Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

The US investor Christopher Mellon worked 20 years for the federal government and according to him there are plenty of well-documented UFO sightings to establish a scientific research. There are enough data, reports by credible witnesses, videos made by trained soldiers and police officers and radar images. Christopher Mellon has now for the first time openly expressed about the information the government has about UFOs. There were some incidents involving UFOs when Mellon worked for the government. A Navy pilot phoned him one day to say that a UFO circling a fighter. The Navy did as far as he knew no further investigation.
In addition, the radar captured four or five bright UFOs in the evening sky. Everyone was puzzled, says Mellon. No government employee showed some interest, even after the images were shown during the TV program Nightline. “It was the complete lack of scientific curiosity because of political correctness,” he said highly frustrated. Mr. Mellon was particularly impressed by the UFO sighting in November 1989 in Belgium, when 13 policemen and hundreds of other witnesses saw two triangular craft above the land. The Belgian Air Force launched an investigation, worked with a group of scientists and consulted with the US and NATO countries, but could give no clear explanation.
And on March 30, 1993 more than 100 witnesses, including policemen and soldiers saw a triangular craft above England. The object was able to shoot away from standstill. The British Ministry of Defense concluded that “an unidentified object (or objects) whose origin was unknown was operating over the UK.” Mellon stresses that these objects were not owned by the US Department of Defense. He adds that the US military does not test new vessels over densely populated areas. Furthermore, he noted that the military is generally unwilling to investigate UFO reports, even if they come from military pilots or senior officials, such as former governor of Arizona Fyfe Symington.
About Hillary Clinton’s promises to declassify UFO files, Mellon does not think Hillary Clinton will gain access to secret government programs on UFOs, if she becomes president. “I remember instances where employees of the White House could not get access to secret programs of the Ministry of Defense. People like Clinton years may hold high positions without ever accessing secret programs of the Ministry, which mostly deal with new weapons. ”
If Clinton wants to find out the UFO topic to the bottom, the best she can do is reaching out to NORAD, the military organization that oversees the US airspace, and let them do the research.

Former Senator Barry Goldwater had made it known to the public his fascination about the UFO issue throughout his life and career. His notable comments and observations on the topic involved several attempts to dig deeply on the rumors of a UFO secretly held at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton in Ohio. The secret location then eventually called the Hangar 18 or the Blue Room.
Goldwater wrote UFO researcher Shlomo Arnon telling that the UFO subject has interested him for many years. He had also made known about his effort to determine what was at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, but he was denied his request to know the information about it.
Larry King Live heavily featured the subject of UFOs in more than a few occasions. In 1994, the show guested no other than Goldwater himself. During the interview, Goldwater told King that one could find out what the Air Force and the government knew about UFOs at Wright-Patterson.
Goldwater said that he called General Curtis LeMay and stated that he (Goldwater) knew about a room at Wright-Patterson where they put all secret stuff and asked the General if he could go in. However, the General reportedly got mad at him and told him never to ask the same question again.
Technologically advanced aliens were apparently beating NASA to the moon as UFO hunters claim to have discovered what they considered indisputable evidence of extraterrestrials. Recently, one UFO hunter found and shared an old NASA image from the Apollo 8 mission in 1968.
The still image apparently shows a bizarre triangle UFO parked on the Moon’s surface. It happened to be the last of a sequence of black and white images taken using a 70 mm camera on December 1968 mission.
The team claimed to have secured the image from an unnamed source. However, identical image can be viewed on the website of Lunar and Planetary Institute, a NASA affiliate.
The object appears to cast a shadow on the surface of the Moon, seemingly confirms that it is a solid three-dimensional thing.
The UFO hunters suggest the image proves that members of Apollo 8 crew are not the first to make it to the moon.
Glockner explained that the image they obtained was basically the last in the film magazine shot during the Apollo 8 lunar mission. He said the photo showed something massive either over or on the moon.
Glockner reportedly went back to the Apollo Image Atlas, examined all previous frames, and found nothing ordinary on them except in frame 2908, which seemed to show a massive triangular-shaped object on or over the lunar surface.
Skeptics suggested that it might have been a glitch or image artifact resulting from pixelation errors. However, Glockner pointed out that no such thing as pixelation issue in pictures taken with film as it can only happen in digital images.
Another suggestion from skeptics was that it could have been a speck on the lens or perhaps damage to the film frame.

A boy named Boris Kipriyanovich, or Boriska, lives in the town of Zhirinovsk of Russia’s Volgograd region. He was born on January 11, 1996. Since he was 4 he used to visit a well-known anomalous zone, commonly referred to as Medvedetskaya Gryada – a mountain near the town. It seems that the boy needed to visit the zone regularly to fulfill his needs in energy.
Boriska’s parents, nice, educated and hospitable people, are worried about their son’s fascinating talents. They do not know how others will perceive Boriska when he grows up. The say that they would be happy to consult an expert to know how to raise their wunderkind.
Being a doctor, his mother could not help but notice that the baby boy could hold his head already in 15 days after his birth. He uttered the first word ‘baba’ when he was 4 months old and started to pronounce simple words soon afterwards. At one year and a half he had no difficulties in reading newspaper headlines. At age of two years he started drawing and leaned how to paint six months later. When he turned two, he started going to a local kindergarten. Tutors immediately noticed the unusual boy, his uncommon quickwittedness, language skills and unique memory.
However, his parents witnessed that Boriska acquired knowledge not only from the outer world, but through mysterious channels as well. They saw him reading unknown information from somewhere.
“No one has ever taught him,” Boriska’s mother said. “Sometimes he would sit in a lotus position and start telling us detailed facts about Mars, planetary systems and other civilizations, which really puzzled us,” the woman said.
How may a little boy know such things? Space became the permanent theme of his stories when the boy turned two years old. Once he said that he used to live on Mars himself. He says that the planet is inhabited now too, although it lost its atmosphere after a mammoth catastrophe. The Martians live in underground cities, Boriska says.
The boy also says that, he used to fly to Earth for research purposes when he was a Martian. Moreover, he piloted a spaceship himself. It took place in the time of the Lemurian civilization. He speaks about the fall of Lemuria as if it occurred yesterday. He says that Lemurians died because they ceased to develop themselves spiritually and broke the unity of their planet.
When his mother brought him a book entitled “Whom We Are Originated From” by Ernest Muldashev, he got very excited about it. He spent a long time looking through the sketches of Lemurians, pictures of Tibetan pagodas, and then he told his parents of Lemurians and their culture for several hours non-stop. As he was talking, his mother noticed that Lemurians lived 70,000 years ago and they were nine meters tall… “How can you remember all this?” the woman asked her son. “Yes, I remember and nobody has told me that, I saw it,” Boriska replied.
In Muldashev’s second book “In Search of the City of Gods” he looked through pictures for a long time and recollected a lot about pyramids and shrines. Then he claimed that people would not find ancient knowledge under the Great Pyramid of Cheops. The knowledge will be found under another pyramid, which has not been discovered yet. “The human life will change when the Sphinx is opened, it has an opening mechanism somewhere behind the ear, I do not remember exactly,” he said.
Boriska is one of so-called indigo children. They start to appear on Earth as a token of the forthcoming grand transformation of the planet.
“No, I have no fear of death, for we live eternally. There was a catastrophe on Mars where I lived. People like us still live there. There was a nuclear war between them. Everything burnt down. Only some of them survived. They built shelters and created new weapons. All materials changed. Martians mostly breathe carbon dioxide. If they flew to our planet now, they would have to spend all the time standing next to pipes and breathing in fumes,” Boriska said.
“If you are from Mars, do you need carbon dioxide?”
“If I am in this body, I breathe oxygen. But you know, it causes aging.”
Specialists asked the boy why man-made spacecraft often crash as they approach Mars. “Martians transmit special signals to destroy stations containing harmful radiation,” Boriska replied.
The boy has deep knowledge of space and its dimensions. He is also aware of the structure of interplanetary UFOs. He talks about that like an expert, draws UFOs on slates and explains the way they work. Here is one of his stories: “It has six layers. The upper layer of solid metal accounts for 25 percent, the second layer of rubber – 30 percent, the third layer of metal – 30 percent, and the last layer with magnetic properties – 4 percent. If we give energy to the magnetic layer, spaceships will be able to fly across the Universe.”
Boriska has a lot of difficulties with school. After an interview he was taken to the second grade, but soon they tried to get rid of him. He constantly interrupts teachers and says that they are wrong… now the boy has classes with a private tutor.

