In Search of Earth Lights: Hunting Nature’s Mysterious Illuminations

“We really had a great show,” Bob told me as the three of us walked up the gravel path toward the Parkview Lodge in Linville Falls, North Carolina.

Before he took his first engineering job with Bell Laboratories decades ago, Bob had worked mostly on weekends as a professional keyboard player in a progressive rock band. However, his musical expertise had little to do with the kind of “show” he was describing for us now.

“In these pictures, you’ll see one of the lights rising steadily over the mountaintop,” Bob’s friend Bill, also a musician of many years, explained. “Bob captured the entire sequence, but in my photo, you’ll actually see where the object changed direction.”

Bob Ashmore and Bill Fox began coming down to Western North Carolina years ago, tagging along with other coworkers who spent their vacation time looking for scenic areas of the Eastern United States where weekend hiking trips were ideal. But that wasn’t all that had drawn the two engineers to the region.

“One of the guys on that first trip had a Commander X book,” Bob recalled, referring to a peculiarly kooky book first published back in the 1970s called Underground Alien Bases: Flying Saucers Come From Inside The Earth! (the book can still be purchased onlinehere). “I remember reading through it, and seeing that it talked about a supposed underground base right where we were going!”

The base, as the book alleged, existed underneath Brown Mountain, North Carolina, which had already been recognized as a “UFO hotspot” for decades, due to the anomalous lights that are famously associated with the region. Needless to say, there’s no evidence that any “underground bases” exist beneath Brown Mountain — nor any other localities in the region — although such amusing rumors have been occasionally fueled by periodic Special Forces training operations carried out in the nearby Linville Gorge (a friend of mine, who had undergone training with Green Berets in the region a number of years ago, once described to me the harsh conditions the rugged Linville Gorge provided during such training excursions, which included scouring creeks for crayfish and salamanders in order to survive).

Despite all the silly talk of underground bases, it had been the kernel of possibility that a valid “earth light” phenomenon seemed to be occurring in the region that caught Fox and Ashmore’s attention, giving rise to decades of return visits to try and observe and photograph the region’s mysterious illuminations.

Much the same, it was my own interest in the subject — and one of my many personal visits to the area in search of possible causes for these alleged “earth lights” — that I met the aforementioned Pennsylvania lab workers. To this day, they continue to visit the region with hope of observing the strange nighttime “light shows”, and I often join them to compare notes about what is known, and what remains unknown, about the so-called “Brown Mountain Lights.”

Briefly, to give a bit of background on the broader “earth light” phenomenon, I will cite Sean B. Palmer’s essay “Earth Lights: Spooklights and Ghost Lights“, which gives an authoritative overview of the subject. Of course, it is a theme that has been documented by many others, including physicist William R. Corliss, Paul Devereux (as outlined in the excerpt below), and my own contributions in previous articles and MU posts over the years; Palmer’s definition and brief history of the phenomenon is as follows:

“Earth lights are a rare anomalous light phenomenon, mistaken throughout history as dragons, UFOs, and ball lightning before being recognised as a separate category. One leading theory is that they are produced by tectonic strain in minor fault lines, so that they are literally generated by the earth.

In America they’ve been called “spooklights” or “ghost lights” since at least the 1950s, but Persinger and Lafrenière were the first scientists to recognise the phenomenon, in the late 1970s. The lights were renamed and brought to wider public attention by Paul Devereux in 1982 with his publication “Earth Lights”.

They appear in many colours, shapes, and sizes, though the basketball-sized globular orange variety seems most common. Most sightings occur at night, when some lights can be seen from miles around. They’re reported to be able to move against the wind and reach extraordinary speeds. Their terrestrial nature means that though many sightings are sporadic, there are some locations where they appear relatively often. It’s through studying these hotspots, such as Hessdalen in Norway and the Engligh Pennines, that their characteristics become evident.”

The assessment above is largely informed by the research by British scientists that occurred in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, during which some of the most interesting scientific work pertaining to the earth light phenomenon was undertaken.

The lights seen near Linville, North Carolina, known colloquially as “The Brown Mountain Lights” due to their prevalence near that location, have a history dating back to 1913. Some sources maintain that there are earlier legends about the lights, but despite this long-held rumor, no apparent evidence for this exists. Skeptical researcher Joe Nickel offers the following brief, but quite concise, history of scientific research into the cause of the lights, in his article from earlier this year:

The first known reference to the lights in print was in the September 13, 1913,Charlotte Daily Observer. In 1913 a U.S. Geological Survey geologist concluded the lights were those of locomotives, while a U.S. Weather Bureau report of 1919 explained the phenomenon as an electrical discharge compared to South America’s “Andes Light,” although the writer had not actually visited the site.

The careful reader will note that, while I have disagreed with some of Nickel’s conclusions in the past, I don’t disagree with him on all points. In order to lend a bit of balance to this post, I am comfortable citing Joe’s research here, and unlike many skeptics that write about this subject, Joe has taken the time to travel to Brown Mountain, and put in the hours of field research that many other “experts” on the phenomenon have not (this explains his mention of the U.S. Weather Bureau report above, which likened the Brown Mountain phenomenon to another “spook light”, though the author of that report had not witnessed it firsthand).

And, despite my own numerous visits to the region, I too am one of these individuals that has seen very little which seems to fall into the category of “undeniable proof” of some mysterious phenomena at work. What I have seen, as far as evidence, includes many photographs, and I’ve interviewed at least a dozen or more witnesses over the years who have shared detailed accounts of lights they observed there under a variety of meteorological conditions. To me, this suggests something real is occurring in the region, which bears similarity to lights, similar in behavior to ball lightning, that are observed near Hessdalen, Norway, as well as mysterious illuminations seen at Marfa, Texas, and a variety of other places around the world.

However, the problem with the long-held mystery of the Brown Mountain Lights is that, as we attempt to learn “what the lights are”, we must acknowledge that we are actually dealing with a variety of different sources of illumination, the majority of which have very prosaic underlying sources.

During one of our visits to Wiseman’s View, a popular observation point for light-watchers in the Linville Gorge, Ashmore, Fox and I were accompanied by a number of area locals. At one point, someone exclaimed, “look, there’s one!” and, turning our attention toward the light in question, the object did appear rather unusual… at least while viewed with the naked eye, and at a distance.

“Here”, a voice from behind me said. “Try looking at it through these.” Chris, an off-duty fireman from the nearby Jonas Ridge community, handed me a pair of quality binoculars, and focusing on the light, the enhanced optical conditions they provided clearly revealed the flashing beacon of a small aircraft, which had been obscured by the partly cloudy conditions further away.

I stayed and spoke with Chris afterward, comparing notes about the lights that so many describe seeing. “I’m convinced that 99% of what you see up here is just locals over there on Table Rock and Hawksbill Mountain, playing the Brown Mountain Lights game,” he said. “They’ll get up there with Chinese lanterns, flashlights, Roman candles, and whatever else, just to get a rise out of people.”

