.
The idea, however, isn’t new. The concept was proposed for the first time 16 years go when researcher Roger Shawyer came up with the incredible idea. Since 2000, four independent research facilities including one belonging to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration have recreated the drive and even though it creates thrust, no one has been able to explain how. The EmDrive converts electrical energy into thrust without the necessity for rocket fuel. Classical physics suggest that this engine should not work since it appears to violate the law of conservation of momentum.
According to the law, the momentum of a system is constant if there are no external forces acting on the system –because of this, propellant is used in traditional rockets.
However, Dr. Mike McCulloch of Plymouth University firmly believes he might have figured out the impossible drive, and his explanation is based on a new theory of inertia, describing the resistance of massive objects to changes in motion and acceleration.

The idea as to why inertia exists at all has puzzled researchers for centuries.
Dr. McCulloch proposes that inertia can be explained from an effect predicted by Einstein’s theory of general relativity called ‘Unruh radiation.’ This effect states that if there is an acceleration in a vacuum, empty space will contain gas particles at a temperature which is proportional to that of the acceleration, meaning that that universe basically heats up objects as the accelerate.
Dr. McCulloch suggests that inertia can be defined as the pressure exerted by the Unruh radiation on an accelerating body. Size matters, this is why when accelerations involved are smaller, like the case of the EmDrive, the wavelength of Unruh radiation gets larger. At extremely low accelerations, wavelengths become simply put, too large to fit into the observable universe. Researchers suggest that as a result, inertia may only take on whole-wavelength units over time, causing it to become ‘quantized.’
Researchers have discovered that at extremely low accelerations, inertia jumps unexpectedly in value, an effect already observed by scientists previously when spacecraft perform a flyby of Earth, causing them to move much faster that what scientists calculated they should.
However, we could be looking at the same thing in the EmDrive by reducing the size of allowed wavelengths of Unruh radiation.

According to Dr. McCulloch, since photons have an inertial mass, they experience inertia when they perfect. However, since due to the EmDrive truncated cone, the Unruh radiation in tiny.
According to a report by MIT, the cone allows Unruh radiation of a certain size at the large end but only a smaller wavelength at the other end. The inertia of photons inside the cavity changes as these bounce back and forth. In order to conserve momentum, they are forced to generate thrust.
McCulloch says there is some evidence that exactly this happens. ‘This thrust reversal may have been seen in recent Nasa experiments,’ he says.
The next step is to test out the EmDrive on a larger scale, and if it works, it could carry both passengers and equipment to the moon in just four hours, or take them to the red planet in just ten weeks. The EmDrive will be a huge thing if it works on a larger scale since it would make it possible for humans to travel outside our solar system. Fro example, a trip to Alpha Centauri would take tens of thousands of years with our current technology, however, using the EmDrive engine, a trip to Alpha Centauri would take just 100 years.

Researchers have revealed what actually lies under the western parts of the icy continent of Antarctica.
There is a hidden world under Antarctica, in a new study, researchers have shown giant ‘wetlands’ 800 metres beneath the Ice in western Antarctica. Thanks to the Whillans Ice Stream Subglacial Access Research Drilling (WISSARD) project financed by the National Science Foundation (NSF) researchers are one step closer to discovering exactly what lies beneath the thick ice sheets covering most parts of the icy continent.
Reports indicate that Lake Whillans — first discovered in 2007, covering a staggering area of 20sq miles— which lies beneath 800 meters of ice in Western Antarctica is eerily similar to a ‘wetland.’
Researchers hope that further studies will allow them to understand how sea levels rise, and how ice behaves in response to global warming.
“It is amazing to think that we did not know that this lake even existed until a decade ago.,’ said Helen Amanda Fricker of Scripps, who initially discovered Subglacial Lake Whillans in 2007 from satellite data.
‘It is exciting to see such a rich dataset from the lake, and these new data are helping us understand how lakes function as part of the ice-sheet system.”
Researchers now know that Subglacial Lake Shillans is fed by ice ad contains small amounts of seawater from ancient marine sediments which can be found on the seabed of the lake. The water of the lake periodically drains to the ocean through some channels connecting the lake, however, with insufficient energy to carry much sediment.
The new data will allow researcher to better comprehend the extensive biogeochemistry and mechanics of Lake Whillans, but will also help them improve current models of how Antarctic subglacial lake systems interact with the ice located on the surface and the sediments located below it
Three separate papers analyzed the studies obtained in January of 2013, when the WISSARD project managed to successfully drill through the ice sheet reaching Subglacial Lake Whillan, retrieving water and sediment samples from a body of water that had remained in isolation from direct contact with Earths Atmosphere for thousands of years.
Two of the most interesting papers were those published in Geology and the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters.
According to lead author Alexander Michaud, of Montana State University, they used data taken from a 38-centimeter (15-inch) long core of lake sediment to characterize the water chemistry of the subglacial lake and its sediments. They discovered that lake water primarily originates from melting at the base of the ice sheet covering the subglacial lake and that there was a minor contribution from seawater, trapped in the sediments under the ice during the last interglacial period, a time when the Antarctic ice sheet eventually retreated.
Scientists have found that the ancient, isolated reservoir of ocean water has the ability to affect the biogeochemistry of this lake system.
The second paper published in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters, lead author Timothy Hodson of Northern Illinois University and his colleagues looked at core sediments taken fro the lake in hopes of discovering more about the relationship of the ice sheet, subglacial hydrology, and underlying sediments. Their discoveries show that while numerous floods pass through the lake every once in a while, the flow of the floods lacks energy in order to erode extensive drainage channels.
Researchers concluded that that the environment beneath the Icy continent is very similar to a wetland within the coastal plain on other parts of the planet.
What we have to understand is that around 170 million years ago, Antarctica was part of the supercontinent called Gondwana. Around 25 million years ago, Antarctica as we know it, gradually broke apart from Gondwana.
According to research, Antarctica was not always cold, dry, and covered in ice sheets. Au contraire, during its long history, Antarctica was located farther north and experienced a tropical or temperate climate, meaning that it was covered in forests, and inhabited by various ancient life forms.