A diver has discovered what appears to be an ancient sunken city off Mafia Island in Tanzania. Diver Alan Sutton, from Seaunseen, had originally been looking for the remains of an old fort rumoured to have been washed away to sea, but instead he came across the remains of a wall stretching almost 4km.
"It was jaw dropping," he told IBTimes UK. "It's difficult to explain what it's like to find something like that. I wasn't expecting anything that large, I was expecting an old Portuguese fort and then found something much larger."
The discovery is detailed in a blog post by Sutton, with images showing remnants of the wall. Mafia Island is a small sand island. After flying over in a helicopter, he noticed an "unusually shaped formation in the water". The spot the formation is located in is remote and difficult to access. The location is particularly noted for its murky waters: "Because of the tidal movements and relatively shallow depth, visibility in the area is not good. This is almost certainly why the structures have not been spotted before," he wrote.

However, Sutton and a colleague eventually managed to visit on a low spring tide armed with boats and diving equipment. They were able to photograph and examine areas normally submerged, as well as diving down to see other areas still underwater.
They found a series of what looked like foundations circling a large area. Large oblong blocks up to 5m by 5m stretched along the foundation. The northern and southern foundations run around 3.7km in length – although they think more could be lying undiscovered, covered by sand. It was around 1km at the widest point, while the foundations were up to 10 to 20 metres in depth.
Sutton said the blocks resembled sandstone, but on closer inspection he thinks they are probably made from "some type of cement". "Some of the blocks also have small perfectly square holes in them as well as oblong holes in them near the edges. There are no sandstone deposits known in the area. The logistics of transporting the blocks to the area would have been formidable," he wrote.

As the site is yet to be visited by scientists or archaeologists, its age is not known. However, Sutton points out coral growth near blocks would indicate they have been underwater for at least 550 years. "The site is very large, certainly the size of a city and is definitely man-made and very old," he wrote. "It seems very old and to have been extremely well-constructed, in a fashion unlike the architecture of other ruins in Tanzania and doubtless the site will keep archaeologists busy for many years. Without a large amount of research it is impossible to say exactly what the site is. It however appears to be a very old harbour city."
Why it sank beneath the sea is not known, although a number of possibilities are highlighted. This includes sea level rise, erosion and seismic activity. Sutton has reported the find to Mafia Island authorities and told IBTimes UK he will be visiting the site with archaeologist Felix Chami, from the University of Dar es Salaam later this month.
He has seen pictures taken by Sutton and said it was highly unusual - "enough to want to see for himself", Sutton said. "I suppose there will be lots of things he will look for. I saw a lot of square holes in the blocks which apparently is an ancient construction technique ... he's saying it's very old."

Een duiker heeft voor de kust van Tanzania een verzonken stad ontdekt. Alan Sutton was in de buurt van het eiland Mafia op zoek naar een oud fort, toen hij plotseling op de resten van een vier kilometer lange muur stuitte.
“Mijn mond viel open van verbazing,” vertelde Sutton aan IBTimes UK. “Ik had nooit verwacht dat het zo groot zou zijn. Ik verwachtte een oud Portugees fort, maar vond iets veel groters.”
De duiker heeft op zijn blog uitvoerig over zijn ontdekking geschreven. Toen hij per helikopter over het eiland vloog zag hij een vreemd gevormde formatie in het water. Samen met een collega wist hij bepaalde gebieden te fotograferen en te verkennen die normaal gesproken onder water liggen.
Cement
Het tweetal vond onder meer funderingen rond een groot gebied. Langs de fundering lagen grote langwerpige blokken van vijf bij vijf meter. De noordelijke en zuidelijke funderingen zijn 3,7 kilometer lang, hoewel er waarschijnlijk nog veel meer verborgen ligt onder het zand.
Sutton zei dat de blokken waarschijnlijk zijn gemaakt van een soort cement. Sommige blokken zijn voorzien van kleine gaten langs de rand. Omdat de vindplaats nog niet is bezocht door wetenschappers of archeologen, is er nog niets bekend over de ouderdom.
Hoogst ongewone vondst
De resten zijn zeker door mensen gemaakt en zeer oud, aldus Sutton. Ook lijken ze in niets op andere ruïnes die in Tanzania zijn gevonden. “Deze vindplaats zal archeologen ongetwijfeld vele jaren bezighouden,” zei hij, toevoegende dat het waarschijnlijk gaat om een zeer oude havenstad.
Sutton heeft de vondst gemeld bij de autoriteiten en zal de plek later deze maand bezoeken met archeoloog Felix Chami van de Universiteit van Dar es Salaam. Chami heeft foto’s van de plek gezien en zei dat het gaat om een hoogst ongewone vondst.