Despite his skepticism, Chris was quick to assert that he had had a few of his own observations. “When things are seen, it’s never over here in the Gorge,” he told me. “But I remember a number of years ago, on Christmas Eve, I had been driving down Highway 181 toward Morganton, and as I passed Brown Mountain on my left, there was a very odd light that moved across the side of the mountain. These weren’t orbs, and they didn’t resemble headlights. They moved like blue-white electricity, crackling across the mountain at ground level. They moved too quickly to have been off-road vehicles, and I remember radioing other firefighters on duty that night, who saw them over the course of the evening as well.”

Chris further noted that the lights, whatever they had been, had appeared when it was particularly cold. “The night we observed the lights, I’ll never forget because it was on Christmas Eve, and it got unusually cold that year. I believe the temperature had been about 3 below zero.”

While noting the fact that I’ve never seen something I take to have been an anomalous occurrence in the area, there have still been instances that have caused me to wonder. On one occasion many years ago, I had traveled with two friends to the 181 Overlook, roughly the same area where Chris and the other firefighters had observed the “electric” lights on Christmas Eve several years earlier. High in the sky, I observed an amber-colored light, which was moving slowly over the mountain where we stood, which suddenly blinked out. At the time, I had guessed that a refraction might have occurred, in which I had seen the reflection of distant headlights moving up the mountain, which might explain both the color, as well as sudden “blinking out” as the light vanished. Years later, I also considered that the light might have been the International Space Station, a satellite, or possibly a bit of metallic debris in low-orbit as it entered the Earth’s shadow. However, the amber coloration seems inconsistent with my numerous other observations of the aforementioned orbital objects, which are bright white in appearance, similar to starlight.

Where the “advocates” and the “skeptics” seem to find the most common ground is that, despite the legends about the lights and their various causes, it remains clear that there is no single phenomenon that is recognized as being the “only” source of the Brown Mountain Lights. While a fairly consistent hypothesis has suggested over the years that the “real” lights may be something akin to ball lightning, the majority of the objects seen and photographed near the area likely have more prosaic origins.

Again, as skeptic Joe Nickel wrote earlier this year in his Skeptical Inquirer piece, “The evidence is clear: There is no single explanation because there is no single phenomenon(author’s emphasis). Just as we know that not all UFOs are weather balloons, not all Brown Mountain lights have a single cause.” Despite Nickel’s acceptance that there are a variety of causes underlying reports of the Brown Mountain Lights (he acknowledges the possibility that some are actually ball lightning, too), it is worth noting that the article in which he stated this had been titled, “The Brown Mountain Lights: Solved! (Again!)”. To be fair, there is actual no solution being offered here; instead, there is what I would call an instructional assertion that, while a number of things are seen at Brown Mountain and surrounding areas, no single phenomenon has been accounted for as being “the” supposed light source in question. In truth, most of us appear to agree on that point, regardless of our interpretations of the likelihood of there being a “mystery” at hand.

In the end, perhaps there are good questions that can be asked, without having to bring alien craft, ghosts of ancient Native Americans, or inter-dimensional vortexes into the equation; though I have very seldom, if ever, met anyone with a serious interest in the lights who actually asserts that such things are the underlying causes of the illuminations. Both the science-minded skeptics I’ve worked with, as well as the more open-minded amateur researchers, seem to lean toward a ball lightning or “earth light” explanation. If there are indeed any particular factors about the region that cause such illuminations to occur here, and with greater frequency than in other locations, this area may yet provide us with something unique, after all.

For my part, I think there is certainly data that warrants further consideration for the Brown Mountain and Linville light phenomena. If even a minority of the illuminations reported have something to do with environmental conditions that may cause this area to be more “active” than others, it seems it should be worth devoting time for study; whether that relates to an actual source of light, or merely the presence of meteorological conditions that cause an increased potential for refractions, mirages, etc. Either circumstance may offer new clues about our natural world, and what kinds of special conditions might contribute to the broader observation of unidentified lights in our night sky.

“Wapens die krachtiger zijn dan kernwapens”: Er zijn meerdere ‘Area 51’s’

Er wordt al tientallen jaren gediscussieerd over het bestaan van ondergrondse bases. Al in 1968 deed het Stanford Research Institute onderzoek naar de bouw van tientallen onderzeese bases.

Zijn er naast Area 51 nog andere ondergrondse bases op aarde? In 1987 zei Lloyd A. Duscha van het geniekorps van het Amerikaanse leger tijdens een conferentie: “Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog raakte het geniekorps betrokken bij het ontwerpen en de bouw van een aantal zeer complexe en interessante legerprojecten. Een aantal ondergrondse installaties die ontworpen en gebouwd zijn door het korps, zijn geheim.”

Hij ging daarna in op de betrokkenheid van het korps bij de bouw van een grote NORAD-basis diep onder de Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado in de jaren zestig. NORAD is een organisatie die waakt over het Amerikaanse en Canadese luchtruim.

Walter Koerschner werkte in de jaren zestig als illustrator voor de Amerikaanse marine. In die periode had de marine al plannen voor complexe en grote bases onder de zeebodem. Er zijn ook ondergrondse installaties waarvan het bestaan is bevestigd. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan de ondergrondse scheepswerf in het Zweedse Muskö, die onderdeel is van het Zweedse defensiebedrijf Saab.

Dr. Sauder doet al geruime tijd onderzoek naar ondergrondse legerbases. In zijn boek deelt hij een interessant verhaal:

“Enkele jaren geleden werd ik na een lezing benaderd door een man die werkzaam was geweest voor de Amerikaanse marine. Hij zei dat hij enige tijd was gestationeerd in China Lake in Californië. Ik vroeg hem of er een ondergrondse basis was in China Lake. Hij antwoordde bevestigend en zei dat de basis zeer groot en diep is. Ik vroeg hem of hij ooit in de basis was geweest, waarop hij zei dat hij wel eens in de basis was geweest, maar nooit de diepste niveaus had bereikt. Hij zei dat de basis meer dan 1,5 kilometer diep is. Ik vroeg hem wat er in de ondergrondse basis ligt opgeslagen. Wapens, antwoordde hij. Ik vroeg hem wat voor soort wapens er liggen opgeslagen. Wapens die krachtiger zijn dan kernwapens, antwoordde hij zonder te pauzeren.”

Topgeheime memo

Er zijn documenten uit de periode rond de Koude Oorlog waarin wordt gesproken over bases onder Washington DC en China Lake. De stukken laten zien dat het leger in 1964 overwoog een enorme basis te bouwen onder China Lake.

De eerste topgeheime memo over dit onderwerp werd op 7 november 1963 geschreven door de toenmalige Amerikaanse minister van Defensie Robert McNamara.

Een tweede memo die van dezelfde dag dateert verhaalt over een Deep Underground National Command Center op meer dan een kilometer onder Washington. In de memo staat informatie over liftschachten onder het ministerie van Defensie en het Witte Huis die naar de basis leiden.