Astronomen beweren dat de planetoïde 2007 OR10 groter is dan eerder berekend en eigenlijk de titel ‘dwergplaneet’ verdient. Het object – dat in de wandelgangen ‘Sneeuwwitje’ wordt genoemd – heeft een diameter van 1.535 kilometer en dat is ruim honderd kilometer groter dan dwergplaneet Makemake.
Nieuwe metingen van de Herschel-telescoop en de Kepler-ruimtetelescoop wijzen uit dat 2007 OR10 forser is dan verwacht. Eerder dachten wetenschappers dat de diameter van het transneptunisch object zo’n 1.200 kilometer was.
Vanwaar deze vergissing? Kort na de ontdekking in 2007 gingen astronomen ervan uit dat 2007 OR10 een oppervlak zo wit als sneeuw had. Aangezien het object als zevende dwerg is ontdekt, leek ‘Sneeuwwitje’ een goede tijdelijke naam voor dit hemellichaam.
HEEL VER WEG
2007 OR10 is niet zo makkelijk te bezoeken. Tijdens het aphelium in 2130 is de afstand tussen deze planetoïde en de zon ruim honderd astronomische eenheden (oftewel: honderd keer de gemiddelde afstand tussen de aarde en de zon). Dat komt overeen met zo’n vijftien miljard kilometer. Momenteel is het object iets minder ver verwijderd van de zon, namelijk 88 AE. Dit maakt 2007 OR10 één van de verste objecten in het zonnestelsel.
Door het gereflecteerde zonlicht te vergelijken met de gereflecteerde infrarode straling, weten astronomen nu beter hoe groot 2007 OR10 is. Wat blijkt: het oppervlak is veel roder en donkerder dan verwacht. Geen Sneeuwwitje dus. Mogelijk is er een grote hoeveelheid bevroren methaan, stikstof en kooldioxide te vinden op het oppervlak van 2007 OR10.
Verder valt op dat een dag op 2007 OR10 zo’n 44,8 uur duurt. Dat is de tijd die het object nodig heeft om eenmaal rond de as te draaien. Ook die langzame rotatiesnelheid draagt bij aan een hogere inschatting van de grootte van 2007 OR10.
Alleen de dwergplaneten Pluto (2374 kilometer) en Eris (2326 kilometer) zijn groter dan 2007 OR10. Toch is de derde plek die ‘Sneeuwwitje’ momenteel bezit nog geen vast gegeven. “Ik ben nog een beetje skeptisch over de exacte grootte van het object”, vertelt astronoom Mike Brown aan New Scientist. Hij ontdekte 2007 OR10 in het vorige decennium. “Uit de berekeningen blijkt dat het object een diameter heeft tussen de 1310 en 1610 kilometer. Het is dus heel goed mogelijk dat ‘Sneeuwwitje’ toch nog kleiner is dan Makemake.”
Een groep sterrenkundigen van Sterrenwacht Leiden zoekt naar sterrenstelsels aan de rand van het waarneembare heelal. Maar wat is de rand van het heelal? En waarom kunnen we niet verder kijken?
Zoeken naar sterrenstelsels aan de rand van ons waarneembare heelal. Dat is waar een groep sterrenkundigen van de Sterrewacht Leiden, waar ik mijn promotieonderzoek deed, zich mee bezig houdt. Maar wat is de rand van het heelal? Het heelal is tenslotte oneindig groot. Maar hoe verder we het heelal inkijken, hoe verder we terugkijken in de tijd. Kort na de oerknal was het heelal ondoorzichtig omdat alle materie, voornamelijk waterstof en helium, in geïoniseerde toestand verkeerde. 380.000 jaar na de oerknal was de temperatuur van het heelal zo ver gedaald dat de waterstofionen elektronen konden invangen en er voor het eerst atomen ontstonden. We noemen dit proces recombinatie. Lichtstralen konden zich nu voor het eerst vrij door de ruimte bewegen en het heelal werd doorzichtig. Daarom kunnen we niet verder terugkijken dan 380.000 jaar na de oerknal. Voorbij deze ‘grens’ zien we niets meer. De ruimte houdt niet op, maar de tijd en de eindige leeftijd van het heelal begrenzen tot hoever we kunnen kijken. Binnen die grens bevindt zich het waarneembare universum.
“HET LICHT VAN STERRENSTELSELS AAN DE RAND VAN ONS HEELAL IS VAAK WEL 13,4 MILJARD JAAR ONDERWEG OM ONS TE BEREIKEN”
Lang onderweg Het licht van sterrenstelsels aan de rand van ons heelal is vaak wel 13,4 miljard jaar onderweg om ons te bereiken. Dat is 97% van de tijd sinds de oerknal. Dit betekent niet dat de huidige afstand tussen ons en deze sterrenstelsels ook 13,4 miljard lichtjaar is. Sinds het uitzenden van dat licht is het heelal namelijk flink uitgedijd en het stelsel staat nu dus veel verder dan 13,4 miljard lichtjaar van ons vandaan. Ook zien deze sterrenstelsels er vandaag de dag niet meer uit zoals ze op ons computerscherm achter de telescoop verschijnen. Met de tijd zullen de sterrenstelsels zijn gegroeid, samengesmolten met hun naaste buren en misschien zijn het zelfs wel rode en ‘dode’ stelsels geworden, waarin geen stervorming meer plaatsvindt. Dat weten we pas over vele miljarden jaren wanneer het licht dat nu deze stelsels verlaat bij ons op aarde is aangekomen.
De Melkweg.
Baby-Melkweg Op dezelfde manier zou er nu een beschaving kunnen zijn in dit sterrenstelsel aan de rand van het heelal dat terug in de tijd kijkt naar onze Melkweg. Ze zien daar niet onze prachtige geordende spiraalarmen en roterende schijf, maar onze Melkweg hoe die er 13.4 miljard jaar geleden uitzag. Waarschijnlijk was de baby-Melkweg een klein hoopje sterren dat verder veel turbulent gas bevatte. Wij zullen onze eigen geschiedenis nooit direct zien, wél die van andere stelsels in het vroege universum, sterrenstelsels die nu misschien wel op ons lijken. Daarmee kunnen we toch iets over onze eigen geschiedenis leren.
Het reïonisatietijdperk De sterrenstelsels in het vroege heelal waar we naar zoeken bevinden zich in het zogenoemde reïonisatietijdperk. De fase in de geschiedenis van het heelal die na de hierboven beschreven recombinatie volgt, toen het heelal gevuld was met neutraal waterstofgas, wordt vaak met ‘het donkere tijdperk’ aangeduid (zie de afbeelding hieronder). Sterren waren er toen nog niet. Zij ontstonden pas een paar honderd miljoen jaar na de oerknal en kort daarop waren de eerste sterrenstelsels een feit. Deze sterrenstelsels kunnen wij nu in principe zien aan de rand van het waarneembare heelal.

Raadsel in de sterrenkunde De geboorte van deze sterrenstelsels valt samen met het begin van het herionisatietijdperk. De eerste sterren en sterrenstelsels produceerden zoveel energierijke ultraviolette straling dat bijna al het neutrale waterstof in het heelal opnieuw in losse ionen en elektronen gesplitst werd. Deze faseovergang van het kosmische gas vormt al decennia lang een van grootste raadsels in de sterrenkunde. We zien de toestand van het gas veranderen in de metingen van vroege quasars (actieve zwarte gaten die omringende materie opslokken en daarbij enorme hoeveelheden energie vrijmaken), maar hoe het mogelijk is dat de kleine baby-stelsels uit die tijdsperiode genoeg energierijke straling kunnen produceren om het waterstofgas in het heelal opnieuw te ioniseren, is zeker nog niet duidelijk. Er zijn aanwijzingen dat de eerste sterren in het heelal uitzonderlijk zwaar en heet waren en daardoor voldoende ioniserende straling produceerden (zie de afbeelding hieronder). Of misschien was het de vrijgemaakte energie door de eerste quasars en andere materieopslokkende zwarte gaten.

Pas sinds een aantal jaar zijn we in staat om sterrenstelsels uit het reïonisatietijdperk te identificeren. Dit is zeker geen makkelijk karwei, maar omdat deze stelsels ons zoveel kunnen leren over deze vroege fase uit de geschiedenis van het heelal en de geschiedenis van onze eigen Melkweg, wordt er veel geïnvesteerd in dit onderzoek.

Stipjes in de ruis De eerste stap in het speuren naar sterrenstelsels aan de rand van het heelal is het zoeken naar de meest lichtzwakke objecten aan de hemel. De beroemde Hubble Space Telescope is daar uitstekend toe in staat. Elk jaar stelt het Hubble Space Telescope Science Institute een gedeelte van haar data vrij beschikbaar aan het publiek zodat sterrenkundigen (maar ook niet-sterrenkundigen) daar optimaal gebruik van kunnen maken en iedereen de mogelijkheid heeft om zelf naar de meest interessante objecten te zoeken. Een aantal gebieden aan de hemel zijn door de jaren heen zo vaak waargenomen dat de opgetelde belichtingstijd meer dan 100 uur beslaat. Door vele Hubble-opnames in de computer bij elkaar samen te voegen kunnen we de achtergrondruis steeds verder onderdrukken en zien we opeens allerlei piepkleine stipjes verschijnen. Die stipjes zijn bijna altijd sterrenstelsels die heel ver weg staan en waarvan het licht al miljarden jaren naar ons onderweg is.

De kleur bepalen De volgende stap is om met grote precisie de kleur van een sterrenstelsel te bepalen. Hoe verder een stelsel van ons af staat, hoe meer de golflengten van het licht zijn uitgerekt als gevolg van de uitdijing van het heelal. Het uitgerekte licht van vroege sterrenstelsels heeft nu een veel rodere kleur dan toen het werd uitgezonden. We spreken daarom van roodverschuiving. Hoe roder de kleur, hoe groter de afstand van het sterrenstelsel, hoe langer het licht van dat stelsel naar ons onderweg is en hoe verder wij het stelsel terug zien in de tijd. Door de rode kleur van sterrenstelsels te kwantificeren kunnen we zien uit welke tijdsperiode van het heelal het licht van een sterrenstelsel afkomstig is. Voor dit soort waarnemingen heeft Hubble camera’s met verschillende filters die voor de opnamechip geplaatst kunnen worden. Deze kleurenfilters laten heel specifieke golflengten door, bijvoorbeeld alleen blauw, groen of rood licht. Vervolgens proberen we zo nauwkeurig mogelijk de helderheid van een sterrenstelsel te meten door verschillende filters. Typisch worden zo’n 4 tot 7 opnames met verschillende filters gebruikt om een goede kleurbepaling te doen. Zo kunnen we de meest rode lichtbronnen en daarmee de beste kandidaten voor sterrenstelsels uit het reïonisatietijdperk uitselecteren.
Afstandsbepalingen met spectroscopie Een kleurbepaling levert alleen een schatting van de afstand van een sterrenstelsel op het moment dat het licht uitgezonden werd. Voor nauwkeurigere afstandsbepaling willen we met grote precisie de roodverschuiving meten. Dit doen we door gebruik te maken van spectraallijnen van verschillende atomen in het interstellaire gas van een sterrenstelsel. De golflengte waarop de spectraallijnen van een bepaald atoom worden uitgezonden staat vast en vormt een unieke vingerafdruk van dat element. Een gevoelige spectrograaf kan zelfs in sterrenstelsels aan de rand van het heelal deze spectraallijnen waarnemen. Zo kunnen we een directe vergelijking maken van de golflengte waarop de lijn in het verre sterrenstelsel waargenomen is en welke golflengte deze lijn in een aards laboratorium heeft. Het verschil tussen de twee golflengtes vertelt ons met zeer hoge nauwkeurigheid de roodverschuiving van hetsterrenstelsel.
Lyman-alpha Het overvloedig aanwezige waterstofgas in het heelal ‘produceert’ duidelijke spectraallijnen. De belangrijkste waterstoflijn heet Lyman-alpha, op een golflengte (zonder roodverschuiving) van 121.6 nanometer (nm). Door de hoge roodverschuiving meten we deze lijn in sterrenstelsels in het vroege universum typisch rond de 1000 nm. We vergelijken dit met het licht dat het menselijk oog waarneemt. De kleuren van de regenboog liggen in het golflengtegebied tussen 380 en 780 nm. De Lyman-alpha-lijn van waterstofgas straalt hier op aarde in het voor ons onzichtbare ultraviolette deel van het spectrum, maar verschuift helemaal naar het nabije infrarood voor deze verre sterrenstelsels waar het opnieuw onzichtbaar is voor onze ogen. Tot een paar jaar geleden werd Lyman-alpha veelvuldig gebruikt om vervolgonderzoek te doen aan sterrenstelsels die met Hubble waren geïdentificeerd als belangrijke kandidaat-stelsels in het vroege heelal. De afstanden van deze extreem verre stelsels werden bepaald met state-of-the-art nabij-infraroodspectrografen. Deze sterrenstelsels werden echter gevonden in de tijdsperiode nét na het reïonisatietijdperk. In het reïonisatietijdperk komen nog steeds grote hoeveelheden neutraal waterstofgas verspreid in het heelal voor. Neutraal waterstof absorbeert het Lyman-alpha-licht, zodat de eerste sterren en sterrenstelsels die tijdens het reïonisatietijdperk op het kosmische toneel verschenen, voor ons onzichtbaar blijven. Het neutrale waterstofgas in het reïonisatietijdperk is te vergelijken met de mist van het kosmische ochtendgloren waar we nauwelijks doorheen kunnen kijken.