Mississippi witness recalls UFO close encounter

A Mississippi witness at Foxworth recalled a UFO incident from 2005 that includes a close encounter and possible abduction, according to testimony in Case 77312 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The events unfolded shortly after Hurricane Katrina moved through the area in 2005 and are best told in the witness’s own words.

“Around August 23rd through the 24th of 2005; Hurricane Katrina’s Eye came over my parent’s home,” the witness stated.“The hurricane came from the south from New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico and proceeded north going over Foxworth and Columbia, Mississippi, from which I was living at the time with my parents.”

The hurricane then moved northeast/east going over Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

“Complete devastation of trees, buildings, animal life – such as cows and deer which were thrown against and wrapped around bob-wired fences – and were later discovered dead. In addition, homes and boats completely obliterated from every angle the eye could see.”

During this time, the witness was working on a garbage truck as a hopper for the City of Columbia.

“On Monday, August 29^th,2005 – after a 12-hour day hauling rotten garbage due to the electricity going out and everyone that didn’t have a generator had to throw away everything they had in their deep freezers and refrigerators – this event was causing serious smells at every home we arrived to extremely stinking garbage to be hauled away.”

Almost a week later and there was still no running water.

“So in extreme need of a bath or shower and refusing to settle washing myself down with wet rags and a bowl of water, I decided to take a ride to a creek nearby a church I use to attend. After arriving at the creek in pitch dark – so dark I couldn’t see my hand if placed on my nose – I stripped down and went skinny dipping, feeling so refreshed washing the rotten garbage smell off my body.”

Then the witness saw the UFO.

“As I was washing my cloths and scrubbing myself down with icy cold, creek water and soap, a huge, round-like airship with amber glowing orbs came heading straight towards me from the south-southwest. As I was watching this object coming towards me, completely naked while washing myself and my work cloths, I realized these three amber, yellowish lights were coming towards me at a rate of speed no greater than about 30 mph and at an altitude of about 100 to 150feet – just barely clearing the tops of pine trees.”

The witness seemed to react to the UFO.

“I could no longer move a muscle in my arms, legs, neck, fingers or shoulders – as if I were completely paralyzed or possessed as the aircraft arrived straight over my head. As the aircraft arrived straight over my body, I was completely paralyzed to any motions whatsoever, but I did feel the water moving. I am blessed that I was standing up in a shallow part of the creek that wasn’t deeper than my waist or else I believed I would have drowned if I were swimming.”

The witness continued to watch the UFO.

“The amber cloudy-like orbs with a trace of something like a reddish-yellow tint swirling inside the amber orbs had all of a sudden turned to a white-colored orb with a baby blue tint swirling inside these ivy white orbs. When the orbs of this UFO were the color of amber, and before it was coming toward me, I was extremely scared out of my wits. All I wanted to do was run away from this UFO as fast as I could.”

But now the witness’s feeling of the event changed.

“However, seconds after the orbs of this UFO turned white and then swirled the baby blue tint inside of its orb, I felt a connection somehow with this craft. I instantly went from being scared and wanting to run in the opposite direction of this UFO, to feeling at peace. I felt that whatever this object was had no intention in harming me. I still have no idea what it could have been if it was not a UFO because it had absolutely no sound while moving or hovering over my head. There was some heat to the light, but it wasn’t hot enough to burn me. It seemed as if it read my mind to determine not to burn me because as the few moments it was scanning me the lights got really hot and I asked it to not burn me in my mind and the lights started to dim to where it wasn’t hot anymore.”

The UFO continued to hover in place.

“This UFO seemed to hover over my head for about 5-10 minutes and then the ivy white, baby blue orb-like lights turned yellowish-amber again and started to fly from the southeast-east going toward Columbia and flying toward Hattiesburg, Mississippi.”

The witness described how the object approached and moved away.

“I saw the amber-colored orbs coming toward me at a distance of about 300 yards as it appeared just over the tree-tops and I lost sight of the amber-colored orb, disk-like object about 50-80 yards as it flew toward Columbia just over the tree-tops. The UFO never seemed to ascend or descend in altitude the entire time it was in my sight.”

The witness has not seen a UFO again since this incident.

“This was the last time I have ever encountered a UFO up-close and personal. I have only encountered lights before this that would shoot across the sky like a shooting star and all of a sudden move in a completely different direction of travel like a V-shape in the sky.”

The witness described the events after the UFO encounter.

“After this encounter I raced back home and my parents asked me where have I been because about five hours had passed by on something that I felt only took a few minutes. I remember leaving right after it turned dark at about 7p.m. and got home just minutes before midnight.”

The missing time was only the first strange piece of the story.

“And a week after this encounter, I started receiving hair loss. My hair fell out and never grew back until this day. In 2004 I had an MRI to determine if I had any back problems for an interview to be a roustabout for Diamond offshore; but my father told me to stay in college and to not take the job. The MRIs taken in 2004 showed absolutely nothing wrong with me. But after this encounter in 2005 I started to get minor back pains.”

The witness moved on with his career.

“In 2007 after getting an associates degree in electronics at PRCC, I took a job with AT&T to work in New Orleans to help rebuild the damage the hurricane caused by flood waters that got so high in some areas that actually got in the cables of the telephone poles and over the peak of house roofs at a height of 25 feet.”

The witness developed a tumor.

“On September 1, 2009, I had to have a tumor removed from inside my spinal cord. The doctor wanted to remove the tumor because it got so large inside my spinal cord that it busted out of my spinal cord and was wrapping around the vertebras outside of my spinal cord. The doctor ranked in the top 10 of all surgeons in this field in the USAand wanted to remove this tumor because he was scared it was going to rupture the main artery that runs down the spinal cord. If this artery got ruptured, I would have bled to death within minutes before I could get any medical attention. And if I did get to the hospital, no doctor would be able to diagnose the problem before I bled to death internally.”

The witness additionally suffers from nightmares.

“In addition, ever since this encounter I have been getting nightmares of being abducted and taken right outside of Earth’s orbit to a bee hive, honey cone-like mothership and not being able to move or wake up until I am returned back to my bedroom. I don’t know if I have ever been abducted or if they caused this tumor or if I have been implanted with something that hasn’t showed up on an MRI other that this tumor that was inside my spinal cord or if these nightmares that seem extremely real are an actual reality and not just dreams. But I do know for a fact I have never had any back problems since this encounter in 2005.”

The witness has been quiet about the encounter.

“I haven’t told many people about what I saw in the summer of 2005 because the people I did mention this to, including family, looked at me as if I am lying; trying to receive attention; or just simply think I am crazy for the dreams I have been receiving or the encounter I witnessed.”

The witness is curious if there may have been other witnesses.

“However, I am extremely curious if anyone in the state of Southern Mississippi saw these lights I witnessed in the summer of 2005; just days after the worst hurricane that hit in the history of United States of America – a hurricane that did the most damage, cost-wise, in United States history. I am not looking for attention. But I am curious if anyone has witnessed anything similar to the most painful and terrifying surgery I was left with after an encounter that will change my life forever.”