James Webb Telescope Het is daarom uitermate moeilijk om sterrenstelsels in het reïonisatietijdperk te identificeren met behulp van waterstoflijnen. Hoewel het theoretisch mogelijk is om sterrenstelsels te identificeren met behulp van andere atomaire spectraallijnen, zijn er op dit moment geen instrumenten die gevoelig genoeg zijn en in het juiste golflengtegebied opereren voor deze waarnemingen. We hopen dat over een paar jaar hierin verandering zal komen met de lancering van de James Webb Space Telescope, maar tot die tijd zijn we voornamelijk van Lyman-alpha afhankelijk. Voorlopig blijft daarom de vraag: is het lage succesgehalte van het opsporen van verre sterrenstelsels met Lyman-alpha het gevolg van de absorptie door neutraal waterstof of is onze voorselectie die we met Hubble maken nog niet goed genoeg? Het nemen van spectra kan alleen via lange belichtingstijden met grote aardse telescopen, waardoor het belangrijk is om alleen de meest veelbelovende kandidaten te onderzoeken. Want hoe beter je selectie van kandidaat-sterrenstelsels door middel van een kleurenanalyse, hoe groter de kans op een succesvolle spectroscopische identificatie.

Spitzer Space Telescope In Leiden maken we de laatste paar jaar naast Hubble steeds meer gebruik van deSpitzer Space Telescope. Spitzer heeft een veel kleinere spiegel, slecht 85 cm in diameter in plaats van 2.4 m zoals Hubble, maar heeft als voordeel dat de telescoop, anders dan Hubble, kan waarnemen in het verre infrarood. In mijn promotieonderzoek werkte ik veel met verre infraroodopnames van Spitzer. Er werd lang gedacht dat de infraroodstraling die we met Spitzer in sterrenstelsels waarnemen, vooral afkomstig is van sterren met een lage massa. Kleine, lichte sterren zijn minder heet en stralen daardoor het grootste deel van hun licht in het infrarood uit. Omdat er veel meer lichte sterren zijn dan zware, kun je de totale massa aan sterren in een sterrenstelsel meten door te kijken naar de totale hoeveelheid straling in het verre infrarood. Tijdens mijn promotieonderzoek voerde ik met Spitzer deze massabepaling uit op (kandidaat)sterrenstelsels uit het reïonisatietijdperk. Tijdens dat werk deed ik een onverwachte ontdekking: er bleek ‘extra’ flux (stralingsintensiteit) aanwezig te zijn in één van de opnames van Spitzer, genomen met één specifiek filter. De extra flux was duidelijk niet aanwezig in opnames met andere kleurenfilters. Na alle andere opties uitgesloten te hebben kwamen we tot de conclusie dat het extra licht afkomstig moet zijn van de spectraallijnen van zuurstofatomen in het hete gas rondom pasgeboren sterren.
Nader onderzoek Waarom dit licht zo sterk is, is nog niet duidelijk en wordt nog nader onderzocht. Maar nu we weten dat het hete gas in deze sterrenstelsels zoveel licht uitstraalt in het verre infrarood, moeten we daar zeker rekening mee houden in ons onderzoek. Ten eerste is het belangrijk dat we onze massabepalingen van sterrenstelsels niet laten beïnvloeden door deze onverwachte lichtbron. Daarnaast geeft het hete gas ons een extra mogelijkheid voor het identificeren van sterrenstelsels in het reïonisatietijdperk. De verste sterrenstelsels hebben namelijk het meest roodverschoven licht en dat geldt dus ook voor het ‘extra’ licht van het hete gas dat we waarnemen in de opnames met bepaaldeSpitzer-filters.
Hoge lichtintensiteit Een groep wetenschappers in Leiden, Rychard Bouwens, Ivo Labbé, Mauro Stefanon, master-student Guido Roberts-Borsani en ikzelf, hebben verschillende Spitzer-opnames van sterrenstelsels onderzocht. Van deze stelsels vermoedden we al dat ze zich in het reïonisatietijdperk bevonden omdat de kleurmeting met Hubble daar op wees. Maar daarnaast hadden sommige sterrenstelsels ook een heel hoge lichtintensiteit in de opname met het meest rode filter van Spitzer. Een meting die bijna identiek was aan de sterrenstelsels met zuurstof-spectraallijnen die we al eerder hadden waargenomen, maar dan nóg verder roodverschoven! Deze ontdekking was de aanleiding voor een aantal vervolgwaarnemingen in samenwerking met wetenschappers Pascal Oesch (Yale University) en Adi Zitrin (Caltech) in de Verenigde Staten om te proberen een gedetailleerde afstandsbepaling te doen van de drie meest veelbelovende sterrenstelsels.
EÉN VAN DEZE STELSEL, DATEREND VAN SLECHTS 650 MILJOEN JAAR NA DE OERKNAL, BRAK HET AFSTANDSRECORD
Het verste sterrenstelsel ooit Sinds 2013 was het record van het verste sterrenstelsel ooit gemeten en bevestigd met een Lyman-alpha-lijn op 1034 nm, in handen van een stelsel waarvan het licht 700 miljoen jaar na de oerknal was vertrokken. Het stelsel werd opgespoord door Steven Finkelstein van de universiteit van Austin, Texas, met behulp van de Amerikaanse Keck-telescoop op Hawaï. Steven onderzocht een klein dozijn sterrenstelsels en kon slechts bij één daarvan de afstand vaststellen. Om dit record te verbeteren kreeg Pascal Oesch waarneemtijd op dezelfde Keck-telescoop tijdens de nachten van 23 en 25 april 2014. Twee kandidaat-sterrenstelsels, eerder achterhaald met zowel Hubble als Spitzer, werden waargenomen, en verrassend genoeg ontdekte Oesch de Lyman-alpha-lijn in beide stelsels op 1031 en 1062 nm. Eén van deze stelsels, EGS-zs8-1, dateerde van slechts 650 miljoen jaar na de oerknal en brak het afstandsrecord (zie hieronder).