Under investigation: Two UFOs videotaped over Seattle

A Washington witness at Seattle reported watching and videotaping two highly reflective, “squared” UFOs, according to testimony in Case 77300 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside during daylight hours and noticed two stationary points of light in the sky on June 21, 2016.

“I told a co-worker to go grab my bag which I keep a camcorder in, while I kept any eye on the two objects,” the witness stated.“I don’t believe they were giving off their own light but rather reflecting the sunlight. I turned on my camcorder and attempted to zoom in on the objects, but it was difficult since they were so small and the camera had a hard time focusing in on them.”

The witness was eventually able to zoom in on one of them and focused long enough, but still could not identify the crafts.

“When I got home and was able to view the footage, the object appeared to be a highly reflective, ‘squared’ (meaning sharp edges, not curved), capital H. It had two long, squared pillars with a short bar in the middle…like a capital H.”

The witness continued to videotape the objects.

“I recorded them for sometime and then they slowly went behind the building. I went to put my camcorder away only to see them again but further to the right. So either they came back almost to the point where I originally saw them or there were two more that I didn’t see when I saw the original two objects. Then those two eventually drifted behind the building as well.”

Security Officer Records UFO Mothership Making Orbs over Fairbanks, Alaska, Video, UFO Sighting News.

Date of sighting: May 13, 2016
Location of sighting: Fairbanks, Alaska, USA

This eyewitness caught a glowing UFO over Fairbanks and it divided into three. This particular UFO looks a lot like a mother orb, which soul purpose it to send out smaller orbs that observe and record. Then later the mother orb will call them all back, entering it. 1965 UFO Encounter: James Flynn in Everglades Florida

On March 12, 1965, in East Fort Myers, Florida, an experienced woodsman James Flynnheaded to the Everglades with his hunting dogs. On the 14th day of March, his hunting dogs run after a deer. Hearing a gunshot sound, Flynn started to swamp buggy and headed off to search for the dogs.

On Monday, March 15th at 1 am, Flynn has spotted a bizarre cone-shaped object hovering in the sky, with an estimated 200 feet above cypress trees. In 2 to 3 minutes, it returned and flew again for another 5 minutes. It then took off again toward the Southwest at a high speed. Soon after, it returned to the same location. At this time, the object comes down the trees on a small knoll when Flynn was about a mile away. Flynn first though it was a helicopter, but as it drew closer, he realized, it wasn’t.

According to him, the object is 25 feet high with four tiers of two-foot-square window-looking that emitted a yellowish color. The body of the object is metallic and is believed to be a product of four-by-four plates which are held with rivets. Around the base was a reddish-orange illumination that appeared to cast a glow of 75 feet around its rim. Later on, he regained consciousness and went back to his home with his dogs. As soon as he went home, he and his wife visit op an ophthalmologist and find that his vision is 20/800 in his right eye, and 20/60 in his left eye. While the left eye appeared normal, the retina is not visible in the right eye. Flynn complained of numbness in his arms and hands and hearing reduction following the encounter. On March 26, he and Dr. Stipe revisited the lace and found a burned circle 72 feet and eight scorched cypress trees.

Flynn believed that it was probably a secret aircraft, and once proven, then somebody should pay for the liability he did.

Is this a crashing UFO captured on camera? Smoking flying saucer 'falls to Earth'

UFO investigators are looking at an image that shows a 'smoking flying saucer' which it is believed could have been falling to Earth.

The snap was caught over a forest surrounding the Yuba River, in Dobbins, California, and has been handed to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), the world's biggest organisation dedicated to investigating such sightings.

In a report to MUFON, the unnamed witness said they did not see any craft in the sky while photographing the area.

He wrote: "I was on a boat fishing trip with my father. We were on the North Fork of the Yuba River. On this day at about 5pm (June 22) I took several pictures of the surrounding canyon and forest.

"While reviewing all the camping photos, I observed an object in the sky above the treeline in one of the pictures. 

"I had taken three pictures within a few seconds of each other. The second picture has the object. The first and third picture of the same location have no object in them. 

"The object looks rectangular, and shiny silver or white on one side. In the location where the photo was taken there were no aircraft in the sky and the only birds we had had seen were hawks or vultures. 

While reviewing all the camping photos, I observed an object in the sky above the treeline in one of the pictures.

"The area we were in is very secluded. There were no other people around, and no noise other than the river going over a rock bed."

Scott C Waring, editor of UFO Sightings Daily, pointed to the smoke and said it could well have landed.

He said: "UFOs often move fast, so fast that the human eye would not be able to notice it. The digital eye is more perfect and can capture most UFOs, but some are just too fast.

Alien Abduction More Like an 'Ambulance Call'

But his perception of the 1975 incident has.

He told more than 300 people at the Alien Cosmic Expo on the weekend at the Best Western Brant Park Inn that, over time, he has developed a better understanding of what happened to him in 1975 while working with a logging crew in Arizona.

"Rather than call it an abduction, you could say it was an ambulance call. I got too close, was injured and they were the only ones in position to reverse the damage."

Walton, who was 21 at the time, was working in Sitgreaves National Forest, near Heber, He said he got too close to a mysterious craft, knocked unconscious and then beamed up into the UFO. He was missing for five days.

His story was the subject of the 1993 movie, Fire in the Sky. Two years later, Walton wrote about his experiences in a book with the same title.

Walton's story, the impact it has had on his life and others involved has been made into a 90-minute documentary by filmmaker Jennifer Stein. Called The True Story of Travis Walton, the documentary was screened at the second annual expo, which began Friday and concluded Sunday.

Walton was part of session at the expo that was billed as the first public examination and investigation in Canada of the truth behind UFOs.

He said that people's reaction has changed to him and his story.

"Initially, reaction was pretty hard to endure," he said. "People were frightened by the very idea and that was the motivation, the basis, for not accepting it.

"They would rather believe that the (logging) crew had murdered me than see what they had seen."

However, over time, the reaction of people has improved because they are better educated.

Other speakers included Nick Pope, Stanton Friedman, Grant Cameron, Stephen Bassett and former federal cabinet minister Paul Hellyer.

Bob Mitchell, a Brantford resident and an organizer of the hearing, called the group of speakers a lineup of rock star researchers, authors and historians. Mitchell is the author of several books on UFOs and extraterrestrials.

One of the panelists, Richard Dolan, a UFO historian and researcher, spoke about some of the government documents he has seen on UFOs.

After the Watergate scandal and the Vietnam War, the U.S. Congress passed a bill that made it easier to get documents through freedom Of information requests and a lot of UFO documents were released, he said.

"A lot of the documents were boring but quite a few were not," Dolan said. "They showed case after case of violations of sensitive air space over U.S. (military) bases."

Descriptions of the UFOs were similar in that they had flat bottoms, dome tops, were silent and had incredibly maneuverability. On top of that there were statements from military personnel about the serious nature of the air space violations, he said.

Dolan also told the audience that it is important to know the history of UFO sightings and reports.

"History is all we have and if we throw away our history we have nothing," he said. "We need to maintain our understanding of the historical record of this phenomena.

"We don't want to just jump into this in 2016 as if it hasn't existed throughout our lifetime."

He said that the historical record appears to show, that after the end of the Second World War and the advent of the nuclear age. that there was a change with respect to the UFO phenomena, which became more visible.

Dolan speculated that the change may be attributed to technological advances and humans becoming better at testing things.

And, while the U.S. government has consistently said there is nothing serious about the phenomena, it is known that at deeply classified levels the problem is being taken seriously, Dolan said.

"I would like to know why there is this discrepancy," Dolan said. "Whatever it might be, we need to know why these lies have been allowed to flourish.

"Whatever the truth is on this subject, whether its extraterrestrial and they are here to enslave us or to help us or if its something else entirely, something is going on and we need to know what it is."

If there is one thing that’s extremely obvious, it’s the fact that the UFO issue is an international matter which concerns each and every one of us. There have been hundreds, if not thousands, of military encounters with UFOs that we know of so far, though this only became known in the ‘mainstream’ world a few short years ago when dozens of governments around the world decided to release thousands of pages of UFO-related documents to the public domain. For example, here is the latest batch, released by the United Kingdom in June of 2013. Prior to this release, the presence UFOs was still thought to belong to the realm of conspiracy theories, but thanks to this release, more and more people are starting to take this issue seriously. According to former White House Chief of StaffJohn Podesta, the existence of UFOs is a “fascinating phenomenon, the nature of which is yet to be determined.”

Again, large portion of these documents detail military encounters with UFOs. For example, a Defense Intelligence Agency document describes a UFO encounter reported by two F-4 interceptor pilots. Keep in mind, these objects are not only seen by pilots, but they are also tracked and confirmed by radar on the planes and on the ground. There is often visual confirmation by the pilots who are sent to check the object out as well. During this encounter, the pilots experienced critical instrumentation and electronics loss as they approached the object, and when they turned away from it all instrumentation and communications came back online.

When the F-4 turned away from the object and apparently was no longer a threat to it, the aircraft regained all instrumentation and communications. This Is What Happens When A “UFO” Is Tracked On Military Radar

This is commonly how these situations play out, and as Richard Dolan, author and one of the world’s leading experts on UFOs, stated at the Citizens Hearing On Disclosure, many pilots have actually lost their lives after being ordered to intercept these objects. Whether this was a result of critical instrumentation failure or something else seems to be unknown at this time. Paul Hellyer said, in the same speech that’s sourced in his quote above, that after pilots were losing their lives (because of critical electronic failure), the UFOs actually started to take corrective measures to avoid our aircraft.

CHENNAI: In the previous eight columns we discussed the validity of the UFO phenomenon and how efforts even at the highest levels of the American government to seek Disclosure has not borne fruit. But one question many readers keep asking me is why are they coming?

UFOs are not crossing oceans of space and time to visit Earth to see the Taj Mahal or the Pyramids at Giza. The reason can be given in one line. E=MC square. In 1945 we turned this equation into a weapon and they responded.

Since the 1940s there have been many, sometimes repeatedly, UFO incursions at American nuclear weapons manufacturing installations, test sites like Nevada, Pacific Islands, and Weapons Storage Areas like Malmstrom, Loring, Wurtsmith, F E Warren, Kirkland and Fairchild Air Force Bases as well as RAF Bases in England and nuclear bases in former Soviet Union.

But it is only in recent times that 100s of U.S military veterans who were in charge of nuclear facilities and missile bases have come forward to openly testify about these extraordinary incidents thanks to the efforts of UFO researcher Robert Hastings who after interviewing more than 150 military veterans regarding their involvement in nuclear weapons related UFO incidents at various bases around the world since the 1940s, published in 2008 the 600 page book UFOs and Nukes: Extraordinary Encounters at Nuclear Weapons Sites which provided a comprehensive summary of their revelations.

This book exposed the American government’s cover up on incidents involving UFOs and its nuclear weapons and installations. Hastings and Robert Salas one of the officers involved in the 1967 Malmstrom missile/UFO incident even appeared in CNN’s Larry King live program and shared their experiences.

But as usual the American mainstream media and the government ignored these events. The American government and media finds a bunch of Jihadis hiding in the mountains of South Waziristan and Yemen plotting to attack America with AK-47 guns and RDX explosives more dangerous and news worthy than the warnings of people like Hastings. If Hastings, Salas and 150 former military officers are lying about UFOs tampering with nuclear missiles, then they must be tried before the law or their warnings must be taken seriously and acted upon. But neither of the two is happening.

American government’s official policy shrouded in secrecy and dictated by a small unelected, unaccountable group is — See no UFO, Hear no UFO, Speak no UFO. Because any acknowledgement of UFOs will inevitably lead to the release of radical energy clean, green energy technologies that will get rid of our addiction to fossil fuels, which in other words means granting Energy-Independence to 1.3 billion Indians who right now only enjoy political independence. As of now 20 American companies control the world oil market and any truth about UFOs can easily destroy that.

From their perspective as Hastings and Friedman point out, UFOs want to make sure that these children (human race) who have found a gun (atomic power) don’t create problems for them. During the Second World War humans managed to murder 60 million of their own kind. In 1945 humans tested the atom bomb. Few weeks later they dropped it on their own kind — twice. Not surprisingly, the same UFOs started showing up all over the world. In 1903 the Wright Brothers made the first manned flight, 66 years later, in 1969 humans walked on the moon. ETs would be wondering what would happen if these warlike, destructive species start colonising space?

Stanton Friedman notes that during his lectures when he asks his audience — If you were an Alien, would you want Earthlings out there? The answer has always been NO.

The sun has gone blank twice this month. This is what it means

According to scientists, this unsettling phenomenon is a sign we are heading for a mini ice age.

Meteorologist and renowned sun-watcher Paul Dorian raised the alarm in his latest report, which has sparked a mild panic about an impending Game of Thrones-style winter not seen since the 17th century.

“For the second time this month, the sun has gone completely blank,” Mr Dorian says.

“The blank sun is a sign that the next solar minimum is approaching and there will be an increasing number of spotless days over the next few years.

“At first, the blankness will stretch for just a few days at a time, then it’ll continue for weeks at a time, and finally it should last for months at a time when the sunspot cycle reaches its nadir. The next solar minimum phase is expected to take place around 2019 or 2020.”

According to NASA, the sun goes through a natural solar cycle approximately every 11 years. The cycle is marked by the increase and decrease of sunspots — visible as dark blemishes on the sun’s surface, or photosphere. The greatest number of sunspots in any given solar cycle is designated as “solar maximum.” The lowest number is “solar minimum”.