Aangemoedigd door dit succes kreeg Adi Zitrin opnieuw de kans om op 10 en 11 juni 2015 een derde sterrenstelsel uit dezelfde Hubble en Spitzer-selectie te bestuderen met Keck. Opnieuw werd de Lyman-alpha lijn-vastgesteld, deze keer zelfs op 1178 nm. Het licht van dit stelsel, EGSY8p7, werd uitgezonden toen het heelal minder dan 600 miljoen jaar oud was (figuur 4 en 5). De identificatie van de ‘extra’ Spitzer-flux, veroorzaakt door het hete gas in stervormingsgebieden van extreem verre sterrenstelsels heeft in korte tijd grote gevolgen gehad voor de studie van deze stelsels aan de rand van het waarneembare heelal. Niet alleen deze nieuwe afstandsrecords zijn opmerkelijk, maar vooral de efficiëntie van het onderzoek: drie geselecteerde sterrenstelsels leverden drie Lyman-alpha-lijnen op waarmee de afstand kon worden bepaald. Betwisten deze ontdekkingen ons beeld dat neutraal waterstof in het reïonisatietijdperk Lyman-alpha absorbeert? Hoe kan het dat voorgaande studies slechts een efficiëntie van 5% konden bereiken?
Het verre sterrenstelsel, EGSY8p7, ontstond toen het heelal nog maar 550 miljoen jaar oud was. Deze recordhouder is ontdekt in afbeeldingen van de Hubble- en Spitzer-ruimtetelescopen. De bijzonder rode kleur in de infraroodafbeelding van Spitzer was aanleiding om het stelsel nader te onderzoeken. Het raadsel van de geïoniseerde bubbels Het waargenomen Lyman-alpha-licht in deze extreem verre sterrenstelsels is afkomstig uit het reïonisatietijdperk en stelt ons voor een raadsel. We weten dat er veel absorberend neutraal waterstof aanwezig was in het heelal rond die tijd, maar duidelijk zijn niet alle gebieden van het vroege universum compleet gevuld met dit gas. Want anders zouden we stelsels als EGS-zs8-1 en EGSY8p7 nooit kunnen waarnemen.

Hypothese Eén mogelijke hypothese is dat deze sterrenstelsels zelf genoeg ioniserende straling hebben uitgezonden voor het vormen van een grote ‘bubbel’ of bel van geïoniseerd gas rondom het stelsel. De Lyman-alpha-straling kan deze bel ongehinderd doorkruisen, maar wordt onderweg roodverschoven – en verliest daardoor energie – als gevolg van de uitdijing van het heelal. Tegen de tijd dat het licht een gaswolk van neutraal waterstof tegenkomt kan die het Lyman-alpha-licht niet meer absorberen: de energie van de fotonen is daarvoor nu te laag. Dat lukt alleen als de bel een voldoende grote afmeting heeft. Tijdens de reis van het Lyman-alpa-licht door de bel moet de afgelegde afstand en de reistijd groot genoeg zijn om de expansie van het heelal zijn werk te laten doen. De roodverschuiving moet immers groot genoeg zijn om te voorkomen dat de straling in de ‘mist’ van het neutrale waterstof voorbij de grens van de geïoniseerde bubbel verdwijnt.
Hoe ontstaat zo’n bubbel? De vraag is nu: hoe is deze geïoniseerde bubbel ontstaan? Waar komt de ioniserende straling vandaan om dergelijke reusachtige bellen te vormen? Misschien bestaat er een verband met de mysterieuze spectraallijnen van zuurstof die deze drie sterrenstelsels hebben. Deze lijnen zijn afkomstig van het hete gas rondom de stervormingsgebieden in deze stelsels. Het zou kunnen dat in deze sterrenstelsels extreem hete sterren geboren worden die overmatig veel ioniserende ultraviolette straling produceren. Een aantal kandidaten zoals snel roterende sterren en massieve binaire sterren zijn voorgesteld, maar bewijs vinden voor één van deze theorieën is heel moeilijk. Misschien zal de James Webb-telescoop uitsluitsel geven.
Alternatief Een alternatieve hypothese voor de geïoniseerde bubbels zegt dat deze sterrenstelsels in een redelijk ver gevorderd stadium van hun evolutie verkeren. De grote helderheid van deze stelsels kan daarop wijzen. Ver ontwikkelde sterrenstelsels vormen vaak groepen en leven dus in overbevolkte gebieden. Dat zou betekenen dat er meerdere sterrenstelsels in de buurt moeten zijn en dat de gezamenlijke straling van deze groep sterrenstelsels een bel van geïoniseerd gas kan produceren. Om deze theorie te bevestigen zal er nog veel meer telescooptijd moeten worden geïnvesteerd, aangezien de sterrenstelsels in de directe nabijheid van onze nieuw ontdekte stelsels veel lichtzwakker zijn.
Voor onze onderzoeksgroep bestaat de eerstvolgende stap uit het verzamelen van een grotere steekproef van dit soort sterrenstelsels. We hebben meer kandidaten met Spitzer geselecteerd en nieuwe waarneemtijd is toegewezen aan Ivo Labbé door de European Southern Observatory om met de Very Large Telescope in Chili naar Lyman-alpha te zoeken in deze sterrenstelsels. We komen stapje voor stapje dichter bij het oplossen van het raadsels van het reionisatietijdperk en het vinden van sterrenstelsels in het meest vroege stadium van het heelal.

5 Ways to Travel Through Time
Ever wondered how you could travel through time? If so, you’re not alone, as numerous scientists are also preoccupied with this idea, and they even put a few experiments together to prove their theories.
1. Speed
This is probably the most pragmatic way to move through time. Einstein’s theory of special relativity shows that whenever you travel at speeds close to the speed of light, time slows down in contrast with the outside world. It’s not just a theory, since special measurements had already been done. With the help of two atomic clocks, one onboard a jet aircraft and the other stationary on Earth, physicists have proven that the moving clock was ticking slower, due to the traveling speed of the aircraft.
It wasn’t much of a time altering since we’re far off from achieving the speed of light, but if the craft traveled at 90% of the speed of light, the time would pass approximately 2.6 time slower than it would on the Earth. Of course, if we would push the speed even further, time would slow even more.
2. Gravity
This method is also inspired by Einstein. According to his theory of general relativity, the more intense the gravity, the slower time moves. For example, if you were to travel to the center of our planet, the gravity force would increase, making time pass slower than it would on the surface.
This effect has also been measured. In 2010, physicists at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) put two atomic clocks 33 centimeters above the other, proving there was a slight difference between their ticking rate. The one above ticked faster because the gravitational force was lower, while the one below experienced a small ticking delay.
But how can we travel to the future using this method? We only need a region with extremely strong gravity, like a black hole. Whenever you approach its event horizon, time will move slower, but this is too risky for the moment, as scientists are yet to determine what lies beyond that.
In any case, if we had the technology to reach a black hole (the closest one being 3,000 light years away,) the time altering achieved through traveling would be far greater than what we would obtain by orbiting the black hole itself.
3. Suspended animation
Now we’re talking about a more realistic way to achieve time travel , if we take into account our current technological means. Unlike the above mentioned strategies, the suspended animation will temporarily slow you perception of time by gradually lowering or stopping your body processes in order to be restarted at a later date. So instead of chasing after time travel, why not wait for it instead?
Bacterial spores are renowned for their ability to survive for millions of years in a variation of suspended animation, until the necessary conditions for life are met. At this point, they’ll just restart their metabolisms once more.
Another example comes from the animal kingdom, where bears and squirrels can slow down their metabolism while they hibernate, drastically reducing the requirements of their cells when it comes to food and oxygen. But are humans able to do the same?
4. Wormholes
Because the Universe is so vast, it allows for certain shrotcuts through spacetime so you can visit it faster. The wormhole acts as a bridge between two different points in the cosmos, providing a fast a reliable journey through billion of light years or more.
Numerous scientists, including Stephen Hawking, believe that wormholes are continuously appearing all around us, but only at a quantum scale, which is far lower than atoms. To make this viable for humans, we have to find a way to contain a wormhole and adjust its size so that we would be able to travel through it. Such a feat is doable…at least in theory.
5. Using light
Last, but not least, the idea put together by American physicist Ron Mallet points out that we could use a rotating cylinder of light to spin spacetime. At this point, anything released inside the vortex of light would theoretically be sucked-up in space and time similar to how “a bubble runs around on top of your coffee after you swirl it with a spoon.”
Mallet explains that such an experiment could grant access to time travel, but time could go either way, meaning that you could end up either in the future or the past. After publishing his theory in 2000, Mallet has been trying to raise the necessary funds to bring his concept into reality. His plan aims at dropping neutrons through a circular device of spinning lasers.
Although his assumptions were neglected by the physics community because of a small glitch found in the basic model, his experiment is likely to work if the upcoming years will bring more understanding of the laser physics.