“During Solar Max, huge sunspots and intense solar flares are a daily occurrence. Auroras appear in Florida. Radiation storms knock out satellites. Radio blackouts frustrate CB radio as well. The last such episode took place in the years around 2000-2001,” the space agency’s website

Given that the sun is the main driver of all weather and climate, the sinister-sounding “blankness” to which Mr Dorian refers has some experts predicting a “Maunder Minimum” phase similar to one which began in 1645 and which is referred to as the “Little Ice Age”.

The Maunder Minimum, named after solar astronomer Edward Maunder, lasted for a brutal 70 years and was so cold the Thames froze over.

A slightly less intense ice age-like period called the Dalton Minimum — after British Meteorologist John Dalton — arrived decades later and lasted from about 1790 to 1830.

“If history is any guide, it is safe to say that weak solar activity for a prolonged period of time can have a cooling impact on global temperatures in the troposphere which is the bottommost layer of Earth’s atmosphere — and where we all live,” Mr Dorian says.

Mr Dorian’s findings back research by professor Valentina Zharkova of Northumbria University, who warned that a predicted sharp decline in solar activity between 2020 and 2050 was a sign another ice age was coming.

“I am absolutely confident in our research,” Prof Zharkova said.

“It has good mathematical background and reliable data, which has been handled correctly. In fact, our results can be repeated by any researchers with the similar data available in many solar observatories, so they can derive their own evidence of upcoming Maunder Minimum in solar magnetic field and activity.”

And there are other consequences of a sun without spots. Not least for astronauts who face the risk of having their DNA “shattered” by cosmic rays, whose potency surges during periods of solar weakness.

According to Mr Dorian, cosmic rays surge into the inner solar system “with relative ease” during periods of solar minimum.

“Solar wind decreases and sun’s magnetic field weakens during solar minimums making it easier for cosmic rays to reach the Earth,” he explains.

“This is a more dangerous time for astronauts as the increase in potent cosmic rays can easily shatter a strand of human DNA. Also, during years of lower sunspot number, the sun’s extreme ultraviolet radiation (EUV) drops and the Earth’s upper atmosphere cools and contracts.

“With sharply lower aerodynamic drag, satellites have less trouble staying in orbit — a good thing. On the other hand, space junk tends to accumulate, making the space around Earth a more dangerous place for astronauts.”

Ancient passages to stone tombs could have been used by prehistoric humans to boost their view of the night skies as part of an ancient ritual, archaeologists have proposed.

Researchers say that the dark entrances to 6,000 year-old tombs in Portugal could have been an early form of astronomical tool that enhanced the visibility of the stars. In particular, they say, the orientation of the entrances to the passage graves suggests that they are aligned to offer a view of Aldebaran, the red star that is the brightest body in the constellation of Taurus.

The star might have been important to ancient communities who moved their herds and flocks to summer grazing grounds in the mountains each year. The annual event, the researchers argue, could have coincided with the star’s first appearance in the morning twilight each year. “This first rising of Aldebaran occurred at the end of April or beginning of May 6,000 years ago, so it would be a very good, very precise calendrical marker for them to know when it was time to move into the higher grounds,” said Dr Fabio Silva of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

The team, including researchers from Nottingham Trent University, believe the conditions within the tunnels could have provided viewers with a chance to spot Aldebaran’s first appearance before those outside.

That, they say, could have been linked to ancient rituals in which individuals were left on their own in the tomb with the remains of their ancestors. “There is a wealth of evidence now that these passage graves were not only used as tombs for burials, but they could also be used for rites of passage,” said Silva. Such rituals, he adds, often involved the revelation of an astronomical secret to the initiate. “Could the secret be that he could see the star rising days, if not a full week, before everybody else that was outside the passage grave could see it?” said Silva.

Presenting their work at the Royal Astronomical Society’s National AstronomyMeeting at the University of Nottingham, the team propose that the corridors boast a number of features that would have allowed someone within them to glimpse an early view of Aldebaran’s so-called heliacal rising through the small window provided by the tunnel’s opening.

“The key thing is that a passage grave with its long corridor acts like a telescope that does not have a lens - it is a long tube from which you are looking at the sky,” said Silva. “Its characteristics are going to impact how you are looking at the sky in three or four ways.”

Among these, says Silva, the corridors point towards the horizon, focusing the viewer’s attention on one area of the sky, while the walls would block out the pre-dawn rays from the sun, making it easier to spot other celestial objects and increasing the contrast with the sky. The viewer’s eyes, he adds, would be adapted to the dark of the passage, potentially making them better adjusted to spotting faint stars.

“All you are doing is making sure everything is dark apart from that small area in the sky,” said Dr Daniel Brown from Nottingham Trent University, who is also involved in the research.

Silva and the team are currently testing these ideas by simulating the conditions of the passages in the laboratory.

“We are going to simulate this star rising at twilight conditions and allow people to tell us when they can see it,” said Silva. “Then [we will] compare that with a control group of people that are in a room which would replicate the conditions of being outside the passage grave.”

The link between ancient sites and astronomy is far from new -Stonehenge being perhaps the most famous example. But the purpose of such sites is notoriously difficult to unpick.

“As any archaeologist will tell you, trying to understand what was going through the minds of the people who built these prehistoric monuments is a difficult task,” said Dr Marek Kukula, public astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. “But this team is carrying out a fascinating study into how the human visual perception of a small patch of sky can be affected by the narrow views along the passages of the Portuguese structures.”

While the team propose that such properties could have had calendrical and spiritual purposes, Kukula believes the work highlights the central role of stargazing in societies throughout time.

“Whether these really were were the reasons why the passage tombs were originally built is hard to say for sure,” he said. “But this kind of ‘archaeoastronomy’ highlights the fact that human beings have always been fascinated by the stars and that sky-watching has had an important role in human society for millennia.”

Astronomers are baffled by a recent finding wherein a magnetar, an immensely magnetic neutron star, is enveloped by a wind nebula. It was previously believed that only young pulsars spin fast enough to harbor a wind nebula and a magnetar definitely does not move fast enough to maintain one. An investigation is underway.

FIRST MAGNETAR WITH A WIND NEBULA EVER FOUND

Using NASA’s Swift satellite, astronomers found a wind nebula surrounding a magnetar for the first time. Why is this remarkable?

First of all, a magnetar alone is a very rare thing…and quite a scary one too. Magnetars, as their name suggests, are highly magnetic neutron stars. How magnetic? They are 1,000 trillion times more magnetic than our common environment–meaning to 1 quadrillion gauss.

And what does that mean for a human being? According to an article by astrophysicist Paul Sutter: “Get too close to one (say, within 1,000 kilometers, or about 600 miles), and the magnetic fields are strong enough to upset not just your bioelectricity — rendering your nerve impulses hilariously useless — but your very molecular structure. In a magnetar’s field, you just kind of … dissolve.”

Up to now, only 29 of the 2,600 neutron stars ever found have been classified as magnetars. And this is the first time a magnetar has ever been found enveloped in a wind nebula, a massive cloud of high-energy particles.

The magnetar involved was one discovered in 2011 and named Swift J1834.9-0846, J1834.9 for short. Astronomers are now trying to understand how the magnetar managed to sustain a windnebula.