A recent NASA experiment involving a balloon and infrasound microphones picked up some mysterious noises from the edge of space. Scientists have their theories about what the recordings could be, but at this point, the true origin of the sound remains a mystery, according to Live Science.
The research, the first of its kind in 50 years, involved sending a helium balloon to 22 miles above Earth’s surface, or about three times higher than the altitude planes fly at. Attached to the balloon were infrasound microphones, recording devices that can pick up sound at frequencies below 20 hertz per second – the lowest threshold of the human hearing range.
It was the highest point from which an infrasound recording had ever been taken. The experiment, conducted in August 2014, was designed by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduate student Daniel Bowman as part of NASA’s High Altitude Student Platform project, which was launched in 2006. “I was surprised by the sheer complexity of the signal,” Bowman told Live Science. "It sounds kind of like 'The X-Files.’" The balloon floated over New Mexico and Arizona for 450 miles, according to scientists.
While the origin of the bizarre space noises hasn’t yet been determined, scientists say the explanation might disappoint alien enthusiasts. The sounds could have come from something as non-extraterrestrial as crashing ocean waves, the vibration of the balloon’s cable, or air turbulence. The environment is full of infrasound from both natural and manmade sources. Most of them don’t travel from a galaxy far, far away.
This isn’t the first NASA-funded balloon experiment to take flight in recent years. In March, World View, a private space exploration company based in Arizona that wants to one day send tourists in to the near-space frontier, released a 331,000-cubic-foot helium balloon into the sky carrying two student experiments – one to monitor cosmic rays, and the other to measure the distribution of gases in Earth’s atmosphere.

At U.I.P we always aim to bring you up-to date and breaking UFO stories, but we also like researching the historical paranormal events which have been suppressed by mainstream history, exactly like this one, the place is South of France, 5th august 1608:
The inhabitants of the South France, from Marseille to Antibes, witnessed a true UFO major incident, reported in a chronicle entitled “Discours des terribles et espouvantables signes apparus sur la mer de Gennes”.

The inhabitants saw three strange luminous vessels which evolved at high speed above the city. The three crafts stopped near the fortress and descended to just above the water where they cause the water to boil and emit a red-orange vapour.

Numerous witnesses saw two humanoid beings with large heads and large luminous eyes, dressed in a red suit with silver scales, connected to the flying machine by tubes, and engaged themselves in several hours of strange work before going back inside their crafts and diving into the sea.
While this incident was amazing on its own, another mass UFO sighting was occurring just a few miles away.
In Genoa, an aerial battle took place between flying objects and other craft emerging from the sea. Witnesses described the event as very loud and violent; the smell in the air was putrid and it was “raining blood”, some citizens were, quite understandably, terrified and running for their lives.
Once the battle was over, 3 crafts returned to the port and hovered over the sea, it was then the army fired over 800 canon shots towards them! Obviously the crafts were unscathed and dived into the sea never to be seen again…

– These UFO sightings lasted for several days and witnessed by thousands of people from the south of France to Italy, but how many of you have heard about this incident?
It seems that different type of aliens have engaged in battles here on Earth throughout history, some described in the Mahabharata, one violent battle witnessed by hundreds of people in Nuremberg on April 1561, this one in the south of France, there have been many more which are suppressed by the powers that be.
Why have we not seen any further battles between UFOs? Are they using humans to settle their differences? They do work with some powerful governments after all, and maybe some wars we have seen in the past century had an alien influence…

When it comes to space exploration, how far can we actually go? Is there a true limit, even with the sci-fi tech of the future, to humanity’s reach beyond Earth?
As the Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell video above explains, humanity lives in a small area of the Milky Way - an average spiral galaxy that’s about 100,000 light-years across. Like many other spiral galaxies, it's full of stars, planets, gases, and dark energy, with a supermassive black hole in the centre. Though we might think of our galaxy as crowded, most of it is actually empty space.
Scaling up from there, the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies, along with about 50 dwarf galaxies, belong to our 'local group', which spans roughly 10 million light-years. Our local group is just one out of hundreds of other groups that make up the Laniakea Supercluster, which, in turn, is just a tiny part of the observable Universe.
Now that we know where we stand spatially, let’s assume that humanity’s future rockets will meet a science fiction level of interstellar travel. With all of these advances, how far from Earth could we possibly get?
Sadly, not that far. In fact, humanity will only ever get to explore the local group.
But that’s okay, though, right? The local group is 10 million light-years in diameter. Surely that’s a considerable amount of Universe? Nope! According to the video, our local group is just 0.00000000001 percent of the observable Universe. That’s 100 billionth of a percent! In other words, humanity’s reach miniscule, which is a total bummer.
So what’s holding us back? In short: space itself. Space isn’t truly empty like it appears - it’s actually full of energy and different parts of the Universe have denser pockets than others. To understand this, we have to go all the way back to the Big Bang, which inflated the Universe from the size of a marble to an unimaginable size.
During this event, quantum fluctuations stretched out, making denser areas of the Universe. Since then, gravity has been pulling everything back together because that’s just what gravity likes to do. In smaller areas, like our local group, gravity formed galaxies and everything that comes along with them.
Over time, these groups grew apart, thanks to mysterious nature of dark energy, which researchers say is responsible for the expansion of the Universe, though they know almost nothing about it. This means that our local group isn’t bound to other groups by gravity, causing them to float away from us.
Since these galaxies are traveling at breakneck speeds away from us, even if wewere to enter intergalactic space, we’d never move fast enough to reach them. In the future, this expansion will continue, and we'll eventually lose the ability to even see these other groups.
While these groups move away, the galaxies inside our group will come together to form 'Milkdromeda', a combination of our galaxy and Andromeda (if you couldn’t tell by that name). All of this means that, if there are still people around when Milkdromeda forms, they'll look out at the Universe and see nothing but darkness (sorry for the existential crisis).
Sounds pretty bleak, right? In a way, sure, but it’s important to remember that we haven’t even made it to Mars properly yet. There’s still a lot out there to explore before local groups separate enough for us to not see them. We’re talking billions of years - plenty of time!

Wormholes could be the key to beating the Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, say physicists
And it could solve some of computer science’s most intractable problems.

Time travel seems much more common in science fiction than it is in reality. We’ve never met anyone from the future, after all. But all of the physics we know indicates that wormholes - another science fiction favourite - could really be used to travel backwards in time.
And according to a paper by Chinese physicists, using wormholes for time travel might actually allow us to beat Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle - described asone of the most famous (and probably misunderstood) ideas in physics - and even to solve some of the most difficult problems in computer science.
Wormholes are like portals between two places in the Universe. If you fell in one side, you’d pop out the other immediately, regardless of how far apart the two sides were. But wormholes are also like portals between two times in the Universe. As Carl Sagan liked to say, you wouldn’t just emerge somewhere else in space, but also somewhen else in time.
If two sides of a wormhole were close enough together, you might even be able to stop yourself from falling in. You could emerge back in time, run over to the version of you about to step into the wormhole, and tackle them to the ground.
Doing this would make what’s called a closed timelike curve, or CTC - and it would cause some logical issues. I mean, if you stop yourself from jumping into the wormhole, then how did you jump in in order to emerge from the other side and tackle yourself?
This is a version of the grandfather paradox, where you’ve done something after travelling back in time to make yourself unable to travel back in time, which makes you unable to stop yourself, which makes you able to stop yourself, and so on.
Physicists know that the paradoxical nature of CTCs makes them have some cool properties. You can use them to do things like measure the properties of particles better than Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle says you should be able to, and you can even solve computational problems that quantum computers don’t even allow you to solve.
But they still have those annoying paradoxes, and physicists don’t like paradoxes.
So they came up with alternatives called open timelike curves, or OTCs. OTCs still let you travel back in time, but they require that the Universe conspire to always make wormholes far enough apart that you could never, no matter what you did, stop yourself from falling in. You might be able to emerge and watch yourself, but you couldn’t do a thing about it. Paradox averted.
But can OTCs do all of the cool things that CTCs can do? A team led by Mile Gu from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China decided to find out.
First, they looked at the measurement thing: whether an OTC could be used to measure the properties of a bunch of particles to unlimited precision. In regular quantum mechanics, all measurements are limited by Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, which puts a fundamental limit on what we can know about a particle.
But Gu’s group showed that if you take advantage of the way that particles can be synchronised with each other before entering an OTC, all of the particles will emerge from the other side of the wormhole just about exactly lined up with one another.
Heisenberg says that you can’t measure any individual particle to unlimited precision, but measuring each member of the whole group would allow researchers to beat this fundamental limit. It’s like how one flip of a coin can’t tell you if the coin has heads on both sides, but 1,000 flips later, you can be pretty sure.
Then the team went one better. They showed that very similar systems could be used as computers - computers that would work even better than quantum computers. Some of the hardest computational problems are ones where we just have to try all of the answers that we can think of, see which one works the best, and hope that we didn’t forget to try one that would’ve worked even better.
Quantum computers won’t even always be able to master these kinds of problems, but physicists had shown that CTCs could. And now, Gu’s team showed that OTCs could too.
All of this, of course, is only really useful if wormholes (or some other means of time travel) exist. They’re as much a consequence of the laws of physics as black holes are, so it seems like they should be out there somewhere.
Astronomers, cosmologists, and particle physicists are doing their best to scan the Universe for them. If they ever do find a wormhole, whether it lets you tackle your past self or not, physicists would be able to use some of these remarkable properties to measure and compute in ways that seem impossible everywhere else in the Universe.

With more than two years of measurements by ESA’s Swarm satellite trio, changes in the strength of Earth's magnetic field are being mapped in detail.
Launched at the end of 2013, Swarm is measuring and untangling the different magnetic signals from Earth’s core, mantle, crust, oceans, ionosphere and magnetosphere – an undertaking that will take several years to complete.
Although invisible, the magnetic field and electric currents in and around Earth generate complex forces that have immeasurable effects on our everyday lives.
The field can be thought of as a huge bubble, protecting us from cosmic radiation and electrically charged atomic particles that bombard Earth in solar winds. However, it is in a permanent state of flux. The animation above shows the strength of Earth's magnetic field and how it changed between 1999 and May 2016.
Blue depicts where the field is weak and red shows regions where it is strong. As well as recent data from the Swarm constellation, information from the CHAMP and Orsted satellites were also used to create the map.
It shows clearly that the field has weakened by about 3.5% at high latitudes over North America, while it has strengthened about 2% over Asia. The region where the field is at its weakest – the South Atlantic Anomaly – has moved steadily westward and weakened further by about 2%.
In addition, the magnetic north pole is wandering east, towards Asia.
As remarkable as these changes sound, they're mild compared to what Earth's magnetic field has done in the past. Sometimes the field completely flips, with north and the south poles swapping places. Such reversals, recorded in the magnetism of ancient rocks, are unpredictable. They come at irregular intervals averaging about 300,000 years; the last one was 780,000 years ago.

Ryanair, an Irish Airline used COINTELPRO to get rid of the UFO RYANAIR case. A near-collision between a plane and UFO almost had cost lives. A Ryanair passenger witnessed a gobbling near-collision with a UFO just after the plane took off.
On December 31st 2014, 3:55PM CET, the Ryanair plane took off from Eindhoven airport, after 10 minutes airborne the UFO approached the plane with high velocity, overtook the plane and came back again towards the plane.
The evidence of the UFO Ryanair was recorded on camera by the passenger. KLM flight attendant reviewed the footage and confirmed the pilot was in distress, because of the unusual maneuver.
Although it is said that it would have been a UFO it's more likely a drone which nearly collided with the plane.
A recent study shows just how frequently planes and drones nearly collide. A report about drone incidentsreleased by a research group at Bard College said that there were 327 incidents of drones flying too close to piloted aircraft from December 2013 through September 2015.
The report’s authors said they counted 28 incidents of pilots taking evasive action to avoid a collision.
The latest incident just happened last month on April 16, 2016, when a British Airways pilot flying into London reported that an object believed to be a drone, struck the front of the plane while landing at Heathrow Airport from Geneva, Switzerland. Despite of the dangerous situation, the flight landed safely.
Due to the on-going incidents the British government is considering introducing a drone-registration scheme so the aerial vehicles can be traced back to their owners, while in the U.S, the FAA introduced a registration plan in December, with owners facing a fine if they don't comply. More than 400,000 people had registered by the end of March.