THE MYSTERY

It was previously believed that only young pulsars are capable of harboring wind nebulae due to the fact that they spin fast enough, keeping the wind nebula from escaping out into space. And even these pulsars can lose the wind nebulae as they grow old and spin slower.

Magnetars are known to spin slower than regular pulsars, making it baffling how J1834.9 manages to keep its wind nebula.

“Right now, we don’t know how J1834.9 developed and continues to maintain a wind nebula, which until now was a structure only seen around young pulsars,” said lead researcher George Younes from George Washington University.

While a magnetar’s behavior is very chaotic and is not very well understood as of now, researchers plan to investigate this occurrence further.

“It represents a unique opportunity to study the magnetar’s historical activity, opening a whole new playground for theorists like me,” says Jonathan Granot from Israel’s Open University.

“If the process here is similar, then about 10 percent of the magnetar’s rotational energy loss is powering the nebula’s glow, which would be the highest efficiency ever measured in such a system,” Younes adds.

6. They Control the Earth’s Environment

You have probably heard about the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP). It is a project funded by The US Navy and The US Air Force and its cover is technology that can allow US military to communicate with its fleet of submarines through very long distances.

How this works? There is an instrument in HAARP called “Ionospheric Research Instrument” which is a facility that transmits high-power radio frequency directly into a limited area of the Ionosphere.

This instrument manipulates the Ionosphere, the place where free electrons exist, and has a potential to create radio waves that will manipulate the earth’s magnetic field. You get yourself a control of the earth’s magnetic field and you control the earth.

Even more frightening is the fact that HAARP has a potential to control emotions through wave frequencies and manipulate human minds. Who knows, maybe they are responsible for our sudden mood swings. Project HAARP was shut down in May 2013 — or was it?

There is absolutely no need for fluoride in tap water, well for us, but for the ones who want to control the world and make sure no one rises above them, fluoride in tap water is essential element. Why? Let me explain a little bit.

Fluoridation was recommended by Edward Bernays, nephew of Sigmund Freud. Mind manipulation is written all over their foreheads.

Fluoride is a chemical that has an effect on the Pineal Gland of our brain, some call it “The Third Eye”. This gland is responsible for majority of our emotions, as well as our serotonin and melatonin level.

Fluoride damages this gland and promotes apathy, depression, and low vibrations. This results in lack of motivation, bad health and boredom. To survive in the world today we must earn money to buy the necessary things like food, water, shelter, medicine.

Instead of following our dream and escaping the system, we are depressed and unmotivated which forces us to work for someone just so we can survive. These 2 forces, the survival instinct and apathy, limit us to follow the system and never rise above it.

We are scared for our survival but unmotivated to go our own way, so we let others lead our whiny ass to safety. Their safety. Just like sheep in the herd.

Fluoride is now also being added to almost every food product made with water. Fluoride is also in insecticides and other poison products, toothpaste, mouthwash, and many psychotropic medicines, and if we are good we may even get houses made of fluoride, yay!

Genetically Modified Organisms or GMOs are plants or animals created through the gene splicing techniques of biotechnology. This experimental technology merges DNA from different species, creating unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding.

In other words GMO is taking God’s dice in our own hands. It is the greatest disbalance nature has ever seen.

The Universe has one divine rule and that is that whatever happens it must always keep balance, every action has its own opposite reaction. We make disbalance to nature, but as we know The Universe will always find balance, so our action will result in conflict between us and nature.

The dumbest man knows that we come from Nature and the conflict will be between ourselves resulting in us becoming something else that is not Nature or our extinction, because let’s face it, we cannot go on the opposite side of the scale with such force and expect balance.

What is Beauty? Victoria’s Secret Angels, I know, but what is the definition of beauty? The combination of elements like shape, color, size that pleases the sense of sight. But, we know that music has a beauty too, smell also, so if you ask me I would say that beauty is a harmony between elements and forces.

Sacred geometry is found where elements meet The Golden Ratio (1.618033989...) and it exists through all The Universe between gravity of planets, Nature, design of flowers, shape of animals, proportions of land, crop circles, it also exists in many manmade objects or famous arts like the works of Leonardo DaVinci, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Greek and Roman architecture...

Almost everything we find harmonious, beautiful, and with that x-factor we cannot explain has The Golden Ratio shinning through it.

Why is this kept a secret? Well, it’s like a magic show. We find magic in things with The Golden Ratio but we don’t know why or how. The magician knows the trick and in order to manipulate the audience nobody else is allowed to know how it’s done.

Do you know that in 1955 the International Standardization Organization made 440 Hz a general tuning standard for musical pitch? Before that was 432 Hz.

As you may know sounds have the biggest impact in our thinking. 432 Hz makes the sound of music more harmonious, calm, promotes happiness and deep understanding, passion. 440 Hz is more energetic, faster, it is almost like racing.

It is more competitive and focusing on the details, the understanding of the things we can see. So why would someone and most importantly how, decides that 440 Hz is better than 432 Hz?

Because music touches us where nothing else can, where the essence of our Emotional Being is, and if you control what emotions/thoughts the music promotes, than your work of controlling the world is 99% done.

“They” don’t want people to understand Our True Nature and Our Higher Self. They want us to be in a hurry, to believe only what we see and be competitive about material things.

This way the 99% will live in the reality the 1% will create for them. This whole article is about that, the purpose of the 1% is to shape the reality of the 99% and through various of things “They” have accomplished that, and “They” are damn good in keeping the control.

Although not an 'official' Vile Vortex, the inland Bridgewater Triangle is likely one of the world's most concentrated areas of diverse paranormal reports.

Located just 30 miles south of Boston, this 200-mile square area has the Massachusetts towns of Abington, Freetown and Rehoboth at its angles. The town of Bridgewater is located nearly dead center within the triangle and the area also encompasses six other Massachusetts towns: Raynham, Taunton, Brockton, Mansfield, Norton and Easton1.

Mysterious Landmarks

The Hockomock Swamp

The Hockomock Swamp, a 5000+ acre area lies within the western section of Bridgewater Triangle and is the hub of many paranormal reports. Also the site of an 8,000-year-old Native American burial ground, when archaeologists opened the graves of Grassy Island, the red ochre within the tombs bubbled and then mysteriously disappeared. Photographs taken of the excavation would not develop1.

The swamp remains shrouded in superstition. Called, "the place where spirits dwell" by the Wampanoag Tribe of the Native American Algonquian nation, the Wampanoag avoided the Hockomock Swamp and the area remains a place filled with foreboding2.

Dighton Rock

On the banks of the Tauntaon River, Dighton Rock lies across from the Grassy Island Burial Grounds of Hockomock Swamp. Numerous inscriptions of unknown origins are carved into the face of the rock. Although various speculations attribute them to Native Americans, Vikings, and even Phoenicians, their identity has never been specifically determined 3.

Profile Rock

Profile Rock is another Bridgewater Triangle landmark that has gained a paranormal reputation. Located in Freetown, from a nearby hill, the rock shows a clear portrait of a Native American face looking out from the stone. Long before Massachusetts colonists arrived, the Wampanoag people considered Profile Rock sacred. Local legends claim that Native American ghost dancers in warrior dress dance around Profile Rock3, 4.

Anawan Rock

Located in Hockomock Swamp along Route 44 in Rehoboth, Anawan Rock is named for Chief Anawan and is the site where Chief Anawan surrendered to the colonists, ending "King Phillip's War". Legend says that the angry spirits of Chief Anawan's warriors continue to haunt the area, starting spectral fires and "ghost dancing".

Bridgewater Triangle Phenomena

Paranormal researcher, Loren Coleman, who named the Bridgewater Triangle in the 1970, revived public attention to the many paranormal reports emanating from the area.

Aside from the number and diversity of paranormal reports, what is phenomenal about the Bridgewater Triangle is that the first report of paranormal activity was made over three centuries ago, in 1760.

At 10 am on May 10, 1760, a "sphere of fire" was reported to hover over New England and emit a light so bright that is cast shadows in the morning sun. Reportedly, the light was seen from both Bridgewater and Roxbury3. Since then, the area has spawned a diversity of reports that include paranormal events that range from ghost dancers to UFOs to Cryptozoological sightings.

Bridgewater Triangle UFOs

The 1760 report is likely the first documented UFO report on the planet. However, it certainly wasn't the last UFO report to come out of the Bridgewater Triangle.

• Halloween 1908 marked another UFO sighting, documented in local newspapers.
• In 1968, five people claimed that they saw a strange ball of light floating among the trees in a wooded part of Rehoboth3.
• In the 1970's, UFO sightings were frequently reported to occur in different areas of the Bridgewater Triangle1. In one 1976 report, two UFOs were seen landing along Route 44 near Taunton.
• In 1994, a Bridgewater Law Enforcement Officer reported seeing a triangular shaped craft with red and white lights.
• The town of Raynham frequently receives reports of glowing balls of light, floating over the ground at the local dog track3.

Mysterious Creatures

Cryptozoological sightings are numerous and varied in the Bridgewater Triangle. In 1970, reports of a big-foot like, 7-foot tall hairy monster and its footprints instigated both the Bridgewater and Massachusetts State Police canine unit to conduct a search for a bear. However, neither man nor bear was ever found.

In 1978, paranormal researcher Joseph M. DeAndrade claims to have observed another such creature as it slowly walked into the brush of the Hockomock Swamp, about 200 yards from his location. He chronicled his sighting in his 1997 book,Passing Strange: True Tales of New England Hauntings and Horrors8.

Not all of the creatures that allegedly inhabit the Bridgewater Triangle are land-bound. Since 1971, several sightings of phenomenally large, black birds, with wingspans that stretched from eight to twelve feet, have been reported as well. Coincidentally, the first of these reports originated from Bird Hill in Hockomock Swamp. In 1984, two of these avian creatures were allegedly seen fighting in mid-air.

Bridgewater Triangle Ghostly Specters

Besides the legends that tell of Native American ghost dancers, reports of several contemporary ghostly specters come from the Bridgewater Triangle.

• A mysterious redheaded hitchhiker haunts a stretch of Route 44 in Rehoboth.
• A ghostly phantom appears in Hockomock Swamp near Route 138.
• From Freetown, a ghostly trucker is rumored to speed along the winding Copicut Road, blaring his horn and threatening passing motorists.

NASA finds Mars had a ‘ human ’ breathable atmosphere

It seems that Mars is turning out to have been a nearly identical planet to Earth in its distant history. There is liquid water on Mars; the planet had vas oceans in the past, and now we knwo the red planet had abundant oxygen in the distant past.

A new finding by NASA’s Curiosity has provided evidence of significant amounts of oxygen that once permeated the Martian atmosphere. Apparently, the Red Planet was more Earth-like than many scientists thought until now. In fact, it is highly possible that organisms that thrive on Earth could have thrived on Mars in the distant past. This second one is still debatable.

 

Using the ChemCam instrument aboard Curiosity, scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratory have discovered high levels of manganese oxides in cracks filled with minerals present in some Martian rocks of the Kimberley region in the Gale crater.

 

The presence of this chemical suggests that in the past there were sufficient levels of oxygen in the atmosphere of Mars, which would have made the planet “breathable” for humans.

 

This finding is yet another important discovery which suggests that the red planet was once very Earth-like.

• “The only ways on Earth that we know how to make these manganese materials involve atmospheric oxygen or microbes,” said Nina Lanza, a planetary scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. “Now we’re seeing manganese oxides on Mars, and we’re wondering how the heck these could have formed?”

While researchers are still not sure about microbes, finding traces of oxygen in Mars’ atmosphere is a very important discovery that will help us understand our neighbouring planet which in addition will help plan future trips to the red planet.

• “These high manganese materials can’t form without lots of liquid water and strongly oxidizing conditions. Here on Earth, we had lots of water but no widespread deposits of manganese oxides until after the oxygen levels in our atmosphere rose,” said Lanza.

 

This scene shows NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover at a location called “Windjana,” where the rover found rocks containing manganese-oxide minerals, which require abundant water and strongly oxidizing conditions to form. In front of the rover are two holes from the rover’s sample-collection drill and several dark-toned features that have been cleared of dust (see inset images). These flat features are erosion-resistant fracture fills containing manganese oxides. The discovery of these materials suggests the Martian atmosphere might once have contained higher abundances of free oxygen than it does now.

According to experts, in Earths geological history, the appearance of high amounts of manganese oxide minerals is in important clue which indicates a major change in our atmosphere composition: from low oxygen abundances to the oxygen-rich atmosphere we have today. The discovery of the same materials on the red planet indicates that oxygen levels rose there too, before falling to the present values the Curiosity rover has seen.

• “One potential way that oxygen could have gotten into the Martian atmosphere is from the breakdown of water when Mars was losing its magnetic field,” said Lanza. “It’s thought that at this time in Mars’ history, water was much more abundant.”

Experts indicate that without a protective magnetic field shielding the surface of the red planet, ionizing radiation began splitting water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. Mars as we know is a planet with a relatively low gravity which means that the planet was not able to hold onto light hydrogen atoms. However, the heavier oxygen atoms remained on the planet. Researchers speculate that much of the oxygen ended up in Mars geological formations which eventually lead to the rusty red dust that covers the surface of Mars today.

 

According to scientists, the red iron oxides on Mars need only a mildly oxidizing environment to form, while manganese oxides require a strongly oxidizing environment, which is more than previously known on Mars 

• Lanza added, “It’s hard to confirm whether this scenario for Martian atmospheric oxygen actually occurred. But it’s important to note that this idea represents a departure in our understanding for how planetary atmospheres might become oxygenated.”

Abundant atmospheric oxygen has been treated as a so-called biosignature or a sign of extant life but this process does not require life.
